Kojeve s Metaphors
ANSWER Q 1
1. Explain Kojeve s metaphor of overcoming the Slavish mentality of given being as compared to the
master s being for itself. Select a passage from Kojeve s text and from Coates text and explain how the
two passages relate to each other by demonstrating this overcoming as metaphor and the over coming.
Coats passage an example of the overcoming process that Kojeve writes about in In Place Of
Introduction.
The my reading of Kojeve s text IN PLACE OF INTRODUCTION , I noticed that in the Slavery and
Mastery systems, the first beginnings of the social life of man are based on power, which means that
society is based on strength and it takes the ideal philosophy as a general trait, the power is only the

What is tragic ... in this situation, writes Kojeve, is acknowledgment here unilateral, for it [the Master]
does not recognize the human reality and the dignity of the slave. Therefore, it is recognized by
someone He does not recognize . Thus, in a decidedly Marxist way, Kojeve suggests that Man,
complete and absolutely free, definitely and completely satisfied with what he is, the perfect man,
completed by this satisfaction, will be the slave who has overcome his slavery. If the Inactive Mastery
is a stalemate, laborious. Slavery, on the other hand, is the source of all human, social and historical
progress. History is the story of the working slave.
An advantage that the slave has the Master lies in the fact that he knows the value and reality of
autonomy of human freedom; While he cannot experience this value, as he sees it only by recognizing
the other as such, the aspiration to overcome, to replace the relation, is there for the Slave. Besides,
writes Kojeve, the experience of the struggle which made him a slave predisposes him to the
autonomous act, to the negation of himself (negation of his given I, who is a slave) . Another
advantage for the slave exists in his ability to:
transform the world given by his work ; Therefore, he goes beyond himself, and goes beyond the

Essay about HIstory of Astronomy and Neptune
Science is and has become a necessity to know just to keep up with the tremendous advancements of
today and tomorrow. Basic things, such as how the universe was suspected to be started or who
Ptolemy and Galileo were and what they did are just things that need to be known to fully understand
what is happening in the world around you. These things are what you need to know, if you re a

Johannes Kepler was born in 1571 and was one of the first strong believers of the heliocentric
planetary theory. He discovered the three laws of planetary motion. This German astronomer believed
in the Harmonices Mundi, or the Harmonies of the World. In his Harmonices Mundi he spoke of his
third law, which was about the relationship between the orbital periods and the distances of the planets
from the sun. He believed the sun regulates the velocity of the planets. This fact was a marking point
in Astronomy history. This left a path for Newton s theory of universal gravitation.
Galileo Galilei was a student at the University of Pisa. He studied medicine, though his real interests
were natural philosophy and mathematics. What he is mostly remembered for is his work on free fall,
his use of telescopes, and his employment of experimentation. In 1592, he became a professor of the
University of Padua. His job was to teach Euclid geometry and standard astronomy to medical
students. Instead he taught and lectured a more unconventional form of astronomy and natural
philosophy to his medical students. In a personal letter to Kepler sent in 1598, Galileo stated that he
was a Copernican, meaning he believed the teachings of

Comparison Between Explicit And Implicit Memory
During the last few decades memory researchers have shown interest in both explicit and implicit
memory, drawn comparisons between them and explored techniques to measure them in a variety of
settings including advertising and communication effectiveness (Goode, 2007; Samu Krishnan, 2010;
Yoo, 2007). Explicit memory refers to conscious and intentional recollection or retrieval of previously
stored information or experiences, and is assessed by traditional tests of recognition and recall. In
contrast, implicit memory refers to changes in task performance or observed behavior produced by
priming effects of prior experiences without the conscious or intentional retrieval of those experiences
(Graf Masson, 2013). Memory researchers have empirically investigated this unconscious nature of
implicit memory by exploring dissociations between explicit and implicit memory (Gopie, Craik,
Hasher, 2011; Mulligan, 2012) in a sense that certain variables like level of processing and divided
attention at stimuli exposure impact explicit memory but leave implicit memory unaffected (Bechtel,
2008; Spataro et al., 2013). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to this approach, dissociation between an implicit and explicit memory test reflect
dissociation in different cognitive operations required at the time of the tests (Roediger, 1990). While
explicit memory depends on conceptually driven cognitive operations during encoding and retrieval,
implicit memory depends on perceptually driven (data or visually driven) mechanisms (Boehm
Sommer, 2012; Mulligan, 2012). More is the extent of overlap of these cognitive operations between
encoding and testing conditions, better is the performance on explicit and implicit memory tests (Lee,
2002; Yoo,

Lee Harvey Oswald’s Motives for killing President John F....
There have been many papers, books, and articles written on Lee Harvey Oswald s motives for killing
President John F. Kennedy. No one knows for sure exactly what motivated him in this horrendous act,
but there has been some speculation that a fatherless upbringing or his mental health led the way in
making him the most famous assassin of the twentieth century. Lee Harvey Oswald had a rough
childhood. He grew up without a father figure in his life so he was lacking direction from the most
important source (Biography: Lee Harvey Oswald ). His father died two months before Oswald was
born, leaving his mother with three small children. As a result, his mother would frequently neglect
and leave Lee with various babysitters (Diamond). These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oswald could be very violent at times and at one point Oswald had spoken about shooting an
American President (Oswald s Motive). His friend that he had talked to about this said that he didn t
say it jokingly. He was a very violent person and the Russian émigré community from Dallas reported
that There is also clear evidence that Oswald...had a history of wife battering (Oswald s Motive).
During one fight, he actually tried to kill his wife by strangling her. What he was trying to achieve
through his violence was a warped form of control. While Oswald was a violent person, there are also
signs that he was also emotionally and mentally unstable, and even his wife was scared for his mental
state (Oswald s Motive). Dr. Steven Diamond says that Oswald most likely could have been suffering
from psychopathic narcissism (which is the constant need to be admired) and that would have caused
him to do what most of the young men who commit such very public crimes seek: facile infamy
(Diamond). This most likely was caused by his overwhelming feeling of rejection from his parents
and caretakers. Most likely all he wanted was for someone to notice him and to gain immortality
(Diamond). Another theory that is put forward is that Lee Harvey Oswald was merely a patsy in some
bigger conspiracy. Most conspiracy theories follow along the lines that Oswald didn t commit the
horrible crime, and someone else did. When the authorities caught Oswald, he was going into a

Examples Of Ideal Beauty And The Venus Of Willendorf
Ideal Beauty and the Venus of Willendorf The Venus of Willendorf is said to be the first masterpiece
of world sculptures. It belongs to a series of Venus figurines of the Paleolithic period or Old Stone
Age. This period was characterized by crude stone and bone weapons, cave paintings, and sculptures.
The Venus was found in a small village of Austria called Willendorf, hence the name of the Venus.
This groundbreaking discovery was made in 1908 by the archaeologist Josef Szombathy. However, it
was not until 1990 when we were able to predict the time when the sculpture was carved. It is believed
to have been made between 25,000 B.C.E and 20,000 B.C.E. The sculpture is only 4,4 inches tall and
it is made of oolitic limestone, which is a carbonate rock commonly found in India, around the
Caribbean and Pacific Ocean Islands, but not Austria. Therefore, archeologists believe that this
sculpture was moved from its original place of creation. Continuing with that idea, because of the fact
that the sculpture does not have defined feet so it is not able to stand and that it is small and malleable,
historians believe that it was originally made to be carried around as a talisman or a sign of good luck,
especially for fertility purposes. It is important to notice how the structure of this sculpture highlights
some human features (breasts, belly, hips, vulva) while minimizing others, such as arms and legs. The
Venus represents the first aesthetic ideas of our early history, which has

Industrialization in India
Need for Trend of Industrialization in India
What is Industry?
In its broadest sense, industry is any work that is undertaken for economic gain and that promotes
employment. The word may be applied to a wide range of activities, from farming to manufacturing
and tourism. It encompasses production at any scale, from the local sometimes known as cottage
industry to the multinational or transnational.
In a more restricted sense, industry refers to the production of goods, especially when that production
is accomplished with machines. It is this limited definition of industry that is embodied by the notion
of industrialization: the transition to an economy based on the large scale, machine assisted production
of goods by a concentrated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ironically, de industrialization in the three countries mentioned above has been accompanied by a
growth in the high tech industries in areas such as the Côte d Azur in France; Silicon Valley in
California; and along the M4 motorway, around Cambridge, and in central Scotland the so called
Silicon Glen in the UK. The long term impact of de industrialization has yet to be felt. It may be the
speed of the process, rather than the process itself, that needs careful management.
Transnational Corporations
Probably the most significant industrial development since the 1960s has been the rise of the
multinational or transnational company. Examples of these companies, which operate in many
countries, are Ford, General Motors, IBM, Siemens, and Matsushita Electrical. United Nations (UN)
estimates that investment by transnational companies has risen by 13 per cent per year over the last 20
years, largely because more and more governments are accepting these firms into their countries.
Nevertheless, the growth of multinational corporations has raised a number of concerns. An enormous
amount of production power is concentrated in the hands of a few controllers, which means that the
countries involved become directly susceptible to economic changes in other parts of the world. The
transfer of assets from one country to another may be difficult for governments to manage or prevent,
and there are likely to be disparities in the treatment of different countries.

Abstract
Cheating seems like it is almost a guaranteed topic of discussion at least once a day. Whether you re
hearing a struggle of someone close to you, hearing about it on the television, or even telling your own
personal experience, we hear about it way too often. Cheating can be done in the palm of your hand,
just on your cell phone alone. We are surrounded in a social media thriving world which allows you to

More often than not families try to hide everything possible from their kids when sometimes
explaining to them, without all the dramatic detail, can teach the most. To me, I d rather know what
happened and know that it is not something that is accepted but because we are a family and we love
each other we choose to work things out, if possible. Without any explanation kids conjure ideas in
their heads that end up consuming them which in turn can have a negative effect when they have a
family of their own and the same issue arises. Secondly, both men and women work harder, longer
hours than ever before. On top of that, to make ends meet, some families end up working completely
opposite hours to either get extra money or to work out childcare. When two people rarely see each
other, you have a lot of alone time on your hands to either find someone who is awake when you are
or someone in general that you can relate to. Just like day shift workers that go to lunch with their
coworkers and befriend them, people who work nights do the exact same thing. Overworking yourself
can set the tone for exhaustion, vulnerability, and just about anything else that can lead up to finding
yourself in someone else s arms. Lastly, and the most common reason given for cheating, would be
lack of intimacy or sex in the relationship. This one seems to be geared more towards men but plenty
of women cheat for this reason alone. In the beginning of any relationship it seems that you just can t

Difference Between The House And The Senate
There are many differences between the House of Representatives and the Senate. For one the House
of Representatives is bigger than the Senate. There is not a lot of media coverage in the House as it is
in the Senate, members in the Senate are elected every six years as for the House are elected every two
years. The House has a reputation of being much more contentious and impulsive when it comes to
legislation (enotes.com). When it comes to electing a House Rep its by district, so winning that seat is
a lot easier than the Senate, for simple fact you are going for a congressional district vote, and not a
state wide vote. Another important difference is that money related or monetary bills must be made in
the House. It is like this because

Separation Of Powers And The United Kingdom s...
This essay is aimed to focus on and examine the importance of having a separation of powers and the
reasons for having same in the United Kingdom s constitution. We shall further look into the structure
of the United Kingdom s constitution whilst assessing its somewhat unclear separation of powers
which exist and assess the reasons why the United Kingdom s system of government does not adhere
to the doctrine of the separation of powers. The separation of powers is defined as the political
doctrine of constitutional law under which the branches of government are divided to prevent an abuse
of power. These three branches are the Legislative, Executive and Judicial and are assigned special
powers to maintain a check and balance on each other. In this essay, we shall further go on to discuss
the roles and functions of each of the mentioned branches of government and the extent to which this
defined separation of power is enforced and/or practiced in the United Kingdom s system of
government taking into account the traditional structure that has been maintained over the years.
Aristotle states, There are three elements in each constitution ...first, the deliberative, which discusses
everything of common importance; second the officials; and third, the judicial element. These three
elements as defined by Aristotle are now known as our Legislative, Executive and Judicial arms of the
United Kingdom s system of government.

Egan s Explanation Of Oxygen
According to Egan s, ventilation is the process of moving gas (usually air) in and out of the lungs
Egan s 225). If a patient lungs sounds are normal, the respiratory care practitioner is not concerned
due to decrease in obstruction in the airway. Contrary, if the respiratory care practitioner listens to
sounds like wheezes, stridor, rhonchi, rales, the practitioner is mostly concerned due to the fact that an
increase in obstruction is either in the upper or lower airway. This increase obstruction could lead to
decrease tissue oxygenation by causing tissue hypoxia, cyanosis, stagnant or a disease such as chronic
bronchitis.
Oxygen is the part of the gases that is inhaled by mammals, even though it is not the most abundant in
the atmosphere. This oxygen is the function of the blood and the heart, and it is dissolved in the
plasma PaO2 and chemically bound to hemoglobin SaO2. In fact, for every 100 d/L of blood, 0.003ml
of oxygen is dissolved in the plasma, and 1.34 m l of oxygen is carried in every 100 d/l of blood

pressure continues to decrease in the circulation: Pa2 = 13 kPa (100 mm Hg) in the averli and 5 kPa

Old Ben And Fox Hunt Comparison Essay
Some things can be very similar, but also very different. For example, stories can be different. They
have different plots and different authors, but they can also have similar elements and plot ideas. Some
examples of that in a story could be that a character makes a friend, or attempts to achieve a goal. In
this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting Old Ben and Fox Hunt , two stories with different plots
and similar elements. While some similarities are evident between Old Ben and Fox Hunt , the
differences are also distinct.
There are many similarities between Old Ben and Fox Hunt . One of them is the use of foreshadowing
in both narratives. Foreshadowing is when there are indications throughout the text that hint at events
to come. In Old Ben , it is foreshadowed that the snake will die in the end. In Fox Hunt , it is
foreshadowed that Lee is the fox spirit. Another similarity is that the two stories both have main
characters that are either animals, or have animal characteristics, such as Ben from Old Ben , who is a
snake, and Andy, from Fox Hunt , who is part fox. A closing similarity is that both of the stories use
narrative structure. Narrative structure is when a narrative is arranged in chronological order. Looking
at these examples, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conversely, there are also distinct differences. One of those differences is Fox Hunt using flashbacks
to tell a story. Flashbacks inform you of events that happened in the past. Old Ben does not use any
flashbacks at all. A second difference is that Old Ben transpires over a longer period of time; months
pass during the story. In Fox Hunt , the story only takes place over a few weeks. A concluding
difference is that Fox Hunt uses fantasy ideas, such as fox spirits, while Old Ben does not, and only
uses real life ideas. Therefore, Old Ben and Fox Hunt are quite different in many

politics and leadership. IDENTITY: Internal Factors have common culture and religion and external
factors have common security or economic trade. Regional awareness exists naturally even if it does

Essay On Obesity Epidemic
More than one third or 78.6 million of U.S. adults are obese , according to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention. Obesity does not only mean a bigger waist line, but also a greater chance at
developing life threating health problems. Preventable diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes
and certain types of cancer are increased in individuals who are considered obese (CDC). While
physical activity plays an important role in a healthy lifestyle, what one consumes is also a significant
factor. With obesity at staggering high rates, healthy food choices should be made more available and
affordable, while the price of unhealthy food and drinks should be increased to help bring a decline to
this ongoing epidemic.
To understand the full extent of the obesity epidemic, one must first understand what the term obese
indicates. A person whose BMI, or body mass index, ranges above 30 is considered obese. The healthy
BMI range for a normal person is between 19 and 24 (CDC). When an individual consumes more
energy, or calories, than they use, the excess calories are stored in the body as fat and thus causes
weight gain. Over time, without both reduction of calorie intake and increased activity , a larger
amount of fat is stored and as a result obesity occurs (Diet and ... Show more content on

18th And 21st Amendment Essay
Our Constitution was written to be the backbone of our government but with the task it s given not
everything can be written word for word but must be interpreted. Its there to establish our national
government and fundamental laws and guaranteed certain basic rights for its citizens. With ideas such
as amendments and the Elastic Clause our Constitution can cover all bases and be able to adapt to the
situations at hand.
Change comes whether we like it or not and amendments are set in place to govern what the founding
fathers had not thought was an issue at the time our Constitution was written. Amendments are the
process of formally altering or adding to a document. The Constitution restricts what our government
is able to do but sometimes new rights and laws need to be made. This allows for our Constitution to
fill our needs in the present time as new problems arise. Laws and rules in the amendments are made
to form to the citizens for our benefit. If an amendment is proposed it would go to the House of
Representatives and the Senate who would vote to add it or not. If they believed it would improve our
Constitution then it would be added. Sometimes though they are repealed because they no longer

Magwitch s Manipulations of Pip in Great Expectations Essay
Magwitch s Manipulations of Pip in Great Expectations
In Great Expectations, Charles Dickens criticizes the motivation of the lower classes to rise to the
level of wealth and education held by the upper classes by showing the extent to which Pip is
exploited by Magwitch to meet these goals. To meet the expectations of the gentleman, Pip must leave
his family and any possibility of earning his living in order to satisfy the educational and societal
demands of this standard. Magwitch, a social deviant, hopes to prove his viability by using his
unfortunate circumstances to produce a gentleman entirely by his own effort. Magwitch exhibits Pip to
the world as a gentleman who is not hardened by labor, but he does so by his ... Show more content on

The title of gentleman therefore denotes one who passes his time idly without and obligation or
responsibility besides remaining socially amiable. The emergence of the middle class in the nineteenth
century allowed people not of noble birth to enter the ranks of gentility. Becoming an educated and
morally noble gentleman had come within the reach of those who had previously been excluded.
Industry made it possible for someone of the working class to elevate his social position through his
own efforts. This new definition of the gentleman had a great appeal among the emerging middle class
because high birth, the traditional passport to recognition as a gentleman, could be side stepped at
least in theory (Platz 152). This new opportunity created a split between the traditional upper classes
and the newly established English bourgeoisie. Dickens recognized the paradoxical aspiration toward
the position of an idle gentleman through labor. Obtaining the appearance of a gentleman became
more important than the means by which the facade is constructed. Platz writes, Dickens Great
Expectations can be interpreted as an attempt to dismantle both the legitimacy and symbolic authority
of the gentleman (162). Pip deceives himself by accepting the old

Principles of Management
15 September, 2016
History of Management: Paper 1 Many people have their fingerprints on what is known as
management today. Just as everything else it started from ground zero with a lot of trial and error.
Over the years brilliant people such as Adam Smith and countless others have etched into history that
best way to manage, whether on a small or large scale. The wake of these people is still being seen
today in upcoming companies such as Zappos, who brings fresh and new twists to management as a
whole. Management has evolved over the years and will continue to as people and procedures do as
well.
March 9, 1776 marked the date that Adam Smith wrote his widely known book The Wealth of Nations
. The book s original name is An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations,
however it is not recognized by the majority public as so. Smith originally wrote the novel to
dismember the thought that mercantilism was a good idea. Only selling goods and gaining nothing
from trade in return proved in many cases to not be effective.. Smith wrote of the Invisible Hand
which claimed that people, by human nature, look out for their best interest and that in doing so they
unknowingly help the economy. Smith states, He (or she) generally, indeed, neither intends to promote
the public interest nor knows how much he is promoting it (Investopedia.com, An Inquiry into the

Social Medi A Functional Analysis Approach
In today s society where social media has become an increasingly popular form of communication for
organizations to interact with its public, Amy Reitz, Senior Market Insights Manager at Hewlett
Packard wrote her article Social Media s Function in Organization: a Functional Analysis Approach
while she was an assistant Professor at the University of Northern Colorado. Amy claims that
organizations can function better with an open systems approach to public relations by employing
social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than organizations that function as a closed
system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1). Author Amy Reitz took several theories into consideration in the
development of this paper, but ultimately decided that a functional analysis approach best described
that organizations would benefit better as an open system with help from using social media. The main
claim the author tries to convey is, organizations can function better with an open systems approach to
public relations by employing social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than
organizations that function as a closed system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1). The article s main goal is to
suggest that organizations will function better by using social media, which will ultimately help the
organization function better as an open system. The author supports this by taking into consideration
four functions in which social media will help the system of an organization. These include:

Criminals Should Not Have Guns
Convicted Criminals Should Not Own Guns First off, gun control is one of the most stunning and
intriguing topics discussed in the United States today. Gun control should only be for criminals they
should not take guns away from innocent people. Criminals should not be allowed to carry guns in
public as protection because they may harm others, use it for illegal purposes, and with no federal law.
Also, by citing this amendment the supreme court had upheld the right of states to govern firearms
(Masters). In 2008, the decisions were confirmed that an individual right to keep and bear arms, had
outlawed handguns and to lock them in their homes and for them to be disassembled in Washington,
D.C. (Masters). The U.S. has the highest rate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also add that the system has holes in it (Volokh). Another problem is the laws of carrying guns
vary enormously (Volokh). The case was basically about reading the criminal state and made sure that
the criminal will not go to prison unless the government proves the requirements (Volokh). Gorsuch
and his associates argued that the 10th circuit should have turned the decision that failed around earlier
(Volokh). A felon can regain his gun rights under federal law if the state where he got convicted
restores four things (Volokh). the first and second ones are his gun rights under state law their right to
vote (Volokh). The third and fourth ones are the felons right to serve on a jury their right to hold office
(Volokh). Lastly, no criminals should be allowed to carry guns as protection in public. Gun control
should only apply to criminals who have used guns as a weapon. One reason that criminals should not
be allowed is because they used it to harm another person. Also, a few others would be that they used
it illegally or there is no federal law. Of course they have certain restrictions on felons or criminals
who have used guns as to harm

Definition Of Honesty In The Odyssey
Cole Kilboy English 9 Volpi 29 Mar. 2017 The Price of Honesty Honesty is truly the best policy.
Merriam Webster defines honesty as being, free of deceit and untruthfulness; sincere. Some people
view honesty as the foremost virtue in a trustworthy person. However, this world is tainted with many
who deceive others to be revered, although when you turn around they will be divergent from your
views typically lying to benefit themselves at the expense of your state. A common term for these
people is a fake person or a snake . It is remarkably difficult to find a truly honest man, and when
found, many are taken advantage of. This is often because some view them as a doormat who they use
simply to get rumors, gossip, or information they need. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

According to DrugAbuse.gov, long term studies of drug use patterns show that most high school
students who use other illegal drugs have tried marijuana first. Teens are often peer pressured into
doing drugs; they get to comfortable with them they inevitably reframe to harder and more potent
drugs. In Cole Meyer s short story, Addiction the narrator is a struggling teen addict and his addiction
continues to worsen as he ages. Meyer uses setting, character and conflict to illustrate the devastating
effects of addiction on the individual. In the short story, the protagonist lives in an environment where
the use of drugs and alcohol is so common, that even teenagers had easy access to the products. The
narrator explains, The first time I heard Pink Floyd was with Alison. Her parents were hippies, and
they d let us get high in her bedroom , this shows that even the parents of the teens condone their
actions and did not care about what they were doing. There were even special places one could go to
receive the drugs; he explains, Aaron s house for weed, Ryan s for coke...The alley behind Home
Depot was for heroin . The constant leniency of the parents are guardians of the teens enable them to
do as they please and inevitability sends them down the wrong path in life. The protagonist of the
story is an unnamed male whose experiments with alcohol and weed at fifteen years old lead to harder
drugs and greater consequences that threaten his safety and security. For example, the narrator says,
Donny said he saw me standing sorta wonky in the back and said I need a hit. Donny was the first to
get me high , he implies that his friend Donny got him high because of how he was standing. The use
of drugs did not just stop at marijuana, the narrator also indulged in alcohol, he goes on saying, The
rest of the kids would watch as Mark and I shotgunned Schlitz beneath the bleachers of the stadium .
Which eventually led to him dropping out if school and focusing on his habits and not his well being.
The protagonist constant influences from his friend and associates increased his use and encouraged

Structure of the Chloroplast: Leafs contain chlorophyll and are the sites of photosynthesis in plants.
Their flattened surfaces gather energy from sunlight while openings on their undersides bring in
carbon dioxide and release oxygen. The cells of a leaf are pack in between two layers of epidermal

The only way for gases to diffuse in and out of the leaf is through small openings on the underside of
the leaf, the stomata then open and close according to the plant s needs. The tissues of the leaf in

The electron acceptor of the light reactions, NADP+, is a relation to NAD , which functions as an
electron carrier in cellular respiration. The two molecules differ only by the presence of an extra
phosphate group in the NADP+ molecule. Light reactions use solar power to reduce NADP+ to
NADPH by adding a pair of electrons along with a hydrogen nucleus. The light reactions then
generate ATP by powering the addition of a phosphate group to ADP, a process called
photophosphorylation. Therefore, light energy is converted to chemical energy in the form of two

  • 2. Kojeve s Metaphors ANSWER Q 1 1. Explain Kojeve s metaphor of overcoming the Slavish mentality of given being as compared to the master s being for itself. Select a passage from Kojeve s text and from Coates text and explain how the two passages relate to each other by demonstrating this overcoming as metaphor and the over coming. Coats passage an example of the overcoming process that Kojeve writes about in In Place Of Introduction. The my reading of Kojeve s text IN PLACE OF INTRODUCTION , I noticed that in the Slavery and Mastery systems, the first beginnings of the social life of man are based on power, which means that society is based on strength and it takes the ideal philosophy as a general trait, the power is only the external start of ... What is tragic ... in this situation, writes Kojeve, is acknowledgment here unilateral, for it [the Master] does not recognize the human reality and the dignity of the slave. Therefore, it is recognized by someone He does not recognize . Thus, in a decidedly Marxist way, Kojeve suggests that Man, complete and absolutely free, definitely and completely satisfied with what he is, the perfect man, completed by this satisfaction, will be the slave who has overcome his slavery. If the Inactive Mastery is a stalemate, laborious. Slavery, on the other hand, is the source of all human, social and historical progress. History is the story of the working slave. An advantage that the slave has the Master lies in the fact that he knows the value and reality of autonomy of human freedom; While he cannot experience this value, as he sees it only by recognizing the other as such, the aspiration to overcome, to replace the relation, is there for the Slave. Besides, writes Kojeve, the experience of the struggle which made him a slave predisposes him to the autonomous act, to the negation of himself (negation of his given I, who is a slave) . Another advantage for the slave exists in his ability to: transform the world given by his work ; Therefore, he goes beyond himself, and goes beyond the Master ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Johannes Kepler was born in 1571 and was one of the first strong believers of the heliocentric planetary theory. He discovered the three laws of planetary motion. This German astronomer believed in the Harmonices Mundi, or the Harmonies of the World. In his Harmonices Mundi he spoke of his third law, which was about the relationship between the orbital periods and the distances of the planets from the sun. He believed the sun regulates the velocity of the planets. This fact was a marking point in Astronomy history. This left a path for Newton s theory of universal gravitation. Galileo Galilei was a student at the University of Pisa. He studied medicine, though his real interests were natural philosophy and mathematics. What he is mostly remembered for is his work on free fall, his use of telescopes, and his employment of experimentation. In 1592, he became a professor of the University of Padua. His job was to teach Euclid geometry and standard astronomy to medical students. Instead he taught and lectured a more unconventional form of astronomy and natural philosophy to his medical students. • 7. Comparison Between Explicit And Implicit Memory During the last few decades memory researchers have shown interest in both explicit and implicit memory, drawn comparisons between them and explored techniques to measure them in a variety of settings including advertising and communication effectiveness (Goode, 2007; Samu Krishnan, 2010; Yoo, 2007). Explicit memory refers to conscious and intentional recollection or retrieval of previously stored information or experiences, and is assessed by traditional tests of recognition and recall. In contrast, implicit memory refers to changes in task performance or observed behavior produced by priming effects of prior experiences without the conscious or intentional retrieval of those experiences (Graf Masson, 2013). Memory researchers have empirically investigated this unconscious nature of implicit memory by exploring dissociations between explicit and implicit memory (Gopie, Craik, Hasher, 2011; Mulligan, 2012) in a sense that certain variables like level of processing and divided attention at stimuli exposure impact explicit memory but leave implicit memory unaffected (Bechtel, 2008; Spataro et al., 2013). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this approach, dissociation between an implicit and explicit memory test reflect dissociation in different cognitive operations required at the time of the tests (Roediger, 1990). While explicit memory depends on conceptually driven cognitive operations during encoding and retrieval, implicit memory depends on perceptually driven (data or visually driven) mechanisms (Boehm Sommer, 2012; Mulligan, 2012). More is the extent of overlap of these cognitive operations between encoding and testing conditions, better is the performance on explicit and implicit memory tests (Lee, 2002; Yoo, ... • 8. Lee Harvey Oswald’s Motives for killing President John F.... There have been many papers, books, and articles written on Lee Harvey Oswald s motives for killing President John F. Kennedy. No one knows for sure exactly what motivated him in this horrendous act, but there has been some speculation that a fatherless upbringing or his mental health led the way in making him the most famous assassin of the twentieth century. Lee Harvey Oswald had a rough childhood. He grew up without a father figure in his life so he was lacking direction from the most important source (Biography: Lee Harvey Oswald ). His father died two months before Oswald was born, leaving his mother with three small children. As a result, his mother would frequently neglect and leave Lee with various babysitters (Diamond). These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oswald could be very violent at times and at one point Oswald had spoken about shooting an American President (Oswald s Motive). His friend that he had talked to about this said that he didn t say it jokingly. He was a very violent person and the Russian émigré community from Dallas reported that There is also clear evidence that Oswald...had a history of wife battering (Oswald s Motive). During one fight, he actually tried to kill his wife by strangling her. What he was trying to achieve through his violence was a warped form of control. While Oswald was a violent person, there are also signs that he was also emotionally and mentally unstable, and even his wife was scared for his mental state (Oswald s Motive). Dr. Steven Diamond says that Oswald most likely could have been suffering from psychopathic narcissism (which is the constant need to be admired) and that would have caused him to do what most of the young men who commit such very public crimes seek: facile infamy (Diamond). This most likely was caused by his overwhelming feeling of rejection from his parents and caretakers. Most likely all he wanted was for someone to notice him and to gain immortality (Diamond). Another theory that is put forward is that Lee Harvey Oswald was merely a patsy in some bigger conspiracy. Most conspiracy theories follow along the lines that Oswald didn t commit the horrible crime, and someone else did. When the authorities caught Oswald, he was going into a ... • 9. Examples Of Ideal Beauty And The Venus Of Willendorf Ideal Beauty and the Venus of Willendorf The Venus of Willendorf is said to be the first masterpiece of world sculptures. It belongs to a series of Venus figurines of the Paleolithic period or Old Stone Age. This period was characterized by crude stone and bone weapons, cave paintings, and sculptures. The Venus was found in a small village of Austria called Willendorf, hence the name of the Venus. This groundbreaking discovery was made in 1908 by the archaeologist Josef Szombathy. However, it was not until 1990 when we were able to predict the time when the sculpture was carved. It is believed to have been made between 25,000 B.C.E and 20,000 B.C.E. The sculpture is only 4,4 inches tall and it is made of oolitic limestone, which is a carbonate rock commonly found in India, around the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean Islands, but not Austria. Therefore, archeologists believe that this sculpture was moved from its original place of creation. Continuing with that idea, because of the fact that the sculpture does not have defined feet so it is not able to stand and that it is small and malleable, historians believe that it was originally made to be carried around as a talisman or a sign of good luck, especially for fertility purposes. It is important to notice how the structure of this sculpture highlights some human features (breasts, belly, hips, vulva) while minimizing others, such as arms and legs. The Venus represents the first aesthetic ideas of our early history, which has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In its broadest sense, industry is any work that is undertaken for economic gain and that promotes employment. The word may be applied to a wide range of activities, from farming to manufacturing and tourism. The long term impact of de industrialization has yet to be felt. It may be the speed of the process, rather than the process itself, that needs careful management. Transnational Corporations Probably the most significant industrial development since the 1960s has been the rise of the multinational or transnational company. Examples of these companies, which operate in many countries, are Ford, General Motors, IBM, Siemens, and Matsushita Electrical. United Nations (UN) estimates that investment by transnational companies has risen by 13 per cent per year over the last 20 years, largely because more and more governments are accepting these firms into their countries. Nevertheless, the growth of multinational corporations has raised a number of concerns. An enormous amount of production power is concentrated in the hands of a few controllers, which means that the countries involved become directly susceptible to economic changes in other parts of the world. The transfer of assets from one country to another may be difficult for governments to manage or prevent, and there are likely to be disparities in the treatment of different countries. More often than not families try to hide everything possible from their kids when sometimes explaining to them, without all the dramatic detail, can teach the most. To me, I d rather know what happened and know that it is not something that is accepted but because we are a family and we love each other we choose to work things out, if possible. Without any explanation kids conjure ideas in their heads that end up consuming them which in turn can have a negative effect when they have a family of their own and the same issue arises. Secondly, both men and women work harder, longer hours than ever before. On top of that, to make ends meet, some families end up working completely opposite hours to either get extra money or to work out childcare. When two people rarely see each other, you have a lot of alone time on your hands to either find someone who is awake when you are or someone in general that you can relate to. Just like day shift workers that go to lunch with their coworkers and befriend them, people who work nights do the exact same thing. Overworking yourself can set the tone for exhaustion, vulnerability, and just about anything else that can lead up to finding yourself in someone else s arms. There is not a lot of media coverage in the House as it is in the Senate, members in the Senate are elected every six years as for the House are elected every two years. The House has a reputation of being much more contentious and impulsive when it comes to legislation (enotes.com). This essay is aimed to focus on and examine the importance of having a separation of powers and the reasons for having same in the United Kingdom s constitution. We shall further look into the structure of the United Kingdom s constitution whilst assessing its somewhat unclear separation of powers which exist and assess the reasons why the United Kingdom s system of government does not adhere to the doctrine of the separation of powers. The separation of powers is defined as the political doctrine of constitutional law under which the branches of government are divided to prevent an abuse of power. These three branches are the Legislative, Executive and Judicial and are assigned special powers to maintain a check and balance on each other. In this essay, we shall further go on to discuss the roles and functions of each of the mentioned branches of government and the extent to which this defined separation of power is enforced and/or practiced in the United Kingdom s system of government taking into account the traditional structure that has been maintained over the years. If a patient lungs sounds are normal, the respiratory care practitioner is not concerned due to decrease in obstruction in the airway. Contrary, if the respiratory care practitioner listens to sounds like wheezes, stridor, rhonchi, rales, the practitioner is mostly concerned due to the fact that an increase in obstruction is either in the upper or lower airway. This increase obstruction could lead to decrease tissue oxygenation by causing tissue hypoxia, cyanosis, stagnant or a disease such as chronic bronchitis. Oxygen is the part of the gases that is inhaled by mammals, even though it is not the most abundant in the atmosphere. This oxygen is the function of the blood and the heart, and it is dissolved in the plasma PaO2 and chemically bound to hemoglobin SaO2. They have different plots and different authors, but they can also have similar elements and plot ideas. Some examples of that in a story could be that a character makes a friend, or attempts to achieve a goal. In this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting Old Ben and Fox Hunt , two stories with different plots and similar elements. While some similarities are evident between Old Ben and Fox Hunt , the differences are also distinct. There are many similarities between Old Ben and Fox Hunt . One of them is the use of foreshadowing in both narratives. Foreshadowing is when there are indications throughout the text that hint at events to come. In Old Ben , it is foreshadowed that the snake will die in the end. In Fox Hunt , it is foreshadowed that Lee is the fox spirit. Another similarity is that the two stories both have main characters that are either animals, or have animal characteristics, such as Ben from Old Ben , who is a snake, and Andy, from Fox Hunt , who is part fox. A closing similarity is that both of the stories use narrative structure. Narrative structure is when a narrative is arranged in chronological order. Looking at these examples, we ... Obesity does not only mean a bigger waist line, but also a greater chance at developing life threating health problems. Preventable diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer are increased in individuals who are considered obese (CDC). With obesity at staggering high rates, healthy food choices should be made more available and affordable, while the price of unhealthy food and drinks should be increased to help bring a decline to this ongoing epidemic. The emergence of the middle class in the nineteenth century allowed people not of noble birth to enter the ranks of gentility. Becoming an educated and morally noble gentleman had come within the reach of those who had previously been excluded. Industry made it possible for someone of the working class to elevate his social position through his own efforts. This new definition of the gentleman had a great appeal among the emerging middle class because high birth, the traditional passport to recognition as a gentleman, could be side stepped at least in theory (Platz 152). This new opportunity created a split between the traditional upper classes and the newly established English bourgeoisie. Dickens recognized the paradoxical aspiration toward the position of an idle gentleman through labor. Just as everything else it started from ground zero with a lot of trial and error. Over the years brilliant people such as Adam Smith and countless others have etched into history that best way to manage, whether on a small or large scale. The wake of these people is still being seen today in upcoming companies such as Zappos, who brings fresh and new twists to management as a whole. Smith originally wrote the novel to dismember the thought that mercantilism was a good idea. Only selling goods and gaining nothing from trade in return proved in many cases to not be effective.. Smith wrote of the Invisible Hand which claimed that people, by human nature, look out for their best interest and that in doing so they unknowingly help the economy. Amy claims that organizations can function better with an open systems approach to public relations by employing social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than organizations that function as a closed system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1). Author Amy Reitz took several theories into consideration in the development of this paper, but ultimately decided that a functional analysis approach best described that organizations would benefit better as an open system with help from using social media. The main claim the author tries to convey is, organizations can function better with an open systems approach to public relations by employing social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than organizations that function as a closed system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1). • 37. Weekly Article On Photosynthesis Weekly Summary on Photosynthesis Structure of the Chloroplast: Leafs contain chlorophyll and are the sites of photosynthesis in plants. Their flattened surfaces gather energy from sunlight while openings on their undersides bring in carbon dioxide and release oxygen. The cells of a leaf are pack in between two layers of epidermal cells, which provide the leaf with a waxy, almost impermeable cuticle that defends against water loss. The only way for gases to diffuse in and out of the leaf is through small openings on the underside of the leaf, the stomata then open and close according to the plant s needs. The tissues of the leaf in between the epidermal cells, in which gases diffuse from the stomata, are called mesophyll. Chloroplasts are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The electron acceptor of the light reactions, NADP+, is a relation to NAD , which functions as an electron carrier in cellular respiration. The two molecules differ only by the presence of an extra phosphate group in the NADP+ molecule. Light reactions use solar power to reduce NADP+ to NADPH by adding a pair of electrons along with a hydrogen nucleus. The light reactions then generate ATP by powering the addition of a phosphate group to ADP, a process called photophosphorylation. Therefore, light energy is converted to chemical energy in the form of two compounds which are NADPH, a source of energized electrons, and ATP, the useful energy currency of the light reactions produce no sugar which occurs in the second stage of photosynthesis, which is called the Calvin cycle. Describing the 3 stages of Calvin cycle: A) Fixation stage: In addition to CO2, the stroma and two other mechanisms are present to start the light independent reactions; an enzyme called ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase and three molecules of ribulose bisphosphate. RuBP has five atoms of carbon, bordered by two phosphates. RuBisCO catalyzes a reaction between CO2 and RuBP. For each CO2 molecule that reacts with one RuBP, two molecules of 3 phosphoglyceric acid form. The number of carbon atoms remains the same, as the atoms move to form new bonds during the reactions. This process is called carbon fixation because CO2 is fixed from an inorganic form into organic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
