Essay on Political Correctness Has Gone Too Far
Political Correctness has Gone Too Far
The Politically Correct movement s purpose is to bring historically condescending terms, offensive
music and art, and controversial educational content to an end and replace them with more positive
and less offending references. Offensive and demoralizing efforts are wrong, but the censorship and
deletion of words and phrases that do not contain the intention to demoralize are taking political
correctness too far. Politically correct (or PC ) antics have created a social decline that is growing
worse with each generation, specifically regarding areas of art, education, language, and our right to
freedom of speech; the degradation they have brought to the American psyche has even led to ... Show

The word snowman is not offensive by any means. It was not created with an intension to offend,
demean, or label any group. But the new term for snowman is snowperson. Frosty the Snowman, the
children s tale that familiarized America with the term snowman, was originally created as a
Christmas song. ( Frosty the Snowman was a Tin Pan Alley novelty created by Jack Nelson and Steve
Rollins in 1950. Wikipedia online Encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowman ) . It was not a
story of a snow woman. It was a story of a snowman. The name snowperson suggests that it is unisex,
and to consider Frosty as unisex would numb the creative aspects of our holiday song and children s
stories of Frosty the Snowman. This is an overly sensitive effort to stop a word that has no offensive
connotation and kill its creative and historical meaning.
However, many groups claim that political correctness in society is justified in its efforts to sanitize
offensive material created though years of oppressing minorities. What was originally a noble idea, to
remove blatant words of offensive meaning, has turned into an over the top effort to rid any words of
possible controversy. We are regulating our ways of plain speaking, freedom of choice, and freedom
of speech. Laws of restrictions on slander and public decency should be decided on the common law
methodology and not by the interests of the liberal mob . If plain speaking is not allowed, clear

After studying this chapter, the student will be able to:
 Explain the concept of illumination in computer graphics.
 Explain Diffuse and specular reflections.
 Explain refraction of light.
 Explain need of halftoning.
 Explain various methods of halftoning the images.
 Explain dithering techniques.
11.1. Introduction
We can obtain realistic views of a scene by creating perspective projections of objects and by using
natural lighting effects to the visible areas. An illumination model which is also called a lighting
model or shading model is used to measure the intensity of light on the surface of an object. There is a
surface rendering algorithm that uses the intensity calculations from an illumination model to find out

A very rough surface produces primarily diffuse reflections, so that the surface looks equally dazzling
from all viewing directions. Figure 11.4. depicts diffuse light scattering from a surface. The color of
an object is the color of the diffuse reflection of the light incident on it. A red object illuminated by a
light source, for example, reflects the red component of the white light and completely absorbs all the
other components of light. If the red object is viewed under a blue light, it looks black because the
entire incident light is absorbed. Along with diffuse reflection, light sources can also create highlights,
or bright spots, called specular reflection. The highlighting effect is more pronounced on shiny
surfaces than on dull surfaces. Specular reflection is shown in figure

The Blue Green Anesthesia Mask Essay
As I m wheeled through the silver doors into the sterile white operating room, I begin to panic. This is
my first surgery, and I feel as if I am in a living nightmare. Before I can even think about it, the nurses
guide me onto the skinny white operating room bed. A few seconds later, the blue green anesthesia
mask is put on my face, and I feel like I am going underwater with my eyes closed. Then everything
around me goes completely black. I was diagnosed with a rare, non agressive type of skin cancer on
my scalp in 2011. Soon after diagnosis, I underwent an MRI to see exactly how big the cancer was.
Fortunately, it was only the size of a pencil eraser. After seeing countless doctors, we (my parents and
I) finally decided to see a surgeon specializing in cancer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in
downtown Chicago. We met with the cancer surgeon (Dr. Wayne), and he agreed to remove the cancer.
We also saw a plastic surgeon (Dr. Kim) the same day to discuss reconstruction options so that my
scalp would look as normal as possible after the surgery. My surgery is scheduled for the morning of
February 8, 2012 at 7 AM; however, we need to arrive at the hospital at 5:30 to start the preparation
process. As we walk through the Outpatient Surgery unit doors, I immediately notice the amount of
chaos surrounding the unit. You wouldn t know that it was only 5:30 AM with all the noise! There are
people making phone calls, crying babies, and others who were trying to escape it all by

The Cell Body
1 The Prototypical Neuron The neuron, also known as the nerve cell, is distinguished by several
components: the soma, the axon, and the dendrites. The soma, or more commonly known as the cell
body, is the semi spherical central part of the neuron. In a typical neuron, it is about 20 um in diameter
and contains the same organelles that are found in all animal cells; a nucleolus, rough endoplasmic
reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and mitochondria. With all of its inner
components encased within the neuronal membrane. The neuronal membrane is an average of 5 nm
thick, and greatly studded with various proteins; the function of a neuron is greatly regulated by the
structure and components (proteins) of its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The axon begins by extending away from the soma, with the base region being known as the axon
hillock. The axon may then extend to various lengths (depending on the specific tissue/function that
cell pertains to) ranging from less than a millimeter to over a meter; as well as splitting into numerous
axon collaterals (axons that branch away from the original axon). As for the thickness of the axon, it
ranges from less than a millimeter to 25 mm in diameter (in humans) with the speed of electrical
impulses (nerve impulse) directly proportional to the thickness of the axon. At the end of the axon, is
the axon terminal or terminal bouton: which can be described as a swollen disk or button, where the
axon comes into contact with another neuron, or another cell (e.g. muscle cell) by which information
may be passed onto. This interface point is known as a synapse with the end of the axon known as the
presynaptic terminal; in this structure there are multiple synaptic vesicles (that average 50 nm in
diameter) with various chemical signals (neurotransmitters) used for synaptic transmission (the
process of information transfer). The membrane surrounding the synapse is heavily dense with
proteins and ion channels, in order to receive and traffic the

The Decision Of Breastfeed For Mothers
The decision to breastfeed for mothers is complex and multifactorial (Pairman et al., 2015, p 803) and
will be influenced by social norms, self efficacy, knowledge and both social and professional support
(Rollins et al., 2016). Support can be delivered by various methods and is based on interventions that
diminish the complexities and challenges faced by breastfeeding mothers (Renfrew et al., 2012).
Although breastfeeding is partly instinctive behaviour, it still needs to be learned and mothers need
support, encouragement and adequate management to make breastfeeding a success (Stables Rankin,
2010). This essay will aim to highlight the benefits and advantages of breastfeeding for both mother
and child, and examine the support that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Breastmilk provides a number of health advantages beginning at birth and continuing throughout a
child s life (Kainonen et al., 2012; Pairman et al., 2015; Stables Rankin, 2010). The longer a mother
breastfeeds, the more likely her child will get the health benefits of breastfeeding (Rollins et al., 2016;
Stables Rankin, 2010).
The immediate health, wellbeing and survival of babies is affected by breastfeeding and thus impacts
our public health system (Pairman et al., 2015). Risk of morbidity and mortality due to infectious
disease is lower among exclusively breastfed babies compared with partially breastfed babies (Kramer
Kakuman, 2012). If breastfed, about half of all diarrhoea episodes and a third of respiratory infections
would be avoided (Victora et al., 2016) thus protecting against hospital admissions (Victora et al.,
2016; UNICEF, 2005). Breast milk is also associated with a reduction in asthma (Oddy, 2013; Victora
et al., 2016), protection against otitis media (Victora et al., 2016), and childhood lymphomas (Guise et
al., 2005). Due to the presence of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in breastmilk, studies have
gathered that breastfeeding can also improve brain development, growth and levels of intelligence
quotient (Victora et al., 2016; Huffman et al., 2011). Additionally, the prevalence of obesity

Mycelial Pathogen
Step 1: Written observation of the symptoms of the fruit and signs of the pathogen.
Symptoms and signs
The fruit that is examined in this study is a strawberry. The infected strawberry in displayed in figure
1, appears to be fully covered in mycelial growth. Mycelial consists of white filaments also known as
hyphae (mould), which seems to be growing on the strawberry. Within the branched hyphae there are
multiple black spores that surround the fruit. Although the fruit appears to be shriveled, there appears
to be an access amount of liquid which remains on the parafilm and the inner components of the fruit
are moist and soft. The multiple stages of mycelial that are growing on the fruit in figure 1,

density of hyphae around the mid region.
Do the Pure Culture Symptoms Observations Match? At the beginning of the experiment, the samples
had visible hyphae and black fruiting bodies, which appear to be visible in the re infected fruit
samples. Both the samples have distinct zones of mycelial growth and colonization. In the fruiting and
productive zones both samples appear to have increased hyphae density. When samples are analyzed
in the microscope they both have evident clusters of sporangia and conidia. When comparing the
infect fruit samples it is clear that both the original and re infected samples are quite similar results
including signs and symptoms.

Character Growth in Conrad s Heart of Darkness Essay...
Character Growth in Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness explores the intellectual, emotional and moral growth of characters
throughout the novella. This character growth has been a recurring theme in literature, with the poet
William Blake, among many others, exploring theories of the movement between innocence to
experience. Although Conrad does not strictly address character growth in this manner, characters that
do and do not undergo psychological growth are portrayed quite differently. Those who undergo these
psychological changes are portrayed favorably, that is Marlow, the frame narrator, and Kurtz. These
characters throughout the novel undergo significant change, for some it is gradual ... Show more

At the start of the novella, the reader is faced with the frame narrator s thoughts, feelings and opinions,
which in relation to colonialism are rather optimistic and naïve to the reality Marlow later reveals. The
setting is the river Thames, London, where the Nellies narrator says the Thames stretched before us
like the beginning of an interminable waterway , going on to say the biggest, and greatest town on
earth , and expressing colonialism as the dreams of men, the seed of commonwealths . His opinions
represent hope, possibility and optimism. This initial description then can be juxtaposed to the end of
the novel, after hearing Marlow tale, when he says, the Thames seemed to lead into the heart of an
immense darkness .
It can be seen as evidenced above that the narrator undergoes a significant growth, from one extreme
polarization to another, however throughout the text there are various small changes that can be
inferred which lead to the eventual change (seen at the end of the novel) of the frame narrator. As
expressed by Hena Maes Jelinek He is the only one who takes part imaginatively in Marlow s tale and
is changed by it . His active participation in the story alludes that he is slowly undergoing a significant
change, he says I listened, I listened on the watch for the sentence, for the word, that would give me
the clue to the faint uneasiness inspired by this narrative . The

Essay On Death Of Romeo And Juliet
The tragic play Romeo and Juliet was written by William Shakespeare during the late 1500 s. The play
was originally born in England and finally published in 1597. The tragic play takes place in the
beautiful Italian cities of Verona and Mantua. Two high born families, the Capulets and Montagues,
and entangled in a spiteful feud. This resentful feud will result in the tragic death of two young lovers
Romeo and Juliet. Romeo who is from the Montague family and Juliet who is from the Capulet family
will fall in love with each other, and keep their love a secret. The aggrieved family feud will be the
one to blame for the early death of Romeo and Juliet. The hatred the two families had for one another
is what caused the unfortunate death of Romeo and Juliet. To hate and to hold onto anger is like
drinking poison and expecting the other person to suffer. The hate the two families had for each other
was toxic. Hatred is something that can destroy so much, and the hatred between the rivaling families
is what executed Romeo and Juliet. Forcing Romeo and Juliet to keep their love in the dark, pushed
the young lovers over the edge. That hatred was portrayed when Tybalt, a Capulet, said What. Drawn
and talk of peace? I hate the word as i hate hell. All Montagues. And thee . This statement allows the
readers to fully understand that there is no room for peace ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Friar Lawrence was a man of god who accepted the love between Romeo and Juliet. Although he

their own deaths because they were forced into a dark corner by their families. If their families had

Textual Analysis Of Girl
Girl Shifts Your Perspective in More Ways Than One
Girl provides a brief glimpse into the daily life of a homeless woman.
Almost every film you ll ever watch in your life will be shot with a similar aspect ratio, with the frame
being around twice as long as it is tall. With minor variances due to wide screen or cinemascope or a
particularly bold director, the vast majority of films will use nearly the same aspect ratio, and after
seeing that setup in film after film year after year, it just feels comfortable now. Our televisions are set
designed for this aspect ratio. Out computer monitors. Our portable gaming devices screens. Even our
phones are designed with this ratio in mind.. Which is what makes the fact that Megan K. Fox s Girl
employs the exact opposite aspect ratio, one where the frame is twice as tall as it is wide, impossible

feeling that no matter how far into the film the viewer is, or whatever setting the Girl is placed into,
she is ultimately in the same spot. The choice to use such a unique aspect ratio is incredibly bold, but

Oozing Hegemonic Masculinity in the Super Bowl Commercials
Many of us watch the Super Bowl to check out what we expect to be the most innovative and
entertaining commercials of the year. Given the grand stage on which these commercials air, it is
important that we analyze them in their proper context. Remember, this is a sporting event, one in
which only men are allowed to participate (as athletes/coaches), where violent collisions are
celebrated, and where most of the audience is male. Considering these gendered parameters, we
should not be surprised that many of the 2012 Super Bowl commercials ooze hegemonic masculinity.
In this post David Mayeda explores how a masculinity can be used to opress men and women alike.
Back in 1987, Raewyn Connell coined the term hegemonic masculinity in a seminal text, Gender
Power. Hegemonic masculinity refers to the dominant form of masculinity that exists within a
particular culture. Relative to this ever changing, idealized form of masculinity are different
subordinated masculinities those within a culture that do not live up to the so called masculine gold
standard. Put simply, there are real men and then there are all other men.
In watching the 2012 Super Bowl commercials, we can see versions of hegemonic masculinity
demonstrated. Perhaps the most vivid version was seen in H M s Super Bowl ad, utilizing soccer
(futbol) star, David Beckham:
Tattooed, rugged, athletic, showcasing a lean musculature and menacing glare, Beckham embodies a
hegemonic masculinity that would surely resonate

Adoption Is A Better Choice
When women are faced with an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy, there are many options for them.
Most of their options are not straight forward or easy to see. Some mothers decide to keep their child
while others feel that adoption or abortion is the better choice for both themselves and the unborn
child. In the United States, nearly one in four pregnancies end in abortion. Adoption is a better choice
because it is just the beginning for a life.
According to the blog, Our Bodies Ourselves, the first recorded abortion in the Untied States was in
the 1800s. Up until this time, abortion was legally practiced throughout the nation. The government, at

In 1973, the Roe v. Wade case would change abortion laws in the United States. According to CNN,
this case was between Norma McCorrey, who wanted the abortion and Henry Wade, the district

In a seven to two decision, the court decided that the women s right to have an abortion fell under the

Treatment Of Women In The Gospels Essay
In the beginning, women s status and freedoms were severely limited. Many people may believe that
they had started off with just as many obligations as men, but that is not the case at all. Actually, it is
the complete opposite, women had nothing when it came to the early days of the Gospel. That is until
Jesus came around and changed things. Here we will discuss three very important details of women in
the Gospels. We will discuss women in ancient Israel around the time of Jesus and how they were
expected to act, then we will move on to Jesus radical treatment of women and how Jesus was

religious groups consisted of the Essenes, Pharisees and Sadducees. There are many examples on the

at the time was to not allow women to be taught. In Luke 10:38 42, he taught Mary, sister of Martha.
Jesus also used terminology which treated women as equal to men. For example, in Luke 13:16 it
describes how Jesus cured a women from a Satanic Spirit. He called her a daughter of Abraham,
therefore implying that she had equal status with sons of Abraham. Another example of Jesus use of
terminology can be described in Luke 7:35 to 8:50 where it is described how Jesus forgave a woman s
sins. He refers to women and men as children of

1939 Dbq Adolf Hitler
In 1939 the world plunged into a state of depression and war, each country turning on one another.
Diplomatic factors, Hitler s thirst for power, and the political and financial stand point are arrows that
point directly to a future of destruction and war, all with the failure of appeasement. Collective
security worked as a buffer between conflicts, and was the best response toward aggression. The
weakening League of Nations failed to keep collective security intact from any wars. Hitler s
leadership threatened the peace in Europe which caused Germany to stir up war around the world. The
economic and political stand points were in danger and on the verge of collapsing.

Military Strengths
Mumbles of military cadence and grumbles of frustration were all that could be heard as the formation
entered its fourth mile of the tedious run. Feet throbbed, shins burned, knees felt swollen from the
rhythmic beating they were being subjected to. The less talented runners struggled to stay with the
group, the more capable ones yearned to be released from the slow moving herd. Both had one thing
in common; they could not wait for this run to be over. Most members of the military can relate
intimately to the scenario previously described. What most of them may not now, however, is that
there is a better way for them to develop their running skills and overall fitness level without having to

A military.com article by Stew Smith details, We know that hard heel strikes are a result of over
striding and can lead to many foot, knee, and shin injuries. Also the heel strike in front of the body can
limit your momentum and slow you down significantly. (Smith) The current military mindset places
much more emphasis on the do and not nearly enough on the how . Most adults have adopted poor
running form over years of drawing upon techniques that they ve heard somewhere, not knowing the
validity of the information they are trusting. There is a tendency to overthink how to run which leads
to implementation of poor mechanics and form. In comparison, watching a young child run will
typically demonstrate the unaltered natural running form that the body was designed for.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult for an adult to unlearn bad habits. Instead, it is necessary to learn
new techniques and practice them until they become natural again. There are numerous training
classes and drills becoming readily available to service members to develop, or fix their running form.
Studies have already shown a reduction in the number of injuries being sustained from physical
training at several military installations. Many physical therapy programs have adopted the POSE
running technique and are incorporating it in the Army s Master Fitness Trainer course at installations
across the world in an effort to educate the community on proper form and injury prevention. The last
key to increased performance and longevity is routine stretching drills. Along with form drills,
stretching and flexibility drills also promote greater muscular recovery and development in addition to
increased injury prevention. Essentially, if the military is going to remain steadfast in its dedication to
conducting daily physical training, they

Holliday s Dreamgirls
The 1982 version of Dreamgirls showed a great deal of emotion, and power. The way the Holliday
performed definitely made the seen and atmosphere seem believe in my eyes. It was important for
Holliday to emphasis the emotion she was supposed to be feeling throughout the play, because of the
fact that it was a Broadway musical. In musicals, since there is generally no mics being used, the
performers have to project their voices to be heard. During musicals it is also acceptable to
overdramatize a scene to ensure that the emotions the character should be feeling is portrayed
accurately. I don t feel that Holliday s style would work on film, because of the fact that she over
performs so much. While it is fine to do this in stage plays, seeing this

Literary Analysis Of The Cathedral By Raymond Carver

Literary Analysis of the Cathedral by Raymond Carver
Carver is well known for his short stories and poetries. Among his works, Cathedral is considered one
of the best, favorite, and most optimistic and the most developed. Carver s story revolves around the
theme of seeing and looking. Most people believed they could not live without cathedrals which
brought them closer to their God. Similarly, people place so much importance to the physical eyesight
and tend to think they can hardly live without it. Robert, a blind man, is invited to the narrator s home
and the narrator is shown troubled by Roberts s disability. Later on, the narrator is amazed to see the
blind smoking despite having even thought of helping him with his drink earlier on (Carver 516 524).
The latter brought to attention that as much as natural looking is essential, more essential is the ability
to see or to visualize things. The writer explains that it might be tougher to be without eyesight;
however, it is possible to live without it and make the best of what else one has, more so the brain.
Visualizing brings out a better view of the significance of life and things surrounding us.
The cathedral is used symbolically to represent the gradual shift in Caver s sensibility. It symbolically
signals the movement towards hope from horror in ambiguity. Despair and equilibrium redemption
replace Emotional tumult. On the other side, Carver s story is

(Recombination Activating Gene 1). Cas9 mRNA was synthesized by in vitro transcription of
pST1374 N NLS flag linker Cas9 vector. The RNA mixture was injected into one cell embryos of
Macaca fascicularis.
c. The results were analyzed by 3 steps. First of all, specific regions of the genes were PCR amplified
and visualized on the gel. Secondy, T7EN1 cleavage assay were used to detect sgRNA:Cas9 mediated

effects in Macaca fascicularis. T7EN1 cleavage assay displayed the cleavage products of these two
genes in placenta, umbilical cord and ear punch tissues in founders and the genetic modifications were
confirmed by DNA sequencing of PCR products. Furthermore, no detectable off target effects were
found in baby monkeys. On the other hand, T7EN1 cleavage assay result of Nr0b1 gene was negative

The Relationship Of Child Abuse And Father Daughter
The relationship of child abuse and father daughter incest
Angelica Flores
Washington State University Abstract
Father daughter incest is defined as any sexual act with a family member that is blood related or
closely related. Father daughter incest is the most common type of incest; this is more common than
mother son incest. Research shows that women are more likely to be sexually abused by men because
men are said to be stronger than women. Men can easily abuse women so women feel like they have
no other choice but letting themselves go. Psychotherapy is a way of therapy to help women with
insidious backgrounds. This essay contains different findings researchers have found from different
incest victims. Incest is defined as sexual intercourse or any type of sexual act with a family member
or any person closely related to the child. Incest can also be defined as a relationship with a step
parent/step child even if they are not blood related. The topic of incest is a very controversial subject
and can be seen as a taboo in the society because depending on the cultures, different cultures have
different thoughts on incest. Although incest can be viewed in different ways, incest is still considered
sexual abuse, simply because a child cannot give consent until the age of 18. Incest affects the child
physically, emotionally, and physiologically. Signs of incest/sexual abuse include unexplained injuries,
changes in behavior, or inappropriate sexual behavior to other

The As A Self Regulating Social System
This paper will be a literature review that discusses the notion that, the board of directors (the
collective) as a self regulating social system. This will be achieved by a systematic review of a
collection of works into the area of corporate governance spanning the birth of the industrial
revolution to the modern day. The areas of emphasis will be a view to identifying the key concepts,
issues and laws created to better focus the actions of boards. In addition to identifying the locations for
each of these developments and how this has led to divergent practices across the globe. Following the
review of the literature the author of this paper will seek to discern the current direction and nature of

This separation of the owners and managers of the business is the central reason for the existence of
what is now referred to as corporate governance. As discussed by Smith (Smith, 1776),Berle (Berle,
1932) and Tricker (Tricker, 2012), this created two differing schools of though. The first is referred to
as agency theory, which proposes that those placed in charge of a firm will act in their best interests
and not those of the shareholders. This argument is countered by stewardship theory which takes the
view that those charged with being directors will seek to act in the best interests of the shareholders.
Clearly both of these cannot exist at the same time, it would fall to each individual director as to
which side of these two arguments or any possible point between the two extremes they would
gravitate towards. As there is clearly very differing possibilities that can occur based on the
personalities of those elected to boards, various forms of legislation have been introduced in most
countries with a view to providing guidance and in some cases mandating compliance to limit the
impacts of poor governance. Taking a geographical perspective to the evolution of corporate
governance and by extension, idea of the board of directors as a self regulating social system. There
has been three differing perspectives, the two tiered board, legislated compliance and the voluntary or
if not why not compliance. The reasons for this are

Essay on Fsa Photography During the Great Depression
I glance amusedly at the photo placed before me. The bright and smiling faces of my family stare back

let me join my friends at the pool. However, my mother had refused. Inconsolable, I spent most of the
day moping about sulkily. The time came for a group picture and so my grandmother arranged us all

Unemployment skyrocketed up to its peak of nearly twenty five percent of the population. Added to
this was the series of dust storms terrorizing the mid west. These storms destroyed most crops and left
farmers destitute and homeless. This resulted in a mass migration of mid western farmers moving west
to areas such as California to find work. These farmers became to be known derogatorily as Okies.
Newly elected President Roosevelt began immediately to put programs into affect, which would halt
the effects of the depression and aid those who were suffering. These programs became known as the
New Deal. The purpose of the New Deal was to provide jobs for the unemployed and offer relief to
the distressed. Programs such as the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) and the Works Progress
Administration (WPA) put millions of people to work building roads, dams, and other public works.
One of these government programs was called the Farm Security Administration (FSA). The FSA was
an agency intended to fight rural poverty during a period when the poor agricultural climate and
plunging national economy was causing many rural farmers to leave their farms and homes to find
work. The FSA also hired photographers as part of a public relations campaign. These photographers
documented the lives and conditions of many of these stricken peoples.
The purpose of these photographers was to provide visual evidence that there was

Leadership Competencies And Leadership Skills
The ability and strength of an individual to achieve goals by supervising processes, guiding initiatives
and employees is defined as Leadership skills. Valuable leadership skills include taking thoughtful
decisions, allocation of resources, and the ability to delegate, inspire and communicate effectively.
Other leadership traits include honesty, confidence, commitment and creativity. Leadership
competencies can be used to effectively select, develop and promote leaders in an organization .The
difference between Leadership Skill and leadership competency can explained as the required level of
efficiency to perform a task assigned is known as skill whereas the quality to accomplish the same is
called as competency. When creating leadership competencies certain factors are considered such as
business strategies and future trends. To drive the use of competencies in selecting and developing
leaders HR practitioners should use the business strategies. To effectively build a unique set of skills
for the organization s leaders, the firm will sustain competitive advantage. The role of a project
manager has always been my interest. The position which I have always desired is a role of project
manager. Leadership skills are utmost important for today s mangers as the Project is entirely
dependent on them , because without a good leader, a project is unlikely to be completed successfully.
These skills are

Essay about Self Discovery in Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and...
How does one go about discovering the veiled mysteries of oneself? First and foremost, what is the
self? The self is who we are as an individual. It is the ethics, beliefs, values, opinions, thoughts,
actions and everything that one does. Knowing oneself is also knowing what one desires out of life,
ones goals and aspirations. External appearances have very little to do with the self. Oryx and Crake is
a novel by Margaret Atwood that demonstrates how certain intriguing, distinctive characters develop
themselves. Her novel demonstrates how there is no simple way of discovering oneself, but rather a
combined method. Margaret Atwood s book Oryx and Crake demonstrates that both the constituted

The novel literally begins at the end, when there appears to be only one surviving human left, who

Snowman poetically observes the powerful smoldering sun, the daily storms, twisters, mutated

Essay about Willem de Kooning
Willem de Kooning is considered one of the best American painters to ever live. He is compared to
one of the Greek Sea Gods, Proteus, and is called a master of a liquid realm who is gifted with
prophecy (Kertess).De Kooning is a highly intellectual, analytical artist with the courage to reject all
assumptions and to take up an issue at its most difficult formation (Hess 16). One of de Kooning s
good friends was the poet, art critic, and MOMA Curator, Frank O Hara. O Hara considered de
Kooning one of the three or four greatest painters of the twentieth century. He idolized de Kooning
and was deeply influenced by de Kooning over their relationship. (Stevens 484) One of O Hara s great

O Hara used the lyricism, emotional effects, and metaphorical potentials of poetry to convey a
painting s contents, a painting s appearance and and array of some of the painting s potential effects
upon a viewer. O Hara s writings about visual art are simultaneously art objects and art criticism. They
are art objects themselves made of words responding to paintings. Because this activity criticism as
ekphrasis rather than a formalized description advocated by Greenberg, O Hara was able to draw on
the strengths of both poetic and prosaic expression to write hybrid pieces of critical text. Again, O
Hara s art writings, unlike those of formalist critics like Greenberg, are a hybrid of aesthetic and
critical modes of knowing (Shaw 179). Greenberg is wrong in his belief that ekphrastic poetry cannot
fully capture the essence of a painting. Lytle Shaw and Charles Bernstein, two critics who supported
ekphrastic poetry as a way to capture the essence of a painting, saw O Hara s art writing as a powerful
and necessary counter to the rigidity that descends from Clement Greenberg s belief in formal art
criticism (Bernstein). Bernstein adds that the significance of O Hara is his ability to avoid simple
descriptions of visual art in pursuit of the complexity found in the pieces they are addressing
(Bernstein). Shaw and Bernstein both argue that O Hara s poetry is a better way to capture visual art

Hannibal Lecter Villain
Hannibal Lecter was the most feared psychopath created by Thomas Harris. Prior to the release of The
Silence of The Lamb America thought he was another fictional character. After viewing the movie
they began to realize Hannibal Lecter was based off Doctor Alfredo Balli Travino. Travino was
convicted and sentenced to death for the manslaughter of his gay lover Rangel. The crime of passion
included Travino slicing his neck and draining his blood and methodically chopping Rangel s body
into pieces and shoving him into a box. Later he drove to a relative s farm where he and a farm hand
buried the box. Upon the discovery of the oddly marked grave, by another worker, the police were
informed. They went undercover to Travino s practice and arrested him. Immoral actions are not only
in the real world, they are also depicted into novels. From fairy tales to love stories there is always a

A Rational Review Of The Information Available From Social...
A rational review of the information available from social research on the subject of polygamy starts
with the study of polygamous relationships found in nature. In nature, polygamy is usually the result
of three factors: 1) the scarcity of the male species (polygyny); 2) the need for healthy partners to
propagate the species in societies where disease or lack of food is a concern; 3) the desire for a partner
of higher wealth and/or status. (Golden) In humans, hunter gatherer and tribal societies have typically
been polygamous for all three of these reasons but in our western culture these justifications are rarely
relevant. Regarding the first point, in most cultures in our world today (excepting the Chinese where
population control has skewed the balance), the population is evenly balanced between men and
women, especially in Western cultures. Regarding the need to mate with a healthier specimen, in
Western culture, sickness and disease strike the sexes more or less equally. The third factor, the desire
for a partner of higher wealth and/or status, is still relevant but the advantages of a polygamous
relationship to a wealthy or powerful partner do not necessarily outweigh a more satisfying
relationship to a less powerful partner in a monogamous relationship. It s a matter of choice.
How does rule of law view polygamy and how have they justified its elimination through the legal
process?

  • 2. Essay on Political Correctness Has Gone Too Far Political Correctness has Gone Too Far The Politically Correct movement s purpose is to bring historically condescending terms, offensive music and art, and controversial educational content to an end and replace them with more positive and less offending references. Offensive and demoralizing efforts are wrong, but the censorship and deletion of words and phrases that do not contain the intention to demoralize are taking political correctness too far. Politically correct (or PC ) antics have created a social decline that is growing worse with each generation, specifically regarding areas of art, education, language, and our right to freedom of speech; the degradation they have brought to the American psyche has even led to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word snowman is not offensive by any means. It was not created with an intension to offend, demean, or label any group. But the new term for snowman is snowperson. Frosty the Snowman, the children s tale that familiarized America with the term snowman, was originally created as a Christmas song. ( Frosty the Snowman was a Tin Pan Alley novelty created by Jack Nelson and Steve Rollins in 1950. Wikipedia online Encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowman ) . It was not a story of a snow woman. It was a story of a snowman. The name snowperson suggests that it is unisex, and to consider Frosty as unisex would numb the creative aspects of our holiday song and children s stories of Frosty the Snowman. This is an overly sensitive effort to stop a word that has no offensive connotation and kill its creative and historical meaning. However, many groups claim that political correctness in society is justified in its efforts to sanitize offensive material created though years of oppressing minorities. What was originally a noble idea, to remove blatant words of offensive meaning, has turned into an over the top effort to rid any words of possible controversy. We are regulating our ways of plain speaking, freedom of choice, and freedom of speech. Laws of restrictions on slander and public decency should be decided on the common law methodology and not by the interests of the liberal mob . An illumination model which is also called a lighting model or shading model is used to measure the intensity of light on the surface of an object. There is a surface rendering algorithm that uses the intensity calculations from an illumination model to find out the light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A very rough surface produces primarily diffuse reflections, so that the surface looks equally dazzling from all viewing directions. Figure 11.4. depicts diffuse light scattering from a surface. The color of an object is the color of the diffuse reflection of the light incident on it. A red object illuminated by a light source, for example, reflects the red component of the white light and completely absorbs all the other components of light. If the red object is viewed under a blue light, it looks black because the entire incident light is absorbed. Along with diffuse reflection, light sources can also create highlights, or bright spots, called specular reflection. The highlighting effect is more pronounced on shiny surfaces than on dull surfaces. Specular reflection is shown in figure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Blue Green Anesthesia Mask Essay As I m wheeled through the silver doors into the sterile white operating room, I begin to panic. This is my first surgery, and I feel as if I am in a living nightmare. Before I can even think about it, the nurses guide me onto the skinny white operating room bed. A few seconds later, the blue green anesthesia mask is put on my face, and I feel like I am going underwater with my eyes closed. Then everything around me goes completely black. I was diagnosed with a rare, non agressive type of skin cancer on my scalp in 2011. Soon after diagnosis, I underwent an MRI to see exactly how big the cancer was. Fortunately, it was only the size of a pencil eraser. After seeing countless doctors, we (my parents and I) finally decided to see a surgeon specializing in cancer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago. We met with the cancer surgeon (Dr. Wayne), and he agreed to remove the cancer. We also saw a plastic surgeon (Dr. Kim) the same day to discuss reconstruction options so that my scalp would look as normal as possible after the surgery. My surgery is scheduled for the morning of February 8, 2012 at 7 AM; however, we need to arrive at the hospital at 5:30 to start the preparation process. As we walk through the Outpatient Surgery unit doors, I immediately notice the amount of chaos surrounding the unit. You wouldn t know that it was only 5:30 AM with all the noise! There are people making phone calls, crying babies, and others who were trying to escape it all by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Cell Body 1 The Prototypical Neuron The neuron, also known as the nerve cell, is distinguished by several components: the soma, the axon, and the dendrites. The soma, or more commonly known as the cell body, is the semi spherical central part of the neuron. In a typical neuron, it is about 20 um in diameter and contains the same organelles that are found in all animal cells; a nucleolus, rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and mitochondria. With all of its inner components encased within the neuronal membrane. The neuronal membrane is an average of 5 nm thick, and greatly studded with various proteins; the function of a neuron is greatly regulated by the structure and components (proteins) of its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The axon begins by extending away from the soma, with the base region being known as the axon hillock. The axon may then extend to various lengths (depending on the specific tissue/function that cell pertains to) ranging from less than a millimeter to over a meter; as well as splitting into numerous axon collaterals (axons that branch away from the original axon). As for the thickness of the axon, it ranges from less than a millimeter to 25 mm in diameter (in humans) with the speed of electrical impulses (nerve impulse) directly proportional to the thickness of the axon. At the end of the axon, is the axon terminal or terminal bouton: which can be described as a swollen disk or button, where the axon comes into contact with another neuron, or another cell (e.g. muscle cell) by which information may be passed onto. This interface point is known as a synapse with the end of the axon known as the presynaptic terminal; in this structure there are multiple synaptic vesicles (that average 50 nm in diameter) with various chemical signals (neurotransmitters) used for synaptic transmission (the process of information transfer). • 7. The Decision Of Breastfeed For Mothers The decision to breastfeed for mothers is complex and multifactorial (Pairman et al., 2015, p 803) and will be influenced by social norms, self efficacy, knowledge and both social and professional support (Rollins et al., 2016). Support can be delivered by various methods and is based on interventions that diminish the complexities and challenges faced by breastfeeding mothers (Renfrew et al., 2012). Although breastfeeding is partly instinctive behaviour, it still needs to be learned and mothers need support, encouragement and adequate management to make breastfeeding a success (Stables Rankin, 2010). This essay will aim to highlight the benefits and advantages of breastfeeding for both mother and child, and examine the support that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Breastmilk provides a number of health advantages beginning at birth and continuing throughout a child s life (Kainonen et al., 2012; Pairman et al., 2015; Stables Rankin, 2010). The longer a mother breastfeeds, the more likely her child will get the health benefits of breastfeeding (Rollins et al., 2016; Stables Rankin, 2010). The immediate health, wellbeing and survival of babies is affected by breastfeeding and thus impacts our public health system (Pairman et al., 2015). Risk of morbidity and mortality due to infectious disease is lower among exclusively breastfed babies compared with partially breastfed babies (Kramer Kakuman, 2012). If breastfed, about half of all diarrhoea episodes and a third of respiratory infections would be avoided (Victora et al., 2016) thus protecting against hospital admissions (Victora et al., 2016; UNICEF, 2005). Breast milk is also associated with a reduction in asthma (Oddy, 2013; Victora et al., 2016), protection against otitis media (Victora et al., 2016), and childhood lymphomas (Guise et al., 2005). Character Growth in Conrad s Heart of Darkness Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness explores the intellectual, emotional and moral growth of characters throughout the novella. This character growth has been a recurring theme in literature, with the poet William Blake, among many others, exploring theories of the movement between innocence to experience. Although Conrad does not strictly address character growth in this manner, characters that do and do not undergo psychological growth are portrayed quite differently. Those who undergo these psychological changes are portrayed favorably, that is Marlow, the frame narrator, and Kurtz. At the start of the novella, the reader is faced with the frame narrator s thoughts, feelings and opinions, which in relation to colonialism are rather optimistic and naïve to the reality Marlow later reveals. His opinions represent hope, possibility and optimism. • 11. Essay On Death Of Romeo And Juliet The tragic play Romeo and Juliet was written by William Shakespeare during the late 1500 s. The play was originally born in England and finally published in 1597. The tragic play takes place in the beautiful Italian cities of Verona and Mantua. Two high born families, the Capulets and Montagues, and entangled in a spiteful feud. This resentful feud will result in the tragic death of two young lovers Romeo and Juliet. Romeo who is from the Montague family and Juliet who is from the Capulet family will fall in love with each other, and keep their love a secret. The aggrieved family feud will be the one to blame for the early death of Romeo and Juliet. The hatred the two families had for one another is what caused the unfortunate death of Romeo and Juliet. To hate and to hold onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to suffer. The hate the two families had for each other was toxic. Hatred is something that can destroy so much, and the hatred between the rivaling families is what executed Romeo and Juliet. Forcing Romeo and Juliet to keep their love in the dark, pushed the young lovers over the edge. That hatred was portrayed when Tybalt, a Capulet, said What. Drawn and talk of peace? Given the grand stage on which these commercials air, it is important that we analyze them in their proper context. Remember, this is a sporting event, one in which only men are allowed to participate (as athletes/coaches), where violent collisions are celebrated, and where most of the audience is male. Considering these gendered parameters, we should not be surprised that many of the 2012 Super Bowl commercials ooze hegemonic masculinity. In this post David Mayeda explores how a masculinity can be used to opress men and women alike. Back in 1987, Raewyn Connell coined the term hegemonic masculinity in a seminal text, Gender Power. Hegemonic masculinity refers to the dominant form of masculinity that exists within a particular culture. Relative to this ever changing, idealized form of masculinity are different subordinated masculinities those within a culture that do not live up to the so called masculine gold standard. There is a tendency to overthink how to run which leads to implementation of poor mechanics and form. Literary Analysis Of The Cathedral By Raymond Carver Olga Castillo Professor Zink ENC 1102 01084 October 25, 2017 Literary Analysis of the Cathedral by Raymond Carver Carver is well known for his short stories and poetries. Among his works, Cathedral is considered one of the best, favorite, and most optimistic and the most developed. Carver s story revolves around the theme of seeing and looking. Most people believed they could not live without cathedrals which brought them closer to their God. Similarly, people place so much importance to the physical eyesight and tend to think they can hardly live without it. Robert, a blind man, is invited to the narrator s home and the narrator is shown troubled by Roberts s disability. Later on, the narrator is amazed to see the blind smoking despite having even thought of helping him with his drink earlier on (Carver 516 524). The latter brought to attention that as much as natural looking is essential, more essential is the ability to see or to visualize things. The writer explains that it might be tougher to be without eyesight; however, it is possible to live without it and make the best of what else one has, more so the brain. Visualizing brings out a better view of the significance of life and things surrounding us. The cathedral is used symbolically to represent the gradual shift in Caver s sensibility. It symbolically signals the movement towards hope from horror in ambiguity. Despair and equilibrium redemption replace Emotional tumult. On the other side, Carver s story is ... The Relationship Of Child Abuse And Father Daughter The relationship of child abuse and father daughter incest Angelica Flores Washington State University Abstract Father daughter incest is defined as any sexual act with a family member that is blood related or closely related. Father daughter incest is the most common type of incest; this is more common than mother son incest. Research shows that women are more likely to be sexually abused by men because men are said to be stronger than women. Men can easily abuse women so women feel like they have no other choice but letting themselves go. Psychotherapy is a way of therapy to help women with insidious backgrounds. This essay contains different findings researchers have found from different incest victims. The topic of incest is a very controversial subject and can be seen as a taboo in the society because depending on the cultures, different cultures have different thoughts on incest. Although incest can be viewed in different ways, incest is still considered sexual abuse, simply because a child cannot give consent until the age of 18. The areas of emphasis will be a view to identifying the key concepts, issues and laws created to better focus the actions of boards. In addition to identifying the locations for each of these developments and how this has led to divergent practices across the globe. Following the review of the literature the author of this paper will seek to discern the current direction and nature of corporate governance into the future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This separation of the owners and managers of the business is the central reason for the existence of what is now referred to as corporate governance. As discussed by Smith (Smith, 1776),Berle (Berle, 1932) and Tricker (Tricker, 2012), this created two differing schools of though. The first is referred to as agency theory, which proposes that those placed in charge of a firm will act in their best interests and not those of the shareholders. This argument is countered by stewardship theory which takes the view that those charged with being directors will seek to act in the best interests of the shareholders. Clearly both of these cannot exist at the same time, it would fall to each individual director as to which side of these two arguments or any possible point between the two extremes they would gravitate towards. As there is clearly very differing possibilities that can occur based on the personalities of those elected to boards, various forms of legislation have been introduced in most countries with a view to providing guidance and in some cases mandating compliance to limit the impacts of poor governance. Taking a geographical perspective to the evolution of corporate governance and by extension, idea of the board of directors as a self regulating social system. There has been three differing perspectives, the two tiered board, legislated compliance and the voluntary or if not why not compliance. The reasons for this are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Essay on Fsa Photography During the Great Depression I glance amusedly at the photo placed before me. The bright and smiling faces of my family stare back me, their expressions depicting complete happiness. My mind drifted back to the events of the day that the photo was taken. It was Memorial Day and so, in the spirit of tradition my large extended family had gathered at the grave of my great grandparents. The day was hot and I had begged my mother to let me join my friends at the pool. However, my mother had refused. Inconsolable, I spent most of the day moping about sulkily. The time came for a group picture and so my grandmother arranged us all just so and then turned to me saying, You d better smile Emma or you ll look back at this and never forgive yourself. Added to this was the series of dust storms terrorizing the mid west. These storms destroyed most crops and left farmers destitute and homeless. This resulted in a mass migration of mid western farmers moving west to areas such as California to find work. These farmers became to be known derogatorily as Okies. Newly elected President Roosevelt began immediately to put programs into affect, which would halt the effects of the depression and aid those who were suffering. These programs became known as the New Deal. The purpose of the New Deal was to provide jobs for the unemployed and offer relief to the distressed. Programs such as the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) and the Works Progress Administration (WPA) put millions of people to work building roads, dams, and other public works. One of these government programs was called the Farm Security Administration (FSA). The FSA was an agency intended to fight rural poverty during a period when the poor agricultural climate and plunging national economy was causing many rural farmers to leave their farms and homes to find work. The FSA also hired photographers as part of a public relations campaign. These photographers documented the lives and conditions of many of these stricken peoples. • 33. Essay about Self Discovery in Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and... How does one go about discovering the veiled mysteries of oneself? First and foremost, what is the self? The self is who we are as an individual. It is the ethics, beliefs, values, opinions, thoughts, actions and everything that one does. Knowing oneself is also knowing what one desires out of life, ones goals and aspirations. External appearances have very little to do with the self. Oryx and Crake is a novel by Margaret Atwood that demonstrates how certain intriguing, distinctive characters develop themselves. Her novel demonstrates how there is no simple way of discovering oneself, but rather a combined method. Margaret Atwood s book Oryx and Crake demonstrates that both the constituted and atomistic methods of self discovery must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Pleeblands are for normal people, but have a vast amount of violence, drugs, and illegal activity in them. The Compounds are a place for extraordinarily perspicacious humans like bioengineers and genetic engineers. The compounds are artificially clean, and protected by the paranoid, armed CorpSeCorps men. The novel literally begins at the end, when there appears to be only one surviving human left, who calls himself Snowman . He lives in a tree, wears an old bed sheet, and is slowly starving to death. Snowman poetically observes the powerful smoldering sun, the daily storms, twisters, mutated animals, the absence of any snowfall and the nullified human life. The land is rampant with spliced, violent, out of control animals like the Snat, (Snake and rat), the pigoon, (Pig and baboon), and the wolvog. (Wolf and dog) The story leading up to these disasters can be observed through Snowman s deteriorating scraps of memories. Snowman was once a little boy named Jimmy, who lived with his parents in a compound called OrganInc. OrganInc contrasts with organic, because they used xenotransplation and splicing to produce mutated animals. They would often produce pigoons with multiple organs to harvest for organ transplants in humans. Jimmy s mom strongly believed this was immoral, and consequently quit her job and left home to join in the protests. Jimmy met a genius named Glenn (Nicknamed Crake ) at his high school, and they became best friends. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Essay about Willem de Kooning Willem de Kooning is considered one of the best American painters to ever live. He is compared to one of the Greek Sea Gods, Proteus, and is called a master of a liquid realm who is gifted with prophecy (Kertess).De Kooning is a highly intellectual, analytical artist with the courage to reject all assumptions and to take up an issue at its most difficult formation (Hess 16). One of de Kooning s good friends was the poet, art critic, and MOMA Curator, Frank O Hara. O Hara considered de Kooning one of the three or four greatest painters of the twentieth century. He idolized de Kooning and was deeply influenced by de Kooning over their relationship. (Stevens 484) One of O Hara s great poems about de Kooning s work was Ode to Willem de ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... O Hara used the lyricism, emotional effects, and metaphorical potentials of poetry to convey a painting s contents, a painting s appearance and and array of some of the painting s potential effects upon a viewer. O Hara s writings about visual art are simultaneously art objects and art criticism. They are art objects themselves made of words responding to paintings. Because this activity criticism as ekphrasis rather than a formalized description advocated by Greenberg, O Hara was able to draw on the strengths of both poetic and prosaic expression to write hybrid pieces of critical text. Again, O Hara s art writings, unlike those of formalist critics like Greenberg, are a hybrid of aesthetic and critical modes of knowing (Shaw 179). Greenberg is wrong in his belief that ekphrastic poetry cannot fully capture the essence of a painting. Lytle Shaw and Charles Bernstein, two critics who supported ekphrastic poetry as a way to capture the essence of a painting, saw O Hara s art writing as a powerful and necessary counter to the rigidity that descends from Clement Greenberg s belief in formal art criticism (Bernstein). Bernstein adds that the significance of O Hara is his ability to avoid simple descriptions of visual art in pursuit of the complexity found in the pieces they are addressing (Bernstein). Shaw and Bernstein both argue that O Hara s poetry is a better way to capture visual art than a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Hannibal Lecter Villain Hannibal Lecter was the most feared psychopath created by Thomas Harris. Prior to the release of The Silence of The Lamb America thought he was another fictional character. After viewing the movie they began to realize Hannibal Lecter was based off Doctor Alfredo Balli Travino. Travino was convicted and sentenced to death for the manslaughter of his gay lover Rangel. The crime of passion included Travino slicing his neck and draining his blood and methodically chopping Rangel s body into pieces and shoving him into a box. Later he drove to a relative s farm where he and a farm hand buried the box. Upon the discovery of the oddly marked grave, by another worker, the police were informed. They went undercover to Travino s practice and arrested him. Immoral actions are not only in the real world, they are also depicted into novels. From fairy tales to love stories there is always a villain that stands in the way of the traditional happy ending. Iago created this plan out of jealousy and revenge. Cassio, Othello s right hand man, was promoted to lieutenant instead of Iago. This was the final event that sent Iago over the edge; the first event being the rumors of Othello having an affair with Emilia, Iago s wife. Iago s plan is to get Othello to believe that Desdemona is unfaithful to him. Iago s reasoning, jealousy and revenge, is what characterizes him as evil. He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps perpetrate it (Martin Luther King Jr). He who thinks evil thoughts is as responsible as one who acts upon them. • 37. A Rational Review Of The Information Available From Social... A rational review of the information available from social research on the subject of polygamy starts with the study of polygamous relationships found in nature. In nature, polygamy is usually the result of three factors: 1) the scarcity of the male species (polygyny); 2) the need for healthy partners to propagate the species in societies where disease or lack of food is a concern; 3) the desire for a partner of higher wealth and/or status. (Golden) In humans, hunter gatherer and tribal societies have typically been polygamous for all three of these reasons but in our western culture these justifications are rarely relevant. Regarding the first point, in most cultures in our world today (excepting the Chinese where population control has skewed the balance), the population is evenly balanced between men and women, especially in Western cultures. Regarding the need to mate with a healthier specimen, in Western culture, sickness and disease strike the sexes more or less equally. The third factor, the desire for a partner of higher wealth and/or status, is still relevant but the advantages of a polygamous relationship to a wealthy or powerful partner do not necessarily outweigh a more satisfying relationship to a less powerful partner in a monogamous relationship. It s a matter of choice. How does rule of law view polygamy and how have they justified its elimination through the legal process?
