Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

rather than primarily listening
to American music. Which we
know as the British Invasion
This movement brought about
iconic British bands such as
The Beatles and The Rolling
Stones
5. 1970s
The 1970s brought a variety of
different genres becoming popular,
for example; heavy metal, electric
folk and most noticeably glam rock.
“Glam Rock” was a good escape
from the bleak political backdrop
with their brightly coloured nails
and hair and shiny outfits.
Towards the end of the 1970s a
new movement called the “Punk
Movement” began which was a
rebellion against the government
and conformity.

The 1980s was when Rap and Hip-
Hop music became popular in
primarily inner city suburbs, Many of
the main influences came from the
USA with groups such as Run DMC
Genres we know today such as pop
and dance music began in the 1980s
A movement called the “New
Romantics” had a very short-lived
popularity where followers would
wear pirate outfits and listen to
bands like Adam and the Ants.
7. 1990s
Britpop was a whole new wave
of successful british bands in
the 1990s who made a
massive impact on the
american music culture.
Bands such as Oasis,
Radiohead and Blur were
some of the many well known
Britpop bands of the 90s.
