It became popular between 1895 and the 1920s and is characterized by improvisation. Some of the major styles of jazz include hot jazz, swing, bebop, cool jazz, and fusion. Key jazz instruments include the piano, double bass, saxophone, trumpet, and drums. Famous jazz musicians that developed different styles include Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, and John Coltrane.
