Stereotypes Of Alienation
Musician Boyd Rice stated I never understood alienation. Alienation what? You have to be part of
something in order to feel alienated from it (World Famous Quotes). Rice s statement reveals that
humans are a part of certain cultures or societies yet feel as if they are not. On occasions, individuals
choose to be alienated from groups, but others are alienated against their will. Cultures and societies
both can give individuals a way to connect with one another but also can be a way of segregating
others. Society s stereotypes create a notion that everyone in a certain group should be the same
otherwise they are an outcast. Alienation can be beneficial to one s growth but also shows how the
individual has to attempt to fit a certain stereotype ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Torvald catches his wife eating macaroons and comments No, I am sure of that; besides, you gave me
your word . Keep your little Christmas secrets to yourself, my darling. They will all be revealed
tonight when the Christmas Tree is lit, no doubt (7). Nora purposely tells these little lies and says
things so that Torvald will hear them. The lies and the comments aimed at her husband are Nora s way
of revolting against Torvald s rules. Nora consumed macaroons because Torvald banned them from
being in the household. When Torvald notices the crumbs around her mouth, Nora states that Mrs.
Linde made her eat them. Nora tells these lies to show that she is her own individual rather than
Torvald s belief that she is less superior to him. Torvald calls Nora nicknames such as little skylark
and little squirrel to show that he views her as childlike and innocent. He believes that she is incapable
of spending money wisely when in reality, Nora attempts to pay off the loan. Nora s lies about the loan
show that she is an adult who can make big decisions. Nora tells lies to emphasize her attempt to

Representations of Nature in King Lear Essay examples
We are lucky, today, that the majority of the world s nations are democracies. This has only been the
case in very recent times. For the greater part of human history, society has subscribed to the belief
that birth is the most important determinant of one s future. In Elizabethan England, this was
especially true. Those born into the nobility enjoyed a lifetime of privilege, while those born outside
of their ranks mainly existed to serve them. A century later, the British encountered an even stricter
form of this belief when they conquered India. The Hindu caste system, which dictated one s future
based on birth just as British society did, was deemed even by the English to be excessively
restrictive. After gaining control of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edmund, the comically evil villain, referred to by Shakespeare in the stage directions merely as The
Bastard, ascends to supremacy by deceiving his father, Gloucester, and framing his half brother Edgar,
the legitimate heir to his father s estate. Through fraud, he convinces Gloucester that Edgar plans to
usurp him, forcing his brother to go into hiding, grievously upsetting nature. In traditional English
society, Edmund, an illegitimately conceived bastard, would be exiled from the royal family on
principle. For him to ascend to the throne would be inconceivable. Therefore, his bid for power is
punished by death. After his duel with a disguised Edgar, he confesses to his crimes and tells his
opponent If thou rt noble, I do forgive thee (V. iii. 200 201). This demonstrates his return to social
norms. Edmund knows, deep down, that he did not deserve his newly acquired royal status, because
he was not born into it. A true noble inflicting punishment on a lowly bastard for such pretentions of
greatness is the only remedy for this behavior. Edgar, by rising to the task of defeating his brother, the
disruptor of nature, restores harmony to the kingdom.
The most obvious instance of natural imbalance leading to catastrophe, however, is certainly Lear s
transition from King to beggar. At the play s onset, Lear is absolute master of his kingdom. He
commands total admiration and respect from his eldest daughters, who adore him dearer than

How To Visit Central America
If I could visit three countries in Central America I would visit Belize, Costa Rica and Honduras.I
would like to visit these countries because these countries are very fascinating with very beautiful and
extraordinary sights to behold. These places have a ton of destinations with lots of history. These
countries also have different and interesting cultures.
The first country I would visit is Belize. The capital of Belize is Belmopan. One of the major cities in
Belize is San Ignacio. San Ignacio serves as the cultural economic hub of Cayo District. Belize also
has beautiful destinations within the country such as Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary and Belize
Barrier Reef. The Belize Barrier Reef is a series of coral reefs straddling the coast of Belize. The
Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary contains 16,400 acres of lagoons creeks, logwood swamps, broad

The Ruins of Copan. These ruins are mostly famous for the intricate artwork of the stone carvings on

Quotes and Meanings from The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel...
Quote Meaning/Significance
The magistrate are God fearing gentlemen, but merciful overmuch, that is a truth, added a third
autumnal matron. At the very least, they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester Prynne s
forehead. Madame Hester would have winced at that, I warrant me. But she, the naughty baggage,
little will she care what they put upon the bodice of her gown! Why, look you, she may cover it with a
brooch, or such like heathenish adornment, and so walk the streets as brave as ever!
Chapter 2, paragraph 5 According to the matron, she thinks that being publicly shamed is a bit too
merciful. Although this particular woman does not promote that Hester be executed, another woman
does. She also mentions that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was my folly! I have said it. But up to that epoch of my life, I had lived in vain. The world had been
so cheerless! My heart was a habitation large enough for many guests, but lonely and chill and without

Chapter 4, paragraph 18 Roger Chillingworth to Hester Prynne.
This quote almost makes you feel sympathy in a way for Roger Chillingworth. It s depressing.
Here on this wild outskirt of earth, I shall pitch my tent for, elsewhere a wanderer, and isolated from
human interests, I find here a woman, a man, a child, amongst whom and myself there exist the closest
ligaments. Chapter 4, paragraph 26 Roger Chillingworth to Hester Prynne.
We find out how much Roger and Hester have in common. They are both holding a deep secret, they
are unhappy and they both have a very desirable skill and both live on the outskirts of this Puritan
society.
Thus the young and pure would be taught to look at her, with the scarlet letter flaming on her breast, at
her, the child of honourable parents, at her, the mother of a babe, that would hereafter be a woman, at
her, who had once been innocent, as the figure, the body, the reality of sin.
Chapter 5, paragraph 1 Hester is now basically a symbol of sin in the Puritan town.
Here, she said to herself, had been the scene of her guilt, and here should be the scene of her earthly
punishment; and so, perchance, the torture of her daily shame would at length

Reflective Essay About Rap
I caused myself to miss out on a possible great experience with music. Since the start of 2016, a new
rap era called Mumble Rap caused a spur of people to spew their dislike of rappers who predominately
used adlibs in their songs along with extremely low rapping ability. Well known mumble rappers are:
Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Famous Dex, Kodak Black, and Desiigner. I joined this wave of
not liking mumble rap to make myself seem better and more knowledgeable to this who listen to
mumble rap. I would always say that I only listen to lyrical people, except for Lil Wayne or Mumble
rappers are trash and I do not like that . You will usually see me criticizing people who listen to this
new music because I felt as though the music was poisoning to our minds. Contrary to what I was
saying, these were not my true feelings. The only reason I said these things was because I followed the
thoughts and opinion of the much older people of the hip hop audience. I wanted to be all high and
mighty as those individuals and show that I too also enjoyed the rap era from the 1990s to early 2013.
Although I preached about how bad this new rap era is and the kind of music I listen to, no one
pictured me how I pictured me. I began to notice more and more often, so I began to feel less dislike
for the new rap and eventually not care if it is played around me. I would here one of the mumble
rapper s song on the radio and I would find myself liking it. If I am by myself, I would look

Social Injustice In If You Come Softly By Jacqueline Woodson
Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other s
welfare, social justice can never be attained. As Helen Keller once stated, social justice is unable to be
retrieved unless everyone is held accountable for how they treat others. Social injustice is the
improper treatment of individuals due to race, gender, sexual orientation, or age. One is unable to
control these characteristics; however, they are treated with prejudice just for this logic. In emphasis,
many people are subjected to hate crimes and enmity from others, all for traits that one cannot alter.

In the text, Junior is given fewer painkillers when at the dentist because he is Indian. Junior declares in
the text, And what s more, our white dentist believed that Indians only felt half as much pain as white

painkillers for being Indian, it exemplifies racial injustice that Junior cannot control. Likewise, Junior
also experiences enmity from his teachers that he cannot maintain. His white teacher, Mr. P, has
insulting opinions about Indian culture that he believes are true. When Mr. P and Junior have an after
school conference, Mr. P. tells Junior, We were supposed to kill the Indian to save the child (Alexie

Additionally, Junior is impotent to control the social injustice occurring in his relationships. Junior is a
new student at a preparatory school called Reardon. Reardon is full of privileged and upper class
pupils who have trouble accepting Junior s race. Junior gets a white girlfriend in the text named
Penelope. However, Penelope s father is incredibly discriminative towards individuals such as Junior.
For this reason, Penelope s father says to Junior, Kid, you better keep your hands out of my daughter s
panties. She s only dating you because she knows it will piss me off (Alexie 109). Junior is a victim of
unjust acts, and he is restricted from being able to manage this injustice. Junior wants to be able to
regulate what others say about him, however, he does not have access to change society s
understanding of him. All in all, Junior does not have access to change other people s thoughts of him.

Questions On The Nature Of Interpretation
Hypothetical Misinterpretation
Jerrold Levinson, a prominent hypothetical intentionalist, through his explanation of the relationship
between artworks and exploratory interpretations, has gone under criticism for allowing
misinterpretations to be deemed as valid could mean options. However, one finds when reading Two
Notions of Interpretation and Intention and Interpretation in Literature that these criticisms are
effectively countered by two arguments that Levinson presents. Firstly, although the exploratory mode
of inquiry can have multiple, if not infinite, could mean answers, it also has could not mean answers.
These could not mean interpretations provide insight into the work and allow for interpretations to be
judged on a scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because they are ludic and not grounded in physical realities one can come up with multiple correct
interpretations that are sound but mutually exclusive.
To construe what something could mean, Levinson proposes that we, as interpreters, be pragmatic and
use logic in combination with our given knowledge of the contexts of works to determine their
interpretations. Although there exists an impulse to either exclusively use does mean or could mean
modes of inquiry, like an x ray for the former and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually
have mutual implications. To examine an x ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean
and then come to an apt conclusion. To examine a metaphor is to find what is a plausible response in a
determinative context of semantic possibilities. There also exist instances of purely could mean
inquiries, says Levinson, like the infinite volumes of Babel, but without a does mean interpretation
available, as there are no intentions behind the works, the infinite possible could mean interpretations
create an absence of meaning. It is here I would like to extend the definition of does mean
interpretation beyond scientific knowledge based answers, to include hypothetical DM interpretations.

Historically, multiple styles of dressing have been created during the last several decades, which
played an important role in modern fashion in the UK. Everyone has a different and unique dressing
style in their general life. Some styles are influenced in vintage styles which is attributing to the deep
effects of old vogue, and another group of dressing styles are inclined into the fresh element.
According to those different styles some of them are even evolved in the milestones in fashion history.

Wills Problem: The Estate of Jackie Kennedy Onassis
1. The overall testamentary plan seems to be that Jackie Kennedy Onassis (testator) estate was
allocated proportionately to those people she deemed to be the closest to her. Thus, the further away
from Jackie via bloodline, the less the person inherited and the less personal the gifts seemed to be.
The majority of her real and personal property was left to her children, while friends and other
relatives received legacy gifts. Some of the gifts to her friends were very specific (as in question 3), so
it is likely that there was some sort of sentimental value between Jackie, the devisee, and the property
in question. Whole blooded relatives received a larger portion than her ... Show more content on

The modern Stage 3 rule, UPC § 2 603, saves devisees to three basic groups: grandparents,
descendants of grandparents, and stepchildren. This UPC Stage 3 rule does not apply to non relatives
whatsoever. Jackie Kennedy Onassis left gifts to Mellon, Tempelsman, and Forger, but she listed them
in her will as friends . Because they predeceased the testator and no alternative beneficiaries were
stated for their gifts, one must look to see if there is an applicable Stage 2 anti lapse statute. Under
both Stage 2 and Stage 3 majority rules, anti lapse statutes do not protect friends ; therefore the gifts
would fail. It is possible that First D could be construed as naming Jackie s children as alternate
beneficiaries if First A, B, C failed, so the testator s surviving children would take these gifts.

The Legacy Of John Ireland
Unlike presidents, state governors tend to fade in the memories of citizens. Overtime, despite many
accomplishments and two terms, John Ireland has joined the long lost list of forgotten governors. The
mention of his name fails to incite anything but blank expressions from Texas citizens. In light of his
influence on one of Texas most famed buildings, it might seem as though his name might ring a
couple of bells, but no such luck. Clearly, John Ireland has been forgotten for too long. What did this
man do for Texas and why should he be remembered? Time to find out. Although Ireland lived in
Texas for the majority of his life, he was born in Millerstown, Kentucky in January of 1827 (Elliot).
His lifetime law career began at the young age of eighteen when he took on a deputy sheriff position
in his home county (Who was John Ireland?). Even in the face of limited educational opportunities
(his parents were Irish immigrants), Ireland succeeded in becoming a lawyer in 1852 (Johnson 42).
Only a year after this triumph, John moved to Seguin, Texas and began a prosperous law career
(Johnson 43). Following the proper order of things, Ireland married Matilda Wicks Faircloth in 1854,
but she would die two years later (Elliot). However, John Ireland does not seem to be the kind of man
anyone could keep down for long, as he married again in 1857 (Elliot). With his new wife, Anna
Maria Penn, Ireland had three daughters (Elliot). Although he was starting a family, John continued

Who Is Henry Fuseli Nightmarish
Henry Fuseli: Nightmarish The Enlightenment in art history is best known for promoting reasoning
and rationality just as much as it favored beauty and social progress. However, Henry Fuseli, who
sought to portray human irrationality, often challenged Enlightenment ideals with his work (Cothren,
Stockstad). Painted in 1771 and exhibited at the Royal Academy of London in 1772, Fuseli sought to
make a name for himself with his composition The Nightmare (Tate). The painting leaves its audience
with a dark sense of wonder and intrigue. Fuseli captured an audience during a time in which patrons
had favored easily understood concepts over complex imagery drawn from history or mythology
(Cothren, Stockstad). Fuseli pushed many boundaries and artistic expectations set in this period with
sexually charged compositions and dark tones in narrative. Contentious for its time, The Nightmare is
a classical painting which hinges upon Fuseli s own sexual desires, potentially unrequited love, and
folklore of the period. Certainly, Henry Fuseli s romanticized gothic style both shocked and awed his
audience. However, Fuseli did not always intend to be an artist. Though he was one of eighteen
children with a father who devoted his life to both creating and collecting art, becoming an artist was
not Henry Fuseli s initial pursuit. Despite his art rich upbringing, in the mid 1760 s, Fuseli moved to
England from his hometown of Zürich, Switzerland in search of other achievements. Initially, Henry

Walter Lee´s Evolution in A Raisin In the Sun by Lorraine...
In many works of literature, some characters change and grow while others remain the same. A
character who changes is known as a dynamic character. In the novel A Raisin In the Sun by Lorraine
Hansberry, the main character, Walter Lee Younger, is an example of a dynamic character. Walter lives
with his wife Ruth, his sister Beneatha, his son Travis, and his mother Lena in a small, one family
apartment in the southside of Chicago. The black Younger family lived in a time period between 1945
and 1959 when black segregation was starting to become more recognized. They are barely making it
through life moneywise and the family seems to be becoming weaker. Walter is an example of a
dynamic character because his character evolves throughout the novel by changing from a selfless,
caring, family man to a very selfish person, only looking out for himself. Walters idea of an american
dream is to have everything. He wants his family to have the best of everything. Walter works hard
everyday as a chauffeur for a rich white man. He has strong work ethics and works extremely hard.
Mr. Younger wants to earn as much money as he can because he believes it will bring his family
peacefulness and happiness. Mr. Younger s main goal is to have money and he dreams up so many
different ways to make money that he is sometimes overwhelms himself. He doesn t want to think

Disputes For Sweatshops
Background information
Diane Angeles 10E
Introduction
Sweatshops are exceedingly contentious for numerous reasons interrelated to human rights, greed and
consumerism, feminism and environmental ethics. This segment of the proposal will briefly outline
four immensely combative disputes connected to sweatshops.
Human Rights Breaches
There are various ways to which the operation of sweat shops breach the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights (UDHR) advocated by the United Nations (UN). Most sweatshop operators neglect the
health and safety of their workers and often use physical abuse as a source of empowerment to force
the workers to perform unreasonable amounts of labour for extremely long hours at rapid speeds. This
is a direct breach to the UDHR statement which states that everyone has the right to rest leisure,
including reasonable limitation of working hours and precious holidays with pay (Article 24). These
working conditions are appalling and breach various categories of human rights.
Fuelling Greed
Human misery is experience by sweatshop workers everyday as a result of the extreme greed
substantial companies portray towards sweatshops as a whole. Large companies involved in the
fashion industry are approaching sweatshops demanding cheaper prices to produce products that will
later on be sold for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is known by most that majority of employees in sweatshops are women, in fact a piling 85% of
sweatshops workers are females. Not just women but also children and teenagers are treated no more
than mere objects bound to comply with orders in attempt to avoid inhumane consequences such as
persistent physical abuse. Earning less than three dollars a day, mothers have no choice but to leave
their children in their hometowns to work in endlessly in hopes that their children will not have a
future like their own. Cheap female labour is unacceptable and should not be

Persuasive Essay On Circus Animals
A little girl got lost behind a circus on her way to the bathroom, only to come out and see an elephant
being hooked and whipped by multiple grown men at the same time. She noticed it was the same
elephant that tripped on stage 5 minutes before. I could have been that little girl, and I know I d be
terrified to ever go back to a circus or zoo again. As an animal lover, I wanted to see something done
about the situation. It s not fair to animals. Circuses shouldn t even be a thing. Animals deserve a fair
life in the wild where they belong. They shouldn t have to be absolutely terrified every time they make
the even smallest mistake. While researching this topic I found I had few questions that weren t
answered in any articles. How long has this been going on? Why haven t people tried to fix this
earlier? But there was one question, my driving question, the one I really wanted an answer to. It was:
What can I do to help animals around the world from being abused in entertainment? After
researching through videos, articles, and podcasts I ve found that there aren t many that had solutions,
but there are still many possible solutions.
Many animals in entertainment often get abused for the slightest mistakes, they get abuse from
slashing to even being killed Circus animals are shocked, slashed with sharp hooks, whipped, beaten
with clubs and even starved.
Circuses often say the animals perform out of love for their owners, but thatś completely false. They
perform out of fear of being beaten and whipped.
Animals that try to escape their enclosures don t only get shocked or cut by the wire fences but are
even sometimes shot to death. That´s ashaming. If the animals are so important to the zoos and
circuses then why treat them the way they do? These animals don t even get the proper vet care, and
with all the injuries they get a day, they need it. Animals should be getting a checkup at the least,
every two months and especially circus animals, because of how active they are. Animals in zoos and
circuses are never taught to survive in the wild. So if at one point an animal is replaced and put into
the wild, they´ll easily get hunted and/or attacked. I´m all for cute tricks and fun. But the way these
animals are

Aristotle demonstrated the creation of a plot in literature. The method Aristotle adopted to create a plot
involved the use of tight nexus of ignorance whereby the word Harmatia was mistranslated. The
technique of plot creation enables an author to come up with a realistic illustration to demonstrate a
real life experience. A realistic tragic story should not have tragic pleasure. The nature of a tragic story
lacking the ability to change the order of events enables the readers not to experience emotional
distancing
The way Sophocles Oedipus exemplifies the definition of a tragic hero by Aristotle s is broad.
According to Sophocles Oedipus, the definition of Aristotle hero is viewed as someone of a high
position who is of valuable qualities in terms of character and moral values. The person does not
commit mistakes of his own. Aristotle s defines tragedy as a very important act done as results of
sympathy, and fear (Peter, 2005). Tragedy hero is also described as a person of nobility during birth
that brings about certain flaws that would results to his failure. The situation is referred to as
Harmatia. It is also indicated that true tragic hero also go through peripeteia. It is also revealed

My favourite scene with the 2 of them was near the end when there in concert singing Ring of Fire . It
s one of my favourite Johnny Cash songs and these 2 managed to convince me with this performance
that they were actually John and June. Without these 2 actors I don t think this movie would have been
as remarkable as they managed to make it.
One film that was very close to this one was last years highly famous, Ray . The biography of blind
musician ray Charles. Both are high profile motion pictures about major recording stars who recently
died (Cash passed away in 2003, four months after the death of his wife, June Carter). The music the 2
of them play is different, but there are very similar plot fundamentals, among which are drug use.
Walk the Line I think is a better film. It s put together with more style, and it never seems to get
boring, unlike Ray which near the end seems to drag on for a bit. Ray had much more fantasy as
opposed to Walk the Line which was all completely based on Cash s own words. This movie also has
a powerful plotline that Ray didn t, a love story! To me, that s what made this film much better than
Ray .
Overall I really enjoyed this movie; the only thing I want to complain about is the lack of Bob Dylan.
It is a known fact that Dylan single handedly revived Cash s career, yet they only mention him a few
times throughout the

The Home Front Effect in The American Civil War
The Civil War was unlike any other war ever fought in America and had many effects on the home
front for both the North and the South. It is stated to be the first ever total war, which is a war against
not only the civilians but also the armies. The Civil War is also considered the first modern war fought
by the U.S. troops. Lincoln asked volunteers to sign up for only three months. Many people thought
the war wouldn t last long. However, the war continued on for four years. The Union armies had
around 2,500,000 to 2,750,000 men and the Confederate army had approximately 750,000 to

In similar, the role for women was also greatly changed in the South. Women took part in all aspects
of supporting the war effort. The women learned how to maintain farms, plantations, and factories.
Similar to women in the North, the women of the south also took part in and became nurses.
Richmond was later established, which was considered as a hospital center similar to that of
Washington and Alexandria as hospital centers in the North (Austin, 1975). All in all, the South was
unsuccessful in progressing in a favorable system for intermediate transportation. The South mainly
depended on their cotton and tobacco. They were helpless with diverting over to a food management.
The fighting from the war destroyed the crops and homes in the South. The North was a diverse
society and its foundation focused on an enlarged economy and agriculture. The North had access to
machinery and used them significantly. This allowed framers to develop more land and supplied a
growth in production. In importance, the factories had a positive impact on the war and were capable
of producing guns, ammunition, and clothing more rapidly. The Union tried such methods as
borrowing funds, taxing, and printing money to fund their war which in the end worked for them. The
Confederacy used the same methods; however, taxing the civilians was rejected by the public and the
Congress. To manage the army, the Union passed the Enrollment Act

Hunting
Hunting has been around since before man was even thought of and has evolved ever since. Now only
a sport, ounce was a skill used to survive. Hunting is a natural, ethical, and healthy undertaking (

chain. Herbivores eat plants, carnivores eat herbivores and bigger carnivores eat other carnivores.
Perhaps one of the eldest activities on the face of the planet is hunting ( History of hunting , par 1).

bows and over a million different arrows for bows. When hunting seasons where created so where
different types of weapon seasons. This allowed bow hunters to hunt before gun hunters because bows
are more difficult to use. So allowing them to hunt first gave
them a better chance at getting an animal. These hunting seasons also allow the animals to breed

because of their near extinction.
One of the oldest animals hunted is still hunted today and that is the deer. Some history experts believe
that the whitetail deer went through several population stages in the past 500 years due to the hunting

Use Of Measure Disability And Level Of An Individual s Health
Currently, two other instruments are utilized to measure disability and level of functioning. The two
instruments are: 1.) The RAND 36 Item Short Form Survey (SF 36) and
2.) the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) (Üstün et al., 2010b). Both of these measures are
often compared to the WHODAS 2.0. However, they both vary slightly from the WHODAS
2.0. The SF 36 is a generic quality of life measurement that assesses an individual s health status
(Ware, 2000). This measureme relies specifically on an individual s self reported perceptions related to
the following eight domains: physical functioning, bodily pain, role limitations due to physical health
problems, role limitations due to personal or emotional problems, emotional well being, social
functioning, energy/fatigue, and general health (Ware,
2000). The SF 36 is heavily utilized by managed care organizations and Medicare when monitoring
and assessing progress in adult individuals (Ware, 2000). In regards to scoring the
SF 36, this is a two step process in which scores have to be recoded and then averaged together to
create scale scores for each domain (Ware, 2000). Research on the SF 36 has concluded that it is
relatively easy to score, as long as clinicians follow the two step scoring process (Ware,
2000). It is also important to note that the SF 36 is in the public domain, available in multiple
languages, and has good reliability and validity (Ware, 2000). However, one of the major

The Urgent Need for Internet Censorship Essay
The Urgent Need for Internet Censorship
With the increasing popularity of the Internet, especially among children, parents and others have been
concerned that young people have easy access to a wide range of pornography available online. They
have pointed out that it is a relatively easy maneuver for children to call up salacious material at home
or in libraries simply by searching for key words like porn or sex. The purpose of this paper is to
amplify on this subject of the need for regulation of the Internet.
In February of 1996 Congress passed and the president signed the Communications Decency Act,
which made it a crime to transmit indecent material to minors on line(Communications). But the

This is a sample of the new filtering technology parents can use to block access to sites children may
visit. The internet industry is establishing a public service campaign to inform parents about the
danger of pornography online; and creating a national hotline to report incidents of cyber porn.
Ultimately, the only real solution is parental empowerment and parental education, so, therefore, a
legislative solution may not create the kind of comfort that people seek and actually could,
inadvertently, do some damage to dealing with the problem in a substantive kind of way. But some
critics don t believe that voluntary industry efforts will be effective. Republican Senator Dan Coats of
Indiana introduced a bill requiring all commercial web sites carrying material harmful to minors to
block access or face criminal penalties. This bill rovided very stiff fines. The Communications
Decency Act would have sent a very strong signal to the internet providers that if you get caught, if
you do this and you get caught, it s not going to be, oh, well, we re sorry, we won t do it again; there s
going to be a very stiff penalty, including a jail sentence. But it did not pass into law. Any new law
restricting Internet access like the Communications Decency Act before it is certain to be challenged
in court.
Industry believes the solution to this problem of easy access to salacious materials is to give parents

The Syrian Arab Republic is an Arab country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the
Mediterranean Sea to the West, Turkey to the North, Iraq to the East, Jordan to the South, and Israel to

The first protest erupted on March 2011 in Deraa after the arrest and torture of some teenagers who
were painted with revolutionary slogans on a school wall. In order to manage the uncontrollable
chaotic situation, minimum military forces were suitably in place to minimise the protest through the
use of checkpoint road blocks. As the protest continued and spread widely over the country the
citizens demanded for the President Bashar Al Assad s resignation. By July 2011 hundreds of thousand

Abstract: Chemotherapy is a well known treatment when it comes to treating cancer, however the
drugs are often non specific and can end up damaging perfectly healthy cells, leaving the patient in
agony, or not achieve anything. In this study we looks into the area of personalised medicine where
different drugs are used for different patients with the same cancer dependent upon the effects this
drug will have. Two chemotherapeutic agents, named A and B, were used to prevent the cell
proliferating and therefore stop the cancer progressing and surviving as the cells starve to death. A ...

Radiotherapy was the first method non surgical method used to cure cancer around 100 years ago and
was, up until recently, the most common way to do so
(http://cancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/68/21/8643.full.html). The basis is simple, an ionising beam
is fired at the tumorous cells to alter those cells DNA. The mutations are fatal and the cells die,
therefore curing the cancer, however many healthy cells around that tumour also get mutated and can
also die in the process so there can be some severe side effects from radiotherapy. Chemotherapy was
invented around 40 years later (same guy unfortunately to link) in 1935 but due to lack of progress it
was dismissed until the 1960 s when there was proof that it actually could cure cancer and not just
relieve certain symptoms but do nothing else. Whilst radiotherapy is still the most common treatment
of cancers chemotherapy is now a treatment almost everyone will have heard of and is a growing field
in an attempt to cure cancer with various drugs while minimising the side effects some of these drugs
can have. However vary rarely are these treatments used as standalone treatments nowadays,

Abstract Image captured by two dimensional camera contains no depth information. However depth
information is needed in many applications, for example in robotic vision, satellite imaging and target
tracking. To extract depth information from images Stereo matching is used. The main aim of our
project is to use stereo matching algorithms to plot the disparity map of segmented images which
gives the depth information details. Particle Swarm Optimization and K means algorithms are used for
image segmentation. Our main objective is to implement stereo matching algorithms on the segmented
images, compare the results of K means and PSO on the basis of objective parameters such as PSNR,
execution time, density of disparity map and compression ratio and perform subjective analysis of
reconstructed 3 D images. The compared results show that the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm
gives better 3 D reconstructed image.

Understanding And Acting Upon Consumer Behavior
Consumer Behavior Booking.com Understanding and acting upon consumer behavior is at the core of
becoming a successful retailer. Today s business environment is packed with competing firms, all
seeking to convenience customers to choose them over their competitors. Many industries, such as the
soda, cell phone, and laundry detergent industries are dominated by a just a few or a sole firm.
Therefore, more than ever it is becoming increasingly difficult to disrupt the large base of habitual
consumers. A consumer s buying process is what must be closely analyzed by any existing or new
firm that is attempting to be competitive in today s business environment. A customer will have both
utilitarian and hedonic needs. Often companies will attempt to merge these two types of needs in order
to create an all encompassing experience. For example, the Wegmans store experience doesn t only
satisfy the utilitarian need of purchasing groceries, it also provides stimulation (an aspect of satisfying
hedonic needs) through visuals and well organized displays. Paying attention to such details and so
creating a multi dimensional experience creates a competitive advantage. Perhaps the most radical
change in consumer behavior happened when the new era of the internet began and the way customers
started to search for and evaluate information changed overnight. Today customers face the challenge
of being overwhelmed by information rather than not being able to access it. The internet has also

Utilitarianism Sacrifice
Utilitarianism:
Should You Sacrifice Your Happiness? Would you be willing to sacrifice something that you really
care about for the greater good? Utilitarianism is the theory that we should do what is best for the
world as a whole, even if that means that there will be some unhappiness. It is the ethical theory that I
believe I base most of my moral judgments on, but as with anything, there are flaws to this theory.
Utilitarianism, defined as the theory that an action is right if it seeks to promote the greatest amount of
happiness in the world at large . This theory was started with the philosophies of Jeremy Bentham
(1748 1832) and John Stuart Mill (1806 1873). Utilitarianism gets its name from Bentham s test

One argument is that it is unpredictable. We cannot predict the future and most of the time, things do
not turn out the way that we thought they would. Therefore, we can t judge an action as being right or
wrong based on outcomes that come down to chance. Another argument is justice. Our view of justice
is that everyone should be treated fairly. Utilitarianism allows us to sacrifice individuals for the greater
good. Many people would see this as unfair. In an article I read online, the author makes a very good
point about how utilitarianism cannot protect the rights of minorities. In his example he says, if the
goal is the greatest good for the greatest number. Americans in the eighteenth century could justify
slavery on the basis that it provided a good consequence for a majority of Americans. Certainly the
majority benefited from cheap slave labor even though the lives of black slaves were much worse.

Comparing Operant Conditioning And Observational Learning
Classical conditioning, Operant conditioning and Observational learning
Classical conditioning, Operant conditioning, and Observational learning are how we learn. This can
be from the time we are born up until we die. We are always learning in some form or another. These
different types of learning have unconsciously been embedded into our minds. Whether it be from
observing how not to start a fire or learning that Mom brings us food, we learn in many different
ways. Classical conditioning happens when ... learning takes place when an association is formed
between a previously neutral stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus. (Cherry)This means that an
image can be associated with something good. If a baby is shown a picture of their mom, they are
likely to think of the person who feeds them or takes care of what they want. When a mother goes to

Observational learning relies on what is seen and observed. If a child observes their older sister hitting
a different sibling, the child is likely to hit also. If a child hears their mom swearing, they are likely to
choose to pick up on that four letter word. Observation is one of the more key ways that we learn
anything. It would be difficult to learn anything without being able to observe. After seeing my sister
leave the burner on, I learned to not do so or else I could cause a fire. Without the powers of
observation, many things would never be learned. Classical conditioning, Operant conditioning, and
Observational learning are all examples of learning. Animals and humans alike learn these different
ways. From the time we are born to the day we die we ll always be learning in one of these ways. The
different ways of learning define us as individuals. Depending on which type of learning a person
focused on and learned, people are created to be their own individual. These types of learning are
immensely helpful and

The numerous parallels between the prohibition of alcohol and the current drug war are uncanny. The
primary groups leading the prohibition movement were the Women s Christian Temperance Union
(WCTU) and the Anti Saloon League (ASL). Both groups represented large, religious non partisan
voting blocs which blamed alcohol for much of society s problems. They specialized in high pressure
tactics and effectively ousted politicians who didn t vote accordingly. In fact, the ASL s leader, Wayne

These groups were shameless and limitless propagandists. Ethics be hanged, said William Eugene

Scene Analysis of The Green Mile Essay
The film The Green Mile was originally written by Stephen King and later directed by Frank
Darabont. It is based on the guards and inmates of a penitentiary s Death Row during the great
depression. There is a certain monotony that comes with working on Death Row and Paul Edgecomb,
played by Tom Hanks, has become numb to the fact that he is paid to take lives; that is until John

Paul starts explaining the details of the story to Elaine and they go back and forth conversing. He is
explaining to her that he was cursed for killing a miracle of God and his punishment is to stay alive
while those around him that he loves must die. Both he and Mr. Jingles got a piece of John Coffey
when they had their little encounters with him, and together they must go on. We see three different
shots throughout the majority of this scene. First it goes back and forth with shot and reverse shot as

  • 3. Stereotypes Of Alienation Musician Boyd Rice stated I never understood alienation. Alienation what? You have to be part of something in order to feel alienated from it (World Famous Quotes). Rice s statement reveals that humans are a part of certain cultures or societies yet feel as if they are not. On occasions, individuals choose to be alienated from groups, but others are alienated against their will. Cultures and societies both can give individuals a way to connect with one another but also can be a way of segregating others. Society s stereotypes create a notion that everyone in a certain group should be the same otherwise they are an outcast. • 4. Representations of Nature in King Lear Essay examples We are lucky, today, that the majority of the world s nations are democracies. This has only been the case in very recent times. For the greater part of human history, society has subscribed to the belief that birth is the most important determinant of one s future. In Elizabethan England, this was especially true. Those born into the nobility enjoyed a lifetime of privilege, while those born outside of their ranks mainly existed to serve them. A century later, the British encountered an even stricter form of this belief when they conquered India. The Hindu caste system, which dictated one s future based on birth just as British society did, was deemed even by the English to be excessively restrictive. After gaining control of the ... Edmund, the comically evil villain, referred to by Shakespeare in the stage directions merely as The Bastard, ascends to supremacy by deceiving his father, Gloucester, and framing his half brother Edgar, the legitimate heir to his father s estate. Through fraud, he convinces Gloucester that Edgar plans to usurp him, forcing his brother to go into hiding, grievously upsetting nature. In traditional English society, Edmund, an illegitimately conceived bastard, would be exiled from the royal family on principle. For him to ascend to the throne would be inconceivable. Therefore, his bid for power is punished by death. After his duel with a disguised Edgar, he confesses to his crimes and tells his opponent If thou rt noble, I do forgive thee (V. iii. 200 201). This demonstrates his return to social norms. Edmund knows, deep down, that he did not deserve his newly acquired royal status, because he was not born into it. A true noble inflicting punishment on a lowly bastard for such pretentions of greatness is the only remedy for this behavior. Edgar, by rising to the task of defeating his brother, the disruptor of nature, restores harmony to the kingdom. The most obvious instance of natural imbalance leading to catastrophe, however, is certainly Lear s transition from King to beggar. At the play s onset, Lear is absolute master of his kingdom. Why, look you, she may cover it with a brooch, or such like heathenish adornment, and so walk the streets as brave as ever! Here on this wild outskirt of earth, I shall pitch my tent for, elsewhere a wanderer, and isolated from human interests, I find here a woman, a man, a child, amongst whom and myself there exist the closest ligaments. Since the start of 2016, a new rap era called Mumble Rap caused a spur of people to spew their dislike of rappers who predominately used adlibs in their songs along with extremely low rapping ability. Social Injustice In If You Come Softly By Jacqueline Woodson Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other s welfare, social justice can never be attained. Social injustice is the improper treatment of individuals due to race, gender, sexual orientation, or age. However, one finds when reading Two Notions of Interpretation and Intention and Interpretation in Literature that these criticisms are effectively countered by two arguments that Levinson presents. Because they are ludic and not grounded in physical realities one can come up with multiple correct interpretations that are sound but mutually exclusive. To construe what something could mean, Levinson proposes that we, as interpreters, be pragmatic and use logic in combination with our given knowledge of the contexts of works to determine their interpretations. Although there exists an impulse to either exclusively use does mean or could mean modes of inquiry, like an x ray for the former and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually have mutual implications. To examine an x ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean and then come to an apt conclusion. To examine a metaphor is to find what is a plausible response in a determinative context of semantic possibilities. There also exist instances of purely could mean inquiries, says Levinson, like the infinite volumes of Babel, but without a does mean interpretation available, as there are no intentions behind the works, the infinite possible could mean interpretations create an absence of meaning. It is here I would like to extend the definition of does mean interpretation beyond scientific knowledge based answers, to include hypothetical DM interpretations. The majority of her real and personal property was left to her children, while friends and other relatives received legacy gifts. Although Ireland lived in Texas for the majority of his life, he was born in Millerstown, Kentucky in January of 1827 (Elliot). His lifetime law career began at the young age of eighteen when he took on a deputy sheriff position in his home county (Who was John Ireland?). • 15. Who Is Henry Fuseli Nightmarish Henry Fuseli: Nightmarish The Enlightenment in art history is best known for promoting reasoning and rationality just as much as it favored beauty and social progress. However, Henry Fuseli, who sought to portray human irrationality, often challenged Enlightenment ideals with his work (Cothren, Stockstad). Painted in 1771 and exhibited at the Royal Academy of London in 1772, Fuseli sought to make a name for himself with his composition The Nightmare (Tate). The painting leaves its audience with a dark sense of wonder and intrigue. Fuseli captured an audience during a time in which patrons had favored easily understood concepts over complex imagery drawn from history or mythology (Cothren, Stockstad). Fuseli pushed many boundaries and artistic expectations set in this period with sexually charged compositions and dark tones in narrative. Contentious for its time, The Nightmare is a classical painting which hinges upon Fuseli s own sexual desires, potentially unrequited love, and folklore of the period. Certainly, Henry Fuseli s romanticized gothic style both shocked and awed his audience. However, Fuseli did not always intend to be an artist. Though he was one of eighteen children with a father who devoted his life to both creating and collecting art, becoming an artist was not Henry Fuseli s initial pursuit. Despite his art rich upbringing, in the mid 1760 s, Fuseli moved to England from his hometown of Zürich, Switzerland in search of other achievements. Initially, Henry ... Disputes For Sweatshops Background information Diane Angeles 10E Introduction Sweatshops are exceedingly contentious for numerous reasons interrelated to human rights, greed and consumerism, feminism and environmental ethics. This segment of the proposal will briefly outline four immensely combative disputes connected to sweatshops. Human Rights Breaches There are various ways to which the operation of sweat shops breach the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) advocated by the United Nations (UN). Most sweatshop operators neglect the health and safety of their workers and often use physical abuse as a source of empowerment to force the workers to perform unreasonable amounts of labour for extremely long hours at rapid speeds. Persuasive Essay On Circus Animals A little girl got lost behind a circus on her way to the bathroom, only to come out and see an elephant being hooked and whipped by multiple grown men at the same time. She noticed it was the same elephant that tripped on stage 5 minutes before. I could have been that little girl, and I know I d be terrified to ever go back to a circus or zoo again. How long has this been going on? Why haven t people tried to fix this earlier? But there was one question, my driving question, the one I really wanted an answer to. It was: What can I do to help animals around the world from being abused in entertainment? After researching through videos, articles, and podcasts I ve found that there aren t many that had solutions, but there are still many possible solutions. Many animals in entertainment often get abused for the slightest mistakes, they get abuse from slashing to even being killed Circus animals are shocked, slashed with sharp hooks, whipped, beaten with clubs and even starved. Circuses often say the animals perform out of love for their owners, but thatś completely false. They perform out of fear of being beaten and whipped. Animals that try to escape their enclosures don t only get shocked or cut by the wire fences but are even sometimes shot to death. That´s ashaming. If the animals are so important to the zoos and circuses then why treat them the way they do? These animals don t even get the proper vet care, and with all the injuries they get a day, they need it. Animals should be getting a checkup at the least, every two months and especially circus animals, because of how active they are. Animals in zoos and circuses are never taught to survive in the wild. So if at one point an animal is replaced and put into the wild, they´ll easily get hunted and/or attacked. I´m all for cute tricks and fun. But the way these animals are ... Introduction Aristotle demonstrated the creation of a plot in literature. The method Aristotle adopted to create a plot involved the use of tight nexus of ignorance whereby the word Harmatia was mistranslated. The technique of plot creation enables an author to come up with a realistic illustration to demonstrate a real life experience. A realistic tragic story should not have tragic pleasure. The music the 2 of them play is different, but there are very similar plot fundamentals, among which are drug use. Walk the Line I think is a better film. It s put together with more style, and it never seems to get boring, unlike Ray which near the end seems to drag on for a bit. Ray had much more fantasy as opposed to Walk the Line which was all completely based on Cash s own words. This movie also has a powerful plotline that Ray didn t, a love story! To me, that s what made this film much better than Ray . Overall I really enjoyed this movie; the only thing I want to complain about is the lack of Bob Dylan. It is a known fact that Dylan single handedly revived Cash s career, yet they only mention him a few times throughout the

The RAND 36 Item Short Form Survey (SF 36) and 2.) the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) (Üstün et al., 2010b). Both of these measures are often compared to the WHODAS 2.0. However, they both vary slightly from the WHODAS 2.0. The SF 36 is a generic quality of life measurement that assesses an individual s health status (Ware, 2000). This measureme relies specifically on an individual s self reported perceptions related to the following eight domains: physical functioning, bodily pain, role limitations due to physical health problems, role limitations due to personal or emotional problems, emotional well being, social functioning, energy/fatigue, and general health (Ware, 2000). The SF 36 is heavily utilized by managed care organizations and Medicare when monitoring and assessing progress in adult individuals (Ware, 2000). In regards to scoring the SF 36, this is a two step process in which scores have to be recoded and then averaged together to create scale scores for each domain (Ware, 2000). Research on the SF 36 has concluded that it is relatively easy to score, as long as clinicians follow the two step scoring process (Ware, 2000). However depth information is needed in many applications, for example in robotic vision, satellite imaging and target tracking. To extract depth information from images Stereo matching is used. The main aim of our project is to use stereo matching algorithms to plot the disparity map of segmented images which gives the depth information details. Particle Swarm Optimization and K means algorithms are used for image segmentation. Our main objective is to implement stereo matching algorithms on the segmented images, compare the results of K means and PSO on the basis of objective parameters such as PSNR, execution time, density of disparity map and compression ratio and perform subjective analysis of reconstructed 3 D images. The compared results show that the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm gives better 3 D reconstructed image. Keywords K means, PSNR, Particle Swarm Optimization, DSP, FPGA, ACO I.
