Why Does Meiosis Lead To Significant Genetic Variation...
1. Name essential structural elements of a functional eukaryotic chromosome and describe their
functions.
Centromere attachment to the spindle fibers during cell division
Telomere are the caps at each end of each strand of DNA that protect our chromosomes.
Origins of replication replication is initiated
2. Identify the four different types of chromosomes based on the position of the centromere.
Metacentric, Submetacentric, Acrocentric, and telocentric
3. Name the stages of the cell cycle and explain what happens in each stage.
Interphase This is the phase that prepares for cell division, duplication. This is also called the resting
phase.
Prophase This is the first stage of mitosis, chromosomes that consist of two chromatids and condense

Anaphase 2 The sister chromatids that are individual chromosomes move away from each other and
move to the opposite end of the cell.
Telophase 2 This is where the process ends and meiosis is complete. A nuclear envelope forms around
each set of chromosomes and then cytokinesis occurs, four daughter cells are then produced with a
haploid set of chromosomes.
6. Why does meiosis lead to significant genetic variation while mitosis does not?
Meiosis is a process of cell division where a diploid cell becomes four haploid cells resembling
mitosis but the chromosomes are duplicated once in which gametocytes form gametes. They occur in
genetic information in variation of female and male gametes. In Mitosis the nuclei of the diploid cells
reproduce after chromosomes duplicate in four stages with two diploid cells formed with identical set
of chromosomes with the cytoplasm, it also divides with the cells and they occur in somatic cells.
7. A Chimera is a single individual genetically consisting of two different individuals. How do you
think this can happen?
This happens because it comes from 2 different

Nervous System Analysis
As we do simple actions in our life we start to do them so often that we don t even realize how and
when we are doing them. For example when we get ready to ride a bike we just get on the bike and go,
because we have done it so many times that it just comes naturally to us. Another example is watching
a scary movie and putting popcorn in our mouth at the same time. Well it is our nervous system that
helps us to do these simple actions because it handles information. When our phone rings there are a
number of functions that go on in our brain. The first thing would be our neurons in the auditory
cortex which picks up the sound of the ringing phone, neuron functions are then going to relay the
information to higher areas to process what s going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They supply nourishment to neurons, help remove neurons waste products, and provide insulation
around many axons. The primary role is to shield synapses from the chatter of surrounding neuronal
activity, enhancing the signal to noise ratio in the nervous system. The Neural Impulse uses energy to
send information. The resting potential of a neuron is its stable, negative charge when the cell is
inactive An action potential is a very brief shift in a neurons electrical charge that travels along the
axon. After firing the action potential the channels in the cell membrane that opened now close up.
Some time is needed before they are ready to open and fire again. The absolute refractory period is the
minimum length of time after an action potential, during which another action potential cannot begin.
Special junctions called synapses which depend on chemical messengers. A synaptic cleft is a
microscopic gap between the terminal button of 1 neuron and the cell membrane of another neuron.
The neuron that sends a signal across the gap is called the presynaptic neuron, and the neuron that
receives the signal is called the postsynaptic neuron. The arrival of an action potential at an axon s
terminal buttons triggers the release of neurotransmitters chemicals that transmit information from 1
neuron to another. Most of these chemicals are stored in small sacs called synaptic vesicles. Receptor
sites are tuned to recognize and respond to some neurotransmitters but not to others. When a
neurotransmitter and a receptor molecule combine, reactions in the cell membrane cause a
postsynaptic potential, a voltage change at a receptor site on a postsynaptic cell membrane. They are
graded which means that they vary in size and that they increase or decrease the probability of a
neural impulse in the receiving cell in proportion to the amount of voltage change. An excitatory PSP

Free Will In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
It seems that as a race, humans are entangled in the never ending battle between edacity and altruism,
repeating the same mistakes and duplicating the poor decisions of those before them until they are
empowered enough to believe in their own free will. It is this free will and ability to triumph that is
known to us as timshel, which is one of the more central ideas about men and sin that the Steinbeck
novel East of Eden embodies. It is by far the most conspicuous and pronounced of any of the
arguments Steinbeck makes, and this can be attributed to its timeless relevancy. Perhaps every choice
made by every individual that has existed since Genesis, as well as every choice that all generations to
come have the power to make for themselves can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is exemplified in his relationships, namely with Abra, described best by saying ...of Abra, he
made his immaculate dream, and having created her, fell in love with her...And as Abra became more
radiant, more pure and beautiful, Aron took an increasing joy in a concept of his own wickedness
(521). This is a parallel to Adam s clouded vision of Cathy. Aron refuses to accept anything but an
idealized story for himself and and is therefore unable to embrace the reality of life, which explains
his grief at Stanford considering that What he had expected to find at the university had been vague
and beautiful. His picture―never really inspected―had been of clean eyed young men and
immaculate women... (520). What he actually finds is reality, which isn t atrocious, but compared to
Aron s rendition of life, the situation disappoints, leaving him with a feeling of dissatisfaction despite
the amount of love he receives. Aron is perpetually frustrated with his father for the same reason.
When the absence of a mother does not live up to his vision of a family, he blames his father for this,
regardless of how much love Adam proffers. He continually tries to fill this void by creating an
idealized perception of a mother, and using Abra to substitute as the ideal woman he has

annual festival. This festival is a benefit concert for Sandra s Comfort Inc. Many bands play such as
the Howlin Brothers. Urban Pioneers. Jenny Johnson Band. Bosco and Whiteford. The Gordons. and
Pint and a half. All these bands play traditional bluegrass music and some add country into the mix
every once in a while. There is also lots of food such as fried chicken and many sides. Also. there is a
silent auction and raffles that go on throughout the day.

The stage was built by one guy from the bottoms. It s one of the most beautiful and unique stages that
people from all over the United States come to play on it. This stage is the center of the whole festival.
The stage also sets the mood because the stage looks like an old porch and I think it just get everyone
back to the old times where everyone would sit on a porch and play bluegrass music.
If I ever went and attend this again I would change the amount of time I actually sat and listen to the
music because it s so beautiful and when they sing it comes from the heart. I also would change the
amount of time each performer had because you could just tell that each of them could play for hours
and hours. They one thing I wouldn t change would be the number of people that come from all
around to enjoy food, family and the music.
I look forward to this event all year because not only do I get to spend time with family and friends
but I get to experience something that some people never do and it s all for a great cause that

Exercise Response Essay
Both subjects took part in exercise. One athlete on the treadmill and the other on the bike.
Exercise 1:
Client one was doing exercise on a bike for a 30 minute time period. The cradle attached to the bike
weighed 1kg and extra weight was added (+ 0.1kg) and taken away to ensure the client remained in
the correct heart rate zone throughout the period of time that they were exercising for. The intensity of
this exercise was medium to high as it required an increase in the clients breathing rate compared to
what it was at rest and also the client began to sweat. During this time period several tests were taken
every five minutes. One of the tests that was taken was the clients heart rate, the client was wearing a

done immediately after 5 minutes of exercising in order to get a valid and fair result. Peak flow is
measured using a peak flow meter which measures how quickly the air comes out of our lungs that the
client exhaled forcefully after fully inhaling. Another test that was taken was the clients RPE which

When people think about Greek art they thin about the Classical period comes to mind. During this
time, the Greeks achieved their highest level of work and pressed exploration of form and perspective
in art to limits well beyond its previous bounds. (Willian Biers) The Classical period had different
posses just like the Chiastic pose in the Kritios Boy statue helps show how they changed different
ways and had new ideas on making sculptures. Kritios boy statue was small then life size standing a
height of 1.24 m (William Biers). This sculpture was different in the sense that it was a change in the
way they showed a more realistic sculpture. The growing in interest in realism and idealization of the
human body can be seen in the sculpture Discobolus by Myron. (British Museum). The discus thrower
is shown mid moment about to let go of the discus and it shows how sculptures were trying to show
much realism they could put in a sculpture. Discobolus is very well known it is one of the many

Essay on The Exploitation and Objectification of Women in...
Women have consistently been perceived as second class citizens. Even now, in times when a social
conscience is present in most individuals, in an era where an atmosphere of gender equality
supposedly exists, it is blatantly apparent that the objectification and marginalization of women is still
a major social issue. In reality, progression in terms of reducing female exploitation has been stagnant
at best. Not only is the degradation of women a major problem that to date has not been eradicated,
but it is actually being endorsed by some music celebrities. There are a growing number of people
who purchase rap albums that support the fallacy that women are mere objects and should be treated
as such. As the popularity of rap continues to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Weisstuch). The underlying message is that women live exclusively for the sexual gratification of
men based on male power, privilege and preference. These images serve as a grim reminder that
women are being exploited as sexual objects through rap videos. Therefore, the objectification of
women through the means of rap music is a major influence in the exploitation of women. In addition
to the actualization of women, rap also promotes extreme violence and abuse towards women. Besides
the ?mild? abuse the vast majority of rappers perpetually depict, some rappers display a loathing so
deep it can only be classified as misogyny. In the song ??97 Bonnie and Clyde,? by Eminem, he says ?
There goes mama, splashing in the water. No more fighting with dad, no more restraining order. Blow
her kisses bye bye, tell mommy you love her? (Bonnie). In a sinister fashion, the song goes on to
describe how he murdered and disposed of his ex wife with the assistance of his three year old
daughter. Here the violence towards women crosses generations and involves the traumatic use and
abuse of a three year old girl. It promotes that violence, even toward our most vulnerable, is
acceptable if they are female. Undeniably, the hip hop culture?s perverse attitude towards the
treatment of women has gradually been accepted by society. It seems society has been desensitized to
the violence of rap by

Tommy Vladek
According to many different philosophers such as Descartes and Locke there has to be more to the
mind than just the materialistic view. There are many different parts to the brain which make it a
whole according to science, so thinking about the brain from a philosophical standpoint, there must be
different parts to make up the minds identity. According to John Perry, the memories and personality
traits as well as beliefs and intellectual skills make up a personal identity and the body is just a vessel
that holds this identity (TP, 197). Certain people might believe that if one were to get a brain
transplant they would wake up the same person they were before they went in for the surgery. I, on the

(TP, 194). Given this perspective Tommy would have to remain with Vladek because he is technically
still legally and genetically his son. The legality of this situation would be especially complicated
because there is hypothetically two boys in one. Although I have to disagree with the legal side
because if the boy were to wake up as Sam it would be traumatizing for him to not only look like
another boy but be torn from his previous home and be forced to live with a stranger. Do you think

Taking a Look at Body Art
Research Assignment (Body Art) Body painting is a certain form of art that continued with humans
through the ancient times to the modern day times, where artists use the human body as canvasses to
show beauty like no other style of artwork can. African, European, Asia, and Australian tribes have
shown records that body painting was used. The tribes were using pigments from plant leaves and
fruits to decorate themselves because body art was an important part of their lives. Body art would
represent qualities of the people, goals for life, gods, and many war themes. The first full body
painting arose in 1933 of a naked model in Chicago. Body painting spread out during the 1960 s when
hippies began the movement in the United States. It is important to clarify that body painting is not
just applied to nude bodies, but also can be applied to pieces of skin. Alexa Meade is a very skilful
artist and has a certain style and view of body painting herself. Alexa was born and raised in 1986 in
Washington, D.C. In 2009, Meade graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY majoring in
political science. Meade received her bachelor s degree, but never attended art school. Meade was
forced to teach herself how to paint, which started at the age of 15. When interviewed, Meade stated, I
didn t have to think of painting as this thing on canvas, because I didn t have any practice doing that. I
just saw paint as something that can be used in space. When just beginning, Meade s studio

Case Is Foss V. Harbottle
Q2
Foss v. Harbottle
In September 1835, Victoria Park Company was set up to establish a residential area to the east of
Wilmslow Road, an estate of substantial houses in spacious grounds. The prosperous business and
professional families could live there. Richard Foss and Edward Starkie were two minority
shareholders, and claimed that the property of the company had been misapplied and various
mortgages were given improperly over the company s property. During the general meeting, they said
that no action should be taken against them. At last, the Court dismissed and rejected the two
shareholders claim, and held that a breach of duty by the directors of the company was a wrong done
to the company for which it alone could sue. The first reason is because of the proper plaintiff rule is
that a wrong done to the company may be vindicated by the company alone where the corporation has
separate legal entity. The second reason is the majority rule principle , it states that if the alleged

Linda Chavez Racial Profiling
Everything isn t racial profiling was posted on Townhall January the ninth of 2002. This article was
told by Linda Chavez and cleared up on the subject of racial profiling, which is, still a thing today.
Chavez explains her story to us as, Racial profiling is an ugly business. In her essay, she argues the
circumstances of racial profiling and how it entails picking someone out for special scrutiny simply
because of his race. Chavez paints us a picture of real world examples and stories of her own, so that
we would be able to understand this ugly business . Repeatedly, she brings up airports and airlines as
an example, showing where it is brought up most. And finally, she informs the audience on why the
United States is more secured. Through the emotions of her journeys, the logical events that she talks
about, and the information she provides, Chavez informs her audience on why racial profiling is such
an ugly business. It is important to note that throughout the article, Linda Chavez tells many emotional
stories to prove to us on not only why racial profiling is an ugly business but also why places should
be more secured in today s society. In one of Chavez s story s she explain an incident when she was on
a trip from Israel in 1985, where she was an official government guest of the Israelis. She stood at the
Tel Aviv airport for almost an hour getting questioned by security agents. Chavez explained to them,

Galileo s ambition pushed him to go further, and in the fall of 1609 he made the fateful decision to
turn his telescope toward the heavens. Using his telescope to explore the universe, Galileo observed
the moon and found Venus had phases like the moon, proving it rotated around the sun, which refuted
the Aristotelian doctrine that the Earth was the center of the universe. He also discovered Jupiter had
revolving moons that didn t revolve around planet Earth. In 1613, he published his observations of
sunspots, which also refuted Aristotelian doctrine that the sun was perfect. Galileo s Books Galileo

Speech On Doping Games
The recent instances of doping involving Rio bound Indian athletes, shot putter Inderjit Singh and
wrestler Nar Singh Yadav, have shown that India is not far behind in the Doping Games , where the
Russians reign supreme now. Doping is an age old phenomenon in sports. And, the unpleasant truth is
that as long as sports exist, doping will also be there. In recent times, the doping menace has grown as
a monster engulfing all categories of athletes in competitive sports, starting form schools to
international games including Olympic champions. By definition, doping is the use of any substance
or method to artificially enhance sports performance. The sports governing bodies do not accept this
practice and have formed World Anti Doping Agency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The drug can also cause aggressive behaviour. Stimulants can cause irregular heartbeats and cardiac

what people believe, is a costly affair. It cost Rs 20,000 per test. Where will the money come from for
carrying out tests in large numbers? As a matter of fact, every athlete in a competition cannot be
subjected to doping tests. The tests are carried out normally in urine samples. For testing
erythropoietin and growth hormone blood sample is also collected from the athlete. The sample

What Makes A Good President
In order to have a successful and radiant country, we need to have a president that the United States
people will adore. The president is someone who makes all the important decision topics like school
funds, the military, and decide whether laws get put into motion. There are already certain
requirements that a president must be before becoming a candidate, for example, a president must be
at least thirty five years old and have been born in the US. I would want the president of the United
States to be a loyal, honest, and fair person to ever member of our country whether they are lower,
middle, or higher class.
One very important trait for the president is bravery. A brave president will be willing to fight for our
country when we are under attack from an enemy. If a country declares war on the US then our
president should be intelligent, brave, and have the right mind set on how to defeat the enemy. A
president will have countless times of disapproval from residents of our country; however, he/she
must be brave enough to stand tall about their idea that they feel is best for us and our future. ... Show

Critical thinking of The Grand Budapest Hotel and American Beauty
The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of the most spectacular films of the 21st century. The movie is
interesting and beautifully shot comedy directed by Wes Anderson. The Grand Budapest Hotel
consists of a prologue, five parts, and an epilogue. The film features many successful actors, but the
main story revolves around an interesting narration of Zero Moustafa (played by F Murray Abraham,
but embodied in younger years by Tony Revolori), who encounters the Author (starred by Tom
Wilkinson and Jude Law). Zero reveals the secret of how he became the owner of the Grand Budapest
s Hotel. The film draws attention to such themes as crime, love, the family revolts, prison breaks,
police action, and their possible consequences, thus transferring the audience into the world of the
characters and providing the lesson about moral values for life.
Foremost, it is important to single out the energetic character of Monsieur Gustave (played by Ralph
Fiennes), a concierge of the Grand Budapest s Hotel. Monsieur Gustave has mentored the lobby boy,
an orphan Zero. Thus, the concierge became a teacher and an advisor of a young boy with a refugee
past. Gustave saved Zero from police with the help of old acquaintance. On the other hand, the lobby
boy helps Gustave in his funny flee from prison. Zero sends him small hammers concealed inside the

Research Paper On Trench Warfare
Trench Warfare
Trench Warfare created a harsh and dangerous living environment for men. The trenches were under
continuous threat from shells or other dangerous weapons and there were also many health risks which
developed into larger problems for doctors. Apart from the unavoidable cold during the winters,
trenches were often completely waterlogged and muddy infested with lice and rats.
What is Trench Warfare?
Trench Warfare is a type of fighting where both sides build deep holes in the ground. These holes in
the ground are known as trenches. These deep trenches are used a defence against the enemy. These
trenches can stretch for many kilometres and they make it almost impossible for one side to move
closer or towards their opposition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a front line, also known as the Main Fire Trench, which faces the enemy. The front line
allows you to view over enemy lines. The front line is dug in different sections rather than being dug
in one straight line, so if a shell were to explode inside one of these sections, or any enemy were to get
into one of these sections, it would not affect the whole front line but just that particular section.
Behind the front line you get the support line. It is similarly made to the front line. In the support line
you would find dugouts that are cut into one side of the trench wall. These dugouts were often quite
small, having enough room for only three or four men to use as shelter. No man s land was the space
between the two opposing trenches. It had a large amount of barbed wire and it was a piece of
unoccupied land. No Man s land was heavily guarded by both sniper and machine gun fire and
soldiers were forced to cross this piece of land to look out for the enemies positions.
Life in the trenches:
Soldiers rotated through three stages of the front. They would spend time in the front line trenches, in
the support trenches, as well as some time in resting. The soldiers were always busy whether they
were repairing the trenches, on guard duty, moving supplies and equipment, undergoing inspections or
cleaning their weapons.

Chapter one was an introduction to his life. His mother went through a traumatizing time and his
father helped her get through it, and they eventually got married. They didn t care that they were so far
apart in age, they thought that it just brought them closer together. Once Frankenstein was born his
mother and father fell in love with him, his mother thought that he was essentially an angel sent from
heaven. For a while, they never had any other child except for him.
Later on in the chapter, it says that his mother wanted a daughter, but for some reason, he still
remained their only child. While he and his mother were off on a walk they passed a cottage for the
poor. She felt like she could relate to the young children since she was once an orphan herself. They

as online news with its timely and interactive content; however, its goal is not to deliver objective
facts but to rank information by how interesting it is. Many successful websites require an equal
balance of ethos, pathos, and logos to generate traffic. Reddit is unique in that its success comes
almost exclusively from its use of pathos to keep a loyal user base.
Reddit maintains a stronger pathos than ethos or logos because its content is controlled by its users

The Impact Of Humanism In The Renaissance
During the Renaissance, a program of study known as humanism, impacted education, art, politics,
and ultimately shaped the Italian Renaissance. Humanism is defined as a program of study designed
by Italians that emphasized the critical study of Latin and Greek literature with the goal of
understanding human nature. [1] Humanism changed people s views and allowed them to start
portraying people in a more realistic and relatable way. Many artists began to drift away from
religious subjects and instead, began to focus more on individuals and their lives. In addition,
humanism also allowed people to create new architecture that resembled classical constructions.
Humanism impacted many visual arts, which include Leonardo da Vinci s Mona Lisa, Michelangelo s
David, and Filippo Brunelleschi s Dome. The Mona Lisa was painted between 1503 and 1506 by
Leonardo da Vinci, and is one of the most famous paintings in the world today. The painting is a
portrait of Lisa Gherardini, and was painted for her husband, Francesco del Giocondo. Humanism has
impacted this portrait in various ways. Lisa s smile has been described to be so enigmatic [1] that
people are still trying to interpret the feelings behind her smile. The painting is greatly impacted by
humanism as it focuses on realism and relatability, allowing Lisa to be portrayed as an everyday
woman with the same flaws and impurities as anyone else. This differs from the Middle Ages as all
people used to be portrayed in such as

Effects Of Advertising On Obesity
Introduction In this paper analysis it is my intent to address the topic of television advertisement s
effects on the obesity of children. Does advertising to children raise their obesity rate? Or is there no
correlation at all? This is an important topic that should be addressed because children are susceptible
to many influences (the younger the children the more susceptible they are), one of the biggest
influences being mass media. Or more specifically, advertising. If television advertising does have an
effect on children obesity, the health of society s children is at risk.
As stated in an article written by the American Psychological Association (APA), The Impact of Food
Advertising On Childhood Obesity , half of the advertisements exposed to children are food
orientated. And, the majority of those food ads are advertising unhealthy products, Food ads on
television make up 50 percent of all the ad time on children s shows. These ads are almost completely
dominated by unhealthy food products (34 percent for candy and snacks, 28 percent for cereal, 10
percent for fast food, 4 percent for dairy products, 1 percent for fruit juices, and 0 percent for fruits or
vegetables). Children are rarely exposed to public service announcements or advertising for healthier
foods, (APA). By conducting studies on children roughly under the age of 16 and analyzing their
television watch time and weight (or more specifically their BMI scores), a possible causal
relationship could be

When America went through a period of media convergence with regard to technology, we were
essentially combining different types of mass media into one cohesive entity. Forty years ago, the
main forms of mass media used were the TV, radio, and newspapers. Now we have multiple forms of
media, the Internet is broadcasting radio programming, newspaper articles can be found on the
Internet, and commercials that give no other information besides the address of a website. With the
improvements of an average cell phone, we have been given the gift of the smartphone. With one

The Impact Of Technology On The Workforce
The advancement of technology has impacted many areas of life, especially the workforce. Advances
in technology, such as the development of the robot, have started to have a significant impact on the
individual worker. These workers come from many different areas of life, some including
manufacturing, service, and jobs that do not require much education. For example, manufacturing jobs
have been impacted by the robot because the robot is able to perform manufacturing skills at an easier
and faster rate than humans. Jobs that also do not require extensive education will be impacted
because robots will be able to replace these humans since it does not take a lot of expertise to fulfill
these particular jobs. The interaction with robots is also an area addressed in the paper.
Communication with other humans will be affected because people will be dealing with robots more
at your local stores or your local movie theaters. Humans will be associated more with technology and
less with human interaction. In addition to these ideas, the future of workers is addressed in this paper.
Even though there will be a loss of jobs and a declining economy because of the increase in robots
may at first not seem beneficial, it will all work out in the end. The loss of jobs will create more jobs
since robots will be doing their jobs at a faster rate, creating more of a demand for other jobs to
perform their jobs faster. Humans will have to be recruited for these jobs to keep up with the demand

Similarities Between Zoroastrianism And Modern Day...
Zoroastrianism is considered one of the worlds oldest monotheistic religions. There are many
similarities between Zoroastrianism and modern day Christianity. The first being that Christianity is a
monotheistic religion as well. Both religions are founded on the basis that there is only one God and
that god created the world, and is omnipresent. Both religions teach their followers to believe that God
is infinite and omnipotent. While followers of Zoroastrianism exalt Ahura Mazda, the deity of
wisdom, followers of Christianity follow Jesus Christ. Both religions also appeal to their followers
sense of humanity by implementing the concepts of heaven and hell as well as giving their followers
the ability to choose between the two options depending on their behavior. In both religions since
followers are giving the option of heaven and hell they both set moral and ethical standards for their
followers and hold them accountable for the decisions they make. The Bible makes reference to this
concept on several occasions including in Deuteronomy 30:19 which states today I set before you the
way of life and the way of death, therefore choose life . Zoroastrianism appears to have been more
lenient in terms of holding its followers accountable for sin and attributes sin to more of an individuals
lack of understanding either themselves or Ahura Mazda. Both Christianity and Zoroastrianism view
death as a beginning or renewal of the soul. The themes of God s judgment for the choices made,

racial profiling and unconstitutional stop and frisks of New York City residents.
Judge Scheindlin was the federal judge ruled that the stop and frisk tactics of the New York Police

the Bloomberg administration s crime fighting legacy.
The judge found that for much of the last decade, patrol officers had stopped innocent people without
any objective reason to suspect them of wrongdoing. But her criticism went beyond the conduct of
police officers. Blacks are likely targeted for stops based on a lesser degree of objectively founded

Lucretius Creation
There s not a definite explaining as to who, what, when, where, and how everything in this world was
created. One of the greatest creation questions is how or who created humankind. According to many
religious writings, God was the one that created everything, from the universe down to every cell in
our body. According to the Bible, God was the one who created human and everything else. However,
in the section, Creation and the Cosmos , some texts contradict with this idea that God created all
things. One pre Socratic, Thales of Miletus, an early Greek scientific thinker, argues that the world is

A New Optimization Technique And The Foraging Strategy Of...
In 2002, a new optimization technique was proposed by Passino which is inspired by the foraging
strategy of Escherichia Coli (E. Coli) bacteria present in human intestines called Bacteria Foraging
Optimization Algorithm (BFOA) [1]. It is a population based stochastic search algorithm that has been
introduced to solve the problem related to optimization and control system. Since its inception, BFOA
successfully has drawn the attention of many researchers from diverse fields to exploit its performance
as a high performance optimizer and has been successfully applied in real world applications such as

By sending the signal, it enables an individual bacterium to communicate with others. Healthy
bacteria will be reproduced and poor foraging bacteria will be eliminated. The bacteria will keep
repeating these processes in their lifetime.
In BFOA, each of the individual bacteria in the search space is representing an individual solution to
the optimization problem [6]. Each bacterium will undergo chemotactic steps to the direction of
minimum fitness function (rich in nutrients). During the taxis, each bacterium will communicate with
other to swarm in the group toward the global optimum. Bacteria will be evaluated again according to
their health and sorted in ascending order. Half of them with better health will be reproduced by
splitting into two and the other half of poor health bacteria will be eliminated from the search space. In
order to explore more space, some of the bacteria will be eliminated and reinitialized randomly to
explore unvisited space in order to find the global minimum or maximum point. For better
understanding, this algorithm mechanism will be explained in solving an optimization problem.
In optimization problem that we need to find the minimum of J(θ), θ ∈ ℜp, where we do not have
measurements or an analytical description of the gradient ∇J(θ). This problem is considered as a non
gradient optimization problem. BFOA does not rely on the gradient function to operate but use
concentration of location of search space as the fitness function. Let θ be

The Diversity Of Soil Invertebrates
Introduction: The diversity of soil invertebrates is very important to our ecosystem, because most soil
invertebrates are responsible for key soil processes such as nutrient recycling, nutrient retention,
formation of soil structure, and decomposition rates. Invertebrates are one of the most dominant
groups of animals in the world. Recent studies show that animals may constitute as much as 23% of
the total diversity of living organisms (Lavelle et al., 2006).
Common soil invertebrates include arthropods and nematodes. These soil invertebrates provide major
ecosystem services. For example, ants, dung beetles, ground beetles, earthworms, and slugs aid in
seed dispersal, which is important because seed dispersal is known to affect food production and
nutrient recycling as well as decomposition rates. Bees, butterflies, moths, and ants aid in pollination.
These invertebrates are very important because about three fourths of all plants are pollinator
dependent and insects tend to provide most of the animal pollination globally. Without pollinators
plant species would be more susceptible to extinction. In agricultural systems, invertebrate pollinators
are responsible for the successful production of vegetables and fruits that maintain livestock
production. Nematodes, annelids, and arthropods aid in decomposition (Prather et al., 2012)

Continuities In The Commerce Of The Indian Ocean
From 650 CE to 1750 CE, there were many changes and continuities in the commerce of the Indian
Ocean region. One major continuity in the commerce of the Indian Ocean was the emergence and use
of the same trade routes for both imports and exports of goods such as gold and ivory. One major
change was how the commerce of the Indian Ocean prospered economically. The commerce of the
Indian Ocean developed rapidly, and the trade incorporated places such as East Africa, the Persian
Gulf, Red Sea and India. Another major change was the increased involvement of the Europeans in the
Indian Ocean commerce shortly after discovering it.
One major continuity in the commerce of the Indian Ocean was the continued use of the same trade
routes and ports in the Indian Ocean for imports and exports. Trading ports in East Africa served as a
method of transporting goods from Africa. The goods being traded was another continuity. Gold,
ivory, and iron were constantly being exported from Africa due to their profitable values. These items
could be sold at a profit because they were scarce in Asian countries. Another continuity was the
tradition in the use of monsoon winds to help travel. The Indian Ocean trade was made easier by the
monsoon winds that circulated between Asia and the Eastern coast which reduced travel times, and
produced favorable wind currents.
However, there were also many changes in the commerce of the Indian Ocean. The commerce of the

Since my father is a sheriff s deputy, it was easy for me to gain clearance to sit in the jury s box and to
watch criminal plea charges. The process I observed was startling because I did not imagine that, in
one morning, a single courtroom could go through almost five pages of client sentences
(approximately forty clients). In addition, I gained a better understanding of how courts operate
without the presence of a jury. Still, I was confused; What is the purpose of the judicial center? Who
else is involved? Are charges fairly made?
It was 7:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016. I woke up, took a cold shower, put on my formal
attire, and then left with my father to go to the judicial center at the McDonough Square. By 8:00 a.m.,
my father introduced me to the sheriff deputies that had scanned me into the building. Officer Thomas
Palmer, also called Tiny, acted as my tour

Who Is Tom Jad A Good Character In The Grapes Of Wrath
(Your favorite character in the film Grapes of Wrath and why.)
In every movie or film or book, the reader unconsciously develops strong feeling for one of the
individual character. The reasons they may like them may be personal, or it may just be because they
heard that other person like him or her first. In the film Grapes of Wrath, there are many respectable
character in the plot line. While all of the characters may stand out to individual people, there is one
character everyone watching the film would want to be. It is clear that the main character in the film is
the best. Tom Joad is the best character in the film for many reasons such as: he is a loving family
member, he is a hard worker, and he also tries to the the right thing always. ... Show more content on

In the beginning of the film, the first thing that he does when he gets out of jail, is he goes to find his
family. And after he realizes they have left his home, he goes out to find them. While some people
would have gone and never come back to start a new life somewhere else. People can also see that he
is a loving and caring person by the way his family reacts when they see him for the first time since he
got out of jail. His little siblings are overjoyed and everyone crowds him. He is obviously a well liked
person to be around in his family, and any watcher could see that he is a loyal companion.
Another reason Tom Joad is the best character in Grapes of Wrath is because he is one of the hardest
workers in the film. When he gets out of jail, he works his hardest to find his family, even though he
has no idea where they are. He travels everywhere just to find them. Also when they get to Cali, he
finds them work, and he would have done anything to keep his family going by trying to work harder.
Even when he sneaks out at night, he goes off the try to help other people and that shows how hard he
is willing to work, even if it might get him into

Examine the Advantages and Disadvantages for China of...
Question: Examine the advantages and disadvantages for China of harmonization of accounting
standards under the current economic and social system. With the development of economic
globalization and capital markets, accounting standards based on a national system cannot satisfy the
needs of users whose decisions are increasingly international. Therefore harmonization of accounting
standards has become an inevitable choice for many countries. The Chinese government has
introduced four sets of accounting standards and efforts continue to be made to bring its domestic
accounting standards in line with international accounting standards, as a result of which numerous
benefits have been brought about by the harmonization of accounting ... Show more content on

A large amount of material, money and human resources have to be devoted in the process of
institutional change and adaptation. For example, according to China Accounting Standards
Committee (n.d.), in March 2003, the Committee hired 160 consultants in order to assist its
institutional change. Given that there are about 12 million accountants in China (Ren 2009), if each
one spends at least ¥1 on the retraining to adapt to the harmonizing accounting standards, the total
amount of training costs would be ¥12 million. Though some costs of institutional change and
adaptation can be reflected by figures, most of these costs are behind the scenes, so cannot be
calculated. Adapting harmonizing accounting standards is neither an easy nor a rapid procedure. For
instance, during the adaptation period, accountants would make some mistakes or spend a long time
learning those accounting standards, which cannot be measured and would influence performance of
harmonization of accounting standards. Tang (2000) claims that some managers even felt that the cost
of preparation and audit overweighed its advantages in the initial stage of implementation. The second
potential disadvantage of harmonization of accounting standards is chaotic management for
enterprises in China. As China is in a transitional period from a centrally planned economy to a market
economy, economic system has an impact on accounting and accordingly

The Character of Ophelia Essay
The Character of Ophelia
In Shakespeare s tragedies, the characters all have flaws that eventually lead to their undoing. In the
play Hamlet, the character of Ophelia is ultimately killed by her flaw.
It is apparent that Ophelia is an obedient person but, upon closer inspection, the audience can see that
she is not merely obedient. Ophelia s thoughts and actions go beyond obedience to show that she is a
weak and entirely dependent character. Nothing that she says or does is a representation of herself but
mostly that of her father. Ophelia s cruel actions towards Hamlet, which go against her feelings for
him, demonstrate her obedience to her father. In the beginning of the play, Ophelia tells her father that

Ophelia s obedience and weakness as a character can be traced to her complete dependence on other
people. Her dependence on others is evident in the very beginning:
I do not know, my lord, what I should think. POL: Marry, I will teach you. Think yourself a baby...
(act 1, scene 3). This shows how Ophelia depends on her father to determine what she should think
and feel. Ophelia s complete dependence, or lack of independence, is what leads to her demise. Still,
Ophelia s dependence on others was not entirely her fault. It could have been caused by her father and
brother s protection over her. Polonius and Laertes were always there for Ophelia, whether she needed
it or not, causing her to develop a major character flaw. Her flaw was her complete dependence on
others, which can also be shown through her obedience and overall weakness as a character. Ophelia s
dependence on others is, sadly, what lead to her death. She could not cope with the events in her life
because she was so adapted to being told how to think and act that she went mad. When she was
forced to take care of herself, she could not handle it and ended up committing suicide to keep from
facing her problems

North Carolina Case Study
North Carolina is one of the fastest growing states within the United States. There are many factors
that contribute to making North Carolina attractive to people all across the world, including
affordability, strong housing market, quality of life, and global access. First time home buyers who are
eying real estate in North Carolina should consider Durham real estate as a place to purchase their new
home.
Why Consider Durham, North Carolina?
Durham is one of the major cities in the Piedmont of North Carolina that constitutes the Research
Triangle. The Research Triangle is home to many Fortune 500 companies that are high tech or
research based. As a result of easy access to jobs, residents within Durham have incomes that are
higher than the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Affordability is a critical factor to consider when it comes to purchasing a home for the first time.
With a strong job market, a first time home buyer can rest assured that the chances of them keeping
their homes without defaulting on the loan is high. In particular, foreclosure rates have remained the
same in Durham compared to last year, at only one percent. With average home prices increasing and
more people coming to Durham, an unchanged foreclosure rate speaks to the strength of Durham s
economy.
Homes Continue to Appreciate
Another reason the Durham real estate market is so attractive to potential homeowners is the fact that
they can watch their investment grown in no time. Home appreciations within the area have been
impressive for a few years, and homeowners continue to reap the rewards. As a result, the number of
closed sales continues to increase. Over 250 homes were sold in the month of November in Durham
County, an increase of two percent overall. In the same time span, a neighboring county and home of
the capital city Raleigh realized a drop in home closes of over two percent.
Interest Rates Are Expected to Increase within Three

The Character of Cholly in The Bluest Eye
The Character of Cholly in The Bluest Eye
Morrison has divided her portrayal of a fictional town of blacks, which suffers from alienation and
subjugation, into four seasons. I believe that her underlying message is to illustrate the reality of life s
travails: the certain rhythms of blessings and tragedies. Some blacks understand and acccept this
philosophy and Morrison s use of the seasons portrays and echoes the bible verse, To every thing there
is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ec. 3.1). Perhaps this is a fatalistic
approach or as Darrow says,
Man is the product of heredity and environment and that he acts as his machine responds to outside
stimuli and nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted (Ec. 3.
2). Cholly was four days old when his Mother planted him on top of a junk heap. His great Aunt
Jimmy plucked him out and took him home to rear. She loved him and he had a sense of belonging to
a family, but he asked her, Who was my father? Where does he live? He had a name and place now,
and who knew, maybe he could find his Dad: that became his dream.
Cholly quit school at a young age and went to work in the local feed store. There he met a man called
old Blue Jack. During some of his darkest days, Cholly s memories of riding in the wagon, listening to
stories, eating watermelon with old Blue Jack covered him with a warm blanket of love. He knew that
another human being had loved him. He also remembered the love his family showered on him. At the
time of Aunt Jimmy s funeral, his aunts and uncles cared for him. They treated him as the child he
was. They saw that all his needs were met but more than that they treated him with tenderness and
love. It was after the funeral that the bad times began.
A time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance (Ec. 3. 4). Cholly began his
growth to manhood on

laws or regulations. More importantly, I have gained knowledge about the leadership qualities and its
skills that is mandatory as a good leader. Although, the advocacy campaigns presentations
significantly motivate me about how to work effectively and actively within a team as a leader and
how to guide the team members and provide the directions for the advocacy campaigns. Besides this, I
will talk more about the professor Jo Lind lecture related to reflection activity and Ms. Alexandra
Bhatti lecture about public health advocacy from these two parts of the health leadership I have
learned a number of things and enhanced my understanding about leadership. Initially, I improved my
learning from Professor Lind assessment in which I have learned that reflection is important for
quality, accountable practice and essential for ongoing professional learning. In addition, I have
learned more about the complex adaptive system while doing reflection activity in terms of difficult
systems and how these systems may handle in difficult situations. I personally recognize that the
complex system knowledge is mandatory for learning the health and disease and for managing the

The Chimera of Ethnic Humour
Humour has always had the ability as long as anyone can remember to bring people together and unify
them to become closer and better acquainted. As humour developed over time different categories of
humour appeared. Ethnic humour is one of the categories that was created decades ago and continues
to be widely used in present day comedy. The concept of ethnic, racial, and gender humour is as
sensitive a subject today as it has ever been; and yet there has never been such a prolific quantity of
this humour as there is in current day society. It manifests in American culture s films and stand up
comedy routines, as well as on popular TV sitcoms. Ethnic humour is one of the only types of humour
that can bring laughter and joy to people while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience for this annihilated single system with N incongruity (Davis 28). The joke sets up a
system of the debate on abortion throughout the world. The unexpected and an incongruity then occur
with unnatural responses and the system is broken and this is what triggers the laughter. The style and
way the joke is set up can closely be compared to many other categories of jokes. But what sets ethnic
jokes apart is how the system it creates makes a person think of an ethnic group, then commonly has a
play on that ethnic cultures common stereo types which are often very biased and racist. Furthermore,
another way that this joke can be analyzed and viewed is through Lois Leveen s perspective. Leveen
points out, That if the teller and the audience of the joke are non Jewish the joke has a sense of
prejudice and is hyper critical. However, if the teller and audience of the joke were Jewish, the joke
would then be comprehended in a different light. The Jewish would take the joke from someone
within their group and enjoy it because of a sense of pride, connecting Jewish life to elevated
expectancy they would be happy to be known for (Qtd. In Rapport. The Sword 1). This analysis that
Leveen gives sheds light on how it is feasible for ethnic jokes to have many different meanings;
depending on the content, teller and audience of the joke. Thus creating humour from one

Centromere attachment to the spindle fibers during cell division Telomere are the caps at each end of each strand of DNA that protect our chromosomes. Origins of replication replication is initiated 2. Identify the four different types of chromosomes based on the position of the centromere. Metacentric, Submetacentric, Acrocentric, and telocentric 3. Name the stages of the cell cycle and explain what happens in each stage. Anaphase 2 The sister chromatids that are individual chromosomes move away from each other and move to the opposite end of the cell. Telophase 2 This is where the process ends and meiosis is complete. A nuclear envelope forms around each set of chromosomes and then cytokinesis occurs, four daughter cells are then produced with a haploid set of chromosomes. 6. Why does meiosis lead to significant genetic variation while mitosis does not? Meiosis is a process of cell division where a diploid cell becomes four haploid cells resembling mitosis but the chromosomes are duplicated once in which gametocytes form gametes. They occur in genetic information in variation of female and male gametes. In Mitosis the nuclei of the diploid cells reproduce after chromosomes duplicate in four stages with two diploid cells formed with identical set of chromosomes with the cytoplasm, it also divides with the cells and they occur in somatic cells. 7. • 3. Nervous System Analysis As we do simple actions in our life we start to do them so often that we don t even realize how and when we are doing them. For example when we get ready to ride a bike we just get on the bike and go, because we have done it so many times that it just comes naturally to us. Another example is watching a scary movie and putting popcorn in our mouth at the same time. Well it is our nervous system that helps us to do these simple actions because it handles information. When our phone rings there are a number of functions that go on in our brain. The first thing would be our neurons in the auditory cortex which picks up the sound of the ringing phone, neuron functions are then going to relay the information to higher areas to process what s going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They supply nourishment to neurons, help remove neurons waste products, and provide insulation around many axons. The primary role is to shield synapses from the chatter of surrounding neuronal activity, enhancing the signal to noise ratio in the nervous system. The Neural Impulse uses energy to send information. The resting potential of a neuron is its stable, negative charge when the cell is inactive An action potential is a very brief shift in a neurons electrical charge that travels along the axon. After firing the action potential the channels in the cell membrane that opened now close up. Some time is needed before they are ready to open and fire again. The absolute refractory period is the minimum length of time after an action potential, during which another action potential cannot begin. Special junctions called synapses which depend on chemical messengers. A synaptic cleft is a microscopic gap between the terminal button of 1 neuron and the cell membrane of another neuron. The neuron that sends a signal across the gap is called the presynaptic neuron, and the neuron that receives the signal is called the postsynaptic neuron. The arrival of an action potential at an axon s terminal buttons triggers the release of neurotransmitters chemicals that transmit information from 1 neuron to another. Most of these chemicals are stored in small sacs called synaptic vesicles. Receptor sites are tuned to recognize and respond to some neurotransmitters but not to others. When a neurotransmitter and a receptor molecule combine, reactions in the cell membrane cause a postsynaptic potential, a voltage change at a receptor site on a postsynaptic cell membrane. They are graded which means that they vary in size and that they increase or decrease the probability of a neural impulse in the receiving cell in proportion to the amount of voltage change. Free Will In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden It seems that as a race, humans are entangled in the never ending battle between edacity and altruism, repeating the same mistakes and duplicating the poor decisions of those before them until they are empowered enough to believe in their own free will. It is this free will and ability to triumph that is known to us as timshel, which is one of the more central ideas about men and sin that the Steinbeck novel East of Eden embodies. It is by far the most conspicuous and pronounced of any of the arguments Steinbeck makes, and this can be attributed to its timeless relevancy. This is a parallel to Adam s clouded vision of Cathy. Aron refuses to accept anything but an idealized story for himself and and is therefore unable to embrace the reality of life, which explains his grief at Stanford considering that What he had expected to find at the university had been vague and beautiful. His picture―never really inspected―had been of clean eyed young men and immaculate women... (520). What he actually finds is reality, which isn t atrocious, but compared to Aron s rendition of life, the situation disappoints, leaving him with a feeling of dissatisfaction despite the amount of love he receives. Aron is perpetually frustrated with his father for the same reason. When the absence of a mother does not live up to his vision of a family, he blames his father for this, regardless of how much love Adam proffers. He continually tries to fill this void by creating an idealized perception of a mother, and using Abra to substitute as the ideal woman he has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even now, in times when a social conscience is present in most individuals, in an era where an atmosphere of gender equality supposedly exists, it is blatantly apparent that the objectification and marginalization of women is still a major social issue. In reality, progression in terms of reducing female exploitation has been stagnant at best. Not only is the degradation of women a major problem that to date has not been eradicated, but it is actually being endorsed by some music celebrities. These images serve as a grim reminder that women are being exploited as sexual objects through rap videos. Therefore, the objectification of women through the means of rap music is a major influence in the exploitation of women. In addition to the actualization of women, rap also promotes extreme violence and abuse towards women. Besides the ?mild? abuse the vast majority of rappers perpetually depict, some rappers display a loathing so deep it can only be classified as misogyny. In the song ??97 Bonnie and Clyde,? by Eminem, he says ? There goes mama, splashing in the water. No more fighting with dad, no more restraining order. Blow her kisses bye bye, tell mommy you love her? (Bonnie). In a sinister fashion, the song goes on to describe how he murdered and disposed of his ex wife with the assistance of his three year old daughter. Here the violence towards women crosses generations and involves the traumatic use and abuse of a three year old girl. It promotes that violence, even toward our most vulnerable, is acceptable if they are female. Undeniably, the hip hop culture?s perverse attitude towards the treatment of women has gradually been accepted by society. It seems society has been desensitized to the violence of rap by ... There are many different parts to the brain which make it a whole according to science, so thinking about the brain from a philosophical standpoint, there must be different parts to make up the minds identity. According to John Perry, the memories and personality traits as well as beliefs and intellectual skills make up a personal identity and the body is just a vessel that holds this identity (TP, 197). Given this perspective Tommy would have to remain with Vladek because he is technically still legally and genetically his son. The legality of this situation would be especially complicated because there is hypothetically two boys in one. • 16. Taking a Look at Body Art Research Assignment (Body Art) Body painting is a certain form of art that continued with humans through the ancient times to the modern day times, where artists use the human body as canvasses to show beauty like no other style of artwork can. African, European, Asia, and Australian tribes have shown records that body painting was used. The tribes were using pigments from plant leaves and fruits to decorate themselves because body art was an important part of their lives. Body art would represent qualities of the people, goals for life, gods, and many war themes. The first full body painting arose in 1933 of a naked model in Chicago. Body painting spread out during the 1960 s when hippies began the movement in the United States. It is important to clarify that body painting is not just applied to nude bodies, but also can be applied to pieces of skin. Alexa Meade is a very skilful artist and has a certain style and view of body painting herself. Alexa was born and raised in 1986 in Washington, D.C. In 2009, Meade graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY majoring in political science. Meade received her bachelor s degree, but never attended art school. Meade was forced to teach herself how to paint, which started at the age of 15. • 19. Case Is Foss V. Harbottle Q2 Foss v. Harbottle In September 1835, Victoria Park Company was set up to establish a residential area to the east of Wilmslow Road, an estate of substantial houses in spacious grounds. The prosperous business and professional families could live there. Richard Foss and Edward Starkie were two minority shareholders, and claimed that the property of the company had been misapplied and various mortgages were given improperly over the company s property. During the general meeting, they said that no action should be taken against them. At last, the Court dismissed and rejected the two shareholders claim, and held that a breach of duty by the directors of the company was a wrong done to the company for which it alone could sue. The first reason is because of the proper plaintiff rule is that a wrong done to the company may be vindicated by the company alone where the corporation has separate legal entity. The second reason is the majority rule principle , it states that if the alleged wrong can be confirmed or ratified by a simple majority of members in a general meeting, then the court will not interfere, cadit ... This is an important topic that should be addressed because children are susceptible to many influences (the younger the children the more susceptible they are), one of the biggest influences being mass media. Or more specifically, advertising. If television advertising does have an effect on children obesity, the health of society s children is at risk. There are many similarities between Zoroastrianism and modern day Christianity. The first being that Christianity is a monotheistic religion as well. Both religions are founded on the basis that there is only one God and that god created the world, and is omnipresent. Both religions teach their followers to believe that God is infinite and omnipotent. While followers of Zoroastrianism exalt Ahura Mazda, the deity of wisdom, followers of Christianity follow Jesus Christ. Both religions also appeal to their followers sense of humanity by implementing the concepts of heaven and hell as well as giving their followers the ability to choose between the two options depending on their behavior. In both religions since followers are giving the option of heaven and hell they both set moral and ethical standards for their followers and hold them accountable for the decisions they make. The Bible makes reference to this concept on several occasions including in Deuteronomy 30:19 which states today I set before you the way of life and the way of death, therefore choose life . Each bacterium will undergo chemotactic steps to the direction of minimum fitness function (rich in nutrients). Recent studies show that animals may constitute as much as 23% of the total diversity of living organisms (Lavelle et al., 2006). Common soil invertebrates include arthropods and nematodes. These soil invertebrates provide major ecosystem services. For example, ants, dung beetles, ground beetles, earthworms, and slugs aid in seed dispersal, which is important because seed dispersal is known to affect food production and nutrient recycling as well as decomposition rates. Bees, butterflies, moths, and ants aid in pollination. These invertebrates are very important because about three fourths of all plants are pollinator dependent and insects tend to provide most of the animal pollination globally. Without pollinators plant species would be more susceptible to extinction. In agricultural systems, invertebrate pollinators are responsible for the successful production of vegetables and fruits that maintain livestock production. Nematodes, annelids, and arthropods aid in decomposition (Prather et al., 2012) Materials and Methods: The experiment began with the construction of a Berlese funnel, which is an apparatus used to extract ... Indian Removal Dbq Politics, race, and medicine were all important factors during the Indian Removal of 1830, as they had convinced the people of the United States that removing the Natives from their land was the right step for the nation. Presidents Jefferson and Jackson main goals were to either force the Natives to migrate further away or to force them to assimilate to western culture. Politics has always and will always play a large role in how the United States interacts with other cultures. One major continuity in the commerce of the Indian Ocean was the emergence and use of the same trade routes for both imports and exports of goods such as gold and ivory. One major change was how the commerce of the Indian Ocean prospered economically. The commerce of the Indian Ocean developed rapidly, and the trade incorporated places such as East Africa, the Persian Gulf, Red Sea and India. Another major change was the increased involvement of the Europeans in the Indian Ocean commerce shortly after discovering it. One major continuity in the commerce of the Indian Ocean was the continued use of the same trade routes and ports in the Indian Ocean for imports and exports. Trading ports in East Africa served as a method of transporting goods from Africa. The goods being traded was another continuity. Gold, ivory, and iron were constantly being exported from Africa due to their profitable values. These items could be sold at a profit because they were scarce in Asian countries. Another continuity was the tradition in the use of monsoon winds to help travel. The Indian Ocean trade was made easier by the monsoon winds that circulated between Asia and the Eastern coast which reduced travel times, and produced favorable wind currents. However, there were also many changes in the commerce of the Indian Ocean. The commerce of the Indian Ocean changed the eastern coast of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Importance Of A Civic Engagement Opportunity As A... The Civic Engagement assignment illustrates the value of incorporating a civic engagement opportunity as a supplement to traditional lecture and reading materials. While this assignment differs from service learning, the civic learning that takes place during the semester leads to the development of knowledge, skills, and community contacts that are necessary for active citizenship. As described throughout this paper, despite the passive sounding title of courtroom observation, this assignment requires significant interaction and engagement with court personnel to be completed successfully. Since my father is a sheriff s deputy, it was easy for me to gain clearance to sit in the jury s box and to watch criminal plea charges. The process I observed was startling because I did not imagine that, in one morning, a single courtroom could go through almost five pages of client sentences (approximately forty clients). In addition, I gained a better understanding of how courts operate without the presence of a jury. Still, I was confused; What is the purpose of the judicial center? Who else is involved? Are charges fairly made? It was 7:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016. I woke up, took a cold shower, put on my formal attire, and then left with my father to go to the judicial center at the McDonough Square. By 8:00 a.m., my father introduced me to the sheriff deputies that had scanned me into the building. Officer Thomas Palmer, also called Tiny, acted as my tour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Question: Examine the advantages and disadvantages for China of harmonization of accounting standards under the current economic and social system. With the development of economic globalization and capital markets, accounting standards based on a national system cannot satisfy the needs of users whose decisions are increasingly international. Therefore harmonization of accounting standards has become an inevitable choice for many countries. The Chinese government has introduced four sets of accounting standards and efforts continue to be made to bring its domestic accounting standards in line with international accounting standards, as a result of which numerous benefits have been brought about by the harmonization of accounting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A large amount of material, money and human resources have to be devoted in the process of institutional change and adaptation. For example, according to China Accounting Standards Committee (n.d.), in March 2003, the Committee hired 160 consultants in order to assist its institutional change. Given that there are about 12 million accountants in China (Ren 2009), if each one spends at least ¥1 on the retraining to adapt to the harmonizing accounting standards, the total amount of training costs would be ¥12 million. Though some costs of institutional change and adaptation can be reflected by figures, most of these costs are behind the scenes, so cannot be calculated. Adapting harmonizing accounting standards is neither an easy nor a rapid procedure. For instance, during the adaptation period, accountants would make some mistakes or spend a long time learning those accounting standards, which cannot be measured and would influence performance of harmonization of accounting standards. Tang (2000) claims that some managers even felt that the cost of preparation and audit overweighed its advantages in the initial stage of implementation. The second potential disadvantage of harmonization of accounting standards is chaotic management for enterprises in China. As China is in a transitional period from a centrally planned economy to a market economy, economic system has an impact on accounting and accordingly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Character of Ophelia Essay The Character of Ophelia In Shakespeare s tragedies, the characters all have flaws that eventually lead to their undoing. In the play Hamlet, the character of Ophelia is ultimately killed by her flaw. It is apparent that Ophelia is an obedient person but, upon closer inspection, the audience can see that she is not merely obedient. Ophelia s thoughts and actions go beyond obedience to show that she is a weak and entirely dependent character. Nothing that she says or does is a representation of herself but mostly that of her father. Ophelia s cruel actions towards Hamlet, which go against her feelings for him, demonstrate her obedience to her father. In the beginning of the play, Ophelia tells her father that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ophelia s obedience and weakness as a character can be traced to her complete dependence on other people. Her dependence on others is evident in the very beginning: I do not know, my lord, what I should think. POL: Marry, I will teach you. Think yourself a baby... (act 1, scene 3). This shows how Ophelia depends on her father to determine what she should think and feel. Ophelia s complete dependence, or lack of independence, is what leads to her demise. Still, Ophelia s dependence on others was not entirely her fault. It could have been caused by her father and brother s protection over her. Polonius and Laertes were always there for Ophelia, whether she needed it or not, causing her to develop a major character flaw. Her flaw was her complete dependence on others, which can also be shown through her obedience and overall weakness as a character. Ophelia s dependence on others is, sadly, what lead to her death. She could not cope with the events in her life because she was so adapted to being told how to think and act that she went mad. When she was forced to take care of herself, she could not handle it and ended up committing suicide to keep from facing her problems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe that her underlying message is to illustrate the reality of life s travails: the certain rhythms of blessings and tragedies. Some blacks understand and acccept this philosophy and Morrison s use of the seasons portrays and echoes the bible verse, To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ec. 3.1). Leveen points out, That if the teller and the audience of the joke are non Jewish the joke has a sense of prejudice and is hyper critical. However, if the teller and audience of the joke were Jewish, the joke would then be comprehended in a different light. The Jewish would take the joke from someone within their group and enjoy it because of a sense of pride, connecting Jewish life to elevated expectancy they would be happy to be known for (Qtd.
