American Schools Are Failing For Minority Students
The idea that American schools are failing is not a new one, but it is an idea that is extremely
widespread. There are constant news reports claiming that our schools are worse than ever and
Congress has passed extensive legislation such as No Child Left behind in an attempt to fix the
American educational system. Some people believe that American schools are not completely
failing, but only failing for minority students. Reforms like mandatory busing, vouchers, charter
schools, accountability, and high stakes testing have been proposed to address these social
inequalities. Despite the intentions of these policies, they have not always helped close the social
inequality gap.
Mandatory busing was a reform started in the 1970s to desegregate ... Show more content on

Mandatory busing helped push out students that were more likely to succeed from public schools
leaving behind the students that struggled the most.
A more recent educational reform program is the concept of school choice. Instead of being
forced to attend the school chosen by the local district students would receive vouchers. Students
would be able to take their voucher and apply the funds normally allocated to them at any school.
Parents would be able to decide which school is the best for their children and students that would
normally be trapped in a low performing school could instead attend a different school. A problem
with vouchers is that private schools are allowed to approve if a student can attend. The students
that could benefit the most from moving to a private school could be refused admittance. Another
issue is that higher income families would be more likely to use this program than lower income
families that do not have the same values in education. Finally school vouchers would be taking
money away from the public school system which would reduce the quality of education that the
public schools could provide.
Charter schools are another approaching in allow parents and students to have a choice in where
their children go to school. Charter schools are approved by a

The Birth Of Hip-Hop Rapping During The Harlem Renaissance
The culture made the birth of hip hop possible. Culture was simply the reason we found ourselves
looking for a way to make money as the Harlemites did during the Renaissance period. Immigrants
and businessman strived and hustled to get everything out of nothing. White folks downtown
started the entertainment industry and black folks needed to make money due to no work and
tough living conditions in Harlem. Black folks could always make quick money in the
entertainment business. The whole system producing hip hop was how mechanisms and people
worked together to provide new innovations, whether they know it or not. During the Harlem
Renaissance that the white collar black Harlemites and downtown businessmen started the

DJ Herc was a teenage boy who played for his little sisters s party so that she could raise money for
her dress. The party was a hit and he kept doing it, eventually migrating to the local park for more
space. Herc created a way to extend the beat breaks by stopping the beat and playing it again on
another disc. He discovered the use of playing two discs on turn tables and called it the merry go
round . While Herc was DJ ing he had people with him performing in their own way. He didn t say
much on the mic besides the natural interjections he does with the crowd. He claims he gets that
from his Jamaican roots and the reggae he is used to. Coke La Rock was who he let become the
one who talk fast and talk slick, he could do it, have been doing it and make it sound good off of
the beat as well as any DJ or maybe better. Hip hop rap was claimed to have been created from the
pot of Herc s group. Kool Herc also had boys with him that danced on his breaks, a type of dance
called break dance or b boy dance. He himself, before becoming a DJ, was a tagger or someone who
does graffiti. Taggers usually spray painted walls on the side of buildings and trains but the style
was appealing as underground or urban art and used on flyers for the shows that the DJ s would be
performing at. After Herc and his crew, DJ s, MC s and inspired

She cautions woman not to fritter away their hard on freedom in fighting for equality in dress or
behaviour. They should achieve something solid to prove their merit. A self fulfilled woman will
be an asset to the family. She also finds fault with the society, which observes a double standard
with regard to chastity or morality. While society imposes strong sanctions against even minor
indiscretions on the part of women, it shows considerable leniency towards such aberrations in
men. She also castigates the undue importance given to chastity. The concept of chastity, according
to Sahgal, is much more related to mind than to body. Most of the times the punishment falls
heavy on the aggrieved party that is woman. For her, Sex is not an act of body or for the

There is a need of external financing for the expansion through acquisition. External financing is
a good source of raising money besides internal funds. As per business finance, external
financing can take the shape of two different types of financing, debt or equity. Debt financing
includes bank loans where a company gets financed by issuing debentures which they have to
pay back after a certain period of time. It is called debt financing because the company is in debt
to the bond holders and if they were to go bankrupt, the bond holders would have claim to any
remaining assets. In this case these are secured business loans. Equity financing is when a
company decides to give up ownership in the company to raise funds. This is usually done by
selling company stock to investors. Sometimes this could include seeking out angel investors or
venture capitalists. If you are expecting to get external financing through equity financing make
sure that your business has a product or service that is unique, and that there is a high demand for
your product or service. Most venture capital investors or even angel investors will not look at an
offer unless they see a large growth potential. (2)

The Importance Of Youth Work Activities
During our time studying in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu critical decisions regarding youth
work practice were made. One of these decisions was staying to wait for our boat to the island of
Savo. Many of the group woke up early to be at the port in time to catch our boat to be told that
we would be waiting at least another hour. During the wait the group found a comfortable spot and
relaxed. After the hour ended the group went back to the port in time to catch the boat however, we
ended up waiting another 45 minutes there as the boat needed fuel. Although waiting in humid 30
degree heat is difficult, patience and resilience were shown by all group members and it provided
an important learning opportunity for me which I will take into my youthwork practice. This wait
was not our first nor last in the Pacific Islands and by the end of the trip I understood what island
time was.
By waiting for the boat without complaint the group embraced the relaxed Pacific Islander
culture. This had positive effects throughout the day as once we had left the port, the day ran
smoothly. Any issue with the wait may have caused tension between the group and Paul or David
who were our tour guides for the day. This was not the first time the group had been kept waiting
on the trip, although we had only been there for a few days. The first was on our initial night in
Honiara at the church, in which the service started 45 minutes to an hour late. During this wait I

Lymphatic Filariasis Essay
While this infection does cause harm to the lymphatic system, it still affects the integumentary
system (skin). The skin and lymphatic system go hand in hand when this infection is present in the
individual. This is seen when the skin reacts to the decreased function of the lymphatic system due
to the parasitic worm. History of Lymphatic Filariasis
It is unknown of how or where this infectious disease (lymphatic filariasis) arouse. The first
documentation of lymphatic filariasis was not seen until an exploration that occurred in Goa during
the years 1588 to 1592. Ancient artifacts though have suggested that it could have been present in
early 2000BC. These artifacts were found in a number of areas in the world including Africa and

Since lymphatic filariasis is not commonly found in America, this drug is no longer approved by
the FDA and can only be obtained by a physician if lab tests come back positive for the infection.
When the drug is administered, there is a 1 or 12 day treatment of DEC. This drug does not kill
all adult worms, but can prevent the infection from spreading. Areas that are at high risk for
becoming affected are treated through a process called preventive chemotherapy that uses 2
medicines: albendazole and ivermectin (or in some cases DEC). This medicine combination clears
all microfilariae from the bloodstream and thus can prevent the further of transmission of this
infectious disease. Other treatments aside from taking DEC can be the following: washing the
swollen area with soap and water daily, elevate the affected area in order to improve lymphflow,
and disinfect any wounds that may arise by using antibacterial.
Present day research on Lymphatic Filariasis
Recent research shows the transmission of lymphatic filariasis in high risk populations has
dropped by 43% since the start of GPELF. Before GPELF, 81 countries were deemed as being
common for lymphatic filariasis. From 2000 to 2013, over 5 billion treatments were delivered to a
targeted population of about 984 million individuals in 56 countries, which reduced the
transmission. Other research suggests that 73 countries are still common for this disease and out of
those 73, 17 have proposed strategies to eliminate the transmission of

Essay on The Cold Embrace
The Cold Embrace
The night in the city was going to be especially cold tonight. The sky had been overcast for almost
the entire day, leading to a brief although torrential downpour in the mid afternoon. The streets of
the Bronx outside the third story apartment window that Leonard Jefferson Bennings now looked
out were saturated from the July rainstorm and shone with a glimmer he remembered seeing from
his bedroom window in Massachusetts many years ago. He wondered if he would ever get to see
his childhood home again, and, if he did, would the world of his youth still exist even there? Like
the final beams of sunlight of the day, his hope was growing faint as he looked out on what had

Some day, we ll make those Nazi bastards pay for every inch of land they have taken. She didn t
seem to be talking to Leonard as much as to herself; a brief vocalization of a burning obsession.
Without even acknowledging the presence of any other human being in the room, she walked
out toward the kitchen, probably either to get a drink of water, or to find Eric, the group leader.
Leonard had always wondered why it was that she was so consumed by hatred for the Germans.
Admittedly, few people in the world had any real reason to love the Nazis, especially with them
burning their way across half of New England and in control of or allied with most of rest of the
world. Still, Christina s hatred seemed much more personal than pure patriotism; even those in the
group who had lost family in the invasion didn t show the level of unbridled hate she did.
The only clue she had ever given as to the source of her rage was one she never spoke. On the
extremely rare occasions that she was seen without a full sleeved shirt (an oddity in mid July),
Leonard had seen scars, almost like whip marks across her back. She had never spoken of them, or
even acknowledged their existence, but Leonard had always suspected that perhaps she had been

Comparing Women In The Odyssey And Lysistrata
Since the beginning of time, women have always been looked down upon mentally. During the
time period of The Odyssey and Lysistrata, women were known as less powerful gender. They
have never had much say about what goes on around them. Some women were recognized as a
sex symbol. In The Odyssey, some women were goddesses that just wanted sex and other women
had to stay at home to help raise their kids and do all of the feminine work. Compared to The
Odyssey, in Lysistrata, women denied sex against their men to get what they want. In addition,
they did not have many political rights and a say so on what goes on in their country. In
comparing both of these stories, women show similarities toward each other. In The Odyssey it
shows that all the women are uniquely different by their relationships, desire, and personality
towards men. In addition, all the women help represent the typical role of a woman. Their role is
very critical in the ongoing adventure in this epic poem. Homer represents women as strong roles
and real life characters such as them being strong, tough, and diligent. In the story there are three
major types of women, which are the goddess, the good hostess/wife, and seducers. With each one
of these female characters they are a vital importance and add a different type of factor to the story.

A Student s First Year Of College Essay
The significance behind earning a college degree has changed drastically over the last several
decades. With many professions now requiring a college education, more students are enrolled in
college today than ever before. However, just because more students are enrolled in college does
not mean that more people are on the path to success. Attending collegecan present a plethora of
obstacles for students due to a variety of different reasons. As leaders in higher educationwork to
develop strategies to support students towards their college degree, it is imperative that we
understand and review the various factors that hinder a student s progress.
Literature Review A student s first year of college is arguably one of the most critical years in a
student s collegiate career. When students perform well in their first year of college, they are
significantly more likely to continue towards and earn their degree. Therefore, it is especially
important that higher education officials analyze ways to improve upon a student s initial college
experience. Kuh, Cruce, Shoup, Kinzie, and Gonyea (2008) analyzed the relationships between
student engagement and academic achievement and persistence among first year students. Using
ACT/SAT score reports, the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), and student academic
and financial aid information, researchers sought to determine the contributing factors of first year
GPA. While pre college experiences explain 29 percent of

However, I would have to agree with the first half and say that Joe Paterno s actions were
inadequate. Although Joe Paterno reported what he saw to the Penn State president his
responsibility shouldn t have ended there. Yes, he fulfilled his obligation to report any illegal
actions on campus but when the Penn State President chose not to take legal action Paterno
should have made the moral decision and had gone to the authorities. Legally, he fulfilled his
obligation and therefore no longer holds any responsibility in the eyes of the legal system. In
the eyes of morality though, his responsibility in the matter was not over just because he
reported it to who he was supposed to. This major problem should have been dealt with a long
time ago. It s just a moral obligation that Joe Paterno should have acted upon. So yes I feel he
deserved to be fired. Everyone who knew about it should have reported it to legal authorities. His
great athletic achievements and mutual respect should have pushed towards the issue being
resolved and not swept under the rug for it to come out years after and now resulting in him being
fired. Every action has a reaction and in this case the reaction is due to Paternos lack of action.
The child sex abuse scandal overall is a public relations disaster that the university is likely to be
dealing with for years to come. I definitely don t believe this case was

However, the disease progresses to the point that the children have difficulty rising from the floor
and have an obvious waddling gait. This decline in motor strength remains linear. The symptoms
accentuate themselves between the age of 3 and 8. On average, functional ability declines rapidly
after age 8. By their 9th year some become confined to the wheelchair and by their 12th year most
cannot remain ambulatory (Clinical pediatric neurology, Pg. 182). Other symptoms include large
and rubbery calf muscles and in Duchenne muscular dystrophy an IQ that is significantly lower
than the average, the mean IQ of affected children being of only 85. More importantly the pelvic
weakness that prevented them from rising from the floor can increase to such a degree that
breathing becomes difficult and some patients can die of chocking.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy has a worldwide distribution, with a mean incidence of 1 per
3,500 male births (Clinical Pediatric Neurology, Pg. 180). The children lead a life ridden with
difficulty and physical pain. While kids their age are seen running around playing, these boys
rapidly loose functional use of their limbs. There are also many other problems associated with
muscle wasting. To be sure that the child has the disease a muscle biopsy is usually done to check
for dystrophin levels and confirm that the child does have DMD and not another disorder.

Is Victor A Hero In Frankenstein
What does it mean to be a hero? The definition of a hero from the dictionary is a person noted for
courageous acts or nobility of character. However, this definition does not cover all of what it
means to be a hero is; for instance, a hero needs to also be educated, compassionate, and have other
personal and physical traits. Victor, from the novel Frankenstein, is the heroin the novel. On the
other hand, Victor doesn t meet all of the criteria of being a hero, but he is a better choice than the
other characters in the book. To summarize, being a hero means more than what it is portrayed as
in its definition, and Victor is a hero, but does not have all of the traits that most heroes do. There
are many traits that contribute to being a hero. For instance, a hero needs to be courageous, fearless,

The major difference between sustainability and sustainable design is the ability of a designer to
design a product to be classified as a sustainable design and which also complies with the rules that
guide the environmental, economic and social impact of the product.
If we are to deal effectively with the many contemporary issues of environmental degradation and
social inequality of the resources and benefits of society, we are going to have to rethink our
notions of our materialism culture, especially in the economically developed countries. The power
to change the way we design, manufacture our products, recycle and market it falls on the
designers. Potentially, designers can make a significant contribution to this undertake by
developing possible solutions that challenge precedents and demonstrate alternative possibilities.
But to achieve this according to Stuart walker we will need to change design education and design
practice and develop new understandings of product aesthetics and our notions of what can be
called a good design.
Stuart Walker went on to say, depending on whether we like it or not, within the discipline of
industrial or product design industry, there is a major emphasis on product appearance, in both
professional practice and design education, and it is this engrossment that, in many ways, renders
Products aesthetics hollow and superficial.

to do their jobs and increase work satisfaction. This is undeniably crucial for a business to continue
to be profitable. Some solutions to this problem are incentives, having a good work environment,
and showing appreciation.
When employees perform poorly by not doing their job or not doing their job well, it reflects
negatively on the business. Customers who are not satisfied, may complain and may not return.
Customers can also discourage others from going to that particular establishment by telling their
friends about their terrible experience. The business then loses money from that customer and that
customers friends who now do business with the competition. That business may now have a bad
reputation that started from that one customer s negative experience (Deeb).
By keeping employees pleased and excited at their jobs, they tend to perform better than those
employees who are not please at their job. In an article written by John Waggoner, he wrote, If a
company treats its employees well, the business should prosper.... So in other words, the business
makes money if the employees are pleased. Employees who are given incentive tend to perform
better at their jobs than people who do not receive incentive. Google is an example of a company
that is highly successful and is known for having generous benefits for their employees to par take.

Was The Demise Of The Titanic, The “Unsinkable” Ship,...
Was the demise of the Titanic, the unsinkable ship, actually caused by an iceberg? People have
been told for centuries that the Titanic s catastrophic sinking was caused by the ship hitting an
iceberg. Hundreds of movies have been made and thousands of articles and books have been
written about the infamous sinking. However, the cause of the sinking is very different than most
people have been told all along. The Titanic, which was regarded as unsinkable, was the largest
ship of its time. The ship was owned by the White Star Line, and departed from Southampton
England on April 10 1912, scheduled to bring its 2224 passengers to New York. In the early hours
of April 15 1912, the ship sank, killing 1500 people. Most historians believe that... Show more

One major piece of evidence that supports the fire theory is the images discovered by Molony
that reveal a thirty foot long, diagonal black mark on the hull s front starboard side. These
marks resemble scorch marks caused by a fire at almost exactly where the iceberg struck the ship
(NY Daily News). The pictures Molony references were found at an auction house and were
taken by chief electrical engineer of the Titanic, John Westbeech Kempster. Kempster took these
photographs on April 1 and April 2 at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern
Ireland, just over a week before the ship sailed (CNN). At first, Molony thought the black mark
could just be a reflection, but after careful examination, he found that the mark did not change
places between photographs. One thing that caught Molony s eye about the mark was that it was
facing the sea, not the dock. Molony believes that the ship was strategically positioned so that
the passengers were not able to see the mark, so as not to raise questions (New York Times). Dr.
Guillermo Rein, who specializes in studying coal fires, also examined the photos with Molony. In
a documentary about the coal fire entitled Titanic: The New Evidence , Dr. Rein states that the
marks could definitely be from a coal fire. Since the photographs were taken about ten days before
the ship s departure, the fire must have been going on for at least that

PW treated the Claimant unreasonably and improperly, the Claimant also believes that PW
circulated communications throughout the academic community damaging his reputation, and
preventing a satisfactory resolution.
The Claimant constantly informed senior management in the respondent organisation of the steps
being taken by the Professors to undermine his role to a considerable degree. Since the matter
could not be resolved amicably the claimant pursued the formal grievance procedure. The Claimant
wrote a grievance letter to the Dean of his School, on the 21/01/08. On the 22/01/08 PD wrote to
JD informing him of the Claimant s formal complaint against PW and the others.
On the 22/01/ 08 JD wrote the Claimant informing him that he had received his formal complaint
and as the Head of School he would take on the task of manager on the grievance.
JD commenced investigating the grievance process on the 24/01/08 by meeting and interviewing
all involved in the case.
On 6/03.08 JD sent the Claimant a mail informing the Claimant of his decision not to uphold his
grievance, giving his reasons as well. The Claimant was concerned because some of his grievance
was not answered. This led the Claimant to pursue the next stage of internal grievance process. On

Unit 2.7m Carty Meats Project
The €6.7m Carty Meats project involved a 3,720m2 extension to the existing factory. This
was my first exposure to CFA piled foundations. I led a successful value engineering exercise to
change the basement and exterior retaining walls specifications from RC concrete to precast
concrete, saving valuable time on the construction programme and reducing H S risks during
construction. I co ordinated the logistical planning for the 324m3 basement concrete pours and
643m3 ground floor slab. The external retaining wall was over 5m high, I was involved in the
design by Sisk to tie the wall to the back fill material. Dowel bars were chemically fixed to the wall
and welded to A393 steel mesh which was incorporated into a poured screed on top of the backfill
every metre. I prepared the O M manuals and project handover files.

up the roof to create an open plan office. I also learned about cleanroom construction detailing. A
new freezer was constructed, a specially designed Flow Crete engineered screed was used,
following approval of a technical submittal which I drafted. I was responsible for the implemented

Social Organized Crime Perspective Paper
Social Organized Crime Perspective Paper Many could argue that organized crime takes place in
our society because of the circumstances in which our society has chosen to exist. It could have
been started because of rules, regulations, and laws that we have placed upon ourselves that not
every person agrees with. It could be a problem because several of the people within our society
choose to live differently because they feel they can. Whatever the logic behind the choice
organized crimedoes exist in our society and has for quite some time. In this paper will take a
look at the perspective of social organized crime. We will discuss and explain the term social

This theory attempts to give insight as to how a person can choose to live a life of crime and or
choose to become affiliated with an organized crime group and live a life of crime as a
profession and a career. In conclusion we are a society that has formed and developed into a
social institution. We have rules that are both written and unwritten. Those rules may not be for
everyone and those who refuse to agree to live by them often choose to live a life of crime. Once
they learn a life of crime they may choose to make a career out of their efforts and become more
intelligent as criminals. When this happens they learn to behave more and more like criminals until
their life becomes that surrounded by and involved with organized crime. We as a society refute this
and by refuting it we encourage it. Internet Reference, http://wps.pearsoncustom.com/wps/media

investigation is a book from the United States Department of the Interior. This is relevant because it
provides access to information compiled from the United States government s extensive database of
information regarding conflict in the Black Hills. The other significant source is a firsthand account
from a Cheyennewoman that lived through and experienced the events leading up to the Great Sioux

Eye Of The Beholder Rhetorical Analysis
An awful lot of people come to college with this strange idea that there s no longer segregation in
America s schools, that our schools are basically equal; neither of these things is true. Jonathan
Kozol. The author of the script Eye of the Beholder , Rod Serling, puts his point out there about
how segregation is going on all around us and it will never stop. The audience he is trying to
portray his message to is everyone. He wants to make them aware of the segregation that is still
going on today. Through the use of diction and experience, the author uses pathos, logos, and ethos
to show that segregation still goes on today and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To begin
with, the author uses diction to apply pathos into the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through showing how ridiculed Janet Tyler is, he shows how wrong segregation is. This gives
reasonableness to his argument because he shows that segregation doesn t make sense. Just
because someone has a feature that they can t help and it is different than the majority of the
population doesn t mean they should be shunned, ridiculed or pushed away. By describing how
her features were human looking, which is normal for us, compared to the pig like faces
everyone else had, which is abnormal to us, he drives his point home that beauty is in the eye of
the beholder. The point that Serling was trying to make was that as a human population we look
at each other and usually think nothing of it and if we someone that has different features that
would be undesirable to us, we regard it is ugly and repulsive. That is how the pig faced people
thought of Janet Tyler. In a portion of the script where Leader is talking on the screen, he talks
about how everything must be the same. He says, We know now that there must be a single
purpose, a single norm, a single approach, a single entity of people, a single virtue, a single
morality, a single frame of reference, a single philosophy of government. We must cut out all that
is different like a cancerous filth! (Serling). While we would have seen her as a regular normal

Essay Justice in the Oresteia
Justice in the Oresteia
Justice is often taken for granted in the world we live in today with a judicial system that gives
fair punishment for most crimes. In the Oresteia justice works much differently, where there are
no judges or a court system to resolve disputes, instead there is revenge. Revenge is very messy
because somebody will and has to get hurt first to desire revenge, and it leads to a cycle that
cannot and will not end until everybody is dead. Justice does not and cannot only be revenge
because in the end nobody would be left in that system. Aeschylus Oresteia focuses on revenge as
justice, with the old system that no longer works and that someone must fix, and a new system that

Clytemnestra also gives her justification for murdering her husband, and for ten long years she
thought about how sweet revenge would be when Agamemnon arrived. She also tells her lover,
Aegisthus, Our lives are based on pain (1690). Clytemnestra does not realize how ironic her
statement will be later on when pain controls her. Aegisthus sums up their code of justice when
he says, There are gods in heaven avenging men, / blazing down on all the crimes of earth (1607
1608). He also is foreshadowing that his crime must also be paid for and he will suffer the
consequences of killing Agamemnon and revenge. Aegisthus does not realize it, but Orestes is
seeking revenge upon him and his for the death of Agamemnon. After Orestes kills them, there
is nobody left alive to kill him to avenge their deaths. Clytemnestra invokes the Furies who seek
revenge for anybody who has nobody to seek it for them. The Furies chase Orestes to Apollo s
temple where Orestes asks him for forgiveness, Lord Apollo, you know the rules of justice,
/ know them well. Now learn compassion (88 89). Orestes is the first person who is trying to
change the system and realizes it must be changed for the gods and the Furies to spare his life.

Concentric Or Eccentric Training
This article is about the modifications to muscle strength, velocity, and neural activity as well as
any morphological changes subsequently going through either eccentric or concentric training.
Eccentric training has illustrated to have adequately good effects on muscle hypotrophy,
strengthening the muscle, and has made efficient exercises for injured athletes going through
rehabilitation. But with eccentric training it makes lower concentric but vaster eccentric strength
enhancements compared with concentric training, due to eccentric and concentric training
providing dissimilar stimuli to the muscles. An improvement is necessary in obtaining the
information of the potential differences of morphological and neural adaptations in the early stages
of eccentric and concentric training in order to improve musculoskeletal rehabilitation programs
and there has been a lack of researching the effects of resistance training. The purpose of the

Mark s Great Commission Research Paper
Mark s Great Commission Out of all three Synoptic Gospel s, Mark s Gospel is the shortest as
well as the first Gospel to be written. . Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a
summary of Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends
with a commission similar to the other Gospels. Whereas the other Gospels commissions are
similar, Mark is the only gospelthat addresses the problem of reception and rejection of the gospel.
In Matthew s gospel, Matthew focuses on discipleship, obedience to Jesusteachings, and all nations

American Satire Examples Of Satire
In the Netflix mockumentary series, American Vandal, created by Dan Perrault, the main
character Dylan Maxwell, an 18 year old senior at Hanover High School was held responsible for
performing vandalism on 27 cars causing $100K worth of disfiguring. Everybody believed that
Dylan was in charge of the destruction, despite the fact that he claimed innocence. Instead, they
thought Alex Trimboli, the eyewitness, Ms Shapiro, the Spanish teacher and everyone else that
claimed he was behind the vandalism were speaking the truth. They put Dylan as the prime suspect
based on his past with Ms Shapiro and furthermore because they believed he was capable of
committing such crime. The examples of satirethat the creators used were humour, exaggeration
and irony. A diversion was utilised to make the show enjoyable for young people, yet with the use
of satire, they could influence teenagers to appreciate the show while accepting a genuine message
about how a false allegationagainst anyone could destroy their lives. Many of the people in the
show were biased against rebellious teenagers which was something that Dylan was known for
being. In the mockumentary, Dylan Maxwell was accused based off his image, his past, as well
as his lifestyle. A significant number of the students that were requested to share their opinion said
that what Dylan had to state did not make a difference since he was imbecilic and so forth. The
thesis of the show is never to prejudge a personbased on their past.

Wellcome Merger Case Study
In this individual discussion post, a review of the acquisition of Wellcome by Glaxo is explored
with focus on the complexities of Wellcome s business structure with Promedico. Additional focus
is placed on Ofra Sherman, manager of Wellcome Israel, as to her history with the company, team
interactions, reporting chain, and her reactions to the pending acquisition.
Glaxo Wellcome merger
Through a hostile bid for control, Glaxo announced in 1995 its plan to create the world s largest
pharmaceutical company with the acquisition of Wellcome. Wellcome was known as an antiviral
specialist and had ranked between tenth and twentieth worldwide in revenue (Jick Peiperl, 2011,
p. 348). The Wellcome employees felt secure in their position in this industry that had seen many
takeovers and mergers with assurances from Wellcome Trust, holder of 40 percent of the firm s
shares, that the holding was secure and would not be sold without advance communication.
Communication of the acquisition did not occur however and the bid came as a complete surprise
to the Wellcome employees who felt betrayed by the decision. Details of the acquisition should
have been originally shared by Wellcome Trust as promised, but now should be done by Glaxo as
the CEO, Sir Richard Sykes, assured Wellcome CEO, John Robb, Wellcome managementwould
play a role in the acquisition including job placement. This is an important aspect of any
acquisition as the lack of or ineffective communication strains the employer employee relationship
during such time and reduces personnel morale (Bansal, 2017, p. 421). Of particular importance to
both companies should be discussion and strategy as to how Glaxo would partner Wellcome Israel
with their existing Israel distributor, CTS.
Ofra Sherman s actions
Ms. Sherman was conflicted by the situation before her with the acquisition and had no answers
to the many questions leaving her with a sense of loss of control. As noted by Jick and Peiperl
(2011), most individual s negative reaction to change is related to control and a threat to their
influence, surroundings, pride, and accustomed way of working (p. 337). She had built a successful
team delivering results and was concerned with her team s

ACADEMIC ABSTRACT
The Honest Tea case is about an entrepreneur, Seth Goldman, who built a successful social venture
in the alternative beverage industry. After building Honest Tea to become an industry leader, Seth
faced with the decision of whether to merge with Coca Cola and how to successfully manage the
post merger transition. Information about the alternative beverage industry and
Seth s use of social media is presented to help determine how Honest Tea can continue to grow after

But when we buy ten times that amount, we help create a market that multiplies far beyond our
own purchases. When we sell 32 million bottles and drink pouches with less than half the calories
of mainstream alternatives, as we did in 2007, we help displace 2,400,000,000 empty calories.
That s important, but when we sell ten times that number, we help lead a national shift toward
healthier diets.
Despite its benefits, a merger with Coke may have its share of costs, some unique to social
ventures. Once Honest Tea merges with Coca Cola, will Honest Tea be able to continue fulfilling
its social mission? Most importantly, how can Seth persuade stakeholders, both internal and
external, to support Honest Tea s merger with Coke? Most of Honest Tea s stakeholders including
employees, consumers and independent distributors are socially focused and steadfast in their
support of socially responsible companies. How might they react to the news that Honest Tea has
merged with a national distributor and especially one with so much negative connotation associated
with it? Will they be as committed to the Honest Tea brand?
Goldman has built a solid following to his personal blog site. However, even if Seth is transparent
with customers through social media about the challenges Honest Tea faces will it be

Health Economics And Healthcare
The Health Economics and Financing textbook provides me a lot of knowledge of how health
and healthcare play important roles in economy. Before reading the textbook, I wasn t really
aware that health could be a key factor that drive economic growth. However, after reading this
textbook, I have learned that healthcare is completely different than any other goods since it is a
necessity, and people tend to pay for healthcare services no matter how much the cost as long as
they can afford. Everything in the textbook is important, but for me, the biggest take away point
from the textbook is the importance of healthcare.
As an necessity, healthcare services has been one of the most important components in our lives.

Before reading this chapter, I did know that geographic maldistribution of physicians potentially
led to geographic disparities in health. But after I read the text, I have obtained an in depth
understanding of how to adjust physician supply by applying some policies, such as balancing
income. On the other hand, I have learned that the increase enrollment of medical school has
changed physician supply over the past decades. While more and more people go to medical
school, there are more and more medical specialties in the future. In general, I feel like there will
be adequate physician supply, but it may not be distributed evenly to each place. Therefore, I
believe that some appropriate interventions and policies should be considered for balancing the
supply. One of the reasons why I think physician supply is an important concept is that it is
strongly associated with one s

A Comparison Of Norse And Greek Mythology
The Norse and Greek myth of creation are different but share similar beginnings. Starting with
Norse myth, there was no world or any living creature, but an emptiness that were called

freezing rivers of Niflheim thanks to the fiery Muspell from the south. Soon after cow emerged

Atp Adenosine Triphosphate Research Paper
ATP Adenosine Triphosphate: is a complex chemical compound, which is formed with the energy
that is released from food and stored in all cells, but particularly muscles. Only from the energy
released by the breakdown of this compound can the cells perform work. The ATP PC System is
an anaerobic process which means that fast bursts of energy for short, powerful bursts are produced
and there is no oxygen involved in this process. www.ptdirect.com/anatomy and physiology/energy
systems/the atp p system The fuel source for this energy system is Creatine phosphate. A muscle
cell has some amount of ATP within it that it can use immediately, but not very much. To replenish
the ATP levels quickly, muscle cells contain a high energy phosphate compound called creatine
phosphate. The phosphate group is removed from creatine phosphate by an enzyme called creatine
kinase, and is transferred to ADP to form ATP. The cell turns ATP into ADP, and the phosphagen
rapidly turns the ADP back into ATP. As the muscle continues to work, the creatine phosphate levels
begin to decrease. All three energy systems are active at any given time whilst doing any activity

Social And Psychological Needs For Clean Drinking Water
Humans are complex beings because unlike animals, we need more than just food and water to
survive. Most living creatures depend on food and water to meet their fundamental needs for
survival. Likewise, humans also require these basic needs, but we also have large egos that
need to be satisfied. As privileged members of a well developed society, we do not see how
fortunate we are to have easy access to unlimited amounts of fresh clean water. All of our basic
needs are easily met, so the focus for most of us is to fulfil our social and psychological needs.
Can you imagine the women and children lined up at the verge of dehydration, burning in the hot
African sun for clean drinking water? Did you feel pity for the helpless population, desperately in
need of an essential? Would you feel that same pity for the helpless crowds in first world
countries trying to be socially accepted? Whatever the answer may be, we have become
paralyzed, paralyzed by the desire to be wanted. In this way, we become very self centred because,
while the literal thirst for people in developing nations is a major issue of concern, the thirst for
social acceptancein our westernized world seems to be the primary focus of our society. Therefore,
the sense of belonging is now becoming more destructive than dehydration.
To begin with, one of the most vital and influential time of one s life is during their school years
as it is the portal to finding one s identity. My first few days of grade

St. Lucy s Home For Girls Raised By Wolf Summary
St. Lucy s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves is a collection of short stories. The story that is in
our book The Norton Introduction to Literature is the title story of the collection of short stories.
In the title story a pack of girls that were raised by wolves are being brought to St. Lucy s Home
for Girls Raised by Wolves were a group of nuns awaits them. The nuns want to reeducate the pack
of wild girls to act like civilized girls. They have a five stage procedure that is supposed to follow
the process of the girls being reeducated. But there is one girl, Mirabella, who just doesn t wants to

or scolded by all of the other girls. Towards... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They all were trying to do small talk with each other but it seemed awkward. When the nuns
called out that it is time for the dance that they were learning, Claudette tried to scurry away and
hide in the corner that Mirabella was in because she did not wanted to be in the spot light. Kyle,
one of the brothers, ended up pushing her into the spotlight. Standing in the spotlight, Claudette
forgot everything she learned and only remembered how to act like her old wild self. This
shows that no matter how hard the nuns try to reeducate wild girls to be civilized girls, there
will always be a part in them that will remain wild for the rest of their life. When she threw of
her shoes and howled for help, the only one that came for help was Mirabella who chewed
through her restraints to help her. Mirabella jumped on her back and started growling at imaginary
predators. In her mind, Claudette was grateful for Mirabella s help and thought that she never
loved her more than in that moment. This shows that Claudette still is a wild girl in some parts
since she admitted that she still loved Mirabella which in a way shows that she still thinks that she
belongs to the pack. Earlier in the story, shortly after she started getting used to the new lifestyle
she said that she hated Mirabella. But Claudette doesn t thanks Mirabella for her help but rather
blames her for ruining the dance.

Theme Of Marriage In Canterbury Tales
Spousal Scammers
Over 50 percent of marriages end in divorce in the United States, a number which has only been
rising throughout the past years. Marriages end in cheating and separation frequently, so much
that the United States has become accustomed to it, but does it have to be this way? Canterbury
Tales is a collection of tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer that were told by traveling pilgrims on
their way to Canterbury. The tales are told by people of varying occupations and social status, and
focus on different morals, one of the most prevalent being the roles of husbands and wives in
marriage. By juxtaposing marriages of infidelity with those of loyalty, Chaucer satirizes the 14th
century ideals of marriage by showing that relationships based on control drive women to cheat,
while relationships built on love and mutual trust ultimately flourish.
In The Merchant s Tale , a very controlling husband loses his wife to a young man who easily wins
her over, a common theme throughout the Canterbury Talesthat Chaucer uses to warn readers
about unhealthy relationships. Chaucer frequently refers to wives throughout these tales as
property, saying To take a wife is an excellent thing, / especially when a man is old and grey; / Then
she s the best part of his property (314). January from The Merchant s Tale takes a wife On
whom he may beget a son and heir for exactly that reason only (314). He has rapacity for his land
and money and wants it to go to a son. When he

Postwar Era Entertainment Essay
The World of Entertainment During Postwar Era During the postwar era new convenient forms of
entertainment were created. That created struggles for others, such as hollywood. An equally
important factor to the changes, was Veterans coming back from the war with new priorities. The
content of movies, television, music, and literature was regulated heavily by the government such
as HUAC(Un American Activities committee). The entertainment industry fought for their rights,
thus obtaining more freedom of speech. The world of entertainment had many changes during the

Entertainment not only consists of movies, music, and television but also literature. The beat
generation spoke against how materialistic people were, and they just simply spoke up that is why
they were seen as rebels. In the world of literature and art, the Beats stood in opposition to the
clean, almost antiseptic formalism of the early twentieth century Modernist, (The Beat Generation)
that is what the Beat generation stood up for. Where literature had a turning point was in 1956
when Howel was published by Allen Ginsberg. Censorship as a force for modulating public
discourse, in the realm of literature at least, came to an end (The Beat Generation). With their work
we can express ourselves anyway desired, without anyone coming after us. Although the government
had a valid reason to be worried which was the threat of communism, they believed their work had
the ideology of communism. The beat generation was very open minded, intelligent, and had
knowledge that still impact us today such as environmentalism. The entertainment industry had to
go through all of these changes so that they were able to reach true success. Also Veterans coming
back from the war with new priorities(Overview for Films made in Post WarEra) was a major
cause to the entertainment industry, they had to come up with ways to expand their content and
come up with new things. They had to fight for their right of freedom of speech, and although for
some it was a long fight they were able to obtain it. Today we have a variety of music, movies,
literature, and tv shows thanks to all those changes that took place during the postwar

Britten Voice Range
As we discussed earlier, the voice ranges that Britten chooses in this particular opera is very
interesting. Britten expanded the voice range in all voices in order to allow the listener to have a
better understanding in characters. As Godsalve said ...four special things stand out in setting
voices; the assignment of voice classes to roles, the use of recitative and aria, textual changes, and
the combination of two or more voices... 1 (156). Britten is very aware of all these changes and
make sure that all of these applies to his composition. For an example, by using counter tenor in the
music, it allows Britten to illustrate the difference between human and fairy. Since Oberon is a
representation of non mortal, it s very interesting to see... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It shows that in order to create power and difference between human and immortal, by using
unique voice ranges allows Britten to explore the possibilities that no one else have ever tried.
Furthermore, because Oberon s natural voice was higher, by using the counter tenor it allows
him to have a high voice sound quality which is best fit with the creature that have magical
power. Furthermore, it also gives the audience an illusion that the characters have magical power
and also abilities to create without any restrictions. On the other hand, because Tytania represent
power and domination as a queen, by adding coloratura soprano to her roles it gives her power
because as a singer, in order to have become a coloratura soprano, one must require to have high
level of control over her demand, and have the confident to perform high virtuosity with an ease.
Therefore, it can symbolize that Tytania also have the power and her role in this particular opera is

The Lamb By William Blake
The Lamb was written by the famous English writer William Blake. William Blake was an English
writer from London who had very strong Christian beliefs that influenced his writings. Many of
Blake s poems had to do with his beliefs and views of God and Jesus. He published two famous
book called Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experiences , where he describes life in the eyes of
the innocent and of the experienced. In 1789 Blake published The Lamb in Songs of Innocence. I
was very pleased when I first read The Lamb because it was an easy poem that just gives you a
relaxing feeling. It also relates to many of my personal views of God and his son JesusChrist. A
sonnet is a poem made of 14 lines, The Lamb is made of only 20 lines. The Lamb is organized into
two stanzas. The first stanzastarts with Little Lamb, who made thee? and ends with Dost thou
Know who made thee? . The second stanza begins with Little Lamb, I ll tell thee and concludes
with Little Lamb, God bless thee! . The two stanzas are important because the first stanza asks a
question about who created the lamb and in the second stanza it give the response that God created
the lamb. This poem does rhymeand has a rhyme scheme of AA BB CC. AA is represented with
thee and thee, BB is feed and mead, and CC is delight and bright. William Blake often uses the
pronoun thee and thou meaning you. By using the word, thee and thy (you and your) it shows that
Blake intended to write the poem in second point of view.

Turner Syndrome
Introduction Named after Henry Turner, who in 1938 was one the first doctors to report his
discovery in the medical literature on this disorder, Turner Syndrome (TS) also known as
monosomy X. Turner Syndrome is caused by the complete or partial loss of one of the X
chromosomes resulting in 45X chromosomes. This disease affects only girls and women. It is one
of the most common chromosomal disorder and likely the most common genetic disorder of
females (National Organization for Rare Disorders 2012). Individuals are usually diagnosed before
birth, shortly after birth or during early childhood. It is important to diagnosis Turner Syndromeas

TS is not directly treated by a doctor, but the individual health concerns that arise for each girl or
woman with TS should be monitored and treated by the appropriate specialist (Turner Syndrome
Society of the U.S). Females with TS have a normal life expectancy but it also depends on the
severity of their case and if they are receiving the medical treatment that they need to live a
healthy life. For example, girls who have heart problems due to TS must see a cardiologist. Turner
Syndrome contributes to only females because we have two X chromosomes and this disorder is
the defect of one X chromosome. There is no cure for Turner Syndrome, but therapies have been
developed that can improve physical treatment. The primary therapies for affected individuals are
growth hormone therapy and estrogen therapy. Most females with Turner syndrome require sex
hormone replacement therapy in order to undergo normal development associated with puberty and
to begin their menstrual

These three poems show a wide range of visions of woman hood. La Belle Dame Sans Merci
shows a temptress, Mariana portrays woman as awaiting man and The Eve of Saint Agnes depicts
woman as nubile. So here we are shown the two extremes of womankind, and then Madeline in The
Eve of Saint Agnes as the almost perfect medium.

Her rich attire creeps rustling to her knees; / Half hidden, like a mermaid… / …and sees
/ In fancy, fair St. Agnes in her bed . This shows how she is ready for marriage and to lose her
virginity, but her innocence is shown as she dares not look behind, or all the charm is fled .
Unlike la Belle Dame she does not the man to loiter . Madeline does have this temptress value,
which is shown as Porphyro accuses her of being a Belle Dame Sans Mercy when she will not
wake. But the contrast is that Madeline does not know this and does this unintentionally.
Keats describes la Belle Dame Sans Merci with an admiration. It is almost as if he is the man in
the poem. It seems this way because it is a narrative poem. The poem tells a story, in a
conversational way. Ah what can ail thee the first line asks. Then Keats proceeds to tell the story.
Keats shows man as weak in this poem, love as a disability. We are shown how this man is
overcome by emotion as he is left palely loitering in case la Belle Dame returns. In Keats s extract
from The Eve of Saint Agnes he describes her as a figure of beauty. This time it is portrayed as
genuine and deep as Madeline is not aware of an audience. The story of The Eve of Saint Agnes is
a charming one as we see love, as it should be; requited and true. Tennyson depicts Mariana as a

  • 2. American Schools Are Failing For Minority Students The idea that American schools are failing is not a new one, but it is an idea that is extremely widespread. There are constant news reports claiming that our schools are worse than ever and Congress has passed extensive legislation such as No Child Left behind in an attempt to fix the American educational system. Some people believe that American schools are not completely failing, but only failing for minority students. Reforms like mandatory busing, vouchers, charter schools, accountability, and high stakes testing have been proposed to address these social inequalities. Despite the intentions of these policies, they have not always helped close the social inequality gap. Mandatory busing was a reform started in the 1970s to desegregate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mandatory busing helped push out students that were more likely to succeed from public schools leaving behind the students that struggled the most. A more recent educational reform program is the concept of school choice. Instead of being forced to attend the school chosen by the local district students would receive vouchers. Students would be able to take their voucher and apply the funds normally allocated to them at any school. Parents would be able to decide which school is the best for their children and students that would normally be trapped in a low performing school could instead attend a different school. A problem with vouchers is that private schools are allowed to approve if a student can attend. The students that could benefit the most from moving to a private school could be refused admittance. Another issue is that higher income families would be more likely to use this program than lower income families that do not have the same values in education. Finally school vouchers would be taking money away from the public school system which would reduce the quality of education that the public schools could provide. Charter schools are another approaching in allow parents and students to have a choice in where their children go to school. Charter schools are approved by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Birth Of Hip-Hop Rapping During The Harlem Renaissance The culture made the birth of hip hop possible. Culture was simply the reason we found ourselves looking for a way to make money as the Harlemites did during the Renaissance period. Immigrants and businessman strived and hustled to get everything out of nothing. White folks downtown started the entertainment industry and black folks needed to make money due to no work and tough living conditions in Harlem. Black folks could always make quick money in the entertainment business. The whole system producing hip hop was how mechanisms and people worked together to provide new innovations, whether they know it or not. DJ Herc was a teenage boy who played for his little sisters s party so that she could raise money for her dress. The party was a hit and he kept doing it, eventually migrating to the local park for more space. Herc created a way to extend the beat breaks by stopping the beat and playing it again on another disc. He discovered the use of playing two discs on turn tables and called it the merry go round . While Herc was DJ ing he had people with him performing in their own way. He didn t say much on the mic besides the natural interjections he does with the crowd. He claims he gets that from his Jamaican roots and the reggae he is used to. Coke La Rock was who he let become the one who talk fast and talk slick, he could do it, have been doing it and make it sound good off of the beat as well as any DJ or maybe better. Hip hop rap was claimed to have been created from the pot of Herc s group. Kool Herc also had boys with him that danced on his breaks, a type of dance called break dance or b boy dance. He himself, before becoming a DJ, was a tagger or someone who does graffiti. She is a prolific writer and her literary canon consists of nine novels, two autobiographies and some non fictional works. In fact, NayantaraSahgal has introduced a considerable number of autobiographical elements in her novels. For a question, she asserts that all art is autobiographical (Women s Space The Mosaic World Of Margaret Drabble AndNayantaraSahgal, 27).Her work ranges from factual and emotional autobiography to fictionalized autobiography. They should achieve something solid to prove their merit. A self fulfilled woman will be an asset to the family. She also finds fault with the society, which observes a double standard with regard to chastity or morality. While society imposes strong sanctions against even minor indiscretions on the part of women, it shows considerable leniency towards such aberrations in men. She also castigates the undue importance given to chastity. The concept of chastity, according to Sahgal, is much more related to mind than to body. Most of the times the punishment falls heavy on the aggrieved party that is woman. For her, Sex is not an act of body or for the movement but it pervades mind and spirit and all activities of husband and wife. It is an act of culmination of love, understanding and sympathy. There is a need of external financing for the expansion through acquisition. External financing is a good source of raising money besides internal funds. As per business finance, external financing can take the shape of two different types of financing, debt or equity. Debt financing includes bank loans where a company gets financed by issuing debentures which they have to pay back after a certain period of time. It is called debt financing because the company is in debt to the bond holders and if they were to go bankrupt, the bond holders would have claim to any remaining assets. In this case these are secured business loans. Equity financing is when a company decides to give up ownership in the company to raise funds. This is usually done by selling company stock to investors. Sometimes this could include seeking out angel investors or venture capitalists. If you are expecting to get external financing through equity financing make sure that your business has a product or service that is unique, and that there is a high demand for your product or service. Most venture capital investors or even angel investors will not look at an offer unless they see a large growth potential. (2) IPO is a part of equity financing. • 8. The Importance Of Youth Work Activities During our time studying in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu critical decisions regarding youth work practice were made. One of these decisions was staying to wait for our boat to the island of Savo. Many of the group woke up early to be at the port in time to catch our boat to be told that we would be waiting at least another hour. During the wait the group found a comfortable spot and relaxed. After the hour ended the group went back to the port in time to catch the boat however, we ended up waiting another 45 minutes there as the boat needed fuel. Although waiting in humid 30 degree heat is difficult, patience and resilience were shown by all group members and it provided an important learning opportunity for me which I will take into my youthwork practice. This wait was not our first nor last in the Pacific Islands and by the end of the trip I understood what island time was. By waiting for the boat without complaint the group embraced the relaxed Pacific Islander culture. This had positive effects throughout the day as once we had left the port, the day ran smoothly. Any issue with the wait may have caused tension between the group and Paul or David who were our tour guides for the day. This was not the first time the group had been kept waiting on the trip, although we had only been there for a few days. The first was on our initial night in Honiara at the church, in which the service started 45 minutes to an hour late. During this wait I asked the young person I was ... History of Lymphatic Filariasis It is unknown of how or where this infectious disease (lymphatic filariasis) arouse. The first documentation of lymphatic filariasis was not seen until an exploration that occurred in Goa during the years 1588 to 1592. Since lymphatic filariasis is not commonly found in America, this drug is no longer approved by the FDA and can only be obtained by a physician if lab tests come back positive for the infection. When the drug is administered, there is a 1 or 12 day treatment of DEC. This drug does not kill all adult worms, but can prevent the infection from spreading. Areas that are at high risk for becoming affected are treated through a process called preventive chemotherapy that uses 2 medicines: albendazole and ivermectin (or in some cases DEC). This medicine combination clears all microfilariae from the bloodstream and thus can prevent the further of transmission of this infectious disease. Other treatments aside from taking DEC can be the following: washing the swollen area with soap and water daily, elevate the affected area in order to improve lymphflow, and disinfect any wounds that may arise by using antibacterial. Present day research on Lymphatic Filariasis Recent research shows the transmission of lymphatic filariasis in high risk populations has dropped by 43% since the start of GPELF. Before GPELF, 81 countries were deemed as being common for lymphatic filariasis. From 2000 to 2013, over 5 billion treatments were delivered to a targeted population of about 984 million individuals in 56 countries, which reduced the transmission. Other research suggests that 73 countries are still common for this disease and out of those 73, 17 have proposed strategies to eliminate the transmission of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sky had been overcast for almost the entire day, leading to a brief although torrential downpour in the mid afternoon. The streets of the Bronx outside the third story apartment window that Leonard Jefferson Bennings now looked out were saturated from the July rainstorm and shone with a glimmer he remembered seeing from his bedroom window in Massachusetts many years ago. He wondered if he would ever get to see his childhood home again, and, if he did, would the world of his youth still exist even there? Without even acknowledging the presence of any other human being in the room, she walked out toward the kitchen, probably either to get a drink of water, or to find Eric, the group leader. Leonard had always wondered why it was that she was so consumed by hatred for the Germans. Admittedly, few people in the world had any real reason to love the Nazis, especially with them burning their way across half of New England and in control of or allied with most of rest of the world. Still, Christina s hatred seemed much more personal than pure patriotism; even those in the group who had lost family in the invasion didn t show the level of unbridled hate she did. The only clue she had ever given as to the source of her rage was one she never spoke. • 12. Comparing Women In The Odyssey And Lysistrata Since the beginning of time, women have always been looked down upon mentally. During the time period of The Odyssey and Lysistrata, women were known as less powerful gender. They have never had much say about what goes on around them. Some women were recognized as a sex symbol. In The Odyssey, some women were goddesses that just wanted sex and other women had to stay at home to help raise their kids and do all of the feminine work. Compared to The Odyssey, in Lysistrata, women denied sex against their men to get what they want. In addition, they did not have many political rights and a say so on what goes on in their country. In comparing both of these stories, women show similarities toward each other. In The Odyssey it shows that all the women are uniquely different by their relationships, desire, and personality towards men. In addition, all the women help represent the typical role of a woman. Their role is very critical in the ongoing adventure in this epic poem. Homer represents women as strong roles and real life characters such as them being strong, tough, and diligent. In the story there are three major types of women, which are the goddess, the good hostess/wife, and seducers. With each one of these female characters they are a vital importance and add a different type of factor to the story. • 13. A Student s First Year Of College Essay The significance behind earning a college degree has changed drastically over the last several decades. With many professions now requiring a college education, more students are enrolled in college today than ever before. However, just because more students are enrolled in college does not mean that more people are on the path to success. Attending collegecan present a plethora of obstacles for students due to a variety of different reasons. As leaders in higher educationwork to develop strategies to support students towards their college degree, it is imperative that we understand and review the various factors that hinder a student s progress. Literature Review A student s first year of college is arguably one of the most critical years in a student s collegiate career. When students perform well in their first year of college, they are significantly more likely to continue towards and earn their degree. Therefore, it is especially important that higher education officials analyze ways to improve upon a student s initial college experience. Kuh, Cruce, Shoup, Kinzie, and Gonyea (2008) analyzed the relationships between student engagement and academic achievement and persistence among first year students. Using ACT/SAT score reports, the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), and student academic and financial aid information, researchers sought to determine the contributing factors of first year GPA. Legally, he fulfilled his obligation and therefore no longer holds any responsibility in the eyes of the legal system. In the eyes of morality though, his responsibility in the matter was not over just because he reported it to who he was supposed to. This major problem should have been dealt with a long time ago. It s just a moral obligation that Joe Paterno should have acted upon. So yes I feel he deserved to be fired. Everyone who knew about it should have reported it to legal authorities. The power to change the way we design, manufacture our products, recycle and market it falls on the designers. This is undeniably crucial for a business to continue to be profitable. Some solutions to this problem are incentives, having a good work environment, and showing appreciation. When employees perform poorly by not doing their job or not doing their job well, it reflects negatively on the business. Customers who are not satisfied, may complain and may not return. Customers can also discourage others from going to that particular establishment by telling their friends about their terrible experience. The business then loses money from that customer and that customers friends who now do business with the competition. That business may now have a bad reputation that started from that one customer s negative experience (Deeb). People have been told for centuries that the Titanic s catastrophic sinking was caused by the ship hitting an iceberg. Hundreds of movies have been made and thousands of articles and books have been written about the infamous sinking. However, the cause of the sinking is very different than most people have been told all along. The Titanic, which was regarded as unsinkable, was the largest ship of its time. The ship was owned by the White Star Line, and departed from Southampton England on April 10 1912, scheduled to bring its 2224 passengers to New York. One major piece of evidence that supports the fire theory is the images discovered by Molony that reveal a thirty foot long, diagonal black mark on the hull s front starboard side. These marks resemble scorch marks caused by a fire at almost exactly where the iceberg struck the ship (NY Daily News). The pictures Molony references were found at an auction house and were taken by chief electrical engineer of the Titanic, John Westbeech Kempster. Kempster took these photographs on April 1 and April 2 at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland, just over a week before the ship sailed (CNN). At first, Molony thought the black mark could just be a reflection, but after careful examination, he found that the mark did not change places between photographs. One thing that caught Molony s eye about the mark was that it was facing the sea, not the dock. Molony believes that the ship was strategically positioned so that the passengers were not able to see the mark, so as not to raise questions (New York Times). Dr. Guillermo Rein, who specializes in studying coal fires, also examined the photos with Molony. • 31. Essay Justice in the Oresteia Justice in the Oresteia Justice is often taken for granted in the world we live in today with a judicial system that gives fair punishment for most crimes. In the Oresteia justice works much differently, where there are no judges or a court system to resolve disputes, instead there is revenge. Revenge is very messy because somebody will and has to get hurt first to desire revenge, and it leads to a cycle that cannot and will not end until everybody is dead. Justice does not and cannot only be revenge because in the end nobody would be left in that system. Aeschylus Oresteia focuses on revenge as justice, with the old system that no longer works and that someone must fix, and a new system that has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clytemnestra also gives her justification for murdering her husband, and for ten long years she thought about how sweet revenge would be when Agamemnon arrived. She also tells her lover, Aegisthus, Our lives are based on pain (1690). Clytemnestra does not realize how ironic her statement will be later on when pain controls her. Aegisthus sums up their code of justice when he says, There are gods in heaven avenging men, / blazing down on all the crimes of earth (1607 1608). He also is foreshadowing that his crime must also be paid for and he will suffer the consequences of killing Agamemnon and revenge. Aegisthus does not realize it, but Orestes is seeking revenge upon him and his for the death of Agamemnon. After Orestes kills them, there is nobody left alive to kill him to avenge their deaths. Clytemnestra invokes the Furies who seek revenge for anybody who has nobody to seek it for them. The Furies chase Orestes to Apollo s temple where Orestes asks him for forgiveness, Lord Apollo, you know the rules of justice, / know them well. Now learn compassion (88 89). Orestes is the first person who is trying to change the system and realizes it must be changed for the gods and the Furies to spare his life. Revenge as justice has one major problem, ... Concentric Or Eccentric Training This article is about the modifications to muscle strength, velocity, and neural activity as well as any morphological changes subsequently going through either eccentric or concentric training. Eccentric training has illustrated to have adequately good effects on muscle hypotrophy, strengthening the muscle, and has made efficient exercises for injured athletes going through rehabilitation. But with eccentric training it makes lower concentric but vaster eccentric strength enhancements compared with concentric training, due to eccentric and concentric training providing dissimilar stimuli to the muscles. An improvement is necessary in obtaining the information of the potential differences of morphological and neural adaptations in the early stages of eccentric and concentric training in order to improve musculoskeletal rehabilitation programs and there has been a lack of researching the effects of resistance training. Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a summary of Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends with a commission similar to the other Gospels. Communication of the acquisition did not occur however and the bid came as a complete surprise to the Wellcome employees who felt betrayed by the decision. Details of the acquisition should have been originally shared by Wellcome Trust as promised, but now should be done by Glaxo as the CEO, Sir Richard Sykes, assured Wellcome CEO, John Robb, Wellcome managementwould play a role in the acquisition including job placement. This is an important aspect of any acquisition as the lack of or ineffective communication strains the employer employee relationship during such time and reduces personnel morale (Bansal, 2017, p. 421). Of particular importance to both companies should be discussion and strategy as to how Glaxo would partner Wellcome Israel with their existing Israel distributor, CTS. Most living creatures depend on food and water to meet their fundamental needs for survival. Likewise, humans also require these basic needs, but we also have large egos that need to be satisfied. As privileged members of a well developed society, we do not see how fortunate we are to have easy access to unlimited amounts of fresh clean water. All of our basic needs are easily met, so the focus for most of us is to fulfil our social and psychological needs. Can you imagine the women and children lined up at the verge of dehydration, burning in the hot African sun for clean drinking water? Did you feel pity for the helpless population, desperately in need of an essential? Would you feel that same pity for the helpless crowds in first world countries trying to be socially accepted? Whatever the answer may be, we have become paralyzed, paralyzed by the desire to be wanted. In this way, we become very self centred because, while the literal thirst for people in developing nations is a major issue of concern, the thirst for social acceptancein our westernized world seems to be the primary focus of our society. Marriages end in cheating and separation frequently, so much that the United States has become accustomed to it, but does it have to be this way? Canterbury Tales is a collection of tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer that were told by traveling pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. The tales are told by people of varying occupations and social status, and focus on different morals, one of the most prevalent being the roles of husbands and wives in marriage. By juxtaposing marriages of infidelity with those of loyalty, Chaucer satirizes the 14th century ideals of marriage by showing that relationships based on control drive women to cheat, while relationships built on love and mutual trust ultimately flourish. In The Merchant s Tale , a very controlling husband loses his wife to a young man who easily wins her over, a common theme throughout the Canterbury Talesthat Chaucer uses to warn readers about unhealthy relationships. Chaucer frequently refers to wives throughout these tales as property, saying To take a wife is an excellent thing, / especially when a man is old and grey; / Then she s the best part of his property (314). • 53. The Lamb By William Blake The Lamb was written by the famous English writer William Blake. William Blake was an English writer from London who had very strong Christian beliefs that influenced his writings. Many of Blake s poems had to do with his beliefs and views of God and Jesus. He published two famous book called Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experiences , where he describes life in the eyes of the innocent and of the experienced. In 1789 Blake published The Lamb in Songs of Innocence. I was very pleased when I first read The Lamb because it was an easy poem that just gives you a relaxing feeling. It also relates to many of my personal views of God and his son JesusChrist. A sonnet is a poem made of 14 lines, The Lamb is made of only 20 lines. The Lamb is organized into two stanzas. The first stanzastarts with Little Lamb, who made thee? and ends with Dost thou Know who made thee? . The second stanza begins with Little Lamb, I ll tell thee and concludes with Little Lamb, God bless thee! . The two stanzas are important because the first stanza asks a question about who created the lamb and in the second stanza it give the response that God created the lamb. This poem does rhymeand has a rhyme scheme of AA BB CC. AA is represented with thee and thee, BB is feed and mead, and CC is delight and bright. William Blake often uses the pronoun thee and thou meaning you. By using the word, thee and thy (you and your) it shows that Blake intended to write the poem in second point of view. ... Unlike la Belle Dame she does not the man to loiter . Madeline does have this temptress value, which is shown as Porphyro accuses her of being a Belle Dame Sans Mercy when she will not wake. But the contrast is that Madeline does not know this and does this unintentionally. Keats describes la Belle Dame Sans Merci with an admiration. It is almost as if he is the man in the poem. It seems this way because it is a narrative poem. The poem tells a story, in a conversational way. Ah what can ail thee the first line asks. Then Keats proceeds to tell the story. Keats shows man as weak in this poem, love as a disability. We are shown how this man is overcome by emotion as he is left palely loitering in case la Belle Dame returns. In Keats s extract from The Eve of Saint Agnes he describes her as a figure of beauty. This time it is portrayed as genuine and deep as Madeline is not aware of an audience.
