Morality And Ethics Of The Auschwitz And Art Spiegelman s...
Morality is adaptable in extreme situations. The Holocaust is an example of what happens to one s
morality when forced to adapt to animalistic behavior in order to survive. Life in Auschwitz
required a purging of one s human dignity for survival. Prisoners were constantly exposed to
perpetual dehumanization, which inevitably led to the dehumanization, and restoration of one s
mental, physical, and social adaptation. Because of this, one s morality begins to erase. It is in the
adaptation of living in a merciless world that the line separating right and wrong begins to blur.
Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz and Art Spiegelmans Maus, both represent how morality and
ethicsare challenged in the means of survival.
Man is bound to pursue his own ends by all possible means, while he who errs but once pays
dearly. (Levi 1.3). In one short sentence, Levi sums up the situation: its human nature to use any
means necessary to survive. And that s exactly what happens in the camp. There are many in the
camps who are not able to cope with its horrible circumstances. Unfortunately, those who are unable
to cope result in animalistic behavior. When being exposed to inhumane conditions, one begins to
act inhumane. Null is an example of one who regresses into an unconscious state of being. Levi
presents Null as an example of one who has resulted in doing anything and everything to survive.
Levi recounts, when he speaks, when he looks around, he gives the impression of being empty

Glaucoma Essay
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of eye disorders that cause blindness by hurting the optic nerve, which is the
large nerve that is responsible for vision. In glaucoma, the optic nerve damage is related to a
change in the fluid pressure that circulates around the eyeball. In many cases, Glaucoma occurs
when the eye s fluid pressure is high, but it can also occur when the pressure is measured as normal.
Fluid circulating inside the front portion of the eye is produced by a structure called the ciliary
body, which is located behind the iris. This fluid moves through the opening of the pupil, passes
into the space between the iris and the cornea, and drains out of the eye through a tissue called the
angle. With glaucoma, the passing of fluid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prevention
Right now, although there is no way to prevent glaucoma, there are many successful treatments
available to prevent the blindness caused by glaucoma. Because the gradual vision loss of chronic
glaucoma may not be noticed until it is too late, regular eye examinations, dilated exams of the
optic nerve, and screening tests of the visual field are essential for all persons aged 40 and older,
especially is your family has a history of glaucoma.
Treatment
Treatment of open angle glaucoma usually begins with prescription eyedrops. These eyedrops
lower pressure inside the eyeball, either by causing the eye to produce less fluid or by helping
fluid to drain more. As an alternative to medication or when medication does not control
glaucoma, laser surgery can be done. This surgery, also called laser trabeculoplasty, uses a laser
to make the openings in the eye s drainage network larger. If medication and laser surgery are
unsuccessful, conventional eye surgery may be necessary to make a new opening for fluid to leave
the eye.
Acute glaucoma must be treated early to prevent loss of vision. Treatment usually begins with laser
treatment to make a new opening in the iris that allows the angle to open. This is often restores
vision, but in some eyes it is necessary to use eyedrops long term. Surgical treatment

Mark Twain s The San Francisco Earthquake
San Francisco is a historic city on the coast of California. It is known throughout history for
experiencing many earthquakes, as it sits next to the San Andreas fault which runs up and down the
state. The city becomes the setting for Mark Twain s narrative essay, The San Francisco Earthquake
which recounts the events of an earthquakeknown as the great earthquake. In the ensuing disaster,
Twain does not direct his focus on the destruction of the cityas much as he does on the people s
reactions. Through his writing, Twain wants to show that when faced with terror, people will resort
to mindless and silly behavior.
Twain begins his essay by saying, I enjoyed my first earthquake. A sarcastic tone is created
through this statement, as normally one would not find joy in experiencing an earthquake.
Throughout the essay, Twain describes the actions of the people with similar sarcasm and
exaggeration. When he describes a woman carrying a child who was running ...down the street
holding it by the ankles as if it were a dressed turkey, this imagery of the child is funny, but it also
implies that the women is in such a state of panic that she is not thinking clearly and does not
notice the way she is holding her child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He describes the ground rolling ...in waves and the heavy grinding noise of brick houses rubbing
together. In addition, he describes where the front of a building sprung outward like a door and fell

actions of the buildings. These descriptions and words give the buildings human characteristics, that
illustrate panic and hysteria as they crumble to the

Safe Sex On College Campuses
Trying to choose a theory is never an easy task. In my opinion, there can be a group of six
individuals, each given the task of picking a theory to utilize, and every one of them could
potentially pick a different theory. The reason being, everyone has their own personal experiences
and understanding of what works best, or feels more comfortable executing. With health education,
there are many theories available to choose from, because of that, guidelines were developed.
According to Hayden, there are a total of five theories and they are as followed: 1.Identify the
health issue or problem and the population affected 2.Gather information about the issues or
population or both 3.Identify possibly reasons or causes for the problem 4.Identify... Show more

In my opinion, safe sex on college campuses would not be as much of an issue if practicing safe
sex were promoted more. According to Dr. Berman, only 22 schools in the nation currently
require sex education in schools. It can be understood that this subject is something people
believe parents should cover. However, let s be honest, not all teenagers want to talk about sex in
general with their parents. When the matter is not taken more serious at earlier ages, the behavior
and acceptance of having unsafe sex possibly continues on into adulthood. According to O
Sullivan, the practice of unsafe sex is most commonly due to an individual s lack of knowledge of
what safe sex actually mean and what all is included. They believe that safe sex is just another
form of birth control. However, safe sex is not just a method of birth control, it includes other
components, but most importantly, a means of preventing one from receiving or passing along

Employment Of A Vital Labor And Employment Law
A vital labor and employment law is the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, also known as the
ADEA. The law was enacted in 1967 and later amended. On the Unites States EEOC website, they
write, ADEA protects individuals who are 40 years of age or older from employment discrimination
based on age. (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2008) The law is meant to
safeguard workers from being discriminated against due to their age. The law is especially
important now with workers staying on the job longer and retirees returning to the workforce after
retirement. The EEOC states, The law applies to employers with 20 or more employees, including
state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and labor organizations, as well
as to the federal government. (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2008) Age
discriminationcan come in many forms in the business world. First, employment advertisements
brings the attention of work seeking people. An employer can use certain words in their
employment advertisements that can keep older workers from applying to the job, as an example:
young, recent college graduate, youthful, and etc. An employer using these words can open them to
discrimination lawsuits. Similarly, in an article from the Seattle Times which list five of the biggest
legal missteps Human Resources can make, they write, The hiring process: Mistakes in this area
often start right at the beginning, with discriminatory

Possibilities And Challenges Of Interreligious And Secular...
Possibilities and challenges of interreligious and secular dialogue in today s world. According to
Zago, globalization was imminent and interreligious contact unavoidable, leading to religious
pluralism. The tendency was increasing and creating challenge to mission, which would create not
only meetings but also clashes among various religions. He anticipates the need of attitudes and
initiatives for interreligious dialogue, but this Dialogue, however, must not eliminate proclamation
that remains at the heart of mission and is the criterion by which to judge the validity of mission
and to promote discernment in elaborating a theology of mission and dialogue. Religious pluralism
presents challenges and opportunities for Christians to understand their own being, their mission,
and relationship with other religions. Some tensions that may exist in duality are: fundamentalism
/relativism, proclamation/dialogue, identity/openness, inculturation/syncretism, local autonomy
/human rights, and freedom/reciprocity. Fundamentalism/relativism. These tensions could be
beneficial or a problem especially when fundamentalism becomes radical. For instance, the situation
that is happening in Syria, where there are people who practice three religions: Islam from different
sects as Sunni, Shi a and Kharijites, Druzism, and Christians of different denominations. The war in
because Sunnis resentment against Alawis, and some people says this war has political reasons;
while others sustain it

English Vs. Math
To most people English or Language Arts is a creative course and math is just a logical, you get it
or you don t class. My purpose writing this paper is to change your mind. I believe that Math is
just as, or more creative than English. I will demonstrate this through a couple of examples.
First, we must understand what is behind the creative aspect in English. Most people consider that
English is the, creative, subject because of titles such as creative writing and creative thinking and
in contrast there is no creative something in math. In English when we are, let s say, going to write

You can prove that it is creative because a computer can t solve this equation, (a computer thinks
logically). Technically a computer could solve this equation but it could just tell you if they
were equal and not to the same level of accuracy. A computer would input a value for ? on both
sides and if the answer is equal then the equation is equal. The problem with this is that when
you get into trigonometry there could be a difference in the decilionth decimal place. A computer
can t work with the abstract which is what is in my example. A computer may take 2 seconds or
a million years to find an answer or it may give the wrong answer! The other point is that a
computer can only perform things in a certain order it can t guess or have a feeling about a
question, which brings in the creative aspect.
Another example happened during one of my Calculus classes that I believe to be the most
abstract and creative of the maths. A fellow student and me figured out pie. We figured out that the
integral from 0 to1 of the square root of x minus 1 is equal to half of pie. We had huge problems

Martin Luther Reformation
From the reformation of the within the heart of Martin Luther, came The Reformation that has
forever changed the world of theology, and politics. The invent of the printing press was a catalyst
in the spread of not only the translation of Scripture in common language but the doctrines of
Luther, Calvin, Knox and the Papacy. The shifts in ideas began in the Reformation have had an
impact one can see in the world today. At the forefront of the Reformation is the teachings and
doctrine taught by Martin Luther. Central to Luther s doctrine is that the scripture teaches
justification unto salvation by faith alone, in contrast to the Catholic doctrine that salvation comes
through the impartation of righteousness gained through both faith and works. On this foundational
belief Luther gave birth to the reformation in the early sixteenth century (Shelley Hatchett, 2013,
p.250 54). Luther s teaching the authority of every believer by faith stood in sharp contrast of the
Catholic ideal that the power of God is imparted through the Popeand his clergy (Shelley Hatchett,
2013, p.275). Even in the practice of the two Catholic sacraments Luther deemed biblical, baptism
and Holy Communion, finds contrast with the authority by which the actions are officiated.
Catholic clergy sprinkled babies in baptism, and blessed the Eucharist by their authority. Reformers
believed by personal faith a believer partakes in these sacraments, as a direct connection between
the faithful and God

Digital Technology Fundamentally Changed The Nature Of...

Title: Have developments in digital technology fundamentally changed the nature of diplomacy or
are they simply new means to pursuing the same ends?
Word count:
Intro:
This uncertainty reflects a growing awareness that a transformational international system still
dominated by sovereign states is having to respond to change at several interrelated levels. Whilst
complex policy agendas still demand a central, if changing, role for the state, many of the norms,
rules and roles associated with diplomacy as it has developed over the last few centuries are no
longer fit for purpose. Clearly, fundamental questions regarding the purposes of diplomacy, who is
or should be involved in it and what forms and practices it should assume to deal with new policy
challenges need to be urgently addressed. This applies to international organizations as well as the
institutions of national diplomacy and offers a fundamentally different perspective from that based
on the familiar claim that diplomacy is irrelevant to contemporary global needs. Rather, diplomacy
has a central role but needs to adapt to the demands of a rapidly changing environment. Against this
background, a central assumption of this report is that diplomacy as a set of processes continues to
be of central importance to the global policy milieu and that these processes need to be constantly
re evaluated.

The Transportation Security Administration and Airport...
Airport security is extremely essential for stopping terrorism in the United States. Bombings and
explosions account for 65% of terrorist attacks, armed assaults account for 25% of terrorist
attacks, the last 10% accounts for assassination facility attacks and hostage takings. Today the
Transportation Security Administration, also know as the TSA, has four to five thousand
employees working every day to keep airports safe from a terrorist attack happening. New
technology has made airports safer for travelers, nevertheless not all travelers think it is necessary.
Some travelers complain that because of the new security systems in the baggage checks and body
scanners it takes too long to get to the flight. These passengers do not understand... Show more

The Transportation Security Administrationemployees make sure travelers are not boarding planes
with weapons, bombs and prohibited items. Before the Transportation Security Administration was
established in 2001 there were many terrorist attacks around the world. The first terrorist attack
aboard a plane was in 1933 (Airport, 2013). There still are terrorist attacks happening today for
instance the underwear bombing on the Northwest flight 253 to Detroit on Christmas Day in 2009,
and the shoe bombing in the fall of 2008. Another example demonstrating that since 2001 terrorist
attacks have become less frequent is in the 1960s there was a wave of high profile airline hijacking
which then prompted the airline industry to tighten security (Airpory, 2013). This is an exceptional
example because nothing has happened like that since the 1960s (Shane, 2013). Even though the
airline industry made some adjustments, it was not enough to protect passengers like the
Transportation Security Administration protects them now. Today the Transportation Security
Administration has advanced airport technology with bottle liquid scanners, an explosive detection
system and baggage security. In response to an underwear bombing the Transportation Security
Administration instituted more rigorous passenger screening methods (Liberman,

The Scavengers Short Story
It was one dark and stormy night on the North Atlantic Sea. Guns blazing, gun powder
everywhere, so thick you can barely see ten feet in front of you, the sound of swords clashing
together, and the smell of dozens of bodies rotting away in puddles of blood, the smell so thick
that you can almost taste it. It was a battle between two groups of pirates, The Scavengers and
The Buccaneers, fighting for the map to treasure. They have been fighting for years in search of
this treasure. It all started when two brothers, who were once very close, built a hatred for each
other when their father had to decide who was next in line to take his place as captain. Bucky,
captain of the Buccaneers, was the strong one, more athletic than any other pirate.... Show more

Bucky should be next in line to take their father s position as head captain, but he chose Lex. He
gave Lex the map to the treasure, in hope that with his intellectual abilities, he would find the
treasure. Bucky was furious at his decision. With frustration and anger, he killed his father so he
would have to become the next captain, but Lex already had possession of the map. Buckey
decided to start his own crew and go after what is rightfully his, the map to the treasure. They
haven t had many encounters because Lex is too smart to leave any trace of his crew or where
they have been. The only times they did encounter each other was because Bucky would send out
small squadrons , but even that failed because there was so few of them. Buckey then thought of
ways to catch up with him without losing any crew members, and it was at that moment he knew,

Stereotypes-Personal Narrative
There was an old CRT TV, like the type that had littered the shelves of my brother s pawn shop,
hitched up against the corner of the convenience store I had just walked into. Although the

sweatshirt over my head and walked in, my hands stuffed in the two pockets on either side of
the sweatshirt. I cursed the fact that the sweatshirt had the words Donovan s Fight Club in big,
decorative cursive letters on the back, embroidered by the lady down the street from the club. I

Geography Is Destiny Dbq
There is a saying that Geography is destiny . For early civilizations, geography was an obstacle
when it came to survival. As people settled in permanent locations, they relied on the local
geographical features to sustain themselves. As people relied on geography, it helped shape the
development of early civilizations, such as to provide many natural barriers, trade routes, and fertile
land. China, for example, was able to develop and prosper due to its natural barriers. Based on
document six, China is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean (to the west), the Himalayan Mountains (to
the southwest), and the Gobi Desert (up north). These natural barriers helped stop foreigners from
invading China, thus helping the civilizationdevelop. Furthermore,

Essay on Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
The Evils of Society Exposed in The Lottery
In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery, what appears to be an ordinary day in a small town takes an evil
turn when a woman is stoned to death after winning the town lottery. The lottery in this story
reflects an old tradition of sacrificing a scapegoat in order to encourage the growth of crops. But
this story is not about the past, for through the actions of the town, Jackson shows us many of the
social ills that exist in our own lives.
In today s society we often have an all too casual attitude toward misfortune; Jackson shows us this
aspect of human nature through the town s casual attitude toward the lottery. The men talk of rain,
tractors and taxes and the women gossip all the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many things in our own society parallel the villagers actions. What do most people do when they
see a car accident? They fear it and then they look for carnage; we have to slow down and stare at
an accident Not only do we electrocute criminals, we want to watch the executions live on
television. Perhaps Jackson received the best example of this aspect of human nature; she claims
that most of the letters she received about the lottery wanted to know where these lotteries were
held, and whether they could go there and watch (Friedman 87). People were not shocked into
examining their own lives. They wanted to know where they could go see a live stoning.
Jackson also gives examples of hypocrisy, which runs rampant in today s society. Tessie is
perfectly willing to stone one of her neighbors, but when she is the one who is going to be
stoned, she says, It isn t fair, it isn t right (Jackson 868). Likewise, Mr. and Mrs. Adams talk of
stopping the lottery, yet when it comes time to stone Tessie, Mr. Adams is leading the pack.
Also the men seem to be concerned that women have a man to draw for them: Glad to see your
mother s got a man to do it and Don t you have a grown boy to do it (Jackson 865). But in the end
the men no longer care about the well being of the women; they must take the same chance at
dying. The fact that Tessie is a woman doesn t save her from dying. The Lottery also offers

navigation and pose estimation systems for example, the coordinate system, the dead reckoning

important thing to understanding the configuration of our research as follow;
2.1 The Local Coordinate system The coordinate system was used to defined in local area

The plane is the horizontal plane and the vertical plane is defined perpendicular to the ellipsoid
such a coordinate system is also called a local horizontal coordinate system. From figure 1. can be

The Ethics Of Enterprise Risk Management
Enterprise risk management views all risks to the firm as subject to management and control
(Fraser Simkins, 2010, p. 351). As we have learned, Enterprise Risk Management has three
primary principles, which are: ensure organizational survival, provide social responsibility, and
increase the organization s value, while engaging employees in performance and maintaining
their well being (Bethel, 2016). In its simplest terms, legal risk equates to financial loss (Smith,
2008). In researching for this assignment, I read several articles relating to the subject matter and
remarkably, each article addressed the topic in very similar ways. Fundamentally, the articles
established a framework for identifying and addressing issues that could rise to the level of risk.
Similarly, the reading assignment, lecture, and articles all stated that while risk cannot be avoided
it can be subdued or minimized if dealt with correctly and timely. Further, the lecture and articles
stated some risk is good for business operations, but organizations are charged with determining
whether the risk is worthy of the investment. What are the challenges for today s Human
Resources professionals? Unfortunately, there is a shortage of critical skills talent for some key
roles within many organizations (Jacobs, 2013). Indeed, there is a percentage of workers who
cannot find gainful employment, but sadly many do not have the skills employers are looking for
or need to maintain and exceed their

It is true the computer has converted everything into digital. Digital technology has also changed

production of sound but also in the views of society, precisely consumers and producers. Since the

influences on recording practice changed drastically. The Internet also provided a new way to

in playback equipment and home recording technologies. Music fans do not need labels, retail

Life Goals Essay
Thomas Carlyle once said, Go as far as you can see, and when you get there you will see farther. I
strongly believe that if one plans on achieving his aspirations, setting goals is a very important
step. Having goals not only gives you a clear focus on things, but it also helps you to organize your
plans by allowing you to give yourself time limits and boundaries. That is why I try to set goals for
myself routinely, whether it is just for one day, or for the rest of my life. One goal that I work hard

Doubt Vs Certainty
Every decision a person makes is based on some level of certainty, whether low or high.
Certainty and doubt do not exist as opposites. The two ideas are based on level of belief, either
low, in the case of doubt, or high, in the case of certainty. They exist as equals, both being able to
lead to failure and success. One is not inherently better than the other; they both have the ability to
lead to wild success or unfortunate defeat. To be either certain or doubtful, a person must have a
strong belief about a subject; what that belief is does not matter as much as whether that belief is
correct or inaccurate. Because they exist as equals, a decision between the two should stem from
how strong the evidence is for each, and the strongest of this... Show more content on

The only way one can be sure in their beliefs is to have personally observed and made
conclusions based on this knowledge. This is something known well by every scientist of and
provides the basis for scientific theory. Louis Pasteur, pioneer of the germ theory in the 1850 s,
was certain in the face of an abundance of doubt. While the idea of tiny microscopic organisms
causing disease may have seemed absurd to his peers, Pasteur had made his own experiments
and observations that gave him the ability to be extremely certain about what is now an
accepted fact; those who were doubtful did not have any sort of real evidence to counter
Pasteur. He was able to persevere with his confidence and evidence, leading to major

caused severe issues for many societies. Long before Pasteur s ideas on germs, many medical
issues were said to be caused by an imbalance of four humors, made up chemicals that we now

draining of blood from the body. The people at the time were certain of this process. This certainty,

What is an economic system?
An economic system is a system of production and distribution of goods and services as well as
allocation of resources in a society. It includes the combination of various institutions, agencies,
entities (or even sectors) and consumers that comprise the economic structure of a given
community. (Wikipedia, 2014)
Every society must consider what and how much resources they have and then answer the basic
economic questions of; what to produce? How to produce? and for whom to produce?. How society
answers these questions determines the nature of their economic system. (Rosen, 2011:10)
Types of economic systems
There are four basic types of economic systems in the world: Traditional economy system,
Command economy system, Market economy system and Mixed economy system. Traditional
systems have one method of working and people in traditional economies often live in rural areas
and earn their living from hunting or farming. In command systems, the government owns some or
all the resources. The resources in the market system

Racial Disparities Of Black Students
For decades there has been research conducted on the racial disproportion of black student s
suspension in schools compared to white students (Skiba et al., 2000; Skiba et al., 2002; Wald
and Losen, 2003; Welsh and Payne, 2010; Kinsler, 2011; Wright et al., 2014). Recently, the
Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (2014) study revealed that black students were
three times more likely to be suspend and 3.5 times more likely than their white peers to be
expelled. In the studies conducted, racial gaps in suspension rates are persistently found and still
remains a significant unknown when using different analytical strategies and methodologies
(Wright et al. 2014). It is important to note that no studies have yet been able to account for the
different variables that contributes to the racial disparity in school discipline. A deeper
investigation of past and present research literature is useful in the determining variables that may
contribute to the racial gap in school suspensions and its purposed channel in the school to prison
pipeline. Some earlier researcher s suggestions have been socioeconomic factors, the lower
academic performance of black students, the difference in behavioral problems, or the lower
academic expectations of black students from teachers to support the racial gap in suspension
(Magnuson and Waldfogel, 2005; McCarthy and Hoge, 1987; Tenenbaum and Ruck, 2007). Even in

What Is The Essence Of Christian Worldview
When it comes to defining what is the true essence of the Christian worldview, it must be noted
that there is not a single point of which serves as the essence but rather the essence of Christianity
comes from many of its key points. The first point that serves as part of the foundation that creates
the essence of the Christian worldview would be the belief in Gods existence. This may seem quite
obvious since one of the key tenets of any theistic worldview is the belief a higher power but this
should not be overlooked since it is an extremely vital part. Such a belief in a higher power is
extremely important since it creates a worldview that is extremely different from those within the
Atheistic family. This is because the assumption that

Examples Of Editing In Run Lola Run
The 1998 German film Run Lola Run interestingly told three separate narratives of the same story
and characters. Each of the narratives began the same way, however each one saw a slight
temporal or behavioral difference in the lives of Lola and Manni, which caused drastically different
outcomes for each of the separate realities. The filmfollowed Lola and Manni s journey to acquire
one hundred thousand dollars to make up for Manni s loss of the money to his drug dealer. The
same story was told three separate times, and each story illustrated slight changes in the characters
timelines that drastically shifted the outcome of their situations. Through the use of editing, the
film was able to jump through time and space and clearly portray the transition from one run to the
next. The film also had a fast rhythm that captured the frantic nature and peril of Lola and Manni s
situation, with innovative editing techniques such as showing the two shots of Manni and Lola side
by side. Altogether, the transitions were effective in telling the story with a unique, and clear
sequencing pattern that made sense and contributed to the thrilling atmosphere of the film. Editing

Towards the end of the first two narratives, a shot of Lola running and yelling for Manni was

profound because it illustrated how close Lola was to stopping Manni, but how she was never
close enough. The editing exemplified this through the proximity of the shots being directly next to

Cultural Impact Of The Beatles And Frank Zappa
In my thesis I would like to discuss both the Beatles and Frank Zappa and their cultural and

during their musical career? What was their cultural legacy?
The Beatles are generally considered to be the best band in the history of popular music. This is
mainly due to the influence they had on other bands and musicians all over the world such as Billy
Joel, Nirvana, Oasis and many other. Songs with a similar style and sounding became known as

Anne Frank Reflection
The Holocaust was a horrific event in human history that took place in the early 1930s through
the mid 1940s. This was when millions of Jews and other people who were thought to be a race
and were sent to concentration camps by those who refer to as evil people. Although many
people thought this, one girl, Anne Frank, who was a Jewish girl in hiding, said this: In spite of
everything, I still believe people are really good at heart. Regarding all of the hate and struggles
Anne and her family faced, she still saw good in everyone and everything that happened. After
reading the playbased on Anne s real diary she kept while in hiding, I have to agree with her
famous quote. One of the main reasons I agree with Anne is because of the empathy Mr. Frank
showed for her daughter when times were scary. Now, I do understand that all arguments have two
sides and that there are some who don t agree with me, according to Mr. Van Daan s selfishness
and greed.
Now, I m sure some of you are saying that there are more acts of kindness throughout the play, and I
agree with you, but what convinced me to side with Anne and her thought is when her father, Mr.
Frank, attended to her needs after a nightmare she had. On page 64, the following dialogue takes
place:
Mr. Frank: I want you to take this pill.
Anne: What is it?
Mr. Frank: Something to quiet you. ... Do you want me to read to you for a while?
During this scene, the Van Daan s, the Frank s and Mr. Dussel had gone to bed for the night.
Everyone was sleeping peacefully until Anne started screaming from a terrible nightmare. She
accidentally woke everyone else up with her screaming, and her father decided to take care of
Anne and let everyone else go back to sleep. Unlike Mr. Van Daan, Mr. Frank, or Anne s father,
showed that he has empathy for his daughter and would do anything to make sure that she was
okay. And by asking if she wanted him to read to her really showed that he really cared about her.
His act not only shows empathy for Anne, but that he s there for her when she needs him and that
he doesn t just care about himself, but about others. And by doing so, Mr. Frank stayed with her
until she fell asleep. He was doing what any father should do.

While this demonstrates that the United States has an absolute advantage in services, this is
neither a necessary nor a sufficient condition for determining comparative advantage. For this
determination, the industry ratios are also required. The competitive advantage of any industry

industries. Page 2 of 11 Pages B5. Question # 8 of Ch 3 (8th ed. of the textbook) Anyone who has
visited Japan know it is an incredibly expensive place; although Japanese workers earn about the
same as their U.S. counterparts, the purchasing power of their incomes is about one third less.
Extend your discussion from question 7 (of Chapter 3) to explain this observation. (Hint: Think
about wages and the implied prices of nontraded goods.) While Japanese workers may earn the
equivalent wages of U.S. workers, the purchasing power of their income is one third less. This
implies that although w = w* (more or less), p p* (since 3p = p*). Since the United States is
considerably more productive in services, service prices are relatively low. This benefits and
enhances U.S. purchasing power. However, many of these services cannot be transported and
hence, are not traded. This implies that the Japanese may not benefit from the lower U.S. services
costs, and do not face an international price which is lower than their domestic price. Likewise, the

Why Is It Important For Children
Why Is It Important For Children to Have Opportunities For Play? (D1)
Play is engaging in activities for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical
purpose (Oxford Dictionary, 2015). It s important for children to have opportunities to play because
children have a natural curiosity to discover and explore and this is done through play. Play is a
biological, psychological and social necessity, it s fundamental to the healthy development, learning

Where Did The English Evolved Into A Modern Language
English is the official language of many countries all over the world and is spoken more and
more every day( How English Evolved Into a Modern Language. ). Modern English is the product
of the invasions of England over a long period of time( Where Did the English Language Come
From? ). Throughout history English has influenced and been influenced by many different
languages( A Brief History of the English Language. ). Historically, English is divided into three
periods: Old English or Anglo Saxon, Middle English, and Modern English( What Are the Origins
of the English Language ).
Old English began when certain Germanic tribes migrated to Britain in the fifth century A.D.
Although the period of Old English continues up to the end of the eleventh century, there are no
records of it from before the seventh century( What Are the Origins of the English Language ).
There were four distinct dialects of Old English: Northumbrian,
Mercia, Kentish and West Saxon. This is known through differences in spelling. After 900 AD
West Saxon became widely used as a standard written language, and is sometimes referred to as
Classic
West Saxon ( Borrowing in Old English ).
There was a large influx of words into the language during the period of Old English. Old English
commonly used place names from Celtic, religious, army, and educational words from Latin, and
everyday words from Scandinavian. The Germanic tribes that invaded England had been exposed to
Latin before they invaded, so

To be able to achieve that goal, hedge funds employ varied strategies. To understand hedge fund,
let s try to understand one of the strategies commonly seen, that is selling short . Let s assume
that we have two securities that are related to each other, that is, their price behaves similarly to
the market conditions. They move in together over time. Let s assume that at some point in
time, they diverge for whatever reason. This divergence is seen as an opportunity to minimize
the risks (or may be greediness!) and make big profits irrespective of how the market is
performing. The hedge fund would buy security that is selling below its normal range, as it is
expected to increase relative to A, and would sell security A short. Short selling (also known as
shorting or going short) is the practice of selling assets, usually securities, that have been borrowed
from a third party (usually a broker) with the intention of buying identical assets back at a later date
to return to the lender.
To understand it even better, let s put some numbers and try to phrase it so that anyone can
understand the concept. Let s consider Beans and Rice, since they are so closely related, we
assume that their price always shows similar trends. Difference between their prices is always a
dollar and beans are always less than rice. For example if rice is 5$ a

The Issue Of Child Onset Schizophrenia Essay
SOWK 506 Fall 2015
Assignment #3: Child Onset Schizophrenia Becki Kennedy and Mary Marrone
USC School of Social Work December 11, 2015
Martha Lyon Levine
Introduction This research paper focuses on the issue of child onset schizophrenia, specifically
looking at the prognosis, symptoms, stigma, and most effective treatment options for children. This
topic has become a significant social issue as a result of the recent mass school shootings
throughout the nation and the associated stigma. Severe mental illnesses, especially schizophrenia,
are being severely impacted by stigma. Society today views schizophrenia as dangerous ,
furthering this stigma. Further, little research has been done of childhood onset schizophrenia
(Hollis, 2003). However, research has shown that individuals with an earlier onset or diagnosis
experience more persistent and debilitating symptoms than those with an older age of onset
(Findling Schulz, 2005). Along with a higher occurrence of more severe symptoms, child onset
schizophrenia is a complicated issue because children are being prescribed psychotropic
medications at an early age during a period of critical brain development (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley,
2014). This greatly affects development and exposes children to very severe side effects of the
medication, resulting in a lot of patients refusing medication and the treatment they deserve.
As social workers, it is important to look at different behavioral

Middle Ear Disease Essay
Question 1: Is there any association between middle ear disease and schizophrenia?
Answer: The risk of developing schizophrenia is likely to be multifactorial with genetic and
environmental factors interacting or acting alone. There was considerable research interest in
finding a probable relation in between middle ear disease and insanity at the beginning of
twentieth century. A review article has been published by Bryant WS in which he has cited the
authors from as early as 1890 who thought that ear disease itself could cause insanity and even
secondary dementia1. Later, biologists have found that the left temporal lobe which lies directly

Question 2: What are the parameters for the Finite Element Model of Middle Ear?
Answer: The identification parameters for the finite element model of middle ear is based on a
model consisting of tympanic membrane, malleus and ligaments. Beer et al. has given a detailed

malleus as a rigid body with inertial properties and the ligaments as pipe elements with longitudinal,

1.Geometrical parameters,
2.Inertial parameters,
3.Stiffness parameters.
According to the Drescher et al., items of the first two groups were determined on the basis of

Even though they are real people we weren t really seeing who they are.
A documentary film is not made up; it shows what really happens in real life; shows things as
they are naturally are. This statement is not completely true. The story a documentary tells stems
from the historical world but it is still told from the filmmaker s perspective and in the
filmmaker s voice. This is a matter of degree, not a black and white division. (Nichols, 12) In
these cases the stories told speak about the actual events directly, not allegorically, and the film
adheres to the known historical facts. Social actors, people, present themselves in fluid, negotiated,
revealing ways. (Nichols,12) According to Nichols documentaries are true events but the
filmmaker shapes what we see into what they want us to see. We are getting the perspective of the
directors. An example of movie watched in class was Nanook of the North, even though the people
were real, some of the scenes seemed staged. The director wants us to see Nanook and his people

the old, ever new and curious story of the waning of a woman s love, seeking strange, new
channels, only to return to its legitimate source after days of fierce unrest. (Chapter XXIII). This
is the first direct implication of a possible affair approaching in Edna s future, and the Doctor is
one of the only people to notice her growing sexual awakening. Once Alcee further perseus Edna
and kisses her it is described as the first kiss of her life to which her nature had really responded. It
was a flaming torch that kindled desire. (Chapter XXVII) completing her sexual awakening and

Character Strength in One Day in the Life of Ivan...
Character Strength in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a novel about survival.
Solzhenitsyn shows us how even in seemingly atrocious circumstances each person can find
sources of strength that gives them the will to carry on. Many of the things that the prisoners think
of as their sources of strengths would mean nothing to us, but if one thinks about it, without them
we would perhaps lose the will to carry on.
Most of the prisoners have more than one source of strength, perhaps subconsciously they have
made their own fail safes. If they lost one source, they would have other more personal reasons to
carry on. The two main factors of strength that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He studies the New Testament and he uses literature to cut out the outside world. Shukhov does not
seem like a religious man, but as one goes further into the novel, one begins to see him taking a
bigger interest in religion, and more importantly, faith. Alyosha tries to show Shukhov that faith
is the strongest source of strength, and he tells Shukhov to try to see the importance of spiritual
goods rather than material goods. However, objects have a lot of importance to all of the
prisoners. Aloysha hides his New Testament to avoid it being confiscated just Shukhov hides his
bread. This shows us that the Bible is as important to Alyosha as bread is to Shukhov. At the end
of the novel Shukhov gives away a biscuit to Alyosha and expects nothing in return. This shows
that he has taken Alyosha s advice and has chosen to feel spiritual accomplishment rather than
keeping the material good. Property is another source of strength in the novel. Possessing
something that other prisoners do not have is a way of showing individuality in a place where
all the prisoners are marked as the same, ignoring what they have or have not done. Shukhov s
spoon is also very symbolic. Shukhov is forced to hide the spoon in order to keep it from being
taken by the guards. In a way this shows us how the camp tries to take away anything that gives the
prisoners a sense of individuality, or anything that gives them happiness.

Kerry Howley s Narrative Voice
Narrative Voice I enjoyed the Craft talk with Kerry Howley on the role of the narrator as a character
in the story. It was particularly interesting to focus on the narrator and to actually get the chance to
develop the narrator as a character. She mentioned that often the narrator is the character that gets
the least amount of attention from the author, which seems bizarre. The narrator is the characterwith
which the entire narrativearc is seen. Intuitively you would think that this character would receive
the most attention from the author. The characteristics of the narrator can influence every detail of
the story. Kerry had us each think of an anecdote to share with a partner that would later be the
basis for the short stories we would

Anita Desai s Desai
She finds totally alone and helpless in her husband s house. Anita Desai s language is marked by
three characteristics of sensuous richness, high sensitiveness and love for the sound words. She is
chiefly interested in the emotional world of woman, and her fiction reflects a rare imaginative
awareness of the various forces in operation and a genuine understanding of feminine sensibility as
well as psychology. Her central characters are sensitive and respond faithfully to the needs of the
self.
Anita Desai uses words for their own sake. She displays her skill in using words for music and
magic. The title of the novel also symbolizes the agony of an unfulfilled desire. Though living as
man and wife they are strangers to each other. In the two novels of Anita Desai Where Shall We Go
This Summer and Cry, The peacock both the heroines are not a maladjusted couples. They are
constantly faced with the spectacles of endless frustration in the unending series of hope and
disappointment.
Maya and Sita s understanding of the present situation is disturbed and distorted by memories of
the past expectations of the future. Instead of trying to live in the present, they move backward
into the past and search for happiness in the memories of the bye gone days. They refuse to fully
in the present. Desai s characters reflect an acute sense of time and Space as the major dimensions of
human life. Their awareness of these, sometimes, leads them to examine the nature of time and
space in

Animal Crossing Persuasive Essay
27. If I could live inside any video game, it would have to be Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I chose
this game because it has been my favorite game ever since July 7, 2013. Because that is when I
first got Animal Crossing. The main reason I want to live in it is because you are the brand new
mayor for a brand new village that you make up yourself. You get to have animal neighbors that
have houses and furniture and and talk to you. You also have a shopping district you can go to
and there is even and museum where you can donate things. Like fish, bugs, art, and even fossils!
But there s more. You get to plant trees of certain kinds a fruit like apples, pears, cherries, peaches,
oranges, lemons, durians, lychees, and mangos. You can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It costs money every time you expand your house or when you get another room. But the way
you get money is by collecting fruit and selling them, collecting fish and bugs and selling them,
and even selling furniture and clothes. So by selling you get money to buy furniture for your
house. You get to design your furniture in your house anyway that you d like! You can even
meet other real people in Animal Crossing! You can chat with them, go to their town, and even
convince their animals that live there to move to your town! But there s even more! You can
escape to an island paradise and go on tours there and meet people and get exotic fruits for your
town. You can even get seashells there. Oh! and you can go deep sea diving with a wetsuit and
collect slugs, crabs, octopi, and more! But my favorite part about Animal Crossing: New Leaf,
is how every hour the background music changes. Like in the morning, 9am has a happy cheery
song, and how 1am has a sad, sleepy song that makes you tired. But if you re up late on Animal
Crossing, all the stores will be closed. All you can do is enjoy the music, look at the sky, plant
flowers and trees, and fix up your town. But who s to say that s not fun. Hey, sometimes I even do
that! My favorite time to play is either 12pm, or

(Acts 10:19 20) The church of Antioch, as they ministered to the Lord and fasted, was
collectively informed by the Holy Spirit that he had called Barnabas and Saul for a special
evangelistic mission and that the saints were to separate them for that purpose. (Acts 13:2)
Joseph was instructed by an angel to keep Mary as his wife, even though she was pregnant from
someone else. (Matthew 1:20) Each of these were instances of righteous men, diligently seeking
the will of God in his word, and in Godly counsel and wisdom. In each case, believers were
instructed in matters beyond the scope of this level of revelation and God moved especially to give
them direction as they needed it.
This waiting on the Lord is a matter of continuity, something that one is regularly doing without
extended interruption or lapse. Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and
wait on thy God continually. (Hosea 12:6) It is not a seasonal, sporadic, or spasmodic thing,
neither is it unique. Waiting on the Lord is to be as embedded in the life as

One Trip To The Trashcan
Times are tough, and more people are cooking at home than dining out. However, some of them
are starting to get frustrated with how much time it takes to prepare a good meal. Here are three
great tips to make cooking faster, easier, and more enjoyable. Cooking Tip #1: Make One Trip to
the Trashcan Running back and forth to the trashcan is aggravating (as well as inefficient). You
can make only one trip by lining a colander, sink strainer, small trash can, or other wide mouthed
receptacle with a plastic shopping bag and keeping it next to your cutting board. If your cutting
board happens to be right next to the sink, place the lined receptacle in the basin. Otherwise place
the receptacle at your feet (but be careful not to trip over it). Toss... Show more content on

Limiting the use of our utilities is not only beneficial to our budget but also to the environment as
well. Here are several useful and lesser known tips in conserving energy while you are in the
kitchen. While being in the kitchen, the stove is one of the main items that will use up the most
energy, so it is important to be wise with your energy consumption when cookingon it. Adjust the
burners when using a gas based cooking top so that the flames just barely touch or are a tad
lower than the bottom of the pans you are cooking on. Flames that curl around a pan waste more
energy. However, if you are using an electric cook top, put the pan on a coil that is similar in
size. Place the pan so that its bottom lies absolutely flat on the burner. This will conserve a great
deal of energy. Also, when using an electric stove, set the burners on high first and then proceed to
lower it to finish the cooking. For dishes that aren t pans, turn off the burner completely at the end
as the element will hold the heat for several minutes. In addition to your stoves, the oven vent on an
electrical range can be very useful. If you are using an oven vent on an electrical range, you will
find that the vent is under one of the burners. While the oven is in use, you will be able to feel
the hot air flowing through the vent. For dishes that you would like to warm, set them on that
burner. This will minimize the use of a microwave and will also optimize the use of your
burners. Now, for dishes that need to cook for long periods of time, particularly over an hour,
there is no need to preheat your oven (unless you are cooking a turkey that needs a crisp skin). For
dishes that must be cooked just under an hour, extend the cooking time for a little bit. The only
preheating that is required is for dishes that have a short baking time. Although this seems like a
very obvious tip

Manipulation In Shakespeare s Othello
Otello takes Shakespeare s Othello and turns it into an Italian Opera. While the two are similar in
many ways, it is their differences that set them apart and enhance the meaning of the play. Otello
begins in Cyprus at the end of the defeat of the Turks, and the beginning of Iago s plot to destroy
Othello. During the celebration of Othellos return, Cassio sings his praises for Desdemona, and
seems to begin to arouse Othello s suspicions early on. Iagos plan to ruin Othello and Desdemona s
marriage and tarnish Cassio s reputation continues seamlessly through his manipulation of Othello s
thoughts. He points him towards Cassio and Desdemona s more flirtatious behaviors during the
feast, quickly angering him. Iago lacks the subtlety that he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The effects of every character s actions come full circle, and are slightly different from
Shakespeare s original ending. Instead of allowing Iago to merely become a prisoner to be
tortured later, Othello takes out his anger on him and murders him. Iago is unable to survive
because of his evil deeds and his effective manipulation of Othello. In some ways, he brought
about his own demise by doing too well in his manipulation of his enemy. He enraged Othello so
much that he felt compelled to enact his revenge by killing Iago, who brought about his mental
destruction in the first place. This alternative ending illustrates the power of rage over one s
mind and body, and places emphasis on the immorality of Iago s manipulations. Iago is not the
only one who suffers from the consequences of Othello s loss of sanity. Desdemona s death is
much more brutal than it had been originally. Instead of suffocating his wife in bed, Othello
violently strangles Desdemona to death, and he doesn t attempt to talk himself out of ending her
life like he does in Othello. Othello s actions are much more deliberate and merciless as a direct
result of his domination by jealousy.
Overall, Otello illustrates more plainly the destructive qualities of various emotions while Othello
tells a story of jealousy and betrayal while addressing issues of racism and sexism. This film
enhanced my understanding of the emotions felt by the characters and the impact of these emotions
both mentally and physically on both the individual and those around them. However, the film
lacks the political commentary and overall meaning that Othello holds. In the end, the film and
book are best in conjunction to bring out the strengths in

It is this realisation that sowed the seeds of collective bargaining which later resulted in trade
unionism. The workers, working under a common employer, faced common problems and common
tasks. They developed common sentiments, and organised themselves into associations which
could meet the employers on a basis of equality. The inchoate labour organisations had to cross
many hurdles before they could develop into fullfledged stable trade unions. There were internal
dissentions, persistent and determined opposition from the employers, merciless persecution and
suppression by the state (For example, in England, France, Germany and the United States,
combinations of workmen per se were declared illegal), and the full throated condemnation of trade
unionism by the advocates of free competition and laissez faire. In spite of these efforts at
suppression, trade unions continued to grow, sometimes working underground and sometimes
openly. They continued to defy the laws prohibiting the combination of workmen (Combination
Acts of 1799 and 1800 in Great Britain, for example) and the judicial pronouncements (particularly,
the judgement in the Philadelphia Cordwainers Case of 1806 in the United States) against the
combinations of workmen. Under incessant pressures from the workers and their organisations, the
law and the attitude of the courts gradually came to be modified. The history of the trade union
movement everywhere is a history of blood,

art of china Essay examples
China has the world s oldest living civilization. It s written history goes back almost 3,500 years,
and the history told by it s artifacts and artwork goes back much farther. The oldest known works
of Chinese art include pottery and jade carvings from the time of 5000 BC. Jade is a general
term used to describe either jadeite or nephrite, known as true jade. It s composed of several
minerals. It s smooth and rich in texture, but it s also extremely tough. It can be off white, or dark
green, and sometimes has a reddish tint. Authentic jade is cool and never translucent. The
philosopher Confucius described jade perfectly when he said: quot;It is soft, smooth and shining

Although other countries also created China, the pottery originated in Asia. French porcelain was
inspired by the delicate white work from the Ting dynasty, and Clue and white Dutch Delft
porcelain was modeled after pottery from the Ming dynasty.
Pottery started out as functional, but became more ornamental as the centires continued. the themes
of the painted and carved porcelain were mostly nature scenes, but they were also from folklore.
Artrists originaly molded the clay with their hands and set it in the sun to try. Eventualy they began
to use a potter s wheel, and they used a glaze at the same time as the romans.
During the Tang dynasty, Chinese pottery began to develop it s own distict style. They used the
first colored glazes, and underglaze painting. The best pottery came from the time between the
Sung dynasty and the Ming times, when the King hired officials to work in his court strictly as
potters. When these artists made mistakes in their work (cracks or drips), they used the mistakes
to create a picture, such as turning a crack into a tree, or a drip into a teardrop.
Although painting was not China s first form of art, it is probably the most important and
dominating form today. Chinese paintings have always tried to capture philosophy as well as
details. 1,400 years ago, Hsieh Ho, made six basic laws for painting, which artists in China still
follow today. They

  • 2. Morality And Ethics Of The Auschwitz And Art Spiegelman s... Morality is adaptable in extreme situations. The Holocaust is an example of what happens to one s morality when forced to adapt to animalistic behavior in order to survive. Life in Auschwitz required a purging of one s human dignity for survival. Prisoners were constantly exposed to perpetual dehumanization, which inevitably led to the dehumanization, and restoration of one s mental, physical, and social adaptation. Because of this, one s morality begins to erase. It is in the adaptation of living in a merciless world that the line separating right and wrong begins to blur. Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz and Art Spiegelmans Maus, both represent how morality and ethicsare challenged in the means of survival. Man is bound to pursue his own ends by all possible means, while he who errs but once pays dearly. (Levi 1.3). In one short sentence, Levi sums up the situation: its human nature to use any means necessary to survive. And that s exactly what happens in the camp. There are many in the camps who are not able to cope with its horrible circumstances. Unfortunately, those who are unable to cope result in animalistic behavior. When being exposed to inhumane conditions, one begins to act inhumane. Null is an example of one who regresses into an unconscious state of being. Levi presents Null as an example of one who has resulted in doing anything and everything to survive. Levi recounts, when he speaks, when he looks around, he gives the impression of being empty ... • 3. Glaucoma Essay Glaucoma Glaucoma is a group of eye disorders that cause blindness by hurting the optic nerve, which is the large nerve that is responsible for vision. In glaucoma, the optic nerve damage is related to a change in the fluid pressure that circulates around the eyeball. In many cases, Glaucoma occurs when the eye s fluid pressure is high, but it can also occur when the pressure is measured as normal. Fluid circulating inside the front portion of the eye is produced by a structure called the ciliary body, which is located behind the iris. This fluid moves through the opening of the pupil, passes into the space between the iris and the cornea, and drains out of the eye through a tissue called the angle. With glaucoma, the passing of fluid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prevention Right now, although there is no way to prevent glaucoma, there are many successful treatments available to prevent the blindness caused by glaucoma. Because the gradual vision loss of chronic glaucoma may not be noticed until it is too late, regular eye examinations, dilated exams of the optic nerve, and screening tests of the visual field are essential for all persons aged 40 and older, especially is your family has a history of glaucoma. Treatment Treatment of open angle glaucoma usually begins with prescription eyedrops. These eyedrops lower pressure inside the eyeball, either by causing the eye to produce less fluid or by helping fluid to drain more. As an alternative to medication or when medication does not control glaucoma, laser surgery can be done. This surgery, also called laser trabeculoplasty, uses a laser to make the openings in the eye s drainage network larger. If medication and laser surgery are unsuccessful, conventional eye surgery may be necessary to make a new opening for fluid to leave the eye. Acute glaucoma must be treated early to prevent loss of vision. Treatment usually begins with laser treatment to make a new opening in the iris that allows the angle to open. This is often restores vision, but in some eyes it is necessary to use eyedrops long term. Surgical treatment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mark Twain s The San Francisco Earthquake San Francisco is a historic city on the coast of California. It is known throughout history for experiencing many earthquakes, as it sits next to the San Andreas fault which runs up and down the state. The city becomes the setting for Mark Twain s narrative essay, The San Francisco Earthquake which recounts the events of an earthquakeknown as the great earthquake. In the ensuing disaster, Twain does not direct his focus on the destruction of the cityas much as he does on the people s reactions. Through his writing, Twain wants to show that when faced with terror, people will resort to mindless and silly behavior. Twain begins his essay by saying, I enjoyed my first earthquake. A sarcastic tone is created through this statement, as normally one would not find joy in experiencing an earthquake. Throughout the essay, Twain describes the actions of the people with similar sarcasm and exaggeration. When he describes a woman carrying a child who was running ...down the street holding it by the ankles as if it were a dressed turkey, this imagery of the child is funny, but it also implies that the women is in such a state of panic that she is not thinking clearly and does not notice the way she is holding her child. ... • 5. Safe Sex On College Campuses Trying to choose a theory is never an easy task. In my opinion, there can be a group of six individuals, each given the task of picking a theory to utilize, and every one of them could potentially pick a different theory. The reason being, everyone has their own personal experiences and understanding of what works best, or feels more comfortable executing. With health education, there are many theories available to choose from, because of that, guidelines were developed. According to Hayden, there are a total of five theories and they are as followed: 1.Identify the health issue or problem and the population affected 2.Gather information about the issues or population or both 3.Identify possibly reasons or causes for the problem 4.Identify... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, safe sex on college campuses would not be as much of an issue if practicing safe sex were promoted more. According to Dr. Berman, only 22 schools in the nation currently require sex education in schools. It can be understood that this subject is something people believe parents should cover. However, let s be honest, not all teenagers want to talk about sex in general with their parents. When the matter is not taken more serious at earlier ages, the behavior and acceptance of having unsafe sex possibly continues on into adulthood. According to O Sullivan, the practice of unsafe sex is most commonly due to an individual s lack of knowledge of what safe sex actually mean and what all is included. They believe that safe sex is just another form of birth control. However, safe sex is not just a method of birth control, it includes other components, but most importantly, a means of preventing one from receiving or passing along ... • 6. Employment Of A Vital Labor And Employment Law A vital labor and employment law is the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, also known as the ADEA. The law was enacted in 1967 and later amended. On the Unites States EEOC website, they write, ADEA protects individuals who are 40 years of age or older from employment discrimination based on age. (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2008) The law is meant to safeguard workers from being discriminated against due to their age. The law is especially important now with workers staying on the job longer and retirees returning to the workforce after retirement. The EEOC states, The law applies to employers with 20 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and labor organizations, as well as to the federal government. (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2008) Age discriminationcan come in many forms in the business world. First, employment advertisements brings the attention of work seeking people. An employer can use certain words in their employment advertisements that can keep older workers from applying to the job, as an example: young, recent college graduate, youthful, and etc. An employer using these words can open them to discrimination lawsuits. Similarly, in an article from the Seattle Times which list five of the biggest legal missteps Human Resources can make, they write, The hiring process: Mistakes in this area often start right at the beginning, with discriminatory ... • 7. Possibilities And Challenges Of Interreligious And Secular... Possibilities and challenges of interreligious and secular dialogue in today s world. According to Zago, globalization was imminent and interreligious contact unavoidable, leading to religious pluralism. The tendency was increasing and creating challenge to mission, which would create not only meetings but also clashes among various religions. He anticipates the need of attitudes and initiatives for interreligious dialogue, but this Dialogue, however, must not eliminate proclamation that remains at the heart of mission and is the criterion by which to judge the validity of mission and to promote discernment in elaborating a theology of mission and dialogue. Religious pluralism presents challenges and opportunities for Christians to understand their own being, their mission, and relationship with other religions. Some tensions that may exist in duality are: fundamentalism /relativism, proclamation/dialogue, identity/openness, inculturation/syncretism, local autonomy /human rights, and freedom/reciprocity. Fundamentalism/relativism. These tensions could be beneficial or a problem especially when fundamentalism becomes radical. For instance, the situation that is happening in Syria, where there are people who practice three religions: Islam from different sects as Sunni, Shi a and Kharijites, Druzism, and Christians of different denominations. The war in because Sunnis resentment against Alawis, and some people says this war has political reasons; while others sustain it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. English Vs Math Essays English Vs. Math To most people English or Language Arts is a creative course and math is just a logical, you get it or you don t class. My purpose writing this paper is to change your mind. I believe that Math is just as, or more creative than English. I will demonstrate this through a couple of examples. First, we must understand what is behind the creative aspect in English. Most people consider that English is the, creative, subject because of titles such as creative writing and creative thinking and in contrast there is no creative something in math. In English when we are, let s say, going to write a creative short story we use our imaginations and there are no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SinВІ? + Cos ? | Sec ? You can prove that it is creative because a computer can t solve this equation, (a computer thinks logically). Technically a computer could solve this equation but it could just tell you if they were equal and not to the same level of accuracy. A computer would input a value for ? on both sides and if the answer is equal then the equation is equal. The problem with this is that when you get into trigonometry there could be a difference in the decilionth decimal place. A computer can t work with the abstract which is what is in my example. A computer may take 2 seconds or a million years to find an answer or it may give the wrong answer! The other point is that a computer can only perform things in a certain order it can t guess or have a feeling about a question, which brings in the creative aspect. Another example happened during one of my Calculus classes that I believe to be the most abstract and creative of the maths. A fellow student and me figured out pie. We figured out that the integral from 0 to1 of the square root of x minus 1 is equal to half of pie. We had huge problems

  • 10. Martin Luther Reformation From the reformation of the within the heart of Martin Luther, came The Reformation that has forever changed the world of theology, and politics. The invent of the printing press was a catalyst in the spread of not only the translation of Scripture in common language but the doctrines of Luther, Calvin, Knox and the Papacy. The shifts in ideas began in the Reformation have had an impact one can see in the world today. At the forefront of the Reformation is the teachings and doctrine taught by Martin Luther. Central to Luther s doctrine is that the scripture teaches justification unto salvation by faith alone, in contrast to the Catholic doctrine that salvation comes through the impartation of righteousness gained through both faith and works. On this foundational belief Luther gave birth to the reformation in the early sixteenth century (Shelley Hatchett, 2013, p.250 54). Luther s teaching the authority of every believer by faith stood in sharp contrast of the Catholic ideal that the power of God is imparted through the Popeand his clergy (Shelley Hatchett, 2013, p.275). Even in the practice of the two Catholic sacraments Luther deemed biblical, baptism and Holy Communion, finds contrast with the authority by which the actions are officiated. Catholic clergy sprinkled babies in baptism, and blessed the Eucharist by their authority. Reformers believed by personal faith a believer partakes in these sacraments, as a direct connection between the faithful and God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Digital Technology Fundamentally Changed The Nature Of... Name: Jennifer Diane Ulloa SOAS ID: 643951 Course: Global Diplomatic Studies and Practice Tutor: Goitom Gebreluel Title: Have developments in digital technology fundamentally changed the nature of diplomacy or are they simply new means to pursuing the same ends? Word count: Intro: This uncertainty reflects a growing awareness that a transformational international system still dominated by sovereign states is having to respond to change at several interrelated levels. Whilst complex policy agendas still demand a central, if changing, role for the state, many of the norms, rules and roles associated with diplomacy as it has developed over the last few centuries are no longer fit for purpose. Clearly, fundamental questions regarding the purposes of diplomacy, who is or should be involved in it and what forms and practices it should assume to deal with new policy challenges need to be urgently addressed. This applies to international organizations as well as the institutions of national diplomacy and offers a fundamentally different perspective from that based on the familiar claim that diplomacy is irrelevant to contemporary global needs. Rather, diplomacy has a central role but needs to adapt to the demands of a rapidly changing environment. Against this background, a central assumption of this report is that diplomacy as a set of processes continues to be of central importance to the global policy milieu and that these processes need to be constantly re evaluated. ... Bombings and explosions account for 65% of terrorist attacks, armed assaults account for 25% of terrorist attacks, the last 10% accounts for assassination facility attacks and hostage takings. Today the Transportation Security Administration, also know as the TSA, has four to five thousand employees working every day to keep airports safe from a terrorist attack happening. New technology has made airports safer for travelers, nevertheless not all travelers think it is necessary. Some travelers complain that because of the new security systems in the baggage checks and body scanners it takes too long to get to the flight. These passengers do not understand... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Transportation Security Administrationemployees make sure travelers are not boarding planes with weapons, bombs and prohibited items. Before the Transportation Security Administration was established in 2001 there were many terrorist attacks around the world. The first terrorist attack aboard a plane was in 1933 (Airport, 2013). There still are terrorist attacks happening today for instance the underwear bombing on the Northwest flight 253 to Detroit on Christmas Day in 2009, and the shoe bombing in the fall of 2008. Another example demonstrating that since 2001 terrorist attacks have become less frequent is in the 1960s there was a wave of high profile airline hijacking which then prompted the airline industry to tighten security (Airpory, 2013). This is an exceptional example because nothing has happened like that since the 1960s (Shane, 2013). Even though the airline industry made some adjustments, it was not enough to protect passengers like the Transportation Security Administration protects them now. Today the Transportation Security Administration has advanced airport technology with bottle liquid scanners, an explosive detection system and baggage security. In response to an underwear bombing the Transportation Security Administration instituted more rigorous passenger screening methods (Liberman, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Scavengers Short Story It was one dark and stormy night on the North Atlantic Sea. Guns blazing, gun powder everywhere, so thick you can barely see ten feet in front of you, the sound of swords clashing together, and the smell of dozens of bodies rotting away in puddles of blood, the smell so thick that you can almost taste it. It was a battle between two groups of pirates, The Scavengers and The Buccaneers, fighting for the map to treasure. They have been fighting for years in search of this treasure. It all started when two brothers, who were once very close, built a hatred for each other when their father had to decide who was next in line to take his place as captain. Bucky, captain of the Buccaneers, was the strong one, more athletic than any other pirate.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He gave Lex the map to the treasure, in hope that with his intellectual abilities, he would find the treasure. Bucky was furious at his decision. With frustration and anger, he killed his father so he would have to become the next captain, but Lex already had possession of the map. Buckey decided to start his own crew and go after what is rightfully his, the map to the treasure. They haven t had many encounters because Lex is too smart to leave any trace of his crew or where they have been. The only times they did encounter each other was because Bucky would send out small squadrons , but even that failed because there was so few of them. I placed the hood of my sweatshirt over my head and walked in, my hands stuffed in the two pockets on either side of the sweatshirt. I cursed the fact that the sweatshirt had the words Donovan s Fight Club in big, decorative cursive letters on the back, embroidered by the lady down the street from the club. • 15. Geography Is Destiny Dbq There is a saying that Geography is destiny . For early civilizations, geography was an obstacle when it came to survival. As people settled in permanent locations, they relied on the local geographical features to sustain themselves. As people relied on geography, it helped shape the development of early civilizations, such as to provide many natural barriers, trade routes, and fertile land. China, for example, was able to develop and prosper due to its natural barriers. Based on document six, China is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean (to the west), the Himalayan Mountains (to the southwest), and the Gobi Desert (up north). These natural barriers helped stop foreigners from invading China, thus helping the civilizationdevelop. Furthermore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Essay on Shirley Jackson s The Lottery The Evils of Society Exposed in The Lottery In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery, what appears to be an ordinary day in a small town takes an evil turn when a woman is stoned to death after winning the town lottery. The lottery in this story reflects an old tradition of sacrificing a scapegoat in order to encourage the growth of crops. But this story is not about the past, for through the actions of the town, Jackson shows us many of the social ills that exist in our own lives. In today s society we often have an all too casual attitude toward misfortune; Jackson shows us this aspect of human nature through the town s casual attitude toward the lottery. The men talk of rain, tractors and taxes and the women gossip all the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many things in our own society parallel the villagers actions. What do most people do when they see a car accident? They fear it and then they look for carnage; we have to slow down and stare at an accident Not only do we electrocute criminals, we want to watch the executions live on television. Perhaps Jackson received the best example of this aspect of human nature; she claims that most of the letters she received about the lottery wanted to know where these lotteries were held, and whether they could go there and watch (Friedman 87). People were not shocked into examining their own lives. They wanted to know where they could go see a live stoning. Jackson also gives examples of hypocrisy, which runs rampant in today s society. Tessie is perfectly willing to stone one of her neighbors, but when she is the one who is going to be stoned, she says, It isn t fair, it isn t right (Jackson 868). Likewise, Mr. and Mrs. Adams talk of stopping the lottery, yet when it comes time to stone Tessie, Mr. Adams is leading the pack. Also the men seem to be concerned that women have a man to draw for them: Glad to see your mother s got a man to do it and Don t you have a grown boy to do it (Jackson 865). But in the end the men no longer care about the well being of the women; they must take the same chance at dying. The fact that Tessie is a woman doesn t save her from dying. • 18. The Ethics Of Enterprise Risk Management Enterprise risk management views all risks to the firm as subject to management and control (Fraser Simkins, 2010, p. 351). As we have learned, Enterprise Risk Management has three primary principles, which are: ensure organizational survival, provide social responsibility, and increase the organization s value, while engaging employees in performance and maintaining their well being (Bethel, 2016). In its simplest terms, legal risk equates to financial loss (Smith, 2008). In researching for this assignment, I read several articles relating to the subject matter and remarkably, each article addressed the topic in very similar ways. Fundamentally, the articles established a framework for identifying and addressing issues that could rise to the level of risk. Similarly, the reading assignment, lecture, and articles all stated that while risk cannot be avoided it can be subdued or minimized if dealt with correctly and timely. Further, the lecture and articles stated some risk is good for business operations, but organizations are charged with determining whether the risk is worthy of the investment. What are the challenges for today s Human Resources professionals? Unfortunately, there is a shortage of critical skills talent for some key roles within many organizations (Jacobs, 2013). The two ideas are based on level of belief, either low, in the case of doubt, or high, in the case of certainty. They exist as equals, both being able to lead to failure and success. One is not inherently better than the other; they both have the ability to lead to wild success or unfortunate defeat. To be either certain or doubtful, a person must have a strong belief about a subject; what that belief is does not matter as much as whether that belief is correct or inaccurate. While the idea of tiny microscopic organisms causing disease may have seemed absurd to his peers, Pasteur had made his own experiments and observations that gave him the ability to be extremely certain about what is now an accepted fact; those who were doubtful did not have any sort of real evidence to counter Pasteur. He was able to persevere with his confidence and evidence, leading to major improvements in health. On the other hand, misplaced confidence in scientific theories has caused severe issues for many societies. Long before Pasteur s ideas on germs, many medical issues were said to be caused by an imbalance of four humors, made up chemicals that we now know are not real. The cure to this imbalance was a process called bloodletting, literally the draining of blood from the body. The people at the time were certain of this process. Racial Disparities Of Black Students For decades there has been research conducted on the racial disproportion of black student s suspension in schools compared to white students (Skiba et al., 2000; Skiba et al., 2002; Wald and Losen, 2003; Welsh and Payne, 2010; Kinsler, 2011; Wright et al., 2014). Recently, the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (2014) study revealed that black students were three times more likely to be suspend and 3.5 times more likely than their white peers to be expelled. In the studies conducted, racial gaps in suspension rates are persistently found and still remains a significant unknown when using different analytical strategies and methodologies (Wright et al. 2014). It is important to note that no studies have yet been able to account for the different variables that contributes to the racial disparity in school discipline. A deeper investigation of past and present research literature is useful in the determining variables that may contribute to the racial gap in school suspensions and its purposed channel in the school to prison pipeline. Some earlier researcher s suggestions have been socioeconomic factors, the lower academic performance of black students, the difference in behavioral problems, or the lower academic expectations of black students from teachers to support the racial gap in suspension (Magnuson and Waldfogel, 2005; McCarthy and Hoge, 1987; Tenenbaum and Ruck, 2007). Each of the narratives began the same way, however each one saw a slight temporal or behavioral difference in the lives of Lola and Manni, which caused drastically different outcomes for each of the separate realities. The filmfollowed Lola and Manni s journey to acquire one hundred thousand dollars to make up for Manni s loss of the money to his drug dealer. The same story was told three separate times, and each story illustrated slight changes in the characters timelines that drastically shifted the outcome of their situations. Through the use of editing, the film was able to jump through time and space and clearly portray the transition from one run to the next. This was when millions of Jews and other people who were thought to be a race and were sent to concentration camps by those who refer to as evil people. Although many people thought this, one girl, Anne Frank, who was a Jewish girl in hiding, said this: In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart. Regarding all of the hate and struggles Anne and her family faced, she still saw good in everyone and everything that happened. After reading the playbased on Anne s real diary she kept while in hiding, I have to agree with her famous quote. One of the main reasons I agree with Anne is because of the empathy Mr. Frank showed for her daughter when times were scary. Now, I do understand that all arguments have two sides and that there are some who don t agree with me, according to Mr. Van Daan s selfishness and greed. Now, I m sure some of you are saying that there are more acts of kindness throughout the play, and I agree with you, but what convinced me to side with Anne and her thought is when her father, Mr. Frank, attended to her needs after a nightmare she had. On page 64, the following dialogue takes place: Mr. She accidentally woke everyone else up with her screaming, and her father decided to take care of Anne and let everyone else go back to sleep. Unlike Mr. Van Daan, Mr. Frank, or Anne s father, showed that he has empathy for his daughter and would do anything to make sure that she was okay. And by asking if she wanted him to read to her really showed that he really cared about her. His act not only shows empathy for Anne, but that he s there for her when she needs him and that he doesn t just care about himself, but about others. The Issue Of Child Onset Schizophrenia Essay SOWK 506 Fall 2015 Assignment #3: Child Onset Schizophrenia Becki Kennedy and Mary Marrone USC School of Social Work December 11, 2015 Martha Lyon Levine Introduction This research paper focuses on the issue of child onset schizophrenia, specifically looking at the prognosis, symptoms, stigma, and most effective treatment options for children. This topic has become a significant social issue as a result of the recent mass school shootings throughout the nation and the associated stigma. Severe mental illnesses, especially schizophrenia, are being severely impacted by stigma. Society today views schizophrenia as dangerous , furthering this stigma. Further, little research has been done of childhood onset schizophrenia (Hollis, 2003). However, research has shown that individuals with an earlier onset or diagnosis experience more persistent and debilitating symptoms than those with an older age of onset (Findling Schulz, 2005). Along with a higher occurrence of more severe symptoms, child onset schizophrenia is a complicated issue because children are being prescribed psychotropic medications at an early age during a period of critical brain development (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2014). This greatly affects development and exposes children to very severe side effects of the medication, resulting in a lot of patients refusing medication and the treatment they deserve. Answer: The risk of developing schizophrenia is likely to be multifactorial with genetic and environmental factors interacting or acting alone. There was considerable research interest in finding a probable relation in between middle ear disease and insanity at the beginning of twentieth century. A review article has been published by Bryant WS in which he has cited the authors from as early as 1890 who thought that ear disease itself could cause insanity and even secondary dementia1. Later, biologists have found that the left temporal lobe which lies directly above the middle ear has large impact in the neuropathology of schizophrenia. In the mid 1990s, a case ... Answer: The identification parameters for the finite element model of middle ear is based on a model consisting of tympanic membrane, malleus and ligaments. Beer et al. has given a detailed description of the finite element model where the eardrum is modeled as a thin curved shell, the malleus as a rigid body with inertial properties and the ligaments as pipe elements with longitudinal, bending and torsional stiffness1. The parameters for the finite element model of middle ear can be divided into three groups: 1.Geometrical parameters, 2.Inertial parameters, 3.Stiffness parameters. According to the Drescher et al., items of the first two groups were determined on the basis of geometric measurements2. There are several documentaries we watched in class that show that documentaries don t all fall under the same assumptions. A common assumption about documentaries is that there is no imagination needed. In a time when the major media recycle the same stories on the same subjects over and over, when they risk little in formal innovation, when they remain beholden to powerful sponsors with their own political agendas and restrictive demands, it is the independent documentary filmthat has brought a fresh eye to the events of the world and told stories, with verve and imagination, that broaden limited horizons and awaken new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though they are real people we weren t really seeing who they are. A documentary film is not made up; it shows what really happens in real life; shows things as they are naturally are. This statement is not completely true. The story a documentary tells stems from the historical world but it is still told from the filmmaker s perspective and in the filmmaker s voice. This is a matter of degree, not a black and white division. (Nichols, 12) In these cases the stories told speak about the actual events directly, not allegorically, and the film adheres to the known historical facts. Social actors, people, present themselves in fluid, negotiated, revealing ways. (Nichols,12) According to Nichols documentaries are true events but the filmmaker shapes what we see into what they want us to see. We are getting the perspective of the directors. An example of movie watched in class was Nanook of the North, even though the people were real, some of the scenes seemed staged. The director wants us to see Nanook and his people behind on technology and still living in the past. There is the scene were one of them is biting a disc, it seems the director is trying to make us believe these people are way behind and primitive. During her tenure as priest of St. Titus Episcopal Church in Durham, North Carolina, Murray had a strong sense of what preached and what was appropriate in the pulpit. A sermon, in her Episcopalian context, was never more than fifteen minutes and never the central thing. After her vacation back in New Orleans as Edna s emotional awakening develops, but not as obviously as her sexual awakening. The first direct implication of an affair comes when Leonce goes to Doctor Mandelet. In chapter XXIII the Doctor goes to have dinner with Edna, simply to observe in person the strange behavior Leonce described to him, but when he meets her she seems perfectly fine. One thing the Doctor does notice is her behavior with Alcee. Chopin notes the Doctor happier in his selection, when he told the old, ever new and curious story of the waning of a woman s love, seeking strange, new channels, only to return to its legitimate source after days of fierce unrest. (Chapter XXIII). This is the first direct implication of a possible affair approaching in Edna s future, and the Doctor is one of the only people to notice her growing sexual awakening. Character Strength in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a novel about survival. Solzhenitsyn shows us how even in seemingly atrocious circumstances each person can find sources of strength that gives them the will to carry on. Many of the things that the prisoners think of as their sources of strengths would mean nothing to us, but if one thinks about it, without them we would perhaps lose the will to carry on. Most of the prisoners have more than one source of strength, perhaps subconsciously they have made their own fail safes. If they lost one source, they would have other more personal reasons to carry on. The two main factors of strength that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alyosha tries to show Shukhov that faith is the strongest source of strength, and he tells Shukhov to try to see the importance of spiritual goods rather than material goods. However, objects have a lot of importance to all of the prisoners. Aloysha hides his New Testament to avoid it being confiscated just Shukhov hides his bread. This shows us that the Bible is as important to Alyosha as bread is to Shukhov. At the end of the novel Shukhov gives away a biscuit to Alyosha and expects nothing in return. This shows that he has taken Alyosha s advice and has chosen to feel spiritual accomplishment rather than keeping the material good. Property is another source of strength in the novel. Possessing something that other prisoners do not have is a way of showing individuality in a place where all the prisoners are marked as the same, ignoring what they have or have not done. Shukhov s spoon is also very symbolic. Shukhov is forced to hide the spoon in order to keep it from being taken by the guards. It was particularly interesting to focus on the narrator and to actually get the chance to develop the narrator as a character. The narrator is the characterwith which the entire narrativearc is seen. Intuitively you would think that this character would receive the most attention from the author. However, some of them are starting to get frustrated with how much time it takes to prepare a good meal. Here are three great tips to make cooking faster, easier, and more enjoyable. Cooking Tip #1: Make One Trip to the Trashcan Running back and forth to the trashcan is aggravating (as well as inefficient). You can make only one trip by lining a colander, sink strainer, small trash can, or other wide mouthed receptacle with a plastic shopping bag and keeping it next to your cutting board. If your cutting board happens to be right next to the sink, place the lined receptacle in the basin. Otherwise place the receptacle at your feet (but be careful not to trip over it). Toss... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Limiting the use of our utilities is not only beneficial to our budget but also to the environment as well. Here are several useful and lesser known tips in conserving energy while you are in the kitchen. While being in the kitchen, the stove is one of the main items that will use up the most energy, so it is important to be wise with your energy consumption when cookingon it. Adjust the burners when using a gas based cooking top so that the flames just barely touch or are a tad lower than the bottom of the pans you are cooking on. Flames that curl around a pan waste more energy. However, if you are using an electric cook top, put the pan on a coil that is similar in size. Place the pan so that its bottom lies absolutely flat on the burner. This will conserve a great deal of energy. Also, when using an electric stove, set the burners on high first and then proceed to lower it to finish the cooking. For dishes that aren t pans, turn off the burner completely at the end as the element will hold the heat for several minutes. In addition to your stoves, the oven vent on an electrical range can be very useful. If you are using an oven vent on an electrical range, you will find that the vent is under one of the burners. While the oven is in use, you will be able to feel the hot air flowing through the vent. For dishes that you would like to warm, set them on that burner. This will minimize the use of a microwave and will also optimize the use of your burners. Now, for dishes that need to cook for long periods of time, particularly over an hour, there is no need to preheat your oven (unless you are cooking a turkey that needs a crisp skin). For dishes that must be cooked just under an hour, extend the cooking time for a little bit. The only preheating that is required is for dishes that have a short baking time. Instead of allowing Iago to merely become a prisoner to be tortured later, Othello takes out his anger on him and murders him. Iago is unable to survive because of his evil deeds and his effective manipulation of Othello. In some ways, he brought about his own demise by doing too well in his manipulation of his enemy. He enraged Othello so much that he felt compelled to enact his revenge by killing Iago, who brought about his mental destruction in the first place. This alternative ending illustrates the power of rage over one s mind and body, and places emphasis on the immorality of Iago s manipulations. Iago is not the only one who suffers from the consequences of Othello s loss of sanity. Desdemona s death is much more brutal than it had been originally. Instead of suffocating his wife in bed, Othello violently strangles Desdemona to death, and he doesn t attempt to talk himself out of ending her life like he does in Othello. Othello s actions are much more deliberate and merciless as a direct result of his domination by jealousy. Overall, Otello illustrates more plainly the destructive qualities of various emotions while Othello tells a story of jealousy and betrayal while addressing issues of racism and sexism. This film enhanced my understanding of the emotions felt by the characters and the impact of these emotions both mentally and physically on both the individual and those around them. The workers, working under a common employer, faced common problems and common tasks. They developed common sentiments, and organised themselves into associations which could meet the employers on a basis of equality. The inchoate labour organisations had to cross many hurdles before they could develop into fullfledged stable trade unions. There were internal dissentions, persistent and determined opposition from the employers, merciless persecution and suppression by the state (For example, in England, France, Germany and the United States, combinations of workmen per se were declared illegal), and the full throated condemnation of trade unionism by the advocates of free competition and laissez faire. In spite of these efforts at suppression, trade unions continued to grow, sometimes working underground and sometimes openly. They continued to defy the laws prohibiting the combination of workmen (Combination Acts of 1799 and 1800 in Great Britain, for example) and the judicial pronouncements (particularly, the judgement in the Philadelphia Cordwainers Case of 1806 in the United States) against the combinations of workmen.
