Essay On Teacher Community Assistant
Evaluating the Teacher Community Assistant Initiative in Ghana
Over the last decade, millions more children in developing countries have gained access to primary
school education. Despite this achievement, a large number of children enrolled in their first years
of school are still not learning how to read, write, or do basic math. Building on previous research,
researchers in this study evaluated the impact of several targeted instruction programs on the
learning outcomes of primary school students in Ghana s public schools. Researchers found
significant improvements in numeracy and literacy on average, with regional variations. Of four
interventions, in school and after school remedial lessons delivered by Teacher Community
Assistants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the obvious need for improvements to the education system, the Ghana government is
already investing a large portion of its budget into schools. Ghana spends approximately 30 percent
of its budget on education, with 99 percent of Ghana s contributions going toward salaries. There
is, therefore, a great need for cost effective strategies to improve students learning levels in Ghana.
Details of the Intervention
IPA partnered with Ghana Education Services, Ghana National Association of Teachers, and the
National Youth Employment Program, to develop and evaluate the Teacher Community Assistant
Initiative (TCAI).
The initiative recruited teaching assistants from high school graduates in local communities and
placed them into government primary schools across Ghana. Because the gap in academic
performance between the strongest and weakest pupils grows from first to third grade, the initiative
focused on pupils in grades 1 3 in government schools.
The first phase of TCAI tested four different programs, reaching 25,000 pupils. Five hundred
schools across 42 districts, chosen to be nationally representative, were randomly assigned to one
of five groups:
In school remedial TCAs: Teacher community assistants taught remedial classes during school
hours, with a focus on basic literacy and numeracy skills. The remedial sessions were targeted to
the weakest pupils in first through third grades. (100 schools)
After school remedial TCAs: Teacher

Comparing John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men is a book written by John Steinbeck in the year 1992, transformed into a film. It
seems as if the book itself is coming alive while following along with the movie. This movie acts
as a front row seat for you to witness and embark on the journey with George and Lennie. These
are two men that differ greatly from each other, but both find a common interest in the other.
George a well rounded young man, not quick to talk but is always ready to work. While his
clueless companion Lennie Small followed close behind. This 1920 s film with John Malkovich
and Gary Sinise had several things going for it. These actors did a great job acting the roles to
their full potential. Gary Sinise the actor playing George was also the director

Partita Number Three In Ethhereal Music
Bach s Gavotte En Rondeaux from the Partita Number Three in E Major is one of my favorites,
Heidi said. They lingered beside the violinists for a while to hear the mesmerizing sounds.
Certainly, the quality of the ethereal music was as excellent as from any orchestra in the world.
The nonpareil musicians wore matching T shirts with the words Soul and Mate set against the
vivid colors of the Jamaican flag. Behind the violinists were two frayed green backpacks bulging
with all their worldly possessions. On the ground beside them was an open, battered brown violin
case with the words Gabriel and Rafaela on the inside in shiny gold thread. As Surina and Heidi
threw a few coins into the empty violin case, the male violinist, most

The Use of Distortion as a Literary Device in George...
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an excellent example of distortion as a literary device. The
story is set up as a fable using a third person objective viewpoint and personification of animals to
represent historical figures and stereotypes. Distortion can also be found in much of the
symbolism throughout the novel. Similar to a fable, Animal Farm makes use of personification.
In the story, farm animals are used to represent different classes of people, from the average
working man to government officials and police or military personnel. This element of the novel
goes deeper, when the pigs on the farm begin to resemble historical figures such as Joseph Stalin
and Leon Trotsky, of Russia. Through distortion of character, Orwell brings... Show more content

This brings the reader to the level of the working class animals and instills a sense of uncertainty
and disillusionment that is felt by most of the characters in the story. In the beginning, the
animals are excited by Major s talk of rebellion against Mr. Jones and through Orwell s objective
point of view, the same feeling of insurrection is passed on to the audience. As the pigs weave an
intricate web of lies and scandal, the reader gets the sense that not all is well in the same way the
animals do. The difference between the animals and ourselves lies in intelligence. The author
deliberately makes the characters dumber than the average person, allowing us to see through the
deception of the pigs, without the use of a third person omniscient viewpoint. Symbolically, Animal
Farm itself is supposed to represent Russia and the Soviet Union under Communist control. The
farm in today s world, being a small, self sustaining entity may relate to current conditions in
North Korea. It seems that Kim Jong il, like the pigs, is much more equal than his subjects. Kim
and Napoleon seem to share the paranoia of being attacked by more powerful rivals, and both it
seems, have a desire to keep their respective nations in the dark. Perhaps less specifically, the farm
could represent human society as a whole. As mentioned earlier, the characters display an entire
spectrum of human classes and stereotypical personalities.
The way the pigs altered the seven commandments

American Hero Definition
Over time an American hero comes in all different ways. As a society, there are all kinds of
people that have different backgrounds, participate or do things, and we look at them as an
American hero. It can be someone who does something courageous but doesn t allow fear to stop
them from anything even if they are putting themselves in danger. More than ever before, each of
us individually have our own way of genuinely recognizing who is a herofor us, and what we really
think makes a hero, a hero. In this case, an American hero for me happens to be an American team.
The U.S Women s soccer team to be exact, these women are what is a true definition of an
American hero. They stand to be an American hero because they are representing our country

FC Dallas Research Paper
I went to the FC Dallas game a couple of weeks ago to enjoy the sport I love most, but at Toyota
Stadium, Major League Soccer does not feel so major league. You may wonder why and the
answer is simple: the fans. The attendance of FC Dallas has been stuck in the bottom third since
the inception of MLS and yet, FCD is currently one of, if not, the best team in the league this
season. The youth academy system is rated number one because the last two seasons FCD led
the league in minutes played by homegrown players. You would think this would translate into
financial gain and spring them into the exosphere of the MLS, but FC Dallas does not get the
national coverage like the New York, Seattle, LA, or Orlando clubs receive on ESPN or FOX
Sports, the budget and revenue does allow for growth, they cannot sign a major European star, and
they are never in the MLS match of the week. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ownership? Commissioner Don Garber? Actually, it is none of the above. If you asked me the
same question a decade ago, the answer would be the ownership and their planning. Toyota
Stadium is built as one of the worst stadiums in the league because it is ugly, it has no roof, the
location is not even in Dallas (should be called FC Frisco), and it is dug in like a dog would do
with his bone....under ground (Ownership is planning to renovate Toyota Stadium....still waiting
for some results). Also, the team was God awful. The team s philosophy of football was mind
boggling boring. FC Dallas has changed their footballing philosophy and today, it is the fan s fault
that FC Dallas does not feel so major

Music of the South
As you are driving down the road of the countryside of the American South, you see the dry fields
of grass spread for miles. You turn on the radio and all you hear is country music or the blues. This
is the culture and music of the South. The South has two types of music, country music of the
whites and the bluesof the blacks. Due to the isolation and conservatism of the South, the South
had their own forms of rural music. First, we look at the blues and how grief can become a form
of popular music. Great blues singers include Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, B.B. King, and Muddy
Waters. Secondly, we look at the origins of country music. Examples of great country singers

Apple Inc.
Technology has taken an uprising since the late 20th century to our world today. Everyone

Microsoft, Xerox and Canon have made our lives simpler and possibly much easier, but there was
another company waiting to override the norm and push an industry giant to its limits. Apple

just the people who purchase Apple products can dictate how much Apple can charge consumers.
Who are the major competitors of this company? Because of the continuously expanding horizons
of Apple, its list of competitors seems to grow more and more as the company moves forward. For
example, other companies in the business of selling personal computers based on different
operating systems have aggressively cut prices and lowered their product margins to gain or
maintain market share. It is widely known that Apple s market share in the digital music industry is
far more dominant compared to any other competitor in that market, hence that shouldn t even be
considered a market where Apple faces fierce competition. We must mention Apple s step into the
mobile communications market with their revolutionary product, the iPhone. Apple faces many well
established competitors, but despite the appeal of their product, they cannot win over the whole
market because of its price, and because of the imitations other competitors make of the iPhone.
This essentially reduces Apple s chance to completely take over the mobile communications market.
What are the core competencies of this company and how are these used to competitive advantage?
Apple is unique in the sense that

The Law And Ethics Of An Mba Program
More institutions of higher education are adding law and ethics curriculum to the lists of required
courses. After the legal and ethical scandals that occurred at companies such as Enron and
accounting firms such as Arthur Andersen, as well as the Ponzi schemes of Bernie Madoff, this
seems like a natural course of action for most colleges and universities. Because society uses law
and ethicsto mold business, it makes sense to teach these in institutions of higher learning, but
should these classes also be taught in high school when young adults are getting their feet wet in
the world of business? It is important to study law and ethics in an MBA program because a
comprehensive set of laws is not enough, ethical relativism and religion lessen the public s ability
to define right and wrong, and elementary schools only teach obedience to laws and rules.
While society enforces thousands upon thousands of rules and laws, understanding the ethics and
reasons behind enactment of the laws are still missing in society. Immanuel Kant said it best in the
Categorical Imperative when he said, All maxims as proceeding from our own [hypothetical]
making of law ought to harmonize with a possible kingdom of ends (Kant, 2009, p. 75). If ethics is
not being taught in conjunction with lawmaking, then people will never understand the reasoning
behind the creation of the laws under which they must live. Ethics and law are deeply intertwined
law is founded on the ethics of the people writing

Duplicity Theory Research Paper
Duplicity theory is the idea that there are two different types of receptors processing two different
types of vision. The two types of vision is color vision and black and white. Respectively each
type of vision functions differently in different amounts of light however, the way in which it is
processed by corresponding cells and structures gives us the complexity of our visual processing
system. The structures involved are the retinain the eye, the Lateral Geniculate Nucleus (LGN), and
the Visual Cortex (VC) located in the brain; each structure allows us to view the three dimensional
colored world that surrounds us.
Visual processing starts with the eye where light is bent and refracted so that the most important
cells can capture it. Those cells are located in our retina which ... Show more content on

This type of convergence shown is called Center Surround Antagonistic (CSA) because three
receptors converge onto one ganglion cell that can be deterred by the horizontal cells that make up
the system. Parasol ganglion cells process black and white light information. Midget ganglion cells
process colored light information. While we might think that colored light and the corresponding
cells would dominate our vision this is only due to the high concentration in our fovea where most
of the light entering our eye is directed to. Rods and parasol ganglion cells are most abundant in our
retinal surface although it seems contradicting. After the light information coming into our eye is
processed and converged through the layers in our retinal it is sent through the ganglion axon
bundle that forms our optic nerve and crosses at the optic chiasm. The translated information
crosses over each other so that sensory information from the left visual field is processed in the
same area and vice versa for the right visual

The Goals Of Spartacus s Uprising
Aldo Schiavone is a full time professor in Roman law at the Italian Institute of Human Sciences
which he founded and directed it from 2006 to 2010. Spartacus is about his uprising and how
became a rebel leader who gets very close to turning Rome upside down with a rebellion lead by
the Thracian. Aldo also sheds light on Spartacuss end goals of the rebellion which hadn t been very
clear until after reading the book. Spartacus was an enslaved gladiator who hoped to turn a
rebellion of slaves into an uprising against Rome, and in doing so launch himself into the political
arena to gain a high position there.

Concluding part one Spartacus has a plan to escape the camp in Capua where he was held,
which was run by Lentulus Batiatus. Spartacus s plan succeeds escaping with a good portion of
his arena companions. According to Plutarch, two hundred prisoners escaped (33). This is
where Spartacus begins to build the army that was used in the rebellion. According to
Schiavone, Spartacus had something different in mind, which prompted him to pursue a
specific goal to build an army and continue to fight (41). Here its provided a temporary goal of
Spartacus that tell us he wanted to build up his forces to fight Rome and what it stood for at the
time. This is exactly what they continued to do throughout part two. They go from village to
village grabbing the necessary supplies and volunteers to the cause. Doing all of this while
fighting off roman troops that are dispatched to take care of Spartacus. According to Florus,
Plutarch, and Appian, Spartacus had a battle against Varinius who was lucky to have survived,
but it still went disastrous for the romans with their lictors who were attendants to the praetors
being captured along with their symbols of command or Fasces showed the strength of
Spartacus s force (51). Spartacus continued to win these battles fought against the romans until
the end of part two. The rebel commander decided to split his forces into two groups hoping to
cover more ground and gather more supplies and troops. Spartacus was head of one group while
his arena Companion form Capua Crixus lead the other. The roman forces would do the same
and divide into group running into Crixus first. Schiavone puts it best Crixus most have been a
brave warrior, but not a capable commander (88). Crixus would fall to the romans in battle along
with a good portion of his men before Spartacus is able to provide support. This would be a blow to

thinking critically so that they can do their job ethically and professionally. I feel that law
enforcement needs ethical training because they deal with so many different situations and how
they react to these situations need to be done ethically and with professional behavior. Ethics

identify various options to address the particular issue involved, make a rational and ethically sound
choice of which option to choose, take prompt action based upon that choice, and accept
responsibility for the outcome (Gleason, 2006). The seminar would stress some particular areas of

Juxtaposition In The Horizontal World
The Horizontal World, as written by Debra Marquart, is the story of an old woman told brilliantly

the upper Midwestern states. It is a land which is readily and easily covered up compared to its

problem #1 and problem #2, respectively, we can see the obvious differences between the optimal
stocking quantity and daily expected profit figures.
| Stocking Quantity| Daily Expected Profit| 1| 584| 331.44| 2| 685| 371.33|
The stocking quantity and expected profits are higher in the second scenario because of the extra
time spent to improve the quality of profile section. By spending the extra time to improve the
profile section, Anna Sheen increased the overall quality of her newspaper, which will, most likely,
lead to an increased probability of demand for her newspaper around the area. This increased
demand will raise Anna Sheen s stocking quantity and the daily expected profits that are associated
with that individual stocking quantity.
Problem #3 A. Assuming the number of hours Anna Sheen will spend developing the profile

Beowulf As A Hero
A hero must do many things to be allowed the title of hero. However, there are some aspects a hero
should not show. If these characteristics are shown, they should not be considered a hero. One
attribute a hero should not display is selfishness. In the Knight s Tale, written by Geoffrey Chaucer,
Arcite and Palamon acted selfishly. They perceived a beautiful lady. They fought for the beautiful
lady. They died for the beautiful lady. Nevertheless, they acted selfishly during this gripping story.
For example, they fought for Emily, the beautiful lady, because neither could live without her.
Nonetheless, neither ambitious young man could bother themselves to question her on whether she
wished to marry either of these headstrong knights. She may not have desired to marry either of
them. Therefore, they acted selfish and do not live up to one requirement of a hero. On the contrary,
Beowulf, the main protagonist in the epic poem Beowulf written by an unknown source, did not
act selfishly. Throughout the poem, he risked his life to fight horrendous monsters to save the
good people living in the area. These actions define Beowulf as a hero. Contrarily, Sir Gawain,
who starred in the book Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, embarked on a dangerous journey. The
Green Knight had tasked him to find the Green Chapel. Before finding the chapel, the tired knight
came across a castle tucked away in the peaceful forest. When he asked to stay for a night, his host
proposed a trade. The host would

Essay on Harriet Jacobs
Harriet Jacobs Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl was written to appeal to an audience of free
white women and to involve them in the antislavery struggle. At a more personal level, it was
written to vindicate Harriet Jacobs, both to reveal her history and to account for it in a public setting.
Jacobs s narrative signals several significant departures from the literary and social conventions of
the slave narrative, a genre that enjoyed widespread popularity in the United States during the
1840s and 1850s. Slave narratives written by men characteristically focused on the heroic struggles
of individuals, lone figures struggling against the injustices of the slave system. Issues of family
and community were often subsumed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, her struggle for freedom is inextricable from her desire for freedom for her two children.
The actual and symbolic geography of the slave narrative moved inexorably from the South to the
North. The southern landscape was depicted in terms of imprisonment, confinement, and slavery,
while the North was inevitably identified with freedom. Once the narrator achieved freedom and
arrived safely in the North, the narrative ended, sometimes very abruptly. The North was often
depicted in glowing rhetorical terms, and one important social/literary convention was that one did
not dwell too harshly on the less than hospitable conditions that fugitive slaves often encountered.
One did not, after all, want to unnecessarily offend the sensibilities of one s hosts, patrons, and
readers. In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, however, Jacobs was very outspoken about the
racism she encountered in New York City and the North.
Finally, Jacobs s narrative is distinguished by its sharp, specific focus on the sexual exploitation
of slave women. Other narrators had touched on this issue to be sure, but none had explored it
with the depth and passion of Jacobs. In this regard, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl was a
political effort designed specifically to help ameliorate the condition of black women in slavery. To
achieve this end, Jacobs had to break deliberately with the genteel Victorian literary and

Suicide By Emile Durkheim
In a classic sociological study, Durkheim (1966) identifies four types of suicide: altruistic and
fatalistic suicides which he associates with pre modern, traditional community and anomic and
egoistic suicides characteristic of modern society. (Kuhling, 2004) The ideas of sociologist,
Emile Durkheim have undoubtedly helped my understanding of suicide of contemporary society.
Durkheim has aided me in understanding the complexity of this topical issue and made me more
aware of the roots of suicide. Altruistic suicide is committed for the benefit of others. This is
whereby a certain individual feels obliged to commit suicide for the good of a group. An example

(Crossman, 2017) Anomie refers to alienation caused by erosion of standards and values which
includes people in transitions such as adolescents. Durkheim s theory based on anomie has
greatly enhanced my understanding of suicide among adolescents today. Many teenagers today
suffer pain and according to him/her they have no reason to endure life s sufferings patiently
(Durkheim, 1951) and therefore revert to suicide as the easiest way out. Adolescence may be an
unsettling time and may be a major challenge for many in contemporary society. Therefore,
suicide amongst adolescents has risen dramatically in recent years for many a reason;

Beauty In Bluest Eye By Pecola Breedlove
Beauty is in the Eye of the (White) Beholder
While working as a tutor for African refugee children recently, I helped an 11 year old girl create
an icon of herself online. At first, I thought it was a harmless activity until I saw she created the
icon of herself to have blue eyes, blond hair, and a great big white smile. I shifted uncomfortably,
asked her why she chose to portray herself with blue eyes. She gave me a puzzled look and
replied, they re the prettiest as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. I immediately was
taken aback that she idealized herself with these white features; a little girl who was so influenced
by the mainstream media of images from Frozen, Disney Channel, and Pixar. Although the

Beauty is equated with happiness and success by Pecola who feels ugly and ashamed of her own
brown hair and brown skin; a contrast from mainstream media idolized beauty. She feels all her
troubles would be solved if she only had pretty blue eyes. However, this brings to question: who
decided that to be white, blond and blue eyed was deemed to be the most beautiful? Racist
undertones of White supremacy are prevalent in Morrison s story as these ideals of beauty are
challenged. The toxicity of this ideal of beauty is especially poignant in Bluest Eye where
Pecola s naivetГ© is taken advantage of in her desperate desire to be happy, cared for, and
beautiful. Her final breaking point, believing she was given blue eyes by a religious man who
claimed to fulfill dreams, is a shocking and disturbing consequence to Morrison s commentary
about racial shame of beauty. Pecola goes mad, still unsatisfied that she has the bluest eyes , and
quickly loses touch with reality after her devastating traumas and rejections. Society has failed
Pecola when she was most in need of help. Pecola s silence about her madness reflects a wider
issue of the inarticulation of internalized racial hatred. The characterizations of these double
standards for beauty are summed up by Morrison in Bluest Eye. The result is a complex multi
level set of identity issues. It is a spiraling downward effect away from happiness when

Disadvantages Of Biometrics
There are various ways to implement biometric using current technology in this world. However,
which suit best for companies that want to implement their computer systems to check their
employee identifications. Also, there are people out there concerns that using biometrics system
will violate their privacy. Let s exam a few implementations regarding the biometricsthat the
technology is currently being used in the workforce. Biometrics have existed for a very long time
ago. People have used it and still used it in today s workforce. For instance, FBI uses Fingerprints
to verify a person s identification. The Government uses CAC Card to identify its employee using
the fingerprint on its chip and passports as well, etc.
Biometric is a system that detect a person s identification using a living person s behavioral
characteristics of that person such as fingerprints, hand gestures, voices, image scan like eyes, DNA
and other facial images. For example, FBI is implemented a new identification technology called
Next Generation Identification system. This new upgrade system will provide faster and more
accurate way to check someone s background like criminal history information for the FBI
agencies, law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies. The Next Generation Identification
checks the fingerprint that matches with the database records.
Another implementation of biometrics is using authentication to verify if someone s logging the
computer at work. Like in the US

A Brief Note On Lyme Disease And How It Affects The Body
I am going to be writing my essay on Lyme disease, because I ve always heard about this disease
but I never really understood exactly what it was. I am one of the many people out there that are
still unaware and confused about what Lyme disease really is and how it affects the body and is
very interested in learning more. By researching more about what Lyme diseaseis I believe it would
give me much more insight about the disease. This essay is a great opportunity for me to get
educated and learn more about the disease and how it affects millions of people throughout the
world. Lyme disease a genuinely normal illness that goes misdiagnosed in several cases
throughout the United States. There are numerous misguided judgments about the infection. The
ailment represents ninety percent of infectious diseases in the United States from 1980 to 1998
with around 112,000 cases have been accounted for from the forty nine states. (Geographic
Distribution and Expansion of Human Lyme Disease, 2015). The main express that has not
reported a case governmentally is Montana. Since not everybody reports the cases the check
would probably be thirteen to fifteen times higher. One study appraises the genuine tally of Lyme
illness cases to be around one and a half to two million. Lyme disease is a bacterial contamination
brought on by a spirochete called the Borrelia burgdoferi. It was named after the man who found it
Willy Burgdoferi, PhD. (A History of Lyme Disease, 2015). A spirochete can

Law School Admission Essay
Summers out schools back in
It s nice to have a break from school; I feel it is a little reward from the hard work all year. From
waking up early, staying up late finishing papers, and most importantly, from all the energy drinks
and coffee you picked up on the way to class to stay awake. But you know what they say: Nothing
good ever comes easy. I m anxious to graduate.
I m currently in school for business and marketing. I went for this because well I feel you can t go
wrong there. I got out of high school, and I couldn t make up my mind so I went for it. I thought
about interior design or detective work; I even considered the psychology route. But I m glad I
didn t. Turns out, I love what I chose, and I can t imagine studying something else.
During the summer I made the decision to finish what I started, but this December, I will be
taking the LSAT: the Law School Admission Test. For those who are not familiar, it s part of the
law school admission process here in the U.S. You re probably wondering, She wants to be a

Ineffectiveness Of Border Control
In recent years, the concept of borders has become focused on the movement of people, with an
increasing number of countries opting for a protectionist approach to immigration. Yet, the
increasing number of casualties as a direct result of these borders calls into question the
continuation of strict bordercontrol. States use bordersas a defence mechanism in the hope of
protecting citizens from criminals and terror. But, history has shown that borders have repeatedly
caused significant human suffering. Borders are also used as an economic tool to defend a
countries market. However, economists suggest borders may be preventing a doubling in world
GDP. The border controlof states is ineffective. It is morally and economically flawed.
Borders between nations are, largely, used to control and monitor the movement of people
internationally. One of the fundamental problems with the border control of states is their
ineffectiveness in preventing and deterring people from crossing borders. The most notorious
border, the Mexico United States border, spans an area of 1,989mi (International Boundary Water
Commission, 2017) and has become increasingly militarised over the years due to the, ever
increasing, influx of Mexican immigrants attempting to cross the border. The US border security
claimed an 81% success rate in preventing illegal immigrants from crossing the border in 2015.
However, alternative estimates suggest that the border security s success rate was in the 40 55%

Why is Brazil, Brazil?
Why is Brazil, Brazil? the first thing that comes to mind is beautiful sun tanned blond women,

the beauty and intrigue of the Amazon rainforest to its world class landmarks. There is plenty to do

Brazil was originally inhabited solely by indigenous people, mainly of the Tupi and Guarani ethnic

INTRODUCTION
The gender division in the food preparation has an atavistic stigma. Men hunted and acquired meat;
women were preparing meat at home and served it to the family. All primitive communities are
characterised by the subordinate role of woman. Food in Douglas classification theory has been
linked with rituals which adherence prevents the chaos and the social destruction. Deep divide
between gender roles in the patriarchal model of society, became a precondition of social order.
Douglas (1971)
This rule still applies to the present society and the kitchen becomes probably the last battlefield of
gender in the western world. In this essay I will present arguments that patriarchal reproduction of

These are institutions which have some overt function other than a political and/or administrative

More numerous, disparate, and functionally polymorphous than the SA, the ISA exert power not

Food and cooking play ideological key roles. State and media reproduce the image of a woman

Effectiveness Of The Rotavirus Vaccine Essay
Effectiveness of the rotavirus vaccine in New Zealand infants between 8 weeks and three years old
Abstract
Background. Rotavirus is a gastrointestinal illness characterized by vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach
ache and a fever. Children less than three years old are particularly at risk of dehydration from the
sudden vomiting and diarrhoea, which can require hospitalisation. A vaccineagainst rotavirus was
recommended globally by WHO in 2009, and it has recently been approved into the New Zealand
immunisation schedule. As yet there are no studies following the effectiveness of this vaccine since
its introduction using New Zealand study subjects specifically.
Methods. In this matched case control study, cases are infants between eight weeks and three
years of age who will be seen in a participating ED with rotavirus, confirmed with a positive
rotavirus antigen test, between November 2014 and November 2016 in New Zealand. For every
case we will enrol 1 or 2 controls who are seen in the same ED without rotavirus and they will be
matched for date of birth (within two weeks) and date of visit to ED (within two weeks). Vaccine
effectiveness will be calculated by 1 minus the matched odds ratio, multiplied by 100 for the
percentage. Aims
To measure the effectiveness of the new rotavirus vaccine against Emergency Department
attendance, or admission, for rotavirus in infants between 8 weeks and three years of age in New
Zealand.
To try and measure the effectiveness of the vaccine

The mining boom has had broad, positive effects on the Australian economy, especially at a time
when the global economic situation was precarious. The growth in exports and investment over the
past ten years have supported increased employment, regional development and increased revenues
for both federal and state governments. Figures from ABS (2014) show that the mining sector
accounted for around 11 per cent of Australia s GDP in 2013 14 where earnings reached 195 billion,
up from 7.8 per cent in 2003 04. Over the past decade the mining industry has grown more than any
other industry in Australia with its industry gross value added increasing by $72 billion in that time
more than 50 per cent higher than the second largest contributor to growth. In 2013 14 mining was
the key contributor to Australia s economic growth, followed by financial services and construction.
A major contributor to the mining boom in Australia was the influx of Chinese FDI within the
sector shown in figure 4 mentioned below.

The Princess Bride Quotes
There are many characters in the book Princess Bride by S. Morgenstern. Some which are evil,
some which are brave, but the real hero in the story is Westley. Westley saves buttercup twice
and he also stops Humperdinck s evil plans that he was going to put forth after the wedding.
Westly is the true hero of the story because he is brave and is always willing to help even if he is
in bad condition. For example, when Buttercup was captured by Vizzini he went and saved her.
He went and fought a giant, and really good sword fighter and even Vizzini himself. Wesley had
taught himself to drink a poison liquid, but still be able to survive. He fought and put his life in
danger just to save Buttercup. Westley trained himself to sword fight very well, because when he
fought Indigo, he won even though Indigo is a very well sword fighter. Westley also won to the
giant Fezzik. Though the giant was much larger than Westley, Westley still won because of the
training he had done. This shows, Westley is very brave and was determined to save Buttercup.

Many people that paddle lakes think they are prepared to canoe a river. Lakes do not have speed
and they do not have the force of water moving around and over obstacles at sudden depth
changes. This unfamiliarity is a potential danger to any lake canoeist. River novices would be wise
to take a canoe lesson with an instructor.
Proper canoe lessons on a river teach how to read water, a technique not required on lakes. A
canoeist that knows what they are looking at makes the best decisions of where to go. Just
understanding what a v spear head looks like helps avoid rocks and knowing that v cones in the
same direction is the deepest channel. Recognizing the simple v patterns on water makes ... Show

Power Of Story Analysis
Wk2 The Power of Story Response
Story telling from the beginning of time has been a past time that has been carried on from
generation to generation. The Talmud is known for the many stories told in the Jewish history.
I remember my childhood years going down south during summer vacations. My grandparents and
uncles and aunts would sit around at sundown and tell stories about our family history. Some were
exaggerated and funny, but for the most part, I learned about how they overcame extremely
difficult times and how to persevere in the face of heavy opposition.
Storytelling has proven to be extremely important in helping to create, first and foremost, a
comfortable atmosphere for learning. In order for Christian education to be effective, a conducive
and non threatening atmosphere must be created rather than an atmosphere that consists of force
feeding information or slamming information down students throats dogmatically.
Today, our pastor preached on the prodigal son. This is a story that most people can identify
with. I know I can because I have personally experienced being restless, reckless, wretched, and
wanting to leave home and live the worldly way. I had good role models at home, but could not
resist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By listening and/ or seeing stories, people transition content from their short term memory to their
long term memory. On top of this benefit, telling a story is an effective way of bridging the
cognitive learning theory and the humanistic learning theory. Both of which must be applied in
order for truth to be successfully understood. Finally, this method of educating is something that
Jesus Christ, the master teacher, employed when teaching his followers and is a method that
Christian educators in the twenty first century must take a hold of and use as they try to teach truth
their generation (Storytelling in Christian Education, n.d., p.

The Banking Concept Of Education Analysis
When asked if a nonfictional work such a Paulo Freire s, The Banking Concept of Education (1968)
is one which continues to bears relevance to modern times, one might be immediately curious as to
which time it was exactly that a generally unhelpful and unfair caricaturization of the entirety of
education was enormously relevant. I am altogether unsure at which point between 1968 and today
the inquirer is referring to, this time unquestionably having a great need for a framework that
dichotomizes arbitrarily the relationship between countless millions of individuals as a painfully
transparent means to cynically serve certain ideological motives. But seeing as though the question
is loaded with this presupposition, I shall not pursue the point... Show more content on

That is in the pursuit of examining how politicization and indoctrination into extremist viewpoints
has become embedded into education. Hardly objectionable criticisms of education that are as old
as education itself are implanted into a revolutionary critical theorist lens. Plutarch in around the
year 100AD posseted that, The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled. He is
describing his misgivings with a situation similar to Freire s Banking concept. These going on
two millennium old criticisms are not original, nor do they convincingly support a revolutionary
viewpoint when Freire espouses them anymore than they supported Hellenistic pantheism when
Pultarch espoused them. Yet when these are exposed to students in Freire s work, many students
find themselves personally relating to his analysis of attitudes held by teachers and their
harmful modes of behavior on an emotional level, similar to a newspaper horoscope reading
Capricorns will feel especially oppressed by their teachers today due to the alignment of Neptune.
Of course a system of oppressor and oppressed and the need for revolution is taken part and parcel
with these surface level unfalsifiable armchair accusations. In this very class I observe people

Reasons Why The North Won The Civil War
The Union won the American Civil War and reunited the country for several different reasons that
changed over time. The North had advantages and successes that ebbed and flowed throughout the
course of the war, while the South continued to make the same mistakes. A combination of Union
success and Confederate failures ended the war in favor of the North and without one of them; it is
hard to judge the outcome of the war. At the start of the war, the Union had a clear advantage in
manpower and resources, which lasted throughout the war. When the Confederacy broke away, they
consisted of eleven states compared to twenty three of the Union. Consequently, the North had a
population of twenty three million while the South only had nine million, three and a half million
of which were enslaved blacks. To combat this, the Confederates had to mobilize a massive
proportion of its population. A whopping eighty percent of military age white men had to enlist.
The South only produced seven percent of all manufactured goods when the war broke out.... Show

Davis was very impatient with those who disagreed with him and granted favors to generals who
best fit his agenda. On the other hand, Lincoln had no issue with replacing Generals to great effect.
After the Battle of Antietam, Union General George McClellan had the opportunity to crush the
Confederate s military. Instead, he remained immobile to recuperate his troops. Furious, President
Lincoln sent a letter the McClellan, telling that I have just read your dispatch about sore tongued
and fatigued horses. Will you pardon me for asking what the horses of your army have done since
the battle of Antietam that fatigue anything? The commander was promptly sacked and replaced
with a more competent leader, something the South struggled to

Human Cardiovascular System
When a person is 80 years old, the average healthy heart will have beat 3,363,840,000 times ( 10
unique and fun facts about the cardiovascular system, 2015). The cardiovascular system includes
the heart and blood vessels that s main job is to carry blood from the body to the heart and vice
versa. The human heartis amazingly the base core of functionality for the human body, without it the
human body would never function. There are three stages in the process of pumping blood
throughout the body.
The first stage of pumping blood throughout the body, is by pumping blood through the four main
chambers of the heart, which are The right and left atrium, and the right and left Ventricle . The
great vessels in the heart include the Superior and Inferior Vena Cava, which brings blood from the
body to the right Atrium, then the Pulmonary artery transports blood from the right ventricle to the
lungs, therefore, the Aorta the body s largest artery transports oxygen rich blood in one ... Show

The blood travels to the lungs where it receives oxygen. Next the bloods drains back into the left
atrium from the lungs via the pulmonary veins and travels to the left atrium. The left atrium then
contracts, therefore forcing blood through the mitral valve into the left ventricle. As it is explained
in human anatomy, and more specifically about the human heart, the left ventricle is the major
muscular pump that sends the blood out to the body s system. As a result, when the left vertical
contracts, in forces highly pumped blood though the aortic semilunar valve into the aorta. From
here the aorta and its branches carry blood to the rest of the body s tissue.
In conclusion, the human heart works in a very complex way, and as human anatomy develops over
the years to have a better understanding of how the human heart works, it is very important that
people have a better understanding of how it

The Character Of Don John In Shakespeare s Much Ado About...
Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing is a play about individuals seeking love. But, the
character I will analyze has nothing to do with love, unless it is the love for chaos. This
character is Don John, an illegitimate prince, forever be in his betters shadows, seeking to rise
from the darkness into the stage of power. Don John, the reincarnation of anti hero in the most
classical aspect of petty and vindictive. Shakespeare introduced Don John in a quiet and cloudy
manner, the most mysterious of the crowd, because he introduced himself as I am not of many
words. then only showed up in scenes of scheming and dissension. Such as, Come, come, let us
thither: this may prove food to my displeasure. That young start up hath all the glory of my

He would stop at nothing to get his way, no matter how ruthless he will get his way, without
thoughts of consequences. Ultimately, this scheme cannot shake his brother s foundation, but only
to provide some displeasures. But, he took the risk to execute his plan for little gains and ended
with punishment. If you cannot give up the little opportunities, how will you have time when the
true opportunity present itself. Don John, a vindictive anti hero, as well as a tragic character, not
only was he doomed to be a stepping stone, he could never rise to the station he aspire to climb due

Correctional officers (COs) are responsible for the safety and security of the facility in addition to
aiding in offender rehabilitation and preventing recidivism. According to Dewa, COs experience
higher rates of job stressand burnout that stem from organizational stressors.
Stress has been defined by Selye as a non specific organic response to situations that are stressful
to the organism. Its presence in a moderated form signifies a normal adaptation to day to day
demands. When it is excessive, it is a manifestation of psychological distress with physical and
emotional reactions, and the symptoms vary depending on the phase in which it is found. In her ...

Description Of My Birthday
What is that one day we wait for all year? Well of course, our birthday. We all wait for that special
day that is our birthday. Our birthday is that one special day that lets us know we are getting
older. We get older each year we reach our birthday, but have we wondered what happened the day
of our birth? I have also wondered what happened on November 30,2000.
The number one thing i know that happened on November 30 is that I was it was my birth day. I
was born on November 30 of the year 2000. That day seemed to be a very sunny afternoon. That
day my parents decided to name me Breanna. They name Breanna means noble strong and
virtuous; the name is the feminine version of the name Brian. The year 2000 was a special year
because it was the mathematical year and also because it was the international year for the
culture of peace. Christmas is also an important time of the year and that is also another event
most people wait forward to every year. In this year christmas wasn t to good for the people in
china because of a christmas party that turned deadly. The party was at an unlicensed disco, and it
caught on fire and ended up killing more than 300 people
I share my birthday with many people but what excites me the most is the to find famous people
that were born the same day as I was. Some famous people I share my birthday is Mark Twain, Sir
winston Churchill, Shirley Chisholm, John McCrae and Ben Stiller. Mark twain was a famous
american writer and was born on November 30, 1835. Sir winston Churchill was a British
statesman who served as a prime minister in the UK. Shirley Chisholm was the first american
black congresswoman and presidential candidate John McCrae was a war world 1 soldier who
wrote the memorial poem named In Flanders Fields that is very well known today, and Ben Stiller
is a famous actor and filmmaker. Some of this famous people have been very important to history
and that s why i m honored to share my birthday with them.
One first fact that I have found near my birthday is that on November 29,2000 there was an oil
spill 26 miles of the mississippi river. The spill affected many areas of the around the mississippi
river. No injuries were reported, but there was some wildlife animals

Online cognitive training opportunities increase as accessibility to technology increases. To
confirm money is being directed in the proper areas, thorough research must be done and analyzed
to attest to this new domain of memory maintenance. The two articles found contrasting views of
the controversial topic of online cognitive training. Based on the quality of the both research

people.

Christopher Matthews Hardball
From the rousing introduction, Christopher Matthews Hardball is presented as a godsend to
aspiring politicians, businessmen, and frankly, everyone alike. Adopting a pompously self assured
tone, Matthews divulges his reasoning about sharing his wisdom collected from his own
experience and other major players of Hardball. However after finishing the book, his audacity
could be forgiven by the enjoyable nature of his work, the information that it provides, and the
uncanny resemblance to Benjamin Franklin s writing style. In the first section of Matthew s self
proclaimed classic and political manifesto, he presents the world of politics (Hardball) through a
series of informative if not redundant phrases, historical examples, and his own experience... Show

Often, the advice stems from the title of the chapter, and then will be repeated or paraphrased
several times for emphasis after each example. In the chapter, It s not who you know; It s who
you get to know, Matthews uses Lyndon Johnson s political career as a focal point. Johnson
throughout his political career would extensively study his opponents, and then would wring
every ounce of their weakness, desires, and political agendas to his advantage. Although he was
not mentioned in the following chapter, All Politics is Local, Johnson, again, could be used as
an example when he moved NASA to Houston, Texas, which helped stimulate the local economy
and provided new jobs to his home state. His predecessor, President John F. Kennedy also
understood the value of local communities, and the favors that allowed him to garner a large
network of dedicated followers (pg. 68 69). With Matthews own experience searching for a job, he

  • 2. Essay On Teacher Community Assistant Evaluating the Teacher Community Assistant Initiative in Ghana Over the last decade, millions more children in developing countries have gained access to primary school education. Despite this achievement, a large number of children enrolled in their first years of school are still not learning how to read, write, or do basic math. Building on previous research, researchers in this study evaluated the impact of several targeted instruction programs on the learning outcomes of primary school students in Ghana s public schools. Researchers found significant improvements in numeracy and literacy on average, with regional variations. Of four interventions, in school and after school remedial lessons delivered by Teacher Community Assistants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the obvious need for improvements to the education system, the Ghana government is already investing a large portion of its budget into schools. Ghana spends approximately 30 percent of its budget on education, with 99 percent of Ghana s contributions going toward salaries. There is, therefore, a great need for cost effective strategies to improve students learning levels in Ghana. Details of the Intervention IPA partnered with Ghana Education Services, Ghana National Association of Teachers, and the National Youth Employment Program, to develop and evaluate the Teacher Community Assistant Initiative (TCAI). The initiative recruited teaching assistants from high school graduates in local communities and placed them into government primary schools across Ghana. Because the gap in academic performance between the strongest and weakest pupils grows from first to third grade, the initiative focused on pupils in grades 1 3 in government schools. The first phase of TCAI tested four different programs, reaching 25,000 pupils. Five hundred schools across 42 districts, chosen to be nationally representative, were randomly assigned to one of five groups: In school remedial TCAs: Teacher community assistants taught remedial classes during school hours, with a focus on basic literacy and numeracy skills. The remedial sessions were targeted to the weakest pupils in first through third grades. (100 schools) After school remedial TCAs: Teacher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men Of Mice and Men is a book written by John Steinbeck in the year 1992, transformed into a film. It seems as if the book itself is coming alive while following along with the movie. This movie acts as a front row seat for you to witness and embark on the journey with George and Lennie. These are two men that differ greatly from each other, but both find a common interest in the other. George a well rounded young man, not quick to talk but is always ready to work. While his clueless companion Lennie Small followed close behind. This 1920 s film with John Malkovich and Gary Sinise had several things going for it. These actors did a great job acting the roles to their full potential. Gary Sinise the actor playing George was also the director ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They lingered beside the violinists for a while to hear the mesmerizing sounds. Certainly, the quality of the ethereal music was as excellent as from any orchestra in the world. The nonpareil musicians wore matching T shirts with the words Soul and Mate set against the vivid colors of the Jamaican flag. Behind the violinists were two frayed green backpacks bulging with all their worldly possessions. On the ground beside them was an open, battered brown violin case with the words Gabriel and Rafaela on the inside in shiny gold thread. • 5. The Use of Distortion as a Literary Device in George... Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an excellent example of distortion as a literary device. The story is set up as a fable using a third person objective viewpoint and personification of animals to represent historical figures and stereotypes. Distortion can also be found in much of the symbolism throughout the novel. Similar to a fable, Animal Farm makes use of personification. In the story, farm animals are used to represent different classes of people, from the average working man to government officials and police or military personnel. This element of the novel goes deeper, when the pigs on the farm begin to resemble historical figures such as Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, of Russia. Through distortion of character, Orwell brings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This brings the reader to the level of the working class animals and instills a sense of uncertainty and disillusionment that is felt by most of the characters in the story. In the beginning, the animals are excited by Major s talk of rebellion against Mr. Jones and through Orwell s objective point of view, the same feeling of insurrection is passed on to the audience. As the pigs weave an intricate web of lies and scandal, the reader gets the sense that not all is well in the same way the animals do. The difference between the animals and ourselves lies in intelligence. The author deliberately makes the characters dumber than the average person, allowing us to see through the deception of the pigs, without the use of a third person omniscient viewpoint. Symbolically, Animal Farm itself is supposed to represent Russia and the Soviet Union under Communist control. The farm in today s world, being a small, self sustaining entity may relate to current conditions in North Korea. It seems that Kim Jong il, like the pigs, is much more equal than his subjects. Kim and Napoleon seem to share the paranoia of being attacked by more powerful rivals, and both it seems, have a desire to keep their respective nations in the dark. Perhaps less specifically, the farm could represent human society as a whole. As mentioned earlier, the characters display an entire spectrum of human classes and stereotypical personalities. The way the pigs altered the seven commandments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. American Hero Definition Over time an American hero comes in all different ways. As a society, there are all kinds of people that have different backgrounds, participate or do things, and we look at them as an American hero. It can be someone who does something courageous but doesn t allow fear to stop them from anything even if they are putting themselves in danger. More than ever before, each of us individually have our own way of genuinely recognizing who is a herofor us, and what we really think makes a hero, a hero. In this case, an American hero for me happens to be an American team. The U.S Women s soccer team to be exact, these women are what is a true definition of an American hero. • 7. FC Dallas Research Paper I went to the FC Dallas game a couple of weeks ago to enjoy the sport I love most, but at Toyota Stadium, Major League Soccer does not feel so major league. You may wonder why and the answer is simple: the fans. The attendance of FC Dallas has been stuck in the bottom third since the inception of MLS and yet, FCD is currently one of, if not, the best team in the league this season. The youth academy system is rated number one because the last two seasons FCD led the league in minutes played by homegrown players. You would think this would translate into financial gain and spring them into the exosphere of the MLS, but FC Dallas does not get the national coverage like the New York, Seattle, LA, or Orlando clubs receive on ESPN or FOX Sports, the budget and revenue does allow for growth, they cannot sign a major European star, and they are never in the MLS match of the week. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ownership? Commissioner Don Garber? Actually, it is none of the above. If you asked me the same question a decade ago, the answer would be the ownership and their planning. Toyota Stadium is built as one of the worst stadiums in the league because it is ugly, it has no roof, the location is not even in Dallas (should be called FC Frisco), and it is dug in like a dog would do with his bone....under ground (Ownership is planning to renovate Toyota Stadium....still waiting for some results). Also, the team was God awful. The team s philosophy of football was mind boggling boring. FC Dallas has changed their footballing philosophy and today, it is the fan s fault that FC Dallas does not feel so major ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Music of the South As you are driving down the road of the countryside of the American South, you see the dry fields of grass spread for miles. You turn on the radio and all you hear is country music or the blues. This is the culture and music of the South. The South has two types of music, country music of the whites and the bluesof the blacks. Due to the isolation and conservatism of the South, the South had their own forms of rural music. First, we look at the blues and how grief can become a form of popular music. Great blues singers include Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, B.B. King, and Muddy Waters. Secondly, we look at the origins of country music. Examples of great country singers include Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, and Randy Travis.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She recorded for many more years and got the name Empress of the Blues . Sadly in 1937, Bessie Smith was killed in an automobile accident. In addition, one of the great male blues singers was Muddy Waters. Waters was born on April 4, 1915 in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. His nickname was McKinley Morganfield Muddy Waters and was raised by his grandmother in Clarksdale. Waters was raised in the heart of the blues music which influenced his life in many ways. At the age of 13, Waters worked at a farm and learned how to played the harmonica. Later, he learned how to play the guitar and mastered the bottleneck style. He recorded folksong with the Library of Congress field collectors which helped him gain experience in performing and also helped improve his vocal skills. Technology has taken an uprising since the late 20th century to our world today. Everyone essentially owns some sort of technological device from cellphones to computers. Companies like Microsoft, Xerox and Canon have made our lives simpler and possibly much easier, but there was another company waiting to override the norm and push an industry giant to its limits. Apple Incorporated, followed an unconventional path to its recent success in the computer industry, despite being consistently dominated by Microsoft. What is the business of this company? Apple Inc. Apple has seemed to always make products which cater to the general public whether its technically or aesthetically. It appeal within the youth might also contribute to their output power. For example just the people who purchase Apple products can dictate how much Apple can charge consumers. Who are the major competitors of this company? Because of the continuously expanding horizons of Apple, its list of competitors seems to grow more and more as the company moves forward. For example, other companies in the business of selling personal computers based on different operating systems have aggressively cut prices and lowered their product margins to gain or maintain market share. It is widely known that Apple s market share in the digital music industry is far more dominant compared to any other competitor in that market, hence that shouldn t even be considered a market where Apple faces fierce competition. We must mention Apple s step into the mobile communications market with their revolutionary product, the iPhone. Apple faces many well established competitors, but despite the appeal of their product, they cannot win over the whole market because of its price, and because of the imitations other competitors make of the iPhone. This essentially reduces Apple s chance to completely take over the mobile communications market. What are the core competencies of this company and how are these used to competitive advantage? Apple is unique in the sense that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Law And Ethics Of An Mba Program More institutions of higher education are adding law and ethics curriculum to the lists of required courses. After the legal and ethical scandals that occurred at companies such as Enron and accounting firms such as Arthur Andersen, as well as the Ponzi schemes of Bernie Madoff, this seems like a natural course of action for most colleges and universities. Because society uses law and ethicsto mold business, it makes sense to teach these in institutions of higher learning, but should these classes also be taught in high school when young adults are getting their feet wet in the world of business? It is important to study law and ethics in an MBA program because a comprehensive set of laws is not enough, ethical relativism and religion lessen the public s ability to define right and wrong, and elementary schools only teach obedience to laws and rules. While society enforces thousands upon thousands of rules and laws, understanding the ethics and reasons behind enactment of the laws are still missing in society. Immanuel Kant said it best in the Categorical Imperative when he said, All maxims as proceeding from our own [hypothetical] making of law ought to harmonize with a possible kingdom of ends (Kant, 2009, p. 75). If ethics is not being taught in conjunction with lawmaking, then people will never understand the reasoning behind the creation of the laws under which they must live. Ethics and law are deeply intertwined law is founded on the ethics of the people writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Duplicity Theory Research Paper Duplicity theory is the idea that there are two different types of receptors processing two different types of vision. The two types of vision is color vision and black and white. Respectively each type of vision functions differently in different amounts of light however, the way in which it is processed by corresponding cells and structures gives us the complexity of our visual processing system. The structures involved are the retinain the eye, the Lateral Geniculate Nucleus (LGN), and the Visual Cortex (VC) located in the brain; each structure allows us to view the three dimensional colored world that surrounds us. Visual processing starts with the eye where light is bent and refracted so that the most important cells can capture it. Those cells are located in our retina which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of convergence shown is called Center Surround Antagonistic (CSA) because three receptors converge onto one ganglion cell that can be deterred by the horizontal cells that make up the system. Parasol ganglion cells process black and white light information. Midget ganglion cells process colored light information. While we might think that colored light and the corresponding cells would dominate our vision this is only due to the high concentration in our fovea where most of the light entering our eye is directed to. Rods and parasol ganglion cells are most abundant in our retinal surface although it seems contradicting. After the light information coming into our eye is processed and converged through the layers in our retinal it is sent through the ganglion axon bundle that forms our optic nerve and crosses at the optic chiasm. The translated information crosses over each other so that sensory information from the left visual field is processed in the same area and vice versa for the right visual ... • 18. Beowulf As A Hero A hero must do many things to be allowed the title of hero. However, there are some aspects a hero should not show. If these characteristics are shown, they should not be considered a hero. One attribute a hero should not display is selfishness. In the Knight s Tale, written by Geoffrey Chaucer, Arcite and Palamon acted selfishly. They perceived a beautiful lady. They fought for the beautiful lady. They died for the beautiful lady. Nevertheless, they acted selfishly during this gripping story. For example, they fought for Emily, the beautiful lady, because neither could live without her. Nonetheless, neither ambitious young man could bother themselves to question her on whether she wished to marry either of these headstrong knights. She may not have desired to marry either of them. Therefore, they acted selfish and do not live up to one requirement of a hero. On the contrary, Beowulf, the main protagonist in the epic poem Beowulf written by an unknown source, did not act selfishly. Throughout the poem, he risked his life to fight horrendous monsters to save the good people living in the area. These actions define Beowulf as a hero. Contrarily, Sir Gawain, who starred in the book Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, embarked on a dangerous journey. The Green Knight had tasked him to find the Green Chapel. Before finding the chapel, the tired knight came across a castle tucked away in the peaceful forest. When he asked to stay for a night, his host proposed a trade. The host would ... At a more personal level, it was written to vindicate Harriet Jacobs, both to reveal her history and to account for it in a public setting. Jacobs s narrative signals several significant departures from the literary and social conventions of the slave narrative, a genre that enjoyed widespread popularity in the United States during the 1840s and 1850s. The actual and symbolic geography of the slave narrative moved inexorably from the South to the North. The southern landscape was depicted in terms of imprisonment, confinement, and slavery, while the North was inevitably identified with freedom. Once the narrator achieved freedom and arrived safely in the North, the narrative ended, sometimes very abruptly. The North was often depicted in glowing rhetorical terms, and one important social/literary convention was that one did not dwell too harshly on the less than hospitable conditions that fugitive slaves often encountered. One did not, after all, want to unnecessarily offend the sensibilities of one s hosts, patrons, and readers. In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, however, Jacobs was very outspoken about the racism she encountered in New York City and the North. Finally, Jacobs s narrative is distinguished by its sharp, specific focus on the sexual exploitation of slave women. Other narrators had touched on this issue to be sure, but none had explored it with the depth and passion of Jacobs. Racist undertones of White supremacy are prevalent in Morrison s story as these ideals of beauty are challenged. The toxicity of this ideal of beauty is especially poignant in Bluest Eye where Pecola s naivetГ© is taken advantage of in her desperate desire to be happy, cared for, and beautiful. • 27. Ineffectiveness Of Border Control In recent years, the concept of borders has become focused on the movement of people, with an increasing number of countries opting for a protectionist approach to immigration. Yet, the increasing number of casualties as a direct result of these borders calls into question the continuation of strict bordercontrol. States use bordersas a defence mechanism in the hope of protecting citizens from criminals and terror. But, history has shown that borders have repeatedly caused significant human suffering. Borders are also used as an economic tool to defend a countries market. However, economists suggest borders may be preventing a doubling in world GDP. The border controlof states is ineffective. It is morally and economically flawed. Borders between nations are, largely, used to control and monitor the movement of people internationally. One of the fundamental problems with the border control of states is their ineffectiveness in preventing and deterring people from crossing borders. The most notorious border, the Mexico United States border, spans an area of 1,989mi (International Boundary Water Commission, 2017) and has become increasingly militarised over the years due to the, ever increasing, influx of Mexican immigrants attempting to cross the border. The Talmud is known for the many stories told in the Jewish history. I remember my childhood years going down south during summer vacations. My grandparents and uncles and aunts would sit around at sundown and tell stories about our family history. Some were exaggerated and funny, but for the most part, I learned about how they overcame extremely difficult times and how to persevere in the face of heavy opposition. Storytelling has proven to be extremely important in helping to create, first and foremost, a comfortable atmosphere for learning. In order for Christian education to be effective, a conducive and non threatening atmosphere must be created rather than an atmosphere that consists of force feeding information or slamming information down students throats dogmatically.
