World Rewarding Movement Paper
Many people feel that when it comes to worshiping and praising God, their denomination tends to do
it a little better than others. For thousands of years there has always been conflict between religions
about whose religion is superior. Different religions may dramatically contrast on how they function
and practice their beliefs. Religious views and beliefs have changed immensely over the years. With
so many different religions in the U.S., there is a variety of different views and beliefs. While some
people believe and worship only one god, known as monotheists, there also those who believe in
multiple gods, known as polytheists. Many people understand that there are a variety of religions, but

We Should Wear Pants
A pant refers to any cloth that is worn under/inside an individual s outer clothes. Elizabeth Smith
Miller was the first woman to discover an inner ware in 1851. She sought to come with a reformed
system of women s dressing code.Innerwares are of different categories and are meant to serve diverse
purposes. For instance some men widely use shorts to serve as their undergarments. Other related
undergarments that serve the same purpose as the pants include the t shirts, vests and others. There are
some contentions on whether the women specifically should wear pants. Christians argue that women

The zip of the trouser may accidentally inflict injuries to the penis when closing it.However, since the
pants serve the purpose of holding tight the private organs; it is difficult for the zip to inflict injuries to
them. Specific types of Pants are used by different professions depending on the nature of the work
that these people are doing. Policemen and horse riding wear long pants. Motorbike riders also use the
long pants. The pants protect them in several ways. For example, the motorcycle rider is normally
protected from being burnt by the hot parts.furthermore; the individual is protected from getting
bruised in case of an accident. Pants also provide an extra covering to the skin. This has the purpose of
preventing an individual from being damaged by tools in the industry or from other accidents.
Exposure to chemical substance in the environment is dangerous. Materials such as nails are also
dangerous. Individual do wear pants to prevent the substances from harming them in case of an
occurrence of an accident as they are working on the environment such as cleaning (Rushton Susie,

cancer as a result of the Ultraviolet radiation. Long pants are normally worn to prevent this. Pants

Improved Status for Women
CAN CITIES BE SEEN AS ENIGINES OF IMPROVED STATUS AND LIVELIHOODS FOR
WOMEN?
INTRODUCTION
In the past women were seen as nothing more than child bearers and housekeepers, only worthy of
being their husband s servants, unable to be financially independent. However, due to factors such as
the progression of time and the urbanisation of cities it is no longer the case. Cities are relatively large,
dense and permanent human settlements , they also referred to as towns, urban agglomerations or
urban settlements (Beall Fox, 2009: 7). Urbanisation can most simply be defined as the process of
becoming more modernised or urbanised. Because cities are more modernised than rural areas, cities
are then seen as great points for accessing opportunities that will lead to a more improved standard of
living. Within this essay the question of whether cities enable the status and livelihoods of women to
be improved will be answered, as well as the factors that come with urbanisation (being: poverty and
vulnerability) will be highlighted (from Cities and Development prescribed book Chapter 4).
STATUS OF WOMEN
Status is a phenomenon that emerges from school organisation, through the processes of
differentiation and evaluation, rather than as an outgrowth of intrinsic or natural characteristics of
persons (Bradley Khor, 1993: 384). Unfortunately with that said, the institutions that exist within
society tend to evaluate and differentiate on the basis of sex which then constructs a sense

Confessionalist Characteristics Of Allen Ginsberg And The...
Beat Generation Research Paper During the 1950s, many different literary movements came to the
spotlight. Two such movements were Confessionalism and Beat poetry. There are many
commonalities between these movements, and often, authors and works from the Beat movement
incorporate various Confessionalist characteristics. Allen Ginsberg, one such author, combined both
Confessionalism and Beat poetry in a variety of his works, including Howl and Kaddish. The
Confessionalist aspects of Allen Ginsberg and his works, such as Howl, were heavily outweighed by
the Beat aspects in his work. The Beat poetry movement began in the 1950s due to the tense political
climate and heavily conformative society. During this time, America was a policing ... Show more

In addition to adopting peaceful religions, such as Buddhism, Beat poets attempted to connect with
their spiritual state of being by engaging in drug usage and meditating.
To distinguish themselves in literature, they picked at the flaws they perceived in romanticism,
modernist poetry, and the New Criticism. They abandoned the typical form and structure of formalist
poetry. Instead, they commonly followed the footsteps of Walt Whitman and his free verse. The free
verse allowed them to sync their words with a musical flow, especially that of jazz. In addition to free
verse, the Beat poetry contained unregulated self expression. The Beats believed that true emotions
were expressed in the moment, and often would not edit their works. They also openly discussed
sexual experimentation, specifically that directed to the gay culture. Beats also wrote about their usage
of drugs, and its ability to help perceive the truth. Their work portrayed a belief that the arts
transcended mortality.
Allen Ginsberg was born on June 3, 1926 to a schizophrenic mother. His experience with his mother
heavily affected him, as evident in his portrayal of mental illness in much of his work. Considered one
of the founders of Beat poetry, Ginsberg brought attention to the movement with his performance of
his poem Howl. Howl reflected the free verse and jazz components common to the movement. It also
reflected Jack Kerouac and the Old

Life During the 1800s
Life during the 1800s was already difficult for many people. When Civil War started, living became
even more difficult for the most of the Americans. Civil War camp life was hard for most of the people
.Northerners won the Civil War. Why did the Northerners win the Civil War? Is it because of the
soldiers who worked together in the camps? Soldier s life during the Civil War wasn t easy. Soldier s
daily life was miserable. They had possibilities of getting killed. They had to deal with starvation,
climate conditions, poor clothing and even routine between battles. During the fall, they would work
on the winter camps but they would extend the stay at one place. Soldier s life was bad and prisoner s
life was worse than the soldier. Conditions were so bad. Thousands of soldiers died while being held
as a captive. Approximately 470,000 soldiers were held captive during the Civil War. In the camp life
soldiers rested when possible. Soldiers were forced to call camp home in their terms of service. Life in
camp was very different for officers and enlisted men. Many soldiers camps were home for up to three
years. Last two years of camp were good for soldiers. They had enough food and got use to living in
camps. On an average day, soldiers were woken at daybreak to begin their day. They had drills in the
morning and afternoon where they got trained for battle. Soldier s mostly spent their time in the camp.

This may happen for the reason known as diffusion of responsibility . Psychologists have proven that
people are less likely to intercede in a situation if there are more people present. For example, John
Darley and Bibb Latane have done many experiments proving the bystander effect. One experiment is
called The Smoke Filled Room Experiment where they take in random person and put a smoke
machine in another room. Darley and Latane put more people in the same room that the targeted
person is in and turn on the smoke machine. They observe if the targeted person will react if nobody
else does. Almost every time the targeted person would look around to see if anybody was doing
anything, notice that the others didn t react, and stay seated knowing that their life could be in danger.
Furthermore, people always depend on someone else to make the first decision before following after
them. This evidence is proof of the psychological phenomenon of Bystander

First of all, the author mentioned the historical perspective of healthcare. There are two different
points of view on the historical perspective of healthcare: nation s view of individual health and the
development of its healthcare system as a whole. Lead into that the professional nursing has been
modeled by historical events. For example, Florence Nightingale s response to the needs of the

Minority Student Diversity
Abstract
Within the last decade or so, the number of minority students and first generation students enrolling,
attending and graduating from colleges in the US has increased significantly despite the rising cost of
enrollment. This increase is due to the available scholarships, funding opportunities, affirmative action
or quota to be met by these institutions. The shift in the number of minority students graduating has
also affected the diversity of people in the workplace. Although discrimination legally ended more
than 40 years ago with the Civil Rights Movement, the ongoing battle of minority people in the United
States trying to assimilate into a culture and justice system that does not work in their favor has
continued although it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White students represent 75% of the students at the top 468 colleges in the country even though they
are only 62% of the country s college age population (Fletcher, 2013). On the other hand 67% of black
students and 75% of Latino students attend open access colleges. Black and Latino students make up
37% of students at open access schools but only 15% of students at the nation s top colleges while
making up 33% of the country s college age population (Fletcher,2013). Although black and Latino
students are attending college at higher rates, they are not given the tools necessary to graduate and
succeed at the same rates as their white counterparts. 30% of black and Latino students with an A
averages in high school end up in community colleges, as compared with 22% of white students
(Fletcher, 2013). Anthony Carnevale explains this phenomena saying, The higher education system is
colorblind in theory but in fact operates, at least in part, as a systematic barrier to opportunity for
many blacks and Hispanics, many of whom are college qualified but tracked into overcrowded and
under funded colleges, where they are less likely to develop fully or to graduate (Fletcher, 2013).
Carnevale further explains that the issue is not particularly with the students but the system that does
not support them. Michael Dannenberg, director of higher education and education finance policy at
the Education Trust, noted What individual colleges do often can make all the difference in the world
between a student graduating or leaving with a pile of debt and no degree. Demography is not destiny,
and what colleges do matters (Roach,

Truss Design Project Essay
Summary
We have designed a truss to support a point load, placed at 190mm from the edge of a 450mm gap.
The vertical face of the trusses is modelled on the already established K truss design, but the overall
shape of the structure is our own. There are three K units on each truss. The two vertical faces are held
together at the top by another truss like design. We modelled this on the N truss.
The truss is constructed from hot dog sticks, glue and bolts.
Introduction
The task was to construct a truss out of 48 hot dog sticks and 30 bolts to support as large a point load
as possible. It was to span a gap of 450mm and to support a load placed at 190mm from the end. The
truss may have a maximum depth beneath the supports of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We began with a simplified curve and flat bottom, but discovered that a slightly curved bottom
distributed the weight more evenly to the truss. The maximum and minimum points of these curves
were best positioned at the point of loading, 190mm from one end.
The more curved the truss, and the greater the number of K units, the more evenly the weight is
distributed. However, the truss structure is limited by the weight of the hot dog sticks used. For this
reason, there are only two K units on the 190mm side, and three on the 270mm side. We have
optimised weight distribution, given the constraint of the weight limit.
The direction in which the Ks point is important. A better distribution of weight can be obtained when
the top diagonal branch of the K points down towards the closest end of the truss. We changed the
design accordingly.
The point where the diagonal members meet on the vertical member of each K affects the weight
distribution. We found that the higher this point is made, the lower the forces in the members.
At first we limited the total length of a member to the length of one popsicle stick; however, by
modelling the centre length as a single member in pure tension, we were able to increase the length of
this member to make the truss stronger.
Since a single hot dog stick can only support an average tension force of 230N and compression load
of not more than 25N, we used the

Risk Management in Johns Hopkins Hospital
Risk Management in Johns Hopkins Hospital Introduction Risk management is the managerial process
of plummeting unreasonable and unplanned losses that ultimately affect an organization. To many it is
also referred to as a loss exposure handling mode of management. In many organizations especially
health facilities such as Johns Hopkins Hospital, losses mainly attributes to a financial crisis and
require proper risk management methodologies. There are a lot of risks pertained to many day to day
activities, ranging from surgeries to the actions of the health workforce and the subordinate staff.
Hence, it is vital to address the risks through necessitated functions and tasks resulting to risk

organizations is to better the care regarding patients and to relate this aspect to financial consideration.
The process maximizes on the care of patients and reduces unexpected or spontaneous financial losses
in the organization. It is, therefore, important for the said institution to take dig into appropriate
measures under risk management to curd problems in its clinical, operational and its financial state.
The core principle in risk management is the creation, planning and implementation of a risk
management program in the health care facility (CNA, 2011, pg 1). The program takes the sole

Comment on humanistic school of psychology.
Humanistic school of psychology gained importance in midst of 20th century. The limitations of
Sigmund Freud s psycho analytic theory and B.F Skinner s behaviourism formed the basis of

Humanistic psychologists start from the conclusion that every person has their own unique way of

kinds of questions they ask about people differ from those asked by psychologists from other
approaches. Whereas other approaches take an objective view of people, in essence asking about

Hollow Men Critical Analysis
Eliot s Hollow Men: A Depiction of Human Weakness
Analysis of desperation and man s weakness projects throughout the poem The Hollow Men. As the
focus of the author, he succeeds in depicting and registering the mood of personal weakness. Through
reading the poem, there is an air of despair, weakness, and disappointment. It is imperative to
acknowledge that the poem presents an order of events that are effective towards the depiction of
human weakness. For example, weakness is shown when the men are trapped in the desert in a given
bank of a river that is daunting to cross. The odd troubles of their current predicament describe to
perpetuate human weakness. This paper will evaluate human weakness as propagated by the poem,
The Hollow Men.
Is it like this, in death s other kingdom, waking alone is an important quote that depicts human
weakness in the face of various fears (Bush 20). For example, weaknesses express itself through the
curiosity of the characters as to whether or not heaven is as bad as their current environment.
Specifically, the notion of loneliness is evident in the quote as an important aspect circumventing

Essay about Charles Darwin s Life and Revolutionary Work
Charles Darwin by far, revolutionized biology as known to modern society. He is responsible for the
theory of evolution that people of today still go by. He was born on February 12, 1809 in England as
the fifth child into the family of Dr. Robert and Susannah Darwin. He had three older sisters and one
older brother. Because of his father s success as a physician, and his mother coming from the
Wedgewood family fortune, the Darwin family was considered well off. Robert Darwin worked many
great hours while Susannah stayed home to take care of the children. Unfortunately, when Charles was
eight years old his mother passed away from complications of an illness that she had for a year. From
that point on, Robert began working much more and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After graduation, he received a letter from his friend Henslow informing him that he knew of a sailor
captain in search of a naturalist and thought Charles was best suited for the job. Though Robert
Darwin was hesitant about letting his son go, he eventually caved. The journey that Charles Darwin
went on became known as the Voyage of the Beagle. The ultimate goal of the journey was to study
and map the coast lines of South America. Charles Darwin had been given the chance to explore a
world unknown by Europeans. Not only that, but Charles would be able to do some science as well.
From the adventure, Charles Darwin learned many new fascinating things. He saw animals on land
that resembled other animals but were adapted to different things. For example, he saw two types of
lizards one that was made to live in the water and one that was made to live on land. This sparked his
curiosity. According to the book of Genesis, nothing that God has created changes. Everything
remains the same, as God had intended. When he found fossils, the same was true. He found things
that had resembled animals of his time but were slightly bigger or different in some way or another
but they had been extinct. Charles began to believe that the animals were changing despite the fact
that his thoughts went against everything he was taught. He took lots of samples of animals and
findings back home to England. He was going to need evidence to support his new theory yet it took
him nearly twenty

English Language As A Language
Introduction
English has taken over the course of huge advancement that is the reason why it has been preferred
over any particular linguistics and for the same reason it has been taught and studied all around the
world. These prospects led to the formation of English language as a lingua franca, whether it s United
Kingdom, United States or Canada people have devised their own extents for speaking the
English(Wen, 2012). Not only in the European countries but also in all over South Asia, English has
been utilised as the lingua franca as the English language has been definitively utilised without being
necessarily the language of identification. English language has been utilised for the aspects of
communication because it determined the stylistic features of an enhanced community. Therefore
people all around the world started to learn English to modernise their linguistics and to be diversified
because in most of the countries all around the world only English language has advocated its
impression to lessen the communication barriers(Mufwene, 2012). In this particular essay it would be
realised that how English has transformed to become the lingua franca of the business world and what
could be the reasons, suggestions for business and for native and non native speakers of English.
Critical discussion
The presence of a worldwide lingua franca gives a favourable position to numerous individuals. This
incorporates both Anglophones and non Anglophones. People around the world

Slaves In History Research Paper
There were more than 80,000 slaves in ancient greece? There were so many jobs that slaves did that s
why there were so many of them. Without slaves our world would have been a lot different now than it
was. Slaves worked as factory workers, farm workers, and more. They impacted their lives by a lot,
and is a big part of our history.
What Slaves Did
Slaves were servants, factory workers, shopkeepers, mine workers, and many other things that they
would want them to do. They had slaves do their work because they didn t want to do it themselves.
They had to work for their owners, and they didn t have a choice unless they wanted to get wiped and
other stuff. Or they were also starved to death. Some slaves were captured by kidnappers or as
prisoners of war and sold them as slaves, so they didn t have to do the work, It was hard to find out
who kidnapped them because they were really sneaky at it, and a lot of people did it.
How they became slaves
All slaves were born free, but they were captured by kidnappers. That s how they became slaves, or
their parents could have sold them to slavery. If there parents didn t have money they would sell them
and it was normal back then. That s how they became slaves. Some chose to work for other people, or

Essay on The Role of Labor in American History
This brief history of more than 100 years of the modern trade union movement in the United States
can only touch the high spots of activity and identify the principal trends of a century of achievement.
In such a condensation of history, episodes of importance and of great human drama must necessarily
be discussed far too briefly, or in some cases relegated to a mere mention.
What is clearly evident, however, is that the working people of America have had to unite in struggle
to achieve the gains that they have accumulated during this century. Improvements did not come
easily. Organizing unions, winning the right to representation, using the collective bargaining process
as the core of their activities, struggling against bias and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through these decades, the labor movement has constantly reached out to groups in the American
society striving for their share of opportunity and rewards..... to the blacks, the Hispanics and other
minorities..... to women striving for jobs and equal or comparable pay . . . to those who work for better
schools, for the freedom of speech, press and assembly guaranteed by the Bill of Rights ... to those
seeking to make our cities more livable or our rural recreation areas more available . . . to those
seeking better health for infants and more secure status for the elderly.
Through these decades, in addition, the unions of America have functioned in an economy and a
technology marked by awesome change. When the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions
gathered in convention in 1881, Edison had two years earlier invented the electric light, and the first
telephone conversation had taken place just five years before. There were no autos, no airplanes, no
radio, no television, no air conditioning, no computers or calculators, no electronic games. For our
modest energy needs coal, kerosene and candies we were independently self sufficient.
The labor movement has seen old industries die (horse shoeing was once a major

The argumentthat asset prices are set by rational investors is part of the grand oral traditionin
economics and is often attributedto Milton Friedman, one of the greatesteconomists of the century and
one of the greatestdebatersof all time. But the argument has two fundamental problems. First, even if
asset priceswere set only by rationalinvestors in the aggregate, knowing what individual investors are
doing might still be of interest. Second, although the argumentis intuitively appealing and reassuring,
its adherents have rarely spelled it out carefully. Suppose a markethas two kinds of investors: rational
investors (rationals), who behave like agents in economics textbooks, and quasi rational investors
(quasi s),people who are trying as hard as they can to make good investmentdecisions but make
predictablemistakes. Suppose also that two assets in this market,X and Y, areobjectivelyworth the
same amount but cannotbe transformedfrom one into the other. Finally, assume that the quasi s thinkX
is worth more thanY, an opinion thatcould change (quasi soften changetheirminds) while the
rationalsknow that X and Y are worth the same. What conditions are necessary to assure that the prices

Analysis Of Latinos And The American Dream By Linda Chavez
Opportunities in America are limited for minorities, yet even more so for the Hispanic population. The
American view on what Hispanic people are like are severely one sided due to the media often
portraying them as poor and as criminals. Discrimination has held the Hispanic community back from
advancing in society compared to other minorities. Hispanics and the American Dream, written by
Linda Chavez, lays out the internal issues that exist within the Hispanic community and how that
affects their progress in American society.
The Hispanic population in America has reached more than twenty one million and is constantly
growing, yet they continue to face constant discrimination and are widely perceived as the drugs of
society. (Chavez, Pg. 57) Chavez declares that Hispanic advocates focus more on the idea of their
community s suppression rather than highlight how Latinos contribute to American society and their
admirable efforts in reaching such feats. Research has shown that the words Hispanic or Latino
occurred in close connection with the word poverty in more than eighteen hundred stories found in
print media. (Chavez, Pg. 58) Out of all the Hispanic groups in America, Mexican Americans have the
longest history in the United States, however, they have not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Due to the focus on children, babies of Mexican decent are born healthier than other races because of
the extra emphasis on nutrition that pregnant Mexican mothers set for themselves. Hispanic parents

life as they are building solid lower middle and middle class lives... their education level has been
steadily rising, their earnings no longer reflect wide disparities with those of non Hispanics... (Chavez,

Use of Force
The use of force has always been a questionable tactic in law enforcement and security fields.
Everyone always questions how much force is needed, was the force justifiable and could the officer
have done something differently to deter the use of force. By teaching officers and protection agents
what is the appropriate level of force and in what situations force can be stronger will help to prevent
unnecessary questioning by the public and the media. Most agencies have guidelines and policies that
outline the use of force. These guidelines describe the escalating continuum that is appropriate for
officers and agents to use.
The use of force continuum is designed into five separate levels. Level one is the simple presence of
an officer or agent. The agent is non threatening and professional, and the mere presence of the agent
is to act as deterrence for an attacker. Level two is the verbalization level. This is when an agent uses
verbal commands such as please step back, stop, or do not move to make the individual to stop his or
her approach. This is a non physical stage and is used to let the attacker know that there is someone
present to stop him or her if he or she continues. Level

chances are strong that they may have the potential to win public support. The theme that stands out to
me the most in regards to winning public support is rights. Rights stands out to me for multiple
reasons. The theme for the advocacy project I am participating is is Aboriginal Rights. A tremendous

threads for digital voice and data operations. Based on older telephone models mobile phones are
designed to transmit voices. In first generation, cellphones are basically radios, they are used to
transmit analog signals to a cell tower through air. In the second generation, voices were digitized but
sent in the same way through circuit switching network, which establishes a connection between two

Social Learning Theory and The Effect of TV Violence on Children
In the United States children watch an average of three to fours hours of television daily (Cantor
Wilson, 1984, p. 28). Television can be a powerful influence in developing value systems and shaping
behavior. Unfortunately, much of today s television programming is violent. Studies of the effects of
TV violence on children and teenagers have found that children may become insensitive to violence.
Consequently, they tend to gradually accept violence as a way to solve problems by imitating the
violence they observe on television; and they identify with certain characters, good or bad. Therefore,
extensive viewing of television violence by children causes greater ... Show more content on

Children who watch television shows in which violence is very realistic, frequently repeated or
unpunished, are more likely to imitate what they see, ( p.25). Children with emotional, behavioral, or
learning problems may be more easily influenced by TV violence (Bandura, 1977). The impact of TV
violence may be immediately evident in the child s behavior or may surface later, and young people
can even be affected when the family atmosphere shows no tendency toward violence (Cantor Wilson,
1984). Therefore, while TV violence is not the only cause of aggressive or violent behavior, it is
clearly a significant factor. The Good in Television Not all television is bad. There are several
excellent programs dedicated to young children. Some programs incorporate entertainment and
education to help children learn and identify characters, shapes and colors. Programs such as Mr.
Rogers Neighborhood and Sesame Street also help promote good behavior and cooperation. Dr. Ernest
Boyer, President of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and former US
Commissioner of Education, stated: Television sparks curiosity and opens up distant worlds to
children. Through its magic, youngsters can travel to the moon or the bottom of the sea. They can visit
castles, take river trips, or explore imaginary lands. . .With selective viewing, television can richly
contribute to school readiness. (Chen, p. 122) Unfortunately, most

  • 6. Improved Status for Women CAN CITIES BE SEEN AS ENIGINES OF IMPROVED STATUS AND LIVELIHOODS FOR WOMEN? INTRODUCTION In the past women were seen as nothing more than child bearers and housekeepers, only worthy of being their husband s servants, unable to be financially independent. However, due to factors such as the progression of time and the urbanisation of cities it is no longer the case. Cities are relatively large, dense and permanent human settlements , they also referred to as towns, urban agglomerations or urban settlements (Beall Fox, 2009: 7). Urbanisation can most simply be defined as the process of becoming more modernised or urbanised. Because cities are more modernised than rural areas, cities are then seen as great points for accessing opportunities that will lead to a more improved standard of living. Within this essay the question of whether cities enable the status and livelihoods of women to be improved will be answered, as well as the factors that come with urbanisation (being: poverty and vulnerability) will be highlighted (from Cities and Development prescribed book Chapter 4). The Confessionalist aspects of Allen Ginsberg and his works, such as Howl, were heavily outweighed by the Beat aspects in his work. The Beat poetry movement began in the 1950s due to the tense political climate and heavily conformative society. During this time, America was a policing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to adopting peaceful religions, such as Buddhism, Beat poets attempted to connect with their spiritual state of being by engaging in drug usage and meditating. To distinguish themselves in literature, they picked at the flaws they perceived in romanticism, modernist poetry, and the New Criticism. They abandoned the typical form and structure of formalist poetry. Instead, they commonly followed the footsteps of Walt Whitman and his free verse. The free verse allowed them to sync their words with a musical flow, especially that of jazz. In addition to free verse, the Beat poetry contained unregulated self expression. The Beats believed that true emotions were expressed in the moment, and often would not edit their works. They also openly discussed sexual experimentation, specifically that directed to the gay culture. Beats also wrote about their usage of drugs, and its ability to help perceive the truth. Their work portrayed a belief that the arts transcended mortality. Allen Ginsberg was born on June 3, 1926 to a schizophrenic mother. His experience with his mother heavily affected him, as evident in his portrayal of mental illness in much of his work. Considered one of the founders of Beat poetry, Ginsberg brought attention to the movement with his performance of his poem Howl. Howl reflected the free verse and jazz components common to the movement. It also reflected Jack Kerouac and the Old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One experiment is called The Smoke Filled Room Experiment where they take in random person and put a smoke machine in another room. Darley and Latane put more people in the same room that the targeted person is in and turn on the smoke machine. They observe if the targeted person will react if nobody else does. Almost every time the targeted person would look around to see if anybody was doing anything, notice that the others didn t react, and stay seated knowing that their life could be in danger. Minority Student Diversity Abstract Within the last decade or so, the number of minority students and first generation students enrolling, attending and graduating from colleges in the US has increased significantly despite the rising cost of enrollment. This increase is due to the available scholarships, funding opportunities, affirmative action or quota to be met by these institutions. The shift in the number of minority students graduating has also affected the diversity of people in the workplace. Although discrimination legally ended more than 40 years ago with the Civil Rights Movement, the ongoing battle of minority people in the United States trying to assimilate into a culture and justice system that does not work in their favor has continued although it is ... Black and Latino students make up 37% of students at open access schools but only 15% of students at the nation s top colleges while making up 33% of the country s college age population (Fletcher,2013). Although black and Latino students are attending college at higher rates, they are not given the tools necessary to graduate and succeed at the same rates as their white counterparts. 30% of black and Latino students with an A averages in high school end up in community colleges, as compared with 22% of white students (Fletcher, 2013). Anthony Carnevale explains this phenomena saying, The higher education system is colorblind in theory but in fact operates, at least in part, as a systematic barrier to opportunity for many blacks and Hispanics, many of whom are college qualified but tracked into overcrowded and under funded colleges, where they are less likely to develop fully or to graduate (Fletcher, 2013). Carnevale further explains that the issue is not particularly with the students but the system that does not support them. Michael Dannenberg, director of higher education and education finance policy at the Education Trust, noted What individual colleges do often can make all the difference in the world between a student graduating or leaving with a pile of debt and no degree. • 14. Truss Design Project Essay Summary We have designed a truss to support a point load, placed at 190mm from the edge of a 450mm gap. The vertical face of the trusses is modelled on the already established K truss design, but the overall shape of the structure is our own. There are three K units on each truss. The two vertical faces are held together at the top by another truss like design. We modelled this on the N truss. The truss is constructed from hot dog sticks, glue and bolts. Introduction The task was to construct a truss out of 48 hot dog sticks and 30 bolts to support as large a point load as possible. It was to span a gap of 450mm and to support a load placed at 190mm from the end. The truss may have a maximum depth beneath the supports of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We began with a simplified curve and flat bottom, but discovered that a slightly curved bottom distributed the weight more evenly to the truss. The maximum and minimum points of these curves were best positioned at the point of loading, 190mm from one end. The more curved the truss, and the greater the number of K units, the more evenly the weight is distributed. However, the truss structure is limited by the weight of the hot dog sticks used. For this reason, there are only two K units on the 190mm side, and three on the 270mm side. We have optimised weight distribution, given the constraint of the weight limit. The direction in which the Ks point is important. A better distribution of weight can be obtained when the top diagonal branch of the K points down towards the closest end of the truss. We changed the design accordingly. The point where the diagonal members meet on the vertical member of each K affects the weight distribution. We found that the higher this point is made, the lower the forces in the members. At first we limited the total length of a member to the length of one popsicle stick; however, by modelling the centre length as a single member in pure tension, we were able to increase the length of this member to make the truss stronger. Since a single hot dog stick can only support an average tension force of 230N and compression load of not more than 25N, we used the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Hispanic population in America has reached more than twenty one million and is constantly growing, yet they continue to face constant discrimination and are widely perceived as the drugs of society. (Chavez, Pg. 57) Chavez declares that Hispanic advocates focus more on the idea of their community s suppression rather than highlight how Latinos contribute to American society and their admirable efforts in reaching such feats. Research has shown that the words Hispanic or Latino occurred in close connection with the word poverty in more than eighteen hundred stories found in print media. Use of Force The use of force has always been a questionable tactic in law enforcement and security fields. Everyone always questions how much force is needed, was the force justifiable and could the officer have done something differently to deter the use of force. By teaching officers and protection agents what is the appropriate level of force and in what situations force can be stronger will help to prevent unnecessary questioning by the public and the media. Most agencies have guidelines and policies that outline the use of force. These guidelines describe the escalating continuum that is appropriate for officers and agents to use. The use of force continuum is designed into five separate levels. Level one is the simple presence of an officer or agent. The agent is non threatening and professional, and the mere presence of the agent is to act as deterrence for an attacker. Level two is the verbalization level. This is when an agent uses verbal commands such as please step back, stop, or do not move to make the individual to stop his or her approach. This is a non physical stage and is used to let the attacker know that there is someone present to stop him or her if he or she continues. Level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theme for the advocacy project I am participating is is Aboriginal Rights. A tremendous struggle for indigenous people is rights. • 38. Social Learning Theory and The Effect of TV Violence on... Social Learning Theory and The Effect of TV Violence on Children In the United States children watch an average of three to fours hours of television daily (Cantor Wilson, 1984, p. 28). Television can be a powerful influence in developing value systems and shaping behavior. Unfortunately, much of today s television programming is violent. Studies of the effects of TV violence on children and teenagers have found that children may become insensitive to violence. Consequently, they tend to gradually accept violence as a way to solve problems by imitating the violence they observe on television; and they identify with certain characters, good or bad. Children who watch television shows in which violence is very realistic, frequently repeated or unpunished, are more likely to imitate what they see, ( p.25). Children with emotional, behavioral, or learning problems may be more easily influenced by TV violence (Bandura, 1977). The impact of TV violence may be immediately evident in the child s behavior or may surface later, and young people can even be affected when the family atmosphere shows no tendency toward violence (Cantor Wilson, 1984). Therefore, while TV violence is not the only cause of aggressive or violent behavior, it is clearly a significant factor. The Good in Television Not all television is bad. There are several excellent programs dedicated to young children. Some programs incorporate entertainment and education to help children learn and identify characters, shapes and colors. Programs such as Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and Sesame Street also help promote good behavior and cooperation. Dr. Ernest Boyer, President of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and former US Commissioner of Education, stated: Television sparks curiosity and opens up distant worlds to children. Through its magic, youngsters can travel to the moon or the bottom of the sea. They can visit castles, take river trips, or explore imaginary lands. . .With selective viewing, television can richly contribute to school readiness. (Chen, p. 122) Unfortunately, most ...
