The Chinese Culture And Chinese Values
Conflicts and tensions between Britain and China broke out during the Qing dynasty due to Britain s
ignorance towards Chinese culture and discrepancies between Chinese and Western values. Reflected
in Lord Macartney s account of his first meeting with Emperor Qianlong in 1792, the source
highlights Britain s belief of how they had taken the right steps to impress the Emperor to begin
establishing stronger trade relations with China. However, Britain were ignorant of the negative
attitudes towards traders in the Chinese culture and China s inferior view of non Chinese nations.
Therefore, although Britain intended to negotiate trade relations with China in a respectful manner,
their ignorance towards Chinese culture and discrepancies between ... Show more content on

As seen in Henry Dunda s Commission to Lord Macartney where he was asked to take every possible
opportunity that may arise...for promoting the trade of India to the East. The beginning of Macartney s
account illustrates his intention of being respectful towards the emperor and Chinese culture. He
provides a detailed description about what he is wearing to show the attention [he] always paid...to
oriental customs and ideas. However, when addressing the emperor, he bowed on one knee instead of
following the Chinese custom of kowtow . The kowtow is the important action of bowing before the
emperor and touching the head to the ground which represented China s sense of moral, spiritual, and
intellectual superiority . Therefore, Britain s ignorance of basic Chinese cultural values such as the
kowtow suggests Britain s ignorance of more significant values of Qing China related to Chinese
attitudes in trade. In Confucianism and the Chinese culture, merchants and traders in the Chinese
culture were looked down upon as they profited from exploiting other people s creations. This
negative stigma surrounding traders clashed with Britain s aims of increasing their exports to China as
the Chinese would be indifferent towards increasing their imports. However, the desperate need to
obtain trade equality with China caused

Egyptian Worship Gods Essay
The Egyptians worshiped many gods and Goddesses, Building temples which they offered them food,
water, clothes three times a day. They carved statues to show their many forms like the Horus and the
goddess of battle, or Bastet, a proud cat. Some were worshiped in only one place like crocodile god
Sobek, who lived in the river. Others, like the sun god Amun Re, were worshiped everywhere. There
were many ceremonies and ways to worshiping gods, Some of them are the Opet Festival, Amen s
ceremony at Karnak, this was most important in the New Kingdom, (1550 1077 BC). It took place on
the 19th day of the second month of the first season. During the Beautiful Feast of the Valley,

Job Analysis Paper
The reason for job analysis is to study and evaluate the things that a job is supposed to involve. This is
describing exactly what skills are needed to perform the job, and what the exact qualifications are to
fill the position. Job analysis is a method needed when the employee need to know the precise
function. An example would be that an employee s duties should be clearly stated. So, a jobs analyst is
to observe the employee at his or her current duties. This is also helpful in deciding what the
requirements are to perform this job more effectively. As well jobs continue to change so a job analyst

In 1996 across the state of Texas the Texas Evaluation Model for Professional School Counselors
(TEMPSCO) was implemented. This serves as a form of regular analysis of an all school counselors.
It is also pertinent for counselors teaching grades Pre School 12th grades. It is documented on The
School Guidance and Counseling Job Evaluation Form. Eight Domains of Job Performance
There are a multitude of sub categories to the eight domains that are observed in the job analysis. This
includes certain standards of personal behavior and job performance of the person in this position. All
of the standards are provided by the Texas Education Code, Title 2, Public Education, Subtitle F.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tariffs
CHALLENGES
BARRIERS RELATING TO CUSTOMS
Many companies, particularly those in the retail sector, have suggested that tariffs present the greatest
barrier to cross border e commerce. This problem does not exist within the EU, which is a free trade
area; however, when exporting to countries outside of the EU tariffs are, indeed, a major problem. One
business suggested that outside of the EU, tariffs are always the most problematic . Tariffs raise the
price of the products sold by e traders and consequently reduce their competitiveness. Tariffs are,
however, not more of a problem for e commerce than they are for traditional trade. Therefore, in this
study we have chosen not to delve deeper into the levels of the tariffs, but instead to focus ... Show

One clear example of this is the requirement to use paper invoices and handwritten contracts. This
increases the administrative burden for companies and makes the use of various online based services
impossible. One business gave an example of a service using an internet based platform where the
delivery of goods is automatically registered in the recipient s invoicing system. It is not possible to
use this service in countries such as Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine, where the use of paper invoices
and handwritten contracts is a requirement.
Double taxation
E commerce creates revenues overseas, and there is, therefore, a risk of double taxation. Fortunately,
bilateral agreements often exist to deal with this. Despite such agreements being in place, one business
reported having problems in Norway, in this respect. The company had established a subsidiary in
Norway and sold its products online to customers from this subsidiary in order to avoid double

Summary Of Green Eggs And Ham
Throughout his political career, Ted Cruz has had his ups and downs. I believe that because he is
labeled as very conservative and religious, the very slightest stray away from these values results in
public uproar. In 2013, Cruz read Green Eggs and Ham during the 21 hour filibuster on the Senate
Floor. It s ironic that he chose this story to read as a method to debase the Affordable Care Act. The
story Green Eggs and Ham follows a character that is certain that he doesn t like green eggs and ham.
Nevertheless, this character has never tried it. At the end of the story, the character discovers that he
actually like green eggs and ham. The moral of the story is that it s important to try new things and be
open to new ideas and suggestions.

Essay on Duddy s Focus on Wealth
In my opinion, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, a book written by Mordecai Richler, is
ultimately about money. Simcha Kravitz, Duddy s grandfather, would tell Duddy as a child that a man
without land is nobody. These words encouraged him to live his life in a manner in which he would do
anything he could in order to obtain the land that a nobody would not possess. But Duddy does not
solely focus his desires on land; instead, his goals are set on wealth in general.
In order to acquire wealth, Duddy engages in acts of dishonesty and deceit. He does this by exploiting
the weaknesses of his friends, such as Virgil Roseboro and Yvette Durelle, while completely
disregarding the fact that by doing this, his dignity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Duddy ends up forging Virgil s signature on a check in order to access Virgil s bank account and steal
his money. Although this money help s Duddy purchase the remainder of his land, in the process he
becomes a despised and wretched tyrant. Not only does this result in the annihilation of Duddy s
friendship with Virgil, but also results in the loss of Yvette s respect for Duddy. It becomes quite
obvious that Duddy did not value his friendships as much as he did his wealth, as if he did, he would
ve earned money the proper way, as a waiter, and wouldn t have resorted to such ruthless acts in order
to attain complacency. It s quite disappointing to learn how he would sacrifice the only loving
relationship he ever had (with Yvette) just so he can obtain land. Normally, a person who lived a life
devoid of love would be desperate to acquire it. However, Duddy still decided to pursue his dreams of
owning land on the contrary to pursuing a loving relationship that his life was in need of.
Come to think of it, Duddy s life has been morally derailed ever since he was a child. As a child, he
took advantage of the fact that as a minor, he was not susceptible to lawsuits. He broke the law
frequently in attempt to obtain more wealth. Such examples of this would include his fraudulent
behaviour with stamp companies, his selling of stolen hockey sticks, and his distribution of
pornographic comic books. In an entrepreneurial sense, Duddy had the correct goals;

topic of slavery in the nineteenth century. In west Africa there is a small country along the coast called
Benin. The whole country is in controversy over the country s history and whether or not they should

Increasing Vehicle Outsourcing ( % Of Car Value ) Essay
In a finished product, out of most of the industries only one particular company, provide a very little
amount of the total value. Hence to improve the process within the company lean techniques are used
so that the total impact will not be high when it is applied to a broader supply chain. Figure 1.
Increasing vehicle outsourcing (% of car value). The above fig represents the birth place of lean,
which is an automotive industry and it shows the trend towards outsource and vehicle s total value.
And, it represents the trend of the three European makers accordingly. Lean techniques have shown a
positive trend within the companies and in broader supply chain. To understand across a broader chain
supply, the three principles namely pull, level loaded work and synchronization helps understanding
the interaction between the suppliers and customers or within a company. The trend of implementing
lean technology has grown into a broader spectrum. The Toyota production the TPS were applied
where only manufacturing efficiency was the aim. Later in 1970 and 1980 s supply complexity,
market and distribution, service was concentrated when the company became more globalized, and the
aim was to improve the quality, control over effective process. In 1990 s, lean supply chain was
extended to a wider enterprise which included subsidiaries, contractors of third party, distributors. In
the last decade, starting from the supplier of the raw material to end customer, lean theory

Running head: HOW HETERONORMATIVITY AND MEDIA STEREOTYPES IN SOCIETY

How heteronormativity and media stereotypes influences how queer people express their sexualities
Vanessa Gomes
Ryerson University
Who is the man in the relationship? Who tops or bottoms? These questions have become a
fundamental part in queer people s lives. Why do non queer people need for queer people and their
relationships to imitate heternormative heterosexual ones to understand them? Why are all lesbian
women portrayed as butch, and all gay men as flamboyant? Do these ideas being reinforced over and

In media, queer men and women are almost always portrayed in stereotypical roles, and bisexuality is
almost always expressed as a phase or not real. These ideas affect how others view queer identities
and how queer people view their own identity, and the social norms around them. Men are commonly
described as feminine whilst women are portrayed as masculine (Tara Sarper, 2013). How did these
widespread ideas come to exist and how do they continue to affect members of the community? These
stereotypes can be harmful as they build a picture of what it means to be a certain sexuality, as well as
the heteronormativity behind the stereotype. We often see queer people in relationships being asked
who s the dominant one, the man in the relationship, the top, etc. These ideas come from a
heteronormative society that puts harmful misogynistic norms even in relationships where women
might not be present. Where does the overwhelming pressure for there to be a man or top in the
relationship come from, and why are those two associated with each other? Since same sex
relationships go against the norm in society, society still puts pressure on heternormative ideas to be
present in them. If two men decide they want to be exclusively a bottom or top, dominant or
submissive, in either their sexual relationship or in their general dynamic, that is their choice and right
to do so. However, a social constructionist would say

Newsreels During The Second World War
Newsreels, five minute recordings depicting around four stories kept on a reel, were widely produced
across Western countries between approximately 1910 and 1967 (Boyer, 2015). In this time, news
corporations were founded and developed, and while this brought new possibilities to broadcasting
and documenting information, there were multiple limitations including cumbersome equipment and
censorship (Aspects of Britain; Broadcasting, 1993). This time also saw several important historic
events, such as the Great War later known as World War One 1914 to 1918, the Spanish Civil War
1936 to 1939, and World War Two 1939 to 1945 (McKernan, 2000)
The first British newsreel was issued in June 1910; the weekly Pathe s Animated Gazette. By 1912, it
would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This suggests that newsreels before the beginning of the Second World War are useless as sources for
history, as their information gathering was mediocre and unreliable.
In the 1960 s, audio visual technology was becoming easier to manoeuvre and access. The Vietnam
War, dubbed The Living Room War , was the first war to be recorded and broadcast directly into
people s homes (Hallin, unknown), with televisions having been on the rise since the 1950 s
(Television in the 1950 s, unknown). It is this rise of television that cause the newsreel to become
obsolete in 1967 (Schoenherr, 2008).
It appears from this analysis and these sources that newsreels are not a strong, reliable source for
history, due to a lack of policies, faked footage, cumbersome technology and other difficulties.
However, this is not to say that newsreels don t reflect values and trends of the time, or that newsreels
are completely useless. Without newsreels and their potentially unethical practices, broadcasting news
corporations such as the BBC would not have developed into the large, global organisations that they
are today. And, as with most history sources, newsreels can easily be used as an easily accessible base
before conducting further, cross referencing research, as is often used by

1906 San Francisco Earthquake Research Paper
Famous for its Golden Gate Bridge, street cars traveling up and down the hilly city, and a haunted
prison abandoned on Alcatraz Island, San Francisco is a city unlike any other. San Francisco during
the early 1900s, too was a great city. It was on the rise from the gold rush and a fairly new
transcontinental railroad that connected the growing western city to the rest of the united states.
On April, 18 1906, San Francisco would be divested by several disasters. That morning at five, the
San Andreas Fault shifted, resulting in an earthquake with a strength of 7.8 on the Richter Scale. It
shocked San Francisco and the surrounding areas. The quake lasted 45 seconds to one minute only,
and caused major damage and loss of life. The buildings in San Francisco during the time were largely
made of wood and some of the newly built ones were made of brick and stone. City officials worked
with builders for this change in response to six fires that occurred closely together before the
earthquake, (Gunn, 2008). The new brick buildings could survive a fire, but it was ... Show more

The earthquake had caused the gas lines and water mains to break. Not making the situation any
easier, power and communication lines also came down as a result of the shaking. All of the damage
and human activity equated to numerous fires that would last for three days. Adding to the cluster of
chaos that city officials and emergency services had to endure, was the fact that there was no water to
mitigate the fires, since there was no water pressure from the water mains that broke during the quake.
The problem that they faced was a possibility they thought could happen. However, they never did
anything to avoid the fact that the water mains would fail them in result of an earthquake. A plan had
even been made to pump water from the San Francisco bay, however it was never implemented,

Summary Of The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch
Randy Pausch, the author of the book titled The Last Lecture offers insight about his childhood, adult
life and how he copes with his terminal illness. For example, I agree with his advice about how
complaining won t get you where you want to be. He states, If you took one tenth the energy you put
into complaining and applied it to solving the problem, you d be surprised by how well things can
work out... Complaining does not work as a strategy. We all have finite time and energy. Any time we
spend whining is unlikely to help us achieve our goals. And it won t make us happier.
Randy Pausch argues the importance of achieving the goals you want, while you still can. He explains
that, even he is still achieving his goals even with this terminal illness and he doesn t complain. The

I was really surprised when Randy mentions in order to be a great optimist, you need to think

Summary Of Gone By Anh Do
On page 3, the images displays four kids on the floor playing with some chickens. Since the book is
written by Anh Do in first person, we first assume that one of the 4 children in the picture is him.
Again to reinforce that assumption, the image is in sepia tone referring to the past. Something that is
different in the picture, is that it s drawn more cartoon like rather than a realistic form. The cartoon
form is a symbolism of childhood; Anh Do s childhood. The facial expression on the children look
happy. They seem like they were having fun playing with the chicken. Returning back to the two

Ancient Egyptian Art And Contribution To Late Mesolithic Art
There are many different art styles around the world that developed in various ways. Ancient Egyptian
art is around 5 thousand years old, and it is a major contributor to late Mesolithic Art. It arose and took
shape in the civilization of the Nile Valley. Ancient Egyptian art reached a high level in painting and
sculpture, and was both extremely stylized and symbolic. Most of the Egyptian sculptures that have
been well preserved were initially made for temples and/or tombs. Egyptian sculpture and all Egyptian
art was based on the belief in a life after death. The body of the pharaoh was carefully preserved, and
certain goods were buried with him in the Pyramids of Giza to provide for his needs forever. Life size
and even much larger statues, carved in slate, alabaster, and limestone, were as regular and simple in
shape as the tombs themselves. These statues were replicas of the rulers, the nobles, and the gods
worshiped by the Egyptians, and were put in temples and burial chambers. Scenes engraved and
painted in the tombs or on temple walls literally described Egyptian life. Eleanor Barton, in The
History of Sculpture, states, The Egyptians often combined features from various creatures to
symbolize ideas. For example, the human head of the pharaoh Khafre is added to the crouching figure
of a lion to form the Great Sphinx. This composition suggests the combination of human intelligence
and animal strength. Egyptian sculptors always presented clear ideas. The pharaoh or

This paper is about the improvement of the C programming dialect, the impacts on it, and the

C initiated existence in the years 1969 1973, in parallel with the early improvement of the Unix
working framework; the most imaginative period happened amid 1972. An alternate spate of
progressions topped somewhere around 1977 and 1979, when versatility of the Unix framework was
being exhibited. Amidst this second period, the first generally accessible portrayal of the dialect
appeared: the C Programming Language, often called the `white book or `k r [kernighan 78]. At last,
in the center 1980s, the dialect was formally institutionalized by the ANSI X3j11 board of trustees,
which rolled out further improvements. Until the early 1980s, in spite of the fact that compilers
existed for an assortment of machine architectures and working frameworks, the dialect was just about

Not A Student Loan For College Essay
Abstract
The decision to attend college for most individuals yield promise of advancement in being able to
further one s learning, and assists with developing a marketable educational portfolio from an
institution of reputed academia. However, with the pursuit of obtaining a college degree from a
university, there are augmented concerns with student loans and repayment issues. In electing to

several organizations or subsidiaries, and for profit institutions cash in on unknowledgeable hopefuls
contributing to the student loan debt dilemma/crisis (or student debt). The college costs and financial
constraints for student borrowing, if ill prepared will substantially effect students in pre graduate or

repayment behavior which effects long term financial outlook. In examining the data on cumulative

illness is due to supernatural causes such as punishment from evil ancestral spirits or somebody sends
the evil spirits after them to harm them. When asked about views of health and illness, she stated that
most Dominicans interpret health as being up, active and not being in bed where one is unable to take
care of his or her self. Many Dominicans believe that if you are not in bed, therefore you are healthy.
Many Dominicans believe in folk practice to promote health, for example: a problems that are seen as
natural and spiritual are treated with prayer and ritual. Problems that are believed to be supernatural
are treated with the help of a witch, healer, or a voodoo priest. For instance, the Catholics practice
Spiritism and Santeria by praying the saints to grant them favors and heal them. Some may consult a

A Complicated Kindness Literary Analysis
Loss in Real Life vs. in A Complicated Kindness
In many fictitious stories and even in real life, people experience loss of family members, someone
they know, and are brought down from their previous state of happiness. Everyone will most likely
experience some traumatic event where a loved one is gone forever or being isolated from everyone
else. These similar occasions occurred to me in my own life and to a great deal to a character; Nomi
from the novel, A Complicated Kindness by Miriam Toews. It is then realized that the loss of family,
being excommunicated from your community and your people force you to adapt so you can maintain
the strength to keep moving on and continue with your life. One eventually comes to discover that the

to excommunicate Nomi, which in turn causes her father, Ray to leave East Village so she can finally

A Critical Analysis Of The Theory Of Endosymbiosis And It...
A critical analysis of the Theory of Endosymbiosis and it s supporting evidence
Abstract
Introduction
The endosymbiotic theory is an evolutionary theory explaining the origin of Eukaryotic cells from
Prokaryotic, and is at present; the most widely accepted evolutionary theory of the Eukaryotic cell.
The theory explains the origins of mitochondria and chloroplasts and their double membranes,
suggesting that chloroplasts and mitochondria represent formerly free living bacteria that were taken
into a cell as an endosymbiont. Molecular evidence suggests that mitochondria developed from
proteobacteria and chloroplasts from cyanobacteria. It is thought that the Prokaryotes may have
entered the host cell as a parasite or source of nutrient for the host, however avoided digestion. The
primitive chloroplast may have provided the host cell with crucial nutrients, and the primitive
mitochondrion may have aided the exploitation of oxygen for the extraction of energy. In return the
host cell offered a protected environment for the Prokaryotes to live in. This was the beginning of a
symbiotic relationship between the primitive chloroplast and mitochondria, and the Eukaryotic cell.
The theory was ridiculed for years due its controversial nature, however in 1967 Lynn Margulis, a
biologist from Boston University, developed the modern Serial Endosymbiosis Theory.
Primary Endosymbiosis vs. Secondary Endosymbiosis
Primary endosymbiosis involves the engulfment of a bacterium by another

The Causes And Effect Of Resistance On The Government...
This dissertation reviewing the results of research by academic writers on issues of resistance to
change, which occurred both in the public and private sectors. Significantly, special attention will be
given to writings that discuss the causes of the emergence of resistance to change. In this case, the
works of Anis Khassawneh, and Rosemond Boohene and Asamoah Appiah Williams will be critically
reviewed.
1. Anis Khassawneh
Khassawneh works considered relevant to the part of this study because it has been investigated and
identified the main causes of employee resistance to changes in government organisations in Jordan.
He discusssed the causes of resistance to change in developing countries. He cited the experience of

Meanwhile, Khassawneh (2015: 26 27) has conducted a research and found that there are four factors
that trigger the rejection of the employee to change in government organisations in Jordan. There are
due to the lack of participation of employees, inadequate incentives, distrust between higher
management and workers, and lack of clarity in the goals of change. He formulated these results by
selecting the top four answers of respondents.
The works of Khan (1989), Jreisat (1988), and Khassawneh (2005) carried out in different time
periods, which is about 17 years. Nevertheless, there are similarities research findings about the
reasons that led to the employee refuses to change, namely the lack of commitment of the leadership
in making changes. This work has provided insight into some of the research questions on the causes
of resistance, so it is considered relevant to this dissertation.
Moreover, the work of Khassawneh can be relied on. He is a former government employee. He also is
a lecturer in the training programs conducted by the Institute of Public Administration, so it is already
familiar with the change of administration in the public sector in Jordan. Although not mentioned how

American Companies Are Good For Business
Introduction:
As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, American companies have been expanding their
businesses overseas, seeking new markets and new investment opportunities. These companies are
seeking countries with a high GDP, strategic location, and a growing urban middle class. GDP, or
gross domestic product, is the sum of value added by resident firms, households, and governments
operating in an economy (Peng, 2016, pg. 5). Since GDP is an important measure of economic
growth, nations with high GDP are seen as desirable markets in which to expand by companies
seeking to grow their business overseas. These companies are also seeking countries with an
accessible and advantageous location, as strategic location is imperative to facilitate ease in trading.
Countries with a convenient location relative to the United States are good for business because of the
low costs of transporting goods and because proximity between trade partners has the potential to
stimulate trade. Lastly, a growing urban middle class typically equates with a growing economy.
Historically, the middle class successfully amasses the most capital, be it physical (such as property)
or human (such as education). This accumulation of resources by the middle class then increases the
country s overall GDP (Pezzini, 2012, OECD). A large urban middle class is also indicative of a
politically stable country, since the majority of people have access to the goods and services they need
and are thus less

The Fight For Gay Rights Movement
Today, the fight for homosexual right is at the forefront of society, which yields a greater thrust
towards full equality to heterosexuals with every passing day. This campaign for equality is known as
the Modern Gay Rights Movement. The modern struggle for gay rights started as early as The Civil
Rights Movement in 1954, and still continues today (Britannica). The Civil Rights Movement, from
1954 1968, sparked oppressed people to fight for their rights. In this period, shockwaves from blacks
gaining equality rippled onto the movement for homosexual rights; gays saw new opportunities to
gain a public foothold. Additionally, they sought recognition as a viable movement especially after the
passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With an arrest warrant, a police officer arrived at Hardwick s house; as he was investigating the house,
he found Hardwick engaged in oral sex with another male. The officer arrested Hardwick on the
infringement of the Georgia statute that prohibited homosexual sodomy. The law stated: Anal or oral
intercourse between human beings, or any sexual relations between a human being and an animal, the
act of which may be punishable as a criminal offense (Self). The sodomy charges were dropped when
the state prosecutor declined to prosecute the case. However, Hardwick, along with the American
Civil Liberties Union, challenged the constitutionality of the law. The appealed the district court
decision to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and succeeded in having it
overturned, on the basis that the case interfered with the 4th Amendment: the right to privacy

The Court rejected several arguments, and most importantly; the fundamental right to engage in
homosexual activity, even in the privacy of a home. This rejection by Justice White was on the basis
that illegal conduct is not always immunized whenever it occurs in the home (Oyez).

Sisyphus
Taylor finds the meaning of life in the inner compulsion to be doing just what we were put here to do,
and to go on doing it forever. The way Richard phrased his argument is perplexed and quite
ambiguous. It may well be, that Taylor was inattentive with his formulation and all he meant to say
was that a life is meaningful if the one who lives it can do what is in their nature to do, and pursue the
goals that their nature calls for. Would we then be able to conclude that it is in Sisyphus s nature to
ram rocks up hills and finds fulfillment in his eternal labor. Fulfilment, only makes our lives
meaningful if it is a fitting fulfilment. The problem is that we may not always exactly know which
activities merit our love. In the case of Sisyphus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also stated that no action or project really gives life it s absolute meaning. In both cases, the
seemingly endless nightmare of eternal and pointless activity has now been overridden with the
scorching Hell of eternal absence. According to Taylor, humanity feels the deep need to have a
destiny, to fulfill an inner compulsion to be doing just what we were put here to do. This idea is what
makes life so meaningful. The meaning is in the passion of doing of things, not necessarily in what
that doing leads to. As Taylor stated, The meaning of life is from within us, it is not bestowed from
without, and it far exceeds in both beauty and permanence any heaven of which men have ever
dreamed or yearned for (484). The point of living is simply to be living whether that s doing what one
loves to do or simply getting through every day. While agreeing with Taylor, I must add that instead of
asking whether life has been good for a certain person, we should be asking whether it has been
admirable or if it has been something to proud of. To summarize, we give meaning to our lives by the
active engagement our wills have in our

Christians of the first century in Asia Minor had knowledge in the OT, and would most likely have had

Christians in the first century struggled primarily with three things. Firstly the influences of the

and finally the disunity between some Jews and Christians.
Looking back at Isaiah 6 :1 5 and the vision of the throne room of God, the Christians of the first

the fact that the God of majesty that John describes dwarfs that of the emperor. John reveals to the first

The United States was built on an agrarian system. The ability to grow crops helped create an
economic backbone for the county. The use of fertilizer became a norm in farming and agriculture and

mind has looked at fertilizer as a weapon, particularly those containing ammonium nitrate. The
Ammonium Nitrate Security Program shows how far the United States has progressed by regressing

Following the bombing, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms began a partnership with The

The Ammonium Nitrate Security Act was developed as a means of regulating the sales of ammonium
nitrate to the public. A lack of a comprehensive and uniform method of tracking the substance among
the states reveals a flaw in the system of preventative policing. North Carolina does not have any
regulations in place for the monitoring of sales of ammonium nitrate in its fertilizer form. The fact that
the substance is considered an explosive unless it is in the form of fertilizer is an oversight by the
government.

Epicureanism is a philosophy based on the teachings of the Greek philosopher Epicuris. His views
coincide with those of Heisenberg in the way that they display the incertitude of how it is impossible
to know exactly what things will do or go. In example, he suggested that even atoms are free to move
around spontaneously, without order. Any invention or its inventor would fit nicely into this cultural
topic. Eli Whitney, for instance, and the cotton gin. This invention was one of the most important, it

Cord Stimulation Research Paper
Every says new news stories appear about America s deadly addiction to Opioids. The drugs which
may be more commonly recognized by their drug names (eg Morphine, Codeine, Fentanyl) have been
overprescribed by Doctors for years. Usually given out to patients with chronic pain, who cannot find
relief elsewhere, they were recently withdrawn causing a massive increase in the number of drug
overdoses in the United States. The issue is so large it s even drawn considerable attention from
Donald Trump. Reducing the number of prescriptions for opioids has meant patients seeking out street
dealers to fuel their addictions. Many have lost their lives. Clearly, new therapies are urgently needed
to reduce the burden of chronic pain which doctors in the UK estimate that between ⅓ and ⅔ of the
population lives with. The numbers are similar across the pond. However new therapies are emerging,

What is Cord Stimulation?
So what is cord stimulation (or spinal cord stimulation to use its full name)? Well, pain is a signal
transmitted through nerves from your body up through the spinal cord to your brain. But the spinal

those not on opioids. They state that spinal cord stimulation has the ability to reduce opioid reliance in

Questions On The Nature Of Interpretation
Hypothetical Misinterpretation
Jerrold Levinson, a prominent hypothetical intentionalist, through his explanation of the relationship
between artworks and exploratory interpretations, has gone under criticism for allowing
misinterpretations to be deemed as valid could mean options. However, one finds when reading Two
Notions of Interpretation and Intention and Interpretation in Literature that these criticisms are
effectively countered by two arguments that Levinson presents. Firstly, although the exploratory mode
of inquiry can have multiple, if not infinite, could mean answers, it also has could not mean answers.
These could not mean interpretations provide insight into the work and allow for interpretations to be
judged on a scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because they are ludic and not grounded in physical realities one can come up with multiple correct
interpretations that are sound but mutually exclusive.
To construe what something could mean, Levinson proposes that we, as interpreters, be pragmatic and
use logic in combination with our given knowledge of the contexts of works to determine their
interpretations. Although there exists an impulse to either exclusively use does mean or could mean
modes of inquiry, like an x ray for the former and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually
have mutual implications. To examine an x ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean
and then come to an apt conclusion. To examine a metaphor is to find what is a plausible response in a
determinative context of semantic possibilities. There also exist instances of purely could mean
inquiries, says Levinson, like the infinite volumes of Babel, but without a does mean interpretation
available, as there are no intentions behind the works, the infinite possible could mean interpretations
create an absence of meaning. It is here I would like to extend the definition of does mean
interpretation beyond scientific knowledge based answers, to include hypothetical DM interpretations.

The Murder In The Rue Morgue By Edgar Allan Poe
The mind is a powerful tool that can either empower or enslave, depending on how wisely one uses it.
Edgar Allan Poe, an American author, is a Dark Romantic and Gothic writer. He is also a famed poet,
and critic, who struggled with alcoholism, poor health, and the loss of his loved ones. He lived a life
of poverty, and did not live long enough to see his work become successful. He is famously known as
the father of the detective stories. Poe s intellect is reflected in three of his short stories such as; The
Pit and the Pendulum, The Murder in the Rue Morgue, and The Purloined Letter. Contrary to most
Dark Romantic works, logic and reason trump emotion in Poe s works. Poe teaches that humanity can
overcome emotion in extreme circumstances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dupin, the private detective in The Purloined Letter, thinks analytically and ingeniously to solve a
simple case that has the other characters puzzled. Dupin is tasked with finding the Purloined Letter for
Prefect G. The letter has been stolen from a young lady by Minister D from the Royal apartments with
the intent of blackmail. The police have searched Minister D s residence multiple times without
finding the letter. When Prefect G puts a bounty of 50,000 francs on the letter, Dupin turns over the
letter and collects his money. He explains that Minister D is a smart man and hid the letter in plain
sight, disguised as another letter. A seemingly simple discovery, however proven to be much more
difficult. Why, yes; and not exactly that either. The fact is, we have all been a good deal puzzled
because the affair is so simple, and yet baffles us altogether (Poe 249). Poe s use of mind games in
The Purloined Letter reveal how the mind is a tool meant to construe solutions to difficult problems.
Hiding the letter is carefully planned out and requires a high level of competence to understand
exactly where the police would not look. Likewise, it requires a high level of competence to find the
letter and solve the mystery. Dupin is able to do this through mental focus and apathy, while also
thinking the similarly to Minister D. Using intelligence to solve difficult tasks

Living In America Essay
What it means to live in America is having freedom and plenty of opportunities. America is a land that
usually has open arms to anyone and everyone who needs a change. Living in America opens the
doors for all people men and women. America is one of the most if not the best country to be
discovered because we learn and build from our mistakes. Living in America is a blessing and a
grateful chance to do what I choose to do in life. Living in America is different than living in other
countries in so many ways. Some countries don t have a president nor do they have a stable system of
government. The best difference from America and other countries is all of the different types of food
people eat. Also in other countries what we Americans refer to as soccer is call futbol. The most
obvious difference is the way Americans drive because we have speed limits and cars but in some
countries people go superfast and in other countries people travel by camels and horses. Major events
that occurred during my life time was 911 when two planes brought down the twin towers. In japan
they had a huge tsunami that destroyed a lot of Japans landscape. In Charlottesville there was a mass
shooting inside a church by a white man who killed innocent black lives. Hurricane Katrina was also
another big hurricane that it completely destroyed New Orleans and Louisiana s landscape. Hurricane
Harvey happened in Texas and put a lot of families out of their homes due to floods. The most recent

Ernest Hemingways Cons
Ernest Hemingway, an American novelist, once said, The best way to find out if you can trust
somebody is to trust them. Possessing this quality could be a valuable trait but also could be a fatal
flaw. Con artists use trust to deceive you or defraud you. Con artists are usually skilled liars so they
can swindle you. Conning schemes can be a variety of different occupations that we would not expect
from the common category we often insert con artists in. Society usually categorizes con artists a few
different ways including, the amiable slickster, the anonymous con, and then the more difficult to
categorize cons. The amiable slickster stereotype would include the street side, panhandler playing
card games, luring you to play the seemingly, easy game. An anonymous con would be a person or
people who run email scams and phishing scams. Through these scams the unknown operator can take
your personal information. Lastly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Psychiatrists, businessmen, lawyers, and marketers sometimes have the same traits as Machiavellians
and narcissists. To test that statement Shelby Hunt and Lawrence Chonko gave a group of professional
marketers the Machiavellian scale to see how many of the same traits they shared with con artists.
Results of the scale, showed that over ten percent scored in the highest possible range. Then, Richard
Christie and Florence Geis, Machiavellian researchers, concluded that the highest Machiavellian scale
scorers were psychiatrists. Psychiatry s central point of control is manipulation and mental control
meaning that is probably why they were the highest scorers. So, all con artists do not have to be
criminals to be con artists. Nowadays, there is an abundant amount of scams so anyone can be caught
up in fraud by con artists. Common scams that are in our lives include, online dating site deceptions,
debt collection scams, fake rental ads, and non existent

a bigger impact in the 1920s it became an American pastime, it majorly helped the rapid growth
women getting out of their normal work roles, bringing music sports and politics into the home lives
of many Americans, and the brining of many new radio stations. The radio helped shape the 1920 in a
way nothing else at the time could by bringing the life of America into the homes and lives of every

The government of the federal radio commission was also given the power to grant or deny license if
the radio station got to go on the air or if they were using profane language. Even though the FRC was
given the power to decide if the radio station was using the appropriate language, they did not have the
same power over the advertisements that many radio stations such as NBC and CBS sold air time to
famous movie stars, musicians , singers and comedians to advertise products that would appear later
on their shows. In the 1920s women played a big role in the start up of the radio. According to LInda
Alchin the author of remembering the ladys, Even though they were doing the same role as their male
counterparts parts and sometimes more they were given the same challenges that they faced today.
Back in the 1920s there was no laws about giving they equal pay, or some station wouldn t hire a
women just because she was a woman. Even though women were getting lots of social change in the
1920s people s attitudes would not change, they were stuck in their ways that women should take
more traditional roles and most did not want to see them taking a job that a man can be doing. What
men did think women were able to do at a radio station was being a secretary,

Similarities Between Beowulf And The Dream Of The Rood
Through the written works Beowulf, The History of the Kings of Britain, as well as the Dream of the
Rood, we can see that savage behavior like unnecessary killing and pillaging and raiding the lands of
other has been apart of warrior culture consistently through time. What changes over time is the
spiritual justification of such barbaric acts.
Dream of the Rood is a poem written in Old English that follows a theme, yes there s suffering bad
things do happen, but there s God and one day he might save you. The poem tells the story of the tree
that becomes the cross Jesus is hung on. The need to kill exists even in the presence of god except
now it is called a sacrifice. For the Rood, however, glory has replaced torment and at the end the
dreamer s description of Christ s triumphant entry into heaven with the souls He has liberated from
hell reflects the dreamer s response to the hope that has been brought to him. The tree finds honor in
being the one chosen to participate in the death of Christ because it is God s will. ... Show more

Behold, the lord of glory honored me over all the trees of the wood, the ruler of heaven just as also he
honored his mother Mary Almighty God for all man s sake, over all woman s kind. The story
concludes with a beacon of hope, God will return to earth one day and judge everyone for their sins
and their good deeds. He will come again hither on this earth to seek mankind on Doomsday the lord
himself, Almighty God and his angels with him for then he will judge he who has power to judge,
each one just as in this brief life he has deserved. In these stories God evolves, to alleviate any moral
obligation to modified behavior ands offer heaven, something to believe in. The role of story alters to
be a cautionary tale that reads walk on the side of God or be doomed to eternal

  • 2. The Chinese Culture And Chinese Values Conflicts and tensions between Britain and China broke out during the Qing dynasty due to Britain s ignorance towards Chinese culture and discrepancies between Chinese and Western values. Reflected in Lord Macartney s account of his first meeting with Emperor Qianlong in 1792, the source highlights Britain s belief of how they had taken the right steps to impress the Emperor to begin establishing stronger trade relations with China. However, Britain were ignorant of the negative attitudes towards traders in the Chinese culture and China s inferior view of non Chinese nations. However, when addressing the emperor, he bowed on one knee instead of following the Chinese custom of kowtow . The kowtow is the important action of bowing before the emperor and touching the head to the ground which represented China s sense of moral, spiritual, and intellectual superiority . Therefore, Britain s ignorance of basic Chinese cultural values such as the kowtow suggests Britain s ignorance of more significant values of Qing China related to Chinese attitudes in trade. In Confucianism and the Chinese culture, merchants and traders in the Chinese culture were looked down upon as they profited from exploiting other people s creations. This negative stigma surrounding traders clashed with Britain s aims of increasing their exports to China as the Chinese would be indifferent towards increasing their imports. However, the desperate need to obtain trade equality with China caused ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tariffs CHALLENGES BARRIERS RELATING TO CUSTOMS Many companies, particularly those in the retail sector, have suggested that tariffs present the greatest barrier to cross border e commerce. This problem does not exist within the EU, which is a free trade area; however, when exporting to countries outside of the EU tariffs are, indeed, a major problem. One business suggested that outside of the EU, tariffs are always the most problematic . Tariffs raise the price of the products sold by e traders and consequently reduce their competitiveness. I believe that because he is labeled as very conservative and religious, the very slightest stray away from these values results in public uproar. Simcha Kravitz, Duddy s grandfather, would tell Duddy as a child that a man without land is nobody. These words encouraged him to live his life in a manner in which he would do anything he could in order to obtain the land that a nobody would not possess. But Duddy does not solely focus his desires on land; instead, his goals are set on wealth in general. In order to acquire wealth, Duddy engages in acts of dishonesty and deceit. He does this by exploiting the weaknesses of his friends, such as Virgil Roseboro and Yvette Durelle, while completely disregarding the fact that by doing this, his dignity and ... Although this money help s Duddy purchase the remainder of his land, in the process he becomes a despised and wretched tyrant. Not only does this result in the annihilation of Duddy s friendship with Virgil, but also results in the loss of Yvette s respect for Duddy. It becomes quite obvious that Duddy did not value his friendships as much as he did his wealth, as if he did, he would ve earned money the proper way, as a waiter, and wouldn t have resorted to such ruthless acts in order to attain complacency. It s quite disappointing to learn how he would sacrifice the only loving relationship he ever had (with Yvette) just so he can obtain land. Normally, a person who lived a life devoid of love would be desperate to acquire it. However, Duddy still decided to pursue his dreams of owning land on the contrary to pursuing a loving relationship that his life was in need of. Come to think of it, Duddy s life has been morally derailed ever since he was a child. As a child, he took advantage of the fact that as a minor, he was not susceptible to lawsuits. He broke the law frequently in attempt to obtain more wealth. Such examples of this would include his fraudulent behaviour with stamp companies, his selling of stolen hockey sticks, and his distribution of pornographic comic books. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In media, queer men and women are almost always portrayed in stereotypical roles, and bisexuality is almost always expressed as a phase or not real. These ideas affect how others view queer identities and how queer people view their own identity, and the social norms around them. Men are commonly described as feminine whilst women are portrayed as masculine (Tara Sarper, 2013). How did these widespread ideas come to exist and how do they continue to affect members of the community? These stereotypes can be harmful as they build a picture of what it means to be a certain sexuality, as well as the heteronormativity behind the stereotype. We often see queer people in relationships being asked who s the dominant one, the man in the relationship, the top, etc. These ideas come from a heteronormative society that puts harmful misogynistic norms even in relationships where women might not be present. Where does the overwhelming pressure for there to be a man or top in the relationship come from, and why are those two associated with each other? Since same sex relationships go against the norm in society, society still puts pressure on heternormative ideas to be present in them. Newsreels During The Second World War Newsreels, five minute recordings depicting around four stories kept on a reel, were widely produced across Western countries between approximately 1910 and 1967 (Boyer, 2015). In this time, news corporations were founded and developed, and while this brought new possibilities to broadcasting and documenting information, there were multiple limitations including cumbersome equipment and censorship (Aspects of Britain; Broadcasting, 1993). This time also saw several important historic events, such as the Great War later known as World War One 1914 to 1918, the Spanish Civil War 1936 to 1939, and World War Two 1939 to 1945 (McKernan, 2000) The first British newsreel was issued in June 1910; the weekly Pathe s Animated Gazette. This suggests that newsreels before the beginning of the Second World War are useless as sources for history, as their information gathering was mediocre and unreliable. In the 1960 s, audio visual technology was becoming easier to manoeuvre and access. The Vietnam War, dubbed The Living Room War , was the first war to be recorded and broadcast directly into people s homes (Hallin, unknown), with televisions having been on the rise since the 1950 s (Television in the 1950 s, unknown). It is this rise of television that cause the newsreel to become obsolete in 1967 (Schoenherr, 2008). It appears from this analysis and these sources that newsreels are not a strong, reliable source for history, due to a lack of policies, faked footage, cumbersome technology and other difficulties. However, this is not to say that newsreels don t reflect values and trends of the time, or that newsreels are completely useless. Without newsreels and their potentially unethical practices, broadcasting news corporations such as the BBC would not have developed into the large, global organisations that they are today. • 16. Ancient Egyptian Art And Contribution To Late Mesolithic Art There are many different art styles around the world that developed in various ways. Ancient Egyptian art is around 5 thousand years old, and it is a major contributor to late Mesolithic Art. It arose and took shape in the civilization of the Nile Valley. Ancient Egyptian art reached a high level in painting and sculpture, and was both extremely stylized and symbolic. Most of the Egyptian sculptures that have been well preserved were initially made for temples and/or tombs. Egyptian sculpture and all Egyptian art was based on the belief in a life after death. The body of the pharaoh was carefully preserved, and certain goods were buried with him in the Pyramids of Giza to provide for his needs forever. Life size and even much larger statues, carved in slate, alabaster, and limestone, were as regular and simple in shape as the tombs themselves. These statues were replicas of the rulers, the nobles, and the gods worshiped by the Egyptians, and were put in temples and burial chambers. Scenes engraved and painted in the tombs or on temple walls literally described Egyptian life. Eleanor Barton, in The History of Sculpture, states, The Egyptians often combined features from various creatures to symbolize ideas. • 23. A Critical Analysis Of The Theory Of Endosymbiosis And It... A critical analysis of the Theory of Endosymbiosis and it s supporting evidence Abstract Introduction The endosymbiotic theory is an evolutionary theory explaining the origin of Eukaryotic cells from Prokaryotic, and is at present; the most widely accepted evolutionary theory of the Eukaryotic cell. The theory explains the origins of mitochondria and chloroplasts and their double membranes, suggesting that chloroplasts and mitochondria represent formerly free living bacteria that were taken into a cell as an endosymbiont. Molecular evidence suggests that mitochondria developed from proteobacteria and chloroplasts from cyanobacteria. It is thought that the Prokaryotes may have entered the host cell as a parasite or source of nutrient for the host, however avoided digestion. The primitive chloroplast may have provided the host cell with crucial nutrients, and the primitive mitochondrion may have aided the exploitation of oxygen for the extraction of energy. In return the host cell offered a protected environment for the Prokaryotes to live in. This was the beginning of a symbiotic relationship between the primitive chloroplast and mitochondria, and the Eukaryotic cell. The theory was ridiculed for years due its controversial nature, however in 1967 Lynn Margulis, a biologist from Boston University, developed the modern Serial Endosymbiosis Theory. • 25. American Companies Are Good For Business Introduction: As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, American companies have been expanding their businesses overseas, seeking new markets and new investment opportunities. These companies are seeking countries with a high GDP, strategic location, and a growing urban middle class. GDP, or gross domestic product, is the sum of value added by resident firms, households, and governments operating in an economy (Peng, 2016, pg. 5). Since GDP is an important measure of economic growth, nations with high GDP are seen as desirable markets in which to expand by companies seeking to grow their business overseas. These companies are also seeking countries with an accessible and advantageous location, as strategic location is imperative to facilitate ease in trading. Countries with a convenient location relative to the United States are good for business because of the low costs of transporting goods and because proximity between trade partners has the potential to stimulate trade. Lastly, a growing urban middle class typically equates with a growing economy. Historically, the middle class successfully amasses the most capital, be it physical (such as property) or human (such as education). This accumulation of resources by the middle class then increases the country s overall GDP (Pezzini, 2012, OECD). A large urban middle class is also indicative of a politically stable country, since the majority of people have access to the goods and services they need and are thus less ... The way Richard phrased his argument is perplexed and quite ambiguous. It may well be, that Taylor was inattentive with his formulation and all he meant to say was that a life is meaningful if the one who lives it can do what is in their nature to do, and pursue the goals that their nature calls for. Would we then be able to conclude that it is in Sisyphus s nature to ram rocks up hills and finds fulfillment in his eternal labor. The meaning is in the passion of doing of things, not necessarily in what that doing leads to. As Taylor stated, The meaning of life is from within us, it is not bestowed from without, and it far exceeds in both beauty and permanence any heaven of which men have ever dreamed or yearned for (484). The point of living is simply to be living whether that s doing what one loves to do or simply getting through every day. Although there exists an impulse to either exclusively use does mean or could mean modes of inquiry, like an x ray for the former and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually have mutual implications. To examine an x ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean and then come to an apt conclusion. Edgar Allan Poe, an American author, is a Dark Romantic and Gothic writer. He is also a famed poet, and critic, who struggled with alcoholism, poor health, and the loss of his loved ones. He lived a life of poverty, and did not live long enough to see his work become successful. He is famously known as the father of the detective stories. Poe s intellect is reflected in three of his short stories such as; The Pit and the Pendulum, The Murder in the Rue Morgue, and The Purloined Letter. The police have searched Minister D s residence multiple times without finding the letter. He explains that Minister D is a smart man and hid the letter in plain sight, disguised as another letter. A seemingly simple discovery, however proven to be much more difficult. Why, yes; and not exactly that either. The fact is, we have all been a good deal puzzled because the affair is so simple, and yet baffles us altogether (Poe 249). Hiding the letter is carefully planned out and requires a high level of competence to understand exactly where the police would not look. Likewise, it requires a high level of competence to find the letter and solve the mystery. Dupin is able to do this through mental focus and apathy, while also thinking the similarly to Minister D.
