Kurzweil s Transhumanist Memory Uploading Theory
his position at Google grants him incredible legitimacy in the science tech community, Kurzweil s
participation in TED further reinforces his image as an innovation authority in the eyes of the public.
Despite the incredible popularity TED has around the world, it is TED s scrutinized selection of
speakers that enables Kurzweil to enhance his legitimacy in the tech community. According to
ted.com, TED expects its speakers to be individuals who, run the world s most admired companies and
design its best loved products, who, invent world changing devices and create ground breaking media,
and who, collectively, have won every major prize awarded for excellence, including the Nobel,
Pritzker... While McConnell and Kurzweil both employed popular media as a tool to popularize their
theories, through attending conference with such a high level of intellectual richness and prestige,
Kurzweil not only embrace tremendous popularity in the public, but also brings himself to the top of

Despite the fact that we didn t really dive into the conceptual and technical aspects of Transhumanism
and memory transfer through planarian cannibalism, we decipher the social nuance of how the vain
titles of glory and legitimacy can affect the public s and the scientific community s perception of a
particular theory. However, even if the Transhumanist beliefs are at their peak right now, it is still too
early to predict whether this theory will come to a less desirable end. The technological singularity,

Mayans And Aztecs Comparison Essay
When we compare how different people live, we tend not to focus on how it was all started and what it
means. We compare our history against theirs and see what we come up with, instead of seeing it as a
pure beginning. Comparing things can be seen as difficult due to the fact you can t find something that
may be similar instead of different, and just end up focusing on it. Whether it be against your own
history, or someone else s, you can end up missing a critical part that can make it the most interesting
topic on your mind! Religion, culture, geography, technology and achievements, and art. All topics
that are interesting in their own way. The Mayan s and the Aztecs are a good example. Their different
histories are what make them unique and they both have their own stories to be told, separate, yet have
a unique history that ends up being talked about together.
There are many religious beliefs of a Mayan, and they are formed on the belief that everything in the
world that we live in, contains some sort of sacredness. The terms that they used to describe the
sacredness was K uh and K uhul . This was used to describe the spirituality in the inanimate and

The tools that they created were made from chert (which is a cryptocrystalline sedimentary rock) and
obsidian. The shape and size look identical to the tools that artist use. Another thing that Mayan s had
created was a structure that they used for rainy seasons. It is a short spanning bridge that is used to
transport things over and crossing streams. Mayan mathematics and science was a concept of the
number zero, by 38 BCE. There number system consists of a dot, (representing ones) zero, (a shell
shaped representation) and a bar (representing fives). For their science, it was astrology. Tzolk in, the
Mayan calendar, is comprised of 20 day signs and 13 galactic numbers, making a 260 day calendar

The Brown Auto Company Essay
The Brown Auto Company At the Brown Auto Company, the two partners divided the operational
responsibilities. Robert performed the duties of the primary salesman and the chief mechanic whereas
his brother, Harry, more commonly called Skin, ran the office. The Ford Motor Company shipped
each Model T, colloquially nicknamed the Tin Lizzie, into Bradley on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St.
Paul Railroad only partially assembled. Since the body, frame, engine, wheels, doors, and windows,
each came as parts; the brothers completed the assembly on the rail siding before driving them to the
garage. The Brown Auto Company, which used Bradley s Fourth of July parade to advertise their
product, on at least one occasion, obtained assistance from Robert s multi talented wife, Bessie, for the
design and construction of a float. Using Ford s colors, Bessie decorated the float, which featured a
Model T on a flatbed truck, by sewing many strips of crĂȘpe together to create a huge blue and white
hoop skirt around the car. The float prominently displayed Ford s motto, Henry s Made a Lady out of
Lizzie. Selling cars sometimes required overcoming unique challenges. The owner of Carson s Ranch,
Lloyd Carson, held a contest to determine if he would buy a Ford or a Chevrolet. A Model T from the
Brown Auto Company driven by Robert Brown competed against a Chevrolet from a dealership in
Watertown, South Dakota. Mr. Carson had a long driveway that went around a slough before it
climbed a hill

to move from her family home of Belle Reve in Laurel, Mississippi due to poverty. Blanche suffers
from a form of psychosis that makes it difficult for her to deal with reality. She often hears a music
play when ignoring the truth of a past issue or something she sites not believe. She struggles with
living with her sister and abusive brother in law led her to progressively lose her understanding of

Stella attempts to end poker night; Stanley in his drunken rage, strikes Stella (scene 4). Blanche and
Stella decide to sleep over at the neighbor Eunice s house for the night, but Stella soon returns to
Stanley as he goes to her in tearful remorse. This appalls Blanche as she would not believe in going
back to someone who beat her. Stella is a shy character who is easily silenced by Stanley and she
believes it is normal for the husband to beat his wife because he will realize what he has done and
things will go back to normal quickly, thus she was easily was able to go back to Stanley. Some time
later Blanche and Stella hear Eunice and her husband, Steve getting into a fight, and Steve beats his
wife as well. Blanche begins to understand why Stella would believe Stanley s behavior is normal.
(Scene 5). Seeing this exemplifies the character s belief in violence being a norm despite it having
damaging effects in the relationship. Blanche is waiting and preparing to spend time with Stanley s
friend, Mitch that she has grown a fancy to. Moments point before Mitch arrives, A young Paperboy

Darwin Influences
Darwin was on the ship in the second voyage, His work on the ship made it one of the most famous
ships in history. Darwin was influenced by Thomas Maithus but Darwin was interested by how much
he knew about survival. If one species was resistance to poison its resistance would become stronger
making it s next of kin more resistance to poison. Some differences can be seen, if a two frogs where
the same species then a green frog would live in a forest while the other frog would live somewhere
else. Darwin did publish his book called The Original Species
When a species haves a different formed beak from the others this is called natural selection. This

Compare And Contrast The Articles Of Confederation
After the Revolutionary War, the thirteen colonies of America gained their independence and had to
create their own version of a government. In the year 1777, the Articles of Confederation, written by
John Dickinson, served as the United State s government. More importantly, it provided a basis for the
Constitution and established what America needed to improve on, such as taxes and a form of
currency. The Articles of Confederation gave the U.S. the ability to organize settlements, create peace,
and improve government. The Articles of Confederation implemented two land ordinances in order to
organize settled land. For instance, the first land ordinance, the Land Ordinance of 1785, stated that
towns can only be the size of one square mile. This would prevent towns from being too large and
created a stable environment for them as well. Also, it claimed that land could only be bought from the
government in an effort to reduce debt. The second land ordinance was created in 1787. This land
ordinance was more political in a sense that it imposed slavery in the northwestern states.
Furthermore, it allowed these northwestern states to organize their own government; therefore, the
states were given more power. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

independency, so in order to prevent further debt, they decided to stay out of conflict. For instance, in
1778 a peace treaty was signed between France and the United States. During this time, England and
France were in great conflict, and they were trying to get the states involved. Additionally, the Treaty
of Paris was signed in the year 1783, which ended the American Revolution. These treaties were an
attempt at remaining peace in order for the colonies to escape mass

Causes Of The New Deal
The Great Depression of the 1930 s became one of the United States biggest tragedies and placed
stress upon millions of Americans and their families. President Franklin Roosevelt became every
American s hopeful savior. During this decade of depression, President Roosevelt created the New
Deal blueprint, which included many Federal Agencies, otherwise known as Alphabet Soup, that
focused on addressing the roots of the Great Depression and ways to fix them. The main agencies of
the New Deal were the: Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), Civilian Conservation Corps
(CCC), National Recovery Administration (NRA), Social Security Administration (SSA), Tennessee
Valley Authority (TVA), and Works Progress Administration (WPA). The New Deal was a successful
plan, which included many federal agencies; although most of the agencies were successful, the relief
agencies were the most successful.
President Roosevelt s Alphabet Soup Agencies were created based on his three r s mission: relief,
recovery, and reform. His idea of relief was giving direct aid to the homeless and unemployed. His
goal for his idea of recovery was fixing the economy and focusing on creating jobs and establishing
new successful small businesses. Lastly, President Roosevelt s goal for the nation s reform was to
solve issues within the federal government and create new federal agencies that would prevent another
Great Depression. These three R s were the basis of his New Deal project and the foundations of every
Alphabet Soup Agency.
The recovery based Agriculture Adjustment Administration (AAA), was the first federal program to
place a limit on agricultural production. During the World War One (WWI), agricultural production
was very profitable for Americans because many European countries were unable to produce large
amounts of agriculture, so American agriculture was always in high demand. After WWI ended,
Europeans were able to begin to restore their agricultural industry; thus, making American agriculture
in low demand. This caused items like corn to go from $1.20 per bushel to 26 cents per bushel. Not
only agriculture prices retract back to prewar prices, but farmers began losing their land due to a
decline in the earning power of

An Economic Event Intertwined With Credit Crunch
1.Introduction
An economic event intertwined with credit crunch is the U.S. subprime mortgage crisis. In 2007, the
subprime mortgage crisis dealt a huge economic blow to America and then had a great impact on the
world economy. Although several actions, such as lowered the target for Federal funds rate and the
discount rate, were taken, the crisis still had severe, long lasting consequences, which makes the world
economy still in a slow recovery so far. The credit crunch of 2007 was triggered by several factors.
Analyzing the cause of credit crunch can help us reduce the probability of it and then prevent financial
crisis in the future.
This essay consists of three parts. At first, it will discuss some causes of the credit crunch of 2007. ...

****In the 1990s, shortage of financial capital and low quality borrowers forced the banks to reduce
the loan supply. The credit crunch of 2007 is more complicated than ever before. The first reason was
that the acceleration of globalization involved more international investors, so the credit crunch had
more global implications. And the other reason was that new ways of packaging and reselling assets
had been introduced. Several factors should be taken into account when we trying to figure out what
result in such a crisis.
2.2 The development of subprime mortgage market
****When discussing about the credit crunch of 2007, the United State subprime mortgage crisis is a
good point to start with. The direct cause of this crisis was the bursting of the U.S. housing market
bubble, but things can date back to about 2000. At the beginning of the 21st century, house prices in
America started to experience an unprecedented rate of growth due to a low interest rate environment.
From 1997 2006, according to the Standard Poor s / Case Shiller national home price index, the U.S.
housing prices increased by 124%. There were a number of causes of this phenomena, such as the low
Fed funds rate. Although other western countries also experienced the similar trends, for example,
housing prices in the U.K. increased by 194%, while those

Essay on Cobol
The COBOL programming language is typically used in large scale databases in banks and insurance
companies. Today, COBOL is rarely used to write new software applications. It has been replaced by
the C/C++ programming language, but up until the 80 s all business software was written using
COBOL. This includes but not exclusively accounting, payroll, and large bank applications. COBOL
is still used today due to the high cost in upgrading software, and recent studies show that as many as
twelve million COBOL applications are still used today. Also, a good majority of these are proprietary
and would be extremely hard to redo in a more current language. So it is obvious that COBOL
programs are everywhere, and more importantly our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though better languages have been designed, all the business can t just discard the legacy code in
COBOL, which will cause extra cost and disruption. Over the years, companies have spent billions in
developing their computer systems and there is no way they can afford to dump these and start again
from scratch. The amount of investment in networking equipment is also the reason I don t see us
switching to IPv6 in the near future. Even though it would solve the problem of running out of IP
addresses, the amount of money phone companies and business would have to invest to start from
scratch would be too significant to justify the investment. Also, since COBOL is so well put
structured, programmers can easily learn a modern language with some brief training. Today, it is
estimated that some 70% of all commercial computer applications are written in COBOL. Another
reason that COBOL is still widely used is that it can run on virtually any platform. It can run on
UNIX, Windows, or even various types of desktop computers. It has been used in developing business
applications for around the last 40 years, so it has proven reliability and stability. Because a majority
of this software was written when processors weren t as powerful and memory was limited, good
discipline was exercised when programming these applications. It has been estimated that the industry
has invested over $5 trillion

Violence And Gun Violence
On January 17, 2017, Surge in the Violence was released by the Crime lab at the University of
Chicago, which had combined a report on the statistics of homicides taken place in the year 2015 and
2016. The number of homicides taken place in the year of 2016 has soared by record high of 67
percent than the previous year. Chicago is one of the busiest and advanced cities in the world and
getting such high numbers in the field of crime is a shame and leaves a bad impression on the rest of
the world. The violence related to guns has also increased enormously and according to Chicago
Tribune , 2,958 people have been shot dead by now this year. Though the data shows that the
homicides by gun has decreased significantly but the number is still a problem. The gun violence now
is a serious problem and the current situation demands strict gun laws.
During the past years gun violence has seen an enormous increase in various parts of the world and
majority of the cases been reported in the United States. The case includes victims such as children,
senior citizens and young adults engaging in violence or getting caught in the crossfires. The life of
common people is being affected, people are concerned as to how they can live safe lives when guns
are being used in increasing numbers. On an average, every day you hear about some sort of gun
violence affecting people either in your hometown or in another part of the world. It is a shame for a

The Effect Of Monetary Policy On Determination Of Coal Prices
To examine the effect of monetary policy on determination of coal prices in the U.S., we rely on a
dynamic framework of cointegrated vector autoregression (CVAR). The prerequisite requirement for
the application of the CVAR approach is that the selected variables must be nonstationary (i.e., I(1)
series). The presence of a unit root in the variables is thus tested using the Dickey Fuller generalized
least squares (DF GLS) test (Elliott et al., 1996). Panel A of Table 1 reports the results of the DF GLS
test. Since the null hypothesis of a unit root cannot (can) be rejected for any of the levels (first
differences) of the three variables at the 5% level, all the series are found to be nonstationary I(1)
processes.
It should be emphasized, however, that because of inability of the DF GLS to capture the possibility of
a structural break, the power of the test is likely to decrease with an undetected structural break in the
series, thereby providing misleading results. For completeness, therefore, we investigate unit roots in
the presence of a structural break using the Perron Vogelsang (PV) test. The results of the PV test are
summarized in Panel B of Table 1. As seen in the DF GLS test, the null cannot (can) be rejected for all
the levels (first differences) of the variables, confirming that all the three variables are I(1) series.
Hence, it is certain that the underlying series are apparently all I(1) processes even after taking into
account a structural break in the series,

How Did The Levels And Spheres Of Standard Oil Change Society
With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power discussed in [chapter 3], how did the
power of Standard Oil change society? Was this power exercised in keeping with the social contract of
Rockefeller s era?
With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power discussed in the chapter, Rockefeller and
the powers of Standard Oil had impacts to the society economically, technologically, politically, and
culturally. When Rockefeller was young, he found an investment that would change him for the rest of
his life. The Cleveland petroleum refinery in which he invested $4,000 in 1863, was still in its
beginning stages. However, Rockefeller was devoted to the oil business, soon becoming one the most
successful men in history. Economic power is the ability of the corporation to influence events,
activities, and people by the virtue of control over resources, particularly property. The power of
Standard Oil changed society by leading the economy to economic growth. The Standard Oil business
had built facilities and employed workers. In turn, this had also increased the economy to a fuel
related industry. As Rockefeller had expanded the business of his company, Standard Oil also
improved and perfected their oil refined technology. In terms of a deeper level of the power, the
Standard Oil business sparked the development in other industries, such as the automobile industry.

Female Genital Mutilation is Sexual Abuse Essay
Female circumcision, also known as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), is a very dangerous surgery. It
is done to girls of any age, from a few days old to right before their wedding. The most common age is
three. In most countries where
FGM is practiced the clitoris is considered dangerous to the man. At one point they thought that if a
penis touched a clitoris, it would shrivel up and fall off.
Girls in Africa and parts of Asia are genitally mutilated for family honor, cleanliness, protection
against spells, insurance of virginity and faithfulness to the husband, or to terrorize women out of sex.
In the late 70 s and early 80 s parts of
Europe and the United States used circumcision as a way to cure over sexed or

The third type,
Infibulation, is the most severe and harmful type. In infibulation, the entire clitoris and both labia are
removed. Then the remaining tissue of the vulva are pinned together by catgut or silk sutures. A tiny
slit, for urination and menstruation, is left open by inserting a sliver of wood, a matchstick, or reed
into the vagina. After the surgery, the girl is bound from hip to ankle and kept immobile for 40 days.
This allows scar tissue to form. All three types result in many harmful effects. Most of the effects of
FGM are caused by the surgery taking place in an unsanitary environment. Kitchen knives, scissors,
razor blades, or pieces of glass are the most common instruments used for the cutting. Unless
performed in a hospital, the cutting tool is generally rusty and very dirty. Instead of sterilizing the
instrument between surgeries, it is placed on dirt, ashes, or cow dung. This results in many infections.
Using the same tool on several girls also promotes the spread of HIV. Due to loss of blood and pain
many girls suffer from shock. Many women suffer from pelvic complications. Also urinary retention
and urinary tract infections are common among circumcised women. Due to loss of blood many of the
girls suffer from week bones, often resulting in fractures and breaks. The loss of the clitoris makes it
impossible for the woman to have an orgasm. If the person performing the

Bilingualism And Aging
Healthy aging has become an important field of research of the 21st century. Today, people aged 85
and older are the fastest growing demographics in the United States (Lock Belza, 2017). Aging has
been associated with decline in cognitive performance such as executive functioning, episodic
memory, and attention (Memel, Bourassa, Woolverton, and Sbarra, 2016) as well decline in volume of
such brain structures as grey and white matters (Sowell, Peterson, Thompson, Welcome, Henkenius
Toga, 2003). Therefore, it is important to understand mechanisms and processes that influence decline
in cognitive abilities and brain structures with age to reduce its occurrence or at least to reduce the
speed of its decline (Ska et al., 2009). It is hypothesized that bilingualism promotes healthy cognitive
aging by enhancing the executive control functions, preserving grey matter volume, and contributing
to the cognitive reserve that can delay the onset of dementia in older age.
Bilingualism can be defined as speaking and understanding two languages (MacLeod, Fabiano Smith,
Boegner Pagé Fontolliet, 2012). The main empirical finding for the effect of bilingualism on cognition
is in the evidence for enhanced executive control in bilingual speakers (Bialystok, Craik, Green,
Gollan, 2009). Executive functions encompass cognitive processes involved in control and
management, such as planning, working memory, attention, problem solving, verbal reasoning,
inhibition, mental flexibility, task

Multicultural Excellence
1 Within the four components of Multicultural Excellence, I have experienced a greater expansion of
my awareness in the discrimination of women in the education system. During my high school
education, none of the history classes I took included in their curriculum a chapter on Title IX, and
why it was added. In doing my Title IX research project, I became aware that in our recent history,
before 1972, that there were quotas set in place, limiting the number of female students in a
University. I am glad that legislation has passed removing quotas, but I also became aware that
women are currently still a minority within the STEM majors. I believe this is due to our social
construct here in America.

to understand the worldviews of other people. This also plays an important role on how the family is

the artist who painted it. All the works that one painter painted were put by each other, and so the
works were organized by the artist name except for the stand alone walls. That was were award

composition of the work draws your eyes to where the sun meets the trees. That is where there is the

the sky creates a warm feeling. So there is a contrast of temperatures created by the work. The second

The Benefits Of Swimming As A Sport In History
Swimming
Swimming is a sport and activity that has existed for centuries, ever since the Stone Age. During the
Stone Age men learned to swim to cross rivers and lakes. The activity itself was not practiced
frequently until the 19th century. Great Britain started competitive swimming in early 19th century.
They held many competitions and since then the activity started to become more well known and
started to evolve throughout history. It became known as a sport and it benefited many people. When
the sport first began there was very few races and there wasn t many strokes or ways of swimming. As
it developed in the 19th century there was only the breaststroke which was used by the British, and the
front crawl which was mostly used by the Americans, West Africans, and Pacific Islanders. Swimming
pools, not much later, were being built. When competitions began, it was only for men. The Olympics
for swimming began near the end of the 19th century, 1896. Many events were hosted and there was a
big number of participants. After the Olympics, the sport began to evolve and it became really popular.
Swimming is just like any other sport that helps you stay in shape. It s a really good form of exercise
and has many benefits such as physical, social, and psychological benefits. It can help you stay fit,
healthy, and is a good way to better your social life. It helps you maintain a healthy weight, heart, and

Reflective Writing Using Gibb s Model of Reflection Essay
Reflective Writing Essay
INTRODUCTION
The following reflective writing essay will centre on a particular event that I witnessed. I will be using
Gibbs model of reflection, from Gibbs, G. (1988). For confidentiality purposes, I will name my family
member as Estelita who is a fifty five year old female.
DESCRIPTION
Estelita was experiencing shortness of breath and chest pain. She called an ambulance, whereby a
FRU car arrived, followed by a backup ambulance crew. The FRU responder performed a primary
survey on Estelita, after which she was transported to the nearest hospital by the backup crew who
made her walk to the ambulance at the start of the journey and on her arrival at A E.
FEELINGS

Von Essen (1994) opposed the view that patients placed interpersonal aspects of caring as more
important than care tasks. Interestingly, patients made few comments about technical excellence of
health care professionals. Halldorsdottir and Hamrin s (1997) study found that patients emphasised the
importance of professional competence over interpersonal aspects of care . I think that as patients or
family members, we automatically assume our health carers are technically competent and I felt that a
more humanistic approach would not have exacerbated an already distressing situation. Thorne (1988)
reported that patients perceived that communication with health care professionals was important in
enhancing care quality.
CONCLUSION
The doctor found Estelita s symptoms to be attributed to her condition Fibromyalgia which Wallace,
Daniel J. (2003) states is a form of soft tissue rheumatism. A complaint was sent to the ambulance
service regarding the crew s conduct and a letter of apology was received.
ACTION PLAN
In my future paramedic career, I will adhere to the HPC standard of conduct at all times and try to
continue the chain of care until I handover my patient. Unlike the backup crew, I will try to remain
professional at all times even though I might be faced by time, social and work pressures.

Role Of Justice And The State Of The Athenian Statesman Essay
Although Solon is recognized as an eminent figure in developing the early stages of Athenian
democracy, writings and other accounts of the life and beliefs of the Athenian statesman and writer are
relatively sparse. As a poet, Solon merged political theory with forceful expression to craft poems
centered on the role of justice and the state. Of the scarce secondary descriptions of Solon, Herodotus
s account in The Histories ranks most significant, in which Solon emerges as a sagely but transient
advisor to the myopic monarch Croesus. While Solon s appearance is short lived, the pith of his words
echoes throughout the parable of not only Croesus, but The Histories as a whole. In juxtaposing these
connected works, a clearer image of Solon comes into focus. He is a man obsessively concerned with
complex, interrelated social paradigms authority, happiness, and prosperity, particularly as their
manifestation in society conflicts with his own understanding of justice and morality. Solon s
diagnosis of Athenian society paints a bleak picture of a society founded upon . The citizens are
witless , bent on ruining their great city , while the rulers are unjust in mind , arrogant, greedy, and
unconcerned with the greater good (Solon Fr 4.5 7). Parallel to Athens and its woes is Sardis. Sardis is
a warlike city ruled by Croesus, a zealous and power thirsty monarch willing to attack neighboring
cities under pretexts substantive or trivial , (Herodotus 1.26) in doing so

This shows us that, the administrative authorities practice or perform functions of legislature and
judiciary: this is so because of the impossibility in having rigid form of separation of powers due to
complexity of modern conditions. Generally, for administrative authority or executive to function
well, it needs legislative powers in order to make rules on how to enforce law and also judicial powers
to decide on their own merits. That is why the delegation of quasi legislative and quasi judicial

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Globalization
The term globalization refers to the increasing interconnection of all parts of the world relating to
political, economic, and cultural aspects. One example of this is where clothing companies decide to
outsource some of their manufacturing to countries like China or Vietnam for lower labor cost.
Another example of globalization would be that car parts are manufactured overseas in places like
Japan,Germany, or Korea and assembled in America. A third example of globalization is the Silk
Road, which carried goods as well as ideas and culture all across India and parts of Asia. All of these
examples show different ways in which goods or ideas spread all internationally and all over the
world. Arguably, without globalization, the world wouldn t be as diverse and advanced as it is today.
Globalization has many aspects but three important ones are how technology contributed to it, the
benefits of globalization, as well as the disadvantages of globalization. One of the first topics
regarding globalization is how technology has contributed to it. Throughout history, technology has
played an integral role in the diffusion of ideas or goods over a wide area. However, recent history has
shown advances in technology the likes of which the world has never been before. Technology is
arguably the driving force behind globalization. One of these advances contributes to globalization has
been technology that has made it easier to gain information and through better telecommunication
capabilities. One example of this technology is the internet, which allows people to gain access to a
global variety of information and resources. Another example is telecommunications like calling, e
mailing, instant messaging, and social media, which all help people communicate despite massive
distances. Both of these technological advances contribute to globalization because it allows for ideas
and information to be spread throughout the world without it being physically transported. This
allowed for different regions of the world to interact and exchange ideas, philosophies, information,
and goods There are many of benefits of regions of the world becoming integrated with one another.
One of these benefits that relates to the economic aspect of

Maya Angelou Caged Bird
We will never have true civilization until we have learned to recognize the rights of others. Will

such as freedom, equality, self rage, and the ways of society. The poem illustrates a bird that is in a

Kurzweil s Transhumanist Memory Uploading Theory his position at Google grants him incredible legitimacy in the science tech community, Kurzweil s participation in TED further reinforces his image as an innovation authority in the eyes of the public. However, even if the Transhumanist beliefs are at their peak right now, it is still too early to predict whether this theory will come to a less desirable end. • 3. Mayans And Aztecs Comparison Essay When we compare how different people live, we tend not to focus on how it was all started and what it means. We compare our history against theirs and see what we come up with, instead of seeing it as a pure beginning. Comparing things can be seen as difficult due to the fact you can t find something that may be similar instead of different, and just end up focusing on it. Whether it be against your own history, or someone else s, you can end up missing a critical part that can make it the most interesting topic on your mind! Religion, culture, geography, technology and achievements, and art. All topics that are interesting in their own way. The Mayan s and the Aztecs are a good example. Their different histories are what make them unique and they both have their own stories to be told, separate, yet have a unique history that ends up being talked about together. There are many religious beliefs of a Mayan, and they are formed on the belief that everything in the world that we live in, contains some sort of sacredness. • 4. The Brown Auto Company Essay The Brown Auto Company At the Brown Auto Company, the two partners divided the operational responsibilities. Robert performed the duties of the primary salesman and the chief mechanic whereas his brother, Harry, more commonly called Skin, ran the office. The Ford Motor Company shipped each Model T, colloquially nicknamed the Tin Lizzie, into Bradley on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul Railroad only partially assembled. Since the body, frame, engine, wheels, doors, and windows, each came as parts; the brothers completed the assembly on the rail siding before driving them to the garage. The Brown Auto Company, which used Bradley s Fourth of July parade to advertise their product, on at least one occasion, obtained assistance from Robert s multi talented wife, Bessie, for the design and construction of a float. Using Ford s colors, Bessie decorated the float, which featured a Model T on a flatbed truck, by sewing many strips of crĂȘpe together to create a huge blue and white hoop skirt around the car. The float prominently displayed Ford s motto, Henry s Made a Lady out of Lizzie. Selling cars sometimes required overcoming unique challenges. The owner of Carson s Ranch, Lloyd Carson, held a contest to determine if he would buy a Ford or a Chevrolet. A Model T from the Brown Auto Company driven by Robert Brown competed against a Chevrolet from a dealership in Watertown, South Dakota. • 7. Compare And Contrast The Articles Of Confederation After the Revolutionary War, the thirteen colonies of America gained their independence and had to create their own version of a government. In the year 1777, the Articles of Confederation, written by John Dickinson, served as the United State s government. More importantly, it provided a basis for the Constitution and established what America needed to improve on, such as taxes and a form of currency. The Articles of Confederation gave the U.S. the ability to organize settlements, create peace, and improve government. The Articles of Confederation implemented two land ordinances in order to organize settled land. For instance, the first land ordinance, the Land Ordinance of 1785, stated that towns can only be the size of one square mile. This would prevent towns from being too large and created a stable environment for them as well. Also, it claimed that land could only be bought from the government in an effort to reduce debt. The second land ordinance was created in 1787. This land ordinance was more political in a sense that it imposed slavery in the northwestern states. Furthermore, it allowed these northwestern states to organize their own government; therefore, the states were given more power. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Causes Of The New Deal The Great Depression of the 1930 s became one of the United States biggest tragedies and placed stress upon millions of Americans and their families. President Franklin Roosevelt became every American s hopeful savior. During this decade of depression, President Roosevelt created the New Deal blueprint, which included many Federal Agencies, otherwise known as Alphabet Soup, that focused on addressing the roots of the Great Depression and ways to fix them. The main agencies of the New Deal were the: Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), National Recovery Administration (NRA), Social Security Administration (SSA), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and Works Progress Administration (WPA). The New Deal was a successful plan, which included many federal agencies; although most of the agencies were successful, the relief agencies were the most successful. President Roosevelt s Alphabet Soup Agencies were created based on his three r s mission: relief, recovery, and reform. His idea of relief was giving direct aid to the homeless and unemployed. His goal for his idea of recovery was fixing the economy and focusing on creating jobs and establishing new successful small businesses. Lastly, President Roosevelt s goal for the nation s reform was to solve issues within the federal government and create new federal agencies that would prevent another Great Depression. These three R s were the basis of his New Deal project and the foundations of every Alphabet Soup Agency. The recovery based Agriculture Adjustment Administration (AAA), was the first federal program to place a limit on agricultural production. During the World War One (WWI), agricultural production was very profitable for Americans because many European countries were unable to produce large amounts of agriculture, so American agriculture was always in high demand. After WWI ended, Europeans were able to begin to restore their agricultural industry; thus, making American agriculture in low demand. This caused items like corn to go from $1.20 per bushel to 26 cents per bushel. In 2007, the subprime mortgage crisis dealt a huge economic blow to America and then had a great impact on the world economy. Although several actions, such as lowered the target for Federal funds rate and the discount rate, were taken, the crisis still had severe, long lasting consequences, which makes the world economy still in a slow recovery so far. The credit crunch of 2007 was triggered by several factors. Analyzing the cause of credit crunch can help us reduce the probability of it and then prevent financial crisis in the future. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ****In the 1990s, shortage of financial capital and low quality borrowers forced the banks to reduce the loan supply. The credit crunch of 2007 is more complicated than ever before. The first reason was that the acceleration of globalization involved more international investors, so the credit crunch had more global implications. And the other reason was that new ways of packaging and reselling assets had been introduced. Several factors should be taken into account when we trying to figure out what result in such a crisis. 2.2 The development of subprime mortgage market ****When discussing about the credit crunch of 2007, the United State subprime mortgage crisis is a good point to start with. The direct cause of this crisis was the bursting of the U.S. housing market bubble, but things can date back to about 2000. It has been replaced by the C/C++ programming language, but up until the 80 s all business software was written using COBOL. This includes but not exclusively accounting, payroll, and large bank applications. COBOL is still used today due to the high cost in upgrading software, and recent studies show that as many as twelve million COBOL applications are still used today. Also, a good majority of these are proprietary and would be extremely hard to redo in a more current language. So it is obvious that COBOL programs are everywhere, and more importantly our ... Even though it would solve the problem of running out of IP addresses, the amount of money phone companies and business would have to invest to start from scratch would be too significant to justify the investment. Also, since COBOL is so well put structured, programmers can easily learn a modern language with some brief training. Today, it is estimated that some 70% of all commercial computer applications are written in COBOL. Another reason that COBOL is still widely used is that it can run on virtually any platform. It can run on UNIX, Windows, or even various types of desktop computers. It has been used in developing business applications for around the last 40 years, so it has proven reliability and stability. Violence And Gun Violence On January 17, 2017, Surge in the Violence was released by the Crime lab at the University of Chicago, which had combined a report on the statistics of homicides taken place in the year 2015 and 2016. The number of homicides taken place in the year of 2016 has soared by record high of 67 percent than the previous year. Chicago is one of the busiest and advanced cities in the world and getting such high numbers in the field of crime is a shame and leaves a bad impression on the rest of the world. The violence related to guns has also increased enormously and according to Chicago Tribune , 2,958 people have been shot dead by now this year. Though the data shows that the homicides by gun has decreased significantly but the number is still a problem. The gun violence now is a serious problem and the current situation demands strict gun laws. • 16. The Effect Of Monetary Policy On Determination Of Coal Prices To examine the effect of monetary policy on determination of coal prices in the U.S., we rely on a dynamic framework of cointegrated vector autoregression (CVAR). The prerequisite requirement for the application of the CVAR approach is that the selected variables must be nonstationary (i.e., I(1) series). The presence of a unit root in the variables is thus tested using the Dickey Fuller generalized least squares (DF GLS) test (Elliott et al., 1996). Panel A of Table 1 reports the results of the DF GLS test. Since the null hypothesis of a unit root cannot (can) be rejected for any of the levels (first differences) of the three variables at the 5% level, all the series are found to be nonstationary I(1) processes. It should be emphasized, however, that because of inability of the DF GLS to capture the possibility of a structural break, the power of the test is likely to decrease with an undetected structural break in the series, thereby providing misleading results. For completeness, therefore, we investigate unit roots in the presence of a structural break using the Perron Vogelsang (PV) test. The results of the PV test are summarized in Panel B of Table 1. As seen in the DF GLS test, the null cannot (can) be rejected for all the levels (first differences) of the variables, confirming that all the three variables are I(1) series. Hence, it is certain that the underlying series are apparently all I(1) processes even after taking into account a structural break in the series, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. How Did The Levels And Spheres Of Standard Oil Change Society With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power discussed in [chapter 3], how did the power of Standard Oil change society? Was this power exercised in keeping with the social contract of Rockefeller s era? With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power discussed in the chapter, Rockefeller and the powers of Standard Oil had impacts to the society economically, technologically, politically, and culturally. When Rockefeller was young, he found an investment that would change him for the rest of his life. The Cleveland petroleum refinery in which he invested $4,000 in 1863, was still in its beginning stages. However, Rockefeller was devoted to the oil business, soon becoming one the most successful men in history. Economic power is the ability of the corporation to influence events, activities, and people by the virtue of control over resources, particularly property. The power of Standard Oil changed society by leading the economy to economic growth. The Standard Oil business had built facilities and employed workers. In turn, this had also increased the economy to a fuel related industry. As Rockefeller had expanded the business of his company, Standard Oil also improved and perfected their oil refined technology. In terms of a deeper level of the power, the Standard Oil business sparked the development in other industries, such as the automobile industry. It is done to girls of any age, from a few days old to right before their wedding. The most common age is three. In most countries where FGM is practiced the clitoris is considered dangerous to the man. At one point they thought that if a penis touched a clitoris, it would shrivel up and fall off. Girls in Africa and parts of Asia are genitally mutilated for family honor, cleanliness, protection against spells, insurance of virginity and faithfulness to the husband, or to terrorize women out of sex. After the surgery, the girl is bound from hip to ankle and kept immobile for 40 days. This allows scar tissue to form. All three types result in many harmful effects. Most of the effects of FGM are caused by the surgery taking place in an unsanitary environment. Kitchen knives, scissors, razor blades, or pieces of glass are the most common instruments used for the cutting. Unless performed in a hospital, the cutting tool is generally rusty and very dirty. Instead of sterilizing the instrument between surgeries, it is placed on dirt, ashes, or cow dung. This results in many infections. Using the same tool on several girls also promotes the spread of HIV. Due to loss of blood and pain many girls suffer from shock. Many women suffer from pelvic complications. • 19. Bilingualism And Aging Healthy aging has become an important field of research of the 21st century. Today, people aged 85 and older are the fastest growing demographics in the United States (Lock Belza, 2017). Aging has been associated with decline in cognitive performance such as executive functioning, episodic memory, and attention (Memel, Bourassa, Woolverton, and Sbarra, 2016) as well decline in volume of such brain structures as grey and white matters (Sowell, Peterson, Thompson, Welcome, Henkenius Toga, 2003). Therefore, it is important to understand mechanisms and processes that influence decline in cognitive abilities and brain structures with age to reduce its occurrence or at least to reduce the speed of its decline (Ska et al., 2009). It is hypothesized that bilingualism promotes healthy cognitive aging by enhancing the executive control functions, preserving grey matter volume, and contributing to the cognitive reserve that can delay the onset of dementia in older age. Bilingualism can be defined as speaking and understanding two languages (MacLeod, Fabiano Smith, Boegner PagĂ© Fontolliet, 2012). The main empirical finding for the effect of bilingualism on cognition is in the evidence for enhanced executive control in bilingual speakers (Bialystok, Craik, Green, Gollan, 2009). Executive functions encompass cognitive processes involved in control and management, such as planning, working memory, attention, problem solving, verbal reasoning, inhibition, mental flexibility, task ...
