Solomon Northup Research Paper
Although he was born free, Solomon Northup still became a slave under tough circumstances.
Solomon Northup was born in July of 1808, in Minerva, New York. Solomon was born free due
to the death of his father s, Mintus, owner. His father s owner was named Captain Henry Northup,
which is how Solomon and his father received their last name. While Northup was a child, he had
acquired some education, but mainly worked on his family s farm. In 1828, Solomon married
Anne Hampton. In 1834, he and his wife moved to Saratoga Springs, New York. They later had
three children, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Alonzo. While in upstate New York, Solomon Northup
received the reputation of a talented fiddler. Due to his talent in fiddling, two men, who... Show

Ford was known as being very kind to Solomon. However, William Prince Ford had to give
Solomon back to the slave market due to finances. Northup s second owner was John M. Tibaut
who was very brutal to Solomon. Northup was later rescued by Ford s overseer, Andrew Chafin.
He was then sent to Edwin Epps and was a slave under him for the next ten years. His owner,
Edwin Epps, put Solomon in charge over the rest of the slaves. Solomon tried many times to
escape, but was never successful. Finally, in June of 1852, he was able to send letters to his
friends and family back home in New York. In these letters, he told them where he was and all
that had happened to him. In November of 1852, there was a widespread search in order to find
Solomon. Solomon was found in the same year. On January 4, 1853, Solomon legally obtained
total freedom. He was then reunited with his family and friends. In 1853, Solomon wrote a
memoir called Twelve Years a Slave. He could not have done this without the help of his friend,
David Wilson. In the year of 1857, Solomon disappeared from the public eye. After he
disappeared, he then began to help Harriet Tubman with the Underground Railroad. No one is
quite sure how, when, or where Solomon died, On top of not knowing how, when, or where he
died, no one quite knows where Solomon was buried either. Many believe that Solomon died
between 1857 and 1860. They believe this because no one

made in this speech, many of which are inconsistent with the presumption of innocence. Even
assuming the unlawful command influence was not intentional, it nonetheless deprives my client
of his constitutional right to a fair trial.

Clicktivism Book Report
How Clicktivism Killed the Activist Since it s conception, the resounding sentiment at the heart of
any activist movement has been the desire to have one s voice heard. The common ambition of
activists of every kind has always been to represent the needs and injustices of the marginalized
communities in question, and in doing so, to bring about change. Margaret Mead, a cultural
anthropologist, and an outspoken feminist once said, never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed citizens can change the world; indeed it s the only thing that ever has. However, in
recent years, activism has begun to take on a very different form. This once small group of
thoughtful and committed citizens dedicated to justice have multiplied exponentially... Show more

Much of the incentive to become an activist is to be a part of a movement; an integral cog in the
changing of history. One indisputable benefit of social media is its ability to effectively inform
millions of people at once; this is infinitely powerful. The interactive format of social networking
invites individuals to educate themselves on an issue and then to contribute to it, all in under ten
minutes. Despite its efficiency, the detriment of this system is that it perpetuates the idea that the
signing of a change.org petition is all it takes to make a difference. Grassroots activism and
petitioning, while absolutely fundamental parts of the pursuit of social justice are often only the
inciting steps in the lengthy and usually complicated process of creating lasting change. In 2014,
in the wake of the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice, to name just a few, an
international movement protesting police brutality began with the hashtag #blacklivesmatter. The
issue of racially induced police brutality became a relevant topic of debate in the presidential
election that followed, and protests took place worldwide. This movement is winning a major
battle in the war against racism and much of this success was owed to its sensational presence on
social media. The Black Lives Matter movement is an example of social networking being an
invaluable tool in spreading

Socrates Vs Socrates
Socrates and Aristotle would think that philosophy was for the greater good and expanding the
minds of those around them. Socrates in particular would regard philosophy as conversational and
weeding out those who know and those who do not. Aristotle would use philosophy to try to reach
the conclusion on what happiness is. These great thinkers believed absolute contemplation was the
greatest pleasure human beings could reach, so for them philosophywas reaching a type of
Nirvana. Take the Apology as an example of what Socrates thought about philosophy. When
charged with atheism and corrupting the youth he defends himself by claiming he is an ignorant
man. Socrates is on a search for the wisest man after being told by an oracle that it is... Show more

Sadly, we know of Socrates fate and with him trying to change Athens for the better it backfires
on him. But, Socrates leaves those who attended his trial his with some final words that speak to
who he is and how he felt about what he was doing regarding his philosophy. If, I say, now, when,
as I conceive and imagine, God orders me to fulfil the philosopher s mission of searching into
myself and other men, I were to desert my post through fear of death, or any other fear; that
would indeed be strange, and I might justly be arraigned in court for denying the existence of the
gods, if I disobeyed the oracle because I was afraid of death: then I should be fancying that I was
wise when I was not wise. For this fear of death is indeed the pretence of wisdom, and not real
wisdom, being the appearance of knowing the unknown; since no one knows whether death, which
they in their fear apprehend to be the greatest evil, may not be the greatest good (Apology, Plato).
As I stated in my introduction Socrates and Aristotle believed that contemplative thought was the
highest form of human life. That this concept of thinking and attempting to answer life s hardest
questions was the best thing to occur to any human being. When looking at their point of view of
what is the highest kind of pleasure a human can achieve it begs the question if that is

Personal Statement On Social Media
After close analyzation of my five selfies, I have established the three words that most describe
my selfies are shared, joyful, and close. Two of these words accurately describe my identity, one
does not. I don t like to be the center of attention and my selfie reflects this because they all are
sharing the focus with someone or something else, therefore one of my words is shared. I am a
joyful person and my selfie shows this because they are all at a place that makes me feel joy or
with someone or something that brings me joy. The only word that doesn t describe my identity
is close because I don t like to be the main point of focus. The reason for the selfies being a close

significant parts of the selfie and how they are related. What I find most interesting in this selfie
is that we are both dressed in formal attire, her in a dress and myself in a tuxedo. What I find
most strange about this selfie is that I am covering half of my girlfriend in the picture with myself.
What I find most revealing is that I have put myself as the focus point in the selfie. What these
details might lead the viewer to conclude about the rhetoric of the picture is that we are trying to

The B Dubois s Impact On American Society
Chloe Thompson Ms. Webster English III H 5B 4 May 2015 W.E.B DuBois One of the late 19th
century and early 20th century s most prominent black empowerment leaders was W.E.B
DuBois. In research it is clear that DuBois was not subtle to one job or career choice. His main
goal was to improve the lives of African Americans. As a Civil Rights activist, sociologist,
educator, historian, writer, editor, poet, and scholar, DuBois contributed to changing American
society today. On February 23, 1868, William Edward Burghardt DuBois was born to Alfred
Alexander DuBois and Mary Sylvina Burghardt DuBois. Born and raised in Great Barrington,
Massachusetts, DuBois was educated alongside Caucasian children and taught by white teachers
as well. In 1885 he migrated to Nashville, Tennessee to attend Fisk University ( W.E.B DuBois. ).
While at Fisk, DuBois encountered irrational racism and Jim Crow laws for the first time.
According to Derrick Alridge, DuBois focused ... on philosophy, history, and poverty. It was at
this point that he began to form his idea of the talented tenth a cadre of college educated blacks
that would break down the institutional structures of American racism while elevating their race to
a pinnacle of respect in the world community (Alridge). After graduating from Fisk in 1888,
DuBois was accepted into Harvard as a graduate. While at Harvard, he studied abroad at Humboldt

The Establishment Of The European Union ( Eu )
How significant has been the development of the EU s policies concerning the protection of the
natural environmental and climate change? What problems have confronted policy makers in
framing and delivering such policies?
Introduction
The establishment of the European Union (EU) enabled them to handle transnational activities
among the member states, including environmental policy. Its significance situates within its
powers which can manage any other organisations among the member states by virtue of the laws
within the European Union (Baker, 1996, p.215). As a result, it is broadly perceived that there is an
increasing impact from the EU on policy making in the member states. This tendency is particularly
recognised in environmental policy makings, because national standards in law needed to be
questioned and harmonised and policy developments at the European level influences the national
aims, content and settings of environmental policy within the member states (Heinelt et al., 2001).
The area of environmental policy was not established until the first Environmental Action
Programme in 1973 as the major aim for the European Economic Community s agenda was to build
a common institutional framework for mostly economic issues (Jorgensen, 2012). In the next
decades, the development of the area of environmental policy making was accelerated by the the
Single European Act and by the support from the public who tends to have an increasing concern

Phones And Driving
Cell phone use continue to spread like wild fire for many Americans. Cellphones are a part of
everyday life and people depend on them to carry out daily operations and perform numerous
task. Unfortunately, many cell phone operations occur while driving, as a result fatal car
accidents take place daily. Distracted drivers using cell phones has joined alcohol and speeding
as a leading factor in fatal and serious injuries. According to the National Safety Council, cell
phone use is involved in more than a quarter of all vehicle crashes (Newswire, 2017). Parents are
no longer at ease as their teens obtain learners permit and begin driving among millions of
distracted drivers on their cell phone. The situation has heighten over the years to the point of
adults being distracted and driving just as careless as teenagers. It appears like drivers are
ignoring the risk taken by using their cell phones while driving. Major highway changes need to
be made as soon as possible by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The safety of
millions of American motorists should be considered more important than the convenience of
using a cell phone and lawmakers should put a bill in place to completely ban cell phone usage
while driving to limit countless accidents on highways. Despite offering huge benefits, cell phones
have become a grave concern and a major cause of road accidents. Drivers using cell phones are

1.What was the main reason that triggered the Rwandan Genocide on April 7, 1994?
The country of Rwanda comprises an old kingdom that spanned several hundreds of years,
established, ruled and ran by a people who spoke the language Kinyarwanda. Within its years, these
people split into two groups namely the Hutu and the Tutsi. It is unclear why, but it is speculated
that it may have been because of the different occupations they took; the Hutu being farmers and
the Tutsi raising cattle. The Tutsi, despite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What possible benefits did the Kenyans got from the 2007/2008 PEV?
Post election violence occurred following similar ethnic frustrations to the Rwandan Genocide.
Once again, the perceived marginalization of one community economically, politically and socially
led to an uprising that devastated the country. Prior to this, Kenya had been considered the most
stable and the most successful democracies in East Africa following the landslide victory that
overthrew Daniel Arap Moi.
Following the announcement of the election victor on December 27th 2008 and the subsequent
clandestine swearing in ceremony of the announced winner Mwai Kibaki, violence erupted around
the country with tribes of the western part of Kenya namely the Luo and Kalenjin rising up
against the Kikuyu and the latter s retaliation. The violence spread and lasted until February the
next year after which followed the peace, power sharing and mediation talks conducted by Kofi

Antifeminist and Feminism within The Scarlet Letter
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Hester Prynne is accused and convicted of adultery.
During the puritan era women in this society had specific obligations and rights they had to
maintain. By Hester having an affair and acting unladylike the community disapproved of her
actions causing everyone to isolate her in her town. Due to Hester Prynne s Isolation and the
harsh judgment she received from everyone in her town, she goes through having to deal with
Antifeminism acts towards her. Those who lived in the puritan era were not aware that their
behavior and actions towards Hester and those who were associated with her were considered

By her paving her own way and doing what she thinks is best for her self and not sticking to the
Status quo, she appeared to be fearless and Bold to those in the puritan era. Because of the actions
Hester Prynne s displayed she would be considered a modern day feminist, one who believes that
women and men should have equal rights. In The Scarlet Letter Hester going against what society
think is acceptable for a women living during the puritan era shows how she fits the modern
expectations of feminism. Once Hester is punished and convicted we slowly start seeing the change
in people in her community s behavior towards her. Throughout The Scarlet Letter Hester goes

revolves around mechanism by which neutrophils react in the body. According to Margaroli, C.,
and R. Tirouvanziam, neutrophils might not be the tight and ridged leukocytes they were previous
thought to be, rather they have a lot of elasticity when it comes to how they unfold in the tissues in
the body (Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1). This neutrophil elasticity creates a perfect setting for
diseased microenvironments to grow in the body which is often associated with lung disease and
C.F. (Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1). In C.F. patient s neutrophils are often over worked and there

Social Learning Theory Case Study
Social learning:
The social learning theory is one the most significant theories that came about in the 1960s by
Albert Bandura as it made it clear as to how individuals acquire and develop new behaviors through
modeling others behaviors. As indicated by (Chavis, 2012), social learning theory is of great of
importance due to its sheer influence on human development, and it s established in many of the
fundamental concepts of traditional learning. The theory focuses on the social context in which
learning takes place, and it suggests that people learn from each other (Chavis, 2012). Therefore,
social learning theory helps us explain why individuals behave in a certain way. Bandura didn t

Operant conditioning argues that animals and humans alike tend to behave in social context based
on the outcomes of their behaviors (Kretchmar, 2015). Negative outcome punishment decreases the
chance of individuals to behave in a certain way, while positive outcome reinforcement increases
the probability for individuals to show a particular behavior (Kretchmar, 2015). Bandura thought
operant conditioning was an insufficient theory for explaining observational learning (Kretchmar,
2015). According to (Kretchmar, 2015), Bandura wasn t in agreement with behaviorists who
considered reinforcement as a necessary component of learning, and he demonstrated that behavior
and learning are different from each other. Bandura suggested that people tend to imitate whatever
they happen to watch even if they are not reinforced for that behavior (Kretchmar, 2015). This
simply happens when they see that other people get reinforced for their exhibited behavior,
subsequently this works as an incentive for them to reproduce this behavior (Kretchmar, 2015).
Being aware of the limitations of behaviorism and operant conditioning, Bandura considered
coming up with a new theory social learning which was first called

Cultural Values In Sibi And The Breast-Giver By Devi
Analyzing Sibi by Mahabharata and The Breast Giver by Devi and its contexts allow the
audience to pinpoint similar principles and values, despite obvious story telling difference. In
the story Sibi, the king sacrifices himself in order to keep peace because of the reoccurring
selflessness as he cares or his kingdom and all the living things in it. In a similar fashion, in The
Breast Giver, Jashoda ends up giving her life away in order to serve as a mother to many people.
Both stories overlap the idea that doing what is morally correct is for the greater good, even if that
means self sacrifice.

the story because the hawk is also forced to defend his kingdom, being his family by supplying it
with food. Because of the king s brave actions, the king and the hawk both fulfill their destiny.
Sibi s story reflects the idea that there is no difference between good, bad, hero or villain. Both
Sibi and the Hawk have a duty to protect their own environments and the living things around
them. One of the Hawks duties being having to feed his own makes killing the dove a normal part
of living. Even though Sibi internally disagrees because the dove came from his kingdom he
understands that the hawk has to fulfill his destiny. By accepting this idea one can come to the
realization that neither one of the characters is wrong or evil. On the other hand, both of the
characters could be viewed as heroes since they act on their own dharma and positions in life.
Nonetheless, considering The Breast Giver, the Indian caste system seems to be extremely
important to the characters all throughout the story. The characters frequently mention each other
with the titles based on the caste system involving social position. The narrative portrays
traditional reverence for Brahmins as well off upper class men. Jashoda s

Reflection About Relationships
In the two years we have been together, my boyfriend, Andy, and I never talked about what we
considered cheating to be. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with
one of my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. I had told him in the past that I was not
comfortable with him being out with a girl late at night, but never fully elaborated on it. Realizing
that he had done something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and
kept his outing from me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no
boundaries to break. Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your
significant other about, but he sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your
significant other. He saw it as him doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was
nowhere near cheating. Our disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and
expectations for each other.
In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let
me know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in
contact with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always
comfortable with the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. He had complete trust in me and
never minded the time or the place. Growing up, his father had an intimate relationship with another
woman, so to him, that was

Case Handling Of Dr. Miner s Report
This file has recently been transferred to me for further defense handling. If you have any
questions or comments on this claim, please do not hesitate to contact me. It is my practice to
return all communications within 24 hours, if possible. I look forward to working with you as we
bring this claim to an equitable conclusion in the near future.
At this time, we are set to depose the Panel Qualified Medical Evaluator, Dr. Maureen Miner, on
May 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
Background
Please allow me to make some correction to the rating of Dr. Miner s report. It appears Dr. Miner
used the range of motion measurement from the right shoulder [uninvolved joint] as a baseline to
determine the impairment to the left shoulder as a result of a ... Show more content on

Based on my review of his report, I do not believe the applicant has sought any treatment or made
any significant complaints with respect to the left shoulder. I only saw the mentioning of a
shoulder pain as a result of the chest wall and sternal discomfort as the applicant was unable to
raise his hands over his head at the time. There was no specific mentioning of the left shoulder.
Second, I would like to question Dr. Minor about his impairment finding for the bilateral knees.
More specifically, I would like to know where he saw a 1mm cartilage loss of both knees. I
suspect he must have seen it on an imaging study (i.e., X ray or MRI) but it was not explicitly
documented in the report (or I may have missed it).
Third, I will question him about his finding of impairment as a result of a sleep disorder and
cognitive impairment. More specifically, I would like to know if there are any objective findings to
support these impairments.
Fourth, I will question him about his impairment findings regarding binaural as well as the 3% pain
add on for tinnitus. I believe the binaural impairment was given in connection with the applicant s
left ear problem. Also, pain add on is inappropriate to increase an impairment on a body part with
zero impairment. If we could change Dr. Minor s opinion on the base impairment for the applicant
s ear problem, we may be able to wash out the 3% pain add on all together.
Fifth, I will question him about his apportionment

Research Paper On Abolishment Of Slavery
Often times in America, land of the free, diversity is celebrated in order to create peace between
cultures and establish a safe area where people will be judged for who they are rather than by
the color of their skin. This idea of a picture perfect world may never exist however, based on the
fact that diversity seems to create conflict a lot more often than resolve. All cultural conflicts spark
from the shared roots of oppression and varying beliefs.
The oppression of entire cultures lead to one the most most hated practices in America. For many
years slavery oppressed minorities within the U.S. Looking back, there is no way to defend the
ethical malpractice that is slavery, therefore it was abolished. However the abolishment of slavery
lead to one a the scariest American based cultural conflicts. For a large portion of white people in
the USA from 1776 1864 slavery was a simple way to feed the corrupt monster within known as
laziness, but sadly it lead to extreme abuse of the minorities. The southern culture was very pro

The Power To Change The Ordinary Village
The Power to Change the Ordinary Village One of the people who influenced Gabriel Garcia

the Magical Realism story, the reader is introduced to the irreducible element, something we cannot

The Umayyad And The Golden Age
The long tale of how the Abbasids came into creating the finest era the Islamic world has ever
known started off in 750. Due to the Abbasids and the Prophet (PBUH) originating from a
common ancestor, the Abbasids believed that they were more entitled to leadership than the
currently reigning Umayyad dynasty, which was very prejudiced against non Arabs and unjust in
their rule. With the help of Persians, and several other newly converted Muslims, the Abbasids
fought against the Umayyad forces in the Battle of the Zab. Commanded by the Persian leader Abu
Muslim, the Abbasid s army defeated the Umayyad s. The first Caliph was Abu Al Abbas (Al

For some time, the only form of writing material was exported from Egypt; papyrus was a rough
substance that was made from a plant and used to write on. After the capture of a couple of

and economical material spread through Baghdad. More efficient methods of creating gunpowder,
silk and poetry, and alchemy were also learnt from the Chinese. From India, the field of
mathematics was greatly improved as the concept of zero and Indian numerals made mathematics
much more comprehensible. Muhammad Ibn Musa Al Khwarizmi who is known as the father of
algebra conveyed this mathematical system of reckoning. From the Persians, disciplines of
administration such as the secretarial staff and their genre of writing were introduced, along with
methods of agriculture and irrigation. Scientists such as Ibn Sina revolutionized the field of
medicine with his works, one of which is the book, the Canon of Medicine. Another scientists is Al

The Problem Of World Hunger
Growing up, the commercials of starving children in Africa in need of food because of rampant
starvation and the pervasive threat of death have been streaming on various media. World Hunger
is one of the main problems that a large portion of the global population faces today. Hunger varies
with severity but in this case it is the want of food in a third world country. World hunger is a
problem that has existed for much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns
because it is barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating
factors and principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation, climate
changes, etc. But the main debilitating factor is povertyas poverty always has led to people going
without regular meals because they cannot afford to eat. There are vast quantities of people in
third world nations and developing countries that are so impoverished that are in desperate need
for food. Whether a country is rich or poor, there are always tremendous numbers of people dealing
with poverty and hunger. Perhaps most disheartening is the cruel reality that most of the victims are
young children. Hunger is a very serious issue that cannot easily be remedied.
As a matter of fact, people all over the world mainly concentrated in developing countries die
because of hunger and starvation on a daily basis. With the growth of population, the number of
hungry people also increases at a disproportionate rate.

The Benefits Of Genetic Engineering
The article is based on the fact that microbes are capable of changing carbon dioxide into biomass.
In most cases, the organism derives energy from sunlight, photoautotrophy and also from inorganic
electronic donors, chemolithoautotrophy. It is by this that the authors claim that the potential for
this organism to be used for the large scale industrial production of biofuels and other useful
chemicals remains largely untapped. The employment of genetic engineering to augment the
autotrophic host s productivity pathways offers hope for improved and increased productivity.
Other techniques entail the transfer of the processes to heterotrophic organisms.
Autotrophic production is said to be more efficient as a source of fuel than that from ... Show more

This has given rise to microbial electrosynthesis where chemolithoautotrophs are used to generate
chemicals and biofuels are generated from electron donors. Non carbon electron donors include H2,
Fe2+, NH4 and all are produced and mobilized by electrical energy.
A suitable host physiologically, genetically and biochemically forms the basis for efficient
autotrophic production. The heterotrophs Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae have so
far been ideal. However, these organisms will have to be transformed to full autotrophs using
sophisticated and complex engineering methods. The use of mixotrophy where autotrophs systems
are incorporated into heterotrophs seems to give better outcomes.
The natural photoautotrophic microorganism is categorized into oxygenic and anoxygenic groups.
Oxygenic photoautotrophs such as Cyanobacterial Synechocystis species and Synechococcus
species have been used in conjunction with metabolic engineering to produce isobutyraldehyde, l
lactic acid and 2,3 butanediol. Eukaryotic microalgae such as Chlamydomonas reimnhardtii can
produce lipids and alkanes. Oxygenic photoautotrophs possess water splitting oxygen producing
photosystems. These systems can produce reducing power and a proton gradient for ATP energy
production.
The photosystems of anoxygenic photolithoautotrophic microorganisms cannot split water. They
rely on inorganic electronic donors to generate reducing power. An example is Rhodabacter

El Dorado In The Film The Invention Of Lying
Virtues are the core characteristics valued by moral philosophers and religious thinkers: wisdom,
courage, humanity, justice, temperance, and transcendence. (Peterson 13) An exaggerated
example demonstrating virtue would be a nun who has never lied, cheated, or stolen at any point
in her life. El Dorado is a Utopian society with no crime or need for government outside of a king,
although the king simply acts like everyone else s equal. The concepts of El Dorado and virtue
practically go hand in hand. El Dorado not only suggests the idea that humans are capable of
virtue, but thrives on the idea. In order for El Dorado to not have a government besides a leader,
the citizens would have to trust that everyone in the city will remain virtuous.
In order for someone to imagine anything close to that of El Dorado, one would have to imagine a
world such as that in the movie The Invention of Lying . Everyone just tells the truth no matter
how stupid or scary it may seem, and everyone trusts that the other person is doing the same.
(Huggo) A majority of people anymore would consider it a very scary thought to have to trust that
everyone will just do the right thing. People s distrust in others could be a result of many factors,
the more prominent constants being that too many people prove to each other that they are

and even in our local area understand the important role Eglin Air Force Base played during World
War II. The primary mission of the Base during World War II was to perform operational suitability

Eglin Air Force Base was originally started as Valparaiso Airport in 1933. There was a purchase of
an arrow head shaped parcel of 137 acres. The area was cleared for use as an airdrome. On 1 March

Harbor. In May 1941, the Army Air Corps designated Eglin as the Air Corps Proving Ground,
removing it from the jurisdiction of the Southeast Air Corps Training Command and placing the
base immediately under the control of the Chief of Air Corps. The primary purpose of the Proving

Due to increasing size, Eglin Field was renamed Eglin Field Military Reservation in recognition

electrical facilities, sidewalks, roads, fences, parking areas, landscaping and for the construction
of a sewage disposal plant. Submitted to the WPA headquarters in Washington, DC in late

led people, especially the parents, to look out for solutions to educational needs of these special
children. Of late, the solution has come in the form of information and communication technology
(ICT) tools, which helps and enhances the learning expectations of these persons. Prior to ICT in
terventions, the field of education was the first to develop a range of special education
programmes that have helped persons with disabilities to get educated. In recent years, ICT is
playing a vital role in the development of educational curriculum and also in teaching learning
process using the latest advancements in the area of IT and hardware. It supports these students to
improve their knowledge and learning skills as well as enables them to most effectively compete

Dogma Rules Add “Character” to Italian for Beginners
Dogma Rules Add Character to Italian for Beginners Art films are different from mainstream films
in many aspects including acting, plot, and setting. Art filmmakers use different techniques to
distinguish their films from mainstream films. The movement away from mainstream filmmaking
occurred through the creation of the Dogma Manifesto. Dogma 95 was a set of rules for film
production that forced filmmakers to innovate through new methods of filmmaking. One such film
created according to the rules of Dogma 95 is Italian for Beginners. Although Italian for Beginners

He conveys these through simple responses, for example, when he shies away from women and

not only many takes of the same scene but also improvised and alternative takes (Schepelern 87).
Therefore, the actor cannot base his or her character on the events that will occur. The actor must

the predictability of characters in those films. This film was original because the actors were

How Planning A Program Has Brought Me

program has brought me. Program planning, is something that has always fascinated me. I
thoroughly enjoyed learning more about what are important aspects of planning a program. What
was truly great about this experience was the idea that we would be helping others. I will discuss
what I have learned from developing the program to the conclusion of the event. Furthermore, I
will talk about what I can do differently the next time I am apart of a group that is planning a
program. Also, there will be sections about what I would change for futureprograms or what I can
take away from the planning of this specific program.

In regards to communication between groups, being apart of the finance group we had difficulties
obtaining the final budgets from each group. Even when we told the leaders to remind all the
groups that we need their updated budgets we still had issues with receiving them. Another
challenge that we had was deciding on a theme. I feel that it took as a large chunk of planning
time just deciding on what we wanted to do. If we would have established a theme in the
beginning of the planning, we could have had more time making decorations or props rather than
doing them the night before. This may have reduced the stress levels. Additionally, it would have
been nice to have an increase in numbers. Understanding that this was the first time putting on the
event it is hard to get a large crowd to come. There might have been a chance to have an increase
in numbers if there was more time to get the word out and we tried to have each staff member

Religion and Blasphemy Ideology
Chapter 9 Question 2
Trace the origin of the law of blasphemy and explain the relevance or otherwise of this law
Introduction
Blasphemy is the act of insulting or showing open disrespect of God through display of
inappropriate behavior towards holy personages, religious artifacts, customs and beliefs. The word
blasphemy came via Middle English blasfemen, from which the English term blame came into
existence (Wikipedia.com n.d). Blasphemy is regarded as an offense against the community to
varying degrees, depending on the extent of the identification of a religion with the society at large
or the government. Blasphemy has been a crime in many religions and cultures, wherever there is
something sacred to protect.

In New Testament times, it was this Old Testament law against blasphemy that the Scribes,
Pharisees, Chief Priests and rulers of the people used in order to condemn anyone who spoke out
against the corruption of their religious order (Truth in history, n.d).
There was one such case in Australia back in 1871 when William Lorando Jones was prosecuted
for claiming that the Bible was the most immoral book that ever has been published and not a fit
book for any female to read , and that the children of Israel murdered the Egyptians, and that
Elisha murdered a number of priests of Baal by his God s authority and that Moses saved 40,000
Midianitish women to make them prostitute to his soldiers (Arnold, 2008). Mr. Jones had been
reading the Old Testament and in retrospect his claims echo comments made by biblical scholars
since at least the 1850s. Jones was preaching blasphemous verse to the local masses in suburban
Parramatta, Sydney and was convicted with a ВЈ100 fine. The case of The Queen against William
Lorando Jones proved the churches fear of Blasphemy among the common people due to its
potential to orientate the lesser educated community against the state. From a media sociological
perspective, the church feared that the community would become an active audience in making
choices about what

Negative Affects Of Helicopter Parents
Negative Affects of Helicopter Parents in Youth Sport Throughout my whole life all I could
really remember is playing sports and always playing them very competitively, and having my
parents very involved. There was a lot of pressure put on me from a young age, all the way up
into even now playing college football. I was raised with helicopter parents rather than the laid
back parents. The best moments I can remember is just throwing the football around and playing
small games in the neighborhood, no pressure just simply playing because I want to. Unnecessary
pressure on sport from parents and what style of parentingis something I have put a lot of time and
effort into studying. Putting to much pressure on your kids in sport could lead to; physiological
affects, bad relationship with the parents, eating disorders, burnout of sports all together, kid not

Popularised Explanation Of Memory
Memory is a complicated topic to describe, as its role, theory and application differs from person
to person. A popularised explanation of memory involves a tiered or levelled approach, ranging
from a holistic to a reductionist description (Bilkey, 2016). The Social and cultural level of memory
refers to information stored in museums, libraries and oral history. Individual memoryis another
level of description, and is specific to the person; what they did that day, or ate for example. At the
reductionist spectrum of memory is the biological level, describing the fundamental process in the
body that lead to memory formation, such as synaptic modulation and information encoding in

Fear Of Spiders Research Paper
Arachnophobia is the all encompassing fear of spiders. If you are like most people, you have at
least a touch of the phobia. While you might not have an irrational fear like those who suffer with
the condition, you likely don t care much for the small, eight legged arachnids. That makes you
normal. Thankfully, though, in South Carolina there are very few spiders that can do you any
actual harm. They are the most terrifying spiders found in the Carolinas:
The Black Widow:
You are probably familiar with the black widow s appearance. It has an almost glossy sheen to its
body and has an hourglass shaped red mark on the underside of its abdomen. The made widow
spider is smaller than the female version and rarely bite. The more aggressive females bite more
often but still will usually bite only in defense. The most common reason for them to attack is if
they are guarding eggs or laying eggs.
The female black widow prefers to spin her silken web in a protected space, such as under decks,
house steps or stones. They are rarely found inside of houses. The black widow bite produces

However, its hiding places can lead to accidental bites as they like to hide in ceiling light fixtures,

The Jazz Age Of The Roaring Twenties
The Roaring Twenties, a time of social change, industrialization, and excitement. The Roaring
Twenties is often times viewed as an explosive time in history, which lasted from the years 1919
1929. Rather than focusing on the negative things that were going on in their lives, the roaring
twenties was a time of fun, partying, and all around recklessness. The Roaring twentiesprovided
growth in many different areas, including art, music, and fashion. With the help of this electrifying
decade, American was finally able to grow past the overwhelmingly traditional means of
operation. The Roaring Twenties, a period of time that occurred after World War I, marked a new
era. The era was the beginning of an economic boom that would leave a lasting impact... Show more

Music is a universal form of entertainment and was extremely prevalent during the 1920 s. Black
males originally only played jazz music from Louisiana, but soon it spread across big urban
cities like New York and Chicago. Jazz music quickly became a signature sound for the era. After
all, Jazz was a style of music that most people during that time may not have known existed. The
cultural expansion of such artists like Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton took America by
storm. Jazz music was popular amongst both the upper and lower social classes. Jazz was so
popular that people began making dances like the Charleston. Dancing and music were only two
of the forms of entertainment during this period. However, there were so many more
entertainment options. There were films. Studies show that 100 million Americans went to see
the movies every week by the end of the year 1929 (bbc.com). Films were like modern day fashion
news. The films kept all of the women up to date with the new styles and norms of the society. For
example, Clara Bow was known for leaving a good impression on women and somehow made
every female in 1920 s New York Citywant to be her. They were highly influenced by these films
and idolized and imitated the actor s behaviors. Yes, there were films so of course there were
books. The 1920 s was a time that inspired some of American s popular literary works, like The
Great Gatsby. Through such works, people are able to vividly visualize why the twenties are
referred to as roaring . The actual entertainment during that time was impeccable and

Catullus Affair With Lesbia
The tale of Catullus and his affair with Lesbia is an interesting one. He conveys his emotions of
love, happiness, sadness, and possibly anger throughout the poems. In V, their love affair is in its
honeymoon stage of extreme love and affection. Catullus especially conveys these emotions in the
line Let thoughts kisses rain, a thousand bliss. The poem sounds as if he were directly talking to
Lesbia and telling her to be just as enraptured by their loveas he is. Although her emotions are not
revealed, both characters are most likely very emotionally invested in one another. The poem
LXXXVII explains Catullusis very in love with Lesbia, but it sounds as if someone were doubting
their love. Catullus felt the need to prove his love or at least

Gregory Blaxland Research Paper
On Tuesday, May 11, 1813, Gregory Blaxland, William Wentworth, and William Lawson, who
were attended by four convict servants, five dogs, and four horses with food, ammunition, and
other necessary items, left Gregory Blaxland s farm at the South Creek , for the purpose of
endeavouring to effect a passage over the Blue Mountains, between the Western River, and the
River Grose. They crossed the Nepean, or Hawkesbury River, at the ford, on to Emu Island , at
four o clock p.m., and having proceeded, according to their calculation, two miles in a south west
direction, through forest land and good pasture, encamped at five o clock at the foot of the first
ridge. The distance travelled on this and on the subsequent days was computed by time, the rate
being estimated at about two miles per hour. Thus far they were accompanied by two other

Here they found a large lagoon of good water, full of very coarse rushes. The high land of Grose
Head appeared before them at about seven miles distance, bearing north by east. They proceeded
this day about three miles and a quarter, in a direction varying from south west to west north
west; but, for a third of the way, due west. The land was covered with scrubby brush wood, very
thick in places, with some trees of ordinary timber, which much incommoded the horses. The
greater part of the way they had deep rocky gullies on each side of their track, and the ridge they
followed was very crooked and intricate. In the evening they encamped at the head of a deep gully,
which they had to descend for water; they found but just enough for the night, contained in a hole
in the rock, near which they met with a kangaroo, who had just been killed by an eagle. A small
patch of grass supplied the horses for the

The Medical Practices Of The Hmong
Medicine, to the modern day world, is a way of healing the sick and helping people experience
life to their full potential. It is an ingredient of a culture that allows the culture to survive through
decades and centuries at a time. But what if the medicine that we know as helpful is actually
harmful? When a child cuts their knee the first thing an adult would do is check the scrape and
then assess the damage. After assessing the damage, the adult would normally plan a course of
treatment to ensure the child would not lose a limb in the near future. After treating the child with a
mixture of antibacterial wipes, bandages and ice cream, what if the child is not better, but actually
worse? That is what happens when you compare the medical practices of the Hmong to the medical
practices of the Americans, both cultures believe that the others will cause more damage than good
in respect to healingthe souland body.
For the Hmong, there is a whole world out there, with amazing techniques, yet sometimes the
simplest questions like the choice between life and death create extreme conflict. Anne Fadiman
accounts a young woman by the name of Teresa Callahan who really is between the choice of life
and death, I [the doctor] told her over and over again that if the tube ruptured at home she might
die before she could get to the hospital. I called her husband and her mother and her father and
grandparents, and they all said nope (Anne Fadiman 71). What is amazing to think that in a

Transformation Of Bilbo Baggins In The Hobbit By J. R.
The Hobbit is a book written by J.R.R. Tolkien that has entertained people for decades. The Hobbit
is an adventure fiction story. The main theme is the development and transformation of Bilbo
Baggins into a hero and an outgoing person. I chose this theme because at the beginning of the
story, Bilbo is a person that only worries about himself and only focuses on the comforts in life;
and is very introverted. Towards the ending of the story, Bilbo transforms into a hero due to the
situations he encounters.
The setting of the story occurs in a fictional place called Middle Earth. We don t know the year the
story takes place in. Consisting in northern Middle Earth is the Shire, the lush pasture in which
hobbits reside, along with the western lands. The Misty Mountains run directly through northern
Middle Earth from north to south. Beyond the Misty Mountains to the east lies the dreaded forest
of Mirkwood, which is of immense size. To the north of Mirkwood lie the Grey Mountains, which
are not very important in this book. To the east of Mirkwood lies the Running River and Lake
Town, and the Lonely Mountain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit from the Shire, ventures out on a long and treacherous journey throughout
Middle Earth in companion with dwarves. The dwarves consisted of Thorin Oakenshield and
thirteen others. Thorin comes from a family where his father and grandfather were given the title
King Under the Mountain, which refers to the Lonely Mountain. Thorin s ancestors had
accumulated a great amount of wealth, and were prospering in the valley of the Lonely Mountain.
However, a fiendish dragon by the name of Smaug had seen this great wealth, and was overtaken
by greed. He killed everyone and burned the surrounding villages. He has ever since been guarding
the treasure within the Lonely Mountain. This is why Thorin has set out on an adventure to
reclaim the

Trade In Mesopotamia
Trade is more important than conquest because when an area is thriving in trade people will
want to control that land and try to conquer it. Mesopotamia is successful in trade because of the
location. The land is fertile and flat. This means the land is easy to access, which is great for
trading. The Sumerians traveled and traded bringing new ideas back and improving on older ideas.
They also learned from experience. The land was prone to unpredictable flooding and they adapted
and made irrigation and drainage systems. People who want power want the best location they can
get with the most potential for trading. In Mesopotamia, Sargon ruled for a while and then the
Hittites, the Assyrians, and eventually the Persians ruled the Mesopotamia area.

How Discipline Is Not Easy
Discipline has always been, to me, a thought of growing in yourself or in this case growing in
your relationship with Christ. Discipline is not easy, in fact, it is hard, but the results are what we
discipline ourselves for. Celebration of Discipline was a very eye opening and insightful book in
many aspects. Foster, the author, describes spiritual discipline as an inward and outward reality.
Meaning, the inner and outward attitude of the discipline. The bible uses spiritual discipline to
describe fasting, prayer, worship, and even celebration. When Jesusspoke of spiritual discipline, he
hardly gives instruction of how to discipline ourselves spiritually. This book book gives more of
an outline/guidance to types of disciplines that could help you in your spiritual journey. There are
three types of disciplines discussed in this book, along with many sub categories within each type.
All these groups are used to help one form a more well rounded spiritual life. The types are
inward, outward, and corporate discipline. Inward discipline is a type of discipline that focuses on
your inner self/spiritual life. This involves things like praying, meditation, fasting, and studying.
Outward disciple is more of what you can do as an individual to discipline yourself spiritually, such
as simplicity, solitude, submission, and service. These are still self centered but more focused on
the outside actions rather than the inside actions. Finally, we have the corporate discipline. This

Analysis Of The Book The Hobbit Essay
Novel Paper: The Hobbit When you think of a hero, is the first character to pop in your head a
little hobbit named Bilbo Baggins? In most cases, people think of Superman or Hercules, but in
The Hobbit, an unexpected hero emerges and changes the name for all heroes to come. The Hobbit
is a novel about Bilbo Bagginsand his journey, with thirteen dwarves and a wizard, seeking the
treasure stolen by the dragon, Smaug. While on this unexpected journey, Bilbo and his companions
overcome many obstacles to eventually get to the treasure and retrieve it. Throughout the story,
Bilbo develops into a courageous man, who indeed, is a hero. Richard Tyre wrote an article, You
Can t Teach Tolkien, and he explains his theory in which he connects multiple story s plot with six
elements. The Hobbit, is assuredly a prime example of Tyre s theory because it follows all six
steps throughout the story simultaneously. The six elements are; (1) those who hunt for treasure,
(2) must go alone, (3) at night, (4) and when they find it, (5) they must leave some of their blood
behind, (6) and the treasure is never what they expected (Tyre 19). These elements are steps in
which a character must take to emerge into a hero in the end. Bilbo Baggins is the hero in The
Hobbit, but he doesn t start off as the hero. He has always had heroic traits but throughout the
novel, he pursues those six steps and in the resolution, he is transformed into an actual hero. The
first element in Tyre s theory is (1)

Capturing the investors imagination with your pitch deck
Now you have the building blocks of a great deck.
You ve seen examples of the slides that work and why they work.
You are aware of the information investors want to see, why they want to see it and how you can
convey it convincingly.
But how do you put these elements together?
What are the fundamentals of a winning pitch deck?
It s time to pay attention to the finer details combining your slides and the information about your
startup with a good storytelling structure.
As I ve outlined before, your pitch deck must tell a story it must not be a list of figures and facts but
an engaging journey down the path your startup is on from the idea to the business.
So, you need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

They tell a story
Pitch decks tell stories.
And stories often follow a specific structure, which you should use as the basis for your deck.
The winning storytelling formula comes in the form of Freytag s Pyramid:
ADD IMAGE
So, what does it mean for your pitch deck?
Let s look at the possibilities it offers in its purest form:
THE EXPOSITION INTRODUCE THE TEAM AND THE COMPANY PURPOSE (VISION)
INCITING INCIDENT OUTLINE THE PROBLEM
RISING ACTION SET OUT THE CURRENT MARKET, COMPETITION
CLIMAX PROVIDE THE SOLUTION, SHOW THE UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION
FALLING ACTION INTRODUCE THE FINANCIALS
RESOLUTION OUTLINE THE BUSINESS MODEL, FUNDRAISING STRATEGY
DENOUEMENT TALK ABOUT TRENDS AND FUTURE PREDICTIONS
That s the basic composition for a good story and a solid way of structuring your essential slides.
However, you can change the impact of your story focusing on how you tell the story, even if you
don t fundamentally change the structure of the slides.
Soren Petersen and Steven Bussard brought up two great examples of this in their blog post Using
Storytelling to Pitch Startups .
They used the slides introduced by Guy Kawasaki and noted that by changing the structure slightly
and focusing on how you engage the listener, you can create different types of stories.
First, you could tell an origin story emphasising how things started with your

What Does This Quote Mean To Me
1.What is your personal maxim/quote? My maxim/quote is number 35, there is no wrong time
to do the right thing by H. Jackson Brown. 2.What does this quote mean to you? What was the
personal reason you choose to write about this quote? My mom taught me this quote back in
middle school basketball when I did not help a person up on the court. Until this day I always
have went by this quote and I just been so lucky to find it on this paper. Even today, I strive to
get myself to follow this quote no matter what happened or what did happen, I try to the best
person I possibly can. 3.Give a real life example of what this quote is about. If the quote does not
apply to you directly, what kind of person or situation where it would apply. Be sure to give the
quote a foundation or value to refer to when writing. Include two points you can use in your thesis.

How would the world be a better place if everyone lived up to the value presented? This world
today in my opinion could use some manners. If everyone was to be more polite to one another,
our world would be doing bigger and better things then it already has been. Being polite is simply
the act of showing good manners to someone, it s really not that hard to use your please and
thank you, or to even just give a nice little comment to someone. Another right thing to do is to
be kind; holding the door, help someone carries stuff if his or her hands are full, complementing
on some one. The little things like that can brighten someone s day just like that. Being polite
and kind to someone can change their life. The simply words of how are you or you look nice
today can really make someone happy. Those actions can be used anywhere from the basketball
court, to streets, in church, or literally anywhere. The feeling of doing the right thing not only puts
the person you are helping in a good mood but also it may put you in one

Writing Style Fit For All Audiences
Molding A Writing Style Fit For All Audiences
My goal is to learn how to make my writing flexible to satisfy different groups while keeping it on
point. When looking at my current work and self reflecting I quickly recognized that my writing
was sloppy and liberal. Why are my writings producing these kind of results? I formed a
conclusion that my High School teachers were to blame. I was so stuck on robotically writing
summaries for teachers, including English teachers, that I rarely had the chance to think for
myself. I never had the opportunity to actually learn how to write in my own words, even when
the teacher said write in your own words . There was always an agenda to follow, never your own
opinion, never the I . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also found it very useful to critique, reflect, ask other people opinions and read my work aloud.
This allows me to get a second and third opinion on my work. The exercise that we did in class
where we swapped essays, convinced me that a second set of eyes is very handy.
There is yet another issue that arises. Because I never learned a writing process, how would I
start forming my own? I figured the best way to start is to learn from others. In order to become
a good writer I would have to learn the jargon that is literature. For example after reading Orlean
Anderson s journal I chose Bob Ingalls to be sort of my mentor in my middle draft. Like Obi
Wan Kenobi in Star Wars, he would mentor this Luke Skywalker in the ways of proper writing.
He brought up many points that really interested me. With his advice I will form my own writing
process by imitating style, reading and building upon an author s ideas. I should be getting my
ideas from authors and writers who know what they re doing. With this in mind, I can shed the
High School English approach of write down what we want you to write down, not write down
what is on your mind . They could ve at least taught us as students how to come up with ideas and
focus on quality, rather than focusing on volume and tell us to write more to fix our writing which
is redundant. They focused on interpreting authors and not emulating them.

  • 2. Solomon Northup Research Paper Although he was born free, Solomon Northup still became a slave under tough circumstances. Solomon Northup was born in July of 1808, in Minerva, New York. Solomon was born free due to the death of his father s, Mintus, owner. His father s owner was named Captain Henry Northup, which is how Solomon and his father received their last name. While Northup was a child, he had acquired some education, but mainly worked on his family s farm. In 1828, Solomon married Anne Hampton. In 1834, he and his wife moved to Saratoga Springs, New York. They later had three children, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Alonzo. While in upstate New York, Solomon Northup received the reputation of a talented fiddler. However, William Prince Ford had to give Solomon back to the slave market due to finances. Northup s second owner was John M. Tibaut who was very brutal to Solomon. Northup was later rescued by Ford s overseer, Andrew Chafin. He was then sent to Edwin Epps and was a slave under him for the next ten years. His owner, Edwin Epps, put Solomon in charge over the rest of the slaves. Solomon tried many times to escape, but was never successful. Finally, in June of 1852, he was able to send letters to his friends and family back home in New York. In these letters, he told them where he was and all that had happened to him. In November of 1852, there was a widespread search in order to find Solomon. Solomon was found in the same year. On January 4, 1853, Solomon legally obtained total freedom. He was then reunited with his family and friends. In 1853, Solomon wrote a memoir called Twelve Years a Slave. He could not have done this without the help of his friend, David Wilson. In the year of 1857, Solomon disappeared from the public eye. After he disappeared, he then began to help Harriet Tubman with the Underground Railroad. No one is quite sure how, when, or where Solomon died, On top of not knowing how, when, or where he died, no one quite knows where Solomon was buried either. • 4. Clicktivism Book Report How Clicktivism Killed the Activist Since it s conception, the resounding sentiment at the heart of any activist movement has been the desire to have one s voice heard. The common ambition of activists of every kind has always been to represent the needs and injustices of the marginalized communities in question, and in doing so, to bring about change. Margaret Mead, a cultural anthropologist, and an outspoken feminist once said, never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it s the only thing that ever has. However, in recent years, activism has begun to take on a very different form. This once small group of thoughtful and committed citizens dedicated to justice have multiplied exponentially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of the incentive to become an activist is to be a part of a movement; an integral cog in the changing of history. One indisputable benefit of social media is its ability to effectively inform millions of people at once; this is infinitely powerful. The interactive format of social networking invites individuals to educate themselves on an issue and then to contribute to it, all in under ten minutes. Despite its efficiency, the detriment of this system is that it perpetuates the idea that the signing of a change.org petition is all it takes to make a difference. Grassroots activism and petitioning, while absolutely fundamental parts of the pursuit of social justice are often only the inciting steps in the lengthy and usually complicated process of creating lasting change. In 2014, in the wake of the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice, to name just a few, an international movement protesting police brutality began with the hashtag #blacklivesmatter. The issue of racially induced police brutality became a relevant topic of debate in the presidential election that followed, and protests took place worldwide. This movement is winning a major battle in the war against racism and much of this success was owed to its sensational presence on social media. The Black Lives Matter movement is an example of social networking being an invaluable tool in spreading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Socrates Vs Socrates Socrates and Aristotle would think that philosophy was for the greater good and expanding the minds of those around them. Socrates in particular would regard philosophy as conversational and weeding out those who know and those who do not. Aristotle would use philosophy to try to reach the conclusion on what happiness is. These great thinkers believed absolute contemplation was the greatest pleasure human beings could reach, so for them philosophywas reaching a type of Nirvana. Sadly, we know of Socrates fate and with him trying to change Athens for the better it backfires on him. But, Socrates leaves those who attended his trial his with some final words that speak to who he is and how he felt about what he was doing regarding his philosophy. If, I say, now, when, as I conceive and imagine, God orders me to fulfil the philosopher s mission of searching into myself and other men, I were to desert my post through fear of death, or any other fear; that would indeed be strange, and I might justly be arraigned in court for denying the existence of the gods, if I disobeyed the oracle because I was afraid of death: then I should be fancying that I was wise when I was not wise. For this fear of death is indeed the pretence of wisdom, and not real wisdom, being the appearance of knowing the unknown; since no one knows whether death, which they in their fear apprehend to be the greatest evil, may not be the greatest good (Apology, Plato). As I stated in my introduction Socrates and Aristotle believed that contemplative thought was the highest form of human life. That this concept of thinking and attempting to answer life s hardest questions was the best thing to occur to any human being. When looking at their point of view of what is the highest kind of pleasure a human can achieve it begs the question if that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Establishment Of The European Union ( Eu ) How significant has been the development of the EU s policies concerning the protection of the natural environmental and climate change? What problems have confronted policy makers in framing and delivering such policies? Introduction The establishment of the European Union (EU) enabled them to handle transnational activities among the member states, including environmental policy. Its significance situates within its powers which can manage any other organisations among the member states by virtue of the laws within the European Union (Baker, 1996, p.215). As a result, it is broadly perceived that there is an increasing impact from the EU on policy making in the member states. This tendency is particularly recognised in environmental policy makings, because national standards in law needed to be questioned and harmonised and policy developments at the European level influences the national aims, content and settings of environmental policy within the member states (Heinelt et al., 2001). The area of environmental policy was not established until the first Environmental Action Programme in 1973 as the major aim for the European Economic Community s agenda was to build a common institutional framework for mostly economic issues (Jorgensen, 2012). In the next decades, the development of the area of environmental policy making was accelerated by the the Single European Act and by the support from the public who tends to have an increasing concern towards environmental ... Antifeminist and Feminism within The Scarlet Letter Antifeminist and Feminism within The Scarlet Letter In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Hester Prynne is accused and convicted of adultery. During the puritan era women in this society had specific obligations and rights they had to maintain. By Hester having an affair and acting unladylike the community disapproved of her actions causing everyone to isolate her in her town. Due to Hester Prynne s Isolation and the harsh judgment she received from everyone in her town, she goes through having to deal with Antifeminism acts towards her. Those who lived in the puritan era were not aware that their behavior and actions towards Hester and those who were associated with her were considered sexist. Throughout the story we see Hester deal with criticism and judgment from the community. By her paving her own way and doing what she thinks is best for her self and not sticking to the Status quo, she appeared to be fearless and Bold to those in the puritan era. Because of the actions Hester Prynne s displayed she would be considered a modern day feminist, one who believes that women and men should have equal rights. In The Scarlet Letter Hester going against what society think is acceptable for a women living during the puritan era shows how she fits the modern expectations of feminism. However, there are hundreds and thousands of other inherited diseases that effect millions of people each year but are over looked or underrepresented for various reasons. An example of one of these disease is Cystic Fibrosis(CF). There is not much popularity associated with Cystic Fibrosis because there s limited research on the topic. However, according to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, C.F. is a genetic disease that is essentially a severe cold that never goes away. Tirouvanziam, neutrophils might not be the tight and ridged leukocytes they were previous thought to be, rather they have a lot of elasticity when it comes to how they unfold in the tissues in the body (Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1). This neutrophil elasticity creates a perfect setting for diseased microenvironments to grow in the body which is often associated with lung disease and C.F. (Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1). In C.F. patient s neutrophils are often over worked and there is neutrophil activity in the body s extracellular fluid which shows the relationship between the relationship of C.F. patients and this discovery of neutrophil activity (Margaroli and Tirouvanziam 1). Social Learning Theory Case Study Social learning: The social learning theory is one the most significant theories that came about in the 1960s by Albert Bandura as it made it clear as to how individuals acquire and develop new behaviors through modeling others behaviors. As indicated by (Chavis, 2012), social learning theory is of great of importance due to its sheer influence on human development, and it s established in many of the fundamental concepts of traditional learning. The theory focuses on the social context in which learning takes place, and it suggests that people learn from each other (Chavis, 2012). Therefore, social learning theory helps us explain why individuals behave in a certain way. Bandura didn t much agree with what behaviorists suggested about how human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Operant conditioning argues that animals and humans alike tend to behave in social context based on the outcomes of their behaviors (Kretchmar, 2015). Negative outcome punishment decreases the chance of individuals to behave in a certain way, while positive outcome reinforcement increases the probability for individuals to show a particular behavior (Kretchmar, 2015). Bandura thought operant conditioning was an insufficient theory for explaining observational learning (Kretchmar, 2015). According to (Kretchmar, 2015), Bandura wasn t in agreement with behaviorists who considered reinforcement as a necessary component of learning, and he demonstrated that behavior and learning are different from each other. Bandura suggested that people tend to imitate whatever they happen to watch even if they are not reinforced for that behavior (Kretchmar, 2015). This simply happens when they see that other people get reinforced for their exhibited behavior, subsequently this works as an incentive for them to reproduce this behavior (Kretchmar, 2015). In a similar fashion, in The Breast Giver, Jashoda ends up giving her life away in order to serve as a mother to many people. Moreover, the most obvious dharma that has appeared in the story is the king that has an obligation to protect his kingdom and all living things in it. This fact contributes to the conflict of the story because the hawk is also forced to defend his kingdom, being his family by supplying it with food. Because of the king s brave actions, the king and the hawk both fulfill their destiny. Sibi s story reflects the idea that there is no difference between good, bad, hero or villain. Both Sibi and the Hawk have a duty to protect their own environments and the living things around them. One of the Hawks duties being having to feed his own makes killing the dove a normal part of living. Even though Sibi internally disagrees because the dove came from his kingdom he understands that the hawk has to fulfill his destiny. By accepting this idea one can come to the realization that neither one of the characters is wrong or evil. On the other hand, both of the characters could be viewed as heroes since they act on their own dharma and positions in life. Nonetheless, considering The Breast Giver, the Indian caste system seems to be extremely important to the characters all throughout the story. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with one of my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. I had told him in the past that I was not comfortable with him being out with a girl late at night, but never fully elaborated on it. Realizing that he had done something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and kept his outing from me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no boundaries to break. Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your significant other about, but he sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your significant other. He saw it as him doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was nowhere near cheating. Our disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and expectations for each other. In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let me know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in contact with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always comfortable with the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. World hunger is a problem that has existed for much of our known history; it has faded away from central concerns because it is barely brought up in everyday conversations. World hunger has many aggravating factors and principal causes, such as insufficient economic systems, misinformation, climate changes, etc. But the main debilitating factor is povertyas poverty always has led to people going without regular meals because they cannot afford to eat. There are vast quantities of people in third world nations and developing countries that are so impoverished that are in desperate need for food. The heterotrophs Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae have so far been ideal. However, these organisms will have to be transformed to full autotrophs using sophisticated and complex engineering methods. The use of mixotrophy where autotrophs systems are incorporated into heterotrophs seems to give better outcomes. The case of The Queen against William Lorando Jones proved the churches fear of Blasphemy among the common people due to its potential to orientate the lesser educated community against the state. • 35. Negative Affects Of Helicopter Parents Negative Affects of Helicopter Parents in Youth Sport Throughout my whole life all I could really remember is playing sports and always playing them very competitively, and having my parents very involved. There was a lot of pressure put on me from a young age, all the way up into even now playing college football. I was raised with helicopter parents rather than the laid back parents. The best moments I can remember is just throwing the football around and playing small games in the neighborhood, no pressure just simply playing because I want to. Unnecessary pressure on sport from parents and what style of parentingis something I have put a lot of time and effort into studying. Putting to much pressure on your kids in sport could lead to; physiological affects, bad relationship with the parents, eating disorders, burnout of sports all together, kid not reaching his/her full potential, being a helicopter parentleads to children being afraid to voice their opinion, or afraid to fail, or even act as who they are and not what there parents want them to be. While there is know perfect way to be a parent while your child is playing youth sports, the majority of parents in my generation are putting to much pressure on their children and being helicopter parents, which could lead to many negative consequences. There are many interpretations of what a helicopter parentis, one of my favorites comes from authors Foster W. Cline and Jim Fay from their book Parenting With ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Imagery is mostly used in an artistic sense by most authors, but in Krakauer s book, he finds a way to include logical appeals in his imagery while also satisfying the audience. Foreshadowing is used in a similar way, and the audience is satisfied through well written comments and concluding paragraphs. A popularised explanation of memory involves a tiered or levelled approach, ranging from a holistic to a reductionist description (Bilkey, 2016). The Social and cultural level of memory refers to information stored in museums, libraries and oral history. Individual memoryis another level of description, and is specific to the person; what they did that day, or ate for example. While you might not have an irrational fear like those who suffer with the condition, you likely don t care much for the small, eight legged arachnids. That makes you normal. Thankfully, though, in South Carolina there are very few spiders that can do you any actual harm. They are the most terrifying spiders found in the Carolinas: The Black Widow: You are probably familiar with the black widow s appearance. It has an almost glossy sheen to its body and has an hourglass shaped red mark on the underside of its abdomen. The made widow spider is smaller than the female version and rarely bite. The more aggressive females bite more often but still will usually bite only in defense. The most common reason for them to attack is if they are guarding eggs or laying eggs. The female black widow prefers to spin her silken web in a protected space, such as under decks, house steps or stones. They are rarely found inside of houses. The black widow bite produces sharp pain that typically lasts for hours, resulting in localized muscle cramps. The pain can become severe and spread to other parts of the body and be accompanies by tremors and weakness. Cold clammy skin, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cultural expansion of such artists like Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton took America by storm. Jazz music was popular amongst both the upper and lower social classes. It is an ingredient of a culture that allows the culture to survive through decades and centuries at a time. But what if the medicine that we know as helpful is actually harmful? When a child cuts their knee the first thing an adult would do is check the scrape and then assess the damage. After assessing the damage, the adult would normally plan a course of treatment to ensure the child would not lose a limb in the near future. After treating the child with a mixture of antibacterial wipes, bandages and ice cream, what if the child is not better, but actually worse? That is what happens when you compare the medical practices of the Hmong to the medical practices of the Americans, both cultures believe that the others will cause more damage than good in respect to healingthe souland body. The main theme is the development and transformation of Bilbo Baggins into a hero and an outgoing person. I chose this theme because at the beginning of the story, Bilbo is a person that only worries about himself and only focuses on the comforts in life; and is very introverted. Towards the ending of the story, Bilbo transforms into a hero due to the situations he encounters. The setting of the story occurs in a fictional place called Middle Earth. We don t know the year the story takes place in. Consisting in northern Middle Earth is the Shire, the lush pasture in which hobbits reside, along with the western lands. The Misty Mountains run directly through northern Middle Earth from north to south. Beyond the Misty Mountains to the east lies the dreaded forest of Mirkwood, which is of immense size. Discipline is not easy, in fact, it is hard, but the results are what we discipline ourselves for. Celebration of Discipline was a very eye opening and insightful book in many aspects. Foster, the author, describes spiritual discipline as an inward and outward reality. Meaning, the inner and outward attitude of the discipline. The bible uses spiritual discipline to describe fasting, prayer, worship, and even celebration. When Jesusspoke of spiritual discipline, he hardly gives instruction of how to discipline ourselves spiritually. This book book gives more of an outline/guidance to types of disciplines that could help you in your spiritual journey. There are three types of disciplines discussed in this book, along with many sub categories within each type. All these groups are used to help one form a more well rounded spiritual life. The types are inward, outward, and corporate discipline. Inward discipline is a type of discipline that focuses on your inner self/spiritual life. This involves things like praying, meditation, fasting, and studying. Outward disciple is more of what you can do as an individual to discipline yourself spiritually, such as simplicity, solitude, submission, and service. These are still self centered but more focused on the outside actions rather than the inside actions. Finally, we have the corporate discipline. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Analysis Of The Book The Hobbit Essay Novel Paper: The Hobbit When you think of a hero, is the first character to pop in your head a little hobbit named Bilbo Baggins? In most cases, people think of Superman or Hercules, but in The Hobbit, an unexpected hero emerges and changes the name for all heroes to come. The Hobbit is a novel about Bilbo Bagginsand his journey, with thirteen dwarves and a wizard, seeking the treasure stolen by the dragon, Smaug. While on this unexpected journey, Bilbo and his companions overcome many obstacles to eventually get to the treasure and retrieve it. Throughout the story, Bilbo develops into a courageous man, who indeed, is a hero. Richard Tyre wrote an article, You Can t Teach Tolkien, and he explains his theory in which he connects multiple story s plot with six elements. The Hobbit, is assuredly a prime example of Tyre s theory because it follows all six steps throughout the story simultaneously. The six elements are; (1) those who hunt for treasure, (2) must go alone, (3) at night, (4) and when they find it, (5) they must leave some of their blood behind, (6) and the treasure is never what they expected (Tyre 19). These elements are steps in which a character must take to emerge into a hero in the end. Bilbo Baggins is the hero in The Hobbit, but he doesn t start off as the hero. He has always had heroic traits but throughout the novel, he pursues those six steps and in the resolution, he is transformed into an actual hero. The first element in Tyre s theory is (1) ... When looking at my current work and self reflecting I quickly recognized that my writing was sloppy and liberal. Why are my writings producing these kind of results? Because I never learned a writing process, how would I start forming my own? I figured the best way to start is to learn from others. In order to become a good writer I would have to learn the jargon that is literature. For example after reading Orlean Anderson s journal I chose Bob Ingalls to be sort of my mentor in my middle draft. Like Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars, he would mentor this Luke Skywalker in the ways of proper writing. He brought up many points that really interested me. With his advice I will form my own writing process by imitating style, reading and building upon an author s ideas. I should be getting my ideas from authors and writers who know what they re doing. With this in mind, I can shed the High School English approach of write down what we want you to write down, not write down what is on your mind .
