Anthem For Doomed Youth Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "Anthem for Doomed Youth" can prove to be a challenging yet
intellectually stimulating task. Wilfred Owen's poignant poem delves into the horrors of war,
exploring the devastating impact on young lives. To effectively capture the essence of the poem,
one must possess a profound understanding of literary devices, historical context, and the poet's
personal experiences.
Analyzing the intricate layers of "Anthem for Doomed Youth" requires a keen eye for detail and
an ability to dissect Owen's use of language, symbolism, and structure. The essay demands a
thoughtful exploration of the poem's themes, such as the futility of war, the dehumanization of
soldiers, and the contrasting imagery of traditional funeral rites with the chaotic reality of battle.
Moreover, delving into the historical backdrop of World War I is essential for contextualizing
Owen's work. Understanding the societal, political, and cultural factors that influenced the poet
adds depth to the analysis, providing a comprehensive perspective on the poem's significance.
To excel in crafting an essay on this topic, one must also possess strong analytical and critical
thinking skills. Interpreting the poet's intentions, evaluating the impact of his words, and
presenting a cohesive argument require a nuanced approach.
In conclusion, composing an essay on "Anthem for Doomed Youth" demands a blend of literary
acumen, historical awareness, and analytical prowess. It is a task that challenges writers to
navigate the emotional terrain of war poetry while articulating their insights with clarity and
coherence.

Impact of WWII Essay
Impact of WWII
World War II had a definite impact on the United States. It changed how people
lived and how other people were viewed. Not many people realize the treatment of
people from our own country during World War II. Three groups of people that
were affected were women, African Americans, and Japanese Americans. The lives
of these people were changed drastically, whether by having to work, mistreatment
because of skin color, or by being blamed for something that was done by a country
they were native to. Prior to World War II, employers and the government held that
there were jobs appropriate for women and jobs which were inappropriate because
women were not capable of fulfilling the tasks involved in such work. As we ... Show

African Americans were discriminated against even though they were serving their
country. Like we discussed in class, some African Americans were lynched in public
while dressed in their military uniform. Many were severely beaten almost to death.
They were treated with no respect. As I looked through my notes I found that African
Americans were grouped together in combat and often were given missions that could
have been considered suicidal. Although the blacks were treated poorly, it seems that
the Japanese Americans got the raw end of the deal during the war. Shortly after the
United States entered into war with Japan, the federal government initiated a policy
whereby 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry were rounded up and herded into
camps, 2/3 of these people were actually United States citizens. They were
incarcerated without indictment, trial, or counsel not because they had committed a
crime, but simply because they resembled the enemy. These were similar to
concentration camps that the Germans were using for the Jews, though no one was
being killed and Japanese Americans were allowed to work within the camps. Not
many Americans knew about the camps at that time, and some still don t know
today. Like discussed in class, it was an embarrassing moment for this country. The
book that was assigned in class, Desert Exile by Yoshiko Uchida, told the story of a
family who lived through these horrible times. As we discussed in class
History Of The Age Of Exploration
The age of exploration was a time in the 1400s when European ships went on trips
to find new trades and trading aliases to pay for the capitalism in Europe. The age
of exploration connects to the renaissance because people were getting new trades
and discovering new places, which connects to the theme of the rebirth of the
renaissance. Three of the key explorers of that time period were Ferdinand Magellan,
John Cabot, and Cristoforo Colombo, and some of them were heroes and some were
villains.
Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer who explored a western sea route to
the Spice Islands. He split up three ships so that they divide and conquer most of the
different branches of the channel to see if it would go to the west. In November 27, ...

he was not in asia, but in a new land. He quickly got rid of this claim. He spent
some of the third trip exploring, but when he got back to Spain to govern his
colonists, he started to develope some problems. They got mad with his leadership.
He was a very cruel governor, and he inflicted many terrible punishments, and
everyone thought that he was lying to them about the wealth of the new islands.
The rulers of spain agreed with them, and hired a new governor, Francisco de

he was terrible to the natives, and he was very unfair and cruel to his colonists.
Christopher Columbus did sail across the atlantic ocean to the americas, but he was

could claim it for himself. He also was captured as a prisoner on a boat from his new

Explore how and why the English Language has changed.
The English Language has changed over a long period of time due to a number of
different factors which have had different effects on how the Language has
progressed. Language is seen to have progressed through different stages, from Old
English (beginning in the 3rd century and including the invasions of the Anglo
Saxons, which led to the creation of Englisc) through to Middle English (which may
have begun in the 11th century with the rule of the Vikings, which introduced
variations on the previous Anglo Saxon pronunciation and speech. The French
invasions in 1066 also affected the language as the ruling classes spoke the prestige

One such rule is that sentences should not end in a preposition, for example the
chair was sat on , which is a result of Latin languages could not accommodate for
this. This was their basis for the construction of English. Other rules include the
usage of double negatives and split infinitives, in which an adverb is put in between
the preposition to and the base verb. For example to boldly go .
Descriptivism is the opposite view to that of the Grammarians. Descriptivism states
that Language should be allowed to progress over time and that new words should
be introduced as they appear, and old words should be allowed to disappear through
lack of use. Descriptivism would allow the use of more modern American spellings
such as sulfur to replace their original English counterparts, simply because they are
more widely used.
The change in syntax over time has shifted greatly, and language has been altered
because of it. For example syntax used to be the Subject, Object, Verb order, as
opposed to the Subject, Verb, Object order that we use nowadays. The complexity
of sentences has also, changed, with Middle and Early Modern English writers
using longer complex sentences with varied clauses and clause lengths, and Modern
English writers using short, less complex sentences with less clauses and simpler,
easier to read clause lengths and variations. The language has also become more
simplified in terms of inflections. These were removed because the system for adding
Training Employees On Hazardous Materials. Hazardous...
Training Employees on Hazardous Materials Hazardous materials are a very
important part of our environment and workplace. They can cause environmental
issues or they could even cause hurt to humans and animals. However, HAZMAT is
needed for production in some workplaces. There are many businesses that do not
train their employees properly or not at all on hazardous materials. Anyone
transferring, using, touching, or working with hazardous materials should be trained
so they know what to do in case of a serious incident. Not even that, it is just
important to know what kind of hazardous material they are transporting. There are a

There were 14 employees who did not have any training on HAZMAT. There is
also another incident that states a company failed to properly train their
employees on how to properly package and label HAZMAT product which caused
acceptance of cargo on an airplane that should have not been accepted. These are
just a couple of incidents that discussed in this press release. If those employees
would have been trained, there may not have been a safety incident that caused
fines to these companies. The worst part is, is the employees had no idea what to do
in any of these incidents. They could have been hurt or even caused harm against
others and it would not have necessarily been their fault. One way to reduce these
incidents is risk management. Risk management is a program to reduce risks in a
business in any way possible by forecasting and evaluating. According to the US
Department of Transportation, the Hazardous Materials Safety Program is,
designed to reduce the probability and quantity of hazardous material released and
mitigate release consequences (DOT, 1998, p. 4). This program gives guidelines as
well as consequences. It gives ideas for future and how to plan for an incident. This
guideline also gives ideas of developing the risks and how safe can you be and is
there any other plans to use to become safer. It is always a good idea to be as safe as
possible and you can never be safe enough.

media manipulate images to alter the look of their subjects and how this can impact
on society. I will address the issues surrounding Photoshop manipulation and look at
both the positives and negatives with regards to how this is used in the media.
Thomas and John Knoll are the creators of what one might say to be a controversial
and innovative piece of software named Adobe Photoshop . Adobe Photoshop has
been the main piece of software since it s initial release in 1990 to give a user the
power to apply sharper and/or a surreal look to an image that they have photographed.

For example, young teenage girls generally, will view media on a regular basis, more
specifically, fashion and beauty, as they are the target audiencefor these given topics.
With this being said, young teenage girls become more naive with regards to
celebrities in the fashion and beauty industry, and typically idolize. Furthermore, they
personally identify themselves with said celebrities, and admire them.
Nowadays, more often than not, images will be altered with Photoshop, making
celebrities and models look thinner, taller, and completely unblemished with perfect
white teeth and bodily curves. Seemingly perfect . Thus meaning that society are

Magazine publishers such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Glamour, have come to the
point where not using Photoshop becomes alien to them. To these organisations,
editing is basically a mandatory process where the images they use simply go
through the manipulation process to make women look perfect , even if they are
already naturally beautiful. What these organisations are trying to say is, no woman
is perfect and will always need a touch of alteration with online software. This is
done simply because they want their magazine to look as professional as possible.
By doing this, it increases the percentage of units sold of their magazine, therefore,

The Iranian Nuclear Deal And Iran
Ali Larijani, the current speaker of the Iranian parliament, gave npr an interview
detailing his opinions on the new nuclear deal with Iran. Larijani finds the deal
acceptable...not looking at the specifics...looking at the whole picture ( Larijani).
In other words, Larijani believes that the nuclear accord as it has been struck, has it
flaws and is in no way a perfect pact. He views it as more of a placeholder, a sign of
better things to come. The real test of this deal, in both Larijani and his country s

The matter was taken to the United Nations Security Council, and a program of
sanctions against Iran was approved ( Iran Nuclear Deal 1). No significant
negotiated deal was reached with Iran on its nuclear program until the JPA in
2014. The JPA requires Iran to remove two thirds of its installed centrifuges and
reduce its current stockpile of enriched uranium by 98 percent ( Iran Nuclear Deal
1). The hope behind this is that Iran will have a vastly increased timeframe in which
they would be able to produce a viable nuclear weapon. That increase in time needed
to produce a bomb plus increased transparency to nuclear inspectors, not only to
Iranian nuclear facilities, but to...uranium mills....the centrifuge production and
storage facilities , would kill Iran s quest for a nuclear weapon before it could truly
begin ( Obama A Historic Understanding 1). In return, some sanctions on Iran are
lifted and they are able to rejoin the international economic community.
The JPA will prove advantageous to Iran s economy as the lifting of economic
sanctions and the unfreezing of Iranian foreign assets are a key stipulation. For
decades, the United States had attempted to influence Iran s nuclear regime through
economic sanctions, meaning no trade or transfer of
Diversity In America Essay
We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we
are all human race Kofi Annan. This quote said by Kofi Annan explains perfectly
how not all people have to be of the same background or even the same culture but

working on rights for all by making it more convenient for people who do not speak

country, it can be argued that diversity creates unity because today the US is a

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is on the Raise Essay
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is defined as mental health disorder
triggered by a terrifying event (Mayo Clinic). This ordeal could be the result of
some sort of physical harm or threat to the individual, family members, friends or
even strangers (NIMH). While PTSD is typically associated with someone who has
served in the military, it can affect more than just that genre of individuals. It could
affect rapevictims, victims in a terrorist or natural disaster incident, nurses, doctors,
and police and fire personnel and bystanders. PTSDcan manifest itself in many forms.

Of those who do, 8% of men and 20% of women will develop Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder (August 2013).A study was done on 810 nurses from a University
hospital by having them fill out a detailed questionnaire. Of the 810 nurses, 332
responded by completing their questionnaire. The results showed that 22% had
symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and 61% met the diagnostic criteria
of PTSD (Depressed Anxiety, 2009). This study shows a high rate of PTSD
among nurses but the percentages could be higher due to many not reporting or
admitting they have symptoms. Another study done in Australia showed that
nurses in remote areas are more likely to experience violent crimes in the
workplace which can lead to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In this study 349
nurses working in remote areas of Australia responded. 88.5% were female in the
age range of 20 68 years. In the 12 months preceding the survey, the workplace
violence incidents that were the highest are verbal aggression (79.5%), property
damage (31.6%), and physical violence (28.6%) (trends in workplace violence in
remote areas). This survey provides a statistically significant correlation between
workplace violence and PTSD symptoms. It is no surprise that Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder is on the rise and is considered an occupational hazard for nurses. The
National Institute of Mental Health calculates that 7.7 million adults or 3.5 % of the

Le Morte DArthur, And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, and the Gawain Poet s Sir Gawain and the
Green Knight are important works that should be considered when studying medieval
literature. They both portray the style and structure of medieval romance. They also
tackle the same topic of King Arthur and his knights, as well as share the same
characters of King Arthurand Sir Gawain. In order to be able to go over these works
and understand them, one must understand the aspects of literature of the time.
There are some aspects found in almost all literary works written in the medieval
times, some of which are influenced by everyday life, problems, religion, and
politics. For example, the French invasion of England, known as the Norman
Conquest, greatly influenced the language of the time. At first, England was ruled by
the Anglo Saxons, and used Old English in their literature, even though they did not
write much. With the invasion of the French, Anglo Saxon language was not
considered appropriate, and so they introduce a new easier dialect, which came to be
known as Middle English. This became the language they used to write, and the act
of writing itself became more abundant. Moreover, the conquest resulted in an
increasing tension between England and France. This tension is apparent in many
works of the time, including Le Morte d Arthur . For example, the depiction of Sir
Launcelot as the greatest knight of all time in several romances. Also, Sir Gawain
and the Green Knight has roots

Advances in Animation and Their Effects on Modern Cinema Animation has been a
huge contributor to today s media when it comes to movies and televisions
programing. For decades, using a series of images to create the illusion of movement,
has evolved into billion dollar industries for entertainment. Animated movies are in a
completely different league of their own and, no matter how simple they may seem,
require a sufficient amount of technique as well as technology. Even live action
movies use some form of animationin order to create worlds that could have never

They both have their place in modern media, and they both have their own
attributes. In order to fully understand the magnitude of how much of a gap in
popularity there is between these two different techniques in animating there must
be clear statistics that show proof how these movies fair in the box offices. For
instance, take a look at Disney s Princess and the Frog which was a traditionally
animated film. It had done well when it came to what movie critics had to say
about it, however, it failed in comparison to Pixar at the box office with a return of
only $267million (Child n.p). The newest adaption to Winnie the Pooh also
received wonderful reviews from critics but was only able to bring in $33million
worldwide (Child n.p). Take these two movies and compare them to Bolt (2009)
and Tangled (2010) which grossed $310million and $590million individually (Child
n.p). That doesn t necessarily make Princess and the Frog and Winnie the Pooh bad
movies; critics seemed to think they were just fine. However there is a clear gap
between the money made by the CGI films and the hand drawn films. Furthermore,
the matter of whether or not they were both made by different companies is of the
question seeing as how all four films were produced by Disney. Traditional animation
, using hand drawn images, has been successful for many decades and

Reading through this text allowed me to put myself in the position of a what it was

The part in the reading that I went wow was when the child was scared of an African

angry but he was shivering because he was cold. The white race didn t even
consider the fact that the black man is a human being that could also be affected
by the cold weather but they rather go for the myth and unjust judgments that are
negative as Fanon stated further in the reading, Negroes are savages, brutes,
illiterates...there was a myth of the Negro that had to be destroyed at all costs
(261). The myths that go around in a society of one race leads to people that doesn

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington Essays
Mr. Smith is portrayed as an honest man with strong opinions. He is the ideal
politician in an ideal society. The film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington depicts a
reassuring image that happens to be an image of the past (Wheeler). However, in
today s legislature, people like Mr. Smith are rare due to the fact that a politician s
primary goal is re election. The good of the people may come as another intention
of a politician, but it is always secondary to bringing home the pork. There should be
more people like Mr. Smith because the legislature would be able to make decisions
more effectively and efficiently, rather than how slowly they currently operate. This

Taylor, a special interest group member, controlled everything Senator Paine did
until he finally decided to change. This denotes the impact that wealth can have in
the government. The system is designed so that things such as pork barreling can
pass and sometimes need to pass in order for a law to go through. This creates a
system of lies and corruption, with members of the Senate not looking out for the
national good. Senators are forced to focus on improving their own district
because it is all they can do to ensure re election. The most successful Senators do
this because it gains short term approval from their district and gets them a future
vote. This is a method of maintaining their career, and is something they are in
some cases forced to do. If someone like Mr. Smith came in and was consistently
free of corruption, people would vote for him based on his truthfulness. The

Since the 1960s plastics are made using bisphenol A, an industrial chemical which
until recently did not raise any concern. Research shows that BPA; being used to
make plastic and resins, coating the inside of metal products, raised major health
concerns (FactsAboutBPA.org. 2015) .Exposure to BPA is a concern because of the
possible effects it has on the adult brain and the behaviour of infants.
A study by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2003
concluded that there were noticeably higher levels of BPA found in 93% of 2,517
urine samples taken by people over the age of six. This particular date is considered
the main source for further action in the United States. Because BPA is used in the

He published The Theory of Moral Sentiments which was a book about how human
morality depends on sympathy between agent and spectator. This meant that he didn t
think humans had but morality sense but they had a mutual sympathy. After this
publication many wealthy students left their schools to go to the school Smith had
attended. He began to give more lectures about economics than morality after he
became popular. He believed that a nations wealth was decided by it labor instead
of the quantity of gold and silver a nation had which supported a theory called
mercantilism that dominated Western European economic policies at the time. He
eventually wrote a book about this that was called An Inquiry into the Nature and
Causes of the Wealth of Nations . Debates between classical and neoclassical

A Brief Note On The Arab Israeli War
Modern Essay Arab and Israeli Conflict
The Middle Eastern area has experienced and suffered more conflict and blood
shed than probably any part of the world. The Arab Israeli war in 1948 was the
first step of a century of bloody and hostile conflicts. The Arab Israeli war was
caused by a number of factors both intraregional and international, which created a
catalyst of war through a complex situation. This was triggered by Israel s
independence declaration in 14 May 1948; in the Arab Israeli war the victor was
Israel. During this essay the following will be discussed: Zionism, Arab nationalism,
and British foreign policy these I believe are the three key causes of the 1948 war.
The reason for choosing not just one of these factors to ... Show more content on

Furthermore the idea that anti Semitism could only be overcome by physical
separation from Europe and by self determination (Schulze 1999, p. 1) is what is
believed to have made Zionism so popular in the first place. The religious and
cultural background to the Land of Israel made Palestine the most logical territorial
claim and was perceived as the only viable and permanent solution to the problem
of the Jews. This idea of Zionism advertised the belief that Jews were given
Palestine by God himself that is was their right and this fuelled their fight in
pursuing their God given right. Meanwhile, with news of Hitler and the holocaust in
Europe beginning to spread, this event only generated an intense determination to
create a Jewish state. But with the Palestinian leadership actively supporting the
Nazis during WWII it had created more conflict between the Arabs and Jews.
Without the Jews flocking from Europe because of the Holocaust and the idea of
Zionism, Arab Israeli conflicts may never have occurred to such an extremist level.
As the Jews perhaps would have not had enough organisation and support to fight
back against the Arabs and the desperate desire to create a Jewish state with nothing
to lose.
Modern Arab nationalism began at the end of the eighteenth century, majority as
opposition to the European colonialism (British), which the Arabs believed was
superfluous in its attainment (Schulze 1999, pp. 2 3). Arab

Summary Of Brave New World By Charles Dudley Warner
Essay
Ethicality in Conformity
We are half ruined by conformity, but we should be wholly ruined without it . The
aforementioned quote by Charles Dudley Warner appears to parallel the views on
conformity Aldous Huxley created in his novel Brave New World . Conformity,
and with this, stability, in Huxley s world is only possible with the excessive use of
conditioning and the hyper cloning of zygotes called Bokanovsky s Process .
Conditioning is not something created in Brave New World. Behaviorists like Ivan
Pavlov and John B. Watson performed conditioning experiments on dogs and even
children (in respective order). However, Huxley created a society where people s
lives are predetermined even before conception. This stimulates the question: Is
mindless conformity ethical? . Bokanovsky s Process is described as being able to
[make] ninety six human beings grow where only one grew before (Huxley 6). Th
is, in turn, is one of the major instruments of social stability (7). The people created
by Bokanovsky s Process is also described, by Mustapha Mond, one of the World
Controllers , as the gyroscope that stabilizes the rocket plane of state on its
unswerving course.... We believe in happiness and stability (222). Here, Mustapha
illustrates that Bokanovsky s Process not only stabilizes society, and creates a system
of mindless conformity, but also perpetuates happiness. Happiness, in the
Bokanovsky influenced realm, also pairs itself with the extensive conditioning the

INTRODUCTION OF YOUTH SUBCULTURE PUNK In this essay, I will be
discussing about a social group that took fashion to the next level and create a huge
impact in British history were the punks culture during the late nineteen seventies.
The punk cultures were to rebel against the government during the great depression

kids felt outcast from the British culture, foreseeing their lives with little prospect

training is a good start for you, but you can t forget to potty train or your fun and
exciting experiences with your puppy can turn into a nightmare. So if you want a

To begin with this process, you might want to pick a potty spot. You should
probably do this before you bring your new puppy home. Pick one spot outside and
when you bring your pup out take her directly there. Dogs are animals of habit, if
you do this consistently your pup will prefer to go there than in any other spot.

Do not punish the dog if she poops and pees inside. If she gets punished, she will not
understand why she got punished. If you catch her in the act interrupt her with a
noise like Ah! Ah! or clap your hands. Don t get too emotional with your
interruption. Once you interrupt her grab her by the collar and take her outside to
her potty spot. If she goes praise her, if not, then supervise her better next time. It
can be frustrating at times, but don t hit her or rub her nose in her mess, because
she will then be scared of doing her business in front of you inside or outside. This
will result in her instead of peeing on the carpet in plain sight, she will go hide
somewhere where she thinks you can t see her, which isn t good This is the
process of potty training your new puppy. This process might take 1 2 weeks or 1

puppy has. Remember not to punish her for her mistakes because she will get
scared of you and see you as a crazy person. Also remember to praise her when she
does good with a reward that she likes. Once she is trained you can have fun with your

Antigone is an ancient Greek play of classic literature. The play deals with Antigone
brother s burial Polynices in rebelliousness of the decree of Creon and the nation.
Creon is the ruler who dominates Thebes, and there were tragic consequences for
public defiance from Antigone. Antigone brothers had different principles from Creon

Discontent Expressed through Blues, Jazz, Reggae, and Hip hop
In cultures all over the world, music can be seen encompassing many aspects of
life for many individuals. It is a form of mass communication that speaks directly
to society as a cultural form , and often reflects a collection and pattern of personal
experiences (King 19). Music is so influential because it communicates on three
different levels: the physical, emotional, and cognitive. Not only does it operate in
a nondiscursive way, by affecting the physiological mode of the body, causing one
to move and dance, but it also encourages one to think. This paper will explore
music as a form of protest; showing how a political message, in general form, is

It was shaped by social and political oppression and it reflects a defiant attitude
toward life. The blues represents survival during hard times and it tells the basic
facts of life. As can be seen in the music, there is an emphasis on the immediacy of
life, the nature of man, and human survival... formed from a history of mental and
physical hardships (Spencer 39).
It is a direct expression of the post slavery world view, linked to freeing the
individual spirit.
The old blues redefined America s traditional values, and led to the vision of a new
establishment (Spencer 56). It directly spoke out against white America and the
Puritan ethos that was forced upon the slaves for centuries. The lyrics helped release
America from the moral prison of this Puritanism, and questioned the morality of
Christianity and white society. In the music, there is an emphasis on unity, with the
joining of man and woman together, and their ultimate triumph over the machine
(Spencer 57).
Despite the obvious separation between the blues and the church, the blues is often
seen as a secular religion , as well as a form of art and modern mythology (Spencer
55). In comparing the blues singer to a preacher, Charles Keil states, Blues singers
and preachers both provide models and
Confessional Nature Of Anne Sexton Poetry
1. Introduction
Since life writing has become a major trend, a new light has been shed on
confessional artists. The impact which their personal experience had on their work
has been more carefully examined and evaluated, as a literary recording of self
became their token of recognition. Anne Sexton, one of the leading poets of the
confessional trend, is not an exception, her literary heritage and inclusion at to the
mode being, however, equivocal. Sexton s texts require from their readers a deep
insight into a number of contexts where they are firmly anchored. The emanation of
self was a reason for the poet to start writing, a key concept in her poems, and,
eventually, one of the factors causing her self destruction. Even Sexton s late work, ...

Heavy drinker as he was, Anne s father neglected his parenting duties, whereas her
mother, an elusive and indifferent person, would have rather passed on the care of the
children to nannies. Craving for her attention and acceptance, Anne would become
receptive to her mother s moods and extremely susceptible to criticism, which would
shape the poet s future character, as well as enhance her inferiority complex. Taking
into consideration the confessional nature of Sexton s poetry, critics and readers have
been suspecting other pathologies in her family history, for some poems deal with
the problem of incest. Nevertheless, Anne s relatives and later psychiatrists have
unanimously denied these assumptions indicating that her numerous mental
disorders caused memory failures. The poet s forging of her biography and her
psychiatric ailments will be elaborated on in the chapters to follow. As an outsider
and rebel, Anne received wide recognition among peers in her teenage years. She
became attractive and thoroughly aware of her sexuality which, together with her
biting language, was considered inappropriate in a conservative circle and caused
her troubles. To make her time pass more pleasantly, Anne was busy with fleeting
flirtations, but did not engage in any artistic activities or other interests. In fact,
she led a type of life she despised; her youth was shallow and all she had in prospect
was the lot of a housewife. Little did she know, however, about this role in 1948
when she met her future husband, Alfred Sexton, whom she married in the fear of
being pregnant. As she later admitted, Before I was married I had never washed
one dish or seen how you fried an egg or baked a potato (Middlebrook 1991: 23).
Anne had had some minor professional experience in modeling, but being a wife, she
was spending her time idly, overwhelmed by listlessness and exasperation. To
alleviate her boredom, she became

The Puritans Religious Beliefs
A group of people called the Puritans desired a new way of life, Puritans desired
something that would follow the ways of the ancient Israelites, so they started their
own Christian denomination which was looked down upon. The Puritans needed a
religion that focuses on the time of God and beliefs people had in his time. The
study of the Old Testament and the understanding that their destination after death is
confirmed by their actions in their lifetime is their main focus. Everyday was a new
day to live and worship God in hopes of salvation. Puritans thrived for purity and
simplicity in their daily lives in hope of sinless lives. The Puritanchurch believed in
the reformation of the Church of England, the doctrine of predestination displaying
in their daily lives, and the guidance of their ministers. The Puritans established in
England. A group of believers desired reformation in the Church of England. Many
people from the Church of England disagreed with this wish. The group decided to
flee from England. If they couldn t reform the church, their plan was to leave.
Puritans needed to the opportunity to worship freely and openly. They wanted to be
able to believe what they wanted without the Church of England over them. Puritan
beliefs were very different than most other religions. America, the new world,
offered a chance for them to start the religion they demanded for. The Puritans
headed for the new world, America. This was a new start and a chance for

Small circular pieces of DNA molecules located inside the nucleoid in bacterial

forming into its own small colonies. No growth is also a possible outcome.
The experiment contained a total of six different petri dishes, each containing
different treatments to the E. coli.
The first petri dish held ampicillin resistance gene, luria broth and E. Coli. This
served as a positive control since there
was basically nothing to stop the E. Coli from growing. The petri dish containing
E.Coli, Luria Broth and ampicillin
with no plasmids provided us with the opposite results. There was no growth. Since
there were no plasmids in the dish
all the E. Coli died hence showing no growth.
In general E. Coli growth was directly proportional to the presence of ampicillin. If it
so happens there was
ampicillin in a petri dish with either the lux or ampicillin resistance gene, the result
would depict a colonial growth.
This is because the ampicillin and plasmid attack one another hence some die and the
others live. On the other hand if
there no ampicillin presents the petri dish would depict a lawn growth, because there
is no ampicillin there to replicate.
Introduction
We began the experiment by adding plasmids, a vector, to the bacteria E. Coli to
see the E. Coli growth with the plasmids in its DNA. Our results will conclude for
us the correlation between the transformation of a plasmid and the growth of E. Coli.

Analysis Of The Lake Isle Of Innisfree
The Unreachable Lake Isle of Innisfree
The Lake Isle of Innisfree is a three quatrain lyric poem penned by the recognized
poet W.B. Yeats. At first glace, the poem appears to be about the speakers
intentions of leaving the busy city he is currently residing in to live on an Irish
plot of land he refers to as Innisfree. Within the poem, the speaker describes
Innisfree in great depth and places immense emphasis on the smallest details. This
way of speaking suggests that Innisfree is not a physical place, but more so a
representation of the speakers internal desires. W.B. Yeats uses a variety of poetic
tools to make this evident. There are several examples of these tools and they are
primarily found in structure, imagery, or symbolism. Through the use of these tools,
Yeats is implies that Innisfree is a place of imaginative creation, rather than being an
actual location. With that being, Innisfree is the speakers happy place
W.B. Yeats The Lake Isle of Innisfree is written in a specific rhyme schemewhich is
used primarily to depict an extra layer of emotion. In this example, the emotions being
presented are the sentiments that the speaker feels towards Innisfree. This rhyme
scheme follows an ABAB pattern, indicating that the last word of each second line
in a stanza rhymes with the last word of each third line. I will arise and go now, and

Visual Art During The Middle Ages And The Renaissance
IWT1 TASK1
Visual Art in The Middle Ages and The Renaissance
The Middle Ages spanned from 400 to 1400 A.D. During this period, often referred
to as the Medieval Period, began after the fall of the Roman Empire. After Rome fell
Europeans found that they no longer had a single state or government and they
turned to the Catholic Church which soon became the most powerful institution of
the era. Throughout the Medieval Period Kings, Queens and other leaders relied on
their alliances with the church for much of their power.
In the Middle Ages religion was so central to society that small villages were built
around churches and in larger towns the community s resources were spent on
building huge cathedrals. These communities relied on the church to provide them
with basic social services and protection as well as spiritual guidance. Art during
The Middle Ages was used as a way to teach because so few people could read. The
church used art to aid in the telling of spiritual stories and to provide important
symbolism to the people.
Medieval period art was influenced by the Roman Empire, Christian iconography and
the Byzantine culture of the Middle East. A common trait of medieval art was to
show important figures as larger than other figures around them. These figures
showed little emotion. Their expressions were serious and the figures themselves
seemed stiff and two dimensional. Most of these traits were consistent with the use of
art for religious edification and as such most
Pandora Stakeholders
The stakeholders in the problem involved are: в—ЏPandora: Pandora s business is
directly affected due to the allegations laid on it (Dolmetsch, Fixmer, 2014). The
company s shares fell 1.2 percent to $27.02 as a result of the accusations and the
case filed against it (Dolmetsch, Fixmer, 2014). This was directly opposite from the
last year, when it s stockprices had more than doubled the last year (Dolmetsch,
Fixmer, 2014). The case, if unresolved, would directly affect its stocks in the future
too.
в—ЏArtists: Steve Cropper, a songwriter and guitarist said that the lack of
compensation was an injustice that boggles the mind (Dolmetsch, Fixmer, 2014). As
Pandora was not paying any royalties for the songs made before 1972, artists had a ...

Pandora lobbied for IRFA to generate the support of congress and public to
decrease the amount of royalties they pay to performance rights organizations,
such as ASCAP, BMI, and SoundExchange (De Braganca, 2013; Peoples, 2013;

that they use for satellite and cable radio (De Braganca, 2013). If IRFA gets passed
by the U.S. government, then internet radios like Pandora will only pay 1.7% of

Pandora decided to stop supporting IRFA due to heavy opposition from ASCAP,

A New Generation Of Workers
A new generation of workers are in the midst of taking over the workforce:
Generation Y, also known as the Millennials. Baby boomers are ending their
employment life cycle and transitioning into retirement, leaving Millennials as the
soon to be dominant generation in the workforce. By 2020, more than 46% of
labour will be provided by these millennials. (Weber, 2016) As this transition
begins, a new trend within the workforce has also begun. Modern workers are no
longer spending their entire career with one employer. In fact, according to data
from the Bureau of Labour Statistics, the average worker today only stays at each
of his or her jobs for 4.4 years. However, the expected tenure of the workforce s
youngest employees is about half of that. Ninety one percent of Millennials (born
between 1977 1997) expect to stay in a job for less than three years, meaning they
would have 15 to 20 jobs over the course of their working lives. (Meister, 2012)
With career development and work life balance on the forefront of the millennial
mind, gone is the era of employers using base salary in order to compete for the
worker talent pool. They now have to consider the total compensation package,
which includes all forms of money, benefits, services, and other perks eligible to the
employee when competing with other firms, as modern employees have begun to
place just as strong of an importance on benefits as they do salary. The various
benefit packages offered by employers play a

Coon Dogs Theme
The theme I used in the last one didn t tie into the story as much but the new quote
is about perseverance and it does tie into the story. The way the new theme ties
into the story is how Billy is determined to get both of the coon dogs and everyday
he slowly progressed even more and he tried again tomorrow, and the day after,
until he got enough money to get the coon dogs (Which took him two years). In
one scene, Billy shows that he is determined to get the coon dogs and works really
hard everyday for two whole years until he got the coon dogs that he dreamed of
having (Billy had puppy love). Billy finally got the coon dogs and he knows it was
worth the two years he worked. In the next section of Red Fern, when Billy started
training his coon dogs, he wanted to get some raccoons but Big Dan and Little Ann
were scared of water so he was determined to train them. Little Ann was scared of
gunshots though but Big Dan was fine. So, Billy kept firing gunshots in the air with
Little Ann and slowly, Little Ann calmed down and she wasn t so scared of gunshots
anymore. Billy was really determined to make his dogs brave enough to hunt coons
more efficiently and soon enough, they chased coons without being scared of water
or gunshots.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He made a bet with Reuben that who could get the Ghost Coon the fastest. Billy
was determined and tried to get the Ghost Coon, but a huge turn of events
happened. Reuben stepped on the end of the handle of the axe and it plunged into
his stomach. The details of how he died was gruesome, blood was coming out of
his mouth and he was slowly dying from severe blood loss. Billy found out about a
tournament for his coon dogs and decided to enter it. He was determined to win
Conformity In Cults
Outcome:
A total of 74 members of Order of the Solar Temple died from various mass murder
suicides between 1994 and 1997 in Switzerland, Canada and France. The first
known instance was the murder of Tony Dutroit and his wife and son. Dutroit was a
member of the cult, but spoke out against it upon realising its hypocrisy and
deception and left. Soon after, he, his wife Nicky and son Emmanuel were the
victims of a grisly murder in Morin Heights, QuГ©bec, committed by members of the
cult. It was believed that this was upon Di Mambro s orders, apparently on the basis
that Emmanuel was the Antichrist and had come to stop Di Mambro from doing his
spiritual bidding, but evidence shows that it might be due to Dutoit s unwarranted

In OST, Di Mambro and Jouret were generally very forceful and powerful leaders
and prominent authority figures within the cult, as they were the sources of the
teachings the entire cult was centred around; while in the presence of such
authoritative figures, followers would have been under great pressure to obey
them. Jouret in particular had a strong air of credibility to his teachings, due to his
doctor s degree and his charismatic personality, which would have made it very easy
to follow orders from him. The leaders managed to strip followers of all their
money and force them to adhere to strict rules, and there is evidence of them
ordering followers to stockpile weapons or even kill on their behalf. Another
example of the cult s obedience was Jouret s obsession with sex, which caused his
tendency to have intercourse with one of the female members before a ritual, saying
that he needed it to have the spiritual strength required for the ceremony the women
involved always agreed without complaint to this arrangement. (Bizarrepedia, 2015)
Di Mambro and Jouret sometimes even ordered married couples to separate on the
basis of them not having any cosmic
What Are The Positive And Negative Impact Of
Immigration...
LESSON 15 Immigration and Urban Growth
Objectives:
Identify which countries most of the immigrants came from and why immigrants
flocked to the United States
Identify the positive and negative impact of immigrants on the United States
Identify the positive and negative traits of American Politics during this time period
Immigrants and America, the Melting Pot begins.
Between 1870 and 1920, about 20 million Europeans immigrated to the United States.
Many of them came from eastern and southern Europe, which had not provided large
numbers of immigrants before. Some, like Jews, fled religious persecution. Other
immigrants came to the United States to escape economic hardship. Many left
Europe full of ideas for reform and political freedom denied to them in the past.
About 200,000 Chinese immigrants came from 1851 to 1883. Many thousand
immigrants came from Japan as well. From 1880 to 1920, about 260,000
immigrants came from the Caribbean. Many Mexicans immigrated to the United
States as well. Many Mexicans became part of the country when territory was added
after the Mexican War. About a million immigrants came from 1910 to 1930 to
escape turmoil in Mexico.
Most immigrants traveled by steamship, riding in steerage, the cargo holds below
the ship s waterline. Conditions were cramped, with little light or air and were
unclean. Immigrants often suffered from disease. Immigrants who arrived in New
York were processed at Ellis Island. The process, which took

Blaire provided a phone number for Matthew and I was able to contact him via

I contacted Matthew via telephone, Matthew stated that he did not answer Blaire s
calls due to the decree issued by the judge requesting they only have contact via
text message or Email in order to have any and all conversations documented
(Blaire corroborated this statement). Matthew then stated he messed up the address
and the correct address was 2088 Club Crest Way Henderson, NV 89014. Matthew
then stated that he did not intentionally provide a false address and messed up,
Matthew stated that he even messed up on his leave paperwork. Matthew emailed
me a copy of his leave paperwork and it had 3838 Club Crest listed as the address.
Matthew stated that he did not mean to mess up the address so bad and was
extremely cooperative. I instructed Matthew to advise me when he arrived at the
correct address and I would have the Henderson Police Department dispatch a unit to
the address to verify he is there and that Nolen is in no danger, to which he agreed. I
provided Matthew with the case number as well.
Officer Hemenway (P#2133) responded and verified Nolan was at the address with
Matthew and was in no danger. Officer Hemenway then informed me Matthew had

Fish Analysis
If you like fish chances are you like catfish. The following recipe is a great way to
prepare your catfish fillets for a great change from the routine of fried catfish. The
blackening technique, used in this recipe, is credited to chef Paul Prudhomme of
New Orleans and has since been adapted for use with several kinds of meats and
poultry but fish seems to be the most popular for this process.
4 catfish fillets olive oil
1/3 lb. bacon
2 teaspoons each of the following:
garlic powder thyme white pepper black pepper cayenne pepper lemon pepper chili
powder rosemary, crushed fennel seed, crushed
1 teaspoon each of the following:
allspice teaspoon oregano teaspoon salt

I like to use fresh bacon grease in my skillet. I just coat the bottom right before I
add the fillet and then clean the skillet between fillets to rid it of any burnt bacon
grease. I think I just like the bacon appetizer I get with this recipe so I think I will
stick with it. My kids love to sneak up and snatch a piece when I m not looking too.
If you don t have a cast iron skillet you can use a regular skillet and if you don t
have a burner to use outside you can do this on the stove but be sure to have the
fan on high and maybe open a window or two. The smoke will burn your eyes and
throat so be careful with that. Catfish don t seem to smoke near as much as salmon
either because of the oils in the salmon or my reluctance to get the skillet as hot as
my friend does but either way it is all worth the efforts. Blackened catfish can be
served with just tarter sauce and a cold drink and chips or you can get a little fancy
and serve it on a bed of rice with mixed vegetables and a glass of wine with lemon
juice over the fillet, it really works well either
Hamlet And The Oedipus Complex
Developed by Sigmund Freud, the Oedipus Complex, which applies to males, and
the Electra Complex, which applies to females, is said to be one of the most
powerfully determinative elements in the growth of the child (Welcome to the
Purdue OWL). These complexes states that a child takes towards the parent of the
opposite sex as the object of their affections, with feelings of jealousy and anger
towards the opposing parent (Rubin). In Hamlet, characters such as Hamlet and
Ophelia portray this characteristic, as illustrated through Hamlet s fixation with his
mother, and Ophelia s inclination to do anything her father tells her to do. This, in
turn, also affects the balance between Hamlet and Ophelia s relationship.
From the very beginning of the play, the Oedipus Complex is illustrated through
Hamlet s anger towards Claudius for marrying his mother when Old King Hamlet
was but two months dead... (I.II.142), with his anger being shown in Hamlet s first
soliloquy, revealing his impressions about the relationship between Claudius and
Gertrude. He expresses the fact that his mother Would have mourned longer!
married with my uncle / My father s brother, but no more like my father / Than I to
Hercules. Within a month... (I.II.155 157), voicing his opinions on how Gertrude
should have mourned longer than a month before getting remarried, as well as
expressing his disgust and anger for marrying his late father s brother, stating ...O

  • 2. Impact of WWII Essay Impact of WWII World War II had a definite impact on the United States. It changed how people lived and how other people were viewed. Not many people realize the treatment of people from our own country during World War II. Three groups of people that were affected were women, African Americans, and Japanese Americans. The lives of these people were changed drastically, whether by having to work, mistreatment because of skin color, or by being blamed for something that was done by a country they were native to. Prior to World War II, employers and the government held that there were jobs appropriate for women and jobs which were inappropriate because women were not capable of fulfilling the tasks involved in such work. As we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... African Americans were discriminated against even though they were serving their country. Like we discussed in class, some African Americans were lynched in public while dressed in their military uniform. Many were severely beaten almost to death. They were treated with no respect. As I looked through my notes I found that African Americans were grouped together in combat and often were given missions that could have been considered suicidal. Although the blacks were treated poorly, it seems that the Japanese Americans got the raw end of the deal during the war. Shortly after the United States entered into war with Japan, the federal government initiated a policy whereby 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry were rounded up and herded into camps, 2/3 of these people were actually United States citizens. They were incarcerated without indictment, trial, or counsel not because they had committed a crime, but simply because they resembled the enemy. These were similar to concentration camps that the Germans were using for the Jews, though no one was being killed and Japanese Americans were allowed to work within the camps. Not many Americans knew about the camps at that time, and some still don t know today. Like discussed in class, it was an embarrassing moment for this country. The book that was assigned in class, Desert Exile by Yoshiko Uchida, told the story of a family who lived through these horrible times. As we discussed in class

The age of exploration connects to the renaissance because people were getting new trades and discovering new places, which connects to the theme of the rebirth of the renaissance. Three of the key explorers of that time period were Ferdinand Magellan, John Cabot, and Cristoforo Colombo, and some of them were heroes and some were villains. Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer who explored a western sea route to the Spice Islands. The English Language has changed over a long period of time due to a number of different factors which have had different effects on how the Language has progressed. Language is seen to have progressed through different stages, from Old English (beginning in the 3rd century and including the invasions of the Anglo Saxons, which led to the creation of Englisc) through to Middle English (which may have begun in the 11th century with the rule of the Vikings, which introduced variations on the previous Anglo Saxon pronunciation and speech. One such rule is that sentences should not end in a preposition, for example the chair was sat on , which is a result of Latin languages could not accommodate for this. This was their basis for the construction of English. Other rules include the usage of double negatives and split infinitives, in which an adverb is put in between the preposition to and the base verb. For example to boldly go . Descriptivism is the opposite view to that of the Grammarians. Descriptivism states that Language should be allowed to progress over time and that new words should be introduced as they appear, and old words should be allowed to disappear through lack of use. Descriptivism would allow the use of more modern American spellings such as sulfur to replace their original English counterparts, simply because they are more widely used. The change in syntax over time has shifted greatly, and language has been altered because of it. For example syntax used to be the Subject, Object, Verb order, as opposed to the Subject, Verb, Object order that we use nowadays. The complexity of sentences has also, changed, with Middle and Early Modern English writers using longer complex sentences with varied clauses and clause lengths, and Modern English writers using short, less complex sentences with less clauses and simpler, easier to read clause lengths and variations. The language has also become more simplified in terms of inflections. These were removed because the system for adding

They can cause environmental issues or they could even cause hurt to humans and animals. However, HAZMAT is needed for production in some workplaces. There are many businesses that do not train their employees properly or not at all on hazardous materials. Anyone transferring, using, touching, or working with hazardous materials should be trained so they know what to do in case of a serious incident. There were 14 employees who did not have any training on HAZMAT. There is also another incident that states a company failed to properly train their employees on how to properly package and label HAZMAT product which caused acceptance of cargo on an airplane that should have not been accepted. These are just a couple of incidents that discussed in this press release. If those employees would have been trained, there may not have been a safety incident that caused fines to these companies. The worst part is, is the employees had no idea what to do in any of these incidents. They could have been hurt or even caused harm against others and it would not have necessarily been their fault. One way to reduce these incidents is risk management. Risk management is a program to reduce risks in a business in any way possible by forecasting and evaluating. According to the US Department of Transportation, the Hazardous Materials Safety Program is, designed to reduce the probability and quantity of hazardous material released and mitigate release consequences (DOT, 1998, p. 4). This program gives guidelines as well as consequences. It gives ideas for future and how to plan for an incident. This guideline also gives ideas of developing the risks and how safe can you be and is there any other plans to use to become safer. It is always a good idea to be as safe as possible and you can never be safe enough.

In this study 349 nurses working in remote areas of Australia responded. 88.5% were female in the age range of 20 68 years. In the 12 months preceding the survey, the workplace violence incidents that were the highest are verbal aggression (79.5%), property damage (31.6%), and physical violence (28.6%) (trends in workplace violence in remote areas). Le Morte DArthur, And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, and the Gawain Poet s Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are important works that should be considered when studying medieval literature. They both portray the style and structure of medieval romance. They also tackle the same topic of King Arthur and his knights, as well as share the same characters of King Arthurand Sir Gawain. In order to be able to go over these works and understand them, one must understand the aspects of literature of the time. There are some aspects found in almost all literary works written in the medieval times, some of which are influenced by everyday life, problems, religion, and politics. For example, the French invasion of England, known as the Norman Conquest, greatly influenced the language of the time. At first, England was ruled by the Anglo Saxons, and used Old English in their literature, even though they did not write much. With the invasion of the French, Anglo Saxon language was not considered appropriate, and so they introduce a new easier dialect, which came to be known as Middle English. This became the language they used to write, and the act of writing itself became more abundant. Moreover, the conquest resulted in an increasing tension between England and France. This tension is apparent in many works of the time, including Le Morte d Arthur . For example, the depiction of Sir Launcelot as the greatest knight of all time in several romances. In order to fully understand the magnitude of how much of a gap in popularity there is between these two different techniques in animating there must be clear statistics that show proof how these movies fair in the box offices. For instance, take a look at Disney s Princess and the Frog which was a traditionally animated film. It had done well when it came to what movie critics had to say about it, however, it failed in comparison to Pixar at the box office with a return of only $267million (Child n.p). The newest adaption to Winnie the Pooh also received wonderful reviews from critics but was only able to bring in $33million worldwide (Child n.p). Take these two movies and compare them to Bolt (2009) and Tangled (2010) which grossed $310million and $590million individually (Child n.p). That doesn t necessarily make Princess and the Frog and Winnie the Pooh bad movies; critics seemed to think they were just fine. However there is a clear gap between the money made by the CGI films and the hand drawn films. Furthermore, the matter of whether or not they were both made by different companies is of the question seeing as how all four films were produced by Disney. Traditional animation , using hand drawn images, has been successful for many decades and

Research shows that BPA; being used to make plastic and resins, coating the inside of metal products, raised major health concerns (FactsAboutBPA.org. 2015) .Exposure to BPA is a concern because of the possible effects it has on the adult brain and the behaviour of infants. A study by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2003 concluded that there were noticeably higher levels of BPA found in 93% of 2,517 urine samples taken by people over the age of six. He began to give more lectures about economics than morality after he became popular. He believed that a nations wealth was decided by it labor instead of the quantity of gold and silver a nation had which supported a theory called mercantilism that dominated Western European economic policies at the time. He eventually wrote a book about this that was called An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations . Debates between classical and neoclassical economists about the message of the book have gone on for a long time. His book was criticized by Alfred Marshall for his definition of economy. He argued that man should be just as important as money, services are just as important as goods, and there should be a focus in human welfare as well as wealth. The Arab Israeli war in 1948 was the first step of a century of bloody and hostile conflicts. The Arab Israeli war was caused by a number of factors both intraregional and international, which created a catalyst of war through a complex situation. This was triggered by Israel s independence declaration in 14 May 1948; in the Arab Israeli war the victor was Israel. Furthermore the idea that anti Semitism could only be overcome by physical separation from Europe and by self determination (Schulze 1999, p. 1) is what is believed to have made Zionism so popular in the first place. The religious and cultural background to the Land of Israel made Palestine the most logical territorial claim and was perceived as the only viable and permanent solution to the problem of the Jews. This idea of Zionism advertised the belief that Jews were given Palestine by God himself that is was their right and this fuelled their fight in pursuing their God given right. Meanwhile, with news of Hitler and the holocaust in Europe beginning to spread, this event only generated an intense determination to create a Jewish state. But with the Palestinian leadership actively supporting the Nazis during WWII it had created more conflict between the Arabs and Jews. Without the Jews flocking from Europe because of the Holocaust and the idea of Zionism, Arab Israeli conflicts may never have occurred to such an extremist level. As the Jews perhaps would have not had enough organisation and support to fight back against the Arabs and the desperate desire to create a Jewish state with nothing to lose. Modern Arab nationalism began at the end of the eighteenth century, majority as opposition to the European colonialism (British), which the Arabs believed was superfluous in its attainment (Schulze 1999, pp. 2 3). The aforementioned quote by Charles Dudley Warner appears to parallel the views on conformity Aldous Huxley created in his novel Brave New World . Conformity, and with this, stability, in Huxley s world is only possible with the excessive use of conditioning and the hyper cloning of zygotes called Bokanovsky s Process . Conditioning is not something created in Brave New World. Behaviorists like Ivan Pavlov and John B. Watson performed conditioning experiments on dogs and even children (in respective order). However, Huxley created a society where people s lives are predetermined even before conception. This stimulates the question: Is mindless conformity ethical? . Bokanovsky s Process is described as being able to [make] ninety six human beings grow where only one grew before (Huxley 6). Th is, in turn, is one of the major instruments of social stability (7). The people created by Bokanovsky s Process is also described, by Mustapha Mond, one of the World Controllers , as the gyroscope that stabilizes the rocket plane of state on its unswerving course.... Anne Sexton, one of the leading poets of the confessional trend, is not an exception, her literary heritage and inclusion at to the mode being, however, equivocal. Sexton s texts require from their readers a deep insight into a number of contexts where they are firmly anchored. Taking into consideration the confessional nature of Sexton s poetry, critics and readers have been suspecting other pathologies in her family history, for some poems deal with the problem of incest. Nevertheless, Anne s relatives and later psychiatrists have unanimously denied these assumptions indicating that her numerous mental disorders caused memory failures. The poet s forging of her biography and her psychiatric ailments will be elaborated on in the chapters to follow. As an outsider and rebel, Anne received wide recognition among peers in her teenage years.   • 39. Analysis Of The Lake Isle Of Innisfree The Unreachable Lake Isle of Innisfree The Lake Isle of Innisfree is a three quatrain lyric poem penned by the recognized poet W.B. Yeats. At first glace, the poem appears to be about the speakers intentions of leaving the busy city he is currently residing in to live on an Irish plot of land he refers to as Innisfree. Within the poem, the speaker describes Innisfree in great depth and places immense emphasis on the smallest details. This way of speaking suggests that Innisfree is not a physical place, but more so a representation of the speakers internal desires. W.B. Yeats uses a variety of poetic tools to make this evident. There are several examples of these tools and they are primarily found in structure, imagery, or symbolism. Through the use of these tools, Yeats is implies that Innisfree is a place of imaginative creation, rather than being an actual location. With that being, Innisfree is the speakers happy place W.B. Yeats The Lake Isle of Innisfree is written in a specific rhyme schemewhich is used primarily to depict an extra layer of emotion. In this example, the emotions being presented are the sentiments that the speaker feels towards Innisfree. This rhyme scheme follows an ABAB pattern, indicating that the last word of each second line in a stanza rhymes with the last word of each third line. I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made: Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honey bee;
  • 40. Visual Art During The Middle Ages And The Renaissance IWT1 TASK1 Visual Art in The Middle Ages and The Renaissance The Middle Ages spanned from 400 to 1400 A.D. During this period, often referred to as the Medieval Period, began after the fall of the Roman Empire. After Rome fell Europeans found that they no longer had a single state or government and they turned to the Catholic Church which soon became the most powerful institution of the era. Throughout the Medieval Period Kings, Queens and other leaders relied on their alliances with the church for much of their power. In the Middle Ages religion was so central to society that small villages were built around churches and in larger towns the community s resources were spent on building huge cathedrals. These communities relied on the church to provide them with basic social services and protection as well as spiritual guidance. Art during The Middle Ages was used as a way to teach because so few people could read. The church used art to aid in the telling of spiritual stories and to provide important symbolism to the people. Medieval period art was influenced by the Roman Empire, Christian iconography and the Byzantine culture of the Middle East. A common trait of medieval art was to show important figures as larger than other figures around them. These figures showed little emotion. Their expressions were serious and the figures themselves seemed stiff and two dimensional. Most of these traits were consistent with the use of art for religious edification and as such most

Baby boomers are ending their employment life cycle and transitioning into retirement, leaving Millennials as the soon to be dominant generation in the workforce. By 2020, more than 46% of labour will be provided by these millennials. (Weber, 2016) As this transition begins, a new trend within the workforce has also begun. Modern workers are no longer spending their entire career with one employer. In fact, according to data from the Bureau of Labour Statistics, the average worker today only stays at each of his or her jobs for 4.4 years. However, the expected tenure of the workforce s youngest employees is about half of that. Ninety one percent of Millennials (born between 1977 1997) expect to stay in a job for less than three years, meaning they would have 15 to 20 jobs over the course of their working lives. (Meister, 2012) With career development and work life balance on the forefront of the millennial mind, gone is the era of employers using base salary in order to compete for the worker talent pool. They now have to consider the total compensation package, which includes all forms of money, benefits, services, and other perks eligible to the employee when competing with other firms, as modern employees have begun to place just as strong of an importance on benefits as they do salary. The various benefit packages offered by employers play a

The way the new theme ties into the story is how Billy is determined to get both of the coon dogs and everyday he slowly progressed even more and he tried again tomorrow, and the day after, until he got enough money to get the coon dogs (Which took him two years). In one scene, Billy shows that he is determined to get the coon dogs and works really hard everyday for two whole years until he got the coon dogs that he dreamed of having (Billy had puppy love). Soon after, he, his wife Nicky and son Emmanuel were the victims of a grisly murder in Morin Heights, QuГ©bec, committed by members of the cult. Jouret in particular had a strong air of credibility to his teachings, due to his doctor s degree and his charismatic personality, which would have made it very easy to follow orders from him. The leaders managed to strip followers of all their money and force them to adhere to strict rules, and there is evidence of them ordering followers to stockpile weapons or even kill on their behalf. Another example of the cult s obedience was Jouret s obsession with sex, which caused his tendency to have intercourse with one of the female members before a ritual, saying that he needed it to have the spiritual strength required for the ceremony the women involved always agreed without complaint to this arrangement. If you don t have a cast iron skillet you can use a regular skillet and if you don t have a burner to use outside you can do this on the stove but be sure to have the fan on high and maybe open a window or two. The smoke will burn your eyes and throat so be careful with that. Catfish don t seem to smoke near as much as salmon either because of the oils in the salmon or my reluctance to get the skillet as hot as my friend does but either way it is all worth the efforts. Blackened catfish can be served with just tarter sauce and a cold drink and chips or you can get a little fancy and serve it on a bed of rice with mixed vegetables and a glass of wine with lemon juice over the fillet, it really works well either
  • 50. Hamlet And The Oedipus Complex Developed by Sigmund Freud, the Oedipus Complex, which applies to males, and the Electra Complex, which applies to females, is said to be one of the most powerfully determinative elements in the growth of the child (Welcome to the Purdue OWL). These complexes states that a child takes towards the parent of the opposite sex as the object of their affections, with feelings of jealousy and anger towards the opposing parent (Rubin). In Hamlet, characters such as Hamlet and Ophelia portray this characteristic, as illustrated through Hamlet s fixation with his mother, and Ophelia s inclination to do anything her father tells her to do. This, in turn, also affects the balance between Hamlet and Ophelia s relationship. From the very beginning of the play, the Oedipus Complex is illustrated through Hamlet s anger towards Claudius for marrying his mother when Old King Hamlet was but two months dead...
