Dna Evidence Essay
Allowing the annual report of the National DNA Database Strategy Board as of 2012 2013,
NDNAD helps the law enforcement in giving worthful information that will lead in determining
the suspect and solve crime cases. However, sometimes the crime doesn t solve and more evidence
needs to be collecting to secure a conviction but in dealing with NDNAD it provides the policeof its

Safety In The Giver
Measures are always being taken to ensure the safety of the people which makes the society in
which Jonas lives very safe. These measures are what makes the community a safe place to live
in. In the Giver written by Lois Lowry the society that is being shown is taking safety to another
level. The leaders of this society are doing everything they can to protect the citizens. When a jet
flew over the town the leaders did not hesitate to bring everyone to shelter. All of the citizens
were ordered to go to the nearest building and stay there (Lowry 2). This is just a jet and if we saw
one in the society we live in, nothing would be done to protect the citizens because it is not a big
deal. So we can already state this place is ten times safer

The Importance Of The Great Sphinx
The Great Sphinx was a very large structure built in ancient Egypt. It was very important to the
Egyptians and it did many things for them. It is also the one of largest, ancient freestanding
structures that is still standing today, meaning that there are no supports holding it up. The Sphinx
has been a symbol of Egyptfor many years.
King Khafre, one of Egypt s many pharaohs, commissioned the Sphinx. It was estimated to be
built around 2500 BC. Khafre reigned from 2520 BC to 2494 BC, so people presume that the
Sphinx was built in the Old Kingdom, which is the first of the three kingdoms and lasted from
2575 2465. Khafre was a man that had a lot of architectural talent because he built a structure that
lasted for about 3500 years. The Sphinx was 66 feet tall, 241 feet long, and 63 feet wide. It sits
in a reclining position, with its paws facing forward, toward east, pointing to the dawn of the star
Regulus in the summer solstice. Regulus is the brightest star in the constellation of Leo, and was
aligned with the Sphinx at about 2300 BC during the summer solstice. The Sphinx is believed to
represent the pharaoh, Khafre. It guards the gates of Giza, where the pyramid of Khafre stands.
The Sphinx was not built brick by brick, like the Great Pyramid of Egypt, but it was carved from a
huge mass of limestone from the Giza Plateau.
The Sphinx was built with three tunnels leading to somewhere, but the erosion has blocked them
off, which doesn t allow historians to figure our where they led. It was also built with a tomb for
Khafre the man who commissioned the Sphinx. The erosion made the Sphinx slowly crumble,
which led to parts of the face falling off. Because of the changing of the desert terrain, the sand had
buried the Sphinx completely. People started to dig it up again in 1817, and they soon uncovered
the chest and then the feet. Lastly, they restored the head and completely revealed the whole
Sphinx in 1905. (Guardians.net)
The Sphinx was interpreted as a sun god, specifically Horus of the Horizon. The Sphinx had a
body the shape of a lion, and a head the shape of a pharaoh. It has become a symbol of wisdom
and strength. In the book, Temples, Tombs, and Hieroglyphs, written by Barbara Mertz, it says, It

Glaciers Are Formed By Ice Erosion
Glaciers are essentially frozen rivers. They are common in the Northern Hemisphere as well as at
high altitude.
Glaciers don t erode quickly, but over a long period of time they can cause drastic changes.
Did you know that Glacial lakes are formed by ice erosion?
The glacier carves out a ditch in the earth and the glacial water melts and is left behind, and when
the glacier is moving, it collects rocks with it.
A Glacier s weight, combined with its gradual movement means that the glaciers can change the
land and make unique land forms. The three processes by which glaciation effects and changes
landscape is erosion, transportation and deposition. Did you know that when water freezes,it gets
bigger and expands, then it will break the rock. This type of erosion is called the freeze thaw....

There are two important processes of glacial erosion. The first process is called plucking,
Plucking occurs when cracked and broken rocks are frozen and stuck into glaciers. As a glacier
moves over the landscape, water melts under the glacier and gets into cracks within the
underlying bedrock. The water freezes and melts, weakening the bonds holding pieces of bedrock
in place. These pieces of rock can now be plucked from their rocky base and carried along with the
moving glacier.
Glaciers have carved out a number of important geographic

What is guilt? Guilt is defined as the fact or state of having done wrong or committed and
offense. (Definition, 5) In Fifth business Guilt is considered to be a theme placed within the
pages of the Novel, Fifth Business. It is shown through main events taking place, as well as
being shown through the main characters of the story. For many guilt can be a powerful

The Health Center Is The Only Health Resource
The Student Health Center is the only health resource that is on campus for students to access.
The staff at the health center consists of physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals
that are available to help during open hours. For enrolled students, a visit to the health center is
free of charge with the exception of certain labs and x rays that ranges in costs. You can either
walk in Monday through Thursdays between 8am 6pm and on Fridays from 8am 4pm. You can
also schedule a same day appointment if you feel more comfortable with that. The health center
offers a lot of services within the center including men s services, women s services,
immunizations, laboratory, and many more, however, some of these services have underlying
issues. The issues that I found within the Health Center are all centered around costs and fees, such
as the women and men services and having an unfair costs between those services that are given.
The Health Center also has more expensive prices for the services that they administer compared to
other college campuses and they charge unnecessary costs to some of the laboratory tests. Lastly,
students get charged the health fee for both semesters when they are not even using the resource,
making it something that is benefitting everyone else but themselves. Mens/ Women s Service s

At first we couldn t rejected the null hypothesis because result from table 1 shows that only two
variables were stationary at level while four variables became stationary at first difference and the
result gives us the strong proof of unit root in the variables. Therefore all variables were tested at
first difference and the ADF test make known that all the variables became stationary at first
difference, therefore, the null hypothesis at first difference of unit root were rejected so we
concluded by saying that the variables became stationary after first difference. Which means that
the variables are co integrated of order one I(1), and this give us the chance to performed co

Safe Use of Long Acting Beta Agonist in Asthma Patients
Executive summary
There have been concerns among the safety of long acting Beta agonist referred to as LABA
therapy. This is after the long acting inhaled beta has been used in the treating of asthma since the
year 1990. In order to get information about the effect of long acting beta agonists, information was
extracted from authoritative journals that were written after the FDA s recommendation. These
journals were written in order to address the concerns that came after Asthma patients who had used
long term beta agonists when it came to the treatment of asthma (LoМ€tvall, 2012: 32). This paper
will argue about the safe use of long acting beta agonist in asthma patients and the recommendations
of its use.
Research methodology
The material for this research was gotten from various journals such as US National library of
medicine as well as other databases such as Medical research journal. The information from these
journals is credible as the journals are peer reviewed and scholarly. Since the introduction of the
extensive acting beta agonists, there has been an improvement for many people that live with
asthma (LoМ€tvall, 2012 39). The benefit to these people has been dramatic and consequently there
have been fewer asthma symptoms when it comes to rest with exercises, there are fewer night time
awakenings and less asthma burn ups. Source of concern
The source of concern when it comes to long acting beta agonists is the fact that it sometimes
causes severe asthma

The And Sustainability Of The Pioneer River Catchment
1.0 Introduction
Catchments are depended on by the average household person, but even more valuable to the
farmers that are supplying the food to our nation. Therefore, action must be taken to ensure that the
catchments in our areas are healthy and will be able to be depended on for years to come. The
panel at Healthy Water Ways program has developed a study to guarantee the management and
sustainability of The Pioneer River catchment, by sending a team out to analyze the health of the
water ways and decide on a proposal that best suits the area to ensure future healthiness of the basin.
1.1 Background
The Pioneer River is a 120km river which is located in Northern Queensland, Australia and flows
through the city of Mackay. This river ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using the two proposals given; More signage around the catchment area detailing how important
the health of the river is and the cause of negative impact will incur a $1000 fine or the
employment of an officer to patrol the wetlands and clean up littler, rubbish control weeds and
report back on the health of the creeks. One will be chosen that best suits this catchment and an
outline of details will be provided.
1.3 Methodology
This report is based upon the collected data from scientific tests and different data collection
experiments, these diverse range of observations helped in determining the health of the river
and catchment as a whole. The experiments tested a range of variables, some including; the
levels of nitrates, phosphates, temperature of water, pH levels, turbidity of water and dissolved
solids. The collection of water and recordings of microorganisms was examined and also
recorded. As well as these scientific tests, simple recordings were also taken of the surrounding
area and the amounts of rubbish and infrastructure that could be seen. The tests conducted in the
river system occurred on the 24th of May 2016, to conduct the tests the trail along the river was
walked, furthering the knowledge of the health of the river and how the the catchment area as a
whole was fairing. However, some differences to the data could be assumed as when tested it was
not always done by the same person, this could have then limited the accuracy. Another

One can only imagine what a banned book consist of, is it drugs, sex, racial issues, or
witchcraft? The answer is it could be all of the above. Chances are, you have once read and
maybe even declared a banned book your favorite book. Books like the Harry Potter series, Go
Ask Alice, or The Hunger Games series are all on the banned book list. These books are often
removed from schools or public library shelves. For many years, American schools have been
pressured to restrict or deny students access to books or periodicals deemed objectionable by
some individual or group on moral, political, religious, ethnic, racial, or philosophical grounds.
(The Students 1) The pressure of removing said controversial books comes from concerned parents
or administrators that feel the book s content is too overwhelming for their children or students.
According to Butler University, over 2500 of the 3500 challenged books came from concerned
parents between 2000 and 2009 (LibGuides 3) Banning these books places an authoritarian outlook
on our school systems and freedom to read in America. An authoritarian government places
restrictions on citizen s freedoms in return for power over their country. By restricting children s
right to read, one is also restricting their First Amendment rights. The First Amendment states that
Congress shall not restrict one s freedom of speech and press. The author of the publication and the

The Luxury Of Giving In The Gift Of The Magi
One must be poor to know the luxury of giving. This inspiring quote by George Elliot establishes
the fact that in giving openhandedly, there is a great deal of pleasure when a person is poor. This
idea relates to The Gift of the Magi, a short story written by O. Henry. Here, a young couple Jim
and Della Dillingham, sacrifice whatever it takes in order to give each other the best Christmas
present which they both deserve. However, they each cannot not afford enough money to give a
heartfelt gift which represents their committed love for one another. As a result, they give up their
most valued possession to help pay for their Christmas presents. In O. Henry s story, The Gift of the
Magi, the author uses characterization to help reinforce... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he works hard, he still cannot help to pay the rent. Therefore, he does not have
enough money to purchase Della a delightful gift. Eventually, the author reveals that Jim has
made the choice to give up one of his most valuable item. What he does, is that he ends up selling
his gold watch that was passed down to him from generations. This way he can receive money to
purchase Della a heart touching gift. In this situation, Jim speaks, Dell, ...let s put our Christmas
presents away and keep em a while. They re too nice to use just as a present. I sold the watch to
get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops on (Henry 3). This
statement demonstrates that Jim has made a similar sacrifice as Della. Similarly, he gave away
something so precious and memorable. This supports the theme because he sacrificed his
watch, which was a family heirloom. It was very generous of him of selling it to buy something
more generic for Della. Him sacrificing his watch represents true love. Some people may say that
it was pointless for them to give up their valuable possessions because they didn t end up being
used at all. However, though it s true that they didn t end up using their presents, it demonstrates
how Della and Jim are brave. This portrays true love and that they are willing to give up or
sacrifice things for each other no matter

Her father s lack of attention has also likely influences Vada s misconceptions about death; his
response to Vada s question about whether a particularly small casket is for a child is no , that it is
simply for short people. Furthermore, when
Vada feigns dying one night at dinner, her father s reaction is to ignore her rather than talk to her
about what the real issue is. Behavior such as this might be viewed as both a lack of
understanding about death as well as an attempt to get attention that is so obviously absent. Vada s
father s lack of attention to his daughter s needs is similarly illustrated in the fact that when Vada
starts her period, she believes she is haemorrhaging; he has not adequately educated her on the
normal bodily changes that are unrelated to death, nor on the subject of death itself. A related
important event in this movie is the quick engagement of Vada s father. Vada reacts to this news
negatively, recruiting Thomas Jay to run away with her, and eventually returning to find that no one
has even noticed her absence which only frustrates her further. Vada, who has never seen her father
as a particularly happy person, suddenly sees a change in his demeanor when he meets and starts
dating Shelly; for Vada, this translates to her inability to make her father happy, that she is
unneeded, and that she was not

The Cross and the Swtichblade
In my opinion, I think I can partly identify with David Wilkerson because of the way he treated
people. I m a girl of my words, what ever I say, I will do. David Wilkerson said he wanted to help
Nicky, and that is what he did. I m not a 100% peace maker, but I know when to be mature and
bring peace and I know when to be loud and noisy. There is a time, in a place.
Also, the fact that David wanted to make someone s life better and make them realize that god/love/
energy is the power of all humanity. I try to do that. I try my hardest, to make everyone feel special
and love themselves.
I have many perspectives of the movie. Though, the feeling that often returns is fear. I loved the
movie because it is was very inspirational, but I felt fear because this was what our world was a
long time ago and it still is now. I felt that the movie was describing reality.
I said the movie was inspirational because if someone tries hard enough, they can change you in
a negative and positive way, but if you try twice as hard, you can change yourself in which ever
way you desire. The movie itself might have changed people lives, you saw the point of views
from both sides. Negative and positive. Now its your turn to determine that path you wish to seek.
David Wilkerson had done a lot of great things. I know a lot of people that are based off David
Wilkerson. What I mean by based off, I m implying that some folks act like David Wilkerson,
think like David Wilkerson and believe in what

The Myth Of The Ant Queen By Steven Johnson
Martha Stout, within When I Woke Up Tuesday, it was Friday , elaborates on the idea of
dissociation and its implications on levels of consciousness. Meanwhile, in The Myth of the Ant
Queen , Steven Johnson explains the concept of self organizing systems which describes how
systems form to have patterns of order. These self organized systems are formed unconsciously
and are able to be seen within everyday life. Dissociation and its effects are both conscious and
unconscious. Both dissociating brains and self organizing systems have specific patterns when in
specific circumstances, implying brains are self organizing as well as giving increased insight into
the psychologyand workings of the human brain. Dissociation can be used as... Show more content

in response to trauma, the artificial intelligence rewires itself in response to the stimulus of being
incorrect, creating a self organizing system by following set rules of reaction. In the brain, what
was initially a stimulus that caused no distress is now a cause for a psychological disturbance. By
rewiring itself, a dissociative brain acts much like an AI, creating a self organizing system similar
to a self learning AI, and patterns that are found in both systems.
Patterns are also a key point in self organizing systems and are found in both the development of
artificial intelligence and the traumatized brain through classical conditioning. Classical
conditioning is a learning process in which two stimuli become associated with each other, causing
a neutral stimulus, which is a stimulus normally not perceived as noteworthy, to be conditioned to
cause an involuntary response. In order for the learning system of the AI to form, a pattern must
first be set for the program to follow and build off of. Once the pattern has been

The Pros And Cons Of Cartels
introduction
In the year 2010 the European union fined 17 bathroom manufacturers from different European
countries for having made price agreements to keep the price of their products unnaturally high.
The cartel covered six countries and lasted for 12 years. The cartel was went public when Masco,
one of the 17 firms, was given full immunity in return for providing information to the European
commission(EC). The firms were fined 622 million euro s, which led to multiple firms getting into
financial trouble. In this paper I am going to explain how the bathroom manufacturers cartel
worked and on top of that give a conclusion on if the fines were justified. I am going to do this by
explaining what a cartel is and how it works, then I am going to provide information about the
bathroom manufacturers cartel case. I do this by explaining how they made price agreements. At
last I am going to provide a conclusion whether the firms got punished in the right way. And if the

Cartels are illegal but not uncommon this is because a cartel can give producers a greater profit
with less production.
What is a cartel
A cartel is a secret agreement between multiple firms to keep prices at a higher level than the
original market equilibrium. They kind of fix the selling price by doing so. Also a cartel makes
sure new competitors can t enter the market, because when a new competitor would enter, the
firms which have the cartel will all lower their prices to a level that is lower than the price of the
new competitor, as a consequence the new competitor will eventually go bankrupt.
The most common industry for cartels is an oligopolistic industry, in this industry there is a small
number of producers and a large number of costumers. Also the products in this market are usually
commodities, this are products to satisfy a consumer s needs.
How does a cartel

Elizabeth Acevedo Book Report
At the beginning of the year, I did not like to read whatsoever. My view on reading was tough and I
did not even want to try to read a book. Reading has just never been my thing, it is hard and it s
hard for me to remember what I read. When It was my first day of junior year and I walked into
English I was overwhelmed with all of the books that were in the room. I was not happy because
I figured we would read a lot and the teacher would get to choose the book but once I figured out
that you could choose your own book it made me feel more comfortable towards my reading.
This school year one of the books I decided to read was The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo. This is a
newer book and was released on March 6th, 2018. This book sucked me in as soon as I saw the
cover of the book, Acevedo s book was the type of book where I ll just read 40 50 pages but then

who is heterosexual is not going to turn gay from reading a book that features a child being

Business Skills For A New Home
The job requirements are straight forward and do not ask for much. Some of the duties consists of
promoting property through ads, open houses and listing services. Advertising is key to attract
potential buyers and spread your business name around. Advising clients on prices of homes,
current market conditions and other market information also come into play. Taking prospective
buyers to view properties and persuading them to consider investing in a new home. As well as
bringing together negotiations between the buyerand seller. These are just a few things that the real
estate business will ask for.
I believe I have all the personal characteristics and skills needed to be a sales agent or broker. I plan
to go to college to learn all the necessary business skills to be successful. Most sales agents and
brokers are self employed. This means they have to maintain a functional business without
wasting money and losing valuable time. Great business skills come in handy when you run
everything on your own. Problems will pop up eventually which will require quick thinking and
reaction time. Problem solving skills aren t going to be frequently used but nevertheless, you
can never over prepare for the worst. Organizations skills can help have your work space clean
and keep you on track during the day. Always being able to have yourself on the ball can lead to
more jobs or goals being completed. Lastly, the income you make depends on your sales which

Types of Shock Essay
Describe the five different types of shock and include for each, its pathophysiology, clinical
manifestations and treatment.
Shock is described as life threatening medical emergency resulting from insufficient blood flow
through the body (Huether Mccance, 2012) There are five types of medical shock. These include
septic shock, anaphylactic shock, cardiogenic shock, hypovolemic shock, and neurogenic shock
(Huether Mccance, 2012). Septic shock results from bacteria that multiply in the blood and then
releases toxins that decrease blood pressure, thus, impairing blood flow to cells, tissues and organs.

Anaphylactic shock is also an emergency condition. Treatment can include intubation to open the
airway and assist in breathing, epinephrine shot, CPR, and antihistamine (Dugdale, 2012).
Cardiogenic shock is results from damage to the heart such as a heart attack. In cardiogenic shock
the heart is damaged and unable to supply a sufficient amount of blood to the body and the body
cells do not receive enough oxygen (Huether Mccance, 2012). Symptoms of cardiogenic shock are
chest pain or pressure, coma, decreased urination, fast breathing, fast pulse, heavy sweating and
moist skin, lightheadedness, loss of alertness and ability to concentrate, restlessness, agitation,
confusion, shortness of break, skin that feels cool to touch, pale skin color or blotchy skin, and/or
weak pulse (Dugdale, Cardiogenic Shock, 2012). Treatment of cardiogenic shock includes
medications to increase blood pressure sucj as dobutamine, dopamine, milirione, and more. Urgent
treatment includes electrical shock therapy (defibrillation or cardio version), implanting a
temporary pacemaker and medications given through the vein, pain medicine, oxygen, fluids, and
blood or blood products (Dugdale, Cardiogenic Shock, 2012). Cardiogenic shock

Submission Employee Attitude and Satisfaction in a Prison: As a new warden at a large prison
in America, I have noticed that the prison is plagued with several physical quarrels and gang
loyalties that are divided along racial lines. In addition, the prison staff has had several problems
that are related to racial identity as evident in staff arrangement based on racial groups during a
turnout before shift change. When the prison tried to plan for diversity training, there was a record
breaking employee absenteeism as well as increased employee disputes and arguments. It s quite
evident that employees attitude in this prison is significantly affected by racial groupings, which in
turn has a major effect on their job satisfaction. This paper examines the issue of employee attitude
and satisfaction at the prison, which is characterized with difficult working environment and
ineffective attempts to enhance employee racial relations. The evaluation is based on the use of
several sources whose credibility is based on the publishers and their contributions to the criminal

the movement of cinema that started during Weimar Germany. The German expressionist cinema is
where the horror genre grew and where it influenced FilmNoir as German Expressionism cinema is

Lighting techniques such as the Chiaroscuro lighting is used, it uses contrasts between extreme
dark and light. This is accomplished through low key lighting and increasing contrast highly.
However, as mentioned before, such techniques could not be used in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
where, instead, they painted shadows on the walls to build the harsh contrast. The Chiaroscuro, low
key lighting, high contrasts and the hand made creation of shadows all build an abstract form of
image that is broad, non realistic and bold and create more distortion to the image. The
exaggeration of shadows and contrasts aids to convey strong emotion stress and fear in this case
reflecting the traumatic stress encountered by many people at that era like Janowitz and Mayer.
The distortion the extreme shadows create reflect on the destruction and corruption in Germany
after the World War. German Expressionism use simple lighting from the front and sides,
illuminating the scene flatly and evenly to stress the links between the figures and the dГ©cor. In
some notable cases, shadows are used to create additional distortion that build suspense and to

How Does Dr. Heidegger s Experiment Symbolism
The Secret behind the Doors An allegory, also known as an analogy, is a short story that can
have hidden meanings using symbols and characters. Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel
Hawthorne is an example of this because when being read, the reader can see that the symbols are
out of the ordinary and not just a plain rose, or skeleton. The symbols throughout this short story
represent events that occur in the story, as foreshadow to the end. The characters are used to show
emotions people contain, and to prove a point by Hawthorne. Hawthorne represents hidden
meanings by using a series of symbols, and characters to appeal to the reader s common sense in

The first battle of the Persian War, the Battle of Marathon, took place in 490 BC. King Darius sent
troops to Greece which stopped at each Greek island along the way demanding earth and water,
which both literally and symbolically represented submission to the Persian empire. The Battle of
Marathon exemplifies the heroic action of the Greeks. The Athenians, led by one of their ten
generals, Miltiades, unflinchingly faced the Persians, an army over twice the size of theirs, and
triumphed. The Athenians won the Battle of Marathon because they employed superior military
strategy. There are some discrepancies, however, between different literary sources about how the
Greeks fought the Battle of Marathon. For instance, Herodotus claims that the ten Athenian
generals could not decide whether to go into battle. He writes that Miltiades talked the other
generals into fighting. Herodotus writes that they waited for days for Miltiades to lead the army,
and then they went into battle (Hdt. 6.110 111.2). According to Nancy Demand, however,
Herodotus, unaware of the right of the polemarch to make all final decisions, wrote that Miltiades
decided when to lead the men into battle, because the longer they delayed the battle, the better
chance the Athenians had that the Spartans would make it in time to help. Regardless of any
conflict between sources, the heroism of the Athenians cannot be denied. Marathon represents the
victory of a small contingent of men fighting

Hallmark Symptoms Of Schizophrenia
Today, the hallmark symptom of schizophrenia is psychosis, meaning a patient experiences
hallucination and delusions. The hallucinations usually manifest as the patient hearing voices
inside their head. With delusions, patients think that a person in trying to read their mind, control

symptoms, it makes it very difficult for a patients to manage their emotions, make decisions, think

The Theme of Leadership Portrayed in The Odyssey and the...
Built in qualities such as intelligence, good looks, height and so on are not necessary to become a
good leader. Anyone can cultivate the proper leadership qualities. In order to excel in their
leadership a good leader must possess qualities such as self awareness, courage, confidence,
innovation, fairness, openness, and dedication among others. Odysseus in The Odyssey, and
Samuel, Saul and Davidin the Books of Samuel, display these characters. However, at some
occasions they fail to do so. That is to say, leaders, being it great or small, chosen by God or people,
are not completely perfect.
Self awareness is one of the leadership qualities portrayed in The Odyssey and the Books of
Samuel. Odysseus possesses this quality. Several times ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shows he is weak and not ready to lead. (1 Samuel 9:21). Saul even hides when he is supposed
to show himself to the Israelites as the chosen King (1 Samuel 11: 22). Although Saul knows that
he cannot lead, he has no choice, he has to follow the Lord s order. At last, God realizes that Saul
was indeed not a leader type person and chooses another person. God must have known that people
are not forced to be leaders, but they themselves should be aware of the ability to be leaders.
Confidence is another trait a leader should possess. Both Odysseus in The Odyssey and David
in the Books of Samuel demonstrate this quality. They have belief in their abilities to meet most
challenges that come their way. Odysseus never believes a person initially, being it mortal or
immortal. He always likes to be done in his way. Odysseus believes in himself rather than
anybody else. He wants to figure what to do for himself and not someone else do it for him. For
instance, he argues with Calypso and Ino because Odysseus did not believe them initially, but
wanted things to be done his way (Book 5, line 180 line 370). Moreover, David, another God
chosen King of Israelites, shows confidence when he tells Saul that though he (David) is young,
he can fight the giant Philistine warrior, Goliath (1Samuel 17:32 37). However, David confidence
is from the fact that God is on his side and will not let him down.
Courage is also needed in a leadership. This quality is portrayed in The

During the 16th century the world was changing. People started to think differently. Governments
started changing, people were migrating and people were debating. In Europe there were many
enlightened thinkers. Leonardo da Vinci finished Mona Lisa during the 16th century. Michelangelo
carved his Statue of David. (World History Timeline: 16th Century) Around the world people were
starting to think for themselves. Unfortunately rulers, kings, and leaders didn t like that. So, in
order to prevent rebellious actions towards their governments, leaders created strict laws. Most
people didn t like that, so they chose to move. As they traveled, they carried ideas with them.
Some Europeans were exploring the world. They reached land that they haven t seen, and their

Essay on The True Character of Isabella in Measure for...
The True Character of Isabella in Measure for Measure
Some critics of Shakespeare s play, Measure for Measure, judge Isabella as a narrow minded but
passionate girl afflicted with an irrational terror of sex (Barton, 546), a young, immature woman
demonstrating moral absurdity and cruelty (Nicholls, 478), whose actions are scarcely defensible.
A classmate of mine asked, Why doesn t Isabella just sleep with Angelo? What s the big deal? These
statements reveal that these people have no understanding or sympathy for Isabella s position:
socially, morally or physically.
Perhaps I take the issue of Isabella s character so seriously because I played the role of Isabella in
our college s production of the play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet I found that the script does allow for an Isabella of greater richness than we usually see
reflected in print. From within, I measured her differently.
We often hear that Isabella is a rigid absolutist, particularly in her attitude toward sexual activity
outside marriage. But beginning at the beginning, I found that Isabella is a humorous, tolerant wit.
Now I imagine that those adjectives surprise you, but let me move through her first scene, taking
into account the choices our director Ronnie Larson, the other actors and I made. In Act I scene iv, I
was blocked to enter quietly, head down, and then suddenly see the Duke (disguised in his monk
s habit) who was still center stage after his soliloquy. I paused, while our Duke awkwardly and
hesitantly blessed me with the sign of the cross. I smiled and shook my head slightly, amused at
his evident bashfulness, thinking Who is this strange brother? This moment gave me a sense of
calm certainty I knew what I was doing in this convent and in a habit, even if he didn t. I passed
downstage of him as he exited, unfurled a large white cloth on the stage as a symbolic altar, and
kneeled on it, beginning an audible rosary, Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Our Lucio, entering from the audience, saw me praying and knelt down beside me for his line,
Hail, virgin, if you be.

Diversity Makes Good Business Case
According to the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary, Diversity refers to variety in the field of
concern. However, Leopold, J. et al (2005) refers to managing diversity as a belief that all
individual differences should be valued and recognized. It is in this context that diversity has
become center of concern in most organizations. It is believed that employing a more diverse
workforce could enhance an organization s service or products to a wider range of clients or
customers. It is also said that diversity emphasizes for four main reasons, namely maximizing the
resources available in the labour market, maximizing the potential within the organization s
workforce, creating business opportunities through the employment of a diverse... Show more

It is said that, those firms that are more heterogeneous, are likely to attract best employees
regardless of age, gender or ethnicity. Above all, firms that celebrate diversity, their work force
is highly expected to be more committed to the employers because of the recognition and
valuing of individual differences. To this context, cost associated with turnover and absenteeism
will be reduced, Leopold, et al (2005). This implies that diversity can provide an organization
with competitive advantage. For example a giant chemical firm DuPont, used input from
African American work force to develop and successfully market agricultural products for small
farmers in the South, Fred Luthans, (2011). It is reported that a multicultural team at DuPont
enabled the firm to gain about forty five million Dollars in a new business worldwide. Coca cola
is another truly world brand which is readily identified by consumers in virtually every country.
With, this in mind, it can be agreed at a larger extent that diversity makes good business case.
However, employing a diverse work force can present conflicts of interest and increase the
complicity of managerial problem solving and decision making. Some organizations reject
employing women because they lack tenacity. It has been observed that when deadlines are tight
at work place managers need people who are willing to spend more, time at the office, Luthans,
(2011). However, firms that celebrate gender diversity at work place, have

Death Penalty Persuasive Essay
An Eye For An Eye
Have you ever watched a movie like Alice in Wonderland where every few scenes somebody is
put to death? This really happens to this day. The real question is if you think it should stay or be
abolished. The death penalty is needed and shouldn t be revoked in any of the states that support it.
Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is one of the oldest forms of punishments. Some of the
ways societies used to kill people was: boiling to death, hanging, and decapitation. Today some
countries still use these methods, however here in the United States capital punishment is
mainly death by lethal injection, electric chair, or firing squad. The death penalty should be in
place for three reasons. The first being the religious aspect, the deterrent of crime, and the
overcrowding as well as the cost. The United States is as close as you can be to a theocracy
without being one. Think about our pledge of allegiance, One nation under God and also on our
paper money there is, In God We Trust printed on them. Our founding fathers did not do a great
job at separating church and state. Now it is what every American uses and says everyday no
matter what religion they are. Since there is no getting away from the beliefs of the world then
God is possibly the most important reason to keep capital punishment. In Genesis 9:6: it is written,

Solomon Northup executed his very gruesome and serious tone throughout his memoir by
providing dialogue said by real life people and using diction to give nauseating details to events
going on around him throughout his twelve years in bondage. For example, Solomon Northup
explains in chapter five how a fellow free slave named Arthur was abused for trying to protest the
unfair kidnapping. Solomon states, He fought until his strength failed him. Overpowered at last, he
was gagged and bound with ropes, and beaten, until he became insensible. (39). The slave masters
were not compassionate and defiantly enforced the depressing tone of the memoir. Solomon
Northup explains how Eliza, a slave mother, is being separated from her son and the cruel,

Nt1330 Unit 3 Individual Assignment
Reflection/Guided Inquiry #4
1 Describe a challenge that you encountered while on your most recent co op. What skills,
knowledge and personal qualities did you use to approach it? What did you learn from it? With
what type of mindset (growth or fixed) had you approached that challenge? Having had the
experiences that you have had since then, would you approach it differently today? Why or why
not?
My manager had assigned me a challenging individual task to come up with an innovative project
idea that can solve current business problem. At first, I was blank on how to go for it, since not
having any project requirement details and user experience background. But, with the growth
mindset and never to give up attitude, I accepted the challenge ... Show more content on

I was part of the team that was developing custom ordering applications and we were always in a
phase of creating new custom ordering application with similar kind of skeleton. This gave rise to
the business problem of creating multiple individual ordering applications which requires large
number of resources, support and training which lead to a never ending loop. So, I started
thinking in terms of creating a single mobile Universal Ordering System that can fit all of the
existing applications as well as scale up to add/modify more of them on the fly. I started applying
my technical skills on understanding the business flow, database architecture and mobile
architecture of each of the applications, as well as personal skills to understand business process.
Overall, helped me to understand entire business of order management. This guided me to develope
a full proof project plan, business flow, data architecture and UI mock ups for Universal Ordering
System which was greatly appreciated by the entire team and now the company is in a phase of

FARC In Colombia
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) were formed in 1964 with the stated
intention of overthrowing the government and installing a Marxist regime. After modest
beginnings, the group rose to prominence through the 1980s and 1990s as its association with the
drugs trade improved its financial standing. At its peak, it was the largest and best equipped
guerrilla force in Latin America. According to a timeline written by BBC (2016) the major events
throughout the armed conflict history in Colombia is as it follows: In 1964, the FARC was
formed by Manuel Marulanda after fleeing a government assault on communist groups in the
country. In 1966, The FARC were adopted by the Communist Party of Colombia as its armed wing.

which was the first mass abduction carried out by the group. Three years later, President

and dialogue following a meeting between the two in July the previous year. Large areas of the
country were demilitarized to facilitate the talks. Nevertheless, in 2002, the FARC rebels
hijacked a domestic flight carrying 24 passengers, prompting President Andres Pastrana to end
peace talks which began in 1999. In 2002, Senator Ingrid Betancourt was kidnapped and held for
six years before being rescued by the Colombian military along with 14 other hostages. This is
considered one of the most horrifying crimes committed by the FARC. Later in 2008, the group
confirmed the death of FARC founder Manuel Marulanda from heart attack. In 15 November
2011, the group announced that Timoleon Jimenez, alias Timochenko, was the new leader of the
group. Later in August 2012, President Juan Manuel Santos said talks have begun over a new

The King Who Was Well Bred Rose And Went To Meet Her Analysis
Consider the word see in line 606, as Lanval s love enters the room she is immediately noticed.
This prompt response to her entrance straightaway reveals the implications of her beauty and the
importance it has on Lanval s trial along with the male relation the females in this time period.
Women are objectified to a certain extent yet also essential to the inner workings of society. This
can also be observed in the context of this passage due to the fact that the queenmade the
accusations against Lanval and though they were lies the extensive reach of her authority is
notable. Also consider the line 607 The king who was well bred rose and went to meet her
(166). This line directly relates aspects of the chivalric code to a woman s beauty due to the fact
that the king was well bred he did not make her walk all the way to him and instead rose to meet...

While at the same time as exemplifying masculinity through chivalry this line also begins the
subversion of gender roles by putting the woman in the more dominant position she is now in
control of this situation. In the following line it is stated that all the others honored her and
offered to serve her (166). The use of the verbs honor and offer are direct effects of the way they
see her which continues to implicate the importance of her beauty while also putting her in a
dominant role. This is emphasized once again in lines 611 612 When they had looked at her
well, when they greatly praised her beauty (166). This is another instance in which a verb,
praised, is a direct result of seeing her beauty. This direct relation between such verbs and her
presence helps to demonstrate her force and impact as a woman along with her characterization as
a sovereign being. In lines 613 614 it is stated that she spoke in this way, she didn t want to wait

Prop 227 Points of Contention Essay
What are the main points of contention surrounding this issue? Be sure to thoroughly discuss
contrasting perspectives and the underlying reasons explaining the different positions people take
on this topic.
The main arguments surrounding Prop 227, is whether or not bilingual programs should be in
schools in California. Some argue that having bilingual programs doesn t help the student to learn
English, it just reinforces their native language. Also it has be said that test scores supposedly did
not improve in the bilingual programs. On the other hand though, people are arguing that the
English Immersion programs do not work because for smaller children they must learn how to read
and write in their native language to be able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem with both bilingual education and English as a second language instruction in the
United States lies in our unwillingness to treat English for non speakers as an academic subject
(Haas, 2007). While the bilingual programs in California are thought to be mostly for people who
speak Spanish, there are also Asian students that need to be taught proper English before continuing
their education. As one anonymous teacher points out: I have had 32 different languages spoken in
my classroom over a 25 year period. Eighty four languages are spoken in our district. (Anon 1998
Haas 2007). Which for most teachers mean that it is both educationally and economically
impossible to teach every student in their own native language.
In contrast, the people against Prop 227, state that the Prop creates too much chaos and does not
support every learner. Adaptations and modifications are not allowed for non native English
speakers (i.e. all public school instruction will be conducted in English) (Linton, 2007). The change
from bilingual education to English Immersion was of great confusion for both students and
parents, due to the sudden change in consistency between districts, school, and teachers. Prop 227
threatened teachers and administration with legal penalties if they tried to teach or a help a student
in a foreign language. Some that are opposed to Prop 227,

Arguments Against Legalizing Drugs
Illegal drugs affect people every day whether it be through consumption or tax dollars collected to
fight the war on drugs. Drugs in America are undoubtedly dangerous and unhealthy; however, many
Americans believe the United States will benefit from legalizing drugs. Prohibition has shown
failure to stop illegal narcotics, therefore he United Statesshould consider legalizing drugs to put an
end to this on going war on drugs. There are many reasons the United States should legalize drugs
including saving money, reducing crime, and making drugconsumption safer.
The first benefit of legalizing drugs is saving money. According to we are the drug policy alliance,
the U.S. spends more than $51,000,000,000 annually battling the war on drugs (P, 2002). Every
year, more and more money is consistently spent battling an endless war on drugs. The current

In a regulated and organized environment, drugs would be safer for adults and less reachable to
children. Illegal drugs will no longer be made in the dirtiest facilities and by unqualified
individuals. Drugs will be made by medical specialists, reducing the number of overdose and
poisoning deaths. Illegal drugs are known to be made in dirty facilities. Prohibition on drugs
causes users restricted access to clean hypodermic needles (P, 2002). Drug users inject the drugs
such as heroin with hypodermic needles because that s the way to get the biggest, longest high
for the money (2014). If one consumer has infected blood and some of their blood enters the
needle as it s pulled out, the next person to use the needle is likely to shoot the contaminated
blood into their own blood. Legalizing drugs will slow the spread of AIDS by allowing and
promoting the sale of clean hypodermic needles. With needles being inexpensive and openly
accessible, the drug users will not have to share them with others and risk obtaining a deadly virus

Ideals And Controversies Of National Park Expansion
Ideals and Controversies of National Park Expansion Since the early 1920s to the 1970s, there
has been a debate regarding the perceptions and standards by which national parks should be
established and limiting the expansion of national parks, limiting access for people living in
urban areas and threatening open spaces due to urban sprawl and over population. Gradually
traditional perceptions gave way to the preservationists viewpoints which redefined and
gradually expanded federal definition of national parks. This was to include areas that may not
be extraordinarily scenic but still required environmental protection or allowed recreational
access for urban citizens, allowing for expansion and more funding. In 1872, Yellowstone
National Park in Wyoming became the first national park to be established by Congress and
President Grant with the signing of the Act of Dedication Law. It followed that any national park
established subsequently would be measured against Yellowstone s significance in American
culture. (Runte, 2010, p. 190) This is based on its impressive geological features, and majestic
and monumental scenery. By the early 1900s, there was controversy surrounding the criteria as to
what would define a national park, as President Roosevelt had signed in several tracts of lands as
national parks that did not hold scenic value, where not especially expansive tracts of land, and one
was utilized as a gaming preserve by a governmental branch. One proponent to the

Pro Anorexia Persuasive Essay
Anything that promotes an unhealthy lifestyle is inappropriate, right? Wrong. Eating disorders
have been on the rise among teenagers, and whether or not pro anorexia websites should be
banned is a hot topic of debate. People are quick to judge pro anorexia websites since they
promote unhealthy lifestyles, but these websites can actually be a positive resource for those
who suffer from eating disorders. Understanding Pro Anorexia Websites On a pro anorexia
website, one might find pictures of unhealthily thin women, advice on how to stop eating, and
motivational posts to help those who suffer from anorexia reach their goal weight. Some users
even provide tips on how to overcome the various side effects that come with anorexia fainting
spells, fatigue, and dehydration. These websites are usually blogs or discussion boards, and
users often anonymously post and interact with others. For many sufferers, pro anorexia websites
are the only resource that they feel comfortable resorting to. The Importance of Anonymity
Those who suffer from eating disorders often resort to internet discussion boards because they
are anonymous. Eating disorders are often criticized, and many sufferers are afraid of being
judged or ridiculed by their family or friends. Those with anorexia often hear lines like Just eat a
hamburger! or Why can t you just eat like the rest of us? Saying things like this to an anorexic
person is not going to help them at all. If anything, words like

Metaphors In Shakespeare s Works
Shakespeare s work is among the hardest to read because of its supposed complexity and
sophistication. The language used in the Early Modern Era is different than that of the Post
Modern Era. Audiences that saw the performances were aural learners and were able to pinpoint
certain tones and facial expressions that readers may not detect through words. Watching the plays
performed provided better feedback than readings do (Palfrey 10 11). Metaphors, implicit or
explicit, are figures of speech that help compare two unlike things and are not designed for literal
intake. Yet, with Shakespeare s work, metaphors should be taken literally. According to George
Lakoff and Mark Johnson, however, this technique of comparison allows metaphors to
simultaneously highlight and hide certain attributes and/or qualities about the thing(s) being
compared to (12 13). The highlighting and hiding of metaphors gives readers more insight into
what Shakespeare may have meant at the time or even more so in what context did the people of
the Elizabethan Age use language (Palfrey 11). Two important components of metaphors that do
the highlighting and hiding are the vehicle and the tenor; each can be implicit or explicit as well.
The metaphor in question emphasizes both the importance and unimportance of Lavinia s
character. Shakespeare s work is littered with metaphors; some which require careful reading to
pick up on, while others are easily detectable. Simon Palfrey states that Shakespeare s

Howl By Ginsberg Analysis
Have you ever read a poem or book and did not like it or could not understand it? I have, and the
poem is called Howl by Allen Ginsberg. Part one of Howl takes the reader on a rant filled
journey through Ginsberg s and his friends, The Beat generation, life experiences. Part two he
talks of everything he hates and uses the term Moloch to describe it. Part three he talks to Carl
Solomon, a friend of his. His angry tone and over the top use of imagery for government, drugs,
and sexuality leaves the readers wondering what the heck is going on and what is he really trying
to say? The reader has to break down each line to decipher what is really going on and through all
that time an effort; the value of the message is lost. Allen Ginsbergwas born on June 3, 1926, in
Newark, New Jersey. Ginsberg s father was a poet and a teacher. His mother suffered from mental

wing intellectual. They saw themselves in each other almost immediately (Ginsberg, para 24). He
uses the word Rockland to describe the mental institution they met in. I m with you in Rockland
where you imitate the shade of my mother. (Howl, line 96). This line is understandable and shows
the audience the connection he feels with him. Ginsberg also brings the reader in on a little
history of Solomon by sharing some of Solomon experiences with the reader, but just like the rest
of the poem his choice of words and imagery is unsavory. I m with you in Rockland where you will

by senior citizens. In 2010, the highest suicide rate occurred in the age range of 45 64 years old.
The next highest rate occurred with those over age 85. They are driven mostly because the

There Are Good Men And Great Men Essay
There are good men and great men. When it comes to choosing leaders, it often seems that the
will of the people often will back the man they perceive to not just be good, but great. Great in
what though? Whether the people have a choice of their leader or are forced into living under the
command of their leader, people will more times than not, more willingly summit themselves to the
rule of a great man rather than a man who is simply good or on the other end a tyrant. Cyrus the
Great, as portrayed by historian Xenophon in The Education of Cyrus shows perhaps one of the
greatest leaders of the ancient world, especially in the region of the modern day Middle East.
Xenophon describes to his reader the renowned and extremely loved character of Cyrus as both
a conqueror and as an emperor. In seeing Cyrus as a military ruler and as a ruler over a vast
nation, Cyrus appears to be the perfect man for modern day, Republican politics. Through the
dissection of the character of Cyrus, laid out by Xenophon, both as a conquer and as an
emperor, it becomes evident that Cyrus, if alive today, would prove to be the perfect leader of
the people of the free world. As president, there are two major roles that encompass all other roles
that the person who takes the position must be able to balance: commander in chief to the armed
forces and leader of the people of the nation. These roles of the president, parallel with the roles
that Cyrus played as both conquer and emperor. In both these

These measures are what makes the community a safe place to live in. In the Giver written by Lois Lowry the society that is being shown is taking safety to another level. The leaders of this society are doing everything they can to protect the citizens. When a jet flew over the town the leaders did not hesitate to bring everyone to shelter. All of the citizens were ordered to go to the nearest building and stay there (Lowry 2). This is just a jet and if we saw one in the society we live in, nothing would be done to protect the citizens because it is not a big deal. So we can already state this place is ten times safer ... • 4. The Importance Of The Great Sphinx The Great Sphinx was a very large structure built in ancient Egypt. It was very important to the Egyptians and it did many things for them. It is also the one of largest, ancient freestanding structures that is still standing today, meaning that there are no supports holding it up. The Sphinx has been a symbol of Egyptfor many years. King Khafre, one of Egypt s many pharaohs, commissioned the Sphinx. It was estimated to be built around 2500 BC. Khafre reigned from 2520 BC to 2494 BC, so people presume that the Sphinx was built in the Old Kingdom, which is the first of the three kingdoms and lasted from 2575 2465. Khafre was a man that had a lot of architectural talent because he built a structure that lasted for about 3500 years. The Sphinx was 66 feet tall, 241 feet long, and 63 feet wide. It sits in a reclining position, with its paws facing forward, toward east, pointing to the dawn of the star Regulus in the summer solstice. Regulus is the brightest star in the constellation of Leo, and was aligned with the Sphinx at about 2300 BC during the summer solstice. The Sphinx is believed to represent the pharaoh, Khafre. It guards the gates of Giza, where the pyramid of Khafre stands. The Sphinx was not built brick by brick, like the Great Pyramid of Egypt, but it was carved from a huge mass of limestone from the Giza Plateau. The Sphinx was built with three tunnels leading to somewhere, but the erosion has blocked them off, which doesn t allow historians to figure our where they led. It was also built with a tomb for Khafre the man who commissioned the Sphinx. The erosion made the Sphinx slowly crumble, which led to parts of the face falling off. Because of the changing of the desert terrain, the sand had buried the Sphinx completely. People started to dig it up again in 1817, and they soon uncovered the chest and then the feet. Lastly, they restored the head and completely revealed the whole Sphinx in 1905. (Guardians.net) The Sphinx was interpreted as a sun god, specifically Horus of the Horizon. The Sphinx had a body the shape of a lion, and a head the shape of a pharaoh. It has become a symbol of wisdom and strength. In the book, Temples, Tombs, and Hieroglyphs, written by Barbara Mertz, it says, It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Glaciers Are Formed By Ice Erosion Glaciers are essentially frozen rivers. They are common in the Northern Hemisphere as well as at high altitude. Glaciers don t erode quickly, but over a long period of time they can cause drastic changes. Did you know that Glacial lakes are formed by ice erosion? The glacier carves out a ditch in the earth and the glacial water melts and is left behind, and when the glacier is moving, it collects rocks with it. A Glacier s weight, combined with its gradual movement means that the glaciers can change the land and make unique land forms. The three processes by which glaciation effects and changes landscape is erosion, transportation and deposition. You can either walk in Monday through Thursdays between 8am 6pm and on Fridays from 8am 4pm. You can also schedule a same day appointment if you feel more comfortable with that. The health center offers a lot of services within the center including men s services, women s services, immunizations, laboratory, and many more, however, some of these services have underlying issues. The issues that I found within the Health Center are all centered around costs and fees, such as the women and men services and having an unfair costs between those services that are given. The Health Center also has more expensive prices for the services that they administer compared to other college campuses and they charge unnecessary costs to some of the laboratory tests. This is after the long acting inhaled beta has been used in the treating of asthma since the year 1990. In order to get information about the effect of long acting beta agonists, information was extracted from authoritative journals that were written after the FDA s recommendation. These journals were written in order to address the concerns that came after Asthma patients who had used long term beta agonists when it came to the treatment of asthma (LoМ€tvall, 2012: 32). This paper will argue about the safe use of long acting beta agonist in asthma patients and the recommendations of its use. Research methodology The material for this research was gotten from various journals such as US National library of medicine as well as other databases such as Medical research journal. The information from these journals is credible as the journals are peer reviewed and scholarly. Since the introduction of the extensive acting beta agonists, there has been an improvement for many people that live with asthma (LoМ€tvall, 2012 39). The answer is it could be all of the above. Chances are, you have once read and maybe even declared a banned book your favorite book. Books like the Harry Potter series, Go Ask Alice, or The Hunger Games series are all on the banned book list. These books are often removed from schools or public library shelves. For many years, American schools have been pressured to restrict or deny students access to books or periodicals deemed objectionable by some individual or group on moral, political, religious, ethnic, racial, or philosophical grounds. (The Students 1) The pressure of removing said controversial books comes from concerned parents or administrators that feel the book s content is too overwhelming for their children or students. According to Butler University, over 2500 of the 3500 challenged books came from concerned parents between 2000 and 2009 (LibGuides 3) Banning these books places an authoritarian outlook on our school systems and freedom to read in America. In this situation, Jim speaks, Dell, ...let s put our Christmas presents away and keep em a while. They re too nice to use just as a present. I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops on (Henry 3). This statement demonstrates that Jim has made a similar sacrifice as Della. Similarly, he gave away something so precious and memorable. This supports the theme because he sacrificed his watch, which was a family heirloom. It was very generous of him of selling it to buy something more generic for Della. Him sacrificing his watch represents true love. Some people may say that it was pointless for them to give up their valuable possessions because they didn t end up being used at all. Essay on The Film My Girl The 1991 movie My Girl tells the story of 11 year old Vada Sultenfuss who, having lost her mother at birth , lives with her dementia ridden grandmother and her job oriented father in the funeral parlour that he owns and operates. The story follows Vada, an extreme hypochondriac who has many strange misconceptions about death, through a variety of life changing experiences, including the engagement of her father and the devastating loss of her best friend, Thomas Jay. Through these experiences, the audience witnesses Vada s social, emotional, and intellectual growth, as well as her changing views of death. One... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her father s lack of attention has also likely influences Vada s misconceptions about death; his response to Vada s question about whether a particularly small casket is for a child is no , that it is simply for short people. Furthermore, when Vada feigns dying one night at dinner, her father s reaction is to ignore her rather than talk to her about what the real issue is. Behavior such as this might be viewed as both a lack of understanding about death as well as an attempt to get attention that is so obviously absent. Vada s father s lack of attention to his daughter s needs is similarly illustrated in the fact that when Vada starts her period, she believes she is haemorrhaging; he has not adequately educated her on the normal bodily changes that are unrelated to death, nor on the subject of death itself. A related important event in this movie is the quick engagement of Vada s father. Vada reacts to this news negatively, recruiting Thomas Jay to run away with her, and eventually returning to find that no one has even noticed her absence which only frustrates her further. Vada, who has never seen her father as a particularly happy person, suddenly sees a change in his demeanor when he meets and starts dating Shelly; for Vada, this translates to her inability to make her father happy, that she is unneeded, and that she was not ... I try my hardest, to make everyone feel special and love themselves. I have many perspectives of the movie. Though, the feeling that often returns is fear. I loved the movie because it is was very inspirational, but I felt fear because this was what our world was a long time ago and it still is now. I felt that the movie was describing reality. I said the movie was inspirational because if someone tries hard enough, they can change you in a negative and positive way, but if you try twice as hard, you can change yourself in which ever way you desire. The movie itself might have changed people lives, you saw the point of views from both sides. Negative and positive. Now its your turn to determine that path you wish to seek. These self organized systems are formed unconsciously and are able to be seen within everyday life. Dissociation and its effects are both conscious and unconscious. In the brain, what was initially a stimulus that caused no distress is now a cause for a psychological disturbance. By rewiring itself, a dissociative brain acts much like an AI, creating a self organizing system similar to a self learning AI, and patterns that are found in both systems. Patterns are also a key point in self organizing systems and are found in both the development of artificial intelligence and the traumatized brain through classical conditioning. Classical conditioning is a learning process in which two stimuli become associated with each other, causing a neutral stimulus, which is a stimulus normally not perceived as noteworthy, to be conditioned to cause an involuntary response. King Darius sent troops to Greece which stopped at each Greek island along the way demanding earth and water, which both literally and symbolically represented submission to the Persian empire. The Battle of Marathon exemplifies the heroic action of the Greeks. The Athenians, led by one of their ten generals, Miltiades, unflinchingly faced the Persians, an army over twice the size of theirs, and triumphed. The Athenians won the Battle of Marathon because they employed superior military strategy. There are some discrepancies, however, between different literary sources about how the Greeks fought the Battle of Marathon. Herodotus writes that they waited for days for Miltiades to lead the army, and then they went into battle (Hdt. 6.110 111.2). • 38. Death Penalty Persuasive Essay An Eye For An Eye Have you ever watched a movie like Alice in Wonderland where every few scenes somebody is put to death? This really happens to this day. The real question is if you think it should stay or be abolished. The death penalty is needed and shouldn t be revoked in any of the states that support it. Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is one of the oldest forms of punishments. Some of the ways societies used to kill people was: boiling to death, hanging, and decapitation. Today some countries still use these methods, however here in the United States capital punishment is mainly death by lethal injection, electric chair, or firing squad. The death penalty should be in place for three reasons. The first being the religious aspect, the deterrent of crime, and the overcrowding as well as the cost. The United States is as close as you can be to a theocracy without being one. Think about our pledge of allegiance, One nation under God and also on our paper money there is, In God We Trust printed on them. Our founding fathers did not do a great job at separating church and state. Now it is what every American uses and says everyday no matter what religion they are. Since there is no getting away from the beliefs of the world then God is possibly the most important reason to keep capital punishment. Things Fall Apart By Solomon Northup Solomon Northup executed his very gruesome and serious tone throughout his memoir by providing dialogue said by real life people and using diction to give nauseating details to events going on around him throughout his twelve years in bondage. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem with both bilingual education and English as a second language instruction in the United States lies in our unwillingness to treat English for non speakers as an academic subject (Haas, 2007). While the bilingual programs in California are thought to be mostly for people who speak Spanish, there are also Asian students that need to be taught proper English before continuing their education. As one anonymous teacher points out: I have had 32 different languages spoken in my classroom over a 25 year period. Eighty four languages are spoken in our district. (Anon 1998 Haas 2007). Which for most teachers mean that it is both educationally and economically impossible to teach every student in their own native language. Adaptations and modifications are not allowed for non native English speakers (i.e. all public school instruction will be conducted in English) (Linton, 2007). The change from bilingual education to English Immersion was of great confusion for both students and parents, due to the sudden change in consistency between districts, school, and teachers. Gradually traditional perceptions gave way to the preservationists viewpoints which redefined and gradually expanded federal definition of national parks. This was to include areas that may not be extraordinarily scenic but still required environmental protection or allowed recreational access for urban citizens, allowing for expansion and more funding. In 1872, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming became the first national park to be established by Congress and President Grant with the signing of the Act of Dedication Law. • 51. Metaphors In Shakespeare s Works Shakespeare s work is among the hardest to read because of its supposed complexity and sophistication. The language used in the Early Modern Era is different than that of the Post Modern Era. Audiences that saw the performances were aural learners and were able to pinpoint certain tones and facial expressions that readers may not detect through words. Watching the plays performed provided better feedback than readings do (Palfrey 10 11). Metaphors, implicit or explicit, are figures of speech that help compare two unlike things and are not designed for literal intake. Yet, with Shakespeare s work, metaphors should be taken literally. According to George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, however, this technique of comparison allows metaphors to simultaneously highlight and hide certain attributes and/or qualities about the thing(s) being compared to (12 13). The highlighting and hiding of metaphors gives readers more insight into what Shakespeare may have meant at the time or even more so in what context did the people of the Elizabethan Age use language (Palfrey 11). Two important components of metaphors that do the highlighting and hiding are the vehicle and the tenor; each can be implicit or explicit as well. The metaphor in question emphasizes both the importance and unimportance of Lavinia s character. Shakespeare s work is littered with metaphors; some which require careful reading to pick up on, while others are easily detectable. Simon Palfrey states that Shakespeare s ...
