Research Paper On Concorat
Just at the time when the Concordat was in its most flourishing condition, a young man belonging
to a wealthy and highly respected middle class family went to the office of the head of the police
at P , and begged for his help and advice, which was immediately promised him.
My father threatens to disinherit me, the young man then began, although I have never offended
against the laws of the State, of morality or of his paternal authority, merely because I do not share
his blind reverence for the Catholic Church and her Ministers. On that account he looks upon me,
not merely as Latitudinarian, but as a perfect Atheist, and a faithful old manservant of ours, who is

2 Neither do I, the police director replied; but I cannot well do anything on this dangerous ground
if I had nothing but superstitions to go upon. You know how the Church rules all our affairs
since the Concordat with Rome, and if I investigate this matter, and obtain no results, I am
risking my post. It would be very different if you could adduce any proofs for your suspicions. I
do not deny that I should like to see the clerical party, which will, I fear, be the ruin of Austria,
receive a staggering blow; try, therefore, to get to the bottom of this business, and then we will talk
it over again.
About a month passed without the young Latitudinarian being heard of; but then he suddenly came
one evening, evidently in a great state of excitement, and told him that he was in a position to
expose the priestly deceit which he had mentioned, if the authorities would assist him. The police
director asked for further

Challenges of Development in Sumer and Egypt Essay
An analysis of the two civilizations, Sumer and Egypt reveals one challenge facing human social
development: geography and environmental features tend to shape the patterns of civilizations.
Although the civilization of Sumer was prosperous and powerful, its geographical features
ultimately weakened Sumer, exposing its vulnerability to invasion by neighboring civilizations.
Egypt was similar to Mesopotamian civilizations in many ways, but Egypt s distinct differences led
to a distinguished social systems: government, economic, and religion that contributed to the
seemingly endless prosperity of the Egyptians.
The Sumerians eventually fell to those civilizations that prevailed with more favoring topographic
assets. Sumer was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Military was a strong aspect since Sumer had no known natural barriers. The economy used crops
as a form of money, as well as trade being important since Sumer had little natural resources.
To fully utilize natural resources, the Sumerians created many inventions that lead to evolutionary
advancements with technology. Bronze weapons were replaced with Iron, the invention of the plow
and eventual domestication of animals for agricultural purposes, and the sailboat, which was used
as a mode of transportation for the trade of goods among neighboring civilizations. Among the most
important inventions was the use of simple clay, the foundation of an organized communication
system among the Sumerians made up of symbols, known as cuneiform. The output of knowledge
by the Sumerians, despite harsh geographical circumstances, gave way as an influential role for
growth and development in other civilizations such as Egypt with the invention of hieroglyphics,
along the way.
Similar to Sumer, Egypt was referred to as a river valley civilization. Egypt was divided into two
geographical parts, Upper and Lower Egypt. Lower Egypt was located at the Delta of the Nile
River. This was the location of Egypt s major cities. Upper Egypt contained small populations for
rural farmland located more upstream. Natural Resources include stone, metals, timber, and mud.
Natural barriers for the Egyptians included

The Impact Of Age On Participants Perceptions Of The...
Due to the global proliferation of social media, Facebook and other social networking sites
(SNS), researchers have taken an interest in studying the nature of how people utilise SNS
especially with regard to age disparities. However, there is a lack of qualitative research that
investigates participants values and perceptions of SNS (Pfeil, Arjan and Zaphiris 2009). The
purpose of this research is to explore this question by investigating the influence of age on
participants perceptions of the SNS, Facebook. Facebook was selected for this study due its
popularity, as identified by Tong et al. (2008) as having a membership population of
approximately eighteen million. The following literature review assisted us to narrow our focus
for our own research objective. The three main points discussed here are, differences in the
utilisation of SNS and perceived well being outcomes achieved through the use of Facebook
between older and younger users of the site; factors that influence levels of technology usage
such as, well being, socio economic status, psychosocial circumstances and age; and differences
between age groups in perceptions of SNS and levels of social capital gained from SNS. Hayes,
van Stolk Cooke and Muench (2015) suggest that age is a significant factor in exploring
differences in how Facebook is used. This study looked at how participants utilise Facebook and
participants perceived well being outcomes. Data were collected via an anonymous survey that

Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill s Song I Used To Love Him
The 9th track on the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill , I Used to Love Him starts with a monotonous
slow I used to love him but now I don t her regret and slowly healing pain apparent. The guitar riff
at the beginning sounds like a heartbeat close to dying although this beat continues throughout the
song, it picks up pace (in a similar fashion to Hill s now fixed heart). The song acts as a break up
venting session between Mary J. Blige and Hill and describes the after effects of her affair with
Jean Wyclef (her former Fugees bandmate).
The song is kind of vengeful, chronicling how good it feels to let go. Hill is crooning to her
audience while seeking forgiveness for what are sins in her eyes (letting a guy take control of her

Baseball As A National Pastime

the game on my TV. Baseballas a national pastime has experienced a decline in popularity
because of the increase of popularity of football, length of the season and cost of a game, and
length of plays and the game itself. Some fans believe that the increase of popularity of sports
other than baseball, such as football, can be attributed to the average size of football stadiums and
the average game attendance. Americans in general like for things to be bigger and better and the
statistics for football stadium size and attendance show football facts far exceed baseball facts. For
example, the Dallas Cowboys stadiumis the largest NFL stadium seating a whopping 80,000 plus
20,000 standing. By comparison, the Los Angeles Dodgers, of the MLB, has the biggest
stadium in baseball seating 56,000 ( ESPN ). These stats show the increase in popularity of
football compared to the decrease of popularity of baseball. Research shows the Cowboys have
demand for more seating because of the number of tickets sold per game. The average game
attendance for an NFL game is greater compared to that of an MLB game. In fact, the Cowboys
sell an average of 92,867 tickets per game. On the other hand,

Importance Of Violent Conflict Is Unethical
In some instances, but very few, violent conflict can be considered ethical. Even in these
situations, violent conflict is only considered ethical to an extent. Times when violent conflict
can be considered ethical are: self defense and revenge. Self defense is only ethical to an extent
because at some point it is no longer self defense. Revenge is only ethical when it is absolutely
necessary, and and at some point it can no longer be considered ethical because it just turns to
violence. One instance where violent conflict can be deemed ethical is a situation where your
entire family has been kidnapped and/or killed by someone or a group of people. Another instance
would be if an entire country is being attacked by another country, and all or most of its citizens
are killed, when there was no true declaration of war. Other than these two possibilities, violent
conflict cannot be considered ethical. Violent conflict is considered unethical because of the
inhumane trauma it causes to people. An example of traumatic violence would be the bombings of
Hiroshimaand Nagasaki, Japan through the use of nuclear weapons. Even though these bombings
might have been necessary at the time, does not mean they were an ethical decision.
A clear representation of how unethical it is to use nuclear weapons is described in John Hersey s
book Hiroshima, specifically in the chapter called The Fire . Hersey describes the horrific view that
Mr. Tanimoto had to live through after the bombing.

Precognitive Dream Research Paper
How to Identify a Precognitive Dream
Future prediction, whether through a precognitive dream or a psychic reading, rarely give a
play by play of how an event will exactly unfold; which had made some of my past clients very
angry when I used to work the psychic lines. One female caller wanted to know if she was going
to get a lot of money from her soon to be ex husband. My Angels answer was, You will be taken
care of financially. She became furious when she ask the questions three different ways and my
Angels kept giving her the same answer. At one point she yelled, You re not answering my
question! My response was, This is the way my Angels are answering it.

Frist Dream
I dreamed that I was with my man, C., and his male friend/co worker at an interesting store. In our
waking life, we have gone out on double dates with C s co worker and wife. I was having a good
time and didn t want to leave.
In the second scene we are with a bunch of his co workers in a place that looks like a department
store, I felt uncomfortable around these people because I didn t know them. C. goes off with a
bunch of people from work up the elevator, leaving me with two of his male office mate that I
wasn t crazy about. I said, Where s C. going? One of the men told me not to worry about it, yet I
felt really upset that he wasn t with me and left me stuck here.
The dream had a precognitive vibe to it, yet I was puzzled to its meaning. I got a text from C.
letting me know we had two opportunities to go out this Saturday and if I was interested. The
first was from our friend who wanted to go to antique stores, but his wife had to work. The
second was to see the movie John Wick plus go out to eat with a bunch of people from his job. I
laughed as I thought that s what the dream meant; I replied yes to the

Urban Suburbs In California
California Suburbs California is a state with a lifestyle and identity all its own. One factor
contributing to California s unique singularity is the lay out of its cities and suburban areas. Unlike
many metropolitan areas, which built up, California spread out, creating a commuter culture of
loosely connected communities surrounding larger cities and urban areas. The popularization of
suburban neighborhoods gained prominence and momentum in the 1950s, following World War
II,and the influx of veterans returning home and starting families. That decade s economic growth,
attributed to government spending on the construction of interstate highways and schools, the
distribution of veterans benefits and the increase in military spending, left Californians with high
wages and low unemployment and inflation (The 1950s). These circumstances, combined with the
ingenuity of new developers regarding the layout, construction and affordability of economically
built homes, spear headed the creation of suburban communities in California. With thousands of
new homes being built and purchased and hundreds of people... Show more content on

their promise to keep up with the mortgage payments (Waldie). The location of the suburban
communities was also appealing to Californians. The distance of homes from the congestion of the
cities created a commuter based lifestyle, supported by the railroads and the influx and popularity
of new automobiles (Starr). Many people preferred the separation of the communities from the
hustle and bustle of the overcrowded cities and they enjoyed the remote locations of suburbs and

The Enlightenment-Century Of Philosophy
The Enlightenment was an intellectual and philosophical movement which dominated the world of
ideas in Europe during the 18th century, The Century of Philosophy. The Enlightenment included a
range of ideas centered on reason as the primary source of authority and legitimacy, and came to
advance ideals like liberty, progress, tolerance, fraternity, constitutional government, and separation
of church and state. In France, the central doctrines of were individual liberty and religious
tolerance in opposition to an absolute monarchy and the fixed dogmas of the Roman Catholic
Church. The Enlightenment was marked by an emphasis on the scientific methodand reductionism

His attempt to construct the sciences on a secure metaphysical foundation was not as successful as
his method of doubt applied in philosophic areas leading to a dualistic doctrine of mind and matter.
His skepticism was refined by John Locke s Essay Concerning Human Understanding and David

of the unity of matter in his Tractatus and Ethics .
These laid down two distinct lines of Enlightenment thought: the moderate variety, following
Descartes, Locke and Christian Wolff which sought accommodation between reform and the
traditional systems of power and faith and the radical enlightenment, inspired by the philosophy of
Spinoza, advocating democracy, individual liberty, freedom of expression, and eradication of
religious authority The moderate variety tended to be deistic whereas the radical tendency
separated the basis of morality entirely from theology. Both lines of thought were eventually

Essay For Masters In Social Work
Indian nationalist leader Mahatma Gandhi once stated, The best way to find yourself is to lose
yourself in the service of others . This simple yet powerful quote motivates me to remain
steadfast in the mission of aiding others. I m pursing a Masters in social work because by
working in this field, I can educate, advocate, motivate, understand, and encourage resilience to
clients from every walk of life. It is a profession that will allow me to practice both on a micro and
macro level simultaneously. Lastly, working in social workgives me the capacity to challenge
policies affecting disadvantaged communities.
My interest in this field stems from growing up in a small, rural, poverty stricken town. This
gave me a unique perspective on the world. My hometown had many children with potential, but
because they did not have a positive outlet most of our future workforce leaders did not complete
school. As a professional, I want to create an outreach program designed for high school students,
from low income communities, that pushes and encourages them to stay in school and seek
higher education. Currently there are no programs in the area that offers educational assistance
to these children. Considering the lack of resources available, the need for such a program is
evident. My solution is to use social work to develop these types of services and create policies
that can affect at risk youth in a positive way. I am confident the social work program at Valdosta

Papa Joffre Character Analysis
Papa Joffre, a name that connotes a rather lighter tone, and conveys a sense of compassion and
sympathy in one s conduct: qualities that sharply contrast the unpleasantries of war. His title is a
façade that overlooks his true achievements as French commander in chief during the first world
war. Joseph Joffre changed the outcome of the conflict due to his execution of the war plan,
leadership in the Battle of the Marne, and leadership in other offensives. He was a force to be
reckoned with, a man who dominated the field, and a man who drastically impacted the war. Joseph

His predisposition to heavy offensives also contributed to his downfall, because they were
unsuccessful...against the German lines . In addition, he removed most of the heavy guns from
the fortress of Verdun which led to a disaster at the battle of Verdun (Rickard). His resolve and
resilience, had in exchange been replaced with stubbornness, in his pursuit of his offenses. It
demonstrated that he had disregard for men, heartless, and sometimes even clueless which
would lead one to speculate how one was competent to lead. This style of leading led to bundles
of dead man and overcrowded hospitals (Stokesbury 59). It was callous, and heartless. In spite of
his actions, the little guys took the fall, and lost their posts . But, it was only a matter of time
before it ate away at Joffre s fame. Eventually, his unscrupulous actions led to his resignation as
commander in chief, but he was promoted away from the front line, created a Marshal of France .
Despite the prestigious title, his final years were performing symbolic duties and nothing in
particular of substance. In the end, he is a figure who is still the subject of much controversy to
this day (Rickard).
He was not without flaws. He overstepped his boundaries, and as a result, his pitfall. Joseph Joffre

The Unexamined Life Of Socrates
Sanha Ryoo PHIL 127 Paper 1 02 October 2014 The Unexamined Life Through several dialogues
Plato gives readers accounts of Socrates interactions with other Athenians. While some may think
of him as a teacher of sorts, Socrates is adamant in rejecting any such claim (Plato, Apology 33a
b). He insists that he is not a teacher because he is not transferring any knowledge from himself
to others, but rather assisting those he interacts with in reaching the truth. This assistance is the
reason Socrates walks around Athens, engaging in conversation with anyone that he can
convince to converse with him. An assertion he makes at his trial in Plato s Apology is at the
center of what drives Socrates in his abnormal ways, the unexamined life is not worth living for a
human being (38a). Socrates, through aporia, looks to lead an examined life to perfect his soul
and live as the best person he can be. This paper looks to examine the unexamined life and the
implications rooted in living a life like Socrates . First, it is important to analyze what examination
entails exactly, because one must understand what something is before inspecting the why .
Jumping to the why before knowing exactly what the thing one is examining is would be
irresponsible. How can one make a judgment about something without properly comprehending
what it is? In Plato s dialogues, Socrates questions the person he is in dialogue with to show that
the person does not actually have the knowledge he claims to

Identifying The Title Shift Leaders As Exempt Essay
Classifying the Title Shift Leaders as Exempt Classifying the title, shift leader as exempt is more

Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil is a story of guilt, humility, sin, hypocrisy, love,
compounded emotional stability and trials of life. It is a work of gothic literary art that describes
the complexity of emotions and the psychological give and take that takes place when processing
and dealing with any human emotion. The gothic writing style Hawthorne uses in The Minister s
Black Veilmakes it easy for him to focus on one main emotion: guilt. Hawthorne is no stranger to

Hooper.
The use of a minister as the main character is especially significant throughout this gothic story. In
literary symbolism, a minister is applied as a symbol of light, happiness and peace. Hawthorne
takes this symbol and instead transforms Hooper into a representation of distress and obscurity. The
rumor Our parson has gone mad! (2432), becomes the general consensus of the surrounding
community. In this specific condemnation Hawthorne skillfully uses the word mad in this sentence
to portray various contexts. Firstly, the word mad is used to describe the mental state of the
Minister but it is also applied to depiction of the condition concerning the community s sense of
ordinariness. This coincides with the public s view that the Minister has become deranged because
they assume that he is hiding his identity from the community. Secondly, the connotation of the
word mad is that the community is slowly going mad because of the lack of knowledge of what is
happening with Mr. Hooper. Hawthorne also introduces a personal response from one of the public
that reads: ...I would not be alone with him for the world (2433), which describes the mistrust of
their minister that, in turn, is influencing them to become mad . A large portion of The Minister s
Black Veil that demonstrates this story is gothic is the technique

Colonial Virginia Compare And Contrast
Massachusetts and Virginia, Different Beginnings With the colonization of the New World came
financial, religious, and strategic opportunities. England answered this call in various ways as
British colonies began with certain interests in mind. Massachusetts and Virginia, besides being
started with royal charters, were planted in separate locations, with unique resources, and by
Englishmen with entirely different intentions.
The beginning of two unique early American colonies starts with two very different charters.
Virginia began in 1606 as the Virginia Company; a combination of the London and Plymouth
Companies. The intent was to establish a working colony to extract riches from the New World in
the form of natural resources. The strongly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slaves cost around three times as much to purchase as indentured servants. With a vastly shortened
life span in Virginia and the availability of indentures, slavery made little economic sense. Why
would a plantation owner pay for a lifetime of work he would never receive?
By contrast, Massachusetts Puritans objected to slavery on moral grounds, and strove to protect
their social enclaves and towns from any outsiders. Not only would slaves prove a changing force
in New England, they would disrupt the carefully crafted structure of free labor and the local
church/town system.
Early Virginia and Massachusetts differed greatly in their respective political positions as well.
During the early 1620s, Virginia remained unprofitable in the eyes of stockholders in Britain. In
1624 King James I dissolved the London Company and Virginia became a royal colony. With the
collapse of the monarchy in Britain beginning in 1649, Virginia became a refuge for English
Cavaliers. Virginian governor William Berkeley and the Virginia Assembly even supported Charles

Comparing Glasser s Getting Together And Staying Together
This article tells you what to do in your relationships to replace the destructive habits with more
healthy ones. Dr. William Glasser in his book, Getting Together and Staying Together, writes about
the Caring Relationship Habits of listening, trusting, supporting, encouraging, respecting, accepting
and negotiating differences. These are not as simple as they sound. This month we will look at the
first four and I will follow up in December with the final three.
Listening is the first one because I think it is a great place to start. You may already think you
listen and perhaps you do but the level of listening I am speaking of relates to not just hearing your
partner, but truly trying to understand where he or she is coming from. You are listening for
understanding. You wantto know how it is they see things the way they do. You may not agree with
their perception but you want to try to at least understand it from where they come from, in their
shoes and in their skin.

Ford reasoned that the increased cost outweighed the benefits of a new gas tank design. Based on
this analysis, Ford legally chose not to make the design change, which would have made the Pinto

price be put on saving a human life? It seems unethical to determine that people should be allowed
to die or be seriously injured because it would cost too much to prevent it. The analysis did not take
all the consequences into account; negative publicity Ford received, judgements and settlements
resulting from lawsuits, not to mention some things just cannot be measured in terms of dollars

putting a value on human lives. Kant s ethics proves that the Ford Pinto decision immoral, in that

Women In Dr. Pepper Advertising
Jane Austen once wrote, I hate to hear you talk about all women as if they were fine ladies
instead of rational creatures. None of us want to be in calm waters all our lives (Quotes by...). This
quote was written in her novel, Persuasion, in 1818, 195 years before a Dr. Pepper ad was made.
Back in 1818, womenwere all taught to follow the rules that society put on them. They had to be
classy and proper at all times or else they were not considered feminine. The same idea still goes
on today. We all have to all like the same things and act the same way. It is a shame we have not
progressed much in making women and men be treated the same since 1818. These Dr. Pepper ads
use women to get consumers to buy their products by using techniques that... Show more content on

They wanted to spread words about the product and have everyone at least know what it is. They
both have the constraint of offending people. Women could take the ad from 1979 and say it is
sexist because they are using a woman to try and market a product. It is a very common
occurrence to use women in that way because they are using an image of an ideal woman.
Putting a strong handsome man in this ad instead of a woman would change the entire dynamic.
If that were the case, men would be less inclined to go buy Dr. Pepper because it would make
them feel like they were buying the drink to be like the man on the cover. With the ad from
2013, I think the ad makers knew they were going to offend women, but they probably thought
that they would take it more of a joke. Is Dr. Pepper really appealing to men here, or are they just
having fun and looking for a lot of free media attention? Women being treated less than men is not
a funny joke. I think in today s time, those topics should not be joked about because women are
treated different from men and this is still a pressing issue. We want to move toward gender
equality, and ads like Dr. Pepper are setting us back on getting to that goal. Dr. Pepper got what
they wanted; people are talking about their ad and the product, but maybe not in the way they

America is a Market Economy, which means that the People rules mostly everything and

Summary Of John Updike s A P
John Updike s A P offers numerous viewpoints for critical interpretation. Descriptive metaphors
and the causal sexual tones embraced in the story are just a drop of water in the ocean. Sammy s
male chauvinism can be pinched from the initial outline and thus leading to a gender analysis.
Going deeper in the read not only reveals the critic s biographical perspective but also his
formalism. After a number of readings I have appreciated the perspective that is the bizarre setting

Effects Of European Exploration On The World
Effects Of European Exploration
By the late 1400 s into the 1500 s, European countries began to expand into the rest of the world.
This resurgence of trade interest resulted in a demand for foreign goods and exploration of water
routes. This Age of Exploration united the Americas with Europe, Asia, and Africa. The exchanges
were plentiful and stabilizing for many communities. However, along with the positive influences,
came the negative aspects, which impacted cultures and civilizations around the world. European
exploration changed travel, trade, health, religion, language, architecture, the economy, and
humanity. It is this author s position that the positive influences and contributions have had a
greater impact on growth and development globally than the challenges presented. Historically, the
Age of Exploration shaped the world as we know it today.
Many positive effects for the Age of Exploration can be identified. Historical discoveries and
persuasive revelations shaped every continent. Referring to the Island of Espanola, Columbus
wrote, It will serve as a place to which (colonists) can return and from which they can carry on trade
with the neighboring islands (Document 1). This quote shows that Columbus foresaw the potential
advantages of this exploration. He understood the longevity of the colonization and trade to come.
This historical time of transition is often referred to as the Columbian Exchange because it started
with Christopher Columbus.

Social Disorganization Theory And Crime
Starz Power , Social Disorganization Theory and Crime
Introduction:
In the television show Power , organized crime is the most prevalent form of crime displayed.
Organized crime can be defined as a methodically unlawful activity for profit on a city wide.
interstate and worldwide scale. The act of engaging in criminal activity as a structured assembly
is called racketeering in the United States. The premise of this project is to research social
disorganization theory as it pertains to the television series Power . Power catalogs the life of
James St. Patrick, who is also known as Ghost . Ghost has become a powerful figure in New
York City s biggest drug network. The series follows Ghost as he struggles with living a double
life and his quest for legitimate business ventures. As Ghost gets closer to legitimacy, a string of
violent crimes began to take place within and around his network. My research will incorporate
the first two episodes of the first season. This paper will present an analysis of organized crime
from a sociological standpoint and uncover that social disorganization creates a need for
organized crime i.e drug networks and street gangs which increases the occurrence of violent
crime and other social disparities . I will investigate the relationship between the presence of
organized crime and social disparities n a disorganized society in my analysis of Power .

of infinite density in the past. There was a comment, which suggested that if one, where to make

the galaxies moved apart, new galaxies were formed in between, from matter that was supposed to

was that it allowed one to make definite predictions, which in turn could be tested by observational

Pony Express Research Paper
As a student studying business and communication, The Pony Express is a piece of history in
the United States before 1877 that is important and sometimes overlooked. It was a short lived
service that was created during the Civil War aimed to make communication to the West faster
and easier. This service relied on the use of horses and lightweight riders to bring mail back and
forth across more than 100 stations 24 hours a day. The Pony Express riders used a 2,000 mile
trial that stretched from Missouri to California, switching horses and riders at different stations.
After 19 months of service, they were no longer needed as the development of the telegraph made
it more efficient and effective to send messages over greater distances. Even though this service

Today, communication is taken for granted as almost everything is at the touch of our finger
tips. We are no longer limited to how we can send messages like in people the 1800s. Today we
have, more or less, perfected the technology and capability to communicate with others. Sending
a message to one recipient or a mass of people is now simple, digital, and instantaneous. It is
amazing to think about how we had to rely on a horse rider to travel days just to deliver our mail
when we now have planes, cars/trucks, and digital mail. Not only is the medium and speed in
which we can use to send our messages or products, but also the quantity is amazing. Every
second, an unimaginable number of emails are being sent and received every second. Just the
same amount of packages and letters are being shipped and delivered every day compared to the
small amount that horses can carry along with a rider. As a business, it was an admirable endeavor
to offer the public a service that they needed. Despite going bankrupt, The Pony Express founders
were very entrepreneurial to be

Water Drinking Water Quality Standards
Drinking water, also known as potable water or improved drinking water is safe enough for
drinking and food preparation. Globally, in 2012, 89% of people had access to water suitable for
drinking. Nearly 4 billion had access to tap water while another 2.3 billion had access to wells or
public taps. The amount of drinking waterrequired is variable. For those working in a hot climate,
up to 16 liters a day may be required. Infants are about 70% to 80% water while the elderly are
around 45%.
Typically in developed countries, tap water meets drinking water quality standards, even though
only a small proportion is actually consumed or used in food preparation. Other typical uses
include washing, toilets, and irrigation. Greywater may also be used for toilets or irrigation. Its
use for irrigation however may be associated with risks. The British Dietetic Association
recommends 1.8 litres. However, various reviews of the evidence performed in 2002 and 2008
could not find any solid scientific evidence recommending eight glasses of water per day. In the
United States, the reference daily intake for total water intake is 3.7 litres per day for human
males older than 18, and 2.7 L/day for human females older than 18 which includes drinking water,
water in beverages, and water contained in food. An individual s thirst provides a better guide for
how much water they require rather than a specific, fixed quantity. Water generated from the

World History Volume Two The Easy Way Essay
During the first four weeks of class, we have learned about a copious amount of material both in
and out of the classroom. We discussed the topic of history as a whole, as well as the syllabus and
expectations in the introductory class. In subsequent classes, we discussed topics including
Christopher Columbus s role as either an explorer or an exploiter, the significance of the slave and
spice trade, and the reformation in Europe. Outside of class, we have read an abundant amount of
information out the assigned book World History Volume Two the Easy Way . We have covered
topics that span from the reformation in Europe all the way to the Spanish conquest in South
America and the foundation of the thirteen colonies. We also have examined an article written by
Mark Twain that ties in with the slaverysegment which we covered in class. On the first day of
class, we discussed the topic of history as a whole, and we also went over the typical subject of the
syllabus. We agreed that history is the study and investigation of past events, and there are various
sources that historians use to examine these events. Evidence from the past can include things such
as written documents, oral records, birth and death records, and art. There are also numerous

Authors did a good job adjusting for individual socioeconomic variables, although there is still the
challenge that some of these variables (e.g., income and education) could be mediators and not
confounders. They used validated tools to measure stress, though, it measures daily life stressors
that are less likely to be influenced by neighborhood context. Ascertainment of exposure to drugs
was well done, while smoking and alcohol consumption were self reported during the postpartum
interview and thus prone to recall bias.
As in many similar multi level analyses, this study suffered from the crude measures of
neighborhood exposures by using census tracts indicators (4). Neighborhood characteristics were
retrieved from the 1990 U.S. Census. Thus, they may inaccurately represent neighborhood context
during the relevant time period (1995 1996), as it is possible that these characteristics may have
changed over time. One methodological barrier in neighborhood studies is the correlation between
neighborhood variables (5). To overcome this barrier, they summarized the four indicators (%
black, % poverty, violent crime rate, and % boarded up housing) into one index variable. While this
approach is methodologically correct, it became difficult to understand which aspects of
neighborhood context affected the outcome, which limited the relevance of study findings to real life

What was the Egyptian Revolution of 1919 and why was it a justifiable act of civil disobedience?
The Egyptian rebellion was a very political and economic defiance of the law. It encouraged many
individuals, such as Mahatma Gandhi, to protest against what they believe is harmful and
unconstitutional to the country. The Egyptian Revolution of 1919 can be justified as an act of civil
disobediencebecause of Britain s protectorate and martial law for Egyptand Sudan, for causing false

Lord Alfred Milner of Britain was sent to Egypt in December of 1919, he later left March of
1920 and advised that Britain abolish the protectorate and grant Egypt complete independence.
He saw the hostile stance of the Egyptian people as uncontrollable and believed Britain would
not be able to continue to pursue its interests, given such public opinion. When Britain decided
to send the colonial administrator, Egyptians responded to the Milner Mission to get rid of Lord
Milner and to confound the judicial system. Thousands of nationalists met at Alexandria s
mosque Abu l Abbas al Mursi; ministers, lawyers, counsels, and students proposed strategies
against the British rule Egypt. According to the report by Under Secretary of the Foreign Office
Cecil Harmsworth to the House of Commons, 800 natives were killed and 1,600 women
wounded during the uprising. It states that casualties for European and other civilians were 31
killed and 35 wounded, while 29 British soldiers were killed and 114 wounded. So there were
209 European casualties to 2,400 Egyptian. The Under Secretary of the Foreign Office provided a
clear understanding of how many natives of Egypt died for their independence; clearly there were
very few British casualties which shows how much the Egyptians were willing to give up, to have

What Is The Tone Of 12 Angry Men
12 Angry Men Post Film Reflection Claim: The most powerful message that Reginald Rose
demonstrates in his play 12 Angry Men would be how tone matters to convey and nudge others
towards an opinion. Established Evidence: By the use of tone, it emphasizes of whom the
speaker is speaking to, engages important insights and show the true intentions of a person.
Evidence: For instance, Reginald Rose demonstrates the tone of juror 8 as this boy s been
kicked around all his life who had a pretty terrible sixteen years, (pg 13) who is this ideal,

Bayview University Essay
Introduction
Due to the outbreak of the financial crisis in 2008, a large number of Wall Street executives,
financial managers and other corporate officers were accused of their unethical behavior. At the
same time, some people pointed that cheating had become more prevalent among business students.
An article reported that 56% of business students admitted that they had cheated when they were
studying in school, but only 47% of nonbusiness students admitted to cheating when they were
students. The same type of debate occurred in the Bayview University as well, so the dean
decided to run a test to see what the results would look like. In this case, 90 students were chosen
to answer the quiz which was used to obtain results regarding three ... Show more content on

In my opinion, I suggest the dean take some necessary measures to prevent cheating, such as
infusing academic integrity into the fabric of the university, developing student character and
integrity, and reducing temptations and opportunities for cheating.

Steven Truscott s Wrongful Conviction
Introduction
14 year old Steven Truscott gave his classmate Lynne Harper a ride on his bicycle on June 9,
1959. Truscott had dropped her off before they parted ways. Lynne was reported missing later that
night, and two days later, her body was found on a nearby farm. She was sexually assaulted and
strangled to death. The community was horrified by what happened to this young girl and everyone
was determined to find the killer. Immediately, investigators became fixated on Truscott as the
prime suspect since he was the last person to see Lynne. They didn t consider any other suspects,
even though there was no physical evidence linking him to the murder. He was arrested 24 hours
later, and stood trial as an adult. (Steven Truscott| ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This case is of interest to both myself and society because Truscott was wrongly convicted based
on the limited scientific knowledge available in 1959, and the police s tunnel vision. They were so
adamant on finding the killer that they became fixated on Truscott as the only suspect, and did t
bother widening their search. Because of this, evidence was tampered to frame Truscott. What
happened to Truscott was a miscarriage of justice, which affects society s confidence in the legal
system, and it undermines the criminal justice system s legitimacy.
This case is also of interest because the actual perpetrator was not convicted, because the
scientific techniques that were used in 1959 were so limited. By looking at this, we can clearly
see how far forensic science has come in the past 50 years, and how different the outcome of the
case would have been had this had taken place in the present. We can revisit this old murder case
and identify different scientific tools that we could use today to solve the crime. We can also see
how applying the knowledge we now know about the human body and forensic science can help to
exonerate the innocent, like it did with Truscott, and even help to find the real culprit.
Scientific Methods Used and Evaluation of those Methods
In the 1950s and 1960s, there were many limitations on the science and methodology used in
investigations, because there was a lack of knowledge. For example, forensic

1970s Fashion Research Paper
1970s Fashion
The 1970s was an eventful decade. Many people fought for equality and peace. 1970s fashion
wasn t just clothing, it was showing their voice through the cultural and political times. The many
styles and looks of them showed people s personality and who they are too. The 70s was diverse in
style, makeup, hair, and changed over the years. In the 1970s fashion was multifarious. The main
styles were hippie, bohemian, sporty chic, disco, and a little bit of punk. Hippie style originated
in the 60s, but the style really blossomed in the 70s. Hippies loved the colorful, simple,
expressive designs (Brewer). Shoes wise hippies mostly liked gladiator sandals and ankle boots
(Karapetyan). Another popular style of the 70s was bohemian. The boho look was relaxed and
carefree. Almost everything that was bohemian was flowy and light weight with rich prints and
patterns. Unlike boho, disco was flamboyant and glitzy. Disco ... Show more content on

was a material that made clothing and accessories soft and delicate looking throughout this
decade. Denim was also used for a little bit of everything. Embroidery and other details were
added to denim to put some personality into it. Pantsuits were significant in the 1970s. Before

Egg Donation Failure
In order to identify the problem of egg donation, one must take into account the harm that is
attached to said problem. Without payment regulations, egg donation agencies have the ability to
compete with one another to receive more donations. This lack of order is detrimental to the
health of women because of the financial encouragement to become repeat donors. To decrease
the number of repeat donors, all egg donation agencies should strictly implement the $10,000
maximum payment set forth by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). By
decreasing the payment maximum across the board for all egg donation agencies, women are
less inclined to repeat the process. Monetary benefit may not be the only motivation for women
to donate, however, it is still an incentive that plays a major role in women s decision making. As
an example, Sierra Poulson, a three time donor, revealed that the third time she donated was only
for money (Lewin, 2015). Poulson displays how the market of egg donation works and how
money affects the tendency that women have to continue donating. As a result of decreased
numbers of repeat donors, women are less susceptible to the health risks that come along with the
process. The more serious risk of egg donation is ovarian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result, agencies would no longer be in competition with one another to receive more donors by
advertising a better price of compensation. In addition, the lowered financial reward will divide the
donor population between women with charitable intentions and women with monetary intentions,
thus minimizing the numbers of repeat donors that increase their health risks with each donation.
The egg donation industry is flawed in more ways than one, but resolving the pricing issue reduces
the likelihood of women experiencing harmful outcomes in their

Analysis of the Unforgettable Movie No Man s Land Essay
No Man s Land is a heartbreaking anti war movie which is played in the background of the
Bosnian war. The movie is a fable; it was also the first writing by its writer Tanovic. It was co
produced by many companies belonging to different countries like Bosnia Herzegovina, UK and
others. Two injured soldiers, a Bosnian and other the Bosnian Serb, are entrapped with their lines
in the attempt for survival. They face each other in the trench where they allow time to pass for
darkness to prevail. They argue with each other as well and even identify some common ground.
Complicating the situation is another injured Bosnian soldier, Savagovic, who regains his
consciousness. Bosnian Serbs have planted a land mine under him so that in case of any... Show

In addition to Behind Enemy Lines, it is another film of Bosnian war era. Nevertheless, instead of
being a lustrous and technically refined and amazing film, it presents a Bosnian version on the
clash, over spilling with meaninglessness, sarcasm and unyielding tragedy. In fact the director of
No Man s Land, Tanovic started his filmmaking profession by making war footage for the Bosnian
army and examined events as first hand observer which he mercilessly criticizes in the movie. The
film starts in 1993, somewhere close to the Bosnian town of Tuzla, where a small body of relief
soldiers from the Bosnian army are seen moving in the open countryside at night. As the thick fog
covers the area, they determine to take a pause and have camp the night. Unluckily as the morning
sun takes shape and fog subsides, it is known that they are lingering very close to the Serbian
frontlines and consequently they are fired upon. Along with the expected animosity between them,
tension is escalated with Cera in the middle of the landmine which compels him to remain inactive
until assistance reaches. Unfortunately, the engagement of the international community and media
makes the situation far more uncertain for those caught in the dilemma. The film basically presents
a small version of the Bosnian clash in the pathetic situation of its three entangled soldiers and the
abortive interference of its imminent international saviors. Tanovic underlines

The Cold War Was Not A Normal Conflict
The Cold War was not a normal conflict. The US and the USSR never fought. However, they
often supported different warring sides. Nevertheless, we can say that the Cold War is a political,
military and media conflict, which has a large effect over the lives of thousands of innocent
civilians. The Cold War is a battle between totalitarianism and democracy, battle for a new world
turn between two opposing systems. This essay will look at three different theories that explain
why the Cold Warcame to an end. First will be discussed the Revisionist and Gorbachev leadership

And this thesis can be supported even in 1976 when the Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev states that
We Communists have to string along with the capitalists for a while. We need their agriculture and

for ending the Cold War, or in other peacefully ending the Cold War with foreign relationships.
When Gorbachev came into power, unlike other leaders before him, he proclaimed a new way of
thinking based on glasnost (openness) and perestroika (restricting). This meant greater political
freedoms and less Soviet interception in the press and society as a whole. It also meant changes in
the economy such as allowing for a greater market and allowing greater foreign interactions .
Under Gorbachev the Soviets signed the INF treaty, SALT, and declared the goal to eliminate all
nuclear weapons by 2000. Gorbachev withdrew it forces from Afghanistan, and did not intervene in
any East European countries. Gorbachev pushed to end of the Cold War by not acting in any

The Consequences of Rewarding Good Grades with Money
Only 19% of 654 Canadian parents consider the age of 5 to be too young to be given money (Kids
Money, 2014). This is a huge problem in today s society. Kids are easily driven by money and can
become spoiled as well as overprivelaged. It would benefit both the child and parent(s) if they do
not receive money for good grades. Due to the lack of knowledge, kids are unable to spend
money wisely. Their strive for money becomes their main goal and do not realize the importance
of their grades. This leads to rushed work also, paying your childis a waste of the money earned by
the parents and leads to consequences for their future.
First of all, when kids get money for good grades, they are unable to spend it effectively. A child
are more likely to spend money on items such as games, candy or objects of their interest instead
of items that could be more beneficial towards themselves. They don t know how to handle
responsibility and have not been taught how to utilize their money. Economy does not lie in
sparing money, but, in spending it wisely (Huxley, 2014). Children don t understand the value of
money and how hard their parents work to receive enough to provide for them. With this hard
earned money, their parents fill their necessities while the kids fulfill their desires. A penny saved
is a penny earned (Franklin, 2014).
Because kids are unable to use their money effectively, the money of their parents gets taken
advantage of and gets wasted. The money that is given to

ABSTRACT
Nowadays, renewable energy resources play an important role in replacing conventional fossil fuel
energy resources. Photovoltaic energy is one of the very promising renewable energy resources
which grew rapidly in the past few years. Photovoltaics has one major problem and which is that
with the variation of the operating conditions of the array, the voltage at which maximum power
can be obtained from it also changes. In the thesis, a PV model is used to simulate actual PV arrays
behavior, and then a Maximum Power Point tracking method and wind energy system using Feed
Forward Neural networks is proposed in order to control the power. Further more, the proposed feed
forward neural network technique using hybrid system is compared with the ANFIS(adaptive neuro
fuzzy interference system). Simulation results shows that the proposed feed forward neural
network maximum power point tracking method gives faster response than the ANFIS

Annotated Bibliography On Menelaus
Annotated Bibliography Menelaus was a king of Sparta in ancient Greek mythology and was
married to Helen. His immediate family members were his parents Atreus and Aerope, and his
brother Agamemnon who was ruler of the city of Mycenae. Menaleus was one of the main
characters in the Trojan War. When Menelaus and Agamemnon were children, their father, Atreus
battled with his brother, their Uncle, Thyestes. Atrius and Thyestes could not agree about who
would be the king of the city of Mycenae. In the end, Thyestes materialized victorious. Thyestes
son, Aegisthus, helped him by murdering Atreus. The murder of their father had forced Menelaus
and Agamemnon to seek refuge, by fleeing the city, to the courts of neighboring regions. Some time

Later, during the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, Eris the goddess of strife, was angry for not

asked the Prince, Paris of Troy, to be the judge. The three goddesses offered him glorious gifts,
but in the end Paris of Troy gave the apple to Aphrodite. Helen had promised the Prince the most
beautiful woman in the world. Aphrodite helped him kidnap Helen. Menelaus was enraged by
this and conjured the oath that had been taken by all the suitors of Helen. Helped by his brother
Agamemnon, the two set a course for Troy. The departure of Menaleus and his brother set off a
chain of events, including commissioning the help of Odysseus, which led to the fall of Troy. At
the end of the war, Menelaus initially wanted to kill Helen as a result of her leaving him for Paris
of Troy. He changed his mind though when he saw her blubbering, in melancholy, and shedding
her robes uncovering her beautiful body for him to gaze upon. Once back in Sparta, the life of the

The Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy
Two different psychotherapies approaches were implemented in the Gloria videos each video
highlighted the respective approach of each psychotherapist. Albert Ellis who established the
Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and Fritz Perls who developed the Gestalt approach.
Each therapy section in the video was about 30 minutes where each psychotherapist got the
opportunity to explain his theory, interview Gloria and then discuses and explain the his founding.
The main different between these two different approaches can be explained by the effect of the
interaction between the therapist and Gloria. The Gestalt approach focus on self awareness and the
present rather than the Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy(REBT), which focus on the cognitive,
emotional and behavioral conflicts.
When it comes to the theoretical view of human nature presented in the Gestalt approach the
problem starts when someone tries to be who he or she are not. According to clinical
psychology book writing by Trull, T. J., Prinstein, M. J. (2013). Fritz Perls believes people are
able to confront their problems if they become fully aware of what is happening within oneself
and outside of oneself. When an individual does not show whom or how they really feeling in
the outside it can make it difficult for a change. It is important for the patients to be aware of
what and who they are instead of trying to become what they are not. In the Gloria set of videos

  • 2. Research Paper On Concorat Just at the time when the Concordat was in its most flourishing condition, a young man belonging to a wealthy and highly respected middle class family went to the office of the head of the police at P , and begged for his help and advice, which was immediately promised him. My father threatens to disinherit me, the young man then began, although I have never offended against the laws of the State, of morality or of his paternal authority, merely because I do not share his blind reverence for the Catholic Church and her Ministers. On that account he looks upon me, not merely as Latitudinarian, but as a perfect Atheist, and a faithful old manservant of ours, who is much attached to me, and who accidentally saw my father s will, told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now I do not believe in ghosts. 2 Neither do I, the police director replied; but I cannot well do anything on this dangerous ground if I had nothing but superstitions to go upon. You know how the Church rules all our affairs since the Concordat with Rome, and if I investigate this matter, and obtain no results, I am risking my post. It would be very different if you could adduce any proofs for your suspicions. I do not deny that I should like to see the clerical party, which will, I fear, be the ruin of Austria, receive a staggering blow; try, therefore, to get to the bottom of this business, and then we will talk it over again. About a month passed without the young Latitudinarian being heard of; but then he suddenly came one evening, evidently in a great state of excitement, and told him that he was in a position to expose the priestly deceit which he had mentioned, if the authorities would assist him. The police director asked for further ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Challenges of Development in Sumer and Egypt Essay An analysis of the two civilizations, Sumer and Egypt reveals one challenge facing human social development: geography and environmental features tend to shape the patterns of civilizations. Although the civilization of Sumer was prosperous and powerful, its geographical features ultimately weakened Sumer, exposing its vulnerability to invasion by neighboring civilizations. Egypt was similar to Mesopotamian civilizations in many ways, but Egypt s distinct differences led to a distinguished social systems: government, economic, and religion that contributed to the seemingly endless prosperity of the Egyptians. The Sumerians eventually fell to those civilizations that prevailed with more favoring topographic assets. Sumer was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Military was a strong aspect since Sumer had no known natural barriers. The economy used crops as a form of money, as well as trade being important since Sumer had little natural resources. To fully utilize natural resources, the Sumerians created many inventions that lead to evolutionary advancements with technology. Bronze weapons were replaced with Iron, the invention of the plow and eventual domestication of animals for agricultural purposes, and the sailboat, which was used as a mode of transportation for the trade of goods among neighboring civilizations. Among the most important inventions was the use of simple clay, the foundation of an organized communication system among the Sumerians made up of symbols, known as cuneiform. The output of knowledge by the Sumerians, despite harsh geographical circumstances, gave way as an influential role for growth and development in other civilizations such as Egypt with the invention of hieroglyphics, along the way. Similar to Sumer, Egypt was referred to as a river valley civilization. Egypt was divided into two geographical parts, Upper and Lower Egypt. Lower Egypt was located at the Delta of the Nile River. This was the location of Egypt s major cities. Upper Egypt contained small populations for rural farmland located more upstream. Natural Resources include stone, metals, timber, and mud. • 4. The Impact Of Age On Participants Perceptions Of The... Due to the global proliferation of social media, Facebook and other social networking sites (SNS), researchers have taken an interest in studying the nature of how people utilise SNS especially with regard to age disparities. However, there is a lack of qualitative research that investigates participants values and perceptions of SNS (Pfeil, Arjan and Zaphiris 2009). The purpose of this research is to explore this question by investigating the influence of age on participants perceptions of the SNS, Facebook. Facebook was selected for this study due its popularity, as identified by Tong et al. (2008) as having a membership population of approximately eighteen million. The following literature review assisted us to narrow our focus for our own research objective. The three main points discussed here are, differences in the utilisation of SNS and perceived well being outcomes achieved through the use of Facebook between older and younger users of the site; factors that influence levels of technology usage such as, well being, socio economic status, psychosocial circumstances and age; and differences between age groups in perceptions of SNS and levels of social capital gained from SNS. Hayes, van Stolk Cooke and Muench (2015) suggest that age is a significant factor in exploring differences in how Facebook is used. This study looked at how participants utilise Facebook and participants perceived well being outcomes. Data were collected via an anonymous survey that asked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill s Song I Used To Love Him The 9th track on the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill , I Used to Love Him starts with a monotonous slow I used to love him but now I don t her regret and slowly healing pain apparent. The guitar riff at the beginning sounds like a heartbeat close to dying although this beat continues throughout the song, it picks up pace (in a similar fashion to Hill s now fixed heart). The song acts as a break up venting session between Mary J. Blige and Hill and describes the after effects of her affair with Jean Wyclef (her former Fugees bandmate). The song is kind of vengeful, chronicling how good it feels to let go. Hill is crooning to her audience while seeking forgiveness for what are sins in her eyes (letting a guy take control of her life instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Baseball As A National Pastime Mary McGrory, an American journalist, writes, Baseball is what we were, and football is what we have become ( Brainy Quotes ). Baseball is out and football is in. Only 27% of kids from ages 9 13 play baseball in the world today. There is no longer Take me out to the ball game, but let me watch the game on my TV. Baseballas a national pastime has experienced a decline in popularity because of the increase of popularity of football, length of the season and cost of a game, and length of plays and the game itself. Some fans believe that the increase of popularity of sports other than baseball, such as football, can be attributed to the average size of football stadiums and the average game attendance. Americans in general like for things to be bigger and better and the statistics for football stadium size and attendance show football facts far exceed baseball facts. For example, the Dallas Cowboys stadiumis the largest NFL stadium seating a whopping 80,000 plus 20,000 standing. By comparison, the Los Angeles Dodgers, of the MLB, has the biggest stadium in baseball seating 56,000 ( ESPN ). These stats show the increase in popularity of football compared to the decrease of popularity of baseball. Research shows the Cowboys have demand for more seating because of the number of tickets sold per game. The average game attendance for an NFL game is greater compared to that of an MLB game. In fact, the Cowboys sell an average of 92,867 tickets per game. On the other hand, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Importance Of Violent Conflict Is Unethical In some instances, but very few, violent conflict can be considered ethical. Even in these situations, violent conflict is only considered ethical to an extent. Times when violent conflict can be considered ethical are: self defense and revenge. Self defense is only ethical to an extent because at some point it is no longer self defense. Revenge is only ethical when it is absolutely necessary, and and at some point it can no longer be considered ethical because it just turns to violence. One instance where violent conflict can be deemed ethical is a situation where your entire family has been kidnapped and/or killed by someone or a group of people. Another instance would be if an entire country is being attacked by another country, and all or most of its citizens are killed, when there was no true declaration of war. Other than these two possibilities, violent conflict cannot be considered ethical. Violent conflict is considered unethical because of the inhumane trauma it causes to people. An example of traumatic violence would be the bombings of Hiroshimaand Nagasaki, Japan through the use of nuclear weapons. Even though these bombings might have been necessary at the time, does not mean they were an ethical decision. A clear representation of how unethical it is to use nuclear weapons is described in John Hersey s book Hiroshima, specifically in the chapter called The Fire . Hersey describes the horrific view that Mr. Tanimoto had to live through after the bombing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Urban Suburbs In California California Suburbs California is a state with a lifestyle and identity all its own. One factor contributing to California s unique singularity is the lay out of its cities and suburban areas. Unlike many metropolitan areas, which built up, California spread out, creating a commuter culture of loosely connected communities surrounding larger cities and urban areas. The popularization of suburban neighborhoods gained prominence and momentum in the 1950s, following World War II,and the influx of veterans returning home and starting families. That decade s economic growth, attributed to government spending on the construction of interstate highways and schools, the distribution of veterans benefits and the increase in military spending, left Californians with high wages and low unemployment and inflation (The 1950s). These circumstances, combined with the ingenuity of new developers regarding the layout, construction and affordability of economically built homes, spear headed the creation of suburban communities in California. With thousands of new homes being built and purchased and hundreds of people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In less than 10 months, over 7,400 houses were sold (Waldie). The location of the suburban communities was also appealing to Californians. The distance of homes from the congestion of the cities created a commuter based lifestyle, supported by the railroads and the influx and popularity of new automobiles (Starr). The Enlightenment-Century Of Philosophy The Enlightenment was an intellectual and philosophical movement which dominated the world of ideas in Europe during the 18th century, The Century of Philosophy. The Enlightenment included a range of ideas centered on reason as the primary source of authority and legitimacy, and came to advance ideals like liberty, progress, tolerance, fraternity, constitutional government, and separation of church and state. In France, the central doctrines of were individual liberty and religious tolerance in opposition to an absolute monarchy and the fixed dogmas of the Roman Catholic Church. His attempt to construct the sciences on a secure metaphysical foundation was not as successful as his method of doubt applied in philosophic areas leading to a dualistic doctrine of mind and matter. His skepticism was refined by John Locke s Essay Concerning Human Understanding and David Hume s writings in the 1740s. His dualism was challenged by Spinoza s uncompromising assertion of the unity of matter in his Tractatus and Ethics . These laid down two distinct lines of Enlightenment thought: the moderate variety, following Descartes, Locke and Christian Wolff which sought accommodation between reform and the traditional systems of power and faith and the radical enlightenment, inspired by the philosophy of Spinoza, advocating democracy, individual liberty, freedom of expression, and eradication of religious authority The moderate variety tended to be deistic whereas the radical tendency separated the basis of morality entirely from theology. • 11. Essay For Masters In Social Work Indian nationalist leader Mahatma Gandhi once stated, The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others . This simple yet powerful quote motivates me to remain steadfast in the mission of aiding others. I m pursing a Masters in social work because by working in this field, I can educate, advocate, motivate, understand, and encourage resilience to clients from every walk of life. It is a profession that will allow me to practice both on a micro and macro level simultaneously. Lastly, working in social workgives me the capacity to challenge policies affecting disadvantaged communities. My interest in this field stems from growing up in a small, rural, poverty stricken town. This gave me a unique perspective on the world. My hometown had many children with potential, but because they did not have a positive outlet most of our future workforce leaders did not complete school. As a professional, I want to create an outreach program designed for high school students, from low income communities, that pushes and encourages them to stay in school and seek higher education. Currently there are no programs in the area that offers educational assistance to these children. Considering the lack of resources available, the need for such a program is evident. My solution is to use social work to develop these types of services and create policies that can affect at risk youth in a positive way. • 12. Papa Joffre Character Analysis Papa Joffre, a name that connotes a rather lighter tone, and conveys a sense of compassion and sympathy in one s conduct: qualities that sharply contrast the unpleasantries of war. His title is a faГ§ade that overlooks his true achievements as French commander in chief during the first world war. Joseph Joffre changed the outcome of the conflict due to his execution of the war plan, leadership in the Battle of the Marne, and leadership in other offensives. He was a force to be reckoned with, a man who dominated the field, and a man who drastically impacted the war. Joseph Joffreconsistently served with distinction, which led to his rise to power. In addition, he removed most of the heavy guns from the fortress of Verdun which led to a disaster at the battle of Verdun (Rickard). His resolve and resilience, had in exchange been replaced with stubbornness, in his pursuit of his offenses. It demonstrated that he had disregard for men, heartless, and sometimes even clueless which would lead one to speculate how one was competent to lead. This style of leading led to bundles of dead man and overcrowded hospitals (Stokesbury 59). It was callous, and heartless. In spite of his actions, the little guys took the fall, and lost their posts . But, it was only a matter of time before it ate away at Joffre s fame. Eventually, his unscrupulous actions led to his resignation as commander in chief, but he was promoted away from the front line, created a Marshal of France . Despite the prestigious title, his final years were performing symbolic duties and nothing in particular of substance. In the end, he is a figure who is still the subject of much controversy to this day (Rickard). He was not without flaws. He overstepped his boundaries, and as a result, his pitfall. However, soon Britain had to face with a new challenge: people from colonies revolted against Britain. At the end of the 18th century, the territory of American colonies was inhabited by almost 3 million people, mostly immigrants from Britain (Kammen 8). Small settlements were expanding. • 14. The Unexamined Life Of Socrates Sanha Ryoo PHIL 127 Paper 1 02 October 2014 The Unexamined Life Through several dialogues Plato gives readers accounts of Socrates interactions with other Athenians. While some may think of him as a teacher of sorts, Socrates is adamant in rejecting any such claim (Plato, Apology 33a b). He insists that he is not a teacher because he is not transferring any knowledge from himself to others, but rather assisting those he interacts with in reaching the truth. This assistance is the reason Socrates walks around Athens, engaging in conversation with anyone that he can convince to converse with him. An assertion he makes at his trial in Plato s Apology is at the center of what drives Socrates in his abnormal ways, the unexamined life is not worth living for a human being (38a). Socrates, through aporia, looks to lead an examined life to perfect his soul and live as the best person he can be. This paper looks to examine the unexamined life and the implications rooted in living a life like Socrates . First, it is important to analyze what examination entails exactly, because one must understand what something is before inspecting the why . Jumping to the why before knowing exactly what the thing one is examining is would be irresponsible. How can one make a judgment about something without properly comprehending what it is? In Plato s dialogues, Socrates questions the person he is in dialogue with to show that the person does not actually have the knowledge he claims to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil is a story of guilt, humility, sin, hypocrisy, love, compounded emotional stability and trials of life. It is a work of gothic literary art that describes the complexity of emotions and the psychological give and take that takes place when processing and dealing with any human emotion. The gothic writing style Hawthorne uses in The Minister s Black Veilmakes it easy for him to focus on one main emotion: guilt. Hawthorne is no stranger to guilt, a huge reason why he discusses its nature so much. The Hawthorne families, formally known as Hathorne, were involved in the Salem Witch Trials and have carried the shameand guilt of their families decisions through generations. In literary symbolism, a minister is applied as a symbol of light, happiness and peace. Hawthorne takes this symbol and instead transforms Hooper into a representation of distress and obscurity. The rumor Our parson has gone mad! (2432), becomes the general consensus of the surrounding community. In this specific condemnation Hawthorne skillfully uses the word mad in this sentence to portray various contexts. Firstly, the word mad is used to describe the mental state of the Minister but it is also applied to depiction of the condition concerning the community s sense of ordinariness. This coincides with the public s view that the Minister has become deranged because they assume that he is hiding his identity from the community. Secondly, the connotation of the word mad is that the community is slowly going mad because of the lack of knowledge of what is happening with Mr. Hooper. Hawthorne also introduces a personal response from one of the public that reads: ...I would not be alone with him for the world (2433), which describes the mistrust of their minister that, in turn, is influencing them to become mad . In subsequent classes, we discussed topics including Christopher Columbus s role as either an explorer or an exploiter, the significance of the slave and spice trade, and the reformation in Europe. Outside of class, we have read an abundant amount of information out the assigned book World History Volume Two the Easy Way . We have covered topics that span from the reformation in Europe all the way to the Spanish conquest in South America and the foundation of the thirteen colonies. We also have examined an article written by Mark Twain that ties in with the slaverysegment which we covered in class. On the first day of class, we discussed the topic of history as a whole, and we also went over the typical subject of the syllabus. We agreed that history is the study and investigation of past events, and there are various sources that historians use to examine these events. Evidence from the past can include things such as written documents, oral records, birth and death records, and art. There are also numerous subsections of history that one can study. These specialized sections of history include, but are certainly not limited to concentrations in religious history, political history, economic history and even studies involving ... The Effect Of Neighborhood Environment On Birth Outcomes This article sought to assess the effect of neighborhood environment on birthweight and the potential mediation by psychosocial, behavioral, and biological factors. Authors provided the reasoning for their study by indicating that the effect of neighborhood on birth outcomes has been well documented in the literature, still the mechanism by which neighborhood context affects these outcomes was not clear. Their review of the literature was very comprehensive in that it covered many aspects related to the complex relationships between neighborhood context and birth outcomes. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Authors did a good job adjusting for individual socioeconomic variables, although there is still the challenge that some of these variables (e.g., income and education) could be mediators and not confounders. They used validated tools to measure stress, though, it measures daily life stressors that are less likely to be influenced by neighborhood context. Ascertainment of exposure to drugs was well done, while smoking and alcohol consumption were self reported during the postpartum interview and thus prone to recall bias. As in many similar multi level analyses, this study suffered from the crude measures of neighborhood exposures by using census tracts indicators (4). Neighborhood characteristics were retrieved from the 1990 U.S. Census. Thus, they may inaccurately represent neighborhood context during the relevant time period (1995 1996), as it is possible that these characteristics may have changed over time. One methodological barrier in neighborhood studies is the correlation between neighborhood variables (5). To overcome this barrier, they summarized the four indicators (% black, % poverty, violent crime rate, and % boarded up housing) into one index variable. While this approach is methodologically correct, it became difficult to understand which aspects of neighborhood context affected the outcome, which limited the relevance of study findings to real life ... What happened to Truscott was a miscarriage of justice, which affects society s confidence in the legal system, and it undermines the criminal justice system s legitimacy. Without payment regulations, egg donation agencies have the ability to compete with one another to receive more donations. This lack of order is detrimental to the health of women because of the financial encouragement to become repeat donors. To decrease the number of repeat donors, all egg donation agencies should strictly implement the $10,000 maximum payment set forth by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). By decreasing the payment maximum across the board for all egg donation agencies, women are less inclined to repeat the process. Monetary benefit may not be the only motivation for women to donate, however, it is still an incentive that plays a major role in women s decision making. As an example, Sierra Poulson, a three time donor, revealed that the third time she donated was only for money (Lewin, 2015). In the thesis, a PV model is used to simulate actual PV arrays behavior, and then a Maximum Power Point tracking method and wind energy system using Feed Forward Neural networks is proposed in order to control the power. Further more, the proposed feed forward neural network technique using hybrid system is compared with the ANFIS(adaptive neuro fuzzy interference system). Simulation results shows that the proposed feed forward neural network maximum power point tracking method gives faster response than the ANFIS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She threw a golden apple with the words, to the fairest one inscribed on it amidst the guests. Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena had a squabble over who should get the apple. They asked the Prince, Paris of Troy, to be the judge. The three goddesses offered him glorious gifts, but in the end Paris of Troy gave the apple to Aphrodite. Helen had promised the Prince the most beautiful woman in the world. Aphrodite helped him kidnap Helen. Menelaus was enraged by this and conjured the oath that had been taken by all the suitors of Helen. Helped by his brother Agamemnon, the two set a course for Troy. The departure of Menaleus and his brother set off a chain of events, including commissioning the help of Odysseus, which led to the fall of Troy. At the end of the war, Menelaus initially wanted to kill Helen as a result of her leaving him for Paris of Troy. Once back in Sparta, the life of the couple was strained by the events of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy Two different psychotherapies approaches were implemented in the Gloria videos each video highlighted the respective approach of each psychotherapist. Albert Ellis who established the Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and Fritz Perls who developed the Gestalt approach. Each therapy section in the video was about 30 minutes where each psychotherapist got the opportunity to explain his theory, interview Gloria and then discuses and explain the his founding. The main different between these two different approaches can be explained by the effect of the interaction between the therapist and Gloria. The Gestalt approach focus on self awareness and the present rather than the Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy(REBT), which focus on the cognitive, emotional and behavioral conflicts. When it comes to the theoretical view of human nature presented in the Gestalt approach the problem starts when someone tries to be who he or she are not. According to clinical psychology book writing by Trull, T. J., Prinstein, M. J. (2013). Fritz Perls believes people are able to confront their problems if they become fully aware of what is happening within oneself and outside of oneself. When an individual does not show whom or how they really feeling in the outside it can make it difficult for a change. It is important for the patients to be aware of what and who they are instead of trying to become what they are not. In the Gloria set of videos by Rogers, C. R., Perls, F. S., Ellis, ...
