Educator Pursue Mentoring
If an educator mentors his or her successor, that will ensure success of the department for the sake of
future students and the patients. If the skills are taught to the mentee and evaluated for competencies,
then even in the event of that educator moving on to the higher level, department can function well
with new person in place, which would be the mentee. Mentoring can be empowering to the mentee as
the leader let go of some of his or her reins and let the mentee expand the skill set (Federer, 2014).
Patience is the biggest virtue mentor could possess while mentee is learning. Influence as a role model
is one of the core aspects of the leadership (Chan, 2014). Communicating to all the stakeholder the
upcoming changes is crucial for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leaving behind a well groomed successor goes in favor of the leader rather than posing a threat. The
leaders should plan their exit strategy so well that they can pass the baton to the next generation
without missing a beat, hence, making the transition as smooth as possible. If the succession and
mentoring plan is well orchestrated then the organization would be thinking about the leader and
thanking him or her for the foresightedness. Research shows that billion dollar companies have
succession planning as their top three priorities and successful health care leaders should absorb
lessons from other successful organization to position themselves in the global competitive landscape
as a cutting edge organization, which is ready to meet tomorrow s challenges head on. Even though
the health care should not be treated as a business, but leaders should possess the entrepreneurial
acumen. A leader is considered successful not when he or she is well educated, and result oriented, but
the one who can put together a cohesive team, move things forwards with his or her far sightedness. A
leader is followed if he or she is passionate, wise, trustworthy, generous, and courageous enough to
challenge the status quo by taking calculated risks (Andersen,

A Modern Day Form Of Slavery Essay
Literature Review
While DMST is considered to be a modern day form of slavery, history has recorded that the sexual
exploitation of children has been practiced in America since its colonization. While slavery was
abolished in the 19th century, it did not dissipate completely and it wasn t until the beginning of the
20th century that the issue of child sex trafficking began to receive significant attention. This was in
part due to the Trafficking Victim s Protection Act (TVPA) that was passed in 2000 which protected
victims of trafficking by enhancing criminal penalties under the law as well as made benefits and
services to victims available (TVPA, 2000). Since the act s establishment, the TVPA has been
amended 4 times in order to grow with the changing attitudes, policies, and approaches to best combat
human trafficking (DeCeoursty, 2016). The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 refueled the
United States dedication to sex trafficking by declaring DMST as a threat to national security which
transformed the way human trafficking should be approached (DeCeoursty, 2016). The post 911
environment embraced a crime control approach by focusing more on combating organized crime
activity instead of the issue of human rights and the recognition of victimization (DeCeoursty, 2016).
However, this crime control approach to human trafficking failed to address the underlying structural
problems, which is the high demand for the sex trafficking industry. Over time, the Department of

business to business payments; employee benefits/pension administration etc. Online banking or E
banking has spread around the world and has become common these days. In general, banking
services have changed over the past three decades to meet the consumers needs (McKinsey Company,
2012); at that time, when the consumer needed money for purchases or to make a transaction, he
needed to go to the bank by himself during the bank hours and perhaps waited in a long line to meet a
human teller to implement his transaction. Nowadays, due to the E channels that surfaced with the
development of technology and the Internet, the processes of banking have changed. The consumer
can make a transaction from one account to another while sitting in his couch anytime and anywhere.

The New England And Chesapeake Colonies
The seventeenth century brought plenty of changes to North America. One of the most significant
ones was the formation of the thirteen colonies along the North American east coast. These colonies
are generally divided into New England, Middle and South or the Chesapeake regions. Most of these
colonies were settled by the British, yet they developed differently as the years went by. Some
developed into more egalitarian colonies and some not. The greatest differences could be seen in the
New England and Chesapeake regions. Even though the New England and Chesapeake regions were
settled originally by The British, they had their own differences which were influenced by many of
factors, including the reasons they were founded, their social ... Show more content on

These colonies all had economic factors that contributed to their founding. These factors later
developed into different customs and traditions which led to the varied differences between the New
England and Chesapeake colonies.
The differences between these colonies also arose due to different opinion on functioning of the
government and ideologies. New England, being majorly settled by the Puritans, was intolerant to all
other religions. The one exception to this was the colony of Rhode Island. Because it was settled by a
dissenter from the Massachusetts Bay colony, it was the only New England colony to have complete
religious freedom. Most of the New England based groups wanted to reform the Anglican Church
from inside. The Chesapeake region was completely tied to the Anglican Church and did not care
about reforming it in any way. The New England colonies also had a large central government which
allowed for their administrations to be more organized and uniform throughout the region. This idea
came from the Mayflower Compact signed at Plymouth by the Pilgrims. The American Pageant
describes it as, It was simple agreement to form a crude government and submit to the will of the
majority under the regulations agreed upon (Bailey 47 ). According to Document A,

Why Should College Athletes Get Paid
Year after year fans enjoy nail biting moments produced by the NCAA basketball tournament and
football season. Many would argue that the NCAA provides a product that matches up with the
professionals both competitively and financially. The only difference is that professionals get paid for
the revenue that they bring in while NCAA athletes do not. It is time for change, college athletes
should be monetarily compensated because they are the ones who have made the NCAA profitable for
many years. The idea of college athletes getting paid has been at the center of the sports world because
there are a variety of opinions surrounding this topic. Raymond G. Schneider pointed out that some

Those alone can make enough money to pay college athletes. For instance college football is a money
maker when December arrives, teams are guaranteed to see an increase in numbers because that is
when championships are settled. There are at least twenty bowl games during that month ending with
the national title game which is seen by millions around the world. The title game alone can generate
an enormous amount of revenue because of all the advertising that the NCAA does prior to the game.
When it comes to college basketball, it is basically the same thing. This sport alone generates large
amounts of money because it is a popular sport in the United States. The real money is made in the
month of March when the most anticipated college basketball tournament is played. Multiple
businesses work with the NCAA to have their commercials shown during nationally televised games,
the deals are made between them for large amounts of cash. According to an article from the NPR
website Our athletic program at the University of Miami is subsidized by the university millions of
dollars, in fact and I would argue that most of the programs in this country are in the same situation
she says ( Staff ). When all of these factors are put together it is very possible to pay college athletes
since it is proven that the NCAA and universities make millions of dollars with ease.

Essay about Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
After reading explications of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, a student is likely to come away with the
impression that the Franklin is the critics favorite punching bag. To the average reader in the modern
English speaking world, the Franklin comes across as surprisingly fair minded and level headed,
noteworthy as the man kind and inventive enough to resolve the marriage cycle with a tale of decency
and openness. The critics, however, often depict the Franklin as a man primarily concerned with
upward mobility, finding in his tale a number of remarks intended to win over the nobility and subtly
assert his own claim to a kind of nobility. The contrast between the fawning Franklin of certain critical
approaches and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marxist critics look for social and economic themes in a work, ones of which the author was unaware
because the authors own consciousness is affected by the system of production in which he or she
lived (157). This critical stance is particularly fitting when one approaches the Canterbury Tales:
Chaucer s conscious emphasis on social class, combined with a modern reader s lack of familiarity
with the economic conditions of Chaucer s work, requires almost any explicator of Chaucer s work to
indulge, to some degree, in Marxist criticism.
In her essay The Franklin as Dorigen, Susan Crane blends Marxist and feminist approaches to point
out links between the Franklin and the heroine of his tale. The heroine of romance, she notes, occupies
an insecure position in society. Noble by birth, and therefore superior to the common run of people,
she is nevertheless still a woman, in a society which marginalizes women (Crane 238 239). The
superior/subordinate position of Dorigen, Crane says, is an echo of the Franklin s own unclear status
as a possible member of the gentlemanly class. Like the woman of nobility, the Franklin stands at the
boundary between authority and submission (240).
For Crane, a key element in the Franklin s choice of tale is his role as vavasour. Small land holders of
this sort often appear in Old French romances, depicted as peaceable, hospitable men disinclined to

8th Amendment Bars Cruel And Unusual Punishment
More than a hundred of Americans are wrongfully sent to death row. Hundreds of people die innocent.
Killing people for killing others is wrong in any situation. Though some people say when murder is
punished with death less people will commit crime, murdering is uncivil, especially when the person
is wrongfully accused. Killing someone for killing someone else is not an appropriate punishment.
According to the Constitution the death penalty is uncivil. The Eighth Amendment bars cruel and
unusual punishment, and that s what a lot of people say the death penalty is. People that have family
members killed aren t wanting the other person killed, just locked up. In 2015 Dylann Roof opened
fire in a church and killed nine people. Melvin Graham was one of the victim s brother and said Even
the ugliest of criminals should not be killed by the state. Not only is the death penalty uncivil, many
people get wrongfully accused. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people is often faulty. Eyewitness testimony is used in lots of murder convictions without any physical

three fourths have been wrongfully convicted based on mistaken eyewitness identification. Decades of
life are stolen from people on death row. Anthony Ray Hinton figured he had one or two years until he

wholeheartedly committed to gaining it back. Although Travis Manion served as a Marine, he truly
lived up to the SEAL code. One line of the SEAL code states the responsibility needed for such

The method of using factual guilt would allow more convicts to be sentenced with innocent citizens
also being punished as where the current method of legal guilt will protect innocent people from being
sentenced but allowing more suspects getting away with the law. With Sinclair s case, the due process
of legal guilt protects one s right till proven guilty was applied and executed as intended without
having conflicts with the law, evidence was provided and a violation in the law was found thus
confirming his sentence. The methodology has proven to work in this case and in several other cases
as well. If factual guilt was used, the chances of Sinclair getting the same sentence would be
considerably high. The reason why legal guilt would be better is to prevent people from being
punished unnessarily. Also the Code mentions how one s rights should not be abandoned under any
circumstances and is innocent till proven guilty. Arguments can be made that factual guilt can be more
beneficial, preventing murders like O.J. Simpson escaping from the law, making communities more
safe. The drawback of this is the violation of section 11 in the Charter of rights and freedom
preventing people feeling confident in their law enforcement and increasing their chances of being

The proliferation and evolution of international trading and commerce have not only opened the
gateway to international markets for many of the world s emerging economies, but they have also
fostered an unprecedented growth in the number of multinational corporations. Spurred by trade
agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the World Trade

policies have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The IASB and the FASB have both established frameworks for the reporting of financial information,
however, despite their apparent similarities several key differences exist between their structures. For
example, U.S. GAAP has been traditionally defined as being a more rules based standard, which has
established strict guidelines and contingencies for reporting financial information. Given its history
and the recent tumultuous financial environment, particularly the 2008 financial crisis, U.S. GAAP
has become a very robust and strictly enforced set of standards. This has given rise to concerns that
some preparers of financial statements may commit accounting fraud by circumventing or
manipulating the rules of U.S. GAAP. Supporters of IFRS argue that the more detailed the guidance,
the greater the opportunity to find the loopholes in the guidance (Hillman, Heaston, and Dodd 5).
Despite these concerns, however, U.S. GAAP continues to be the preferred standard of most
accounting professionals. Conversely, IFRS is a principles based standard. The principles based
approach of IFRS grants management the discretion to use different accounting methods when
preparing financial data. While this practice is praised for its focus on fair values and the freedoms it
provides managers, it is often criticized for being far too subjective and inviting a human element that
could increase the risk of financial

Growing up he would sing at his family functions or at his parents tavern to get some spare change.
When he was finally old enough to get a real job, he began trying to sing on radio shows before his

Secrets have always drawn our curiosity. But scarier, darker secrets seem to draw the human in more

stretching my arms above my head, breathing in all the delicious scents. I walked out into the hallway
through the twists and turns and arrived in the kitchen. My mother was finishing up with the last

Lucky, By Alice Sebold
At some point in their life, every person has been told to walk in somebody else s shoes because they
need to be aware of the struggles that other people face, but it is often tough for people to understand
things outside of the scope of their own practical knowledge. In her memoir, Lucky, Alice Sebold
suffers from this same problem. Throughout the course of her narrative, Sebold thinks of her
experience as something that is accessible to be understood by outsiders; in addition to this, Sebold
paints her reactions and experiences as a model that she can apply to other victims of sexual assault.
Even though Sebold s story is one of strength in the face of horrible occurrences, her lack of
acknowledgement in regards the ways in which other people s consciousness and coping mechanisms
differ from her own makes it far more difficult to sympathize with her than it should be considering
the content of her memoir. Evidence of her closed world understanding can be seen from the
beginning of the memoir, when she reports her sexual assault to the police (Sebold, 3), later in the
narrative, when other people react to her experiences and related feelings (Sebold 146), and finally,
and perhaps most significantly, when her close friend Lila undergoes a sexual assault (Sebold 220). To
begin, in the memoir Lucky, Alice Sebold makes a powerful start to her writing by telling the reader
about what happened to her, and, later in that same initial paragraph, she clarifies the reason for

Negative Critique on Alan Goldman s View on Medical...
Medical Paternalism In the realm of medical ethics, there are many topics that are debated and
discussed, but there is not necessarily one clear, correct answer. One of these topics is paternalism.
Many questions are bandied back and forth: is it beneficial, should it be disallowed entirely, are there
instances when paternalism is good and beneficial, and the list goes on. For each of these questions
there have been authors who have provided their comments. One such author is Alan Goldman. He
draws a very firm line on paternalism, simply put: medical paternalism is deleterious to a patient
because it intrudes on their primary rights of liberty and autonomy. This paper is going to expound
upon Goldman s viewpoint in detail, going through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then breaks his argument down into several smaller sections. For starters, he outlines what he
believes to be the common argument made by those who are in favor of medical paternalism. He
presents five points that encompass that viewpoint.
First, disclosure of information to the patient will sometimes increase the likelihood of depression and
physical deterioration, or result in the choice of medically inoptimal treatment. Second, disclosure of
information is therefore sometimes likely to be detrimental to the patient s health, and perhaps hasten
his death. Third, health and prolonged life can be assumed to have priority among preferences for
patients who place themselves under physicians care. Fourth, Worsening health or hastening death can
therefore be assumed to be contrary to patients own true value orderings. Lastly, paternalism is
therefore justified: doctor may sometimes override patients prima facie rights to information about
their risks and treatments or about their own conditions in order to prevent harm (Vaughn, 96.)
Goldman then goes on to tackle just one of those points, with his argument being if one point in the
opposing argument can be discredited, then the whole argument falls apart. The point that he believes
to be wrong is the third point: it can be presumed that a patient s health and well being carry more
weight than other aspects of their life. Goldman presents several reasons why he believes the third
point to be

Essay on Professional Athletes as Role Models
Are Today s Professional Athletes Good Role Models? Everyday today s youth are asked what they
want to be when they grow up. Some say teachers, firemen, police officers and a large response to that
question is a professional athlete. Something that all these professions have in common is that they are
all role models to children. Firemen, teachers, police officers have an easy job at doing this; they are
after all the people that save children, teach children and protect children. But professional athletes on
the other hand have a difficult task assigned to them when it comes to being role models. Professional

If she were to give a percentage of athletes who do this it could be more valid. After looking through
all the research I have done I have found more high profile players who have done time in jail than
have done for a charity. For instance, Kobe Bryant was recently on trial for the rape of a young girl in
Colorado. Mike Tyson was in jail for physically harming is wife, not to mention biting the ear off of
Evander Holyfield. Leon Lett of the Dallas Cowboys was put to jail for selling cocaine. All these
professional athletes are people that kids know. They don t know the guys who are spending their free
time helping a charity. Athletes should not be role models because of the things they do off the court
or field. They do way too many bad things that youth hear about which might make them want to
follow the same path. According to Gary Sailes in his essay Professional Athletes: Cultural Icons or
Social Anomalies: 16 players from the 2001 Super Bowl were involved in a crime one way or another.
Those crimes range from drunk driving to assault to murder threats. These are things that everyone
hears about. A child may not be a fan of a football but sooner or later he/she is going to turn the TV
and notice a player going to jail. If athletes are supposed to be role models, going to jail is not a good
thing. Society can t say professional athletes should be role

Comparing The Massachusetts Bay Colony And The Virginia...
The Massachusetts Bay colony and the Virginia colony were both English colonies founded around
the same time period in the early 17th century. The Virginia colony somewhere between 1607 and
1611, and the Massachusetts colony in 1629. Though similar they faced different challenges, such as
the Massachusetts colony in King Philip s war or the Virginia colony dealing with Bacon s rebellion. .
The Massachusetts Bay colony was originally founded by a group of Puritans who were led by John
Winthrop. John Winthrop was a wealthy and educated Puritan who helped fund the colony on its
voyage to the new world and for supplies. He would eventually serve four terms as the governor of the
colony. For their efforts King Charles I granted the Massachusetts Bay company a royal charter.A
royal charter was a signed order by the King which granted special privileges and powers to either a
single person or in this case to the company. This officially made the colony part of the empire and
encouraged migration to the settlement.
For managing and the general running of the settlement the Massachusetts colony was done by two
elected officials. The Governor of the colony was an elected official who was elected by the members
of the London company. John Winthrop would be the Governor and implemented a voting system for
the colony. For elected officials, a secret ballot would be held and all freemen were allowed to vote in
this election. For lawmaking, John thought that holding a vote over every

Research Paper On War On Drugs
The topic I will be discussing is the War on Drugs. I will discuss the War on Drugs in relation to mass
incarceration and to what consequences the War on drugs has caused among people and society itself.
I have always been interested by the War on Drugs. However, slowly realizing, I only knew so much
about the issue. As I further researched I learned what the term, War on Drugs really means. The War
on Drugs is about the prohibition of drugs in society. Therefore, I strongly believe that the Drug War is
a very controversial issue in our society today. Not only does the Drug War affect our neighborhoods
and society in which we live in, but it also has effects on incarceration rates and crime, racial disparity,
and employment.
We have been fighting the War on Drugs since 1971 when President Richard Nixon declared drug

Essay about The Philippines
The Philippines is bordered by the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
It has three major island groups which are the Luzon, the largest island and where the capital is
located; Visayan, and Mindanao. Eleven islands make up 94 percent of the Philippine landmass, and
two of these Luzon and Mindanao measure 105,000 and 95,000 square kilometers, respectively. They,
together with the cluster of the Visayan Islands that separate them, represent the three principal
regions of the archipelago (many scattered islands in a large body of water) that are identified by the
three stars on the Philippine flag.

Land Use
Due to the effects of urbanization and industry, the amount of land available for agriculture is rapidly
reducing. Of the total land area of 792,607 hectares for Negros Occidental (the Philippines) the
Alienable and Disposable (A amp; D) areas covers 68.17 percent 0r 540,350.13 hectares. Classified
Forest Land occupies 31.83 percent ( 252,256.53 hectares). Cropland makes up most of which is
considered Alienable and Disposable. This includes the residential, commercial and institutional areas
as well as agricultural lands. Fish ponds are also found in this area occupying an area of 9,333.14
hectares. Zoning and land use plans have been put into place to regulate the development of
communities ensuring that the distribution of land is properly allocated so that it is not in incompatible
use. Despite these measures, many farmers are very poor. The average size of an individual farm in the
Philippines is 1.5. hectares. Small farms can only produce enough for subsistence purposes.
The Filipino Government implemented the International Rice Research Institute to assist the country
in becoming self sufficient. This institute attempts to persuade farmers

The Term Cochlear Amplifier, Coined By Thomas Gold
The term cochlear amplifier, coined by Thomas Gold in 1948, can be described as a positive feedback
mechanism whereby outer hair cells amplify displacements of the basilar membrane in the cochlea. It
characterises the collection of processes that increase sound vibrations in the inner ear (Ashmore Gale,
2004). Sounds are generated by movement of air molecules that create changes in air pressure. These
changes in pressure are called compressions, when the molecules are closer together, and rarefication,
when the molecules are less densely packed and are cyclic, thus making a pressure wave. The human
auditory system is able to respond to these pressure waves over a range of about 20 hertz (Hz) to
20,000 Hz. The intensity of a sound is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This electromotility of the OHCs has been attributed to the motor protein, prestin, which is embedded
in the cell membrane, and it is the role of these mechanical changes that has been identified in
amplifying the vibrations of the cochlea in the transduction of sound (Zheng et al., 2000). The
outcome is an enhancement of the basilar membrane amplitude by more than one hundred times
(Davies, 2014).
The key to the cochlea amplifier mechanism is the prestin motor protein as it is this that underlies the
activity of the OHCs. On the apical surface of sensory hair cells are finger like projections, forming
hair bundles, called stereocilia. These stereocilia bathe in a cochlear fluid containing about 145 mM of
potassium which is called endolymph. The deflection of a single stereocilium invokes a pull on a
spring which links to the tip of the neighbouring stereocilium and thus pulls it in the same direction. A
domino effect subsequently occurs until the whole hair bundle has been moved. This process causes
mechanically gated transducer channels, which are non selectively permeable to cations and are
located at the base of the tip links, to open. This provides a passage for potassium to enter the hair
cells down its electrochemical gradient as the electric potential of the endolymph, +80 mV, is much
greater than that of the hair cell body, between 55 mV and 70

Personal Experience In Life In My Life Of Swaminarayanism
I have been a follower of Swaminarayanism for all seventeen years of my life, but during my
childhood, temple and religion were just a Sunday obligation. My parents would encourage me to
attend the weekly sabhas (assemblies) held at the temple, but I would often refuse because I was
scared and shy. I followed Swaminarayanism solely because my parents followed it, and for that
reason was very uninterested in the culture and religious values. As I grew older, I came to the
realization there were many fruits of Swaminarayanism, and that temple was one place to take refuge
even when everything in the world was going wrong. It opened many new opportunities for me. I
started to volunteer at the mandir by helping young children learn all that is good in life through the
values of religion. I created a bond between the kids and Swaminarayanism, and although I was not a
firm believer at their age, I wanted to make sure that they had that connection and conviction to god
and to Pramukh Swami Maharaj. Swaminarayanism has taught me to help others and appreciate the
things I have. I dream of becoming a doctor because it will help me live by Pramukh Swami Maharaj s
motto: In the Joy of Others Lies Our Own. Being a successful doctor and helping out the less fortunate
is one of the best feelings in the world, and Swaminarayanism has instilled these values within me. I
want to be a part of the Doctors Without Borders organization so I am able to serve the unfortunate
people across seas.

Therefore, this study attempt to provide some viewpoints, and empirical results to understand this

core competencies within the researched companies. 4. Investigating the role of core competencies in
achieving competitive advantage fore the researched companies. 3. Literature Review 3.1. Core
Competence Much of the research on competitive advantage focused on core competencies as a major
source of that advantage, core competencies include the particular set of skills and resources affirm
possesses as well as the way those resources are used to produce outcomes (Fiol, 2001). The concept
of core competence, as fundamental to organizational renewal and as a driving force behind strategic
change, interests both managers and scholars. It is a complex and challenging concept: it is difficult to
specify theoretically, to identify empirically as a phenomenon, and to apply in practice. Scholars have
recently recognized these problems in general conceptual discussions (Hafsi and Thomas, 2005) and
in core competence specific empirical research (Wang et al., 2004). Competencies are commonly
agreed to reside in individuals and teams of individuals, implying that the competence concept
involves a cumulative hierarchy. This cumulative hierarchy notion is evident in many streams of
research concerning the

The Italian Culture And Its Impact On Western Culture

Economics In Steven Levitt s Freakonomics
Every action I have and will ever take in my life can be analysed through the tools of economics. This
is true for many sciences; such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Psychology, to name but a few.
However what sets Economics apart is how it is perhaps the only science that would significantly and
consistently improve the quality of my decisions if applied. Further more, what makes Economics
truly outstanding is its diversity and broad range of application.
I have recently began reading economic literature, it seems as if the more I read the more enthralling
Economics becomes. A novel I have read recently, Freakonomics by Steven Levitt, Stephen Dubner, is
about the versatility of data, how data can be used to solve complex problems and how data can
provoke insightful questions. I remember one night thinking how some lawyers earn a lot of money
while others have an average salary, instantly a torrent of ideas washed over me, I realised that this
discrepancy in wages is proof that the criminal justice system is unfair and biased towards those who
can afford a superior lawyer. So much data could be collected and collated, so many interesting
questions could arrive from this study such as do people who are wealthier behave more ethically then
those less well off.
I enjoy challenges, the more abstract or harder a concept is the more I will try to understand it fully.

The Rights Of Women During The World Is Treated The Same,...
To start off, the very broad term of equality is the notion that every human being in the world is
treated the same, no matter their age, gender, class, or race. Comparing to other political systems,
democracy values equality more than any other as it involves the commitment in upholding equal
treatments between citizens. To measure the level of democracy in a territory in terms of associational
autonomy, one must observe the level of equality that is promoted in that country. Looking at any
state, minorities are primarily the ones discriminated against by their government and citizens. In
Tunisia, the minorities are women and as a result they were secluded in economic, political, and social
affairs. The period of time when women were mostly segregated in Tunisia was when the state was
under the possession of France. Women living in Tunisia during this period were mainly housewives
as they did not have much access to education and were required to wear veils in public. However,
once Tunisia received its independence in 1956 from France, the Personal Status Code was created by
the republic government which provided females several legal rights such as the right to divorce, the
right to receive an education, and the right to obtain an occupation. As the laws were implemented
over the years, women activists noticed that the legislation was too elusive and did not properly
outline the terms for equality. Due to this, women experienced discrimination in several areas such as

Bloomberg s Commitment to Public Health
Bloomberg s commitment to public health was certainly strong throughout his time as mayor of New
York. On the one hand, he understood the importance in addressing some of the largest health issues
of our time. On the other however, it seems that many of his policies were made without proper
scientific evidence and backing and were made based on his own personal philosophies rather those of
the people they affected. He himself said I just spent roughly $600 million of my own money to try to
stop the scourge of tobacco {NYT}
Positive Aspects:
The Mayor took charge of the fight against numerous issues and implemented some of the strictest
public health legislation in the world. Some of the more notable examples were his stances on
smoking and obesity. Not only did Bloomberg make policies, which directly addressed the core cause
of the issues, but also he succeeded in levying the blame and burden of these policies upon the
industries that were profiteering at the cost of the public s health. Among the most significant of these
policies were the efforts to tax sugary drinks and ban others in a move that stated that the sale of any
cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces about the size of a medium coffee, and
smaller than a common soda bottle would be prohibited {NYT}. Evidently, this policy was aimed at
reducing the runaway obesity rates that were being experienced in New York City. Additionally, the
smoking ban in restaurants and in the work

The Power Of Power In The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins
In a life where one must rebel to stand up for what is right. In a world where there is only one
government. In a game to kill or be killed. Who truly has the power? In the novel The Hunger Games
by Suzanne Collins, power is shown in many parts of the book. Although the government is initially
successful at controlling everyone s lives in the Districts, as Katniss journey of survival progresses in
the Hunger Games, her rebellious actions damage the Capitol s power. This causes her to prove the
Capitol that they do not own her, and she has self power. Throughout the book, Suzanne Collins
portrays that everyone has certain control. Collins uses the Districts, the rebellions, and the Capitol to
get this message across to the readers. Despite being overpowered by the Capitol, the Districts still
have some control over what they can do. First, the people in their District stand together. Then
something unexpected happens..... [a]t first one, then another, then almost every member of the crowd
touches the three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and holds it out to me.....[i]t means
thanks, it means admiration (Collins 24). In the text, District 12 is showing that they are refusing to
applaud for Katniss to enter the games. This shows that the government has brute force on their side,
but the people of District 12 have their own kind of power. This helps Katniss feel as though she is not
alone, and everyone will always be with her. Their three finger gesture makes

Too Much Violence and Bullying among Adolescents
Over the years, there has been an increase in the number of youth violence and social/relational
bullying incidents among adolescents. Dresler Hawke and Whitehead (2009, p. 195) define relational
bullying as a form of victimization whereby peer relationships are purposefully undermined with the
intention of socially excluding individuals. Relational bullying relates to the adolescent as this is an
indirect form of bullying that has a negative impact on the social development of this population
(Vessey, DiFazio, and Strout, 2013, p. 338). This paper focuses on the negative impacts that bullying
has on an adolescent s social development (isolation, difficulties within peer relationships, and
decreased social status) and the interventions that nurses use to promote health and wellness on bullied
victims.
The importance of developing peer relationships is crucial to adolescent development. Adolescents
growing up in a safe and healthy environment among their peers helps foster a positive growth,
development, and well being (Dresler Hawke et. al., 2009, p. 196). Barbara Jones Warren (2011, p. 22)
states that a primary goal of bullying is to socially exclude or isolate individuals from others with a
school or workplace setting. Relational bullying has a negative impact as adolescents become socially
withdrawn from their peers and experience feelings of loneliness and rejection. As a result, this
impacts their academic performance and attendance, causing them to withdraw from

Chiquita in Colombia: Funding Paramilitary Groups to Protect Business and Employees

United Fruit Company, a company that grows bananas in Central America and exports them to North
America and Europe, became Chiquita Brands International in 1984 through a series of mergers and

The company could have closed down and sold its banana plantation in Colombia, but Chiquita let the
atrocities continue for years. Perhaps Chiquita was following the analytical framework of
utilitarianism. Chiquita may have thought that making these payments to paramilitary groups was
protecting more workers than it was harming; therefore, it was the right thing to do.
Knowing that paramilitary groups had murdered Chiquita workers, one would assume continuing to
make payments to these groups would be wrong. When Chiquita continued making payments and
workers were still being massacred, one should consider stopping the payments and selling the
farmland. Perhaps Chiquita could even relocate the banana plantation and help relocate the workers to
a more secure area.
Chiquita faced legal challenges by doing business in a politically unstable foreign environment. A
lesson learned from this case is to keep up with and always abide by the laws set in the foreign
country, as well as one s own country. Following the laws and making sure one knows the laws is
good advice for any firm starting a business in a similarly volatile

Christi Renzi October 23, 2017 The Basic Principles of Communication We will never know
everything there is to know about relationships with others or ourselves because the communication
process is complexed (Bevan sole, 2014). Communication is the main key to being successful in any

people who share meaning through messages that is either verbal or non verbal messages through

If the skills are taught to the mentee and evaluated for competencies, then even in the event of that educator moving on to the higher level, department can function well with new person in place, which would be the mentee. Mentoring can be empowering to the mentee as the leader let go of some of his or her reins and let the mentee expand the skill set (Federer, 2014). While slavery was abolished in the 19th century, it did not dissipate completely and it wasn t until the beginning of the 20th century that the issue of child sex trafficking began to receive significant attention. This was in part due to the Trafficking Victim s Protection Act (TVPA) that was passed in 2000 which protected victims of trafficking by enhancing criminal penalties under the law as well as made benefits and services to victims available (TVPA, 2000). The post 911 environment embraced a crime control approach by focusing more on combating organized crime activity instead of the issue of human rights and the recognition of victimization (DeCeoursty, 2016). However, this crime control approach to human trafficking failed to address the underlying structural problems, which is the high demand for the sex trafficking industry. In general, banking services have changed over the past three decades to meet the consumers needs (McKinsey Company, 2012); at that time, when the consumer needed money for purchases or to make a transaction, he needed to go to the bank by himself during the bank hours and perhaps waited in a long line to meet a human teller to implement his transaction. Nowadays, due to the E channels that surfaced with the development of technology and the Internet, the processes of banking have changed. The consumer can make a transaction from one account to another while sitting in his couch anytime and anywhere. • 5. The New England And Chesapeake Colonies The seventeenth century brought plenty of changes to North America. One of the most significant ones was the formation of the thirteen colonies along the North American east coast. These colonies are generally divided into New England, Middle and South or the Chesapeake regions. Most of these colonies were settled by the British, yet they developed differently as the years went by. Some developed into more egalitarian colonies and some not. These factors later developed into different customs and traditions which led to the varied differences between the New England and Chesapeake colonies. The differences between these colonies also arose due to different opinion on functioning of the government and ideologies. New England, being majorly settled by the Puritans, was intolerant to all other religions. The one exception to this was the colony of Rhode Island. Because it was settled by a dissenter from the Massachusetts Bay colony, it was the only New England colony to have complete religious freedom. Most of the New England based groups wanted to reform the Anglican Church from inside. The Chesapeake region was completely tied to the Anglican Church and did not care about reforming it in any way. The New England colonies also had a large central government which allowed for their administrations to be more organized and uniform throughout the region. This idea came from the Mayflower Compact signed at Plymouth by the Pilgrims. The title game alone can generate an enormous amount of revenue because of all the advertising that the NCAA does prior to the game. When it comes to college basketball, it is basically the same thing. This sport alone generates large amounts of money because it is a popular sport in the United States. • 7. Essay about Chaucer s Canterbury Tales Chaucer s Canterbury Tales After reading explications of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, a student is likely to come away with the impression that the Franklin is the critics favorite punching bag. To the average reader in the modern English speaking world, the Franklin comes across as surprisingly fair minded and level headed, noteworthy as the man kind and inventive enough to resolve the marriage cycle with a tale of decency and openness. The critics, however, often depict the Franklin as a man primarily concerned with upward mobility, finding in his tale a number of remarks intended to win over the nobility and subtly assert his own claim to a kind of nobility. The contrast between the fawning Franklin of certain critical approaches and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marxist critics look for social and economic themes in a work, ones of which the author was unaware because the authors own consciousness is affected by the system of production in which he or she lived (157). This critical stance is particularly fitting when one approaches the Canterbury Tales: Chaucer s conscious emphasis on social class, combined with a modern reader s lack of familiarity with the economic conditions of Chaucer s work, requires almost any explicator of Chaucer s work to indulge, to some degree, in Marxist criticism. In her essay The Franklin as Dorigen, Susan Crane blends Marxist and feminist approaches to point out links between the Franklin and the heroine of his tale. The heroine of romance, she notes, occupies an insecure position in society. Noble by birth, and therefore superior to the common run of people, she is nevertheless still a woman, in a society which marginalizes women (Crane 238 239). The superior/subordinate position of Dorigen, Crane says, is an echo of the Franklin s own unclear status as a possible member of the gentlemanly class. Like the woman of nobility, the Franklin stands at the boundary between authority and submission (240). For Crane, a key element in the Franklin s choice of tale is his role as vavasour. The IASB and the FASB have both established frameworks for the reporting of financial information, however, despite their apparent similarities several key differences exist between their structures. For example, U.S. GAAP has been traditionally defined as being a more rules based standard, which has established strict guidelines and contingencies for reporting financial information. Given its history and the recent tumultuous financial environment, particularly the 2008 financial crisis, U.S. GAAP has become a very robust and strictly enforced set of standards. This has given rise to concerns that some preparers of financial statements may commit accounting fraud by circumventing or manipulating the rules of U.S. GAAP. Supporters of IFRS argue that the more detailed the guidance, the greater the opportunity to find the loopholes in the guidance (Hillman, Heaston, and Dodd 5). Despite these concerns, however, U.S. GAAP continues to be the preferred standard of most accounting professionals. Conversely, IFRS is a principles based standard. The principles based approach of IFRS grants management the discretion to use different accounting methods when preparing financial data. Lucky, By Alice Sebold At some point in their life, every person has been told to walk in somebody else s shoes because they need to be aware of the struggles that other people face, but it is often tough for people to understand things outside of the scope of their own practical knowledge. In her memoir, Lucky, Alice Sebold suffers from this same problem. Throughout the course of her narrative, Sebold thinks of her experience as something that is accessible to be understood by outsiders; in addition to this, Sebold paints her reactions and experiences as a model that she can apply to other victims of sexual assault. Even though Sebold s story is one of strength in the face of horrible occurrences, her lack of acknowledgement in regards the ways in which other people s consciousness and coping mechanisms differ from her own makes it far more difficult to sympathize with her than it should be considering the content of her memoir. Evidence of her closed world understanding can be seen from the beginning of the memoir, when she reports her sexual assault to the police (Sebold, 3), later in the narrative, when other people react to her experiences and related feelings (Sebold 146), and finally, and perhaps most significantly, when her close friend Lila undergoes a sexual assault (Sebold 220). To begin, in the memoir Lucky, Alice Sebold makes a powerful start to her writing by telling the reader about what happened to her, and, later in that same initial paragraph, she clarifies the reason for ... For each of these questions there have been authors who have provided their comments. One such author is Alan Goldman. For starters, he outlines what he believes to be the common argument made by those who are in favor of medical paternalism. He presents five points that encompass that viewpoint. First, disclosure of information to the patient will sometimes increase the likelihood of depression and physical deterioration, or result in the choice of medically inoptimal treatment. Second, disclosure of information is therefore sometimes likely to be detrimental to the patient s health, and perhaps hasten his death. Third, health and prolonged life can be assumed to have priority among preferences for patients who place themselves under physicians care. Fourth, Worsening health or hastening death can therefore be assumed to be contrary to patients own true value orderings. Lastly, paternalism is therefore justified: doctor may sometimes override patients prima facie rights to information about their risks and treatments or about their own conditions in order to prevent harm (Vaughn, 96.) Goldman then goes on to tackle just one of those points, with his argument being if one point in the opposing argument can be discredited, then the whole argument falls apart. • 22. The Term Cochlear Amplifier, Coined By Thomas Gold The term cochlear amplifier, coined by Thomas Gold in 1948, can be described as a positive feedback mechanism whereby outer hair cells amplify displacements of the basilar membrane in the cochlea. It characterises the collection of processes that increase sound vibrations in the inner ear (Ashmore Gale, 2004). Sounds are generated by movement of air molecules that create changes in air pressure. These changes in pressure are called compressions, when the molecules are closer together, and rarefication, when the molecules are less densely packed and are cyclic, thus making a pressure wave. The human auditory system is able to respond to these pressure waves over a range of about 20 hertz (Hz) to 20,000 Hz. The intensity of a sound is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This electromotility of the OHCs has been attributed to the motor protein, prestin, which is embedded in the cell membrane, and it is the role of these mechanical changes that has been identified in amplifying the vibrations of the cochlea in the transduction of sound (Zheng et al., 2000). The outcome is an enhancement of the basilar membrane amplitude by more than one hundred times (Davies, 2014). The key to the cochlea amplifier mechanism is the prestin motor protein as it is this that underlies the activity of the OHCs. On the apical surface of sensory hair cells are finger like projections, forming hair bundles, called stereocilia. These stereocilia bathe in a cochlear fluid containing about 145 mM of potassium which is called endolymph. The deflection of a single stereocilium invokes a pull on a spring which links to the tip of the neighbouring stereocilium and thus pulls it in the same direction. A domino effect subsequently occurs until the whole hair bundle has been moved. This process causes mechanically gated transducer channels, which are non selectively permeable to cations and are located at the base of the tip links, to open. This provides a passage for potassium to enter the hair cells down its electrochemical gradient as the electric potential of the endolymph, +80 mV, is much greater than that of the hair cell body, between 55 mV and 70 ... Core Competence Much of the research on competitive advantage focused on core competencies as a major source of that advantage, core competencies include the particular set of skills and resources affirm possesses as well as the way those resources are used to produce outcomes (Fiol, 2001). The concept of core competence, as fundamental to organizational renewal and as a driving force behind strategic change, interests both managers and scholars. It is a complex and challenging concept: it is difficult to specify theoretically, to identify empirically as a phenomenon, and to apply in practice. Scholars have recently recognized these problems in general conceptual discussions (Hafsi and Thomas, 2005) and in core competence specific empirical research (Wang et al., 2004). Competencies are commonly agreed to reside in individuals and teams of individuals, implying that the competence concept involves a cumulative hierarchy. This is true for many sciences; such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Psychology, to name but a few. However what sets Economics apart is how it is perhaps the only science that would significantly and consistently improve the quality of my decisions if applied. Further more, what makes Economics truly outstanding is its diversity and broad range of application. I have recently began reading economic literature, it seems as if the more I read the more enthralling Economics becomes. A novel I have read recently, Freakonomics by Steven Levitt, Stephen Dubner, is about the versatility of data, how data can be used to solve complex problems and how data can provoke insightful questions. I remember one night thinking how some lawyers earn a lot of money while others have an average salary, instantly a torrent of ideas washed over me, I realised that this discrepancy in wages is proof that the criminal justice system is unfair and biased towards those who can afford a superior lawyer. • 27. The Rights Of Women During The World Is Treated The Same,... To start off, the very broad term of equality is the notion that every human being in the world is treated the same, no matter their age, gender, class, or race. Comparing to other political systems, democracy values equality more than any other as it involves the commitment in upholding equal treatments between citizens. To measure the level of democracy in a territory in terms of associational autonomy, one must observe the level of equality that is promoted in that country. Looking at any state, minorities are primarily the ones discriminated against by their government and citizens. In Tunisia, the minorities are women and as a result they were secluded in economic, political, and social affairs. The period of time when women were mostly segregated in Tunisia was when the state was under the possession of France. Women living in Tunisia during this period were mainly housewives as they did not have much access to education and were required to wear veils in public. However, once Tunisia received its independence in 1956 from France, the Personal Status Code was created by the republic government which provided females several legal rights such as the right to divorce, the right to receive an education, and the right to obtain an occupation. As the laws were implemented over the years, women activists noticed that the legislation was too elusive and did not properly outline the terms for equality. Due to this, women experienced discrimination in several areas such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Bloomberg s Commitment to Public Health Bloomberg s commitment to public health was certainly strong throughout his time as mayor of New York. On the one hand, he understood the importance in addressing some of the largest health issues of our time. On the other however, it seems that many of his policies were made without proper scientific evidence and backing and were made based on his own personal philosophies rather those of the people they affected. He himself said I just spent roughly $600 million of my own money to try to stop the scourge of tobacco {NYT} Positive Aspects: The Mayor took charge of the fight against numerous issues and implemented some of the strictest public health legislation in the world. Some of the more notable examples were his stances on smoking and obesity. Not only did Bloomberg make policies, which directly addressed the core cause of the issues, but also he succeeded in levying the blame and burden of these policies upon the industries that were profiteering at the cost of the public s health. Among the most significant of these policies were the efforts to tax sugary drinks and ban others in a move that stated that the sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces about the size of a medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle would be prohibited {NYT}. Evidently, this policy was aimed at reducing the runaway obesity rates that were being experienced in New York City. Additionally, the smoking ban in restaurants and in the work ... • 29. The Power Of Power In The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins In a life where one must rebel to stand up for what is right. In a world where there is only one government. In a game to kill or be killed. Who truly has the power? In the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, power is shown in many parts of the book. Although the government is initially successful at controlling everyone s lives in the Districts, as Katniss journey of survival progresses in the Hunger Games, her rebellious actions damage the Capitol s power. This causes her to prove the Capitol that they do not own her, and she has self power. Throughout the book, Suzanne Collins portrays that everyone has certain control. Collins uses the Districts, the rebellions, and the Capitol to get this message across to the readers. Despite being overpowered by the Capitol, the Districts still have some control over what they can do. First, the people in their District stand together. Then something unexpected happens..... [a]t first one, then another, then almost every member of the crowd touches the three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and holds it out to me.....[i]t means thanks, it means admiration (Collins 24). In the text, District 12 is showing that they are refusing to applaud for Katniss to enter the games. This shows that the government has brute force on their side, but the people of District 12 have their own kind of power. This helps Katniss feel as though she is not alone, and everyone will always be with her. Their three finger gesture makes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Too Much Violence and Bullying among Adolescents Over the years, there has been an increase in the number of youth violence and social/relational bullying incidents among adolescents. Dresler Hawke and Whitehead (2009, p. 195) define relational bullying as a form of victimization whereby peer relationships are purposefully undermined with the intention of socially excluding individuals. Relational bullying relates to the adolescent as this is an indirect form of bullying that has a negative impact on the social development of this population (Vessey, DiFazio, and Strout, 2013, p. 338). This paper focuses on the negative impacts that bullying has on an adolescent s social development (isolation, difficulties within peer relationships, and decreased social status) and the interventions that nurses use to promote health and wellness on bullied victims. The importance of developing peer relationships is crucial to adolescent development. Adolescents growing up in a safe and healthy environment among their peers helps foster a positive growth, development, and well being (Dresler Hawke et. al., 2009, p. 196). Barbara Jones Warren (2011, p. 22) states that a primary goal of bullying is to socially exclude or isolate individuals from others with a school or workplace setting. Relational bullying has a negative impact as adolescents become socially withdrawn from their peers and experience feelings of loneliness and rejection. As a result, this impacts their academic performance and attendance, causing them to withdraw from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The company could have closed down and sold its banana plantation in Colombia, but Chiquita let the atrocities continue for years. Perhaps Chiquita was following the analytical framework of utilitarianism. Chiquita may have thought that making these payments to paramilitary groups was protecting more workers than it was harming; therefore, it was the right thing to do. Knowing that paramilitary groups had murdered Chiquita workers, one would assume continuing to make payments to these groups would be wrong. When Chiquita continued making payments and workers were still being massacred, one should consider stopping the payments and selling the farmland. Perhaps Chiquita could even relocate the banana plantation and help relocate the workers to a more secure area. Chiquita faced legal challenges by doing business in a politically unstable foreign environment. A lesson learned from this case is to keep up with and always abide by the laws set in the foreign country, as well as one s own country.
