Nonexistent Knight Postmodernism Essay
The term postmodernism is used a lot with the analysis of characters of The Nonexistent Knight
and the story. Postmodernism is the acceptance that the world lacks true creativity, that reality is
fragmented, and the belief that all communication is shaped by cultural bias, myth, metaphor,
and political content. So basically, it is the realization of the world being biased and lack of true
creativity. An example of this would be Gurduloo and how he is the opposite of what society
wants him to be. He is seen as a postmodernist character due to his opposite reactions to what
society has taught us to follow and be. A real life example of this is that humans aren t creators in
the eyes of Christians, only Godcan create. Humans can be influenced... Show more content on

I must avenge my father, you know (Calvino 16) to shows us how society plays a role in their
lives and how they are built to believe a specific ideal and have to follow it. We can also see how
authority is dealt with each character. Some authority figures are the emperor Charlemagne, codes
of chivalry, fathers or even religion. All of these authority figures equal to the ideals of society,
which contributes to the characters ways of thinking and how they perceive other things like truth
and identity. For example, Torrismund was the only character who questioned Agilulf s validity
in saying things, Non sense! All tales... Neither he exists nor the things he does nor what he says,
nothing, nothings at all ... (Calvino 69), yet he still says and believes in the knights of the Holy
Grail because it s what society has made him think that is normal. In the same fashion Gurduloo
has a perspective on life that is outside of the modern perspectives. That is why certain people can
define him as being insane, because he chooses to dwell outside of society. Raimbaut says to
Gurduloo Why don t you make him realize that all isn t soup and put an end to this saraband of

My Caliber War On Various Internet Forums And On Social Media
With the recent announcement by the Federal Bureau of Investigation that they will be going
back to the 9mm cartridge, there has been a rekindling of the age old caliber war on various
internet forums and on social media sites such as FaceBook. It so happens that this new round of
my caliber is better than your caliber comes at a time when I am making preparations to attend the
2015 Realistic Advanced Combatives Seminar hosted by Cabelas in Dundee, Michigan and taught
by Dave Spaulding and Sgt. Charles E. Humes. I attended the RACS training conference for the
first time in March of 2014 and handgun stopping power was a subject that was discussed quite
heavily at that conference. In order to discuss the effectiveness of any particular... Show more

The result of these heavy projectiles fired at such great velocity create not only a hole in the
target, but in targets such as the human body create a wide area around the wound itself known
as a temporary wound channel. This temporary wound channel is caused by hydrostatic shock.
Hydrostatic shock can produce incapacitating effects much more quickly than blood loss alone.
A shotgun firing buckshot, fires multiple projectiles that impact the body all at once and cause a
shock overload to the system. This shock overload is very effective at incapacitating a human
being. A shotgun firing slugs that are huge chunks of lead and so heavy they are weighted in
ounces rather than grains has the double effect of a massive wound channel coupled a with
shock overload. In contrast, bullets fired from a handgun must actually come into contact with
the adversary s tissue or organs in order to disrupt them. This means that in order for bullets fired
from a handgun to physically incapacitate the target we must hit something important, such as
the spinal column, heart, brain or major blood vessels. In essence, we must be more accurate
with a pistol then with a rifle and that is a mighty tall order. So, why do we carry the pistol? The
answer is, we carry a handgun simply because it is portable not because it is super duper dealer of
damage and death. Common sense would tell us that a bigger bullet is a better bullet. But, bigger
bullets have greater felt recoil and since most

Analysis Of Still Life With Golden Breams By Francisco De...
Many artists through time have used art to express emotion or a standpoint, and Francisco de
Goya can surely be classified under this category of artist. Famously known for his controversial
relationship with the Spanish government the audience may conclude that many of his painting
will have a connection to the dispute. For example, in Still Life with Golden Breams most
people may see it as a well made still life of lifeless fish but in reality, it holds a deeper meaning.
For instance, when someone gets the opportunity to observe this composition they could say that
the inability for the Golden Breams to close their eyes reminds the viewer of how the fish were
ones alive. That is to say Goya probably made this still life to symbolize... Show more content on

Texture and mass are also very evident in this artwork. Francisco de Goya used texture and value
to his advantage to create a realistic figure that contains mass. The illusion of mass is so well
portrayed that it is almost as if the viewer could reach in and grab a fish out of the canvas and
hold it like a merchant in a fish market. In addition, the way the fish are stacked on top of each
other renders an organic rhythm that flows easily. In other words, the Golden Breams do not
look as if they were in an artificial potion rather it looks natural. Overall, Goya used atmospheric
perspective to create the sense of proximity of the fish to the viewer by modifying color, value,
and texture. The overall style of Francisco de Goya was miscellaneous since it evolved and
changed through his careers as an artist, however, his message to portray his standpoint and
feeling has been there since the beginning. Goya s brush strokes would vary from slow and
delicate to raid and aggressive depending on his work. In addition, his use of contrast would
deviate from time as well but in his most noticeable artwork he would highlight the main subject
and darken the background. The way Goya used light and darkness ended up created a unique
technique where the artist would force the audience to look at a specific part of the

Hernan Cortes Essay
Hernan Cortes
Myths are hangups from way back :[1] false or highly inaccurate beliefs that are taken at face
value. One collection of myths which has exercised a powerful grip on the minds of many, and
contributed to feelings of inferiority on the part of large numbers of pure or mixed descendants of
Native Americans in the region of northern Mesoamerica,2 has to do with the conquest of the Aztec
Empire by HernanCortes and his followers in the early sixteenth century. This paper attempts to
shatter one of these myths; namely, that Cortes was an extraordinarily brave and intelligent
individual who accomplished an almost miraculous feat. It will do so by making use of the twin
concepts of virtu and fortuna.
These two terms are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both decisions were based on his ignorance of the actual power of the Triple Alliance and the
confederation of Tlaxcallan.[7]
Cortes underestimated these two because of his early experiences in Mesoamerica. Although they
initially tried to avoid confrontations with the native communities, the Spaniards had to engage in
several battles against a coalition of Maya armies near Potonchan (located in the present day state
of Tabasco). However, they were able to win these battles thanks to the superiority of their weapons
and military tactics.
The outcome of these skirmishes was quickly known! by the Triple Alliance. As a result, when
Cortes arrived in the region of Totonacapan, this alliance opted in favor of a strategy of deterrence
rather than war. Envoys sent by Tenochtitlan established contact with Cortes and presented him
with a series of lavish gifts that were meant to indicate the might of the Triple Alliance.[8]
However, the strategy backfired because Cortes was unable to grasp the symbolism of the gifts and
interpreted them as a sign of weakness. Moreover, the great quantity of gold given to the Spaniards
made them all the more determined to reach Tenochtitlan.

Essay On The Differences Between Bismarck And Wilhelm
Overall, while the foreign policies of Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm were not very similar, they
did both maintain the Dual and Triple Alliances, and Germany was at the center of European
diplomacy during both era s, however it was in different ways. Therefore, while both policies did
not share many similarities, they did have their key differences. For instance, during the rule of
Otto Von Bismarck, Germanyhad a strong and well developed foreign policy. This is because
through the use of foreign policy, Otto Von Bismarck aimed to weaken France, thus ensuring that
no other country would attack Germany. Additionally, Bismarck also prevented threats to Germany

Kaiser Wilhelm had their similarities and differences, both decisions were extremely significant to
World War Iin a variety of different ways. For instance, the foreign policies of Otto Von Bismarck
were significant to World War I in the sense that one of Bismarck s primary aims was to weaken
and isolate France. Additionally, Bismarck used diplomacy in order to protect the newly unified
German Empire, as well as to settle disputes and prevent a large European War. Furthermore,
Bismarck aimed to protect the unification of Germany through use of foreign policies and also
focused on advancing their economic interests. Thus, Bismarck had limited interest in building
a world empire, unlike Wilhelm II. In general, through Bismarck s foreign policy tactics and
agreements, he successfully manipulated several countries, and his alliances via his
agreements ultimately created a great deal of tension, and caused Europe to have World War I.
Meanwhile, Kaiser Wilhelm II s foreign policy tactics were significant to World War I as his
decisions also ultimately caused World War I to occur. For instance, Wilhelm II s aims through
use of foreign policies was to use Weltpolitik policies that would make Germany have a place in
the sun , and also known as a respected power during the course of World War I. In order to
accomplish these goals, Wilhelm II believed that Germany needed to expand their territory in
order to gain colonies (so that Germany would also have a voice in world politics), and that
Germany needed to have a powerful navy. However, Wilhelm s eagerness to build a powerful navy
ultimately lead to tension with Britain. Additionally, Wilhelm II s aims through foreign policy that
ultimately lead to World War I is that he believed in Germany breaking their alliance with Russia,
thus refusing to renew the Reinsurance Treaty in

Essay about Symbolism Within the Bell Jar Novel
Sylvia Plath s novel, The Bell Jar , tells a story of a young woman s descent into mental illness.
Esther Greenwood, a 19 year old girl, struggles to find meaning within her life as she sees a
distorted version of the world. In Plath s novel, different elements and themes of symbolism are
used to explain the mental downfall of the book s main character and narrator such as cutting her
off from others, forcing her to delve further into her own mind, and casting an air of negativity
around her. Plath uses images of rotting fig trees and veils of mist to convey the desperation she
feels when confronted with issues of her future. Esther Greenwood feels that she is trapped under a
bell jar, which distorts her view of the world around her.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Three days later, she is found and placed in a mental hospital. First assigned to a rich psychiatrist
named Dr. Gordon, Esther feels harassed by the doctors surrounding her. She feels that they do not
really care about her; in a sense, they don t. After seeing Esther three times, he states that she is
not improving due to the fact that she has not been able to sleep, read, eat, or write in three weeks.
She is moved to his mental asylum, where she suffers through electroshock therapy for the first
time. The procedure is done incorrectly and she is shocked, literally.
Because the method was not implemented correctly, Esther is awake the whole time, feeling the
electricity course through her. As her condition worsens, she is placed in a privately funded asylum.
She once again undergoes electroshock therapy, but this time it is done correctly, lifting the bell jar
off of her. She states that it hangs a few feet above her head. Being under the bell jar is a
terrifying experience for Esther. It renders her useless of her greatest skill, writing. It makes her
hate essentially everyone and everything that had once meant something to her. It turns her into a
hollow shell. She makes an attempt to seem normal and portray the talented girl she has always
been, up until then. How did I know that someday at college, in Europe, somewhere, anywhere the
bell jar, with its stifling distortions, wouldn t descend again (Plath 241)? Even though

Example Of Cultural Analysis
Cultural Expectations and Proxemics As consumers in this country, we all at some point, have or
will have gone out to eat at a public restaurant. The site I chose was a Mexican restaurant called
Zacatecas, which is located in a shopping center in Galt. This shopping center has a variety of other
business establishments like a Raley s grocery store, Walmart, two coffee shops, pizza shop, and a
Chinese restaurant to mention a few. This location is always busy with a variety of consumers with
different cultural perspectives. I find it interesting how different people with different cultural
customs occupy space, proxemics, in a public Mexican restaurant. I feel that anthropologists would

As I walked I noticed there were customers, all Caucasians, sitting at four different tables that
were all against the wall and the middle of the dining area was empty. I proceeded to the bar and
was greeted by the bartender/waitress, who was also a female Caucasian. The employees at the
restaurant were mostly Caucasian with the exception of one Hispanic looking waitress and the
part of the cooking staff. Shortly after, a white couple sat down a few bar stools away from me,
but not very close. They sat there having a couple of margaritas engaged in deep conversation.
Glancing back over to the dining area I noticed it was getting busier with more customers coming
in. What I noticed first, was that everyone was gravitating to all the outer tables against the wall
and front windows. Secondly, that I was the only Hispanic customer at that time. All customers
were engaged in conversation, eating or watching the televisions. The employees were running
around taking food orders and taking food out to customers. Most customers seemed to be in good
spirts with the exception of one table. At this table there was an elderly woman with her daughter.
The daughter was complaining that her mother received the wrong food and that it took too long
for their order to come out.

Roland had a very close relationship with his step father, but his step father dies when Roland was
16 years old leaving a great emptiness and sense of being alone inside.
Although Rolnad s mother displayed love and affection to Roland, her parenting style left Roland
with no sense of consequence to his action. Roland believes that nobody should continue to be
upset with him after he apologies. An apology alone, void of any action, is enough for all to be
forgiven and forgotten to Roland. His biological father had a relationship with him growing up, but
he only saw his father occasionally growing up. Roland resents his father leaving the family when
he was just a young boy and starting a family with a new woman. Isolation is when one feels
completely alone, disconnected, and secluded and it is a process where an idea or memory is
divested of its emotional component (Cooper, 2003).
Death is something that has caused Roland s only male role model and support system to be
taking away from him. The death of his step father is what caused the emotions he had for his
biological father to matesized and to be projected upon others in his life.
Roland has a lack of self esteem and feels like he is not worthy of love unless he forces upon

in turn, the United States and its assets. At this point, the Shah was the primary figurehead and
there was little to no attention given to those that opposed him and his regime within his own

Argumentative Essay About Adolf Hitler
Adolf Hitler was not a fabricated beast from a horror movie, like many seem to think. Hitler was,
in fact, a man of unjust accusations, and an evil power hungry tyrant. The fact remains that he
was indeed, a human. That s the alarming part of it. It wasn t Satan himself that endured
hardships, failed the trials of life, became a power driven leader that kept Germany first, and
eventually caused the deaths of 11 million people. Hitler killed 11 million people with lives,
families, and the possibility of a future that was taken away from them. He was only a man, so

Examples Of Globalization In The Movie Lion
Globalization has been presented in almost all of the movies today. In the movie Lion , a big part
that helped the main character find his way was through technology, using media, trade, and
transportation as the main factors. In this film, the producers and directors took a true story about a
little boy s unfortunate mishap that turned around and changed his life. As he went into his
adulthood he used technology and transportation to find where he came from, and through
globalization it abled him to find his way back home.
Throughout the movie the train symbolized the transportation factor of globalization. The train was
there in the beginning when the boy lost his way and, was there at the end when he found it. In the
modern world, trains, planes, cars, and trucks is what we use to travel or transport goods. Yes,

Defining The Contemporary Labels Of China s Youth Consumers
1. Introduction
Youth consumers rising demands for contemporary labels are hard to miss. Nowadays,
contemporary labels receive a high level of attention when it comes to the Generation Y. As
contemporary labels consumers make very distinct purchase decision in this product domain that
they differ from the respective mass market consumers. They are subconsciously also forming a sort
of consumer behavior that was known in society as conspicuous consumption. By linking
conspicuous consumption with contemporary labels, this essay will investigate the relationship
between the two elements and how did it equate together in this marketing environment. Examples
of contemporary labels that China s youth consumers like to conduct conspicuous consumption
includes brands like Alexander Wang that has been successful in addressing the need for minimalism
that references athleticism in its appearance (Walker, 2011:178). The rationale behind formulating
this essay is aimed to define the contemporary labels and the concept of conspicuous consumption
that is currently widespread and on going in China after its modernization and the rise of the super
rich . Furthermore, it will serve as an investigation to the extent which purchasing contemporary
labels represent a form of conspicuous consumption. Consumers actively seeking products that
differ from mainstream and companies regard this consumer behavior as an opportunity beyond
saturated mass market.

Why Cheating Is Wrong
Would you believe that 80 to 95 percent of high school students admit to cheating at least one
time in the past year? (2nd source). Students use many tactics for cheating because they do not
understand the subject, or they stress the need to be successful. I believe, because of
transformation of cheating and lack of disciplinary consequences, cheating has become more
prevalent in schools in our society. The first idea to understand about cheating is the many forms
of how they are carried out. As technology has grown and evolved to what it is today, it has
opened many more ways of cheating to occur and causes the temptation to be much easier to
pursue. But first, there is the most basic form of cheating that we all know and it is by simply
looking off another student s paper. Whether it would be for homeworkor a test, it is more
commonly used to copy for a test. Next, students may get together and have one person to one half
of the homework while the other does the other half, then they both exchange papers and copy each
others answers. Through the wonderful world of technology, cheating and plagiarizing is very easy
to encounter, even without us realizing it. Students use Internet sources to look up answers for
school work and use those answers as their own. What they fail to do is properly source their
information. When this happens, they do not give credit to the information source, and it could cost
the student a zero for the schoolwork, in the class, or worse they get

Scientific Management And Human Relations
Scientific Management and Human Relations are two different management approaches. In
Scientific Management, managers are responsible to think and workers do. Frederick Winslow
Taylor (1856 1915) develops the Principles of Time and Motion Study, which leads to a
conclusion that certain people have a higher work efficiency compared to the others. In his means,
cooperation is to do what workers are told to do without asking questions or making suggestions.
(as cited in Miller Form, 1924).
Human Relation Management was founded by Professor Elton Mayo (1880 1949). During the
industrial revolution in early 1920 s, Mayo initiated the Human Relation Theory of Management. A
psychologist, Henry C. Link (as cited in Miller Form, 1924, p. 657) relates that the ideal
employment method is receiving applicants from all kinds at one end, sort, interview, and record
them, before labelling them with the righteous job. Mayo introduced an experiment, the Hawthorne
Studies, to look into the impact of working environment on the productivity of workers.
Scientific Management, also known as Taylorism, is a theory of management which focuses on
workflows analysis. In the 20th century, a large number of immigrants which lacks the ability to
comprehend in English entered the workforce in the United States, whom Taylor concludes that
labourers are not qualified to plan the process of their jobs. In almost all the mechanic arts the
science which underlies each act of each workman is so

Understanding Cultural Communication
Language is a communication method that makes everything easy to communicate with others. The
language barrier is the biggest challenge and hurdle of most people whom their English is a second
language. Growing up in a family with parents that only speak another language could be viewed
very similarly to a double edged sword. This challenge with society forces people to learn the
English language. Although there a lot of difficulties with the second language, eventually the
transition between both languages would become easier by time and more practice. Starting to be
able to comprehend the English language is the best way overcomes this barrier. Although these
challenges were not easy to overcome, persistence, dedication and hard work would facilitate
everything. Despite the fact that language is considered the biggest barrier, culture comes as a
second harder barrier in means of communication. Effective communication with people of different
cultures is especially challenging. Culture on the other hand, provides people with ways of
thinking, seeing and hearing and, then understands the things around. Thus, the same word can
mean different things to people from different cultures, even when they talk the same language.
Stella Ting Toomey describes how culture involves with cultural understanding where ach culture
has its own rules about proper behavior which affect verbal and nonverbal communication. How
close the people stand to each

Make sure you follow the adventure by checking our backcountry driving from days 1 2 during our
trip to Big Bend National Park. Wake Up One of my first task when after waking up was checking
on Bmo after he was forced to sleep in his truck with only a blanket due to a leaking tent. He was
alive and mostly warm, so we all jumped in my car for a few minutes with the heat on. Once we
were all fully warmed up, it was time to boil water for oatmeal and Malt O Meal. Finally, Jack and I

What Is Malcolm X s View Of Religion
The opinions that many people have about religion derive from their association with churches,
mosques, and other places of worship. However, Malcolm X defied the usual curve of religious
doctrine and embraced what he felt was right for him and those who shared his views. In his
autobiography, Malcolm X abandoned atheism to become a follower of the Nation of Islam(NOI)
and later, he ended up following Eastern Islam. In the Autobiography of Malcolm X, Malcolm s
views and his idealism is derived from his practice of Islam and his will to fight for the rights of
African Americans also come from the same base.
The theme of religion is introduced in the autobiography during Malcolm s time in the state
prison of Massachusetts. While in prison, he started to study books in a small library. Later in
1948, Malcolm was moved to Norfolk Prison. There was little violence in this prison and inmates
could debate and study freely. While in prison, Malcolm studied many books such as religion,
history, literature, linguistics, and biology. Malcolm first heard about the Nation of Islam from his
home when Reginald, his brother requested him to do so, and this became his first step into full
conversion to Islam. Reginald told him about a spiritual leader called Elijah Muhammad who
preached against the evils of white people and compared them as the devils. Consequently, he
recalled the way his family was split by social workers and a teacher who always watered down his

Factors Affecting The Health And Social Care Services
The key factors that drive change in health and social care services are mostly known through
SWOT and PEST analysis. PEST is an acronym for political, economic, social and technology.
PEST analysis investigates the important factors that are affecting the industry and influencing the
companies operating in the health and social care. PEST analyses are external factors and when
legal and environment are added it becomes PESTLE analyses.
SWOT analyses at the other hand are internal factors. SWOT is an acronym for strength, weakness,
opportunity and threat. All the internal factors such as structure, skills, staff, systems, and shared
values need to be considered in the change. The above mentioned internal factors are really
important to the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust (RUH).
Political factors including factors like government policies and legislation drive change in the
health and social care sector. The political factors are known to have influence on the structure of
the organization, the professional practice, the distribution of services and the quality of services.
An example of a recent government policy on the NHS, is the introduction of charges to overseas
patients introduced by the British government led by the Tory party. Which makes it illegal for the
NHS to see overseas patients free of charge.
Economic factors include the consumer expenditure and disposal of income; unemployment and
recruitment, labor cost, and funding of health and social care

Most of the time when you think of the word zombie, you think of a walking corpse that will eat
your face as soon as it gets the chance. What if we thought of zombies as an animal that is

to David Casarett, author of Reanimated Chickens and Zombie Dogs, for over two hundred years,
scientist have pushed relentlessly at life s terminus, trying to find new ways to bring people back

they remain transparent to the works of the art they house (Kimball, 1990). The Yale University Art

Browning Primary Sources
Historians believe they need to find the truth. They make arguments, write papers, and give lecture
on what they are saying is the truth. Historians want to learn what happened. This is important,
because history teaches many lessons. Students of history agree or disagree with historian s
arguments and what they say happened or what is the cause of some event. The best historians are
the ones who write the strongest arguments. To make strong arguments, it s very important to use
strong sources. Sources are either primary or secondary. The primary sources are the original ones,
which date back to the events of that time period. Secondary sources are the arguments of other
historians or anything that talks about primary sources. Choosing the best sources means
understanding what the source is saying and using accurate information to make your own
argument. When historians feel that the existing work fails to mention or inaccurately claims
something that s important. to the historian, they write their own argument. The historian wants to

The Archetypal Hero Journey, J
The archetypal hero journey, Joseph Campbell states, is a typical series of heroic actions. Four
stages form the hero journey: departure, trials, epiphany, and return (the stages do not necessarily
occur consecutive with the listing). Death and resurrection of lifestyle and beliefs, spiritual journey,
and finally rebirth form herojourney s motif. An archetypal hero pattern is the transformation of
the character s conscience through trials and revelations. Lust, fear, and social duties tend to be
the main trials heroes face. Campbell defines a hero as a character who overcomes his trials and

Essay On Veterans Rights
The issue that has been addressed throughout this study is veteran s rights. The issue of veteran s
rights is still being pursued and is near and dear to me. Not only am I a veteran, but I come from
a long line of men and women who have proudly worn the uniform in defense of our nation.
Between the mindset of the American public, to the cases presented before Congress, this is an
ongoing dilemma. Caring for our brothers and sisters in arms is the socially responsible thing to
do. However, many roadblocks must be torn down before this can come to fruition.
Problems Faced
What some the symptoms of veteran s rights look like in regards to how they are addressed, are in

American public does not pay attention to veterans, and this is mostly in part because the issues

The impact on the health system alone will have a dynamic consequences for younger Australians.
Financing this becomes problematic, Australia already spends 9.5 percent of gross domestic
product (GPI) was health care services (Organisation for Economic Co operation and
Development, 2013) and costs will only escalate. The health workforce in 2011 had 3.3 doctors
and 10.1 nurses per 100 000 population however 25 percent of those were over the age of 55 years
(Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development, 2013). Then there is community
expectations on receiving services free or at a very low cost. Not to mentation globalisation which
requires high efficient technology to transmit information internationally and finally government
overregulation.
Ensuring effective and cost efficient health care is not an easy battle however, some pre planning
is required. Similar to superannuation funds, a foundation needs to be established for each
Australian worker, then a percentage of their income should be paid directly into this reserve and
may be drawn against when health care issues arise. This would elevate some of the financing
pressure and community expectations. The Medicare levy tax would still be charged to cover
medical training, research, technology and assist vulnerable Australians.

overview and aim of the band and its EP and a strategy for the potential seven areas involved in
the release of any musical product. Additionally, this plan will produce a timeline and elaborate

five piece band from Utrecht, The Netherlands. Comparing themselves to Two Door Cinema
Club, MGMT and Phoenix, the band uses electronic beats, synths and guitars mixed with pop
songs and edgy hooks to complete their sound (Facebook, 2016). Having won several local
awards including Best Live Act 2014 (3voor12 Utrecht, 2014), supporting The 1975 in the
Netherlands and performing at the Sziget Festival in 2014 (3FM, 2014), Project Bongo s potential

Motivations and Methodology of Mass Murderers Essay
Introduction Mass murder is defined by the FBI as the killing of three or more people in a single
event or in the same day (Petersen Farrington, 2007). Mass murderers are complex and can be
examined by the many factors that regularly appear among them, such as violence precipitating
events, weapon of choice, and mental illnesses. The motivations and methods for committing mass
murderare easily broken down into specific groups, and through the examination of these definitions
and specific cases there is much to learn about the mind of a mass murderer.

The event of mass murder as known today, postal workers going postal and school massacres, has
been emerging as a more regular occurrence throughout the last century (Lester, Stack, Schmidtke,
Schuller Muller, 2005). Starting with the Vietnam War era, there have been an increasing number
of mass murders, which share a causal link to the increased militarization of American Society.
The introduction of semiautomatic weapons in mainstream society gives the opportunity for
explosive and gratuitously violent events such as have been seen in recent years (Hamamoto,
2002). The increase in graphically violent war movies and first person video games, full of violent
images and massive destruction, lend a hand in the building of a society that is hyperaware of war
level violence.
Legal Concerns
The central legal concern associated with mass murder has been gun control. More specifically the
aftermath of Columbine can be examined to show the range of gun control concerns. A result of the
Columbine massacre, the most terrible mass shooting in United States history, was the media
calling for more gun control and identifying too many guns and too little control as the cause of the

What Is The Fashion Of Fashion In The 1960s
60s Fashion in America
The 1960s were a time of big change across the United States of America. Fashion was one of the
most memorable (parts) of the 60s. The 1950s sound was still popular and the waist tight skirts
and clean, sharp look was still worn by many. The style of fashion was new and unfamiliar to the
people who grew up in the 1940s and 50s. One of the most surprising trends was the box dresses
that women wore. They were very short and showed much more skin than the parents of the
teenagers in that era, would have liked. They were used to much more conservative types of clothing
. Fashion evolved, along with the new generation who inspired that fashion. Hairstyles and clothing
changed, due to a new era of icons and state of minds.
Hairstyles in the 50s were much more traditional and looked very conservative. They replicated the
styles of the 1930s and 40s. They had many more curls than the hairstyles of the 60s. The women
wore buffontants and flipped hair. Bouffants had hair above the crown of the head, covering the
ears and women who wore this style usually had shoulder length hair. Another popular women s
style was the flipped hair Usually worn with bouffants, the flipped hairstyle was one where the ends
of the hair were flipped in toward the face. Both hair styles were used in ads for clothes and
products during the 60s, spreading the look across America with the help of icons. Flips and

The Impact Of River Macroinvertebrates On The Chemical...
Literature Review The main purpose of this literature review is to collate information on how
river macroinvertebrates are collected and how the concentrations of phosphorus, nitrogen,
ammonia or BOD in the water relate to the families of macroinvertebrates present. Different
methods have been used to help collect and identify macroinvertebrates and monitor pollution
levels. This review mainly focuses on the kick sampling technique for collecting
macroinvertebrates. It then describes the methods that are used to collect the levels of ammonia,
phosphorus, BOD and nitrogen. Foy et al (2001) wished to access the effectiveness of regulatory
controls on farm pollution using chemical and biological indices of water quality and pollution
statistics. The water quality was tested in 42 streams in the Colebrooke and Upper Bann
catchments in Northern Ireland during 1990 1998. This was a large timescale therefore more
results were collaborated. The method used to collect the samples of invertebrates was kick
sampling, these samples were then taken back to the laboratory to identify them. Using the BMWP
scoring system a score was then given to the macroinvertebrates, relating to how organic pollution
had affected them, with 1 being tolerant and 10 being highly sensitive. To know the pollution
statistics there was recorded incidents on farm pollution assessed between 1987 and 1997, this was
from a relational farm pollution database. The measurements that Foy et al (2001) took were

Comparing Frankenstein And The Fairie Queene
Studying literature is in great part about analyzing the work. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley gives the
power of literacy to the monster in her novel Frankenstein to humanize him as well as to equip him
with a moral compass which would have been difficult for him to pick up on otherwise. The
treasure of literature for Frankensteins monster includes John Milton s Paradise Lostto bring into
question the role of the creator and creation as seen in God and man and Frankenstein and his
seemingly horrific figure, while the use of Edmund Spenser s The Fairie Queene could have been
used to underline the difference between right and wrong.
As a creation made of the parts of man in his image, Frankenstein s monster is an imperfect Adam.

choice but to assume that he is also being punished.
Shelley s humanization of the monster lies in his imperfection and makes the reader question just
why he has been cast aside by humanity. If the reader accepts the fall of man as punishment, for
Adam and Eve s mistake they can see that the monster s creation itself is not for him to be

Volcanic eruptions are too dangerous for us to come close to them and scientists are trying their
best to interpret volcanoes and see them in action so that one day every volcanic eruption can be
avoided. Although we are not scientist we can still see a volcanic eruption ourselves using
chemicals, we can witness as the chemical reacts to each other behaving like lava cascading out of a

Analyzing Willa Cather s My Antonia
Willa Cather really didn t want me to read her letters. And she was hoping you would mind your
own business . This comment stuck out to me so much because it was able to open many different
points of view on My Antonia . We have been briefly discussing what this letter from which this
story was pulled from meant to us. With much of the newly found knowledge this book just got
more interesting. In the upcoming paragraphs I will explain more of what I interpreted.
A very important piece of information that I was given from the second section of this letter was
that Willa Cather did not have a sexuality that fit into the social norm. I believe that her writing this
book was somehow an outlet to let her inner feelings free. In her writing she did not have to be
limited like most women at the time. If you read between the lines in My Antonia you will most
likely find similarities that Cather could not easily show in her day to day life. One ... Show more

No matter her experience her voice would not be heard due mainly to her gender. As she takes
on the view of the story of a young male her voice is noticed. Many of the themes in the story tie
in with where and when Cather grew up. For all we know one or more of the stories might have
actually occurred. Yet we can only come to the conclusion that she did in fact know first hand what
the west was like.
Another role in this book that must be looked at was the theme of immigration. How exactly would
Cather know the struggles of immigrants? I don t exactly know but I can guess it was mainly made
up of acquaintances she meet throughout her life. Also the fact that America was at its prime. As it
was the pioneer era which told others of the exciting opportunities. I can assume that Cather ran into
many immigrants and saw their struggle which inspired her to include in her writing. Either way
she was somewhat knowledgeable on what they

Essay On Art History 6k
The item that I chose for my Art History 6K Project is a ceramic plate made in Egypt, or more
specifically, Fayyoum. The label accompanying the art piece included a year, 2007, which I
assume is the date in which the piece was found. The plate is made of clay, hardened through heat,
and finished with a glossy sealer. The colorscheme of the plate is very bright and colorful giving
off a happy vibe. The ceramic plate itself is an off white color with splashes of blue and green
throughout. Due to the bright color composition, it must ve been used during celebrations of some
sort. Despite not able to feel the plate, I assumed the surface to be rough because the plate was
covered in tiny holes. At first it appeared to be flecks of paint, however,... Show more content on

It could ve been purposefully done, but judging from how uneven and blotchy the color is, it
makes more sense to assume that the area had been worn out. If this is the case then what was
placed there that could have created that mark? And what was the purpose of the brown square in
the middle of the plate? The outline around the square has a lot of depth so I inferred that the
outline was created not through paint but was rather carved out. I thought that the plate could
ve been used for food, however, if it was then there wouldn t be a need for the brown square in
the middle. In general, what was this ceramic plate used for if not for food? Another thing that I
found interesting was that in the back of the plate, there are four moon shaped platform to help
raise the plate. The platform was placed in the middle and in the formation so that it looked like
the corners of a square. I think the reason why the ceramic plate is raised is because it was
probably used to hold something important. This work of art relates to a broader religious context
because the calligraphy used on it reminds me of the calligraphy used in the Qur an that we
discussed about it

Igor Stravinsky Controversy
The Rite of Spring was certainly the most controversial piece of orchestral music. The piece,
composed by Russian Composer Igor Stravinsky, included lots of uncommon musical elements. But
was it really that uncommon? The world changing ballet was so controversial when it debuted in
1913, because it completely contradicted the common rhythmic and harmonic languages of most of
the musicof the time. Stravinsky s music, however, was based off early classical music and other
compositions written before, where these composers were also accused of composing controversial
music, plus Stravinsky s early life experiences impacted his music. Le Sacre du Printemps (The
original name) was one of the most controversial ballets in history. The 33 minute... Show more

Johann Sebastian Bach also wrote lots of controversial music. Some of his keyboard words
included bended notes to resemble a specific string or woodwind technique. This was executed as
too chromatic and dissonant to most people and the church. At the time, this was uncommon and
unaccepted from a baroque composer, but clearly it wasn t thought of so bad for a while because
Bach s death marked the end of the Baroque era. Beethoven broke many rules too. His ninth
symphony which was premiered in 1824 was nowhere near as unconventional of The Rite of Spring
, however, at the time of Beethoven, writing a symphony that was over an hour long, included a
full chorus and vocal soloists, and was expressive and romantic as it was, was in fact
unconventional for his time. Beethoven s music was so rebelliously emotional, the last seven years
of his life marked the beginning of the Romantic era. This meant that Beethoven s music was so
influential and unique he started the world s brand new norm of music in 1820, when the Romantic
Era started. Stravinsky s composition took place at the end of the romantic era and went into the
20th century era. It is not coincidental that these composers who were shunned at the time ended up
being so revolutionary and influential that a new musical age

  • 2. Nonexistent Knight Postmodernism Essay The term postmodernism is used a lot with the analysis of characters of The Nonexistent Knight and the story. Postmodernism is the acceptance that the world lacks true creativity, that reality is fragmented, and the belief that all communication is shaped by cultural bias, myth, metaphor, and political content. So basically, it is the realization of the world being biased and lack of true creativity. An example of this would be Gurduloo and how he is the opposite of what society wants him to be. He is seen as a postmodernist character due to his opposite reactions to what society has taught us to follow and be. A real life example of this is that humans aren t creators in the eyes of Christians, only Godcan create. Humans can be influenced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I must avenge my father, you know (Calvino 16) to shows us how society plays a role in their lives and how they are built to believe a specific ideal and have to follow it. We can also see how authority is dealt with each character. Some authority figures are the emperor Charlemagne, codes of chivalry, fathers or even religion. All of these authority figures equal to the ideals of society, which contributes to the characters ways of thinking and how they perceive other things like truth and identity. For example, Torrismund was the only character who questioned Agilulf s validity in saying things, Non sense! All tales... Neither he exists nor the things he does nor what he says, nothing, nothings at all ... (Calvino 69), yet he still says and believes in the knights of the Holy Grail because it s what society has made him think that is normal. In the same fashion Gurduloo has a perspective on life that is outside of the modern perspectives. That is why certain people can define him as being insane, because he chooses to dwell outside of society. Raimbaut says to Gurduloo Why don t you make him realize that all isn t soup and put an end to this saraband of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Caliber War On Various Internet Forums And On Social Media With the recent announcement by the Federal Bureau of Investigation that they will be going back to the 9mm cartridge, there has been a rekindling of the age old caliber war on various internet forums and on social media sites such as FaceBook. It so happens that this new round of my caliber is better than your caliber comes at a time when I am making preparations to attend the 2015 Realistic Advanced Combatives Seminar hosted by Cabelas in Dundee, Michigan and taught by Dave Spaulding and Sgt. Charles E. Humes. I attended the RACS training conference for the first time in March of 2014 and handgun stopping power was a subject that was discussed quite heavily at that conference. The result of these heavy projectiles fired at such great velocity create not only a hole in the target, but in targets such as the human body create a wide area around the wound itself known as a temporary wound channel. This temporary wound channel is caused by hydrostatic shock. Hydrostatic shock can produce incapacitating effects much more quickly than blood loss alone. A shotgun firing buckshot, fires multiple projectiles that impact the body all at once and cause a shock overload to the system. This shock overload is very effective at incapacitating a human being. A shotgun firing slugs that are huge chunks of lead and so heavy they are weighted in ounces rather than grains has the double effect of a massive wound channel coupled a with shock overload. In contrast, bullets fired from a handgun must actually come into contact with the adversary s tissue or organs in order to disrupt them. This means that in order for bullets fired from a handgun to physically incapacitate the target we must hit something important, such as the spinal column, heart, brain or major blood vessels. In essence, we must be more accurate with a pistol then with a rifle and that is a mighty tall order. So, why do we carry the pistol? The answer is, we carry a handgun simply because it is portable not because it is super duper dealer of damage and death. Common sense would tell us that a bigger bullet is a better bullet. But, bigger bullets have greater felt recoil and since most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Still Life With Golden Breams By Francisco De... Many artists through time have used art to express emotion or a standpoint, and Francisco de Goya can surely be classified under this category of artist. Famously known for his controversial relationship with the Spanish government the audience may conclude that many of his painting will have a connection to the dispute. For example, in Still Life with Golden Breams most people may see it as a well made still life of lifeless fish but in reality, it holds a deeper meaning. For instance, when someone gets the opportunity to observe this composition they could say that the inability for the Golden Breams to close their eyes reminds the viewer of how the fish were ones alive. That is to say Goya probably made this still life to symbolize... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Texture and mass are also very evident in this artwork. Francisco de Goya used texture and value to his advantage to create a realistic figure that contains mass. The illusion of mass is so well portrayed that it is almost as if the viewer could reach in and grab a fish out of the canvas and hold it like a merchant in a fish market. In addition, the way the fish are stacked on top of each other renders an organic rhythm that flows easily. In other words, the Golden Breams do not look as if they were in an artificial potion rather it looks natural. Overall, Goya used atmospheric perspective to create the sense of proximity of the fish to the viewer by modifying color, value, and texture. The overall style of Francisco de Goya was miscellaneous since it evolved and changed through his careers as an artist, however, his message to portray his standpoint and feeling has been there since the beginning. Goya s brush strokes would vary from slow and delicate to raid and aggressive depending on his work. In addition, his use of contrast would deviate from time as well but in his most noticeable artwork he would highlight the main subject and darken the background. The way Goya used light and darkness ended up created a unique technique where the artist would force the audience to look at a specific part of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One collection of myths which has exercised a powerful grip on the minds of many, and contributed to feelings of inferiority on the part of large numbers of pure or mixed descendants of Native Americans in the region of northern Mesoamerica,2 has to do with the conquest of the Aztec Empire by HernanCortes and his followers in the early sixteenth century. Both decisions were based on his ignorance of the actual power of the Triple Alliance and the confederation of Tlaxcallan.[7] Cortes underestimated these two because of his early experiences in Mesoamerica. However, they were able to win these battles thanks to the superiority of their weapons and military tactics. The outcome of these skirmishes was quickly known! by the Triple Alliance. As a result, when Cortes arrived in the region of Totonacapan, this alliance opted in favor of a strategy of deterrence rather than war. Envoys sent by Tenochtitlan established contact with Cortes and presented him with a series of lavish gifts that were meant to indicate the might of the Triple Alliance.[8] However, the strategy backfired because Cortes was unable to grasp the symbolism of the gifts and interpreted them as a sign of weakness. Therefore, while both policies did not share many similarities, they did have their key differences. For instance, during the rule of Otto Von Bismarck, Germanyhad a strong and well developed foreign policy. For instance, Wilhelm II s aims through use of foreign policies was to use Weltpolitik policies that would make Germany have a place in the sun , and also known as a respected power during the course of World War I. In order to accomplish these goals, Wilhelm II believed that Germany needed to expand their territory in order to gain colonies (so that Germany would also have a voice in world politics), and that Germany needed to have a powerful navy. In Scientific Management, managers are responsible to think and workers do. Frederick Winslow Taylor (1856 1915) develops the Principles of Time and Motion Study, which leads to a conclusion that certain people have a higher work efficiency compared to the others. In his means, cooperation is to do what workers are told to do without asking questions or making suggestions. (as cited in Miller Form, 1924). Human Relation Management was founded by Professor Elton Mayo (1880 1949). During the industrial revolution in early 1920 s, Mayo initiated the Human Relation Theory of Management. A psychologist, Henry C. Link (as cited in Miller Form, 1924, p. 657) relates that the ideal employment method is receiving applicants from all kinds at one end, sort, interview, and record them, before labelling them with the righteous job. Mayo introduced an experiment, the Hawthorne Studies, to look into the impact of working environment on the productivity of workers. The language barrier is the biggest challenge and hurdle of most people whom their English is a second language. Growing up in a family with parents that only speak another language could be viewed very similarly to a double edged sword. This challenge with society forces people to learn the English language. Although there a lot of difficulties with the second language, eventually the transition between both languages would become easier by time and more practice. Starting to be able to comprehend the English language is the best way overcomes this barrier. Although these challenges were not easy to overcome, persistence, dedication and hard work would facilitate everything. Despite the fact that language is considered the biggest barrier, culture comes as a second harder barrier in means of communication. However, Malcolm X defied the usual curve of religious doctrine and embraced what he felt was right for him and those who shared his views. In his autobiography, Malcolm X abandoned atheism to become a follower of the Nation of Islam(NOI) and later, he ended up following Eastern Islam. In the Autobiography of Malcolm X, Malcolm s views and his idealism is derived from his practice of Islam and his will to fight for the rights of African Americans also come from the same base. The theme of religion is introduced in the autobiography during Malcolm s time in the state prison of Massachusetts. While in prison, he started to study books in a small library. Later in 1948, Malcolm was moved to Norfolk Prison. There was little violence in this prison and inmates could debate and study freely. While in prison, Malcolm studied many books such as religion, history, literature, linguistics, and biology. Malcolm first heard about the Nation of Islam from his home when Reginald, his brother requested him to do so, and this became his first step into full conversion to Islam. Reginald told him about a spiritual leader called Elijah Muhammad who preached against the evils of white people and compared them as the devils. PEST analyses are external factors and when legal and environment are added it becomes PESTLE analyses. SWOT analyses at the other hand are internal factors. The above mentioned internal factors are really important to the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust (RUH). Political factors including factors like government policies and legislation drive change in the health and social care sector. The political factors are known to have influence on the structure of the organization, the professional practice, the distribution of services and the quality of services. An example of a recent government policy on the NHS, is the introduction of charges to overseas patients introduced by the British government led by the Tory party. The introduction of semiautomatic weapons in mainstream society gives the opportunity for explosive and gratuitously violent events such as have been seen in recent years (Hamamoto, 2002). Literature Review The main purpose of this literature review is to collate information on how river macroinvertebrates are collected and how the concentrations of phosphorus, nitrogen, ammonia or BOD in the water relate to the families of macroinvertebrates present. Different methods have been used to help collect and identify macroinvertebrates and monitor pollution levels. This review mainly focuses on the kick sampling technique for collecting macroinvertebrates. It then describes the methods that are used to collect the levels of ammonia, phosphorus, BOD and nitrogen. Foy et al (2001) wished to access the effectiveness of regulatory controls on farm pollution using chemical and biological indices of water quality and pollution statistics. The water quality was tested in 42 streams in the Colebrooke and Upper Bann catchments in Northern Ireland during 1990 1998. This was a large timescale therefore more results were collaborated. The method used to collect the samples of invertebrates was kick sampling, these samples were then taken back to the laboratory to identify them. Using the BMWP scoring system a score was then given to the macroinvertebrates, relating to how organic pollution had affected them, with 1 being tolerant and 10 being highly sensitive. How exactly would Cather know the struggles of immigrants? I don t exactly know but I can guess it was mainly made up of acquaintances she meet throughout her life. Also the fact that America was at its prime. As it was the pioneer era which told others of the exciting opportunities. I can assume that Cather ran into many immigrants and saw their struggle which inspired her to include in her writing. Either way she was somewhat knowledgeable on what they ... • 40. Essay On Art History 6k The item that I chose for my Art History 6K Project is a ceramic plate made in Egypt, or more specifically, Fayyoum. The label accompanying the art piece included a year, 2007, which I assume is the date in which the piece was found. The plate is made of clay, hardened through heat, and finished with a glossy sealer. The colorscheme of the plate is very bright and colorful giving off a happy vibe. The ceramic plate itself is an off white color with splashes of blue and green throughout. Due to the bright color composition, it must ve been used during celebrations of some sort. Despite not able to feel the plate, I assumed the surface to be rough because the plate was covered in tiny holes. At first it appeared to be flecks of paint, however,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It could ve been purposefully done, but judging from how uneven and blotchy the color is, it makes more sense to assume that the area had been worn out. If this is the case then what was placed there that could have created that mark? And what was the purpose of the brown square in the middle of the plate? The outline around the square has a lot of depth so I inferred that the outline was created not through paint but was rather carved out. I thought that the plate could ve been used for food, however, if it was then there wouldn t be a need for the brown square in the middle. In general, what was this ceramic plate used for if not for food? Another thing that I found interesting was that in the back of the plate, there are four moon shaped platform to help raise the plate. The platform was placed in the middle and in the formation so that it looked like the corners of a square. I think the reason why the ceramic plate is raised is because it was probably used to hold something important. This work of art relates to a broader religious context because the calligraphy used on it reminds me of the calligraphy used in the Qur an that we discussed about it ... • 41. Igor Stravinsky Controversy The Rite of Spring was certainly the most controversial piece of orchestral music. The piece, composed by Russian Composer Igor Stravinsky, included lots of uncommon musical elements. But was it really that uncommon? The world changing ballet was so controversial when it debuted in 1913, because it completely contradicted the common rhythmic and harmonic languages of most of the musicof the time. Stravinsky s music, however, was based off early classical music and other compositions written before, where these composers were also accused of composing controversial music, plus Stravinsky s early life experiences impacted his music. Le Sacre du Printemps (The original name) was one of the most controversial ballets in history. The 33 minute... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johann Sebastian Bach also wrote lots of controversial music. Some of his keyboard words included bended notes to resemble a specific string or woodwind technique. This was executed as too chromatic and dissonant to most people and the church. At the time, this was uncommon and unaccepted from a baroque composer, but clearly it wasn t thought of so bad for a while because Bach s death marked the end of the Baroque era. Beethoven broke many rules too. His ninth symphony which was premiered in 1824 was nowhere near as unconventional of The Rite of Spring , however, at the time of Beethoven, writing a symphony that was over an hour long, included a full chorus and vocal soloists, and was expressive and romantic as it was, was in fact unconventional for his time. Beethoven s music was so rebelliously emotional, the last seven years of his life marked the beginning of the Romantic era. This meant that Beethoven s music was so influential and unique he started the world s brand new norm of music in 1820, when the Romantic Era started. Stravinsky s composition took place at the end of the romantic era and went into the 20th century era. It is not coincidental that these composers who were shunned at the time ended up being so revolutionary and influential that a new musical age ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
