The Development Of Self Regulation Amongst Children
The development of self regulation amongst children is complex and influenced by a large number
of factors such as attunement, family routine, language development, and social interaction, to
name just a few (Kopp, 1982). Given these factors are likely influenced by early parent child
interactions, and since it s widely known that cultureinfluences parental values and beliefs, one can
expect to notice a large difference when comparing parental styles between two contrasting cultures,
such as Japan and the United States. Furthermore, it would be expected to find a difference in the
development of self regulation between Japanese and American children.
Why is Amae important? Amae is a Japanese word lacking an English equivalent, however, in
short, is defined as passive love and is often used when describing the most important
relationship in Japanese culture: the parent child relationship (Doi, 1973, p. 18). The concept is
very much hierarchical and the verb form, amaeru means to seek to fill the desire to be taken
care of by someone of authority (Doi, 1973, p. 29). Though the concept of amae is not exclusive
to Japanese culture, Japanese is the only language to have a word for it (Doi, 1973, p. 18). Amae
is important to understand because it s at the core of Japanese culture, and is an essential part to
the Japanese definition of love, extending beyond the mother child relationship and being valued
and accepted in any type of adult relationships (Doi, 1973, p. 21).

Dartmouth College Vs. Woodward
Dartmouth College v. Woodward (1819) Living in the 1800 s was not an easy task. This was the
time of child labor and little to no education for kids. The time of having to walk 2 3 miles
anywhere and making sure the crops were well enough to sell in the markets. The time of Westward
Expansion and the genocide of Native Americans. Eleazar Wheelock, a Puritan minister from
Columbia, CT was the one who founded Dartmouth. He initially established the school to train
Native Americans as Christian missionaries. His inspiration for the school first came about due to
his relationship with a Mohegan Indian Samson Occom. The name of the school was to be Moor s
Indian Charity School and was officially established in 1755. It was somewhat successful, but they
still needed more funding in order to maintain the schools operations. Wheelock and Occom
decided to go to England in 1766 to raise money for the school. Once they raised enough, they
made a trust to help the school. The Charity School finally had enough financial support to keep
going. But Wheelock had trouble recruiting Native Americans to attend the institution due to the
location being far away from the tribal territories. He decided to relocate the school to Hanover, in
the Province of New Hampshire. Following the relocation, it was difficult to find resources and
secure a charter. Luckily, the Royal Governor of New Hampshire, John Wentworth, provided the
land that Dartmouth would be built on and issued a charter in the name

Justice In The Green Mile
Green mile is a movie about how justice is served and whom deserves justice, Green Mile is a
movie about racial stereotypes. It has a big influence on how certain people of different race
view African Americans and minorities in general. The black man is the most categorized races
in history, always been presented as negligent people, unintelligent and unable to make certain
decisions. Instead, the black man is portrayed as a savage and barbaric man who is a savage,
less than human. In the early days and still now it is not unusual for a black man to be killed for
raping and killing a white woman with little to no trial with a chance to have his day in a real
courtroom with a jury of his peers. This type of standard was more popular during... Show more

He was accused and sentenced to death for the rape and killing of two white girls. The type of

However, Was the execution of John moral right action? Based on the definition of
utilitarianism as that an act is right if it produces the greatest sum of satisfactions to a great
number of people. Then, most people will agree since they were outraged by the crimes two
innocent whites girls raped and killed by a black man. That is the perfect scenario for a death
sentence. The question would be, was he guilty of the crimes he is accused of? There was no
time to find out since there should be a perpetrator brought to justice to decrease the anger of the
white population outrage by these acts. Paul, the senior and commanding officer, had to take into
consideration the whole situation. knowing the fact that he is not well liked by everyone,

Mark Twain s Writing
Mark Twain would write facing a wall so he would not get distracted by the stuff around him.
Mark Twain was a very social person who loved to be around people, and he used his personal
experiences when writing his books. Twain also allows his emotions at the time dictate his writing,
for example when his daughter died his writings became very negative and dark.
First and foremost Mark Twainwas a very emotional writer. Twain arguably wrote his best pieces
during the earlier part of his career, because he enjoyed writing and he was in a good place. After
sometime he started to write for profit because most of his investments were failing during this time
he was losing a substantial amount of money. Things got worse when his wife and daughter

Gun Assault Shootings
More and more often, we are saddened by the news of mass shootings. Whether it takes place in a
school or public area, these shootings are both disastrous and mortifying. Families begin to feel
anger and sadness and demand immediate justice. Although these terrible events continue to
happen, there have been no significant steps taken towards the decrease in the number of
weapons; specifically, assault rifles. This leads one to question do we need to ban the right to own
such weapons? If the possession of these weapons is not made illegal, we run the risk of another
attack. A ban on assault rifles is not the answer because they are not the cause of such events, and it
is a constitutional right to own them.
In 1994, Congress passed the Federal Assault Weapons Banwhich eliminated the manufacturing of
certain assault rifles for private use (Plumer). This bill expired in 2004 and was never redrafted.
Many mass shootings in the last few years, especially ones at Virginia Tech, a movie theater in
Colorado, and Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut, Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Harvest
Music Festival in Las Vegas, First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs have stirred up the
pressure to pass a new bill.
Following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, California Senator, Dianne
Feinstein, drafted a bill to potentially ban the sale, transfer, manufacturing, and importation of
assault rifles. This bill includes a ban on semiautomatic rifles, pistols, shotguns,

Given this information, explain how a female could have a consistent hematocrit of 48, large, well
defined skeletal muscles, and an abnormally deep voice.
The female that is being described could live in a high altitude location and engage in a lot of
strenuous athletic training.
В·List the hematocrits for the healthy male (sample 1) and female (sample 2) living in Boston (at
sea level) and indicate whether they are normal or whether they indicate anemia or polycythemia.
Healthy male living in Boston 48
Healthy female living in Boston 44
Both of these indicate that they are normal hematocrit values.
В·Describe the difference between the hematocrits for the male and female living in Boston. Why
does this difference between the sexes exist?
Males have higher hematocrit levels than females because males have more testosterone.
Testosterone levels stimulate the kidneys to release erythropoietin. Erythropoietin then stimulates
the synthesis of red blood cells.
В·List the hematocrits for the healthy male and female living in Denver (approximately one mile
above sea level) and indicate whether they are normal or whether they indicate anemia or
polycythemia.
Healthy male living in Denver 55
Healthy female living in Denver 53
Both of these levels indicate polycythemia.
В·How did the hematocrit levels of the Denver residents differ from those of the Boston residents?
Why? How well did the results compare with your prediction?

I Found Myself at Wrestling Camp Essay
Most girls don t pay money to roll around on the ground with sweaty guys. Yet that is exactly
what I did this last July. No, it s not what you re thinking; I went to wrestling camp. Wrestling is
a sport that I ve always wanted to try, but my shyness and insecurity held me back. This year I
decided that I will no longer allow other people s opinions affect my own decisions. Joining
wrestlingis the first major step I m taking to change my life. You want to do...wrestling? As

After the conditioning drills, we learned a few moves, then paired up and practiced them. You ll
be fine, coach said you just have to be aggressive. I nodded, but inside I secretly prayed that I
wouldn t get stuck with a rabid beast of a wrestler. Apparently the wrestling gods weren t
listening. The first girl I was paired with wasn t foaming at the mouth, but her intimidation factor
was still quite high. She had the quads of an Olympian, and her biceps were so thick I m pretty
sure she could bench press me. To top it all off, she was sporting a facemask reminiscent of
Hannibal Lecter (apparently she had broken her nose in a match last season). Her arms of steel
wrapped around me, and when she took me down I felt like I d been clotheslined by The Rock.
The guys on the team were watching, and I saw them all collectively cringe as my face got
slammed into the mat. Fun stuff. After this short but painful crash course in wrestling basics, it
was time for some live matches. I had one clear cut objective: Don t get pinned! Two seconds into
my first match and my face got to know the mat quite intimately. My philosophy quickly changed
to: Don t get pinned in thirty seconds...don t get pinned in ten seconds...don t get neck snapped in
three different places. Let s just say I didn t exactly fulfill my goals. I did have one moment of
glory however. Enter Eric: Cocky, annoying freshman, who is unable to shut up for more than thirty

Cabbage Root Fly
Biological Control of Cabbage Root Fly
Introduction
Biological control involves the use of living natural enemies to lower the population of a particular
pest species (Eilenberg et al. 2001). These natural enemies are called biological control agents and
can include viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasitoids, predators or competitors. Biological control is an
application of density dependence and population regulation and is one aspect of integrated pest
management. After the discovery of synthetic chemicals as controls, research into biological
controls received little attention; however it is currently gaining popularity. This is due to its many
advantages over other control methods, such as synthetic pesticides, and its few disadvantages. ...

Once implemented, the long term economic costs of biological control will often be lower than
alternative synthetic chemical controls because pesticides require repeated application for ongoing
efficacy. Biological control agents often exhibit high target specificity, unlike pesticides which often
result in non target organisms being affected. Pesticides can bioaccumulate and biomagnify in the
food chain and the chemicals can leach through the soil negatively affecting other organisms.
Biological controls will continually target the pest while not affecting other potentially beneficial
coexisting organisms. Unlike chemical controls, biological controls are self perpetuating, and the
pests upon which they are acting usually do not develop a resistance, or are slow to develop a
resistance. With proper research and understanding, the natural occurrence of biological controls
can make their use safer to humans and other organisms than that of synthetic

Characters In Disgrace Sparknotes
In 1997, South Africa entered the post Apartheid, a system which not only the colored but other
nationalities were severely restricted under the power of the white minority. Blacks were not
permitted to pay taxes so they couldn t benefit from them, they were not even considered citizens
and were not allowed to register in the white schools. Segregation took place by having people
attend their own hospitals and restaurants. The post apartheid South Africais described as a
depressing period that rulings was based on nationality, race, and gender (Gradin).
Disgrace opens up with the life of David Lurie, a 52 year old white professor of Romantic Poetry,
twice divorced, and basically, lives for his financial and emotional means. His life filled with
desire, but lacking in passion (Coetzee). This novel tells the Story of David and his daughter Lucy
Lurie, who are living in post apartheid South Africa. Every week he meets his sexual needs by
visiting a prostitute. But still feels empty and seduces one of his students that makes him feel
young again, Melanie. Although Melanie Issacs was a minor character in the novel, her role or
what she made of it, is what gave this story s interesting plot.
Everything falls apart and David Lurie s life falls into disgrace after being charged with sexual
harassment. He is then prompted to leave his position at the university so he moves to his daughter
s farm with the hopes the incident will stay behind him. Their relationship is not the

The Somalian Refugee Crisis Essay
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced, Somalia s drought and refugee
crisis is the most severe humanitarian emergency in the world, (UNHCR, 2011). Although
estimates vary, about 800,000 people have left Somalia seeking asylum. Most now reside in
refugee camps in bordering Kenya and Ethiopia. Many trek for days with little or food to seek
safety and assistance in refugeecamps only to find conditions that are no better. Host nations and
humanitarian organizations cannot support the vast number of refugees that have already crossed
the border and thousands more arrive every day. Maintenance of the current course of action is not

By early summer (1992), at least 300,000 civilians had already died and in July (2009) the
International Committee of the Red Cross re iterated its six month old estimates that 95 percent of
the population of Somalia was malnourished and 70 percent in imminent danger of death by
starvation, (Jon Western, 1999). Between 1992 and 1995 a UN Peacekeeping force and a small
American lead coalition attempted to stabilize the country. After limited success, both eventually
pulled out. In the decade that followed fighting between warlords, political groups, and neighboring
countries have contributed to numerous failed attempts to establish a functioning government. The
country is considered a failed state.
To compound the issues, in the last two years limited rain fall has caused the worst drought in
over 60 years. The already overwrought food situation exponentially worsted as crops and
livestock die due to water shortages. As a result the numbers of refugees have recently increased
dramatically, with over 330,000 Somalis seeking refuge since January of 2011, (UNHCR, 2011).
For the Somali people, options are very limited. Warlords have actually banned humanitarian efforts
in some areas. When left with little choice they abandon their homes and make for the shelter of a
neighboring country. Tens of thousands of families travel by foot carrying their children sometimes
for more than a week. Most times with

Life of a Teenager
The Effects of Teenage Relationships Different relationships affect teenagers in various ways.
Friends impact teenagers almost the same amount as their parents. Teenagers go to their friends
for help or to ask questions that they could not ask their parents about. Most of the time their
friends give them good advice but then there is the down side when they put pressure on their
friends to do something like to smoke, drink, and do drugs. In most cases they tell their friends
how to dress and act when around certain people. Love relationships just make it even harder for a
teenager to get a good education. Some start to fail in school because they are hanging out with
their boyfriend or girlfriend instead of doing their work. Throughout... Show more content on

Close family ties are an important bond for each member of the family. A guy who wants to date
a girl must ask for her parents permission. In case no permission is granted, it is highly unlikely
for the date to actually happen, unless in some cases that the girl and guy sneak out and date out
secretly. However, this is morally unacceptable in Philippine culture. Filipino parents are very
strict with their children having romantic relationships. Brothers are generally protective of their
sisters. Even cousins and other relatives are protective of their young female cousins and
relatives. They become more lenient when their daughters, sisters and relatives reach the legal
age of 18. When picking up the girl at her home for a date, it is common to provide gifts to the
family members (parents, grandparents and siblings) as well. Parents usually want to have
some conversation with the guy and ask about his family and educational background before
they can go out for a date. First Date The first date is officially a time to get to know each other.
The couple ask about each other s backgrounds and it is highly unlikely to have a passionate kiss
after the date. Some girls allow a kiss on the cheek after the first date, but this varies per person
and per couple. Some guys don t even get the chance to hold the hand of their conservative dates.
However, the more liberal females are more open to

The Importance Of The Carnival Of Venice
The Carnival of Venice (Carnevale di Venezia) is a huge celebration taken place in Venice, Italy.
This extraordinary event takes place in the streets of the city with the center of attention at the St.
Mark s Square, in Venice. At times, there are events such as masquerade balls that take place in
ancient Venetian buildings (Bonadonna, 2017). Socially, this event contains individuals of all
ages. Children gather together with their family members, friends and neighbors to celebrate the
final days of eating meat, fats, and sugars, before the holiday Lent has arrived (Walks of Italy,
2016). Recently tourists from all over the world traveled to Venice during this time to experience
this unique event. This celebration is known for having each participant wear a unique and unusual
mask. With these masks, individuals cannot be judged on their roles such as their race, gender, or
age (SlowItaly, 2013).
Culturally, Roman Catholics believe that during the Fridays of the 40 days of Lent, individuals
should not eat meat to honor Jesus Christ, who suffered for his followers and died on the cross on
a Friday. The activity pattern of giving up meat was chosen due to the fact that it is known to be a
worthy sacrifice within this religion and is associated with many feasts (Kosloski, 2017). The

A New Vision Of Masculinity
Showing your humanity through raw emotions used to be seen as proof of a person s sincerity,
honesty, and integrity. Something happened in the 20th century, women became the picture of
teary eyed fragility and the tearless, aggressive male became the ideal of masculinity. Media
messages, commercials, and television shows stopped portraying men as responsible, competent,
and compassionate husbands, sons, and fathers, instead they consist of idiotic or misogynistic
archetypes. When men are portrayed as sensitive humans, it is largely under the caveat of being
gay. As stated in A New Vision of Masculinity

Flexible
The Imagination Playscape features different shaped parts which can be used as a variety of things,
allowing children to creatively design and build structures. One child may use a particular part for
one purpose, while another may imagine it as something different. Furthermore, the holes in
some of the parts can be used for different purposes. They may be used as a way to join pieces
together, as a window or even as a way for young children to easily move them around. All the
furniture except for the large tiered seating is easy to move, though some children may need
assistance from an adult, allowing the space to be flexible.
Sense of Community
The seating located around the room allow a place for adults to sit. Some of the seating is low
enough that adults can engage with the children without having to sit on the floor. The large area
ensures that there is enough space for both adults and children to create together. Though the
limited number of loose parts can be seen as a disadvantage, it can also foster a sense of
community when two groups of children must share or trade to get the piece they want.
Constructiveness
The space allows for children to work collaboratively with both other children and adults.
Imagination Playscape is a place where children s knowledge and ideas can be built upon by
interacting with others. One child may have an idea and other child helps them execute it
effectively, or an adult may provide assistance.

Mary Jane And The Wilks Girls
For every single smile of a child and my little brothers.
Once upon a time in a small town, three sad sisters, who had lost their father. Their names were
Joanna, Susan and Mary Jane, the Wilks girls. Joanna was known by her harelips, Susan was pretty,
but not prettier than the oldest sister Mary Jane with all that red hair.
They were waiting for their two uncles from England, William and Harvey. Uncle William was
deaf and dumb, while Uncle Harvey was a minister.
The sisters had not seen their uncles before, all they knew about them were what was written on
letters. Peter Wilks, the girls dad, wrote good things about his brothers.
Someday a crowd gathered before the Wilks home to watch Wilks s three nieces tearfully greet
Peter s brothers. Everybody was excited about something new in the small town.
With the arrival, Mary Jane and Susan ran to their uncles arms. With them, there was a young boy
called Adolphus, who was their servant. However, Joanna realized something strange when she
talked with Adolphus. She was the youngest, but none of the others sisters could beat her smartness.
Mary Jane took care of everything to make sure that her uncles would feel comfortable and at
home. She treated them with care and zeal, cooking delicious meals.
During a dinner, Uncle Harvey read the letter his brother had left. There, was written that six
thousand dollars were in the basement and many properties were given to Peter s brothers

Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Asd )
What Is Autism? Autism Spectrum Disorder, (ASD) is a development disorder and affects the
brains normal development in social and communication skills. ASD is now defined as a single
disorder and includes disorders that were previously considered separate such as Childhood
Disintegrative Disorder, Asperger s Syndrome, and Persuasive Developmental Disorder not
otherwise specified. There is no exact cause of ASD, but scientists believe that a variety of factors
both genetic and environmental may play a role. Scientists believe that several genes are involved
in the development of ASD. There is a genetic susceptibility to ASD. This was initially determined
by twin and other family studies. Although many chromosomal and gene abnormalities have been
associated with symptoms of ASD, none of these are present in all affected children (Errol, 2014).
Scientists believe that some genetic problems seem to be inherited, while others happen randomly.
Although genetics do not fully explain the occurrence of ASD, researchers looked at the additional
environmental causes such as prenatal and perinatal factors, early toxin exposure, viral or bacterial
infections, vaccinations, and autoimmune concerns. Scientists are studying how environmental
factors affect certain genes. By studying how environmental factors affect genes, it provides many
new ways to study how ASD develops and changes over time. ASD affects a child s ability to
interact and communicate with others. No child is the same

Is Hamlet A Tragedy Essay
The play Hamlet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. The play is about a Prince who
was called from the school of Denmark to attend his father s funeral. He was shocked to see his
Queen mother already remarried to his uncle Claudius whom he suspects to be responsible for his
father s death. Hamletthen promised to take revenge on his father s murder.
The play Hamlet is considered as Aristotle s Poetics because it is a well written tragedy. According
to Aristotle, the most important element of the tragedy is plot and followed by others such as
character, diction, thought, song and spectacle. Aristotle defined tragedy as an imitation of an
action that is serious, complete and of a certain magnitude. Aristotelian tragedy is not a narrative ...

Hamartia is a flaws or character s own error which brings a terrible result. For example, Hamlet
hesitates to kill his cruel uncle leads to bring his own destruction. Stabbing Polonius behind the
curtain and his painful action towards his lover Ophelia and declaring that she should be sent to
nunnery which seems to have lost his mind. This leads to his downfall. The second concept
according to Aristotle is Anagnorisis/Recognition which is when the character recognizes the hard
truth. When Hamlet returns to Denmark after his ship is hijacked by pirates, he learns that
Ophelia has committed suicide because of her madness and over her father s death, he realized
his flaw of having mistakenly murder her father and he is unsuccessful in expressing his love and

Revolution in Cosmology Resolves Dispute over Universe s Age
Revolution in Cosmology Resolves Dispute over Universe s Age
Just under seven years ago, astronomers using the Hubble space telescope presented results they
hoped would help answer one of the most contentious issues in astronomy of the 20th century the
question of the distance scale of the universe. But there was some unease when the result was
announced. According to the report, other galaxies were close enough that, extrapolating
backwards from their current rate of recession and making adjustments for the influence of gravity,
they all would have been together (that is, the Big Bang would have occurred) as recently as 8
billion years ago. Unfortunately, there was strong evidence already in place that some stars were at

This problem wasn t solved until the 1920s, when Edwin Hubble devised the first method of
extragalactic distance measurement. His technique relied on stars known as Cepheid variables,
whose luminosities can be easily determined by measuring their rates of pulsation. Comparing this
luminosity with the stars observed brightness allowed Hubble to estimate the distance to Cepheid
stars in such galaxies, affirming their extragalactic location.
That the universe extended beyond the Milky Way was already widely surmised, and this discovery
didn t change much. The revolution came when Hubble compared these newfound distances with
the velocities of galaxies, which can be determined by measuring their color spectra. To his
surprise, he found the two to be nearly linearly correlated, leading to the conclusion that every
galaxy is receding from every other galaxy, and the universe as a whole is expanding.
How does this relate to the age and origin of the universe? The principle is really quite simple: if
the velocity and distance to most galaxies are known, one can extrapolate their motion backward to
find the time that they were all compressed together at the moment of the universe s origin, the Big
Bang. The duration between then and now is the universe s age. Of course, a simple linear
extrapolation won t do; the gravity resulting from matter in the universe can be

A Study On The Healthcare Field
From an early age, I gained much knowledge about the healthcare field. My younger brother was
diagnosed with Autism, Psychosis, and Asperger. My mother was diagnosed with depression,
anxiety disorder, diabetes and hyper blood tension. Due to my mom not being educated, she
cannot read or write in Spanish or English. I was forced to learn everything in the healthcare field.
I quickly became intrigued of each specialized field when I took my family to their doctors
appointments. A few qualities I looked for when searching for new physicianwas affordability,
patient satisfaction, and a well organized practice. Not everyone has affordable insurance, or
receives the best quality of care due to poor organized facilities. My true passion towards the
healthcare field arose when I started on my career in the financial department. I knew that I wanted
to help a group of people and the healthcare facilities to create affordable and quality care. As the
next healthadministrative leader I wantto make a difference by offering a well managed healthcare
facility, providing effective quality care, and high patient satisfaction to all healthcare facilities. In
my current role as a financial counselor, I am exposed to several diverse backgrounds, insurances,
and medical procedures. Each day I learn something new and met new patients that hold an
interesting story. I have learned that their stories are never the same and it s important to treat them
for who they are and not a number. When

Doubt By John Patrick Shanley
In Doubt, a play by John Patrick Shanley, a nun, named Sister Aloysius, tries to prove that a

The Leadership Skills Of The Workplace
Innovation in the workplace is a competitive force that give businesses like Apple and Samsung a
competitive advantage over other competitors. Innovation is not a new concept for businesses in
the workplace, it has been around for a long time. However, businesses are focusing on innovation
because they understand the key benefits of innovation. Innovation is supported in organizations
through different leadershippractices. Discover skills are important in the business and help drive
innovation for organizations. Discovery skills have both strengths and weaknesses and can help or
hurt a leader s ability to support innovation in the workplace.
It would be difficult to choose just two leadership practice that support innovation in organizations.
Leslie (2009) stated that the most needed leadership skills needed now and later in the future were ;
strategic planning, leading employees, inspiring commitment, managing change, being a quick
learner, being resourceful and doing whatever it takes. However, the five leadership skills that are
the most important to support innovation are leading people, strategic planning, inspiring
commitment, managing change and employee development. Leading people is a fundamental
leadership skill that is very powerful, just like the quote says, Set the example for others . If a
leader can set an example for being innovator, the leader can also lead their direct reports to also
drive innovation in their company. Leaders can both motivate and

Portfolio Writing Review And Reflection
Portfolio Writing Review and Reflection
When I started this class, I never thought I was a good writer. Ironically, after this class, I have
learned how to be an organized writer and the term good is extremely unclear and subjective. From
the short stories and questions to the individual essays, each assignment helped me practice and
develop my writing skills. Overall, I think my writing has improved and the process of writing,
something I often over looked, has immensely helped my writing.
My literacy narrative titled, Affinity for Reading , helped me analyze and assess how I really
felt about writing. Reading through my literacy narrative, I see how far I have grown in my
grammar and mechanics and formatting. I remember after I turned the assignment in that I forgot
to change the font to Times New Roman. I thought I was going to fail based on that formatting
error. While I was fleshing out my ideas for the assignment, I sat down at Starbucks and just wrote
any and all memories of reading and writing that I had. It was not incredibly efficient, however, I
learned how to create more structured outlines as the course went on. In addition, I also learned to
triple check basic formatting for each essay to ensure that each essay was as accurate as possible.
My argument analysis titled, The Art of Liberal Arts, allowed me to use several different sources for
writing assistance. I used the Smartthinking website and I also went to the Germanna Student

Tom and Jerry is a hilarious TV show spoken only through site with huge amounts of slapstick
comedy which themes throughout the whole of the tv show and has traces of irony and
surrealism. The TV show tom and jerry is a 1940 animation that is still been made to this day. This

Slapstick is a type of comedy that involves physical exaggeration which exceeds the boundaries
of normal physical comedy, as quoted from the free encyclopedia. This is evident where tom gets
his hands slammed brutally in the window frame and when he finally pulls them out they take the
shape of the frame, this shows slapstick comedy because it amuses the reader for a comic effect
and also is something most definitely you would not see in a normal day it goes beyond physical
comedy as quoted from the free encyclopedia.
Tom and jerry is a successful tv show for the reason of the random arrangements and stuff that
you would never see this day, this makes it different and not mainstream. But to include this in
their tv shows they had to use surrealism. Surrealism is something that you would never see in the
normal world and is completely out of this world they are disjointed ideas to weave together
something blizzar. Surrealism is used when tom is wheeling towards the door and heads straight
towards the house his sudden lurch of his body is surreal and not something you would see. Never
the less it gives it a comic effect and makes it humorous and makes the audience chacinate.
Overall the animation Tom and Jerry is a silent animated TV show that was thought of by Joseph

The Effect Of Public Transport On Public Transportation
2.5
Expectations of grades are directly linked to travel time as users of public transport are less likely
to expect higher grades as compared to the students who use other means.
2.5.1
As the users of public transport are not able to attend as many lectures as their counterparts who
use a car or take a walk to the university, therefore their expectations of higher grades decreases to
some extent.
2.5.2
In order to find out if the statement is true or should be rejected, we will use means of transport
as one category and the other which would be compared is going to be expected grades at the end
of the course. Around 36% of those who use public transport are expecting to receive a 1st class
grade at the end of the year. While the same grade is expected by more than 43% students who use
personal means of transport. Moreover, the mean grade expected by the whole class is 2.1 and
48% students who use public transport are expecting this grade, while 50% who use personal
transport are expecting it. The lowest which is expected by all the students is a pass grade and
75% who expect it use public transport while only 25% of those who expect it are users of
personal transport. Contrastingly, only 6.5% users of public transport expect a pass grade while
9.3% students who use a car or take a walk expect a pass grade. Thus, the statement can be
considered as true.
2.5.3
Our recommendation is that the students should use personal means of transport to save on travel

An Analysis Of Walt Disney s The Lucky Rabbit Shorts
While many were shocked at the blatant racism displayed in The Song of the South, it is not the
first piece of Disney animation to feature controversial material. Walt Disney s Oswald the
Lucky Rabbit shorts had quite a bit of adult humor in it. In one short, Oswald gets chased by a
bear into a cave where a fight takes place. Oswald comes out wearing a fur coat and the bear

An Open Letter On Translating by Martin Luther is a letter about two questions that Worthy N.

state that it is not by works but only by faith that Christians are saved and, additionally, do deceased
saints intercede for Christians. Luther addresses the first question by talking about how the Papists
are asses. The letter specifically writes Dr. Martin Lutherwill have it so and he says that a papist
and an ass are the same thing. The reason for him saying this was because the Papists disagreed
with his new German translation of Romans 3. The translation differentiated from the Latin bible

For the second question, do deceased saints intercede (talk to God) for Christians, Luther responded
by bringing up the point where Papists taught that saints do intercede for Christians. Luther

a single passage from God demanding us to call upon either saints or angels to intercede for us. To

Similarities Between Rainbows End And Rabbit Proof Fence
Discovery Speech Year 12 2017
(Rainbows End Rabbit Proof Fence)
Whether intensely meaningful or confronting, discovery has the power to be transformative
How accurately does this statement reflect the view of discovery explored in Rainbows End and in
the Rabbit Proof Fence?
Discovery is the process by which our lives are enriched, a discovery is a transformative process
that influences the values and perceptions of an individual, group or even the world, it is through
discovery that we grow and begin to view our lives in a new way. Both Rainbows end written by
Jane Harrison and Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce both support this statement through
many techniques such as Flashbacks, Camera Angles, Music, Foreshadowing and Literary
Techniques. This is displayed mainly though the characters Nan Dear from Rainbows End and
Molly Craig from the Rabbit Proof Fence, both of these characters make the most powerful
transformative discoveries as they already had set opinions from the beginning.
Jane Harrison from Rainbows End conveys Nan Dear as an unmovable character. Nan Dears
opinions and attitudes were very fixed from the beginning of the play, this makes Nan Dears

Crusades Religious Meaning
This paper is going to discuss the Crusades religious meaning as a cleansing, the religious
motivations to defeat the enemies of Christendom, the religious manifestations of sewing the sign
of the Cross on clothes, and role of religious institutions, more specifically the Papacy.
I will use the sources given to me to explain the different topic I listed before. I will use both
primary and secondary sources.
The Crusades had many different religious meanings. One of which was a Crusade as cleansing.
By participating in the Crusades one would have a remission of all sins. And for the ones who
could not physically fight in the battles, they would have to help financially.4 Usually Catholics
had to go to a priest for confession and then get penance to get rid of sins. The idea of indulgence
was so popular among the people that the church started promoting it.1 It was also a big attraction
for many soldiers who had man sins from their pasts.1

redemption.2 Another religious manifestation was divine signs. One of the many divine signs
was the cross. The cross became a sign of physical sacrifice. Just as Christ sacrificed himself the
crusaders sacrificed their physical bodies to the cause.4 The final religious manifestation that I
will talk about are the sermons. Many sermons used biblical figures as an example of God
leading them to war, just as God led many Old Testament figures.2 Two of the most used sermons
was the Israelites and the Promised Land and the fight of the Maccabees against their foes. They

The water lapped against the side of the lifeboat and salt spray stung Pierce s face. He wiped a
ragged sleeve across his face and irritated eyes and squinted toward the horizon. In every direction

Lifting the canteen to his lips, he poured warm water onto his parched tongue and then smacked
out the very last drop. With a grimace, he tossed the empty canteen to the floor. Damnit. How
many days since I finished the food? Two, at least, right? How long can I go without water? He

Pierce s heart gave a great leap. A ship. Help. But no, it wasn t a boat; the shape was all wrong.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Person Centred Approach Analysis
A person centred approach is putting another individual s needs, preferences and abilities at the
heart of the care which you provide them. Not only is a person centred approach to be used in a
working environment, but also in personal circumstances where others, such as family members
and friends, are involved. This document evaluates my own strengths when implementing the person
centred approach as well as my weaknesses when I might fail to implement this approach; providing
areas of improvement.
Implementing the person centred approach within work placement highlighted my ability to adapt
an activity to make it beneficial for an individual s development. I have not only utilised this
ability in a work placement, but within my personal life. As I have young family members of
various different ages and personal needs, it is difficult to arrange an activity in which everybody

I have utilised this skill during work placement at a residential home for the elderly where I
recognised when a service user had the ability to eat independently and when a service user might

family member or friend needs assistance with a task and when they do not.
Using and implementing the person centred approach highlighted that I can be ignorant during
teamwork activities by completing a task which benefits my needs and preferences, but not other
team member s needs. In order to improve this weakness, I should begin to communicate with my
team members, drawing up a plan of who is completing which task depending on their preferences

Car Audio History
There are many jobs that involve electrical circuits, such as: a car audio technician, an
electrician, and an instrumentation technician. Though these jobs may be different, they all
have one common thing between them: they all involve electrical circuits. Let s first talk about
a car audio technician. Car audio has come a long way since the first commercial radio, the
Model 5T71, released in 1930. Car audio has evolved from just the basic AM receiver with a
speaker, to a more complex system. Radios today have multiple ways of listening to music, such
as: the radio, itself, CD players, iPods, USB flash drives, SD cards, and Bluetooth. Every car
audio system has three basics parts to it: the head unit (the radio), an amplifier, and the speakers.
When the head unit first came out the only source for audio was AM radio. Many years later,
FM radio, 8 track, and cassettes came out. Many head units today come stock with CD players
and FM radio. Some factory head units can even receive satellite radio. Many cars now come with
Bluetooth, navigation, and various ports for connecting a music player, such as an aux port and
USB port. Most head units offer the ability to adjust the tone of the audio coming out of the... Show

The amplifier makes the sounds coming from the speakers stronger and clearer. The speakers
are what the audio comes through. There are three different types of speakers one can have in
their car audio setup. First, there are the tweeters. The tweeters produce the higher frequency
sounds that the mids and lows can t. Second, there are the mids. The mids produce the middle
ranged frequencies, and lastly, the subwoofer (lows). The subwoofer can produce audio as low as
20 hertz. The way all of these components works is that the amplifier is connected to the car
battery, which provides power, the amplifier is also connected to the radio, which sends a signal to
the amp, telling the speakers what type of audio to

quality education that helps to shape the lives of the nations citizens and continue developing the
productivity and quality of life within Australia. The Australian Curriculum Assessment and
Reporting Authority [ACARA] have the task of developing and implementing a nationwide

Another alternative is that curriculum as an outcome ties together the experiences of learners while
at school with the purpose to achieve goals and objectives (Reid, 2005).
The Australian Curriculum is not designed to stipulate the whole curriculum; rather it is a blueprint
that defines what students across Australia should be taught throughout their schooling years
(ACARA, n.d. g). The Australian Curriculum will provide specific information for the content that
is to be taught, the extent of understanding, level of knowledge and the achievement standards and
skills that will be expected of students (Hill, n.d.). Individual schools, teachers and communities
make decisions about which activities, events and community based traditions to include in the
classroom which focus on personal development and character (Hill, n.d.).
The Goal for Education
When meeting to discuss the educational goals that would apply to the curriculum for Australia,
The Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs
[MCEECDYA] committed to promoting equity and excellence and providing the support that
young Australians need to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals and active
informed citizens (MCEECDYA, 2008). The Australian Curriculum is designed to be world class,
providing challenges for students that prepare them for life long learning (ACARA, 2011b; Brady
Kennedy, 2010). The aims of the Australian

  • 2. The Development Of Self Regulation Amongst Children The development of self regulation amongst children is complex and influenced by a large number of factors such as attunement, family routine, language development, and social interaction, to name just a few (Kopp, 1982). Given these factors are likely influenced by early parent child interactions, and since it s widely known that cultureinfluences parental values and beliefs, one can expect to notice a large difference when comparing parental styles between two contrasting cultures, such as Japan and the United States. Furthermore, it would be expected to find a difference in the development of self regulation between Japanese and American children. Why is Amae important? Amae is a Japanese word lacking an English equivalent, however, in short, is defined as passive love and is often used when describing the most important relationship in Japanese culture: the parent child relationship (Doi, 1973, p. 18). The concept is very much hierarchical and the verb form, amaeru means to seek to fill the desire to be taken care of by someone of authority (Doi, 1973, p. 29). Though the concept of amae is not exclusive to Japanese culture, Japanese is the only language to have a word for it (Doi, 1973, p. 18). Amae is important to understand because it s at the core of Japanese culture, and is an essential part to the Japanese definition of love, extending beyond the mother child relationship and being valued and accepted in any type of adult relationships (Doi, 1973, p. 21). ... • 3. Dartmouth College Vs. Woodward Dartmouth College v. Woodward (1819) Living in the 1800 s was not an easy task. This was the time of child labor and little to no education for kids. The time of having to walk 2 3 miles anywhere and making sure the crops were well enough to sell in the markets. The time of Westward Expansion and the genocide of Native Americans. Eleazar Wheelock, a Puritan minister from Columbia, CT was the one who founded Dartmouth. He initially established the school to train Native Americans as Christian missionaries. His inspiration for the school first came about due to his relationship with a Mohegan Indian Samson Occom. The name of the school was to be Moor s Indian Charity School and was officially established in 1755. It was somewhat successful, but they still needed more funding in order to maintain the schools operations. Wheelock and Occom decided to go to England in 1766 to raise money for the school. Once they raised enough, they made a trust to help the school. The Charity School finally had enough financial support to keep going. But Wheelock had trouble recruiting Native Americans to attend the institution due to the location being far away from the tribal territories. He decided to relocate the school to Hanover, in the Province of New Hampshire. Following the relocation, it was difficult to find resources and secure a charter. Luckily, the Royal Governor of New Hampshire, John Wentworth, provided the land that Dartmouth would be built on and issued a charter in the name ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Gun Assault Shootings More and more often, we are saddened by the news of mass shootings. Whether it takes place in a school or public area, these shootings are both disastrous and mortifying. Families begin to feel anger and sadness and demand immediate justice. Although these terrible events continue to happen, there have been no significant steps taken towards the decrease in the number of weapons; specifically, assault rifles. This leads one to question do we need to ban the right to own such weapons? If the possession of these weapons is not made illegal, we run the risk of another attack. A ban on assault rifles is not the answer because they are not the cause of such events, and it is a constitutional right to own them. In 1994, Congress passed the Federal Assault Weapons Banwhich eliminated the manufacturing of certain assault rifles for private use (Plumer). This bill expired in 2004 and was never redrafted. Many mass shootings in the last few years, especially ones at Virginia Tech, a movie theater in Colorado, and Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut, Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas, First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs have stirred up the pressure to pass a new bill. Biological controls will continually target the pest while not affecting other potentially beneficial coexisting organisms. ASD is now defined as a single disorder and includes disorders that were previously considered separate such as Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, Asperger s Syndrome, and Persuasive Developmental Disorder not otherwise specified. There is no exact cause of ASD, but scientists believe that a variety of factors both genetic and environmental may play a role. Scientists believe that several genes are involved in the development of ASD. There is a genetic susceptibility to ASD. This was initially determined by twin and other family studies. Although many chromosomal and gene abnormalities have been associated with symptoms of ASD, none of these are present in all affected children (Errol, 2014). Scientists believe that some genetic problems seem to be inherited, while others happen randomly. Although genetics do not fully explain the occurrence of ASD, researchers looked at the additional environmental causes such as prenatal and perinatal factors, early toxin exposure, viral or bacterial infections, vaccinations, and autoimmune concerns. Revolution in Cosmology Resolves Dispute over Universe s Age Revolution in Cosmology Resolves Dispute over Universe s Age Just under seven years ago, astronomers using the Hubble space telescope presented results they hoped would help answer one of the most contentious issues in astronomy of the 20th century the question of the distance scale of the universe. But there was some unease when the result was announced. According to the report, other galaxies were close enough that, extrapolating backwards from their current rate of recession and making adjustments for the influence of gravity, they all would have been together (that is, the Big Bang would have occurred) as recently as 8 billion years ago. Unfortunately, there was strong evidence already in place that some stars were at least 12 15 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This problem wasn t solved until the 1920s, when Edwin Hubble devised the first method of extragalactic distance measurement. His technique relied on stars known as Cepheid variables, whose luminosities can be easily determined by measuring their rates of pulsation. Comparing this luminosity with the stars observed brightness allowed Hubble to estimate the distance to Cepheid stars in such galaxies, affirming their extragalactic location. That the universe extended beyond the Milky Way was already widely surmised, and this discovery didn t change much. The revolution came when Hubble compared these newfound distances with the velocities of galaxies, which can be determined by measuring their color spectra. To his surprise, he found the two to be nearly linearly correlated, leading to the conclusion that every galaxy is receding from every other galaxy, and the universe as a whole is expanding. How does this relate to the age and origin of the universe? The principle is really quite simple: if the velocity and distance to most galaxies are known, one can extrapolate their motion backward to find the time that they were all compressed together at the moment of the universe s origin, the Big Bang. The duration between then and now is the universe s age. Of course, a simple linear extrapolation won t do; the gravity resulting from matter in the universe can be ...
