The Creation Of Creation In A West African Tale
In many cultures comma people have made their own stories of creation. These tales come from all
around the globe. Creation stories can come from the Bible, the Cherokee Indians, the West Africans,
and the Egyptians. The Bible says that God created the Earth whereas the Egyptians believe that a
different type of god created the land mass. Cherokee lore states that animals create the Earth. A West
African Tale tells how Otabala sprinkled roots from the Baobab tree and created the terrain of the
desert. These legends and tales tell how early humans explained how everything came to be. In
creation stories, many cultures showed similar themes even though most had no connections to one
another.

Earth was created thousands upon thousands of years ago and according to these religions, by a
powerful being or beings. When these individuals created their worlds, the reasons were all varied.
God, from the Bible, created the Earth out of the loneliness he was in beforehand. In West Africa s
account the Olorun help create Earth with tree roots. These beings created Earth because they wanted
to do something with the water abyss that lay below them. Amun, the Egyptian god of creation, was
said to have created the land, which was known as Ben ben and created other gods. Amun created the
globe out of his obligation to create due to his nature as the creation god. The Cherokee believed that
the Earth was created because of the animals wanting of rest. A water beetle carried the mud that was
at the bottom of the watery void, and stacked it until it became the landmass that all creatures inhabit.
With these creation stories beginnings, they share common thoughts. These ancient Tales have

Although the Mesopotamia civilization was thought to be located in between the Tigris and Euphrates

Indus Valley , now New Delhi , India , these two civilizations have many similarities and also many

types of governments , political structures , social structures , intuitions and many more . Both
civilizations are considered to be ancient civilizations , meaning , based on the free dictionary* , the

Essay On The Cuban Missile Crisis
13 Days: How did President Kennedy bring the Cuban missile crisis to a peaceful conclusion?
What was the cuban missile crisis? Was it a war or was it a standoff between the United States and
Soviet Union? The Cuban Missile Crisis was basically a missile scare. It was an engagement between
the United States and the Soviet Union regarding Soviet ballistic missiles that were nuclear armed and
deployed in Cuba. The Soviet Union carried the missiles from overseas by ships. This lasted 13 days
and consisted of fear, fighting, and most of all, difficult decisions for both the U.S. and the Soviet
Union.
It was in October of 1962 that a U.S. spy plane discovered that the Soviet Union had nuclear equipped
missiles placed in the country of Cuba. This was a serious threat to the United States because Cuba
was just 90 miles from our shores and Cuba was a close ally of the Soviet Union. President Kennedy
was shocked and started right away to secretly meet with his advisors to discuss this big problem.
Nuclear equipped missiles could easily reach America being that we were so close to Cuba. He didn t
want the soviet union or cuba to know that he discovered the missiles. There were already tensions

If he did nothing, there was a good chance that the missiles would be fired on the U.S. By surrounding
Cuba with military ships, he risked provoking the Soviets. In the end, the decision to send a naval
blockade around Cuba seemed to scare the Soviets and Cuba. It prevented nuclear war and calmed
hostilities with the Soviet Union. It even opened up a line of communication with the Soviet Union.
The presidents of both countries had a direct line to each other in case future conflicts arose. As the
president, Kennedy had a lot of pressure to make sure that he was making smart judgements that
would keep the U.S. safe and keep peace around the

Snakes In Georgia s Ecosystem
Snakes
As many of you may know I grew up riding and showing horses. Many of my days were spent out at
the barn where my horse was boarded. There were many animals around the stable horses, dogs, cats
and your occasional snake. There was nothing like going to pick up a flake of hay for my horse and
there lay a snake on the bale of hay. Snakes hung around the stable because mice were around. The
mice were attracted to the horse feed. The snakes were attracted to the mice.
There are 42 snake species found in Georgia. Of these 42 species only 6 are venomous. The most
commonly observed snakes are the black racers, rat snakes and nonvenomous water snakes. Snakes
play an important role of Georgia s ecosystem since they are considered both predator and prey.
Snakes are also beneficial to have around because they feed on many animals that are labeled as pests.

which may result in you accidently stepping on or grabbing them. When a snake is stepped on or
grabbed, it may have an aggressive response as the result of it thinking that you are trying to harm it.
In order to avoid accidently stepping on or grabbing a snake never place your hands, arms, legs and
feet where you cannot see them. Wear closed toe shoes and long pants when walking through places
where you don t have a clear view. Walk around logs instead of stepping over them. When walking

Band Is More Than Just Playing an Instrument
I have been asked many times by my friends that aren t in band why are you in band? Get out of band
so we can be in the stands together during the game. band is lame, They do not understand what band
is really about. Band is not just about playing an instrument and marching. I started band in the 6th
grade, I honestly thought that I wasn t going to make it to my senior year, but here I am a senior in
band. I am not forced to be in band I can get out at anytime anyday, but I choose not to. It is hard
when you are marching and it feels like 100+ degrees. You feel like you want to pass out, but you just
have to suck it up and be tough. Throughout the years I have been in band I have created friendships. I
have my closest friends in band. I have created many memories in band that will last a lifetime, that I
will share one day with my kids. I do not know what I would do without band. Getting in band has
been the best decision I have ever made. Band has been the highlight of my high school years. One of
the scariest moments I have experienced in band was when we messed up at U.I.L. contest, I was
terrified I did not want us to make a 2, it all happened so fast. It was time to get our results, we made a
1, I was so happy. The judges said that if you were to close your eyes and listening to us, you would
not know we messed up. We never stopped playing and we recovered so fast, we were so matured

The Importance Of The G. I Bill
When military men go out for deployment, they usually struggle with physical and mental health
problems. They sometimes feel homesick and often, they feel disconnected to civilian life. The long
conflict or war usually requires them to be deployed several time and operate constantly under threat
of attack, these situations could lead to emotional problems to most of our military men. Their lives
while on service were not easy. Those who are weak do not know how to get back to their normal life.
They usually have difficulty in handling these problems. One soldier named Christopher Steavens, a
former Army staff sergeant who was among 819 vets polled. He served in Iraq in 2003 and in Kuwait
2012 where he was injured in a construction accident. He said When I raised my right hand and said, I
will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, when I gave them
everything I could, I expect the same in return, (Chandrasekaren) . Like many others in the military,
they rely on the government assistance when they get hurt or return home. The G.I Bill answered
some of the required assistances for our military men. The G. I. Bill is one of the most significant

a train ticket home. During this period, the nation economy was in great depression. Veterans found it
difficult to make a living. Although, the Congress tried to help by passing the Bonus Act, this law
provided a bonus based on the number of days of service and most veterans can only get it after 20
years. Consequently, a large group of veterans march to Washington DC to demand full payment of
their bonuses but did not get it. This made veterans situations difficult in assimilating to civilian life

Producer Protection, Prior Market Structure and the Effects of Government Regulation
Assignment on Regulatory Economics
1/5/2012 INTRODUCTION
The direct economic regulation of business by independent government commissions has a one
hundred year history on the North American continent. It is generally asserted that the purpose of such
commissions is to protect consumers from exploitation by limiting the economic powers of certain
firms having pervasive effects on the public interest (for example, transportation companies and public
utilities). . However, the findings of the relatively few em pirical studies of the economic effects of
regulation indicate that important differences actually do exist in these effects. The ... Show more

One group should include those industries whose prior market structure was a natural monopoly. This
group would include electric utilities, natural gas pipelines, local gas distribution companies,
telephone companies, etc. The second group should consist of industries having oligopolistic or
competitive market structures prior to the implementation of regulation, for example, airlines, motor
carriers, railroads, and water carriers.
If the producer protection hypothesis is descriptive of the fundamental effects of regulation, one would
expect to find regulation having little or no effect on the first group, whereas the second group would
experience substantial changes following the effective implementation of regulation. NATURAL
MONOPOLY INDUSTRIES
Among other things, effective monopolies are characterized by relatively high price levels, by
extensive price discrimination, and by rates of return on investment exceeding those attainable if the
firm operated in a competitive market structure. Thus, the producer protection hypothesis implies that
following the implementation of regulation over natural monopolies, the price level will be essentially
unchanged and will be above marginal costs, price discrimination will continue to be widely practiced,
and rates of return will remain above those which would exist under competition.
Price level
At least three studies have been made regarding the effects of regulation on electric utility price

Sears Canada Pension Crisis
The Sears Canada situation has put the former and current employees at the risk of not getting their
full pensions and other benefits paid as promised by the company. This problem was raised due to the
underfunding of the pension plan by the company. this deficit has but over 16,000 former and current
Sears Canada employees at risk of not getting their full pensions. (MacDonald, 2017) This is due to
the pensioner not having any priority s when a company goes through their bankruptcy process. In
order to help those who are affected by this, the government should take actions towards protecting
and preserving the pension of the employees. The help of the government would help reduce other
problems that will arise due to employees not getting their full pension. Such problems that would
arise are; the burden on taxpayers to pay for the loss of the employees and how it is unfair and
unethical for the employees to suffer from the company s faults. The Sears Canada bankruptcy has
been put many former and current employees at the risk of not getting all of their pensions and

1984 By George Orwell
Unlike other novels that portray a perfect society, Orwell s 1984 does the exact opposite. Throughout
the novel, we see George Orwell s views and concerns about a controlled society. Orwell is constantly
criticizing nationalism, capitalism, political dishonesty, and of course, totalitarianism in his writing.
Many believe that Orwell wrote 1984 to warn and convince leaders to avoid any paths that might lead
to an overpowering society. Orwell was trying to warn us about totalitarian power and how it could
affect society in a negative way. Many of Orwells past experiences are reflected in his books such as
1984. For example, Orwell was a democratic socialist who joined the Independent Labour Party up
until World War II came about. At the time

Some of the other individual sections of the departmental network use different standards such as

inexpensively and easily connect local area network segments (Microsoft, 2010). The reason a
network bridge is inexpensive is that there is no configuration required and you don t have to purchase
additional hardware such as routers and other bridges. The hospital s administrative network consists
of Apple iMACS and thin computers that use 1000Base T with CAT 6 cables. All work stations

The Waste Of Waste Management Centres
As our global population continues on a steady rise so does our product consumption, which naturally
leads to an increase in waste production. The vast amount of waste that we are manufacturing
ultimately lands up in our oceans, lakes, rivers, alley ways, backyards and parks creating what are
known as garbage towns. This would introduce health risks to individuals and the community as a
whole. These risks could also include exposure to dangerous chemicals that poses detrimental effects
on the environment. To avoid this from happening governments have created landfills. Landfills are a
place to dispose of refuse and other waste material by burying it and covering it over with soil,
especially as a method of filling in or extending usable land. (Webster Dictionary). In an even more
extravagant attempt to keep waste material out of the streets and non biodegradable products out of
the ground and keeping organic material together governments have added recycling and composting
plants to landfills to make waste management centres. In waste management centres they may separate
the material there and transport it to its respective plant, or have the respective plants built in. We
researched the effects and consequences of constructing and operating a landfill in the north west area,
there are various benefits and drawbacks of said waste management centre. After weighing the pros
and cons based on our specific region, we decided to accept the idea of a landfill operating in our

Being a legend is not easy. That ever experienced by Jackie Robinson, the first black baseball player

This movie tells the story of discrimination suffered by Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) as the
first black player in the American professional league.

who managed to eliminate racism. But in the United States alone it racism that is still rampant. Indeed,

Several efforts have been made by Brian Helgeland always director and screenwriter to create a
character Jackie is not a person who s too perfect. Many ways, among others by writing the character
of Jackie as a figure of temperament or show some failures Jackie in a game. But again these things
are still too safe and not to make me feel the character of Jackie as someone who was more humane. I
did not know the figure of Jackie Robinson before watching this movie, but I am sure that all the
figures and inspiration powerful as any he must have a dark side that makes it not perfect. From the
plot also nothing special here. Everything flows in the direction that is predictable. But with all the
standard stuff and the option to play on the safe path is fortunately not make 42 into a boring
spectacle. At least Helgeland and the actors were able to make this film remains entertaining to watch.
Some dramatic moments shown although often feels cliche but I admit still able to give an injection of
emotion that makes the film more alive. Some conflicts are present talked about the racism that is so
thick and my mission for this movie to describe how bad racism is quite successful. I myself made so
annoyed at people who act in a racist on Jackie in this film and be able to strike a few moments though
again feels cliche. Beyond the cliché, but entertaining story, 42 also benefited from the success of the

Hockey Case Study
The final option for Trevor Linden to present to the NHLPA is to fully reject the league s offer, which
would lead to a lockout for the 2004 2005 season, and possibly dissolve the National Hockey League.
An advantage of this option is that a number of top players would be able to seek employment
elsewhere, and could sign lucrative contracts in the Russian Superleague (now KHL), the SHL in
Sweden, the NL in Switzerland, or leagues in Finland or the Czech Republic. There are a number of
other leagues that players could try to join that pay lower salaries, such as the AHL and ECHL in
North America, and most players would likely pursue one of these options to keep playing hockey
during the lockout. This could increase the global recognition ... Show more content on

Even players who do find places to play will be much less satisfied because of the lesser competition.
Simply put, going from playing in the best league in the world to a lesser league or not playing at all
would be very disappointing for players because of the less exciting games and reduction or
elimination of a primary source of income. Another disadvantage is that fans would be greatly
disappointed with the loss of an entire hockey season. According to a poll done by nhlcbanews.com,
70% of Americans and 94% of Canadians side with the need for cost certainty, while only 30% of
Americans and 6% of Canadians agree with the NHLPA that the economic system does not need to be
fixed. This implies that most fans believe that the NHLPA is being too greedy in their negotiations,
and therefore a lockout would greatly reduce the reputation of the players. Interestingly, some players
are willing to accept a salary cap and revenue tied salary, as long as it means they can get on the ice,
but the NHLPA claims that it is as united as ever in taking a stance against salary caps. A final
disadvantage is that a lockout would result in a loss of an opportunity for revenue, and it would kill

ST s bright finish served as an exclamation point on a model with more attitude between the wheels
than some far more expensive sports cars.
If you aren t familiar with ST, then allow me to rip a chapter from the book of all things speed. ST is a
line of sporty vehicles from Ford Performance, representing the racing arm of the Ford Motor
Company. The ST line is currently composed of the Ford Fiesta ST and the Ford Focus ST. Moreover,
a near ST like Fusion Sport sedan is due for release in 2017.
Both ST models are new to Ford fans in the US, but the line has long been familiar to European fans.
North American car buyers now have access to these models because of the company s One Ford

Previously, some of Europe s best vehicles were held back from the US. Beginning in 2008 that all

The Case Of The Australian Legal System
Due to negative aspects that were presented in cases such as the Corey Davis case, the effectiveness of
the Australian Legal System in accomplishing justice began to be viewed to demonstrate flaws in
certain occasions by the Australian public. The Australian legal system aims to achieve equality and
fairness towards the citizens of Australia to avoid anarchy within the nation. This is accomplished by
set rules and laws that are created by the government. However, if these rules and laws are to be
broken by an individual or a group of people living within the borders of the country, they may face
legal consequences that include getting a fine, imprisonment, a life sentence or in some occurrences, a
combination of these forms of punishment. In the Corey Davis case, an eleven year old boy that is
identified as W is sent to trial for committing an offence towards a six year old boy. An outline of the
events in the Corey Davis case will be further explored as well as the involvement of the police, the
conduct of the court system throughout the investigation of the case and its influence in achieving
justice, and a summary of the trial. Furthermore, the debate about the current age limit for doli incapax
and whether it is appropriate for modern society will be discussed as the Corey Davis case raised
arguments about this topic. The Australian legal system aims to achieve justice, however certain
instances such as the Corey Davis case have proved that it may occasionally

The Power Of Love In A Midsummer s Night Dream
Love is a powerful emotion, capable of turning the most rational people into crazed, irrational lovers.
In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Shakespeare centralizes his comedy around the theme of human love
as a powerful, transformative force. Through the use of a magical love potion, the characters within
the play are blinded by fierce passion and their sight is narrowed to see only what the lover selectively
chooses to see. As a result of the power of love, the sensible become irrational and emotions that stem
from love, such as jealousy and desperation, give birth to hysterical chaos. In A Midsummer s Night
Dream, Shakespeare presents love as an uncontrollable, indiscriminate, and transformative force that
prevents those infected with its power

Confucianism
What is the ideal person supposed to be or do? In any religious system, this is always the paramount
question. Confucianism itself is not a religion, per se, but a set of first principles of social organization
and behavior, so there are no larger otherworldly implications to the Confucian plan for humanity. For
Confucius, life consists of ethical principles: the central problem with humanity is anything which
exacerbates human tendencies towards social disharmony. The Confucian system is one in which
social order is paramount: Douglas Soccio defines Confucius not as a religious figure or philosopher
per se, but as the social sage (Soccio 33). Confucius offers no prescriptions about deities or the
afterlife, but instead gives rules of conduct in essence a manual of etiquette, which manages to raise
etiquette to the level of a Kantian moral imperative which results in the larger set of ethical precepts
that comprise the teachings of Confucius. For Confucius, the goal for every human being is to live in
greatest harmony within society, which means adhering to specifically defined social roles. In some
sense, Confucianism is not a religion but it places its most reverent attitudes towards the idea of
education Confucius himself is presented as no more than a teacher (of right behavior, of rules of
conduct, more than a teacher of moral inquiry) and good education is central to the Confucian concept
of good behavior and for its fairly circumscribed sense of any the larger

Luxembourg, France, And Belgium
Nestled between Germany, France, and Belgium, Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in the
world. In fact, it is the 20th smallest, having only about 500,000 inhabitants (Luxembourg, 2005). The
country is also a member of the European Union, also referred to as the EU. Luxembourgish, or
LĂ«tzebuergesch, is a German dialect that is spoken by the people of Luxembourg. Because of their
geographic location French, German, and Dutch are often spoken (Luxembourg, 2005). In 2013,
Luxembourg became the first country in the world to have both an openly gay Prime Minister and

liberties of the gay and lesbian community. In the past decade or so, Luxembourg has made great
strides and has granted many new rights to the gay and lesbian citizens.
While the French jurisdiction still controlled Luxembourg during the 18th century, homosexual acts
were decriminalized. This occurred in 1794 (Yee 2010), and this act can be seen as the first step
towards increasing gay and lesbian rights in Luxembourg. More recently, in 2004, Luxembourg started
to legally recognize same sex partnerships, commonly referred to as civil unions in the United States.
The Partenariat, or partnership, often referred to as PACS, gave homosexual couples many new rights,
which weren t recognized prior to the act. The rights included, as found in the law include, tax benefits
that heterosexual couples had, social security benefits, the partners would also be held liable for each

not recognize partnerships that were granted by other countries under their law. If necessary,

The Foreign Policy Strengths For The Privatized Combat Role
Analysis
Strengths
The foreign policy strengths for the privatized combat role includes policy flexibility, force agility, and
reduced political barriers. Policy flexibility is defined as the variety of options available and the scope
in which they can be applied. The resulting collection of choices which may be mapped and compared
to other choices can be referred to as the option space. In the case of the military, some of the policy
options available can include mission types and the variety of roles from non combat to combat. Force
agility is defined as an armed force s scalability, physical mobility, and adaptability. Force agility is
mostly understood as a tactical level capability but the potential to provide agile capabilities can ...

Within Canada, the military attempts to cover a wide range of capabilities and maximize their utility.
Instead, Canada could contract specialized companies as the need arises. For example, should Canada
decided to launch a peacekeeping mission the government could contract a private policing
corporation who specializes in addressing crime. Furthermore, in theory a free market economy would
force competition between security companies which would encourage the most efficient and effective
service to provide the services required by Canada. Force agility is improved with private companies
in mobility, scalability, and adaptability. Mobility is a matter of how forces can be transported and
equipment is deployed. For private military companies, the ability to contract logistical services to
private airlines or shipping companies can far exceed the capabilities of the Canadian military without
the cost of maintenance or the challenges of procurement policies. The ability to scale up and
demobilize forces quickly is important from a policy perspective and was demonstrated by private
military companies in the Iraq conflict. Companies are able to scale up forces more quickly than a
military force because a traditional military has to train and plan for surges before hand. Military
companies, assuming they are not at maximum manpower already, can add or remove troops from a

Tupac The Man Who Grew From Concrete Analysis
The Man Who Grew From Concrete Tupac was the man who grew from concrete, despite and

select few poems that intrigued me. My favorite being What of Fame? Others like: Life through my
eyes, Sometimes I cry, If I Fail, No win dream poem, also stood out to me. All of these poems have a
common theme of Me vs. the World. Depression is a big motive for Shakur in his writing, given that
his heart is filled with sorrow. He even wrote a song about his heart turning cold. Shakur consistantly
to use metaphors in his writing, along with masculine rhymes. Being a song artist, it s only natural.
Metaphors allow him a creative outlet for his feelings while making his ideas easier for the reader to

He often switches between text and the proper spelling as this can be seen in the last passage. He uses
a lot of masculine rhymes and a very steady rhythm, almost as if he is rapping. Given that a lot of his

pace of a beat for me personally, because I viewed all his poems as songs. He s a very simple writer,
not much of a lyricist, and his rhymes are mostly male rhymes. His grammar utilizes text language,
and can be found in nearly every poem in his book. Tupac uses text language to keep it simple, and to
help with the flow his ideas. He has an incredible sense of rhyme and rhythm and meter. His overall
style is one that countless people fall in love with and one that all can understand. The reason Tupac is
as big as he is, is because there s truth to his writing and a message for every type of person. This

Analysis Of The Poem 1984 By Ayn Rand
The word We is as lime poured over men, which sets and hardens to stone, and crushes all beneath it,
and that which is white and that which is black are lost equally in the grey of it (Rand 37). This
philosophical quote comes from Anthem by Ayn Rand. She uses perfectly sculpted language to drive
the actions in this story. Similar to George Orwell s novel 1984, Rand uses her language and literary
devices to depict a dystopian society. Her techniques create a philosophical novel intended to question
ourselves and our society today. Rand uses the literary device, allegory to create the society described,
which moves the direction of the story to a climactic dénouement, and uses the theme of individuality
to express a message to her readers.
The most significant literary device Rand uses is an allegory. She uses the character s lifestyle to
construct a dystopian society. Coincidentally, this society resembles collectivism. Here, the character s
work for each other, towards a greater good. The mirroring of collectivism is revealed in the first
paragraph of Anthem,
We must never speak of the times before the Great Rebirth, else we are sentenced to three years in the
Palace of Corrective Detention. It is only the Old Ones who whisper about it in the evenings, in the
Home of the Useless. They whisper many strange things, of the towers which rose to the sky, in those
Unmentionable Times, and of the wagons which moved without horses, and of the lights which burned

Jane Austen
In the novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen asserts that a happy marriage comes not from the
compliance with social conventions, but rather from the compatibility between the personalities of two
individuals. The interclass marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, and the expected intraclass marriage of
Lady Catherine s daughter stand as a foil to the true happiness in the interclass marriage of Elizabeth
and Mr. Darcy. A lack of affection, esteem and congruity between the Bennet s, and likewise between
Miss de Bourgh and Mr. Darcy, results in an unsuccessful marriage and a potentially unsuccessful
marriage, respectively, while the paradigm of these qualities between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy
generate a successful relationship. By illustrating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Elizabeth first sees Miss de Bourgh, she describes her as pale and sickly [and] her features,
though not plain, were insignificant; and she spoke very little (159). This description wholly lacks the
liveliness of Elizabeth s eyes and mind with which Mr. Darcy falls in love. Mr. Darcy s impartiality
toward Miss de Bourgh is confirmed by Elizabeth s observations of Mr. Darcy in Lady Catherine s
house. After listening to Lady Catherine flattering her daughter in front of Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth looked
at Darcy to see how cordially he assented to his cousin s praise; but neither at that moment nor at any
other could she discern any symptom of love (172). Although Austen mentions nothing concerning
Miss de Bourgh s feelings, the lack of emotional attachment from at least Mr. Darcy negates the
potential of a happy marriage. Nevertheless, Lady Catherine argues with Elizabeth that the marriage of
Mr. Darcy and her daughter is meant to be due to their complementary wealth and status. Austen
demonstrates her disagreement with this sort of aristocratic thought through Elizabeth s rebuttal, that if
Mr. Darcy wishes to marry Miss de Bourgh he will, and If Mr. Darcy is neither by honour nor
inclination confined to his cousin, why is not he to make another choice? (336). Lady Catherine
furthers her argument by insulting Elizabeth in terms of her social standing,

The set was a crucial factor in the production, which was displayed in multiple instances throughout

detail and effort put into creating it. Even more, this item in a sense represents the different character
portrayals of May as she is going to Hollywood and departing from it. Another set piece that stood out
was the actual revolving glass doors. The craftsmanship of it alone is amazing and this is a creative
method in letting characters enter and leave the scene. Furthermore, the costumes helped in setting the
vibe of the time period. Above all are the flapper costumes worn by two of the actresses, which
created a rustic and energetic environment. The lighting played an important role in tying everything
together. It was dimmed at times and then brightened to place emphasis on the lead actors. In addition,
another element that was central to the production was the sound. I enjoyed the music that was present

I recently attended a collection preview and donor reception in honor of the National Museum of
African American History and Culture s grand opening. I was invigorated by the museum s use of
cultural objects to narrate a people s history. Attending this event only reaffirmed my passion for using
art and material culture to inform new insights. Studying the history of art is a great way to explore the
intersectionalities between art, culture, and identity. At Williams College, I aim to delve further in my
academic pursuits and exploration through the graduate program in Art History.
Past experiences influenced my decision to pursue art history, both academically and professionally.

on the art itself rather than the theory and practice of museum operation. Through attending the Art
History graduate program at Williams, I aim to understand how previous art periods influence recent
works through its cultural or historical references. After reviewing your faculty s areas of
concentration, I am confident that I will receive a comprehensive education, learning to analyze art
and material culture from various perspectives.
Ultimately, I want to work towards extending the definition of art history canon and promote further
understanding of other cultures. Matriculating into the Art History graduate program at Williams will
allow me to assess the intersectionalities that stem from culture, identity, and artistic creation using
contemporary art and non Western art as my initial reference points. The knowledge I obtain, and
contribute, during the program will provide me with a solid base on which I can continue my
academic pursuits at the doctorate level and eventually apply this knowledge in a curatorial or
professorial capacity. I wholeheartedly believe that attending the Williams College Art History
graduate program will equip me with the academic and professional skills I need to succeed and create
a lasting impact in the art history realm.

Disability And Disability
The term bureaucracy means to rule by desks or offices. Bureaucrats implement government policy by
putting laws and decisions made by elected individuals into action. Over time, many different people
have defined the concept of disability in many different ways. This becomes a major issue when the
definition of disability needs to be defined by the government, because of the laws and decisions the
government makes based off of it. Something like the concept of disability being defined in a certain
way affects the policies that the bureaucracies implement, so it is important to look at the history of
disability and the several models one can use to analyze it, as it decided the fate of several people
across the United States. Through historical, medical, and bureaucratic contexts, it can be seen how far
the disabilities movement has come within law, and where it is heading in the future. The beginning of
disability being encoded into law started with the Civil War. This first started with the making of the
Civil War draft, which was brought about when both the North and South needed to recruit men to
fight in the war. The draft was made first by creating a standard of normality, and an able bodied
soldier was the model for this standard. This later led to decisions that had to be made about who was
able bodied and how it was defined. Once the standard was created, men were evaluated compared to
that standard, and were drafted if they fit (Class notes 9/7). This impacted

Giotto Di Bondone Distinctively Visual
To give a background, linear perspective is a mathematical system for creating the illusion of space
and distance on a flat surface. An artist must first imagine the picture surface as an open window
through which to see the painted world when he or she wants to use perspective in his or her paintings.
Straight lines are then drawn on the canvas to represent the horizon and visual rays connecting the
viewer s eye to a point in the distance. One must draw these lines to connect the viewer s eye to a
vanishing point line, just like where the sky meets the ground. Orthogonal lines are then drawn over
the canvas or work space. The point where orthogonal lines meet is called the vanishing point. One
can compare this to train tracks in the distance. [fix this paragraph] [transitions to examples]
Perspective did not start out as perfect and as true to life as we know it today. Pictures used to be very
flat and cartoon like. This changed however when artists began to get really creative and pay attention
to making their pieces more lifelike. One of the artists who started this change was Giotto di Bondone

scientific basis for visual representation in the fifteenth century and he is credited with the formulation
of a linear, central perspective based on mathematical principles. Brunelleschi s studies transformed
art drastically from that point on. Utilizing the observation that parallel lines receding into space seem

How Did Sherman s March To The Sea Cut A Swath Of Destruction
Sherman s march to the sea cut a swath of destruction sixty miles wide and two hundred eighty five

The Right Supply Chain
The first step in devising an effective supply chain is to consider the nature of demand for your
product. For this many aspects are important: Product life cycle, demand predictability, product
variety etc. But any product can be broadly classified into as either a Functional Product or an
Innovative Product based on their demand patterns. Root cause for ineffectiveness of any supply chain
is the mismatch between the type of product and the type of supply chain. Functional Products are
generally staples or those generally bought from the grocery stores or retail outlets. They have stable
demands are price variations do not affect the demand drastically. Such products have long life cycles

Functional Sphere to Innovative sphere without even realising. They start blaming the forecasting

whether the product offered id a functional or innovative, managers need to decide if their supply

option for waste ( Solid Waste Agency ). The purpose of a landfill is to bury trash in a way that it will
be isolated from groundwater, will be kept dry, and will not come into contact with air. Under these
conditions, the excess waste does not decompose very much (Freudenrich). Many objects that are
thrown into the trash, which end up into a landfill, can actually be recycled. 20% of the items in
landfills can be recycled, and another 25% are compostable, and a further 16% are recoverable
(Curiosity Quest). A total of 61% of the landfill can be diverted to better use.
Since most Americans don t know about what objects can be recycled, or just ignore the recycle
labels, the objects end up in a landfill. In the U.S, people produce about 4.6 pounds of trash per person
per day, which equates to 251 million tons of trash per year (Freudenrich). This is slightly less than all
the other countries trash combined (Alabama Environmental Council). Most of this trash is buried in a
landfill, and the rest is recycled, composted, and burned (Freudenrich). 81.8 million tons of trash in
2006 could have been recycled or composted, but were instead sent into a landfill (Freudenrich).
One of the significant products that contribute to the problem are textiles; most specifically shoes.

Analysis On The Digital Age Insurance
1 Abstract
In today s Digital Age Insurance companies generate and gather data each minute, hour and day.
Every individual in these organizations starting at the top from executives, departmental decision
makers, to underwriters, claims adjusters and call center workers hope to learn things from collected
data that can help them make better decisions for the organization, take smarter actions and operate
more efficiently leading to Profitability.
The Biggest challenge the Insurance companies face begins when they begin extracting meaningful
insights from this explosion of data. Determining how to take advantage of all this data to price better,
expand markets and improve underwriting risk and handing claims. Fortunately, the science of
extracting insight from data is constantly evolving. Regardless of how much data you have, one of the
best ways to discern important relationships is through data visualization.
Data visualization, where information is presented in a pictorial or graphical format, is helping
insurance professionals see things that were not obvious to them before. Insurance companies analyze
historical data which includes information from policy administration solutions, underwriting
applications and billing systems to forecast and predict future losses.
2 Introduction:
Underwriting is one of the important processes in insurance operations. The applicant s information,
including various kinds of medical information, must be evaluated before the insurance

Smallpox Viruses Essay
For approximately three thousand years, smallpox has ravaged and plagued the four corners of the
globe. In fact, in the 17 th and 18 th centuries, it was claimed to be the most infectious disease in the
West, with an astounding 90% mortality rate in America. It wasn t until 1796, with English surgeon
Edward Jenner s smallpox vaccination, that the world saw relief from this devastating virus. However,
even with this inoculation in use, the world continued to witness death from both the virus and the
vaccine. In the year 1966, it was estimated that 10 15 million infected citizens world wide had passed
away from smallpox that year alone ( History 12). As a result of these devastating numbers, in the
following year, 1967, the World Health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a highly contagious, deadly and airborne virus, it would be virtually impossible to completely
eradicate smallpox. Peter Jahrling, the scientist that discovered the deadly Ebola Reston virus, once
stated, If you really believe there s a bioterrorist threat out there, then you can t get rid of smallpox. If
smallpox is outlawed, only outlaws will have smallpox ( Preston 4). To date, only Russia and the
United States have clearance to maintain the smallpox virus in two selected laboratories. Enforced by
the W.H.O, this was mandated to ensure that the virus cultures could be heavily monitored and
researched to prevent future outbreaks. Unfortunately, the power that is associated with having access
to a virus as devastating as smallpox is often interwoven with greed. For example, in 1991, British
inspectors discovered that the Russian government had been testing bio nuclear weapons using
smallpox in an unauthorized base ( Preston 6). Since smallpox can be used as a powerful weapon,
there is no way to determine what country may try to obtain it. Additionally, even if a country was
highly suspected of testing the virus for warfare, it would be difficult to prove that the country actually
had virus cultures. During that same inspection in Russia, for instance, the head of the base that was
testing this virus denied any association with the

Paradox And Personification In The Hollow Man
Paradox and personification are two literary devices often used in literature. These literary devices
help poets convey certain meaning through their writing. This essay analyses the poems The Hollow
Men by T.S. Elliot and Death Be Not Proud by John Donne. These two poems were chosen because of
their use of literary devices and the manner in which they were able to communicate a deeper
meaning. The essay analyses the poems by examining their use of paradox and personification as well
how the devices impact the poem.
T.S. Elliot and John Donne use paradox and personification in their poems. A paradox is a statement
that seems to be false but upon further examination proves to be true. Personification is the action
giving a nonhuman object or idea human characteristics. The use of a paradox in the poem The
Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot helps convey the mood of the poem by communicating to the reader a more
profound meaning. The use of literary device in Death Be Not Proud by John Donne also helps
express the mood of the poem. It does so through the use of a literary personification. In poetry,
paradox and personification can be used to convey the mood of a poem.
The poem The Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot uses paradox to convey the mood of the poem. The poem
The Hollow Men is about men who are standing in a field, describing what the afterlife is like. This
state of senselessness that the men are in creates a dull mood. It creates a mood of emotional void.
This mood is conveyed through paradox. In the poem, T.S. Elliot writes shape without form (line 11).
This is used to describe the hollow men and creates a paradox because having a shape means you have
a form, one cannot exist without the other. This is unless, it is thought of from a different point of
view. In art a shape is two dimensional while form is three dimensional. When T.S. Elliot writes shape
without form (line 11) it is not referring to the physical appearance of the men but rather their lack of
depth. It is referring to the men s flat personality. Similarly the line shade without color (line 11) is
used to convey the mood of the poem. This line from the poem creates a paradox because a shade is a
variation of a color, this means that a

  • 4. Essay On The Cuban Missile Crisis 13 Days: How did President Kennedy bring the Cuban missile crisis to a peaceful conclusion? What was the cuban missile crisis? Was it a war or was it a standoff between the United States and Soviet Union? The Cuban Missile Crisis was basically a missile scare. It was an engagement between the United States and the Soviet Union regarding Soviet ballistic missiles that were nuclear armed and deployed in Cuba. The Soviet Union carried the missiles from overseas by ships. This lasted 13 days and consisted of fear, fighting, and most of all, difficult decisions for both the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It was in October of 1962 that a U.S. spy plane discovered that the Soviet Union had nuclear equipped missiles placed in the country of Cuba. This was a serious threat to the United States because Cuba was just 90 miles from our shores and Cuba was a close ally of the Soviet Union. President Kennedy was shocked and started right away to secretly meet with his advisors to discuss this big problem. Producer Protection, Prior Market Structure and the Effects of Government Regulation Assignment on Regulatory Economics 1/5/2012 INTRODUCTION The direct economic regulation of business by independent government commissions has a one hundred year history on the North American continent. It is generally asserted that the purpose of such commissions is to protect consumers from exploitation by limiting the economic powers of certain firms having pervasive effects on the public interest (for example, transportation companies and public utilities). . This group would include electric utilities, natural gas pipelines, local gas distribution companies, telephone companies, etc. The second group should consist of industries having oligopolistic or competitive market structures prior to the implementation of regulation, for example, airlines, motor carriers, railroads, and water carriers. If the producer protection hypothesis is descriptive of the fundamental effects of regulation, one would expect to find regulation having little or no effect on the first group, whereas the second group would experience substantial changes following the effective implementation of regulation. NATURAL MONOPOLY INDUSTRIES Among other things, effective monopolies are characterized by relatively high price levels, by extensive price discrimination, and by rates of return on investment exceeding those attainable if the firm operated in a competitive market structure. Thus, the producer protection hypothesis implies that following the implementation of regulation over natural monopolies, the price level will be essentially unchanged and will be above marginal costs, price discrimination will continue to be widely practiced, and rates of return will remain above those which would exist under competition. • 12. The Waste Of Waste Management Centres As our global population continues on a steady rise so does our product consumption, which naturally leads to an increase in waste production. The vast amount of waste that we are manufacturing ultimately lands up in our oceans, lakes, rivers, alley ways, backyards and parks creating what are known as garbage towns. This would introduce health risks to individuals and the community as a whole. These risks could also include exposure to dangerous chemicals that poses detrimental effects on the environment. To avoid this from happening governments have created landfills. Landfills are a place to dispose of refuse and other waste material by burying it and covering it over with soil, especially as a method of filling in or extending usable land. (Webster Dictionary). In an even more extravagant attempt to keep waste material out of the streets and non biodegradable products out of the ground and keeping organic material together governments have added recycling and composting plants to landfills to make waste management centres. In waste management centres they may separate the material there and transport it to its respective plant, or have the respective plants built in. Hockey Case Study The final option for Trevor Linden to present to the NHLPA is to fully reject the league s offer, which would lead to a lockout for the 2004 2005 season, and possibly dissolve the National Hockey League. An advantage of this option is that a number of top players would be able to seek employment elsewhere, and could sign lucrative contracts in the Russian Superleague (now KHL), the SHL in Sweden, the NL in Switzerland, or leagues in Finland or the Czech Republic. Simply put, going from playing in the best league in the world to a lesser league or not playing at all would be very disappointing for players because of the less exciting games and reduction or elimination of a primary source of income. Another disadvantage is that fans would be greatly disappointed with the loss of an entire hockey season. • 22. The Case Of The Australian Legal System Due to negative aspects that were presented in cases such as the Corey Davis case, the effectiveness of the Australian Legal System in accomplishing justice began to be viewed to demonstrate flaws in certain occasions by the Australian public. The Australian legal system aims to achieve equality and fairness towards the citizens of Australia to avoid anarchy within the nation. This is accomplished by set rules and laws that are created by the government. However, if these rules and laws are to be broken by an individual or a group of people living within the borders of the country, they may face legal consequences that include getting a fine, imprisonment, a life sentence or in some occurrences, a combination of these forms of punishment. In the Corey Davis case, an eleven year old boy that is identified as W is sent to trial for committing an offence towards a six year old boy. An outline of the events in the Corey Davis case will be further explored as well as the involvement of the police, the conduct of the court system throughout the investigation of the case and its influence in achieving justice, and a summary of the trial. Furthermore, the debate about the current age limit for doli incapax and whether it is appropriate for modern society will be discussed as the Corey Davis case raised arguments about this topic. In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Shakespeare centralizes his comedy around the theme of human love as a powerful, transformative force. Through the use of a magical love potion, the characters within the play are blinded by fierce passion and their sight is narrowed to see only what the lover selectively chooses to see. As a result of the power of love, the sensible become irrational and emotions that stem from love, such as jealousy and desperation, give birth to hysterical chaos. • 24. Confucianism What is the ideal person supposed to be or do? In any religious system, this is always the paramount question. Confucianism itself is not a religion, per se, but a set of first principles of social organization and behavior, so there are no larger otherworldly implications to the Confucian plan for humanity. For Confucius, life consists of ethical principles: the central problem with humanity is anything which exacerbates human tendencies towards social disharmony. The Confucian system is one in which social order is paramount: Douglas Soccio defines Confucius not as a religious figure or philosopher per se, but as the social sage (Soccio 33). Confucius offers no prescriptions about deities or the afterlife, but instead gives rules of conduct in essence a manual of etiquette, which manages to raise etiquette to the level of a Kantian moral imperative which results in the larger set of ethical precepts that comprise the teachings of Confucius. For Confucius, the goal for every human being is to live in greatest harmony within society, which means adhering to specifically defined social roles. In some sense, Confucianism is not a religion but it places its most reverent attitudes towards the idea of education Confucius himself is presented as no more than a teacher (of right behavior, of rules of conduct, more than a teacher of moral inquiry) and good education is central to the Confucian concept of good behavior and for its fairly circumscribed sense of any the larger ... Within Canada, the military attempts to cover a wide range of capabilities and maximize their utility. Instead, Canada could contract specialized companies as the need arises. For example, should Canada decided to launch a peacekeeping mission the government could contract a private policing corporation who specializes in addressing crime. Furthermore, in theory a free market economy would force competition between security companies which would encourage the most efficient and effective service to provide the services required by Canada. Force agility is improved with private companies in mobility, scalability, and adaptability. Mobility is a matter of how forces can be transported and equipment is deployed. For private military companies, the ability to contract logistical services to private airlines or shipping companies can far exceed the capabilities of the Canadian military without the cost of maintenance or the challenges of procurement policies. The ability to scale up and demobilize forces quickly is important from a policy perspective and was demonstrated by private military companies in the Iraq conflict. Analysis Of The Poem 1984 By Ayn Rand The word We is as lime poured over men, which sets and hardens to stone, and crushes all beneath it, and that which is white and that which is black are lost equally in the grey of it (Rand 37). This philosophical quote comes from Anthem by Ayn Rand. She uses perfectly sculpted language to drive the actions in this story. Similar to George Orwell s novel 1984, Rand uses her language and literary devices to depict a dystopian society. Her techniques create a philosophical novel intended to question ourselves and our society today. Rand uses the literary device, allegory to create the society described, which moves the direction of the story to a climactic dĂ©nouement, and uses the theme of individuality to express a message to her readers. The most significant literary device Rand uses is an allegory. She uses the character s lifestyle to construct a dystopian society. Coincidentally, this society resembles collectivism. Here, the character s work for each other, towards a greater good. The mirroring of collectivism is revealed in the first paragraph of Anthem, We must never speak of the times before the Great Rebirth, else we are sentenced to three years in the Palace of Corrective Detention. Jane Austen In the novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen asserts that a happy marriage comes not from the compliance with social conventions, but rather from the compatibility between the personalities of two individuals. The interclass marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, and the expected intraclass marriage of Lady Catherine s daughter stand as a foil to the true happiness in the interclass marriage of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. A lack of affection, esteem and congruity between the Bennet s, and likewise between Miss de Bourgh and Mr. Darcy, results in an unsuccessful marriage and a potentially unsuccessful marriage, respectively, while the paradigm of these qualities between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy generate a successful relationship. When Elizabeth first sees Miss de Bourgh, she describes her as pale and sickly [and] her features, though not plain, were insignificant; and she spoke very little (159). This description wholly lacks the liveliness of Elizabeth s eyes and mind with which Mr. Darcy falls in love. Mr. Darcy s impartiality toward Miss de Bourgh is confirmed by Elizabeth s observations of Mr. Darcy in Lady Catherine s house. After listening to Lady Catherine flattering her daughter in front of Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth looked at Darcy to see how cordially he assented to his cousin s praise; but neither at that moment nor at any other could she discern any symptom of love (172). Although Austen mentions nothing concerning Miss de Bourgh s feelings, the lack of emotional attachment from at least Mr. Darcy negates the potential of a happy marriage. Nevertheless, Lady Catherine argues with Elizabeth that the marriage of Mr. Darcy and her daughter is meant to be due to their complementary wealth and status. Austen demonstrates her disagreement with this sort of aristocratic thought through Elizabeth s rebuttal, that if Mr. Darcy wishes to marry Miss de Bourgh he will, and If Mr. Darcy is neither by honour nor inclination confined to his cousin, why is not he to make another choice? Bureaucrats implement government policy by putting laws and decisions made by elected individuals into action. Over time, many different people have defined the concept of disability in many different ways. This becomes a major issue when the definition of disability needs to be defined by the government, because of the laws and decisions the government makes based off of it. Something like the concept of disability being defined in a certain way affects the policies that the bureaucracies implement, so it is important to look at the history of disability and the several models one can use to analyze it, as it decided the fate of several people across the United States. Through historical, medical, and bureaucratic contexts, it can be seen how far the disabilities movement has come within law, and where it is heading in the future. The beginning of disability being encoded into law started with the Civil War. This first started with the making of the Civil War draft, which was brought about when both the North and South needed to recruit men to fight in the war. The draft was made first by creating a standard of normality, and an able bodied soldier was the model for this standard. This later led to decisions that had to be made about who was able bodied and how it was defined. Once the standard was created, men were evaluated compared to that standard, and were drafted if they fit (Class notes 9/7). This impacted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An artist must first imagine the picture surface as an open window through which to see the painted world when he or she wants to use perspective in his or her paintings. Straight lines are then drawn on the canvas to represent the horizon and visual rays connecting the viewer s eye to a point in the distance. One must draw these lines to connect the viewer s eye to a vanishing point line, just like where the sky meets the ground. Orthogonal lines are then drawn over the canvas or work space. • 42. It Goes Into A Landfill Most people don t think about where their trash goes after the garbage trucks empty the trash bins. It goes into a landfill, which is a carefully engineered and managed structure and acts as a final disposal option for waste ( Solid Waste Agency ). The purpose of a landfill is to bury trash in a way that it will be isolated from groundwater, will be kept dry, and will not come into contact with air. Under these conditions, the excess waste does not decompose very much (Freudenrich). Many objects that are thrown into the trash, which end up into a landfill, can actually be recycled. 20% of the items in landfills can be recycled, and another 25% are compostable, and a further 16% are recoverable (Curiosity Quest). A total of 61% of the landfill can be diverted to better use. Since most Americans don t know about what objects can be recycled, or just ignore the recycle labels, the objects end up in a landfill. In the U.S, people produce about 4.6 pounds of trash per person per day, which equates to 251 million tons of trash per year (Freudenrich). This is slightly less than all the other countries trash combined (Alabama Environmental Council). Most of this trash is buried in a landfill, and the rest is recycled, composted, and burned (Freudenrich). 81.8 million tons of trash in 2006 could have been recycled or composted, but were instead sent into a landfill (Freudenrich). One of the significant products that contribute to the problem are textiles; most specifically shoes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Analysis On The Digital Age Insurance 1 Abstract In today s Digital Age Insurance companies generate and gather data each minute, hour and day. Every individual in these organizations starting at the top from executives, departmental decision makers, to underwriters, claims adjusters and call center workers hope to learn things from collected data that can help them make better decisions for the organization, take smarter actions and operate more efficiently leading to Profitability. The Biggest challenge the Insurance companies face begins when they begin extracting meaningful insights from this explosion of data. Determining how to take advantage of all this data to price better, expand markets and improve underwriting risk and handing claims. Fortunately, the science of extracting insight from data is constantly evolving. Regardless of how much data you have, one of the best ways to discern important relationships is through data visualization. Data visualization, where information is presented in a pictorial or graphical format, is helping insurance professionals see things that were not obvious to them before. Insurance companies analyze historical data which includes information from policy administration solutions, underwriting applications and billing systems to forecast and predict future losses. 2 Introduction: Underwriting is one of the important processes in insurance operations. The applicant s information, including various kinds of medical information, must be evaluated before the insurance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Smallpox Viruses Essay For approximately three thousand years, smallpox has ravaged and plagued the four corners of the globe. In fact, in the 17 th and 18 th centuries, it was claimed to be the most infectious disease in the West, with an astounding 90% mortality rate in America. It wasn t until 1796, with English surgeon Edward Jenner s smallpox vaccination, that the world saw relief from this devastating virus. However, even with this inoculation in use, the world continued to witness death from both the virus and the vaccine. In the year 1966, it was estimated that 10 15 million infected citizens world wide had passed away from smallpox that year alone ( History 12). As a result of these devastating numbers, in the following year, 1967, the World Health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being a highly contagious, deadly and airborne virus, it would be virtually impossible to completely eradicate smallpox. Peter Jahrling, the scientist that discovered the deadly Ebola Reston virus, once stated, If you really believe there s a bioterrorist threat out there, then you can t get rid of smallpox. If smallpox is outlawed, only outlaws will have smallpox ( Preston 4). To date, only Russia and the United States have clearance to maintain the smallpox virus in two selected laboratories. Enforced by the W.H.O, this was mandated to ensure that the virus cultures could be heavily monitored and researched to prevent future outbreaks. Unfortunately, the power that is associated with having access to a virus as devastating as smallpox is often interwoven with greed. For example, in 1991, British inspectors discovered that the Russian government had been testing bio nuclear weapons using smallpox in an unauthorized base ( Preston 6). Since smallpox can be used as a powerful weapon, there is no way to determine what country may try to obtain it. Additionally, even if a country was highly suspected of testing the virus for warfare, it would be difficult to prove that the country actually had virus cultures. During that same inspection in Russia, for instance, the head of the base that was testing this virus denied any association with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Paradox And Personification In The Hollow Man Paradox and personification are two literary devices often used in literature. These literary devices help poets convey certain meaning through their writing. This essay analyses the poems The Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot and Death Be Not Proud by John Donne. These two poems were chosen because of their use of literary devices and the manner in which they were able to communicate a deeper meaning. The essay analyses the poems by examining their use of paradox and personification as well how the devices impact the poem. T.S. Elliot and John Donne use paradox and personification in their poems. A paradox is a statement that seems to be false but upon further examination proves to be true. Personification is the action giving a nonhuman object or idea human characteristics. The use of a paradox in the poem The Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot helps convey the mood of the poem by communicating to the reader a more profound meaning. The use of literary device in Death Be Not Proud by John Donne also helps express the mood of the poem. It does so through the use of a literary personification. In poetry, paradox and personification can be used to convey the mood of a poem. The poem The Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot uses paradox to convey the mood of the poem. The poem The Hollow Men is about men who are standing in a field, describing what the afterlife is like. This state of senselessness that the men are in creates a dull mood. It creates a mood of emotional void. This mood is conveyed through paradox. In the poem, T.S. Elliot writes shape without form (line 11). This is used to describe the hollow men and creates a paradox because having a shape means you have a form, one cannot exist without the other. This is unless, it is thought of from a different point of view. In art a shape is two dimensional while form is three dimensional. When T.S. Elliot writes shape without form (line 11) it is not referring to the physical appearance of the men but rather their lack of depth. It is referring to the men s flat personality. Similarly the line shade without color (line 11) is used to convey the mood of the poem. This line from the poem creates a paradox because a shade is a variation of a color, this means that a ...
