Sunspot Inc Case Study Essay
Case Study # 1 Sunspot Inc.
1. What are the most likely benefits of forming strategic supply alliances with Sunspot s key
suppliers?
I believe that it is important to realize that a strategic alliance or partnership is solely depended on
trust and faith in the relationship between all involved in simultaneous stages should not change or use
those stages for their own advantage without consideration of the organization involved. Some of the
advantages would be:
Developing competences and learning form the partners
Suitability and protection of resources is maintained
Developing low cost models hence financial benefit
Each partner can concentrate on different stages of the supply

4. Should Glass suggest a materials manager?
Material manager deals with the tangible components of a supply chain covering the acquisition and
replacement of parts, quality control of purchasing and ordering parts, and the standards involved in
ordering, shipping, and warehousing those parts. I think in this case, it would be beneficial for the
company to hire one; it would consolidate all aspects of the supply chain and better the
communication between all the departments involved.
5. Should Glass build up her inventories?
I don t think it s just a matter of building up the inventory. All you are doing there is trading the cost of
higher freight bills for the cost of keeping a larger inventory. It s not just building the inventory, its
accurately building the inventory through better forecasting.
Case Study # 3 Pacific Healthcare
1. What alternatives should Barney Rubble consider when addressing the problem?
It is clear that there are several cheaper options than Kodak. The problem is that Kodak also furnishes
X ray equipment at a lower price, including maintenance and service because of the single supplier
agreement they have with Pacific. So while he may save on film by going with a cheaper option, he
may have to pay more for the equipment service and maintenance. These are all things Mr. Rubble
should consider.
2. Should Pacific s supply policies allow for any

Customer Service Quality At Comcast Corporation Essay
Customer Service Quality
Lack of good quality customer service can have a negative impact on any company, from fast food
restaurants to large corporations with call centers. Looking at Comcast Corporation as a specific
example of poor customer service quality, we will identify the source of the negative impact and
provide different options for improvement of quality within the call center.
Comcast Corporation started out as a small cable company and grew tremendously to the number one
company in internet and cable providers. This growth is directly correlated to the risks CEO Brian
Roberts has taken throughout the years such as buying smaller cable companies, successfully
acquiring investors to back the corporation, and at times learning from past mistakes. With a company
this big, problems are going to arise, but at what cost does a lack of quality in the customer service
department ultimately bring? Bad news travels a lot faster than good news, but if a company already
stands in the number one position, is upper management truly concerned? Business Insider s article
The 15 Worse Companies for Customer Service rated Comcast #4. The second lowest ranked cable
service. (Nisen, 2013) This refers to the television service alone, however, both internet and cable
received low scores. Comcast has lost hundreds of thousands of TV subscribers, due to online
streaming of shows with the use of Hulu and Netflix. Would a high quality of customer service give
customers the

Persuasive Essay On Bigfoot
Bigfoot (or Sasquatch ) is a tall, dark haired cryptid humanoid that has become a mystery to the
American people. Unfortunately, many believe that the furry beast is simply a hoax, while others
know what they saw in the mysterious forest. Based on countless discoveries, Bigfoot has existed at
some point. Considering the proof presented by dedicated Bigfoot scientists and fans, totally
debunking the controversial topic of Bigfoot would seem ignorant. Perhaps people are not digging
deep enough to find the creature. The quest began when Bigfoot was captured on film for the first time
by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin. In the year of 1967, the two men were out in a remote
mountainous location in Northern California. After Patterson heard about the tracks found near Bluff
Creek, he was determined to make a documentary about the mysteries of the Sasquatch. Buoyant, he
rented a 16mm movie camera and went to the area in question with his comrade, Bob Gimlin. He
caught the beast on camera casually strolling through an open clearing, staring at Patterson filming
while continuing to walk. The film became known as the Patterson Gimlin film. According to Animal
Planet, The Patterson Gimlin film is widely regarded as one of the strongest pieces of evidence for the
existence of Sasquatches, ( The Patterson Gimlin footage ).
Throughout the years, the film has received loads

Catherine De Medici Research Paper
Catherine de Medici Imagine caring for your children in your palace and getting news of your
husband s death. Now you are the ruler of a nation with all the responsibility of a king. This is what
Catherine de Medici faced. Her life would be forever changed, yet she is remembered by France for
her influence. She was important to history because she started a religious war in Europe to take
power over France; something a woman had never done. She also built many of France s lavish
buildings. Catherine de Medici was born on April 13, 1519 in Florence, Italy. Her parents were

would help her to maintain power in her hands. One of Catherine s contributions was the construction
of many lavish buildings in France which she donated to the French public. This included adding a
new wing to the Louvre Museum, the design and construction of the Tuilleries Gardens, and the
building of the Chateau Monceau. She also taught the French people how to use a fork and introduced
to new food including the pea and many new sauces which she brought over from Italy. Catherine died
on January 5, 1589 in Blois France after catching pneumonia from dancing too much at her
granddaughter s wedding. Sadly many of her buildings were destroyed and her artworks collections
given away, but her contributions to theater and the arts live on today in the form of modern day
ballets and opera. She is remembered as highly influential women in French history, and the French

Compare And Contrast Cuchulainn And Beowulf
Heroes comes in all different shapes and sizes. This is clearly seen when comparing the heroes in the
stories of Beowulf, Cuchulainn s Boyhood Deeds, Lanval, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. For
example, Beowulf and Cuchulainn both share traits of a hero; however, have drastic dissimilarities.
In their respective narratives, Beowulf and Cuchulainn and Beowulf battle evil, except in different
forms. While Beowulf combats giant monsters with his bare hands, Cuchulainn uses weapons and
accessories. [Beowulf] hereby renounce sword and the shelter of the broad shield, the heavy war

The Hobbit Movie Vs Movie Essay
The thought that is running through all our heads when we are in English class is, can t we just watch
the movie? The answer is no, we can t just watch the movie because the book has many major details
that the movie does not include. For our age, reading the book will have a major impact on our life
ahead, how we look at the world, and how we look at others. Some of us may be unhappy that we are
reading the book and not just watching the movie, but we need to realize, that not only with The
Hobbit but with all movies, they are vastly different from the books.
In chapter one of the book An Unexpected Party compared to the first part Hobbit movie, (An
Unexpected Journey) there were many very noticeable differences. Such as the way the ... Show more

Such as how they escaped from the Goblin tunnels. In the book, they Just took the chance when none
of the Goblins were looking and ran. In the movie, they had to defeat the Goblin King in order to
escape. For Bilbo, escaping was a slightly different journey in this section of the book compared to the
movie. For Bilbo in the book he had gotten hit in the head and was lost. He found Gollum s ring and
played his game of riddles then escaped. In the movie the goblins did not see Bilbo, so he was not
captured. He had fallen off of one of the walk ways and saw Gollum s ring and took it. He had his
game of riddles and then escaped.
Chapter six Out of the Frying Pan into the Fire and the last part of the first movie there were some
minor differences that will impact the rest of the book and the next movies. In the book, once Thorin
and company escaped the goblin tunnels, Bilbo told the others how he had escaped using this magical
ring. However, in the movie, he did not mention using any magical ring while escaping Gollum.
In the start of the second movie, (The Desolation of Smaug) compared to the seventh chapter of the
Hobbit Queer Lodgings, there were many very noticeable differences. In the start of the second movie,
Peter Jackson added a scene where Gandalf and Thorin were talking in a bar about the journey they
would venture together. That scene was not in the book. How the company met Beorn, (a shape
shifter) was also vastly different from

Speech To Roseanne
Throughout my writing experience there have been many papers that I enjoyed writing and many that
I did not. The writing experience that is the most memorable to me is in my freshman year of high
school at University High School in Orange City, Florida. I wrote a short story called Speech to
Roseanne . This story was about a young southern female teenager who was just starting high school.
During the previous summer time, she had a major dispute that happened between herself and best
friend, Roseanne. This dispute carried over to the start of their freshman year in high school. In the end
of the story, despite the fact that Roseanne tried to apologize for the comments she made about Mel
Bell s family, Mel Bell could not get past what her formal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is shown by the conflict between Mel Bell and Roseanne having a disagreement that they could
never get pass and also Mel Bell living in regret because she could not forgive her friend for the
mistake. Everyone goes through some type of conflict with a family member or a friend that is
extremely close to us. Another positive constraint that this story possessed is owning up to self
choices. This is shown through the character Mel Bell because at the end of the story she goes to
Roseanne s funeral and she asks for Roseanne s forgiven. Mel Bell realizes that Roseanne apologized
before her tragic death because she as well wanted to own up to her mistake of belittling her best
friend s family. Some negative constraints about the short story are that it targets a specific type of
reader. Because I made this for my freshman year of high school, thusly, the message is more tailored
to the audience of that time. Secondly, the overall message was a bit more novice in writing rather
than more recent writings. These shortcomings attribute to the short story s negative constraints.
When I turned in my short story to my teacher I ended up getting a A on my paper. I was very pleased
with my grade. But most importantly, I was more impressed with my dedication towards writing this
paper. There were times that I could

Archetypes Used In William Blake s Poetry
William Blake was one of the most influential writers to come from the romantic period. Writers and
artists who rose from this time period were more free spirited and focused more on philosophy than
religion. LIke many from his time, William Blake wrote about society and nature; what was in his
heart. All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my heart is all my own (Wolfgang
von Goethe). This statement represents the way of thinking in the romantic era, writes such as Blake
wrote what was in their own hearts. Blake is most well known for his use of archetypes in his writings.
Archetypes are ideas with emotional power, plot pattern, or character types, usually in a symbolic
form. In William Blake s four poems: The Lamb, The Tyger, The Chimney Sweeper, and Infant
sorrow; Blake uses archetypes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this poem, innocence is represented by the lamb. The poem, in its entirety, uses childlike techniques
and a soft, defenseless animal as his archetype to show innocence. The poem uses repetition and
simple words to declare its purpose. These points are shown when William blake states, Little Lamb
who made thee Dost thou know who made thee. (Page 748 Line 1) The archetypes in this poem
represent the idea of innocence. The idea of innocence comes from Blake s Songs of innocence and
songs of experience.
In contradiction, William Blake s poem, The Tyger, shows the use of archetypes through the tyger. The
tyger, himself, is a symbol for anger, power, and strength. Unlike, The Lamb, this poem uses a more
complex writing style. This poem differs from, The Lamb, in writing styles, for example, Blake doesn
t use repetition in this poem. This poem has a more mature and complex meaning, it is more serious
and dark. In this poem, Blake questions God s motives when he says, Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee? (Page 749 Line

My Experience Of Swimming
Swimming demands nothing short of perfection.
I was ten when I first entered into a major Swimming competition, a stepping stone towards achieving
my dreams. Hours were poured into training and sacrifices made simply for a perfect race to the
podium. I had arrived 3 hours earlier, and to my dismay that the competition had been delayed. My
parents hid their apparent annoyance, in hope that the long wait would prove its worth, yet only to find
out it actually was not. The long wait took its toil on me and panic overcame me at the starting blocks.
In a field of 8 swimmers, the number 8 flashed brightly against my name, glistening tears welled up in
my eyes as failure washed over me.
I hated that part of Swimming. It washed away hours and years of work and sacrifices, dashed the big
dreams of a 10 year old, and failed high expectations laid bare for all to see. I hated Swimming for its

In that sense, perfectionism is like a drug, an insidious poison that infiltrates every part of me. A self
induced madness that one moment raises me to the pinnacle of elation, and the next drags me to the
darkest recesses of frustration and disappointment. Sometimes I think I would trade up almost
anything for one more hit of that pleasure, almost completely regardless of the consequence.
Everyone has a side of him or her that may ultimately lead to their downfall. Mine is, of no doubt, my
obsession with perfection. It is a question I face with on a daily basis: How far am I willing to go to
attain that perfection, to turn my ideals into reality?
At then, for most, the answer to the question is simple: As far as I want to. For me, the answer was
even simpler, though much complicated: All the way. Even if it means giving up the things that should
matter the most, I guess I was blinded looking through the lenses of

chemistry lab paper sherlock holmes experiment
Our objective for the Sherlock Holmes Experiment was to illustrate that some chemicals can be
identified or differentiated by simple chemical tests, such as solubility, pH, or color tests. In our group
we had to test come common powders such as Alka Seltzer, baking soda, flour, Vitamin C (ascorbic
acid), and salt. Other chemicals that were used to do this experiment were vinegar, and Iodine 2
Solution. The equipment used to do this experiment was red litmus paper, and 5 test tubes per group.
After all materials were gathered, we then had to do five different tests to determine what the powder
material does. The first test was to see what the powder materials do in water. We had to add a scoop
of each of the common powders to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Vitamin C turned to a red/orange color with no physical/chemical reaction. For the salt the
solution turned to an orange color with no physical/chemical reaction. With the Alka Seltzer, the
solution turned to a brown color with no reaction as well. Last but not least, the Baking soda turned to
an orange/brown color with no reaction.
In the last test, we had to test out a mystery powder (powder A, B, C), in its own separate test tube, in
order to solve the Sherlock Holmes Mystery. Our group had powder C. When we mixed water in the
mystery powder, it did not dissolve. When the litmus paper was put into the test tube it turned blue.
When the vinegar was mixed it bubbled/foamed up. When we mixed the iodine solution, there was no
reaction and the solution turned to a dark brown/black color. When we mixed in the baking soda there
was no reaction and it turned to an even darker color. In conclusion, after we had tested the mystery
powder, we had to solve the mystery of who stole Jamal Jackson s iPad. There were four suspects
which were, Ruby, Ima, Manly, and Beau, who were seen at the time the iPad disappeared. I then
cancelled out all the common powders that had no comparison to the mystery powder. The flour,
vitamin C, and salt did not have any comparison which left only the Alka Seltzer and the baking soda.
The comparisons of the Alka Seltzer and the baking soda were very similar. They were just about the
same as the mystery powder. So I then

Confucius Lives Next Door
Confucius Lives Next Door is a book containing the similarities and differences of the east and west.
Not only does this book contain similarities and differences, but it also contains historic and modern
day facts about Confucius and the Antalects. The main reason for the author writing this book was to
write how Confucius has influenced the population in the east in the past, and today. The book
describes how the Antalects are still part of modern education.
The quote I chose for this paragraph is in chapter 4, page 105. The quote says A true gentleman is
made, not born, says the master . The paragraph is talking about gentleman, and how one becomes a
gentleman. I agree with this statement, because when someone; boy or girl, is born, they don t
automatically open doors for others. They have to be taught how to respect people, and if the parent or
guardian does not do that, the child has to teach itself. They look at how other people act and choose
to be nice, polite and respectful, or rude and dishonest. This makes me feel happy, because the author
is stating what I believe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quote is very long, so instead of typing the whole paragraph, I will type the part that caught my
attention. This says in other words, people feel the need to try not to do anything that might bother
other people . This caught my attention because I wish people in the west would consider this every
time they do something rude. I am not saying that everyone in the west is like this, but many people
are. When someone starts being unruly and loud in a quiet place, they are being selfish. That person is
bothering other people, and that is what people in the east try to avoid. Everyday confrontations, will
still happen, but imagine how calm the world would be if everyone were to think of that

An Analysis Of The Banjo By Louis Gottschalk
To recover from the storm, I select The Banjo by Louis Gottschalk as my next piece. In contrast to the
fierce thunderstorm in Moonlight s third movement, Banjo is full of cheerful and light hearted
melodies. As if a sunshower, the music refreshes our mind and energizes our spirit.
Staccato, one of the most remarkable characteristics in this piece, brings energy to the entire music. In
the subject line of the A section (this piece has a five part A B A B A form), the melody of the left hand
purely consists of staccatos whose short, bouncing feature opens up a dynamic theme., This dynamic
is further expressed as the piece enters B section, since the high pitched notes have more
distinguishable sounds and a more rapid speed. This movement then culminates at five major chords
whose high pitch and strong, sharp volume produce an extraordinarily penetrating sound. All these
movements delineates a playful scene of rain dancing at every corner of the world: on a roof, a stream,
an umbrella, a petal of flower, etc. By reflecting sunlight, every drop of rain looks like a shining
crystal that illuminates the surroundings and illuminates our heart.
Another interesting point of this piece is the use of an old music, Capetown Races. Capetown Races
resembles the tune of nursery rhymes and introduces an innocent, childlike sense. In The Banjo, the
main melody of the old song comes from the right hand region and are expressed through octave
chords. As the main melody repeats, the notes

The Influences In Ambrose Bierce s Life
Ambrose Bierce, a civil war veteran and famous American writer, is most known for his book the
devils dictionary, in which he spoke out about the many things he disagreed with like politics and
wars. Most of his stories are very influenced by the time he spent in the war. He is best known for his
very cynical and sardonic outlook on human life, and was nicknamed bitter Bierce because of that.
The two biggest things in Bierce s life which influenced his writing were his childhood and the civil
war. Growing up Ambrose and his family lived in Meigs County, Ohio. His family was very old
fashioned and religious, however Ambrose did not agree with their ways and would often rebel against
them which would only result in him getting whipped, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fire and as he runs towards it to find his mother but instead he sees her outside on the ground with a
pale face and her forehead torn away, she had been shot and killed as he tries to scream he lets out a
horrible sound which Ambrose describes as a startling soulless, unholy sound, the language of the
devil which meant the boy was a deaf mute boy. The story is meant to portray the violence if war and
the horrible reality of it. It s an anti war story that explains the horrors and response of a small
innocent child who is stuck in between the battle, but it also portraits how the people who are not
directly affected by the war reacted because in the beginning of the story the boy sees the soldiers as
funny and doesn t pay much attention and instead of being horrified he is delighted and even tries to
play along and lead them with his sword, but in the end he realizes the true gravity of what was
happening. Chickamauga encourages the readers to reevaluate and have a deeper understanding of

T.S Eliot
From His Life to the Page T. S. Eliot s work was greatly influenced by his life. There was a basic
pattern in his works that corresponded with the events in his life. This pattern brought about many
changes and phases in his poetry. Even Eliot s attitude was reflected in his work. A quote from T. S.
Eliot: The Man and His Work states, Eliot was a man with the highest standards in his poetry, his
critisism, and his behavior to others. ( Spender 34). Perhaps much of this can be attributed to his birth
toward the end of the Victorian Era. Eliot s background also had a major effect on his writing style. He
was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 26, 1888. Though Eliot was born in America, he spent
much of his life in England. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eliot published many religious works including Idea of a Christian Society. The plays that Eliot wrote
in this period reflected a spiritual content as well as many journeys and tasks. His works also became
more political. He spoke of how corrupt and apathetic the new age had become. His new political
views were probably sparked from his life as a British citizen. Analyzation of Eliot s life provides
great insight on why his writing was divided into these four periods. Eliot s demeanor was also
evident in his work. Many said that Eliot often had a very serious look about him. He was very
sophisticated in his speech and actions, and when he was humorous, it was in a very strange way. He
often would make remarks that made very little sense. Both sides of his personality showed up in his
work. Most of his writing was serious in nature, but sometimes it was amusing such as his Old
Possum s Book of Practical Cats. Many people know of this work because the very popular musical
Cats was based on it. Both of these were filled with nonsense humor. Eliot s influences made a huge
impact on his writing. He was completely immersed in the works from Greek and Roman literature, as
well as modern and medieval Europe. Eliot also greatly love the Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam. Much of
this influence was evident in the work. One of Eliot s greatest influences was Ezra Pound. Eliot met
Ezra Pound in 1914, and that meeting proved to be of great significance to Eliot s writing career. Ezra

The Theoretical Themes Of Herbert Marcuse s Eros And...
The theoretical themes of Herbert Marcuse s Eros and Civilisation and One Dimensional Man have
roots in both Marx and Freud s theories. In explaining the existence of society, Marcuse shows how
the motivations of the individual maintain the social world, but are shaped by structural forces.
Through extension of Marx s argument and the application of Freud s psychology, Marcuse explains
how the creation of the one dimensional man maintains order and suppresses resistance. Yet, the
revolution Marx envisages could be a possibility, once liberated from one dimensional thought. Both
micro and macro social analysis is used by Marcuse, without attempting to create a meta theory.
Providing a Marxist critique of society, Marcuse argues for human choice and compliance within
existing social structures.
Through the discussion of socialisation , repressive desublimation and surplus repression this essay
will demonstrate how Marcuse s theoretical approach was influenced by classical theorists Marx and
Freud, as well as consideration of the key debate in sociology regarding the primacy of structural
forces or personal agency in understanding and explaining the social world. This can subsequently be
traced to contemporary theorists, notably, Giddens development of structuration theory and Archer s
understanding of society as a reflexive ongoing process.
In response to Freud s Civilisation and Its Discontents (1941), Marcuse s Eros and Civilisation (1969)
argues for a liberated, or

Examples Of Persona Of The Masses In The Great Gatsby
Persona of the Masses On weekends his Rolls Royce became an omnibus bearing parties to and from
the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a
brisk yellow bug to meet all trains (39). Certainly, few knew the authentic Jay Gatsby from the novel
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. People thought they could fathom him, but countless were
fabricated lies. Copious amounts of people in our society progress through life like this also. Never
showing who they genuinely are because of shame or even fear of not being accepted by others.
Gatsby represents in our society, how people put on a persona to be likeable to the masses.
Gatsby was a household name around New York at the time of the era in the book. Everyone knew of
his extravagant parties and his mansion, of sorts. By midnight the hilarity had increased. A celebrated
tenor had sung in Italian, and a notorious contralto had sung in jazz, and between the numbers people
were doing stunts all over the garden, while happy, vacuous bursts of laughter rose toward the summer
sky (46). The parties threw by Gatsby were a rage, he threw all theses flashy parties just so maybe,
Daisy would come and she would notice how rich he is. In society now people try to obtain all the
new clothes, cars, the newest iPhone even. We ve been taught if you don t have all theses things then
you won t be accepted. An outcast, and you don t want that right? So we have accomplished theses

Rosalind Franklin s Accomplishments
From the 1940s to the 1950s, there was a scientific discovery that scientist all over the world were
trying to figure out. Rosalind Franklin, a women in science, was competing to discover the structure of
DNA. During her career she had worked in England and France, facing many difficulties because she
was a women in science. She had more difficulties in England because the gender gap was much
larger than in France where she was looked at more of an equal than a lesser. During Rosalind
Franklin s entire career she was always competing with scientist all over the world, but sometimes she
didn t know that she was competing or racing to discover something before someone else because she
was a woman in science, where gender had played a role on the information they receive even though
science is supposed to be an open communal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rosalind Franklin s career was affected in many ways due to the gender gap in science. At King s
College, in England, she was at a disadvantage in her work because she was excluded from something
so simple as eating lunch on premises, The male staff at Kings launched in large, comfortable, rather
clubby dining room, though the females of any age or distinction, launched either in student halls or
off premises (Sayre, pg. 97). Franklin had missed all of the informal conversations that took place
during lunch, which may not seem like a big deal but it was. Not being able to talk about her research
and listening to other people s research could have stopped her from maybe realizing something she
was doing wrong or maybe someone would give her feedback. At the time, women were not respected
through all of England because they were women. Watson calls Rosalind Rosy , which by giving her a
nickname and not calling her by her full name shows he has no respect for her. He describes her as
termagant...she refuses to emphasize her female

Berwick Essay
The country of origin for products found in the shops of Berwick are distributed in an uneven pattern
with distinct regional clusters. The biggest import trading countries in the world would be those in
Asia, with a total of 46 out of the 81 products coming from countries within. More specifically coming
from the countries in south, east and south east Asia, mostly from China and no products are imported
from north or west Asia. I think we get majority of our imports from the south, east and south east s
they are the closest countries to Australia and hence resulting in less travel time and money. Oceania
would be the second biggest source of the goods, with a total of 19 out of the total 81 products. Out of

The products of which the countries in Asia supply tend to be stuff like shoes, homewares, clothes,
toys and electronics. I think Asia supplies majority of the goods as many companies have their
factories in China. This may be due to the fact that Chinese are flexible with their work. When
someone is flexible with their work it means that they will work long hours and take very little breaks
for little money as well, saving the company money and time. This does not happen in many countries
as it is against the law for people, depending on their age, to work for too many hours in one day and
for every so many hours they have to have a break of some form. Another reason as to why we get so
many imports from Asia could be because they are the closest continent to Australia and hence don t
have to pay as much for transport. On the other hand, we do not get any products from the countries in
Africa. This would be partly because they are in debt to other countries and because in order to get
their products to Australia not only do they have to pay for transport, but also for tariffs in order to get
their products into Australia; this is an import tax. On top of this, they are becoming even more
bankrupt due to the digital divide, where other rich countries can afford to buy new technology and
equipment, countries in Africa cannot, putting them even further behind as other countries

Lenses of Education
Education is a main factor that Socrates discusses throughout his trial in the Apology and in Meno.
One of the main factors discussed in both texts are the role of teachers in society and if Socrates is a
teacher. Socrates also relates past stories or experiences when giving his dialogues. This allows him to
explain his thoughts and reasons on certain topics. One final factor that plays a role in both the
Apology and Meno is the role of the gods through the dialogues. Teachers, stories, and the role of
gods all play a key role in the Apology and Meno as Socrates attempts to explain and expand upon his
views of education.
In the Apology Socrates states that he is not a teacher because he does not charge a fee, such as
Gorgias or Leontini do (pg. 24, 19 d e). Socrates does not consider himself a teacher because he does
not charge a fee, and he also does not preach what he does not know. According to Socrates, those
who have obtained great knowledge in certain subjects such as politics or poetry often come to the
conclusion that they have knowledge about everything and therefore can teach about anything the
choose (pg. 27, 23b). However, Socrates believes he is wiser than most because he does not preach
what he does not know. Rather, he looks for those who do know the answers and then questions them
to understand their thoughts about the topic. Thus, Socrates gains his education from questioning
rather than pretending just as Meno points this out in the Meno.

Islam and Great Sectarian Divide
Bottom of Form *
Brothers at war
FOR two sects united by their belief in one Maker, one Book and one Prophet, the amount of blood
spilt in the name of their respective faiths by Shias and Sunnis is truly staggering. This is specially so
when one considers the tiny differences that define and divide them.
Since the earliest days of Islam in the 7th century when the schism first tore the young Muslim
community apart, the two sects have been warring incessantly. Untold thousands have been killed over
the years, and this internecine war continues to devastate communities and nations.
I am not qualified to go into the rights and wrongs of this old conflict. However, as a student ... Show

Now the shoe is on the other foot, and it is the minority Sunnis under the Shia heel. In Syria, the
minority Alewites have ruled since the Seventies. In Sunni Saudi Arabia, the Shias are marginalised.
The list goes on, but one thing is clear: both sects harbour deep distrust of each other. Indeed, in a
recent Pew Institute survey on attitudes in the Muslim world, only 53 per cent of those surveyed in
Pakistan considered Shias to be Muslims. This figure is even lower in several other Muslim countries.
There is similar doubt on the other side, with many Shias casting doubt on Sunni beliefs. So clearly,
time has only sharpened this schism, rather than healing old wounds.
But while more often than not, these tensions are limited to neighbourhoods and nations, the
emergence of a Shia theocracy in Iran has taken these differences to a new level.
Although mediaeval Islam saw states engaging in sectarian warfare, this tendency was later
suppressed in modern times, as we have just discussed. However, although the Iran Iraq war was
fought over territorial claims and counter claims, overtly sectarian symbolism was deployed by both
sides.
And when the Americans invaded Iraq in 2003, the ruling Baath Party was ousted, and the minority
Sunnis displaced from power. This led to a Shia revival, and a major gain in Iranian influence. Indeed,
the US led campaign was widely viewed in the Middle East as

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Jv and Ws
1. Introduction The aim of this essay is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of setting up a
wholly owned subsidiary (WOS) instead of a joint venture (JV). There are numerous studies and
research papers done on which entry mode is best in different situations, but there is no simple task
deciding which is the best unless one can see into the future. JV and WOS are two completely
different entry modes with their distinct down and upsides. Entering a new market gives both great
opportunities and involves high risk. There is much at stake but if one choose wrong entry mode it can
cost the company tremendously, that is why one should not take this decision based on a few factors.

If both companies in the partnership feel it is a win win situation the chance for success is bigger, and
if they fail the cost will not be as devastating, the amount of risk is at a minimum compared to a WOS
(Morschet, Schramm Klein, Zentes, 2010). 2.4 The disadvantages of JVs Being partners is not always
easy, and it takes time and a lot of effort to build up a strong relationship between two companies.
There are many uncertainties around partnerships, the partner can have a hidden agenda and have an
opportunistic behavior (Aswathappa, 2010). The goal or objective for the partnership can be unclear
and makes it difficult to know when they have succeeded. If there is an unbalance in the level of
investment, effort or expertise the other partner can feel they are not getting what they expected. Many
get caught up in endless conflicts, and often these issues are based on cultural differences. Most of
these problems are management issues, but sometimes the company s management can agree on every
point but the employers do not get enough information (businesslink.gov.uk). Without thorough
research and effective communication the employers can start to working against the integration. 3.
Discussion Setting up a WOS or JV can be a difficult choice but by doing a solid market research and
an intern research of their own company the choice should be easier. If a company want to enter a

Developmental Disabilities Research Paper
Developmental Disabilities
Developmental disabilities include several types of conditions due to impairment in physical, learning,
language, or behavior areas. These conditions usually begin during the developmental period, may
impact daily functioning, and most of the time last throughout a person s lifetime. Most developmental
disabilities begin before a baby is born, but can also happen after birth due to injury, infection, or other
risk factors. It is very important that the mother takes care of herself during her pregnancy to prevent
or reduce the chances for her baby developing a disability. All the different types of developmental
disabilities will be explained and discussed throughout the research paper.
As previously stated most developmental disabilities are caused by a mix of factors. These factors
include genetics, parental health and behaviors such as smoking and drinking during pregnancy,
complications during birth, or infections the mother might have during the pregnancy or the baby
might have very early in life. For some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Motif Of Entrapment By Edith Wharton
Executive Order 9066, passed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1942, forced all Japanese
Americans to pack up their lives and move to internment camps, a place where they would live in
shabby barracks and get treated unfairly by guards. This order confineded the American citizens in
heinous camps for up to three years. Because of their heritage, which could be as little as one sixteenth
Japanese, the citizens were obligated to move; they became trapped in these camps where unhappiness
was present in every aspect of life. Similarly, in the novel Ethan Frome, the title character is trapped in
his unhappy life due to marriage, family, property, and financial liabilities. The author, Edith Wharton
uses the motif of entrapment to prove how obligations lead to unhappiness throughout the novel.
Ethan Frome and his wife, Zenobia (Zeena), never really know what true love feels like because they
are both very lonely people. They meet when Zeena is caring for Ethan s mother; due to their
loneliness, they mistake the bizarre feeling of companionship for love. Ethan marries Zeena, not
because he is in love, but because he does not want to be alone and he feels like he owes it to her for
everything she is doing for him. She is aware of this and claims, ...you grudged me the money to get
back my health, when I lost it nursing your own mother! And my folks all told me at the time you
couldn t do no less than marry me after (Wharton 83). In addition to Zeena saying that Ethan

Assessing Secular Temperature Trends in Hawaiʻi

(Draft) MA Thesis Proposal
By
Marie Maile McKenzie
Department of Geography
University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa
Abstract Large scale, global temperature analyses and climate change models may sometimes
oversimplify or generalize smaller, regional trends. Only until a few years ago, efforts on climate
change projections for island scale has intensified for more reliable assessments of various impacts of
long term climate trends (Hamilton, 2014). Temperature changes over Hawaiʻi are expected to exceed
the current daily maximum values by the end of the 21st century (Lauer et al., 2013). Mountainous
tropical islands in the Hawaiian archipelago are showing greater warming than the lower elevations
(Giambelluca et al. 2008; Diaz et al. 2011, 2014). Observed surface air temperature trends can also be
used to test regionally downscaled climate models. The goal of this thesis is to analyze climate data to
assess possible trends that are likely to impact future management of summit ecosystems. This
research is essential to the effective protection and restoration of these fragile alpine and subalpine
ecosystems. The primary focus of this research is to expand on and update the previous analysis by
Giambelluca et al. (2008) by extending the data set from 2006 through to 2014 15 in order to: (a)
develop a revised Hawaiʻi Temperature Index to include the more recent data; (b) assess changes that

The Origin Of The Land
Enticingly, the Spanish colonists came to this land with a passionate goal to develop the land and
extract its natural resources for their profit. To this day, the Spanish s action on this land has brought
prosperity and has propagated California to be the leading roles in the innovation of new technologies
and the production of movies. Despite of having this reputation, people seldom discuss on the origin
of the land. When the Spanish came, the Indian are the inhabitants of the land; ruling the land and
surviving with all the natural resource. As history is depicted by the victor, the fate of the right owner
of the land has always been untold. Their once peaceful time had ceased to continue as the Spanish
colonized and stole the land from the Indian. Trickeries and militaries were used by the colonists to
exploit the land for their benefits. The Indian population begin to decline as the newcomers were
[gobbling] up native foods and undermined the free or gentile tribes efforts to remain economically
independent and the outbreak epidemic of European diseases had declined 60% of the population of
mission Indians (Castillo). To not disremember the suffering of their people, poems like Indian

capture their heart breaking moments and to disclose their suffering to the world, but both poems have

Causes Of Violence In The French Revolution Essay
How much violence is justified to achieve goals of a nation?
Throughout history, brave people have stood up for their country against oppressive regimes. These
revolutions are often unique in not only how they are led, but also the amount of bloodshed and
damage to the country left behind. The French Revolution is often discussed by scholars because it is
not only one of the most important events of modern history, but it is also one of the most absurd. It is
a perfect display of how power can damage the values of individuals, no matter their intelligence or so
called moral superiority . What started as an uprising of the commoners against the monarchy who had
dictated their lives of squalor ended up becoming a tense war. Former allies were pitted against each
other, resulting in over sixteen thousand deaths via guillotine. Even today, people still debate whether
the end result, France gaining universal human rights and other benefits, justified the violent means.
The French Revolution was a result of the system of Estates instated by the monarchy leaving the
common people, or Third Estate, in terrible living conditions. The system was designed so that
aristocrats, the clergy, and the monarch were guaranteed two thirds of all votes in their favour,
meaning that commoners were left without a way to achieve change. The nobility lived in blissful
ignorance, enjoying sumptuous feasts and privileges such as the rights to hunt, wear swords, and own
fiefs. Meanwhile,

Opposing The Legalization of Marijuana Essay
If marijuana was legal, back yard marijuana gardens would be in every neighborhood, thus kids would
be able to get it as easy as taking fruit off a neighbor s tree (Johnathan Greens). According to the
National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 62.2 percent of the 14.2 billion people who used marijuana
for the first time in one day were under the age of 18 years back in 2003. This increases by nearly 1.3
percent every year. This has become a problem due to Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) being the active
ingredient in marijuana that can become dangerous if one should take advantage of its use by either
smoking it or abusing it in its capsule/tablet form (Barr). Marijuana has been legalized for medical

With todays technology, alcohol Breathalyzer tests are given within seconds of pulling someone over
and the results are almost immediate. As for a marijuana text that would have to be developed, the
results will not be as immediate because drug tests for marijuana that are given today take up to weeks
to receive back in order for the suspect to be positive or negative. These procedures that the
government would like to take control of would be nearly impossible.
If marijuana were to be legalized, there would be no way to control its developed public smoking
habits because anyone who is around marijuana smoke has a great chance of having a contact buzz
whether you want one or not. The public indecency of getting a contact buzz from others smoke would
lead to many unnecessary lawsuits. Many of us do not want to have to worry about getting high when
walking into a store. Parents and legal guardians of children that are not old enough to make decisions
themselves will be pressured even more than they are in school today because their parents may be
smoking around them in and outside of their homes.
A way that America is currently trying consider making it legal is for medicinal purposes only. States
such as Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico,
Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington allow medical cannabis legal. The active ingredients

Functional Theory In American History X
In the 1998 film American History X, Derek Vineyard is paroled after serving 3 years in prison for
brutally murdering two black men who were breaking into his truck. Through his Brother Danny s
narration of a paper he is writing, it is learned that Derek was the leader of a large Neo Nazi group
known as D.O.C., or Disciples of Christ, that committed many acts of racial crime throughout Los
Angeles. During his time in prison Derek decides that hate is a waste of time after being violently
raped by fellow white supremacists, and his only friend being a black man, who was only in prison for
a misunderstanding. After getting out on parole, Derek learns that Danny is headed down the same
racist path as him, and decided that he must put a stop to it. Throughout this film there are many
examples of the five theories of deviance; Functional, Conflict, Labeling, Broken Windows, and
Differential Association. From Derek s initial exposure to racism, all the way to him deciding to
change, all five theories are exemplified through Derek, Danny, their Father, Cameron, or the D.O.C.
as a whole. To being, this movie shows Functional Theory by clarifying rules, bringing groups
together, and eventually promoting social change. By Derek being sent to prison, it sets an example
for not only Danny, but the entire gang, that being a Neo Nazi is wrong. While no one heads the
warning, it does show them that their actions could land them in jail. Additionally, it also clarified

Descriptive Essay On Canada Day
I think they call it Canada Day. A holiday in the middle of summer not unlike Independence Day in
the United States. On this occasion, I happened to be visiting friends in Tete Juene Cache, British
Columbia, several hundred miles into the interior. Tete Jeune was the French word for Yellow Head .
The name, like the town itself, was a vivid reminder of the not so long ago gold rush days. Fewer than
a thousand residents hid in the forests and canyons of this small settlement that clung to the western
edge of the Canadian Rockies. My friends Chuck Gail had settled here just the year before, buying an
old homestead that included one hundred and sixty acres of fields and woodlands at the foot of Mica
Mountain. Now from the mountain, flowed a creed of the same name, the actual disposition of, was
sometimes that of a well healed river in spring, often a mere trickle in summer. On this hot Sunday in
July however, new friends and families were arriving at Chuck Gail s every moment. A holiday picnic
had been planned in front of the farmhouse. Tables had been set up; barbecue pits ignited, croquet
mallets waited. Howard the Monk arrived early, bringing with him a pot of still warm baked beans.
Howard the Monk, was a man whose true vocation was still under a fair amount of speculation.
Rumors had him placed in the States during the Vietnam conflict. He wore a long traditional brown
robe with a thick braided rope tied at his waist. He had a great image in the wintertime. As I

The Great Debate
The Great Debate: Science vs Religion
The relationship between religion and science has been a subject to numerous debates, earning its
place in multiple forums and dominating the news. Disputes arise because science and religion are two
very different disciplines. For instance, science is ultimately based on observation of nature while
religion is largely based on faith. Conflicts between the two have existed for hundreds of years and
will continue to do so, because of their different concepts of truth . Nevertheless, reaching a consensus
between science and religion is generally impossible and difficult to achieve, because each are certain
of the validity of their own beliefs.
Undoubtedly, cloning is one of the many disagreements between science and religion that raise many

However, the two do not necessarily repel each other, the meeting point is in a person s perspective.
Religion without science degenerates into superstition, while science without the help of religion gives
rise to materialism and lack of faith. Science, to speak the truth, has only purified and strengthens the
work of religion, whereas religion gives a certain line that prevents science from becoming inhumane
and brutal. The same can be said about the controversial issue of cloning. Advocates state that cloning
improves the overall quality of science and life, while critics stress over the clone s possible problems
dealing with their emotional health and self worth. There is no simple way to resolve the conflicts
between them, and reaching a consensus is generally impossible. However, the relationship between
science and religion can be seen as partners not enemies, as described by Martin Luther King Jr. when
he stated, Science investigates and religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge which is power.

This is because, having passed the age where children learn things in a simple way, Genie would not

their environment in a simple way like when they were in the childhood. Therefore it requires time
more time for them learn and effectively interact with the environment. I would handle Irene s with
more special care and at the same time being more observant to identify any possible development.
This is because, having experience untold harm, Genie s rehabilitation and care to a normal person
would require extra attention and a step by step evaluation.
Since Genie, demonstrated no sense of personality, leave alone that of sexuality, I would apply the
slow approach to get Genie learn the environment. This would enable her effectively discover things
by herself through experience. When Genie was eighteen years old, she still had a lot of difficulty in
learning basic aspects of life. As a researcher, I would have located her to an appropriate environment,
probably a rehabilitation center where she would start to learn by discovering things by her own. The
handling of the Genie s case was subjected into three big mistakes. Firstly, the psychologist who
developed as attention to study her case placed her in an appropriate position and condition. As she
was already a severe victim, Genie would have

Reading Comprehension As An Intermediate Level
Reading Comprehension Jennifer told me that she is able to understand only the basics of English, but
she is not able to understand big/difficult words. She does not like to read and she does not read too
often. Jennifer only reads when she needs to read in school, but she does not read outside school. As
far as I know, she is not doing well in the class and she is been getting F s since she started the school
year. Her tests scores have been very low and one reason it could be that she does not comprehend
everything that she is reading. Due to the low scores, I would also consider her reading
comprehension as an Intermediate level because she understands the basics.
Listening Comprehension Jennifer does not have a good listening comprehension since she does not
understand the lecture. The teacher always needs to give her time during class because she does not
understand all the material. She says that she understands better when she reads than when she is
listening. Again, I would consider that her listening comprehension level is Intermediate.
Informal, Every Day language From my point of view, Jennifer uses more informal language in her
every day life. I think that her academic English vocabulary is not complex. For instance,
Young people that use social media or any other type of activity such as texting, tagging, and
computer games tend to learn what is called the slang language. Many teenagers abbreviate words or
most of the time they make the words shorter.

I believe that it is important to realize that a strategic alliance or partnership is solely depended on trust and faith in the relationship between all involved in simultaneous stages should not change or use those stages for their own advantage without consideration of the organization involved. Some of the advantages would be: Developing competences and learning form the partners Suitability and protection of resources is maintained Developing low cost models hence financial benefit Each partner can concentrate on different stages of the supply 2. Material manager deals with the tangible components of a supply chain covering the acquisition and replacement of parts, quality control of purchasing and ordering parts, and the standards involved in ordering, shipping, and warehousing those parts. I think in this case, it would be beneficial for the company to hire one; it would consolidate all aspects of the supply chain and better the communication between all the departments involved. 5. Should Glass build up her inventories? I don t think it s just a matter of building up the inventory. All you are doing there is trading the cost of higher freight bills for the cost of keeping a larger inventory. It s not just building the inventory, its accurately building the inventory through better forecasting. Case Study # 3 Pacific Healthcare 1. What alternatives should Barney Rubble consider when addressing the problem? It is clear that there are several cheaper options than Kodak. The problem is that Kodak also furnishes X ray equipment at a lower price, including maintenance and service because of the single supplier agreement they have with Pacific. So while he may save on film by going with a cheaper option, he may have to pay more for the equipment service and maintenance. These are all things Mr. Rubble should consider. 2. • 3. Customer Service Quality At Comcast Corporation Essay Customer Service Quality Lack of good quality customer service can have a negative impact on any company, from fast food restaurants to large corporations with call centers. Looking at Comcast Corporation as a specific example of poor customer service quality, we will identify the source of the negative impact and provide different options for improvement of quality within the call center. Comcast Corporation started out as a small cable company and grew tremendously to the number one company in internet and cable providers. This growth is directly correlated to the risks CEO Brian Roberts has taken throughout the years such as buying smaller cable companies, successfully acquiring investors to back the corporation, and at times learning from past mistakes. With a company this big, problems are going to arise, but at what cost does a lack of quality in the customer service department ultimately bring? Bad news travels a lot faster than good news, but if a company already stands in the number one position, is upper management truly concerned? Business Insider s article The 15 Worse Companies for Customer Service rated Comcast #4. The second lowest ranked cable service. (Nisen, 2013) This refers to the television service alone, however, both internet and cable received low scores. Comcast has lost hundreds of thousands of TV subscribers, due to online streaming of shows with the use of Hulu and Netflix. Would a high quality of customer service give customers the ... • 4. Persuasive Essay On Bigfoot Bigfoot (or Sasquatch ) is a tall, dark haired cryptid humanoid that has become a mystery to the American people. Unfortunately, many believe that the furry beast is simply a hoax, while others know what they saw in the mysterious forest. Based on countless discoveries, Bigfoot has existed at some point. Considering the proof presented by dedicated Bigfoot scientists and fans, totally debunking the controversial topic of Bigfoot would seem ignorant. Perhaps people are not digging deep enough to find the creature. The quest began when Bigfoot was captured on film for the first time by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin. In the year of 1967, the two men were out in a remote mountainous location in Northern California. After Patterson heard about the tracks found near Bluff Creek, he was determined to make a documentary about the mysteries of the Sasquatch. Buoyant, he rented a 16mm movie camera and went to the area in question with his comrade, Bob Gimlin. He caught the beast on camera casually strolling through an open clearing, staring at Patterson filming while continuing to walk. The film became known as the Patterson Gimlin film. According to Animal Planet, The Patterson Gimlin film is widely regarded as one of the strongest pieces of evidence for the existence of Sasquatches, ( The Patterson Gimlin footage ). One of Catherine s contributions was the construction of many lavish buildings in France which she donated to the French public. This is clearly seen when comparing the heroes in the stories of Beowulf, Cuchulainn s Boyhood Deeds, Lanval, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. For example, Beowulf and Cuchulainn both share traits of a hero; however, have drastic dissimilarities. The answer is no, we can t just watch the movie because the book has many major details that the movie does not include. For our age, reading the book will have a major impact on our life ahead, how we look at the world, and how we look at others. Some of us may be unhappy that we are reading the book and not just watching the movie, but we need to realize, that not only with The Hobbit but with all movies, they are vastly different from the books. The writing experience that is the most memorable to me is in my freshman year of high school at University High School in Orange City, Florida. I wrote a short story called Speech to Roseanne . This story was about a young southern female teenager who was just starting high school. During the previous summer time, she had a major dispute that happened between herself and best friend, Roseanne. This dispute carried over to the start of their freshman year in high school. In the end of the story, despite the fact that Roseanne tried to apologize for the comments she made about Mel Bell s family, Mel Bell could not get past what her formal ... This is shown by the conflict between Mel Bell and Roseanne having a disagreement that they could never get pass and also Mel Bell living in regret because she could not forgive her friend for the mistake. Everyone goes through some type of conflict with a family member or a friend that is extremely close to us. Another positive constraint that this story possessed is owning up to self choices. This is shown through the character Mel Bell because at the end of the story she goes to Roseanne s funeral and she asks for Roseanne s forgiven. Mel Bell realizes that Roseanne apologized before her tragic death because she as well wanted to own up to her mistake of belittling her best friend s family. Some negative constraints about the short story are that it targets a specific type of reader. Because I made this for my freshman year of high school, thusly, the message is more tailored to the audience of that time. Secondly, the overall message was a bit more novice in writing rather than more recent writings. These shortcomings attribute to the short story s negative constraints. When I turned in my short story to my teacher I ended up getting a A on my paper. I was very pleased with my grade. But most importantly, I was more impressed with my dedication towards writing this paper. There were times that I could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Archetypes Used In William Blake s Poetry William Blake was one of the most influential writers to come from the romantic period. Writers and artists who rose from this time period were more free spirited and focused more on philosophy than religion. LIke many from his time, William Blake wrote about society and nature; what was in his heart. All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my heart is all my own (Wolfgang von Goethe). This statement represents the way of thinking in the romantic era, writes such as Blake wrote what was in their own hearts. Blake is most well known for his use of archetypes in his writings. (Page 748 Line 1) The archetypes in this poem represent the idea of innocence. The idea of innocence comes from Blake s Songs of innocence and songs of experience. In contradiction, William Blake s poem, The Tyger, shows the use of archetypes through the tyger. The tyger, himself, is a symbol for anger, power, and strength. Hours were poured into training and sacrifices made simply for a perfect race to the podium. I had arrived 3 hours earlier, and to my dismay that the competition had been delayed. My parents hid their apparent annoyance, in hope that the long wait would prove its worth, yet only to find out it actually was not. The long wait took its toil on me and panic overcame me at the starting blocks. In a field of 8 swimmers, the number 8 flashed brightly against my name, glistening tears welled up in my eyes as failure washed over me. I hated that part of Swimming. Not only does this book contain similarities and differences, but it also contains historic and modern day facts about Confucius and the Antalects. The main reason for the author writing this book was to write how Confucius has influenced the population in the east in the past, and today. The book describes how the Antalects are still part of modern education. The quote I chose for this paragraph is in chapter 4, page 105. The quote says A true gentleman is made, not born, says the master . The paragraph is talking about gentleman, and how one becomes a gentleman. I agree with this statement, because when someone; boy or girl, is born, they don t automatically open doors for others. They have to be taught how to respect people, and if the parent or guardian does not do that, the child has to teach itself. • 15. An Analysis Of The Banjo By Louis Gottschalk To recover from the storm, I select The Banjo by Louis Gottschalk as my next piece. In contrast to the fierce thunderstorm in Moonlight s third movement, Banjo is full of cheerful and light hearted melodies. As if a sunshower, the music refreshes our mind and energizes our spirit. Staccato, one of the most remarkable characteristics in this piece, brings energy to the entire music. In the subject line of the A section (this piece has a five part A B A B A form), the melody of the left hand purely consists of staccatos whose short, bouncing feature opens up a dynamic theme., This dynamic is further expressed as the piece enters B section, since the high pitched notes have more distinguishable sounds and a more rapid speed. This movement then culminates at five major chords whose high pitch and strong, sharp volume produce an extraordinarily penetrating sound. All these movements delineates a playful scene of rain dancing at every corner of the world: on a roof, a stream, an umbrella, a petal of flower, etc. By reflecting sunlight, every drop of rain looks like a shining crystal that illuminates the surroundings and illuminates our heart. Another interesting point of this piece is the use of an old music, Capetown Races. Capetown Races resembles the tune of nursery rhymes and introduces an innocent, childlike sense. In The Banjo, the main melody of the old song comes from the right hand region and are expressed through octave chords. As the main melody repeats, the notes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This pattern brought about many changes and phases in his poetry. Even Eliot s attitude was reflected in his work. A quote from T. S. Eliot: The Man and His Work states, Eliot was a man with the highest standards in his poetry, his critisism, and his behavior to others. ( Spender 34). Perhaps much of this can be attributed to his birth toward the end of the Victorian Era. Eliot s background also had a major effect on his writing style. Eliot published many religious works including Idea of a Christian Society. The plays that Eliot wrote in this period reflected a spiritual content as well as many journeys and tasks. His works also became more political. He spoke of how corrupt and apathetic the new age had become. His new political views were probably sparked from his life as a British citizen. Analyzation of Eliot s life provides great insight on why his writing was divided into these four periods. Eliot s demeanor was also evident in his work. Many said that Eliot often had a very serious look about him. He was very sophisticated in his speech and actions, and when he was humorous, it was in a very strange way. He often would make remarks that made very little sense. Both sides of his personality showed up in his work. Most of his writing was serious in nature, but sometimes it was amusing such as his Old Possum s Book of Practical Cats. Many people know of this work because the very popular musical Cats was based on it. Both of these were filled with nonsense humor. Eliot s influences made a huge impact on his writing. He was completely immersed in the works from Greek and Roman literature, as well as modern and medieval Europe. Eliot also greatly love the Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam. • 19. The Theoretical Themes Of Herbert Marcuse s Eros And... The theoretical themes of Herbert Marcuse s Eros and Civilisation and One Dimensional Man have roots in both Marx and Freud s theories. In explaining the existence of society, Marcuse shows how the motivations of the individual maintain the social world, but are shaped by structural forces. Through extension of Marx s argument and the application of Freud s psychology, Marcuse explains how the creation of the one dimensional man maintains order and suppresses resistance. Yet, the revolution Marx envisages could be a possibility, once liberated from one dimensional thought. Both micro and macro social analysis is used by Marcuse, without attempting to create a meta theory. Providing a Marxist critique of society, Marcuse argues for human choice and compliance within existing social structures. Through the discussion of socialisation , repressive desublimation and surplus repression this essay will demonstrate how Marcuse s theoretical approach was influenced by classical theorists Marx and Freud, as well as consideration of the key debate in sociology regarding the primacy of structural forces or personal agency in understanding and explaining the social world. This can subsequently be traced to contemporary theorists, notably, Giddens development of structuration theory and Archer s understanding of society as a reflexive ongoing process. This does not happen in many countries as it is against the law for people, depending on their age, to work for too many hours in one day and for every so many hours they have to have a break of some form. One of the main factors discussed in both texts are the role of teachers in society and if Socrates is a teacher. Socrates also relates past stories or experiences when giving his dialogues. This allows him to explain his thoughts and reasons on certain topics. One final factor that plays a role in both the Apology and Meno is the role of the gods through the dialogues. Teachers, stories, and the role of gods all play a key role in the Apology and Meno as Socrates attempts to explain and expand upon his views of education. In the Apology Socrates states that he is not a teacher because he does not charge a fee, such as Gorgias or Leontini do (pg. 24, 19 d e). Socrates does not consider himself a teacher because he does not charge a fee, and he also does not preach what he does not know. According to Socrates, those who have obtained great knowledge in certain subjects such as politics or poetry often come to the conclusion that they have knowledge about everything and therefore can teach about anything the choose (pg. 27, 23b). However, Socrates believes he is wiser than most because he does not preach what he does not know. Rather, he looks for those who do know the answers and then questions them to understand their thoughts about the topic. Thus, Socrates gains his education from questioning rather than pretending just as Meno points this out in the Meno. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Indeed, in a recent Pew Institute survey on attitudes in the Muslim world, only 53 per cent of those surveyed in Pakistan considered Shias to be Muslims. This figure is even lower in several other Muslim countries. There is similar doubt on the other side, with many Shias casting doubt on Sunni beliefs. So clearly, time has only sharpened this schism, rather than healing old wounds. Although mediaeval Islam saw states engaging in sectarian warfare, this tendency was later suppressed in modern times, as we have just discussed. Introduction The aim of this essay is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of setting up a wholly owned subsidiary (WOS) instead of a joint venture (JV). There are numerous studies and research papers done on which entry mode is best in different situations, but there is no simple task deciding which is the best unless one can see into the future. JV and WOS are two completely different entry modes with their distinct down and upsides. Entering a new market gives both great opportunities and involves high risk. There is much at stake but if one choose wrong entry mode it can cost the company tremendously, that is why one should not take this decision based on a few factors. The globalisation has given companies a bigger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If both companies in the partnership feel it is a win win situation the chance for success is bigger, and if they fail the cost will not be as devastating, the amount of risk is at a minimum compared to a WOS (Morschet, Schramm Klein, Zentes, 2010). 2.4 The disadvantages of JVs Being partners is not always easy, and it takes time and a lot of effort to build up a strong relationship between two companies. There are many uncertainties around partnerships, the partner can have a hidden agenda and have an opportunistic behavior (Aswathappa, 2010). The goal or objective for the partnership can be unclear and makes it difficult to know when they have succeeded. If there is an unbalance in the level of investment, effort or expertise the other partner can feel they are not getting what they expected. Many get caught up in endless conflicts, and often these issues are based on cultural differences. Most of these problems are management issues, but sometimes the company s management can agree on every point but the employers do not get enough information (businesslink.gov.uk). Without thorough research and effective communication the employers can start to working against the integration. 3. Discussion Setting up a WOS or JV can be a difficult choice but by doing a solid market research and an intern research of their own company the choice should be easier. • 27. Developmental Disabilities Research Paper Developmental Disabilities Developmental disabilities include several types of conditions due to impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. These conditions usually begin during the developmental period, may impact daily functioning, and most of the time last throughout a person s lifetime. Most developmental disabilities begin before a baby is born, but can also happen after birth due to injury, infection, or other risk factors. It is very important that the mother takes care of herself during her pregnancy to prevent or reduce the chances for her baby developing a disability. All the different types of developmental disabilities will be explained and discussed throughout the research paper. As previously stated most developmental disabilities are caused by a mix of factors. These factors include genetics, parental health and behaviors such as smoking and drinking during pregnancy, complications during birth, or infections the mother might have during the pregnancy or the baby might have very early in life. • 28. The Motif Of Entrapment By Edith Wharton Executive Order 9066, passed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1942, forced all Japanese Americans to pack up their lives and move to internment camps, a place where they would live in shabby barracks and get treated unfairly by guards. This order confineded the American citizens in heinous camps for up to three years. Because of their heritage, which could be as little as one sixteenth Japanese, the citizens were obligated to move; they became trapped in these camps where unhappiness was present in every aspect of life. Similarly, in the novel Ethan Frome, the title character is trapped in his unhappy life due to marriage, family, property, and financial liabilities. The author, Edith Wharton uses the motif of entrapment to prove how obligations lead to unhappiness throughout the novel. Ethan Frome and his wife, Zenobia (Zeena), never really know what true love feels like because they are both very lonely people. They meet when Zeena is caring for Ethan s mother; due to their loneliness, they mistake the bizarre feeling of companionship for love. Ethan marries Zeena, not because he is in love, but because he does not want to be alone and he feels like he owes it to her for everything she is doing for him. She is aware of this and claims, ...you grudged me the money to get back my health, when I lost it nursing your own mother! And my folks all told me at the time you couldn t do no less than marry me after (Wharton 83). In addition to Zeena saying that Ethan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Assessing Secular Temperature Trends Of Hawai Ęť I Assessing Secular Temperature Trends in Hawaiʻi May 14, 2015 (Draft) MA Thesis Proposal By Marie Maile McKenzie Department of Geography University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Abstract Large scale, global temperature analyses and climate change models may sometimes oversimplify or generalize smaller, regional trends. Only until a few years ago, efforts on climate change projections for island scale has intensified for more reliable assessments of various impacts of long term climate trends (Hamilton, 2014). Temperature changes over Hawaiʻi are expected to exceed the current daily maximum values by the end of the 21st century (Lauer et al., 2013). Mountainous tropical islands in the Hawaiian archipelago are showing greater warming than the lower elevations (Giambelluca et al. 2008; Diaz et al. 2011, 2014). Observed surface air temperature trends can also be used to test regionally downscaled climate models. The goal of this thesis is to analyze climate data to assess possible trends that are likely to impact future management of summit ecosystems. This research is essential to the effective protection and restoration of these fragile alpine and subalpine ecosystems. The primary focus of this research is to expand on and update the previous analysis by Giambelluca et al. (2008) by extending the data set from 2006 through to 2014 15 in order to: (a) develop a revised Hawaiʻi Temperature Index to include the more recent data; (b) assess changes that occurred in the ... • 31. Causes Of Violence In The French Revolution Essay How much violence is justified to achieve goals of a nation? Throughout history, brave people have stood up for their country against oppressive regimes. These revolutions are often unique in not only how they are led, but also the amount of bloodshed and damage to the country left behind. The French Revolution is often discussed by scholars because it is not only one of the most important events of modern history, but it is also one of the most absurd. It is a perfect display of how power can damage the values of individuals, no matter their intelligence or so called moral superiority . What started as an uprising of the commoners against the monarchy who had dictated their lives of squalor ended up becoming a tense war. Former allies were pitted against each other, resulting in over sixteen thousand deaths via guillotine. Even today, people still debate whether the end result, France gaining universal human rights and other benefits, justified the violent means. The French Revolution was a result of the system of Estates instated by the monarchy leaving the common people, or Third Estate, in terrible living conditions. The system was designed so that aristocrats, the clergy, and the monarch were guaranteed two thirds of all votes in their favour, meaning that commoners were left without a way to achieve change. The nobility lived in blissful ignorance, enjoying sumptuous feasts and privileges such as the rights to hunt, wear swords, and own fiefs. Meanwhile, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Opposing The Legalization of Marijuana Essay If marijuana was legal, back yard marijuana gardens would be in every neighborhood, thus kids would be able to get it as easy as taking fruit off a neighbor s tree (Johnathan Greens). According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 62.2 percent of the 14.2 billion people who used marijuana for the first time in one day were under the age of 18 years back in 2003. This increases by nearly 1.3 percent every year. This has become a problem due to Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) being the active ingredient in marijuana that can become dangerous if one should take advantage of its use by either smoking it or abusing it in its capsule/tablet form (Barr). As for a marijuana text that would have to be developed, the results will not be as immediate because drug tests for marijuana that are given today take up to weeks to receive back in order for the suspect to be positive or negative. These procedures that the government would like to take control of would be nearly impossible. If marijuana were to be legalized, there would be no way to control its developed public smoking habits because anyone who is around marijuana smoke has a great chance of having a contact buzz whether you want one or not. The public indecency of getting a contact buzz from others smoke would lead to many unnecessary lawsuits. Many of us do not want to have to worry about getting high when walking into a store. • 33. Functional Theory In American History X In the 1998 film American History X, Derek Vineyard is paroled after serving 3 years in prison for brutally murdering two black men who were breaking into his truck. Through his Brother Danny s narration of a paper he is writing, it is learned that Derek was the leader of a large Neo Nazi group known as D.O.C., or Disciples of Christ, that committed many acts of racial crime throughout Los Angeles. During his time in prison Derek decides that hate is a waste of time after being violently raped by fellow white supremacists, and his only friend being a black man, who was only in prison for a misunderstanding. After getting out on parole, Derek learns that Danny is headed down the same racist path as him, and decided that he must put a stop to it. Throughout this film there are many examples of the five theories of deviance; Functional, Conflict, Labeling, Broken Windows, and Differential Association. From Derek s initial exposure to racism, all the way to him deciding to change, all five theories are exemplified through Derek, Danny, their Father, Cameron, or the D.O.C. as a whole. To being, this movie shows Functional Theory by clarifying rules, bringing groups together, and eventually promoting social change. By Derek being sent to prison, it sets an example for not only Danny, but the entire gang, that being a Neo Nazi is wrong. While no one heads the warning, it does show them that their actions could land them in jail. Additionally, it also clarified social rules to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Descriptive Essay On Canada Day I think they call it Canada Day. A holiday in the middle of summer not unlike Independence Day in the United States. On this occasion, I happened to be visiting friends in Tete Juene Cache, British Columbia, several hundred miles into the interior. Tete Jeune was the French word for Yellow Head . The name, like the town itself, was a vivid reminder of the not so long ago gold rush days. Fewer than a thousand residents hid in the forests and canyons of this small settlement that clung to the western edge of the Canadian Rockies. My friends Chuck Gail had settled here just the year before, buying an old homestead that included one hundred and sixty acres of fields and woodlands at the foot of Mica Mountain. Now from the mountain, flowed a creed of the same name, the actual disposition of, was sometimes that of a well healed river in spring, often a mere trickle in summer. On this hot Sunday in July however, new friends and families were arriving at Chuck Gail s every moment. A holiday picnic had been planned in front of the farmhouse. Tables had been set up; barbecue pits ignited, croquet mallets waited. Howard the Monk arrived early, bringing with him a pot of still warm baked beans. Howard the Monk, was a man whose true vocation was still under a fair amount of speculation. Rumors had him placed in the States during the Vietnam conflict. He wore a long traditional brown robe with a thick braided rope tied at his waist. He had a great image in the wintertime. As I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Great Debate The Great Debate: Science vs Religion The relationship between religion and science has been a subject to numerous debates, earning its place in multiple forums and dominating the news. Disputes arise because science and religion are two very different disciplines. For instance, science is ultimately based on observation of nature while religion is largely based on faith. Conflicts between the two have existed for hundreds of years and will continue to do so, because of their different concepts of truth . Nevertheless, reaching a consensus between science and religion is generally impossible and difficult to achieve, because each are certain of the validity of their own beliefs. The same can be said about the controversial issue of cloning. Advocates state that cloning improves the overall quality of science and life, while critics stress over the clone s possible problems dealing with their emotional health and self worth. There is no simple way to resolve the conflicts between them, and reaching a consensus is generally impossible. Reading Comprehension As An Intermediate Level Reading Comprehension Jennifer told me that she is able to understand only the basics of English, but she is not able to understand big/difficult words. She does not like to read and she does not read too often. Jennifer only reads when she needs to read in school, but she does not read outside school. As far as I know, she is not doing well in the class and she is been getting F s since she started the school year. Her tests scores have been very low and one reason it could be that she does not comprehend everything that she is reading. Due to the low scores, I would also consider her reading comprehension as an Intermediate level because she understands the basics. Listening Comprehension Jennifer does not have a good listening comprehension since she does not understand the lecture. The teacher always needs to give her time during class because she does not understand all the material. She says that she understands better when she reads than when she is listening. Again, I would consider that her listening comprehension level is Intermediate. Informal, Every Day language From my point of view, Jennifer uses more informal language in her every day life. I think that her academic English vocabulary is not complex.
