The Importance Of Nation-State Policy
Along with the twenty first century tagged an interconnected and globalized world, consociated by
instantaneous worldwide communication and the free dissemination of information. With this new era
of technology, economic policies of nation states have become so interdependent that most nation state
economies would be crippled without their respective international trading partners. As such, one may
wonder if an introspective national policy is appropriate, as argued for by the source. For example,
one may contend that international cooperation inevitably results in unequitable compromise, with the
more powerful nation states forcing developing countries into partisan trade deals. This argument,
however, does not take into account the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, by stating that individuals, in general, do not appreciate others telling [them] how to deal
with ... the seal hunt , the speaker alludes to the fact that each nation state understands its own
eccentricities best, and that others cannot empathize because they simply do not have such resources,
such as seals. A nation state that chooses to remain isolated from the world suffers technologically. A
prominent example of the detrimental effects of isolationism and the beneficial effects of international
trade can be observed through the period and abolition of Sakoku, better known as the isolationist
foreign policy of Japan. During isolation, the Japanese were only scarcely aware of the technological
advances in Western technology. As such, when U.S. Commodore Matthew Perry s black ships
arrived, the Japanese were shocked at just how advanced the technology was, especially in
shipbuilding and weaponry. Rather than closing off its borders and potentially suffering the same fate
as China, the Meiji government decided to rapidly Westernize the nation, in terms of technology and
in things like clothing and eating habits, in an attempt to convince the Western powers that the
Japanese were their equals. By the time the Meiji rule concluded, Japan had a highly educated
population and an established and rapidly growing

The Effects Of Norm Violation On The Perception Of Power
Investigation of the Effects of Norm Violation
On the Perception of Power Power governs our society. A powerful person is one that has authority
over others. This sense of authority relieves them of the restrictions a person of lesser power might
face, allowing them to make and break rules. The four studies conducted in Breaking the Rules to Rise
to Power: How Norm Violators Gain Power in the Eyes of Others by Gerben A. Van Kleef, Astrid C.
Homan, Catrin Finkenauer, Seval Gu ̈ndemir and Eftychia Stamkou, explores the concept of power
and transgression. Such that if powerful people are expected to act against the norm, then acting
against the norm should make people seem more powerful. The overall study focused on the

(Van Kleef et al., 2011)
The study examined the response of 25 females and 15 men with a mean age of 19.53 on two scales.
The first scale was a 25 question questionnaire consisting of adjectives that described social
impressions of power and norm violation, which was then rated on a scale from 1 to 7 with 1 being
definitely not and 7 being definitely. The second scale asked participants to indicate the extent to
which the power statements This person is influential ; . . . has a leadership position ; . . . is in charge
of subordinates ; . . . enjoys considerable authority (Van Kleef et al., 2011), applied to the person
depicted in the scenario.
Results and Discussions Participants rated the actor that took the cup of coffee from the personnel
with a higher norm violation score than the actor that went to the bathroom. This indicated that they
recognized that the behavior of the actor that took the coffee cup was wrong. Despite that, the
participants rated that actor to be more powerful than the actor that went to the bathroom on both
scales. This gives the first evidence that violating the norm influences the perception of power (Van
Kleef et al., 2011).
Study 2: The Bookkeeper Study 2 employed a different type of norm violation to examine if the
affects show in study 1 would repeat. One hundred and sixty nine participants of unspecified age and
sex were asked to read a scenario about a bookkeeper that follows the rule and one that does

Lecture 5 Articles vs Constitution
The Articles of Confederation constructed a national government that had military power, elected
officials, power to declare war, and even the power to manage indian relations. It took many
complaints, and conflicts to ratify the Articles of Confederation. It has a certain structure, and many
weaknesses. On the other hand, the Constitution was also opposed, but accepted as well, and it is
ratified. A federal constitution was first proposed on June 12, 1176, when the Second Continental
Congress called for a thirteen man committee to draw it. It became known as the articles of
confederation the following November, and was turned in to the states for its approval. John
Dickinson was the main contributor to the Articles of confederation. He called it a League of
Friendship .The Articles took 5 years to get approved by all 13 states, and were ratified until March 1,
1781. The length taken to ratify the Articles was seen as a lack in common unity. There was complaint
that states with land could use their tracts to pay money for common cause. It seemed logical that the
western area be given to the central government to get rid of land for common benefit . There was a
problem with landed estates, which had land west of the Appalachians, and the landless states, which
boundaries were defined. It became an even bigger problem with the proclamation line of 1763. The
landless states said that land that was debated about should be shared by all

Google And Bing s Search Tools
Title of Your Report
Google it! . No, but really, Google it.
After analyzing both Google and Bing s search tools, I ve come to the conclusion that Google just has
more to offer. The tool that stands out the most and gave the best results was the Verbatim option
under All results . When using it, Google will only display results specific to the user s search term or
phrase. For example, when I search Gerrymandering , no results containing synonyms, similar terms,
previously used websites, or words from the same stem will appear in my results. When searching for
a phrase such as Gerrymandering in Maryland , the verbatim tool will only show the user results with
that exact phrase. No results containing those words separated should appear. Another great search
tool Google has to offer is the Advanced search , found in the upper right hand corner under the
options button. This tool offers the user many ways to narrow down their search to find the the exact
result their looking for. Some Advanced search allows users to search by language, region, last
updated, file type, usage rights, site or domain name, where the phrase appears on the site, ranging
numbers, and exact words or phrases. This tool is extremely beneficial to a searcher who knows
exactly what they re looking for, but can t find it in a general search.
While I find that Google offers a more efficient search engine, Bing has some unique search tools
itself. To start, when I search Gerrymandering , I see

Pros And Cons Of Natural Gas Fracking
Fracking is a relatively new way of retrieving oil and natural gases from shale rock and other natural
resources that reside in the earth s core, using air and water together. Thus far it has been proven to be
a quicker alternative to oil well drilling compared to conventional drilling methods. Oil and gas
companies are still learning about the side effects of this elaborate process day by day. Despite a few
side effects that have been discovered within the process, fracking has been very efficient and
beneficial. As stated in, Pros and Cons of Fracking: 5 Key Issues , Fracking saves lives, and it saves
them right now and not at some indiscernible date well into the future .

The nation is shifting towards electricity generated by natural gas over the past ten years 81 percent of
new electricity capacity has been gas fired and state governments are playing regulatory catch up with
the drilling technology s rapid expansion to meet this burgeoning demand .
(http://www.gracelinks.org/191/natural gas fracking introduction) However; to meet this demand, gas
and oil companies have ignored some rather important harmful effects of hydraulic fracturing. These
harmful effects include; water droughts, increased pollution, the spread of toxins, and possible
negative influence on local economies. Water droughts because of the fracking process are caused by
using up to approximately one hundred times more water than previous drilling methods. This means
that gradually less and less of the world where drilling is active or was active will have the ability to
attain non chemical induced water. The article, List of Pros and Cons of Fracking published by
Occupy Theory states that, Anywhere from 10 to 40 percent of fracking waste water flows back to the
original drilling surface (http://occupytheory.org/list of pros and cons of fracking/) Hydraulic
fracturing causes pollution in several different aspects. Oil and gas companies are not required to
provide a list of chemicals used in the process which causes those in the areas where drilling is present
to not be able to adapt correctly to these toxins. According to research, a few of the chemicals that
have been found present in fracking include; benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene. These three
chemicals are known to the scientific community to cause harmful effects on the health of people.
Also, the article, Pros and Cons of Fracking: 5 Key Issues explains that because of the dropping gas
prices, drilling use will

Company Background Of Ducati Motor Holding
1. Company Background
1.1 Business of the Company:
Ducati Motor Holding S.P.A. is an Italian company that designs and manufactures motorcycles.
Headquartered in Bologna, Italy, Ducati is owned by Audi through its Italian subsidiary Lamborghini.
In 1926 Antonio Cavaliers Ducati and his three sons, Adriano, Marcello, and Bruno cavaliers Ducati;
founded Society Scientific Radio Brevet Ducati in Bologna to produce vacuum tubes, condensers and
other radio components. In 1935 they had become successful enough to enable construction of a new
factory in the Borg Pan gale area of the city. Production was maintained during World War II, despite
the Ducati factory being a repeated target of Allied bombing. Farinelli began developing a small
pushrod engine for mounting on bicycles. Barely a month after the official liberation of Italy in 1944,
SIATA announced its intention to sell this engine, called the Cucciolo (Italian for puppy, in reference
to the distinctive exhaust sound) to the public. The first Cucciolos were available alone, to be mounted
on standard bicycles, by the buyer; however, businessmen soon bought the little engines in quantity,
and offered complete motorized bicycle units for sale. In 1950, after more than 200,000 Cucciolos had
been sold, in collaboration with SIATA, the Ducati firm finally offered its own Cucciolo based
motorcycle. This first Ducati motorcycle was a 48 cc bike weighing 98 lb. (44 kg) with a top speed of

The Next Generation of Storytelling Essay
Storytelling has been mankind s most broad and universal occupation since its conception and has
come a long way, developing new techniques and expanding in multiple domains. It can be considered
an ancient form of art because it is crucial for human expression. Every culture has made a
contribution to the narration of stories in various fields, such as, entertainment, literature, education,
the media and so forth, with the purpose of conveying an important message, or purely to entertain.
One entertainment medium which has been disregarded over the course of the years is the video
games industry. Over the last few years, this industry has developed into one of the most complex
branches in entertainment and has gained a great number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A famous game that followed a clear and simple pattern was Mario, where the player was given the
task of searching for the princess in successively empty castles. Another example of an early game is
Space Invaders, where the goal of the game was to destroy multiple rows of pixelated aliens. Because
storytelling techniques were primitive in the early years, the player was not rewarded with cutscenes
that drove the plot forward; instead he got points that were accumulated a total score. However, with
the passing of time, technology and the gaming audience evolved and matured, creating new
opportunities for the medium to expand its horizons and develop new storytelling techniques.
Following the significant evolutions in technology, video games have adopted these advancements and
continued to become more elaborate, especially with the use of motion capture, which allows
technicians to capture and record the live performance of actors that are applied to the 3D models of
the virtual character. This is only one element that makes the products of this medium so appealing
and immersive for the player. These technological advancements have given to the developers of
video games the opportunity to construct stories and characters which are more believable and
complex, bringing about a narrative revolution. In recent years, video games have boasted captivating
and thoughtful stories, allowing the

Thematic Comparison of The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire
Tennessee Williams is regarded as a pioneering playwright of American theatre. Through his plays,
Williams addresses important issues that no other writers of his time were willing to discuss, including
addiction, substance abuse, and mental illness. Recurring themes in William s works include the
dysfunctional family, obsessive and absent mothers and fathers, and emotionally damaged women.
These characters were inspired by his experiences with his own family. These characters appear
repeatedly in his works with their own recurring themes. Through The Glass Menagerie and A
Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams presents the similar thematic elements of illusion,
escape, and fragility between the two plays, proving that although similar, the themes within these
plays are not simply recycled, as the differences in their respective texts highlight the differences of
the human condition.
The characters of A Streetcar Named Desire and The Glass Menagerie are bound to their own hold on
illusions as a means of coping. In A Streetcar Named Desire, the character of Blanche exemplifies the
hold of illusion when she says, I don t want realism. I want magic! Blanche exemplifies the idea of
delusion as a means of coping. In The Glass Menagerie, the character Tom Wingfield sets the tone of
the play with his opening monologue in which he says, I give you truth in the

Government Support In Higher Education
Once again what a timely discussion question: Tuesday, January 17, 2017, Betsy DeVos Education
Secretary Confirmation Hearing gave the country a look at how politics play a major role in higher
education. The background of government support for higher education and students can be dated
back to the 1944 G.I. Bill, the National Defense Education Act of 1958, and the Higher Education Act
of 1965. According to the Student Aid Alliance (2013), the Higher Education Act of 1965 formed the
basis for the current federal student aid system, embodied the principle that all qualified students
should be able to attend college, regardless of their financial means . Nearly 80% of college students

Kraft and Furlong (2013) suggest that one of the major arguments for supporting education generally
is the belief that it is the great equalizer within U.S. society (p. 369). There are constantly two sides of
a contention. Here in the United States, individuals trust that education is the one of the best way to
keep up developing nations. It s a known idea that advanced education measures up to higher
compensations and more open doors. In any case, the issue is that the normal cost of advanced
education is more than an individual can bear the cost of for a long time at a state college. Along these
lines, many believe that the government should offset the cost of college (Sakamoto and Chapman,
2011). While there are others that trust that the legislature shouldn t pay for school. Ziguras and
McBurnie (2015) uncover that college educations are discretionary and it takes a family and a group
to make the correct circumstance for students to go to college through various scholarship
opportunities and student loans. The authors additionally propose that unfortunate, students through a
byproduct of human nature, the individuals who get a free ride are likewise less inclined to esteem the
education as opposed to working for it. Regardless of the arguments, Kraft and Furlong (2013),
express that although higher education costs and funding provoke considerable debate, the value of a

The Raft
In The Raft 2004 , Bill Viola used various visual tools to communicate with the viewers by making the
video in a slow motion. Not only this, he also used lights, colors and props in a creative way to make
the video look more attractive as well as more informative. The main reason behind artist using the
slow motion is to allow the viewers to carefully look at the movements as well as the activity of each
people. Similarly, he also used lights to make us see the various age group peoples properly along with
the facial expression. Not only this, he also zoomed in and out, which allows us to focus back and
forth and make our mind thinking that there are huge group of peoples. Likewise, he also used the
colors as well as props to denote each person getting engaged in something and making themselves
busy. However, the water comes from both the sides which adds a different level in the video. People
who were busy couple of minutes ago got to know each other s worth when the forceful water started
hitting on them.

I think power has been reflected in this piece in two ways: the physical power of the water, and the

An Analysis of A Forest Hymn by William Cullen Bryant
A Forest Hymn by William Cullen Bryant The poem A Forest Hymn talk of the origin of all the nature
that surrounds humanity and the activities of these naturally found objects. It gives an indication that
the source of all the nature that we see is God and He is the one who controls their actions in all
aspects and as to that, the poet implores the entire humanity to humble itself before the creator and
controller of nature and worship him, not necessarily in houses or in crowds as both of these are weak
and cannot stand before the might of the creator, but in natural settings. This poem is therefore widely
a statement of pantheism, which is a position that god and nature are the same. According to Matt
Slick, (2011) the word pantheism is derived from Greek words Pan meaning all and the other section
from theos meaning God. This then implies that all nature found in the universe, from the stars,
mountains, planets, wind, rain, storms are all part of what God is hence pantheists contest that God is
all and all nature is part of God. This should not be confused with the Christian perspective that God
created all nature but these are inferior to him and are in no way equal to him. This poem is generally
a pantheism statement exemplified since it equates nature to be having the same powers as God. The
poet indeed starts off by stating clearly that The groves were God s first temples. Ere man learned an
indication that if man is inferior to God, yet God used nature

“While Shareholders and Managers Will Have Different...
Managers are hired to act on behalf of the shareholders of a firm. However, this is not always the case
as both parties have different objectives. The difference in interests between shareholders and
managers derives from the separation of ownership and control in a corporation (Berk and DeMarzo,
2011: 921). Whereas shareholders are interested in maximising their own wealth, managers may have
more personal interests which differ to that of the shareholders. Downs and Monsen (no date, cited in
Chin, Cooley and Monsen, 1968:435) suggest that managers self interest lies in maximising their life
time income and that such self interest will be congruent with profit maximisation for the firm only in
special cases . This conflict between both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it may be a simple solution, there are costs involved. Berk and DeMarzo (2011:922) state
that as no one shareholder has an incentive to bear these costs, as the benefits are then divided
between all shareholders, they instead elect a board of directors to monitor the managers on their
behalf. The directors duties include hiring the executive team, approving major investments and
acquisitions, and dismissing executives if necessary (Berk and DeMarzo, 2011: 922). The level of
monitoring required differs across firms and is based on the magnitude of the incentive gap between
principal and agent (Beatty and Zajac, 1994, cited in Westphal and Zajac, 1994:125). However, the
main factor affecting the level of monitoring provided is the cost, otherwise all rational firms would
monitor maximally, irrespective of the strength of incentive compensation contracts or other factors
(Westphal and Zajac, 1994:125). Although the board of directors are hired to keep a close eye on top
management, the agency problem may still exist. This will occur when the director s duties in
monitoring have been compromised as they have connections with management. A way of
overcoming this problem is to hire directors who are independent to the company, as they are deemed
to be better monitors of managerial effort. As Mehran (1995:166) states, outside directors are more
independent of top management and thus better represent the interests of shareholders than do inside

Winterdance the author, Gary Paulsen describes his journey of running the Iditarod. Gary Paulsen

M!!Paulsen uses motifs to help understand and develop the theme. A motif is like a theme but is only a

Codes Of Ethics In Engineering
Ethics in Engineering
Ethics is the study of the characteristics of morals which involves the moral selections created by
individuals as they connect with other people. Engineers need to be mindful of ethics as they make

principles and the field of applied ethics which applies to the practice of engineering and which can
also be seen as the rules and standards governing the conduct of engineers in their positions as

The codes also show the duties, rights, and obligations of the affiliates of the profession. Clearly, the
codes of ethics are not broad enough to cover all possible ethical problems that an engineer might face
in his or her career. The codes provide opening points for creating ethical resolutions. It is crucial to
know what code of ethics does not implicate: a code of ethics is not a legal script, so a professional
can t be arrested and put in jail for defying its provisions. Although defying the code of ethics may end
up in removal from a professional community (ECSA), removal from a community normally will not
result in an inability to practice engineering. A code of ethics does not constitute new ethical and
moral principles; these principles are established for centuries of societal and human interactions.
Engineers were developed with the codes of ethics along with their respective professional
communities. In the beginning, code of ethics was related to standard business practices. Code of
ethics were updated and modified as the professional communities grew over the years. Code of ethics
can sometimes be very specific and detailed but sometimes it can be general and fairly

When visiting an exhibit space one of the first things a viewer sees is the area that the works are

Infant s Cognitive Development
An amazing experience to witness is the development and growth of a child. As they grow and learn,
you see them explore the world and all the things we have become accustomed too. While all children
grow differently, they all experience and go through the same stages; physical, cognitive, and socio
emotional development.
One of the first noticeable factors associated with the growth of an infant is how they develop
physically. Physical development involves the physical changes that take place with an infant; this
involves their facial features, which begin to take definition, and they begin to grow in length, and
weight. Naturally, infants are born with reflexes or natural body responses such as, sucking, blinking,
awareness, and grasping. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Love, support, and care are essential to a child brain to develop efficiently, a parent or giver must
provide constant interaction and attention. Cognitive development involves the way infants think,
perceive things, solve problems, and begin to understand the world around them. Imitation is a perfect
combination of both cognitive and socio emotional development; this is a way infants learn. As
caregivers interact with their infant and begin to express emotions, the infant will copy what they see
their caregiver do. Interaction like this plays a role in your infant s brain development. The
sensorimotor stage incorporates senses (sight, hearing, tasting, and feeling) with physical actions. An
infant becomes interested in bright colors, or movement, and begins to respond to an action such as a
smiling caregiver. This concept is similar to joint attention, when a caregiver points to an object, and
the infant becomes aware of it. While, these concepts are based on cognitive development, socio
emotional development also plays an important role. Object permanence is a mixture of both cognitive
and physical development. We know object permanence to be when an infant understands that an
object exists even though the object is not in sight. This concept is in close relation with physical
development, because object permanence involves the senses, which play a large role in physical

No Video Games in Education in Pamela Paul s Book Reading,...
Pamela Paul, author of Reading, Writing and Video Games , demonstrates that video games should not
be part of the education. Paul asserts there is no learning from playing video games and the education
should be the same old fashion. Paul observes the technology in classroom could be useful for the
students. However, she thinks the children should stick on reading and writing for learning. Finally,
Paul prefers to let the children play video games in free time rather than let them play video games for
education. Although, Paul idea of using technology in classroom and marketing education fun games

First, One implication of Paul treatment of saying there is a place for technology in the classroom is

Slavery Misconceptions
Ideologies, social patterns, social structures or cultural customs influences an individual s perception
of history. History is used as a building block for upcoming generations, thus making it difficult to
accept differences among societies.
In order to differentiate between the good or bad difference we must examine the period in which
certain practices were in play. Charon provides an excellent example. She states Racism did not
precede or cause slavery; it is clear from the historical record that it was the existence of slavery that
influenced the development of racism. Slavery was developed for economic gain, not because one
group was seen to be inferior (Charon, 2013, p. 138). The misconception that racism is the cause for

Heteronormativity In Walt Disney Films
This essay will identify and discuss heteronormativity and how it exists in our society. By making
reference to relevant sources such as Steyn van Zyl, the ideals of a heteronormative society will be
explored and how they have been shaped by our social and cultural context. A recently produced Walt
Disney film will be identified which portrays these standards of heteronormative gender structures. By
analysing the film and making reference to an independent source, the background and history of this
example will also be explored to determine if and why Disney films continually perpetuate
heteronormative discourses of gender using the media.

Heteronormative discourses which exist in society can be seen in examples involving media.
Advertisements, films and television all carry some form of heteronormative construct in their content
which is exposed to large audiences of men and woman of all ages. Such heteronormativity and
gender constructs perpetuated by the media will be explored using an example of a recently released
Walt Disney film called Frozen (Buck Lee 2013). As evident in many other films created by the
Disney franchise, the film s characters are made to depict a rich and exclusive heterosexual landscape

The film Frozen (Buck Lee 2013) follows a plot about a princess who goes on a journey with the help
of companions to find her estranged sister, whose magical powers that control ice and snow have

Infant Language Development Essay
The understanding of the world can be defined as the infant s notion of other s and the surrounding.
The question is whether infants are pre programmed with an initial concept of the world. Many
experiments conducted supported the idea that a new born infant holds an understanding of the world.
Cognitive development of a human being begins during the prenatal period. Consequently, infants do
have a comprehension of the world. Infants are not mindless in fact they are born with the ability to
identify voices, faces, interact and perform metacognition. An infant is preloaded with a system
designed to socially develop completely. They are able to discern their mother tongue since they have
gotten a earful during the prenatal period, similarly with their mothers voices. An experiment was
performed to prove the validity of this. Ninety one infants from French families were tested with
English and Japanese. The infants were on pacifiers that functioned to calculate the times sucked. The
French infants sucking rate when hearing English sentences were higher than hearing Japanese
sentences. Infants can identify a familiar language by listening to the tempo the specific language.

Essay on 3-D Displays in the Marking Process
The use of 3D display in the marketing process plays a big role in sales and brand awareness. To make
brand awareness, a company needs a way to draw attention to their product and set itself apart from
the rest. That brand want the consumer s eyes to fall on its product only. One way to showcase their
product is to use 3D display which will give them a marketing advantage over their rivals.
Why 3D display? 2D display is amazing at giving preview of the product before a customer before he

Thus boosting sales without the hassle of advertising because people will talk about what s new.
The placement of products is the key in order to be noticed. If the product is place strategically,
marketing for the product is going to be really effective. To do this, consider the layout of the space.
Space gives way for the people to see the product up close without distractions. Customers are
sometimes in a rush and when they go inside the store, they will have to find the product quickly. For
those customers, they need plenty of space to get to the product and quickly figure out if it is the
product they need without any interferences from other products. Placing items that are popular on the
shelf at an eye level is also important because that would be the first thing that customer sees. For
example, in case of a forgotten Valentine s day and the customer needs to buy a last minute gift, he or
she will drop into the store to get one. If the first thing the customer sees on his or her radar is a 3D
display of organized chocolate boxes or bears that says Happy Valentine Day or Be Mine then it
would be more likely that the consumer will head to that location first. With no time to browse, the
items on the eye level will be the one to go first. Pressed for time, the consumer would most likely
pick the item up. Depending on the outcome later on, the

The Three Strikes Law has been a subject of much debate since its introduction as a regulation in

law in the United States. The State of Texas was the first State to enact such a law in 1974.

This law is much stricter than prior laws. At first a person convicted of two serious felonies, such as
burglary of a residence and robbery, who then committed a third serious felony, such as another
robbery, would only have been sentenced to seven years. The Three Strikes Law has overcrowded the
prison system beyond capacity. The overcrowding has gotten to the point where courts are considering
ordering the prisons to release some of the prisoners with many of these inmates not having received
any rehabilitation or vocational training to prepare them for the outside world. Today, it costs about
$20,000 per year to confine a young person that is physically fit, but three Strikes laws would create a
huge, geriatric prison population that would be far more expensive to care for. The estimated cost of
maintaining an older prisoner is three times that required for a younger prisoner. It would cost about
$60,000 per year for an older prisoner. The cost might be worth it if older prisoners represented a
danger to society. But experts tell us that age is the most powerful crime reducer. Most crimes are
committed by men between the ages of 15 and 24.

Antidepressants And The Monoamine Theory Of Depression
1. Introduction
1.1. Depression: definition, symptoms and classification
Depression is defined by the DSM IV as a mental disorder characterized by sustained depression of
mood, anhedonia, sleep and appetite disturbances, feelings of worthlessness, guilt, and hopelessness.
Depressive symptoms such as the mere inability to experience pleasure and loss of energy persisting
for longer than two weeks are usually enough to indicate an affective disorder (Hirschfeld 2014).
There are significant variations in presentations and diagnosis criteria, but regardless of the
classification of depressive states (Major (Unipolar), Bipolar, Dysthymia, Atypical, SAD,
Postpartum), it is agreed upon that pharmacological interventions are sometimes required: to alleviate
debilitating symptoms and improve patients quality of life. The interest in depression medications
reflects the gravity of the disease i.e. its ability to psychologically impair lives and lead to suicide.

Federally legalizing marijuana would bring many new jobs and a very big new source of tax income.
Colorado s marijuana legalization is quickly turning the state into one of the most prosperous places in
the country. Not only has Colorado projected marijuana sales to be a billion dollar industry, but in
January of 2014 alone, the state pulled in over $3.5 million in tax revenue from legal pot sales. If that
trend continues, the state will enjoy an additional $40 million in tax revenue in the first year of
legalization. But that s not all you know those dismal unemployment figures plaguing the nation? Not
in states where pot is legal. Colorado is reporting 10,000 new jobs, all from the legalization of both
recreational and medical marijuana. 10,000 new jobs to each state in the United States would easily
improve the market, less unemployment. The state is now enjoying one of the lowest unemployment
rates in the nation 6% which is the lowest it has been since the recession started. So much for those
old sayings about pot heads being lazy. That s an additional 10,000 people in a labor force out
working, instead of collecting unemployment. That s good for everyone. Marijuana tax income in
Colorado and Washington have exceeded estimates made beforehand. Enforcing thousands of new
jobs, making lots of new money, helping the medical world, and reducing crime rate in the United
States it sounds as if marijuana should already be legal

Effects Of The Global Warming On The World Economy
Since the dawn of civilization, mankind has sought to transform, control, and dominate the earth, so as
to profit from its fruits. Now, thousands of years later, it has come to light that humans may be solely
responsible for irreversible damage done to the earth and a march for justice and reparation has
ensued. As a member of the EU and a major contributor to the world economy, France has seen
considerable distress from the effects of climate change, economically, socially and environmentally
and has pledged to alleviate the strains of climate change placed on the world. Over the past decade,
France has faced several challenges, stemming directly from climate change. Recent reports show that
the Chartreuse Mountains has seen a 50% ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To say the least, the environmental impact of climate change at its current rate would disastrous.
Perhaps even more dangerous, however, are the economic implications of such environmental change.
Wine is France s second biggest crop, generating around 9 billion Euros and is their number one
export (Greenpeace, 2009). Furthermore, the wine sector represents almost 200,000 jobs. Increased
temperatures due to climate change would prove to be catastrophic. For example, in 2003, a heat wave
hit Burgundy, causing wine production to fall in over 30% (Greenpeace, 2009). This kind of
destructive heat could become a norm if current trends are not reversed. Beyond heat, climate change
also poses risks such a new diseases, increased erosion and flooding and rotting of grapes due to
increased CO2. These factors would subsequently destroy one of France s largest economic sectors
and exports. France also fears that climate change could severely handicap their tourism sector, which
makes up 6% of their GDP (Reuters, 2009). As sea levels rise, coastal erosion will become an
increasing problem. Currently, coastal erosion affects 20% of France s tourist area (Reuters, 2009).
Furthermore, as the Alps see a decrease in snow, winter resorts will suffer a great loss of revenue.
Currently, France is the world s #1 most popular tourist destination by number of visitors, but as
climate change continues to transform their climate, officials say that it will be

My Wish By Rascal Flatts And I Hope You Dance
Success and happiness is something everyone should want in their life. I m sure most people are
familiar with the songs My wish by Rascal Flatts and I hope you dance by Lee Ann Womack. Both of
these songs are saying to give confidence and never give up on the the things you love. I Hope You
Dance and My Wish are very alike in a sense that they are both about going somewhere in life and
being happy, but there are a few differences that are hard to recognize.
My Wish is a song recorded by Rascal Flatts, written by Jeffery Steele and Steve Robson. The song
was written for one of Steele s four daughters. What I m getting out of this song, and what I believe
many others do too is to live every minute like it s your last. I hope the days come easy and the
moments pass slow the very first line is about someone who s going somewhere in life. And each road
leads you where you want to go, (line 2) This is saying that hopefully the path you re taking in life is
the one you want to fulfill. And if you re faced with a choice and you have to choose, I hope you
choose the one that means the most to you (line 3 4) What Steele is saying that if one has to make a
choice, it should be the best choice for that person, not what someone else wants you to do.
Your dreams stay big and your worries stay small (line 1, verse 2) Steele is saying to keep your goals
in mind, work towards them and don t let your worries get in the way. The next line You never need to

Virtuous Women In The Good Earth
In the book The Good Earth Olan could often be compared to a Virtuous woman. They both share the
quality of being faithful to their relationships. A quality they do not share is the Virtuous woman
makes enough to live off of while Olan is poor. Another quality they do not share is Olan s husband
treats her different than how virtuous woman s husband treats her. Throughout the story The Good
Earth , Olan could often be compared and contrasted to the qualities of a virtuous woman. One of the
qualities that both a virtuous woman and Olan share is they are both faithful to their relationships. The
virtuous woman will do a man good and not evil all the days of her life . Olan s husband married for
the second time, although it may have been culturally accepted, she never did the same to him. Even
though Wang Lung decided to get a second wife, Olan still prepares for the meals and cares ... Show

After Olan found the pearls they had some money that they could use. Wang Lung used some of this
money to marry a second wife who then just wore the pearls. A virtuous woman s husband doth safely
trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. Wang Lung never listened to the advice that she
gave, or thanked her for the stuff she did. Since Olan found the pearls, Wang Lung used her for that
and he treated her in a poorly way; no person should be treated in such way, they shall be treated with
respect. Throughout the story The Good Earth , Olan could often be compared and contrasted to the
qualities of a virtuous woman. Olan and a virtuous woman both treat their husbands well, no matter
the circumstances. The virtuous woman is a positive influence to others on how we should treat the
poor. Olan s husband should have treated her like a virtuous woman s husband does. Throughout the
story The Good Earth , they both have similarities and differences but they are both strong and great

The Catholic Church And The Church
The Catholic Church as we know it is much different than that of the past. Love, acceptance,
forgiveness, giving, and tradition are all things that come to mind when the words Catholic Church are
heard. If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s what comes to mind when thinking about the
Catholic Church, their answer would have been very different. With the exception of a few countries,
there is a separation of the church and state in todays government. In our current state of government,
the church has no say in the justice system or decisions made by the government. There is no priest or
king who rules over the country or attends government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the
case. The Catholic Church had great influence on the government. The church actually was the
government in some countries who operated under a theocratic ruling. With God being the ultimate
ruler, the Priest or King was the next in power. The royals are supposedly Gods chosen ones. They are
the closest to him and everyone else is below them. The church had power over the military, who had
access to education, individuals socioeconomic class, the laws, and almost anything else one could
think of.1 The ultimate goal of the church was to convert anyone who was not Christian into a
Christian as a way of gaining power. The inquisition ordered conquistadores to find and conquer lands
which could be used to cultivate Spanish wealth and spread Catholicism.2 In this sense, the church s

Hagen M, Ashraf M, Kim I, Weintraub N, Tang Y (2018) Effective regeneration of dystrophic muscle
using autologous iPSC derived progenitors with CRISPR Cas9 mediated precise correction. Medical
Hypotheses 110:97 100
PURPOSE. The study provides information on how CRISPR/Cas 9 protein technology can be used to
correct the dystrophin gene mutation of iPSC (induced pluripotent stem cells) myogenic progenitor
cells.
METHODS. The study plans to use CRISPR/Cas9 technology in order to edit our genes through full
exonal correction. This will result in full length dystrophin proteins. Next, the quality of the IPSC
derived myogenic progenitor cells will be tested through treatment of the DMD (Duchenne muscular
dystrophy) phenotype. Skin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Molecular Medicine 121:923 929
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study is to examine how CRISPR genome editing technology can be
used to change heart muscle dystrophin expression and enable proper muscle function in dystrophic
mice. Dystrophic cardiomyopathy is the most common cause of death in patients with DMD
(Duchenne muscular dystrophy).
METHODS. SaCas9 (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat associated 9 form
staphylococcus aureus) were clustered together with RNA into a vector (adeno associated virus
vector). The vector was then inserted into the mdx/Utr+/ baby mice.
RESULTS. CRISPR mediated genome editing was able to cut out the mutated exon 23 found in DMD
mice. Immunofluorescence was used to demonstrate that the dystrophin protein expression was indeed
reestablished. Approximately 40% of dystrophin protein expression was regained. Muscle function as
well as expression was also reestablished. Cardiac muscle contractility improved significantly.
KEY RELEVANCE. This information which the study provides is useful because it exhibits
confirmation that CRISPR mediated genome editing can be used as a possible method for repairing
dystrophic cardiomyopathy anatomically as well as for other genetic diseases.

The Suburbs Analysis
On the 22nd of November 2010, critically acclaimed director and screenwriter Jonze (2011) released
the music video for the Arcade Fire s The Suburbs , the albums titular song. A long shot of a gang of
adolescents cycling lackadaisically through the streets of a suburban setting accompany the
introduction to the song. The song begins will a nonchalant harpsi piano. The simple and
preponderantly major chord structure rings pleasantly through the verse, but contains a slight
dissonance on the second and third chords; Am and E. This dissonance gives is used to great effect to
make the listener feel slightly apprehensive. The slow tempo of the cycling reflects the songs 118
BPM timing respectively. One of the youthful figures has donned a ... Show more content on

to recollect their youth, but alas; it is becoming much more laborious to trace their memories. It can
also be perceived that over time, rebellion becomes more and more meaningless. Upon the arrival of
the second verse, a droning slide guitar sound, drenched in reverb permeates the ears, almost
reminiscent of a siren. Butler and Chassagne s (2010) Kids wanna be so hard opens the second verse.
The imagery shows the youths play fighting with air guns, and at one point, one of the teenagers
receives some hard looking blows to the chest from a friend s shoe, but remains smiling. At pubescent
ages, youth culture shows that people want to be seen as an adult and grown up. Elkind (2007) states

  • 2. The Importance Of Nation-State Policy Along with the twenty first century tagged an interconnected and globalized world, consociated by instantaneous worldwide communication and the free dissemination of information. With this new era of technology, economic policies of nation states have become so interdependent that most nation state economies would be crippled without their respective international trading partners. As such, one may wonder if an introspective national policy is appropriate, as argued for by the source. For example, one may contend that international cooperation inevitably results in unequitable compromise, with the more powerful nation states forcing developing countries into partisan trade deals. This argument, however, does not take into account the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, by stating that individuals, in general, do not appreciate others telling [them] how to deal with ... the seal hunt , the speaker alludes to the fact that each nation state understands its own eccentricities best, and that others cannot empathize because they simply do not have such resources, such as seals. A nation state that chooses to remain isolated from the world suffers technologically. A prominent example of the detrimental effects of isolationism and the beneficial effects of international trade can be observed through the period and abolition of Sakoku, better known as the isolationist foreign policy of Japan. During isolation, the Japanese were only scarcely aware of the technological advances in Western technology. As such, when U.S. Commodore Matthew Perry s black ships arrived, the Japanese were shocked at just how advanced the technology was, especially in shipbuilding and weaponry. Rather than closing off its borders and potentially suffering the same fate as China, the Meiji government decided to rapidly Westernize the nation, in terms of technology and in things like clothing and eating habits, in an attempt to convince the Western powers that the Japanese were their equals. By the time the Meiji rule concluded, Japan had a highly educated population and an established and rapidly growing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of Norm Violation On The Perception Of Power Investigation of the Effects of Norm Violation On the Perception of Power Power governs our society. A powerful person is one that has authority over others. This sense of authority relieves them of the restrictions a person of lesser power might face, allowing them to make and break rules. The four studies conducted in Breaking the Rules to Rise to Power: How Norm Violators Gain Power in the Eyes of Others by Gerben A. Van Kleef, Astrid C. Homan, Catrin Finkenauer, Seval Gu ̈ndemir and Eftychia Stamkou, explores the concept of power and transgression. Such that if powerful people are expected to act against the norm, then acting against the norm should make people seem more powerful. The overall study focused on the relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Van Kleef et al., 2011) The study examined the response of 25 females and 15 men with a mean age of 19.53 on two scales. The first scale was a 25 question questionnaire consisting of adjectives that described social impressions of power and norm violation, which was then rated on a scale from 1 to 7 with 1 being definitely not and 7 being definitely. The second scale asked participants to indicate the extent to which the power statements This person is influential ; . . . has a leadership position ; . . . is in charge of subordinates ; . . . enjoys considerable authority (Van Kleef et al., 2011), applied to the person depicted in the scenario. Results and Discussions Participants rated the actor that took the cup of coffee from the personnel with a higher norm violation score than the actor that went to the bathroom. This indicated that they recognized that the behavior of the actor that took the coffee cup was wrong. Despite that, the participants rated that actor to be more powerful than the actor that went to the bathroom on both scales. This gives the first evidence that violating the norm influences the perception of power (Van Kleef et al., 2011). Study 2: The Bookkeeper Study 2 employed a different type of norm violation to examine if the affects show in study 1 would repeat. One hundred and sixty nine participants of unspecified age and sex were asked to read a scenario about a bookkeeper that follows the rule and one that does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lecture 5 Articles vs Constitution The Articles of Confederation constructed a national government that had military power, elected officials, power to declare war, and even the power to manage indian relations. It took many complaints, and conflicts to ratify the Articles of Confederation. It has a certain structure, and many weaknesses. On the other hand, the Constitution was also opposed, but accepted as well, and it is ratified. A federal constitution was first proposed on June 12, 1176, when the Second Continental Congress called for a thirteen man committee to draw it. It became known as the articles of confederation the following November, and was turned in to the states for its approval. John Dickinson was the main contributor to the Articles of confederation. He called it a League of Friendship .The Articles took 5 years to get approved by all 13 states, and were ratified until March 1, 1781. The length taken to ratify the Articles was seen as a lack in common unity. There was complaint that states with land could use their tracts to pay money for common cause. It seemed logical that the western area be given to the central government to get rid of land for common benefit . There was a problem with landed estates, which had land west of the Appalachians, and the landless states, which boundaries were defined. It became an even bigger problem with the proclamation line of 1763. The landless states said that land that was debated about should be shared by all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After analyzing both Google and Bing s search tools, I ve come to the conclusion that Google just has more to offer. The tool that stands out the most and gave the best results was the Verbatim option under All results . When using it, Google will only display results specific to the user s search term or phrase. For example, when I search Gerrymandering , no results containing synonyms, similar terms, previously used websites, or words from the same stem will appear in my results. When searching for a phrase such as Gerrymandering in Maryland , the verbatim tool will only show the user results with that exact phrase. No results containing those words separated should appear. Another great search tool Google has to offer is the Advanced search , found in the upper right hand corner under the options button. This tool offers the user many ways to narrow down their search to find the the exact result their looking for. Some Advanced search allows users to search by language, region, last updated, file type, usage rights, site or domain name, where the phrase appears on the site, ranging numbers, and exact words or phrases. This tool is extremely beneficial to a searcher who knows exactly what they re looking for, but can t find it in a general search. Pros And Cons Of Natural Gas Fracking Fracking is a relatively new way of retrieving oil and natural gases from shale rock and other natural resources that reside in the earth s core, using air and water together. Thus far it has been proven to be a quicker alternative to oil well drilling compared to conventional drilling methods. Oil and gas companies are still learning about the side effects of this elaborate process day by day. Despite a few side effects that have been discovered within the process, fracking has been very efficient and beneficial. As stated in, Pros and Cons of Fracking: 5 Key Issues , Fracking saves lives, and it saves them right now and not at some indiscernible date well into the future . The nation is shifting towards electricity generated by natural gas over the past ten years 81 percent of new electricity capacity has been gas fired and state governments are playing regulatory catch up with the drilling technology s rapid expansion to meet this burgeoning demand . These harmful effects include; water droughts, increased pollution, the spread of toxins, and possible negative influence on local economies. Water droughts because of the fracking process are caused by using up to approximately one hundred times more water than previous drilling methods. This means that gradually less and less of the world where drilling is active or was active will have the ability to attain non chemical induced water. The article, List of Pros and Cons of Fracking published by Occupy Theory states that, Anywhere from 10 to 40 percent of fracking waste water flows back to the original drilling surface (http://occupytheory.org/list of pros and cons of fracking/) Hydraulic fracturing causes pollution in several different aspects. Oil and gas companies are not required to provide a list of chemicals used in the process which causes those in the areas where drilling is present to not be able to adapt correctly to these toxins. According to research, a few of the chemicals that have been found present in fracking include; benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene. These three chemicals are known to the scientific community to cause harmful effects on the health of people. Headquartered in Bologna, Italy, Ducati is owned by Audi through its Italian subsidiary Lamborghini. In 1926 Antonio Cavaliers Ducati and his three sons, Adriano, Marcello, and Bruno cavaliers Ducati; founded Society Scientific Radio Brevet Ducati in Bologna to produce vacuum tubes, condensers and other radio components. In 1935 they had become successful enough to enable construction of a new factory in the Borg Pan gale area of the city. Production was maintained during World War II, despite the Ducati factory being a repeated target of Allied bombing. Farinelli began developing a small pushrod engine for mounting on bicycles. Barely a month after the official liberation of Italy in 1944, SIATA announced its intention to sell this engine, called the Cucciolo (Italian for puppy, in reference to the distinctive exhaust sound) to the public. The first Cucciolos were available alone, to be mounted on standard bicycles, by the buyer; however, businessmen soon bought the little engines in quantity, and offered complete motorized bicycle units for sale. In 1950, after more than 200,000 Cucciolos had been sold, in collaboration with SIATA, the Ducati firm finally offered its own Cucciolo based motorcycle. A famous game that followed a clear and simple pattern was Mario, where the player was given the task of searching for the princess in successively empty castles. Another example of an early game is Space Invaders, where the goal of the game was to destroy multiple rows of pixelated aliens. Because storytelling techniques were primitive in the early years, the player was not rewarded with cutscenes that drove the plot forward; instead he got points that were accumulated a total score. However, with the passing of time, technology and the gaming audience evolved and matured, creating new opportunities for the medium to expand its horizons and develop new storytelling techniques. Following the significant evolutions in technology, video games have adopted these advancements and continued to become more elaborate, especially with the use of motion capture, which allows technicians to capture and record the live performance of actors that are applied to the 3D models of the virtual character. This is only one element that makes the products of this medium so appealing and immersive for the player. • 9. Thematic Comparison Of The Glass Menagerie And A Streetcar... Liane Walls THTR 475C Dr. Ramirez Thematic Comparison of The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire Tennessee Williams is regarded as a pioneering playwright of American theatre. Through his plays, Williams addresses important issues that no other writers of his time were willing to discuss, including addiction, substance abuse, and mental illness. Recurring themes in William s works include the dysfunctional family, obsessive and absent mothers and fathers, and emotionally damaged women. These characters were inspired by his experiences with his own family. These characters appear repeatedly in his works with their own recurring themes. Through The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams presents the similar thematic elements of illusion, escape, and fragility between the two plays, proving that although similar, the themes within these plays are not simply recycled, as the differences in their respective texts highlight the differences of the human condition. The characters of A Streetcar Named Desire and The Glass Menagerie are bound to their own hold on illusions as a means of coping. In A Streetcar Named Desire, the character of Blanche exemplifies the hold of illusion when she says, I don t want realism. I want magic! Blanche exemplifies the idea of delusion as a means of coping. Government Support In Higher Education Once again what a timely discussion question: Tuesday, January 17, 2017, Betsy DeVos Education Secretary Confirmation Hearing gave the country a look at how politics play a major role in higher education. The background of government support for higher education and students can be dated back to the 1944 G.I. Bill, the National Defense Education Act of 1958, and the Higher Education Act of 1965. According to the Student Aid Alliance (2013), the Higher Education Act of 1965 formed the basis for the current federal student aid system, embodied the principle that all qualified students should be able to attend college, regardless of their financial means . Kraft and Furlong (2013) suggest that one of the major arguments for supporting education generally is the belief that it is the great equalizer within U.S. society (p. 369). There are constantly two sides of a contention. Here in the United States, individuals trust that education is the one of the best way to keep up developing nations. It s a known idea that advanced education measures up to higher compensations and more open doors. In any case, the issue is that the normal cost of advanced education is more than an individual can bear the cost of for a long time at a state college. Along these lines, many believe that the government should offset the cost of college (Sakamoto and Chapman, 2011). While there are others that trust that the legislature shouldn t pay for school. Ziguras and McBurnie (2015) uncover that college educations are discretionary and it takes a family and a group to make the correct circumstance for students to go to college through various scholarship opportunities and student loans. The authors additionally propose that unfortunate, students through a byproduct of human nature, the individuals who get a free ride are likewise less inclined to esteem the education as opposed to working for it. • 12. An Analysis of A Forest Hymn by William Cullen Bryant A Forest Hymn by William Cullen Bryant The poem A Forest Hymn talk of the origin of all the nature that surrounds humanity and the activities of these naturally found objects. It gives an indication that the source of all the nature that we see is God and He is the one who controls their actions in all aspects and as to that, the poet implores the entire humanity to humble itself before the creator and controller of nature and worship him, not necessarily in houses or in crowds as both of these are weak and cannot stand before the might of the creator, but in natural settings. This poem is therefore widely a statement of pantheism, which is a position that god and nature are the same. According to Matt Slick, (2011) the word pantheism is derived from Greek words Pan meaning all and the other section from theos meaning God. This then implies that all nature found in the universe, from the stars, mountains, planets, wind, rain, storms are all part of what God is hence pantheists contest that God is all and all nature is part of God. This should not be confused with the Christian perspective that God created all nature but these are inferior to him and are in no way equal to him. This poem is generally a pantheism statement exemplified since it equates nature to be having the same powers as God. The poet indeed starts off by stating clearly that The groves were God s first temples. Ere man learned an indication that if man is inferior to God, yet God used nature ... However, this is not always the case as both parties have different objectives. The difference in interests between shareholders and managers derives from the separation of ownership and control in a corporation (Berk and DeMarzo, 2011: 921). Whereas shareholders are interested in maximising their own wealth, managers may have more personal interests which differ to that of the shareholders. Downs and Monsen (no date, cited in Chin, Cooley and Monsen, 1968:435) suggest that managers self interest lies in maximising their life time income and that such self interest will be congruent with profit maximisation for the firm only in special cases . This conflict between both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it may be a simple solution, there are costs involved. Berk and DeMarzo (2011:922) state that as no one shareholder has an incentive to bear these costs, as the benefits are then divided between all shareholders, they instead elect a board of directors to monitor the managers on their behalf. The directors duties include hiring the executive team, approving major investments and acquisitions, and dismissing executives if necessary (Berk and DeMarzo, 2011: 922). The level of monitoring required differs across firms and is based on the magnitude of the incentive gap between principal and agent (Beatty and Zajac, 1994, cited in Westphal and Zajac, 1994:125). However, the main factor affecting the level of monitoring provided is the cost, otherwise all rational firms would monitor maximally, irrespective of the strength of incentive compensation contracts or other factors (Westphal and Zajac, 1994:125). Although the board of directors are hired to keep a close eye on top management, the agency problem may still exist. This will occur when the director s duties in monitoring have been compromised as they have connections with management. A way of overcoming this problem is to hire directors who are independent to the company, as they are deemed to be better monitors of managerial effort. As Mehran (1995:166) states, outside directors are more independent of top management and thus better represent the interests of shareholders than do inside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the first noticeable factors associated with the growth of an infant is how they develop physically. • 28. Infant Language Development Essay The understanding of the world can be defined as the infant s notion of other s and the surrounding. The question is whether infants are pre programmed with an initial concept of the world. Many experiments conducted supported the idea that a new born infant holds an understanding of the world. Cognitive development of a human being begins during the prenatal period. Consequently, infants do have a comprehension of the world. Infants are not mindless in fact they are born with the ability to identify voices, faces, interact and perform metacognition. An infant is preloaded with a system designed to socially develop completely. They are able to discern their mother tongue since they have gotten a earful during the prenatal period, similarly with their mothers voices. An experiment was performed to prove the validity of this. Ninety one infants from French families were tested with English and Japanese. The infants were on pacifiers that functioned to calculate the times sucked. The French infants sucking rate when hearing English sentences were higher than hearing Japanese sentences. Sources under Robert the Bruce came to acknowledge the bias against William Wallace similar to how the English pinned him as a robber, ruffian, and cruel leader of Independence. This notion of the Bruce prejudices and censorship add to the negative perceptions toward the mythology of Scottish leaders and their control over literature at the time of their reign. A series of military victories between 1310 and 1314 won Bruce a majority of control over Scotland. The Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 against the Edward II English forces solidified his position as the rightful king of Scotland. The military victories fueled more intervention in other states on the British Isles with the boosted moral of the Scottish soldiers for independence from England and other monarchical ... It would bring one of the nation s largest cash crops under the rule of law, changing many things in the criminal, medicine, job/tax world. The criminalization of marijuana used disproportionately harms young people and people of color, sponsors massive levels of violence and corruption, and fails to curb youth access. There were 658,000 arrests for marijuana possession in 2012, according to F.B.I. figures, compared with 256,000 for cocaine, heroin and their derivatives. With marijuana being regulated and distributed by the government, it would also bring many job opportunities to the market. Federal and local governments would then achieve an amass amount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Federally legalizing marijuana would bring many new jobs and a very big new source of tax income. Colorado s marijuana legalization is quickly turning the state into one of the most prosperous places in the country. Not only has Colorado projected marijuana sales to be a billion dollar industry, but in January of 2014 alone, the state pulled in over $3.5 million in tax revenue from legal pot sales. If that trend continues, the state will enjoy an additional $40 million in tax revenue in the first year of legalization. But that s not all you know those dismal unemployment figures plaguing the nation? Not in states where pot is legal. Colorado is reporting 10,000 new jobs, all from the legalization of both recreational and medical marijuana. 10,000 new jobs to each state in the United States would easily improve the market, less unemployment. The state is now enjoying one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation 6% which is the lowest it has been since the recession started. So much for those old sayings about pot heads being lazy. That s an additional 10,000 people in a labor force out working, instead of collecting unemployment. That s good for everyone. Marijuana tax income in Colorado and Washington have exceeded estimates made beforehand. Enforcing thousands of new jobs, making lots of new money, helping the medical world, and reducing crime rate in the United States it sounds as if marijuana should already be legal ... Now, thousands of years later, it has come to light that humans may be solely responsible for irreversible damage done to the earth and a march for justice and reparation has ensued. As a member of the EU and a major contributor to the world economy, France has seen considerable distress from the effects of climate change, economically, socially and environmentally and has pledged to alleviate the strains of climate change placed on the world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To say the least, the environmental impact of climate change at its current rate would disastrous. Perhaps even more dangerous, however, are the economic implications of such environmental change. Wine is France s second biggest crop, generating around 9 billion Euros and is their number one export (Greenpeace, 2009). Furthermore, the wine sector represents almost 200,000 jobs. Increased temperatures due to climate change would prove to be catastrophic. For example, in 2003, a heat wave hit Burgundy, causing wine production to fall in over 30% (Greenpeace, 2009). This kind of destructive heat could become a norm if current trends are not reversed. Beyond heat, climate change also poses risks such a new diseases, increased erosion and flooding and rotting of grapes due to increased CO2. These factors would subsequently destroy one of France s largest economic sectors and exports. France also fears that climate change could severely handicap their tourism sector, which makes up 6% of their GDP (Reuters, 2009). As sea levels rise, coastal erosion will become an increasing problem. Currently, coastal erosion affects 20% of France s tourist area (Reuters, 2009). Furthermore, as the Alps see a decrease in snow, winter resorts will suffer a great loss of revenue. Currently, France is the world s #1 most popular tourist destination by number of visitors, but as climate change continues to transform their climate, officials say that it will be ... I m sure most people are familiar with the songs My wish by Rascal Flatts and I hope you dance by Lee Ann Womack. Both of these songs are saying to give confidence and never give up on the the things you love. I Hope You Dance and My Wish are very alike in a sense that they are both about going somewhere in life and being happy, but there are a few differences that are hard to recognize. My Wish is a song recorded by Rascal Flatts, written by Jeffery Steele and Steve Robson. The song was written for one of Steele s four daughters. What I m getting out of this song, and what I believe many others do too is to live every minute like it s your last. I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow the very first line is about someone who s going somewhere in life. And each road leads you where you want to go, (line 2) This is saying that hopefully the path you re taking in life is the one you want to fulfill. And if you re faced with a choice and you have to choose, I hope you choose the one that means the most to you (line 3 4) What Steele is saying that if one has to make a choice, it should be the best choice for that person, not what someone else wants you to do. Your dreams stay big and your worries stay small (line 1, verse 2) Steele is saying to keep your goals in mind, work towards them and don t let your worries get in the way. • 46. The Catholic Church And The Church The Catholic Church as we know it is much different than that of the past. Love, acceptance, forgiveness, giving, and tradition are all things that come to mind when the words Catholic Church are heard. If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s what comes to mind when thinking about the Catholic Church, their answer would have been very different. With the exception of a few countries, there is a separation of the church and state in todays government. In our current state of government, the church has no say in the justice system or decisions made by the government. There is no priest or king who rules over the country or attends government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the case. The Catholic Church had great influence on the government. The church actually was the government in some countries who operated under a theocratic ruling. With God being the ultimate ruler, the Priest or King was the next in power. The royals are supposedly Gods chosen ones. They are the closest to him and everyone else is below them. The church had power over the military, who had access to education, individuals socioeconomic class, the laws, and almost anything else one could think of.1 The ultimate goal of the church was to convert anyone who was not Christian into a Christian as a way of gaining power. The inquisition ordered conquistadores to find and conquer lands which could be used to cultivate Spanish wealth and spread Catholicism.2 In this sense, the church s power ... Medical Hypotheses 110:97 100 PURPOSE. The study provides information on how CRISPR/Cas 9 protein technology can be used to correct the dystrophin gene mutation of iPSC (induced pluripotent stem cells) myogenic progenitor cells. METHODS. The study plans to use CRISPR/Cas9 technology in order to edit our genes through full exonal correction. This will result in full length dystrophin proteins. Next, the quality of the IPSC derived myogenic progenitor cells will be tested through treatment of the DMD (Duchenne muscular dystrophy) phenotype. Skin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Molecular Medicine 121:923 929 PURPOSE. The purpose of this study is to examine how CRISPR genome editing technology can be used to change heart muscle dystrophin expression and enable proper muscle function in dystrophic mice. Dystrophic cardiomyopathy is the most common cause of death in patients with DMD (Duchenne muscular dystrophy). METHODS. SaCas9 (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat associated 9 form staphylococcus aureus) were clustered together with RNA into a vector (adeno associated virus vector). The vector was then inserted into the mdx/Utr+/ baby mice. RESULTS. CRISPR mediated genome editing was able to cut out the mutated exon 23 found in DMD mice. Immunofluorescence was used to demonstrate that the dystrophin protein expression was indeed reestablished. Approximately 40% of dystrophin protein expression was regained. Muscle function as well as expression was also reestablished. Cardiac muscle contractility improved significantly. KEY RELEVANCE. This information which the study provides is useful because it exhibits confirmation that CRISPR mediated genome editing can be used as a possible method for repairing dystrophic cardiomyopathy anatomically as well as for other genetic diseases.
