Women And Leadership
Title:
Women and leadership female style or male style?
The Pitch:
The debate about the difference in leadership style of women and men continues to attract attention
since women make strides into leadership position dominated mainly by men. Men have long been
holding these leadership roles and have defined styles accepted by people. Therefore, it is not
surprising that women are usual the focus in terms of the discussion on gender difference in
leadership styles. There seems to be great disagreement about the behaviour of women and men
actually performing such roles (Eagly, 2001). This disagreement on this focus can be divided into
two groups. One is the no difference camp, who commonly agreed that there are few differenced
in the leadership style of female and male leaders. The other is the gender stereotypic camp who
believed the existence of crucial differences in the leadership style between both (Alvesson, 2009).
Leadership style is usually viewed as relatively stable patterns of behavior that are represented by
leaders. In the circumstance of leadership, agentic and communal features seem especially relevant.
For example, agentic features such as independent, dominant and competitive are more attached to
men than to women. While communal features such as helpful, kind, gentle, sympathetic and
personal sensitive are strongly occupied by women than men (Eagly, 2003). In addition, according
to Eagly and Johannesen Schmidt (2001), the difference between agentic and

The Catalyst Archetype
With an even shorter arc than The Loyalist, The Catalyst inhibits the protagonist s Two Face
nature before disappearing and requesting something from the protagonist. The Catalyst is almost
always present whenever a Two Face archetype is present in a story, but cannot exist without the
Two Face. In Doki Doki Literature Club, the Catalyst is the protagonist s childhood friend, Sayori,
who eventually hangs herself. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, the Catalyst is Sybil Vane, who
eventually ingests poison and dies. For the plot to progress, The Catalyst must somehow disappear
from the story, though they might disappear in different ways or for different reasons. Both Sayori
and Sybil die by suicide, but complete suicide for different reasons. Sayori... Show more content on

A similarity between Sybil and Sayori is, before their death, both characters beg something from
the Two Face. Sybil begs Dorian Gray to give her another chance to act well if he does not leave
her. Sayori asks for the player to care for the other girls in the club and not care for her. The
archetype of The Catalyst slowly loses power over The Two Face, making the archetype appealing
to audiences and a good foundation for writers as a starting point for stories; however, the character
exhibiting the archetype must not remain in the story for too long else risking the piece boring the
audience. For Sayori and Sybil, their demise is their suicide, after believing the reaction from The
Player and Dorian is a punishment. Sybil s punishment is from disappointing Dorian with her bad
acting and Sayori s punishment is from sharing her depression and the player wanting to show
affection towards Sayori. While the circumstances of The Catalyst s punishment changes, the
ending result of the Catalyst s death drives the protagonist to develop their Two Face

Hydraulic Fracturing Is Not The Only Cause For Ethical...
Hydraulic fracturing is not the only cause for ethical concern. Mountaintop removal for the
purposes of coal mining is an incredibly harmful procedure taking place on our planet. This
destructive action being taken by companies looking to access coal underneath mountains is not
only damaging to the earth and environment, but is also affecting humans who live near these sites
(The Destructive Process of Mountaintop Removal). Companies is West Virginia and Kentucky
can take virtually any mountain they choose and level it because laws are created in the favor of coal
mining companies.
The process of mountaintop removal is a drawn out process that eventually leaves the earth it is
leveling unusable. First, the mountain is cleared of trees, plants, and topsoil. The trees below are
often cleared as well to make room for the rubble that will take their place. The next step involves
blasting the top of the mountain. Ammonium nitrate explosives are used to blast through up to
1,000 feet of the mountain in order to access coal seams (The Destructive Process of Mountaintop
Removal). During this time dust and toxic chemicals like silica, fall over surrounding areas
sometimes even neighborhoods and communities. As noted before, silica is known to cause the
lung disease silicosis, so it is disturbing that one of these removal sites is within several hundred
yards of an elementary school (Hoffman). After blasting, the coal companies dig through the debris
with enormous machines. The

The Pros And Consequences Of The Revolutionary War
The CPM had learnt from bitter experience to become smarter, more subtle and sophisticated, more
pragmatic and aware of its limitations and by withdrawing modestly to the background, Too
commented. (7)
From there, it directed and manipulated ambitious and unscrupulous surrogates to create trouble,
thus making it extremely difficult for the security agencies to identify and take proper action
against such communist agents.
When sufficient trouble had been created, even by apparently non communists or anti communists,
a revolutionary situation would be created and the time would become ripe for the revolutionary
struggle once more.
This is another reason why the CPM insisted on keeping its armed struggle ... Show more content

Because of the contradictions within the ruling reactionary cliques (echoing social upheavals ), the
CPM looked forward to a new revolutionary storm ominous words reminiscent of its June 1968
message which had presaged the outbreak of the second insurgency (1968 1980).
In a more militant editorial broadcast on the 37th anniversary of its post war insurrection on June
1985, the CPM again spoke with a forked tongue, talking peace and calling for war. (11)
The editorial called for continuing the revolutionary war in so called defence of democracy and
freedom against the guns and cannons of a handful of reactionaries supported by the British
imperialists. Its objective was to achieve a new leap forward (Mao s language).
The CPM also called for popular resistance to stop the counter revolutionary war. In other words, the
Government should stop its anti insurgent operations while the CPM was planning for another
revolutionary war and a return to full scale armed conflict (what the Government side would call
Emergency III), hopefully with some popular

Effects Of Cultural Imperialism In Nepal
The fact of the culture of a large and powerful country, organization, etc. having a great influence
on another less powerful country, etc: is known as cultural imperialism.(Cambridge) .There are
many ways in which a stronger country can have power over a weaker one, however, in the 21st
century, cultural imperialism is the most effective and easily applicable. Spreading one s own
influence over other s takes time. For the past many years, the U.S. has had a very powerful
influence on many countries of North America, Europe and Asia, including Nepal. There are many
factors that contribute to the ever so definite cultural imperialism of the U.S seen in Nepal. The

It is very common for the nepalese students to go abroad for studies after finishing their high
school. And the country that most of the students choose to go to is america. In my own school, I
saw many of my seniors leaving for the U.S. after their high school was over. No one would be
surprised to hear the students say that they were leaving their home country and going to the U.S.
to pursue higher education. The juniors would be desirous and show their desire to go abroad to
study. The main reasons that promote going abroad to pursue higher educatio, especially to the
U.S, are (1) the absorptive capacity of American higher education, (2) the quality of American
higher education, (3) the complementarity of Asian demand and American supply and (4) the
opportunities provided in American higher education to cover educational costs through part time

In her article Women s History Joan Scott states that it is important for historians to be attentive to
both the ways in which politics constructs gender and gender constructs politics . First, definitions

Both politics (all relationships involving unequal distributions of power) and gender involve
cultural definitions and as a result politics and gender have influence on each other. Historians, as
Joan Scott states, must be aware the influence that politics and gender have on one another in order
to create a complete, accurate history.
The idea that historians should be aware that politics constructs gender in the first part of Scott s
claim seems logical. In order to understand why it is important for historians to be attentive to
the idea that politics constructs gender it must be demonstrated what Joan Scott meant by this
claim. All relationships can be defined by their respective balance of power. There is either an
equal balance of power or there is an unequal balance of power. Relationships that have an
unequal balance of power, as Joan Scott defines, involve politics. It can be generalized that in
order to maintain power those with influence create rules or perform actions that seek to sustain
their authority. The rules and actions do not have to be formal and include methods such as
labeling individuals, biological groups, or socially created groups such as gender. Over time,
gender type has been associated, or labeled, with power by those who have the power. As the
balances of power change over time, the rules and actions towards those

All MRI data were processed blind to the order of scan acquisition (baseline or week 10), treatment
assignment, and participant clinical characteristics. Anatomical MRI We applied automated tools to
correct for large scale variations in image intensities30 and to remove extracerebral tissue31. We
then removed connecting dura manually on each slice in the sagittal, axial, and coronal views. We
first coregistered all participant brains to an initial template using a similarity transform that
maximized mutual information32 and then applied a high dimensional, nonrigid fluid flow

We applied spectral fitting to the frequency domain signal to identify peaks for N acetyl
aspartate (NAA), creatine+phosphocreatine (Cr), choline containing compounds (Ch), and
glutamate+glutamine (Glx). We modeled the spectrum for those peaks with Gaussian
Lorentzian curves, which were fitted to the data using a least squares curve fitting routine. The
areas under the fitted curves estimated concentrations of the metabolites in each voxel of the
brain. We performed quality control of the data by visually assessing the spectrum in each MRS
voxel and rejected data from voxels with strong lipid contamination, insufficient suppression of
residual water, unresolved Cr and Ch peaks, or full width at half maximum 12 Hz for the peaks.
We then computed background noise for the MR spectrum as the standard deviation of the real
part of the complex spectrum free from the metabolite signal, and then computed the signal to
noise ratio (SNR) for each metabolite level. The average SNR for NAA was greater than 280, an
excellent SNR attributable to use of the 8 channel head coil. We then generated a spectroscopic
image (SI) for each metabolite as the ratio of peak area to background noise for each MRS voxel
in the brain. Taking the ratio of the peak area to the background noise accounted for variations in
receiver and transmitter gain across scans. We subsequently processed the spectroscopic images to
correct for both partial volume effects within each MRS voxel and the dispersion

Code Duello Research Paper
During many duels, the opponents follow Code Duello . In the book by Ellis, Code duello is
followed in one of the most historically and influential American duels. This duel helped change the
views of many people. This duel is important historically and politically. Therefore, this duel is
important for the shaping of America. Even politicians get into fights after their arguments.
However, during the colonial periods, these fights were known as duels. One of the most famous
duels is mentioned in the book and is between Aaron Burrand Alexander Hamilton. The duelhas
certain rules to keep injury as minimal as possible. As well as to prevent any arguments or
battles between families or political parties. There are many different versions on how the duel
happened. The most well known one starts off like this On the morning of July 11, 1804, Arron
Burr and Alexander Hamilton were rowed across the Hudson River in separate boats to a secluded
spot near Weehawken, New Jersey.(page 20,p1,1 3). After they get out of the boat the shot the

Case Control Study
Discussion
In recent years, it has been suggested that miRNAs act as key regulators of gene expression
networks. Like other genes, single nucleotide polymorphism in miRNA genes can affects their
function at different levels, such as miRNA transcription, maturation and target specificity. Our
study is the first report of mir 23a, mir155 and mir 196a2 polymorphism in the iranian MS
patients. In this case control study we examined the impact of functional mir 155 rs767649,
mir196a2 rs11614913 and miR 23a rs3745453 polymorphism on MS risk in a sample of Isfahan
population. We found that miR 23a rs3745453 CT variant seem to increase the risk of MS in this
population (OR =2.5).

Considerable up regulation of miR 23a was reported by Meng and Gottardo in human bladder
cancer and in malignant cholangiocytes compared to normal tissues. Furthermore, Mi et al. in their
study showed that miR 23a was among several other miRNAs that have been differentially
expressed between acute myeloid leukemia (AMLs) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALLs). In
addition, up regulation of miR 23a/b along with miR 24 has also been identified in osteoblast cell
line (20,21).
An exonic MiR 155 with rs767649 (T/A) polymorphism in the upstream region of the pre miR 155

has been suggested that miR155 modulate host antiviral immune response by elevating type I
IFN signaling. In some study This miRNA proposed to be involved in diverse biological
processes, such as inflammation, differentiation, and immunity. Furthermore, dysregulation of
miR 155 has been reported in viral infections and different cancers. Some study reported mir155
highly expressed in activated T and B cells as well as macrophage and dendritic cells(23). Our
result suggested that rs767649 TT genotype have potential to act as a risk factor for MS(OR=2.5),

Essay on Luaghing Comedy-Oliver Goldsmith
The Theatre, like all other amusements, has its fashions and its prejudices, and when satiated with
its excellence, mankind begin to mistake change for improvement. For some years tragedy was
the reigning entertainment, but of late it has entirely given way to comedy, and our best efforts
are now exerted in these lighter kinds of composition. The pompous train, the swelling phrase, and
the unnatural rant, are displaced for that natural portrait of human folly and frailty, of which all
are judges, because all have sat for the picture. But as in describing nature it is presented with a
double face, either of mirth or sadness, our modern writers find themselves at a loss which chiefly
to copy from, and it is now debated, whether the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these plays almost all the characters are good, and exceedingly generous; they are lavish enough
of their tin money on the stage, and though they want humor, have abundance of sentiment and
feeling. If they happen to have faults or foibles, the spectator is taught not only to pardon, but to
applaud them, in consideration of the goodness of their hearts; so that folly, instead of being
ridiculed, is commended, and the comedy aims at touching our passions, without the power of
being truly pathetic. In this manner we are likely to lose one great source of entertainment on
the stage; for while the comic poet is invading the province of the tragic muse, he leaves her
lovely sister quite neglected. Of this, however, he is no way solicitous, as he measures his fame
by his profits. But it will be said, that the theatre is formed to amuse mankind, and that it matters
little, if this end be answered, by what means it is obtained. If mankind find delight in weeping at
comedy, it would be cruel to abridge them in that or any other innocent pleasure. If those pieces
are denied the name of comedies, yet call them by any other name, and if they are delightful, they
are good. Their success, it will be said, is a mark of their merit, and it is only abridging our
happiness to deny us an inlet to amusement. These objections, however, are rather specious than
solid. It is true, that amusement is a great object at a

INTRODUCTION:
Family therapy is a psychotherapeutic treatment of the family to bring about better psychological
functioning. It is a highly flexible psychotherapeutic approach applicable to a wide range of child
focused and adult focused problems. Family therapy has been viewed as a powerful, fast and
effective method of achieving change within the family (Poin¬ton, 2006).
Definition of family therapy: Gurman, Kniskern, and Pinsof (1986) defined family therapy as any
psychotherapeutic endeavor that explicitly focuses on altering the interactions between or among
family members; and seeks to improve the functioning of the family as a unit, or its subsystems,
and/or the functioning of individual members of the family .
Sholevar (2003) defines family therapy as any use of a family focused intervention to bring out
behavioral and/or atti¬tudinal changes in one or more family members.
Adult: The word adult derived from the adults which means grown to full size and strength or
matured. Adults are the individuals who are completed their growth and are ready to assume their
status in the society along with other adults. There are

Dikeskemp s Influence On The Nature Of God
In the beginning God is recorded as taking six days to create everything. He creates many unique
and beautiful things in those first five days; however, only one of those created beings, humanity,
received God s direct breath. In fact, before humanity was even created, God is recorded as saying
in Genesis, Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness...(Holy Bible). Godintentionally
placed his own likeness into all of humanity. Consequently, as Bufford (2007) states, it seems every
human life has significance and worth intrinsically woven into it. As a therapist, this has immense
ramifications. Not only does this understanding influence how I interact with every client, but it
also gives me motivation to press through and understand even the most difficult clients.... Show

High School in Fort Mitchell, KY and the other 375 will come from Holmes Middle School in
Covington, KY, a non blue ribbon school. The grades of the participants will range from sixth to
eighth grade. The study will consist of all the students in each grade from both high schools.
Measures and Materials To measure the academic stress of students, the Academic Expectations
Stress Inventory (AESI) will be administered to participants (Ang Huan, 2006). The purpose of
this inventory is to evaluate the students academic stress that comes from their own expectations
as well as those around them (Huan, See, Ang, Har, 2008). The AESI consists of nine items as
well as two subscales that consist of expectations of self and of parent/teachers. Items are
measured on a Likert scale ranging from 1 (never true) to 5 (almost always true). An example of
the subscale from expectations of parents/teachers would be, I blame myself when I cannot live
up to my parents expectations of me . An example of the subscale from expectations of self
would be, I feel stressed when I do not live up to my own standards . Ang and Huan (2006) found
that this scale was reliable based on the results of previous studies they conducted. AESI scores
have been proven to be valid using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor
Analysis (CFA) methods (Huan et al., 2008). This resulted in a nine item measure with two
subscales: personal (four items) and others (five items) (Ang Huan, 2006). The Cronbach alpha
estimates obtained for the AESI total yielded a value of 0.87 while the two subscale scores
yielded Cronbach alpha values of 0.81 (self) and 0.79 (others) in the present study (Huan et al.,

Analysis Of The Book The Mona Lisa Essay

ARTH 1010 81
Assignment 3
Professor Williams.
The Mona Lisa
One of my most favorite paintings in the history of Western art must be the Mona Lisa. This
sixteenth century oil painting is one of the world s most famous paintings. It was painted by the
famous Italian painter, architect, sculpture, draftsman, and engineer Leonardo da Vinci. It is well
known that the Mona Lisa painting is portrayed as the most visited, viewed, written, and sung
about painting in the world. This portrait took Leonardo da Vinci about three to four years to
complete. Mona Lisa is said to be one of his favorite art work; therefore, he took his time painting
and finishing it.
The Mona Lisa represents a composition with an immense value. The subject of the painting itself
is mysterious; therefore, the fascination and interest in da Vinci s work attracted millions across the
world. This caused a huge interest in the audience because the Mona Lisa has no identity. Everyone
is curious and inquisitive to know who this beautiful woman is. Until this day, no one really knows
the real identity of Mona Lisa. In addition, the smile on the face of the woman in the painting
caused mixed thoughts. This painting is considered to be one of the greatest mysteries as pertaining
to the identity of the subject.
The portrait consists of a figure of a woman with vital expressions that added a significance feature
to the painting. It is set within a mountainous landscape illustrated in the softest

The Issue Of Food Safety
Food safety is important , millions of people become seriously ill every year by the consumption
of unsafe food. Major outbreaks of food borne disease have been recorded on every continent in

within the meat industry as it is an essential part of the legislative framework to cultivate good
safety habits in all individuals, to engender a strong safety culture in the workplace. legislation

every person must take reasonably practicable steps to ensure the safety and health of every

The Roswell Incident This world we live in can be a mystery, and because of that there are

As there is a certain proportion of middle aged and older men with serum total testosterone levels
below the reference range for puerile adult males, there is a suggestion that supplementing
testosterone in older men with low testosterone levels into a range that is mid mundane for
salubrious, adolescent men may avert or reverse the effects of ageing.
A double blind placebo controlled study showed that GH with or without sex steroids in salubrious
women and men aged 65 88 years incremented lean body mass and decremented fat mass.
These findings were kindred to an antecedent randomized, controlled, double blind tribulation in
1996, in which 52 salubrious men aged 69 years with well preserved functional facility but low
baseline IGF 1 levels were given 6 months of physiological doses of GH.
Direct age cognate changes need to be distinguished from indirect alterations caused by
simultaneous thyroid or non thyroidal illness, or other physiological or pathophysiological states
whose incidence increases with age.
Several vicissitudes formerly believed to be a direct result of the senescent process have
subsequently been shown to be due to the incremented prevalence of subclinical thyroid disease and

Thyroid hormone clearance decreases with age, but thyroid hormone secretion is withal reduced,

Due Process Model And Crime Control Model
The two models that we have encountered in this class are the due process model and the law
and order, or the crime control model. The due process model can be observed, most famously,
during the Warren Court in the 1960s, during Warren s time as Chief Justice the court was most
concerned with protecting and extending the rights of the accused. The due process model puts
more strain on the prosecution to prove that the criminal s rights were not infringed upon and that
he actually committed the crime. In contrast, the crime control model is most concerned with
lowering crime and deterring future criminals by prosecuting and processing criminals and cases
as fast as possible. In some ways, this model resembles an assembly line, in the sense that it
attempts to process cases as quickly and efficiently as possible. This model is much more
concerned with convictions rather than upholding the rights of the accused. It is most prevalent
starting in the late 1960s when Nixon appointed Warren Burger as Chief Justice, this model
continued on with Chief Justice Rehnquist in the 1980s and continues on today under the current
Chief Justice, John Roberts. However, the crime control model finds some opposition in the
Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan who were appointed by President Obama, these two
Justices tend to lean more towards the due process model. One great example of the due process
model being put into effect can be found in the majority opinion delivered by Justice

Transcendence and Technology in William Gibson s Neuromancer
Transcendence and Technology in Neuromancer
Where do we go from here? Case asks near the conclusion of William Gibson s novel Neuromancer
(259). One answer suggested throughout most of the narrative is nowhere. True, geographically we
are whisked around the urban centers of Earth in the near future, Chiba City, the Sprawl, Istanbul,
and then to the orbital pleasure domes and corporate stronghold of Freeside and Straylight. The
kind of movement to which I am referring is not overtly physical, though. Neuromancer articulates
a motion inward, its attention focused upon subtle interiors; it is implosive rather than expansive,
choosing to examine how technology affects the universe of self, individual consciousness, rather
than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this increasingly sophisticated technology, with the ability to remake the world and ourselves,
Case s question resonates self consciously: where do we go from here? Neuromancer presents
technology in an accelerating culture as a potent force capable of facilitating escape, immersion,
destruction, and even transcendence of self without glamorizing or demonizing technology itself.
Perhaps, in this manner, Gibson is able to posit more than one viable answer to this paralyzing
(peculiarly postmodern) question.
As the gap between present and future grows smaller and becomes difficult to discern, people and
machines overlap and, in some cases, are indistinct or interchangeable. If we move even twenty
minutes into the future (a la Max Headroom [1985]), as Larry McCaffrey states, we will encounter
a world...unimaginably transformed... (9). In this environment, where whole bodies of technique
are supplanted monthly , the soft flesh of the human body becomes a deliberately unsupervised
playground for technology itself (Neuromancer 4,11). Some cybernetic implants, Molly s
mirrorshaded eyes, her retractable razor claws, the brain sockets built to accept microsofts, software
allowing instant access to and mastery of entire worlds of knowledge and skills, offer the promise
of heightened, seemingly superhuman, physical and/or mental abilities. Such prosthetics seek to

Poor Fish
You can t blame gravity for falling in love. This quote from Albert Einstein raises importance to the
universal theme of true love. This theme can be seen in the Italian story Poor Fish, where the main
character had low self esteem. Later in the story, he met a girl named Ida and started gaining more
confidence in himself. Another story that demonstrates true loveis the Chinese The Tall Woman
and Her Short Husband. This story revolves around the lives of a married couple in which the
woman is taller than her spouse. In the story, no one believes that they are in love and they start
suspecting that Mrs. Tall only married for wealth. However, in light of the tragedies that happen,
true love is exemplified in the end. These stories demonstrate... Show more content on

The main character in Poor Fish is has a very low self esteem in the beginning, but after meeting
a woman named Ida his confidence started growing to new levels. Moravia uses inferiority to
describe his individulaity in the story; People never know very much about who they are, nor
about who is inferior to them and who superior. As for me, I went too far in the direction of
thinking myself inferior to everybody (Moravia). The main character soon becomes too over
confident in himself, and this also alters how other people see him. The Whitley Abbey School
District describes the individuality of the main characters in The Tall Woman and Her Short
Husband, [Mrs. Tall] seems to be the opposite of her husband in every respect; tall where he is
short, thin where he is fat, dull where he is bright. The author does this to show that, although they
don t seem suited at all, their genuine love for each other makes physical differences irrelevant
(Whitley Abbey School District). All these physical and emotional differences contribute to their
own uniqueness. They also go on to describe that this is, at heart, a love story, describing a couple
who stick together through thick and thin, who society has made outcasts but who have found
belonging with each other. The two forget about usual conventions in order to best suit

Health Disparities In The Transgender
Transgender is a metaphorical umbrella term that covers a person whose self identification,
anatomy, appearance, manner, and/or expression is different from the sex assigned to them at birth
and does not fit with societies interpretation for the norm of gender roles. Included in the
transgender umbrella are transsexual people, non binary genderidentities, and cross dressing (LGBT
Youth, 2017). Transgenderindividuals are often the target of discrimination, injustice and social
stigma that can lead to negative health outcomes.
Health Disparities The transgender population often have complicated medical needs and encounter
numerous health disparities including discrimination, lack of access to quality health care and
social stigma. Some health disparities include various chronic diseases, cancers, as well as mental
health issues (Vanderbilt University, 2017). Transgender individuals are at increased risk of HIV
infection with their rates being reported over four times the national average of HIV infection, with
higher rates among transgender people of color (Grant, Mottet, Tanis, 2011). In addition, they
usually do not have health insurance (Makadon, 2017) and have a lower probability of preventative
cancer screenings in transgender men (AMSA, 2017).
Specific Health Care Needs Specific health care needs of transgender individuals include conditions
due to hormone treatment. Hormones with the function of delaying puberty, also prevent normal

Modern America s Foundation Consists Of Equality And...
Modern America s foundation consists of equality and their values against discrimination.
However, during the 1900 s equality was not as easy as it is today due to factors such as
individuals viewing themselves as superior to others. According to the Anti Defamation League
(ADL), this is the mentality known as racism. It s defined as the belief that a particular race is
superior or inferior to another, that a person s social and moral traits are predetermined by his or her
inborn biological characteristics... (ADL). The persistence in the 1900 s of White Americans to
hinder blacks from reaching their true equality was dominant in communities, specifically in the
Southern States of the United States. The perception of race by the society and its citizens affected
the lives of blacks, from how they felt, to the nature and the extent in which they participated in
social life. By looking at the film entitled The Great Debaters, we can see that in order to persuade
someone to do something, it is beneficial to create a sense of responsibility; this works because,
making actions seem personally relevant is more effective than a generic response.
Lloyd Bitzer employs that when trying to advocate for change individuals must illustrate a reality
that will enable action. Individuals are often persuaded through measures that provoke a reaction
and an urgency for change in a given situation. Bitzer discusses that a situation, specifically a
rhetorical situation, comes into existence as

A Critical Concerns Surrounding The Tallit s Male...
When we walk into the sanctuary of any synagogue, the first sights we most likely see are the aron
hakodesh, the eternal lamp, and every man in the congregation wearing a tallit, the ritual prayer
shawl worn during weekday and Shabbat morning services. Now, we might also see women
wearing the tallit, too. In more recent years, women in synagogue have begun to wear the tallitas a
movement towards egalitarianism, taking religious practice into their own hands and projecting a
personal style to boot. In this paper, we will explore the critical concerns surrounding the tallit s
male dominated origins, the move by women to wear the tallit on practical and symbolic levels,
and the tallit as a method of personal expression.
The Origins of the Tallit
Based on the sea of tallitot we observe on men and women s shoulders in synagogue, we might think
that the tallit has Biblical roots. Understanding where the tallit, and the commandment to wear it,
come from, however, requires both closer analytical and physical examination. The actual
commandment is to wear tzitzit, or fringes, on the corners of our garments:
Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them throughout their generations
fringes in the corners of their garments, and that they put with the fringe of each corner a thread of
blue. (Numbers 15:38)
This passage, which also appears in the blessings of the Shema, commands the wearing of tzitzit as
a reminder to fulfill the mitzvoth and commandments in

The Challenges Of The Mughal Empire
The Mughal Empire was one of the great dynastic powers of the medieval Islamic world and its
nature has always been of captivating interest to historians of India and Europe alike. Ruling as
large a territory as the Indian subcontinent with such a diversity of people and cultures was an
extremely difficult task for any ruler to accomplish in the Middle Ages. Quite in contrast to their
predecessors, the Mughals created an empire and accomplished what had hitherto seemed possible
for only short periods of time. From the latter half of the sixteenth century they expanded their
kingdom from Agraand Delhi, until in the seventeenth century they controlled nearly all of the
subcontinent. They imposed structures of administration and ideas of governance... Show more

Theory Of Mind
The theory of mind is a concept that is multidimensional and multidirectional. There are many
definitions that exist, but there are some of the key aspects that can be used to create a definition.
The theory of mind can be defined as an ability to acknowledge and understand your own personal
beliefs, knowledge, ideas, perspectives and various mental states such as emotions and levels of
consciousness. A person will use their theory of mindto then apply and understand these aspects
that apply to you and your thoughts are different from other people s, and can thus lead to a sense

During the time that studies had been conducted, several opinions and qualities of the theory of
mind had arisen. Since the concept is so broad, there is not one universal definition that can apply
to this theory, so it has to be clarified by the researcher each time an experiment is conducted. I
believe that there is a substantial amount of evidence on the theory of mind from various global
locations. This evidence could be enough to support my claim that theory of mind is universally
applied. The variations of age when theory of mind develops and how that correlates to a person s
culture, is a topic that has not been researched yet. Researchers, like Ridinger and McBride (2015),
claim that there are extrinsic and therefore cultural values, monetary rewards in their study, that
motivate and stimulate people s theory of mind applications. I disagree and believe there are
intrinsic values that are shaped by environmental influences that cause this. In order to support this
conclusion, I would need an additional source of information. This source would need to be an
empirical article that studied different samples of people from multiple countries. This study would
also need to separate out the participants by age and gender. These categories would help to create
comparisons with the results. The results could help to support or reject my idea that cultural and
environmental influences create a distinction on an individual s theory of mind

Episode 05
An Analysis of Michael Sandel s Justice Can the value of human life be determined by dollars and
cents? Is one life more valuable than another, or can one be tossed aside like the leftover change
someone receives after buying a hamburger from McDonald s? Placing a monetary value on
someone s life is nearly impossible to do, as can be seen in Episode 05 of Michael Sandel s Justice
series. Episode 05 is split into two parts, both involving how to determine if a price can be placed
on the life of a fellow human being. Part one discusses whether or not it is acceptable to pay
someone else to take one s place during military conscription, while part two focuses on whether
or not paying for a surrogate mother or father is in fact a monetary transaction of human life. The
transaction of human life seems to be morally wrong, but at the same time can be justified. Are
human lives simply a figure that can be determined by someone who is paid to see how much
someone is worth, or how much someone will be worth? Although the life of someone can be
objectively valued, a human life should not be monetarily valued for any reason. The first part of
this lecture discussed whether or not someone s draft rights can be sold to another willing to accept
payment for their substitution of service. Sandel states the fact that steel titan, Andrew Carnegie,
sold his draft rights to another citizen to take his place

Prophetic Vision in Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene
In the First Book of The Faerie Queene, Edmund Spenser reveals his prophetic and apocalyptic
vision for the fledgling British Empire, personified in his hero Redcrosse. As the secular instrument
of Gloriana, the Faerie Queene, Redcrosse takes on the sacred task of Una (representing religious
truth) to free her parents, Adam and Eve, from their bonds of sin. Before he can achieve his task,
the Redcrosse knight (representing holiness) must mature as a Christian knight as he and Una
encounter inhabitants of Faerie Land and interact with them. With his allegory, Spenserunveils the

After Redcrosse strangles religious Error at Una s urging and kills the monster with his sword,
Spenser separates Redcrosse and Una by way of Archimago s wicked machinations. Una cycles
through a sequence of traveling companions: a lion, Archimago as false Redcrosse (the Roman
Catholic Church), Sans Loy (a Muslim), satyrs, Satyrane, and Prince Arthur. Spenser implies that
participants of each religion, no matter how primitive, believe its truths are divine. In her latest
incarnation of supreme religious truth, Una needs Gloriana s knight to defeat the dragon of sin, to
obtain Christ s redemption for Adam and Eve and their descendants. While England amasses vast
wealth conquering and colonizing the primitive races, the real battle is not against flesh and blood,
but as Paul stated in his letter to the Ephesians, against principalities (Saracens), powers (Lucifera),
rulers of darkness (Error and Despair) and spiritual wickedness in high places (mythological or
primitive gods demons).
When Redcrosse finally attains sufficient holiness to fight the old serpent (the dragon Satan) of
Revelations, Contemplation takes him to look on the New Jerusalem. Like Jesus, Redcrosse is an
historical human being (Saint George). Unlike the imaginary characters of the poem, Redcrosse is
entitled to everlasting life provided his name is written in the book of life, as stated in

The Issues of Ethics
Issues of Ethics
The two major ethical theories that have the most relevance and prudence to my contemporary
views are utilitarianism and those aligned with the concept of a categorical imperative. The
philosophy of the former of these was widely pioneered by both Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart
Mill. The notion of a categorical imperative was largely popularized by Immanuel Kant. In all
actuality, the efficaciousness of these philosophies is widely determined by the particular moral
dilemma which one is facing. Still, the true value in both of these theories lies in the fact that they
can be applied to a wide variety of situations and help to dictate moral guidance. In many respects,
utilitarianism, which is a branch of philosophy known as consequentialism, presents a diametrically
opposed philosophical stance of that propounded by Kant and his categorical imperative (Boylan,
2009, p. 176). There is an extreme sense of mutability that accompanies the former of these
approaches to ethics, which is attributed to the fact that the behavior that is determined most ethical
depends on the circumstances that result from that behavior. Specifically, the action that produces
the most good, to the most amount of people, is adjudged by utilitarianism to be the proper ethical
decision to make. It is interesting to note that in this philosophy there are varying degrees of good
produced. Quite often, ephemeral good or that which affects a finite amount of people is considered
lesser

Gender Dilance And Imbalance In Virginia Woolf s The Waves
First of all I will start by saying that in this essay I will respond and discuss the gender balance or
imbalance in Virginia Woolf s The Waves. Virginia Woolf was and still is one of the foremost
modernists of the twentieth century. Today in my opinion she is seen as a true and impeccable
writer in regarding the description of women in the Victorian era. The Victorian age, as a patriarchal
society, marginalized and basically destroyed women s position. In Virginia Woolf s The Waves
we can see this difference between man and woman but surprisingly not always. In fact I believe
the Victorian era was like a time of stagnation for women. We have six main characters in The
Waves, three are females and three are males: Susan, Rhoda, Jinny and Bernard, Louis and
Neville. Here we have a balance between genders. Three women and three men but all of them
are different from each other and basically they are three types of Victorian women and men,

By making two characters in the novel fall in love, at first glance unrecognizable from each other
as both of them were introverts and preferred to be left alone. We have a point of normality
between genders. They are the same and so they should be in love. I could agree with this but
reality is cruel and the end is tragic. The difference between Louis and Rhoda or male and female is
that the man had more opportunities and much more support and opportunities in everything at that
time; career, money, education. There is definitely an imbalance between genders in this

Performance Appraisal Standards For Employees
Performance appraisal standards with every company must be objective, realistic, measurable
and clearly stated. In some cases an employee s success can be affected because of poor
management skills, communication skills and poor work environment. These represent barriers
to an employee success. Performance appraisal is a process where employee s performances can
be assessed. This is where the employee will be under review so that they make better judgments
with the evaluation of the employee. The performance appraisal system has to be based on clearly
specified and measurable standards and indicators. (www.fao.org) If the management is not up to

This hospital also wanted patients to receive 24 hour care. During 24 hour care patients would

standards are the performance requirements and expectations that have been approved by the
management team that will be used to appraise the level of performance of the employees. Each
level of performance must be established by the department and must also be included in the
performance expectation plan for the employee. A detailed guide showing the projected
appraisal grade the employee will receive based on their level of performance, from the lowest
appraisal grade, all the way to the top grade of performing beyond the expected performance
level. For the performance standards to be both impartial and beneficial, the performance
standards must be objective, realistic, measurable, and clearly stated on the performance
expectations. The performance standards must also be discussed with the employee before the
appraisal time period and also during the final appraisal at the end of the performance evaluation
period. For the performance standards to be useful, the general measures must be determined to
evaluate the employee s performance. The general measures to be used are: quality, quantity,
timeliness, and cost effectiveness. The quality of the work is based on how accurate and effective

The Monk by Matthew G. Lewis Essay
The Female and Male Gothic in Austen s Northanger Abbey and Lewis The Monk
The gothic novel is characterized by mystery and supernatural fear, usually involving evil villains,
and victimized protagonists. These elements are recognized in both Austen s novel, Northanger
Abbey, and Lewis The Monk. The novels are composed of male and female gothic characteristics,
involved in gendered portrayals of supernatural events. The gothic genre is used in these novels in
unique ways, however they both portray gendered depictions of the gothic genre. Austen and Lewis
use their characters to frame the text, and abide by conventions of the male and female gothic
genres. Through the use of these gendered gothic qualities, they expose how characters, ... Show

Catherine responds, I should be too much frightened to do such a thing (Austen 178). Catherine
identifies with the female gothic here, as she is terrorized by the idea of such events, even though
they are simply made up by the villainous General.
Coinciding with the theme of the damsel in distress is the oppressed female and powerful male in
accordance with the female gothic. When Henry Tilney addresses Catherine, ensuring that there is
no hope of a relationship, she returns to her room. Austen describes Catherine as, most bitterly did
she cry...she hated herself more than she could express (Austen 224). This intense emotional
distress is a characteristic of the female gothic in which sensibility overpowers rationality. Mr.
Tilney holds power over Catherina, as he is her love interest, and destroys any hope of a life
together. Catherine s obsession with Henry s denial is attributed as she, wondered over the
repetition of a disappointment for nine successive mornings (Austen 227). This focus on love rather
than reality is a characteristic of the female gothic, where the powerless heroine is controlled by
sentiments and passion rather than logical dilemmas.
Another element of the female gothic is the explained supernatural, in which ordinary events are
explained by supernatural occurrences, combined with secret passageways within the castle. This is
made evident by Austen in a humorous way, as Catherine walks

Judith Jarvis Thomas A Defense Of Abortion
Abortion, the deliberate termination of the human pregnancy, has been one of the most
controversial topics affecting our society today. There are several reasons as to why a woman
would chose to abort her pregnancy. She may not feel ready to have a baby, or cannot financially
support a new born child. She may be too immature to have a baby, or she s a victim of rape or
incest. No matter what the situation is, if a woman cannot freely make the decision of terminating
an unwanted pregnancy, a health condition which affects her body and possibly her entire life,
then as a human she has lost one of her most basic rights. Whatever public opinion has offered on
the topic, Roe v Wade was the right decision: our supreme court decided that women should... Show

Having an abortion may be a huge stress relief for those women who were victims of rape. In
these tragic situations the victims should not be obligated to have a child. Conceiving a child that
resulted through this horrific circumstance can be a constant reminder to those victims of the
trauma they went through. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information,
among adult women an estimated 32, 101 pregnancies result from rape each year . This is a
significantly large number, victims of rape are already in great distress, fear and grief and after
the trauma they already experienced they should not have the added pressure to be obligated by
society to conceive they do not want to. Rape victims have gone through enough mental trauma
and that their psychological health should be valued more than the right to life of the fetus. It is a
personal decision the victim should be allowed to make without any legal bindings. As quoted by
Dr. David C. Reardon, how can you deny an abortion to a twelve year old girl who is the victim of
incest ? Further elaborating on this argument, in addition to rape victims, abortion may be a huge
stress relief for those women who are dealing with poverty, financial difficulties and emotional
immaturity. Nearly 750,000 teens get pregnant each year, and most these women are still in high
school (Dosomething.org). The shame of being a teen mother, the

The Theory Of Child Rearing
1. Dr. John Watson, in his advocation in favor of nurture stated essentially, as we had discussed
in some of our class sessions, that his approach to child rearing would have a direct impact on
outcomes. It could be argued that child rearing is the one thing that could counter cultural
influences as being more impactful. We discussed closed cultures such as those from the east
where members work in a collectivist way to benefit society as a whole. Then we have the
individualist societies similar to the western cultures where individual achievement for self is
considered to be of more value. Which I believe contributes more to selfishness and an over
emphasis on the aspects of I. This also takes me back to the behavior modification class I had as
an undergraduate. That there are certain ways to behave in different social settings that may be
presented to us on a daily basis. Such as we all behave differently in a social settings such as,
school, work, home, the mall, etc.. Behaviors in one location may be acceptable but not another
location. A good example would be that you can walk around naked in the privacy of your own
home but not at school. While a closed, collectivist culture may look down upon what they may
perceive as negative behaviors of those in their group, other outsiders from other cultures may be
given some slack because they don t know proper behavior, even if they are trying. Those from
these collectivist societies that travel to the west cannot

Literary Analysis Of The Dogs Could Teach Me By Gary Paulsen
Out of the three stories, The Dogs Could Teach Me, The Sniper, and The Flowers, The Dogs
Could Teach Me by Gary Paulsen best demonstrates description. This proves to be true through
Paulsen s consistency of descriptions throughout the entire story, unlike The Sniper. The Dogs
Could Teach Me begins with, There was a point where an old logging trail went through a small,
sharp sided gully a tiny canyon . . . It might have been a game trail that was slightly widened or
an old foot trail that had not caved in. Likewise, Liam O Flaherty starts out The Sniper by
writing, Dublin lay enveloped in darkness but for the dim light of the moon that shone through
fleecy clouds, casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over the streets . . . However, by the
third paragraph of The Sniper O Flaherty scrivens, He was eating a sandwich hungrily. He had
eaten nothing since morning. He had been too excited to eat, while Paulsen continues the same
pattern of writing saying, Later I saw the beauty of it, the falling lobes of blue ice that had
grown as the water froze and refroze, layering on itself. Even though the very beginning of The
Sniper collates with the beginning of The Dogs Could Teach Me, in the sense that both writers
start out with very strong descriptions, Paulsen s portrayals become more powerful because of
how consistent they are. Between Paulsen and O Flaherty s pieces of writing above, the reader
gains a clearer picture of the ambience surrounding Paulsen in The Dogs Could Teach Me than
of O Flaherty s character eating a sandwich due to the shift of focus O Flaherty decides to take.
Paulsen s main goal out of the two examples above was very evidently to describe these
situations, howbeit, O Flaherty s was not. Since the author of The Sniper decides to turn to action
based writing instead of creating vivid pictures in the third paragraph, it causes The Dogs Could
Teach Me to become a better example of descriptionthan The Sniper.
Paulsen also chooses to incorporate a variety of figurative language into the short story The Dogs
Could Teach Me, whereas the author of The Flowers does not, taking Paulsen s descriptions to the
next level . For instance, a simile that appears in

emotional obligations. (Volker 126) She, as a child, ignores most of what s going on so that no
emotional harm is done to her. Jenny exclaimed: We made it didn t we? We did grow up. Why, the
three of us turned out fine. , as if she has no regrets nor has made no mistakes. This shows how she
ignores and avoided emotional conflict throughout her life.
Pearl often wondered how other families worked and why hers didn t. At one point late in life
she indulges in the signal act of idealization imagining the lives of other, happy families (Voelker
128). She always kept outsiders out of the lives of the Tulls. She did this for two reasons. The
first was so no one could see their problems and the second was so her children couldn t see what
they were missing.
Closed families produce people less socially and personally satisfied. For instance, the son or

  • 2. Women And Leadership Title: Women and leadership female style or male style? The Pitch: The debate about the difference in leadership style of women and men continues to attract attention since women make strides into leadership position dominated mainly by men. Men have long been holding these leadership roles and have defined styles accepted by people. Therefore, it is not surprising that women are usual the focus in terms of the discussion on gender difference in leadership styles. There seems to be great disagreement about the behaviour of women and men actually performing such roles (Eagly, 2001). This disagreement on this focus can be divided into two groups. One is the no difference camp, who commonly agreed that there are few differenced in the leadership style of female and male leaders. The other is the gender stereotypic camp who believed the existence of crucial differences in the leadership style between both (Alvesson, 2009). Leadership style is usually viewed as relatively stable patterns of behavior that are represented by leaders. In the circumstance of leadership, agentic and communal features seem especially relevant. For example, agentic features such as independent, dominant and competitive are more attached to men than to women. While communal features such as helpful, kind, gentle, sympathetic and personal sensitive are strongly occupied by women than men (Eagly, 2003). In addition, according to Eagly and Johannesen Schmidt (2001), the difference between agentic and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Catalyst Archetype With an even shorter arc than The Loyalist, The Catalyst inhibits the protagonist s Two Face nature before disappearing and requesting something from the protagonist. The Catalyst is almost always present whenever a Two Face archetype is present in a story, but cannot exist without the Two Face. In Doki Doki Literature Club, the Catalyst is the protagonist s childhood friend, Sayori, who eventually hangs herself. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, the Catalyst is Sybil Vane, who eventually ingests poison and dies. For the plot to progress, The Catalyst must somehow disappear from the story, though they might disappear in different ways or for different reasons. Both Sayori and Sybil die by suicide, but complete suicide for different reasons. Sayori... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A similarity between Sybil and Sayori is, before their death, both characters beg something from the Two Face. Sybil begs Dorian Gray to give her another chance to act well if he does not leave her. Sayori asks for the player to care for the other girls in the club and not care for her. The archetype of The Catalyst slowly loses power over The Two Face, making the archetype appealing to audiences and a good foundation for writers as a starting point for stories; however, the character exhibiting the archetype must not remain in the story for too long else risking the piece boring the audience. For Sayori and Sybil, their demise is their suicide, after believing the reaction from The Player and Dorian is a punishment. Sybil s punishment is from disappointing Dorian with her bad acting and Sayori s punishment is from sharing her depression and the player wanting to show affection towards Sayori. While the circumstances of The Catalyst s punishment changes, the ending result of the Catalyst s death drives the protagonist to develop their Two Face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Hydraulic Fracturing Is Not The Only Cause For Ethical... Hydraulic fracturing is not the only cause for ethical concern. Mountaintop removal for the purposes of coal mining is an incredibly harmful procedure taking place on our planet. This destructive action being taken by companies looking to access coal underneath mountains is not only damaging to the earth and environment, but is also affecting humans who live near these sites (The Destructive Process of Mountaintop Removal). Companies is West Virginia and Kentucky can take virtually any mountain they choose and level it because laws are created in the favor of coal mining companies. The process of mountaintop removal is a drawn out process that eventually leaves the earth it is leveling unusable. First, the mountain is cleared of trees, plants, and topsoil. The trees below are often cleared as well to make room for the rubble that will take their place. The next step involves blasting the top of the mountain. Ammonium nitrate explosives are used to blast through up to 1,000 feet of the mountain in order to access coal seams (The Destructive Process of Mountaintop Removal). During this time dust and toxic chemicals like silica, fall over surrounding areas sometimes even neighborhoods and communities. As noted before, silica is known to cause the lung disease silicosis, so it is disturbing that one of these removal sites is within several hundred yards of an elementary school (Hoffman). After blasting, the coal companies dig through the debris with enormous machines. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Pros And Consequences Of The Revolutionary War The CPM had learnt from bitter experience to become smarter, more subtle and sophisticated, more pragmatic and aware of its limitations and by withdrawing modestly to the background, Too commented. (7) From there, it directed and manipulated ambitious and unscrupulous surrogates to create trouble, thus making it extremely difficult for the security agencies to identify and take proper action against such communist agents. When sufficient trouble had been created, even by apparently non communists or anti communists, a revolutionary situation would be created and the time would become ripe for the revolutionary struggle once more. This is another reason why the CPM insisted on keeping its armed struggle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the contradictions within the ruling reactionary cliques (echoing social upheavals ), the CPM looked forward to a new revolutionary storm ominous words reminiscent of its June 1968 message which had presaged the outbreak of the second insurgency (1968 1980). In a more militant editorial broadcast on the 37th anniversary of its post war insurrection on June 1985, the CPM again spoke with a forked tongue, talking peace and calling for war. (11) The editorial called for continuing the revolutionary war in so called defence of democracy and freedom against the guns and cannons of a handful of reactionaries supported by the British imperialists. Its objective was to achieve a new leap forward (Mao s language). The CPM also called for popular resistance to stop the counter revolutionary war. In other words, the Government should stop its anti insurgent operations while the CPM was planning for another revolutionary war and a return to full scale armed conflict (what the Government side would call Emergency III), hopefully with some popular ... • 6. Effects Of Cultural Imperialism In Nepal The fact of the culture of a large and powerful country, organization, etc. having a great influence on another less powerful country, etc: is known as cultural imperialism.(Cambridge) .There are many ways in which a stronger country can have power over a weaker one, however, in the 21st century, cultural imperialism is the most effective and easily applicable. Spreading one s own influence over other s takes time. For the past many years, the U.S. has had a very powerful influence on many countries of North America, Europe and Asia, including Nepal. There are many factors that contribute to the ever so definite cultural imperialism of the U.S seen in Nepal. The expansion of media, which includes Hollywood and television, preference to American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is very common for the nepalese students to go abroad for studies after finishing their high school. And the country that most of the students choose to go to is america. In my own school, I saw many of my seniors leaving for the U.S. after their high school was over. No one would be surprised to hear the students say that they were leaving their home country and going to the U.S. to pursue higher education. The juniors would be desirous and show their desire to go abroad to study. The main reasons that promote going abroad to pursue higher educatio, especially to the U.S, are (1) the absorptive capacity of American higher education, (2) the quality of American higher education, (3) the complementarity of Asian demand and American supply and (4) the opportunities provided in American higher education to cover educational costs through part time work.( Context Author(s): William K. First, definitions for politics and gender will be established in order to analyze Scott s claim. Second, what Scott meant by the claimpolitics constructs gender will be illustrated. Third, the contradictory claim gender constructs politics by JoanScott will be explained. Finally, this paper will evaluate why it is important for historians to be attentive to both the notion that politics constructs gender and gender constructs politics. The usefulness of Scott s claim on our understanding of both politics and gender will also be examined. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both politics (all relationships involving unequal distributions of power) and gender involve cultural definitions and as a result politics and gender have influence on each other. Historians, as Joan Scott states, must be aware the influence that politics and gender have on one another in order to create a complete, accurate history. The idea that historians should be aware that politics constructs gender in the first part of Scott s claim seems logical. In order to understand why it is important for historians to be attentive to the idea that politics constructs gender it must be demonstrated what Joan Scott meant by this claim. All relationships can be defined by their respective balance of power. There is either an equal balance of power or there is an unequal balance of power. Relationships that have an unequal balance of power, as Joan Scott defines, involve politics. It can be generalized that in order to maintain power those with influence create rules or perform actions that seek to sustain their authority. The rules and actions do not have to be formal and include methods such as labeling individuals, biological groups, or socially created groups such as gender. Over time, gender type has been associated, or labeled, with power by those who have the power. As the balances of power change over time, the rules and actions towards those ... Anatomical MRI We applied automated tools to correct for large scale variations in image intensities30 and to remove extracerebral tissue31. We then removed connecting dura manually on each slice in the sagittal, axial, and coronal views. We first coregistered all participant brains to an initial template using a similarity transform that maximized mutual information32 and then applied a high dimensional, nonrigid fluid flow algorithm33 to warp each brain to the exact size and shape of the template brain. Brain tissue was segmented as gray and white matter with a semi automated method... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We applied spectral fitting to the frequency domain signal to identify peaks for N acetyl aspartate (NAA), creatine+phosphocreatine (Cr), choline containing compounds (Ch), and glutamate+glutamine (Glx). We modeled the spectrum for those peaks with Gaussian Lorentzian curves, which were fitted to the data using a least squares curve fitting routine. The areas under the fitted curves estimated concentrations of the metabolites in each voxel of the brain. We performed quality control of the data by visually assessing the spectrum in each MRS voxel and rejected data from voxels with strong lipid contamination, insufficient suppression of residual water, unresolved Cr and Ch peaks, or full width at half maximum 12 Hz for the peaks. We then computed background noise for the MR spectrum as the standard deviation of the real part of the complex spectrum free from the metabolite signal, and then computed the signal to noise ratio (SNR) for each metabolite level. The average SNR for NAA was greater than 280, an excellent SNR attributable to use of the 8 channel head coil. We then generated a spectroscopic image (SI) for each metabolite as the ratio of peak area to background noise for each MRS voxel in the brain. Taking the ratio of the peak area to the background noise accounted for variations in receiver and transmitter gain across scans. We subsequently processed the spectroscopic images to correct for both partial volume effects within each MRS voxel and the dispersion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Code Duello Research Paper During many duels, the opponents follow Code Duello . In the book by Ellis, Code duello is followed in one of the most historically and influential American duels. This duel helped change the views of many people. This duel is important historically and politically. Therefore, this duel is important for the shaping of America. Even politicians get into fights after their arguments. However, during the colonial periods, these fights were known as duels. One of the most famous duels is mentioned in the book and is between Aaron Burrand Alexander Hamilton. The duelhas certain rules to keep injury as minimal as possible. As well as to prevent any arguments or battles between families or political parties. There are many different versions on how the duel happened. The most well known one starts off like this On the morning of July 11, 1804, Arron Burr and Alexander Hamilton were rowed across the Hudson River in separate boats to a secluded spot near Weehawken, New Jersey.(page 20,p1,1 3). • 10. Case Control Study Discussion In recent years, it has been suggested that miRNAs act as key regulators of gene expression networks. Like other genes, single nucleotide polymorphism in miRNA genes can affects their function at different levels, such as miRNA transcription, maturation and target specificity. Our study is the first report of mir 23a, mir155 and mir 196a2 polymorphism in the iranian MS patients. In this case control study we examined the impact of functional mir 155 rs767649, mir196a2 rs11614913 and miR 23a rs3745453 polymorphism on MS risk in a sample of Isfahan population. Furthermore, Mi et al. in their study showed that miR 23a was among several other miRNAs that have been differentially expressed between acute myeloid leukemia (AMLs) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALLs). In addition, up regulation of miR 23a/b along with miR 24 has also been identified in osteoblast cell line (20,21). An exonic MiR 155 with rs767649 (T/A) polymorphism in the upstream region of the pre miR 155 gene is transcribed from the B cell integration cluster (BIC) that is located on chromosome 21. It has been suggested that miR155 modulate host antiviral immune response by elevating type I IFN signaling. Furthermore, dysregulation of miR 155 has been reported in viral infections and different cancers. • 11. Essay on Luaghing Comedy-Oliver Goldsmith The Theatre, like all other amusements, has its fashions and its prejudices, and when satiated with its excellence, mankind begin to mistake change for improvement. For some years tragedy was the reigning entertainment, but of late it has entirely given way to comedy, and our best efforts are now exerted in these lighter kinds of composition. The pompous train, the swelling phrase, and the unnatural rant, are displaced for that natural portrait of human folly and frailty, of which all are judges, because all have sat for the picture. But as in describing nature it is presented with a double face, either of mirth or sadness, our modern writers find themselves at a loss which chiefly to copy from, and it is now debated, whether the... In these plays almost all the characters are good, and exceedingly generous; they are lavish enough of their tin money on the stage, and though they want humor, have abundance of sentiment and feeling. If they happen to have faults or foibles, the spectator is taught not only to pardon, but to applaud them, in consideration of the goodness of their hearts; so that folly, instead of being ridiculed, is commended, and the comedy aims at touching our passions, without the power of being truly pathetic. In this manner we are likely to lose one great source of entertainment on the stage; for while the comic poet is invading the province of the tragic muse, he leaves her lovely sister quite neglected. Of this, however, he is no way solicitous, as he measures his fame by his profits. But it will be said, that the theatre is formed to amuse mankind, and that it matters little, if this end be answered, by what means it is obtained. If mankind find delight in weeping at comedy, it would be cruel to abridge them in that or any other innocent pleasure. If those pieces are denied the name of comedies, yet call them by any other name, and if they are delightful, they are good. Their success, it will be said, is a mark of their merit, and it is only abridging our happiness to deny us an inlet to amusement. These objections, however, are rather specious than solid. It is true, that amusement is a great object at a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

INTRODUCTION: Family therapy is a psychotherapeutic treatment of the family to bring about better psychological functioning. It is a highly flexible psychotherapeutic approach applicable to a wide range of child focused and adult focused problems. Family therapy has been viewed as a powerful, fast and effective method of achieving change within the family (PoinВ¬ton, 2006). Definition of family therapy: Gurman, Kniskern, and Pinsof (1986) defined family therapy as any psychotherapeutic endeavor that explicitly focuses on altering the interactions between or among family members; and seeks to improve the functioning of the family as a unit, or its subsystems, and/or the functioning of individual members of the family . Sholevar (2003) defines family therapy as any use of a family focused intervention to bring out behavioral and/or attiВ¬tudinal changes in one or more family members. In fact, before humanity was even created, God is recorded as saying in Genesis, Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness...(Holy Bible). Godintentionally placed his own likeness into all of humanity. Consequently, as Bufford (2007) states, it seems every human life has significance and worth intrinsically woven into it. The purpose of this inventory is to evaluate the students academic stress that comes from their own expectations as well as those around them (Huan, See, Ang, Har, 2008). The AESI consists of nine items as well as two subscales that consist of expectations of self and of parent/teachers. Items are measured on a Likert scale ranging from 1 (never true) to 5 (almost always true). An example of the subscale from expectations of parents/teachers would be, I blame myself when I cannot live up to my parents expectations of me . An example of the subscale from expectations of self would be, I feel stressed when I do not live up to my own standards . The Mona Lisa One of my most favorite paintings in the history of Western art must be the Mona Lisa. This sixteenth century oil painting is one of the world s most famous paintings. It was painted by the famous Italian painter, architect, sculpture, draftsman, and engineer Leonardo da Vinci. It is well known that the Mona Lisa painting is portrayed as the most visited, viewed, written, and sung about painting in the world. This portrait took Leonardo da Vinci about three to four years to complete. Mona Lisa is said to be one of his favorite art work; therefore, he took his time painting and finishing it. The Mona Lisa represents a composition with an immense value. The subject of the painting itself is mysterious; therefore, the fascination and interest in da Vinci s work attracted millions across the world. This caused a huge interest in the audience because the Mona Lisa has no identity. Everyone is curious and inquisitive to know who this beautiful woman is. Until this day, no one really knows the real identity of Mona Lisa. In addition, the smile on the face of the woman in the painting caused mixed thoughts. After the government stated that the material was from a weather balloon, some people thought it was a cover up for what it actually was. A double blind placebo controlled study showed that GH with or without sex steroids in salubrious women and men aged 65 88 years incremented lean body mass and decremented fat mass. • 20. Due Process Model And Crime Control Model The two models that we have encountered in this class are the due process model and the law and order, or the crime control model. The due process model can be observed, most famously, during the Warren Court in the 1960s, during Warren s time as Chief Justice the court was most concerned with protecting and extending the rights of the accused. The due process model puts more strain on the prosecution to prove that the criminal s rights were not infringed upon and that he actually committed the crime. In contrast, the crime control model is most concerned with lowering crime and deterring future criminals by prosecuting and processing criminals and cases as fast as possible. In some ways, this model resembles an assembly line, in the sense that it attempts to process cases as quickly and efficiently as possible. This model is much more concerned with convictions rather than upholding the rights of the accused. It is most prevalent starting in the late 1960s when Nixon appointed Warren Burger as Chief Justice, this model continued on with Chief Justice Rehnquist in the 1980s and continues on today under the current Chief Justice, John Roberts. However, the crime control model finds some opposition in the Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan who were appointed by President Obama, these two Justices tend to lean more towards the due process model. Perhaps, in this manner, Gibson is able to posit more than one viable answer to this paralyzing (peculiarly postmodern) question. However, during the 1900 s equality was not as easy as it is today due to factors such as individuals viewing themselves as superior to others. It s defined as the belief that a particular race is superior or inferior to another, that a person s social and moral traits are predetermined by his or her inborn biological characteristics... When we walk into the sanctuary of any synagogue, the first sights we most likely see are the aron hakodesh, the eternal lamp, and every man in the congregation wearing a tallit, the ritual prayer shawl worn during weekday and Shabbat morning services. Now, we might also see women wearing the tallit, too. In more recent years, women in synagogue have begun to wear the tallitas a movement towards egalitarianism, taking religious practice into their own hands and projecting a personal style to boot. In this paper, we will explore the critical concerns surrounding the tallit s male dominated origins, the move by women to wear the tallit on practical and symbolic levels, and the tallit as a method of personal expression. The Origins of the Tallit Based on the sea of tallitot we observe on men and women s shoulders in synagogue, we might think that the tallit has Biblical roots. Understanding where the tallit, and the commandment to wear it, come from, however, requires both closer analytical and physical examination. The actual commandment is to wear tzitzit, or fringes, on the corners of our garments: Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them throughout their generations fringes in the corners of their garments, and that they put with the fringe of each corner a thread of blue. There are many definitions that exist, but there are some of the key aspects that can be used to create a definition. The theory of mind can be defined as an ability to acknowledge and understand your own personal beliefs, knowledge, ideas, perspectives and various mental states such as emotions and levels of consciousness. A person will use their theory of mindto then apply and understand these aspects that apply to you and your thoughts are different from other people s, and can thus lead to a sense of empathy and understanding. During the time that studies had been conducted, several opinions and qualities of the theory of mind had arisen. Since the concept is so broad, there is not one universal definition that can apply to this theory, so it has to be clarified by the researcher each time an experiment is conducted. I believe that there is a substantial amount of evidence on the theory of mind from various global locations. This evidence could be enough to support my claim that theory of mind is universally applied. The variations of age when theory of mind develops and how that correlates to a person s culture, is a topic that has not been researched yet. Researchers, like Ridinger and McBride (2015), claim that there are extrinsic and therefore cultural values, monetary rewards in their study, that motivate and stimulate people s theory of mind applications. I disagree and believe there are intrinsic values that are shaped by environmental influences that cause this. In order to support this conclusion, I would need an additional source of information. This source would need to be an empirical article that studied different samples of people from multiple countries. This study would also need to separate out the participants by age and gender. These categories would help to create comparisons with the results. The results could help to support or reject my idea that cultural and environmental influences create a distinction on an individual s theory of mind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Castro Professor Iyer Pol 1 10 October 2014 Episode 05 An Analysis of Michael Sandel s Justice Can the value of human life be determined by dollars and cents? Is one life more valuable than another, or can one be tossed aside like the leftover change someone receives after buying a hamburger from McDonald s? Placing a monetary value on someone s life is nearly impossible to do, as can be seen in Episode 05 of Michael Sandel s Justice series. Episode 05 is split into two parts, both involving how to determine if a price can be placed on the life of a fellow human being. Part one discusses whether or not it is acceptable to pay someone else to take one s place during military conscription, while part two focuses on whether or not paying for a surrogate mother or father is in fact a monetary transaction of human life. The transaction of human life seems to be morally wrong, but at the same time can be justified. Are human lives simply a figure that can be determined by someone who is paid to see how much someone is worth, or how much someone will be worth? Although the life of someone can be objectively valued, a human life should not be monetarily valued for any reason. The first part of this lecture discussed whether or not someone s draft rights can be sold to another willing to accept payment for their substitution of service. As the secular instrument of Gloriana, the Faerie Queene, Redcrosse takes on the sacred task of Una (representing religious truth) to free her parents, Adam and Eve, from their bonds of sin. Before he can achieve his task, the Redcrosse knight (representing holiness) must mature as a Christian knight as he and Una encounter inhabitants of Faerie Land and interact with them. Spenser implies that participants of each religion, no matter how primitive, believe its truths are divine. In her latest incarnation of supreme religious truth, Una needs Gloriana s knight to defeat the dragon of sin, to obtain Christ s redemption for Adam and Eve and their descendants. • 36. The Issues of Ethics Issues of Ethics The two major ethical theories that have the most relevance and prudence to my contemporary views are utilitarianism and those aligned with the concept of a categorical imperative. The philosophy of the former of these was widely pioneered by both Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill. The notion of a categorical imperative was largely popularized by Immanuel Kant. In all actuality, the efficaciousness of these philosophies is widely determined by the particular moral dilemma which one is facing. Still, the true value in both of these theories lies in the fact that they can be applied to a wide variety of situations and help to dictate moral guidance. In many respects, utilitarianism, which is a branch of philosophy known as consequentialism, presents a diametrically opposed philosophical stance of that propounded by Kant and his categorical imperative (Boylan, 2009, p. 176). There is an extreme sense of mutability that accompanies the former of these approaches to ethics, which is attributed to the fact that the behavior that is determined most ethical depends on the circumstances that result from that behavior. Specifically, the action that produces the most good, to the most amount of people, is adjudged by utilitarianism to be the proper ethical decision to make. It is interesting to note that in this philosophy there are varying degrees of good produced. Quite often, ephemeral good or that which affects a finite amount of people is considered lesser ... Virginia Woolf was and still is one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century. Today in my opinion she is seen as a true and impeccable writer in regarding the description of women in the Victorian era. The Victorian age, as a patriarchal society, marginalized and basically destroyed women s position. In Virginia Woolf s The Waves we can see this difference between man and woman but surprisingly not always. In fact I believe the Victorian era was like a time of stagnation for women. We have six main characters in The Waves, three are females and three are males: Susan, Rhoda, Jinny and Bernard, Louis and Neville. Here we have a balance between genders. Three women and three men but all of them are different from each other and basically they are three types of Victorian women and men, each taking their one path in life. Rhoda is dreamy and quiet, withdrawn so much from the reality of the world the other live in. She is in my words in another world . We discussed closed cultures such as those from the east where members work in a collectivist way to benefit society as a whole. Then we have the individualist societies similar to the western cultures where individual achievement for self is considered to be of more value. Which I believe contributes more to selfishness and an over emphasis on the aspects of I. This also takes me back to the behavior modification class I had as an undergraduate. That there are certain ways to behave in different social settings that may be presented to us on a daily basis. Such as we all behave differently in a social settings such as, school, work, home, the mall, etc.. Behaviors in one location may be acceptable but not another location. A good example would be that you can walk around naked in the privacy of your own home but not at school. While a closed, collectivist culture may look down upon what they may perceive as negative behaviors of those in their group, other outsiders from other cultures may be given some slack because they don t know proper behavior, even if they are trying. Those from these collectivist societies that travel to the west cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Cowboys) One of the most powerful marketing strategies used by the Dallas Cowboys occurred in 1995, when owner Jerry Jones entered into multi million dollar sponsorship agreements with American Express, Pepsi and Nike through Texas Stadium Corporation. Later that year, Jones was served with a $300 million lawsuit filed by NFL Properties. The lawsuit claims included violations of the Lanham Act, breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith, unjust enrichment, and tortious interference with contractual rights (Jessop, 2013). Jones filed a motion to dismiss. The motion was granted in part. Jones then filed a $750 million antitrust lawsuit against the league. This legal action put the Cowboys in position to become the most valuable NFL franchise. Jones antitrust lawsuit forced the NFL to settle (Jessop, 2013). • 51. Literary Analysis Of The Dogs Could Teach Me By Gary Paulsen Out of the three stories, The Dogs Could Teach Me, The Sniper, and The Flowers, The Dogs Could Teach Me by Gary Paulsen best demonstrates description. This proves to be true through Paulsen s consistency of descriptions throughout the entire story, unlike The Sniper. The Dogs Could Teach Me begins with, There was a point where an old logging trail went through a small, sharp sided gully a tiny canyon . . . It might have been a game trail that was slightly widened or an old foot trail that had not caved in. Likewise, Liam O Flaherty starts out The Sniper by writing, Dublin lay enveloped in darkness but for the dim light of the moon that shone through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over the streets . . . However, by the third paragraph of The Sniper O Flaherty scrivens, He was eating a sandwich hungrily. He had eaten nothing since morning. He had been too excited to eat, while Paulsen continues the same pattern of writing saying, Later I saw the beauty of it, the falling lobes of blue ice that had grown as the water froze and refroze, layering on itself. Even though the very beginning of The Sniper collates with the beginning of The Dogs Could Teach Me, in the sense that both writers start out with very strong descriptions, Paulsen s portrayals become more powerful because of how consistent they are. Between Paulsen and O Flaherty s pieces of writing above, the reader gains a clearer picture of the ambience surrounding Paulsen in The Dogs Could Teach Me than of O Flaherty s character eating a sandwich due to the shift of focus O Flaherty decides to take. Paulsen s main goal out of the two examples above was very evidently to describe these situations, howbeit, O Flaherty s was not. Since the author of The Sniper decides to turn to action based writing instead of creating vivid pictures in the third paragraph, it causes The Dogs Could Teach Me to become a better example of descriptionthan The Sniper. Paulsen also chooses to incorporate a variety of figurative language into the short story The Dogs Could Teach Me, whereas the author of The Flowers does not, taking Paulsen s descriptions to the next level . For instance, a simile that appears in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ezra creates and manages a restaurant that corrects the excessive closeness of his family with an atmosphere that consoles the customer while making no demands. (Volker 126) This was his idealistic home. Jenny, the youngest, becomes a pediatrician, a professional mother, who can avoid stifling emotional obligations. (Volker 126) She, as a child, ignores most of what s going on so that no emotional harm is done to her. Jenny exclaimed: We made it didn t we? We did grow up. Why, the three of us turned out fine. , as if she has no regrets nor has made no mistakes. This shows how she ignores and avoided emotional conflict throughout her life. Pearl often wondered how other families worked and why hers didn t. At one point late in life she indulges in the signal act of idealization imagining the lives of other, happy families (Voelker 128). She always kept outsiders out of the lives of the Tulls. She did this for two reasons. The first was so no one could see their problems and the second was so her children couldn t see what they were missing. Closed families produce people less socially and personally satisfied. For instance, the son or daughter in a family business may tell the parent what to do with the business, but their relationship problem is never really resolved. It is just ...
