Nowadays, EPL becomes one of the most popular and lucrative sports organization which the
weekly audience reaching 103 million, turnover and gross profit amount to ВЈ1.20 billion and
ВЈ106 million (ref. 2 P63).
Application Consumer Behavior
The want is the most important reason of consumption on EPL matches, it is also the sources of
need recognition of the customers. The wants could be defined as people s desire to seek
entertainment in leisure and family time, sports lovers wants to support their own team, and in
some cases, consumers zealotry for big games.
Potential customers would do information search before making decision. At this time, public
sources like newspaper (e.g. match reports) and television (e.g. highlights and goals of a week) give
them information of the match feature. Personal sources like comments, discussions or even
debates between friends are providing information as well, meanwhile, friend becomes the
influencer, who would persuade and push the consumption.
It is a norm that people would support the football league of their own country. Chart (Ofcom amp;
Human Capital, 2005) also illustrates that half of the respondents support EPL as they concern their
own teams, the reason is mostly accord with their locations or

Plain English Movement
Problem Solved? Or A Scratch on the Surface?
Brief analysis on Plain English Movement
Writing, generally speaking, ought to be an instrument for conveying ideas from one mind to an
other efficiently. Conventional legal composition, on the contrary, appears to be overwhelmingly
complicated to the public.
Occurring and then prevailing since the 1970s, the well known Plain English Movement (we mainly
cope with the movement in the USA) seems to have offered a commonly welcomed solution to this
problem. However, disputes still remain in the legal academia in regard to the actual efficiency of
the Movement.
This essay attempts to analyze the causes of the Movement as well as its implications from both
positive and negative perspectives, in hope ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Plain English Movement, while achieving in making legal documents shorter and spreading a
new draft ing system throughout the world, is not effective as expected. The linguistic shortcoming
makes it impossible for Plain English to be compatible with the logic of law. This essay is not
arguing that Plain English movement is bad, but merely analyses its defects at present. The idea
behind the Plain English Movement is highly endorsed owing to its effort to enhance public
understanding of legal documents.

Band Camp Narrative
The piercing ring of alarm went off for the last time, waking everyone up an hour later than
usual. Light quickly streamed into the jet black cabin when our chaperone turned on the small
cabin s only lamp, Wake up girls! It s the last day of band camp! All the freshmen girls groaned
and slowly crawled out of bed. Quietly, everyone started getting their stuff together, so they
could easily leave after the performance. No one had the energy to talk in the morning because we
were all worn out from the work we did the day before. Everyday we did 7 hours of marching, and
3 hours of music practice. Yesterday was the hardest we ever worked because we had to be ready
for the performance.
Finally, it was 8 o clock and we all started to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

this week, especially by three of them. This motivated me not to move even more. Luckily, pre
game started and the bees flew away. We began to march and I started shaking from a mix of
excitement and nervousness. This is what we were working for non stop for the past week. It
was finally time for all our hard work to pay off. That excitement ended fairly quickly when we
started playing the star spangled banner, and my arms felt like giving up, but I knew I couldn t
stop. As pre game was coming to an end all I could think about was how thirsty I was, and that my
arms were dead. I tried to focus on my marching to ignore the heat and pain the best I could. After
what felt like 10 minutes, the band was able to take a quick break as our band director explained
the show to the parents. This was the first drink break this practice, so I was thankful to finally

Good Man What s a good man? Can it be descriptive?. And can that person be identified as a good
man who is hard to find?. The story of A Good Man is Hard to Find talks about a grandmother
whose name is not mentioned directly in the story. Mystery has it, that she has been explaining
her story as if she was the good man or who knows what she could be talking about referring
someone or telling someone that good men are hard to find. The author Flannery O connor wrote
this story in 1953, where there must different events occurring causing the relations of racism and
different inventions throughout the history that had been shaping America. Therefore, a lot of
important events that must it been happening when she was writing this story could be similar to
women behaving or acting like men who take responsibilities to different levels of structure to
indeed understand the terms of a Good Man . This is just the beginning of where the writer directs
the story towards a horror story or even an uplifting depiction of someone s own will.
Flannery O Connor is one of the names that is closely related to the southern style of fiction. The

Review Of Gramsci s Political Thought The Prison...
AJ FAAS 3 4 08 A REVIEW OF GRAMSCI S POLITICAL THOUGHT IN THE PRISON
NOTEBOOKS [DRAFT DO NOT CITE WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION OF THE
AUTHOR] Antonio Gramsci was an Italian communist scholar, journalist, and activist who served
as a deputy member of the Italian Parliament, representing the Italian Communist Party (PCI),
which he helped to establish in 1923. In the wake of the triumph of Mussolini and the Italian
fascists in 1926, Gramsci was sentenced to 20 years in prison in order to prevent his thought
from spreading (Crehan 2003:17). From 1926 to 1937, when he was released from prison only to
die one week later, Gramsci composed thirty two notebooks (over 2,350 printed pages) which has
come to be regarded as his greatest work and an unfinished classic of Marxist thought (Simon 1991;
Crehan 2002). The fact that he composed these great works while he was in prison and during a
time of political turmoil that provoked him has particularly confounding effects on the reader. First,
these notebooks were hand written in prison and he frequently revisits or elaborates on earlier notes
throughout the journals. They are therefore not organized under coherent headings to facilitate a
systematic interpretation of his thoughts. Some editors organize the notes under their own themes,
and Gramsci himself at times inserts instructions that one passage should be tied to another, but
some imposed order is always inevitable. Second, Gramsci, though in prison, was very much
informed, and

Disadvantages Of Flexible Saving Account
Flexible saving Accounts (FSAs) are a kind of cafeteria plan letting employees to choose cash

plan enables the company to expand benefit selections on a tax advantaged foundation to
employees with negligible extra out of pocket expenses. Flexible spending accounts provides
several advantages to Blue Post Company and the employees. Though, there are some difficulties to
be aware of. The most common one is the utilize it or lose it characteristic. Any amounts donated to

Quarter Car Essay
WHEEL SLIP DYNAMICSQuarter car model
The consideration of a quarter car model can clearly explained the problem of wheel slippage as
shown in the fig.5. This quarter car model consists of mass m which is connected by a wheel. The
mass m is steered by the inertia with a velocity v, as a result the wheel starts rotating. A frictionforce
fx is generated between the wheel and the road surface. An angular velocity П‰ is caused by
wheel rotation, which is generated by the torque. A negative angular acceleration is developed,
when the brake is pressed in opposition to the wheel rotation.
Fig.5 Quarter car forces and torques
The equation of quarter car forces are:
mv= F_x(1) Jw=rF_x T_b sign(П‰)(2)

The Importance Of Stereotypes In Society
Barbara Kruger, an American conceptual artist, once said All violence is the illustration of a
pathetic stereotype (All). Stereotypes are at the basis of every dispute, argument, or violence we as
people are quick to judge other people even if we have never got to know the person we re
criticizing. If stereotypes continue we will become a world with separated groups of people that
are at war with each other.Stereotypes can be defined as image or labelthat can be held on a group
of people based on their appearances, and they impact our society in many ways (Stereotype). For
example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says that That was scarring. I
felt like after a while, as I grew older and my consciousness evolved, I chose to not perm my hair
anymore (Staff). This evidence supports the idea that we may change our appearances like
Jamila Lyiscott, for people judge us based on things like our hair. Jamila Lyiscott felt like she
was placed in a certain group based on her appearance and this is what stereotypes are. Clearly,
stereotypes affect our world greatly just like it affected Jamila Lyiscott and how she presented
herself to society. The topic of stereotypes is also explored through literature. For example, in the
poem, Labels, this poem is saying that we don t need to judge if we have never met the person
we are labeling. Labels is really talking about how stereotypes aren t right. The poet writes that You
can t know me by just a look,

International Economic Growth And Prosperity
Education is the key to global economic growth and prosperity. For any educational institution to

institutions of higher learning have experience a significant paradigm shift of the role of
information technology. It has evolved from being solely a support function to becoming a leader
in innovation for these institutions. This has allowed many to perform a system wide alignment of

Dodge Charger Masculinity
The viral Dodge Charger Man s Last Stand (2010) commercial illustrates the loss of masculinity. It
aims to reassert a man s right to control and domination in society through material consumption
with blatant sexist messages. Additionally, it highlights cultural, economic and social structures as
the root cause of the loss of masculinity.
The commercial presents close ups of ethnically diverse men, positioned in the bedroom, the
kitchen and the living room. Each of the males is motionless while a narrator criticizes the day to
day activities that males undertake. For example, the narrator says, I will walk the dog at 6.30
AM (Dodge Charger, 2010, 0:01). The most basic responsibilities, cleaning up after oneself, are
offered as arbitrary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the closing scene, the man in the fitted suit utters with anger, I will carry your lip balm (Dodge
Charger, 2010, 0:34). Notably, in this scene, the viewer can sense the rage through the raised
eyebrow and the intensity of the eyes. This is a symbol that Goffman associates to male aggression
and power (Jhally, 2009). The men are presenting themselves as expected of them society. Hence,
the commercial is illustrating what Goffman calls commercial realism (Jhally, 2009). Since the
viewer tries to resist the advertisements, this commercial is quick and effective, and thus uses codes
of gender display because they are familiar to us all (Jhally, 2009). Evidently, the commercial aims
at depicting men as metrosexual or rather intruded by the everyday activities to reinforce the
features of masculinity: active, aware of the world and in charge of their surroundings. This point
echoes Sean Nixon s genealogy of the development (1996) of how the representational practice of
masculinity is derived from fashion (metrosexual imagery) and advertising (masculine features)
(Gill, forthcoming, para 8). Additionally, this is furthered by Gill s reflection on Foucault s ideas on
all identities are socially constructed and non essential (forthcoming, para 8). On that condition, the
men must engage with the dominant masculine identities that are portrayed by the

The Book Thief Friendship Essay
The Book Thief is a story written by Markus Zusak and set in nazi Germany, 1939 1943. Markus
Zusak mostly writes fiction. He has won 4 major prices with The Book Thief, like Kathleen
Mitchell Award (2006) and the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis (2009). The theme that is most
present in the novel is love and friendship. The theme is really well written and definitely makes up
most of the story s success.
The narrator of the story is Death. He tells about Liesel, a girl whose brother died on the train to
Molching. On the funeral of Liesels brother, she steals her first book, The Gravedigger s
Handbook. She also lost her mother once she arrived at her foster parents, Hans and Rosa

out.
Max lives in the basement. He and Liesel become better friends over time. Eventually Max writes
a book for Liesel called The Standover Man, which is made over the white painted pages of Mein
Kampf.
The theme friendship can be found through the whole story, like how Max and Liesel become good
friends and how Liesel becomes friends with Rudy, which contains signs that their relationship can
turn in more then just friends.
The theme love can be seen in a lot of different ways, like love for your family, being in love with
someone, and loving a certain object. All these ways of love are discussed in the book. For
example, Liesel first found Rudy filthy, but later in the book she kisses him. Also, Rosa swears
a lot to Liesel, but when Liesel puts herself in serious danger, she tells her to be careful, which
shows she really does love Liesel. Love for objects is also present. A big example of this are the
books that Liesel steals or receives. These book cheer her up when she feels down, and give her
comfort in times that she needs it. These books give her her own viewpoint on Germany and form

5 Paragraph Reconstruction Essay
Paragraph Reconstruction Ballerinas can tell a story like no other. They are known for being
graceful, having such beauty, and poise in the way they care themselves. When given a part or
role they commit to it, because they are great storytellers it is easy to draw or paint them with a
raw and emotional background. A ballerina is known for having pain inflicted lives. Everything a
dancer does is shown through through their body. A dancer s body is well formed, toned, and
defined, but more importantly it s in their eyes and in their performance. The painting that I am
analyzing show s exactly how dark a dancer s can get.
The background is what sets the mood in a painting. The subtle, yet impressionable brush strokes

From a woman s point of view, she looks as if she has reached her breaking point. Trying to stay
strong, her emotions overwhelm her while she dances and it becomes a little too much for her.
A cry for help is upon her. Her hair is also free and in a mess; normally when ballerinas perform
their hair is nice tight and in a bun. Her muscle so defined, and still pale as if she had seen a
ghost. You can tell a lot of work has been put into achieving the body she has. It stands out with the
white, flowy, soft dress.
Her clothing is white. It seems as if she is trying to still maintain her innocence; maybe the dress
is white because it symbolizes who she once were, or someone she longed to be. White coloring
is supposed to symbolize something pure; maybe with how the background is contrast the white
coloring can still show even though darkness is surrounding her, she can still maintain or be the
person the thought she lost. It is very easy for ballerinas to be painted as a tragedy figure because
they are great storytellers. They tend to capture every emotion and every aspect of a tragedy in one s
life. The appearance is everythings, and how they dance. From facial features to silhouette, even
down to their hair. Everything about their appearance makes them the perfect candidate to be drawn

Summary
The Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling is the thought provoking book

The book beautifully entails that the counselor must observe his client deeply to depict that when
he would be able to respond appropriately towards a specific approach. McMinn s ideas about
prayer really strike the heart that without God s assistance one cannot proceed towards emotional
stability.
The book presents an excellent guidance to Christian counselors about appropriate approach
towards displaying spirituality in their exposures with their client to ensure a finest blend of
spirituality, theology and psychology. The intriguing idea coined by McMinn has direct
applicability to counseling that a counselor would be able to amalgamate spirituality and
psychology only if his own life is rich in spiritual attributes.
Apart from the positive features of the book, a few things have gone unanswered in book as Lord,
the greatest spiritual counselor, has remained out of the narration when it came to the self
determination that when and how to integrate prayer, scripture or call for forgiveness. The impact
of book would have doubled if there was much reference to the spiritual work.
Another question striking the mind is that would same counseling approach would be appropriate
for every age group particularly the teenagers? McMinn (1996) has not revealed that how to tackle
the teens in the prescribed perspective of spirituality because they are the most difficult group to
counsel especially when it comes to

Explain the mechanism referred to in the above statement...
Trade between advanced countries that are abundant in capital and skill and NIEs (Newly
Industrialising Economies) with their abundant supply of unskilled labour was raising the wages of
highly skilled workers and lowering the wages of less skilled workers in the skill and capital
abundant countries (Krugman, Obstfeld and Melitz). Explain the mechanism referred to in the
above statement using the Heckscher Ohlin model.
The Heckscher Ohlin model is extremely useful when illustrating how endowments of a particular
resource can influence trade between economies. The model shows us how comparative advantage
is explained somewhat by the relative abundance of certain resources, such as land, labour or
capital.
The Heckscher Ohlin (HO) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assuming the demand schedule is identical in both countries, then without trade, Foreign s own
market equilibrium is at 1 and Home s equilibrium for cars is at 2 . When the two countries trade,
the relative world price converges to a point somewhere in between these two points at 3 .
We can see from the above illustration that trade leads to a convergence of world prices at point 3.
The Foreign economy will therefore export the good that has seen an increase in its relative price.
Now that we have seen how prices change under the assumptions of the HO model, I will now
explain how these changes have an impact on the distribution of income in countries open to
trade. A rise in the prices of cars increases the purchasing power of skilled labour (the abundant
factor) in the foreign country in terms of both goods. At the same time it decreases the purchasing
power of unskilled labour (the scarce factor) in terms of both goods. So by opening up to trade,
the owners of the abundant factor become better off, whilst owners of the scarce factor become
worse off.
Theoretically, opening to trade should increase the consumption possibilities for the whole
economy, allowing everyone to gain a higher utility. So why do some people become worse off,
post trade under the HO model? The underlying issue is that trade only changes relative prices of
factors, which has a direct effect on the relative earnings of those

Social Darwinism Vs Unfit Essay
Lord of the Flies, by William Golding presents the theory of Social Darwinism where the
physically fit dominates over the unfit. Social Darwinism describes the physical strengths of a
person which allows them to receive power even with illogical ideas or reasoning. In this society,
appearance seems to affect a person s statue, although with Social Darwinism, an individual is
judged entirely by his/her physical characteristics. The individuals born with exceptional athletic
abilities are seen as fit, while the unfit are those who are incapable of heavy physical activities.
The display of the physically fit people acquiring a vast advantage over the unfit is explained in

The fit sees no reason to assist those who are vulnerable because that would only promote a gain
of the undesired reproduction. All the resources should go to the fittest and strongest in life to
enable those individuals to flourish beautifully. As mentioned in the article, the society favors
the fittest of all walks in life . The little ones were left alone on the island to feed themselves
because they were considered to be a burden to the tribe since they don t have the skills to fend
for themselves. The older boys did not feel the responsibilities of nurturing the little ones
unconsciously. This shows that the influence of Social Darwinism is inveterate. Those who are
in dreadful situations often have no intention of being there. However, Social Darwinism
implies those have the intention of being there, hence the naturalistic fallacy described by the
article. Take the little boys on the island for example, they did not intend to be incapable of

Education, Gender Roles And Humanism
Education, Gender Roles and Humanism in the Renaissance. Throughout the fourteenth and into
the fifteenth century there were a number of tragic events that directly caused a revitalization of
society. This revitalization was needed to restore hope to the people that were living each day for
survival. Some of these events were the destabilization of the Catholic Church with the relocation of
the papacy from Rometo Avignon. This would soon be followed by the Black Death and its
mammoth death toll that lead to the reduction of work forces and uprisings of peasants . At the
same time England and France were fighting a series of wars that were later be deem The Hundred
Years War and this battle would add to a western mindset that was being cultivated to expect death,
destruction, violence, sickness and poverty. In the midst of this depressing and violent society, Italy
and more specifically Florence, saw a need for change and to work towards the elevation of
society, the creation of a new society, and a new mindset to bring about a more civil and cultured
society. This lead to a new philosophy called Humanism and this Humanistic evolution of the
educational system involved a total reconstruction of the university curriculum, as well as the
resetting ideals of gender roles. In the beginning of this new society there was a great admiration
for classic Roman culture and this was the model being used with a great focus on the arts,
philosophy, religion, and honor. The

Essay On Alternative Dispute Resolution
Introduction
This paper will examine when it is appropriate to attempt alternative dispute resolution (ADR)
processes for disputes and conversely when it is fitting for matters to be decided in a courtroom
with black robed judges and well dressed lawyers. Complementing the correct intervention
[courtroom, facilitative ADR or another form of ADR] at the right time, price and place with the
right disputants is not necessarily an easy task (Wade 2010, p. 13) and the line separating
alternative dispute resolution processes and judicial intervention can be blurred especially as
judicial officers conduct, refer or mandate parties to participate in ADR (Sourdin, 2009, p. 190).

But ADR is much more than that. The consensual interaction between the disputants during an
ADR process is how conflict is resolved (Street, 2002). Whereas a court determination takes over
responsibility for the matter (Heilbronn et al, 1996, p. 262) and imposes an outcome that may not
be palatable to either party (David, 1991, p. 4).
A decision made in a traditional courtroom may attempt to remedy the fallout from a dispute but it
may not solve the problem that caused the conflict in the first place. When there is a need for the
parties to a dispute to continue to have a relationship (for example in families and workplaces)
failing to address the issues that caused the conflict in the first place may mean that it hasn t been
resolved and this may lead to further conflict. If the serious [and] important needs of parties in
dispute are not met this can compound... the problem (Zehr, 1985, p. 1).
In addition to the monetary costs associated with court action and tremendous social costs there are
also psychological costs associated with anxiety and hostility [and]... lost opportunities for
productive, cooperative endeavors (Burgess, 1989 as cited by Spencer and Hardy, 2009, p. 669).
Alternative dispute resolution can decrease the transaction costs connected with legal action

Miss Heroin
Language devices have a heavy presence in poetry to successful communicate perspective. Take Me
in Your Arms utilises personification in an extended metaphor to aid in the reader s comprehension
of heroin s affect. The poem, alternately titled Miss Heroin , presents the drug as a woman, making
direct reference and alluding to several human traits and a socially recognised stereotype throughout
the text. The poem, written entirely in first person, is composed in such a way that the reader seems
to be communicating directly with the personified drug: heroin. This both engages the audience and
aids in the reader s willingness to comprehend the experience as if their own. Personifying the drug,
the author includes phrases including now, little

Benzocaine And 9-Fluorenone Lab Report
In order to isolate benzoic acid, benzocaine and 9 fluorenone, each component needed to be
separated from one another. All three compounds began together in one culture tube, dissolved in
methylene chloride and formed into a homogenous mixture. In this culture tube, two milliliters of
aqueous three molar hydrochloric acidwas added, which immediately formed two layers, the top
acidic aqueous layer was clear in color and contained benzocaine, and the bottom organic formed
was yellow and contained benzoic acidand 9 fluorenone. Benzocaine s amino group is protonated
by the aqueous layer hydronium. This protonation forms the conjugate acid of benzocaine,
benzocaine hydrochloride. Thus, the conjugate acid, benzocaine hydrochloride is a salt in which is
soluble in water and furthermore can be isolated from the organic mixture. When testing out the pH
levels in benzocaine, the pH test strip was dark blue in color, indicating a pH level of around 5
to 7. When isolating benzoic acid, two milliliters of aqueous three molar sodium hydroxide was
added, which deprotonates the carboxylic group in benzoic acid, forming its conjugate base,
sodium benzoate. As with benzocaine hydrochloride, sodium benzoate is a water soluble ionic
salt in the aqueous layer that can then be separated from the bottom organic layer containing the
9 fluorenone. The pH test strip was a vibrant red for benzoic acid, indicating a pH of 2. Now the 9
fluorenone is left, deionized water is added to remove any excess

Racial Bias And Racial Stereotypes Essay
The issue of race representation which becomes even more serious and cause for concern at the

Well development of the media is one of the significant factors which influences the issue,

on 11 July at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia to fight in World War I1. In early 1918, 6TH
Marine Regiment joined the 5TH Marine Regiment and the 6TH Machine Gun Battalion to

the Toulon Sector, where the regiment suffered its first combat casualties1. Being forced to

Character Analysis Of Ziu Xiu, The Sent Down Girl
Xiu Xiu the sent Down Girl is from the book Tian Yu, which is written by Yan Geling and
directed by Joan Chen. The Chinese government is ordering kids to go around the country to
start working, Xiu Xiu, portrayed by Li Xiaolu, is one of the kids sent to do so. She doesn t
want to do this, but she decided if she were to, she would take up horse training, so she can be a
part of the Girls Iron Cavalry. She is sent to the mountains to train under Lao Jin (Lopsang), a
once famous horseman, now injured and lives a quiet life in the mountains. Throughout the
movie as the two are living together, they have their difficulties, but it seemed like they had a
good time. As time passes, Xiu Xiu is growing worry, because she hasn t received a word from
her home or the government. As for Lao Jin, he realizes that he has feeling for Xiu Xiu, but due
to his injury, he could do anything. Instead, he feels more like a family/ Father figure in her life.
This part of the movie, is like the main character looking for hope and staying cheerful, like a child
usually is.
At the middle of the movie Xiu Xiu has waited a long time to receive word about returning home
or anywhere. Until, one day a peddler (Gao Qiang) comes along, and informs her that the Girls
Iron Cavalry has disbanded. That informs the watcher that she has been up in the mountains with
Lao Jin for a long time. As they continue to talk, he tells her that she needs to make connections
with people to find a way back home, which later means having sex with numerous men. This part
of the movie, there are numerous sexual scenes and you can see that she is changing. For
example, Lao Jin being the father figure, must go through knowing that she is having sex with
multiple men and yet he does what he can do to help her and she acts very demanding/ rude to
him. This part is very hard to watch, because it tells you that the little girl from the beginning of the
movie is no more. Things start to pick up, when they are fixing up their tent and then showing her
throwing up, suggesting she might be pregnant. Again, you see Lao Jin rushing her to the hospital
and the movie suggest she had an abortion. This part of the movie is very sad, because she as the
viewer, you know she will

Similarities And Differences Between The Aeneid And The...
In many ways, Virgil s Aeneid mirrors Homer s Odyssey. Through context, characters, and themes,
these two famous ancient epic poems are similar; however, in morality and treatment towards the
gods, they differ drastically. By comparing the two protagonists most popular epithets, one can
immediately see how unalike they truly are. Odysseusis often referred to as The Stormer of Cities
or the Sacker of Cities whereas Aeneas is almost always referred to as the Pious or Good Aeneas
(depending on the translation). These two epithets create a divergence in theme culture between the
two epics, for they directly reflect the morals of the cities that these epics are written for and about:
Rome and Athens. How a community presents their hero is how they present their ethos. The
original of the two, the Odysseywas written (supposedly) by Homer around the end of the eighth
century before common era. As one of the oldest works of Western Literature, the Odyssey set the
stage for the later epics to come. Evidently, one of those works would be Virgil s Aeneid
commissioned by Augustus himself. On the other hand, it is rumored that Augustus asked Virgil to
write an epic in order to raise the moral and integrity of the Roman Republic and bring Rome back
to its original values.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Negative Capability within Kubla Khan Essay
There are a myriad of critical theory lenses that can be applied and utilized to closely observe
pieces of literature. One of these theories is John Keats s Negative Capability theory which
consists of an idea of ...when man is capable of being in uncertainties, Mysteries, doubts, without
any irritable reaching after fact reason... (Keats 968). Ultimately, this signifies that in poetry the
emphasis be placed on the significance of inquisitiveness and the asking of questions of the life
and scenery around one s self, rather than placing emphasis on strongly searching for these
answers. This theory can be applied to a multitude of works, but for these sakes and purposes what

Is there more? Since the dream was forgotten, there is an obvious abrupt stop to the work, which
can never be truly completed. It is even stated that, ...the Author has frequently purposed to

So, readers are told from the start that this work is not finished, which instantly sparks a
curiosity of what was the whole dream? Whilst the poem sparks this interest for knowledge
within the reader, this need is never sated within the reader due to the fact that none of their
questions can be answered. Due to the dream like essence of this poem, and the fact that the
dream itself ...passed away like the images on the surface of a stream which a stone had been
cast... there are no answers offered (Coleridge 460). The parts of the dream that faded away for
the speaker may have contained the answers to these questions, but unfortunately neither the reader
nor the speaker will ever know. So, this poem instills this sense of inquisitiveness, but it does not
go against the theory of Negative Capability due to the fact that it does not offer these questions
that arise upon reading. Additionally, what makes this embody Negative Capability so well is the
fact that it does not even seem like the work is attempting to answer these questions. It provides the
reader detail after detail about this dream world, yet it does not offer anything to the readers

same sex adoptions at all. There are two sides to the argument of same sex adoption, and to really

Control The Wildfires Of Alberta Canada
Humans maintain the park and influence mandatory controlled fires as well as control the
wildfires. Wildfires are required to burn in order to keep the ecosystem in check. In Banff
National Park, these fires burn in old growth areas. Once the fire is burned out it leaves nutrients
in the soil to aid in regrowth for future plants. After the fire Grizzly Bears rummage through the
now loose and nutrient rich soil for certain roots that are apart of their diets. These roots are only
accessible to the Grizzly Bear after a fire has cleared out the forest. Once regeneration starts, the
nutrients in the soil allow other food sources to begin growth and bears start to forage for them.
The cycle continues once the forest has regrown. Banff National Park in Alberta Canada has a
very interesting climate. The study site only a few miles away from the city of Banff resides on
the front ranges of the Rocky Mountains. The Continental Divide is only 45 km (28 miles) west of
the study location. The climate around the park as a whole is interesting. It is commonly known to
be completely different weather at varying temperatures all over the park. Throughout the day, the
weather frequently changes dramatically. Areas studied included dry meadows, shrub fields and
shrub lands, open or immature forest and mature forests. All of which have a nutrient rich post
wildfire soil. The forests are primarily spruce, lodgepole pine, subalpine fir and alpine larch. The

The Globalization Of The World Economies Is A Direct...
Over the past few decades, particularly during the 2000s, financial markets around the globe have
become increasingly interconnected (Shmukler, 2004). This mounting integration of the world
economies is a direct result of globalization. Particularly, the globalization of financial markets is
characterized by substantial cross national flows of capital and the development of a large foreign
exchange market. Every day around the world, banks and stockbrokers transfer vast amounts of
money across country borders in the form of retirement funds, hedge funds, insurance, and similar
investments. For instance, a German national is able to purchase Facebook stock which is an
American based company that went public to venture capitalists around the... Show more content on

According to Schmukler (2004), when financial institutions in one country are under duress,
borrowers have the option to raise capital by issuing shares in domestic or international capital
markets. The globalization of finance make the valuing and distribution of capital more efficient
as changes in financial risks are revealed quickly. Furthermore, borrowers and investors can
obtain better terms on their financing as they are able to tap a broader pool of capital from a
more diverse and competitive array of providers (Häusler, 2002). Corporations can afford tangible
investments because they have become substantially cheaper. As a result, these reduced rates
improve economic activity and growth, in addition to economic prosperity. Emerging enterprises
and reputable banks can source funds from a diverse group of providers, and build their businesses.
On the other hand, the pitfalls of financial globalization include: the instability of markets,
distortion of the allocation of capital, emerging companies and banks are vulnerable because of
inadequate regulation, and the contagion phenomenon. The globalization of financial markets are
volatile and this may threaten markets. When the globalization of financial market occurs, financial
risk will become actively traded among companies, investors, and other nations. Consequently, it
becomes challenging to pinpoint potential challenges and measure

Furniture design is particularly dependent on trends....
Furniture design is particularly dependent on trends. During a period of time, the design or general
appearances of furniture design changes over the course of history which was influenced by
architectural style. Therefore, there are many different types of furniture design available in the
market nowadays including wall kitchen cabinets. Most wall cabinets are simply for storage but
nowadays, people require durable, sturdy, long lasting yet affordable furniture with improved
functionality.
At present, in order to have the above mentioned qualities dictated by changing customer demand it
is necessary to develop new types of furniture with improved functionality. The desire in furniture
style to create new designs or different appearances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
French cleat is made from two piece of dimensional lumber that ripped to a specific angle where
each of it will be attached to the wall and cabinet. It can be cut to specific measurement and fit
securely in any kitchen cabinet with the greatest of ease because the cabinet can be designed with
varying design with movable features. Sancaktar et al. (2003) explained that the higher the strength
of joints is influenced by the taper angle at the end of lap zone.
The French cleats which are almost like scarf joint types of bonded joints exhibited excellent static
performance particularly under compression loading and cyclic fatigue characteristics. The
performance demonstrated the effectiveness of this configuration from a perspective design
(Broughton et al., 1999). However, designing an optimum French cleat using engineered wood
material is complex due to the physical properties and fiber direction that might influence the joint
performance.
LVL is an engineered woodproduct and has been developed as an alternative to solid wood.
According to Colak et al. (2004), due to the manufacturing process in the making of LVL, this
material produced a higher strength product and is available in unlimited length and sizes. In any
kitchen cabinet construction, LVL could be used advantageously in several area to match the
quality needed (Eckelman, 1993).
Due to their advantages mentioned

Catoctin Mountain Review Essay
Introduction:
The National Park Service (NPS) and the U. S. Department of the Interior (USDI) drafted the
Catoctin Mountain National Park Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
(2006) to impart knowledge of a need for action to facilitate the regeneration of vegetation and
reforestation of the park. A population of white tailed deerthat was exceeding an estimated 100
individual animals per square mile was over browsing the vegetation. According to the EIS a
population of 15 to 20 individuals is optimal to protect herd health and allow regeneration of the
vegetation. The EIS listed four alternatives that were investigated in depth according to the National
Environmental Protection Act requirements (FHWA, n.d.) these... Show more content on

This alternative would reach the goals through the length of the plan. The reduction in deer
population would not be rapid and regeneration would be seen mostly in the exclusions until the
population had diminished and the plan cost is over $9.5 million. The preferred alternative,
alternative C was comprised of the continuation of alternative A with the use of sharpshooting and
the subduing and euthanization of deer to rapidly reduce the population to the goal range in three
years. Through this alternative the goals would be meet in a relatively short time frame at a cost
between $738,600 and $941,100. The final alternative, alternative D also continued alternative A
with the combination of sharpshooting, euthanization, and reproduction control. Alternative D
would meet the goals of the plan in a similar time frame as alternative C with a cost of between
$1.4 and $1.6 million.
Rejected alternatives:
Several alternatives were rejected for various reasons. The first rejected alternative was a managed
hunt, for the need of legislation change in congress to allow a hunt on NPS land and possible cost
and safety issues. A second was sterilization of bucks, which would only show moderate control of
the population if the dominant buck were sterilized. Predator reintroduction was next rejected,
because studies have shown that predators have not shown consistent

In 2003, George W. Bush invaded Iraq, believing that the country s president Saddam Hussein
was using weapons of mass destruction against the people of Iraq. This war started a larger war,
named Operation Iraqi Freedom . The consequence of this inessential war were the lives of over
4000 Americans, over 1 trillion dollars in spending, and superfluous tension in the Middle East.
Though there are many theories on why Bush invaded Iraq, the one that makes the most sense is
overconfidence. Simply put, George W. Bushand his administration had faulty and ambiguous
evidence, but their overconfidence and pride lead them to put the war into action anyway. This self
assuredness lead to the expiration of Bush s tenure and the broken hearts of many... Show more

Mr. Bea talks about British Petroleum, which is most known for its oil spill in the Gulf of
Mexico. Bea pointed to the congressional testimony, that BP ignored problems with a dead
battery, leak cement job and loose hydraulic fittings (Borenstein). Here, BP s excessive pride
lead to improper thinking, BP specifically thought that it could continue to ship and drill oil with
a variety of known problems. In the end, BP faced a lot of criticism and worst of all, the Gulf of
Mexico is now perilously polluted with oil. Many people like to believe that pride is something
noble, something to treasure, but that is a false truism. Pride will actually bring a person to make
false judgments and thinking, which will lead to the falling apart of the general public.
Apart from causing fabricated beliefs, hubris will cause individuals to be so confident that they
set completely impractical goals. One example is best expressed by Mr. Lee Clarke, who is an
author and professor at Rutgers University. Clarke made up an example of unrealistic goals
involving British Petroleum s drilling, saying we have been doing this every day, every year,
week in, week out, so next week we go to 5000 feet, it will be like last week when we went to 300
feet (Borenstein). BP s overconfidence has undoubtedly caused them to set ridiculous expectations.
In this scenario, BP is trying

Arthur Birling and Sheila Birling in An Inspector Calls by...
Arthur Birling and Sheila Birling in An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley I have chosen to write
my essay about Mr.Arthur Birling and Mrs. Sheila Birling. I have chosen these characters
because they have different views on the events concerning Eva Smith. Sheila, for instance, felt
extremely regretful about the incident involving the sacking of Eva Smith and we can tell this
because she says And I m desperately sorry neither did she show any relief after hearing that the
inspector was a hoax. Arthur Birling, however, blamed Eva entirely for getting sacked from his
factory and also displayed great relief when hearing that the inspector was a fake, This makes a
difference, y know. In fact, it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She then tries to justify herself to the rest of the group by imitating what she may have been
thinking, as if to say doesn t she look awful but to no success. Mr. Birling on the other hand,
expresses his indifference and doesn t change his mind, I can t expect any responsibility. He
refers to her as this girl , now about this girl . He obviously just thinks of her as a silly little girl
without a life or feelings. The Inspector tries to make him feel guilty by putting the facts bluntly
and saying You started it. She wanted twenty five shillings a week instead of twenty two and
sixpence. You made her pay a heavy price for that. I agree with the inspector and think that if he
had just taken the liberty to find out why she was so desperate for the increase in salary it may
have made him see things a bit differently and even give her the raise. As for Sheila, I think she
treated Eva terribly and if the rest of the characters had shown some acknowledgement to Sheila
s justification of what she did to Eva Sheila may not have been so quick to express regret. Despite
Sheila s obvious signs of regret the inspector stills try to make her feel bad by saying things like,
yes but you can t. It is too late. She is dead. He puts the facts very bluntly and

How Did X-Rays Change The World
Imagine a machine that made what was once invisible, visible. Wilhelm Roentgen discovered the
X ray in 1895. X rays impacted the field of medicine greatly. The discovery of X rays
significantly changed how we could see the human body, treatment options, and how we viewed
X rays. Wilhelm C. Roentgen was a German physicist. He was born on March 27, 1845, and
died on February 10, 1923. He was married to, Anna Bertha Ludwig. He received education from
the University of Zurich, the Institute of Martinus Herman van Doorn, ETH Zurich and the
University of Strasbourg. He received the Nobel Prize in physics in 1901 for discovering X rays.

This can help them diagnose, monitor, and treat many medical conditions, (Healthline.com).
This changed the world of medicine. Looking inside a human body using X rays made
diagnosing and monitoring medical problems easier and more efficient. They no longer have to
make incisions, they can just use X rays to see what going on inside of your body. Doctors are
able to see inside the body because the way the X rays react with the density of the organs and
bones inside of you. Soft tissue, such as skin and organs, cannot absorb the high energy rays, and
the beam passes through them. Dense materials inside our bodies, like bones, absorb the
radiation. (Wonderopolis.org). This is why we are able to see bones and other things inside our
bodies. Black areas on an x ray which is flesh and soft tissue show where the X rays passed
through. White areas on x rays show where denser tissues like bones have absorbed the X rays.
(RadiologyInfo.org). The white areas that show up on the X rays are what allows the doctors to
see the inside of the body. The doctors view the body because of how the radiation reacts with the
differences in density of organs, flesh, bones,

Timothy Cooper was just one of the thousands of West Indians who fled to Britain. despite having a
cramped journey, when Timothy saw Britain in sight, his eyes opened and jolted and he thought the
journey had been well worth it. (Information about Timothy cooper taken from Modern Minds the
Twenty first century world.) The black carrabieins expectations were so high that they couldn t
even think of the worst of what could happen.
In June 1948 the SS Empire Windrush had just arrived in Britain. The press and the cinema
news reels gave them a mighty warm welcome. One newparper article from the Manchester
Guardian in 23rd June 1948 said, one of them looked over the unlovely town to the grey green
field behond and said, If this is England, I like it. A good omen perhaps. This article is saying
that Britain is not that great, but it looks great to those who arrive. Members of the public were
very discriminating, judgemental, unfair and racist towards the Afro carrabiens. Violence broke
out in Liverpool as soon as 1948. The West Indains had been attacked by mobs of white people. The
new arrivals couldn t understand what was going on, this was their mother country they called it.
The West Indians found it especially hard to find somwhere to live. Many times they were
unfortunate to see some very unpleasent

My Dream Career
The rise in numbers for doctors are growing and many people don t understand all the aspect that
it takes to even be considered to become a doctor. The years of education that are required depend
on what someone would like to specialize in. Sadly though, college and medical school both cost a
lot and takes time away from planning further along. Although the path to this career is hard, but it
allows them to have an easy lifestyle. My dream career to become a physicianfor it requires
motivation, high level of education, and a stable mentality. These qualities are what I need to
ensure I achieve the type of lifestyle I hope to achieve by the end.
The lifestyle of a phyisican is very stable since the pay for the job is high, but it depends a lot on
what area someone wants to specialize in. In the Omaha, Nebraska, the annual base salary that the
average Physician in Neurology receives is between $200,419 $269,254. (Salary.com). The range
is based on a percentile of physicians in the area as the medium of pay is $229,324 (Salary.com).
However, there are many factors that affect the base salary like location and corporation minus all
the benefits and bonus a physician receives over the time they work. Yet the benefits themselves are
usually the remaining 23.5% of the 76.5% that their core compensation comes from. These benefits
(healthcare, Time Off, etc.) plus their base totals their full compensation to $309,081 for annual
pay. (Salary.com). In all the pay for a physician in

Theme Of Money In The Great Gatsby
There s no point in denying it, we all love money and want lots of it. We yearn to be like the
richest people in the world, who have so much money they can do whatever they want. Maybe
some of us even want to be the richest person in the world, at this moment the richest man in the
world is Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon. He has a net worth of 90.6 billion dollars, something none
of us will ever experience, but can dream about. But dreams pertaining to money can only get us so
far. Money is a theme consistently expressed throughout two novels, The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott
Fitzgerald, and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Fitzgerald s novel considers money largely
through the eyes of a very wealthy man who flourishes in life, whose name is Gatsby. On the
other hand, Steinbeck s novel describes the story of two men, who have little money and no
accomplishments to boast about whatsoever. The Great Gatsby and Of Mice and Men show that
great success and quality of life is determined by who you know, and how much money you have.
In The Great Gatsby, the main character Jay Gatsby is a very successful, well to do man because he
has many business acquaintances and experiences no shortages of money. Gatsby begins his
journey towards prosperity when he first meets Dan Cody. Dan Cody is a very a wealthy and
knowledgeable man who supplies Gatsby with both the expertise and necessary material tools to
exceed in life (Fitzgerald 100). Once Gatsby sets out to make his own fortune, he never

  • 8. Review Of Gramsci s Political Thought The Prison... AJ FAAS 3 4 08 A REVIEW OF GRAMSCI S POLITICAL THOUGHT IN THE PRISON NOTEBOOKS [DRAFT DO NOT CITE WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION OF THE AUTHOR] Antonio Gramsci was an Italian communist scholar, journalist, and activist who served as a deputy member of the Italian Parliament, representing the Italian Communist Party (PCI), which he helped to establish in 1923. In the wake of the triumph of Mussolini and the Italian fascists in 1926, Gramsci was sentenced to 20 years in prison in order to prevent his thought from spreading (Crehan 2003:17). From 1926 to 1937, when he was released from prison only to die one week later, Gramsci composed thirty two notebooks (over 2,350 printed pages) which has come to be regarded as his greatest work and an unfinished classic of Marxist thought (Simon 1991; Crehan 2002). The fact that he composed these great works while he was in prison and during a time of political turmoil that provoked him has particularly confounding effects on the reader. First, these notebooks were hand written in prison and he frequently revisits or elaborates on earlier notes throughout the journals. They are therefore not organized under coherent headings to facilitate a systematic interpretation of his thoughts. Some editors organize the notes under their own themes, and Gramsci himself at times inserts instructions that one passage should be tied to another, but some imposed order is always inevitable. Second, Gramsci, though in prison, was very much informed, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stereotypes are at the basis of every dispute, argument, or violence we as people are quick to judge other people even if we have never got to know the person we re criticizing. If stereotypes continue we will become a world with separated groups of people that are at war with each other.Stereotypes can be defined as image or labelthat can be held on a group of people based on their appearances, and they impact our society in many ways (Stereotype). For example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says that That was scarring. I felt like after a while, as I grew older and my consciousness evolved, I chose to not perm my hair anymore (Staff). This evidence supports the idea that we may change our appearances like Jamila Lyiscott, for people judge us based on things like our hair. Jamila Lyiscott felt like she was placed in a certain group based on her appearance and this is what stereotypes are. Clearly, stereotypes affect our world greatly just like it affected Jamila Lyiscott and how she presented herself to society. The topic of stereotypes is also explored through literature. The men are presenting themselves as expected of them society. Hence, the commercial is illustrating what Goffman calls commercial realism (Jhally, 2009). Since the viewer tries to resist the advertisements, this commercial is quick and effective, and thus uses codes of gender display because they are familiar to us all (Jhally, 2009). Evidently, the commercial aims at depicting men as metrosexual or rather intruded by the everyday activities to reinforce the features of masculinity: active, aware of the world and in charge of their surroundings. This point echoes Sean Nixon s genealogy of the development (1996) of how the representational practice of masculinity is derived from fashion (metrosexual imagery) and advertising (masculine features) (Gill, forthcoming, para 8). Trade between advanced countries that are abundant in capital and skill and NIEs (Newly Industrialising Economies) with their abundant supply of unskilled labour was raising the wages of highly skilled workers and lowering the wages of less skilled workers in the skill and capital abundant countries (Krugman, Obstfeld and Melitz). Explain the mechanism referred to in the above statement using the Heckscher Ohlin model. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assuming the demand schedule is identical in both countries, then without trade, Foreign s own market equilibrium is at 1 and Home s equilibrium for cars is at 2 . When the two countries trade, the relative world price converges to a point somewhere in between these two points at 3 . We can see from the above illustration that trade leads to a convergence of world prices at point 3. The Foreign economy will therefore export the good that has seen an increase in its relative price. Now that we have seen how prices change under the assumptions of the HO model, I will now explain how these changes have an impact on the distribution of income in countries open to trade. A rise in the prices of cars increases the purchasing power of skilled labour (the abundant factor) in the foreign country in terms of both goods. At the same time it decreases the purchasing power of unskilled labour (the scarce factor) in terms of both goods. So by opening up to trade, the owners of the abundant factor become better off, whilst owners of the scarce factor become worse off. Theoretically, opening to trade should increase the consumption possibilities for the whole economy, allowing everyone to gain a higher utility. So why do some people become worse off, post trade under the HO model? Throughout the fourteenth and into the fifteenth century there were a number of tragic events that directly caused a revitalization of society. This revitalization was needed to restore hope to the people that were living each day for survival. Some of these events were the destabilization of the Catholic Church with the relocation of the papacy from Rometo Avignon. This would soon be followed by the Black Death and its mammoth death toll that lead to the reduction of work forces and uprisings of peasants . At the same time England and France were fighting a series of wars that were later be deem The Hundred Years War and this battle would add to a western mindset that was being cultivated to expect death, destruction, violence, sickness and poverty. In the midst of this depressing and violent society, Italy and more specifically Florence, saw a need for change and to work towards the elevation of society, the creation of a new society, and a new mindset to bring about a more civil and cultured society. This lead to a new philosophy called Humanism and this Humanistic evolution of the educational system involved a total reconstruction of the university curriculum, as well as the resetting ideals of gender roles. In the beginning of this new society there was a great admiration for classic Roman culture and this was the model being used with a great focus on the arts, philosophy, religion, and honor. The ... A decision made in a traditional courtroom may attempt to remedy the fallout from a dispute but it may not solve the problem that caused the conflict in the first place. Take Me in Your Arms utilises personification in an extended metaphor to aid in the reader s comprehension of heroin s affect. The poem, alternately titled Miss Heroin , presents the drug as a woman, making direct reference and alluding to several human traits and a socially recognised stereotype throughout the text. The poem, written entirely in first person, is composed in such a way that the reader seems to be communicating directly with the personified drug: heroin. All three compounds began together in one culture tube, dissolved in methylene chloride and formed into a homogenous mixture. In this culture tube, two milliliters of aqueous three molar hydrochloric acidwas added, which immediately formed two layers, the top acidic aqueous layer was clear in color and contained benzocaine, and the bottom organic formed was yellow and contained benzoic acidand 9 fluorenone. Benzocaine s amino group is protonated by the aqueous layer hydronium. This protonation forms the conjugate acid of benzocaine, benzocaine hydrochloride. Thus, the conjugate acid, benzocaine hydrochloride is a salt in which is soluble in water and furthermore can be isolated from the organic mixture. When testing out the pH levels in benzocaine, the pH test strip was dark blue in color, indicating a pH level of around 5 to 7. When isolating benzoic acid, two milliliters of aqueous three molar sodium hydroxide was added, which deprotonates the carboxylic group in benzoic acid, forming its conjugate base, sodium benzoate. As with benzocaine hydrochloride, sodium benzoate is a water soluble ionic salt in the aqueous layer that can then be separated from the bottom organic layer containing the 9 fluorenone. The pH test strip was a vibrant red for benzoic acid, indicating a pH of 2. Now the 9 fluorenone is left, deionized water is added to remove any excess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Chinese government is ordering kids to go around the country to start working, Xiu Xiu, portrayed by Li Xiaolu, is one of the kids sent to do so. She doesn t want to do this, but she decided if she were to, she would take up horse training, so she can be a part of the Girls Iron Cavalry. She is sent to the mountains to train under Lao Jin (Lopsang), a once famous horseman, now injured and lives a quiet life in the mountains. Throughout the movie as the two are living together, they have their difficulties, but it seemed like they had a good time. As time passes, Xiu Xiu is growing worry, because she hasn t received a word from her home or the government. As for Lao Jin, he realizes that he has feeling for Xiu Xiu, but due to his injury, he could do anything. Instead, he feels more like a family/ Father figure in her life. This part of the movie, is like the main character looking for hope and staying cheerful, like a child usually is. At the middle of the movie Xiu Xiu has waited a long time to receive word about returning home or anywhere. Until, one day a peddler (Gao Qiang) comes along, and informs her that the Girls Iron Cavalry has disbanded. That informs the watcher that she has been up in the mountains with Lao Jin for a long time. As they continue to talk, he tells her that she needs to make connections with people to find a way back home, which later means having sex with numerous men. This part of the movie, there are numerous sexual scenes and you can see that she is changing. For example, Lao Jin being the father figure, must go through knowing that she is having sex with multiple men and yet he does what he can do to help her and she acts very demanding/ rude to him. This part is very hard to watch, because it tells you that the little girl from the beginning of the movie is no more. Things start to pick up, when they are fixing up their tent and then showing her throwing up, suggesting she might be pregnant. Again, you see Lao Jin rushing her to the hospital and the movie suggest she had an abortion. This part of the movie is very sad, because she as the viewer, you know she will ... Through context, characters, and themes, these two famous ancient epic poems are similar; however, in morality and treatment towards the gods, they differ drastically. By comparing the two protagonists most popular epithets, one can immediately see how unalike they truly are. Odysseusis often referred to as The Stormer of Cities or the Sacker of Cities whereas Aeneas is almost always referred to as the Pious or Good Aeneas (depending on the translation). These two epithets create a divergence in theme culture between the two epics, for they directly reflect the morals of the cities that these epics are written for and about: Rome and Athens. How a community presents their hero is how they present their ethos. The original of the two, the Odysseywas written (supposedly) by Homer around the end of the eighth century before common era. As one of the oldest works of Western Literature, the Odyssey set the stage for the later epics to come. Evidently, one of those works would be Virgil s Aeneid commissioned by Augustus himself. LVL is an engineered woodproduct and has been developed as an alternative to solid wood. According to Colak et al. (2004), due to the manufacturing process in the making of LVL, this material produced a higher strength product and is available in unlimited length and sizes. In any kitchen cabinet construction, LVL could be used advantageously in several area to match the quality needed (Eckelman, 1993). Due to their advantages mentioned ... • 41. Catoctin Mountain Review Essay Introduction: The National Park Service (NPS) and the U. S. Department of the Interior (USDI) drafted the Catoctin Mountain National Park Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) (2006) to impart knowledge of a need for action to facilitate the regeneration of vegetation and reforestation of the park. A population of white tailed deerthat was exceeding an estimated 100 individual animals per square mile was over browsing the vegetation. According to the EIS a population of 15 to 20 individuals is optimal to protect herd health and allow regeneration of the vegetation. The EIS listed four alternatives that were investigated in depth according to the National Environmental Protection Act requirements (FHWA, n.d.) these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This alternative would reach the goals through the length of the plan. The reduction in deer population would not be rapid and regeneration would be seen mostly in the exclusions until the population had diminished and the plan cost is over $9.5 million. The preferred alternative, alternative C was comprised of the continuation of alternative A with the use of sharpshooting and the subduing and euthanization of deer to rapidly reduce the population to the goal range in three years. Through this alternative the goals would be meet in a relatively short time frame at a cost between $738,600 and $941,100. The final alternative, alternative D also continued alternative A with the combination of sharpshooting, euthanization, and reproduction control. Alternative D would meet the goals of the plan in a similar time frame as alternative C with a cost of between $1.4 and $1.6 million. Rejected alternatives: Several alternatives were rejected for various reasons. The first rejected alternative was a managed hunt, for the need of legislation change in congress to allow a hunt on NPS land and possible cost and safety issues. A second was sterilization of bucks, which would only show moderate control of the population if the dominant buck were sterilized. Predator reintroduction was next rejected, because studies have shown that predators have not shown consistent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bush invaded Iraq, believing that the country s president Saddam Hussein was using weapons of mass destruction against the people of Iraq. This war started a larger war, named Operation Iraqi Freedom . The consequence of this inessential war were the lives of over 4000 Americans, over 1 trillion dollars in spending, and superfluous tension in the Middle East. Though there are many theories on why Bush invaded Iraq, the one that makes the most sense is overconfidence. Simply put, George W. Bushand his administration had faulty and ambiguous evidence, but their overconfidence and pride lead them to put the war into action anyway. This self assuredness lead to the expiration of Bush s tenure and the broken hearts of many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mr. Bea talks about British Petroleum, which is most known for its oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Bea pointed to the congressional testimony, that BP ignored problems with a dead battery, leak cement job and loose hydraulic fittings (Borenstein). Here, BP s excessive pride lead to improper thinking, BP specifically thought that it could continue to ship and drill oil with a variety of known problems. In the end, BP faced a lot of criticism and worst of all, the Gulf of Mexico is now perilously polluted with oil. Many people like to believe that pride is something noble, something to treasure, but that is a false truism. Pride will actually bring a person to make false judgments and thinking, which will lead to the falling apart of the general public. Apart from causing fabricated beliefs, hubris will cause individuals to be so confident that they set completely impractical goals. One example is best expressed by Mr. Lee Clarke, who is an author and professor at Rutgers University. Clarke made up an example of unrealistic goals involving British Petroleum s drilling, saying we have been doing this every day, every year, week in, week out, so next week we go to 5000 feet, it will be like last week when we went to 300 feet (Borenstein). BP s overconfidence has undoubtedly caused them to set ridiculous expectations. In this scenario, BP is trying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Arthur Birling and Sheila Birling in An Inspector Calls by... Arthur Birling and Sheila Birling in An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley I have chosen to write my essay about Mr.Arthur Birling and Mrs. Sheila Birling. I have chosen these characters because they have different views on the events concerning Eva Smith. Sheila, for instance, felt extremely regretful about the incident involving the sacking of Eva Smith and we can tell this because she says And I m desperately sorry neither did she show any relief after hearing that the inspector was a hoax. Arthur Birling, however, blamed Eva entirely for getting sacked from his factory and also displayed great relief when hearing that the inspector was a fake, This makes a difference, y know. In fact, it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She then tries to justify herself to the rest of the group by imitating what she may have been thinking, as if to say doesn t she look awful but to no success. Mr. Birling on the other hand, expresses his indifference and doesn t change his mind, I can t expect any responsibility. He refers to her as this girl , now about this girl . He obviously just thinks of her as a silly little girl without a life or feelings. The Inspector tries to make him feel guilty by putting the facts bluntly and saying You started it. She wanted twenty five shillings a week instead of twenty two and sixpence. You made her pay a heavy price for that. I agree with the inspector and think that if he had just taken the liberty to find out why she was so desperate for the increase in salary it may have made him see things a bit differently and even give her the raise. As for Sheila, I think she treated Eva terribly and if the rest of the characters had shown some acknowledgement to Sheila s justification of what she did to Eva Sheila may not have been so quick to express regret. Despite Sheila s obvious signs of regret the inspector stills try to make her feel bad by saying things like, yes but you can t. It is too late. She is dead. He puts the facts very bluntly and ... • 44. How Did X-Rays Change The World Imagine a machine that made what was once invisible, visible. Wilhelm Roentgen discovered the X ray in 1895. X rays impacted the field of medicine greatly. The discovery of X rays significantly changed how we could see the human body, treatment options, and how we viewed X rays. Wilhelm C. Roentgen was a German physicist. He was born on March 27, 1845, and died on February 10, 1923. He was married to, Anna Bertha Ludwig. He received education from the University of Zurich, the Institute of Martinus Herman van Doorn, ETH Zurich and the University of Strasbourg. He received the Nobel Prize in physics in 1901 for discovering X rays. When Roentgen first discovered X rays, he didn t know what they were. He called them X rays to show that it ... Looking inside a human body using X rays made diagnosing and monitoring medical problems easier and more efficient. They no longer have to make incisions, they can just use X rays to see what going on inside of your body. Doctors are able to see inside the body because the way the X rays react with the density of the organs and bones inside of you. Soft tissue, such as skin and organs, cannot absorb the high energy rays, and the beam passes through them. Dense materials inside our bodies, like bones, absorb the radiation. (Wonderopolis.org). This is why we are able to see bones and other things inside our bodies. Black areas on an x ray which is flesh and soft tissue show where the X rays passed through. White areas on x rays show where denser tissues like bones have absorbed the X rays. (RadiologyInfo.org). The white areas that show up on the X rays are what allows the doctors to see the inside of the body. (Information about Timothy cooper taken from Modern Minds the Twenty first century world.) The black carrabieins expectations were so high that they couldn t even think of the worst of what could happen. In June 1948 the SS Empire Windrush had just arrived in Britain. The press and the cinema news reels gave them a mighty warm welcome. One newparper article from the Manchester Guardian in 23rd June 1948 said, one of them looked over the unlovely town to the grey green field behond and said, If this is England, I like it. A good omen perhaps. This article is saying that Britain is not that great, but it looks great to those who arrive. Members of the public were very discriminating, judgemental, unfair and racist towards the Afro carrabiens. Violence broke out in Liverpool as soon as 1948. • 47. Theme Of Money In The Great Gatsby There s no point in denying it, we all love money and want lots of it. We yearn to be like the richest people in the world, who have so much money they can do whatever they want. Maybe some of us even want to be the richest person in the world, at this moment the richest man in the world is Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon. He has a net worth of 90.6 billion dollars, something none of us will ever experience, but can dream about. But dreams pertaining to money can only get us so far. Money is a theme consistently expressed throughout two novels, The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Fitzgerald s novel considers money largely through the eyes of a very wealthy man who flourishes in life, whose name is Gatsby. On the other hand, Steinbeck s novel describes the story of two men, who have little money and no accomplishments to boast about whatsoever. The Great Gatsby and Of Mice and Men show that great success and quality of life is determined by who you know, and how much money you have. In The Great Gatsby, the main character Jay Gatsby is a very successful, well to do man because he has many business acquaintances and experiences no shortages of money. Gatsby begins his journey towards prosperity when he first meets Dan Cody. Dan Cody is a very a wealthy and knowledgeable man who supplies Gatsby with both the expertise and necessary material tools to exceed in life (Fitzgerald 100).
