Essay On Veterans Rights
The issue that has been addressed throughout this study is veteran s rights. The issue of veteran s
rights is still being pursued and is near and dear to me. Not only am I a veteran, but I come from
a long line of men and women who have proudly worn the uniform in defense of our nation.
Between the mindset of the American public, to the cases presented before Congress, this is an
ongoing dilemma. Caring for our brothers and sisters in arms is the socially responsible thing to
do. However, many roadblocks must be torn down before this can come to fruition.
Problems Faced
What some the symptoms of veteran s rights look like in regards to how they are addressed, are in
multitude. They range in length from health care, education, to basic family needs. Overall, the
American public does not pay attention to veterans, and this is mostly in part because the issues
that plague our veterans are often deemed irrelevant by the average ... Show more content on

Once I have a wealth of research on my side, then I can not only help to inform the populace but
either create or join an existing social movement, like the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP, 2017)
and others, that promotes the goals in which I wish to achieve. Working directly with veterans and
their families while bringing the information to the populace has so far been the most effective.
Petitions have been generated and sent to Senators, and because of the slow, but steady fight, many
in Congress are seeing that there needs to be changes put in place.
The objectives for the desired outcomes is to ensure that every veteran, regardless of which war,
receives the proper care and treatment of their ailments. This is to include housing our homeless
veterans in complexes in which they will feel safe, yet give them the freedom they need to work on
their journey of healing. In the process, the veterans families that are affected must not be forgotten

Planning And Marketing Of The Medical Center
Environmental Scan
Rush University Medical Center came into existence before Chicago even officially became a city.
The Medical Center felt secure in its position in the marketplace. Other than a few program
advertisements the Medical Center did not take part in strategic planning or marketing. Rush fell
from the number 1 medical center to the fourth in consumer surveys (Long, 2014). They were in
desperate need for strategic planning, marketing, and assessments. In order to develop new business
ideas, financial models were needed to assure members of the board and hospital administrators that
the organization needed strategic planning and marketing to increase admissions. Through
marketing research the first item the organization decided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The website improvements included physician directory, health information, and a referral and
consultation guide for physicians. The website was easier to navigate and they have increased their
marketing and information technology budgets. Rush is continuously revamping its strategic plan
to keep up with the ever changing healthcare industry. The hospital has produced many successful
results due to their marketing efforts, Rush saw call volume to its physician referral line nearly
double. There also was a 20 percent increase in first time visitors to the Web site (Long, 2014).
Rush went from fourth to third place in the consumer survey (Long, 2014) Admissions rose 2.3
percent from the prior year and outpatient volume grew 10 percent (Long, 2014). The marketing
campaign of 2003 returned Rush to profits (Long, 2014).
Competitive Strategic Plan
There are several steps to strategic plan. Interviews should be conducted with stakeholders to
develop action plan. An environmental scan should be performed. A review of the history of the
organizations structure, resources, strengths, and weaknesses should be evaluated as well as their
major competitors. The organization should find opportunities expand their market. Finally, a
strategy needs to be developed for the organization to compete in the marketplace (McDermott

Devaluation of the Feminine
Devaluation of the Feminine
The devaluation of women is built into the culture all through industry and popular culture. When
a baby is born he/she is like a blank slate to be written on by his/her surroundings, including family
and society. For example, I am a Christian, however I was not born a Christian, going to Church
and being taught about the Bible by my parents and teachers brought me to identify myself as a
Christian. There are certain gender roles that are set up in societies that limit males and females to
certain behaviors they are supposed to portray. The media in many cultures, particularly American
culture, continues make the devaluation of females more socially acceptable .

Women are put on display as sexual spectacles. An example of a woman who was put on display
for public entertainment is Saarjite Baartman, commonly known as Hottentot Venus. She was a
South African woman whose body was exhibited at circuses, museums, and zoos. The spectacle
of Baartman s body continued even after her death at the age of 26. Pseudo scientists interested
in investigating in primitive sexuality , dissected and cast her genitals (and buttocks) in wax.
They concluded that her oversized genitals were physical proof of African Women s primitive
sexual appetite (Thompson). This is an example of the way a woman s body was used to make a
profit, similar to the way the women in the videos are exploited for ratings. As a black woman, I
have begun to pick up the common theme that Kilbourne pointed out; black females are often
depicted as animalistic, purely sexual, and non human.
In movies, many women are given roles that require them to be nude for sex scenes. If they are
not interested, either they are rejected for the role, even if they are very good actresses, or they
are offered more money until they agree to do the scene(s). Only the most beautiful actresses
with the most perfect bodies are asked to do nude scenes. If the actress that gets the role does not
have a fit body, they are given a body double that does have an ideal body. Therefore, actresses that

Jerusalem And The West Bank
Research In Jerusalem and the West Bank, there are many holy sites that are considered to be
sacred to the Christian faith, Jewish faith as well as the Islamic faith. Those sites include: The
Dome of the Rock, Al Aqsa Mosque, The Western (Wailing) Wall, and many others. The land of
Jerusalem and the West Bank is also thought to be sacred in their own rights due to the history of
who has occupied these areas in the past. Each one of these sites is seen as very sacred in the
international world. Recent acts of violence have plagued this area. These acts have led to
deaths on all sides. There needs to be a protection of access to these sites for all people that see it
as sacred: The Muslims, The Christians, and also The Jewish population. This site is in a lot of
danger because of its location, of the ambiguity about who is in control of which part. There s a
lot of violence going on in the West Bank. There are thousands of Palestinians in the streets now
that there have seen so many acts of violence. The recent reporting s feature single independent
attacks from young Palestinian men. In the past, there have been more collective acts of violence,
but now a day there are single independent person s. Due to these actions of violence, the citizens
have continued to riot. This has probed police interaction with the protesting rioters and again more
violence. A Political solution that many experts believe is needed in order to correctly combat this

Analysis Of The Jungle By Upton Sinclair
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair
In the book The Jungle , Upton Sinclair writes about the life of a young couple and their family,
Jurgis Rudkus and Ona Lukoszaite having to move to America after Ona s father passed away
which left them with little money, Jurgis decided to move his and Ona s family to Chicago from
Lithuania to pursue the American dream. Soon after, they learned that their idea of an American
dream was not what they had pictured to be. The story entails the unlucky events that the family
goes through and the unexpected outcome of it all.
The story opens up with Jurgis and Ona at their wedding feast in an area of Chicago known as
Packingtown, Chicago s meatpacking district. The place is filled with music, food, and drinks.
Guests are invited from the streets to come join in on the celebration. Ona starts to get worried
because after their veselija, or what we know it as a wedding feast, she noticed people were leaving
without contributing money to the newlyweds as Lithuanian tradition follows. Some people snuck
away and some people left without any shame knowing that they took advantage of the family,
freeloading from the food and beer that was provided. Trying to free Ona of her worries of how
they will pay back the saloonkeeper, Jurgis assured her, I will earn more money I will work harder.
Vowing that he will work harder and earn more money to pay back the debt of their wedding.
Jurgis ends up finding a job fairly quickly at a meatpacking company and it s not the best but he s
content because he s bringing in money and so does the rest of the family, Jonas, the brother of
Ona s stepmother, Teta Elzbieta and as do Marija Berczynskas, Ona s cousin. At this point, Jurgis
positive about his future in the Americas, and denies Teta, Ona, and the younger children to work.
They ve decided that they needed to move on up in the world and find a house since they now make
enough money, the family signs an agreement to purchase a house but finds out that it is a rented
house. Adding onto this swindle, they had an interest rate to pay including the rent which resulted

Essay The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental...
Agoraphobia is derived from the Greek words agora, meaning gathering place or assembly
which was used to describe a city s marketplace, and phobia meaning fear. It literally means fear
of the marketplace. Carl Westphal first coined the term agoraphobia in 1871 to describe people
who were afraid of large open spaces. Since then, the definition of agoraphobia has been modified
and continues to develop as more research is done. (Barlow, 2002, p. 328) The Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM 5; American Psychiatric Association [APA],
2013) defines the essential trait of agoraphobia as marked, or intense, fearor anxietytriggered by the
real or anticipated exposure to a wide range of situations. (p... Show more content on

(APA, 2013, p. 218)
The fear or anxiety they have is out of proportion to the actual danger they face. The fear might
occur in anticipation or in the actual event or presence of the situation that they feared. This might
and often does take the form of a panic attack or a limited symptom attack, which is an attack that
is not as severe as a panic attack. This fear happens nearly every time the person is in this
situation not just every once in a while. It causes significant distress and changes behavior so
that it may impair the person socially, occupationally, or in other significant areas of their life.
For it to be considered agoraphobia if it is combined with another medical condition the fear,
anxiety and avoidance must show signs of being excessive and out of proportion to their actual
situation. (APA, 2013, pg 218) The Agoraphobia Workbook s definition of agoraphobia sums these
characteristics as a maladaptive fear of and desire to avoid situations in which the individual
believes a symptom attack may occur and result in incapacitation, humiliation, or some other
catastrophe. (Pollard White, 2003, p. 22) This definition points out a key part of agoraphobia
which is the maladaptive fear. Beyond having fear of the previously mentioned situations, many
people adjust to this fear by becoming completely homebound. It is also common for them to have
depressive symptoms and abuse alcohol and sedative

Student At Depaul University For Three Years Now
Reflective Essay I have been a student at DePaul University for three years now. Over the course
of my stay I have grown and learned how to write essays as Biology major. This class pointed
out to me the things that science majors tend to neglect when they write their essays and lab
reports; for example, punctuation, and citation. This is something I ve gotten better at, but still
improving. Most importantly, I ve learned how to analyze a text. The scientific essays I am used
to reading, rarely do I have to read between the lines. It was hard but quite interesting to go read
an essay and having to break it down from the argument, to the tools used and the author s
opinion even when not directly stated. Throughout the course, I ve also learned how helpful it is
to share your work with classmates. I used to think only the professor had the beneficial feedback
and would never bother asking people from my class. However, I ve learned that they have a fresh
perspective and could help. For example, when I presented my research paper, I wasn t expecting
any feedback that would be that helpful, simply because I assumed the class wasn t familiar with
my topic. However, I was surprised that not only were some familiar, but they had questions about
my topic, and when I responded to them I automatically realized that unintentionally, they had just
given me another argument to write about, and my response was the counter argument. That is
what happened when a girl asked me why

T. D. Jakes True Hope
I would like to preface this paper by saying that I thought that everything that I heard was sound
and it was nice to hear about T.D. Jakes success after such a rough patch in his own life. It really
was an inspiration, and stories like that provide hope for thousands of hurting people. I would like
to explore if this hope he talks about is a realistic hope or a false hope. Obviously, Godis not a genie
and he did not created this universe to give us $100,000, he did not create this universe to give
you your dream car, and he did not create this universe to serve us at anytime. Rather, God gives
us tools in our life to achieve our goals though his power. This is where my critical side comes
out. Bishop Jakes argued that we can all reach

answer is not to make a profit because that s the result, but they need to know their personal
purpose and mission. Our staff members need to be trained/prepared in several conceivable aspects

The moral is that service recovery is often an opportunity to turn a customer (patient) into a loyal
fan (Du Pre, 2014, pp.279 280). Our employees will receive training on how to reach patients
using a logical and emotional appeal. Employees being provided with skill training will result in
more confidence in their work performance, which directly associates with a decreased measure
of anxiety and they are more averse to encounter burnout. Du Pre define burnout as an emotional
exhaustion, depersonalization, and a reduced sense of personal accomplishment (Du Pre, 2014,
p.115). We want to motivate our employees to strive for excellence and to achieve this will are
given motives to essentially, increase productivity and responsibility, and employee morale in a
sense. Each month an employee will be selected based off of work execution and objective
accomplishments, they will be determined by client (patient) evaluations. These evaluations will
be in the form of a questionnaire, which will have five close ended questions with a comment box
located at the bottom. The comment box will be open ended therefore patients can express their
experience in their own words. This will be a brief questionnaire the patient can fill it out on our
mobile app; therefore it can be done at their convenience. In exchange for taking our questionnaire,
the patient will automatically be entered in a drawing to win a gift

The film My Vie En Rose meaning My Life in Pink tells the story of a seven year old boy named
Ludovic who is convinced that he actually is a girl living in a boy s body. He tells his parents that I
m a boy now, but one day I ll be a girl. Even years before puberty, he knows that there was a mix up
when he was handed his gender assignment. The film deals of the stress that is not only dealt
with by Ludovic but also how his family deals with his realization. The film which is part

Ludovic clearly doesn t enjoy laying the sport, and he isn t very good at it. We constantly see
him lying on the ground. The reason he is playing the sport though is because his father loves it,
and thinks that it s something that normal boys do. Everyone around him comes on so strong
with their gender request that it almost seems that they are like a military if sorts. Their belief is
you will act like you are supposed to act or we won t give you the affection that a kid deserves.
This notion is something that his parents struggle with throughout the film. It seems that they really
do love him, but they just can t wrap their mind around the fact their son really thinks he is a girl.
I felt that this film showed two different ways of seeing things. First there s the way a children
see the world. Kids are able to create dream worlds where they are able to live out their fantasies.
Ludovic s world involves his favorite TV character, a Barbie like character named Pam. Pam is a
princess of sorts; she flies around in a pink dress with a magic wand. In this world Ludovic acts
like her assistant. It is clear that he wants to be just like her. On the other hand there is the view
of the adults. They tend to see things more for what they really are. They don t act very well
around someone who may be a little different from them. This is most evident in the way that
Ludovic s father s boss acts. Ludovic is forced to pay for all the homophobic phobias,

Similarities Between Colonialism And Feminism
Postcolonialism and Feminism
Abstract
Colonialism/Postcolonialism is a remarkably comprehensive yet accessible guide to the historical
and theoretical dimensions of colonial and postcolonial studies. National fantasies are they colonial,
anti colonial or postcolonial also play upon the connection between woman, land or nation. Feminist
theory and postcolonial theory are occupied with similar questions of representation, voice,
marginalization, and the relation between politics and literature. Given that both critical projections
employ multidisciplinary perspectives, they are each attentive, at least in principle, to historical
context and the geopolitical co ordinates the subject in question. The identification of women as
national mother stems from a wider association of nation with the family. The topic of feminismand

to the work of women writers. At the level of theory, postcolonial feminist critics have raised a
number of conceptual, methodological and political problems involved in the study of
representations of gender. These problems are at once specific to feminist concerns, such as the
possibility of finding and international, cross culture sisterhood between First world and Third

Berlioz Characteristics
Music is a beautiful form of producing harmony and expressing emotions, but a tune cannot
suddenly pop up out of the abyss. Someone had to write music to be played. People who compose
a tune are given the term composer. With many composers around the world, one that sticks out is
Louis Hector Berlioz. Hector Berlioz, oldest son of father, Louis Joseph Berlioz, and mother, Marie
Antoinette was born in La CГґte Saint AndrГ©, France on December 11, 1803. His father, at a
time being a massive idol for Hector, a physician and was believed to have introduced
acupunctural techniques while his mother was a devout Roman Catholic, could not get Hector
to have a love for classical languages. His father had wanted Hector to have an education in
medicine. Berlioz was one of six siblings ;however, three had sadly died at a young age. The
other two who had lived past the traumatic time were Nanci, who was younger than Hector by
three years, and AdГЁle, who was the youngest and younger than Hector by eleven years. Berlioz
was close to the both of them. In Hector s lifetime he had two different spouses but not at the same
time. Harriet Smithson was his first partner and Mademoiselle RГ©cio followed. Hector soon
developed a passion for music which overflowed into his own music as he goes into further detail
about how the prevailing characteristics of my music are passionate expression, rhythmic
animation, and unexpected turns. He was entranced with music, so he started

American Manufacturing and the U.S Economy Essay

great American businesses and corporations began. Companies like General

to plummet as the economy has begun this recession. It may seem as if the country that used to

Even with the misfortune with unemployment, Americans still lead the world in manufacturing.
But there is a counterbalance to the drop in total employment, the dramatic rise in productivity.
According to the National Association of Manufacturers, over the past two decades manufacturing
productivity has grown by 94%, which is considerably faster than the rest of the U.S. business
sector, where productivity grew by 38% over the same time period.
Another concept that is brought up by the article is international trade and business. There are a
number of gains to be obtained from international trade, such as lower prices, greater choice, and
a variety of resources. Many of the millions of laid off workers in recent years ended up shifting
into lower salaried service jobs, while U.S. manufacturers relocated production facilities to low
cost countries. The U.S has established great economic trade connections with the rest of the
world, and that has lead to U.S. based plants shifting work over to foreign competitors, such as
China, so that they can have cheap labor. It is much cheaper to have workers overseas however
there is the danger of unemployment. The United States needs to protect the economy from
imports, so sometimes a tariff is applied. A tariff is a tax that is charged on imported goods.

Spirited Away Sociology
Spirited away is a Japanese animated movie based upon Japanese folklore regarding Kamikakushi
(Spirited Away). This particular legend is very ancient, dating back to prehistorical Jomon Japan
around 2,300 years ago; it was derived upon frequent disappearance of children in premodern
Japan, who often reappears several days after in a temple or shrine. It is believed that an infuriated
god in the mountain has abducted, hidden, and enslaved the children.
This folklore was adapted to create a modern fiction, Spirited Away. In this film, the primary
protagonist, Chihiro, ends up being Spirited Away from the real world to the spirit realm. The
director of this film, Miyazaki Hayao, brilliantly denounces many contemporary controversial

Especially during work hours, the workplace is constantly surveyed by Yubaba s magic. There are
also spies amongst the laborers that report back to Yubaba daily of any misconduct committed by
the laborers.
A far more extreme form of labor control is presented in this film. Yubaba binds the employees
under contract that allows her to take their life away if she finds their work capability
unsatisfactory. This is shown when the boiler man yells at his underling that if they do not work,
they will be turned into pile of ashes. Yubaba is the symbol of bourgeoisie and workers are the
symbol of proletariat; this is a perfect signifier of class based system.
Throughout this film, the girl s struggle from alienation is depicted in detail. Chihiro had to adjust
to the spiritual world s common sense, discrimination, manners, labor market, and others, which
differentiated significantly from the one s she is used to in reality. The bathhouse mainly
revolves around interactive service work and physical labor; women mainly handles the aesthetic
labor and men handles the physical labor. Although Chihiro is a ten years old girl, she was forced
to handle hard physical labor with no assistance or guidance from other employees. The special

Benefits of Obtaining a Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies Interdisciplinary studies is defined as the

Informative Essay On Ballet Dance
You are sitting down in a dressing room, pulling out your leotard and tights out of your ballet
bag. You slip on your tights, and they fit snugly around your legs. You step into your leotard, and
feel the feeling of being a ballerina. Next, you pull a pair of satin pointe shoes from your bag.
Yesterday you had sewn on the laces. You slip the shoes on and cross the laces and tie them. You
stand up and walk into the studio.Your pointe shoesclip and clop against the tile hall. You slowly
take a place at the barre as the music begins.
It is clear that you have to go through a lot to be a ballet dancer. Ballet is a sport that takes grace,
but also strength. You have to be able to hold 5 positions and do many moves from them. You also
have to wear a certain style, and take part in many performances. These things will help you on
your journey to be a great dancer.
Positions and Moves All moves in ballet circulate around 5 main positions. There is first, second,
third, fourth, and fifth position. First position is where you put your heels together in parallel
which is when you stand in a straight line with your knees together, and open your feet to turn out.
Turning out is opening your hips to face the front. Sometimes at first your turnout is not perfect. In
fact, no one s turnout, not even the most famous ballerina is perfect! Another, Second position is
where you start in first, and then you open your legs, still turned out. Also, Third is where you

Theme Of Superstition In PetroniusThe Satirycon

Superstition Within Petronius The Satirycon
Written during the 1st century A.D., the Satyricon is often referred to as the first Roman novel.
The novel has only survived for us in fragments, and for this reason it is impossible for the modern
reader to reconstruct its plot completely. However, the Satyriconserves as an invaluable source of
information about the daily life and language of the Roman populace. Petronius deliberately
reproduces plebeian language and slang, offering a rare insight into everyday Roman life, which
polished and refined works leave absent. Petronius focuses on the large social gap between the
freed slaves and scholars of the time and how superstition can show that gap. The main scene that
superstition is shown is during Trimalchio s Feast.
The scene in the novel titled as Trimalchio s feast, describes an elaborate dinner party hosted by
Trimalchio, a businessman and immigrant who gained riches in Rome without any elegance or an
education fit for an aristocrat of the time. This section has been preserved more completely than
some of the more fragmented chapters of the novel, its themes and motifs are able to develop more
fully and be more closely understood as Petronius had originally intended. It could be interpreted
within different chapters and scenes of the feast as focusing on the large social gap between Rome
s freed slaves, and the well educated scholars whom they aimed to mimic. Although, this

Essay on Critical History of As I Lay Dying

Critical History Assignment
Many of William Faulkner s books, especially As I Lay Dying focused on the South in the
aftermath of the Civil War. The themes of his and other Southern authors included: a common
Southern history, the significance of family, a sense of community and one s role within it, the
Church and its burdens and rewards, racial tension, land and the promise it brings, one s social
class and place, and, sometimes, the use of the Southern dialect. The criticism of the novel has
changed over the years with critics using everything from Psychoanalytic theory to Marxist theory
to explain the importance of language and the historical content behind the novel. In his ... Show

Darl is thus established as an outsider, as he is an unwanted child, and contributes to his
unsureness of selfhood. Adamowski cites Fairbairn s theory on constant oscillation and the
desire for independence and fear of abandonment. Darl only experiences the isolation side and
this choice is made for him. Adamowski points out parallels between Dewey Dell and Addie as
she is pregnant and trying to violate the violation through an abortion. This contributes to the
incestual undertones that Adamowski illustrates between Jewel and Addie, and Darl and
Dewey Dell. Adamowski believes that there are Oedipal complexes present in both Jewel and
Darl who displace their love on his horse and Dewey Dell, respectively. Addie is portrayed as a
callused and irreverent character, but Adamowski believes that he triumphs. Also Anse is
portrayed as a stranger/outsider and this contributes to Addie s role as a father/phallic symbol,
instead of just as a maternal figure. Carolyn Norma Slaughter s article addresses the idea of
language and meaning in the novel, with particular focus on Addie s view of these themes. She
points out that the story revolves around Addie, whose death is the reason for the novel, and to
whom the central chapter of the book is given. Because of this, it s important to note her ideas
about words and what they mean. Slaughter

Tracy Latimer Euthanasia
Write to die? Tracy Latimer was killed by her father on October 24th, 1993. He was charged with
second degree murder after a series of trials and appeals. Robert Latimer had been motivated by
concern for the suffering of her daughter, who had severe mental and physical disabilities, and by
love. This case leads to a national disagreement on euthanasia. It is one of many cases about
euthanasia. Should it be a legitimate right? This paper is going to explain the reason why I think
euthanasia ought not to be legal. The first premise will argue that voluntary euthanasia is the start
of a slippery slope. Then, the position of Immanuel Kant towards euthanasia will be discussed in the
last postulate.

He is convinced that reason might be revealed in three principles of morality: goodwill, duty,
and categorical imperative. For Kant, good goes hand in hand with will. Nothing is good except
for a good will (Kant 9). For instance, courage is not good if it is used for evil purpose as hurting
someone and being proud of it. However, will, the capacity to act from principle, is also related
to duty. Moral worth can only be obtained if we act from duty. In other words, an action does not
have a moral worth if you do not act from your duty. But, What determines our duty? The
categorical imperative by Kant answer that questions and provides us with the response to What
makes a moral right? or, What makes euthanasia right? He states, in his first formulation of the
Categorical Imperative, that we are ought to act in a way that the maxim of our actions can
become a universal law of conduct. In his second formulation, Immanuel Kant asserts that we
should act in a way to behave with others, as we would like to be treated ( 229). Therefore, we
have no right to formulate a maxim such as: If I am in a really bad condition, I have the right of
being euthanized; since it cannot form a universal law. Furthermore, we should not to dehumanize
ourselves through euthanasia, as it

There have been dozens of definitions of entrepreneurship. The first of those is the phenomenon
that some people, rather than working for somebody else under an employment contract, strike out
on their own and become self employed. These economic entities involve some element of
innovation at start up, and some degree of innovativeness is needed to survive over time. However,
innovation is not central to this phenomenon. It is to the second social reality. This reality involves
the development and renewal of any society, economy or organization, which is based on micro
level actors who have the initiative and persistence to make change happen. In this reality,
entrepreneurship means the creation of new economic activities and organizations as well as the
transformation of existing ones . Indicators of Contributions to Economic Outcomes 1)Employment

Firm growth, measured by the number of jobs created (relative to the size of the firm), is often
used as an indicator of the quantity of employment generated. The quality of employment is

wage levels, benefits (e.g. health insurance), and the use of productivity related pay (PRP). Job

Confucius And Confucianism
Confucius s philosophical teachings about government and society discussed in the Analects
revolve around morality and how a ruler and his people should act in order to stabilize society.
Confucius looked to the past to discuss the problems of the present by modeling his teachings from
the former Zhou empire. Confuciussought to bring back the Zhou traditions in order to better
society. By linking moral behaviors to social roles and hierarchies, he emphasized that the
stability of the government and society was directly correlated to the relationship between the
ruler and the people. With the title Son of Heaven, the ruler was expected to act morally towards
his subjects and treat them with love and concern ( Introduction to Confucian Thought , 2009).
This idea is directly related to the concept of ren, which discusses the well being of others as the
moral drive of society. He extended this idea into social harmony, being first and foremost
embedded in the family. Confucius believed that the virtue of filial piety was the foundation for not
just family life but also had implication for the ruler subject bond ( Mencius and his development of
Confucian teachings , n.d.). Similarly, Mencius centered his teachings on this idea by stressing that
the well being of the family directly corresponded to the well being of the state. Most importantly
however, Confucius also discussed the importance of the ruler ruling over the people with virtue,
which was achieved through ritual

Love Triangle In The Canterbury Tales
In the Canterbury Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer, born in circa 1340 October 25, 1400, London,
England.Chaucer expresses his beliefs of how should love be through the Knight s Tale and Miller
s Prologue since both presents a love triangle.Chaucer on the stories shows two types of love which
had similarities and differences between the characters and the events of both stories. Geoffrey
Chaucer, in the text Canterbury Tale describes the lovetriangle by different types of how should be
love, and I saw some similarities compared to now in how people see the love and how they show
love to others.
Chaucer maintain that the love triangle is represented by Duke Theseus and John the Carpenter by
being the elderly authority figure because they try to control Emily and Alison,Palamon and Arcite
by Knight s tale, Absolon, and Nicholas by the Miller s tale represent the suitors, they had love at
first sight. Chaucer s purpose for writing this text is to compare two characters that have almost the
same roles in the stories but with other names and becoming a different type of story. This text is
significant to our understanding of love triangle because each one compares how love should be
and these stories have some similarities with now.
Early in the story, Chaucer describes two differences in how should love be as Palamon leaps out
from his hiding place, calls Arcite a traitor, declares himself to be Arcite s mortal foe, and
challenges him to a duel by the knight s tale and Alison and Nicholas form a plan to spend the
night together by the Miller s tale.
What Chaucer is saying is that in the Knight s tale love is represented as a fight between two
people as a courtly love, this means that if you want have the love of a woman you need to fight
to have it, Palamon and Arcite spend dangerous years trying to be near Emilye, they both face off
with sword and shield to fight with hundreds of knights, but in this story Emilye don t choose
which one she wants, Theseus the authority control her and say that the winner would have her, this
story represents the perfect stereotype of perfect warrior and the perfect princess not showing any
personalities traits and in the Miller s tale the characters have specific traits and they

Enzyme Catalysis And Enzyme Inhibition Essay
Enzyme catalysis and enzyme inhibition are two essential biological mechanisms of organisms. In
this experiment, WT AP and MBP AP enzyme are reacted with different concentrations of PNPP
substrate in SpectrovVis time based assays. From the change in absorbance over time data, and the
rates of the reactions are calculated, followed by the determination of the kinetic constants. Then,
the MBP AP assays are repeated with two different concentrations of phosphate inhibitor and the
kinetic constants of the uninhibited enzymes are compared to those of the inhibited enzymes.
Results of the experiment show that the uninhibited WT AP and MBP AP enzymes yielded
expected kinetic constants according to a reference. However, the inhibited enzymes produced
kinetics constants that did not resemble a competitive inhibition, which was expected. Instead, the
inhibitor is observed to be a mixed inhibitor.
Introduction Enzymes are biological catalysts. Without them, biological reactions will not proceed
in a reasonable rate. For example, without a series of digestive enzymes, it can take 20 years to
digest a hamburger. Enzyme catalyzed reactions proceed through an ES complex, in which the
substrate binds to the enzyme, gets transformed into the product, and releases into the environment.
For a specific enzyme, only one or a few different substrate molecules can bind in the proper
manner and produce a functional ES complex. The substrate must have a size, shape, and polarity

The world we live in today has a saying If you didn t take pictures, it was like you were never

Horn, describes how technology has made it easy for everyone to save any and almost every
memory through social media. People might want to capture every memoryfor the fear of being
forgotten or for the fact that they will be able to look back on every memory of their lives. A
problem with people saving every memory of their lives is that when you look back at them, it
will be hard to distinguish the treasured memories from the trash because of the huge amounts of
captured memories. I believe that the idea presented here is that the abuse of modern technology
has driven us to try to show ourselves to the world through social media, making the photo of
ourselves more like a resume rather than actual memories we cherish. It s like having an
abundance of best friends, once that special friendship is expanded to many it loses it s value. The

Existentialism And The Beliefs Of The Movement
Losing all hope was freedom. One of the most powerful quotes in Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
that is a good summary of existentialism and the beliefs of the movement. Existentialism was a
turning point for society and literature that advocated the expansion of the minds of authors and
their readers so we could improve our thinking to be more enlightened and free. The movement
sparked much alternative thinking to allow our society to grow into what it is today and without it
people would most likely be more close minded and less free. Existentialismwas a very influential
movement with many impactful authors and will forever be remembered in history because of it s
unique ideas about the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent
determining their own development through acts of the will and how it shifted a culture.
Existentialism is a philosophical idea within ethics that was developed in the 19th century and
progressed heavily into the 20th century. Some basic foundational ideas of existentialism are found
in early Buddhist and Christian writings, which may have been the starting point for the movement.
Also, like existentialism s previous philosophical ideas that came before it, it rebels against
traditional Western thought that believes rationality and consciousness are the key points to
understanding the human condition. According to Jean Paul Sartre, a famous existentialist,
existence precedes and rules essence (Andrea 665). A clearer way

Enzymes and pH Concentration
Enzymes and pH Concentration
Abstract
Enzymes are high molecular weight molecules and are proteins in nature. Enzymes work as
catalysts in biochemical reactions in living organisms. Enzyme Catecholase is found on in plants,
animals as well as fungi and is responsible for the darkening of different fruits. In most cases
enzymatic activities are influenced by a number of factors, among them is temperature, PH, enzyme
concentration as well as substrate concentration (Silverthorn, 2004). In this experiment enzyme
catecholase was used to investigate the effects of PH and enzyme concentration on it rate of
reaction. A pH buffer was used to control the PH, potato juice was used as the substrate and water
was used as a solvent.
The experiments involved PH buffers of different pH were added to potato juice, water, and the
enzyme catecholase. The mixture was then subjected to spectrophotometer at a wavelength of
420nm taking the absorbance readings. In the second experiment, a phosphate buffer of PH 7.0 was
used in different measures together with different measurement of potato juice and the enzyme
catecholase then subjected to the spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 420nm. The data collected
inform of table and analyzed using descriptive statistics such as line graph and later interpreted,
showing that PH and enzyme concentration do affect the rate of enzyme reaction

Sacrifice In Ancient Greece
Sacrifice is a significant theme to the Background to mythology as well as Greek societies.
Sacrifice is an approach in giving up something of special value. This was essential to Greek
societies because sacrifice was essential to the polytheistic religion in which they would sacrifice
many valuable items to them in order to appease the gods. To successfully appease the gods,
Greeks would give up important values such as animals, which were considered very precious and

Patriot Essay
Martin, a veteran of the French and Indian War, thinks of himself as a battle weary peacenik (his

At first, the opposing armies, in their red and blue uniforms, line up in stately rows, absurdly
organized, like marching bands with muskets. As the guns crack and the soldiers fall, the battles
become a stately ritual of mass suicide. The revolutionary forces are the underdogs, ragged and
barely equipped. It s Martin who has the idea of uniting a militia to stage pinpoint ambushes in
the woods. Attacking by stealth, he becomes a fearsome legend, a ghost of a fighter. In one juicy
scene, he sneaks out of hiding for an impromptu negotiation with Lord General Cornwallis (Tom

and that s his problem. He approaches armed conflict like a gentleman; he believes in war as a

Galileo Galilei Research Papers
Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564, and died on January 8, 1642, from the cause of
heart palpitations. He was an Italian polymath who was a central figure in the transition from
natural philosophy to modern science. Most of his life was based on arguing that heliocentrism is
right and geocentrism is wrong. Galileo agreed with Nicolaus that the Sun was in the center of the
universe which he confirmed using the crude refracting telescope and the 20x lens. The Church
disagreed with him, they didn t want their thousands of years of teaching to go down the drain in
seconds and therefore he was charged with heresy twice. He also discovered that there are rings
around Saturn and found out about four different moons orbiting Jupiter: Callisto, Ganymede, Io,
and Europa.
Galileo was born and raised in Pisa, Italy with a healthy family of two parents, and five siblings.
Galileo gave private and public lessons in mathematics in Florence and Siena. Galileo traveled to

Newton used Galileo s work to help formulate his laws of motion and how gravity works and
affects objects. Although Galileo refined it to the point where he can see further than any other
telescope at the time. It was also the starting point of the powerful kinds of the telescope we have
today. Galileo is not the first scientist to postulate that the earth revolved around the sun, he
definitely is the one credited to prove the Copernican theory because he was the one publicly spoke
about it. At the time no one believed him except for another scientist who has seen that the earth
revolves around the sun. Everyone at the time believed in geocentrism which the church had been
teaching for thousands of years. Galileo proved them wrong, using his telescope, he demonstrated to
people that other planets were naturally occurring bodies, not some supernatural entities that will

Durkheim and the Relevance of His Theories in Modern Society
Treat social facts as things is an expression that epitomises the works of Emile Durkheim. This
essay focuses on four main sociological concepts proposed by the functionalist Emile Durkheim; the
division of labour; mechanical and organic solidarity; anomie and suicide, and examines their
relevance in contemporary society.
Along with Marx and Weber, Durkheim is considered one of the founding members of modern
sociology. He is also credited with making sociology a science through his application of
scientific and empirical research. Durkheim believed that sociology should be seen as a science
separate from other sciences such as psychology, by studying social facts objectively as things.

(McDonald, 2009)
Organic solidarity arose as a result of the industrial revolution when society became more
multifaceted and new ways of working emerged. This saw a decline in the collective conscience
regarding shared morals and beliefs as society began to progress and expand. The division of
labour that arises as a result of organic solidarity is complex and varied, resulting in people
becoming more individualistic and yet also interdependent. Society s social bonds now centred
around the fact that people were dependant on each other for the good and services required in
their day to day lives. (McDonald, 2009)
As organic solidarity is typical of complex, industrialised societies, Durkheim s theory is very
applicable to modern life and the first world in particular. Individuality is a major feature of
people living in the western world today e.g. the USA, UK, and Ireland. This is evident in our
political and social thinking. Much emphasis is placed on personal rights and the belief that
nothing is more important than us. (Hughes et al, 1995) Meanwhile we are not self sufficient; we
rely heavily on the expertise of thousands globally to live our daily lives e.g. the food we eat, the
clothes we wear, the cars we drive etc. (Macionis and Plummer, 2005)
A huge increase in individualism came about because of organic solidarity resulting in a breakdown
of moral and ethical boundaries

The UAE has a federal constitution that divides power between the federal government (based in
Abu Dhabi) and the governments of the constituent Emirates. However, throughout the Emirates, if
a foreign company or investor wishes to establish a presence in the UAE they will be required to
have a UAE national. A UAE national is another term for an agent, partner or sponsor who will
counsel and guide them in while in the country. The UAE is an active member of the United
Nations, the Organizations of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the Arab League, and the Arab Gulf
Cooperation Council (AGCC).
The UAE constitution also provides for a federal court system. It also allows for each Emirate to
maintain an independent court system. There are three divisions to the federal court system. They
are civil, criminal and Sharia (Islamic). The Sharia division has jurisdiction over matters of
personal status (marriage, divorce and inheritance) and in cases of non Muslims; it is required to
apply the religious or civil law of the parties. Recently the Sharia has also taken jurisdiction over
certain criminal matters such as drug offenses. The criminal division handles all other criminal
cases. The civil division handles all other matters, including commercial and business disputes.

Characteristics Of Older Generations
All generations have their own interesting qualities and contributions to the world; which most of
the time teaches younger generation s key skills for living their lives successfully. However, not
only do the older generations have assets to teach the young, but the younger generations have
things to teach the older generations, too! GenerationZ is the generation spanning from 1995 2015.
In this time period there have been many different changes that have occurred to shape our thoughts
on the future and the present. We have gone through our first big terrorist attack, our first African
American President, a recession, and the development of a large amount of technology. From these
life altering events, our generation has five different characteristics that can help the older
generations learn and grow; please allow us to return the favor.
Acceptance/ Open mindedness
Striving for Better and Less Expensive Higher Education
Implementation of Technology
Being Cynical isn t a foul thing
Charitability
In recent years we have come across a lot of political and personal issues that have been extremely
controversial and have upset older generations largely. Our generation has been accepting and open
to those who are wanting to engage in same sex marriage, transgender bathrooms, women s rights,
abortion, and different sexuality and identification. It is important to remember, no matter what
your religion, that is their own cross to bear. If you believe in God, remember that they

The Criminal Justice System Deals With The Risk And...
Critically evaluate the ways in which the criminal justice system deals with the risk and
management of sex offenders. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), from
December 2013 to December 2014, the amount of recorded sexual offences has risen by 32
percent to 80,262 for England and Wales (ONS, 2015:13). The most serious cases of sex
offending will result in a custodial sentence. From 2005 to 2011 the proportion of offenders who
received a custodial sentence for committing sexual offences is between 55 and 59 percent (ibid,
41). Custody is an immediate way of protecting the public from the future risks posed by a serious
sexual offender. However, at some point of the offender s custodial sentence, it is likely that they
will be granted their right to parole; and eventually will be released into the community.
Furthermore, the less serious sexual offenders who receive suspended sentences, community
sentences, or fines are also dealt with in the community and therefore put the public at immediate
risk of harm. Although the risks can never be fully eliminated, it is extremely important that the
amount of risk imposed on society is kept to a minimum (Harrison, 2011:78). This essay will focus
on the Violent and Sex Offenders Register (ViSOR) and Multi Agency Public Protection
Arrangements (MAPPA), and evaluate their effectiveness on minimising the risk of harm to the
public. One method that the CJS uses to reduce risk is the Sex Offenders Register, which was

William Penn American Hero Essay
Should William Penn be a heroic figure to American history? Throughout British proprietary
colonization of the Americas, there were many different motives for claiming American soil by
those whom were audacious enough to consider the prospect of funding a distant statehood. Penn
claimed to see his colony as a holy experiment (page XIII); who differed from its peers in the
respect that it had intent to provide refuge to those whom faced religious persecution, even so, the
devout Quaker, eventually allowed to fall into a state of neglect and sink to the level of its peers.
Ironically the people of Pennsylvaniabecame so intolerant of other religions, that, not even after
four decades, Paralleled their English oppressors . Eventually,... Show more content on

In lay man s terms, all considered Penn one hundred percent English, with no relationship to the
American revolutionaries of the United States whose actions would take place more than a
hundred years after his. While Penn may have claimed his colony to be a holy experiment , his
actions communicated otherwise. When Penn received his charter from Charles II he saw
further potential for and many probable afforded opportunities for personal gain from
establishing dominion over territories over one of the many virgin lands in one of the new
worlds. Penn s ledger from the throne implanted the idea of escaping his own previously
established personal debts, as well as enlarging his overall holdings in real estate and land,
especially one not subject to the high taxes and economic cost which land in mainland England
cost at the time. When Penn received his ledger, the idea of establishing a land of religious
tolerance for all those persecuted by those less open minded in the east seemed a very appealing
thought to many. Penn, however, knew that he had a far better chance of obtaining American real
estate than English. He recognized his charter as a means of enlarging his property holdings and
his way out of personals debt (page 122). While Penn s intent of establishing a land of acceptance
and brotherly love may have been apparent

Atticus Pawn In To Kill A Mockingbird
When saying Atticus is like pawn in a game, it means he isn t the one who s playing the game; it
s the judge and jury who decides his fate. The author of this book, To kill a mockingbird, is
Harper Lee. Atticus is described as a pawn because in a game of chess the pawn is most likely go
down and doesn t really have a chance of winning. If it does win, the reward is reviving one of
your pieces that have been knocked out. In this case, it s Tom Robinson s freedom. Atticus knows
he doesn t have a chance of winning; but with what he can do, he tries to bring up the idea of
ending discrimination. Atticus is like a pawn in a game which he had no control over. Atticus uses
all his power in trying to free Tom Robinson.
Ever since Atticus got Tom Robinson s case Scout has been teased by people at school and called
Nigger lover . Scout doesn t know what a nigger lover is so she asks Atticus.
Scout, said Atticus, nigger lover is just one of those terms that don t mean anything like snot nose.
It s hard to explain ignorant, trashy people use it when they think somebody s favoring Negroes
over and above themselves. It s slipped into usage with some people like ourselves, when they want
a common, ugly term to label somebody.

You know, it s a funny thing about Braxton, said Atticus. He despises negroes, won t have one near
him (209). Mr. Underwood protected Atticus even though he despises black people; Atticus is

The Minister s Black Veil Analysis
Nobody s perfect! In the Minister s Black Veil, Mr. Hooper wears the black veil to symbolize
hidden sins among the townspeople and himself. The veil acted as a mirror, making all the
townspeople more aware of their own sins. The more aware they became of their own sinful
nature, the more uncomfortable they became with themselves. Being around the minister and
seeing his veil troubled them deeply, even during joyful times. Truth is, the article states no
specific reason as to why he wears the veil. This allows the reader to speculate as to what the
reasoning was for the black veil. As it says in the text in lines 127 130 Something must surely be
amiss with Mr. Hooper s intellects. But the strangest part of the affair is the effect of this vagary.
The physician is stating that Hooper must be out of his mind, but whatever he is doing is having
an odd effect on the people. This proves that Hooper s reason for the black veil is not only for
himself, but also as a symbol for the people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it says in lines 251 256, Come, good sir, let the sun shine from behind the cloud. First lay
aside your black veil: the tell me why you put it on. Mr. Hooper s smile glimmered faintly as he
replied There is an hour to come when all of us shall cast aside our veils. Take it not amiss,
beloved friend if I wear this piece of crape till then. This statement proves that not only is Mr.
Hooper talking about his own sins, he is also symbolizing his church member s sins as

  • 2. Essay On Veterans Rights The issue that has been addressed throughout this study is veteran s rights. The issue of veteran s rights is still being pursued and is near and dear to me. Not only am I a veteran, but I come from a long line of men and women who have proudly worn the uniform in defense of our nation. Between the mindset of the American public, to the cases presented before Congress, this is an ongoing dilemma. Caring for our brothers and sisters in arms is the socially responsible thing to do. However, many roadblocks must be torn down before this can come to fruition. Problems Faced What some the symptoms of veteran s rights look like in regards to how they are addressed, are in multitude. They range in length from health care, education, to basic family needs. Overall, the American public does not pay attention to veterans, and this is mostly in part because the issues that plague our veterans are often deemed irrelevant by the average ... Once I have a wealth of research on my side, then I can not only help to inform the populace but either create or join an existing social movement, like the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP, 2017) and others, that promotes the goals in which I wish to achieve. Working directly with veterans and their families while bringing the information to the populace has so far been the most effective. Petitions have been generated and sent to Senators, and because of the slow, but steady fight, many in Congress are seeing that there needs to be changes put in place. The objectives for the desired outcomes is to ensure that every veteran, regardless of which war, receives the proper care and treatment of their ailments. This is to include housing our homeless veterans in complexes in which they will feel safe, yet give them the freedom they need to work on their journey of healing. In the process, the veterans families that are affected must not be forgotten as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Medical Center felt secure in its position in the marketplace. Other than a few program advertisements the Medical Center did not take part in strategic planning or marketing. Rush fell from the number 1 medical center to the fourth in consumer surveys (Long, 2014). They were in desperate need for strategic planning, marketing, and assessments. The marketing campaign of 2003 returned Rush to profits (Long, 2014). Competitive Strategic Plan There are several steps to strategic plan. Interviews should be conducted with stakeholders to develop action plan. An environmental scan should be performed. A review of the history of the organizations structure, resources, strengths, and weaknesses should be evaluated as well as their major competitors. • 4. Devaluation of the Feminine Devaluation of the Feminine The devaluation of women is built into the culture all through industry and popular culture. When a baby is born he/she is like a blank slate to be written on by his/her surroundings, including family and society. For example, I am a Christian, however I was not born a Christian, going to Church and being taught about the Bible by my parents and teachers brought me to identify myself as a Christian. There are certain gender roles that are set up in societies that limit males and females to certain behaviors they are supposed to portray. The media in many cultures, particularly American culture, continues make the devaluation of females more socially acceptable . The stereotypes for the feminine role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women are put on display as sexual spectacles. An example of a woman who was put on display for public entertainment is Saarjite Baartman, commonly known as Hottentot Venus. She was a South African woman whose body was exhibited at circuses, museums, and zoos. The spectacle of Baartman s body continued even after her death at the age of 26. Pseudo scientists interested in investigating in primitive sexuality , dissected and cast her genitals (and buttocks) in wax. They concluded that her oversized genitals were physical proof of African Women s primitive sexual appetite (Thompson). This is an example of the way a woman s body was used to make a profit, similar to the way the women in the videos are exploited for ratings. As a black woman, I have begun to pick up the common theme that Kilbourne pointed out; black females are often depicted as animalistic, purely sexual, and non human. In movies, many women are given roles that require them to be nude for sex scenes. If they are not interested, either they are rejected for the role, even if they are very good actresses, or they are offered more money until they agree to do the scene(s). Only the most beautiful actresses with the most perfect bodies are asked to do nude scenes. If the actress that gets the role does not have a fit body, they are given a body double that does have an ideal body. Therefore, actresses that are trying to become ... Those sites include: The Dome of the Rock, Al Aqsa Mosque, The Western (Wailing) Wall, and many others. The land of Jerusalem and the West Bank is also thought to be sacred in their own rights due to the history of who has occupied these areas in the past. Each one of these sites is seen as very sacred in the international world. Recent acts of violence have plagued this area. These acts have led to deaths on all sides. There needs to be a protection of access to these sites for all people that see it as sacred: The Muslims, The Christians, and also The Jewish population. • 7. Essay The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental... Agoraphobia is derived from the Greek words agora, meaning gathering place or assembly which was used to describe a city s marketplace, and phobia meaning fear. It literally means fear of the marketplace. Carl Westphal first coined the term agoraphobia in 1871 to describe people who were afraid of large open spaces. Since then, the definition of agoraphobia has been modified and continues to develop as more research is done. (Barlow, 2002, p. 328) The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM 5; American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013) defines the essential trait of agoraphobia as marked, or intense, fearor anxietytriggered by the real or anticipated exposure to a wide range of situations. The fear might occur in anticipation or in the actual event or presence of the situation that they feared. This might and often does take the form of a panic attack or a limited symptom attack, which is an attack that is not as severe as a panic attack. This fear happens nearly every time the person is in this situation not just every once in a while. It causes significant distress and changes behavior so that it may impair the person socially, occupationally, or in other significant areas of their life. For it to be considered agoraphobia if it is combined with another medical condition the fear, anxiety and avoidance must show signs of being excessive and out of proportion to their actual situation. (APA, 2013, pg 218) The Agoraphobia Workbook s definition of agoraphobia sums these characteristics as a maladaptive fear of and desire to avoid situations in which the individual believes a symptom attack may occur and result in incapacitation, humiliation, or some other catastrophe. (Pollard White, 2003, p. 22) This definition points out a key part of agoraphobia which is the maladaptive fear. Beyond having fear of the previously mentioned situations, many people adjust to this fear by becoming completely homebound. • 8. Student At Depaul University For Three Years Now Reflective Essay I have been a student at DePaul University for three years now. Over the course of my stay I have grown and learned how to write essays as Biology major. This class pointed out to me the things that science majors tend to neglect when they write their essays and lab reports; for example, punctuation, and citation. This is something I ve gotten better at, but still improving. Most importantly, I ve learned how to analyze a text. The scientific essays I am used to reading, rarely do I have to read between the lines. It was hard but quite interesting to go read an essay and having to break it down from the argument, to the tools used and the author s opinion even when not directly stated. Throughout the course, I ve also learned how helpful it is to share your work with classmates. I used to think only the professor had the beneficial feedback and would never bother asking people from my class. However, I ve learned that they have a fresh perspective and could help. For example, when I presented my research paper, I wasn t expecting any feedback that would be that helpful, simply because I assumed the class wasn t familiar with my topic. However, I was surprised that not only were some familiar, but they had questions about my topic, and when I responded to them I automatically realized that unintentionally, they had just given me another argument to write about, and my response was the counter argument. People who compose a tune are given the term composer. With many composers around the world, one that sticks out is Louis Hector Berlioz. Hector Berlioz, oldest son of father, Louis Joseph Berlioz, and mother, Marie Antoinette was born in La CГґte Saint AndrГ©, France on December 11, 1803. His father, at a time being a massive idol for Hector, a physician and was believed to have introduced acupunctural techniques while his mother was a devout Roman Catholic, could not get Hector to have a love for classical languages. His father had wanted Hector to have an education in medicine. Berlioz was one of six siblings ;however, three had sadly died at a young age. The other two who had lived past the traumatic time were Nanci, who was younger than Hector by three years, and AdГЁle, who was the youngest and younger than Hector by eleven years. It is believed that an infuriated god in the mountain has abducted, hidden, and enslaved the children. This folklore was adapted to create a modern fiction, Spirited Away. Barnes 11/28/17 Superstition Within Petronius The Satirycon Written during the 1st century A.D., the Satyricon is often referred to as the first Roman novel. The novel has only survived for us in fragments, and for this reason it is impossible for the modern reader to reconstruct its plot completely. However, the Satyriconserves as an invaluable source of information about the daily life and language of the Roman populace. Petronius deliberately reproduces plebeian language and slang, offering a rare insight into everyday Roman life, which polished and refined works leave absent. Petronius focuses on the large social gap between the freed slaves and scholars of the time and how superstition can show that gap. The main scene that superstition is shown is during Trimalchio s Feast. The scene in the novel titled as Trimalchio s feast, describes an elaborate dinner party hosted by Trimalchio, a businessman and immigrant who gained riches in Rome without any elegance or an education fit for an aristocrat of the time. This section has been preserved more completely than some of the more fragmented chapters of the novel, its themes and motifs are able to develop more fully and be more closely understood as Petronius had originally intended. It could be interpreted within different chapters and scenes of the feast as focusing on the large social gap between Rome s freed slaves, and the well educated scholars whom they aimed to mimic. Adamowski points out parallels between Dewey Dell and Addie as she is pregnant and trying to violate the violation through an abortion. He is convinced that reason might be revealed in three principles of morality: goodwill, duty, and categorical imperative. For Kant, good goes hand in hand with will. Nothing is good except for a good will (Kant 9). For instance, courage is not good if it is used for evil purpose as hurting someone and being proud of it. However, will, the capacity to act from principle, is also related to duty. Moral worth can only be obtained if we act from duty. In other words, an action does not have a moral worth if you do not act from your duty. But, What determines our duty? The categorical imperative by Kant answer that questions and provides us with the response to What makes a moral right? or, What makes euthanasia right? He states, in his first formulation of the Categorical Imperative, that we are ought to act in a way that the maxim of our actions can become a universal law of conduct. In his second formulation, Immanuel Kant asserts that we should act in a way to behave with others, as we would like to be treated ( 229). • 26. Confucius And Confucianism Confucius s philosophical teachings about government and society discussed in the Analects revolve around morality and how a ruler and his people should act in order to stabilize society. Confucius looked to the past to discuss the problems of the present by modeling his teachings from the former Zhou empire. Confuciussought to bring back the Zhou traditions in order to better society. By linking moral behaviors to social roles and hierarchies, he emphasized that the stability of the government and society was directly correlated to the relationship between the ruler and the people. With the title Son of Heaven, the ruler was expected to act morally towards his subjects and treat them with love and concern ( Introduction to Confucian Thought , 2009). This idea is directly related to the concept of ren, which discusses the well being of others as the moral drive of society. He extended this idea into social harmony, being first and foremost embedded in the family. Confucius believed that the virtue of filial piety was the foundation for not just family life but also had implication for the ruler subject bond ( Mencius and his development of Confucian teachings , n.d.). Similarly, Mencius centered his teachings on this idea by stressing that the well being of the family directly corresponded to the well being of the state. • 27. Love Triangle In The Canterbury Tales In the Canterbury Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer, born in circa 1340 October 25, 1400, London, England.Chaucer expresses his beliefs of how should love be through the Knight s Tale and Miller s Prologue since both presents a love triangle.Chaucer on the stories shows two types of love which had similarities and differences between the characters and the events of both stories. Geoffrey Chaucer, in the text Canterbury Tale describes the lovetriangle by different types of how should be love, and I saw some similarities compared to now in how people see the love and how they show love to others. Chaucer maintain that the love triangle is represented by Duke Theseus and John the Carpenter by being the elderly authority figure because they try to control Emily and Alison,Palamon and Arcite by Knight s tale, Absolon, and Nicholas by the Miller s tale represent the suitors, they had love at first sight. Chaucer s purpose for writing this text is to compare two characters that have almost the same roles in the stories but with other names and becoming a different type of story. This text is significant to our understanding of love triangle because each one compares how love should be and these stories have some similarities with now. Early in the story, Chaucer describes two differences in how should love be as Palamon leaps out from his hiding place, calls Arcite a traitor, declares himself to be Arcite s mortal foe, and challenges him to a duel by the knight s tale and Alison and Nicholas form a plan to spend the night together by the Miller s tale. What Chaucer is saying is that in the Knight s tale love is represented as a fight between two people as a courtly love, this means that if you want have the love of a woman you need to fight to have it, Palamon and Arcite spend dangerous years trying to be near Emilye, they both face off with sword and shield to fight with hundreds of knights, but in this story Emilye don t choose which one she wants, Theseus the authority control her and say that the winner would have her, this story represents the perfect stereotype of perfect warrior and the perfect princess not showing any personalities traits and in the Miller s tale the characters have specific traits and they ... In this experiment, WT AP and MBP AP enzyme are reacted with different concentrations of PNPP substrate in SpectrovVis time based assays. From the change in absorbance over time data, and the rates of the reactions are calculated, followed by the determination of the kinetic constants. Then, the MBP AP assays are repeated with two different concentrations of phosphate inhibitor and the kinetic constants of the uninhibited enzymes are compared to those of the inhibited enzymes. Results of the experiment show that the uninhibited WT AP and MBP AP enzymes yielded expected kinetic constants according to a reference. However, the inhibited enzymes produced kinetics constants that did not resemble a competitive inhibition, which was expected. Instead, the inhibitor is observed to be a mixed inhibitor. Introduction Enzymes are biological catalysts. Without them, biological reactions will not proceed in a reasonable rate. For example, without a series of digestive enzymes, it can take 20 years to digest a hamburger. Enzyme catalyzed reactions proceed through an ES complex, in which the substrate binds to the enzyme, gets transformed into the product, and releases into the environment. For a specific enzyme, only one or a few different substrate molecules can bind in the proper manner and produce a functional ES complex. The substrate must have a size, shape, and polarity compatible with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A problem with people saving every memory of their lives is that when you look back at them, it will be hard to distinguish the treasured memories from the trash because of the huge amounts of captured memories. One of the most powerful quotes in Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk that is a good summary of existentialism and the beliefs of the movement. Existentialism was a turning point for society and literature that advocated the expansion of the minds of authors and their readers so we could improve our thinking to be more enlightened and free. The movement sparked much alternative thinking to allow our society to grow into what it is today and without it people would most likely be more close minded and less free. Existentialismwas a very influential movement with many impactful authors and will forever be remembered in history because of it s unique ideas about the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their own development through acts of the will and how it shifted a culture. Existentialism is a philosophical idea within ethics that was developed in the 19th century and progressed heavily into the 20th century. Some basic foundational ideas of existentialism are found in early Buddhist and Christian writings, which may have been the starting point for the movement. Also, like existentialism s previous philosophical ideas that came before it, it rebels against traditional Western thought that believes rationality and consciousness are the key points to understanding the human condition. • 41. Galileo Galilei Research Papers Galileo Galilei Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564, and died on January 8, 1642, from the cause of heart palpitations. He was an Italian polymath who was a central figure in the transition from natural philosophy to modern science. Most of his life was based on arguing that heliocentrism is right and geocentrism is wrong. Galileo agreed with Nicolaus that the Sun was in the center of the universe which he confirmed using the crude refracting telescope and the 20x lens. The Church disagreed with him, they didn t want their thousands of years of teaching to go down the drain in seconds and therefore he was charged with heresy twice. He also discovered that there are rings around Saturn and found out about four different moons orbiting Jupiter: Callisto, Ganymede, Io, and Europa. Galileo was born and raised in Pisa, Italy with a healthy family of two parents, and five siblings. Galileo gave private and public lessons in mathematics in Florence and Siena. Galileo is not the first scientist to postulate that the earth revolved around the sun, he definitely is the one credited to prove the Copernican theory because he was the one publicly spoke about it. At the time no one believed him except for another scientist who has seen that the earth revolves around the sun. Everyone at the time believed in geocentrism which the church had been teaching for thousands of years. • 42. Durkheim and the Relevance of His Theories in Modern Society Treat social facts as things is an expression that epitomises the works of Emile Durkheim. This essay focuses on four main sociological concepts proposed by the functionalist Emile Durkheim; the division of labour; mechanical and organic solidarity; anomie and suicide, and examines their relevance in contemporary society. Along with Marx and Weber, Durkheim is considered one of the founding members of modern sociology. He is also credited with making sociology a science through his application of scientific and empirical research. Durkheim believed that sociology should be seen as a science separate from other sciences such as psychology, by studying social facts objectively as things. (Kiviston, 2011) Through his four major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (McDonald, 2009) Organic solidarity arose as a result of the industrial revolution when society became more multifaceted and new ways of working emerged. This saw a decline in the collective conscience regarding shared morals and beliefs as society began to progress and expand. The division of labour that arises as a result of organic solidarity is complex and varied, resulting in people becoming more individualistic and yet also interdependent. Society s social bonds now centred around the fact that people were dependant on each other for the good and services required in their day to day lives. (McDonald, 2009) As organic solidarity is typical of complex, industrialised societies, Durkheim s theory is very applicable to modern life and the first world in particular. Individuality is a major feature of people living in the western world today e.g. the USA, UK, and Ireland. This is evident in our political and social thinking. Much emphasis is placed on personal rights and the belief that nothing is more important than us. (Hughes et al, 1995) Meanwhile we are not self sufficient; we rely heavily on the expertise of thousands globally to live our daily lives e.g. the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the cars we drive etc. (Macionis and Plummer, 2005) A huge increase in individualism came about because of organic solidarity resulting in a breakdown of moral and ethical boundaries ... • 45. The Criminal Justice System Deals With The Risk And... Critically evaluate the ways in which the criminal justice system deals with the risk and management of sex offenders. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), from December 2013 to December 2014, the amount of recorded sexual offences has risen by 32 percent to 80,262 for England and Wales (ONS, 2015:13). The most serious cases of sex offending will result in a custodial sentence. From 2005 to 2011 the proportion of offenders who received a custodial sentence for committing sexual offences is between 55 and 59 percent (ibid, 41). Custody is an immediate way of protecting the public from the future risks posed by a serious sexual offender. However, at some point of the offender s custodial sentence, it is likely that they will be granted their right to parole; and eventually will be released into the community. Furthermore, the less serious sexual offenders who receive suspended sentences, community sentences, or fines are also dealt with in the community and therefore put the public at immediate risk of harm. Although the risks can never be fully eliminated, it is extremely important that the amount of risk imposed on society is kept to a minimum (Harrison, 2011:78). This essay will focus on the Violent and Sex Offenders Register (ViSOR) and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), and evaluate their effectiveness on minimising the risk of harm to the public. One method that the CJS uses to reduce risk is the Sex Offenders Register, which was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. William Penn American Hero Essay Should William Penn be a heroic figure to American history? Throughout British proprietary colonization of the Americas, there were many different motives for claiming American soil by those whom were audacious enough to consider the prospect of funding a distant statehood. Penn claimed to see his colony as a holy experiment (page XIII); who differed from its peers in the respect that it had intent to provide refuge to those whom faced religious persecution, even so, the devout Quaker, eventually allowed to fall into a state of neglect and sink to the level of its peers. In lay man s terms, all considered Penn one hundred percent English, with no relationship to the American revolutionaries of the United States whose actions would take place more than a hundred years after his. While Penn may have claimed his colony to be a holy experiment , his actions communicated otherwise. When Penn received his charter from Charles II he saw further potential for and many probable afforded opportunities for personal gain from establishing dominion over territories over one of the many virgin lands in one of the new worlds. Penn s ledger from the throne implanted the idea of escaping his own previously established personal debts, as well as enlarging his overall holdings in real estate and land, especially one not subject to the high taxes and economic cost which land in mainland England cost at the time. When Penn received his ledger, the idea of establishing a land of religious tolerance for all those persecuted by those less open minded in the east seemed a very appealing thought to many. Penn, however, knew that he had a far better chance of obtaining American real estate than English. He recognized his charter as a means of enlarging his property holdings and his way out of personals debt (page 122). • 48. The Minister s Black Veil Analysis Nobody s perfect! In the Minister s Black Veil, Mr. Hooper wears the black veil to symbolize hidden sins among the townspeople and himself. The veil acted as a mirror, making all the townspeople more aware of their own sins. The more aware they became of their own sinful nature, the more uncomfortable they became with themselves. Being around the minister and seeing his veil troubled them deeply, even during joyful times. Truth is, the article states no specific reason as to why he wears the veil. This allows the reader to speculate as to what the reasoning was for the black veil. As it says in the text in lines 127 130 Something must surely be amiss with Mr. Hooper s intellects. But the strangest part of the affair is the effect of this vagary. The physician is stating that Hooper must be out of his mind, but whatever he is doing is having an odd effect on the people. This proves that Hooper s reason for the black veil is not only for himself, but also as a symbol for the people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
