Why Teacher Fails Essay
Mean Shean Wong
ENG 104
29 April 2013
Why teachers fail
For ancient time, teachers have played an important role in society. Behind every successful
person, there is a teacher. Nowadays, both parents are too busy earning money because of the
high living expenses, so the teacher is expected to build a strong moral character and provide
emotional support for the students. To achieve this, by the definition of John Lembo who is the
author of Why Teachers Fail, has four qualities: (1) he can engage students in an open and trusting
relationship by his capacity to listen and accept; (2) he is skilled in the use of different diagnostic,
planning, facilitative and evaluative procedure and is knowledgeable about their limitations; (3) ...

He tells Finn that he should not be playing keyboard because he thinks that he is not cool enough.
Finn encourages him and fills him with confidence. Therefore, Lawrence plays an important role
the band. For another example, when Tomika, who is one of the backup singers, refuses to go up
to stage because she is afraid that the audiences will be laughing at her obesity, Finn responds,
Tomika... Ok, you ve heard of Aretha Franklin right? She s a big lady. But when she sings, she
blows people s minds! Everyone wants to party with Aretha! And, you know who else has a
weight problem? He even uses himself as an example to encourage Tomika by saying that, when I
get up there and start doing my thing, people worship me! Because I m sexy, and chubby, man.
Therefore, Tomika gains confidence from Finn. Teachers encouragement means a lot to their
students, since both parents are spending a long time at work, and as Lembo states in his essay
empathetic listening is perhaps the most necessary condition for facilitating the development of an
open and trusting relationship. Finn proves that by encouraging Lawrence to continue playing
keyboard for the band. Finn also meets the second criteria of Lembo: he is skilled in the use of
different diagnostic, planning, facilitative and evaluative procedure and is knowledgeable about
their limitations. He assigns various jobs to his students by analyzing everyone s abilities

Thesis About Appeasement
Appeasement is the policy of acceding to the demands of a potentially hostile nation in the hope
of maintaining peace. This is done by giving in to demands of a leader in order to satisfy their
short term goals and avoid conflict. It was a policy used by the leaders of France and Britain
with Hitler in the 1930s because they hoped that if they showed understanding and gave Hitler
what he asked for, there would be no reason for fighting or war to break out. Some of the things
followed for appeasement that the Western Leaders did were, When Hitler reoccupied the
Rhineland, France did nothing, France and Britain did not oppose his rebuilding the German
military. Britain, in fact, signed a treaty with Germany allowing them to exceed Treaty of Versailles

Hitler realized that the French and British Leaders were scared of his power and also of war.
Hitler needed more living space for the German people and he thought of taking over Poland. Hitler
began planning the invasion of Poland. After World War I
, Poland s army was relatively weak and
ill equipped compared to Germany. To aid in its defense, Poland had formed military alliances
with Great Britain and France. Massing their armies along the Polish border, the Germans
staged a fake Polish attack on August 31, 1939. Using this as a pretext for war, German forces
flooded across the border the next day. On September 3, Great Britain and France issued a
warning to Germany to end the fighting. When no reply was received, both nations declared war.
Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia and Poland before World War 2 but then from 1939 and June 1941
the German army invaded and occupied many countries like Netherlands, Belgium,
Luxembourg,France, Denmark,Yugoslavia, Greece, Norway and Western Poland. In Source C

Essay On Soccer In America
When you travel to Madrid, Spain you look around and you see soccer, otherwise known as
futbol there, everywhere possible. On the day of a soccer game, the streets suddenly empty, the
stadiums fill, and people everywhere else sit by their televisions and root on their favorite
soccer club. As they cheer on their teams, they understand the game and get into the game like
one would do for football in America. When you travel 4500 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, it s
a whole different lifestyle. America s flip their TV on and scroll through the ESPN and sports
section and see nothing but basketball, baseball, football, and occasionally a hockey game. If you
are a fan of soccer though it s obvious, you aren t going to find anything on TV having to do with
it. Why must soccer be so overlooked in the United States? Why is the world s most popular sport
so cared about so little in America? If you are talking about sports in a normal American setting,
teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cowboys, or Lakers will most usually come up. These are
obviously the most common sports teams in the US today, but why don t we hear about teams like
LA Galaxy, Real Madrid, or Manchester United? This is simply because soccer isn t respected in

America, it gets a grade A. But for the future of soccer in America, the grade is incomplete. If
you want a prediction, it seems like the term paper will be turned in and it will get a failing
grade. The New York Times states. Zero, says Frank Deford, America s preeminent sportswriter,
when asked about soccer s chances as a spectator sport in his country. It has zero chance. Every
chance it had, it failed. I can t conceive of any set of circumstances that would make Americans
want to take an interest. People have zero faith in the sport of soccer ever becoming a

Research Paper On State Lotteries
State Lotteries: Take a Second Look From the time the Europeans first landed on the Atlantic
shore, lotteries have been a part of the American society. According to Will Spink, most states
are currently operating a state lottery despite its bleak history in the U.S. (Spink 1). Since 1983,
North Carolina has introduced lottery bills in the legislature every year (NC Christian 15). North
Carolina Governor, Mike Easley, favors a lottery for increasing revenues for education (Analysis
2). However lucrative state lotteries appear on the surface, they create even more moral and
financial difficulties for citizens, and this should encourage states to look at other means of
resources instead of legalized gambling. In a lottery fact sheet... Show more content on

Governor Easley proposes that lottery taxes will supplement and not replace other taxes that
support education (Analysis 2). Other states have had the exact opposite to occur. In California,
ninety percent of school superintendents believe it had an adverse effect on their getting other
funds for their schools. In 1987, a study was conducted in Illinois that gave validity to what many
lottery opponents claim happens in many cases: While the lottery money to education increases,
the total education funding in the state budget increases at a lower rate than it has in previous
years (Spink 3). Money magazine s study proved that states with lotteries designate a lower
percentage of their total budget to education than do states without a lottery. However, proponents
could point to the fact that lottery states on an average spend more on education per student, than
non lottery states (NC Insider 2). Research has difficulty proving or disproving social
consequences of lotteries. A survey by Gam Anon, the family counterpart of Gamblers
Anonymous, did reveal that ten percent of its members abused their children, and fifty percent of
the spouses reported physical and verbal abuse. Crimes like burglary, larceny, and auto theft
increase by an average of three percent in states that implement a state lottery. Sixty percent of
heavy gamblers admit to some sort of criminal activity within the past year . (Economic Facts 4).

Here in Indonesia we can easily find gudang garam cigarette, since people here are enthusiast with
cigarette they sell it everywhere. We can found it in the small minimarket, supermarket, mall ,and
etc. There are also some posters across the street in Indonesia about gudang garam. Even though the
gudang garam wrote about the disadvantages about smoking but, still the consumer of gudang
garam is the most higher compare to another brand of cigarettes.
Thesis statement
As we know the number of smoking rates in Russia is high, so I believe importing gudang garam
cigarette in Russia will be successful because they have much demand there. This is because they
rarely seen clove cigarette and the climate there are cold, so people are likely to smoke to warm

The s Compensation System, A Dual Structured, Job Based Plan
Previously in Phase I, FastCat s compensation system was identified as a dual structured, job
based plan. Job evaluation points were used to measure the values for each of the FastCat jobs.
Each job was assigned these evaluation points based on the five compensable factors discussed
in Phase I. The assigned points are used to create a fair compensation system and remain
internally aligned. FastCat s goal is to match the market, or pay the average level for similar jobs
within the market rate. In Phase II of FastCat s compensation system, a dual focus on the base pay
and providing incentives for their employees was recommended. It is ideal for FastCat to match the
market to maintain their competitiveness. This pay policy is most suitable because it will
maximize FastCat s ability to attract and keep good employees, while still being within the
company s ability to pay its expenses. Also, this pay structure will link pay to performance. This
will assist FastCat with improving their employee engagement, motivation, rewarding
performances, and increasing productivity. Balancing the profitability of the company with the pay
structure of their employees will greatly regulate the future success of FastCat. Strategy on
External Competitiveness The overall compensation strategy for FastCat consists of three aspects:
pay level, pay mix, and how to integrate internal and external structure. The pay level generally
refers to the average pay of the entire company. The choice

Why A Restaurant Should Be Paid At Home
Paying the bill is the least exciting part of dining out. After eating that wonderful meal, it is hard
to fork over any amount of money. Whether the destination of choice is McDonalds or Red
Lobster, it is still difficult to dispense money towards a meal that could have potentially been
replicated at home. Normally, the bill comes with an additional feethat adds on to the total cost of
the food. Gratuity is a way customers show their appreciation or disapproval of their server. It is a
direct reflection on how the customers perceived the performance of their servers. Some restaurants
have made a transition to including gratuity into the bill. Essentially taking away the grading scale
of the waiter or waitress. Tipping a server should be the decision of the consumer not the decision of
the restaurant. In the United States the minimum wageis $7.25 an hour, however for workers relying
on gratuity their wage drops to $2.13... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Depending on the impact the server makes most likely influences the amount of money the
customer is willing to tip the server. By having a tip system, a competitive environment is created
throughout the restaurant. Famous chef, Andrea Volpi, stated Gratuity is a direct reflection of the
guests experience with their server. Without the service included policy, the servers have more
incentive to give great service which, in turn, may increase their gratuity. Andrea Volpi generates
several points that support the claim of straying away from a check with a service fee. Servers are
not motivated when they are receiving minimum wage, the quality of their work decreases and the
satisfaction of the customer declines as well. Restaurants should comprehend the fact that by
having a tip incentive the service provided by their waiters and waitresses is severely different
then when a service fee is factored into the

RE: Recommendation for Establishing National Fire Services System
Background and Summary
Now the government is pushing ahead with decentralization in order to strengthen the autonomy of
local government and enhance regional competitiveness. One of main contents of decentralization
is the reallocation of administrative affairs of the national and local governments among the State
and local governments so that the functions of the State and local governments become harmonious.
In this regard the Ministry of Public Administration and Security (hereinafter, MOPAS) asserts that
it is more efficient that the fire services related to the welfare of the ... Show more content on

In addition, the necessity of implementing the fire services at the central government level has been
raised because fire services are directly connected with the safety of the people. It is the most basic
obligation of the State assigned by the Constitution to strive for the protection of the life and body
of people. In other words, fire services have the nature of national affairs rather than provincial
governments affairs.
There are three options with regard to fire services system reorganization: switching to national
fire services system, financial supporting for provincial governments fire services budget, and
switching to local fire services system. The most desirable option is switching to national fire
services system, considering the nature of fire services, efficiency, and ensuring the safety of
people through the effective response to disasters. According to article 34 of the Constitution of
the Republic of Korea, the State has a duty to protect citizens from disasters. Unpredictable
disasters require proactive responses of central government due to difficulty in coping with
disasters with provincial governments fire services force. As we have already experienced in the
Sewol Ferry sinking, we need to establish strong and unitary command system to secure the safety
of people from disasters. Thus I recommend switching to national fire services system.

Simply do nothing is not appropriate in the current situation given the

1.0 Introduction: Telephone signals are controlled through the process of digital switches. Every
wire a telephone has two connections, which is known as input and outputs signals with a binary
combination. In this lab, the overall purpose of the circuit was to build a telephone switch that
would function which connects to one subscriber to another. What the circuitdoes is that it gives an
input signal using four subscribers which is connected with an output signal using 8 subscribers.
As the input signal known as MUX and output signal known as DeMUX, the wiring of the signals
are displayed of page 11 known as the Tekron Logic Lab sheet. After completing the circuit, to
determine if each input signal is connected to an output signal, the lamp input, S1 and S0, with the

used to build a 4 input MUX as shown in gates in figure 3. The 4 input MUX circuit in the perlab
uses the design of three dual 2 input AND NOR gates and five NOT gates. The figure 3 shows
how a 4 input MUX could be constructed through the use of three two input MUX s. For a four
input MUX, a combination of two binary values such as 00, 01, 10, and 11 were the addresses.
A schematic of the dialer is given. The dialer was used to send signals through the MUX and
DeMUX. On the Tektron logic board, 52, 53 and 54 contain very useful gate considering I used
them instead of 2 input gates, with N10, 11 and 12 were also used for not inverter. The inerter

avoided saving multiple wires to required to connect each gate together. As shown below in figure

Big Mama refuses to become offended and does not allow the marriage to fall apart. The
difference between Maggie and Big Mama is that although Big Mama has a very hard marriage,
she has had children and served her husband well. A good wifes role was to serve her husband s
comfort and know her place. The man was the master of the house, and therefore it was
inappropriate for the woman to complain to her husband and talk about her problems. Listening to
the man was important because his conversation topics were the most important. A problem
Maggie has is that although she wants to be an ideal wife and mother, she does not carry out all
parts of the expectation. She is stubborn and against to taking into account what Brick wants, and
she continuously complains and fights with him. Big Mama on the other hand is a piteous
character in that she is so desperate to stay away from problems and argument that she embarrasses
herself in order to avoid them. This is why, although Maggie and Big Mama share

2) Where do you see yourself professionally in 5 years?
In the past, I have volunteered with a variety of organizations such as Rebuild Joplin Head Start,
as well as local nursing homes. Volunteering locally has allowed me to see and understand the
prevalence of large scale problems existing within my own community and has encouraged me to
want to solve local issues as a route towards my career in nonprofit work. For instance, with the
Cross Generational Sharing program I worked to develop, the Nursing Home Law Center came out
with a statistic stating that over 50% of senior nursing home residents do not have family support
and may never have someone visit them. As a result, I wanted to provide the residents with a
communication outlet they might enjoy, as well as encourage activities where students could build
relationships with the residents. Seeing the smiles the smiles volunteers could bring to their lives

common goal.

The State And State Sovereignty
Introduction This paper discusses the crucial issue of electoral systems and their peculiar utility
to the effective representation in the national legislature (and even the executive) of the diverse
interests within the state. This discussion is in no way novel as it has been one of the most age
old and fundamental questions in the study of politics. Controversially, it can be said that before
the question of how the state and state sovereignty (popularly led by John Locke and Thomas
Hobbes) gained traction, the question of who must govern the state and how that governor must
be chosen had already enjoyed some dissection. Plato s classical concept of the Philosopher King
for instance, buttresses the latter assertion. To Plato, the reins of supreme power in the state had
to be given to an authority that wielded an appreciable grasp of philosophy. To him, if a state
wanted to choose a leader that could best ensure the wellbeing of all, that person must be a
philosopher as the philosopher would know the interests of the people and pursue it accordingly.
Plato also suggested that the Philosopher King had to surround himself with wise men for the
purposes of seeking counsel. Aristotle criticized Plato s theory and doubted that it was viable for
one man to know of the interests of all and also to be entrusted with so much power but would not
abuse it. This conversation that began thousands of years ago has recorded succinct inputs from
many other thinkers and scholars. In

The Social and Cultural Life of Americans during the Cold War
The threat of nuclear war in the 1950 s was real and was one that was on the mind nearly every
person in both the United States and the United Kingdom. After the end of the Second World War
the world can be seen to be split into two sides, the East and the West, Communism and
Democracy. After the Second World War the Soviet Union became paranoid with the West as well
as the United States become paranoid of the Communist East, and after the Soviets had made their
first nuclear bomb this created massive friction between the NATO alliance and the Soviet Union
and the eastern bloc. Only after the soviet union had obtained the hydrogen bomb and began to

This sense of paranoia that can also be accredited to the culture or nuclear preparedness. Families

Forgiveness In Smoke Signals
The film Smoke Signals shows the process of forgiveness and how hard it can be to forgive.
Viewers see Victor, challenged by two people who force him to rethink his self concept and also

statements that make us think he is not. In one flashback scene where his father asks him who his

Examples Of Passion In King Lear
Practice can make things perfect, but it is the passion that persuades them. In King Lear, Lear s
first phase of development is about his wild enthusiasm (passion). First and foremost of the play,
Lear enters his castle and begins to discuss the division of Britain between his daughters: Goneril,
Regan, and Cordelia. Lear says that he will transfer his throne, but whoever expresses greater
amount of their affection shall get the largest bounty; Which of you shall we say doth loveus most?
(1.1.52). While Goneril and Regan succeed in their flattery; Lear s energetic love is destroyed in
light of the fact that Cordelia did not exaggerate her love towards her father. This outcomes in King

In King Lear, the theme of nature and storm echoes Lear s internal turmoil and madness. In the
meantime, the storm symbolizes the marvellous power of nature, which compels the powerless
ruler to perceive his own mortality. The chaos also symbolizes the political confusion that has
overwhelmed Britain. One of the points that relate to the theme of storm is Lear s cruel nature. In
Act 1, Lear arrives at the Duke s (Albany) castle. After a while, Goneril comes in search for Lear
and tells him that if he has to remain in her royal residence, he must lessen the number of his
knights. Lear enrages again (continuation of anger from Oswald s misbehaviour) and unfortunately

Odette s Swan Lake
On the exposed hillsides of the Tsagayan Formation located in Kundur, Russia, a team of
paleontologists discovered an almost complete skeleton of a hadrosaurid showing an extensive
infection spreading into the shoulders, seemingly stemming from a repaired, but misfigured,
fracture in her left front leg. Another piece left behind shows faintly scarred over skin if looked at
closely. Surrounding fossils include turtles, protoceratops, and crocodiles. This specimen,
discovered to be an Olorotitan, which means giant swan, named so for their longer than normal

Instead of retreating to her own herd with her disfigured and still painful leg, she followed other
species of dinosaurs which she could keep up with. A small herd of protoceratops, goat sized

others such as metasequoia with gnarled bark.
Notwithstanding how peaceful recent weeks were, Odette s youthful days would soon be over.
The inflammation, pain, and a recently developed fever had slowed her down from the typical

Timothy W. V. Rochester School District Essay
Timothy W. V. Rochester School District
Abstract
The provision of resources to handicapped children is subject to a wide variety of federal and state
laws and statutes. However, due the varied and spectacular range of disabilities and combination of
disabilities it is often difficult to easily decide who should receive benefits and who should not.
Often debated both within the court system, and without, is the subject of whether the child with a
severe disability can actually benefit from the services and resources being allocated to that student.
Timothy W. V. Rochester School District addresses just that issue referred to as Zero Reject.

The Case
Timothy W., Plaintiff, Appellant, v.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ruling primarily concerned the schools responsibility to maximize student achievement and
was more focused on the level of services provided rather than the exclusion of benefits due to lack
of benefit. (United States Court Of Appeals, 1989) The Rowley case ultimately provided a basic
floor of opportunity and with regard to handicapped children specifically states that ... [t]he Act
requires special educational services for children regardless of the severity of their handicap, ...
and [t]he Act requires participating States to educate a wide spectrum of handicapped children,
from the marginally hearing impaired to the profoundly retarded and palsied... (United States
Court Of Appeals, 1989) Although Robert Walczak and Karen Walczak V. Florida Union Free
School District and Maureen Flaherty produced a ruling that a child should be placed in a program
that provides for educational advancement it does not prescribe that a child must show ability to
advance before services are rendered.
The Impact
This case set the precedent for zero reject as an accepted policy, currently without substantial
debate, for all children covered under disability statute and legislation. As such, children with
severe disabilities who are perceived to be uneducable due to the severity of their condition are not
withheld the educational services granted their peers of lesser disability. The ability to receive and
benefit from the education provided is not a factor

Cervical Stenosis Case Study Essay
The patient is a fifty six year old male who was admitted on 10/3/16. His reason for admission
was his involvement in a motor vehicle accident where his car was t boned by another vehicle.
Upon arrival to the emergency department, his chief complaint was his inability to detect
sensation from the nipple line down, and his inability to move his extremities. He was otherwise
alert, oriented and able to breathe on his own. After an assessment confirmed his inability to feel
anything from the chest down, a portable x ray of his chest was ordered, but this did not show any
acute findings. Multiple computed tomography scans were then ordered for his head, cervical
spine, abdomen and pelvis, chest and thoracic spine; but all of these scans resulted in no acute
findings. However, a computed tomography scan of the lumbar spine did show spinal stenosis
secondary to disc protrusion, and magnetic resonance imaging scans were then ordered for the
cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. The magnetic resonance scans showed multiple compression
fractures from the C3 to C5 vertebrae, with ligament injuries from C5 to C7, bruising of the
spinous process of C6, mass bone bruising and soft tissue injuries at C3 and C4 with edema,
severe spinal stenosis with cord compression at C3 and C4, and cord contusion at T2. The patient

The day in, day out struggle of scratching an existence out of the hood can instill in one an

inner cities have birthed some of the greatest visionary talent the music industry has ever seen.
Those who struggle to make it out seldom succeed, but the ones with the will to do so possess a
certain spark that drives them to unimaginable heights. Pauleon is one such artist destined for
greatness. Growing up in the projects of downtown New Orleans, the young rapper and lyricist was
exposed to the rhythms of the street at a young age. Even at that early stage, the small statured and

Research Paper:
The American Prairie A Known Wonder
By: Avani Pammidimukkala #20 and
Tanvi Prem #24
Due Date: May 26th, 2016
Introduction When people think of the American Prairie, they think of a dull, and grassy full
biome. But, the American Prairie is an extremely fascinating biome. At first glance, this grassy
biome may look really dull and boring, but if you look deeper into it and feel nature playing its
daily roles in this prairie around you, then you will see how unique this biome is.
Location
The American Prairie is usually located at mid latitudes, such as the middle of North America.
Covered with grasses and numerous wild flowers, this area of land is huge. On the American
prairie, trees grow that well, due to the lack of not too much rain. But, there are still some trees,
and if they are there, they are regularly scattered very far apart. The American Prairie is located
from the Great Plains to southern Texas and Mexico that forms an area that looks like a triangle.

Currently, this biome is experiencing a lot of human impact that affects the environment greatly.
The increased agricultural use of soil has created erosion, and its quality is going down. This is
causing the Bison and Pronghorn that live on the prairie to become almost extinct. The American
Prairie grassland is disappearing due to dividing up the land for farming and urban development.
Dividing up the land for farming is bad because the animals of the grasslands don t have any way
to move around. Prairie animals are also being endangered. When the prairie grassland is converted
into cropland, it reduces the food source for many wild animals. This can lead to migration or
possibly the starvation of the animals. Hundreds of animals have been hunted for valuable body
parts. Also, bison have been hunted for their meat. This caused animals to near extinction. Humans
have also done much more damage to this biome,

Male And Female Rapper Through Their Music
Male vs. Female rapper through their music Rap music is really popular to us, young people,
and sometimes adults, too. In my opinion, I think that rap is a way to allow all of the rappers to
express themselves, their voices, their experience, and their feeling from their life. And in some
other people opinion, they also describe rap music as the story or the voice of the streets.
According to a music articles The birth of Rap: A Look Back from NPR.org website, rap music
was born and began to develop in the middle of year 1970s. They are firstly formed and played
by the Black communities, and then slowly spread out to the world. In rap world, at first they are
only male rappers who use music to express themselves and their pain towards the world. Then,
women also began to rap to be able to express their thoughts more and more. Female and male
rapper are sharing the same purpose of express themselves through their songbut they are different
in the way they use their lyrics, the subject they choose to rap on and the feeling they express to
their fans and their songs listeners.
Female and male rappers are separate themselves when they come to choose their lyrics to rap. I
would say that female rappers are most likely less using negative words to describe thing or
someone else than the male rappers. According to the article From Fly Girls To Bitches and Hos
by Joan Morgan, she stated that male rapper is usually use the word Bitches and Hos when they
describe black

the way up to 25,000 dollars, and even if he were to go over he can simply just move the excess
money into a new account so there is no risk. Although this does not offer as much interest as a

On the other hand, others argue that 16 year old shouldn t be allowed to vote because they re too

about themselves and are very disrespectful to their elders, so how are they mature enough to vote?

Armada Portrait Analysis
Elizabeth I, queen of England, was very strategic in the way she presented herself to the public. In
my short story, The Queen s Decision, Elizabeth s public and private selves are evident and
occasionally contrast with each other, especially during the decision to execute Mary Stuart, Queen
of Scots. Publicly, the Tudor queen had a strong aversion to beheading MaryStuart, but her personal
insights depict hostility to the fellow queen.
Elizabeth sitting on a throne made of silk from Asia, in reference to England s colonial power.
The Armada portrait was a public display to spread a positive image of the queen as propaganda
and to showcase the Tudor queen s strength. Similar to Elizabeth s Armada portrait in which she
places her hand on the globe (particularly North America), Elizabeth is placed directly on colonized
land (Asian silk), portraying England s power over other nations. In this instance, Elizabeth s
publicly demonstrates her power and her physical embodiment of England in a subtle, meaningful
way.
Furthermore, Elizabeth is dressed in a gold and white gown with pearls lining the bodice, inspired
by the Armada portrait again. Dubbed as the virgin queen, white and pearls are both indicative of
virginity and chastity, with gold being symbolic of wealth. Also, pearls are linked with the moon,
an entity that is difficult to reach and having immense influence over others, similar to Elizabeth
herself. Having pearls line the bodice, where the heart and stomach designate the inward seat of
passion, emotion, secret thoughts, affections, or feelings, (OED) illustrates Elizabeth s ability to
restrain her biological urges. Elizabeth s natural body intersects with the body politic, in that her
natural body is utilized to present a political ideal of her being in control.
William Cecil mentions Mary s plots against Elizabeth, notably the three major plots she is
suspected of committing during her imprisonment in England. The Ridofli Plot, The Throgmorton
Plot and the Babington Plot are the three times Mary attempted to kill Elizabeth, with her
involvement in the Babington Plot leading to her execution.
In Elizabeth s letter to William Cecil, April 11, 1572, she doesn t want to rush any irrevocable

Essay on How Humanism Transformed Individuals Role
Throughout time an individual s role in which he fits into society has changed. One of the most
noticeable changes in an individual s role in society occurred during the Italian Renaissance during
the 14th and 15th centuries with the introduction of Humanism. Humanism gave birth to the
concept of individuality a notion which is still alive today. It said that humans mattered and that
now mattered, that one should not be part of a whole but rather someone that is unique. Before
Humanism people only thought of the after life, of whether they were going to heaven or hell, but
with the introduction of Humanism people became more involved in the present, rather then just

They were also encouraged to study ancient societies such as the Greeks and the Romans, believing
this was the remedy for the present society. Humanism also encouraged people to help their society
by combining the talents. An example of that can be found in Florence where three humanists
served as chancellors of the city. Coluccio Salutati, Leonardo Bruni, and Poggio Bracciolini used
rhetorical skills to encourage Florentines to revolt against the aggression of Naples and Milan. Both
Bruni and Poggio wrote flattering histories of the city. Leon Battista Alberti, another accomplished
humanist scholar, was a noted Florentine architect and builder. They were encouraged to combine
their skills in history, art, and literature in their every day lives. This made them see the world with
a different perspective, which made them into the individuals they aspired to be. Another change
that occurred during the Italian Renaissance was the artistic perspective of this world. People were
no longer painting two dimensional art, and non logical portraits. A new technique, chiaroscuros a
technique that involved light and shadows, gave their paintings more depth and a realistic imagery.
They also made their paintings more realistic by making the objects relative to one another. They
emphasised emotions and belief in a universe full of harmony. By encouraging

Environmental Pollution In California Essay
Environmental Pollution Recommendation on California For the past few years, the American
Lung Association has been releasing its annual reports on the State of The Air that lists the most
polluted cities in the United States. For instance, in 2014, out of the seven cities ranked to have
the worst air quality, six of them are in California. The two major air pollution culprits in
California are from the transportation sources such as trucks and cars, or from the stationary
sources such as industrial facilities and refineries (Ierodiakonou, et al. 392). However, the
California Air Pollution Control Officers Association includes other pollutants in their reports such
as Sulphur(IV) oxide, Carbon(II) Oxide gas and Nitrogen(IV) Oxide from chemical industries,
which also causes harm to human beings and the environment at large. Apparently, Ozone is a lung
searing gas, which brings irritations in the airways causing respiratory problems (Kim, et al. 137).
In California, both ozone and particulate matters have increased the heart and respiratory diseases
such as asthma, lung diseases, bronchitis and heart problems for both children and adults.
Nevertheless, some of this other harmful gas such as Carbon(II) Oxide, Nitrogen(IV) Oxide, and
Sulphur(IV) oxide has also brought about cardiovascular... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first significant step is to clean up the diesel truck fleet to reduce the level of particulate
matters. Another solution is replacing the fossil fueled vehicles with zero emission freight

government through the environment regulating bodies should play a part in implementing these
plans to prevent pollution and also introduce stern punishments to those who are responsible for air

Application Of An Operating System Security
Abstract
This paper presents a description of an operating system security design that addresses the need for
flexibility to control dissemination of usage rights, administration of fine grained rights, and
validates the reversal of prior access rights. The system that can handle this enormous task is the
Flux Advanced Security Kernel (Flask) microkernel based operating system architecture, according
to research conducted by the National Security Agency (NSA) and researchers at the University of
Utah. Based on the results of testing and observations, the Flask architecture prototype is flexible

There is a wide range of computing environments and products that support these environments,
with each one having distinctive security needs. Computing systems must have the flexibility to
support many diverse types of security operating systems. This is the crux of the problem that
has facilitated research into finding a system that is multi faceted and able to provide fine
grained controls identifying who has access to which levels of data, determine which users have
permission to information based on policies and procedures, and revoke access rights that had
been established previously. The Flask model prototype has proven to meet the needs for an
operating system that contains policy flexibility. It has a security policy server capable of making
determinations about who has access and to what extent. Moreover, the Flask security system is
able to split mechanism and policy with a fuller set of safety measures to be maintained with
diminished requirements for policy specific modifications. The Flask architecture cleanly separates
the definition of the policy logic from the enforcement mechanism. The security policy logic is
encapsulated within a separate component of the operating system with well defined interfaces for
obtaining security policy decisions. This separate component is referred to as the security

Mozart s Requiem At The Seattle Symphony
Every time I hear about famous composers, like Bach or Mozart, the names themselves put me to
sleep quicker than any anesthesia ever could. So, it was no surprise that I absolutely dreaded the
idea of seeing a piece written by any of these composers. I attended Mozart s requiem at the
Seattle symphony, I grunted at the idea of paying $38 for something I wasn t even interested in.
How dare they charge an absurd amount for something that was written before time itself? I took
my seat and looked out at the sea of older retired couples and couldn t believe this would be my
fate someday. Ludovic Morlot was conducting for the evening, I have never heard the name in my
life and only learned of it from the magazine I was handed before taking my seat. Morlot is French
born musician, and currently the musicdirector for the Seattle symphony.
Morlot started off playing the violin, but in 1994, attended the Royal Academy of Music to become
a conductor. He first started playing for the Seattle Symphony in 2009, and would later go on to
sign a six year contract with the Seattle symphony. As the lights dimmed, the musicians took their
places and began playing. At the same time I sank into my seat and put my phone on the dim setting
and began my quest to find something interesting on Facebook. The first piece consisted of only
string instruments, and only about twenty musicians playing. The tone of the music started off
slow and gentle. As they kept playing, I quickly found it harder and

The Treaty of Versailles Resulted in Another Huge War
The treaty of Versailles, written in Paris Peace Conference by four allied nations, contributed to the
culmination of World War I between Germany and those four nations, which were United States,
France, Great Britain and Italy. Even though the purpose of the treaty was to prevent further
conflict and war, it, in fact, failed to treat all nations justifiably, including the losers of the war
(Germany), because it mandated Germany to solely compensate for the loss and damages caused
by the war. The restrictions treated Germany like a colony and eventually led to the decrease of
German military forces, financial bankruptcy caused by excessive reparation and the rise of
Nazis which triggered World War II. First of all, according to the section five of Article 159 213
of the treaty, Germany was limited to carry or maintain certain number of troops which led to
significant decrease in total military forces. The treaty forced Germany to keep navy, army and
air force as small as possible (1). Additionally, the number of army was diminished to 100,000
troops with no armored vehicles and they were limited to six battleships, six light cruisers,
twelve destroyers, twelve torpedo and no submarines (1). What is worse is the fact that
Germany was not able to defend itself anymore as it had to get rid of bunkers, defense systems and
mines from rivers, seas and harbors (1) and was prohibited to possess poison gas, armed aircraft,
tanks, blockades on ships and armored cars (2).

William Berkeley In The 1676 Analysis
In the 1670s, dissent from small farmers and frontiersmen marred the leadership of William
Berkeley. Reasons, such as restrictions on the right to vote, high taxes, low tobacco prices,
aristocratic leadership, and inadequate security against Native American attacks caused the dissent.
Nathanial Bacon, a relative of William Berkeley, relocated from England in 1673 and became part
of the administration in Virginia. Over time, the two disagreed on the issue of Indians (Rice, 2012).
It was at this point that emigrants of English descent were conquering land through force.
Some leaders in the Virginia governorship administration opposed this idea by preferring
negotiations. In 1676, a civil war erupted because of disagreement among the colonists. Nathanial
Bacon emerged as a leader of the people who lived on the frontier to protect them from attacks by
Native Americans. It was evident that Nathanial Bacon was fighting the colonial government by
urging poor farmers to express dissent by fighting the Native Americans and colonial government
(Rice, 2012). Consequently, the victims of the 1676 rebellion included the Pamunkey and the
Occoneechee tribes.
Following the discovery that Bacon was anti government, he was removed from his ... Show more

However, William Berkeley was focused on establishing peace with the Native Indians. The
rebellion grew whereby African Americans joined the frontiersmen demanding better treatment
from the colonial government. The colonial government soldiers became vigilant by suppressing
Bacon s forces; hence, restoring the colonial rule in the Virginian colony. The unification of poor
farmers and African Americans was seen as a potential threat to the colonial government. As a
result, the colonial government implemented measures to toughen racial labor for purposes of
preventing any further resistance (Rice,

Caucasian population of America. The purpose of the speech was to enlighten people about a
brighter future without racism and segregation. The speech was highly based on how cruel racism
and segregation was.

rights. He spoke out to confront the problems of racism in the nation. As he proclaimed that this

Movie Studio Analysis
Licensing Agreements
If a movie studio were to approach me about the use of my music in a movie there are several terms
that would have to be outlined. These include payment, exclusivity, use, territory, and time (The Art
Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 35).
Firstly, I would figure out the payment. Do I want to get paid in lump sums, royalties or
combination payments? If the movie stands a chance of success I would choose royalties because
the amount of payment is based on the success of the film, which means more money for me (The
Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 23).
Secondly I would discuss the exclusivity of the licensed product. Exclusivity is the use of rights
granted to the license by the licensor (The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 35).
When establishing the licensing contract with the movie studio I want to establish that only this
movie may use my work and no other productions by the movie studio may use my work. I may
also license the work so that other productions may use the work with non exclusive rights (The Art
Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 35).
The licensor should also look into the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in popular music there is the use of sampling of other songs or beats to produce
your own song. The producer of the new song must first gain the proper licensing and
permission of the original artist or is liable for a lawsuit. Another possible example is the
licensing of your music for radio use. For instance, the music we here on the radio is licensed to
the radio station to be played on that station with permission from the artist. Failure to obtain this
permission can again lead to legal dispute. Finally, a third option is licensing your music for use in
other media formats besides film. These formats include video games, television shows,
commercials (television and radio), web advertising and YouTube

Technologies required for E Commerce
In this report, I am going to explain the technologies which are required for e commerce as well as
the technologies that might be required by Cuckoo a small business selling clocks and watches that
is willing to expand via the internet. The technologies which I will be justifying include the
hardware, software and networking needed for e commerce.
The technologies that are required for E commerce include;
Web servers
Web browsers

The software interacts with the hardware infrastructure as well as the processor, memory, storage,
input/output and other communication ports. There are different types of server software s which
are available to but all focus their primary objective on using the built in computer capacity and
resources. Cuckoo will not need a cloud based server as they are a small business which will not
need to access their document from any computer but their own. However they will need a virtual
server software in order to keep track of appointments, suppliers, receipts, customer information and
etc.
Web authoring tools make it possible to create and design web pages in ease as it requires to be
less technical to make. These include software applications such as Dreamweaver and Microsoft
Front Page. Cuckoo can use these software s to create their own web pages however it will give
off a less professional look if using Dreamweaver if they would like to save on money. However
if they are experienced and know of other web authoring tools to make web pages, then it can
benefit them graciously. On the whole, Cuckoo will not need this as it does not hold much
significance if they have not created the website themselves.
Database system on e commerce website organises all of the data on a computer system which is a
back end storing the catalogue of products, customer records and other business information. The
software which is used is similar to another application known as

The Christianic Secret William Wilhelm Wrede Summary
Wilhelm Wrede Overview
The Messianic Secret is a theme of biblical criticism developed in 1901 by a German Lutheran
theologian named Wilhelm Wrede. The Messianic Secret involves Wrede s explanation for Jesus
wanting to hide his identity from his enemies by commanding the disciples to keep silent about his
mission on earth and the miracles he performed. Wrede claimed that Jesus did not ever think he was
the Messiah and that Mark and the rest of the New Testament authors sensationalized Jesus and
made him into the Messiah. Wrede claims Mark added the Messianic Secret in an attempt to give a
reason for why Jesus was not accepted by many as Messiah until after his death. Wrede s theory
enjoyed some popularity during the 1920s but faded soon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The development of the Messianic Secret was thus an effort to harmonize the two conflicting
traditions the true one about the real Jesus and the theological one developed by his followers after
he was gone.
It was observed by William Wrede in 1901 that the inconsistencies in the narrative about Jesus in
Mark render incredible some accounts of the life of Jesus. It is not possible to trace how Jesus
became during his ministry increasingly conscious of his Messianic status. Wrede remarked on the
oddness that Jesus commanded people he had healed to be silent about it. (Mark 5: 43) Indeed
sometimes (Mark 7: 36) they immediately disobeyed the request.
Wrede explained that Mark was giving not a historical account but a theological interpretation. It
was impossible for Jesus Messiahship to have been accepted until after belief in the resurrection.
Then it was realized that Jesus had been the Messiah all along. But how was it that he was not
recognized? The answer was that he had sworn people to secrecy though the demons, being
supernatural beings, recognized the truth (Mark 1: 24). When Jesus spoke in parables, Mark s view
was that they were deliberately couched in language which concealed the truth from the listening
crowd. (Mark 4:

Boeing 7e7 Case Study
Case # 10: The Boeing 7E7
Presenting
Date: October 24th, 2012
Course Number: Fire 417 Cases in Financial Management
Section: 901
Instructor: Dr. Manu Gupta
Group Number: 4
Group members: Peter Lee, Siravuth Punyataweekul and Stephen Woolard.
Case Summary:
1.) In early 2003, Boeing announced plans to design and sell an airliner named the 7E7. Boeing
aimed for the 7E7 to be more fuel efficient, carry between 200 and 250 passengers, able to
accomplish both domestic and international flights, as well as be 10% cheaper to operate than
Airbus s A330 200 aircraft. All of these attributes were attractive to Boeing but would come at
significant costs. To accomplish these attributes, Boeing proposed to construct the aircraft ... Show

There were also some unknown variables that needed to be taken into account. Development and
per copy costs were the costs that the board wanted to minimize. The forecast assumes that
development costs would be $8 billion. There was great uncertainty surrounding the manufacturing
cost of the 7E7. The element that adds the most uncertainty to the manufacturing costs are in the
engineering of the aircraft. While the engineering costs could be high, Boeing was hoping that the
lower construction costs of using the composite materials would compensate for the elevated
engineering costs.
2.) The cost of capital for Boeing would hinged on several factors. Factors such as beta and the
debt/equity ratio for Boeing and other companies in the same industry could impact how much
Boeing s cost of capital could be. The marginal tax rate for Boeing was expected to be around
35%. Yields on three month Treasury bonds were .85% and the yield on 30 year Treasury bonds
was 4.56%. On June 16, 2003, Boeing s stock closed at a price of $36.41. An important factor in
figuring Boeing s cost of capital would be that Boeing was separated into two different
businesses. The defense business was more stable due to the declaration of war against Iraq while
the commercial business was more volatile due to the events of September 11, 2001. Due to the
fact of Boeing being divided into two different

Analysis of Immanuel Kant s Arguements in The...
In the essay titled Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals published in the Morality and Moral
Controversies course textbook, Immanuel Kant argues that the view of the world and its laws is
structured by human concepts and categories, and the rationale of it is the source of morality
which depends upon belief in the existence of God. In Kant s work, categorical imperative was
established in order to have a standard rationale from where all moral requirements derive.
Therefore, categorical imperative is an obligation to act morally, out of duty and good will alone. In
Immanuel Kants writing human reason and or rational are innate morals which are responsible for
helping human. Needless to say, this also allows people to be able to... Show more content on

Freedom of the will can never be disproven or proven because will is influenced by the force
outside of the human body and humans use reason to determine the law themselves. Rational
people recognize themselves as free according to the categorical imperative.
Though I found myself sometimes disagreeing with the philosophy by Immanuel Kant, I found his
subjective reasoning to be thought provoking. I was pulled by two different forces after Kant
defined happiness as the state of a rational being in the world in the whole of whose existence
everything goes according to his wish and will. This unconventional way of defining term of
happiness strands away from the definition of happiness written by philosopher in the name of
John Stuart Mill. Mill defines happiness as a state of maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain.
In the writing, Immanuel argues that possession of wealth, health, or bravery can be used for
afflicted purposes and these characteristics cannot be essentially good. To Kant, being worthy of
happiness requires for one to possess a good will. The genuine good is the only unconditional good
which is connected to a good will. Disastrous misfortunes can happen but the goodness of the will
still remains. In this described above idea Immanuel provides a concrete support. According to my
interpretation of the author s idea and supporting statements, each day my actions consequentially
are moderately influenced by Kant s philosophy. I also believe that

Bp Evaluation of Leadership During and After Deepwater...
III. Discuss and evaluate the leadership of change:
a.)
When it comes to BP and the changes that were made in the post crisis era since the oil spill it is
very important to reference their history of safety violations. The oil spill of project Deepwater
Horizon was one largest examples of their previous lack of care and respect to safety and the
earth. Previous to the spill they have been in trouble with the authorities for illegal dumping of
waste products in northern Alaska as well as being fined $13 million by OSHA for failing to
comply with safety violations four years after an explosion at a Texas refinery in 2005. BP has a
notable track record for paying out billions of dollars to offer compensation for accidents or slight

Hayward s decision to present a video explaining BP s top kill attempt took the company s
Louisiana command by surprise. As for Suttles himself, he insisted this week that there were no
massive underwater oil plumes in large concentrations from the spill. To NBC, he offered that it
may be down to how you define what a plume is here. (Associated Press)
With Hayward and Suttles appearances on the television screen it was starting to look like that no
one was in control or in charge at BP to the general public. This is what made it impossible for a
transformational reactive change to take place at BP during the time they needed it the most. BP
and their two executive spokespersons were faced with a very large problem when it came to their
adaptive personality attributes during the time of change. Both Hayward and Suttles showed a low
emotional intelligence and could not connect with the victims affected by the spill by showing
them empathy with their choice words and actions during the crisis.
When BP finally got the well capped 87 days later, after blaming both of their partners Transocean
and Halliburton for the systems and technology failure, BP was already planning on releasing Tony
Hayward and gave the date of October 1, 2010 for his replacement Bob Dudley, an American born
in Missouri, as the new Chief Executive Officer. He

Analysis Of Mary Maloney In Lamb To The Slaughter
Is it possible for a loving wife that is six months pregnant to love her husband with all her heart,
but then moments later is found to be the wife that murders her husband? Well, Mary Maloney, a
caring, loving women is the wife of detective Patrick, an alcoholic man that comes home from
work only to see his wife that he no longer loves. One day, when Patrick is not sober, he attempts
to deliver some upsetting news to Mary about a divorce. Sadly, she does not believe it and
carries on with her life, but after having to believe it, Mary takes revenge on Patrick by taking his
life from him. Mary Maloney is extremely intelligent and is a very deceiving female character in
the short storycalled, Lamb To The Slaughter. Throughout this story, her character traits do not just
portray how she is an effective murderer, but a strong actress as well.
Firstly, by using her intelligence, she kills her husband without leaving a trace, showing that she
is a sufficient murderer. For example, Mary kills her husband when she, ...[swings] the big frozen
leg of lamb high in the air and {brings} it down as hard as she could on the back of his head (Dahl
4). Obviously, knowing that the police is going to appear and search for the murder weapon, Mary
kills her husband with a frozen piece of lamb because she can cook it later. When Mary kills her
husband with an edible item, she acknowledges that it can later serve as a delicious meal. By Mary

Introduction
This paper seeks to discuss the leadership styles of two Lieutenant Colonels (Lt.Col.) in the Israeli
during a mass evacuation from the Gaza strip. The circumstances of the evacuation are that the
Israeli government decided that all settlements in the area surrounding the Gaza Strip would be
abandoned, against the wishes of the settlers some of whom had been living there for over twenty
years. In addition to the leadership styles topics of discussion will include three examples of

because they did not want to detract from their ongoing operations by spending energy on it.
(Laufer) Though he was disappointed in what he found he devised a plan to get the personnel he
needed. First he instructed his team leaders to identify those least suitable for the mission, second
he asked all of the feeder units for highly qualified troops which was met with resistance and lastly
he went to his superior and advised him that Without the personal involvement and commitment to
the mission on the part of the commanders of the dispatching units, we have no chance of
succeeding. (Laufer) The pros of each example are that Lt. Col. Yaron made critical decisions that
ultimately led to the successful evacuation of the Gaza Strip. Whenever he was meet with
resistance he handled the matter diplomatically by first trying to allow the resistors to adjust their
attitudes via face to face communication and finally by getting higher ups support. The cons of
each example are if he had of used a more direct leadership approach such as being Autocratic he
may have gotten the staff and peer support from the onset at the expense of teamwork.

  • 2. Why Teacher Fails Essay Mean Shean Wong ENG 104 29 April 2013 Why teachers fail For ancient time, teachers have played an important role in society. Behind every successful person, there is a teacher. Nowadays, both parents are too busy earning money because of the high living expenses, so the teacher is expected to build a strong moral character and provide emotional support for the students. To achieve this, by the definition of John Lembo who is the author of Why Teachers Fail, has four qualities: (1) he can engage students in an open and trusting relationship by his capacity to listen and accept; (2) he is skilled in the use of different diagnostic, planning, facilitative and evaluative procedure and is knowledgeable about their limitations; (3) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He tells Finn that he should not be playing keyboard because he thinks that he is not cool enough. Finn encourages him and fills him with confidence. Therefore, Lawrence plays an important role the band. For another example, when Tomika, who is one of the backup singers, refuses to go up to stage because she is afraid that the audiences will be laughing at her obesity, Finn responds, Tomika... Ok, you ve heard of Aretha Franklin right? She s a big lady. But when she sings, she blows people s minds! Everyone wants to party with Aretha! And, you know who else has a weight problem? He even uses himself as an example to encourage Tomika by saying that, when I get up there and start doing my thing, people worship me! Because I m sexy, and chubby, man. Therefore, Tomika gains confidence from Finn. Teachers encouragement means a lot to their students, since both parents are spending a long time at work, and as Lembo states in his essay empathetic listening is perhaps the most necessary condition for facilitating the development of an open and trusting relationship. Finn proves that by encouraging Lawrence to continue playing keyboard for the band. Finn also meets the second criteria of Lembo: he is skilled in the use of different diagnostic, planning, facilitative and evaluative procedure and is knowledgeable about their limitations. He assigns various jobs to his students by analyzing everyone s abilities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Thesis About Appeasement Appeasement is the policy of acceding to the demands of a potentially hostile nation in the hope of maintaining peace. This is done by giving in to demands of a leader in order to satisfy their short term goals and avoid conflict. It was a policy used by the leaders of France and Britain with Hitler in the 1930s because they hoped that if they showed understanding and gave Hitler what he asked for, there would be no reason for fighting or war to break out. Some of the things followed for appeasement that the Western Leaders did were, When Hitler reoccupied the Rhineland, France did nothing, France and Britain did not oppose his rebuilding the German military. Hitler realized that the French and British Leaders were scared of his power and also of war. Hitler needed more living space for the German people and he thought of taking over Poland. Hitler began planning the invasion of Poland. After World War I , Poland s army was relatively weak and ill equipped compared to Germany. To aid in its defense, Poland had formed military alliances with Great Britain and France. Massing their armies along the Polish border, the Germans staged a fake Polish attack on August 31, 1939. Using this as a pretext for war, German forces flooded across the border the next day. On September 3, Great Britain and France issued a warning to Germany to end the fighting. When no reply was received, both nations declared war. Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia and Poland before World War 2 but then from 1939 and June 1941 the German army invaded and occupied many countries like Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg,France, Denmark,Yugoslavia, Greece, Norway and Western Poland. On the day of a soccer game, the streets suddenly empty, the stadiums fill, and people everywhere else sit by their televisions and root on their favorite soccer club. As they cheer on their teams, they understand the game and get into the game like one would do for football in America. When you travel 4500 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, it s a whole different lifestyle. America s flip their TV on and scroll through the ESPN and sports section and see nothing but basketball, baseball, football, and occasionally a hockey game. If you are a fan of soccer though it s obvious, you aren t going to find anything on TV having to do with it. Why must soccer be so overlooked in the United States? Why is the world s most popular sport so cared about so little in America? If you are talking about sports in a normal American setting, teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cowboys, or Lakers will most usually come up. These are obviously the most common sports teams in the US today, but why don t we hear about teams like LA Galaxy, Real Madrid, or Manchester United? • 5. Research Paper On State Lotteries State Lotteries: Take a Second Look From the time the Europeans first landed on the Atlantic shore, lotteries have been a part of the American society. According to Will Spink, most states are currently operating a state lottery despite its bleak history in the U.S. (Spink 1). Since 1983, North Carolina has introduced lottery bills in the legislature every year (NC Christian 15). North Carolina Governor, Mike Easley, favors a lottery for increasing revenues for education (Analysis 2). However lucrative state lotteries appear on the surface, they create even more moral and financial difficulties for citizens, and this should encourage states to look at other means of resources instead of legalized gambling. In a lottery fact sheet... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Governor Easley proposes that lottery taxes will supplement and not replace other taxes that support education (Analysis 2). Other states have had the exact opposite to occur. In California, ninety percent of school superintendents believe it had an adverse effect on their getting other funds for their schools. In 1987, a study was conducted in Illinois that gave validity to what many lottery opponents claim happens in many cases: While the lottery money to education increases, the total education funding in the state budget increases at a lower rate than it has in previous years (Spink 3). Money magazine s study proved that states with lotteries designate a lower percentage of their total budget to education than do states without a lottery. However, proponents could point to the fact that lottery states on an average spend more on education per student, than non lottery states (NC Insider 2). Research has difficulty proving or disproving social consequences of lotteries. A survey by Gam Anon, the family counterpart of Gamblers Anonymous, did reveal that ten percent of its members abused their children, and fifty percent of the spouses reported physical and verbal abuse. Crimes like burglary, larceny, and auto theft increase by an average of three percent in states that implement a state lottery. Sixty percent of heavy gamblers admit to some sort of criminal activity within the past year . (Economic Facts 4). State government can find itself in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The s Compensation System, A Dual Structured, Job Based Plan Previously in Phase I, FastCat s compensation system was identified as a dual structured, job based plan. Job evaluation points were used to measure the values for each of the FastCat jobs. Each job was assigned these evaluation points based on the five compensable factors discussed in Phase I. The assigned points are used to create a fair compensation system and remain internally aligned. FastCat s goal is to match the market, or pay the average level for similar jobs within the market rate. In Phase II of FastCat s compensation system, a dual focus on the base pay and providing incentives for their employees was recommended. It is ideal for FastCat to match the market to maintain their competitiveness. This pay policy is most suitable because it will maximize FastCat s ability to attract and keep good employees, while still being within the company s ability to pay its expenses. Also, this pay structure will link pay to performance. This will assist FastCat with improving their employee engagement, motivation, rewarding performances, and increasing productivity. Balancing the profitability of the company with the pay structure of their employees will greatly regulate the future success of FastCat. Whether the destination of choice is McDonalds or Red Lobster, it is still difficult to dispense money towards a meal that could have potentially been replicated at home. Normally, the bill comes with an additional feethat adds on to the total cost of the food. Gratuity is a way customers show their appreciation or disapproval of their server. It is a direct reflection on how the customers perceived the performance of their servers. Some restaurants have made a transition to including gratuity into the bill. Essentially taking away the grading scale of the waiter or waitress. Tipping a server should be the decision of the consumer not the decision of the restaurant. Without the service included policy, the servers have more incentive to give great service which, in turn, may increase their gratuity. Andrea Volpi generates several points that support the claim of straying away from a check with a service fee. Servers are not motivated when they are receiving minimum wage, the quality of their work decreases and the satisfaction of the customer declines as well. One of main contents of decentralization is the reallocation of administrative affairs of the national and local governments among the State and local governments so that the functions of the State and local governments become harmonious. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, the necessity of implementing the fire services at the central government level has been raised because fire services are directly connected with the safety of the people. It is the most basic obligation of the State assigned by the Constitution to strive for the protection of the life and body of people. In other words, fire services have the nature of national affairs rather than provincial governments affairs. There are three options with regard to fire services system reorganization: switching to national fire services system, financial supporting for provincial governments fire services budget, and switching to local fire services system. The most desirable option is switching to national fire services system, considering the nature of fire services, efficiency, and ensuring the safety of people through the effective response to disasters. According to article 34 of the Constitution of the Republic of Korea, the State has a duty to protect citizens from disasters. Unpredictable disasters require proactive responses of central government due to difficulty in coping with disasters with provincial governments fire services force. As we have already experienced in the Sewol Ferry sinking, we need to establish strong and unitary command system to secure the safety of people from disasters. Thus I recommend switching to national fire services system. Policy Options Simply do nothing is not appropriate in the current situation given the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The State And State Sovereignty Introduction This paper discusses the crucial issue of electoral systems and their peculiar utility to the effective representation in the national legislature (and even the executive) of the diverse interests within the state. This discussion is in no way novel as it has been one of the most age old and fundamental questions in the study of politics. Controversially, it can be said that before the question of how the state and state sovereignty (popularly led by John Locke and Thomas Hobbes) gained traction, the question of who must govern the state and how that governor must be chosen had already enjoyed some dissection. Plato s classical concept of the Philosopher King for instance, buttresses the latter assertion. To Plato, the reins of supreme power in the state had to be given to an authority that wielded an appreciable grasp of philosophy. To him, if a state wanted to choose a leader that could best ensure the wellbeing of all, that person must be a philosopher as the philosopher would know the interests of the people and pursue it accordingly. Plato also suggested that the Philosopher King had to surround himself with wise men for the purposes of seeking counsel. Aristotle criticized Plato s theory and doubted that it was viable for one man to know of the interests of all and also to be entrusted with so much power but would not abuse it. This conversation that began thousands of years ago has recorded succinct inputs from many other thinkers and scholars. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dividing up the land for farming is bad because the animals of the grasslands don t have any way to move around. Prairie animals are also being endangered. • 32. Armada Portrait Analysis Elizabeth I, queen of England, was very strategic in the way she presented herself to the public. In my short story, The Queen s Decision, Elizabeth s public and private selves are evident and occasionally contrast with each other, especially during the decision to execute Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. Publicly, the Tudor queen had a strong aversion to beheading MaryStuart, but her personal insights depict hostility to the fellow queen. Elizabeth sitting on a throne made of silk from Asia, in reference to England s colonial power. The Armada portrait was a public display to spread a positive image of the queen as propaganda and to showcase the Tudor queen s strength. Similar to Elizabeth s Armada portrait in which she places her hand on the globe (particularly North America), Elizabeth is placed directly on colonized land (Asian silk), portraying England s power over other nations. In this instance, Elizabeth s publicly demonstrates her power and her physical embodiment of England in a subtle, meaningful way. Furthermore, Elizabeth is dressed in a gold and white gown with pearls lining the bodice, inspired by the Armada portrait again. Dubbed as the virgin queen, white and pearls are both indicative of virginity and chastity, with gold being symbolic of wealth. Also, pearls are linked with the moon, an entity that is difficult to reach and having immense influence over others, similar to Elizabeth herself. Having pearls line the bodice, where the heart and stomach designate the inward seat of passion, emotion, secret thoughts, affections, or feelings, (OED) illustrates Elizabeth s ability to restrain her biological urges. Elizabeth s natural body intersects with the body politic, in that her natural body is utilized to present a political ideal of her being in control. William Cecil mentions Mary s plots against Elizabeth, notably the three major plots she is suspected of committing during her imprisonment in England. The Ridofli Plot, The Throgmorton Plot and the Babington Plot are the three times Mary attempted to kill Elizabeth, with her involvement in the Babington Plot leading to her execution. One of the most noticeable changes in an individual s role in society occurred during the Italian Renaissance during the 14th and 15th centuries with the introduction of Humanism. Humanism gave birth to the concept of individuality a notion which is still alive today. It said that humans mattered and that now mattered, that one should not be part of a whole but rather someone that is unique. Humanism also encouraged people to help their society by combining the talents. An example of that can be found in Florence where three humanists served as chancellors of the city. Coluccio Salutati, Leonardo Bruni, and Poggio Bracciolini used rhetorical skills to encourage Florentines to revolt against the aggression of Naples and Milan. Both Bruni and Poggio wrote flattering histories of the city. Leon Battista Alberti, another accomplished humanist scholar, was a noted Florentine architect and builder. They were encouraged to combine their skills in history, art, and literature in their every day lives. This made them see the world with a different perspective, which made them into the individuals they aspired to be. Another change that occurred during the Italian Renaissance was the artistic perspective of this world. People were no longer painting two dimensional art, and non logical portraits. For instance, in 2014, out of the seven cities ranked to have the worst air quality, six of them are in California. The two major air pollution culprits in California are from the transportation sources such as trucks and cars, or from the stationary sources such as industrial facilities and refineries (Ierodiakonou, et al. 392). • 39. Mozart s Requiem At The Seattle Symphony Every time I hear about famous composers, like Bach or Mozart, the names themselves put me to sleep quicker than any anesthesia ever could. So, it was no surprise that I absolutely dreaded the idea of seeing a piece written by any of these composers. I attended Mozart s requiem at the Seattle symphony, I grunted at the idea of paying $38 for something I wasn t even interested in. How dare they charge an absurd amount for something that was written before time itself? I took my seat and looked out at the sea of older retired couples and couldn t believe this would be my fate someday. Ludovic Morlot was conducting for the evening, I have never heard the name in my life and only learned of it from the magazine I was handed before taking my seat. Morlot is French born musician, and currently the musicdirector for the Seattle symphony. Morlot started off playing the violin, but in 1994, attended the Royal Academy of Music to become a conductor. He first started playing for the Seattle Symphony in 2009, and would later go on to sign a six year contract with the Seattle symphony. As the lights dimmed, the musicians took their places and began playing. At the same time I sank into my seat and put my phone on the dim setting and began my quest to find something interesting on Facebook. The first piece consisted of only string instruments, and only about twenty musicians playing. The tone of the music started off slow and gentle. As they kept playing, I quickly found it harder and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Treaty of Versailles Resulted in Another Huge War The treaty of Versailles, written in Paris Peace Conference by four allied nations, contributed to the culmination of World War I between Germany and those four nations, which were United States, France, Great Britain and Italy. Even though the purpose of the treaty was to prevent further conflict and war, it, in fact, failed to treat all nations justifiably, including the losers of the war (Germany), because it mandated Germany to solely compensate for the loss and damages caused by the war. The restrictions treated Germany like a colony and eventually led to the decrease of German military forces, financial bankruptcy caused by excessive reparation and the rise of Nazis which triggered World War II. First of all, according to the section five of Article 159 213 of the treaty, Germany was limited to carry or maintain certain number of troops which led to significant decrease in total military forces. The treaty forced Germany to keep navy, army and air force as small as possible (1). Additionally, the number of army was diminished to 100,000 troops with no armored vehicles and they were limited to six battleships, six light cruisers, twelve destroyers, twelve torpedo and no submarines (1). What is worse is the fact that Germany was not able to defend itself anymore as it had to get rid of bunkers, defense systems and mines from rivers, seas and harbors (1) and was prohibited to possess poison gas, armed aircraft, tanks, blockades on ships and armored cars (2). ... • 41. William Berkeley In The 1676 Analysis In the 1670s, dissent from small farmers and frontiersmen marred the leadership of William Berkeley. Reasons, such as restrictions on the right to vote, high taxes, low tobacco prices, aristocratic leadership, and inadequate security against Native American attacks caused the dissent. Nathanial Bacon, a relative of William Berkeley, relocated from England in 1673 and became part of the administration in Virginia. Over time, the two disagreed on the issue of Indians (Rice, 2012). It was at this point that emigrants of English descent were conquering land through force. Some leaders in the Virginia governorship administration opposed this idea by preferring negotiations. In 1676, a civil war erupted because of disagreement among the colonists. Nathanial Bacon emerged as a leader of the people who lived on the frontier to protect them from attacks by Native Americans. It was evident that Nathanial Bacon was fighting the colonial government by urging poor farmers to express dissent by fighting the Native Americans and colonial government (Rice, 2012). Consequently, the victims of the 1676 rebellion included the Pamunkey and the Occoneechee tribes. Following the discovery that Bacon was anti government, he was removed from his ... These include payment, exclusivity, use, territory, and time (The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 35). Firstly, I would figure out the payment. Do I want to get paid in lump sums, royalties or combination payments? If the movie stands a chance of success I would choose royalties because the amount of payment is based on the success of the film, which means more money for me (The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 23). Secondly I would discuss the exclusivity of the licensed product. Exclusivity is the use of rights granted to the license by the licensor (The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 35). When establishing the licensing contract with the movie studio I want to establish that only this movie may use my work and no other productions by the movie studio may use my work. The Christianic Secret William Wilhelm Wrede Summary Wilhelm Wrede Overview The Messianic Secret is a theme of biblical criticism developed in 1901 by a German Lutheran theologian named Wilhelm Wrede. The Messianic Secret involves Wrede s explanation for Jesus wanting to hide his identity from his enemies by commanding the disciples to keep silent about his mission on earth and the miracles he performed. Wrede claimed that Jesus did not ever think he was the Messiah and that Mark and the rest of the New Testament authors sensationalized Jesus and made him into the Messiah. Wrede claims Mark added the Messianic Secret in an attempt to give a reason for why Jesus was not accepted by many as Messiah until after his death. Wrede s theory enjoyed some popularity during the 1920s but faded soon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The development of the Messianic Secret was thus an effort to harmonize the two conflicting traditions the true one about the real Jesus and the theological one developed by his followers after he was gone. It was observed by William Wrede in 1901 that the inconsistencies in the narrative about Jesus in Mark render incredible some accounts of the life of Jesus. It is not possible to trace how Jesus became during his ministry increasingly conscious of his Messianic status. Wrede remarked on the oddness that Jesus commanded people he had healed to be silent about it. (Mark 5: 43) Indeed sometimes (Mark 7: 36) they immediately disobeyed the request. Wrede explained that Mark was giving not a historical account but a theological interpretation. It was impossible for Jesus Messiahship to have been accepted until after belief in the resurrection. Then it was realized that Jesus had been the Messiah all along. But how was it that he was not recognized? The answer was that he had sworn people to secrecy though the demons, being supernatural beings, recognized the truth (Mark 1: 24). When Jesus spoke in parables, Mark s view was that they were deliberately couched in language which concealed the truth from the listening crowd. (Mark 4: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Summary: 1.) In early 2003, Boeing announced plans to design and sell an airliner named the 7E7. Boeing aimed for the 7E7 to be more fuel efficient, carry between 200 and 250 passengers, able to accomplish both domestic and international flights, as well as be 10% cheaper to operate than Airbus s A330 200 aircraft. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were also some unknown variables that needed to be taken into account. Development and per copy costs were the costs that the board wanted to minimize. The forecast assumes that development costs would be $8 billion. There was great uncertainty surrounding the manufacturing cost of the 7E7. The element that adds the most uncertainty to the manufacturing costs are in the engineering of the aircraft. While the engineering costs could be high, Boeing was hoping that the lower construction costs of using the composite materials would compensate for the elevated engineering costs. 2.) The cost of capital for Boeing would hinged on several factors. Factors such as beta and the debt/equity ratio for Boeing and other companies in the same industry could impact how much Boeing s cost of capital could be. The marginal tax rate for Boeing was expected to be around 35%. Yields on three month Treasury bonds were .85% and the yield on 30 year Treasury bonds was 4.56%. On June 16, 2003, Boeing s stock closed at a price of $36.41. An important factor in figuring Boeing s cost of capital would be that Boeing was separated into two different businesses. The defense business was more stable due to the declaration of war against Iraq while the commercial business was more volatile due to the events of September 11, 2001. Due to the fact of Boeing being divided into two different

In the essay titled Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals published in the Morality and Moral Controversies course textbook, Immanuel Kant argues that the view of the world and its laws is structured by human concepts and categories, and the rationale of it is the source of morality which depends upon belief in the existence of God. In Kant s work, categorical imperative was established in order to have a standard rationale from where all moral requirements derive. Therefore, categorical imperative is an obligation to act morally, out of duty and good will alone. Freedom of the will can never be disproven or proven because will is influenced by the force outside of the human body and humans use reason to determine the law themselves. Rational people recognize themselves as free according to the categorical imperative. Though I found myself sometimes disagreeing with the philosophy by Immanuel Kant, I found his subjective reasoning to be thought provoking. I was pulled by two different forces after Kant defined happiness as the state of a rational being in the world in the whole of whose existence everything goes according to his wish and will. This unconventional way of defining term of happiness strands away from the definition of happiness written by philosopher in the name of John Stuart Mill. Mill defines happiness as a state of maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain. In the writing, Immanuel argues that possession of wealth, health, or bravery can be used for afflicted purposes and these characteristics cannot be essentially good. To Kant, being worthy of happiness requires for one to possess a good will. The genuine good is the only unconditional good which is connected to a good will. Disastrous misfortunes can happen but the goodness of the will still remains. In this described above idea Immanuel provides a concrete support.
