Louis Armstrong Essay
Louis Armstrong
He was born in the south at a time when a black boy could expect nothing but to grow up, work
hard at the lowest jobs all his life, and hope somehow, somewhere manage to stay healthy and get
a little out of life. (P.1 Collier) Get a little out of life Louis did, a pure genius he revolutionized
America s first true form of art, jazz. Doing a paper on Louis Armstrong has been enjoyable to do
and the information that is available on Armstrong is endless. So much that this paper is going to
concentrate on Louis Childhood how he got involved with music and the early years of his music
career with King Oliver s Creole Jazz Band and the recordings of the Hot 5 s and Hot 7 s. Satchmo,
which is only one of his nicknames ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Louis grew up in New Orleans in a tough area known, as The Battle Field where knife fights and
gun play were common. At the age of about seven he moved to black Storyville. It consisted of
dance halls honky tonks and brothels. It was an entertainment district like London s Soho. He grew
up with music all around him. He could hear music from outside is house when he woke up and
when he went to bed.
It is recorded that Louis did attend school at the Fisk school where he learned to read and write.
How long he attended this school is another mystery. One fact we do know about Louis is that he
was arrested on New Years Eve 1912 for shooting a gun. Louis was around eleven at the time,
and this was a very serious offense. He was sent to the Coloreds Waif House a reform school on
the out skirts of New Orleans. Here Louis was introduced to organized music in the form of the
school band. The school band was run by Captain Joseph Jones in a military fashion that was
extremely strict. This is where Louis s life changed from delinquent to a disciplined young man
this was also when Louis was introduced to playing a musical instrument. The teacher, Professor
Pete Davis, first had reservations of letting Louis play in the school s brass band because he
thought Louis was a bad kid. Finally Louis was let into the band, and received his first formal
training on an instrument. More importantly than the music training Louis received from Professor
Davis were the real life

China s Economic Success Of The United States
In 2014, what had been predicted numerous times throughout the past decade had finally
occurred. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), China had overtook the United
States (US) to become the world s largest economy, with their Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
measured by way of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), where GDP is adjusted to accommodate the
relative prices in each market, was estimated to be at $17.6 trillion compared to $17.4 trillion for
the US (Fray 2014). This stood testament to the success of the economic reforms in the wake of the
death of Chairman Mao Zedong, led by Deng Xiao Ping beginning in 1978, in revitalising the
Chinese economyto the superpower status that it enjoys today (Zhu, Webber Benson 2010, p. 9).
However this measure of China s economic success is but one side of the coin. According to
China s official poverty standard, poverty fell from 65% to 10% in 1981 to 2004 (World Bank
2009, pp. iii v) and while this marked reduction is exceptional, the way these statistics are
obtained reveals part of the problem. The Chinese government s official poverty line is one of
the lowest in the world and if poverty were to be measured by international standards, in 2005,
China would have 254 million people under the US $1.25 poverty line set by the World Bank, the
second largest number of poor in the world apart from India, compared to 15 million under official
standards. This shows that while China s tremendous economic growth is undeniable, its

Brett Schaefer And Steven Groves
Brett Schaefer and Steven Groves believes the United States decision was justifiable. They argue
that the International Criminal Court has a worthy purpose, but still has issues that need to be
addressed before the United States would join the court. Schaefer and Groves explain the Article 98
Agreement and the American Service Member Protection Act. Also their argument contains the five
concerns the Bush Administration had about joining the ICC, but the two major concerns regard
the fear of political abuse of power and also the threat to national sovereignty.
In contrast, Michael P. Scharf believes the United Statesdecision was unjustifiable. He argues, the
conference in Rome attempted to compromise; however, the United States was not satisfied with
the modifications. What makes the refusal unjustifiable is because the United States did not want
be subjected to prosecutions and they did not want to take responsibility for their actions.
Schaefer and Groves argument contains facts. As an example, the International Criminal Courtdoes
not have a clear definition of what the crime of aggression is and has yet to define the crimes it
claims jurisdiction over (p. 152). This fact supports why the United States decision is justifiable
because their military actions could be charged by enemy countries since there is no clear definition
of what aggression means. Another example is that the International Criminal Court can prosecute
an individual from a country that is not party

Asoka DBQ
Asoka was a ruler of the great Mauryan empire from 268 BCE to 232 BCE (before common era),
located in India. Asoka ruled the Mauryanians, who were named after his grandfather,
Chandragupta Maurya. Asoka could be kind of ruthless, but in his later years of ruling, he showed
to be peaceful and enlightened. Being the prince of the Mauryanians, he inherited almost all of India
, and ruled for almost 36 years. With age, Asoka became an enlightened ruler. Almost 7 years into
ruling, in 261 BCE, Asoka conquered Kalinga, the land neighboring the Mauryanians. In the
passage, Asoka: Ruthless Conqueror, or Enlightened Ruler?, it states, (Doc A) Kalingas killed in
battle: 100,000. Died of disease and hunger: 100,000. Driven out of country after battle: 150,000.
That is 350,000 Kalingas dead, or displaced. Asoka was being kind of ruthless in battle. Kalinga

Asoka started thinking about his people. Buddhism is a spiritual practice, which caused this. He

The Differences Between Americans And Europeans
Over the years the world has become smaller and the gap between Europe and America has

Comparing Soccer and Water Polo Essay examples
The history of sports dates back before the discovery of America or even the birth of Jesus
Christ. Sports have been in a constant evolution ever since their introduction to the world, such
as Tsu Chu to soccer or polo to water polo. Although soccer and water polo are popular in
America today many athletes have come to love these two unique sports. Both sports are
physically exhausting, demanding all an athlete has to offer to the game. They test the limit of the
body and push it into the next level of competition. To a new comer these two vicious sports seem
drastically different, but when it comes to the basics no two sports could be more alike. Soccer is

Just like soccer, water polo is extremely popular within Europe, but in the States the demand for
the sport is not as high. It is played in a pool that is twenty five meters long. Water polo unlike
soccer restricts a player to the use of one their hands at a time. The player must tread water,
while being able to catch and throw the ball with one hand, along with a defender trying to pull
him or her under water. The pool consists of two goals, and two teams of seven trying to put the
polo ball in the opponents net. Just like a soccer player would use his or her foot work to get
around a defender, the polo player uses moves to break free from the defender and advance down
the pool. Teams will wear matching uniforms, but since they are in water they wear head caps with
their number and team color on it, so they can differentiate the players. Players must survive four
quarters of seven minutes, while only being allowed thirty five seconds to have possession of
the ball. But once that time has expired the ball is handed to the other team. When it comes to
rules, referees are very picky and allow very little foul play. One common ground for both sports
would be the use of a ball about the same size. Along with the flow of the game, since players are
constantly on the move to either defend the ball, score, or get the ball away from their opponent.
Soccer and water polo are both in need for the speed of a quick and smart player who is willing to

Japanese Internment Essay
Tension emerged between the United States and Japan. On December 7, 1941, Japanese fighter
planes attacked the United States naval base located in Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii. The
United States was completely blindsided. Pearl Harbor was their least suspected place for an
attack to take place, so their naval base was very weak, making it an irresistible target for Japan.
Over 2,000 United States sailors and soldiers died, and 1,000 were wounded. American ships and
airplanes were destroyed. The United States took action against Japan and joined World War II.
There was a great population of Japanese Americans on the West Coast of the United States, which
caused ongoing fear and suspicion. President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which...

These internment camps were not execution camps. Although these camps held Japanese
Americans against their will, they did not pose dangers that would affect the well being of the
citizens. Additionally, thousands of American citizens are engaged in warfare in the military.
Being part of the military is far worse than being evacuated to an internment camp. According to
a statement made by Representative Leland Ford in 1942, [...] if an American born Japanese,
who is a citizen, is really patriotic [...] he should be willing to do it if he is patriotic [...] As
against his sacrifice, millions of other native born citizens are willing to lay down their lives,
which is a far greater sacrifice, of course, than being placed in a concentration camp (Document
A). As citizens of the United States, it is the Japanese American s patriotic duty to make sacrifices
for the country s safety, which are not dreadful in comparison to the sacrifices other citizens make
for the country. Many Americans imperil their lives by serving in the military forces. Japanese
Americans are solely being relocated for defense purposes. The Secretary of War, who President
Roosevelt gave power to, must provide the proper necessities for those who were being relocated
into the internment camps, the Japanese Americans. These resources included food and shelter,
fundamentals to survive. The United States did not have the intention

He told me and I was eager to play the cricket betting. After few days there was a cricket match

you will get double money and for Pakistan you will get four times the money you invest. I was

John Nelson

Abstract
Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action and Diversity are key concepts of
public human resources management in the United States. Human Resource Managers must pay
careful attention to these concepts and their values in order to keep their work place compliant,
positive and free of controversy. One has to understand the values, history and laws that have
shaped each of these concepts. This essay will attempt to briefly outline each concept, divulge

If this level of customer service is adopted by policy in a public agency, it will soon become
evident in the management style and eventually will trickle down into the hiring. If a public
agency can adopt a high level customer service policy, that constantly seeks feedback from its
customers, the tax payer. If this feedback, then become a factor for evaluation and appraisals, the
management and hiring will become conscious of efficiency and try to mimic the diversity of the
population in their hiring. This aggressive diversity management system coupled with EEO could
be great option for public agencies to be diverse and eliminate Affirmative Action. While the author
understands that there are other complex issues and arguments surrounding this topic, the concept
of the tax payer forcing the public agency to diversity, just as a the customers force a business to

The Murders In The Rue Morgue By Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe Edgar Allan Poe is an early American author, viewed as one of the greats. Poe s
work as a poet and short story writer are well known and still timeless tales even today, more than
one hundred and fifty years later. Poe captivates his audience with his poems and short stories by
telling tales of all kinds. Poe is said to have created detective fiction with his short storyThe
Murders in the Rue Morgue (Fisher IV). Poe s life was surrounded by mystery and death a lot of
what is known about Poe is said to be false or romanticized by Poe himself (Fisher IV). Poe was

Poe was found five days later in a Baltimore, street Incoherent, and was later taken to the hospital.
Poe came in and out of consciousness and complained of headaches. He later fell unconscious
and passed away; the official cause of death was listed as congestion of the brain. (Patterson).
Several theories exist for Poe s death they range from, rabies, drinking binge, or a blow to the head.
After Poe s death an ad appeared in the New York Tribune, titled Death of Edgar Allan Poe
, signed
Ludwig. (Fisher IV). The article tried to slander Poe and make him look like a womanizing
drunk. The article is how his family and loved ones in Richmond, Virginia found out about his
death. The article by Ludwig only helped create the legend of Poe; Ludwig was later found to be
Rufus W. Griswold, Poe s literary executor and editor (Fisher IV). Griswold who disliked Poe
because of a critic review Poe did on Griswold s book of poems, wanted to ruin Poe as the review
did for him. Another mystery that surrounds Poe s death is his final resting place. Poe thought to
be buried in an unmarked grave in the Poe family plot in Baltimore. When the grave was dug up
and the body exhumed to place a monument for him. It was noted that the body was 178cm tall
and buried in a military uniform; however Poe was only 173cm tall and had been buried in civilian

Henry Vi Part 1 Downfall
While Shakespeare is often regarded as one of the most successful playwrights of history, even the
greats have their downfalls. Henry the VI Part 1 has been viewed with less esteem than
Shakespeare s other plays, but this does not mean it is not sprinkled with phenomenal characters
and other elements unique to Shakespeare. Specifically, Shakespeare s Joan of Pucelle, or Joan of
Arc, was considered one of Shakespeare s strongest female characters written. Henry VI part 1is a
play often forgotten, abridged, and ridiculed, but despite its shaky performance history and low
regard as a play, it still sits on the book shelves of many a Shakespeare lover and is performed,
however slim those performances may be. Throughout time the play has been performed,... Show

The play is said to have a lack of literary sophistication and is oft neglected and rarely performed
(Dell). Little is said about the failed play and performances are rare and hard to find (Dell). A
Google search on the play will only bring up results from one TV based on the play and one or
two mediocre performances and forgotten films before that. James Cooray Smith wrote a piece
criticizing the play and it s many downfalls. The play, obviously not one Shakespeare s best, was
not performed after Shakespeare s death till the 1700 s. Henry VI Part 1 is the least performed of
all the history plays and is one of the least performed Shakespeare plays in general. In fact, it was
so rarely performed that it was not even possible for one person to have seen the play twice in
their lifetime until 1953. Often, Henry VI Part 1 is not performed in full and instead a few
critical scenes are added to Henry VI Part 2. The play adds very little to the Henry VI series so
few give it much thought. More likely than not the play is looked on as a poorly written prequel
which was unlikely even written by Shakespeare

How Does Leo Tolstoy Use Direct Characterization In Anna...
Use Of Indirect Characterization in Anna Karenina
Russian author, Leo Tolstoy, is famous for his novels, among them, Anna Karenina . It is said that
Tolstoy reaches unsurpassed perfection in the realistic art of the novel with Anna Karenina .
In the novel Anna Karenina , Tolstoyleads the reader through Anna Arkadyevna Karenin s life and
all the people who surround her. The reader follows Anna as she sorts out a fightbetween her
brother Stepan and his wife Dolly. Next the reader finds themselves trailing Anna as she dances
away from a Moscow ball with Count Vronsky s heart. The path this novel takes then forks as the
reader begins to follow Levin and his pursuit of the young and beautiful Kitty who was once a

Instead of being hurt, denying, defending himself, begging for forgiveness, instead of remaining
indifferent even . . . his face utterly involuntary assumed its habitual, good humored, and therefore
idiotic smile (5 6). Even though Stepan s in a bad situation, his nature forces him to smile.
The reader becomes more aware of Stepan s good natured personality when he shows kindness to
his friend Levin after he approaches Stepan at a political council meeting. Well lets go into my
room, said Stepan Arkadyevitch who knew his friends sensitive and irritable shyness (29).
With the character Levin, Tolstoy once again cleverly uses indirect characterization to allow the
reader to look inside of him. When Levin falls into the story, he has just been caught sneaking
into the political council without permission. Usually, men of good character would not need, or
simply would not want to be sneaking into places where their presence is not invited. Levin is
also a large man who is strongly built. The stereo type of large men is that they are confident,
loud, and even boisterous. As the reader learns of Levin s love for Kitty, their opinion soon
changes. Indirect characterization shows that Levin is actually a humble man. When thinking of
Kitty and her feelings for him, Levin s thoughts said, He heard that women often did care for ugly
and ordinary men, but he did not believe it (39). Levin believes

Social networking:
Social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups, like small rural communities
or a neighborhood subdivision... if you will. Although social networking is possible in person,
especially in schools or in the workplace, it is most popular online. This is because unlike most
high schools, colleges, or workplaces, the internet is filled with millions of individuals who are
looking to meet other internet users and develop friendships and business relationships, too.
When it comes to online social networking, websites are commonly used. These websites are
known as social sites. Social networking websites function like an online community of internet
users. Depending on the website in question, many of these online community members share a
common interest such as hobbies, religion, or politics. Once you are granted access to a social
networking website you can begin to socialize. This socialization may include reading the profile
pages of other members and possibly even contacting them.

Mankind s interrelation with manufacturing systems has a long history. Nowadays we see
manufacturing systems and their applications as systems in which goods are produced and

everything we consume or obtain is produced at some facilities. We are also aware of the fact that
many components involve at these processes such as laborers, capital, and machines. Nevertheless,

This machine was so simple that it had no moving parts. It also used up lots and lots of coal just to
pump a small quantity of water. (Phil Shapiro) Nevertheless, Thomas Savery became the first man
to produce a workable apparatus for raising water. In detail, Savery s apparatus was able to draw
water up by suction to a height of approximately twenty six to twenty eight feet. The water was
able to reach this height due to atmospheric pressure and the condensation of steam within the
closed vessel. Savery was the first to make the necessary connection between steam power and
atmospheric pressure. Without adding in atmospheric pressure, steam power may have never been
harnessed. (Robert H. Thurston) Savery became the first to put the method of raising water by fire
to use for draining mines. To say it was a steam enginethat would be to stretch the world engine
far beyond its current meaning. However, it would be fair to say that Savery was the first person
to find a practical way of using steam to perform useful work.
The next milestone in the history of the steam engine was a result of the work of Thomas
Newcomen, who was not quickly recognized for his achievements or contributions to the steam
engine. His engine was introduced in 1712 and was basically a combination of the boiler used in
Savery s engine with a cylinder and pump. The Newcomen model was unlike other engines up to
this time. It was the first engine that was actually

Social Aspects Of Islam Mohammed
I have a feeling that talking about this rather sensitive topic will raise hell and will indeed upset
many who actually deeply believe that their bloodline goes back to the Prophet of Islam
Mohammed (PBUH). However, I strongly believe that it is about time that we talk about this
phenomenon, which only congregate our ignorance and backwardness.
Growing in a conservative and religious environment, many social aspects of life in Morocco did
not make sense to my head, and my brain could and will never be able to digest how the vast
majority of Moroccans, regardless their social status, believe that they have all a sacred lineage to
the Holy House. They believe that their bloodline takes all the way back to the Prophet. This
includes the rich and the poor, the educated and the illiterate; they all claim some type of holiness
and show it off when opportunities occur and permit.
In a previous analysis, I talked about how Islam has been widely and abusively used throughout
Moroccan history to gain power and wealth. This has been proven and recorded in history books.
Each ruling dynasty used the banner of religion to overthrow the declining and fading dynasty.
When Islam was introduced to humanity, it introduced a doctrine, which promotes a social
equality and called for abolishing of social differences. Islam praises those who do good deeds and
abide by the Divine rules set by the Deity and His Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). There is no

His idea was successful because he was soon accepted into Utah s medical school where he
earned a degree in the year 1976. Sadly, his father passed away after suffering from an aneurysm
shortly after Robert received his degree. As he was attending the medical school in Utah, there
were already artificial heart designs that were in the process of being developed. The problem
behind the early designs was developing a pump that had a sufficient power source. Robert
Jarvik was on the right path to becoming a successful inventor devoted to helping people around
the world. While Robert was operating with the institution, the team he was working with had
developed the Kwann Gett heart . This device acted as a pumping device with a rubber
diaphragm that would move blood in and out as if it were an actual heart. The team tested animals
with this first instead of humans and they soon found out that the problem with it was that it
caused unnecessary clotting which could ultimately have lead the patient to death instead of
correcting their health problem with their heart. Robert was able to create a new and improved
version of the artificial heart which was called the, Jarvik 3 . This corrected the clotting flaw that
the other artificial heart had by substituting the rubber of the synthetic heart for three malleable
sheets of polyurethane also known as biomer. Later on, he was able to develop a device that was to
succeed the Jarvik 3 .

on his experience with semi automatic weapons and his research of past violence in the United
States, Caputo makes a compelling argument to justify outlawing mass destruction firearms.
Caputo has had first hand experience with the harm that semi automatic firearms have. He served a
tour of duty with a Marine Rifle Company in Vietnam and was seriously wounded by an AK 47.
He is intimately aware of the design of what these weapons are meant to do. These weapons are
made to kill people; as many as possible, as quickly as possible (Caputo). According to Caputo s
experience, it is shown that he is aware of the repercussions that these weapons have and what they
can do. Caputo, being a hunter who owns shotguns and rifles, says it is prohibited to bring a
weapon of mass destruction into the fields. A semi automatic 9mm handgunis not meant to injure
or severely wound, it is meant to kill no matter what the cost. For example, the use of semi
automatic firearms outside of the military and the federal government could be extremely
detrimental to many civilians and their everyday lives. Most

4.There are some important places with different settings. The first is the Clutters house in
Holcomb, Kansas. Capote describes it in the first paragraph of the book as a quiet place where
nothing much happens; The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of western Kansas,
a lonesome area that other Kansans call out there.
Another place where the story leads us, is Mexico. The murderes Richard Hickock and Perry Smith
flee to Mexico to avoid being caught. Especially Smith has high expectations of the country,
expectations that are not based on reality and Mexico ends up being a disappointment.
Mexico is being described like one would expect. It is hot and sandy; A dusty road winding into and

They were found guilty for murder. And finally they were hung, for a murder and a robbery with a
profit of $50. The execution takes place at January the 14th; the Kansas Supreme Court decreed that
their lives must end between midnight and 2: 00 a. m., Wednesday, April 14, 1965.
The entire story took place between 1959 and 1965.
6.Hickock and Smith were the murderers, but Capote writes more about Smith, so he is
probably the main character. He had a rough childhood: his parents left him when he was only a
small child. It is even said that he has been abused by nuns. He also speaks about a dream he has
frequently. It is about a bird that will save him from this world and kill al the people that bullied
him during his childhood. It is because of these events and toughts you eventually feel sorry for
Smith. He does not seem to be a bloody killer, but rather a nice guy with bad luck. He is tiny and
big muscled (as seen on the picture).

Essay on Memorable Moments In Mark Twain s Huck Finn
Mark Twain s famous novel, Huckleberry Finn, was published in 1855. The story was based off a
character that was an ornery and crazy boy, but still had a kind heart. In the time period of the
novel it was during the movement of slaves becoming their own people, and regaining their
freedom. This was a hard concept for the people of America to accept. The story follows Huck as
he helps free Jim, a slave who had escaped due to the fact that he was going to be sold. This idea
for a novel was a very different idea, and had been one of the first novels to be publicly banned; yet
Mark Twainwas at peace with it because he understood it would bring up his sales. Huck Finn has
an important moral message throughout the novel, and Huck grows into a... Show more content on

Through the novel you see an internal battle of will for Huck, and all of the fighting inside of
his head starts off from the very first, and last prank he plays on Jim. The scene of Jim s near
death experience with the snake is vital for Huck s maturity to be finally kicking in. He sees Jim
as a true person, and the fact that he would jeopardize someone s life like that scared him into
becoming more of a mature young man. Thus, he helps Jim in any situation that comes across as
trouble. For example, the Duke and King when they turned him in, Huck went and pretended to be
Tom Sawyer to retrieve Jim back. He even went through extravagant events in towns to help out
Jim. In the novel, Huckleberry Finn, the two characters Jim and Huck grow closer than ever
over their crazy adventure on the little raft. It all of their connections start because of the prank,
the silly rattlesnake prank. Jim felt touched that Huck cared enough to feel a lot of remorse after
his prank that the next part of the book Jim tells him a personal story about his child. Overall, the
prank that was to just start out a novel had evolved into a great friendship between a traditional
southern boy, and a slave who desires his freedom. They endure multiple problems together, and
seem to always be there for each other, all because of the trust built from a ridiculous snake prank.

In 1898, the Americans won the Spanish American War, and signed the Treaty of Paris, which
ceded both Cuba and the Philippines, among others, to the US for the sum of 20 million dollars.
The two countries, which are both islands, have a tropical climate almost all year round. They
were both part of the Spanish empire for almost 400 years. Both Cuba and the Philippines have the
natural resources nickel, cobalt, timber, salt, copper, and petroleum. Additionally, these nations are
both well educated, with over 95% of their population over 15 years old able to read and write.
In 1492, Cuba was discovered by Christopher Columbus, and thus became a Spanish colony. The

The Characteristics Of Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie became one of the wealthiest men in the entire world, primarily due to his steel
company. He lived from 1835 to 1919, and his industry grew in the time of the Gilded Age, a period
marked by industrial and economic growth. Carnegie had many different attributes, making it
difficult for historians to characterize him. Some argue that he was a robber baron (someone who
uses immoral techniques to gain wealth), a philanthropist (someone who donates money for the
good of others), or a captain of industry (someone who becomes very rich through business). While
aspects of the robber baron and philanthropist characterizations are true, Carnegie was a successful
businessman first and foremost. Carnegie was an intelligent and consequentialist... Show more

He made his successful workers into his partners, as [n]othing delighted Carnegie more than to
see the man whom he had lifted from a puddler s furnace develop into a millionaire. This
motivation likely stemmed from his own poor upbringing and success in life. In his essay titled
Gospel of Wealth, Carnegie encouraged wealthy people to give money to the public and
suggested seven fields in which to invest the money. In another essay, called The Advantages of
Poverty, he provided insight into one of his motivations for philanthropy, by claiming wealthy
philanthropists can find refuge from self questioning in the thought of the much greater portion
of their means which is being spent on others. Carnegie also believed that when his mind was
solely preoccupied with making the largest possible amount of money as quickly as possible, he
was degrad[ing himself] beyond hope of permanent recovery. Carnegie was particularly
interested in giving libraries to various towns, but this quickly became a business like gift. First,
there was an application process the town had to go through. Then, only gifting the building of
the library, Carnegie would demand that the town collect taxes to pay for the books and
maintain the library (which usually cost every year about 10% of the amount of money
Carnegie donated). However, Carnegie s library giving had a pattern. After he broke up the
union in Braddock, he gifted that town a library. In a response to a letter from Homestead asking
for a gift, he replied if Homestead would only do something for him, he would be pleased to
build a library there. Towns were so afraid that libraries signified their destruction that 225 towns
refused Carnegie s offer of a library, as his offer was more threat than promise. Indeed, they could
expect to pay a heavy

International Monetary Fund Argentina Project And Its...
The International Monetary Fund Argentina Project and its problems and outcomes
One project of the International Monetary Fund was a series of loans given to the country of
Argentina in the 1990s through 2001. In the 1990s many investors and brokers looked to Argentina
for investments as they rated its economy as one of the world s strongest (Blustein, 2003, Aug 3). It
was at this time that Argentina first started to follow the International Monetary Fund formula for
economic stabilization in development including reducing budget in balance of payment deficits,
raising interest rates, reducing inflation, privatizing state assets, and reducing trade barriers and
regulation on capital flows in and out of the country (Paddock, 2002, p. 158). These policies
helped reduce the hyper inflationary levels that Argentina had reached during the 1980s. This
positive outlook may have prevented a needed change in the economic policies when the effects of
the Mexican peso crisis in 1995 placed Argentina s economy in a brief recession. It wasn t until
1998 that Argentine policymakers discussed the country s finances with a senior official of the
International Monetary Fund who sounded the alarm that the country might be headed for an Asian
style melt down. However despite the warning significant economic changes were not made, in part
due to the confidence that money could be easily acquired from the International Monetary Fund
(Blustein, 2003, Aug 3). In 1999 the financial

Personal Reflective Essay
When I am not working at my grocery store, I coach a high school bowling team. I have been
bowling for many years and coaching for two. Since I took over the team, we have won back to
back state championships. However, with any sport comes strategic thinking between the head
coach and his assistants. Before every match, I and my assistant coach have to create a line up that
obtains stressful strategic thinking. The way bowlingmatches work is that we have a team of six
bowlers and each bowler is matched up against their opponent on the other team. If that person wins
their game, they get a point. The most points at the end of the match wins the match. So, when
writing my lineup, I have to determine which players to match up to the other team s players. I
could put my strongest player against their strongest player and maybe get a point, or I can put my
strongest player against their weakest players and guarantee a point. Also, I could mix up my

lineup is to maximize the probability of my team winning the match. Obviously, the other person s
dominant strategy would be the lineup that the other coach created. The unique solution that I

4. Customer Based Brand Equity
Customer based brand equity (CBBE) approaches brand equity from the perspective of consumer,
helps marketers to comprehend the needs and wants of consumers and inventing products and

A highly salient brand is one that has both depth and breadth of brand awareness (Keller, 2008).
Wonder Air is low cost carrier and focused to offer low fares, it is first consideration for people
who are looking for budget travel, and the airline should strength the routes network.
Wonder Air can also use parent brand resource to build the brand awareness, such that provide the
travel package and selling by Cathay s own travel agency. It can help create trust and positive

Ethical Issues In Genetic Research
As the effects of genes on human physiology and disease are increasingly being examined in
laboratories and clinics across the world, the discussion surrounding informing the family members
of tested patients needs to be explored. Previous research has discovered that certain genetic
mutations can predict with a high degree of accuracy the rate of occurrence of disease not only in
the tested participant but in the family as a whole. One such genetic mutation is a change in the
Adenomatous Polyposis Coli (APC) geneand a corresponding increase in the rate of occurrence of
Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP). Researchers need to address the question of whether or
not to inform the family members of a participant if one of these genes is discovered. In this paper,
we discuss whether the researchers have the ethical responsibility to inform the family of a tested

These adenomatous colorectal polyps will eventually develop into colorectal cancer if a

The Impact Of Marketing On Consumer s Choice And Behavior...
Methodology Literature Review
Abdullah Almarzuqi
Central Michigan University
Introduction Consumer s decisions are mainly influenced by how well they know the product. The
appearance of the product too influences the consumer s choice and behavior. This makes the firms
to use branding as a way to increase customer s awareness on their products. Branding is tending to
be inevitable for the firms these days. Branding has a great influence on consumer s decisions.
Firms are getting a greater challenge to ensure that they continuously remain up to date when it
comes to different forms of advertisement and marketing strategies. This ensures that they acquire
consumer s loyalty, increase the market share of their brands and increase the volume of their
brands they sell. In my research, I will use interview as a methodology that I can use to get more
information from the consumers. I will use interviews to conduct research to come up with a
summary of how well branding impacts the decisions of a consumer. Branding can be defined as
packaging of a product in different ways so as attract more consumers by making it look more
appealing. It helps create a name, symbol or design of a product that differentiates it from the
others. The consumers can identify a product by its branding features. Interview is research
methodology that is used to acquire information from the respondents. It involves asking the
consumers questions directly and giving them a chance to provide

major growths of nanotechnology originated from a simple pencil lead; a humble pencil lead that

The first ever recorded history of graphene occurred in 1859 where Benjamin Brodie mixed graphite
with strong acids (Geim, 2012). He thought that he found a new allotrope (structure) of carbon.
However, we now know that instead of finding a new allotrope of carbon, he found graphene
oxide (Geim). In 1962, German chemist Hanns Peter Boehm picked up where Brodie left off and
produced a residue of graphene oxide which is now known as graphene. They then introduced the
term graphene for the first time in history. He gave the name graphene based on the combination of
graphite, its raw material, and the suffix ene to signify its aromatic hydrocarbon characteristics
(Geim). However, it was Andre Geim and Kostya Novoselov who made a big hit through their
paper in graphene. These scientists from Manchester University discovered graphene through an
unorthodox method. In the book Graphene: Fundamentals and emergent applications, Jamie H.
Warner (2012) stated that how these scientists used a scotch tape to discover graphene. They
started off with graphite of a pencil, and started removing layers after layers until they were left
with a single layer of graphite called graphene. For their ingenious yet simple technique, they were
awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics for their groundbreaking experiments regarding the two

The History of Greek Architecture Essays
The History of Greek Architecture
The architecture of ancient Greece is represented by buildings in the sanctuaries and cities of
mainland Greece, the Aegean islands, southern
Italy and Sicily, and the Ionian coast of Turkey. Monumental Greek architecture began in the
archaic period, flourished through the classical and Hellenistic periods, and saw the first of many
revivals during the
Roman Empire. The roots of Greek architecture lie in the tradition of local
Bronze Age house and palaces. The following paper will cover the basic forms of Greek
architecture.

This era brought about the introduction of both the Doric and Ionic Orders.
The Doric Order, which originated around 400 BCE brought rise to a whole new type of building
technique and style. In the archaic temples, stone gradually started to replace wood, and some of
the structural details of the early buildings appear to have been copied in stone. At Thermon, in
northwestern Greece, a succession of buildings from the Last Bronze Age throughout the sixth
century BCE show the evolution of the Doric temple from a hall shaped like a hairpin to a long
rectangular building with a porch at either end and surrounded by columns. The temple of Hera at
Olympia, built about 600 BCE, had wooden columns that were gradually replaced by stone ones,
probably as votive gifts. The variety of column and capital shapes illustrates the evolution of the
Doric order. The earliest columns had a heavy, bulging profile, and their capitals were broad and
low.
During the archaic period, limestone became the standard building material for foundations, steps,
walls, columns, and Doric entablature. Building such as the famous Temple of Aphaia on Aegina
illustrate the dramatic influence of the Doric order.
White the Doric order became the standard for mainland Greece, the
Ionian colonies in the eastern Aegean were developing a very different system of columns and
entablature based on Egyptian and Near Eastern architecture. The tall slender columns, low

Calpurnia In To Kill A Mockingbird
Calpurnia was at the household of the Finch s all day until Atticus took her home at night. She was
a great influence to Jem and Scout, she basically took the role of Mrs. Finch as their mother. Aunt
Alexandra, a sister to Atticus Finch, was also slightly a mother figure to the children. In the novel
To Kill a Mockingbirdwritten by Harper Lee, Mrs. Finch died when the children were young, but if
she was there, things would have been different and Calpurnia and Aunt Alexandra wouldn t have
had such an influence to the children. Previously stated before is why Calpurnia took the mother
role of the house. Mrs. Finch dies when Jem was six and Scout was two. Jem loved his mother and
misses her but Scout was too young to understand what happened

Gomez And Catullus
Although the thought of repeating history is often followed by a negative connotation, a lot of
the things people do today are similar to the things people did long ago. A lot of the movies
made in the 21st century are just remakes of movies made in the 19th and 20th century.
Similarly, a lot of our music today is similar to poems and lyrics from long ago. Although Selena
Gomez, a 21st century pop artist, and Catullus, a 54 B.C famous love poet, are separated by
hundreds of years, their art is very similar. It ain t me was one of Gomez s biggest hits in 2017.
Having multiple authors, including Gomez, It ain t me follows a nostalgic tone with the narrative
of heart breaking pastrelationship. Catullus VIII is one of Catullus s many poems to the mysterious
Lesbia ; however, unlike Catullus V , Catullus VIII is the chapter in which their love story turns
into a hostile one. In their work, both Gomez and Catullus remember, question, and despise their
love story.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gomez mentions that she had a dream of her and her lover sipping whiskey neat [on the] highest
floor of the Bowery . While Catullus recalls the bright suns [that] shone for [him]... when those
many funny things happened there which [he was] wanting and the girl was not not wanting
(fulsere... soles, Ibi... nolebat). Although toxic, Gomez and Catullus both latch onto what they think
are good memories from the time with their lovers. Both of them can t seem to grasp onto the
reality that their time with the people they once loved, and maybe still do, is

The Quranic And Biblical Story Of Adam And Eve
Kody Ayers
3/11/2015
The Quranic and Biblical Story of Adam and Eve Christianity and Islam are similar in many
beliefs and have many intersecting histories. These beliefs include major points such as a God and
ancient prophets. However, Islam and Christianity vary significantly between their religious written
works. These works are the Bible and the Qur an. The compilation of both in their respective
religions however do point back to God. God being the omnipotent deity in which these religions
believe in. It should be mentioned that although both religions have a God , that does not mean it
is the same God. There are key differences in beliefs, culture and history between the two. These
two religions are considered Abrahamic religions. Therefore they share a similar past and their
records talk about similar topics and events that transpired in the past. To help distinguish some
key points of the two religions, one can compare the works of them, regarding the past. This essay
will compare and contrast the same story of Adam and Eve in the Qur an and Bible and discuss
various key points from both and how that applies to elements of its religion. In the Bible, on the
sixth day of creation, God created all the land animals and humans. God created man in his own
image. In the bible he formed man and breathed life into him. This first human was named Adam.
After Adam, God created Eve. It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable
for him. (Genesis

Questions On The Banking System
Today s banking system very much gives us the hint about the banking system say
20 to 25 years from now. Digitization promises to automate and improve many
banking processes. Yet it s not without peril: customer demands and expectations
are increasing, and technology is fuelling the emergence of significant new
competitors. (www.mckinsey.com)
Banking Transitions Branch banks have historically been the front line of the
customer relationship. But at a time when more than 50 percent of Americans bank
online to some degree, branch banks are challenged to stay relevant.
Customers branch visits have decreased over the past decade as more financial
transactions migrate from the branch to mobile and online channels. Branch banks
are also expensive to operate. As customers rapidly adopt online modes of
banking, branches will struggle to stay profitable using their current model. Banks
are inventing new ways for the branch to cater to certain customer interactions.
Branch banks of the future will focus less on transaction oriented business and
more toward sales, service, and consultancy.
The Likely Face Of The Future Banks
a. Digital Signage and Kiosks Banks of the future will embrace digital signs,
self service kiosks, and other visually interactive technologies to improve
the banking experience and communicate more effectively with customers.

The Characteristics Of Being A Jerk
Jerks; regardless of upbringings, current conditions, or social status, when one is confronted
with the idea of a jerk, certain people or behaviors may swiftly come to mind. When the concept
of a person like Dale, who disregards the needs of others and does not practice courtesy, arises, it
is quite evident that he is a jerk, and therefore, a considerably unjust being. Based on both the
historical analyses of Polemarchus or Thrasymachus and the current standards elaborated upon by
scholars such as Eric Schwitzgabel, Dale could undeniably be deemed a jerk. Jerks see the world
through goggles that dim others humanity. , states Eric Schwitzgabel, in his article How to Tell If
You re a Jerk (Schwitzgabel). Schwitzgabel states that with respect to scientifically recognized
categories of personality, the jerk is very similar to that of the dark triad; the dark triad consists of
narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathic tendencies (Schwitzgabel). Regardless, there are
still many traits of being a jerk that cannot be seen in the dark triad (Schwitzgabel). Narcissism
may regard themselves as more important than the people that surround them, but could also,
unlike a jerk, strive to be the center of attention; Machiavellians believe that other people are tools
to be exploited for personal gain, but in doing so are conscious to their cynicism rather than
ignorant; psychopaths are often selfish and callous, with a tendency to engage in impulsive risk
taking, but jerks

Power Steer By Michael Pollen Summary
I was really excited to read the article Power Steer by Michael Pollen. I ve seen several of his
books at local book stores, as well as different television shows featuring his work. The purpose
of Michael Pollen s article was to educate himself and others on the process of producing
industrial steak in America, and making a financial profit along the way. He felt that Ignorance
was no longer tenable. In doing so, Michael decided to purchase an 8 month old calf numbered
534 for $598. This totaled $1.60 a day for room and board due to the cattle not being weaned yet.
Throughout Michael s educational journey, he was able to learn about the different problems
associated with animal feeding operations. This includes health problems that cattle could cause to
humans, such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was the calving season, which began during the late winter, the spring season, which
includes branding, vaccination, and castration of the calf, and then there is the summer which
the insemination process occurred. During the fall is when weaning occurred and that is when
Michael first met his calf. Michael learned that his calf 534 ate little blue stem, green needle
grass and western grass. Michael also learned the importance of calf s living on the grass instead
of factory farms. Cattle living on farm land had fewer diseases, ate naturally, and had no use for
medications. Cows are useful in helping to prevent trees and shrubs from gaining a foothold as
well as spreading grass seeds by planting them with their hoofs and fertilizing it. The most
important lesson I think is that cows have rumens. The function of a rumen is the ability to
convert grass into protein. Humans don t have the ability to do this as Michael found out. All of
this information was useful in helping Michael learn the life process cattle 534. He was able to
learn about what calf 534 ate, how it lived, and its

Character Analysis of Katherine Anne Porter s He Essay...
Character Analysis of Katherine Anne Porter s He
In Katherine Anne Porter s short story He, she presents several themes that she develops primarily
through the actions of the main characters, particulary Mrs. Whipple. Porter portrays a poor, lower
class Southern family and the difficulties they encounter. More importantly, she centers the story
around the feelings of shame, pride, and an exaggerated concern for appearances through Mrs.
Whipple s s relationship with her mentally retarded son and her behavior toward Him. Other
characters, such as her husband Mr. Whipple and their two able bodied children Adna and Emly
serve to expand the story s themes and highlight the extremity of Mrs. Whipple s actions. ... Show

but behind closed doors he does not get special, or even equal, treatment. When he climbed trees
or later goes to get the bull, Mrs. Whipple is not worried about His safety but what the neighbors
will think if he gets hurt. She is petrified that someone would say she had neglected her duties.
However, when Emly gets cold, she gets His blankets (325). Although Mrs. Whipple makes
grand demonstrations to her neighbors, He seems somewhat exploited in the household. Even
after he becomes ill, he works in the field. After his illness during the winter, He walked as if His
feet hurt Him. The very next sentence, though, tells us that despite this, He was able to run a
cotton planter during the season (329). A genuine concern for His welfare would not lead to such
actions. If Mrs. Whipple really feared for his life as much as she said she did, she would exhibit
and act on a desire to protect him, regardless of whether the neighbors were watching.
Mrs. Whipple s worry about appearances extends beyond her behavior toward Him. When her
brother visits, she insists that they slaughter a pig, despite the fact that the family will need it later.
Instead of presenting an honest view of her family life, she creates an illusion

Symptoms and Effects of Primary Insomnia Essay
Symptoms and Effects of Primary Insomnia The APA Dictionary of Pscyhology defines
insomnia as a difficulty in initiating or maintaining a restorative sleep that results in fatigue, the
severity of persistence of which causes clinically significant distress or impairment in
functioning (VandenBos, 2007, p. 485). The pineal gland in the brain produces melatonin that
works with circadian rhythms, which in time help control sleep (Gillam, 2009). By use of
polysomnography, researchers find that a possible cause of insomina is a longer period of stage
1 sleep and shorter periods of stages 3 and 4. The disorder predominantly exists among young
adults and middle aged people. Population surveys indicate a 1 year prevalence of insomnia... Show

Genetics link to the development of insomnia, but researchers have an uncertainty of how strong
the relationship (DSM IV TR, 2000).
The DSM IV TR (2000) states that insomnia generally affects women and older people; older
people and men have trouble staying asleep, and younger people normally have trouble achieving
sleep. Insomnia usually begins from a stress triggering element. Symptoms causes by the element
may get worse and lead to insomnia (DSM IV TR, 2000). Studies have conveyed two main concepts
related to insomnia: physiological, emotional and cognitive activation and how intense stress
affects the person who goes through times of hardship. If insomnia continues without prevention, it
may cause other disorders such as depression (Alexandru, B. V., RГіbert, B., Viorel, L., Vasile, B.
2009, p. 68).
Treatments
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and pharmacotherapy start the list of the many treatments for
insomnia. Cognitive behavior treatments aim toward adjusting participants thoughts of insomnia
and calming them (Alexandru, 2009). According to studies, CBT is effective for improving
insomnia symptoms in 70 80% of patients, and also has long term effects on the prevention of
recurrence (Okajima, I., Komada, Y., Inoue, Y. 2011, p. 24). Although pharmacotherapy is used
more frequently, it is not confirmed effective (Okajima, 2011). Alexandru (2009) compared a
control group and a CBT group. The CBT group s sleep improved more that the control

Sex Crimes And The Law Essay
The topic that we talked about in the class, Sex Crimes and the Law that really interested me
was the topic of rape. After having the guest speaker that was a Temple student really bothered
me and I thought about it for days. For starters, I think it is absolutely scary that she was rapped
on Temple University s campus, to be exact in Peabody hall and absolutely nothing was done to
help her. This is bothering me the most because I am a Temple student, this happened in her own
room, no one helped her, and her rapist is still out there. I feel horrible that no one even tried to
help and most people even made it seem like it was her fault by saying things such as you know
you wanted it . No one wants to be rapped and the victim should never be to blame. This poor girl
tried to kill herself multiple times. I believe that no one should go through this trauma alone or
even go through it at all. Since our guest speaker, I have gone on a binge of watching Law Order:
SVU and even through about becoming a special victim unit detective for my career. Another
reason that the topic of rapped bothered me was because just recently one of my friends came
out and said that she was raped by her boyfriend. No one even knew this happened until she
made it public on Facebook. For the longest time she was drawn back and really did not hang out
with the group and now I know why. The guest speaker really helped me to understand, just to be
there for her. When she wants to talk she will and not

He could hear music from outside is house when he woke up and when he went to bed. It is recorded that Louis did attend school at the Fisk school where he learned to read and write. How long he attended this school is another mystery. One fact we do know about Louis is that he was arrested on New Years Eve 1912 for shooting a gun. Louis was around eleven at the time, and this was a very serious offense. He was sent to the Coloreds Waif House a reform school on the out skirts of New Orleans. Here Louis was introduced to organized music in the form of the school band. The school band was run by Captain Joseph Jones in a military fashion that was extremely strict. This is where Louis s life changed from delinquent to a disciplined young man this was also when Louis was introduced to playing a musical instrument. The teacher, Professor Pete Davis, first had reservations of letting Louis play in the school s brass band because he thought Louis was a bad kid. Finally Louis was let into the band, and received his first formal training on an instrument. More importantly than the music training Louis received from Professor Davis were the real life ... • 3. China s Economic Success Of The United States In 2014, what had been predicted numerous times throughout the past decade had finally occurred. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), China had overtook the United States (US) to become the world s largest economy, with their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) measured by way of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), where GDP is adjusted to accommodate the relative prices in each market, was estimated to be at $17.6 trillion compared to $17.4 trillion for the US (Fray 2014). This stood testament to the success of the economic reforms in the wake of the death of Chairman Mao Zedong, led by Deng Xiao Ping beginning in 1978, in revitalising the Chinese economyto the superpower status that it enjoys today (Zhu, Webber Benson 2010, p. 9). However this measure of China s economic success is but one side of the coin. According to China s official poverty standard, poverty fell from 65% to 10% in 1981 to 2004 (World Bank 2009, pp. iii v) and while this marked reduction is exceptional, the way these statistics are obtained reveals part of the problem. The Chinese government s official poverty line is one of the lowest in the world and if poverty were to be measured by international standards, in 2005, China would have 254 million people under the US $1.25 poverty line set by the World Bank, the second largest number of poor in the world apart from India, compared to 15 million under official standards. This shows that while China s tremendous economic growth is undeniable, its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Brett Schaefer And Steven Groves Brett Schaefer and Steven Groves believes the United States decision was justifiable. They argue that the International Criminal Court has a worthy purpose, but still has issues that need to be addressed before the United States would join the court. Schaefer and Groves explain the Article 98 Agreement and the American Service Member Protection Act. Also their argument contains the five concerns the Bush Administration had about joining the ICC, but the two major concerns regard the fear of political abuse of power and also the threat to national sovereignty. In contrast, Michael P. Scharf believes the United Statesdecision was unjustifiable. He argues, the conference in Rome attempted to compromise; however, the United States was not satisfied with the modifications. What makes the refusal unjustifiable is because the United States did not want be subjected to prosecutions and they did not want to take responsibility for their actions. Schaefer and Groves argument contains facts. As an example, the International Criminal Courtdoes not have a clear definition of what the crime of aggression is and has yet to define the crimes it claims jurisdiction over (p. 152). This fact supports why the United States decision is justifiable because their military actions could be charged by enemy countries since there is no clear definition of what aggression means. Another example is that the International Criminal Court can prosecute an individual from a country that is not party ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both sports are physically exhausting, demanding all an athlete has to offer to the game. They test the limit of the body and push it into the next level of competition. Just like soccer, water polo is extremely popular within Europe, but in the States the demand for the sport is not as high. It is played in a pool that is twenty five meters long. Water polo unlike soccer restricts a player to the use of one their hands at a time. The player must tread water, while being able to catch and throw the ball with one hand, along with a defender trying to pull him or her under water. The pool consists of two goals, and two teams of seven trying to put the polo ball in the opponents net. Just like a soccer player would use his or her foot work to get around a defender, the polo player uses moves to break free from the defender and advance down the pool. Teams will wear matching uniforms, but since they are in water they wear head caps with their number and team color on it, so they can differentiate the players. Players must survive four quarters of seven minutes, while only being allowed thirty five seconds to have possession of the ball. But once that time has expired the ball is handed to the other team. When it comes to rules, referees are very picky and allow very little foul play. One common ground for both sports would be the use of a ball about the same size. Along with the flow of the game, since players are constantly on the move to either defend the ball, score, or get the ball away from their opponent. On December 7, 1941, Japanese fighter planes attacked the United States naval base located in Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii. The United States was completely blindsided. In detail, Savery s apparatus was able to draw water up by suction to a height of approximately twenty six to twenty eight feet. The water was able to reach this height due to atmospheric pressure and the condensation of steam within the closed vessel. Savery was the first to make the necessary connection between steam power and atmospheric pressure. Without adding in atmospheric pressure, steam power may have never been harnessed. (Robert H. Growing in a conservative and religious environment, many social aspects of life in Morocco did not make sense to my head, and my brain could and will never be able to digest how the vast majority of Moroccans, regardless their social status, believe that they have all a sacred lineage to the Holy House. They believe that their bloodline takes all the way back to the Prophet. This includes the rich and the poor, the educated and the illiterate; they all claim some type of holiness and show it off when opportunities occur and permit. In a previous analysis, I talked about how Islam has been widely and abusively used throughout Moroccan history to gain power and wealth. This has been proven and recorded in history books. Each ruling dynasty used the banner of religion to overthrow the declining and fading dynasty. When Islam was introduced to humanity, it introduced a doctrine, which promotes a social equality and called for abolishing of social differences. Guns Do Kill People By Philip Caputo In Guns do kill people, an article by Philip Caputo on the changes that need to be made to gun safety and gun laws, Caputo brings to light the problem that mass destruction firearms create in our world. Most do not understand the harm of semi automatic handguns, but as someone who has had experience firsthand of the destruction they have, he shows the impact that is made by them. Based on his experience with semi automatic weapons and his research of past violence in the United States, Caputo makes a compelling argument to justify outlawing mass destruction firearms. Caputo has had first hand experience with the harm that semi automatic firearms have. He served a tour of duty with a Marine Rifle Company in Vietnam and was seriously wounded by an AK 47. He is intimately aware of the design of what these weapons are meant to do. These weapons are made to kill people; as many as possible, as quickly as possible (Caputo). According to Caputo s experience, it is shown that he is aware of the repercussions that these weapons have and what they can do. Caputo, being a hunter who owns shotguns and rifles, says it is prohibited to bring a weapon of mass destruction into the fields. A semi automatic 9mm handgunis not meant to injure or severely wound, it is meant to kill no matter what the cost. Another place where the story leads us, is Mexico. The murderes Richard Hickock and Perry Smith flee to Mexico to avoid being caught. It is about a bird that will save him from this world and kill al the people that bullied him during his childhood. It is because of these events and toughts you eventually feel sorry for Smith. The story was based off a character that was an ornery and crazy boy, but still had a kind heart. In the time period of the novel it was during the movement of slaves becoming their own people, and regaining their freedom. This was a hard concept for the people of America to accept. The story follows Huck as he helps free Jim, a slave who had escaped due to the fact that he was going to be sold. Through the novel you see an internal battle of will for Huck, and all of the fighting inside of his head starts off from the very first, and last prank he plays on Jim. The scene of Jim s near death experience with the snake is vital for Huck s maturity to be finally kicking in. He sees Jim as a true person, and the fact that he would jeopardize someone s life like that scared him into becoming more of a mature young man. Thus, he helps Jim in any situation that comes across as trouble. For example, the Duke and King when they turned him in, Huck went and pretended to be Tom Sawyer to retrieve Jim back. He even went through extravagant events in towns to help out Jim. In the novel, Huckleberry Finn, the two characters Jim and Huck grow closer than ever over their crazy adventure on the little raft. He lived from 1835 to 1919, and his industry grew in the time of the Gilded Age, a period marked by industrial and economic growth. Carnegie had many different attributes, making it difficult for historians to characterize him. Some argue that he was a robber baron (someone who uses immoral techniques to gain wealth), a philanthropist (someone who donates money for the good of others), or a captain of industry (someone who becomes very rich through business). This motivation likely stemmed from his own poor upbringing and success in life. In his essay titled Gospel of Wealth, Carnegie encouraged wealthy people to give money to the public and suggested seven fields in which to invest the money. In another essay, called The Advantages of Poverty, he provided insight into one of his motivations for philanthropy, by claiming wealthy philanthropists can find refuge from self questioning in the thought of the much greater portion of their means which is being spent on others. Carnegie also believed that when his mind was solely preoccupied with making the largest possible amount of money as quickly as possible, he was degrad[ing himself] beyond hope of permanent recovery. Carnegie was particularly interested in giving libraries to various towns, but this quickly became a business like gift. First, there was an application process the town had to go through. Then, only gifting the building of the library, Carnegie would demand that the town collect taxes to pay for the books and maintain the library (which usually cost every year about 10% of the amount of money Carnegie donated). However, Carnegie s library giving had a pattern. After he broke up the union in Braddock, he gifted that town a library. In a response to a letter from Homestead asking for a gift, he replied if Homestead would only do something for him, he would be pleased to build a library there. Towns were so afraid that libraries signified their destruction that 225 towns refused Carnegie s offer of a library, as his offer was more threat than promise. The International Monetary Fund Argentina Project and its problems and outcomes One project of the International Monetary Fund was a series of loans given to the country of Argentina in the 1990s through 2001. In the 1990s many investors and brokers looked to Argentina for investments as they rated its economy as one of the world s strongest (Blustein, 2003, Aug 3). It was at this time that Argentina first started to follow the International Monetary Fund formula for economic stabilization in development including reducing budget in balance of payment deficits, raising interest rates, reducing inflation, privatizing state assets, and reducing trade barriers and regulation on capital flows in and out of the country (Paddock, 2002, p. 158). These policies helped reduce the hyper inflationary levels that Argentina had reached during the 1980s. This positive outlook may have prevented a needed change in the economic policies when the effects of the Mexican peso crisis in 1995 placed Argentina s economy in a brief recession. It wasn t until 1998 that Argentine policymakers discussed the country s finances with a senior official of the International Monetary Fund who sounded the alarm that the country might be headed for an Asian style melt down. However despite the warning significant economic changes were not made, in part due to the confidence that money could be easily acquired from the International Monetary Fund (Blustein, 2003, Aug 3). Since I took over the team, we have won back to back state championships. However, with any sport comes strategic thinking between the head coach and his assistants. Before every match, I and my assistant coach have to create a line up that obtains stressful strategic thinking. The way bowlingmatches work is that we have a team of six bowlers and each bowler is matched up against their opponent on the other team. If that person wins their game, they get a point. The most points at the end of the match wins the match. So, when writing my lineup, I have to determine which players to match up to the other team s players. In the archaic temples, stone gradually started to replace wood, and some of the structural details of the early buildings appear to have been copied in stone. At Thermon, in northwestern Greece, a succession of buildings from the Last Bronze Age throughout the sixth century BCE show the evolution of the Doric temple from a hall shaped like a hairpin to a long rectangular building with a porch at either end and surrounded by columns. The temple of Hera at Olympia, built about 600 BCE, had wooden columns that were gradually replaced by stone ones, probably as votive gifts. The Quranic And Biblical Story Of Adam And Eve Kody Ayers 3/11/2015 The Quranic and Biblical Story of Adam and Eve Christianity and Islam are similar in many beliefs and have many intersecting histories. These beliefs include major points such as a God and ancient prophets. However, Islam and Christianity vary significantly between their religious written works. These works are the Bible and the Qur an. The compilation of both in their respective religions however do point back to God. God being the omnipotent deity in which these religions believe in. Digitization promises to automate and improve many banking processes. • 45. The Characteristics Of Being A Jerk Jerks; regardless of upbringings, current conditions, or social status, when one is confronted with the idea of a jerk, certain people or behaviors may swiftly come to mind. When the concept of a person like Dale, who disregards the needs of others and does not practice courtesy, arises, it is quite evident that he is a jerk, and therefore, a considerably unjust being. Based on both the historical analyses of Polemarchus or Thrasymachus and the current standards elaborated upon by scholars such as Eric Schwitzgabel, Dale could undeniably be deemed a jerk. Jerks see the world through goggles that dim others humanity. , states Eric Schwitzgabel, in his article How to Tell If You re a Jerk (Schwitzgabel). Schwitzgabel states that with respect to scientifically recognized categories of personality, the jerk is very similar to that of the dark triad; the dark triad consists of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathic tendencies (Schwitzgabel). Regardless, there are still many traits of being a jerk that cannot be seen in the dark triad (Schwitzgabel). Narcissism may regard themselves as more important than the people that surround them, but could also, unlike a jerk, strive to be the center of attention; Machiavellians believe that other people are tools to be exploited for personal gain, but in doing so are conscious to their cynicism rather than ignorant; psychopaths are often selfish and callous, with a tendency to engage in impulsive risk taking, but jerks ... • 46. Power Steer By Michael Pollen Summary I was really excited to read the article Power Steer by Michael Pollen. I ve seen several of his books at local book stores, as well as different television shows featuring his work. The purpose of Michael Pollen s article was to educate himself and others on the process of producing industrial steak in America, and making a financial profit along the way. He felt that Ignorance was no longer tenable. In doing so, Michael decided to purchase an 8 month old calf numbered 534 for $598. This totaled $1.60 a day for room and board due to the cattle not being weaned yet. Throughout Michael s educational journey, he was able to learn about the different problems associated with animal feeding operations. This includes health problems that cattle could cause to humans, such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was the calving season, which began during the late winter, the spring season, which includes branding, vaccination, and castration of the calf, and then there is the summer which the insemination process occurred. During the fall is when weaning occurred and that is when Michael first met his calf. Michael learned that his calf 534 ate little blue stem, green needle grass and western grass. Michael also learned the importance of calf s living on the grass instead of factory farms. Cattle living on farm land had fewer diseases, ate naturally, and had no use for medications. Cows are useful in helping to prevent trees and shrubs from gaining a foothold as well as spreading grass seeds by planting them with their hoofs and fertilizing it. The most important lesson I think is that cows have rumens. The function of a rumen is the ability to convert grass into protein. Humans don t have the ability to do this as Michael found out. All of this information was useful in helping Michael learn the life process cattle 534. He was able to learn about what calf 534 ate, how it lived, and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Character Analysis of Katherine Anne Porter s He Essay... Character Analysis of Katherine Anne Porter s He In Katherine Anne Porter s short story He, she presents several themes that she develops primarily through the actions of the main characters, particulary Mrs. Whipple. Porter portrays a poor, lower class Southern family and the difficulties they encounter. More importantly, she centers the story around the feelings of shame, pride, and an exaggerated concern for appearances through Mrs. Whipple s s relationship with her mentally retarded son and her behavior toward Him. Other characters, such as her husband Mr. Whipple and their two able bodied children Adna and Emly serve to expand the story s themes and highlight the extremity of Mrs. Whipple s actions. ... In addition, Mrs. Whipple shows public concern for her son, but behind closed doors he does not get special, or even equal, treatment. When he climbed trees or later goes to get the bull, Mrs. Whipple is not worried about His safety but what the neighbors will think if he gets hurt. She is petrified that someone would say she had neglected her duties. However, when Emly gets cold, she gets His blankets (325). Although Mrs. Whipple makes grand demonstrations to her neighbors, He seems somewhat exploited in the household. Even after he becomes ill, he works in the field. After his illness during the winter, He walked as if His feet hurt Him. The very next sentence, though, tells us that despite this, He was able to run a cotton planter during the season (329). A genuine concern for His welfare would not lead to such actions. If Mrs. Whipple really feared for his life as much as she said she did, she would exhibit and act on a desire to protect him, regardless of whether the neighbors were watching. Mrs. Whipple s worry about appearances extends beyond her behavior toward Him. When her brother visits, she insists that they slaughter a pig, despite the fact that the family will need it later. • 48. Symptoms and Effects of Primary Insomnia Essay Symptoms and Effects of Primary Insomnia The APA Dictionary of Pscyhology defines insomnia as a difficulty in initiating or maintaining a restorative sleep that results in fatigue, the severity of persistence of which causes clinically significant distress or impairment in functioning (VandenBos, 2007, p. 485). The pineal gland in the brain produces melatonin that works with circadian rhythms, which in time help control sleep (Gillam, 2009). By use of polysomnography, researchers find that a possible cause of insomina is a longer period of stage 1 sleep and shorter periods of stages 3 and 4. The disorder predominantly exists among young adults and middle aged people. Population surveys indicate a 1 year prevalence of insomnia... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Genetics link to the development of insomnia, but researchers have an uncertainty of how strong the relationship (DSM IV TR, 2000). The DSM IV TR (2000) states that insomnia generally affects women and older people; older people and men have trouble staying asleep, and younger people normally have trouble achieving sleep. Insomnia usually begins from a stress triggering element. Symptoms causes by the element may get worse and lead to insomnia (DSM IV TR, 2000). Studies have conveyed two main concepts related to insomnia: physiological, emotional and cognitive activation and how intense stress affects the person who goes through times of hardship. If insomnia continues without prevention, it may cause other disorders such as depression (Alexandru, B. V., RГіbert, B., Viorel, L., Vasile, B. 2009, p. 68). Treatments Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and pharmacotherapy start the list of the many treatments for insomnia. Cognitive behavior treatments aim toward adjusting participants thoughts of insomnia and calming them (Alexandru, 2009). According to studies, CBT is effective for improving insomnia symptoms in 70 80% of patients, and also has long term effects on the prevention of recurrence (Okajima, I., Komada, Y., Inoue, Y. 2011, p. 24). • 49. Sex Crimes And The Law Essay The topic that we talked about in the class, Sex Crimes and the Law that really interested me was the topic of rape. After having the guest speaker that was a Temple student really bothered me and I thought about it for days. For starters, I think it is absolutely scary that she was rapped on Temple University s campus, to be exact in Peabody hall and absolutely nothing was done to help her. This is bothering me the most because I am a Temple student, this happened in her own room, no one helped her, and her rapist is still out there. I feel horrible that no one even tried to help and most people even made it seem like it was her fault by saying things such as you know you wanted it . No one wants to be rapped and the victim should never be to blame. This poor girl tried to kill herself multiple times. I believe that no one should go through this trauma alone or even go through it at all. Since our guest speaker, I have gone on a binge of watching Law Order: SVU and even through about becoming a special victim unit detective for my career. Another reason that the topic of rapped bothered me was because just recently one of my friends came out and said that she was raped by her boyfriend. No one even knew this happened until she made it public on Facebook. For the longest time she was drawn back and really did not hang out with the group and now I know why. The guest speaker really helped me to understand, just to be there for her. When she wants to talk she will and not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
