Humorous Essay Definition
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Humorous Essay Definition" might initially seem like a
lighthearted task, considering the inherently amusing nature of humor. However, as one delves
deeper into the intricacies of defining humor and capturing its essence in written form, the
challenge becomes more apparent.
Humor is subjective, varying greatly from person to person, culture to culture. Attempting to
encapsulate its diverse facets within the confines of an essay can be akin to navigating a maze
where every turn introduces new dimensions and interpretations. The elusive nature of laughter,
often spontaneous and context-dependent, makes it challenging to establish a universal
definition that resonates with all readers.
Additionally, striking the right balance between wit and clarity is an art in itself. Humorous
essays demand a finesse in language, where words dance on the edge of satire without tipping
over into offense. Maintaining this delicate equilibrium is a tightrope walk, requiring a keen
understanding of the audience's sensibilities.
Furthermore, the challenge lies not only in defining humor but also in infusing the entire essay
with a comedic flair. Incorporating amusing anecdotes, clever wordplay, and comedic timing in
the written form requires a distinct skill set. It's not just about being funny but about
orchestrating a symphony of laughter that resonates with the readers.
As the writer, one needs to navigate through a myriad of comedic styles – from satire to
absurdity, from irony to slapstick. Each style carries its own set of challenges and demands a
nuanced approach to ensure the essay achieves its intended humorous effect.
In conclusion, while the prospect of exploring the "Humorous Essay Definition" may seem light
and entertaining at first glance, the actual process involves a thoughtful journey through the
complexities of humor. Successfully conveying the essence of laughter in written form requires a
delicate balance, a keen understanding of diverse perspectives on humor, and a mastery of
comedic techniques.
For those who find themselves grappling with the intricacies of such an essay, it's worth
considering external assistance. Services like HelpWriting.net provide a platform where similar

An Analysis Of Yiyun Li s Book, Gold Boy, Emerald Girl,...
Yiyun Li s collection of short stories in Gold Boy, Emerald Girl share the common
theme of loneliness in a collection of short stories: Souvenir, Sweeping Past, and A
Man like Him. While the characters of each story encounter different hardships and
tragedies, each character seemed to show development. At first glance, they seemed
to have grown from their experiences. However, they eventually fall into a downward
spiral of regret and sorrow after having epiphanies of their mistakes. The identifiable
protagonists grief stricken experiences dramatically shift their perspective, becoming
hopeless in the harsh reality they have grown accustomed to.
Throughout the short stories, characters endure circumstances that allow them to
realize the unfairness of the world, ultimately causing a change in attitude. In
Souvenir, the protagonist finds herself in a shop purchasing a pack of condoms for
her mentally ill boyfriend while being followed by an old man. With the belief that
sacrificing something precious of herself such as her virginity, the teenager initially
felt that her love could save him from his mental illness. Those in the store around
her, however, forced humiliation upon her, especially the elderly man. Finally
becoming aware to those around her, she has an epiphany of those surrounding her in
addition to the society she lives in. Witnessing the differences in people s behaviors
and attitudes, she grasps the understanding that people are influenced by others
Analysis Of Google s On Data Exhaust Essay
Data Exhaust Google By utilizing the millions of misspelled words in the billions
of searches it processes every day, Google was able to create it s spell checker for
free (something that Microsoft spent a considerable amount of time and money to
create). Google then created an ingenious way to confirm that it s algorithm
displayed the correct word by asking users to click to confirm on the corrected
search results. In addition, google took their algorithm a step further by looking at
the text of the web pages that they click on as the page that the user selects as the
page likely has the word spelled correctly if the user selected it. This allows google
to continually improve their spell check and also makes it easily available for any
language that is typed into their search engine. This data also has additional uses
beyond spell check, such as their autocomplete feature that is available across most
of the google ecosystem and the translation services that they offer9. Facebook Jeff
Hammerbacher, a data scientist at facebook, found that when people saw their
friends making posts or sharing content that they were more likely to post content
themselves. Once facebook made this realization, they redesigned their site to make
activities by users friends more prominent in order to create a cycle of new content9.

Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF)
Force protection is a term used to describe all actions to protect and safeguard U.S.
forces from adverse actions. Force protection measures can include patrolling a
perimeter, hardening a building or emplacing obstacles to increase standoff. These
measures require time and effort to achieve, and commanders must carefully assess
their mission and area of operations to determine the appropriate allocation of
resources. If considered early in mission analysis and incorporated throughout the
planning process, force protectionmeasures actually enhance combat effectiveness
and productivity by safeguarding U.S. forces and ensuring that the commander has
the necessary combat power available to apply at the decisive point and time in battle.
Marine Corps doctrine defines the rear area as the area to the rear of the main battle
area where logistic and administrative functions are normally the dominant activity

Although kinetic fires are used to physically destroy enemy capabilities, the greatest
effect of fires is... not the amount of physical destruction, but the effect of that
physical destruction on the adversary s moral strength (MCWP 3 43.3, 1 1). Fires
play a vital role in supporting a commander s plan to preserve his force. This is
achieved by utilizing the targeting process to identify high payoff targets and utilizing
fires to destroy or degrade the enemy s capabilities, interdict their air and missile
capabilities, and eroding their will to fight. Specific force protection measures can
include counter battery fire and the jamming of electronic surveillance to deny the
enemy information about friendly forces. By focusing fires assets on creating
disproportionate results through psychological effects, a commander can increase his
unit s productivity and combat effectiveness while simultaneously safeguarding U.S.
Proposal For The City Of Houston
Purpose: The purpose of my proposal is to propose a plan for the city of Houston to
consider becoming a No Kill City and adopt No Kill animal control policy in
regards to city run and funded animal shelters. Specifically, if the city council would
consider the policy or a trial of it, it could be adapted to fit the cityfinancially and
effectively with available resources that would save lives and the city itself money.
Summary:
The purpose of this proposal is to make aware of a large problem the city is facing
due to pet over population and how to resolve without taking the lives of these
domesticated animals due to flaws in our laws, community out reach, and lack of
information out there to help pet owners spread across our city. The problem
facing our city is that shelters are filled to capacity everyday with the majority
being lost or stray animals and the only resolutions would be to either put down
close to 100 animals a day or once in a while collaborate with rescues to send then
out to other states in need of adoptable animals. However, the solution is right in front
of us. By working with local rescues, animals wouldn t need to be sacrificed and with
proper information and assistance with spay/neuter programs, unwanted pets would
be prevented, lowering the need for euthanizing.
I propose to looking into becoming a No Kill city just as our neighbors, Austin has
with much success. Instead of spending unnecessary money in killing and disposing
those animals,
Essay on Joe Hisaishi (Mamoru Fujisawa)
Biography
Joe Hisaishi was born on December 6, 1950 in Nagano, Japan under the name
Mamoru Fujisawa. His musical training started early on, when he began to take
violin lessons at age five. It was around this time that he first discovered his passion
for music. Fujisawa truly began to explore this passion in the 70 s, during which, a
cultural menagerie of Japanese popular music, new age, and early electronic music
flourished. Inevitably, those genres influenced Fujisawa s early compositions.
(Wikipedia) Fujisawa was highly influenced by the new wave of Japanese
electronica such as the Yellow Magic Orchestra and Ryuichi Sakamoto group. It was
not until 1975, that he made his first public performance, and it is not until a decade

(Team Ghiblink, Nausicaa.net) Afterwards, the pair would go on to produce eight
more films together. (Wondercity Inc. , 2011)
2008 marked an important year for Hisaishi. In honor of his work, a concert event
was produced at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo to celebrate the anniversary of 25 years
of collaboration. (Dasnoy Tsong, 2013) The concert featured performances of
Hisaishi s signature Miyazaki film score compositions. Approximately 1,200
musicians and singers participated in the performance, including the 200 member
New Japan Philharmonic World Dream Orchestra, 6 featured vocalists, the combined
800 members of the Ippan Koubo, Ritsuyuukai and Little Singers of Tokyo choirs,
and a 160 piece marching band. Joe Hisaishi, who by this time has become an
important icon to Asian music, conducted the performance from his piano as a giant
screen backed the entire performance, streaming projections of correlating clips from
Miyazaki s films along with the music. (Team Ghiblink, GhibliWiki)
In 2010, Hisaishi returned to his roots, becoming a professor at the Kunitachi
College of Music to fulfill an endeavor to teach younger generations about music
composition, passing on his legacy, all the while continuing his career as a
composer, arranger, pianist, and conductor. (Dasnoy Tsong, 2013) Over the course of
his career, spanning more than 30 years, Joe Hisaishi built a solid global fan base,
including an enthusiastic multi generational following in China.
Obedience Is the Bottom Line of Christian Life
Obedience to authority is everywhere. Whether it is a student obeying the teacher,
citizens following the laws or a child obeying his or her parents, there will always
be a scenario of obedience to authority. There are different levels of obedience
ranging from a group of people following their leader, such as on a sports team, to
extreme religious cults. The word obedience come from the Latin word Obaudrie,
which means to listen well. Obedience is defined as compliance to the plan;
conformity to the pattern; observance of the rules; loyalty to the standards and
submission to another s will. Obedience is carrying out the given direction
cheerfully and quickly. Obedience is the bottom line of the Christian life yet it plays
a vital role in the formation of character of a person. Obedience is part of the
foundation of society. Without obedience, nothing would exist but chaos and
confusion. Human individuality is often undermined by the blind obedience humans
feel towards those in position of power. In order for humans to maintain their
individuality and a stable society, a balance between obedience and independence
must be found. To obey means doing what God says in the timing and manner that
He says to do it. We must then know what His instructions are. We cannot comply
with something we do not understand. The Holy Spirit assists us in relating God s
commands to our situation and helps us determine the wise choice. The true meaning
of obedience has changed over the course of
Essay about World War I
World War I was a stalemate right from the outbreak of the war as a result of trench
warfare. With the introduction of this system, a piece of land stretching from the
Belgian coast, through France, and ending in Switzerland, became the venue for
majority of the conflict. For almost three years, this line shifted by no more than a
few hundred yards. All of this changed when the United Statesjoined the war and
prompted Germany to make an all out drive on the Allies so as to end the war before
the American Army reached full strength on the battlefield. The American
Expeditionary Force allowed the Allies to take the offensive, thereby ending the static
state of war that had settled on the Western Front as a result of trench warfare.
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conversely, at places like Zonnbeke and the Ypres Salient, the length between front
line trenches was a mere 7 to 8 yards. The extreme to this situation was at
Bellewarde Ridge in 1915. The British and Germans actually shared the same front
line trench (Ellis 24).
With this structure in place, any real gain of land on one side s part was nigh
impossible. When an attack occurred hundreds would die. What resulted was the use
of raids.
Why were trench raids used? Why did so many men die for a gain of a few yards or
to acquire a small amount of field intelligence? The answer lies in the word morale .
Morale is what a soldier needs to keep fighting even after seeing fellow men die right
beside him.
The ground was strewn with our dead, and in all directions were wounded men
crawling on their hands and knees. It was piteous and it is a dreadful thought that
there are occasions when one must resist the entreaties of men in such condition and
leave them to get in as best they can, or lie out in the cold and wet, without food, and
under fire, as they often have to do for days and nights together. (qtd. Fletcher)
Morale can also take a more sinister turn towards jealousy. Many people believed
that raids were a product of jealousies among the staff. If a raid were to be
successful, then the general would gain honor and prestige among his men as well as
his fellow staff.

Youth Gangs
Youth participation in gangs actually decreased from 1996 to 2004, but the violence
within these gangs has not. Homicides committed by youth gang members still
remain as a monumental problem across the United States of America. The Office of
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention reported in its 2004 survey of youth
gangs that there were an estimated 760,000 gangmembers that year. Many of the
kids affiliated with gangs come from lower income, single parent homes; therefore,
the youths of America often turn to gangs to fill the void of not being part of a
family . To combat this problem and save our youth from a life of malfeasance, the
people of the communities of America must take a stand against the negative
influences that impact these youths.
Violence within Youth Gangs of America
The term gang can be associated with a number of different things but, for this
paper, the term gangs will be in reference to youth gangs; youth gangs are
considered to consist of adolescents and young adults from the ages of 12 to 24
(Decker and Howell, 1999, p.1). Gangs have been a normal part of United States
culture for centuries now, a sad but also, very true statement. What started out as a
group of friends wearing their favorite color and protecting their neighborhood from
crime has turned into a problem of epic proportion across the United States of
America. In earlier years gangs were only a problem for poor communities within the
big cities. But during this day and age,
Depersonalization Of Homelessness In Canada
Title
Issue:
The issue I will be focusing upon in this project will be the issue of homelessness
and the depersonalization of this population. There are approximately 235,000
people, in Canada a year, who identify as homeless or acknowledged their position
in life as homeless. 35,000 people, in Canada, are homeless on any given night. This
statistic is not just of white, men, (which seem to be the overrepresented image in
media) but rather is made up of people from every ethnicity, age group, gender,
background, and sexual orientation. With upwards of 6 7% of the population of
Canada having to live in homelessness a year, you would think that their issues would
be further directed to the public eye, however this couldn t be further from the ...

No this project will not be catering to the disenfranchised invisible population of
Canada, but rather the metaphorical invisibility of homelessness. Many of these
people are largely ignored and are treated like subhuman s because of their state of
life and end up feeling like they are invisible in the eyes of the community around
them. This project will be an event taking place across the span of a month and will
be stationed at any shelters that would be willing to allow space and time for this
project. This project will be taking place in shelters across Windsor, Ontario and
such will bring more awareness to these locations. Not only will this open the
public s eyes to the problem, but would also give them an easy means to help by
donating their time and money to a very worthy cause. This would allow for easy
fundraising for our lovely hosts at the various shelters. In this project we would
also like to encourage people with any skills they can provide to bring them as an
asset. For example, if you are a skilled guitar player, maybe you could play some
music for the people attending the project/event or teach a group how to play. Or
you are an avid board gamer, you could bring in some games and play them with
groups and set up little community matches. These games and interactions would be
between the attendees and the homeless people looking for interaction. This would
encourage further conversation and would allow for safe interaction and strong
community building. Finally this project would contact members of the financial
sector and set up community classes for finance and life skills. This would allow for
advancement and structure for these groups, while also allowing them to alleviate
stress, provide support, and social
Nation of Islam in the Light of Elijah Muhammad Essay
Nation of Islam in the Light of Elijah Muhammad
In 1961 James Baldwin met Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Nation of Islam
movement at the time. The time Baldwin spent within the Christian Church prior to
his meeting with Elijah helped him analyze what the Nation of Islam did for people.
It allowed him to notice that everyone needed a gimmick to keep them out of the
ghetto, and it does not matter what the gimmick is (Baldwin 301). Baldwin realized
that the Christian Church was his gimmick, so the Nation of Islam would never do
for him what the Christian Church had already done. Plus, some of the beliefs of
the Nation of Islam were a little far fetched. The Nation of Islam did not function as
a very credible religion during its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had three main ideas he preached that helped him with sales. He wanted black
separatism, everyone to know that white men were evil (which was not hard for
African Americans to believe since the idea already lived within their minds), and
to show the inadequacy of Christianity to African Americans. By preaching these
ideas, he eventually had a following of loyal supporters of his made up religion,
who of course paid money to the church. When Fard was arrested in 1933, he
admitted that his teachings were strictly a racket and he was getting all the money
out of it he could (United States 1+). What he preached aided him in his peddling.
He did not take his teachings seriously yet he met a man one day that viewed him as
God incarnate. One night Elijah Poole attended one of Fard s sermons and spoke
with him afterwards. He told him that you re God himself (Marsh 39). At the time,
the movement had eight thousand followers (Marsh 39). At this point, Fard needed
to find adamant believers who would serve as ministers for his money making
organization. At this time he recruited Elijah Poole, changed Elijah s name to Elijah
Muhammad and developed him into his Chief Minister. Soon after, Fard left Detroit
and Elijah took over the movement. Elijah was born in Sandersville, Georgia, in
1897 as the seventh of twelve children. He barely finished the third grade before he

Landfill Fire Threatens Nuclear Waste Site Outside St. Louis
Later the EPA admitted that people who work at the West Lake Landfill have to be
cautious and careful to protect their health. According to Veronica LaCapra s
report, Landfill Fire Threatens Nuclear Waste Site Outside St. Louis. if the
Westlake Landfill s soil is disarranged, radioactive dust particles could be released
into the atmosphere. Unfortunately, it may lead to the inhalation of airborne
radioactive dust particles. If these particles are inhaled by workers it could
seriously harm their health. The EPA suggested that continued monitoring is
advised and necessary, due to possible elevated levels of radon in the air at the
landfill and the surrounding area. It seems full safety processes must be put into
place to reduce harmful dusting to protect everyone from potential exposure during
any cleanups. Even though the residents of North St. Louis, the EPA and other
authorities have their points of view, further serious claims continue to be revealed.
An oppositional statement using government records and the EPA s data was
reported by VГ©ronique LaCapra just recently. In the article Confused about

October 20, 2015 on the KWMU s website, states that there were reports about high
level of radiation found in residential areas and trees. In addition, a second report

MASHAV s strategies were highly sought after throughout the Third World. Heads

The 1960 s was the Golden Age for Israel s MASHAV program. Hundreds of Israeli

Analysis Of Michael Ogbeidi s The First Republic
Michael Ogbeidi recounts that the First Republic under the leadership of Sir
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the Prime Minister, and Nnamdi Azikwe, the President,
was marked by widespread grand corruption . Ogbeidi maintains that government
officials looted public funds with impunity. Federal Representative and Ministers
flaunted their wealth with reckless abandon... Politically, the thinking of the First
Republic Nigerian leadership class was based on politics for material gain; making
money and living well .
The immediate civilian regime after independence did not last long. Grand corruption

Ogbeidi argues that the 1966 coup was a direct response to the corruption of the First
Republic . For Effeh, it follows that the ideals for economic emancipation the
supposed inspiration behind the quest for independence has become the subject of
escapist antics, grandiloquent rhetoric, and/or outright buffoonery . However, amidst
all this rhetoric, people seemed to overlook the complexities within the system that
nourished and sustained the unwavering wind of grand corruption and rather greater
emphasis was laid on its manifestations and consequences as will be depicted in the
speeches of succeeding military regimes as will be analysed in the next section (
section 2.4).
2.4 Grand Corruption (The Nigerian Military Connection)
Research indicates that the military played very prominent roles in sustaining grand
corruption in Nigeria as corruption, already bourgeoning under the early politicians,
became entrenched under the military rule . Military coups forcefully circumvent
democratic institutions and because of their illegitimacy, it can be argued that the
track records of the military portend that they had little regard over the well being
and welfare of the populace and as such pursued no mandate of accountability and
transparency towards the people. The military rulers were able to perpetrate their

Throughout history the traditional heroic elements have changed because of our
society. Although elements of a hero have changed there are also certain
characteristics of a hero that stays the same, such as a hero s character and courage.
This can be seen through Beowulf , The Epic and the Epic Hero, and the movie The
13th Warrior.
In the story Beowulf, the main character Beowulf shows a lot of character of a hero.
The characteristic are bold, level headed and strong, Beowulf is bold because he

What Is The Mood Of The Haunting Of Hill House
This essay will be discussing the setting of the book The Haunting of Hill House by
Shirley Jackson, in addition to the setting it will also be talking about how the setting
affected the character. The setting of the book is an important aspect of The
Haunting of Hill House , it is important because it creates the mood of the setting and
how it sets up the plot of the story.
In Shirley Jackson s The Haunting of Hill House the setting already creates the
mood in the beginning of the story. In the part after Eleanor leaves with the car and
reaches the Hill House the setting is already is created by the words that Shirley
Jackson used to describe the house, Almost any house, caught unexpectedly or at an
odd angle, can turn a deeply humorous look on a watching person; even a
mischievous little chimney, or a dormer like a dimple, can catch up a beholder with
a sense of fellowship; but a mouse arrogant and hating, never off guard, can only be
evil. (Jackson 24), this quote is setting the mood of the whole story before anything
related to the plot happens. This is setting the mood because the character Eleanor is
describing the Hill House as if it was a face, by personifying, giving it features like
dimples , and also giving it a character like arrogant and hating , which shows that

The First Monthly Coaching Program
Chris, Once again, I would like to welcome you back. This is the first monthly
coaching you ve had since you went on workers compensation. You cannot have
come back on a more exciting and challenging year. As you have already noticed,
there are a few things that have changed since you left. Our new rework goal is
7.5%. Of course, because of the time you have been since you came back and
started pulling routes, you haven t had enough time to accumulate enough work to
have a rework percentage. Other areas that are also considered for quality are your
whole house compliance and whole house in range. For this month, you scored
100% in whole house compliance and whole house in range. The new goal in this
area compared to last year of 94%. Is 95.8%. So this has increased based to last
year s percentage. Currently your yearly average are 94.9 and 95.2% respectively.
So based on your current yearly percentage on rework and whole house compliance
and the range. You are very close to meeting the goal in all three areas. Let s continue
working on improving our customerservice so everything else will fall in place.
Again, if there s anything I can do to help you let me knowand I will give you what
you needto succeed at your work.
Chris, your CSAT this month was 100%. This is exactly where you need to start to
improve in all other areas. Your current yearly average is 97.8%. based on the
current departmental goals, which I have already given you, this particular area is

Speech On Sugar Consumption
How is the growing trend of sugar consumption becoming a threat to our health?
Introduction
We are all familiar with sugar. It is sweet, delicious, and addictive; yet only a few
of us know that it is deadly. When it comes to sugar, it seems like most people are
in the mind frame knowing that it could be bad for our health, but only a few are
really taking the moderate amounts. In fact, as a whole population, each and
everyone of us are still eating about 500 extra calories per day from sugar. Yes, that
seems like an exaggerated number judging from the appearance of the tiny sweet
crystals we sprinkle on our coffee, but it is not. Sugar is not only present in the
form of sweets and flavourings, it is hidden in all the processed foods we eat. We
have heard about the dangers of eating too much fat or salt, but we know very little
about the harmful effects of consuming too much sugar. There still isn t any warnings
about sugar on our food labels, nor has there been any broadcasts on the serious
damages it could do to our health. It has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surveys have shown that sugar sweetened beverages are the primary source of
added sugar in our diets. According to a Coca Cola history website, the soft drinks
bottle sizes have been enlarged drastically over the past 40 years, basically
meaning that we are drinking more soft drinks than ever. As an example, half of
the population in the US consume sugary drinks every day, in which about 25%
gain at least 200 calories from these drinks. Sugary drinks are also the top calorie
source in teen s diets, increasing the risk of diseases such as obesity, diabetes and
heart problems from an early stage. It is a major contributor to the obesity epidemic
around the world, so I believe resisting these sugary drinks and promoting healthier
products can go a long way toward the goal of elevating the number of a healthy
Western Films In The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
In order to make an iconic western film, directors and filmmakers need to have three
very important characteristics in their films. These traits are having a cowboy who
roams the western frontier, a conflict between multiple groups, and a shootout to end
the film. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly by Sergio Leone is considered one of the
greatest westernfilms of all time. Another Sergio Leone filmA Fistful of Dollars
should be considered one of the greats as well due to the presence of the three major
traits of western films.
The first major characteristic of a western film is a nomadic cowboy as the main
character that the audience does not know much about. In The Good, The Bad and
The Ugly the main character was a nomadic cowboy who made a living by turning a
criminal in to the sheriff and then later setting the bandit free. He would go ... Show

The shootout scene consists of two shooters that partake in standard shootout
procedures. This includes the shooters to stand a few yards away from each other.
Each shooter will get one bullet and try to shoot to kill the other. The Good, The
Bad, and The Ugly ends with final shootout between all three of the important
characters. This film provides a little twist to the standard shootout since it has
three people facing off against one another. Each of the characters is trying to get
the gold that drove the film up until the final scene. Nevertheless, the scene is still
recognized as a shootout by all who watch the film. In A Fistful of Dollars, The
Man With No Name is in a shootout between himself and Ramon, a member of the
Rojos family. This came after thee Rojos burned the house of the Baxter s and
killed everyone in the family and crime partnership. The shootout scenes in these
two films provide a very suspenseful and action filled climax. Shootouts are very
iconic in western movies and have to be included in order to make a true

The Dark Side Of The Sun
The sun had come up far earlier than Lorne had expected. Briny sea air flowed
through the open window of his room. He arose from the bed and let out a long,
loud yawn. Tousling his brown hair in a mirror, he saw Auron asleep in the same
chair he d last seen him. His father s arms were folded across him; his chin buried in
his chest. A soft, snore rumbled up from the sleeping man. Lorne looked at the
parchment and quill still resting on the desk and frowned. Balls of paper were
scattered around it. The one document laid in front of his father had so many crossed
out lines that the paper had begun to tear.
He felt sorry for the man. He d been so secretive about his life before Lorne that in
the young man s mind he d dreamed death defying myths of grandeur that would
have made any bard turn such works to hymns. Yet the reality of it was more plainly
written on the wrinkles and scars on the man s face. He d endured something and it
was something that he refused to speak of. It was an unspoken rule to never ask it.
Lorne crept past Auron and opened the door. It was quiet outside the room. He
stuck his head into the hallway and found it vacant. The morning was so still he
felt like he d never left Horizon. By contrast, his morning in Lustria was far from as
serene. The city was awake before he was. Criers in the streets proclaiming the latest
decree of the Potentate and his council. Traders and shopkeepers called out

Cinderella In Therapy Essay
Cinderella in Therapy
In the movie Cinderella, Cinderella is a maid to an evil stepmother and two very
heartless and obnoxious stepsisters. The only reason that Cinderella still puts up
with their orders is an example of the Behavioral perspective. The Behavioral
Perspective puts emphasis on learning by experience with rewards and punishments.
She knows that if she does not do the chores, she will be punished or thrown out of
the household. She does not have anywhere to go because her mother and father have
passed away. Because Cinderella is a genuinely kind human being who wishes to
please, she usually does not stick up for herself against the others in the household.

She is very kind to all creatures, whether it be animals or humans. Cinderella takes it
upon herself to robe, feed, and befriend the animals of the house. She takes care of
her evil stepmother and stepsisters because she is good at heart, and she will put up
with their torture to help them. She could choose not to help them, or just to leave,
but she knows that she won t have anything left, and they need her. It is because of
this pure, perfect attitude that the prince falls in love with her instantly, and not with
the other girls that just want to be with the prince for superficial reasons. Her
effervescent kind heartedness that prevails through her hardships is an example of
the humanistic perspective. The humanistic perspective views behavior as controlled
by the decisions that people make about their lives based on their perceptions of the
world. It s a view in which personality is seen as developing through an actualizing
tendency which unfolds in accordance with each person s unique perceptions of the
world.
There are some small parts in the movie that infer what Cinderella wants through her
dreams. This would be an example of psychoanalysis which is a method that seeks to
help gain insight into one s mind by recognizing and understanding unconscious
thoughts and emotions. She mentions that she dreams at night of finding someone
who will take her away from the house she is spending her days in now.
Argumentative Essay On Eugenics
Eugenics is very controversial. It is important to be informed on the subject to avoid
making rash and hasty decisions on whether or not it is right or wrong. It is up to
each individual to gain the knowledge necessary to determine the moral correctness
or incorrectness of any topic. Often decisions are made without information to back
them up. You must understand the term before understanding the action. In this way,
we must understand eugenicsin a general sense and in detail. We must start with
defining the term eugenics.
There is much bias and confusion surrounding the topic of eugenics. Many times the
reason for this is the lack of understanding of what the term means, where it states In
1883, Sir Francis Galton, a respected British scholar, and cousin of Charles Darwin,
first used the term eugenics, meaning well born. (Genetics Generation, 2015). This
term has evolved to encompass more than just well born as can be seen in the
encyclopedia. The eleventh edition of The Encyclopedia Britannica defines eugenics
as the organic betterment of the race through wise application of the laws of heredity.
(Court, 2004). The meaning of the word eugenics, due to the way it has been used,
confuses many people.
If and when people understand the meaning of eugenics, there comes up the
discussion of positive and negative eugenics. Positive eugenics can be defined as the
government, or group of power, encouraging the procreation of offspring between
those demonstrating a
Analysis Of Captain America The Winter Soldier
Ethics are the standards set by a specific institution that provides clear guidelines for
acceptable behaviors. James Svara outlines 4 dimensions of ethics as duty, virtue,
principles and benefit to society. Each of these dimensions are standard of
exceptional public service. At the core of all ethics in bureaucracyis the commitment
to provide the greatest good for the greatest number. Moreover, Public Administrators
are responsible for countless tasks to ensure that all recipients of a bureaucratic
service are treated objectively. Unfortunately, not all Public Administrators illustrate
exemplary behaviors conducive to incomparable public service. Theoretical

Captain America failed to apprehend The Winter Soldier despite the chaos he caused
to the Public due to the fact that they knew each other personally. This conflict of
interest between the Public and Captain America is known as an information
asymmetry as Captain America failed to disclose that his enemy during the movie
was once his friend. The Public is at a disadvantage in this instance as they are not
fully disclosed on all of the details concerning their protection moving forward while
the immediate safety of The Winter Soldier was granted by Captain America.
Consequently, Captain America exemplified both exceptional and questionable
ethical practice in his duty as a public administrator. Likewise, Nick Fury was a public
administrator that also exhibited outstanding public service and unethical decision
making as well.
Nick Fury was the immediate supervisor that delegated tasks to the Agents within
S.H.I.E.L.D. Furthermore, Nick Fury advocated that S.H.I.E.L.D takes the world

Jeremy Bentham s Theory Of The Panopticon
In February of 2004, an advanced prison system was born for all the world to take
part of. The prison, which was designed for a younger generation, was built to
monitor all inmates at all hours of the day, convert what was once a manual process
to automatic, and to collect personal information from each individual. The lockup is
host to billions of inmates, each having their own cell. One might assume this prison
is a building, but it is more a state of mind. Located in the public s view, where all
can see it each and every day, anyone is able to join and only takes a click of a
mouse. This prison is Facebook. Michel Foucault, a French philosopher, has brought
to attention insights that help clarify how power and discipline work together to
create surveillance for a large group. Foucault passed away before the birth of the
internet, but has provided society with knowledge on how surveillance is applicable
to the online world. In the essay Panopticism, Foucault expands on Jeremy Bentham s
theory of the panopticon. Proposed by Bentham in the mid 19th century, the
panopticon is a prison which was used to observe inmates constantly (Torres,
2017). The prison has a tower in the middle, where each inmate can be seen from
the tower by a guard (Foucault, 1975, 200). Therefore, the prisoners always think
they are being watched as they cannot see who is in the tower, or if there even is
anyone in the tower watching. Foucault describes this in his essay as being the major

Bateman is in a way sickened by the everyday all American life he leads, while the
reader is sickened by the flip side of Patrick Bateman. From the beginning of the
novel Bateman seems content with his life style. He seems perfectly happy with
the daily lunch tickets at Nell s, the Yale Club, etc. He seems fascinated and
absorbed with the details of peoples wardrobes, especially his own. But if you sift
through all the talk of food, cocktails, and hardbodies, the reader will find a subtle
boredom or frustration even early in the novel. While waiting on food at a table at
Nell s, Bateman is momentarily diverted from the conversation by one of his thoughts
of sex or violence that seem to escalate in frequency throughout the novel. I think
about Courtney s legs, spread and wrapped around my face, and when I look over at
Luis in one brief flashing moment his head looks like a talking vagina and it scares
the bejesus out of me, moves me to say something while mopping the sweat off my
brow. (108) These thoughts seem to come to Bateman most frequently at these types
of situations. Wealthy friends, wealthy strangers, and a wealthy environment
surround him. Either consciously or subconsciously Bateman s mind diverts itself
from the monotonous world that Bateman grows to loathe, to a world that Bateman
loves. Although the thoughts occur the most often in restaurants, I can t say with
certainty that food has anything to do with

How Does Intersectionality Affect The Movement
How does intersectionality effect the movement? Intersectionality is the multilayered
or combined oppressions in people. When a person or persons are part of multiple
groups that face oppression, they have a unique perception of oppression due to
experiencing many simultaneously. This multifaceted oppression has given rise to
movements of feminismthat alter the focus, away from white middle class women, to
issues of class, race, sex, and culture that many others experience. How does this
altered focus effect the feminist movement? Intersectionality has a significant impact
on the feminist movement for several reasons; first is recognition of varying
oppressions, second the inclusiveness of others facing oppression, and third how the
recognition and inclusiveness can help reach equality. Intersectionality and the
growing recognition of it has provided a better look at the amount of different
oppressions that exist Through the understanding of intersectionality it becomes
clear that race and sex are not the only factions that experience oppression, this
awareness has led to the desire to address a whole range of oppression. (Combahee,

people of varying oppressions and that by fight for black women they would be

Feminism Vs Third Wave Feminism
Throughout history all kinds of women across the globe have been viewed as
objects and in some instances viewed as less human and men are viewed as the
dominant subject. We are all part of creating the social difference between men and
women weather we know it or not. Sexism is what promotes male privilege and
refers to hierarchically ordered gender stereotyping and it can be seen everywhere.
Each day more and more are expressing enculturation, which is the gradual
acquisition of the characteristics and norms of a culture or group by a person. We can
see this though the arrogant eye, which is all the different ways men exploit women
in a male dominated culture. Standpoint theory is a feminist theoretical perspective
that argues that knowledge stems from social position. Third wave feminismis a
feminist group that focuses on the issues of race, racism, and the experiences of the
nonwhite women in today s culture. In our culture today we see cultural racism so
often that we may not even pick up on it because it is some common. I ve
personally seen this and I remember one day in the mall I was walking around and
noticed that almost every ad had no person of color on them, I was stunned, out of
the hundreds of ads on the walls the only ones that did were footlocker and other
athletic stores, that is a perfect example of cultural racism. Another thing i ve noticed
when driving back home is that racial advantage is absolutely real, racial advantage

All across American households, adults whip, spank, paddle, and swat children as a
form of acceptable punishment and as deterrent to unwanted behaviors. These actions
are considered corporal punishment, and can be defined numerous ways. The
American Public Health Association defines corporal punishment as the infliction of
bodily pain as a penalty for behavior disapproved by the punisher (American Public

On the contrary, studies prove the cumulative negative affects corporal punishment
has on children. These negative consequences include (but are not limited to) harm to
cognitive ability and development, antisocial and violent behavior, potential for
future abusive behavior during adulthood, bodily harm and injury, sexual
development problems, emotional distress, and can even be a gateway to more
abusive means of discipline. Admittedly, it is astonishing that all of these negative
consequences result from a legal administration of discipline that 90% of all
Americans say they have used (Muller).
In 1986, Murray Straus and Mallie Paschall began one of the most credible
longitudinal studies conducted in the field of corporal punishment. According to
Straus, the research was prompted by studies showing that talking to children
(including pre speech children) is associated with an increase in neural connections in
the brain and in cognitive performance. She stated that, Those findings led us to
theorize that if parents avoid corporal punishment they are more likely to engage in
verbal methods of behavior control such as explaining to the child, and that the
increased verbal interaction with the child will in turn enhance the child s cognitive
ability (Straus and Paschall). This theory was tested on 960 children of mothers in the

appeal to the viewers is strengthened.
However, the stereotypes are not the only example for ethos in the music video.
Will s clothing and vernacular make a good case for ethical appeal as well.
Throughout the video Will is dressed in loud bright colored clothing with various
trendy accessories such as hats and sneakers. The clothing helps Will to appeal to
the younger viewers because it s something the viewers can identify with. Also Will
s upbeat tone and hipster lingo help his credibility of acting as an average young

While ethos plays a large role in the appeal of the video, pathos plays a role equally
as large. The pathological appeal in the music video is present from start to finish.
The video opens with a background soundtrack of an upbeat rap tune. The tune is
catchy and grabs the viewer s attention immediately. Will Smith compliments the
catchy beat by rapping an energetic rap. The rap itself demands for viewers attention
because it appeals to their taste in music.
Whereas music is the main avenue of appeal in the video, there are other pathos

bullies Will until Will s mom gets so scared for Will s well being that she sends him

When milk and sugar is hot, around 80В°C, pour some of the hot liquid over egg

Pour the milk and yolk mixture to the pan and put it all back on stove. Cook stirring

A National Debate Over The Staggering Cost Of Tuition Is...
College Affordability
A national debate over the staggering cost of tuition is gaining momentum.
Prospective students are burdened with the struggle of not being able to attend
college due to the inability to afford it. Unfortunately for those students, college is
usually seen as a pathway to a successful life and career. Those who struggle to attend
college usually acquire student debt and it is a huge problem among society as so
many adults carry a debt burden for the rest of their life, preventing them from
living a stress free life. Parents struggle to send their children off to college and for
those who do attend are often drowning in loan debt for a long time. In order to get a
better understanding of the determinants of student college debt, Anne Macy and
Neil Terry, staff members of West Texas A M University did extensive research. The
purpose of their research is to examine the factors of student debt while focusing on
financial, institutional and demographic variables (Macy and Terry 15). Although
this paper seems to be about the determining factors of student debt, it is really about
how America values education.
The authors state there is very little literature focusing on student debt; they found
most research in literature is qualitative but not quantitative, suggesting that their
research will be numbers based (Macy and Terry 16). The use of numbers to
establish logos shows the reader how problematic this situation is. Macy and Terry

An Abuse of Power by Political Institutions in the United...
The President, Supreme Court and Congress: An Abuse of Power? Preserving life,
liberty and the pursuit of happiness has been atop all priorities of the United states of
America (United States Constitution, 1776). To maintain this mission, a framework
for the organization of the United States Government and it s relationship to the
people was developed. This creation has become the supreme law of the United States
. It is known as the Constitution (United States Constitution, 1776). This oldest
written Constitution still in use by any nation in the world holds a central place in
the United States of America as it used to maintain peace all across the nation (GPO
Access, 2010). This document lays foundation on which to build a Democratic...

This action taken by the President and the NSA was a breach of trust between the
government and American citizens. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
describes Warrantless Wiretapping to be a wrongful exercise of power and a
violation of the First and Fourth Amendments of the United States Constitution
(ACLU, 2006). Similarly, according to the rule of US District Court Judge Anna
Diggs Taylor, The President of the United States... has indisputably violated the
Fourth in failing to procure judicial orders as required by the Foreign Intelligence
Surveillance Act (FISA), and accordingly has violated the First Amendment rights of
these plaintiffs as well. (ACLU, 2006) Written in the Constitution, the First
Amendment gives American citizens the right to freedom of speech while the Fourth
Amendment gives the right to privacy (United States Constitution, 1776). Any
violation of the Constitution is without doubt an abuse of the Presidents and
Congress authoritative power (Greengard, 2010). Following the first failed anti

Essay on Fame in Djerassi’s Cantor s Dilemma
Dreams of Fame in Djerassi s Cantor s Dilemma
Opportunistic scientists, the most hypocritical deviants of the modern age, revolve
around the scientific method, or at least they used to. The scientific method once
involved formulating a hypothesis from a problem posed, experimenting, and
forming a conclusion that best explained the data collected. Yet today, those who are
willing to critique the work of their peers are themselves performing the scientific
method out of sequence. I propose that scientists, or the treasure hunters of that field,
are no longer interested in permanent solutions, achieved through proper use of the
scientific method, and rather are more interested in solutions that guarantee fame and
fortune. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Krauss is nothing more than a black mailing criminal and, as a opportunistic scientist
, is motivated by a lust for recognition.
The theme of scientists in search of the pot of gold is mentioned by the characters of
Cantor s Dilemma. Cantor states, ...most scientists suffer from some sort of
dissociative personality: on one side, the rigorous believer in the experimental
method, with its set of rules and its ultimate objective of advancing knowledge; on
the other, the fallible human being with all the accompanying foibles .1 Cantor
continues to describe the issue of simultaneous discovery and then strikes right at
the heart of the scientists who step beyond the bounds of the scientific method. He
states, ...a scientists drive, his self esteem, are really based on a very simple desire:
recognition by one s peers .2 Recognition is what the Nobel is about, and if a
fictional scientist has to ignore the methodology that governs science to get it, so be
it. Yet, the Nobel Prize is real and so are the deviant scientists.
In real life there are corrupt scientists who will do whatever it takes to receive
popularity. Pharmaceuticals are an industry that is especially well acquainted with
this area. Depakote is a little known, yet, versatile drug. Originally, Depakote was
used as a seizure medication , but through sheer faith in an unproved theory was it

A Narrative Of The Captivity By Mrs. Mary Rowlandson
We all believe in good and evil, that through this belief becomes our morals as
humans. However, during this early American period it s known that the colonial
people in Massachusetts had their beliefs set on the puritan way of life and living.
Furthermore, these colonial people who settled in the Massachusetts Bay colony didn
t expect there life to be disrupted through attacks taken place. Through the experience
of one woman, A Narrative of the Captivity by Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, an American
colonial women, accurately depicts historical record of the attacks made of the
King Philips war and her being held for ransom eleven weeks in its descriptions of
the brutalities and godliness which sets the tone between what is truth and what is
contradictory in the eyes of Rowlandson and the native Americans. Moreover,
through this war fueled battle the colonial people felt as if their colony was
disrupted and attacked. Not to mention, how the natives felt, particularly the
Wampanoag tribe. The natives had been kind to share half of their land while the
English were killing their crops. This drove the Natives mad and through this they
were labeled as savages by the English people.
Subsequently, this brings Rowlandson to invite readers in through her memoir of her
captivity. However, Rowlandson faith is strong through her captivity. She views God
as being a great God and the natives as barbaric, heathens, enemies, and many other
slanderous name calling. This however, marks
Fiddler On The Roof Sparknotes
In Fiddler on the Roof, changing religious traditions affects how people find their
soulmates because instead of the typical arranged marriage, people are looking for
love. Yet, traditional religious arranged marriages could also sprout love. Fiddler
on the Roof is a musical set in Russia, in a small Jewish town called Anatevka, in
1905, Tevye is the guide and narrator of his story of living in the town of Anatevka.
His family and the entire town are Orthodox Jews and follow strict traditions.
While, at the time, it was a Jewish custom for a matchmaker and parents to choose
husbands for all of the daughters, Tevey s daughters have other ideas in mind. Three
of the five daughters fall in love with men who do not quite fit the image that Tevye
and his wife, Golde, (who were brought together by an arranged marriage) had in
mind. While love wins in the end, watching the changing traditions and accepting
them is very hard for Tevye. Throughout Fiddler on the Roof, Tevye examines his
Jewish beliefs and questions how he can walk the pathway of his faith when the
world around him is changing. Fiddler on the Roof uses the soulmate trope,
exemplified by the idea... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also discuses the choices that people make when it comes to what gender they
are, sexual and romantic relationships, and the formation of a family and how they
have become more easily changed in a society that has been become more relaxed
and not as strict. The pieces Fishman brought to her work show how the changing
understanding of male and female roles and the expectations that come with that
have helped contribute to the new social revolution and the effects it has had on
love and family. Fishman s ideas are exemplified by Tevye s eventual acceptance of
Tzeitel and Motel s relationship. After seeing the passion that is so clearly in Motel s
heart, Tevye thinks to
Milton Hershey s Accomplishments
Milton Hershey once said, If I ever become rich, I am going to use my money to
build schools to give every boy and girl an opportunity to get an education (Quotes
Said by Milton Hershey). These words reflected how Milton Hershey felt about
education because he was uneducated and forced to drop out. Hersheyknew from that
point on that he wanted to help others get educated. The Hershey Companyhelped him
achieve these goals. Milton Hershey always has a passion for candy making, and he
fulfilled his dream by becoming one of the most successful chocolate entrepreneurs.
He used his wealth to create a school for orphaned boys and helped anyone in need.
Milton Hershey was born on September 13, 1857 in Derry Township, Pennsylvania to
Henry Hershey and Veronica Fanny Snavely. Milton had one younger sister named

only candy produced. Around 400,000 quarts of milk were used each day to
manufacture chocolate, around half a million pounds of chocolate was produced a
day. While planning the rest of the Hershey factory, Milton wanted his employees to
have a safe, home like environment to live in. Workers would need comfortable

would Hershey help them out financially, he would help them with personal issues
too. The production took around a year to do. By then Hershey Company was ready
to open and produce candy

Your Best Life Now, By Joel Osteen
We all have bad things happen to us that require us to forgive, but famous people
are forced to either hang on to stuff or forgive in public. And because not forgiving
other people can affect our lives in a big way, it becomes obvious when famous
people are struggling with something from the past through their interviews and
public appearances. While that s not a fun thing for famous people, it is a good
thing for all of us. We get to see what the act of forgiving or not forgiving can do to
someone and apply those lessons in our own life.
The fact is that famous people have a lot of insight into forgiveness. Besides the
everyday stuff that we all go through with relationships, they have to deal with very
public unwarranted rumors, scrutiny, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

5. Happiness Helps You Forgive
Princess Diana struggled with a lot in her life, and she did it very publicly. It wasn
t long after she was married that problems started in her marriage to Charles and it
all fell apart. But still, she was known and is remembered for being compassionate,
caring, and loving. In order to be that kind, she had to forgive on some level or her
struggle would have been well known.
One of the things that Princess Diana said was that when you feel happy you can
forgive a lot. That s a huge lesson in how to get to forgiveness.
When you are truly happy, things seem less upsetting and it s easier to forgive.
Therefore, focus on being as happy as you can and the energy that comes from that
will help you work through the issues you ve had with more

However, as one delves deeper into the intricacies of defining humor and capturing its essence in written form, the challenge becomes more apparent. Humor is subjective, varying greatly from person to person, culture to culture. Attempting to encapsulate its diverse facets within the confines of an essay can be akin to navigating a maze where every turn introduces new dimensions and interpretations. The elusive nature of laughter, often spontaneous and context-dependent, makes it challenging to establish a universal definition that resonates with all readers. Additionally, striking the right balance between wit and clarity is an art in itself. Humorous essays demand a finesse in language, where words dance on the edge of satire without tipping over into offense. Maintaining this delicate equilibrium is a tightrope walk, requiring a keen understanding of the audience's sensibilities. Furthermore, the challenge lies not only in defining humor but also in infusing the entire essay with a comedic flair. Incorporating amusing anecdotes, clever wordplay, and comedic timing in the written form requires a distinct skill set. It's not just about being funny but about orchestrating a symphony of laughter that resonates with the readers. As the writer, one needs to navigate through a myriad of comedic styles – from satire to absurdity, from irony to slapstick. Each style carries its own set of challenges and demands a nuanced approach to ensure the essay achieves its intended humorous effect. In conclusion, while the prospect of exploring the "Humorous Essay Definition" may seem light and entertaining at first glance, the actual process involves a thoughtful journey through the complexities of humor. Successfully conveying the essence of laughter in written form requires a delicate balance, a keen understanding of diverse perspectives on humor, and a mastery of comedic techniques. Yiyun Li s collection of short stories in Gold Boy, Emerald Girl share the common theme of loneliness in a collection of short stories: Souvenir, Sweeping Past, and A Man like Him. While the characters of each story encounter different hardships and tragedies, each character seemed to show development. At first glance, they seemed to have grown from their experiences. However, they eventually fall into a downward spiral of regret and sorrow after having epiphanies of their mistakes. The identifiable protagonists grief stricken experiences dramatically shift their perspective, becoming hopeless in the harsh reality they have grown accustomed to. Throughout the short stories, characters endure circumstances that allow them to realize the unfairness of the world, ultimately causing a change in attitude. In Souvenir, the protagonist finds herself in a shop purchasing a pack of condoms for her mentally ill boyfriend while being followed by an old man. With the belief that sacrificing something precious of herself such as her virginity, the teenager initially felt that her love could save him from his mental illness. Those in the store around her, however, forced humiliation upon her, especially the elderly man. Finally becoming aware to those around her, she has an epiphany of those surrounding her in addition to the society she lives in. Analysis Of Google s On Data Exhaust Essay Data Exhaust Google By utilizing the millions of misspelled words in the billions of searches it processes every day, Google was able to create it s spell checker for free (something that Microsoft spent a considerable amount of time and money to create). Google then created an ingenious way to confirm that it s algorithm displayed the correct word by asking users to click to confirm on the corrected search results. In addition, google took their algorithm a step further by looking at the text of the web pages that they click on as the page that the user selects as the page likely has the word spelled correctly if the user selected it. This allows google to continually improve their spell check and also makes it easily available for any language that is typed into their search engine. This data also has additional uses beyond spell check, such as their autocomplete feature that is available across most of the google ecosystem and the translation services that they offer9. Force protection measures can include patrolling a perimeter, hardening a building or emplacing obstacles to increase standoff. These measures require time and effort to achieve, and commanders must carefully assess their mission and area of operations to determine the appropriate allocation of resources. If considered early in mission analysis and incorporated throughout the planning process, force protectionmeasures actually enhance combat effectiveness and productivity by safeguarding U.S. forces and ensuring that the commander has the necessary combat power available to apply at the decisive point and time in battle. • 6. Proposal For The City Of Houston Purpose: The purpose of my proposal is to propose a plan for the city of Houston to consider becoming a No Kill City and adopt No Kill animal control policy in regards to city run and funded animal shelters. Specifically, if the city council would consider the policy or a trial of it, it could be adapted to fit the cityfinancially and effectively with available resources that would save lives and the city itself money. Summary: The purpose of this proposal is to make aware of a large problem the city is facing due to pet over population and how to resolve without taking the lives of these domesticated animals due to flaws in our laws, community out reach, and lack of information out there to help pet owners spread across our city. The problem facing our city is that shelters are filled to capacity everyday with the majority being lost or stray animals and the only resolutions would be to either put down close to 100 animals a day or once in a while collaborate with rescues to send then out to other states in need of adoptable animals. However, the solution is right in front of us. By working with local rescues, animals wouldn t need to be sacrificed and with proper information and assistance with spay/neuter programs, unwanted pets would be prevented, lowering the need for euthanizing. I propose to looking into becoming a No Kill city just as our neighbors, Austin has with much success. Instead of spending unnecessary money in killing and disposing those animals,

  • 8. Obedience Is the Bottom Line of Christian Life Obedience to authority is everywhere. Whether it is a student obeying the teacher, citizens following the laws or a child obeying his or her parents, there will always be a scenario of obedience to authority. There are different levels of obedience ranging from a group of people following their leader, such as on a sports team, to extreme religious cults. The word obedience come from the Latin word Obaudrie, which means to listen well. Obedience is defined as compliance to the plan; conformity to the pattern; observance of the rules; loyalty to the standards and submission to another s will. Obedience is carrying out the given direction cheerfully and quickly. Obedience is the bottom line of the Christian life yet it plays a vital role in the formation of character of a person. Obedience is part of the foundation of society. Without obedience, nothing would exist but chaos and confusion. Human individuality is often undermined by the blind obedience humans feel towards those in position of power. In order for humans to maintain their individuality and a stable society, a balance between obedience and independence must be found. To obey means doing what God says in the timing and manner that He says to do it. We must then know what His instructions are. We cannot comply with something we do not understand. The Holy Spirit assists us in relating God s commands to our situation and helps us determine the wise choice. The true meaning of obedience has changed over the course of

With the introduction of this system, a piece of land stretching from the Belgian coast, through France, and ending in Switzerland, became the venue for majority of the conflict. For almost three years, this line shifted by no more than a few hundred yards. All of this changed when the United Statesjoined the war and prompted Germany to make an all out drive on the Allies so as to end the war before the American Army reached full strength on the battlefield. The extreme to this situation was at Bellewarde Ridge in 1915. The British and Germans actually shared the same front line trench (Ellis 24). With this structure in place, any real gain of land on one side s part was nigh impossible. When an attack occurred hundreds would die. What resulted was the use of raids. Why were trench raids used? Why did so many men die for a gain of a few yards or to acquire a small amount of field intelligence? The answer lies in the word morale . Morale is what a soldier needs to keep fighting even after seeing fellow men die right beside him. The ground was strewn with our dead, and in all directions were wounded men crawling on their hands and knees. It was piteous and it is a dreadful thought that there are occasions when one must resist the entreaties of men in such condition and leave them to get in as best they can, or lie out in the cold and wet, without food, and under fire, as they often have to do for days and nights together. (qtd. Fletcher) Morale can also take a more sinister turn towards jealousy. Many people believed that raids were a product of jealousies among the staff. If a raid were to be successful, then the general would gain honor and prestige among his men as well as his fellow staff. As the

Homicides committed by youth gang members still remain as a monumental problem across the United States of America. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention reported in its 2004 survey of youth gangs that there were an estimated 760,000 gangmembers that year. Many of the kids affiliated with gangs come from lower income, single parent homes; therefore, the youths of America often turn to gangs to fill the void of not being part of a family . To combat this problem and save our youth from a life of malfeasance, the people of the communities of America must take a stand against the negative influences that impact these youths. Violence within Youth Gangs of America The term gang can be associated with a number of different things but, for this paper, the term gangs will be in reference to youth gangs; youth gangs are considered to consist of adolescents and young adults from the ages of 12 to 24 (Decker and Howell, 1999, p.1). Gangs have been a normal part of United States culture for centuries now, a sad but also, very true statement. What started out as a group of friends wearing their favorite color and protecting their neighborhood from crime has turned into a problem of epic proportion across the United States of America. In earlier years gangs were only a problem for poor communities within the big cities. But during this day and age,

She could choose not to help them, or just to leave, but she knows that she won t have anything left, and they need her. It is because of this pure, perfect attitude that the prince falls in love with her instantly, and not with the other girls that just want to be with the prince for superficial reasons. Her effervescent kind heartedness that prevails through her hardships is an example of the humanistic perspective. The humanistic perspective views behavior as controlled by the decisions that people make about their lives based on their perceptions of the world. It s a view in which personality is seen as developing through an actualizing tendency which unfolds in accordance with each person s unique perceptions of the world. There are some small parts in the movie that infer what Cinderella wants through her dreams. This would be an example of psychoanalysis which is a method that seeks to help gain insight into one s mind by recognizing and understanding unconscious thoughts and emotions. She mentions that she dreams at night of finding someone who will take her away from the house she is spending her days in now.
  • 27. Argumentative Essay On Eugenics Eugenics is very controversial. It is important to be informed on the subject to avoid making rash and hasty decisions on whether or not it is right or wrong. It is up to each individual to gain the knowledge necessary to determine the moral correctness or incorrectness of any topic. Often decisions are made without information to back them up. You must understand the term before understanding the action. In this way, we must understand eugenicsin a general sense and in detail. We must start with defining the term eugenics. There is much bias and confusion surrounding the topic of eugenics. Many times the reason for this is the lack of understanding of what the term means, where it states In 1883, Sir Francis Galton, a respected British scholar, and cousin of Charles Darwin, first used the term eugenics, meaning well born. (Genetics Generation, 2015). This term has evolved to encompass more than just well born as can be seen in the encyclopedia. The eleventh edition of The Encyclopedia Britannica defines eugenics as the organic betterment of the race through wise application of the laws of heredity. (Court, 2004). The meaning of the word eugenics, due to the way it has been used, confuses many people. If and when people understand the meaning of eugenics, there comes up the discussion of positive and negative eugenics. Positive eugenics can be defined as the government, or group of power, encouraging the procreation of offspring between those demonstrating a
