The Wasp Factory
Obsessed With Killing In the novel The Wasp Factory, by Iain Banks, All the characters possess an
uncommon character trait. The main character, Frank Cauldhame is obsessed with killing. He has been
obsessed with killing since he was a young child, when he murdered three innocent children. His
obsession has evolved into a daily ritual due to multiple reasons. First, Frank s dad has secretly put
additional male hormones in Frank s food since he was a young child. (Frank was born female, but
after years of irregular male hormone in take, his body and mind slowly transformed into male) This
degenerate act caused Frank to react to situations much differently. Frank is also obsessed with killing
because, in his perspective, he has nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He meticulously built the death box with twelve different ways for the wasp to die. The time spent to
build the system, and the daily ritual he follows portrays his obsession. Franks obsession is exhibited
because of a combination of factors. His chemically unbalanced self does not make the decisions a
normal, unharmed person would. His thoughts and actions are different because he truly does not
know any better. He has no one to help him. In Franks persepective, his actions are exciting, but in
reality his actions are immoral and sometimes disgusting. Frank s father is definitely to blame for his
obsession. First, the hormones are the primary reason why his actions and thoughts are so
unconventional. Then, Frank has no rules to follow, another parenting mistake. Due to his secluded
house, Frank got away with every malicious act he

My Family Has Several Values Such As Religion And Education
Jailen B. Leach
Mr. L. Sparrow
English 1100 039
September 16, 2016
My family has several values such as religion and education. Education is something my family has
valued for many years and this is because of my grandfather Bishop Leach Jr. Bishop Leach was born
on September 17, 1924. When he was a young child he joined Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church in Pittsboro,
NC. This church has been very important to my family because we have been attending this church for
generations. Bishop Leach attended and graduated from Horton High School, which later became
Horton Middle School. He graduated at the shocking age of 15. Bishop served in the United States
Army once he finished high school. After serving in the Army, he then attended North Carolina
College, now North Carolina Central University (NCCU) where he graduated within three years and
obtained his B.S degree in social studies in 1952. While in college, he married Myrtle Alston. The
couple were married for forty nine years and had two sons Bishop Bernard Leach and James Benjamin
Leach.
Bishop s career in the Chatham County School System began as a teacher at Horton High School. He
taught there for many years and he touched a lot of people s lives to the point where they tell me
countless stories about him. After his tenure at Horton he got promoted to assistant principal at
Northwood High School after they integrated. He eventually retired from the Chatham County School
System after 33 years of dedicated service. Bishop also

The U. S. And Turkey
Consequences the 2016 Coup brought to The U.S. and Turkey
Historically, relations between the United States and Turkey were formed through mutual respect and
interest. The first U.S. interaction dates to 1831, when the United States established diplomatic
relations with the Ottoman Empire (the U.S. Department of State) in 1831 through the formal act of
diplomatic recognition between the countries. The friendship was strengthened in the early 1900s as
the United States was elevated to Embassy status in 1906. During World War I, however, the U.S.
broke the neutrality and declared war against Germany, a prime ally of the Ottoman Empire for
Central Powers. This incident caused a severity in the diplomatic relations between the U.S. and the ...

However, the state of the contemporary relationship has been unstable through events and the rising
anti American sentiment among Turkish citizens. Despite the U.S. support to Turkey for the security
of the Middle East region and the corresponding benefits through the bilateral cooperation, the two
countries have currently been through several controversies.
As a safety measure toward the Islamic State, the growing presence of Muslim fundamentalism (ABC
Clio), the U.S. militarily has supported the Kurdish armed force in Syria, a minority ethnic group in
the Middle East, to counter against the IS. However, Turkey claimed that the armed force has a
connection to the Kurdistan Workers Party, which has is designated as a terrorist group by Turkey.
Despite the insistence of the country, the U.S. has not ceased the support, creating a split between the
two countries.
A coup attempted by the Peace Council, a faction of the Turkish army, was the most prime
precipitating event that led the contemporary relationship between the U.S and Turkey into a
confrontation. Since Erdogan inaugurated as the president, the approval rate was remarkably ever
increasing through the strong economic conditions. On the other hand, he strengthened the dictatorial
policy of Islamization in the country. Against the stance, the Turkish army believed in the importance
of the separation of religion and politics, thus the relationship with the

Handling The War On Terror
Handling the War on Terror The Global War on Terror, or War on Terror, with the United States at the
helm, is the second most expensive war in American history, having surpassed $2 trillion. At the same
time, little has been accomplished for domestic security or the destruction of terror groups. The United
States needs a clear, focused strategy to suppress terrorist groups, while at the same time eliminating
the causes for terrorism. I propose a gradual drawdown and closing of US bases and garrisons around
the world. I also propose a serious global coalition to tackle ISIS, with a clear plan and exit strategy.
At the same time, negotiating an agreement cannot be overlooked. The GWoT (Global War on Terror)
is recognized as officially starting after the September 11 attacks. It is called global because it involves
military actions, politics, and law against terror groups anywhere in the world. Current hostilities are
being fought by NATO and ISAF countries with countless independent agreements. The main
adversaries of this global coalition are al Qaeda, al Nursa, ISIS/ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the
Levant), and Boko Haram. Despite the efforts of this anti terror alliance, terror groups operate
unhindered and terror attacks seem to be increasing. There are several key problems with the U.S.
WoT strategy. The main one is the difficulty of detecting and fighting guerilla threats. Another key
problem is the rules of engagement and collateral damage. The third and most

The Theory Of Public Relations
Introduction
Scholars all around the world are debating about the question, what public relations is. The term itself
provides a really broad definition. It suggests that public relations is about relationships between the
public and someone else. The question that follows is what kind of relationship and with whom. Since
it is about relationship and relationships are influenced and defined by many different factors, such as
culture, politics, religion and economics, it is not surprising that there have been a wide range of
public relations definitions, theories and practices.
The Institute of Public Relations (IPR), an association for public relations practitioners established in
1948, tried to define the term public relations in 1987 tried as the planned and sustained effort to
establish and maintain goodwill and understanding between an organisation and its public (The

Today the PRSA writes:
At its core, public relations is about influencing, engaging and building a relationship with key
stakeholders across a myriad of platforms in order to shape and frame the public perception of an
organization. (Public Relations Society of America, 2017).
The PRSA has similar to the IPR ignored the mutuality aspect from Harlow. The IPR and PRSA
definition from 1987 and today are similar in the managing aspect, in the sense of the planned and
sustained effort .
The different definitions provided so far show the complexity and difficulty of the term. Everyone
seems to believe that public relations is something similar and still different.
The changing emphasizes shown above and throughout history illustrate that public relations is an
evolving profession and term, which is being influenced by different factors around the

Religious Iconography Essay
Religious iconography has been adopted by all religions around the world. In general, Iconography is
a symbolic image which implies the meaning of a particular subject such as religious and legendary
purpose ( Iconography , n.d.). For iconography of art, the presence of things within the one single
piece of art could hugely convey a meaningful comprehension of a particular religion more
profoundly. And that is considered as one of the significant reasons why artists put a lot of effort to
create an artwork with implication immersed in it. Because the more implications will allow people to
find more information in depth and understand that there are numerous elements which we can refer to
which finally those elements become an icon of a particular religion. For artwork, there is no right or
wrong understanding of perceiving arts. In contrast, for religious iconography, the definition of each
symbol is fixed within their own meaning. As a result, within the word of Iconography, the definition
of it might be easier to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Back then, during Medieval period (5th 15th century) common people was a restriction of accessing to

Early Junior Year Research Paper
Early junior year was a very rough time for me when it comes to the gradebook. The first semester of
the 2016 2017 year I ended up with two F s, two D s, a B+ and a C , which was very, very bad. I
realized this was not what I was capable of and it was not anywhere near my best work. My parents
were disappointed with my actions. It was instilled in me at a young age by my parents that school
ALWAYS comes first. My theater director who taught me all throughout high school was disappointed
in me, and my soccer coach was disappointed in me.
As my dad looked at my grades for the first time his face was overcome with the purest form of
disbelief and frustration and from that moment I know it was over. He pulled me from the Fall musical
and the soccer team that day. This immediately made me realize that my actions had consequences,
and in this case, big ones. I was enrolled in dual credit classes at IVY Tech. We could go there and the
high school would pay for it if we made above a C in the classes. I did not make above a ... Show

I have always known what I m capable of in any aspect of my life. Especially in the classroom, and
this was not it. For the second half of my junior year my grades got to where they had never been

poorly in the classroom. Now, here I am senior year and my grades have stayed where they were when
I left off junior year and in some aspects, gotten a little bit better. I was given a second chance and I
am back at Ivy Tech. This experience taught me that when you are handed a certain amount of
responsibility that you have never had before, you shouldn t waste it. You should take advantage of it

The Great Chicago Fire of 1871
The Great Chicago Fire was a major milestone in the city s history. The fire started on October 8th,
1871 and did not end until October 10th, 1871. People never saw this fire coming which might have
made it even worse. The only reason it spread so far was because everything was made out of wood,
the ground was parched and the wind was blowing that night; the reason it stopped was because it had
started raining. Although the fire destroyed most of the city, it was a positive turning point in history.
The Chicago Fire improved firefighting and their equipment, new buildings that were made out of
fireproof materials, and it brought big investors to the city. There were more than 334,000 people in
Chicago at the time (Burgan). Ninety percent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those industries kept the city s finances stable and employed thousands of people. The fire destroyed
the city s business district, but it left the stockyards and packing plants untouched. The Hog Butcher of
the World processed more meat than anywhere else on Earth. The railroads were also undamaged.
That allowed shipments of aid to come in from around the world. Book donations from England were
part of Chicago s first free library. In 1956, there was a Fire Academy built on the site where Mr. and
Mrs. O Leary s barn once stood. The Academy trains new firefighters to this day (Schons).
The rebuilding of Chicago started immediately, sometimes even before the architect and engineers had
completed their designs. There were laws that were passed requiring new buildings with fireproof
materials like brick, stone, marble and limestone because of the fire. These materials that are way
more expensive than wood were held together by a strong, sticky substance called mortar. The
construction technique using that substance is called masonry and the skilled groups of construction
workers are called masons. Many Chicagoans could not afford the fireproof materials, the skilled
masons or the insurance to rebuild. Without rebuilding or insuring their property, thousands of people
were crowded out of Chicago. Many businesses ignored the new building laws.
There were two events that stopped the reconstruction of Chicago. The first event

The Common Characteristics Of Christianity And Christianity
One may argue that all religions are the same at the core, however different religions advances very
different teachings of the most important subject. That subject is how to achieve the goal of where you
will remain in the afterlife. Islam is one of the oldest religions practiced today. Zoroya (2015), Islam is
projected to grow more than twice as fast as any other major religion over the next half century
because of a higher fertility rate, While Christianity will remain a dominant global religion (para. 2).
Although there are many religions we will compare Islam with the common characteristics of other
major religions.
Common Characteristics
Muslims are people who submit to God and their religion is called Islam. Islam has a monotheism
faith believing in one God denouncing any other messiah or deity. Muslims often refer to God as
Allah, which is considered the universal God not be mistaken of a God of only the Islam faith. Islam is
based on one faith that God or Allah is the creator of the universe and his greatness cannot be
compared with his creation. God is the only one to be praised and only one deserving of worship.
Muslims believe God created man for one purpose, to worship him. Muslims refer to the Quran for
direction of how to live, worship, and carry out assignment to fulfill the requirements of life. This may
sound familiar to the Christian faith because according to Luke 4:8 in the Holy Bible, Jesus tells

World History Comparison Essay
World History Comparison
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are three of the most well known and most influential religions in the
world today. There are many similarities among these religions. All three religions originated in the
Middle East tracing their history back to Abraham. Each of these religions believes that there is only
one god therefore they are all considered to be a monotheistic religion. Another important similarity is
the belief that their god created everything and that it is possible to have an individual and personal
relationship with him. ( Christianity and Islam and Judaism: Comparison Chart )

every aspect of their lives. The Jewish religion has over 14 million followers ( Christianity and Islam

is the creator of all people, the world, and the universe. Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God
and was sent here for our salvation. Christians believe that people are saved and forgiven of their sins
if they confess their sins and confess their belief in the resurrection of Jesus. This process allows
Christians to gain a personal relationship with God. Greater than 2.2 billion supporters of the Christian
religion exist today ( Christianity ). Islam is the most clear. They clearly state that God alone is the

Personal Branding
Personal Branding is already conflicting with Company Branding outside the work place. A middle
school teacher was suspended with pay for making remarks about her students on Face Book
(Norwalk, 2010). A woman was fired after criticizing her boss on face book ( Fired over Facebook,
2011). A young man was rejected for a position at Cisco because he tweeted that he had to weigh the
fat paycheck against the drive and work (Popkin, 2009). These examples go on and on. Entire sites

Clay Shirky writes in her book Cognitive Surplus of a day where HR departments will overlook small
statements against organizations because in the future most everyone will have at least made one
mistake (2010).
Addressing the issue of conflicts in personal branding in the future will rely heavily on the individual
company policies. Middle managers will need to formulate new business and functional level
strategies. For example they will have to establish functional level policy s to allow employees to
communicate personal brands in a business oriented fashion. Middle managers will also have to
implement company level restrictions for issues that may harm the company brand. Middle
management will also have to formulate functional level strategies with the HR department. These
strategies will focus on hiring employees with both character in their personal brands and talent in
their resumes. These strategies will be heavily influenced by both internal factors (the mission
statement and culture of the company) and external factors (the laws, politics, company opportunities,
threats, and environment).
Both middle managers and employees of the future will have high levels of resiliency in order to
compete in such an interconnected world. Employees will have to take on a work life that is never

Factors that May Lead to Work-life Conflict
In recent years, employees were faced with more challenges between work and family, due to a series
of changes of demographic characteristics and workforce construction (Beauregard Henry, 2009;
Martins, Eddleston, Veiga, 2002; Premeaux, Adkins, Mossholder, 2007). For example, Australia has
around 21,507,717 population, 90% are employed (either full time or part time), and about 45% of
people work more than 40 hours a week (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2011). Additionally, nearly
half of the families are a couple with children, and around 70% of the parent(s) are working
(Australian Bureau of Statistics 2011). Therefore, this essay will focus on managing the work life
conflict, since it has negative effects on job satisfaction and performances. There are two forms of
work life conflict, work to family conflict (WFC) and family to work conflict (FWC). It is defined as
an interrole confliction, which is the participation of one role leading to difficulties of another role,
such as work and family role (Greenhaus Beutell, 1985 as cited by Premeaux et al., 2007). The
following essay will describe the problem in more detail and then propose two types of
recommendations (problem oriented and emotion oriented) to cope with the conflict between work
and family. Finally, the pros and cons of the solutions will be addressed. To begin with, it is important
that we need to understand the different factors may lead to work life conflict. Firstly, individual
differences need to

The Model-Minority Stereotypes
My friend is a Chinese Indonesian, and the first word or image that came to her mind when the word
minority was introduced, is culture. Being a Chinese that lives in Indonesia, she has the privileges of
learning both cultures. Both Indonesian and Chinese cultures, unfortunately, are very conservative,
which is why she said she had hard times accepting the freedom in the White culture. She did not see
her race as a minority, because she said, Asian kids are the smartest, it is just our accent that makes us
look dumb. She also did not receive any racial discrimination before. She supported immigration, and
her first image regarding immigration is of her grandparents as an immigrant because they move from

Lee s reading on Behind the Model Minority Stereotypes: Voices of High and Low Achieving Asian
American Students, I learned that that people s identity has a lot to do with how they perceive
minority and immigration. There are many things that Lee described that I find very accurate to the
answers of my interviewees. Lee mentioned that Asian American students are viewed as a model
minority, and there is this model minority stereotype that causes many teachers to expect greater
things from their Asian students. However, I discovered something interesting, that two of my Asian
interviewees actually believed in the stereotype, and thought of themselves as academically superior.
This is very true for my Asian American friend who said that she felt extremely proud to have the
American English accent and White culture, and at the same time having the intelligence of the Asian
brain. This can be related to the reading when one of the Korean students responded, We are smarter. I
mean, I don t think it s a stereotype look at our report cards. We are better, and we have to show it
(417). However, this is different with my peer s interview on his Asian friend who hates Math and
denies the stereotypes. The Chinese Indonesian Asian whom I interviewed also felt intelligent
compared to other races, but she admitted that her accent prevents her from speaking her thoughts.
This is similar to Thai s case where he wanted to be a lawyer, but chose engineering because of her
accent. In addition, my Chinese Indonesian interview can support Ogbu s argument, that is also
present in Lee s reading, that voluntary minorities who usually migrate because of better education
and opportunities, tends to do better academically (414). However, this should not be applied to all
Asian voluntary minorities, as generalization should not be made. In addition, Lee also mentioned

Hermia In A Midsummer Night s Dream
William Shakespeare has written many plays, with more characters, storylines, sets and intersecting
plotlines then you can imagine. Have you ever thought of one character in his plays that holds the

Hermis young daughter of Egeus Hermia has an unusual starting right from the beginning, which

The Entrepreneurial leadership style tends to have higher achievement and is where the Participative

The Entrepreneurial leadership style tends to be more creative and enthusiastic than the Participative

Entrepreneurial leadership style responds immediately if a crisis presents.
A3. Leadership Style Discussions Understanding different Leadership Styles can help me to become
an effective leader by helping me to identify deficient areas in my personal leadership style. Being
able to identify personal leadership deficiency will give me the opportunity of being aware. Being
aware of deficiency in my leadership style will help me to gain new skills that will help me to improve
and perfect deficient areas in my leadership style. This newfound awareness will allow me the
opportunity to obtain knowledge, skills and abilities needed in order for me to become an effective
leader.
Another reason understanding different leadership styles can help me to become an effective leader is
that it will give me the opportunity to think outside the box. This skill will help me to be more creative
in my leadership style, and as a result, I will gain and implement new leadership skills to my personal

Death Of An Hour By Kate Chopin
Death is a natural part of life, and, therefore, a common theme in many literary works. Kate Chopin,
the author of The Story of an Hour, explores the theme of death by unfolding the story of a woman
whose husband dies in a tragic accident. While the wife initially weeps with grief, her emotions soon
transform into feelings of secret delight over her new found freedom. In his story The Monkey s Paw,
W. W. Jacobs addresses the theme of death in a much darker manner. A holy man has placed a curse
on a decaying monkey s paw. The White family, who gains possession of this paw, has been granted
three wishes, the first of which seemingly ends in the death of the son Herbert, devastating his mother
and father. While the characters in The Story of an Hour and The Monkey s Paw cope with the deaths
of their loved ones in very different ways, both Chopin and Jacobs explore the theme of death through
imagery and symbolism. In her work The Story of an Hour, Chopin uses both imagery and symbolism
to examine the effects of a spouse s death on the loved one left behind. When Louise Mallard is faced
with the untimely death of her husband Brently Mallard, she sobs uncontrollably with sudden, wild
abandonment, in her sister s arms (par. 3). These emotion filled sounds of weeping are evidence of the
widow s fierce grief. The imagery continues as Chopin compares Louise s response to a violent storm,
a storm of grief, (par. 3) to encourage the reader to visualize the heart

Spanish People and Spain
The country of Spain lies on the continent of Europe. It is located forty degrees north and four degrees
west. The capital of Spain, Madrid, is located in the central region known as the Centro Meseta. The

Under the 1978 constitution the church is no longer Spain s official or established faith, though
financial support is still provided by the state. As a result, the church s influence in Spanish society
has declined sharply, though officially more than ninety four percent of the population is reported as
being Roman Catholic. The church supported the democratic movement and so helped foster the new
attitude of tolerance and personal freedom found in present day Spain.
Many of Spain s non Catholic citizens are members of some Protestant Church. Small Eastern
Orthodox congregations are found along with Muslim and Jewish groups. Among non Christian Jews

Spain s culture revolves around many different things. Clothing styles are generally not that much
than the ones in the U. S. Most Spaniards dress in modern clothes. The beret is still widely worn,

Cuisine is another important aspect of Spanish culture. The Spanish, like other Mediterranean people,
are particularly fond of sidewalk cafes, where a cup of coffee, glass of wine, or a meal can be enjoyed
with friends. Seafood is particularly favored on most Spanish menus. Olive oil is used abundantly in
cooking, as are garlic, saffron, and peppers. Rice is popular, especially in el sur and

Gulliver s Travels By Johnathan Swift
Gulliver s Travels is a travel book written by Johnathan Swift. Gulliver s Travel was published in
1726. Johnathan Swift is a satirist. A satirist is a writer who uses humor, irony, or ridicule to expose
and criticize people s stupidity. Swift goes on a journey throughout the boo. During the journey,
Johnathan exploits human flaws in his travel book. Gulliver travels into four imaginary lands. Each of
the four books provide social and political commentary. Swift created this book to get a buzz. Swift
swaps the roles of animals and humans. Horses, or the Houyhnhnms, have the ability to reason, but
lack the ability to show emotion. These animals are organized and intelligent. They live freely and are
not confined. On the other hand, the Yahoos have the outer appearance of humans, but are ignorant.
The Yahoos have a confined living space and lack their ability to reason. Swift chose to twist the roles
of these figures to show the evident flaws of humans. One major theme in Gulliver s Travels is human
flaw. Humans are very ignorant, selfish, and jealous. Swift makes it very apparent that humans are
chaotic beings. In Gulliver s Travels, Swift takes away the one trait that humans abuse. Humans have
the ability to reason. Although humans have the ability to reason, this ability is not always used for
good. Swift wants the human society to recognize their ways and work to be better. Instead, of society
being competitive and petty, it is important for society to work together as.

Examining The Role Of Women In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
The Wife of Bath s Tale (Middle English: the Tale of the Wyf of Bathe) is among the most understood
of Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. It contribute insight into the role of females in the Late
Middle Ages and was probably of interest to Chaucer himself, for the character is one of his most
developed ones, with her Prologue twice as long as her Tale. He also goes so far as to describe two
sets of clothing for her in his General Prologue. She holds her own among the bickering pilgrims, and
evidence in the manuscripts suggests that although she was first assigned a different, plainer tale
perhaps the one told by the Shipman she received her present tale as her significance increased. When
the Knight is captured, he is condemned to death, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have been sons of noble fathers, she argues, who were shameful and villainous, though they
shared the same blood. She does not take offense at the insult, but calmly asks him whether real
gentillesse, or noble character, can be hereditary. Her family may be poor, but real poverty lies in
covetousness, and real riches lie in having little and wanting nothing. Finally, he replies that he would
rather trust her judgment, and he asks her to choose whatever she thinks best. She offers the knight a
choice: either he can have her be ugly but loyal and good, or he can have her young and fair but also
coquettish and unfaithful. The knight ponders in silence. The two have a long, happy marriage, and the
woman becomes completely obedient to her husband. Because the knight s answer gave the woman
what she most desired, the authority to choose for herself, she becomes both beautiful and good. The
Wife of Bath concludes with a plea that Jesus Christ send all women husbands who are young, meek,
and fresh in bed, and the grace to outlive their husbands. Perhaps John is simple sely or naive, rather
than jealous. He says he loves her more than his life, so maybe John is just blinded to her betrayal
because he loves his wife so much. That might be a better moral to the story. He still cares about the
earthly world (his wife)

Examples Of Righteousness In The Crucible
Over the course of history, the idea of righteousness has clouded people s thinking, leading to cruel
and unnecessary forms of punishment. Arthur Miller s The Crucible significantly illustrates human
cruelty in the name of righteousness. Inspired by the McCarthy hearings of the 1950s, Miller s play,
The Crucible, focuses on the inconsistencies of the Salem witch trials and the extreme behavior that
can result from dark desires and hidden agendas. Miller bases the play on the historical account of the
Salem witch trials, a series of hearings before local magistrates followed by trials to prosecute people
accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts, between February 1692 and May 1693. A modern
day example that can be recognizably compared to the Salem witch trials is racial profiling that
manifested in the 1700s. Racial profiling is the use of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or national
origin by law enforcement agents as a factor in deciding whom to investigate, arrest, or detain with no
evidence of a specific crime or criminal behavior. Throughout the play, there are numerous instances
of human cruelty in the name of righteousness that outline the basis of the Salem witch trials and
racial profiling in today s society. In both of the situations, The Crucible and racial profiling,
individuals use their authority to commit hanice interrogation techniques to get what they want from
innocent citizens. You will confess yourself or I will take you out and whip you to

Letters from the Samantha
An interesting short story is quot;Letters from The Samantha quot; by Mark Helpin. This story tells
the fascinating tale, in the form of never sent letters, of an ape brought aboard an iron hulled sailing
ship in 1909 by Samson Low, the ship s captain. Although the author makes a point to tell the reader,
through Samson Low, that the animal does not symbolize anything or mean anything, in fact, quot;He
stands for nothing quot; (280), several arguments can be made to contradict this. One could argue that
the ape symbolized the untamed and rarely used wild side of Samson Low through a comparison of
their personalities, appearances, and the way they are treated by others. Samson Low was a captain of
a ship owned by the Green Star Line. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is listless quot; (280). For the first time the captain has headaches on the same journey he has
taken aboard an ape. The heat my be partially to blame but the guilt he feels of not living his life as he
secretly wants to could also be a factor. The ape also imitates what Samson Low does. When Samson
offers his hand to the creature, quot;In imitation, he put out his arm, looking much less fearsome. quot;
(277). The captain and the ape act as if they are communicating on a different, more primitive level.
At times, the crew s behavior is primitive as well. Their reactions change throughout the story. At first
they fear the ape as a wild creature until the captain quot;tames him. quot; The crew has divide into
two factions those who wish to have the monkey shot, and those who would put him in his boat

acceptance and approval. After the creature comes down from the rigging and takes the captain s hand,
quot;the crew cheered and laughed quot; (277). Now that they no longer fear him, they enjoy his
novelty as a kind of pet. They write home and describe the ape with some pride; they are the ones who

They could have made thousands by selling the album on iTunes, physical copies, vinyls etc. And plus
they are already fronted by a popular rapper so they wouldn t have a problem with being found. But
the answer is simple, perhaps too simple but refreshing. And that s because with Surf, they weren t
looking for money. As you may remember, Chance announced the album back late last fall and said
that it would be released before the end of 2014. Some may have been irritated at Chance for not
keeping his word, but those people are so used to rappers that are signed to labels issuing a deadline to

took those 6 months to make the music that him and his friends were creating perfect. And not perfect
for a record label, perfect for themselves. Which is what every artist should be doing. The popular

To What Extent Did Cornelius Vanderbilt Change America

Cornelius Vanderbilt became a millionaire and a largely known titan of industry. With his unique

Also, the stopping of shipment wouldn t allow Standard Oil or Carnegie Steel to become the popular

Catheter Malpositioning Case Study
Catheter malpositioning (I)
Our findings indicate that the use of the right internal jugular approach has the lowest incidence of
extrathoracic catheter tip positioning compared with the use of the external jugular or subclavian
routes. The present study has high statistical power and includes more right IJV cannulations
compared with previous smaller similar studies (Padberg 1981; Eisenhauer 1982; Sitzmann 1985;
Mansfield 1994; Yilmazlar 1997; Gladwin 1999; Molgaard 2004). These factors could possibly
explain our lower incidence of catheter malpositioning. The less straight intravascular route of
subclavian vein, EJV or left IJV catheters may partly explain their higher incidence of malpositioning
of the catheter tip. Further, although statistically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reports of vascular perforations during use of soft polyurethane catheters are rare, although Duntley et
al. described eight patients with pleural effusions, detected some days after insertion of subclavian or,
in one case, internal jugular venous catheter (Duntley 1992). In one of these patients, the catheter tip
seemed radiographically to be in an extravascular position at the time of clinical diagnosis. The pleural
space in each patient was nevertheless filled with the solution intended for parental nutrition. In only
one case, there was a return of blood through the catheter, possible indicating that most catheters were
placed into the pleura immediately at central venous cannulation, possibly following guide wire
induced vascular injury. Vascular perforation may often be attributed to immediate cannulation
associated injury (Kalen 1991; Robinson 1995), and most morbidity from vascular CVC perforation is
due to infusion of fluid into pleura or pericardium (Duntley 1992; Collier 1995; Walshe 2007),
although avoidable by careful aspiration of blood, or (if no blood can be obtained) chest X ray with iv
contrast injection, before clinical use. Since any central venous catheter appropriately, according to
tradition, positioned within the SCV could be associated with vascular perforation knowledge

nearby Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson, outstanding amongst other boxers to enter a ring. In spite
of the fact that his pugilistic style was unconventional and an attack against boxing idealists at the

When You Know I Hate Detest And Can T Bear A Lie In Heart...
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary horror means a very strong feeling of fear, dread, and
shock . In the short novel Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad, we find out how immoral ethics and
darkness come together creating horror in the perspective that no one in the story was a good person .
Meaning that no one was morally and ethically a virtuous individual based off of the ideas and
descriptions of a morally good person in the Bible. At the beginning of Heart of Darkness, Marlow
states, You know I hate, detest, and can t bear a lie, not because I am straighter than the rest of us, but
simply because it appalls me... (Conrad, 1990 Part 1 p.61). Although Marlow seems passionate about
his opinion on liars, in the last chapter of the book Marlow tracks down Kurtz s fiancé and sees a

behind them without a seatbelt, or a car seat. In my opinion we should have seatbelts on the school
buss. If there s not as many accidents reported for school busses then seatbelts shouldn t be a problem

A school bus skids on black ice, leaves the road and rolls into the ditch on its side. All 55 students on
board are belted. The gas tank ruptures and there is danger of fire and explosion. The frantic bus driver
begins to help students out of their seat belts. She opens the emergency exit and encourages the
children she has helped to exit the bus. Other drivers stop and try to help the children to safety. Fire
erupts. The driver and half of the children are trapped inside the bus.
This last scenario is bleak but it could happen. One driver cannot be held responsible for getting so
many students out of seat belts should a tragic accident occur. Are students safer in a school bus if
they are belted in? It all depends on the circumstances. Let s look at some other pros and cons of seat

Using seat belts improves behavior on school buses.
Installation of seat belts in school buses would cost less than $2.00 per child a small price to pay to

The Importance Of Misogyny In American Culture
I think internalized misogyny in American culture is detrimental to all genders, but especially women.
The objectification of women in media, culture, and daily life has proven harmful to the opportunities
and livelihoods of women. Once women are no longer viewed, as whole and valid human beings, the
subsequent rampant abuse and mistreatment imposed on them is rationalized and accepted by society.
I consider myself pro women, aligning myself with pro choice and anti abuse movements, due to my
partialities on the subject.
The most obvious source of towards my bias is the fact I m a woman, so the consequences of sexism
affect me directly. I suppose the intrinsic value of self preservation causes me to advocate against it,
since I would rather avoid experiencing the repercussions associated with misogyny than face them
firsthand. Combating society s oppressive attitudes increases my relative quality of life, so one could
consider my support for women s rights as a selfish endeavor. Branched off my own personal attempt
at self sustainability, is my willingness to empathize with other women. I hold the tendency to deeply
value women s rights because I recognize the struggles inflicted by the patriarchal culture and society
common to all women. I appreciate the quality of empathy because it s important in all human
relationships. I despise systematic sexism, because of its direct influence on me, and simultaneously
realize that I am a small entity among a small subsection of the

Marcus Mill s Article On Connotations And Connotation
1. Stuart Mill s article on Denotation vs Connotation emphasizes the meaning of words which are a
way for us to communicate with one another. He had his own theory on this article. His view on the
meaning of words was that there was a distinction between the connotation and the denotation of a
term. There are two kinds of descriptive values according to Mill. Denotation is the literal meaning of
a term whereas connotation is the idea or feeling that the word implies; the conceptual representation
of it. For example he states, The word white denotes all white things, as snow paper, the foam of the

white is not predicated of the attribute, but of the objects, snow, etc.; but when we predicate it of them,
we convey the meaning that the attribute whiteness belongs to them 167). What Mill is implying is
that the term white it characterizes the thing denoted by the expression. When we say the word white
we think of these other things (snow, paper, wedding dress, white flowers) because they are defined as
the color white. For instance, take the word home. The connotation of the term home would be a place

On Being Anointed and the Great Awakening Essay
Why do we need another Great awakening? When I think of an Awakening, even after our class, my
mind immediately goes to images of eighteenth century revivalists like Jonathan Edwards, George
Whitfield, Jereena Lee and a large constellation of other preaching giants of yesteryear. These men
and women created a legacy of spiritual fervor which has earned them a place in the annals of
American religious history. Their effectiveness as preachers of the word and proclaimers of truth
permeated a nation s consciousness and snatched the nation from spiritual decline.
Several questions arise as I think of the Awakenings of years past. My first question is whether our
nation is as spiritually receptive of an Awakening as it was two hundred years ... Show more content

Perhaps that is what we need a contemporary awakening to do. In the face of drone strikes, unending
poverty, mass incarceration, and myriad social issues with spiritual ramifications, an Awakening is
what is needed to turn this nation, its culture and its people around. I think there needs to be a turning
to a moral center; be it God (thinking out of my Christian context), or to a common place of civility
and mutual understanding. The church has a unique role to play in bringing renewal and restoration to
the brokenness of the world. I think that the mission the broken, crucified, despised Jesus was and is
healing brokenness. Jesus Christ was anointed to do the work of restoring a sick and sad nation. I,
therefore, hold as my point of departure that in Jesus Christ we are anointed to preach in a way that
will awaken the nation to wholeness and to the reality of God s reign on Earth. In light of my theme,
this paper hopes to accomplish three goals. My first goal is to reflect on the calling forth of bold,
brave, and anointed preachers in James A. Forbes book The Holy Spirit and Preaching. Second, I will
explore the preaching ministry of Howard Washington Thurman who, I think, exemplifies what it
means to operate in the anointing of Christ. Finally, I will take these considerations about the Holy
Spirit and Howard Thurman, and reflect on my own preaching ministry, which nears eleven

Essay On Asperger Syndrome
Hans Asperger and Stereotypes of Autism
Hans Asperger, was an Austrian pediatrician that observe autistic like behaviors and social and
communication challenges of children that hade normal intelligence as well as normal language
development, in the 1940 s. Asperger syndrome is a type of Pervasive Developmental Disorder
(PDD). PDD involve delays in the development of skills, mostly around social, communication, and
imagination and abstract thinking skills. Many experts argue that Asperger syndrome is a milder form
of autism, as called today High functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (HFASD).
Asperger s work consisted on a historic review of specific Autism case studies that even though were a
great basis for the upcoming research in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This special ability was defined by Asperger as savantism. Even if savantism exists within an
individual case of autism, the majority does not possess savantism (Draaisma, 2009). The stereotype
of savantism is far from reality, and led to unrealistic expectations from autistic individuals that are
not gifted. Adding to that stereotype, is the concept that a person with the disorder also possess a
robotic features, and lack of feelings, which is not a true representation of the majority of such
individuals (Draaisma, 2009).
Lack of social skills have led to a different stereotype on autism. It represent authenticity and lack of
phoniness. According to this view, this authenticity is a value of autistic individuals who are able to
teach others valuable lessons. It leads to the view that autism is not a disorder.According to this view,
even typical individuals may be considered autistic, and in some extent, perhaps even the entire
population can be considered to be autistic. This stereotype contributes to the distortion of the autism
concept. (Draaisma,

The Principles Of Law And Ethics In Health
Law and Ethics in Health Introduction Ethics and as sometimes called morals is the concept of what is
right or wrong or what one is supposed to do or not do. Health practitioners are guided by ethical
principles to help them make informed decisions. There are various Ethical theories that can be
applied in different situations. Consequentialism theory helps to know the consequence of any action
taken by a health practitioner. Deontology deals with the duties and practices of the doctors or nurses.
Health workers that tend to adhere so much on this theory may have conflicts with other individuals at
work. Virtue theory deals with the morals of an individual. Principlism theory requires that the health
practitioners adhere to the communal, religious and person believes of the patient. ... Show more

All healthcare service providers are required to balance all these principles. Ethical decisions are not
so simple to make especially where the decision will have an effect on the practitioner. Legal
framework allows team decision making to make proper decisions. Law is a set of rules that are
derived from ethical or religious backgrounds and they are intended to control the inter relations in a
society with the aim of maintaining order. Like other institutions individuals in the healthcare sector
are protected by law to ensure none of them is harmed. The patients have their rights as stipulated by
the law and it is the responsibility if the healthcare providers to uphold their rights. On the other hand,
health practitioners are also protected by the law which guides them on the appropriate decision to

The Black Of Black Is Ugly
Black is Ugly
Earlier in this century, Italians, Jews, and Rumanians were widely considered to be of different even
inferior racial stock compared to the almost transparently white English, Germans, and Swedes. Just a
few decades later, those groups were fully accepted into the community of whites while Asians,
Latinos, and most of all, African Americans have been reduced because of their darker skin. All over
the world, light/fair skinned people have seemingly been placed on a pedestal while darker skinned
people have been ridiculed, or worse, been considered ugly. Dark skinned inhabitants outnumber the
global population by 3/4ths yet among them there still exists a prevalent notion of white or light
skinned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More specifically, African Americans with their traditionally African features have always had an
uneasy coexistence with the European (white) idea of beauty. According to Angela M. Neal and Midge
L. Wilson, Compared to Black males, Black females have been more profoundly affected by the
prejudicial fallout surrounding issues of skin color, facial features, and hair. Such impact can be
attributed in large part to the importance of physical attractiveness for all women .
Colorism
Colorism is the term most commonly used for the phenomenon of non white people discriminating for
and against those who are lighter within their own ethnic groups. Colorism is more specified and
sophisticated strain of racism, which focuses just on superficial aspects of human bodies primarily
skin color. Notion of light skin in the United States of America is an example of a location where
colorism thrives: supremacy is almost automatically associated with lighter complexion, so external
characteristic is an indication of superiority. Colorism, in its simplest definition, is a discrimination
based on the skin tone. Colorism is a more concrete form of racism, which is also defined as
discriminatory treatment of individuals falling within the same racial group on the basis of skin color
(Herring Keith in Yancey, 2004).

Anatomy And Physiology Of The Thyroid Gland
Hypothyroidism is one of the top diseases that goes unnoticed. Not many people know the affects the
thyroid gland can have on the body, and how the thyroid gland has a part in regulating the many
different systems. This paper will explain the anatomy and physiology of the thyroid gland, the
description, sign and symptoms, causes and risk factors, the diagnosis of the disease, and the possible
treatment plans for the disease. The thyroid gland, which is the largest endocrine gland in adults, is a
butterfly shaped gland with two lobes that lie adjacent to the trachea just below the larynx. The
thyroid function runs on hormone regulation, keeping the positive and negative feedback loop running
correctly. The hypothalamus, responsible for most of the hormones in the body, secretes the
thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), which induces the anterior pituitary to secrete prolactin (PRL)
and the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) that stimulates the thyroid to release thyroid hormone
(TH). TSH stimulates the growth of the thyroid gland, and TH exerts metabolic effects. If the TH
secretion drops in a healthy thyroid, TSH secretion rises and will stimulate the thyroid to push out
more hormones. If the TSH is too high, the hormone somatostatin will inhibit the secretion of TSH
and the growth hormone (GH). Hypothyroidism is the disease that causes the thyroid to be underactive
and cannot make enough TH for the body to function normally. The body s metabolic effects rely on

more than dress can adorn her, and that s her excellence (246). Clarissa seems to have innate
gracefulness and her virtues surpass all the physical objects including the clothes, to become a
valuable capital can no one could take it away from her. At the end of the story, when Clarissa dying

A pattern of white lily appears on Clarissa confine, with details that the head of a white Lily snap short
off, and just falling from the stalk (647). The broken part of the white lily symbolizes death and the
purity that has been taken away, which briefly conclude the tragedy that happened to Clarissa. In
addition, A crowned Serpent, with its tail in its mouth, forming a ring, the emblem of Eternity (646) is
also etched on the coffin. Since a circle has no beginning or an end, this shape represents a
philosophical idea of eternity. The way the snake bites its own tails reveals a concept of self
consumption (82), as Maud Ellmann explains in The Hunger Artists (1993), the snake could stand for
circulation, self starvation, or imprisonment, all of which contribute to Clarissa s tragedy (82). The
root cause of Clarissa s tragic life is her inability in obtaining autonomy of her life. The society
Clarissa lives in objectifies women to trade for material goods and force them to develop to fulfill
their greed. In The Rape of Clarissa (1982), Terry Eagleton claims that in this society death is indeed

Elasticity Of Demand And Supply
Elasticity of Demand and Supply
INTRODUCTION:
Elasticity : In Economics, how responsive an economic variable is to a change in another is the
measurement of elasticity. It is an unit free measure. By using Elasticities, we can measure the two
markets of price and quantity. The difference among markets can be quantified by the economist using
elasticities without the measurement of the units. It is the responsiveness of one variable (demand or
supply) to a change in another (e.g. cost). This idea is basic to appreciating how advertises function.
The most widely recognized versatilities utilized incorporate value flexibility of interest, value
flexibility of supply, cross value flexibility of interest and pay flexibility of interest.
The Equation of Elasticity is = % of change in quantity / % of change in price.
Elasticity of Demand :
Elasticity of Demand also referred to as Price Elasticity of Demand in Economic measures is based on
the effect of how the quantity demanded is changed when there is change in the price. With respect to
price it is the quantity demanded responsiveness degree. For example lets consider a case in the below
figure, where there is elastic demand when the curve is almost flat. You can see that, the quantity
decreases a lot if there is a change in price from $.75 to $1. There can be many reasons for this On the
off chance that demand is extremely inelastic, then vast changes in cost won t do particularly to the
amount requested. For example,

The main character, Frank Cauldhame is obsessed with killing. He has been obsessed with killing since he was a young child, when he murdered three innocent children. His obsession has evolved into a daily ritual due to multiple reasons. First, Frank s dad has secretly put additional male hormones in Frank s food since he was a young child. Education is something my family has valued for many years and this is because of my grandfather Bishop Leach Jr. Bishop Leach was born on September 17, 1924. When he was a young child he joined Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church in Pittsboro, NC. This church has been very important to my family because we have been attending this church for generations. Bishop Leach attended and graduated from Horton High School, which later became Horton Middle School. He graduated at the shocking age of 15. Bishop served in the United States Army once he finished high school. After serving in the Army, he then attended North Carolina College, now North Carolina Central University (NCCU) where he graduated within three years and obtained his B.S degree in social studies in 1952. While in college, he married Myrtle Alston. The couple were married for forty nine years and had two sons Bishop Bernard Leach and James Benjamin Leach. Bishop s career in the Chatham County School System began as a teacher at Horton High School. He taught there for many years and he touched a lot of people s lives to the point where they tell me countless stories about him. After his tenure at Horton he got promoted to assistant principal at Northwood High School after they integrated. He eventually retired from the Chatham County School System after 33 years of dedicated service. Bishop also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first U.S. interaction dates to 1831, when the United States established diplomatic relations with the Ottoman Empire (the U.S. Department of State) in 1831 through the formal act of diplomatic recognition between the countries. The friendship was strengthened in the early 1900s as the United States was elevated to Embassy status in 1906. As a safety measure toward the Islamic State, the growing presence of Muslim fundamentalism (ABC Clio), the U.S. militarily has supported the Kurdish armed force in Syria, a minority ethnic group in the Middle East, to counter against the IS. At the same time, little has been accomplished for domestic security or the destruction of terror groups. The United States needs a clear, focused strategy to suppress terrorist groups, while at the same time eliminating the causes for terrorism. I propose a gradual drawdown and closing of US bases and garrisons around the world. I also propose a serious global coalition to tackle ISIS, with a clear plan and exit strategy. At the same time, negotiating an agreement cannot be overlooked. The GWoT (Global War on Terror) is recognized as officially starting after the September 11 attacks. It is called global because it involves military actions, politics, and law against terror groups anywhere in the world. Current hostilities are being fought by NATO and ISAF countries with countless independent agreements. The main adversaries of this global coalition are al Qaeda, al Nursa, ISIS/ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant), and Boko Haram. Despite the efforts of this anti terror alliance, terror groups operate unhindered and terror attacks seem to be increasing. There are several key problems with the U.S. WoT strategy. The main one is the difficulty of detecting and fighting guerilla threats. Another key problem is the rules of engagement and collateral damage. The third and most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In general, Iconography is a symbolic image which implies the meaning of a particular subject such as religious and legendary purpose ( Iconography , n.d.). For iconography of art, the presence of things within the one single piece of art could hugely convey a meaningful comprehension of a particular religion more profoundly. And that is considered as one of the significant reasons why artists put a lot of effort to create an artwork with implication immersed in it. Because the more implications will allow people to find more information in depth and understand that there are numerous elements which we can refer to which finally those elements become an icon of a particular religion. People never saw this fire coming which might have made it even worse. The only reason it spread so far was because everything was made out of wood, the ground was parched and the wind was blowing that night; the reason it stopped was because it had started raining. Although the fire destroyed most of the city, it was a positive turning point in history. These materials that are way more expensive than wood were held together by a strong, sticky substance called mortar. The construction technique using that substance is called masonry and the skilled groups of construction workers are called masons. Factors that May Lead to Work-life Conflict In recent years, employees were faced with more challenges between work and family, due to a series of changes of demographic characteristics and workforce construction (Beauregard Henry, 2009; Martins, Eddleston, Veiga, 2002; Premeaux, Adkins, Mossholder, 2007). For example, Australia has around 21,507,717 population, 90% are employed (either full time or part time), and about 45% of people work more than 40 hours a week (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2011). Additionally, nearly half of the families are a couple with children, and around 70% of the parent(s) are working (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2011). Therefore, this essay will focus on managing the work life conflict, since it has negative effects on job satisfaction and performances. There are two forms of work life conflict, work to family conflict (WFC) and family to work conflict (FWC). It is defined as an interrole confliction, which is the participation of one role leading to difficulties of another role, such as work and family role (Greenhaus Beutell, 1985 as cited by Premeaux et al., 2007). The following essay will describe the problem in more detail and then propose two types of recommendations (problem oriented and emotion oriented) to cope with the conflict between work and family. Lee mentioned that Asian American students are viewed as a model minority, and there is this model minority stereotype that causes many teachers to expect greater things from their Asian students. However, I discovered something interesting, that two of my Asian interviewees actually believed in the stereotype, and thought of themselves as academically superior. This is very true for my Asian American friend who said that she felt extremely proud to have the American English accent and White culture, and at the same time having the intelligence of the Asian brain. • 22. Death Of An Hour By Kate Chopin Death is a natural part of life, and, therefore, a common theme in many literary works. Kate Chopin, the author of The Story of an Hour, explores the theme of death by unfolding the story of a woman whose husband dies in a tragic accident. While the wife initially weeps with grief, her emotions soon transform into feelings of secret delight over her new found freedom. In his story The Monkey s Paw, W. W. Jacobs addresses the theme of death in a much darker manner. A holy man has placed a curse on a decaying monkey s paw. The White family, who gains possession of this paw, has been granted three wishes, the first of which seemingly ends in the death of the son Herbert, devastating his mother and father. While the characters in The Story of an Hour and The Monkey s Paw cope with the deaths of their loved ones in very different ways, both Chopin and Jacobs explore the theme of death through imagery and symbolism. In her work The Story of an Hour, Chopin uses both imagery and symbolism to examine the effects of a spouse s death on the loved one left behind. When Louise Mallard is faced with the untimely death of her husband Brently Mallard, she sobs uncontrollably with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister s arms (par. 3). These emotion filled sounds of weeping are evidence of the widow s fierce grief. The imagery continues as Chopin compares Louise s response to a violent storm, a storm of grief, (par. 3) to encourage the reader to visualize the heart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Gulliver s Travels By Johnathan Swift Gulliver s Travels is a travel book written by Johnathan Swift. Gulliver s Travel was published in 1726. Johnathan Swift is a satirist. A satirist is a writer who uses humor, irony, or ridicule to expose and criticize people s stupidity. Swift goes on a journey throughout the boo. During the journey, Johnathan exploits human flaws in his travel book. Gulliver travels into four imaginary lands. Each of the four books provide social and political commentary. Swift created this book to get a buzz. Swift swaps the roles of animals and humans. Horses, or the Houyhnhnms, have the ability to reason, but lack the ability to show emotion. These animals are organized and intelligent. They live freely and are not confined. On the other hand, the Yahoos have the outer appearance of humans, but are ignorant. The Yahoos have a confined living space and lack their ability to reason. Swift chose to twist the roles of these figures to show the evident flaws of humans. One major theme in Gulliver s Travels is human flaw. Humans are very ignorant, selfish, and jealous. Swift makes it very apparent that humans are chaotic beings. In Gulliver s Travels, Swift takes away the one trait that humans abuse. Humans have the ability to reason. Although humans have the ability to reason, this ability is not always used for good. Swift wants the human society to recognize their ways and work to be better. Instead, of society being competitive and petty, it is important for society to work together as. ... • 27. Examining The Role Of Women In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales The Wife of Bath s Tale (Middle English: the Tale of the Wyf of Bathe) is among the most understood of Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. It contribute insight into the role of females in the Late Middle Ages and was probably of interest to Chaucer himself, for the character is one of his most developed ones, with her Prologue twice as long as her Tale. He also goes so far as to describe two sets of clothing for her in his General Prologue. She holds her own among the bickering pilgrims, and evidence in the manuscripts suggests that although she was first assigned a different, plainer tale perhaps the one told by the Shipman she received her present tale as her significance increased. There have been sons of noble fathers, she argues, who were shameful and villainous, though they shared the same blood. She does not take offense at the insult, but calmly asks him whether real gentillesse, or noble character, can be hereditary. Her family may be poor, but real poverty lies in covetousness, and real riches lie in having little and wanting nothing. Finally, he replies that he would rather trust her judgment, and he asks her to choose whatever she thinks best. She offers the knight a choice: either he can have her be ugly but loyal and good, or he can have her young and fair but also coquettish and unfaithful. The knight ponders in silence. The two have a long, happy marriage, and the woman becomes completely obedient to her husband. Because the knight s answer gave the woman what she most desired, the authority to choose for herself, she becomes both beautiful and good. The Wife of Bath concludes with a plea that Jesus Christ send all women husbands who are young, meek, and fresh in bed, and the grace to outlive their husbands. Perhaps John is simple sely or naive, rather than jealous. He says he loves her more than his life, so maybe John is just blinded to her betrayal because he loves his wife so much. • 28. Examples Of Righteousness In The Crucible Over the course of history, the idea of righteousness has clouded people s thinking, leading to cruel and unnecessary forms of punishment. Arthur Miller s The Crucible significantly illustrates human cruelty in the name of righteousness. Inspired by the McCarthy hearings of the 1950s, Miller s play, The Crucible, focuses on the inconsistencies of the Salem witch trials and the extreme behavior that can result from dark desires and hidden agendas. Miller bases the play on the historical account of the Salem witch trials, a series of hearings before local magistrates followed by trials to prosecute people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts, between February 1692 and May 1693. A modern day example that can be recognizably compared to the Salem witch trials is racial profiling that manifested in the 1700s. Racial profiling is the use of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or national origin by law enforcement agents as a factor in deciding whom to investigate, arrest, or detain with no evidence of a specific crime or criminal behavior. Throughout the play, there are numerous instances of human cruelty in the name of righteousness that outline the basis of the Salem witch trials and racial profiling in today s society. In both of the situations, The Crucible and racial profiling, individuals use their authority to commit hanice interrogation techniques to get what they want from innocent citizens. This story tells the fascinating tale, in the form of never sent letters, of an ape brought aboard an iron hulled sailing ship in 1909 by Samson Low, the ship s captain. Although the author makes a point to tell the reader, through Samson Low, that the animal does not symbolize anything or mean anything, in fact, quot;He stands for nothing quot; (280), several arguments can be made to contradict this. In one of these patients, the catheter tip seemed radiographically to be in an extravascular position at the time of clinical diagnosis. The pleural space in each patient was nevertheless filled with the solution intended for parental nutrition. In only one case, there was a return of blood through the catheter, possible indicating that most catheters were placed into the pleura immediately at central venous cannulation, possibly following guide wire induced vascular injury. Vascular perforation may often be attributed to immediate cannulation associated injury (Kalen 1991; Robinson 1995), and most morbidity from vascular CVC perforation is due to infusion of fluid into pleura or pericardium (Duntley 1992; Collier 1995; Walshe 2007), although avoidable by careful aspiration of blood, or (if no blood can be obtained) chest X ray with iv contrast injection, before clinical use. • 39. Marcus Mill s Article On Connotations And Connotation 1. Stuart Mill s article on Denotation vs Connotation emphasizes the meaning of words which are a way for us to communicate with one another. He had his own theory on this article. His view on the meaning of words was that there was a distinction between the connotation and the denotation of a term. There are two kinds of descriptive values according to Mill. Denotation is the literal meaning of a term whereas connotation is the idea or feeling that the word implies; the conceptual representation of it. For example he states, The word white denotes all white things, as snow paper, the foam of the sea, etc., and implies, or in the language of the schoolmen, connotes, the attribute whiteness. The word white is not predicated of the attribute, but of the objects, snow, etc.; but when we predicate it of them, we convey the meaning that the attribute whiteness belongs to them 167). What Mill is implying is that the term white it characterizes the thing denoted by the expression. When we say the word white we think of these other things (snow, paper, wedding dress, white flowers) because they are defined as the color white. For instance, take the word home. The connotation of the term home would be a place of warmth, comfort, affection etc. She feels like home . This paper will explain the anatomy and physiology of the thyroid gland, the description, sign and symptoms, causes and risk factors, the diagnosis of the disease, and the possible treatment plans for the disease. The thyroid gland, which is the largest endocrine gland in adults, is a butterfly shaped gland with two lobes that lie adjacent to the trachea just below the larynx. The thyroid function runs on hormone regulation, keeping the positive and negative feedback loop running correctly. The hypothalamus, responsible for most of the hormones in the body, secretes the thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), which induces the anterior pituitary to secrete prolactin (PRL) and the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) that stimulates the thyroid to release thyroid hormone (TH). TSH stimulates the growth of the thyroid gland, and TH exerts metabolic effects. If the TH secretion drops in a healthy thyroid, TSH secretion rises and will stimulate the thyroid to push out more hormones. If the TSH is too high, the hormone somatostatin will inhibit the secretion of TSH and the growth hormone (GH). Hypothyroidism is the disease that causes the thyroid to be underactive and cannot make enough TH for the body to function normally. The body s metabolic effects rely on the ... • 46. Elasticity Of Demand And Supply Elasticity of Demand and Supply INTRODUCTION: Elasticity : In Economics, how responsive an economic variable is to a change in another is the measurement of elasticity. It is an unit free measure. By using Elasticities, we can measure the two markets of price and quantity. The difference among markets can be quantified by the economist using elasticities without the measurement of the units. It is the responsiveness of one variable (demand or supply) to a change in another (e.g. cost). This idea is basic to appreciating how advertises function. The most widely recognized versatilities utilized incorporate value flexibility of interest, value flexibility of supply, cross value flexibility of interest and pay flexibility of interest. The Equation of Elasticity is = % of change in quantity / % of change in price. Elasticity of Demand : Elasticity of Demand also referred to as Price Elasticity of Demand in Economic measures is based on the effect of how the quantity demanded is changed when there is change in the price. With respect to price it is the quantity demanded responsiveness degree. For example lets consider a case in the below figure, where there is elastic demand when the curve is almost flat. You can see that, the quantity decreases a lot if there is a change in price from $.75 to $1. There can be many reasons for this On the off chance that demand is extremely inelastic, then vast changes in cost won t do particularly to the amount requested. For example, ...
