Effectiveness Of Britain s Trade Policy On Economic Recovery
The inter war period saw a multitude of different trade policies being used throughout the world.
Britain s was one of protectionism, but in their situation their policies seemed to be effective and
played a significant role in the quick economic recovery Britain experienced during the 1930s. To
explain my evaluation of the effectiveness of Britain s trade policy on their economic recovery in the
1930s, the differing views on the effect of the General Tariff will be examined, taking into account
effective protection rates, nominal tariffs, and import substitutions. Additionally, the role trade
regionalization played and the legacies that the trade policies left will be inspected. The most debated
aspect of the effectiveness of their, now more protectionist, trade policies were the tariffs imposed by
Britain. In Forrest Capie s The British Tariff and Industrial Protection in the 1930 s, he argues that the
tariffs were a hindrance to the economic recovery. His conclusion is drawn from calculations on the
effective protection rates on the tariffs from the General Tariff in 1932; where he found that the iron
and steel industries effective protection rates were in the bottom 5% and construction was
experiencing negative rates. This is important to him because these were industries that are supposed
to have played a role in the recovery of the British economy in the 1930s, causing Capie to believe
that if there were no tariffs Britain s economic recovery would have been

New Testament Research Paper
What is New Testament?
The New Testament is a collection of books which contains the writings concerning the significant
events in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. These books appeared after the physical death of Jesus Christ.
In this regard, Jesus had left no records concerning him, and all that is written about him depends
wholly on what other people have written about him. The first four books of the New Testament are
part of the several biographies of Jesus which were written by the end of the first century of the era of
Christianity. Then before any of these biographies have been drafted, there were Christian
communities which were being instructed through epistles on how to live like Jesus and how to solve
their problem like Christians. A good number of these letters were written by a man called Paul. After
Paul death, some other new leaders of the Christian movement continued to write letters to the
churches to encourage and strengthen them. As Christians grew in number persecution arose, and
some letters have been drafted to support them and also to counter the false doctrines. These letters are
part of the New Testament. The twenty seven books of the New Testament were selected from the list
of writings in that period (Bruce, 1988)

This is because the entire new testament is based on the Jesus of Nazareth as God manifest in the flesh
(1 Tim 3:16). According to St. Paul (Ephesians 1:10), the dispensation of the fullness of time might
gather together in all things in Christ both which are in heaven and on earth. All that is written in the
first four books is about Jesus of Nazareth. Therefore to know Jesus and his salvation one must study
the New Testament. This knowledge is highly precious that according to Paul he counts all things as

Dulce Et Decorum Est
Poetry composers evoke ideas of truth to help individuals and readers understand their ideas that have
been portrayed through their work. Wilfred Owen was a war poet who served in world war one. In
Owens poems of Dulce Et Decourm Est and Anthem for Doomed youth . Both poems explore the
ideas of meaningless sacrifice and suffering as wells as the horrors of war. Owen used many poetic
techniques to help him convey his ideas of war.
Young lives are wasted in war which only increases the cruelty and meaningless of it. Wilfred Owen s
poem, Dulce et Decorum est follows the death of a young soldier. In the line If you could hear at every
jolt the blood froth from his corroded lungs. The strong use of visual and sensory imagery depicts
what the soldier s final moments of how his life ended, the soldier died a painful death from
suffocation due to a fierce gas attack. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Owen successfully evokes the ideas of truth in the poem Dulce et Decorum est the line You would not
believe with such high zest, to children ardent for some desperate glory, the old lie through the use of
metaphors and personification Owen demonstrates that the reality of the individual s experience in
war meant that they ended up challenging their sense of duty, their blind patriotism and understood
that the true meaning of war is futile. The unimaginable suffering they lived through further highlights
this reality. Also in the poem Anthem for doomed youth Owen explores the truth of war in the quote
Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes. Owen uses the technique of symbolism to link the
glimmers of goodbyes to a funeral. Many soldiers did not receive proper funeral rights and were just
buried in mass graves. Owen also shows the truth of war through the mortality of war in his
oxymoronic approach of the colossal loss of life. Essentially Owen explores the truth of war through
the themes of psychological scars and the horrors of

Denzel Washington Fall Forward Speech
In the speech, Fall Forward By Denzel Washington, one of the things that really got to me was when
he talked about deathbeds. He said, Imagine your on your deathbed and standing around your
deathbed are ghosts. Representing your unfulfilled potential. Saying that maybe people you know, or
maybe people that were in your family. And when you are in your deathbed, you don t want to have to
think about the things you didn t do correctly. The people that are know there thinking Wow you really
didn t do it, you didn t fulfill your complet potential. Or when there s people that relied on you, and
you weren t always there for them, and know. Now there waiting, waiting for you at your deathbed.
You knowing that you didn t reach the full potential that you wanted to get, you didn t get to the point
and time. You didn t reach the best. If you haven t failed, then you really haven t tried. And give up
know, your going to have more to do later in the future and it s going to just be a lot of more work for
you, your hurting yourself not anyone else. And knowing this, this would be very good advice from an
elder, an it is definitely good advice from an elder. He was a good person to get advice from. At one
moment in the video, that it really caught my attention, i thought about, it. It was something along the
lines of. Him talking about people that you could have been there for and then there was oeioke that
he could have helped. The full potential he knows he could get too,

Outliers Malcolm Gladwell Analysis
Malcolm Gladwell, the author of Outliers, a novel depicting success, provides different examples of
how an individual can achieve success in every chapter of his book to show his audience that success,
despite a variety of barriers, is in fact in our control. A very important chapter titled, Marita s Bargain ,
explains the flaws in today s public school systems. He shows the problems with the solutions to fix
them while showing the alternatives to the regular system such as the KIPP Program in New York. The
KIPP Program (Knowledge is Power Program) is a new kind of middle school that selects students
from less fortunate locations and uses unique teaching strategies to turn them around into fantastic
learners. In the chapter, Gladwell is extremely descriptive by using visual words to paint the picture of
the South Bronx in New York City. He describes the buildings that were built in the 1960 s as squat
and bleak looking. Gladwell had an interest in this subject as it involves success, however he had no
prior experiences to produce the piece. Gladwell establishes personal credibility through the use of
knowledge, reason, and facts and figures. He comes across very knowledgeable on the subject
presenting great data with excellent vocabulary. He is able to do this with no obvious bias as well.
Gladwell shows authority because he is well known for writing novels that involve success. His
intention is to teach and explain how schools need to change the length of vacation breaks

Doctrine Of Preemption And Federal Law
a) Under the doctrine of preemption, federal law preempts state law, even when the laws conflict. The
doctrine of preemption is based on the Supremacy Clause established under Article VI of the U.S.
Constitution which dictates that federal law shall be the supreme Law of the Land. b) There are two
categories of preemption supporting federal law s dominion over state law; preemption of field, and
preemption of conflict. Preemption of field can be express or implied. Express preemption occurs
when federal law supplants state authority in a particular field, and implied preemption occurs when
federal law regulates so heavily as to leave little room for state law. Preemption of conflict occurs
when state law conflicts with federal law. Two

What Is A Myth?
A myth is a purely fictional story that has been passed on for generations, usually involving
supernatural persons, actions or events. Hercules (also called Herakles), is one of the strongest and
most celebrated mythical heroes. These myths were made up thousands of years ago and have
acquired more details as they have been passed down. The story of Hercules is one of a man who was
so strong and courageous, whose deeds were so mighty, and who so endured all the hardships that
were given to him, that when he died, Hercules was brought up to Mount Olympus to live with the

Even worse, Hercules had to perform these labors for his cousin, King Eurystheus. Eurystheus was the
king of Tiryns and had a reputation for being mean. Hercules knew the king would give him a hard
time. For 12 years Hercules would have to perform these labors.
Hercules did receive some good news from Apollo. He told Hercules that after these tasks were
completed, Hercules would become immortal. Unlike other men, he would become a god.
The 12 Labors Of Hercules
THE NEMEAN LION When Hercules arrived at the palace of King Eurystheus, his first task was to
bring the king the skin of a lion which terrorized the hills around Nemea. When Hercules arrived at
Nemea, he tracked the lion to a cave with 2 entrances. His arrows were useless against the beast.
Hercules decided to block one of the doorways and then approach the fierce lion through the other.
Grasping the lion in his mighty arms, Hercules held it tightly until the lion choked to death. Hercules
then returned to Mycenae, carrying the dead lion in his arms. King Eurystheus was amazed that
Hercules was able to accomplish this task. From this point on, the king became afraid of Hercules and
forbade him from entering the city. The king also began sending his commands through a herald,
refusing to see the hero face to face.

Parkinson s Disease Research Paper
Parkinson s disease (PD) is a type of progressive brain disorder in the human body. Brain activity
becomes disrupted when nerve cells that produce dopamine start to break down. Dopamine is a
neurotransmitter that is responsible for movement. When it s at extremely low levels, one would
experience symptoms such as slower movement, shakiness, problems with posture, and stiff muscles.
Unfortunately, Parkinson s is incurable, but there are different types of treatments to help slow down
the progression of the disease. The most common and effective treatment for PD is

Nitrate-Nitrite
The nitrate nitrite NO pathway can have beneficial health effects. Dietary nitrate has been shown to
improve the mitochondrial functioning as it affects proteins involved in uncoupling contributing to an
increase performance in exercise. The pathway begins through consumption of dietary nitrates that are
converted to nitrites by bacteria in the oral cavity. The reduction of nitrates to nitrites may affect
hemoglobin. Excess nitrites added to deoxygenated hemoglobin will oxidize to form methemoglobin
and nitric oxide (Gladwin Kim Shapiro,
2008). This formation can hinder oxygen transport and is the common cause for concern in nitrite
toxicity. Formation of nitric oxide allows for its use and reuse in cellular activities and may carry out

The body must go through chemical processes for healthy cellular function and homeostasis. Human
beings not only consume dietary nitrates but, the body also synthesizes nitrates endogenously. This
arises from the oxidation of nitrogen oxide and its end products. The synthesis of nitrates to nitrites
occurs endogenously and exogenously in the body. Consumption of inorganic nitrates and nitrites will
undergo reductive processes for the body s use and elimination. Nitrates and Nitrites both contain
nitrogen in its chemical structure. Nitrogen, in of itself, is often conserved to be reused by the body s
cells. Inorganic nitrates and nitrates that are consumed must be equally eliminated. The metabolism of
nitrates and nitrites ultimately result in its elimination through salivary excretion or urination.
Ingestion of inorganic nitrates will first undergo reductive activity in the oral cavity through the
bacteria present on the tongue. The metabolism continues until nitrites are converted to nitric oxide
where it enters the circulatory system and distributed to different target tissues. The concentration of
nitrites in the salivary glands account for 25% of total dietary intake of nitrates (Gehle, 2007). The
remaining concentration of nitrites are distributed in circulation and eventually eliminated through the
urine. Each route of elimination helps to rid the body of potentially toxic

Effects Of Concussions In The NFL
Americans today tend to believe that the NFL is a great sport to participate in and has no flaws. But
the NFL is a dangerous sport where the players often suffer from concussions. According to the
Medical News Today, over 4,000 former football players filed lawsuits alleging that the National
Football League failed to protect them from the long term health consequences of concussions . Also
just in 2013, 228 NFL players have been diagnosed with concussions that season, according to the
league s annual Health Safety Report . These concussions that the athletes suffer from can result in the
players developing CTE. CTE also known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy , is an illness that
causes pain on the brain of people who had gone through multiple head to head collisions or severe
mental trauma. There are several symptoms of CTE in which can have a negative effect on the person
with the disease and their family or friends. Some of these symptoms include memory loss, not being
able to control unpredictable behaviors, weakened judgement, violent attitude, depression, and
dementia. Research from the BIRI (Brain Injury Research Institute) showed that the CTE disease
slowly deteriorates the brain where the individual will soon enough not be able to function properly.
However, this disease is beginning to become more common in the NFL today.

Identify the key factors that help ensure the information required for the project is gathered
successfully.
Information gathering techniques are the core of systems analysis. According to Valacich At the
outset, you must collect information about the information systems that are currently in use. You need
to find out how users would like to improve the current systems and organizational operations with
new or replacement information systems. (p. 126). The first information gathering technique would be
individual interviews. Each interview should be well planned out. It should be scheduled when the
interviewee has time and the intention of the interview should be explained beforehand. An interview
guide or checklist should be created for each interview. During the interview ask both open ended and
close ended questions, listen closely to what the interviewee has to say, and take notes during the
interview. Interview a wide range of personnel from everyday users to management.
Another information gathering technique is directly observetion of the users in the current HR system.
By observing users using the current system different issues with the system can be seen that may
have been missed in an interview. Havelka says these observations will provide a more accurate
depiction of operations, requirements, and procedures within the company (April 25, 2002).
Analyzing business documents is yet another information gathering technique. Documents such as

Reflection Paper About Moving To Jordan
As I descended through those fluffy white clouds in the middle seat of the airplane, I was
overwhelmed with such incredibly nostalgic memories that suddenly rushed into my mind.
Surprisingly, an abrupt wave of anxiety caused me to feel like there were hundreds of butterflies flying
all around in my stomach. However, this anxiety did not deter my excitement one bit to take on this
strangely familiar adventure once again. So after swallowing my fears and seeing the breathtaking
landscape from the window of the plane, I knew that I had made it back to Jordan. Last summer, I
went on an incredibly fun family vacation to Jordan. However, I have to admit that I definitely was not
expecting to have that level of enjoyment during my trip. One of the biggest reasons why I felt this
way about returning back to Jordan was because I spoke formal Arabic. Additionally, since all of my
family in Jordan only spoke and understood informal Arabic as well as a Jordanian dialect that I was
unfamiliar with, I knew that I was going to struggle to communicate with them. Moreover, given that
Jordan is a country that primarily speaks an informal Jordanian dialect of Arabic as its first language, I
felt as if I was going to be hopeless stranger. In fact, I never really understood the importance of
speaking two languages growing up. I had always thought that learning English alone was sufficient
enough. Quite simply, I did not realize the impact the Arabic language played in shaping my identity.

Mother Courage Essay
Mother Courage
It s always important to be touched. Writers know and understand this idea. Whether the audience
feels good or bad about whom or what you present is not as important as the fact that they feel
something. Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children is a perfect example of a work that
doesn t leave us in very high spirits but touches us in such a way that it becomes even more powerful
than if it had.
Throughout the play the title character, Mother Courage, is presented to us in such a way that the
reader is usually left not knowing how to feel. We have with two choices. On the one hand she can be

As each dies she just seems to pick up and move on, with a brief moment of sorrow. This is a
characteristic that adds to the readers contempt for her, and rightly so. Wouldn t you think the death of
a child would affect a mother to the point of agony? But it doesn t seem to reach Mother Courage on
this level. Why is it, that in spite of losing all her children, Mother Courage fails to see the light?
She conducts business even at the end, paying for Kattrin s burial. Basically, she has learned nothing,
saying, quot;I must get back into business. quot; Although Brecht wants us to condemn her for her
sentiments at the end, it is difficult to do so. Part of the problem is that we are not presented with a
better alternative. Had she not conducted business at each moment when her children were killed, then
she would not have been able to feed her remaining family. So, while we may not agree with her
outlook on life, it is difficult to condemn her for her actions.
Kattrin s body is kept onstage in the last scene because it represents the death of selflessness. Helping
others does not pay; by keeping the body onstage, Brecht is showing the audience that only people
like Mother Courage can survive in the world. By making us despise Mother Courage, Brecht is trying
to get his audience to realize that the world in which we live needs to be changed. Kattrin represents
an alternative and idealized world that cannot yet exist in our own world.

From Spaniard And Indian Summary
By the late eighteenth century, the New World, which was still remote, had formed its own
complicated individual and national identities. Moreover, the disparate communities within Latin
America had established a unique culture characterized by its hybridity. A close reading of Ignacio de
Castro s From Spaniard and Indian, a Mestizo is born and Agostino Brunias s Planter and His Wife
with a Servant reveals the racial hierarchy that formed amid Latin America s hybridity. Additionally,
both objects specifically express Latin American hybridity for a white, European class, likely as a
means to demystify and boost the standing of the New World. Deceivingly similar in terms of style
and subject, as both contain three figures of varying cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

hybridity is evident because of her head wrapping. Interestingly, though she and her husband are pale,

Zen Buddhisim and Japan Essay
Zen Buddhism and Japan
Japan and the development of Zen Buddhism went hand in hand towards the beginning of the sixth
century. Buddhism was in full bloom in India and the Chinese were adapting it to there Lifestyle when
several Japanese clans began picking it up. Zen Buddhism
Zen Buddhism is a combination of Indian and Chinese thought process revolving around the world as
it is and the discipline of finding enlightenment. The idea of enlightenment or Satori as the Japanese
called it was the central point of Buddhism The Chinese had several ways of looking at the things that

If there is a statement relating to Geese flying, the quote is then not about actual geese, those are the
dead words, but the teacher and his intentions. Zen verbalism must seen as an undistinguishable thing
that reveals itself when the speaker looks inside at himself. D.T. Suzuki say that Satori must be the
growth of one s inner life and not a verbal implantation brought from the outside (p.10). Zen is a daily
experience, not something brought from outside. The second part of attaining enlightenment is the
following Zen actions just in general. In a way Zen verbalism is similar to Zen actions but Zen
verbalism refers to just the teachings that relate to Zen. This second way of finding enlightenment is
following the path of the Buddha in your everyday life style.
Zen Buddhism became the prominent religion in Japan due to support from popular leaders in the
country. The teaching of Buddhism came into to Japan during the sixth century when Japan was faced
with many feuding clans. Several clans picked up the new religion and soon after one of those clans
came into power. With much support from the new emperor, and other high ranking officials
Buddhism was declared the official religion of Japan. This created even more feuding, despite the
initial attempts at declaring Buddhism Japan s new national religion. Shinto was the other religion that

The Argument Of The Chinese Room ( CR )
The Chinese Room (CR) is a thought experiment intended to prove that a computer cannot have a
mental life with a strong sense of intelligence alike to one that humans possess because a computer
does not have a genuine understanding. Rather, a computer is a mere simulator of understanding, and
by extension, a simulator of intelligence. According to John Searle, because computers lack a true
understanding they are rendered incapable of possessing mental life as we know and experience it
(Searle 2004). In the following paper, I intend to explain and philosophically examine John Searle s
argument of CR and will then proceed to reject his theory based on a series of objections. I will do this
by examining the concept of human intelligence through a filmic analogy, put forth the Systems Reply
objection, and examine how the CR argument is foregrounded in anthropocentric bias that
presupposes only humans are capable of true intelligence. Overall, I argue that CR fails to
convincingly argue that only humans can possess a human intelligence because it is an argument
based more on intuitive claims, than sound reasoning. As promised, I begin by outlining the main crux
of the Chinese Room argument. If you imagine a sealed room where through a slot you can submit
questions written in Chinese and you can receive answers in Chinese, your inclination is more than
likely going to be to assume that whomever resides within the room understands, and is able to,
communicate in Chinese.

Appeals to Women
Most advertisers use different appeals to create stereotypes about their audiences because people often
buy magazines which fit the stereotypes they make about themselves. For example, people who
always read Newsweek are mostly people who are at work, who are economically stable, and who are
interested in the world situation. On the other hand, the audiences of Shape are mostly young women
who are interested in reducing their weights or shaping up. In Jib Fowles essay, Advertising s Fifteen
Basic Appeals, he discusses the fifteen emotional appeals that are often seen in many advertisements.
To corroborate his postulations of advertisement, I focused on a specific magazine, Cosmopolitan, and

Also, the copies of Splendor fetch audiences attention by appealing to their longing for romance and
affections. The ad of True Love also appeals to sexuality by showing a woman with a drowsy
expression in a lying down position. The second appeal I found is the need for autonomy, the need to
credit the self. The three ads about women s suits, glassware, and make up are great examples. An ad
of women s suit has five women in five different gray suits who look competent. The catch phrase
says, Let em know who you are. The other ad of glassware shows a beautiful white woman in a white
blouse with glasses. She has her blond hair put up, and she is reading a paper. The copy on the upper
left corner reads, Endless Possibilities. The third ad of Maybelline s foundation cake also has a white
woman wearing white blouse with her hair up. All of these three ads have women who look aspired,
intellectual, and independent. These ads strike women s strong need to become the way they want, and
to endorse themselves. These appeals are effective in persuading women to buy the products by giving
women illusions that they will look sexy or independent just like the women in the ads if they buy the
products.
By finding the appeals advertisers use, one can tell how the advertisers view the

How Does Prospero Present The Power In The Tempest
Act 1 Scene 2 (15 190)
It is during this scene that we are introduced to Prospero as a figure of power through his magical
ability to be able to manipulate the world around him and his control over Miranda, Ariel and Caliban.
We also see Prospero s manipulation of the present by manipulating the past so that he can enforce a
certain perception into the minds of those around him. This is most evident when he retells the story of
his bothers usurpation, using terms such as perfidious , but then assuring Miranda that he loved his
brother. He repeatedly insists that Miranda focus on him, demanding her attention Dost thou attend

they cannot match and thus makes him an unbeatable foe. However, the power he has is of magical
origin, so again he uses manipulation to get what he wants. As the play progresses we are yet to see
any element of Prospero that is not either focused on revenge, or on upkeep of control and power.
Act 4 Scene 1
The scene contains The Masque of the play in which Prospero, though his magic, throws a betrothal
masque for Ferdinand and Miranda. However the masque is interrupted through as he remembers the
plot against his life. He is subsequently drawn from the illusionary world of the masque and brought
back to reality. However, the symbolic representation of leaving the illusion of the masque is
substantial in that is is representative of Prospero s entire reality. Yea, all which it inherit, shall
dissolve;
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Through the grandeur perfection of the masque Prospero
acknowledges that the world he has created through magic and power on the Island is nothing more
than an illusionary reality that is essentially insubstantial. This realization teaches Prospero that even
his powers have limits, and despite the fact that he has skillfully crafted the world around him it is still
imperfect.

The most important influence comes from the hope of overtake or demerge, which requires the
company to have an impairment test.
Question 4: What assumptions need to be made when undertaking an impairment test, and what effect
would these have for evaluating the performance of Fosters and its competitors?
The first assumption need to be made when undertaking an impairment test is to make sure all assets
that may be impaired are included in the test. IAS 36 has a list of external and internal indicators of
impairment. If there is an indication that an asset should be impaired, the calculation of the asset s
recoverable amount should be done. [IAS 36.9]
The recoverable amounts of the following types of intangible assets should be measured annually
whether or not there is any indication that it may be impaired, which means all intangible assets in
Foster have to be included. An intangible asset with an indefinite useful life means: * an intangible
asset not yet available for use * goodwill acquired in a business combination (Patell and Wolfson,
20009)
If the company does not include all intangible assets, the impairment test for written down value
would be underestimated, resulting in the performance of Fosters being overestimated while the
performance of its competitors might be underestimated.
Second, the impairment test should be true and fair. If the company does not reflect true and fair test,
the test would be

The Teenage Sex Life And The Understanding These Teenagers
Ellen Wittlinger grabbed my attention with her groundbreaking novel targeting a racy topic which
includes the teenage sex life and the understanding these teenagers have. She wrote about what most
authors would be to afraid to tackle and even did so from a teenage point of view. Wittlinger pushed
some boundaries and touched on subjects one may be hesitant to speak of aloud. The protagonist and
main character of the book is Sandpiper Ragsdale. Sandpiper is 15 years old and attends high school
like many other teens her age, but her life isn t so simple. At this school, Sandpiper has given herself a
bad reputation. She has lost her few friends because she is known for hooking up with a lot of
different guys; a problem that will come back and affect her later. Sandpiper doesn t take into account
the boy s feelings when she leaves them out of boredom. At home, Sandpiper s parents have been
divorced for a while. Her father cheated on her mother who was distraught, but has now met someone
else. This leaves her estranged from her father. Sandpiper isn t sure if she likes her new stepfather or
stepsister, but is prepared to tolerate both of them. Daisy, her younger sister, and her argue a lot and
don t see eye to eye very much. Sandpiper sees her little sister as young and clueless, while Daisy sees
Sandpiper as dull and too grown up for her actual age. Sandpiper is feeling pretty alone until she gets
saved from a potentially messy situation by a boy known as the Walker. Walker will

Analysis Of The Lenten Reflections From A Father Who Keeps...
Lenten Reflections from A Father Who Keeps His Promises Scott Hahn s purpose for the Lenten
Reflections from A Father Who Keeps His Promises is to share the biblical story of God s covenant
love in salvation history each day beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending with Divine Mercy
Sunday. Hahn provides reflections for each day retelling the stories that make up the Story. Scripture
testifies to how God has cared for his family throughout the ages, making a way for his children to
live with him forever. As the Lenten season begins, God s master plan is to form and fashion a human
family to share in the infinite love of the Trinity (Hahn, 1997, p. 1). Starting with Ash Wednesday,
Hahn compares how despite a father s best intentions to keep his promises, he is only human, and will
not always be around when his children need him the most, while our eternal Father, God, will never
fail to fulfill his word. Week one of the Lenten season starts with the Creation story. The creation
account addresses not how, but what and why God created demonstrating a profound complementarily
of religion and science, faith and reason. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth
(Genesis 1:1), to point out the two main realms within creation: the spiritual and the material. Spiritual
refers to the immaterial realm, which is occupied by pure spirits and the heavenly hosts , while
material points to the earthly habitat God made for humanity. Week two starts by revealing sin as a

Income Inequality And The Distribution Of Wealth And Income
Income Inequality
Income inequality is the extent to which income is distributed unevenly in a country, it measures by
what extent is the distribution of income within a country deviating from perfect equality. It is an
important measure to determine the fairness in a country and the social outcome in a country such as
the level of corruption, crime rate and poverty. Countries make use of the Lorenz curve to help show
the graphical representation of the distribution of wealth and income. Income inequality in Canada has
increased over the past 20 years. Canada reduced inequality in the 1980s, with the Gini coefficient
reaching a low of 0.281 in 1989 ( Income inequality , 2013, Is Canada becoming more unequal?,
para.1). Gini coefficient is a measure of statistical dispersion intended to represent the income
distribution of a nation s residents, and is the most commonly used measure of inequality. Income
inequality rose in the 1990s, but has remained around 0.32 in the 2000s.
Income inequality is quite important when deciding the level of development of a country. As a
country becomes more developed, the income and wealth distribution of a country is questioned.
Income inequality shows that a country is becoming more developed but brings the issue of the social
issues (for example corruption). Government in Canada over the years have increased personal
income taxes and government transfers (such as social assistance, unemployment insurance, old age

A Research Study On Organizational Politics Essay
Introduction
Organizational Politics have been a long standing issue in organizational settings since corporate
businesses were established. Empirical data has only been available in the last twenty years, as
researchers considered it subjective in nature. Primary to understanding the need for such study is
realizing the adverse effects pointing to countless victims along with brutal violations of self serving
agendas. (Brian K. Miller, 2008)
Studies note that there are positive political tactics, such as persuasion, reference to super ordinate
goals, development of coalitions, and networking. (Brian K. Miller, 2008) Some may want to believe
that, however the unrecoverable loss associated with job satisfaction, organizational reputation, and
employee commitment when organizations allow unsanctioned business practices into their culture is
undeniable. The question seemingly never considered is; why would an organization choose such a
culture, how do leaders change it; and foremost, shouldn t leaders do so with an interdisciplinary
approach?
Empirical Studies There have thousands upon thousands of empirical studies performed at a scholarly
level over the course of two decades. Experienced researchers of multiple disciplines from Economics,
Finance, Human Resources, Organizational Behavior, Psychology, Sociology, and Ethics have
categorically focused their theories upon five of the most prevailing factors common to overall job
fulfillment; job satisfaction,

Why Spanking Is Wrong
Sitting back and watching the destruction of our youth is very disconcerting. We need to take back our
youth from the streets, clubs, and gangs. There has been a sort of disconnect with the way youths are
being raised because, parents can no longer spank their kids when they do wrong. Society has decided
that spanking was too harsh and that parents needed to find other ways to discipline their children.
Spanking is a type of corporal punishment that is commonly used to discipline children. Without
producing any physical injury, the parent will normally strike the child s bottom with their open hand,
belt, or a switch (which is normally a tiny off a tree) for inappropriate behavior.
The argument over whether a child should be spank or not has ... Show more content on

If a child gets a spanking he will view it as violence to get what he wants but thinks the parents
condones violence because he received a spanking. When that is not the case, most children that
receives a spanking knows what they did was wrong and they should not do those things again.
Spanking is not a form of violence but a form of discipline that helps parents keep their children in
line. Those parents that believes in spanking, most comes from a Christian background. It is widely
believed the God commands them to spank for the wrongdoing. The Christians knows in the Bible it
says in Proverbs 19:18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying .
So, therefore they have no problems spanking the children for their misdeeds. The parents who does
not believe in spanking, thinks that other forms of punishment such as time out is effective. Contrary
to popular believe, that may work for some but not all. There has to be a middle ground somewhere.
Some parents thinks that giving a child stern talk will also help. There has not been proof that it

me this opportunity to speak, I m 100% sure you will regret it.
Now I would be remissed if I addressed the class of 2017 without remembering a classmate who is no
longer with us Ayla Lundy who was a great friend to everyone, and was always willing to help other,
took with her a smile that was able to brighten up anyone s day. I would hope that ... Show more

C. P. S. for giving us each a piece of something to take with us into high school.
Now I m sure you re expecting a young, smart, charming individual like me to give a sappy like
speech about following your dreams and reaching for the stars, but let s be real we all know Aiden H
would take care of that for me. Here it goes I will make it quick because we all know that JD is dying
to raise his hand and ask loads of irrelevant questions simply to annoy the audience.
We are all guilty of counting down the days but now as you look to the people on your left and your
right, you realize maybe this wasn t so bad.
It s crazy to look out at all of you knowing very well this maybe the last time I do. You have all grown
up so much and as time dragged on slowly we started to become our own person. People fine
themselves in school. Brady realized that his homework is better off at school rather than left at
grandmas. And Sarah who I never heard talk until this year finally found her voice and now we can t
get her to be quiet. But these changes are for the good really they are for the

Gender In Victorianism

Victorianism
Victorianism is the cultural influence orchestrated by the reign of Queen Victoria from the year 1837
to the year 1901. The dominant notions of these times were moralizing, prudish, repressed and old
fashion, as opposed to traditional. The above elements of culture traversed across the English society
to other parts of America, influencing how people dressed and celebrated. The central ideas of
Victorianism emerged during the period of early Victorianism. Significant developments during this
period included science, economics, and social lifestyle. In terms of politics, there was the
introduction of democracy and parliamentary system of governance. This was also the time that the
Anglicanism, through the Church of England stroke a balance with other Catholic communities. The
dominant social values during the period of Victorianism were patriarchal families and well defined
roles of mothers and fathers.
Construction of gender during Victorianism. Prior to the Victorianism period, the roles of men and
women had no specific definition. Victorianism brought a sharp definition of gender roles with father
specializing in specific tasks different from mothers. Formerly, the women and men could easily work
alongside each other. During the onset of Victorianism, many men got into formal employment that
entailed traveling long distances to work in different professions. Men left behind their wives at home
to take care

Apollo 13
INTRODUCTION
Apollo 13, the 1995 motion picture directed by Ron Howard, is the true story of Jim Lovell, Fred
Haise, and Jack Swigert, a team of astronauts reassigned to a space flight with diminished preparation
time. This routine mission to the moon suddenly becomes a survival mission to safely return home to
Earth. The film details the circumstances affecting two separate but cohesive teams. The purpose of
this case analysis is to identify the critical events, explain the underlying causes of why these events
happened, and draw logical conclusions about the teams¡¯ performances as related to effective
teamwork and leadership.
MOVIE ANALYSIS (WHAT)
The first critical event of the film gives the Apollo 13 astronauts their mission. Alan ... Show more

In this portion of the analysis, both evidence and inference will be used to examine the stages of group
development, the GRP¡úI Model, and team leadership.
The Forming Stage Both teams in the film progress through the four stages of group development;
forming, norming, storming and performing; however, not much emphasis is placed on the initial
forming stage. In the beginning of the film during a party celebrating the first successful moon landing
of Apollo 11, Lovell, Haise and Mattingly appear to have a working/social relationship as they have
already been slated as the team to fly the future Apollo 14 mission. It is inferred that these men have
previously been through the forming stage as the film does not depict a formal introduction of the
team members to each other.
The Norming Stage In the norming stage, the Apollo 13 crew is faced with creating cohesion and
unity, differentiating roles, identifying expectations and enhancing commitment (Whetten Cameron,
2005). Due to Alan Shepherd¡¯s ear infection, however, the crew is bumped up to a mission ahead of
schedule, allowing only six months of actual preparation. The training sequences within the film, as
well as Mattingly¡¯s commitment for accuracy and precision, are clear indicators that the crew is
going through the norming stage. When Mattingly is unexpectedly scrubbed from the mission, and
Swigert is moved up into his place, the crew is forced to revert back to the forming stage. The crew,

Moving Across The Country Essay
Changes in life are just there, some you can predict and others you can t. Sometimes changes are huge
and others are not. Some sudden changes in life are moving across the country, your mom and dad
remarrying and women starting to become equal to men. Moving across the country is an enormous
change to someone s life. I my personal experience moving across the country is hard. Especially,
when you go from the country to the city as I did. I had to go to a new school, get new friends, and
here about things that I really didn t know how to deal with. It was like hitting rock bottom after you
just got to the top. This shows how moving to one place can make you feel horrible for no reason what
so ever. I had to reinvent myself from country girl to city girl it was exhausting. This proves how hard
it was to change because you are so used to being completely different. Moving across the country is a
big change and it can be hard. When your mom and dad remarry it is a change you just have to deal,
but it s harder to be happy when you don t like who they married. From my personal experience of my
parents getting remarried it is one of the best or worse things to ... Show more content on

But Noor was not forgotten. At first it may not seem as the best quote to start off with, but in Noor
Khan s case it is the perfect one to start out with. Noor was the first women to do a man s job so she
was never forgotten to France and Great Britain. France awarded her the Croix de Guerre (Cross of
War) and Great Britain awarded her the George Cross, Great Britain s highest award for courage
somewhere other than on a battlefield. This proves how Noor was not forgotten. She may have been
killed by Nazies, but she changed or turned two whole country s opinion of women and the way they
were treated. To wrap up Noor Inayat Khan was the first woman to do a man s job and she change to

Eastern Woodlands Research Paper
Eastern Woodlands Many environmental factors allowed Native tribes of the Eastern Woodlands to
shape and develop their own culture. Water was abundant, rivers and access to oceans enabled the
Natives to grow and rely mainly on crops, like beans, corn and squash, travel, trade and communicate
via water way. Natives used these rivers to trade and gain materials, such as copper, quartz, and pearls,
develop relationships with other tribes, and explore new territory. Access to these natural resources
gave artists the inspiration and material to create sophisticated and beautiful work. Communication
with neighboring tribes to forge peace, resulted in less warfare. Dense forests provided ample wood

  • 4. Effectiveness Of Britain s Trade Policy On Economic Recovery The inter war period saw a multitude of different trade policies being used throughout the world. Britain s was one of protectionism, but in their situation their policies seemed to be effective and played a significant role in the quick economic recovery Britain experienced during the 1930s. To explain my evaluation of the effectiveness of Britain s trade policy on their economic recovery in the 1930s, the differing views on the effect of the General Tariff will be examined, taking into account effective protection rates, nominal tariffs, and import substitutions. Additionally, the role trade regionalization played and the legacies that the trade policies left will be inspected. The most debated aspect of the effectiveness of their, now more protectionist, trade policies were the tariffs imposed by Britain. In Forrest Capie s The British Tariff and Industrial Protection in the 1930 s, he argues that the tariffs were a hindrance to the economic recovery. His conclusion is drawn from calculations on the effective protection rates on the tariffs from the General Tariff in 1932; where he found that the iron and steel industries effective protection rates were in the bottom 5% and construction was experiencing negative rates. This is important to him because these were industries that are supposed to have played a role in the recovery of the British economy in the 1930s, causing Capie to believe that if there were no tariffs Britain s economic recovery would have been ... • 5. New Testament Research Paper What is New Testament? The New Testament is a collection of books which contains the writings concerning the significant events in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. These books appeared after the physical death of Jesus Christ. In this regard, Jesus had left no records concerning him, and all that is written about him depends wholly on what other people have written about him. The first four books of the New Testament are part of the several biographies of Jesus which were written by the end of the first century of the era of Christianity. Then before any of these biographies have been drafted, there were Christian communities which were being instructed through epistles on how to live like Jesus and how to solve their problem like Christians. A good number of these letters were written by a man called Paul. After Paul death, some other new leaders of the Christian movement continued to write letters to the churches to encourage and strengthen them. As Christians grew in number persecution arose, and some letters have been drafted to support them and also to counter the false doctrines. These letters are part of the New Testament. The twenty seven books of the New Testament were selected from the list of writings in that period (Bruce, 1988) The New Testament is a history of Jesus of Nazareth and his ... Wilfred Owen was a war poet who served in world war one. In Owens poems of Dulce Et Decourm Est and Anthem for Doomed youth . Both poems explore the ideas of meaningless sacrifice and suffering as wells as the horrors of war. Owen used many poetic techniques to help him convey his ideas of war. Young lives are wasted in war which only increases the cruelty and meaningless of it. Wilfred Owen s poem, Dulce et Decorum est follows the death of a young soldier. Owen successfully evokes the ideas of truth in the poem Dulce et Decorum est the line You would not believe with such high zest, to children ardent for some desperate glory, the old lie through the use of metaphors and personification Owen demonstrates that the reality of the individual s experience in war meant that they ended up challenging their sense of duty, their blind patriotism and understood that the true meaning of war is futile. The unimaginable suffering they lived through further highlights this reality. Also in the poem Anthem for doomed youth Owen explores the truth of war in the quote Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes. Owen uses the technique of symbolism to link the glimmers of goodbyes to a funeral. Many soldiers did not receive proper funeral rights and were just buried in mass graves. Owen also shows the truth of war through the mortality of war in his oxymoronic approach of the colossal loss of life. A very important chapter titled, Marita s Bargain , explains the flaws in today s public school systems. He shows the problems with the solutions to fix them while showing the alternatives to the regular system such as the KIPP Program in New York. The KIPP Program (Knowledge is Power Program) is a new kind of middle school that selects students from less fortunate locations and uses unique teaching strategies to turn them around into fantastic learners. In the chapter, Gladwell is extremely descriptive by using visual words to paint the picture of the South Bronx in New York City. He describes the buildings that were built in the 1960 s as squat and bleak looking. Gladwell had an interest in this subject as it involves success, however he had no prior experiences to produce the piece. Gladwell establishes personal credibility through the use of knowledge, reason, and facts and figures. He comes across very knowledgeable on the subject presenting great data with excellent vocabulary. He is able to do this with no obvious bias as well. Dietary nitrate has been shown to improve the mitochondrial functioning as it affects proteins involved in uncoupling contributing to an increase performance in exercise. The pathway begins through consumption of dietary nitrates that are converted to nitrites by bacteria in the oral cavity. The reduction of nitrates to nitrites may affect hemoglobin. Excess nitrites added to deoxygenated hemoglobin will oxidize to form methemoglobin and nitric oxide (Gladwin Kim Shapiro, 2008). This formation can hinder oxygen transport and is the common cause for concern in nitrite toxicity. Formation of nitric oxide allows for its use and reuse in cellular activities and may carry out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The body must go through chemical processes for healthy cellular function and homeostasis. Human beings not only consume dietary nitrates but, the body also synthesizes nitrates endogenously. This arises from the oxidation of nitrogen oxide and its end products. The synthesis of nitrates to nitrites occurs endogenously and exogenously in the body. Consumption of inorganic nitrates and nitrites will undergo reductive processes for the body s use and elimination. Nitrates and Nitrites both contain nitrogen in its chemical structure. Nitrogen, in of itself, is often conserved to be reused by the body s cells. Inorganic nitrates and nitrates that are consumed must be equally eliminated. The metabolism of nitrates and nitrites ultimately result in its elimination through salivary excretion or urination. Ingestion of inorganic nitrates will first undergo reductive activity in the oral cavity through the bacteria present on the tongue. The metabolism continues until nitrites are converted to nitric oxide where it enters the circulatory system and distributed to different target tissues. The concentration of nitrites in the salivary glands account for 25% of total dietary intake of nitrates (Gehle, 2007). The remaining concentration of nitrites are distributed in circulation and eventually eliminated through the urine. Each route of elimination helps to rid the body of potentially toxic ... Reflection Paper About Moving To Jordan As I descended through those fluffy white clouds in the middle seat of the airplane, I was overwhelmed with such incredibly nostalgic memories that suddenly rushed into my mind. Surprisingly, an abrupt wave of anxiety caused me to feel like there were hundreds of butterflies flying all around in my stomach. However, this anxiety did not deter my excitement one bit to take on this strangely familiar adventure once again. So after swallowing my fears and seeing the breathtaking landscape from the window of the plane, I knew that I had made it back to Jordan. Last summer, I went on an incredibly fun family vacation to Jordan. However, I have to admit that I definitely was not expecting to have that level of enjoyment during my trip. One of the biggest reasons why I felt this way about returning back to Jordan was because I spoke formal Arabic. Additionally, since all of my family in Jordan only spoke and understood informal Arabic as well as a Jordanian dialect that I was unfamiliar with, I knew that I was going to struggle to communicate with them. Moreover, given that Jordan is a country that primarily speaks an informal Jordanian dialect of Arabic as its first language, I felt as if I was going to be hopeless stranger. In fact, I never really understood the importance of speaking two languages growing up. I had always thought that learning English alone was sufficient enough. Quite simply, I did not realize the impact the Arabic language played in shaping my identity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children is a perfect example of a work that doesn t leave us in very high spirits but touches us in such a way that it becomes even more powerful than if it had. Throughout the play the title character, Mother Courage, is presented to us in such a way that the reader is usually left not knowing how to feel. We have with two choices. On the one hand she can be a money grubbing, self concerned woman who only cares about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As each dies she just seems to pick up and move on, with a brief moment of sorrow. This is a characteristic that adds to the readers contempt for her, and rightly so. Wouldn t you think the death of a child would affect a mother to the point of agony? But it doesn t seem to reach Mother Courage on this level. Why is it, that in spite of losing all her children, Mother Courage fails to see the light? She conducts business even at the end, paying for Kattrin s burial. Basically, she has learned nothing, saying, quot;I must get back into business. quot; Although Brecht wants us to condemn her for her sentiments at the end, it is difficult to do so. Part of the problem is that we are not presented with a better alternative. Had she not conducted business at each moment when her children were killed, then she would not have been able to feed her remaining family. So, while we may not agree with her outlook on life, it is difficult to condemn her for her actions. Kattrin s body is kept onstage in the last scene because it represents the death of selflessness. Helping others does not pay; by keeping the body onstage, Brecht is showing the audience that only people like Mother Courage can survive in the world. By making us despise Mother Courage, Brecht is trying to get his audience to realize that the world in which we live needs to be changed. Kattrin represents an alternative and idealized world that cannot yet exist in our own world. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. From Spaniard And Indian Summary By the late eighteenth century, the New World, which was still remote, had formed its own complicated individual and national identities. Moreover, the disparate communities within Latin America had established a unique culture characterized by its hybridity. A close reading of Ignacio de Castro s From Spaniard and Indian, a Mestizo is born and Agostino Brunias s Planter and His Wife with a Servant reveals the racial hierarchy that formed amid Latin America s hybridity. Additionally, both objects specifically express Latin American hybridity for a white, European class, likely as a means to demystify and boost the standing of the New World. The Argument Of The Chinese Room ( CR ) The Chinese Room (CR) is a thought experiment intended to prove that a computer cannot have a mental life with a strong sense of intelligence alike to one that humans possess because a computer does not have a genuine understanding. Rather, a computer is a mere simulator of understanding, and by extension, a simulator of intelligence. According to John Searle, because computers lack a true understanding they are rendered incapable of possessing mental life as we know and experience it (Searle 2004). In the following paper, I intend to explain and philosophically examine John Searle s argument of CR and will then proceed to reject his theory based on a series of objections. I will do this by examining the concept of human intelligence through a filmic analogy, put forth the Systems Reply objection, and examine how the CR argument is foregrounded in anthropocentric bias that presupposes only humans are capable of true intelligence. Overall, I argue that CR fails to convincingly argue that only humans can possess a human intelligence because it is an argument based more on intuitive claims, than sound reasoning. As promised, I begin by outlining the main crux of the Chinese Room argument. If you imagine a sealed room where through a slot you can submit questions written in Chinese and you can receive answers in Chinese, your inclination is more than likely going to be to assume that whomever resides within the room understands, and is able to, communicate in Chinese. ... On the other hand, the audiences of Shape are mostly young women who are interested in reducing their weights or shaping up. Also, the copies of Splendor fetch audiences attention by appealing to their longing for romance and affections. The ad of True Love also appeals to sexuality by showing a woman with a drowsy expression in a lying down position. The second appeal I found is the need for autonomy, the need to credit the self. The three ads about women s suits, glassware, and make up are great examples. An ad of women s suit has five women in five different gray suits who look competent. The catch phrase says, Let em know who you are. The other ad of glassware shows a beautiful white woman in a white blouse with glasses. She has her blond hair put up, and she is reading a paper. The copy on the upper left corner reads, Endless Possibilities. The third ad of Maybelline s foundation cake also has a white woman wearing white blouse with her hair up. All of these three ads have women who look aspired, intellectual, and independent. These ads strike women s strong need to become the way they want, and to endorse themselves. These appeals are effective in persuading women to buy the products by giving women illusions that they will look sexy or independent just like the women in the ads if they buy the products. Wittlinger pushed some boundaries and touched on subjects one may be hesitant to speak of aloud. The protagonist and main character of the book is Sandpiper Ragsdale. Sandpiper is 15 years old and attends high school like many other teens her age, but her life isn t so simple. At this school, Sandpiper has given herself a bad reputation. Lenten Reflections from A Father Who Keeps His Promises Scott Hahn s purpose for the Lenten Reflections from A Father Who Keeps His Promises is to share the biblical story of God s covenant love in salvation history each day beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending with Divine Mercy Sunday. Hahn provides reflections for each day retelling the stories that make up the Story. Scripture testifies to how God has cared for his family throughout the ages, making a way for his children to live with him forever. As the Lenten season begins, God s master plan is to form and fashion a human family to share in the infinite love of the Trinity (Hahn, 1997, p. 1). Starting with Ash Wednesday, Hahn compares how despite a father s best intentions to keep his promises, he is only human, and will not always be around when his children need him the most, while our eternal Father, God, will never fail to fulfill his word. Week one of the Lenten season starts with the Creation story. The creation account addresses not how, but what and why God created demonstrating a profound complementarily of religion and science, faith and reason. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1), to point out the two main realms within creation: the spiritual and the material. Income Inequality And The Distribution Of Wealth And Income Income Inequality Income inequality is the extent to which income is distributed unevenly in a country, it measures by what extent is the distribution of income within a country deviating from perfect equality. It is an important measure to determine the fairness in a country and the social outcome in a country such as the level of corruption, crime rate and poverty. Countries make use of the Lorenz curve to help show the graphical representation of the distribution of wealth and income. Income inequality in Canada has increased over the past 20 years. Canada reduced inequality in the 1980s, with the Gini coefficient reaching a low of 0.281 in 1989 ( Income inequality , 2013, Is Canada becoming more unequal?, para.1). Gini coefficient is a measure of statistical dispersion intended to represent the income distribution of a nation s residents, and is the most commonly used measure of inequality. Income inequality rose in the 1990s, but has remained around 0.32 in the 2000s. Income inequality is quite important when deciding the level of development of a country. As a country becomes more developed, the income and wealth distribution of a country is questioned. Empirical data has only been available in the last twenty years, as researchers considered it subjective in nature. Primary to understanding the need for such study is realizing the adverse effects pointing to countless victims along with brutal violations of self serving agendas. (Brian K. Now I m sure you re expecting a young, smart, charming individual like me to give a sappy like speech about following your dreams and reaching for the stars, but let s be real we all know Aiden H would take care of that for me. Here it goes I will make it quick because we all know that JD is dying to raise his hand and ask loads of irrelevant questions simply to annoy the audience. We are all guilty of counting down the days but now as you look to the people on your left and your right, you realize maybe this wasn t so bad. It s crazy to look out at all of you knowing very well this maybe the last time I do. You have all grown up so much and as time dragged on slowly we started to become our own person. • 45. Apollo 13 INTRODUCTION Apollo 13, the 1995 motion picture directed by Ron Howard, is the true story of Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert, a team of astronauts reassigned to a space flight with diminished preparation time. This routine mission to the moon suddenly becomes a survival mission to safely return home to Earth. The film details the circumstances affecting two separate but cohesive teams. The purpose of this case analysis is to identify the critical events, explain the underlying causes of why these events happened, and draw logical conclusions about the teams¡¯ performances as related to effective teamwork and leadership. In this portion of the analysis, both evidence and inference will be used to examine the stages of group development, the GRP¡úI Model, and team leadership. The Forming Stage Both teams in the film progress through the four stages of group development; forming, norming, storming and performing; however, not much emphasis is placed on the initial forming stage. In the beginning of the film during a party celebrating the first successful moon landing of Apollo 11, Lovell, Haise and Mattingly appear to have a working/social relationship as they have already been slated as the team to fly the future Apollo 14 mission. It is inferred that these men have previously been through the forming stage as the film does not depict a formal introduction of the team members to each other. The Norming Stage In the norming stage, the Apollo 13 crew is faced with creating cohesion and unity, differentiating roles, identifying expectations and enhancing commitment (Whetten Cameron, 2005). Due to Alan Shepherd¡¯s ear infection, however, the crew is bumped up to a mission ahead of schedule, allowing only six months of actual preparation. The training sequences within the film, as well as Mattingly¡¯s commitment for accuracy and precision, are clear indicators that the crew is going through the norming stage. When Mattingly is unexpectedly scrubbed from the mission, and Swigert is moved up into his place, the crew is forced to revert back to the forming stage. The crew, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
