Larry Bird Essay
Many dream of becoming an all star. Having the movie like transformation from being a lowly, small
town boy and turning into a true legend. One of the few that lived this was Larry Bird. Larry would
grow from a small town boy in Indiana to transforming and becoming one of the National Basketball
Association s, or NBA s best players of all time. Through Larry Bird s early life, his college years, his
NBA glory and rivals, and his life post NBA all come into account when understanding the greatness
of this true NBA legend.
Larry Bird grew up young and poor in French Lick, Indiana, just outside of West Baden. He was born
on December 7, 1956 (1). Larry s family was poor, just like all of the other families in his town (2). As
one of six siblings, Larry had to compete and fight for everything he got. His original sport he ... Show

They needed a dynamic player like Larry who could carry them, and Larry did (3). Larry won rookie
of the year his first season, and led the Celtics to a 64 18 record, but lost to Philadelphia in the Eastern
Conference Playoffs. The Celtics really needed someone who could assist Bird and take the load off of
him, so they acquired two post players, Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish. With the trio of greatness,
the Celtics easily surpassed anything that other teams tried to throw at them, winning the title in the
1980 81 season (3). The Celtics acquired Dennis Johnson after the 1982 season, a point guard that
Larry liked. Dennis was the missing piece the Celtics had been longing for. They had the post and
wing talent, but they needed a ball handler. In the 1983 84 the Celtics faced a foe they hadn t seen in
the finals before, the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers team was jam packed with all star talent, but
one in particular Larry had seen before. And that person was Magic Johnson. The Celtics and Bird
beat the Lakers and Magic that year, but Magic was looking for

I Attended The Temple College Vocal Point Concert
I attended the Temple College Vocal Point concert on November 1, 2016 at 12:30 pm in the Jackson
Graeter Backstage Theatre. The Theatre, located in the Mary Alice Marshal Performing Arts Center, at
Temple College is small, seating approximately 100 people. Since the setting is quaint, it makes for a
personal experience, allowing the audience to truly see and hear the entertainers character. The stage
size also has a downside, at times the actors would trip over each other while dancing. The Vocal Point
concert titled From Rent to Now: The last 20 Years of Broadway: is directed by Dr. Sara Baker. This
Contemporary Broadway show consists of sixteen characters. It is a spoof on musicals. The opening
scene played by Trey Shonkwiler and Konnor Widmann was funny, and catchy. They sang A Musical
from Something Rotten! Shonkwiler is a Tenor, while Widmann is a Baritone. Together they made
beautiful harmonies, they complimented each other vocally, and as actors very well. The next song
Mama Who Bore Me from Spring Awakening was sung by all the women, with a soloist. Kristen
Garth has a lovely alto voice, her performance was unconfident, and a bit nervous, she had a few notes
that were flat, overall it was nice. There were a few moments where the background singers were too
loud, overpowering the soloist. When He Sees Me, from Waitress, sung by Kris Glorsorio was
wonderful. She has a beautiful Alto/ Mezzo voice. She connected wholly with her character, I thought

Art Has Changed The 20th Century
For centuries, art has been a way to express oneself. Some of the most famous artists started off just
drawing for pleasure and it spiraled into a money making career. One of the most prestigious artists
started off his career like that, Pablo Picasso. From a young age, Picasso became a child prodigy and
displayed the characteristics of an artist. He is known for his groundbreaking influential works that
transformed the twentieth century, his creation of art forms and Cubism that would forever stay after
his passing, and his ability to turn anything into art (Pablo Picasso Biography Painter). Growing up, he
was taught how to draw by his father, who was an artist. In his early years, he attended school, and
later dropped out because the teachers could not help him solve the technical problems he had. At this
point in his life, Picasso had one goal: become a classical painter. When he dropped out, he was
sixteen years old and his ability was nowhere near the most famous artists of his time in the late
1800s. Using his unique form, he began to draw in 1896. After being struck with scarlet fever and
hospitalized for forty days, he began his work after. Using his unique form, he began to draw in 1896.
In that year, he released The First Communion (Jansen). This painting would be the start of his art
career and would give him a standard to have high expectations in his future works. Pablo Picasso s
works were anything but ordinary. During this time, most artists were

Personal Assessment Of Strengths And Areas For Development
What did you learn about your leadership? Personal Assessment of Strengths and Areas for
Development. I have more than one overdone strengths. One of them is over optimism about people,
organization, and trust in the management team. Whether it s upper level, or middle management, I
always feel that they know the best, and they know what they are doing. I only see that everything is
done accurately as they are versus how they could or should be. Remaining loyal to others and the
organization does cause issues for me, because others don t normally see it that way. Trying to make
things easier for others, or trying to be less of a burden on others is perceived as I have no backbone of
myself. Defending the rights of others is seen as I m just always siding with the others. Ensuring
others are valued is seen as what do I need from them. Being sincere is seen as I don t know what I m
doing, and am very easy to please, so I can be ignored. Involve family and friends to point out to me
when I m over using my strengths. This will make me aware of what I really need to concentrate on.
This will help me focus and align my strengths on the needs of everyone, and the organization, and
concentrate on other people who have complementary strengths. Realization that my overdone
strengths could in fact be detrimental to not only my progress, but also others. In general, overdoing it
may hurt my effectiveness just as much as underdoing it. I have to be more cognizance of how others

Essay On Asian Boyz
Inside of the California streets lies an underworld. This underworld contains gangs that are affiliated
with robberies, deaths, auto theft, and many more crimes. Being the second largest Asian gang and the
twelfth largest gang in America, the Asian Boyz gang was established in the by a man named Marvin
Mercado, nicknamed shy boy. The gang is mostly made up of Cambodians and Vietnamese men;
whose main mission is to protect their own people from being attacked by Mexican gang members.
The members who actively wear their navy blue gang colors on the west coast are widely known in
different parts of California but most notably in Los Angeles, California. However, there are additional

Members say that the two gangs use to be affiliated and were family, but for some unknown reason, in
the 1990 s a group of men split from TRG and formed ABZ. Ever since, they have been sworn
enemies. The Asian Boyz call the Tiny Rascals roaches because they represent nasty vermin that can
be stepped on and the Asian Boyz are called apples because they can be bitten. These odd nicknames
are just another example of the growing hatred between the two gangs. They are a mere Warner 2
representation of on going war and the animosity between the two often explodes into extreme
violence. Asian Boyz is a gang that has cultures of mostly half Asian. The Asian Boyz Gang has made
Southern California a killing field, as they would say. What makes them so special is that they will
always provide for one another financially and physically. Most gangs really do not care about one
another. They usually just are there to show their power so they will not get hurt, but ABZ is different.
They care for each gang member. One of the Asian boyz was lost without a home and money and all

Fast Food and Obesity in Adults In Aprils addition of Men s Health magazine there is a picture of

Lord Krishna Diplomat Essay
Lord Krishna as a Diplomat with reference to Mahabharata
Lord Krishna is the lord of almighty. He is a symbol of Peace, Happiness, Wealth and Prosperity. It is
a well known fact that Lord Krishna is known for his friendship and caring and helpful nature. His
friendship with Sudama is very famous and is known by everyone throughout the world. He treated
everyone equally and was against caste discrimination. People used to idealise his friendship with
Sudama as he treated him equally and though he was a king he never made him realize that he is poor
and weak. He treated him with respect and used to love him as a friend through the bottom of his
heart. Lord Krishna followed the path of Dharma , he wanted to establish Dharma again when
Adharma was increasing and he succeeded in establishing Dharma through the war of Mahabharata.
The war of Mahabharata is the greatest war ever fought and was fought for the establishment of
dharma. Lord Krishna supported Pandavas and lead them to the path of victory.

Visit To An Art Museum
At first, I didn t want to go to the museum. That day, I was exhausted after finishing school, so going
all the way to San Francisco wasn t exactly my idea of relaxing. Thankfully, my mom insisted we go
that day, since it was my dad s day off. I felt frustrated that we had to go right then, but my mom
forced us. After getting over my initial reluctance, I got butterflies in my stomach. This was only the
2nd time I d been to an art museum, so I wanted to make the most of it. When we first arrived, we
looked around at some paintings. I visited an exclusive temporary exhibit of Edvard Munch which
included a surprising amount of paintings of naked women. Nothing caught my eye in the first few
galleries, but then I stumbled on an exhibit called In Character by Nam June Paik. As soon as I walked
in, I got embarrassingly excited. I constantly had to stop myself from running around the museum like
a madman. All the TV sculptures and simple, childlike drawings had been just so incredible to me.
The piece that I really enjoyed the most was a sculpture called Self Portrait.
The culture this work represents is the Neo Dadaist movement known as Fluxus. Fluxus was a very
loosely organized group based mostly around New York City. Like Dadaism, Fluxus artists didn t
believe keeping art in museums. Unlike previous art movements, Fluxus was anti art , according to
George Maciunas, the founder . Fluxus was a means to break down the boundaries between art and
life. The historical period Nam June s art represents is the late 20th century, although this specific
work was created in 2005, towards the end of his life. The style it represents is also Fluxus. Although
Nam June Paik left Fluxus, the free, limitless style of Fluxus remains in his art. Self Portrait is a mixed
medium sculpture. I believe the theme of the work is to show that nothing is sacred. Without the
signature, the TV would just be an old TV. This theme is very like the Fluxus movement and shows
how important Fluxus was in Nam June s life.
Nam June Paik reflects the 20th century by using television in his work, which was revolutionary in
his time. Nam June Paik was a Korean American born in Seoul, Korea. He had to flee from Korea
when he was young,

American Revolution 1763
Discuss some of the events that begin to divide England and its American colonies from 1763 through
1776.
The basic premise of the thirteen colonies break with England was the development of capitalism in
them. The American Revolution was an event of historical patterns prepared by previous development
of the colonies. The immediate cause, which caused a mass movement against the mother country in
the 60s, and then a revolutionary war against it in 1775, was the policy of increased pressure and
oppression, that England was carried out in the colonies after the Seven Years War.
In 1763, King George III issued a proclamation forbidding the colonization of land located west of the

It s important for an innovation system that knowledge can diffuse from one company to another,
especially in a heterogeneous context. It can be measured by number of workshops, conferences and
mapping size of the network.
Guidance of the search
Due to limited resources, companies have to choose what they want to develop and investigate. The
things they choose are the things of which they think it can positively change their processes. This
function can be measured by mapping the specific targets of firms, companies and governments.
Market formation
It s almost impossible for new technologies to compete directly from the beginning with incumbent
technologies. Therefore these new technologies need niche markets or (governmental) subsidies to
exist. This function can be measured by the number of niche markets and the number of subsidies.
Resource mobilization
There are financial and human inputs necessary to make the other functions working properly. It is
hard to measure this function, the best way is to interview different actors and institutions.
Creation of legitimacy/counteract resistance to change
Often when there is a new technologie an old one has to be overthrown. This can be measured by
mapping the growth and lobby actions of investment groups.
According to Porter there are 4 determinants to indicate whether there is competitive advantage in an
innovation system. The 4 determinants are:

The Three Major Aspects Of Industrialization From 1865 To...
There are three major aspects of industrialization from 1865 to 1920 that influenced U.S. society,
economy and politics. These are urbanization, working conditions and laissez faire government.
Urbanization created cities who offered large numbers of workers for new factories. In turn, more
factories were built. Workers, both native born and immigrants, moved to cities looking for jobs.
Industrialism and post industrialism let to a decline in patriarchy within the family because of the
changes that were made to society.
The birth of the Industrial Revolution had one staggering advantage, even to the most distanced and
skeptical farmer: a living could be made that was not subject to climate changes. Therefore, a man
could actually be assured of regular, dependable wages. This did not, however, translate into a vast
emigration of farmers to the new cities. An economy based upon agriculture is altogether distinct from
an industrial one. The former is dependent upon the unpredictable elements of nature and the weather,
the consequences of which could lead to ruin and famine. Indispensable to this growth and
development were an unprecedented surge in immigration and urbanization after the Civil War.
American society was in transition. The industrial revolution meant more money and wealth for the
upper classes, especially the owners of large companies. It was thought that the wealth would be
invested back into new factories, so the Americans accepted this wealth distribution.

Advance directives are becoming popular and highly recommended today. However, they have their
advantages and disadvantages. In the case of Margo, her advance directive raises conflict between the
principle of autonomy and beneficence. The principle of autonomy describes a person s ability to
make his or her own decisions without others controlling their choices or influencing their decisions.
The principle of beneficence describes the act of doing good to others by either removing harm,
preventing harm and promoting good. The advance directive serves to maintain a person s autonomy
in situations in which they are not competent enough to make informed decisions. Applying this
principle to Margo, the healthcare team would have to respect her wishes and deny her any treatment.
However, in doing so, the healthcare team would not be upholding the principle of beneficence
because they would not be providing treatment that would be beneficial to the patient. If the patient
were to receive the treatment, the healthcare team would be removing harm from the patient. The past
wishes versus present interests is an issue in which the patient s past wishes do not align with the
patient s current interests. The patient, when competent might have had differed desires and views
compared to the now incompetent patient. In some situations, mental changes that occur may cause an
individual to change their personality completely. This then raises the question of whether the

Trigger Finger Case Study
Overview
Trigger finger, sometimes called trigger thumb, is a condition that locks a person s finger into a bent
position. Sometimes the finger will then snap straight out, similar to the way a trigger is pulled and
released. It happens when inflammation causes the space around the sheath that protects the tendon to
narrow. In severe cases, the finger cannot be straightened out.
The irritation and inflammation associated with trigger finger disrupts the normal gliding motion of
the tendon as it moves through the sheath. This interference contributes to the trademark bent position
of an affected finger. If the tendon sheath remains irritated for an extended period of time, it can lead
to thickening, scarring, and bumps that further impede

Energy Self-Sufficiency in Building through Photovoltaic...
Energy Self Sufficiency in Building through Photovoltaic Cells ABSTRACT Solar energy is a way to
acquire self sufficiency of many residential buildings. The different forms of solar cells made from
different materials and in different ways are able to increase the efficiency of the solar cells and allow
solar energy to become more widespread. Due to the possibility of a shortage of fossil fuels in the near
future, solar power can serve as an integral component in solving the energy crisis through developing
energy self sufficient buildings. However, after researching many already published materials, the
possibility of allowing the world s buildings to become self sufficient is not possible unless other solar
cells become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To cause a current to flow through the cells and create an electrical current, the semiconductor
incorporates a p n junction, which is when p type silicon is placed next to n type silicon. The electrons
will then flow towards the positive side of the solar cells instead of in random directions (see figure 1).
These semiconductors are usually made out of silicon, which, when in different forms can have
efficiency from 16% to 32%. The efficiency of a photovoltaic cell is measured by the ratio of the
amount of solar energy it converts to electrical energy to the total amount of solar energy that hits the
cell (Department of Energy 2004). Figure 1: The Photovoltaic Effect, Converting Light Energy to
Electrical Energy Source: Walker 2004 Photovoltaic Cells 4 The idea of photovoltaic cells is based on
Albert Einstein s photoelectric effect. The photoelectric effect describes the effect of certain energies
of light on different materials. Photons are able to dislodge electrons from the material when the
energy of the photons exceeds the energy needed to dislodge an electron from the material plus the
kinetic energy of electron. However, if the photon does not have enough energy, the electron is unable
to escape and remains in the material. Bell Labs first put these cells to use in

History of Clothing
The History of Clothes
Egypt
Men
All men wore a wrap round skirt that was tied at the waist with a belt. Sometimes the material was
wrapped around the legs as well. The length of the skirt varied depending on the fashion of the time in
the time of the Old Kingdom they were short while in the Middle Kingdom they were calf length.
During the New Kingdom period it was fashionable to wear a pleated garment.
Rich Egyptian men were able to afford the best quality linen which was very fine and almost see
through. Rich Egyptian men also wore as much jewelry as they could afford and decorated their
clothes. They also wore headdresses for special occasions.

Women
Women also wore different kinds of clothes depending on who they were. All women wore at least
one tunic down to their ankles. Many women, if they could afford it, wore a linen under tunic and a
woolen over tunic, and often a wool cloak over that if they were going outside. On their legs women
sometimes wore woven tights or socks, but women never wore pants. Nuns wore tunics like other
women, but generally in black or white rather than colors. Noblewomen often wore fancy tall hats,
sometimes with streamers coming off them. They sometimes plucked the hair from their foreheads to
give themselves very high foreheads which people thought were beautiful.
17th Century
At the beginning of the 17th century men wore starched collars called ruffs. Women wore frames
made of wood or whalebone under their dresses. However the farthingale was soon discarded and the
ruff evolved into a large lace collar (for those who could afford it!).
Men
In the 17th century men wore knee length, trouser like garments called breeches. They also wore
stockings and boots. On the upper body men wore linen shirts. In the early 17th century they wore a
kind of jacket called a doublet with a cape on top. Men wore their hair long. They also wore beards.
In the late 17th century a man s doublet became a waistcoat and men wore a frock coat over it. With
breeches it was rather like a three piece suit. Men were now clean shaven and they wore wigs.

The Advantages of Using Linux
Android is an operating system that was built upon the very popular Linux kernel. Its main focus has
always been that of providing one of the best options for an operating system that will work for
touchscreen devices. Those devices typically include various smart phones as well as what has been a
newer craze as of late, tablets. Android was originally a self operated company, however it was
eventually bought out by Google, who was its greatest financial support. Linux itself is a very old
operating system that was built on the platform of being free for everyone, as well as being open
sourced so that anyone could have the opportunity to customize it to their liking to provide different
functionalities that the particular user may need. The popularity of Linux exploded and with that and
its ability for customization it has become of the most secure operating systems there is. This provided
an obvious choice for it to become the core of the Android system, thus providing tremendous security
for anyone that uses an Android operated device. The main features that were chosen from the Linux
kernel to become assets in the Android operating system were as follows; user based permission, the
ability to isolate processes, the ability to remove certain parts of the kernel that could have the
potential to be insecure, and a very secure inter processing structure for communication among
various parts of the operating system. Without a doubt, the greatest advantage of the use of the

Problems Faced By The Spot Foreign Exchange Markets
problems in currency market
In the spot foreign exchange markets, there are several broad areas of potential abuse, which may
occur on a stand alone basis or in combination: (c) In cases of pricing benchmarks which are
determined by actual executed trades during a defined window such as the WM/Reuters rate 60
second window, traders executing trades during the window with the intention of moving the
benchmark, including splitting such trades into strategic blocks for maximum benchmark impact,
thereby making a greater spread where subsequently executing a client order at a guaranteed or limit

If a firm or approved person engages in any of the activities described in 1 above, the principle may be
breached and there may, depending on the facts, also be rule breaches in relation to client
confidentiality. For breaches of rules and principles, the FCA can impose a fine and give public
censure. Fines are commensurate with the seriousness of the breach and will be determined by
reference to the FCA s usual criteria.
If manipulation in the spot markets turns out not to be the only instance of foreign exchange rate
manipulation, and manipulative practices are also used in currency swaps, then individuals may also
face censure under FSMA since these are qualifying investments and therefore subject to the market
abuse regime.

1. Explain how the particular financial service is regulated? (3 Marks)
Federal and state governments have a myriad of agencies in place that regulate and oversee financial
markets and companies. These agencies each have a specific range of duties and responsibilities that
enable them to act independently of each other while they work to accomplish similar objectives.
Although opinions vary on the efficiency, effectiveness and even the need for some of these agencies,
they were each designed with a goal in mind and will most likely be around for some time. With that

Environmental Issues
One of the greatest things which is being talked about presently is the growing concerns of scientists,
environmentalists, and people of this planet when it comes to environmental issues. Environmental
issues is something that is discussed frequently in the news, in politics, and in classrooms around the
world. More and more we are becoming informed and aware of the current and ever facing
environmental crises that are taking place around the world today. Some scientists and
environmentalists believe that many things within our lives daily contribute to the growing detriment
of the environment. This paper will examine the concept of the biosphere, the differing viewpoints of
environmental optimists and environmental pessimists regarding the growing environmental issues,
and the ways in which we can work to preserve our environment and solutions to environmental
issues. As discussed in the text International Politics on the World Stage one of the main
environmental goals currently is to sustain and preserve our biosphere. The biosphere is the global
sum of all of our ecosystems on the area of earth that is occupied by living things and able to support
life. It contains the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere of the planet. The biosphere consists of
the land that we live on, the water that we use, and the air that we breathe. The biosphere also contains
the upper atmosphere and supports the life of the living

The Watchman Character Traits
Dr. Manhattan
In The Watchman, Dr. Manhattan is a superman who exhibits some very human qualities, while
having other qualities that set him apart from society. At the beginning of The Watchman, Dr.
Manhattan is a very neutral character. He does not do things on a whim; all of his actions are logic
based. He appears to have complete control over the physical realm, including time, though he seems
to struggle with interpersonal relationships. Though Dr. Manhattan changes very little during the
course of The Watchman, the description of his transformation lends valuable insight into his
character.
The strengths of Dr. Manhattan are many; he has almost complete control over matter. The most
notable uses being when he wins the Vietnam War, when he creates a glass masterpiece on Mars, and
when, at the end of the story, he kills Rorschach. This ability, though not a true character trait, helps to
set the scene for the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manhattan is an extremely rational person and emotions do not have any effect on his decisions. When
Rorschach upsets the Silk Spectre, Dr. Manhattan simply removes him from the room by teleportation.
His attitude of doing the most rational thing is again demonstrated when, towards the end of the story,
he kills Rorschach, at his request, to prevent him from spreading the truth. However, between these
two events there is a subtle shift in Dr. Manhattan away from looking only at immediate change to
doing something with a more permanent effect. This subtle shift in his personality shows that he has
developed a greater depth of rational thought. Dr. Manhattan s last act of leaving the earth forever
completes this transformation. He realises that right course of action is to leave, so he leaves. This self
imposed exile indicates a movement away from his humanness and towards a more god like

First, they need to build out their IT team. Currently, they only have one employee focusing on data
analysis. If the historical data they have isn t accurate then the CRM software is useless. So they first
need to get through the two years worth or data they have and verify its accuracy. They also need to
make sure that the data they collect in the future is reliable accurate information. In the past there were
not any checks and balances on data accuracy. They need to have a system that can gather the
information automatically so that the risk of human error is eliminated or at least reduced. Secondly,
they need to take a look at the current systems they are using and make sure they can integrate
everything into CRM. Some of the applications they use are custom developed so it may take some
work on those systems in order to make them integrate with CRM. Implementing CRM is a very large
project that can take many years to fully integrate. Since IT isn t Carnival s core competence they need
to bring in a consultant so they can look into Carnival s current IS infrastructure and make
recommendations as to what Carnival can do to prepare for CRM. One thing they will definitely have
to develop is a test environment. As they implement CRM across their current applications, they need
to be able to work out the problems in a test environment before pushing it through to production.

The Spill Of The Bp Oil Spill
The BP oil spill was one of the worst oil spills to ever happen in the US. There are many factors that
caused this horrible spill to happen; to be exact there were eight failures of the oilrig that caused this
disaster. The first failure was the cement at the bottom of the borehole was not sealed properly. This
caused the oil and gas to start leaking into the pipe leading to the surface of the rig. The second failure
was that the valve leading to the surface was sealed improperly with cement. In addition, there were
two mechanical valves, which failed to stop the leak of gas and oil. The crew was also to blame
because they did pressure tests, which they did not read properly. This made the crew believe the oil
well was under control when it was not. The crew also did not spot the leak before the explosion; there
was an increase in pressure inside the well fifty minutes before the explosion but the crew did not
interpret it as a leak. Next, about eight minutes before the rig exploded, mud and gas began to come
out onto the floor of the rig. The crew tried to stop this by activating the blowout preventer, which is at
the top of the well, however this caused the blowout preventer to malfunction. The rig had side vents
that were suppose to release this mud and gas, but instead it was diverted to a device that separates
only small amounts of mud and gas. This device quickly became overwhelmed and flammable gas
was sent all over the rig. The alarm on the rig should have sounded

Analysis Of Bach s Orgel Buchlein
J.S. Bach was born into a stylistic period called the Baroque period. This period
was one of decorative, lavish extravagance in relation to art, architecture and
music. Similar to architecture at this time, Bach s music was extremely ornate
with heavy embellishments and was somewhat characterised by its ornamentation
yet still had a strict organisation of insistent rhythms. Thus, music of the
Baroque period is somewhat paradoxical in that, while it is extravagantly ornate
and emotionally expressive, it still manages to be rigorously controlled and
systematic. This may be seen particularly in Bach s Orgel Buchlein, more
commonly known as The Little Organ Book, which contains 46 chorale
preludes for organ which has been argued to be a key to understanding his
music as a whole. Each of these chorales within the Orgel Buchlein takes an
original Lutheran chorale and develops it by adding a motivic development.
Further, throughout Bach s Orgel Buchlein, he explores diverse range of
expressive techniques, techniques that had not yet been discovered by any of his
contempories as he combines a rhetorical and expressive musical language with
refined counterpoint. Bach had been determined to combine strict polyphony
with free composition whilst also using contrapuntal elements to articulate the
emotion behind the words being sung. This development marked the beginning
of Bach s individuality, personifying every note of each

  • 2. Larry Bird Essay Many dream of becoming an all star. Having the movie like transformation from being a lowly, small town boy and turning into a true legend. One of the few that lived this was Larry Bird. Larry would grow from a small town boy in Indiana to transforming and becoming one of the National Basketball Association s, or NBA s best players of all time. Through Larry Bird s early life, his college years, his NBA glory and rivals, and his life post NBA all come into account when understanding the greatness of this true NBA legend. Larry Bird grew up young and poor in French Lick, Indiana, just outside of West Baden. He was born on December 7, 1956 (1). Larry s family was poor, just like all of the other families in his town (2). As one of six siblings, Larry had to compete and fight for everything he got. His original sport he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They needed a dynamic player like Larry who could carry them, and Larry did (3). Larry won rookie of the year his first season, and led the Celtics to a 64 18 record, but lost to Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Celtics really needed someone who could assist Bird and take the load off of him, so they acquired two post players, Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish. With the trio of greatness, the Celtics easily surpassed anything that other teams tried to throw at them, winning the title in the 1980 81 season (3). The Celtics acquired Dennis Johnson after the 1982 season, a point guard that Larry liked. Dennis was the missing piece the Celtics had been longing for. They had the post and wing talent, but they needed a ball handler. In the 1983 84 the Celtics faced a foe they hadn t seen in the finals before, the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers team was jam packed with all star talent, but one in particular Larry had seen before. And that person was Magic Johnson. The Celtics and Bird beat the Lakers and Magic that year, but Magic was looking for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. I Attended The Temple College Vocal Point Concert I attended the Temple College Vocal Point concert on November 1, 2016 at 12:30 pm in the Jackson Graeter Backstage Theatre. The Theatre, located in the Mary Alice Marshal Performing Arts Center, at Temple College is small, seating approximately 100 people. Since the setting is quaint, it makes for a personal experience, allowing the audience to truly see and hear the entertainers character. The stage size also has a downside, at times the actors would trip over each other while dancing. The Vocal Point concert titled From Rent to Now: The last 20 Years of Broadway: is directed by Dr. Sara Baker. This Contemporary Broadway show consists of sixteen characters. It is a spoof on musicals. The opening scene played by Trey Shonkwiler and Konnor Widmann was funny, and catchy. They sang A Musical from Something Rotten! Shonkwiler is a Tenor, while Widmann is a Baritone. Together they made beautiful harmonies, they complimented each other vocally, and as actors very well. The next song Mama Who Bore Me from Spring Awakening was sung by all the women, with a soloist. Kristen Garth has a lovely alto voice, her performance was unconfident, and a bit nervous, she had a few notes that were flat, overall it was nice. There were a few moments where the background singers were too loud, overpowering the soloist. When He Sees Me, from Waitress, sung by Kris Glorsorio was wonderful. She has a beautiful Alto/ Mezzo voice. She connected wholly with her character, I thought the balance of head ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Art Has Changed The 20th Century For centuries, art has been a way to express oneself. Some of the most famous artists started off just drawing for pleasure and it spiraled into a money making career. One of the most prestigious artists started off his career like that, Pablo Picasso. From a young age, Picasso became a child prodigy and displayed the characteristics of an artist. He is known for his groundbreaking influential works that transformed the twentieth century, his creation of art forms and Cubism that would forever stay after his passing, and his ability to turn anything into art (Pablo Picasso Biography Painter). Growing up, he was taught how to draw by his father, who was an artist. In his early years, he attended school, and later dropped out because the teachers could not help him solve the technical problems he had. At this point in his life, Picasso had one goal: become a classical painter. When he dropped out, he was sixteen years old and his ability was nowhere near the most famous artists of his time in the late 1800s. Using his unique form, he began to draw in 1896. After being struck with scarlet fever and hospitalized for forty days, he began his work after. Using his unique form, he began to draw in 1896. In that year, he released The First Communion (Jansen). This painting would be the start of his art career and would give him a standard to have high expectations in his future works. • 5. Personal Assessment Of Strengths And Areas For Development What did you learn about your leadership? Personal Assessment of Strengths and Areas for Development. I have more than one overdone strengths. One of them is over optimism about people, organization, and trust in the management team. Whether it s upper level, or middle management, I always feel that they know the best, and they know what they are doing. I only see that everything is done accurately as they are versus how they could or should be. Remaining loyal to others and the organization does cause issues for me, because others don t normally see it that way. Trying to make things easier for others, or trying to be less of a burden on others is perceived as I have no backbone of myself. Defending the rights of others is seen as I m just always siding with the others. Ensuring others are valued is seen as what do I need from them. Being sincere is seen as I don t know what I m doing, and am very easy to please, so I can be ignored. Involve family and friends to point out to me when I m over using my strengths. This will make me aware of what I really need to concentrate on. This will help me focus and align my strengths on the needs of everyone, and the organization, and concentrate on other people who have complementary strengths. Realization that my overdone strengths could in fact be detrimental to not only my progress, but also others. In general, overdoing it may hurt my effectiveness just as much as underdoing it. Being the second largest Asian gang and the twelfth largest gang in America, the Asian Boyz gang was established in the by a man named Marvin Mercado, nicknamed shy boy. The gang is mostly made up of Cambodians and Vietnamese men; whose main mission is to protect their own people from being attacked by Mexican gang members. These odd nicknames are just another example of the growing hatred between the two gangs. They are a mere Warner 2 representation of on going war and the animosity between the two often explodes into extreme violence. Asian Boyz is a gang that has cultures of mostly half Asian. The Asian Boyz Gang has made Southern California a killing field, as they would say. What makes them so special is that they will always provide for one another financially and physically. Most gangs really do not care about one another. They usually just are there to show their power so they will not get hurt, but ABZ is different. They care for each gang member. • 11. Visit To An Art Museum At first, I didn t want to go to the museum. That day, I was exhausted after finishing school, so going all the way to San Francisco wasn t exactly my idea of relaxing. Thankfully, my mom insisted we go that day, since it was my dad s day off. I felt frustrated that we had to go right then, but my mom forced us. After getting over my initial reluctance, I got butterflies in my stomach. This was only the 2nd time I d been to an art museum, so I wanted to make the most of it. When we first arrived, we looked around at some paintings. I visited an exclusive temporary exhibit of Edvard Munch which included a surprising amount of paintings of naked women. Nothing caught my eye in the first few galleries, but then I stumbled on an exhibit called In Character by Nam June Paik. As soon as I walked in, I got embarrassingly excited. I constantly had to stop myself from running around the museum like a madman. All the TV sculptures and simple, childlike drawings had been just so incredible to me. The piece that I really enjoyed the most was a sculpture called Self Portrait. The culture this work represents is the Neo Dadaist movement known as Fluxus. Fluxus was a very loosely organized group based mostly around New York City. Like Dadaism, Fluxus artists didn t believe keeping art in museums. Unlike previous art movements, Fluxus was anti art , according to George Maciunas, the founder . Fluxus was a means to break down the boundaries between art and life. The historical period Nam June s art represents is the late 20th century, although this specific work was created in 2005, towards the end of his life. The style it represents is also Fluxus. Although Nam June Paik left Fluxus, the free, limitless style of Fluxus remains in his art. Self Portrait is a mixed medium sculpture. I believe the theme of the work is to show that nothing is sacred. Without the signature, the TV would just be an old TV. This theme is very like the Fluxus movement and shows how important Fluxus was in Nam June s life. Nam June Paik reflects the 20th century by using television in his work, which was revolutionary in his time. Nam June Paik was a Korean American born in Seoul, Korea. It can be measured by number of workshops, conferences and mapping size of the network. Guidance of the search Due to limited resources, companies have to choose what they want to develop and investigate. The things they choose are the things of which they think it can positively change their processes. This function can be measured by mapping the specific targets of firms, companies and governments. Market formation It s almost impossible for new technologies to compete directly from the beginning with incumbent technologies. Therefore these new technologies need niche markets or (governmental) subsidies to exist. This function can be measured by the number of niche markets and the number of subsidies. Resource mobilization There are financial and human inputs necessary to make the other functions working properly. It is hard to measure this function, the best way is to interview different actors and institutions. Creation of legitimacy/counteract resistance to change Often when there is a new technologie an old one has to be overthrown. This can be measured by mapping the growth and lobby actions of investment groups. • 19. The Three Major Aspects Of Industrialization From 1865 To... There are three major aspects of industrialization from 1865 to 1920 that influenced U.S. society, economy and politics. These are urbanization, working conditions and laissez faire government. Urbanization created cities who offered large numbers of workers for new factories. In turn, more factories were built. Workers, both native born and immigrants, moved to cities looking for jobs. Industrialism and post industrialism let to a decline in patriarchy within the family because of the changes that were made to society. The birth of the Industrial Revolution had one staggering advantage, even to the most distanced and skeptical farmer: a living could be made that was not subject to climate changes. Therefore, a man could actually be assured of regular, dependable wages. This did not, however, translate into a vast emigration of farmers to the new cities. An economy based upon agriculture is altogether distinct from an industrial one. The former is dependent upon the unpredictable elements of nature and the weather, the consequences of which could lead to ruin and famine. Indispensable to this growth and development were an unprecedented surge in immigration and urbanization after the Civil War. American society was in transition. The industrial revolution meant more money and wealth for the upper classes, especially the owners of large companies. It was thought that the wealth would be invested back into new factories, so the Americans accepted this wealth distribution. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Advance Directives Advantages And Disadvantages Advance directives are becoming popular and highly recommended today. However, they have their advantages and disadvantages. In the case of Margo, her advance directive raises conflict between the principle of autonomy and beneficence. The principle of autonomy describes a person s ability to make his or her own decisions without others controlling their choices or influencing their decisions. The principle of beneficence describes the act of doing good to others by either removing harm, preventing harm and promoting good. The advance directive serves to maintain a person s autonomy in situations in which they are not competent enough to make informed decisions. Applying this principle to Margo, the healthcare team would have to respect her wishes and deny her any treatment. However, in doing so, the healthcare team would not be upholding the principle of beneficence because they would not be providing treatment that would be beneficial to the patient. If the patient were to receive the treatment, the healthcare team would be removing harm from the patient. The past wishes versus present interests is an issue in which the patient s past wishes do not align with the patient s current interests. The patient, when competent might have had differed desires and views compared to the now incompetent patient. In some situations, mental changes that occur may cause an individual to change their personality completely. This then raises the question of whether the competent ... To cause a current to flow through the cells and create an electrical current, the semiconductor incorporates a p n junction, which is when p type silicon is placed next to n type silicon. The electrons will then flow towards the positive side of the solar cells instead of in random directions (see figure 1). These semiconductors are usually made out of silicon, which, when in different forms can have efficiency from 16% to 32%. The efficiency of a photovoltaic cell is measured by the ratio of the amount of solar energy it converts to electrical energy to the total amount of solar energy that hits the cell (Department of Energy 2004). • 33. The Spill Of The Bp Oil Spill The BP oil spill was one of the worst oil spills to ever happen in the US. There are many factors that caused this horrible spill to happen; to be exact there were eight failures of the oilrig that caused this disaster. The first failure was the cement at the bottom of the borehole was not sealed properly. This caused the oil and gas to start leaking into the pipe leading to the surface of the rig. The second failure was that the valve leading to the surface was sealed improperly with cement. In addition, there were two mechanical valves, which failed to stop the leak of gas and oil. The crew was also to blame because they did pressure tests, which they did not read properly. This made the crew believe the oil well was under control when it was not. The crew also did not spot the leak before the explosion; there was an increase in pressure inside the well fifty minutes before the explosion but the crew did not interpret it as a leak. Next, about eight minutes before the rig exploded, mud and gas began to come out onto the floor of the rig. The crew tried to stop this by activating the blowout preventer, which is at the top of the well, however this caused the blowout preventer to malfunction. • 34. Analysis Of Bach s Orgel Buchlein J.S. Bach was born into a stylistic period called the Baroque period. This period was one of decorative, lavish extravagance in relation to art, architecture and music. Similar to architecture at this time, Bach s music was extremely ornate with heavy embellishments and was somewhat characterised by its ornamentation yet still had a strict organisation of insistent rhythms. Thus, music of the Baroque period is somewhat paradoxical in that, while it is extravagantly ornate and emotionally expressive, it still manages to be rigorously controlled and systematic. This may be seen particularly in Bach s Orgel Buchlein, more commonly known as The Little Organ Book, which contains 46 chorale preludes for organ which has been argued to be a key to understanding his music as a whole. Each of these chorales within the Orgel Buchlein takes an original Lutheran chorale and develops it by adding a motivic development. Further, throughout Bach s Orgel Buchlein, he explores diverse range of expressive techniques, techniques that had not yet been discovered by any of his contempories as he combines a rhetorical and expressive musical language with refined counterpoint.
