Causes And Effects Of Solar Storms
A solar storm with that classification can produce long lasting radiation storms which can damage
satellites and even damage influence airline passengers that fly near the polls. The small radiation
doses produced as well by X class flares also hold the potential to create global transmission problems
and worldwide blackouts. When solar flares are produced from the sun, radiation is emitted across the
entire electromagnetic spectrum, starting at radio waves at the long end of the spectrum to x ray and
gamma rays at the short wavelength end. The beta and gamma radiation produced from the solar flare
influence the semiconductors present in most electronic systems in today s technology. When the
radiation passes through the semiconductor is can have two major effects: one is to make electron hole
pairs which may create soft errors and, if the radiation is produced in a sufficient amount permanent
damage can be caused by creating large numbers of charges with sufficient energy injected into silicon
dioxide regions and change the characteristics of the transistor. Not only can solar radiation damage
small components but can damage a large part of the power grid. When a geomagnetic storm hits the
earth the produced electromagnetic energy from the solar wind causes geomagnetically induced
currents. This is similar to the process of when an electrical generator produces electricity, the currents
produced by the solar storm are a geo electric field but have a magnetic field the same

History of the Refrigerator Essay
History of the Refrigerator
Back in time a long time ago, around 500 B.C. the Egyptians and Indians made ice on cold nights by
setting water out in earthenware pots and keeping the pots wet. In the 18th century England, servants
collected ice in the winter and put it into icehouses, where the sheets of ice were packed in salt,
wrapped in strips of flannel and stored underground to keep them frozen until summer. Before the
refrigerator or ice box was introduced people used snow and ice to keep their food cool, which was
either found locally or brought down from the mountains. Cellars and caves were also used to
refrigerate food. Meat and fish were preserved in warm weather by salting or smoking. The first
cellars were holes dug ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compressed ether machines were built in Pennsylvania by Oliver Evans in 1805 and in Australia by
James Harrison in 1855, and Dr. John Gorrie in Florida built an expanding air cooling machine in
1844. In 1851 Dr. John Gorrie created the first commercial ice making machine to cool the air for his
yellow fever patients. Soon thereafter, refrigeration and freezing became popular methods of
preserving foods for transport or storage, and in place where natural ice was not available.
Refrigeration is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space, or from a substance, to lower its
temperature. A refrigerator uses the evaporation of a liquid to absorb heat. The liquid, or refrigerant
used in a refrigerator evaporates at an extremely low temperature creating freezing temperatures inside
the refrigerator.
William Cullen at the University of Glasgow demonstrated the first known artificial refrigeration in
1748. However, he did not use his discovery for any practical purpose. In 1805, an American inventor,
Oliver Evans, designed the first refrigerator machine.
The development of mechanical refrigeration systems began in the early19th century and arose mainly
from the needs of meat producers in the USA, South America, Australia and New Zealand, who were
facing many difficulties in shipping their produce to their export markers in Europe. Many
experimental systems were built in the 1830s, utilizing the cooling effect produced by the expansion

The Negative Impact Of Social Media s Impact On Our Lives
The social media is one of the important technological innovations in human history. The use of the
social media helps us do many of our tasks with more ease and in less time. On the other hand, it has
some adverse effects on today s human life like addiction, obesity and other health problems. There
are several ways that prove social media improved the way we communicate with each other,
including feasibility of voice and video calls, ability share information to each other and increase
motivation for all the students. The first way that the social media affects our lives is the feasibility of
voice and video calls. For instance, people who live far from their loved ones definitely know the
value of this tools. Today, for example, Facebook has made it possible for people living in two
different countries to see and talk to each other, which is something that no one could even imagine to
do a century ago. They can use video conferencing facilities to work with each other without having
an office or meeting face to face. It has changed the way people communicate and how they react to
being away from their homes and their loved ones. So, some people believe these services are useful
because they let people be more widely connected with other countries. Another instance, when I was
far away from my sister, so I used Facebook and Telegram to see my sister that was so pleasant for us.
The second reason, that social media is very important technology for communicate with each

The Proxy War And The Korean War
Proxy Wars.
In the 1947 the Cold war began with two superpowers, the United States and the USSR interested in
Eastern Europe. Different Ideologies Communism and Capitalism became the issues in different
countries. They fought over which countries would go to communism or capitalism. These countries
included Greece and Turkey, the Suez crisis, The Vietnam war and one of the biggest proxy wars that
still have tension today, the Korean War. The Korean war between communist north Korea and their
allies were the USSR and China while South Korea was an ally of the United States. The war started
in June of 1950 through July 1953, even though it lasted 3 years it became one of the deadliest wars in
modern history, US believed that if the USSR were to take Korea that Ÿ of the world would become
communism and so through the US containment policy, they became involved so communism would
not spread.
The reason the United states decided to take action was because a non communist country was getting
attacked by a communist country and their duty was to interfere and stop the attack. The soviets also
wanted to intervene in countries like Greece and Turkey. This brought up the Marshall plan. The
Marshall plan was a European Recovery Program that gave assistance to European countries to help
them grow and prevent communism. The US also brought in the Truman Doctrine which was an
American external dogma to counter the spread of USSR political ideas such as communism.
Therefore, As Soviets

The Importance Of An Exemplary Person In Confucius
The exemplary person (junzi) is someone who is worthy of leadership and respect. To do one s utmost
(zhong), observing ritual propriety (li), practicing filial piety (xiao), knowing what is appropriate (yi)
and having a deep love of learning (haoxne) are crucial aspect to becoming such a commanding and
versatile individual. These qualities, however, do not come easily as the way (dao) requires the types
of habits and commitments that the average person would normally find excessive. Nevertheless, for
those did who managed to persevere they found themselves walking the path towards harmony.
Although some may have achieved harmony, the questions must be asked: how and why did these
seemingly arbitrary ideas work? How does loving to learn and doing ones duty make a person
exemplary? For Confucius this was no easy task to explain. Compounding the issue further is that
many may find contradictions within the Analects itself. Despite this, these qualities do promote the
type of virtues that, in mind of Confucius at least, can create what some many consider to be an
exemplary person.
Doing one s utmost is something many may think comes naturally. This direct approach may seem
easy on the surface, nonetheless, for Confucius doing ones utmost requires a much more nuanced
approach. It is not enough for the exemplary person to do their best, but they must also aim to help
their peers, community and superiors. When ritual propriety is observed and the exemplary person is

Basic Financial Statements Under Generally Accepted...
Understanding Basic Financial Statements Companies report their financial activities in four basic
financial statements under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The four basic financial
statements are as listed below: 1. The balance sheet shows in a tabular form, the asset, liability and
owners equity of a company, at a particular time. The assets of a company will always equal to the
sum of liabilities and owners equity, this is called the accounting equation. i.e Asset = liability +
Owners Equity 2. The income statement gives details of executed transactions which contributed
positively or negatively to the owners equity. These transactions can bring about an increase or
reduction in the owners equity. The income ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every transaction, because of its financial impact, affects the financial statements of the business.
Financial statements can be prepared after 1, 2, or any number of transactions. Every transaction has
two sides: the giving side and the receiving side The record used to capture events that has financial
impact on each asset, liability, and stockholders equity is called the account. The account is the basic
summary device of accounting. An account is the record of all the changes in a particular asset,
liability, or stockholders equity during a period. Assets can be defined as economic resources owned
or controlled by the firm that deliver a future benefit for a business. They are acquired by the firm as a
result of a past event or transaction. Assets that can be converted to cash within a short term like cash
at hand/bank, inventories, are call short term or current assets. Property, plant and equipment are
categorized as long term asset The following asset accounts are mostly used: Cash, Accounts
Receivable. Notes Receivable, Inventory, Prepaid Expenses. Land, Buildings, Equipment, Furniture,
and Fixtures. Liabilities is a debt. An obligation to another party is a liability. The most common types
of liabilities include: Accounts Payable, Notes Payable, and Accrued Liabilities. Liabilities arises from

Reflection Of The Incredibles
The Incredibles is more than a hero s journey; it also explores the ties between faith and family.
Although watching this movie does not reveal this fact immediately, we can understand this film
through a deep understanding and knowledge of Ostwalt s theory in his journal, Religion Popular
Movies. To begin, Ostwalt outlines three categories in which films can fall into: theological,
mythological and ideological. These three categories are intrinsic in nature making sense semantically
but Ostwalt delves deeper into the meanings in his journal and describes instances in which viewers
can relate. The Incredibles, in this case, falls under a mythological and critical lens. With this
information, we can start to uncover the easter eggs that Brad Bird, the director of The Incredibles, has
left for us. This film teaches us the importance of recognizing and accepting the gifts that God has
given us. The characters experience growth only when they have wholeheartedly embraced the gifts
that have been given to them. Once they fully accept and understand their gifts, we see them flourish.

The Importance Of Chinese Culture And Nursing Practice
Yin and Yang
The purpose of this paper is to expound on Chinese culture as it relates to nursing practice. I chose the
Chinese culture to better understand the culture that is rapidly growing around the Denver
metropolitan area. Through research and thorough application, I will be able to put into practice
Purnell s Model for Cultural competence and forge a greater understanding of what is similar and
different among the various cultures that make up the healthcare team...Nurses who utilize
transcultural theories are in an ideal position to demonstrate how the provision of culturally competent
care will shape health care in the future (DeNisco, Barker, 2016).
Summary of Article
The Chinese culture is rooted around the medical tradition that illness is a state of cacophony clashing
with the natural and social environment. This tradition is called systematic correspondence and it sums
up the Chinese medical model with a goal of reinstating harmony and balance. Solutions are to return
patients to a previously healthy state using herbal medicine, moxibustion, acupuncture and massage
therapy. Moxibustion uses dried plant leaves ignited and held close to the skin to bring about the flow
of Qi. The terms caring and curing are used interchangeably and represent the unmistakable mandate
that the person as a whole is to be cared for, not only the ailment.
In 1907, nursing as a profession made its way to China. This was not received well at first due to the
tradition that

Analysis Of The Jumping Frog
The lowest intellect, like the highest, possesses a skill of some kind and takes a keen pleasure in
testing it, proving it, perfecting it (Mark Twain). The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County
was one of Mark Twain s first works and it helped people start to notice who he was. This short story
was about someone listening to a man telling a story about a gambler and a frog. Although the story
itself sounds a bit weird, that was one of the ways of writing that Twain was best known for. The
writing style that Twain uses in this work, and many others, helped create his success and makes him a
better writer. In this specific short story, the speaker spoke very seriously and casually which
countered the tone that was most based on the listener being annoyed that they had to hear his story.
This aspect of the story helped contribute more towards Twain s writing style, and his style yet to
come. In 1865 his story about the jumping frog of Calaveras County, which was published in New
York and reprinted in papers around the United States, started to make him celebrated too. (Stephan
Railton) Although The Jumping Frog wasn t Twain s most popular piece by a long shot, it did very
well for him at the time. At this point in Twain s writing, it was the his first great success which helped
make it as timeless as it is. He later went on to write famous books such as The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn which both shared the humor that Twain is most

Act (IDEA), which was first enacted in 1975 and most recently revised in 2004. IDEA mandates that

there are colleges and universities that are skilled at providing accommodations for students with
ASD. Unfortunately, students with ASD have decreased graduation and employment rates, and they
are more likely to develop mental health disorders during their college years when compared with
other students with disabilities (Hees, Moyson, Roeyers, 2015). Challenges the students with ASD will
face in college include organizational and time management difficulties, lacking self advocacy skills,
sensory overload, and problems meeting academic demands (Hees, Moyson, Roeyers, 2015). It is
important for a primary care provider to provide anticipatory guidance to the adolescent and their
family of what to expect of postsecondary school if that is what they choose for the next step.
A recent study investigated the challenges and support needs of students with ASD in postsecondary
education (Hees, Moyson, Roeyers, 2015). The first challenge the researchers found were that the
students with ASD struggled with the new situations and unexpected changes in college. These
students found it very difficult to oversee the large amount of new information and choices they had to

Divergent And Allegiant Essay
How are the effects of Divergent and Allegiant s speculation on individuals / groups discussed by the
author?
What if people divided society into groups based on what their personal virtues were, which they are
made to work on throughout their whole lives? What if you had to stay with this group your whole
life, leaving your friends and family behind forever?
This is the case for the dystopian books Divergent and Allegiant, written by Veronica Roth.
There is a lot of speculation in these books, about the portrayal of these groups, known as factions .
The main speculation is on the group of individuals known as the Divergents. In the first book of the
series, Divergent, they are portrayed to be individuals who rebel against the faction system as their

other people and accepted her own perspective, When I found out I was Divergent, I thought of it as a
secret power that no one else possessed, something that made me different, better, stronger, (Roth,
2013, p. ).
As well as using perspective to speculate on the Divergents, Roth additionally uses foreshadowing
throughout Divergent, to link to the ideas explored in Allegiant.
Roth uses foreshadowing to provide the reader with an advance hint of what is to come later in the
story. She uses it mainly throughout the first book in the series to give the reader a lead in to what to
expect in the final book.
The most prominent example of foreshadowing in Divergent is when Tris questions the aptitude test;
The tests don t have to change our choices, to which her brother Caleb replies with, Don t they,
though? (Roth, 2011, p. 66). This foreshadows Caleb s decision to leave his own faction and join a

Why is tap water so bad for your skin?
A huge percentage of the UK has hard water which means the majority of the population have to face
the cold hard truth of it: we re actually covering ourselves in soap scum. The soap scum then clogs our
pores each time we use it and contributes to breakouts. The big problem with hard water is the fact
that it has such a high mineral content which stops it from reacting with soap normally. Instead, it
triggers a lather and creates a soapy layer upon the skin. This not only leads to very clogged pores but
also irritates the skin too making it itchy, dry and sometimes flaky. Dr Dennis Gross from the U.S had
this to say, These impurities in water make it difficult for soap and shampoo to wash off, leading to
dryness of the skin and scalp, which directly irritate the skin and cause redness and rosacea.
On top of this, there are also very strong correlations between hard water and skin disorders such as
eczema. This is due to the minerals such as calcium, which when found in particularly high
concentrations can cause a great loss of moisture to the skin and in turn lead to irritating conditions
like eczema. A recent study at the University of Nottingham found in over 7,500 children of school
age, conditions like eczema were becoming significantly more common for those within hard water
areas than those in soft water areas. Sadly, this isn t a matter of converting

An important segment of Dianetics is auditing which is defined as, the application of Dianetics or

Reducing The Risk Of Ventilator Acquired Pneumonia
Reducing the Risk of Ventilator Acquired Pneumonia through Head of Bed Elevation The American
Thoracic Society (1996) defines ventilator acquired pneumonia or VAP as the specified type of
nosocomial pneumonia that occurs after the first 48 hours of initiating mechanical ventilation. One of
the major causes of mortality among infections acquired at the hospital is VAP. Once a patient
develops VAP he/she will have to spend to longer amount of time in the ICU (Rello et al.,1996). VAP
initiating bacteria are often categorized into two groups: those that cause early onset VAP (usually
with 4 days of mechanical ventilation) and those that cause late onset VAP (usually after 4 days of
mechanical ventilation) (Craven and Steger, 1996; George et ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The various factors that increase a patient s susceptibility to VAP are discussed by Cook et al.(1998).
Background of study It has been found that the chances of developing nosocomial pneumonia is
reduced by situating seriously ill ventilated patients in a semi recumbent position. The goal of this
experiment is to compare and contrast between the effects of the present standard degree of bed head
elevation (i.e. 25 °) and 45° elevation on the occurrence of VAP. The incidence of VAP can be
prevented/reduced in the hospitals by taking nursing measures. Elevation of head of bed is one among
them. Nurses should maintain the angle of 45 degree of bed head elevation all times to reduce the risk
of aspiration. The flat position increases the risk of aspiration. The main purpose of this study is to
understand whether or not increasing the standard degree of bed head elevation will help minimize the
occurrence of VAP. Methods of study The method adopted was quantitative in nature, using a
randomized controlled trial. In order to achieve this, 71 adult patients were assessed for eligibility and
among this 59 met the given criteria. They were randomly categorized into treatment groups
consisting of 29 patients and a control group consisting of 27 patients. The randomization was done by

amount of involvement and the amount of tasks that he is assigned.
Relevant Background Tony Blair, a former prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2007,
is believed to be disliked by Palestinians due to his closeness with Israel. His closeness with Israel is
because of previous discussions with a pro Israel lobby group, Labour Friends of Israel. At one point
he was a special representative of the Quartet of International powers that includes the United States,
United Nations, European Union, and Russia. His job was to seek a peace agreement between Israel

Therefore the Palestinians were angry, but since Israel had the help of the United States and the United
Nation the Palestinians lost the wars that followed and their country ceased to exist. The Israeli
believed that they needed a place where they could practice their beliefs, so they declared their
independence in 1948 and received the land that already belonged to Palestine. Hamas said that any
proposal for a long term truce with Israel would be brought to the attention of other Palestinian
factions in the Gaza Strip. Blair is acting as a broker to obstruct matters and we don t know what his
attentions are. At times given the scope of the conflict his projects seem quite small, an observation
made at one point by Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, who warned that Blair s state building
efforts would amount to little without a more substantive change in Israeli policy. The Palestinians
detested many of Blair s plans because they were supposed to be helpful, according to the Palestine
paper. A memo from late 2007 from the PA s Negotiations Support Unit has a large number of issues:

The Paradox Of Nollywood
How can we explain this paradox of Nollywood s boom whose film products are being madly sought
after by the audience it targets and yet remains a victim of the scorn and contempt of the Western
press? Nollywood s success story is paradoxically a result of an economic failure of structural
adjustment policies in Nigeria, which rendered the shooting of celluloid films prohibitively expensive
(Ayakoroma 2010). By cutting corners and avoiding all the difficulties that francophone movies had to
contend with in depending wholly and solely on French subvention, Nollywood has aggressively filled
the void that Western filmic can never really fill in poverty stricken African contexts. Born out of an
economic necessity, Nollywood, has sadly been conditioned by the urge to make profit while paying
little or no attention to ideals of promoting a national esprit de corp, ethics of respect for copyright
laws or the recounting of the collective story of the people (Ayakoroma 2010).
The price paid by Nollywood for cutting corners has been the marginalization of its cinematographic

cinematographic products have equally undergone a veritable metamorphosis to have learnt from all
forms of cinemas and are gradually moving towards the enviable situation of a developed homegrown
video industry that can arguably boast of its own distinctness. Originally projected for the traditional

Analytical Essay On Night By Elie Wiesel
I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We
must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the
tormentor, never the tormented. (Elie Wiesel) The book Night by Elie Wiesel tells his story of trying to
survive in a concentration camp during the holocaust. Family is an important part of the story because
it shows us that family can be what keeps some people alive, family becomes important when things
get rough, and that once you lose your humanity family means nothing.
First and foremost, family is important when things get rough. In the beginning of the book the Nazis
were rounding up Jews in the Ghettos. The families in the Ghettos did their best to stick together but
some families were broken apart. When Elie and his father get to the concentration camp they do their
best to stay together. Elie says he s 18 and his dad says that he is 40. It keeps them alive and together.
Elie does everything he can to keep his dad going. He makes sure he keeps walking and that he stays

Vampires are a widely spread phenomena that have filled the teenager s mind with wild thoughts of

Trickster God Mythology Examples
Iktomi, Wakjankaga, Coyote, and Rick Sanchez trickster gods created through generations of rich
Sioux, Winnebago, and Navajo tradition, as well as the weird and wonderful minds of Dan Harmon
and Justin Roiland. Specifically, I ll be focusing on the themes of community and individual values
told through trickster god narratives with a concentration on environmentalism. Initially, it s important
to establish the tropes and traits of trickster gods, so I can establish a firm link between Rick Sanchez
and trickster gods of old. This will give the social commentary and myth of Adult Swims Rick and
Morty a figurative leg to stand on. Beginning, let s define common traits and relay them to specific
examples in trickster myths. Trickster God s are often wandering, bawdy, gluttonous, and obscene

his own interests (Levine 100). They are also culture heros (Levine 100) with god like power (Levine

his grandson Morty a date at a dance, makes him a love serum, which unintentionally infects the
whole world with a virus that turns everyone into a David Cronenberg esque monsters. He is then
forced to relocate himself and morty to another dimension of earth. This satisfies multiple of the

Differences in Marketing for B2C and B2B Sites
Introduction
Marketing in an electronic business/commerce (e business/e commerce) arena today is truly no
different than the ole ‘brick and mortar business. Business to business (B2B) and business to
consumer (B2C) sites need to have a crafty approach to implement marketing strategies and develop
an effective marketing plan to reach the intended (targeted) market. Thus, the mixing or blending of
the four Ps (product, place, price, and promotion) in such a way to attain both the business and target
market s goals and objectives is the key to success. The correct marketing mix, or blend, will help
both a B2B or B2C site ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because the relationships that are developed between a B2C business and a consumer are
normally shorter in duration than the relationship between a B2B business and their customer
(http://www.vista consulting.com/marketing articles/b2b b2c marketing.htm, 2006).
Business to Business (B2B)
Like B2C sites, B2B sites must also have a good understanding on the target market they are
attempting to reach, but B2B marketing is more focused on relationship building than transaction
building like B2C sites. Additionally, the business buyer is sophisticated, understands your product or
service better than you do, and wants or needs to buy products or services to help their company stay
profitable, competitive, and successful (http://www.vista consulting.com/marketing articles/b2b b2c
marketing.htm, 2006). Furthermore, the visitor to the B2B site might not be the actual buyer, but a
member of the decision making team. Thus, B2B sites must fulfill the needs of the ‘researcher who
may be just wanting to locate detailed information about the product, long term customer care, and the
financial stability of the B2B (Grove, 2005). And, in most cases, B2B site s target market is smaller
and well defined versus the B2C target market. For B2B sites, they are building their customer base on
long term relationships, trust, and commitments not on the number of

The Music Of Bali And Its History, Beliefs, And Values,...
Introduction
Gamelan is a term for various types of orchestra played in Indonesia. As Indonesia entails 17000
islands, there are many different styles of gamelan, and no gamelan orchestra is considered to be the
same as another (See Y S, 2000). The music of Bali a Hindu island afloat in a Muslim sea was
described by the American composer Colin McPhee as the stirring mystery of a thousand bells
(Gordon, 1994). Varieties of gamelan are distinguished through tunings, style, cultural context and the
collection of instruments used. The varieties are generally grouped geographically, with certain styles
being shared by nearby ensembles, therefore leading to a regional style (See Y S, 2000). Balinese
gamelan is the main element of Indonesian traditional music as well as belonging to the sacred
elements of their culture. Throughout the following investigation, the style of Balinese gamelan will
be analysed through its history, beliefs and values, musical elements, cultural effects and future
observations.

The Poetry Of Pablo Neruda
Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto, also known as Pablo Neruda was born on July 12, 1904 in a
small town in Chile. Neruda s mother died shortly after his birth, leaving him in the care of his father.
Neruda began to write at the age of ten. Gabriela Mistral, who would later become a Nobel Prize
winner, recognized Neruda s talents by giving him books and encouragement he did not have at home.
In his early teen years, he began to publish his writings under the name of what we know as Pablo
Neruda in memory of the Czechoslovak poet, Jan Neruda, but also to avoid his father s disapproval of
Neruda s interests in literature. This essay will analyze Neruda s life and how it may have influenced

Because of Garcia Lorca s death, Neruda joined the Republican movement, starting off in Spain then
in France, Neruda worked on a collection of poems called España en el Corazón, or, Spain in our
Hearts. When these poems were written, Neruda seemed to be in a very difficult place and it seemed
like he would be for a very long time. For example, his poem, Cursed states, Bring, bring the lamp,
see the soaked earth, see the blackened little bone eaten by the flames, the garment of murdered Spain.
Just by that excerpt, you can tell that the tone of this poem is very dark. In fact, the majority of Neruda
s poems in this book seemed as if they all had the same tone; gloomy and pessimistic. His poems
reflected this tone from the 1940 s and onward, showing the political struggle in South America. This
does show that life experiences can really affect the way that poets write. A disheartening event can
lead a poet to write very depressing poems, and vice versa. Even though Neruda wrote a lot about the
political struggle, he also wrote a lot of poems about love, such as, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of
Despair. One love poem that he wrote, Your Laughter, was intriguing. The poem reveals how the
person in the poem is obviously struggling in life. But, the laughter of their significant other s
motivates them to keep driving through whatever darkness they are going through, and keeps them
happy as well. A small excerpt of the poem states, My struggle

Willis tells her short stories in three tenses. The short story Fiancée. Where Penny goes back and forth.
In the beginning she s with Andrew her fiancée packing to move to Calgary but the in the next
paragraph she s in the future. And it does not stop there, the third paragraph is about recent past. The
stories are all over the place but not in missed up way, instead it flows very well. The downside to it, it
is how most of the stories end. The endings are horrible because there is no explanation for the readers
to understand. In the story Fiancée, Penny is supposed to be back in Montreal to reunites with her
fiancée Andrew. The quote state: She will return to Montreal at the end of the month. Her ticket is
booked and Andrew expects her. (120). It seems like she will go back to her lover but she does not.
Furthermore, Penny argue: I ll probably just keep going west, she says. Get on the train and go all the
way to Vancouver. (120). It is kind of confusing how she s changing her mind. The ending of The
Fiancee story is not understandable because Willis does not give any information how Penny ended
up. On the other hand, the short story This Other Us has an ending which has no clue how the
character Lise ends up. Lise is supposed to come home and see her boyfriend Lawrence waiting for
her but instead she comes to see Lawrence with his ex girlfriend Keren who is also Lise s best friend.
She hopes that Lawrence told Karen everything about him and Lise. Well that did not happened:
Lawrence obviously hadn t told her anything, and that s why she put her arms around me. (95).
actually there is no information where its shows that Lawrence did or did not told Keren about their
relationship. The ending is so bad because the readers are not satisfied how the short story ended. The
last line from the story state: Everything s going to be okay, I thought maybe she

This means that no consumer ends up paying higher prices. This definitely is a positive consequence
of fixed price approach for buyers with high level of income.
There is a big number of the volatile price approaches. According to one of them the price of the
tickets increases as the special event comes closer. This is done in order to motivate the buyers to
purchase the tickets as soon as possible. Buyers are often excited about this opportunity and purchase
tickets immediately after they become available for sale. Sometimes this happens even a year before
the special event. Certainly, such extemporaneous purchases disrupt the budgets of the ticket buyers.
Therefore they are unable to purchase the goods or services they planned to. On contrast, under fixed
price approach the buyers are guaranteed one and the same ticket price at any moment. Therefore the
fixed price approach provides for the buyers the opportunity to budget the purchase of the tickets. For
example, a person can save 10 percents of his or her salary during a three month period of time and
then to use this amount for the purchase of the tickets. This is another positive consequence of fixed
price approach.
Under the second degree price discrimination the seller provides a special discount for buyers who
purchase a big number of tickets (or any other kind of goods)[2]. The

Description Of My Major Project Part 2 Essay
Career Episode 3
Introduction
CE 3.1
In this report I want to explain about my major project part 2 which was done during the tenure of
bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Chronology : 2012
Geographical location : India
Organization Name : College Name
Project Name : Full Wave Rectifier Circuit
Title of Position : Team Leader
Background
CE 3.2
In my previous project on developing of voltage multiplier, I had used the rectifier for enhancing the
voltage at the output but in the end, I had obtained lower current relatively. At that instant, I was
researching many rectifiers from half wave to full wave and with the help of my project guide; I had
finally made a call to develop a full wave rectifier circuit.
Abstract
CE 3.2.1
Right from the start of my academic career, I was interested in the area of rectification and how the
rectification is done in lower powered circuits and high powered circuits but most of times I had used
the capacitors over the load resistance for lowering the current ripples as they were sufficient and
rarely used the rectifiers in the high powered circuits. During lab sessions, when we are required some
smooth, steady or stable and uninterruptable DC power supply, I had used the Full Wave Rectifier as
Half Wave Rectifier only supports for one half of the input voltage. Initially, started working with the
sample or trail circuit involving the

War I And Sick Of War
According to William Tecumseh Sherman, he is tired and sick of war. It is only those who have neither
fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance,
for desolation. War is hell. This statement is self explanatory; the nature of war is reckless. Yes, when
experiencing war, some soldiers may come across gratifying sounds of larks, song birds, which
remind them of ebullient moments. Nevertheless, is brutally fighting really worth that? Roughly ten
million soldiers lost their lives in World War I, along with seven million civilians; also, many soldiers
experienced shell shock, which is a psychological disturbance caused by war. As a result of the
heinous and atrocious experiences that many were put through, this inspired many poets to record
their remembrances. Although war may bring memories of happiness because of the pleasing sounds,
war should be considered a crime regardless of how necessary or justified it seems because war leads
to mental anguish due to the memories of physical pain, soldiers being frightened because of
unexpected occurrences and ferocious deaths.
In the poem Mental Cases by Wilfred Owen, Owen describes in stark detail the ghastly physical
symptoms and memories that led to long lasting mental torment. A few months before Owen was
killed in action in 1918, he wrote this poem that appears to draw heavily on his own experience of
being a mental case at Craiglockhart War Hospital in Edinburgh where

Belonging Places In My Life Analysis
That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that
you re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong. said F. Scott Fitzgerald. Belonging
somewhere is what most people desire most in their lives. Things as simple as wanting to belong to a
family, or belonging with the right person, either way all I have ever wanted is to belong. Literature
allows me to be able to belong in exciting tales of fiction or impacting novels. Literature in my life has
always been the escape from reality to a place where I can pick up any novel and just jump right into
it. Literature has made me the person I am by allowing me to be able to learn from different novels
and different characters and applying my learning to my reality making it just a bit closer to the ideal

Comparing Quinceanera And We Real Cool
Quinceanera by Judith Ortiz Cofer and We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks are two poems that
describe different coming of age circumstances. Although some aspects of the poems language usage
are similar, the two poems are rather different in the aspects of narration and plot. Frankly, the two
poems are very different in their syntax and language usage. Quinceanera is very descriptive: I am to
wash my own clothes and sheets from this day on, as if the fluids of my body were poison, as if the
trickle of blood I believe travels from my heart to the world were shameful (11 16). In contrast,
Brooks is rather precise and terse with her words: We real cool. We left school (1 2). However, both
poems utilize enjambment and carry sentences

Application Of Graphics And Design
Application of graphics Backgrounds A good background should have a consistent colour scheme
which is eye catching without being overpowering to your eyes. So depending on the style of site
should use block colours this will give the website a sleek but simple look. But depending on the
purpose of a site the background colours etc. can vary e.g. if a background was for a childrens sight it
may be colourful or a car site may be a steely grey if it was intended to sell sports cars e.g. an Aston
Martin. Backgrounds are a prevelant feature on websites and can be the block from which a website
designer decides on what layout and colour schemes they use throughout the rest of the site. When
deciding on a background a website designer must take into account the file size of the background
image and maybe the quality of the background image as it may lead to longer load times and so the
background should be properly optimised. For a background image the designer can use a raster image
say if the background was the badge of a car or an image of a sports car. Raster images are good for
displaying detailed images their quality is lost when they are zoomed in. This is an example of a bad
website background: This is an example of an appealing background for a web site: Website graphics
Website graphics such as logos or banners for sites should be eye catching and professional looking as
they can make a business or site more memorable and thus may make the user more likely to come

Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth
Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth
Mallory Endersby
Douglas College
Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth Alcohol abuse among Aboriginal youth is a prevalent issue in
Canada. This widespread drug abuse stems from social, cultural, and biological factors. As there are
many negative impacts that come with alcohol abuse, treatment options are necessary. When treating
Aboriginal youth for alcohol abuse, it is necessary for practitioners to take cultural context into
consideration to ensure sensitivity and success. It is important to understand alcohol abuse and why
Aboriginal youth are an especially high risk demographic. This helps to identify effective ways to
diminish alcohol abuse in the Aboriginal youth population through behavioural therapy, drug therapy,
and therapeutic recreation programs. While consumption of alcohol is a socially acceptable practice in
our society, issues arise when abuse occurs. Donatelle and Thompson (2011) define alcohol abuse as
the excessive consumption or a level of consumption that interferes with work, school, or social and
family relationships (256). As with other drug addictions, this abuse is disruptive to the alcohol
abusers life as well as to those close to them. Moreover, alcohol abuse is accompanied by many
devastating effects for all demographics. The harms associated with the misuse and abuse of alcohol
includes: harm to oneself, negative effects on friendships and social life, and negative affects to

Reality Check
Reality Check
Why do we tend to watch reality shows when we know nothing about the show is actual reality? Most
reality shows are scripted and portray a negative image on African American artist and those in
relationships. Reality TV shows tend to hook us in because of the drama, comedy and music but if you
take that all away would the shows really have any views? Reality TV shows know exactly what kind
of entertainment to display that will keep the audience hooked. For example, there is a reality TV
show that is called Love Hip Hop and on this show every female is abused, messy, or egotistical. The
director has scenes of drug abuse, alcohol, relationship advice and everyday problems. These things
tend to hook the audience in because of the negatives of everything. For instance, we tend to tune in

even if it s a straying boyfriend or dealing with a man that has a child outside of the relationship. This

In closing I would like for everyone to understand that yes this may be entertaining or you may be
able to relate to some of the reality in the scripted show but this reality show needs a reality check!
Reality is not something that is idealistic we don t actually live our lives the way that it is portrayed on

Theme Of Empathy In To Kill A Mockingbird
In Maycomb County, Alabama lives an immature man incapable of empathy because he dwells inside
his isolating prison away from the rest of Maycomb. In Harper Lee s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird,
published in 1960, she includes these caricatures of Maycomb Southerners in the 1930s living
amongst sociopath Arthur Boo Radley. His family imprisoned Boo, middle aged man, on the accounts
of being unstable; yet, he is a paternal guardian to the Finch children from afar. In the 1930s, teenage
delinquency is unacceptable in a local community, forcing him to conform to a social recluse. The
historical 1930s prose does not recognize Boo s childish behavior because the Great Depression and
upcoming World War I tensions led to a loss of innocence in teenagers. But as Scout and Jem
mustered the courage to interact with Boo, these opportunities permit him to enact the father like
empathy Mr. Radley denied him as a teenager. Lee includes interactions between the Finch children
with Boo in order to give him opportunities to develop empathy past his private nature, suggesting
wholesome relationships are possible to achieve through empathy, overpowering familial interference.
Despite Boo s absence from other community members, he exhibits empathy for the Finch children,
Scout and Jem. He offers tokens of kindness like sewing and leaving Jem s pants folded across the
fence...like they were expecting [Jem]... when the pants snagged on the Radley house fence (78). The

Study on Essential Hypertension

CLINICAL SCIENCES II
INTRODUCTION
Essential hypertension, otherwise known as primary or idiopathic hypertension, is a condition of
raised blood pressure with no identifiable cause. Secondary hypertension occurs when blood pressure
elevation results from a specific and potentially treatable cause. These include renal diseases,
endocrine causes, congenital cardiovascular causes and pregnancy.
This study however, will focus on essential hypertension so as to avoid unnecessary confusion. Blood
pressure is relative to each individual and tends to vary markedly depending on height and weight.

In the arteries, there is thickening of each of the layers in the vessel wall, thus narrowing the lumen
and reducing its effectiveness. A similar development occurs in the arterioles causing increased
rigidity of the walls thus reducing their ability to contract and expand. Hence the lumen size is
reduced. As a result, there is slowing down of the blood flow resulting in ischaemia of cell tissue.
This then increases the pressure through the vessels and the left ventricular myocardium or heart
muscle undergoes hypertrophy. Ischaemic heart disease and left ventricular failure are common results
of hypertension in this case.
Due to occurrence of the above, the blood vessel in the brain become more fragile and paves the way
for haemorrhage. Damage to small blood vessels within the cerebral hemispheres produce microscopic
infarctions (localised necrotic areas) appearing as small areas of brain destruction that fill with fluid,
otherwise known as hypertensive lacunae.
In malignant hypertension the vessels undergo similar changes but more acutely. Therefore the
damage is more severe, leading to actual cessation of blood flow through the vessels. This results in
multiple areas of tissue necrosis as in the glomeruli of the kidney.
As the glomeruli are part of the filtration system in the nephron of the kidney, damage can hinder
removal of waste products, salt and water from the blood stream. Progressive destruction of

where they were when Bruce first found them in 1980. They made progress from what they once
were, having skyrocketing homicide rates and being classified as a tribe of cannibals; to being a tribe
that basis their economy off of reciprocity and sister marriage. The Gebusi were once a tribe of people
that had very stringent beliefs. The Gebusi were a tribe of people that worked together in all aspects of
life, from felling trees and semi domesticating pigs, to living in long houses and participating in
reciprocity. In 1998 Knauft noted that the Gebusi have dramatically changed from what they were in

The Gebusi created this in between culture that included both traditional and modern influences. The

Catholicism their belief system never reverted back to what it once was but did show a mixture
between the traditional practices and the new ones. Also because of the independency that this

Lucent Technologies-Revenue Recognition Case Essays
a) Revenues are inflows of assets or settlements of liabilities or both. Revenues come from activities
of the entity s central operations. Gains are increases in net assets and from peripheral or incidental
transactions of an entity. The difference between gains and revenues depend to a great extent on the
typical activities of a company. For example, when McDonald s sells a hamburger, it records the
selling price as revenue. However, when Mc Donald s sells land, it records any excess of the selling
price over book value as a gain. b) In cash basis accounting, revenues are simply recognized when
cashed is received no matter when and how the services were performed or goods delivered. In accrual

A significant component of an employee’s well-being in...
A significant component of an employee s well being in today s world is the ability to maintain a
healthy balance between their profession and family life. As the prevalence of dual income families
has increased, so has the idea of maintaining the responsibilities at home, as well as, ensuring one is
productive at work. The attainment of work life balance continues to be a prominent standard not only
for employees in the workforce, but also for the organizations that employ them (McMillan, Morris,
Atchley, 2011). Work/life concerns are dominant across all cultures and can involve individuals of
every gender, occupation, income level, and age. Moreover, in the 2007 SHRM Job Satisfaction
Survey Report, flexibility to balance life and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the absence of balance, most commonly known as work family conflict, research shows it
has been linked to higher turnover intention and sickness absence, in addition to, lower productivity. A
large percentage of an individual s time is spent at work which constitutes as a significant aspect of
their life. As a result, their well being can be greatly affected due to their experiences at work and their
experiences/behaviors at home. Once an employee recognizes an imbalance between their work and
personal life, they are more likely to experience higher levels of stress and depression. Because work
life balance is a broad topic area, it is vital for human resource practitioner s to develop a conceptual
understanding of its various constructs. With that, they will be better equipped with the knowledge to
develop appropriate interventions for both employees and organizations. The work life interface is a
dynamic and complex subject that involves a number of different components. What s more, work
family balance has been defined inconsistently across research. Generally, most researchers view work
family balance as the absence of work family conflict. More specifically, work family balance has
been defined as the extent to which individuals are equally engaged in and equally

  • 2. Causes And Effects Of Solar Storms A solar storm with that classification can produce long lasting radiation storms which can damage satellites and even damage influence airline passengers that fly near the polls. The small radiation doses produced as well by X class flares also hold the potential to create global transmission problems and worldwide blackouts. When solar flares are produced from the sun, radiation is emitted across the entire electromagnetic spectrum, starting at radio waves at the long end of the spectrum to x ray and gamma rays at the short wavelength end. The beta and gamma radiation produced from the solar flare influence the semiconductors present in most electronic systems in today s technology. When the radiation passes through the semiconductor is can have two major effects: one is to make electron hole pairs which may create soft errors and, if the radiation is produced in a sufficient amount permanent damage can be caused by creating large numbers of charges with sufficient energy injected into silicon dioxide regions and change the characteristics of the transistor. Not only can solar radiation damage small components but can damage a large part of the power grid. When a geomagnetic storm hits the earth the produced electromagnetic energy from the solar wind causes geomagnetically induced currents. This is similar to the process of when an electrical generator produces electricity, the currents produced by the solar storm are a geo electric field but have a magnetic field the same ... • 3. History of the Refrigerator Essay History of the Refrigerator Back in time a long time ago, around 500 B.C. the Egyptians and Indians made ice on cold nights by setting water out in earthenware pots and keeping the pots wet. In the 18th century England, servants collected ice in the winter and put it into icehouses, where the sheets of ice were packed in salt, wrapped in strips of flannel and stored underground to keep them frozen until summer. Before the refrigerator or ice box was introduced people used snow and ice to keep their food cool, which was either found locally or brought down from the mountains. Cellars and caves were also used to refrigerate food. Meat and fish were preserved in warm weather by salting or smoking. The first cellars were holes dug ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compressed ether machines were built in Pennsylvania by Oliver Evans in 1805 and in Australia by James Harrison in 1855, and Dr. John Gorrie in Florida built an expanding air cooling machine in 1844. In 1851 Dr. John Gorrie created the first commercial ice making machine to cool the air for his yellow fever patients. Soon thereafter, refrigeration and freezing became popular methods of preserving foods for transport or storage, and in place where natural ice was not available. Refrigeration is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space, or from a substance, to lower its temperature. A refrigerator uses the evaporation of a liquid to absorb heat. The liquid, or refrigerant used in a refrigerator evaporates at an extremely low temperature creating freezing temperatures inside the refrigerator. William Cullen at the University of Glasgow demonstrated the first known artificial refrigeration in 1748. However, he did not use his discovery for any practical purpose. In 1805, an American inventor, Oliver Evans, designed the first refrigerator machine. The development of mechanical refrigeration systems began in the early19th century and arose mainly from the needs of meat producers in the USA, South America, Australia and New Zealand, who were facing many difficulties in shipping their produce to their export markers in Europe. Many experimental systems were built in the 1830s, utilizing the cooling effect produced by the expansion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The use of the social media helps us do many of our tasks with more ease and in less time. On the other hand, it has some adverse effects on today s human life like addiction, obesity and other health problems. There are several ways that prove social media improved the way we communicate with each other, including feasibility of voice and video calls, ability share information to each other and increase motivation for all the students. The first way that the social media affects our lives is the feasibility of voice and video calls. For instance, people who live far from their loved ones definitely know the value of this tools. Today, for example, Facebook has made it possible for people living in two different countries to see and talk to each other, which is something that no one could even imagine to do a century ago. They can use video conferencing facilities to work with each other without having an office or meeting face to face. These countries included Greece and Turkey, the Suez crisis, The Vietnam war and one of the biggest proxy wars that still have tension today, the Korean War. The Korean war between communist north Korea and their allies were the USSR and China while South Korea was an ally of the United States. The war started in June of 1950 through July 1953, even though it lasted 3 years it became one of the deadliest wars in modern history, US believed that if the USSR were to take Korea that Ÿ of the world would become communism and so through the US containment policy, they became involved so communism would not spread. The reason the United states decided to take action was because a non communist country was getting attacked by a communist country and their duty was to interfere and stop the attack. The soviets also wanted to intervene in countries like Greece and Turkey. This brought up the Marshall plan. • 6. The Importance Of An Exemplary Person In Confucius The exemplary person (junzi) is someone who is worthy of leadership and respect. To do one s utmost (zhong), observing ritual propriety (li), practicing filial piety (xiao), knowing what is appropriate (yi) and having a deep love of learning (haoxne) are crucial aspect to becoming such a commanding and versatile individual. These qualities, however, do not come easily as the way (dao) requires the types of habits and commitments that the average person would normally find excessive. Nevertheless, for those did who managed to persevere they found themselves walking the path towards harmony. Although some may have achieved harmony, the questions must be asked: how and why did these seemingly arbitrary ideas work? How does loving to learn and doing ones duty make a person exemplary? For Confucius this was no easy task to explain. Compounding the issue further is that many may find contradictions within the Analects itself. Despite this, these qualities do promote the type of virtues that, in mind of Confucius at least, can create what some many consider to be an exemplary person. Doing one s utmost is something many may think comes naturally. This direct approach may seem easy on the surface, nonetheless, for Confucius doing ones utmost requires a much more nuanced approach. • 9. Reflection Of The Incredibles The Incredibles is more than a hero s journey; it also explores the ties between faith and family. Although watching this movie does not reveal this fact immediately, we can understand this film through a deep understanding and knowledge of Ostwalt s theory in his journal, Religion Popular Movies. To begin, Ostwalt outlines three categories in which films can fall into: theological, mythological and ideological. These three categories are intrinsic in nature making sense semantically but Ostwalt delves deeper into the meanings in his journal and describes instances in which viewers can relate. The Incredibles, in this case, falls under a mythological and critical lens. With this information, we can start to uncover the easter eggs that Brad Bird, the director of The Incredibles, has left for us. This film teaches us the importance of recognizing and accepting the gifts that God has given us. The characters experience growth only when they have wholeheartedly embraced the gifts that have been given to them. Once they fully accept and understand their gifts, we see them flourish. Imagine living in a time when superheroes are shunned for saving people; when helping people is a taboo. A time when superheroes like Mr. Incredible and Frozone are subjected to listening to police scanners in the night, like vigilantes, when they were originally admired by many for their kind and selfless acts; this is the setting of Pixar s The Incredibles. This tradition is called systematic correspondence and it sums up the Chinese medical model with a goal of reinstating harmony and balance. Solutions are to return patients to a previously healthy state using herbal medicine, moxibustion, acupuncture and massage therapy. Moxibustion uses dried plant leaves ignited and held close to the skin to bring about the flow of Qi. • 11. Analysis Of The Jumping Frog The lowest intellect, like the highest, possesses a skill of some kind and takes a keen pleasure in testing it, proving it, perfecting it (Mark Twain). The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County was one of Mark Twain s first works and it helped people start to notice who he was. This short story was about someone listening to a man telling a story about a gambler and a frog. Although the story itself sounds a bit weird, that was one of the ways of writing that Twain was best known for. The writing style that Twain uses in this work, and many others, helped create his success and makes him a better writer. In this specific short story, the speaker spoke very seriously and casually which countered the tone that was most based on the listener being annoyed that they had to hear his story. This aspect of the story helped contribute more towards Twain s writing style, and his style yet to come. In 1865 his story about the jumping frog of Calaveras County, which was published in New York and reprinted in papers around the United States, started to make him celebrated too. (Stephan Railton) Although The Jumping Frog wasn t Twain s most popular piece by a long shot, it did very well for him at the time. At this point in Twain s writing, it was the his first great success which helped make it as timeless as it is. There is a lot of speculation in these books, about the portrayal of these groups, known as factions . The main speculation is on the group of individuals known as the Divergents. A huge percentage of the UK has hard water which means the majority of the population have to face the cold hard truth of it: we re actually covering ourselves in soap scum. The soap scum then clogs our pores each time we use it and contributes to breakouts. The big problem with hard water is the fact that it has such a high mineral content which stops it from reacting with soap normally. Instead, it triggers a lather and creates a soapy layer upon the skin. This not only leads to very clogged pores but also irritates the skin too making it itchy, dry and sometimes flaky. Dr Dennis Gross from the U.S had this to say, These impurities in water make it difficult for soap and shampoo to wash off, leading to dryness of the skin and scalp, which directly irritate the skin and cause redness and rosacea. On top of this, there are also very strong correlations between hard water and skin disorders such as eczema. This is due to the minerals such as calcium, which when found in particularly high concentrations can cause a great loss of moisture to the skin and in turn lead to irritating conditions like eczema. A recent study at the University of Nottingham found in over 7,500 children of school age, conditions like eczema were becoming significantly more common for those within hard water areas than those in soft water areas. One of the major causes of mortality among infections acquired at the hospital is VAP. Once a patient develops VAP he/she will have to spend to longer amount of time in the ICU (Rello et al.,1996). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The various factors that increase a patient s susceptibility to VAP are discussed by Cook et al.(1998). Background of study It has been found that the chances of developing nosocomial pneumonia is reduced by situating seriously ill ventilated patients in a semi recumbent position. The goal of this experiment is to compare and contrast between the effects of the present standard degree of bed head elevation (i.e. 25 °) and 45° elevation on the occurrence of VAP. The incidence of VAP can be prevented/reduced in the hospitals by taking nursing measures. Elevation of head of bed is one among them. Nurses should maintain the angle of 45 degree of bed head elevation all times to reduce the risk of aspiration. The flat position increases the risk of aspiration. The main purpose of this study is to understand whether or not increasing the standard degree of bed head elevation will help minimize the occurrence of VAP. Methods of study The method adopted was quantitative in nature, using a randomized controlled trial. In order to achieve this, 71 adult patients were assessed for eligibility and among this 59 met the given criteria. They were randomly categorized into treatment groups consisting of 29 patients and a control group consisting of 27 patients. The Paradox Of Nollywood How can we explain this paradox of Nollywood s boom whose film products are being madly sought after by the audience it targets and yet remains a victim of the scorn and contempt of the Western press? Nollywood s success story is paradoxically a result of an economic failure of structural adjustment policies in Nigeria, which rendered the shooting of celluloid films prohibitively expensive (Ayakoroma 2010). By cutting corners and avoiding all the difficulties that francophone movies had to contend with in depending wholly and solely on French subvention, Nollywood has aggressively filled the void that Western filmic can never really fill in poverty stricken African contexts. Born out of an economic necessity, Nollywood, has sadly been conditioned by the urge to make profit while paying little or no attention to ideals of promoting a national esprit de corp, ethics of respect for copyright laws or the recounting of the collective story of the people (Ayakoroma 2010). As Indonesia entails 17000 islands, there are many different styles of gamelan, and no gamelan orchestra is considered to be the same as another (See Y S, 2000). The music of Bali a Hindu island afloat in a Muslim sea was described by the American composer Colin McPhee as the stirring mystery of a thousand bells (Gordon, 1994). Varieties of gamelan are distinguished through tunings, style, cultural context and the collection of instruments used. The varieties are generally grouped geographically, with certain styles being shared by nearby ensembles, therefore leading to a regional style (See Y S, 2000). This definitely is a positive consequence of fixed price approach for buyers with high level of income. There is a big number of the volatile price approaches. According to one of them the price of the tickets increases as the special event comes closer. This is done in order to motivate the buyers to purchase the tickets as soon as possible. Buyers are often excited about this opportunity and purchase tickets immediately after they become available for sale. Sometimes this happens even a year before the special event. Certainly, such extemporaneous purchases disrupt the budgets of the ticket buyers. Therefore they are unable to purchase the goods or services they planned to. On contrast, under fixed price approach the buyers are guaranteed one and the same ticket price at any moment. Therefore the fixed price approach provides for the buyers the opportunity to budget the purchase of the tickets. For example, a person can save 10 percents of his or her salary during a three month period of time and then to use this amount for the purchase of the tickets. This is another positive consequence of fixed price approach. Under the second degree price discrimination the seller provides a special discount for buyers who purchase a big number of tickets (or any other kind of goods)[2]. The ... Description Of My Major Project Part 2 Essay Career Episode 3 Introduction CE 3.1 In this report I want to explain about my major project part 2 which was done during the tenure of bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Chronology : 2012 Geographical location : India Organization Name : College Name Project Name : Full Wave Rectifier Circuit Title of Position : Team Leader Background CE 3.2 In my previous project on developing of voltage multiplier, I had used the rectifier for enhancing the voltage at the output but in the end, I had obtained lower current relatively. At that instant, I was researching many rectifiers from half wave to full wave and with the help of my project guide; I had finally made a call to develop a full wave rectifier circuit. Abstract CE 3.2.1 Right from the start of my academic career, I was interested in the area of rectification and how the rectification is done in lower powered circuits and high powered circuits but most of times I had used the capacitors over the load resistance for lowering the current ripples as they were sufficient and rarely used the rectifiers in the high powered circuits. During lab sessions, when we are required some smooth, steady or stable and uninterruptable DC power supply, I had used the Full Wave Rectifier as Half Wave Rectifier only supports for one half of the input voltage. Initially, started working with the sample or trail circuit involving the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. War I And Sick Of War According to William Tecumseh Sherman, he is tired and sick of war. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell. This statement is self explanatory; the nature of war is reckless. Yes, when experiencing war, some soldiers may come across gratifying sounds of larks, song birds, which remind them of ebullient moments. Nevertheless, is brutally fighting really worth that? Roughly ten million soldiers lost their lives in World War I, along with seven million civilians; also, many soldiers experienced shell shock, which is a psychological disturbance caused by war. As a result of the heinous and atrocious experiences that many were put through, this inspired many poets to record their remembrances. Although war may bring memories of happiness because of the pleasing sounds, war should be considered a crime regardless of how necessary or justified it seems because war leads to mental anguish due to the memories of physical pain, soldiers being frightened because of unexpected occurrences and ferocious deaths. In the poem Mental Cases by Wilfred Owen, Owen describes in stark detail the ghastly physical symptoms and memories that led to long lasting mental torment. A few months before Owen was killed in action in 1918, he wrote this poem that appears to draw heavily on his own experience of being a mental case at Craiglockhart War Hospital in Edinburgh where ... Although some aspects of the poems language usage are similar, the two poems are rather different in the aspects of narration and plot. Frankly, the two poems are very different in their syntax and language usage. Quinceanera is very descriptive: I am to wash my own clothes and sheets from this day on, as if the fluids of my body were poison, as if the trickle of blood I believe travels from my heart to the world were shameful (11 16). • 34. Application Of Graphics And Design Application of graphics Backgrounds A good background should have a consistent colour scheme which is eye catching without being overpowering to your eyes. So depending on the style of site should use block colours this will give the website a sleek but simple look. But depending on the purpose of a site the background colours etc. can vary e.g. if a background was for a childrens sight it may be colourful or a car site may be a steely grey if it was intended to sell sports cars e.g. an Aston Martin. Backgrounds are a prevelant feature on websites and can be the block from which a website designer decides on what layout and colour schemes they use throughout the rest of the site. When deciding on a background a website designer must take into account the file size of the background image and maybe the quality of the background image as it may lead to longer load times and so the background should be properly optimised. For a background image the designer can use a raster image say if the background was the badge of a car or an image of a sports car. Raster images are good for displaying detailed images their quality is lost when they are zoomed in. This is an example of a bad website background: This is an example of an appealing background for a web site: Website graphics Website graphics such as logos or banners for sites should be eye catching and professional looking as they can make a business or site more memorable and thus may make the user more likely to come ... Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth Mallory Endersby Douglas College Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth Alcohol abuse among Aboriginal youth is a prevalent issue in Canada. This widespread drug abuse stems from social, cultural, and biological factors. As there are many negative impacts that come with alcohol abuse, treatment options are necessary. When treating Aboriginal youth for alcohol abuse, it is necessary for practitioners to take cultural context into consideration to ensure sensitivity and success. It is important to understand alcohol abuse and why Aboriginal youth are an especially high risk demographic. This helps to identify effective ways to diminish alcohol abuse in the Aboriginal youth population through behavioural therapy, drug therapy, and therapeutic recreation programs. While consumption of alcohol is a socially acceptable practice in our society, issues arise when abuse occurs. Donatelle and Thompson (2011) define alcohol abuse as the excessive consumption or a level of consumption that interferes with work, school, or social and family relationships (256). As with other drug addictions, this abuse is disruptive to the alcohol abusers life as well as to those close to them. • 39. Theme Of Empathy In To Kill A Mockingbird In Maycomb County, Alabama lives an immature man incapable of empathy because he dwells inside his isolating prison away from the rest of Maycomb. In Harper Lee s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, published in 1960, she includes these caricatures of Maycomb Southerners in the 1930s living amongst sociopath Arthur Boo Radley. His family imprisoned Boo, middle aged man, on the accounts of being unstable; yet, he is a paternal guardian to the Finch children from afar. In the 1930s, teenage delinquency is unacceptable in a local community, forcing him to conform to a social recluse. The historical 1930s prose does not recognize Boo s childish behavior because the Great Depression and upcoming World War I tensions led to a loss of innocence in teenagers. But as Scout and Jem mustered the courage to interact with Boo, these opportunities permit him to enact the father like empathy Mr. Radley denied him as a teenager. Lee includes interactions between the Finch children with Boo in order to give him opportunities to develop empathy past his private nature, suggesting wholesome relationships are possible to achieve through empathy, overpowering familial interference. Despite Boo s absence from other community members, he exhibits empathy for the Finch children, Scout and Jem. He offers tokens of kindness like sewing and leaving Jem s pants folded across the fence...like they were expecting [Jem]... when the pants snagged on the Radley house fence (78). Secondary hypertension occurs when blood pressure elevation results from a specific and potentially treatable cause. These include renal diseases, endocrine causes, congenital cardiovascular causes and pregnancy. This study however, will focus on essential hypertension so as to avoid unnecessary confusion. Blood pressure is relative to each individual and tends to vary markedly depending on height and weight. Levels of blood pressure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the arteries, there is thickening of each of the layers in the vessel wall, thus narrowing the lumen and reducing its effectiveness. A similar development occurs in the arterioles causing increased rigidity of the walls thus reducing their ability to contract and expand. Hence the lumen size is reduced. As a result, there is slowing down of the blood flow resulting in ischaemia of cell tissue. This then increases the pressure through the vessels and the left ventricular myocardium or heart muscle undergoes hypertrophy. Ischaemic heart disease and left ventricular failure are common results of hypertension in this case. Due to occurrence of the above, the blood vessel in the brain become more fragile and paves the way for haemorrhage. Damage to small blood vessels within the cerebral hemispheres produce microscopic infarctions (localised necrotic areas) appearing as small areas of brain destruction that fill with fluid, otherwise known as hypertensive lacunae. In malignant hypertension the vessels undergo similar changes but more acutely. Therefore the damage is more severe, leading to actual cessation of blood flow through the vessels. This results in multiple areas of tissue necrosis as in the glomeruli of the kidney.
