Friendship Is The True Meaning Of It
Friendship, something that we all have but something that we may not really understand the true
meaning of it. During the reading Thoreau goes into detail of how friends are really not what we think
them to be. We often don t actually have friends but rather just acquaintances or companions. He goes
on to explain who are real friends are and why they are our friends and that no one else really is.
Thoreau states, What is commonly called friendship even is only a little more honor among rogues (p.
144). This brings attention to that a friendship is slightly more than someone who is dishonest to you.
Your friend will only tell the truth once in a while. They do what they believe to be best for you. When
we have friends we are only saying they are not our enemy (p. 143). Our friend may not always be
someone we get along with greatly but someone whom we do not dishonor. We are not at war with
them or out to make their lives inferior. We respect who they are and what they do but only because
we are friends with them and not enemies.
A friend should be treated no better than I (they) should be (p. 143) says Thoreau. If a man deserves to
be treated as one who is disrespectful or dishonest then that is how they shall be treated. Can we
consider our neighbors friends? We treat them the way the deserve to be treated because they living
next to us. Some neighbors get along and are friends only because they are next to each other. Other

William The Conqueror Oath
Feudalism was a dominant social system in the medieval Europe, in which the nobility held lands
from the Crown in exchange for military service, and vassals were in turn tenants of the nobles, while
the peasants were obliged to on their lord s land and give him homage, labor, and a share of the
produce, notionally in exchange for military protection. It lasted for many centuries, and was
introduced after William I defeated Harold at the Battle of Hastings. William was known as William
the Conqueror. He was known for his defeation over the Enlgish army. He wanted to be the king of
England, but before he could become the king he had to take over all of England. He forced his way to
London, but was not popular with people from England. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He figured that ifthe noblemen were willing to fight with him in battle and possibly lose their lives
that they were probably pretty loyal to him. They still had to work their land though. They had to
collect taxes and provide soldiers to William if war broke out. The noblemen also had to take an oath
before they got this land. They would take the oath over a bible which was a very important thing.
Very few people would break that oath because they feared being condemned to hell. The tenants in
cheif were the nobleman in a particular area. If you took the oath for a certain part of land, then you
are to take care of that land and anything that happens there. If anything is to go wrong you are to act
as if you are William. You are in charge. They soon divided their land into pieces because it was still
too large to govern. The tenants divided their land and the little pieces of land were given to trusted
Norman Knights, but they also had to be willing to fight for the tenants that gave the land. They still
had to collect taxes and provide soldiers as well. The people were always treated pretty harshly and
Norman knights were always a constant threat to fight against the England soldiers. The sub tenants,
the knights, were to keep the English people in their place. That was the only job they had, and if they
failed they were

Sumo Spirito Research Paper
The heritage of the Conquista, the conquest of Middle and South America by the Spanish presents
itself nowadays mostly in a culinary fashion: cocoa, chocolate, corn, tomatoes. Albeit living in a
global age, lesser known and little researched is the music origination in the New World; music that
interlinks the cultures of three continents. Beside the less pleasant actions undertaken by both the
European clerical and secular subjugators, it was also the conquistadores that brought music along
with them from the old continent. This music quickly spread throughout the colonies and settlements.
Exposed to local influences, the music was soon shaped to please the local ear. After all, when the
Dominican and the Jesuit missionaries took off to preach the gospel, music was one of their most
important messengers. Most notably in Mexico, Bolivia and Peru, a breathtaking wealth of music has
been written in the 17th and 18th century. Even though we are not to forget the brutal ... Show more

Jermaine Lamarr Cole Essay
On January 28, 1985 Jermaine Lamarr Cole was born in Frankfurt Germany. Better known as J. Cole,
he s become one of the biggest rappers in the game alongside Kendrick Lamar and Drake. As much as
it seems like I criticize Cole, over the years he turned into one of my favorite all time rappers. To
celebrate the Birthday of J. Cole, I wanted to take the time and look back on the projects he provided
for listeners. In my humble opinion, here is the order in which I rank his projects. These are my views

#7: Born Sinner (2013)
While I wont necessarily say that Born Sinner was a bad album, to me it was definitely his lowest
point. The album was dark, slow, and I hate to say it but boring in a way. Land of the Snakes and

I ve been on the record multiple times saying that I believe this album was better than TPAB and
should have won at least one Grammy. Unlike 4 Your Eyez Only , this was a concept album in which
you can actually enjoy listening to. The way the album goes from his birth, to his awkward teenage
years, to ultimately signing a record deal was done flawlessly. He didn t have a traditional radio record
which didn t stop him from getting radio spins. Fire Squad was so good it made me look at two of my
favorite musicians in Justin Timberlake and Eminem funny for a few weeks. This album can be played
at any time and I still get excited two years later whenever it comes on. This was the album in which I
can say that Cole figured it out. A full album of lyrics which at the same time is catchy and easy to
listen to. You didn t need a certain level of inteligence to enjoy this album and on top of that, he went

Comparing The Skeletal System And Muscular System
In the process of walking to the pantry, grabbing the items I need, putting the dogs leash on, and
getting my favorite running sneakers, involves several different systems. To be standing and walking
involves the skeletal system and muscular system. The skeleton s bones give support and shape to the
body, and bones protect the internal organs of the body. The skeleton supports the body, and the
skeletal allows the muscles attached to the leg bones and help the legs move together. So by me

Strategic Capital Management 1. The market capitalization is equal to the total value of the tradable
shares of a publicly traded company; it is equal to the share price times the number of shares
outstanding.
Therefore, knowing that on December 9, 1988, the share of the Creative Computers was traded at
$22.75 and UBID at $35.6875 and also that Creative Computers had 10.238.703 shares outstanding
and UBID 9.146.883, their market capitalization was:
Creative Computers: $22,75 * 10.238.703 = $232.930.493,25
UBID: $35,6875 * 9.146.883 = $326.429.387,0625 The stub value of Creative Computers represents

Margin long = .5 * Value shares bought CC = $116.465.246,625
Initial amount Elena has to put up:
Margin short + Margin long = $247.093.487,625 (50% of both positions)
*we took number of shares bought = 10.238.703 and shorted: 7.320.672,645
(0.715 * 10.238.703).
4. Return on the strategy:
December 18:
Value of strategy: (28,875 0,715*53,125)* 10.238.703 = $ 93.268.185,140625
Return = ( 93.268.185,140625+28.326.011)/ 247.093.487,625 = 26,28%

December 23:
Value of strategy: (59,6875 0,715*188) * 10.238.703 = $ 765.163.871,9475
Return = ( 765.163.871,9475+28.326.011)/ 247.093.487,625 = 298,2%
5. The number p of shares bought is: 10.238.703, so the number of shares shorted is 0,715 * p =

Pacemaker Impact On Society
Some 400,000 Americans die annually from abnormally fast or irregular heart rhythm, FDA said in
announcing approval of the pacemaker device in February 1993. Since this approval, thousands of
Americans suffering from irregular heart rhythm are able to live a healthy and happy life thanks to this
invention. Because of this small device, symptoms are relieved, lives are longer, and people are able to
live life to the fullest. It s a big breakthrough, said David B. Delurgio, an Emory University
cardiologist. It s not for every heart failure patient, but a proportion could definitely benefit
(Neergaard). Pacemakers have impacted many important aspects of society including the ability to
contribute in the workplace, benefits in the economy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I ve mentioned earlier, symptoms of individuals before pacemaker implantation can be completely
debilitating. Getting a pacemaker can be life changing for people who were never able to experience
life to the fullest beforehand. Statistics show that 68 percent of pacemaker patients reported improved
quality of life, and in this study 579 patients using the pacemaker experienced significant
improvement. One standard heart failure test measures how far patients can walk in six minutes.
Those whose pacemakers were turned on could walk, on average, 58 more yards than patients in a
comparison group whose pacemakers were turned off (Neergaard). With a pacemaker, people who
were never able to travel are now able to. Patients can even have their pacemaker evaluated in almost
any part of the world, and it is safe to pass through airport security checks in the normal fashion
(Wood). They can also help people who have abnormal heart rhythms resume a more active lifestyle,
and participate in sports, etc (medicinenet). Pacemakers are rate responsive, which means it contains a
sensor to detect need for increased rate. Some gauge responses by body movement, a person s
breathing, or even changes in blood temperature. Thus, if a person starts to walk or run, the device
senses the activity and increases the heart rate. Many pacemakers even automatically

Essay about Small Change
Small Change What determines a movement? Malcolm Gladwell defines what pushes a movement to
make a difference. He analyzes the concept of strong ties and weak ties and how these relationships
affect an individual s willpower and determination to help a cause. Gregory Orr puts these ideas into
context in his memoir, Return to Hayneville , in which he recounts his experience and involvement in
the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Malcolm Gladwell s Small Change: Why the Revolution Will
Not Be Tweeted , focuses, in particular, on the civil rights movement concentrates to the lunch counter

emancipations are given a real world setting, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orr s experience helped him learn about himself and primarily helps an individual discover the
importance of living. Gladwell would classify Orr as someone who shared no relationship with the
cause and only joined because because he wanted to find himself in the midst of chaos not necessarily
because he was passionate about the civil rights movement. Gladwell describes the movement of sit
ins across the south as a fever . Orr found himself caught up in the contagion, he endured the beatings
and the injustice the same as everyone else but his motives were not set for civil rights, he realized this
when he was taken and held captive, Even as I sank into depression and brooded in the stifling heat of
that jail barn, I was learning that I wanted to live, (Orr, 223). When he was released Orr left without
alerting the COFO office because he felt ashamed. It was easy for him to walk away from the cause
for him to walk away from the cause because he as he left he wasn t leaving anything or anyone
behind. Gladwell s explains that weak ties seldom lead to high risk activism (Gladwell, 137). In
Gregory Orr s essay, Return to Hayneville , published by The Virginia Quarterly Review, Orr revisited
the place of his abduction by armed vigilantes in Alabama as a Civil Rights worker in 1965. Even
though the events of this essay take place in 1965, for Orr it started with the death of his younger
brother in a hunting accident when Orr was

Short Story On Deadweather
Nobody lived on Deadweather but us and the pirates. It wasn t hard to understand why. For one thing,
the weather was atrocious. Eleven months out of twelve, it was brutally hot and humid, with no wind
at all, so on a bad day the air felt like a hot, soggy blanket smothering you from all sides. And the
other month was September, which meant hurricanes. Then there was the volcano. It hadn t actually
blown in ages, but it belched smoke and shook the earth enough to scare away anybody who might ve
overlooked the pirates and the weather. The only reason it didn t scare me, even though plenty of
things do, was because I d been born and raised halfway up its slope and didn t know any different.
That s how I felt about the pirates, too. There were two kinds on Deadweather: the normal ones, who
hung around down in Port Scratch, drinking and getting into knife fights whenever they weren t off
raiding Cartager gold ships; and the busted down, broken ones, who d lost too many limbs or eyes or
organs to crew a ship, but not enough to kill them outright. A few of those stayed in the Scratch,
patching together a living in the taverns and the gun shops, but most of them hobbled up the mountain
to work for Dad on the ugly fruit plantation. I don t know what he paid them it couldn t have been

How To Write A Photo Analysis Essay
The weak fall, but the strong will remain and never go under, stated by Anne Frank. I settle on this

to the readers that it suggests the simple act of kindness given to individuals who need happiness.

simple fact of giving and receiving. The photo shows the opportunity to help the ones in desperate
need. This photo works as a powerful representation of individuals in need. The young girl has all the
opportunities in life to do what she wants and still gives her time to help the young boy. That is shown
by the illustration of the young girl offering the young boy a balloon. Everyone needs a helping hand
at a certain time in their life. Most importantly not everyone knows what people go through but the
best option is to offer support whether or not they will accept it. In addition, the worse act that can be

thought is invoked because in the photo it is shown that the young boy does not accept the balloon that

Human Spinal Deformities Using 3d Reconstruction Techniques
Literature Survey on Human Spinal Deformities using 3D Reconstruction Techniques
Introduction:
Spine and its deformities: Scoliosis is a complex three dimensional (3 D) deformation of the trunk that
requires orthopedic treatment in 5 out of 1000 persons [1]. It is described as a lateral deviation of the
spine (Fig. 1), combined with asymmetric deformation and axial rotation of the vertebrae, deformation
of the rib cage and possibly of the pelvis.
The human spine is divided into cervical (7 vertebrae C1 C7), thoracic (12 vertebrae Tl T12), and
lumbar (5 vertebrae L1 L5) sections above a fused sacrum (Fig. 2). While the spine normally has no
lateral curvature, there are normal side view curves including lumbar lordosis, thoracic kyphosis and
cervical lordosis. Scoliotic curves are considered thoracic when the apex lies between T2 and T11,
thoracolumbar at T12 L1, and lumbar from L2 L5. Each vertebra consists of an anterior weight
bearing vertebral body and posterior elements that protect the spinal cord and enable muscular and
ligamentous attachments (Fig. 3). Particularly in severe scoliotic curves, asymmetric loads on the
vertebrae encourage asymmetric growth of the vertebral elements, with one result being that despite a
substantial underlying spinal curve the spinous processes may deform to produce a relatively straight
line on the back surface. The spine, composed of vertebrae connected by fluid filled intervertebral
discs, is a loose and

Theme Of Silence In Waiting For Godot
Postmodern literature depicts the degradation of human psyche and the struggle of the man to find his
identity after destruction that the World War II caused to the humanity. The war ruined the human
values and every human being had lost the sense of moral and immoral. Harold Pinter s The Dumb
Waiter and Samuel Beckett s Waiting for Godot belong to the postmodern literary category that
showcase in the most comic and tragic way the pessimistic vision of humanity struggling vainly to
find a purpose in their existence. Vladimir and Estragon, Ben and Gus are the hopeless and anxious

Power Leads to Corruption
Power makes individuals corrupt
Corruption is when people in positions of entrusted power abuse their power for their own personal
gains [or to fulfill the agendas of the group they represent] (Transparency International). Lord Acton, a
nineteenth century historian, argued that power is the root cause of corruption. The more power one
has, the more corrupt one is likely to become ( Biography of Lord Acton. ). Although some
commentators argue that there is no correlation between power and corruption, however Lord Acton
was right because power makes individuals egocentric, makes the powerful less sympathetic towards
those who are inferior, and makes a person hypocrite.
First of all, power is such a tool that it makes individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They instead increased their own budgets as compared to the last budget and all of this was at the cost
of low subsidies on essential food items, electricity and other the necessities of life (Ali, Kalbe. Areas
That Matter Most. ). Hence a logical conclusion that follows is that powerful individuals use their
power for their personal gains and are not concerned about the effect of their doings on the society.
Another major reason because of which power tends to corrupt is that people with absolute power
usually become less sympathetic towards those with no or less power and do not consider the
perspective of other individuals. Adam Galinsky, a psychologist at Northwestern University conducted
a series of experiments to find whether powerful individual give importance to others or not. As part
of the experiment, Galinsky asked the participants to write letter E on their forehead. The results of the
experiment showed that participant who were primed with the feeling of power wrote E backward,
when seen by another person (Lehrer, Jonah. How Power Corrupts. ). This experiment clearly shows
how powerful individuals see the world through their own eyes and do not care for what other view.
Besides this, example from history also proves the point

Jim Crow Law Effect
During the time period when the Jim Crow Law was in effect, African Americans suffered drastically
in the state of Louisiana including sharecroppers, factory workers and laborers. It was a law that
separated blacks and whites, giving the whites the ability to denote and feel superior to African
Americans. The Jim Crow laws economically affected African Americans in Louisiana prior to the
Civil Rights Movement for a variety of reasons. The first reason is that the Jim Crow Law lead to
unemployment; black farmers earned very little which caused them to go in debt forcing thousands of
them to migrate. Another reason is that the Jim Crow Law affected African Americans socially causing
a less opportunities for them to succeed, therefore affected them economically. Violence was another
effect from the Jim Crow Law which traumatize and torture blacks during this dreadful time, which

Sontag s Metaphors
Tics are involuntary movements and fighting them off until a person suffering from Tourette s is alone
can be challenging. Hollenbeck described himself fighting off his tics and then letting them out
whenever he was alone as being a dolphin coming up to breath (Hollenbeck 3). Sontag would disagree
with using this metaphor because comparing letting out a stifled tic to a dolphin performing a
necessary task for life is wrong. Letting out tics will not save the life of those who have the urges, yet
coming up for air will save a dolphin. I disagree with Sontag because I think that this metaphor
compares the two situations and make understanding tics easier. Many people who have Tourette s
will say that it is difficult to suppress a tic, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

works compared to others. On a website explaining how to tell a child they have Tourette s, it says to
describe the brain as the boss of the body and how it has messengers to help it ( Telling Children about
TS para. 12). It describes Tourette s as a disease where there are too many messengers helping the
brain (para. 12). This could be helpful to explaining the syndrome to children because it helps breaks
down how the brain functions in terms the children would understand. Sontag, however, would say
that this is still unacceptable and that it can be seen as romanticizing the syndrome. It could be making
the syndrome seem a lot more positive than it really is and make it seem as though it is desirable
because of the extra help in the brain. Although I agree with Sontag that metaphors should not be used
to describe illnesses of multiple or unknown causes, I think that this metaphor could be seen as
helpful, because it helps explain Tourette s in simple terms so that children that have Tourette s can

Essay On Should Athletes Get Paid Too Much
To be successful in today s society, there is one word that comes to mind, money. Money controls
people, motivates people, and is essentially the drive for many of the decisions a person makes in their
life. The American government does what they can to make success possible for the majority of
citizens, yet over 46 million Americans are living in poverty. How can it be that the wealthiest nation
in the world has so many people living in poverty? What is all of our money being put towards? While
there are many good answers for this question, one is in the corrupt world of professional athlete
salaries. The amount of money put into professional athletics is unbelievably too much. We have so
many hardworking, underpaid Americans who deserve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So it would make sense that these people deserve salaries that put them above everybody on the
wealth scale. These people are required to spend a large amount of money and time to get where they
are, so why do they make just a fraction of what athletes make? To be more specific, an average
doctor has to work everyday for 76 years to make what professional boxer Floyd Mayweather makes
in a single fight, even if he loses. A backup quarterback may never play a single snap in a game but he
still will make three times as much as surgeon on average. If that isn t enough, how about the fact that
in one week the Brooklyn Nets starting five players make just slightly less than all nine supreme court
justices make in a year. There is no doubt that athletes do spend just as much time and money, if not
more, as those who have professional occupations, but it all comes down to what each occupation
group really does for the country. Our country simply could not function without people like Doctors,
Surgeons, Engineers, and government officials, and while we may think we could not function without
sports, we could. So why should a occupation that does nothing but entertain people make much more
than the people that keep the country

style in The Taming of The Shrew influenced modern day literature. Queen Elizabeth played a huge

Identity In The Metamorphosis
In order to be aware of Gregor s transformation in The Metamorphosis, Lacan s theory of
understanding reality, supports the idea of identity. Lacan realizes through the mirror stage that it is
one thing to see a reflection of oneself, though, it is more complex than this, since a reflection of
someone is just an image, one s identity is more than we can see (Lacan 72). In other words, one must
alienate themselves from others to compare and reach self recognition. According to Kafka s story,
Gregor has felt isolated from the start, and because he travels for his job he barley makes any social
interaction, hence his basis for relationships relies in his family unit where his identity is based on
false recognition. But before Gregor s metamorphosis, he was seen as something ... Show more

It is not until Gregor s mother faints at the sight of him that Gregor feels like a monster, and she
further dehumanizes Gregor by removing furniture from his room (Kafka, 1915). A person is not a
person if they have no purpose. The pressure from Gregor s job, and the provision from his family
consume his conscience and nothing is left for him other than what his family has intended him to be.
This can be related to Lacan s theory of the Imaginary; this idea is associated with the ego (Freud s
notion of an individual which serves as a mediator) (Falasiri 2016). The imaginary related to Kafka s
story is the image of the insect, between what is real what is unreal, Gregor defines himself as a
subject rather than a human being based on other s interpretations of his actions. Therefore, the
pressure to be productive as a human, actually dehumanizes Gregor physically and mentally, as his
identity has morphed him into something worthless than a human. And overall, although Gregor is an
insect, he is not anxious by his appearance, but how others view

Erich Fromm s The Art Of Loving
Love. Let this word sink deep into the abyss that is your mind for a moment. What thoughts, if any,
come rushing to the forefront? Is it your family, a girlfriend or boyfriend, an object? Love, it is an all
too powerful word that is often tossed around with reckless abandon in today s fast paced and ever
advancing society. The question is: is true love something that is attainable in the world we live in or
are there too many obstacles in our path that mitigate the chance to find the greatest part of what
makes us human? Erich Fromm raises this question, among others, in his book The Art of Loving.
To begin with, society today is as interconnected as it has ever been. With the advent of social media,
in all its forms, whether it is Snapchat or Twitter, a person in today s world can communicate with
anyone they please with a touch of a few buttons. The world is practically in our pocket. Although it
may seem like we are never alone, are individuals in our society really more alone than ever? Is this
aloneness the reason why nearly 49.1 percent of 12th graders have turned to illicit drugs? According to
Fromm this separateness is the very reason some choose this route: While they try to escape from
separateness by taking refuge in alcohol or drugs, they feel all the more separate after the orgiastic
experience is over, and thus are driven to take recourse to it with increasing frequency and intensity.
(Fromm 13) This aloneness, whether some realize it or not, lies in the

Although the original movie was quite saddening in that part, if the movie was more happy spirited in
that part, this song would fit like a glove onto a hand. It could quietly and slowly play and as Scout

I have seen several occasions online specifically where the nurse or doctor is a person of color and the

opinion, this is a form of anchoring simply because the patient is taking a small amount of
information, the color of the physician s skin without looking at their work experience or
certifications. The specific issue I was referencing pertain to biases regarded the patients being treated

symptoms if the physician was experiencing tunnel vision they would assume the patient had the flu

Capitalism And Catholic Social Teaching
Over the 20th century, numerous conflicts and wars were fought over which economic system is better
capitalism or communism . To summarize, capitalism encourages a free market, where competition
between businesses drives the market. In communist societies, the government is in control of private
property and means of production. These viewpoints held on the economy s days since Cory do not
necessarily match up with Catholic Social Doctrine, which disagrees with the moral relativism of
Unregulated capitalism. It also disagrees with the religious suppression characterizing communist

Ideally, a communist government values the rights of the impoverished, workers and others. Both
Catholic Socialist Teachings and communism, as envisioned by Marx and Engels, suggest a more
collectivist approach to society by comparison to what is advocated for by capitalism, which placed
less emphasis on society s collective. One particular element of communist teachings/government is
the disdain for religion within the ideology. Karl Marx himself was known to have a negative view of
organized religion, and this is expressed within his writings. To Marx, religion was a means of
suppressing the lower classes, and placating them so that they would hot be hostile towards the rulers
of European governments and industrial tycoons of the time. Marx s disdain for organized religion
went on to affect cultures of societies with communist governments. For example, in Russia, the
revolution and the following rise of the Soviets led to decreased influence of the Russian Orthodox
Church, as the state was officially atheist. The attitude towards religion in communist thought has an
obvious conflict with the principles of Catholicism, when this difference in religious belief (or lack

taken on by a local government and its community. Opened in the mid 1990 s, The Edward Jones
Dome once served as a beacon of hope for the people of St. Louis for their newly acquired football
team. Fans and taxpayers were promised that the acquisition of the team would generate ... Show more

revenue is lost along with it. With a negative ATC and MC linked to the marginal revenue, a franchise
reaches a point where it can no longer produce at a loss, forcing the owner to seek for a new market of

  • 2. Friendship Is The True Meaning Of It Friendship, something that we all have but something that we may not really understand the true meaning of it. During the reading Thoreau goes into detail of how friends are really not what we think them to be. We often don t actually have friends but rather just acquaintances or companions. He goes on to explain who are real friends are and why they are our friends and that no one else really is. Thoreau states, What is commonly called friendship even is only a little more honor among rogues (p. 144). This brings attention to that a friendship is slightly more than someone who is dishonest to you. Your friend will only tell the truth once in a while. They do what they believe to be best for you. When we have friends we are only saying they are not our enemy (p. 143). Our friend may not always be someone we get along with greatly but someone whom we do not dishonor. We are not at war with them or out to make their lives inferior. We respect who they are and what they do but only because we are friends with them and not enemies. A friend should be treated no better than I (they) should be (p. 143) says Thoreau. If a man deserves to be treated as one who is disrespectful or dishonest then that is how they shall be treated. Can we consider our neighbors friends? We treat them the way the deserve to be treated because they living next to us. Some neighbors get along and are friends only because they are next to each other. Other will not get along so well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William The Conqueror Oath Feudalism was a dominant social system in the medieval Europe, in which the nobility held lands from the Crown in exchange for military service, and vassals were in turn tenants of the nobles, while the peasants were obliged to on their lord s land and give him homage, labor, and a share of the produce, notionally in exchange for military protection. It lasted for many centuries, and was introduced after William I defeated Harold at the Battle of Hastings. William was known as William the Conqueror. He figured that ifthe noblemen were willing to fight with him in battle and possibly lose their lives that they were probably pretty loyal to him. They still had to work their land though. They had to collect taxes and provide soldiers to William if war broke out. The noblemen also had to take an oath before they got this land. They would take the oath over a bible which was a very important thing. Very few people would break that oath because they feared being condemned to hell. The tenants in cheif were the nobleman in a particular area. If you took the oath for a certain part of land, then you are to take care of that land and anything that happens there. If anything is to go wrong you are to act as if you are William. You are in charge. They soon divided their land into pieces because it was still too large to govern. The tenants divided their land and the little pieces of land were given to trusted Norman Knights, but they also had to be willing to fight for the tenants that gave the land. They still had to collect taxes and provide soldiers as well. The people were always treated pretty harshly and Norman knights were always a constant threat to fight against the England soldiers. • 5. Sumo Spirito Research Paper The heritage of the Conquista, the conquest of Middle and South America by the Spanish presents itself nowadays mostly in a culinary fashion: cocoa, chocolate, corn, tomatoes. Albeit living in a global age, lesser known and little researched is the music origination in the New World; music that interlinks the cultures of three continents. Beside the less pleasant actions undertaken by both the European clerical and secular subjugators, it was also the conquistadores that brought music along with them from the old continent. This music quickly spread throughout the colonies and settlements. Exposed to local influences, the music was soon shaped to please the local ear. After all, when the Dominican and the Jesuit missionaries took off to preach the gospel, music was one of their most important messengers. Most notably in Mexico, Bolivia and Peru, a breathtaking wealth of music has been written in the 17th and 18th century. Even though we are not to forget the brutal ... As much as it seems like I criticize Cole, over the years he turned into one of my favorite all time rappers. To celebrate the Birthday of J. Getting a pacemaker can be life changing for people who were never able to experience life to the fullest beforehand. Statistics show that 68 percent of pacemaker patients reported improved quality of life, and in this study 579 patients using the pacemaker experienced significant improvement. One standard heart failure test measures how far patients can walk in six minutes. Those whose pacemakers were turned on could walk, on average, 58 more yards than patients in a comparison group whose pacemakers were turned off (Neergaard). With a pacemaker, people who were never able to travel are now able to. Patients can even have their pacemaker evaluated in almost any part of the world, and it is safe to pass through airport security checks in the normal fashion (Wood). They can also help people who have abnormal heart rhythms resume a more active lifestyle, and participate in sports, etc (medicinenet). Gladwell would classify Orr as someone who shared no relationship with the cause and only joined because because he wanted to find himself in the midst of chaos not necessarily because he was passionate about the civil rights movement. Gladwell describes the movement of sit ins across the south as a fever . Orr found himself caught up in the contagion, he endured the beatings and the injustice the same as everyone else but his motives were not set for civil rights, he realized this when he was taken and held captive, Even as I sank into depression and brooded in the stifling heat of that jail barn, I was learning that I wanted to live, (Orr, 223). • 18. Human Spinal Deformities Using 3d Reconstruction Techniques Literature Survey on Human Spinal Deformities using 3D Reconstruction Techniques Introduction: Spine and its deformities: Scoliosis is a complex three dimensional (3 D) deformation of the trunk that requires orthopedic treatment in 5 out of 1000 persons [1]. It is described as a lateral deviation of the spine (Fig. 1), combined with asymmetric deformation and axial rotation of the vertebrae, deformation of the rib cage and possibly of the pelvis. The human spine is divided into cervical (7 vertebrae C1 C7), thoracic (12 vertebrae Tl T12), and lumbar (5 vertebrae L1 L5) sections above a fused sacrum (Fig. 2). While the spine normally has no lateral curvature, there are normal side view curves including lumbar lordosis, thoracic kyphosis and cervical lordosis. Scoliotic curves are considered thoracic when the apex lies between T2 and T11, thoracolumbar at T12 L1, and lumbar from L2 L5. Each vertebra consists of an anterior weight bearing vertebral body and posterior elements that protect the spinal cord and enable muscular and ligamentous attachments (Fig. 3). Particularly in severe scoliotic curves, asymmetric loads on the vertebrae encourage asymmetric growth of the vertebral elements, with one result being that despite a substantial underlying spinal curve the spinous processes may deform to produce a relatively straight line on the back surface. The spine, composed of vertebrae connected by fluid filled intervertebral discs, is a loose and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sontag, however, would say that this is still unacceptable and that it can be seen as romanticizing the syndrome. It could be making the syndrome seem a lot more positive than it really is and make it seem as though it is desirable because of the extra help in the brain. Although I agree with Sontag that metaphors should not be used to describe illnesses of multiple or unknown causes, I think that this metaphor could be seen as helpful, because it helps explain Tourette s in simple terms so that children that have Tourette s can understand ... • 27. Essay On Should Athletes Get Paid Too Much To be successful in today s society, there is one word that comes to mind, money. Money controls people, motivates people, and is essentially the drive for many of the decisions a person makes in their life. The American government does what they can to make success possible for the majority of citizens, yet over 46 million Americans are living in poverty. How can it be that the wealthiest nation in the world has so many people living in poverty? What is all of our money being put towards? While there are many good answers for this question, one is in the corrupt world of professional athlete salaries. The amount of money put into professional athletics is unbelievably too much. We have so many hardworking, underpaid Americans who deserve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So it would make sense that these people deserve salaries that put them above everybody on the wealth scale. These people are required to spend a large amount of money and time to get where they are, so why do they make just a fraction of what athletes make? To be more specific, an average doctor has to work everyday for 76 years to make what professional boxer Floyd Mayweather makes in a single fight, even if he loses. A backup quarterback may never play a single snap in a game but he still will make three times as much as surgeon on average. If that isn t enough, how about the fact that in one week the Brooklyn Nets starting five players make just slightly less than all nine supreme court justices make in a year. There is no doubt that athletes do spend just as much time and money, if not more, as those who have professional occupations, but it all comes down to what each occupation group really does for the country. Our country simply could not function without people like Doctors, Surgeons, Engineers, and government officials, and while we may think we could not function without sports, we could. So why should a occupation that does nothing but entertain people make much more than the people that keep the country ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Identity In The Metamorphosis In order to be aware of Gregor s transformation in The Metamorphosis, Lacan s theory of understanding reality, supports the idea of identity. Lacan realizes through the mirror stage that it is one thing to see a reflection of oneself, though, it is more complex than this, since a reflection of someone is just an image, one s identity is more than we can see (Lacan 72). In other words, one must alienate themselves from others to compare and reach self recognition. According to Kafka s story, Gregor has felt isolated from the start, and because he travels for his job he barley makes any social interaction, hence his basis for relationships relies in his family unit where his identity is based on false recognition. It is not until Gregor s mother faints at the sight of him that Gregor feels like a monster, and she further dehumanizes Gregor by removing furniture from his room (Kafka, 1915). A person is not a person if they have no purpose. The pressure from Gregor s job, and the provision from his family consume his conscience and nothing is left for him other than what his family has intended him to be. This can be related to Lacan s theory of the Imaginary; this idea is associated with the ego (Freud s notion of an individual which serves as a mediator) (Falasiri 2016). The imaginary related to Kafka s story is the image of the insect, between what is real what is unreal, Gregor defines himself as a subject rather than a human being based on other s interpretations of his actions. Therefore, the pressure to be productive as a human, actually dehumanizes Gregor physically and mentally, as his identity has morphed him into something worthless than a human. Is it your family, a girlfriend or boyfriend, an object? Love, it is an all too powerful word that is often tossed around with reckless abandon in today s fast paced and ever advancing society. The question is: is true love something that is attainable in the world we live in or are there too many obstacles in our path that mitigate the chance to find the greatest part of what makes us human? Erich Fromm raises this question, among others, in his book The Art of Loving. To begin with, society today is as interconnected as it has ever been. With the advent of social media, in all its forms, whether it is Snapchat or Twitter, a person in today s world can communicate with anyone they please with a touch of a few buttons. The world is practically in our pocket. Although it may seem like we are never alone, are individuals in our society really more alone than ever? Is this aloneness the reason why nearly 49.1 percent of 12th graders have turned to illicit drugs? According to Fromm this separateness is the very reason some choose this route: While they try to escape from separateness by taking refuge in alcohol or drugs, they feel all the more separate after the orgiastic experience is over, and thus are driven to take recourse to it with increasing frequency and intensity. Both Catholic Socialist Teachings and communism, as envisioned by Marx and Engels, suggest a more collectivist approach to society by comparison to what is advocated for by capitalism, which placed less emphasis on society s collective. One particular element of communist teachings/government is the disdain for religion within the ideology. Karl Marx himself was known to have a negative view of organized religion, and this is expressed within his writings. To Marx, religion was a means of suppressing the lower classes, and placating them so that they would hot be hostile towards the rulers of European governments and industrial tycoons of the time. Marx s disdain for organized religion went on to affect cultures of societies with communist governments. Cost Of Professional Sports Essay Professional sports in the United States have served as a staple for consumer entertainment for over a century, while at the same time providing a sense of unity that a community can rally behind. When an owner wants to acquire or create a new franchise, they rely heavily on the surrounding community to help fund and support its creation. While many of these individuals have adequate funds to do this on their own, they argue that the community will reap a large expense of the reward from establishing a team and push the burden of large fixed costs on the community.
