Desire of the Fourteenth Century Women
Desire of the Fourteenth Century Women
Is not what we desire, the most hard to get? It has always been this way. Unfortunately, women s
rights and abilities have been underestimated over the centuries. In the fourteenth century, the status
and condition of a European woman depended on her husband s position. Women had to endure
arranged marriages, abuse and male dominance. During that time, Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The
Canterbury Tales and taught us about one extraordinary woman whose name is Dame Alisoun.
Alisoun is called The Wife of Bath, and she defines what women desired most in fourteenth century
England. She believes that women wish for power over their husbands, and I personally agree with her
opinion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As help me God, whan that I saw him go. After the beere, me thoughte he hadde a paire of legges and
of feet so clene and faire. That al myn herte I yaf unto his hold (line 601). Alisoun learns quicky about
men s weak sides and chooses her tactics depending on the situation. In her Prologue , the Wife of
Bath points out that there are no women writers and that only men write. Everything described in
Janekin s book is written from the men s point of view, and here Alisoun uses a painting as an
analogy: Who painted the leon, tel me who? By God, if wommen hadden writen stories, As clerkes
han wihin hir oratories, They wolde han writen of men more wikkednesse, Than al the merk of Adam
may redresse (line 695). If women got a chance to write, they would write good things about
themselves. The Wife of Bath explains that actually women are unable to present theirs ideas because
in the fourteenth century, women were not necessarily literate. Alisoun probably cannot read herself.
Only men can write about women, and Alisoun does not agree with what they say.
The Wife of Bath breaks the rule and norms for the fourteenth century woman. She mentions God
often, and she explains that true nobility comes from him: For gentilesse cometh fro God allone (line
1168). Here she mentions that class or social status does not matter, and that true nobility comes from
God. Even though Alisoun has an

The Industries Experiment On The Planet
The Industries Experiment on the Planet
Data was collected in several locations: a natural forest, a clear cut, and a plantation. Within these
spaces, the five bodily senses sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste helped to identify how each
location felt overall. In addition to the raw data collected, further analysis was undertaken using
information obtained in class. Ideas within the course were applied to the three locations, and an
analysis of the course content was applied to everyday problems concerning environmental issues that
stem from greenhouse gas emissions caused by mega industries. The world s largest and most
polluting industries are playing a dangerous game, lining their pockets at the expense of the planet and

Greed is the main driving force behind industries that profit from deforestation, damage to the natural
world and climate are the collateral damage. The clear cut area lacked both fauna and flora. In the
distance, the chirping of birds could be heard, but it was quite faint. The smell of trees and fresh dirt
lingered slightly; it was dry on the ground, and the area felt as though it was barely hanging on to any
semblance of its former life. There was a great feeling of emptiness and sadness. The point of
herbicides is to kill off the broad leaf trees, so that the needle trees would not be required to fight for
space and survival. (Davies, 2016)
Plantation UNB Woodlot The plantation was difficult to spot amongst the many other trees. A search
throughout a thin trail system was needed in order to locate one. Whilst stepping into the plantation,
there was a great probability of overlooking it as simply another section of natural forest. Although
there were many trees that resembled one another, it was surrounded by natural forest, so it blended in.
The three ways to tell that an area has been converted into a plantation are: (a) if the trees are quite
evenly spaced, (b) if there are more of one species of tree than others, and (c) if there are no broadleaf
trees or they are sparse and very small. One could hear the sounds of birds chirping and woodpeckers
nearby, and the smell was strong of pine, as it was a pine plantation. The general

Sociological Theories Of A Nuclear Family
In a sociological perspective, family is interpreted as a social group whose members are bound by
legal, biological, or emotional ties or a combination of all three. The sociological theories the connect
to this concept are functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionalism. First, functionalism
states that the family socializes children, it provides emotional and practical support for its members,
and it provides its members with a social identity. Secondly, conflict theory states that members create
disagreements, and create emotional support and comfort. Finally, symbolic interactionism claims
family members and intimate couples interact on a daily basis. Families are defined as a relationship
by blood, marriage, or affection (Seccombe 5). My family is a nuclear family. A nuclear family
consists of a mother, father and children living in one household. Every nuclear family has advantages
and disadvantages in them. The advantages are strength and stability, financial stability, which equals
more opportunity, consistency which means lucrative behavior, health benefits, conflict resolution and
better communication skills. In my nuclear family, we incorporate these advantages to become a better
family and to be brought closer together. Strength and stability refers to a child that is born into
marriage tend to have more stability than children born into cohabitation. Spouses that are committed
to each other teach their children to lead positive and

The Effect Of Overpopulation
The Effect of Overpopulation
This rapid increase in the population is causing lots of environmental, economic, social, political,
educational and health issues. People should be aware of the problems because if they did not then we
will be facing many problems in future. Moreover, overpopulation can affect on our health because of
the factories that release toxins in the atmosphere, which led to air pollution and land pollution. In
addition, the environment will face many huge issues if the population kept increasing. Many
countries have economic problems and some of them live in poverty all that because the sudden
increase of the population. Eventually the over use of resources can harm us badly if we did not find

How overpopulation affect our health
Overpopulation can cause many health issues. Today we are going to discuss it from two different
perspectives: Water pollution and Air pollution. Water pollution is the contamination of natural water
by chemical, physical or pathogenic microbial substances (C Michael Hogan ).for humans to survive
we need clean fresh water, but more than two billion people do not have clean water. Water pollution
happens from substances that comes from factories and dumped into waterways and affect the water
and it will be dangers to drink and will harm humans, animals and plants.
Air pollution is any matter or substances introduced to the atmosphere that has negative impact, which
can cause diseases, death and can harm other living things like animals or plants. The effects of Air
pollution can cause several respiratory and heart diseases and it can cause Cancer, many people have
died from exposing to air pollution. At the end with overpopulation, these problems going to be even
more harmful and difficult to deal

Tsunami Of The Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning And Mitigation...
Early in the morning of December 26, 2004, an earthquake rocked the floor of the Indian Ocean. The
9.1 9.3 magnitude earthquake subsequently caused a series of catastrophic tsunamis to hit the coasts of
Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and South Africa. The destruction was devastating, causing just
under $10 billion in damage and an estimated $7 billion more in humanitarian aid. Although so much
aid was sent to the affected areas, ten years later some of the areas are still suffering from the
devastation. Looking back, the main cause of the devastation was the lack of warning systems in
place. Although some places like Indonesia may not have had time to evacuate, many other affected
areas had plenty of time but were completely uninformed, being taken by surprise. Following the
tsunami the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System was created and put into place. A
lot can be learned from the lack of warning and preparedness from this disaster in order to better
prepare for the future (History.com, Rodgers). Originally, the earthquake registered at a 9.0 on the
Richter scale it was later upgraded to a 9.1 9.3. Releasing more energy than all the bombs dropped in
WWII, it is the second highest earthquake recorded in history, second to an earthquake in Chile which
registered at a 9.5 (National Geographic). It lasted approximately ten minutes making it the longest
duration ever observed. This means that the entire Earth vibrated as much as half an inch. This

Where The Red Fern Grow Analysis
Dr. Horgan,
I cannot recall the exact age I started reading, but I do know by second grade I was well on my way.
Books interested me back then. I remember going to the public library and sitting on the bean bags
and just reading. By, fifth grade I was breezing through books and getting all my stars for the Pizza
Hut and scholastic challenge. The teachers made us do reports to make sure we were actually reading
the books. However, I think even back then I was in a rush to get my stars that I skimmed through the
books. Was this a decline to my leaning process? Maybe but I still had the joy of reading. The last
book that really caught my attention was Where the Red Fern Grows. I remember having

Modern Thesis Paper
During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, changes in the dynamics of society caused intellectuals
to question the traditions of everyday life. From religious views to the arts of literature, traditional
values and forms were rejected, thus defining a line between the two time periods, which can be
considered as the start of the Modern era. Also known as Modernism, the modern era used literature as
an outlet for expressing the thoughts and feelings of the time. Modern texts use city life,
industrialization and globalization, and ironic and satirical themes to showcase their bleak outlook on
life post both world wars. The nature of these events are aspects of society ... Show more content on

The mistrust of the world which is at the center of modernism can be attributed to the world wars and
the psychological effect that it had on the individual. The horrors and violence altered public
perceptions of life, a change that is evident within writers of the time period. The focus of writing
shifted from the outward world to inner thoughts and feelings and overall representation of an
individual s stream of consciousness which are themes associated with modern text. In Impact of
Modernism , focuses on the idea that world needed new outlets for expression and in finding them

tradition they could discover radically new ways of making art. (Impact) .The world no longer had the
beauty it once did so a a discovery of new arts were needed. The mind of an individual became that
new found inspiration and beauty that modern writers needed and for that reason it was one of the

We Are Not Grizzly Bear Analysis
Liu Method Analysis: We Are Not Grizzly Bears Brian Pattron analyzes that the ideal lifestyle is
veganism, based on the observations of the animal kingdom. Pattron uses an inductive format by
introducing examples, slowly building to his statement. Pattron begins his opening statement with a
question as a hook, What are humans really supposed to eat? (Patton 1). The hook clues the audience
into the subject of the article. He then uses evidence stating the observations of nature, The grizzly
bear an omnivore is fast and strong jawed, with razor sharp teeth (Pattron 1). By presenting his
evidence before his statement, it gives anticipation to his argument. He then introduces his claim,
Based on the logic of the animal kingdom, we are designed to eat plants (Patton 1). The author brings
up a concession for those with medical histories There are always expectations, of course. People with

For instance, Our bodies want to change. (Pattron 2) is a short sentence that is straight to the point in
order to emphasize a statement. The sentence is followed by, They re screaming it through their
clogged arteries and layers of fat cells (Pattron 2). Pattron uses long sentences to expand on his ideas
introduced by the shorter syntax. Pattron relies on imagery and irony to support veganism. In
particular, Pattron states The grizzly bear an omnivore is fast and strong jawed, with razor sharp teeth.
(Patton 2). Pattron appeals to the sense of sight. By describing the bear, it solidifies the fearful image
of the bear s abilities. The author uses irony through the use of sarcasm, Humans are thought to be
omnivores just like the grizzly. Look in the mirror... we re so much alike, aren t we? (Pattron 1). The
use of sarcasm emphasizes the implied meaning that because humans and bears are different, humans
are suited for

The Problem Of Food Industry
1. Addressing the Problem
Too many people pick up food products off of the shelves and put it into their shopping cart without
knowing what exactly it is or what the product has been through. After watching an absolutely
disturbing documentary called Food Inc. I started to feel strongly about the problems of the Food
Industry. The problem is that our food is no longer being produced in an all American farm, but in
dirty abusive factories. Not only is the food unhealthy for us after all of the processing, but the
workers and animals are being abused. I know that I single handily cannot change all of the problems
with the twisted food industry, but I know that I can do my part by making others aware so that they
can make sure that they can make fully informed decisions about what they are putting into their carts
at the grocery store and eventually into their bodies.
In the past fifty years, there has been such a vast change in the Industrial Food Industry. Food went
from being grown naturally to being processed and packaged for convenience and cheapness. This is
where the problem starts, and the greed for money is to blame. The industry has been altered in order
to find convenience in making product faster because we all know, time is money. It has been altered
in a manner of scamming to get all you can out of as little as possible to of course, save money. It has
all become a game of money and profit rather than right and wrong and I have found more than
enough examples to

Emotional Abuse And Its Effects On A Person Essay
Emotional abuse is defined by its devastating effects on a person. It is seen in the forms of domestic
abuse, bullying, and child abuse. Research shows how someone who has been emotionally abused
develops personality disorders, has low self esteem, and even has suicidal thoughts. Although there
has been research that provides a general idea of emotional abuse and its effects, the research should
take a deeper look at how the smallest details affect someone. My position differs from those who
claim they know the true definition of what emotional abuse is. It doesn t include parents or abusers
who claim to know how to define it. Emotional abuse should be looked at with a magnifying glass
because the smallest details are what allow people to see how emotional abuse affects a person s
behavior and mental state, and the smaller details allow people to give a clearer definition of what
emotional abuse is. Although there have been numerous researches done to define what emotional
abuse is, there are many more factors that researchers haven t found yet. According to Gunta Krumins,
she states there are large gaps in information of this area (IX). What she means by her statement is
how there are many pieces of evidence needed to prove any information given by theorists and
psychologists. A majority of those pieces can be found by taking a look into a person s background.
Joan Lachkar, writer of The Many Faces of Abuse, states that to take a look, we must commit
ourselves to an

Comparing Sherlock Holmes And The 2009 Film
There are many similarities and differences between the literary version of Sherlock Holmes and the
film version of him. There have been several different interpretations of Sherlock Holmes in film,
however arguably the most well known movie version is the 2009 film. While the 2009 movie does an
alright job of adapting Arthur Conan Doyle s formula to the big screen, it fails to fully realize the
character of Sherlock Holmes and the many mystery stories he has been in. First, Arthur Conan Doyle
s version of Sherlock Holmes differs from the 2009 film version of Sherlock Holmes by not having a
narrator. One of the largest staples of Doyle s stories was the fact that Dr. Watson was narrating every
single story. This unique perspective allows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arthur Conan Doyle wrote many Sherlock Holmes stories and did so over the course of many years. A
large majority of these stories were smaller in scope and focused on a mystery that only pertained to a
small area of London, while the 2009 film focuses on a mystery that poses a threat to all of London
(IMDb). This immediately shifts the tone of the story to something much darker than usual and could
be off putting to potential new fans. While a large scale threat makes for a much more exciting movie,
it does not encompass what originally made Arthur Conan Doyle s stories so engaging. His stories
were popular because they offered close up views and intimate experiences with mysteries that were
believable to the common reader, while the 2009 movie aims to be a Hollywood blockbuster

change and give freedom and rights to his people. The text also says, It is from these comrades in the
struggle that I learned the meaning of courage... I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but
the triumph over it. I felt fear myself more times than I can remember, but I hid it behind a mask of
boldness (Mandela 4). One great characteristic of Mandela is that he had the ability to never show fear
or doubt, no matter the circumstances, he always proved to be a leader and thus the reason he was able
to accomplish so much. Finally, the text says, I never lost hope that this great transformation would
occur. Not only because of the great heroes I have already cited, but because of the courage of the
ordinary men and women of my country (Mandela 5). Mandela fought through the toughest of
situations and even went to prison for 27 years, just for his people, and continued to fight for them and
their rights. These individuals all had hopes and dreams for their people, and they put everything they
had into making sure that they was accomplished. Last but not least, Alicia Garza helped to enact

A Study On Becoming A Librarian
Introduction
There is more than one type of librarian and they play many roles this day and age. They were once
thought of as being the keeper of knowledge and were the go to persons for any and everything. Some
specialize in areas of interest such as cataloging, allocation, archives, and even special collections.
While others, depending on what type of library they work in conduct all of the above job functions

expected to know how no matter the size of the duty or request. Applying for employment in the field

duties? Is learning the basics of technology enough or should librarians have extensive training and
knowledge in the advancement of technology as well as becoming involved with its ever increasing
span? These are just a few of the examples of what is being sought after from librarians when being
considered for positions. A librarian should have a holistic approach to working within the field and
become forever students of learning the newest technology. This, in fact, will allow them to become
more marketable when seeking employment in various venues of the library world.
Training and Education
Whether it is a public librarian, academic librarian, a law librarian, a librarian working in the business
field, or a medical librarian, it is the norm for librarians to understand the dynamics of technology. Not
only are librarians required to have knowledge of the newest technology, they are also being required
to be able to use it. Sometimes there is a gap in what is being taught to future librarians in their school
programs and what is being required of them within the job sector. In order to sustain as a competitor
within the workforce, librarians need to be prepared to reach beyond the classroom guidance along
with teaching and seek outside resources for further educational

Tamora Pierce is a young adult fantasy fiction author who is quite well known for the young, strong
and rebellious heroines in all of her novels. She was born December 13th, 1954 in Fayette Country,

uncle gave her a set of books including several from A.A Milne, who wrote all of the Winnie the Pooh

Norman Rockwell s Artistic Success And Tragic Passing Of...
Norman Rockwell, a name most have heard if not learned, when the topic of art was ever brought up,
was a famous artist and illustrator who depicted the highs and lows of the common man. His art is
loved by many today as it was decades ago. Many have seen his work be it online, at an art museum or
in an art history book and have been intrigued by his art. I will be covering the early life, artistic
success and tragic passing of the great artist, Norman Rockwell.
Born in New York City on February 3 of year 1894, Norman Perceval Rockwell was destined for fame

It had been Rockwell s dream to do a cover for the Post magazine. Although not having an
appointment, he showed his work to the editor hoping for the best. The editor acknowledged and
accepted Rockwell s two finished works as covers and three other sketches for future covers. His
dream had in fact became a reality and this was just the start of a long relationship Norman would
have with the iconic magazine, a 47 year relationship to be exact. In total, he painted over 320 covers
for the Post. Rockwell s victory with the magazine won him interest by other magazines which in turn
led him to begin selling his paintings and drawings. One of his best and most memorable covers was
the 1927 celebration of Charles Lindbergh s crossing of the Atlantic. Another magazine that he
worked for was Look, which featured his cover capturing the imprint of Neil Armstrong s foot on the
moon s surface after the successful moon landing in 1969.
The 1930s and 40s were the best eras for Rockwell. In 1930, he married a second time to a woman
named Mary Barstow. Mary was a schoolteacher, and together her and Rockwell had three sons:
Jarvis, Peter and Thomas. The family moved over to Arlington, Vermont, in 1939. There was a whole
new and exciting world that was now at Norman s feet that offered the right material for the artist to
pick from. Much of Rockwell s success came from his appreciation for just everyday American
scenes,

The Three Branches Research Paper
The Three Branches Research Paper To start off I will be talking about the Legislative Branch. And
the definition of the Legislative branch is: the part of the United States government that creates laws.
Whenever you read about congress people in the Senate or House debating a law, you re reading about
the legislative branch: the branch of the government that writes, debates, and passes laws. Making
laws can be called legislating. First is how the Legislative branch uses the checks and balances and
checks the other houses. The Legislative Branch can check the executive branch by a couple ways:
Override the presidential vetoes with a two thirds vote, may remove president through impeachment,
and the senate approving treaties. The legislative branch can check the judicial branch by: removing
judges through impeachment, creating lower courts, and the senate approving the appointments of
judges. Next is the Speaker of the House and its role; his institutional role of presiding officer and
administrative head of the House, the role of leader of the majority party in the House, and the
representative role of an elected member of the House. The Speaker of the House is second in line to
succeed the President, after the Vice President. The Senate President Pro Tempore s job is; is similar to
the Speaker of the House but more limited. For example of the Pro Tempore s job is to act as in the
President of the Senate or Vice President when he/she is absent. Next is the Majority and

Analysis Of Legally Blonde
In the acclaimed 2001 film, Legally Blonde, the main character, Elle Woods, is a fantastic feminine
icon for females. The film represents the struggle of women to prove their ability. Remarkably, Elle
never succumbs to those who so strongly see her as being stupid. While others put down her abilities
and intelligence, Elle hardly ever doubts herself. She moves through the world with pure confidence.
As Callahan, a law professor at Harvard who later selects Elle Woods for his internship quips, it s as if
she just woke up one day and said, I m going to law school. She decides on a goal and knows she can
attain it, even if others only respond with incredulity or mockery. Legally Blonde has many positive
depictions of women and femininity for a 2001 film.
Elle doesn t fit the misogynist prospect of submissive femininity. She is loud, emotional, and
flamboyant. When she enters a room with the clacking of her bright pink heels, Chihuahua in arm,
beaming and effusive, you cannot ignore her. Elle s bubbliness and enthusiasm is often disdained,
especially in the legal world, but she continues to express her true self. She is unapologetic about
being attractive, sexual and caring about her appearance. She does not stop being stereotypically girly
despite that it makes others think she is less legitimate and intelligent. She proves that sexy and smart
are not opposing forces. Elle is the perfect example of how being feminine does not mean you submit
to patriarchal notion of submissiveness.
One of the fundamental themes in Legally Blonde is that a female having an ardor for fashion does not
make her dim witted and that fashion insight is not an immanently futile form of knowledge. Elle s
fashion knowledge is introduced when a retailer labels her as a dumb blonde, and tries to take
advantage of her by ripping off the last season sale tag and selling it to her for full price. Did you see
this one? We just got it in yesterday. the retailer told her. Slyly, she asks Is this a low viscosity rayon
with half loop top stitching on the hem?. Why yes, it s one of a kind, the retailer replied. Elle uses her
fashion knowledge and wittily replies It s impossible to use a half loop topstitch on low viscosity
rayon.

changing people s lives tugs at the reader s heart throughout a powerful story. A special soul named
Owen Meany is not only everyone s friend, but also a symbol of Christ. Not only does Irving show us
symbolism, but he also shows us many other literary devices throughout the entire novel. Using the
symbol of Christ is common in many novels, but Irving does it flawlessly. Many of the allusions
towards Owen Meany being a Christ figure are not entirely noticeable until some thought is put into
them. There is a very blatant allusion used within the novel and it is when Mr. and Mrs. Meany claim
that Owen was born by immaculate conception. The Catholic Church ... Show more content on

In A Prayer for Owen Meany, having faith within a religion is the most important theme in the story.
With all the tragedies that have to do with Owen and John s lives, having faith for their religion
becomes a struggle. Owen loses faith in the Catholics because of their denial that he is of a virgin birth
and was sent here by God. Throughout the whole novel, there is no evidence that anyone in this story
has true belief that a higher power exists. John s faith is always wavering through every heartbreak
that he goes through. He changes many denominations as the novel goes on, although on the first page
John states, I am a Christian because of Owen Meany (1). It is Owen s death that finally makes him
have faith in a higher power. When the Church denied the belief of Owen coming from an immaculate
conception, Owen s trust in the Catholics died too. He still knew he was put on earth for a very
important reason, but he lost trust in the Catholics. The challenge of religion in this novel leads the
reader to see inside how strongly Owen felt about his position in

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Vulnerability
Vulnerabilities in a system are weaknesses present in the system or lack of a counter measure which
has been placed to secure the system from exploitation and attack. The weakness of the
countermeasure could be related to hardware or software. Any procedural or human weakness can also
be exploited to threat the network setup. Basically a threat agent gives rise to a threat, which in turn
exploits the vulnerability that gives to a risk. Therefore it is important to safeguard the system against
the vulnerabilities to protect it from any type of attack.
Electromagnetic vulnerability is a system property that causes it to suffer a definite degradation when
subjected to electromagnetic environmental effects. The information leakages from computer ... Show

It is state of the art facility that does experiments on possible electromagnetic vulnerabilities that can
be posed by the US army weapons or by the electronics systems in use.
A few vulnerabilities related to EM security in a national level are stated as follows:
1. Modern electric equipment shrinks in size which is a reason for increased vulnerability to
electromagnetic interference. This makes restoring difficult.
2. Communication method such as given in the scenario presented to us where the network setup has
components of the national level of network of client nodes, infrastructure and datacenters, such
communications are vulnerable to the damage or disruption of electronics in the nodes that access the
fiber channels.
3. Sensors used in the system are vulnerable to EM attacks.
4. The electronic systems in the network are also vulnerable to HPM attacks. The enemy can
comfortably blind forces to allow attacks by disabling key nodes in a sensor network for a
considerable time period. This vulnerability though is limited to a range and needs high energy

Machiavelli And Justice
Throughout human history the notions of justice and power had been intimately connected.
The seminal dialogue of Plato The Republic is one of the best works known to human history which
attempts to define the notion of justice. The Prince of Machiavelli is one of the best political treatises
which highlight the importance of the notion of power. Plato starts his seminal dialogue The Republic
interposing a question What is justice? . Different people attempt to answer that question. Now, it is
interesting to explore which definition of justice suggested by Cephalus, Polemarchus, Thrasymachus,
Glaucon ,Adeimantus or Plato would be accepted or be most appropriate in the sense of Machiavelli.
By saying most appropriate, one might understand which definition Machiavelli would want people to
think of justice. In order to investigate this question, I would use the premises of human nature given
by Machiavelli. A distinctive feature separating the philosophies of Machiavelli from his predecessors,
particularly, its difference from the thinkers of antiquity, the same as Plato , was a real look at the
surrounding reality and its realistic analysis without exaggeration and without a variety of political
utopias life. In his treatises, Machiavelli considers the policy in its pure form, out of alignment with ...

going to meet with that notion frequently. So, Plato would define virtue as the highest form of good

in establishing the notion of the justice Machiavelli would want it to pass first the stage of praise of
the common people and then the necessity of not

The Dynamics of Identity and Insanity in The Accidental...
In the plays The Accidental Death of an Anarchist written by Dario Fo, and The Government Inspector
, written by Nikolai Gogol, ‘identity and ‘insanity play vital roles. The Maniac, who is the
protagonist of The Accidental Death of An Anarchist , is seen changing his identity throughout the
play, pretending to be various other people. Khlestakov, the protagonist of The Government Inspector
lands in the position of being an inspector by chance, and throughout the play he thoroughly exploits
this opportunity by making the most of this particular identity. It is this characteristic of both
protagonists that drives the audience to a point where they may start doubting the sanity of these two
characters. These two ‘ingredients of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

basic human traits such as greed and curiosity leading to false identity. Nikolai Gogol, like Fo had a
hidden motive behind the changing identity of Khlestakov. He has created the character of Khlestakov
to fulfill the purpose of exposing the corrupt nature of local administration. As, the officials thought he
was the government inspector they tried to bribe him and the audience was made aware of their
deceitful nature. He has chosen to give Khlestakov the false identity of a government inspector so that
he can unravel the truth, which was the obvious motive of Dario Fo as well. Maniac: Yes, if I were a
sane person. But I am mad. I have a certificate. This dialogue is met with great laughter from the
audience. Fo has created the insane character of the Maniac to add to the humour of the play. He talks
to himself as well as non living objects around him. His dialogues are blunt and clearly reflect his
insanity. At some point his multiple identities is what leads the audience to think he is insane.
However, there is a thin line between insanity and wisdom. Some might perceive the Maniac to be

Communication And Communication
Conversation is such an important element when forming relationships with others and is needed
when bringing communities together. In order to establish communities, you need people who are able
to create bonds with one another through similar interests, common goals, and anything that can stir
up simple conversations. It sounds easy to talk to people, but most of the time, conversation is a lot
more complex than it sounds. In order to have conversation, we need to put aside our internal conflicts
that we all are guilty of having; such as stereotyping, putting our emotions first, and not listening to
other peoples opinions. Environment, people, topic, and many other characteristics are crucial in order
to have a good conversation. Communities have been bonded throughout the years by conversation,
but how we communicate has changed and continues to change as time progresses. Communication
can be done in multiple ways. You can have a face to face dialogue with people, call someone, text,
facetime, email; the ways these days are endless. These types of connections were not around when
the adults of this generation were younger, but the teenagers now are part of an era where technology
is major and available when wanting to speak to people. Some people will say those who overuse cell
phones are fleeing from conversation and can change who we are (Turkle). While you can perhaps
have an opinion on today s society being overly technical, you cannot conclude that

A Common Explanation Of The Crisis Of Labor Movements
A common explanation of the crisis of labor movements is that the hypermobility of productive capital
in the late twentieth century has created a single labor market in which all the world s workers are
forced to compete. (Silver, 2003, p3) This statement suggested that the single labor market causes the
employers to hire the enormous amount of unorganised workers due to the production line demand
more workers. For instance, the new president of Unite State (U.S.), Donald Trump, claims Reducing
taxes from 35% to 15% will be a job creator (Donald Trump, 2016). By doing this, it has the huge
positive effect on companies, small and big businesses. Since the reduction in taxes drops 20%, the
companies can use that 20 % to move production line back to the country and hire the same amount of
workers or even more.
Silver structured the book into five sections introduction, labor movements and capital mobility, labor
movements and product cycles, labor movements and world politics and contemporary dynamics in
worldhistorical perspective. The first section the writer briefly explain what cause the labor movement
and what impact has it bring into the industries. Next section, she analysed the unstable of world scale
dynamics of labour. Till this second section, the readers have understood a bit more about labor
movements, focused on the leading capitalist industry of the twentieth century. The third part she used

The Effects Of Dry Needling On Physical Therapists
Dry needling is currently one of the scope of practice battles encountered in the physical therapy
profession. The hot topic is extremely controversial and is not only debated by physical therapists but
by acupuncturists as well. The primary issue is whether dry needling should actually be considered
under the physical therapists scope of practice. The controversial aspect arises because the dry
needling technique is technically invasive because the skin is being punctured. Another issue that
comes about this topic is the insufficient amount of research conducted. (Benefits/Side Effects) In
addition, dry needling is also not currently included in the DPT programs curriculum. Therefore, those
physical therapists who want to acquire this skill it is required to be learned in a continuing education
course. Furthermore, there are currently only 18 locations in the United States that offer dry needling
education to physical therapists. Another issue concerning dry needling is how this technique should
be coded and billed. This being said, it is illegal for physical therapists in New York, Idaho, Tennessee,
Hawaii, and South Dakota to perform dry needling in their practice. For example, Hawaii prohibits
physical therapists from puncturing skin under any circumstances. Although, it is not considered
illegal in the other states, it has not been confirmed as qualifying under the scope of practice by the
state regulatory board. The APTA has even began to contact

Q1. How structurally attractive is the Russian ice cream market? Discuss how its industry structure
can be made more attractive? (663 words)
The political and financial instability had greatly impacted Russian ice cream industry. The financial
crisis in 1998 and the devaluation of the ruble had greatly reduced Russian market s consumption
ability. It also increased the production cost of Russian ice cream producers who relied on external
market for raw materials. The shrinkage of frozen import market heavily impacted by the financial
crisis forced the wholesales entered the ice cream market, which intensified the competition in the
market. Russian government s value added tax further decreased the profit of ice cream producers.

They would further squeeze the profit margin of producers. Therefore a lower cost would guarantee
better profit margin. Since consumption in this segment had a strong seasonality, the ability to recoup
the cost of extra producing capacity would be necessary to reduce the cost.
Family consumption segment was relative small, but it was the most promising. Compared with
impulsive consumption segment, it had less seasonality since ice cream was eaten in the warm houses
in winter, which reduced the demand to producing capacity. Shelf space in the super market was
crucial to succeed in this segment. To get this valuable resource, two measures should be adopted.
Firstly, building a close relationship with supermarket was a necessity. This cooperation would
guarantee the shelf space. A strong brand with strong customer preference would pull the demand and
increase the bargaining power with supermarket. Secondly, a special package and longer quality
guarantee period was necessary as well. If the products could be kept long, supermarket would have to
discount the product as the deadline approaching.
Café and restaurant consumption segment was the most lucrative and most demanding segment.
Alignment between the products and lifestyle was the basis in this segment. A high quality product
without a prestige brand could not survive in this segment. Therefore heavy investment on adverting

The Main Characters In The Graveyard Book By Neil Gaiman
The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman, is about a boy whose family was murdered by a mysterious
man Jack. This boy, now named Nobody Bod Owens, was taken under the care of the people of the
graveyard, spirits of those who had died and were buried in this graveyard, and had Silas a man who
was neither dead nor living become his guardian. It is here in the graveyard in which Bod grows up
and visits many strange places and people, including the place of the Indigo Man, the Sleer, the ghoul
gate, and a witch. It is from these experiences in which Bod develops throughout the story, learning
about the dead and trying to fit into the living, exploring the reason why the men Jack had killed his
family and is still after Bod. The setting of the graveyard in the book The Graveyard Book, by Neil
Gaiman, plays an important role, shaping Nobody Owens through his experiences, education, and as
his home.
The graveyard served as a key in the development of the main character, Bod, through serving as his
home. The graveyard acts as a source of comfort for Bod, even when stereotypically, a graveyard is
known for being dark and gloomy. This is shown when Bod, while the world puddled into blurred
reflection, had sat concealed from anyone, living or dead... and read his book. (Gaiman 174.) The fact
that Bod was able to settle down and read while the environment around him is so dismal shows that
Bod is completely comfortable and relaxed in the graveyard, rather than finding his

The Main Ideas of Liberal Political Theory
Examine the main ideas of Liberal political theory
It is perhaps safe to say that the most prominent political philosophy in contemporary era is liberalism.
Liberalism is based on the ideas of liberal political theorists of the last three hundred years. Among
these ideas, the first and most important deals with the question of liberty. Political theorists such as
John Locke and John Stuart Mill argued that liberty of individual citizens must be upheld by the state.
Mill particularly stated that the state should be liberal by default. The burden of proving that liberty
should be restricted or prohibited should lie on the states. Unless they can provide such proof, all
citizens should by presumption be at liberty. Locke, Rousseau, and Hobbes stated that liberty could be
restricted under certain circumstances. For instance, when the state is threatened by a revolt, and since
the state is the guarantor of liberty of all its subjects, the state is justified in curtailing some liberal
policies but temporarily. The government under liberal political theory is viewed as a necessary evil.
The theory suggests that the power and the role of the state should be minimized. There should also be
a balance of power in the state. Democracy is essential for liberal political theory. Citizens should
enjoy both liberty and the freedom to elect or, in the absence of liberal political order, overthrow the
government. But the liberties of citizens cannot be guaranteed in a state of anarchy.

techniques of waste heat recovery Essay
Techniques of Waste Heat Recovery
Waste heat recovery is being more used more and more often today as it is becoming more effective,
due to increasing energy prices, technological developments and a decrease in equipment costs. Heat
recovery can be classified into three main strategies: recycling energy back into the process,
recovering the energy for other onsite use and using it to generate electricity in combined heat and
power systems. Once the system has been made as efficient as possible before using waste heat
recovery, passive strategies are used. These have no significant input for operation except for auxiliary
equipment such as pumps and fans. The last case is active strategies, which require some input of

cross contamination between gas streams must be prevented in applications such as ovens and steam

Run around coil exchangers
These are quite similar in principle to the heat pipe exchanger. The heat from the hot fluid is
transferred to the colder fluid via an intermediate fluid. One coil of this closed loop is installed in the
hot stream; the other in the cold stream and the circulation is maintained by means of a pump. This
application is used when the hot and cold fluids are located far away from each other and not easily
accessible.
Economizers
Used in boiler systems an economizer is used to pre heat the boiler water or combustion air using the
flue gas, in low to medium temperatures. These are used in domestic cases as well as in large
factories. They can increase the net thermal efficiency of a boiler by up to 15%.
Waste heat recovery boilers
They are ordinary water tube boilers in which the hot exhaust gases pass over a number of parallel
tubes containing water. The water is vaporized in the tubes and collected in a steam drum from which
it is drawn out for use as heating or processing steam.
Shell and tube heat exchangers
If the medium containing waste heat is a liquid or a vapor and is needed to heat another liquid both
paths must be sealed to contain the pressures of the respective fluids. The shell contains the tube

Sex, Lies, And Conversation
Sex, Lies, and Conversation: Why Is It So Hard For Men and Women to Talk to Each Other? In Sex,
Lies, and Conversations: Why Is It So Hard For Men and Women to Talk to Each Other? the author,
Deborah Tannen, argues that both genders have different ways of communicating between each other.
She states that males are more to the point and want to find the solution quickly, rather than talk it out
and get all of the details about it like females do. She starts out by using an anecdote about a couple
that she met in Virginia. She commented that the husband had done all the talking at the meeting and
that usually the women complain that their husband does not really say all that much. He then
gestured to his wife and stated that she did all the talking at home. He also stated that if she didn t
keep the conversation going at home after he got off work that they would just sit in silence for the
evening. (Tannen 50) She writes about this to show us that she is a down to earth person by using the
pathos and ethos behind the story to make us trust what she is saying is true and helpful to a
relationship. She states that she has done some research of her own to help back her writings up. First,
she researches the Linguistic Battle of the Sexes (Tannen 51). She implies that she is not the first
person to see these tendencies in the two genders. She talks about another psychologist that has done
some research by a Stanford University Alumni Eleanor Maccoby. She states that

What Are The Similarities Between Sequoia And Kings Canyon...
The Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are two of the most famous national parks in the Sierra
Nevada Range. The Sierra Nevada range is located in California along the North American Plate. This
range sits to the right of the San Andreas Fault and the Pacific Plate. Some referred to these parks as
The Land of Giants which turns out to fit them quite well. The parks get this name due to the huge
mountains, endless canyons and the world s largest trees they are home for ( Sequoia and Kings
Canyon National Parks, USA Today). The Sequoia National Park was founded on September 25th,
1890, making it the second oldest park in the United States, and Kings Canyon National Park was
established March 4th, 1940. The two parks are adjacent to one another and stretch over
approximately 865,964 acres, which a little less than 97% is woods and wilderness. These are large
tourist attractions and provide a treasured experience many people value greatly in their lives. The
reason it is such a treasured experience to tourists is because of the many special aspects of the park
that include the Giant Forest of Sequoias as well as Mount Whitney. Mount Whitney is known for
having the highest peak south of Alaska at 14,494 feet above sea level ( Sequoia and Kings Canyon

The Myth Of Sisyphus And The Stranger
It is common for authors to use similar themes in their work intentionally. For Albert Camus, the
author of The Myth of Sisyphus and The Stranger, the use of similar themes seems to be intentional.
The author takes a very different approach to the same topic, however. Not only is the underlying
topic of existentialism the same, but the writing styles and rhetorical devices similar, as well. Through
the use of similar devices and themes, the reader is able to understand, analyze, and compare and
contrast the complementary approach that has been taken in both stories. Camus uses a more informal
word choice in The Stranger, and a more formal word choice in The Myth of Sisyphus . Here, while

It was pleasant; the coffee had warmed me up, and the smell of flowers on the night air was coming
through the open door. I think I dozed off a little. (Camus,14). In this use of imagery, you can see how
Meursault obviously feels about his mother, as there is a lack of interest or even empathy. In The Myth
of the Sisyphus , Camus takes another route, but still uses heavy visual imagery. In this quote, the
narrator explains that through coercion, Sisyphus is able to talk the Gods into letting him visit his wife
one more time before he has to return to the underworld. But when he had seen again the face of this
world, he enjoyed the water and sun, warm stones and sea, he no longer wanted to go back to the
infernal darkness...Many years more he lived facing the curve of the gulf, the sparkling sea, and the
smiles of the earth. (Myth of Sisyphus). Though this imagery, the reader is able to tell that Sisyphus is
a master of trickery, and that he feels better than the Gods because he can outsmart them by telling a
simple lie. When he does, he is obviously pleased with himself because he now gets to live in the sun,
and by the sea with his wife. This ties directly into some of the meaning behind existentialism and
how the only hope for meaning in one s life lies with the individual who can construct in. Camus uses
the undeniable underlying theme of existentialism in both pieces, but adds absurdism within The Myth
of Sisyphus . Considering that in both the stories the

NO Spiritual Reward for Depriving the Physical Body
There is NO Spiritual Reward for Depriving the Physical Body of Comfort or Pleasure
I. Doctrine
There is a great falsehood that is perpetuated by the modern church, and it is one that threatens the
very mission assigned to every believer in Matthew 28:18 20. Before one can address this falsehood,
one must understand the duty of God s people in this life. It is the believer s task to go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them as God ordained, and teaching them how to obey the teachings
of Jesus. What then are the teachings of Jesus? As believers, we hold as doctrine that God the Father,
along with the Holy Spirit and the Son created all that is. He gave Man, God s special creation made
in His own image, dominion over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This heresy is the idea that there is a spiritual reward for depriving the physical body of comfort or
pleasure. The Catholics who endured the outbreaks of bubonic plague in the Middle Ages sometimes
resorted to self flagellation, a practice of whipping or beating one s self in order to gain favor with
God (and presumably avoid plague). Catholics have long practiced similar traditions, with some
devout Catholics praying on particularly uncomfortable prayer mats or refusing red meat on certain
days. Some Catholic clergy go so far as to wear burlap undergarments, so as to suffer with Christ and
perhaps gain favor with God. This heretical doctrine declares the atonement by Christ to be an
incomplete one, and contradicts His final words, the confirmation that It is finished (John 19:30b).
The particular incarnation of this heresy that pervades even the evangelical churches of today comes
to light in those churches condemnation of various things, including drugs and alcohol. Now, as
described above, all things created by God in the beginning were good. The use of the earth s
resources was given to Man, and with it responsibility. The scriptures indicate that alcohol can be a
deceiver. Immoderate use of alcohol leads to drunkenness, which the scriptures indeed condemn
(Galatians 5:19 21). However, alcohol was never forbidden to the Hebrews, and Jesus himself made it
at the wedding in Cana (John 2). It seems clear that the alcohol itself is not what the scriptures

To do this, you need to divide the top and the bottom number by the same number to get a smaller
whole number on both parts of the fraction. This fraction can then be simplified as follows: 12/88 ÷ 4
= 3/22 This fraction cannot be simplified any further as 3 and 22 cannot both be divided by the same
number. Decimal To express Monday s traffic as a decimal we find the fraction that represents the
proportion we are looking for. Using or previous calculation, this gives us 12/88 or 3/22 To convert a
fraction into a decimal, divide the top number of the fraction by the bottom number ie 3 ÷ 22 = 0.13
(or 12 ÷ 88 = 0.13). Percentages To work out percentages, all you need to do is work out the decimal
and move the decimal point two places to the right. This is the same as multiplying it by 100. Using
Monday s figures again, this would be applied in the following way: 0.13 1.30 13.0 13% So, to work
out a percentage you need to follow the above steps to express the proportion as a fraction, convert it
to a decimal and then move the decimal point two places to the right. Using Monday s figures again
this can be simplified as: 12 ÷ 88 x 100 = 13% Task two: Scale Drawing Purpose: We have been given

Sexuality Is A Social Identity That Goes Beyond The...
Sexuality is a social identity that goes beyond the objectivity of the title and into the subjective scope
of the personal lives of individuals, which in turn fabricate the social constructivism of a nation.
Classism, heterosexism, and cisgenderism are further reinforced within the institutionalization of
heteronormativity, being the promotion of the gender binary and heterosexuality as the only valid form
of gender expression and sexual orientation. The normalization of this system is not enforced as
inconspicuously as one would believe, with both Western and Eastern countries visibly dictating social
norms in regards to sexuality, by deeming certain sexual practices as socially acceptable through the
sanction of microaggressions and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These American words which are typically used to further define and label individuals who do and do
not fall within the classifications of heteronormativity are used as the result of there being no cultural
explanation and validation for lesbian Thai women. The omittance of a translation for the term lesbian
in the Thai language further perpetuates the validation of heteronormativity as the only acceptable
form of relationships. The term men being used interchangeably with lesbian demonstrates how in the
Thai culture it is assumed and widely agreed that only men would be sexually attracted to women
(Sinnott, 2).
For Asian women, their sexuality has not only impacted their identity, that identity in itself has created
a power structure within each of these countries that has grown to include, but not outwardly accept
the sexual practices of marginalized groups of women. In Thailand specifically, it is made known that
homosexual behavior does not necessarily lead to an identity, nor does it necessarily constitute a
distinct transgression of sexual or gender norms , yet the secularization of queer women leads to class
divides, and sociocultural boundaries with the intention of exclusion (Sinnott, 3). Despite a vast array
of feeble terms to correctly identify masculine lesbians, feminine lesbians, normal (in regard to Thai
culture) women,

The Changing Place of Slaves and Slavery in the American Nation
In the beginning as early as 1502 the European slave traders shipped 11 to 16 million slaves to
America. The English colonists had indentured servants instead of slaves. Indentured servants were
servants that had a contract and only worked for a certain period of time. African American slaves
were used when the English men were running out of indentured servants. The first African American
slave was in 1619. They also had Irish, Scottish, English and German indentured servants. Over half

And it shows no clear connection between social identity and votes for the Republicans or Democrats
in the Northern County.
By 1662, the partus sequitur ventrem principle was adopted by the southern colonies. It openly
discriminated the slaves by confining them into a certain category of population. Their children were
supposed to inherit the status of their mothers regardless of whom the father was. In other words, they
would still be non citizens. This was prompted by the enactment of several legislations like the 1712
Slave Codes which was later adopted by nearly all the colonial states. Together with many
amendments and court rulings, this migrant group was stripped of American citizenship alongside
other privileges exclusively reserved for the whites. It clearly stipulated that no slave shall enjoy
freedom of movement, association, sell or buy a property, be taught how to read and write, employed,
demand for payment, plant corns, domesticate pets or possess any goods or weapons. If so, and
caught, they would be punished by whipping, nose slitting, branding, chopping off the ear, castration
or killing (Stockwell, 2012).
The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order issued to the agencies of the United States by
President Lincoln during the civil war that proclaimed that all slaves in the Confederate territories be
forever free. The Emancipation Proclamation was limited in many ways. It applied only to states that
had seceded from the

The Importance Of Learning English
Learn Your English In todays world, English and the use of English is rapidly changing. It s slowly
becoming a more universal language due to the diversity of people in many different countries.
Having a shared language would ensure all American citizens can communicate with one another and
prevent groups from becoming isolated and separated from one another. With the help of two essays
The New Technologies in the World written by Dennis Baron and So Here s What s Happening to
English written by Jack Rosenthal, you ll soon then understand how English is changing right beneath
your feet. English should be the medium of instruction at universities and everyone should learn
English in the United States for the following three reasons: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If you re going to read about technology, you ll probably have to do it in English. Another reason why
English should be known is by being able to communicate with others. The importance of English is
becoming much more known in result to that it s widely introduced in majority of high schools and
colleges. But on another note such as speaking internationally, it would be very beneficial to learn
english, not only will your opportunities expand, but the knowledge you can gain from it is
unmatched. Baron introduces this topic by saying, When it comes to globalization, the first language
that comes to mind is of English, which gets you thinking, you don t think of any other language first
when it comes to language of the world. To create a world of ethical responsibility, English language
plays a key role. Most works of art and popular culture are more honestly represented in their origin of
language, such as a song, novel, or even a movie. Without this common language, nothing would be
able to function smoothly. Similarly, it is also very important to maintain peace and harmony among
people. If you raise an issue, only through peaceful talks and conferences, they can be discussed and
solved problems. English is best to make this easier. It makes business run much more smoothly as
well. If everyone at a company speaks English and you have a handful that don t, communication will
be much more tough and will likely put things out of

  • 2. Desire of the Fourteenth Century Women Desire of the Fourteenth Century Women Is not what we desire, the most hard to get? It has always been this way. Unfortunately, women s rights and abilities have been underestimated over the centuries. In the fourteenth century, the status and condition of a European woman depended on her husband s position. Women had to endure arranged marriages, abuse and male dominance. During that time, Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales and taught us about one extraordinary woman whose name is Dame Alisoun. Alisoun is called The Wife of Bath, and she defines what women desired most in fourteenth century England. She believes that women wish for power over their husbands, and I personally agree with her opinion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As help me God, whan that I saw him go. Alisoun learns quicky about men s weak sides and chooses her tactics depending on the situation. In her Prologue , the Wife of Bath points out that there are no women writers and that only men write. Everything described in Janekin s book is written from the men s point of view, and here Alisoun uses a painting as an analogy: Who painted the leon, tel me who? By God, if wommen hadden writen stories, As clerkes han wihin hir oratories, They wolde han writen of men more wikkednesse, Than al the merk of Adam may redresse (line 695). If women got a chance to write, they would write good things about themselves. The Wife of Bath explains that actually women are unable to present theirs ideas because in the fourteenth century, women were not necessarily literate. Alisoun probably cannot read herself. Only men can write about women, and Alisoun does not agree with what they say. The Wife of Bath breaks the rule and norms for the fourteenth century woman. She mentions God often, and she explains that true nobility comes from him: For gentilesse cometh fro God allone (line 1168). Here she mentions that class or social status does not matter, and that true nobility comes from God. Even though Alisoun has an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within these spaces, the five bodily senses sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste helped to identify how each location felt overall. In addition to the raw data collected, further analysis was undertaken using information obtained in class. Ideas within the course were applied to the three locations, and an analysis of the course content was applied to everyday problems concerning environmental issues that stem from greenhouse gas emissions caused by mega industries. The smell of trees and fresh dirt lingered slightly; it was dry on the ground, and the area felt as though it was barely hanging on to any semblance of its former life. There was a great feeling of emptiness and sadness. The point of herbicides is to kill off the broad leaf trees, so that the needle trees would not be required to fight for space and survival. Whilst stepping into the plantation, there was a great probability of overlooking it as simply another section of natural forest. Although there were many trees that resembled one another, it was surrounded by natural forest, so it blended in. The three ways to tell that an area has been converted into a plantation are: (a) if the trees are quite evenly spaced, (b) if there are more of one species of tree than others, and (c) if there are no broadleaf trees or they are sparse and very small. Sociological Theories Of A Nuclear Family In a sociological perspective, family is interpreted as a social group whose members are bound by legal, biological, or emotional ties or a combination of all three. The sociological theories the connect to this concept are functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionalism. First, functionalism states that the family socializes children, it provides emotional and practical support for its members, and it provides its members with a social identity. Secondly, conflict theory states that members create disagreements, and create emotional support and comfort. Finally, symbolic interactionism claims family members and intimate couples interact on a daily basis. Families are defined as a relationship by blood, marriage, or affection (Seccombe 5). My family is a nuclear family. A nuclear family consists of a mother, father and children living in one household. Every nuclear family has advantages and disadvantages in them. The advantages are strength and stability, financial stability, which equals more opportunity, consistency which means lucrative behavior, health benefits, conflict resolution and better communication skills. In my nuclear family, we incorporate these advantages to become a better family and to be brought closer together. • 6. Tsunami Of The Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning And Mitigation... Early in the morning of December 26, 2004, an earthquake rocked the floor of the Indian Ocean. The 9.1 9.3 magnitude earthquake subsequently caused a series of catastrophic tsunamis to hit the coasts of Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and South Africa. The destruction was devastating, causing just under $10 billion in damage and an estimated $7 billion more in humanitarian aid. Although so much aid was sent to the affected areas, ten years later some of the areas are still suffering from the devastation. Looking back, the main cause of the devastation was the lack of warning systems in place. Although some places like Indonesia may not have had time to evacuate, many other affected areas had plenty of time but were completely uninformed, being taken by surprise. Following the tsunami the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System was created and put into place. A lot can be learned from the lack of warning and preparedness from this disaster in order to better prepare for the future (History.com, Rodgers). Originally, the earthquake registered at a 9.0 on the Richter scale it was later upgraded to a 9.1 9.3. Releasing more energy than all the bombs dropped in WWII, it is the second highest earthquake recorded in history, second to an earthquake in Chile which registered at a 9.5 (National Geographic). It lasted approximately ten minutes making it the longest duration ever observed. This means that the entire Earth vibrated as much as half an inch. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I remember going to the public library and sitting on the bean bags and just reading. By, fifth grade I was breezing through books and getting all my stars for the Pizza Hut and scholastic challenge. The teachers made us do reports to make sure we were actually reading the books. However, I think even back then I was in a rush to get my stars that I skimmed through the books. A Thesis On Modernism Brian Blair Whitaker LA LIT 4 H B1 Ms. Gladstone 2/16/18 Modern Thesis Paper During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, changes in the dynamics of society caused intellectuals to question the traditions of everyday life. From religious views to the arts of literature, traditional values and forms were rejected, thus defining a line between the two time periods, which can be considered as the start of the Modern era. Also known as Modernism, the modern era used literature as an outlet for expressing the thoughts and feelings of the time. • 9. We Are Not Grizzly Bear Analysis Liu Method Analysis: We Are Not Grizzly Bears Brian Pattron analyzes that the ideal lifestyle is veganism, based on the observations of the animal kingdom. Pattron uses an inductive format by introducing examples, slowly building to his statement. Pattron begins his opening statement with a question as a hook, What are humans really supposed to eat? (Patton 1). The hook clues the audience into the subject of the article. He then uses evidence stating the observations of nature, The grizzly bear an omnivore is fast and strong jawed, with razor sharp teeth (Pattron 1). By presenting his evidence before his statement, it gives anticipation to his argument. He then introduces his claim, Based on the logic of the animal kingdom, we are designed to eat plants (Patton 1). In particular, Pattron states The grizzly bear an omnivore is fast and strong jawed, with razor sharp teeth. (Patton 2). Pattron appeals to the sense of sight. By describing the bear, it solidifies the fearful image of the bear s abilities. The author uses irony through the use of sarcasm, Humans are thought to be omnivores just like the grizzly. • 10. The Problem Of Food Industry 1. Addressing the Problem Too many people pick up food products off of the shelves and put it into their shopping cart without knowing what exactly it is or what the product has been through. After watching an absolutely disturbing documentary called Food Inc. I started to feel strongly about the problems of the Food Industry. The problem is that our food is no longer being produced in an all American farm, but in dirty abusive factories. Not only is the food unhealthy for us after all of the processing, but the workers and animals are being abused. I know that I single handily cannot change all of the problems with the twisted food industry, but I know that I can do my part by making others aware so that they can make sure that they can make fully informed decisions about what they are putting into their carts at the grocery store and eventually into their bodies. In the past fifty years, there has been such a vast change in the Industrial Food Industry. Food went from being grown naturally to being processed and packaged for convenience and cheapness. This is where the problem starts, and the greed for money is to blame. The industry has been altered in order to find convenience in making product faster because we all know, time is money. It has been altered in a manner of scamming to get all you can out of as little as possible to of course, save money. • 11. Emotional Abuse And Its Effects On A Person Essay Emotional abuse is defined by its devastating effects on a person. It is seen in the forms of domestic abuse, bullying, and child abuse. Research shows how someone who has been emotionally abused develops personality disorders, has low self esteem, and even has suicidal thoughts. Although there has been research that provides a general idea of emotional abuse and its effects, the research should take a deeper look at how the smallest details affect someone. My position differs from those who claim they know the true definition of what emotional abuse is. It doesn t include parents or abusers who claim to know how to define it. Emotional abuse should be looked at with a magnifying glass because the smallest details are what allow people to see how emotional abuse affects a person s behavior and mental state, and the smaller details allow people to give a clearer definition of what emotional abuse is. Although there have been numerous researches done to define what emotional abuse is, there are many more factors that researchers haven t found yet. According to Gunta Krumins, she states there are large gaps in information of this area (IX). What she means by her statement is how there are many pieces of evidence needed to prove any information given by theorists and psychologists. A majority of those pieces can be found by taking a look into a person s background. Joan Lachkar, writer of The Many Faces of Abuse, states that to take a look, we must commit ourselves to an ... This immediately shifts the tone of the story to something much darker than usual and could be off putting to potential new fans. • 18. The Three Branches Research Paper The Three Branches Research Paper To start off I will be talking about the Legislative Branch. And the definition of the Legislative branch is: the part of the United States government that creates laws. Whenever you read about congress people in the Senate or House debating a law, you re reading about the legislative branch: the branch of the government that writes, debates, and passes laws. Making laws can be called legislating. First is how the Legislative branch uses the checks and balances and checks the other houses. The Legislative Branch can check the executive branch by a couple ways: Override the presidential vetoes with a two thirds vote, may remove president through impeachment, and the senate approving treaties. The legislative branch can check the judicial branch by: removing judges through impeachment, creating lower courts, and the senate approving the appointments of judges. Next is the Speaker of the House and its role; his institutional role of presiding officer and administrative head of the House, the role of leader of the majority party in the House, and the representative role of an elected member of the House. The Speaker of the House is second in line to succeed the President, after the Vice President. The Senate President Pro Tempore s job is; is similar to the Speaker of the House but more limited. • 19. Analysis Of Legally Blonde In the acclaimed 2001 film, Legally Blonde, the main character, Elle Woods, is a fantastic feminine icon for females. The film represents the struggle of women to prove their ability. Remarkably, Elle never succumbs to those who so strongly see her as being stupid. While others put down her abilities and intelligence, Elle hardly ever doubts herself. She moves through the world with pure confidence. As Callahan, a law professor at Harvard who later selects Elle Woods for his internship quips, it s as if she just woke up one day and said, I m going to law school. She decides on a goal and knows she can attain it, even if others only respond with incredulity or mockery. Legally Blonde has many positive depictions of women and femininity for a 2001 film. Elle doesn t fit the misogynist prospect of submissive femininity. She is loud, emotional, and flamboyant. When she enters a room with the clacking of her bright pink heels, Chihuahua in arm, beaming and effusive, you cannot ignore her. Elle s bubbliness and enthusiasm is often disdained, especially in the legal world, but she continues to express her true self. She is unapologetic about being attractive, sexual and caring about her appearance. She does not stop being stereotypically girly despite that it makes others think she is less legitimate and intelligent. She proves that sexy and smart are not opposing forces. Elle is the perfect example of how being feminine does not mean you submit to patriarchal notion of submissiveness. One of the fundamental themes in Legally Blonde is that a female having an ardor for fashion does not make her dim witted and that fashion insight is not an immanently futile form of knowledge. Elle s fashion knowledge is introduced when a retailer labels her as a dumb blonde, and tries to take advantage of her by ripping off the last season sale tag and selling it to her for full price. Did you see this one? We just got it in yesterday. the retailer told her. Slyly, she asks Is this a low viscosity rayon with half loop top stitching on the hem?. By doing this, it has the huge positive effect on companies, small and big businesses. Since the reduction in taxes drops 20%, the companies can use that 20 % to move production line back to the country and hire the same amount of workers or even more. Silver structured the book into five sections introduction, labor movements and capital mobility, labor movements and product cycles, labor movements and world politics and contemporary dynamics in worldhistorical perspective. The first section the writer briefly explain what cause the labor movement and what impact has it bring into the industries. Next section, she analysed the unstable of world scale dynamics of labour. The hot topic is extremely controversial and is not only debated by physical therapists but by acupuncturists as well. The primary issue is whether dry needling should actually be considered under the physical therapists scope of practice. The controversial aspect arises because the dry needling technique is technically invasive because the skin is being punctured. Another issue that comes about this topic is the insufficient amount of research conducted. (Benefits/Side Effects) In addition, dry needling is also not currently included in the DPT programs curriculum. Therefore, those physical therapists who want to acquire this skill it is required to be learned in a continuing education course. Furthermore, there are currently only 18 locations in the United States that offer dry needling education to physical therapists. Another issue concerning dry needling is how this technique should be coded and billed. This being said, it is illegal for physical therapists in New York, Idaho, Tennessee, Hawaii, and South Dakota to perform dry needling in their practice. For example, Hawaii prohibits physical therapists from puncturing skin under any circumstances. (663 words) The political and financial instability had greatly impacted Russian ice cream industry. The financial crisis in 1998 and the devaluation of the ruble had greatly reduced Russian market s consumption ability. It also increased the production cost of Russian ice cream producers who relied on external market for raw materials. The shrinkage of frozen import market heavily impacted by the financial crisis forced the wholesales entered the ice cream market, which intensified the competition in the market. They would further squeeze the profit margin of producers. Therefore a lower cost would guarantee better profit margin. Since consumption in this segment had a strong seasonality, the ability to recoup the cost of extra producing capacity would be necessary to reduce the cost. Family consumption segment was relative small, but it was the most promising. Compared with impulsive consumption segment, it had less seasonality since ice cream was eaten in the warm houses in winter, which reduced the demand to producing capacity. Shelf space in the super market was crucial to succeed in this segment. To get this valuable resource, two measures should be adopted. Firstly, building a close relationship with supermarket was a necessity. This cooperation would guarantee the shelf space. A strong brand with strong customer preference would pull the demand and increase the bargaining power with supermarket. Secondly, a special package and longer quality guarantee period was necessary as well. If the products could be kept long, supermarket would have to discount the product as the deadline approaching. In fact death of Doodle is the result we get and it is the narrator s fault because he overworked him, he left him in the storm, and the fact that he never even loved Doodle in the first place. One of the reasons the narrator was responsible for killing Doodle was because he overworked him. • 32. The Main Characters In The Graveyard Book By Neil Gaiman The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman, is about a boy whose family was murdered by a mysterious man Jack. This boy, now named Nobody Bod Owens, was taken under the care of the people of the graveyard, spirits of those who had died and were buried in this graveyard, and had Silas a man who was neither dead nor living become his guardian. It is here in the graveyard in which Bod grows up and visits many strange places and people, including the place of the Indigo Man, the Sleer, the ghoul gate, and a witch. It is from these experiences in which Bod develops throughout the story, learning about the dead and trying to fit into the living, exploring the reason why the men Jack had killed his family and is still after Bod. The setting of the graveyard in the book The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman, plays an important role, shaping Nobody Owens through his experiences, education, and as his home. The graveyard served as a key in the development of the main character, Bod, through serving as his home. The graveyard acts as a source of comfort for Bod, even when stereotypically, a graveyard is known for being dark and gloomy. This is shown when Bod, while the world puddled into blurred reflection, had sat concealed from anyone, living or dead... and read his book. (Gaiman 174.) • 33. The Main Ideas of Liberal Political Theory Examine the main ideas of Liberal political theory It is perhaps safe to say that the most prominent political philosophy in contemporary era is liberalism. Liberalism is based on the ideas of liberal political theorists of the last three hundred years. Among these ideas, the first and most important deals with the question of liberty. Political theorists such as John Locke and John Stuart Mill argued that liberty of individual citizens must be upheld by the state. Mill particularly stated that the state should be liberal by default. The burden of proving that liberty should be restricted or prohibited should lie on the states. Unless they can provide such proof, all citizens should by presumption be at liberty. Locke, Rousseau, and Hobbes stated that liberty could be restricted under certain circumstances. For instance, when the state is threatened by a revolt, and since the state is the guarantor of liberty of all its subjects, the state is justified in curtailing some liberal policies but temporarily. The government under liberal political theory is viewed as a necessary evil. The theory suggests that the power and the role of the state should be minimized. There should also be a balance of power in the state. Democracy is essential for liberal political theory. Citizens should enjoy both liberty and the freedom to elect or, in the absence of liberal political order, overthrow the government. But the liberties of citizens cannot be guaranteed in a state of anarchy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Sex, Lies, and Conversations: Why Is It So Hard For Men and Women to Talk to Each Other? the author, Deborah Tannen, argues that both genders have different ways of communicating between each other. She states that males are more to the point and want to find the solution quickly, rather than talk it out and get all of the details about it like females do. She starts out by using an anecdote about a couple that she met in Virginia. She commented that the husband had done all the talking at the meeting and that usually the women complain that their husband does not really say all that much. He then gestured to his wife and stated that she did all the talking at home. He also stated that if she didn t keep the conversation going at home after he got off work that they would just sit in silence for the evening. The Sierra Nevada range is located in California along the North American Plate. This range sits to the right of the San Andreas Fault and the Pacific Plate. Some referred to these parks as The Land of Giants which turns out to fit them quite well. The parks get this name due to the huge mountains, endless canyons and the world s largest trees they are home for ( Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, USA Today). The Sequoia National Park was founded on September 25th, 1890, making it the second oldest park in the United States, and Kings Canyon National Park was established March 4th, 1940. In The Myth of the Sisyphus , Camus takes another route, but still uses heavy visual imagery. In this quote, the narrator explains that through coercion, Sisyphus is able to talk the Gods into letting him visit his wife one more time before he has to return to the underworld. But when he had seen again the face of this world, he enjoyed the water and sun, warm stones and sea, he no longer wanted to go back to the infernal darkness...Many years more he lived facing the curve of the gulf, the sparkling sea, and the smiles of the earth. When he does, he is obviously pleased with himself because he now gets to live in the sun, and by the sea with his wife. This ties directly into some of the meaning behind existentialism and how the only hope for meaning in one s life lies with the individual who can construct in. The Catholics who endured the outbreaks of bubonic plague in the Middle Ages sometimes resorted to self flagellation, a practice of whipping or beating one s self in order to gain favor with God (and presumably avoid plague). Catholics have long practiced similar traditions, with some devout Catholics praying on particularly uncomfortable prayer mats or refusing red meat on certain days. Some Catholic clergy go so far as to wear burlap undergarments, so as to suffer with Christ and perhaps gain favor with God. This heretical doctrine declares the atonement by Christ to be an incomplete one, and contradicts His final words, the confirmation that It is finished (John 19:30b). The particular incarnation of this heresy that pervades even the evangelical churches of today comes to light in those churches condemnation of various things, including drugs and alcohol.
