Alternative rock originated in the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s, featuring a softer sound than hard rock with less aggressive lyrics. 5. Classical music is the art music produced in the tradition Western Liturgical and secular music, encompassing a broad period from roughly the 9 th century to present times. 8. Emo music is a style of rock music typically distinguished by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics. 9. Gothic Music came after the waning of post-punk , the sub-culture expanded both musically and visually. This caused similar variations in the different types of goth, in which local scenes also contributed to this variation. Heavy metal or which it is often referred to ‘metal’ is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, mostly in the countries of the United Kingdom and the United States.
