How can Philip Larkin s poetry be used to address the...
The marginal or neglected can be seen to refer to individuals, a class or nation, to ideas that have been
marginalised, to neglected forms such as poetry, and to the marginalised self. Philip Larkin is
renowned for his use of the colloquial in his poetry, and he renews the importance of everyday
language and words, that have been neglected and marginalised in forms of expression. His poems
have the tone of the ordinary day. Through this use of language, he reflects on the loss of identity and
to the neglected state of England due to modernisation and industrialisation. Poetry itself is a specialist
form; however Larkins poetry can be seen as homely and less dramatic. He brought back poetry as a
relevant and accessible medium, as it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the fourth stanza, he describes what he feels now (l.18), and the use of mass images suggests a loss
of identity. For example the plural images of the crowd, kids (ll.19 21), More houses, more parking
allowed, / More caravan sites, more pay (ll.22 3). England is becoming meaningless, having no
individual identity, where greeds / And garbage are too thick strewn (ll.51 2). The spectacled grins
(l.25) represent the blandness of businessmen as they contemplate a commercial manoeuvre without
taking account of the possible human consequences. Yet they are still mere grins, and not people.
Modern industrial images are contrasted with the images of nature, such as the M1 café (l.20) and
concrete and tyres (l.49). Industry is marginalising the countryside, neglecting it. In the third stanza he
expresses the fairly naïve belief that nature is stronger and more resilient than man and it will be able
to recover. Later in the poem however, the strength of nature, how the earth will always respond (l.14),
is trapped. The only parts that will be bricked in are the tourist parts (ll.39 40), yet the reason for the
tourism is suggested to be because we will become the first slum of Europe (l.41). The marginalisation
of the importance of the countryside is unnecessary, as the dales are

Corporate Social Responsibility Of Exxonmobil And Shell
Oil is the basis of industrial production and the necessity of economic development. Human life can
not be separated from the oil. Mobil was found in 1882 and is the largest producer of oil, natural gas
and oil refineries in the world (Mobil, 2014). Shell is made of the Royal oil of Holland and the United
Kingdom Mobil, and is the largest producer of oil, gas, and petrochemicals, and is the largest retailer
of automotive fuels and lubricants (Shell, 2015). As two world s largest oil companies, Mobil and
Shell play key roles in different areas, especially in the area of corporate social responsibility, which
contains extensive content referring to workers, customers, environment, and community. This essay
will compare and evaluate corporate social responsibility of ExxonMobil and Shell in the criterion of
safety, sustainability and education.
Safety is more than only a priority, but a core value and an integral part of the culture in ExxonMobil
and Shell. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They both made the great contribution to take their corporate social responsibility. However, in the
aspect of safety, Shell is better than Mobil because what the Shell has done are more comprehensive,
considering the environment safety and energy safety. In addition, in the aspect of the environment,
ExxonMobil did worse than Shell because Mobil has difficulty in keeping a balance between profit
and the environment while Shell enhanced benefits of company and environment at the same time. In
the aspect of education, Mobil and Shell are both well done because though Mobil has cost much
more money than Shell, the direction of action in the education of these two companies is consistent.
To sum up, Shell did better than Mobil in corporate social responsibility. From these two company, it
is easy to understand that the ultimate intention of the emphasis on CSR is to realize ecological,
economic and socially sustainable

Four Inter-Family Influences Of The Indo Aryan Language
Hence if we look at all the Indo Aryan languages, one aspect if quite clear is that they are all
derivatives of Sanskrit (Sebeok, 1963) which in turn have their roots set in Greek and Latin and made
its way into Indian soil via the Indo Europeans (Sebeok, 1963). Out of all these Indo Aryan languages,
Hindi is considered to be the most progressive, as it is the most analytical followed by Punjabi,
Gujarati, Sindhi, Marathi, Bengali, and Oriya (Sebeok, 1963).
2.2.4 Inter Family Influences
No languages can be given the title of pure language being devoid of any form of influence or mix
from languages belonging to their neighbouring boundaries or languages it might have come in
contact within the course of time. With the number of language families existing in the same soil over
the number of years, there is bound to be influences of one on another. For example, the Indo Aryan
languages have quite a few Non Indo Aryan borrowings (Bagchi, Levi and Bloch, 1929). It must be
remembered that the Aryans had come into the Indian soil after the Dravidians and Tibeto Burma
family already residing in the North western regions of India. It is seen that the ancient Indo Aryan
language Sanskrit has strand of Pre Aryan languages namely, the Dravidian and Munda language
(Sebeok, 1963). While the Tibeto Burma influence is said to have come in while the Aryans were
coming in from the Northern boundaries of India. Aryans were coming in from a temperate region into
the tropical environment of

Prussia s Influence On The World s Foundational...
Prussia was a kingdom that existed nearly half a millennium ago as a patchwork of territorial
fragments, with no significant resources founded yet or a coherent culture. With its capital in Berlin,
Prussia grew from being a small, poor, disregarded medieval state into one of the most vigorous and
powerful nations in Europe. 1 Prussia s involvement in the continent s foundational religious and
political conflagrations. From the devastations of the Thirty Years War through centuries of political
machinations to the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire. From the enlightenment of Frederick the
Great to the destructive conquests of Napoleon. Then from the Iron and Blood policies of Bismarck to
the creation of the German Empire in 1871, and all that implied for the tumultuous twentieth century.
Prussia s government was monarchical from the 1700s all the way to the Great War. During all that
time it increasingly valued a strong, formidable army, but was not so formidable when it met
Napoleon during the Coalition Wars. It put forth effort in training and spending much of its money
towards weapons and uniforms. The military technology and strategy of Prussia during 1860s and
1870s was outstanding. Especially with the mind of Otto von Bismarck (1815 1898) leading the way
against Denmark, and later Austria, and then with his sneaky tactics he used against France before the
Franco Prussian war in 1870.
Prior to the unification in 1871, Germany was made up of thirty nine

Federal Information Systems Management Act (FISMA), Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX), Gramm Leach
Bliley Act, Payment Card Industry Standards (PCI DSS), Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Intellectual Property Law. I will also discuss security methods and

Title III of the E Government Act, entitled the Federal Information Security Management Act
(FISMA) requires each federal agency to develop, document, and implement an agency wide program
to provide information security for the information and systems that support the operations and assets
of the agency, including those provided or managed by another agency, contractor, or other sources
(Staff, 2016). FISMA was amended by The Federal Information Security Modernization Act of 2014.
The amendment was established to modernize the Federal security practices to focus on security
concerns. The results of these changes will strengthen continuous monitoring, continue focusing on
agency compliance, and report on issues caused by security incidents. FISMA, Paperwork Reduction
Act of 1995 and the Information Technology Management Reform Act of 1996 (Clinger Cohen Act),
clearly highlights the plans for a cost effective security program. In support of and reinforcing this

A Personal Philosophy of Education
A personal philosophy of education serves to unify the experience of teaching for the individual. It
provides our students with a professional that understands the context of learning from which their
classroom stems. It also ensures a personal sense of growth: a lifelong process valued by the
profession as a whole. I have combined beliefs from pedagogical, ethical and personally developed
ideas I intend to use as a foundation in creating a nurturing classroom environment. Education could
be defined ad infinitum, but for the purposes of synchronicity I have organized my beliefs in terms of
four elements: enculturation, potential, inspiration and development. The meeting point of these ideas
is the philosophical ideology of existentialist education. As defined by Dr. V.K. Maheshwari (2011),
the origin of existentialism: rejects the existence of any source of objective, authoritative truth about
metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics. Instead, individuals are responsible for determining for
themselves what is true or false, right or wrong, beautiful or ugly. For the existentialist, there exists no
universal form of human nature; each of us has the free will to develop as we see fit. The focus is
entirely student centered, whereas the teacher serves as a guide seeking to educate the whole person.
The goal of such a classroom is to develop a thoughtful, creative, self actualizing adult capable of
rational thought, effective communication and independent

Writing Assignment 2. My Writing Assignment Is To Explain
Writing Assignment 2 My writing assignment is to explain nonverbal communication messages
expressed by nonlinguistic means . (Adler et al 431) so that you may understand that verbal
communication is just a small part of the communication process and that through nonverbal
communication you can communicate without even using words or by the way you say the words. Let
me warn you that you need to be very careful when trying to interpret nonverbal communication,
because nonverbal communication can be ambiguous. What I mean by that is nonverbal
communication can have more than one meaning as you will see later in this writing assignment. I was
challenged to watch 3 episodes of my favorite TV show, in which I chose The Big Bang Theory, and

This is also referred to as proxemics. Leaning in, stepping back or walking away are examples of the
use of space.
While watching The Big Bang Theory, one of the channels of nonverbal communication I noticed was
facial displays. When Leonard and Penny were discussing the upcoming Comic Con convention they
were planning on attending, Leonard was showing Penny places they were going to stay and sleep. He
was smiling and you could definitely tell it was a fake smile. Penny was also wearing a fake smile the
whole time. I interpreted this as Leonard really trying to get Penny not to go to the convention with
him by showing her she would have a terrible time. I believe Penny was using the fake smile to show
Leonard that she was excited about the trip, although she really didn t want to go. The fake smiles they
were both wearing are an example of the sub content of the facial display channel.
The second channel of nonverbal communication I noticed was gestures. This was when Leonard was
skyping his mother Beverly and she was suggesting that Leonard and Penny where having marital
problems because they were inviting Raj to come live with them. Leonard puts his hand on his
forehead and slumped over his desk. The act of placing his hand on his forehead and slumping over
are examples of the sub content of the gestures channel of nonverbal communication. I feel he was
showing his anger and that he disagreed with

There are taboos all across the world; some taboos are considered normal depending on where you
are. Today most taboos are depicted through media, characters on TV shows who smoke are usually
the deadbeats going nowhere, and this influences the public that smoking is not good and should be
avoided. Another taboo is adults who wish to adopt children, but it s looked at in a harsher light if the
ones who wish to adopt a child is in a same sex relationship or is single.
It is not easy to adopt a child, and it really shouldn t be easy because that child needs a home that ll

attributes most sought after by women placing their children for adoption. The overwhelming majority
of these birth mothers are planning adoption in order to provide their child with a mother and a father.
With this in mind, we are not accepting single adoptive parents into our domestic programs at this

The Importance Of Corporate Finance For An Entrepreneur
This research has been conducted to examine the importance of corporate finance to an entrepreneur,
and the role it plays in an organization regardless of the structure of a company, or stage of growth.
The various forms of ownership are reviewed for startup companies and major corporations to
highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each form of ownership, and to illustrate the importance
of corporate finance. To provide a balanced view of ownership, less common forms of business
ownership are examined using the same criteria to further illustrate the importance of corporate
finance. Introduction Corporate finance is the area of finance dealing with sources of funding and the
capital structure of corporations (Brealey, Myers, Allen, 2011). Corporate finance also relate to the
corporate strategy of an organization (Universtiy, 2015) that managers employ to increase the value of
the firm (Scarborough Cornwall, 2014, p. 71) for its shareholders (Brealey, et al., 2011).
Understanding corporate finance is a critical skill for all managers, regardless to the type of business
ownership. Too often, there is no thought given to the type of ownership an entrepreneur should
choose (Kaplan Warren, 2013). Consideration should also be given to liability exposures, taxes,
capital requirements for startup companies, future capital requirements, motivation, and
entrepreneurial fit. Entrepreneurs are motivated by control, by wealth creation, or by social

Essay on C. S. Lewis Works
C. S. Lewis was a celebrated academic in the field of medieval literature, first at Oxford University,
then at Cambridge, where he held the first chair in medieval and Renaissance literature. He also was a
noted convert to Christianity who in the 1940 s established himself as a popular Christian apologist
with a series of wartime radio talks, later collected under the title Mere Christianity (1952). Between
1938 and 1945 he wrote a trilogy of science fiction books (the Space Trilogy, consisting of Out of the
Silent Planet, 1938; Perelandra, 1943; and That Hideous Strength: A Modern Fairy Tale for Grownups,
1945) with underlying Christian themes. He was still unmarried in the early 1950 s, living with his

However, the publishers, Geoffrey Bles, like today s filmmakers, decided to space them out to one per
year. He had found a young illustrator, Pauline Baynes, for the first book and asked her to stay with
the series. After the series was published, Lewis received the 1957 Carnegie Medal, Britain s most
prestigious award for children s literature, for the last chronicle, The Last Battle. Some have argued
the award was really for the whole series, but in many ways, The Last Battle really is the best of the
seven stories. The order of reading the Chronicles which Lewis recommended is not the order in
which they were written or published. Lewis suggested that new readers start with The Magician s
Nephew, which tells of the creation of Narnia. This should be followed by The Lion, the Witch, and
the Wardrobe, then The Horse and His Boy, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The
Silver Chair, and finally The Last Battle, which tells the story of the Narnian world brought to an end.
Four of the stories deal with children entering the parallel, or secondary, world of Narnia, setting
disorder to right, and then returning to their own world, only to find that no time at all has elapsed
there. One of the novels presents an adventure that happens purely within Narnia; one tells a story of
secondary world spilling over into the children s primary world of England; and in one, The Last
Battle, all the previous friends of

The Incredible Instrument That is The Saxophone Essays
When people think of the saxophone, some items that come to mind are jazz music, golden metal, and
Kenny G. The saxophone consists of these, but it is also so much more. Playing the saxophone is a
great experience that everyone should try. Although playing the saxophone may take some money and
time, it is a great investment because it is a unique instrument with many benefits.
There are many different kinds of saxophones, but only a few are commonly used. The most common
ones include the alto, baritone, tenor and soprano saxophones. Most tyros start on the alto saxophone.
After learning the rudiments of the alto, players then can transition to a different kind of saxophone.
One motif of the saxophone is that all of the finger positions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When played correctly, the saxophone creates a sumptuous sound that is able to fill a whole room.
Sound has to be produced just right though, or else the result will be a high pitched squeak. The sound
from the saxophone is made when one blows air into the mouthpiece, which causes a wooden reed to
vibrate. Different pitches are produced when the air column is lengthened or shortened by pushing the
keys up and down. The book Music: An Illustrated Encyclopedia, written by Neil Ardley, illustrates
the importance of having keys, or buttons, on woodwind instruments such as the saxophone.
...woodwind instruments can produce more than 40 notes even though the player has only eight
fingers and two thumbs with which to get them [keys]. (29) Being able to produce so many notes is a
great benefit to saxophone players because they can undulate between notes and octaves more easily
than other instruments. The saxophone is considered one of the easiest instruments to play. Even
neophytes are able to make a noise on the saxophone (even if it is more of a squeak). To make sound
on a brass instrument, such as the trumpet, one needs to purse his lips just right, which can be difficult
for many people. Also, brass players have a more difficult time changing octaves (high and low notes)
than reed players because they need to change their whole mouth position instead of pushing a single
button. So although playing an instrument such as the saxophone may seem like

Persuasive Essay On Poverty In America
Poverty in America is greatly known all around the world. For many years the nation s education
levels of children during school and insurance is a huge pillar that holds up poverty in the U.S.A. As a
country we have not done enough to overcome poverty. Even with new organizations being formed to
help with enhancements of education, like the America Gives More Act, the nation hasn t made the
Early Warning Systems or have improved influences for college saving plans.
According to the Huffington Post, forty five million Americans are living in poverty. The U.S. has
attempted to decrease this by enhancing the education system and bettering insurance costs for
struggling families. The America Gives More Act was apart of advancing the U.S. This restored and
expanded three charitable giving incentives such as food inventories, conservation easements, the IRA
rollover, as well as streamline the foundation excise tax stated in National Council of Nonprofit.
Community College to Career Fund Act was passed so Americans with low income are able to get the
training they need for better paying jobs. The Fraken.Senate.Gov document implies that community
colleges are harshly unfunded compared to four year colleges, and this Act will create a grant program
that will increase funding. Better funding comes better training, which means better jobs and pay,
which then decreases poverty for many Americans.
The Community Investment and Empowerment Act described on GovTrack is

Myocardium Infraction MI is a very serious combination of family heritage and human behavior such

The Importance Of Oral Reading Assessment
Throughout this process of giving assessments, I came to the conclusion that some assessments are
more time efficient than others, while other assessments that take more time provide more useful
information that allow a teacher to provide individualized instruction for each student. The assessment
that took the most time was the Informal Phonics Survey, which required nearly twenty minutes for an
individual child to take the assessment; however, because of the time commitment for each individual
child, this assessment would not be an ideal source of information for an entire class. In contrast, the
DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency assessment only required ten minutes to assess an individual child,
and this assessment would be ideal for testing an entire class. I also realized that the Informal Phonics
Survey provides more detailed information than the DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency assessment does,
and although the IPS takes more time to administer, the information gives a teacher more insight into
the specific strengths and weaknesses of each child in their classroom by breaking the test into smaller
sections (letters, sounds, initial/final consonants, blends and digraphs, long and short vowels, closed
syllables, soft c/g generalization, open syllables, special vowels, syllabication, and common syllables).
This breakdown of the assessment allows the teacher to see the phonics skills each student is
struggling with and allows for individualized instruction. The DIBELS assessment,

Inca Empire Research Paper
The Inca were once one of the most advanced societies and largest empires in the early 16th century
Americas. They had an expansive empire that spread throughout South America, including what is

and large military system, the Incas also had complex irrigation systems and technologies that were
ahead of their time. The Spanish first arrived in 1527 while the Incas were still a thriving society led
by Huayna Capac who had kept the country unified. However, by the early 1530s, there was a schism

Alfred Hitchcock s Marnie ( 1964 )
Alfred Hitchcock s Marnie (1964) depicts the psychological development of a young woman as she
navigates a life of crime and familial melodrama, ultimately unlocking the suppressed memories that
offer answers to her childhood traumas. The director utilizes evocative mise en scene, subjective point
of view shots, and expressive lighting schemes in order to project the title character s internal state
onto the physical world of the film. In doing so, Hitchcock crafts a diegetic universe that reflects the
unique capabilities of film one that, through subjectivity and expressive editing, reveals a deeper truth
than objective representation.
The film introduces Marnie through character testimonies rather than offering immediate
identification with the protagonist. In its opening scene, a woman clutches a yellow handbag under her
arm and she walks steadily along a train platform. A tracking shot follows the faceless figure, locked
in close up on the yellow handbag, until suddenly freezing. As the shot turns static, the character
begins to mediate the distance between her body and the camera. The original close up gradually
transforms to a medium shot, and finally a long shot.
This technique momentarily suspends the omniscient gaze of the camera, and evokes the spectator s as
well as Hitchcock s desire to capture the female protagonist as she escapes off screen. In this context,
the seemingly objective tracking shot may in fact reveal itself as a violent, subjective

Persia And Greeks Compare And Contrast
Greece, which lasted from 480 BCE to 323 BCE and Persia, which stood standing from 550 BCE to
330 BCE, were two empires that flourished for centuries. Although they both had victorious moments
throughout their existence, they were constantly in battle with each other. These wars lasted for
hundreds of years. The casualties were plentiful but these fights often helped their cultures spread
throughout the lands. Even though Greece and Persia had contrasting religious beliefs and social
rankings, they both thought the powerful tasks belonged to the men, not women. The Greeks and
Persians had different religious views. The Greeks were polytheistic, as they believed in more than
one god; the Persians were monotheistic and followed Zoroastrianism. The Greeks ... Show more

This made the Greeks feel closer with the gods since the gods took lives as well. Other times, the
Greeks would just offer petite cakes or cups of wine. Lastly, when the Greeks wanted advice or to
know information about the future, they would visit oracle soracles; holy places where humans could
interact with the gods. The most popular oracle was that of Apollo in Delphi. People would bring
presents to Apollo and he would answer their questions through a separate female, the Pythia. The
Greeks would use this chance to communicate with the gods to prepare for the future. On the other
hand, the Persians followed a single god, Ahuramazda the god of Zoroastrianism. The specific
birthplace of this religion is a bit unclear; but since the founder, Zoroaster, was from the eastern part of
Iran, we can guess that this is where it all started. Zoroaster believed that Ahuramazda, also known as
the wise lord , made the world we all know. But this god was intimidated by Angra Mainyu, the
hostile spirit and his fellow demons. These two fight it out for over 12,000 years and as a result, the

Examining the Ethics of Plato and Aristotle Essay
This essay will be examining the ethics of Plato (428 347 BCE) and Aristotle (384 322 B.C). I will
firstly attempt to summarise the five fundamental concepts of Plato and Aristotle before providing my
own opinion and view on their ethics. I will concentrate on their theories on the good life as a life of
justice, censorship, knowledge and the good life.
I will first examine Plato s ethics. Plato was a philosopher who was both a rationalist and absolutist.
According to his view, people must be schooled to acquire certain kinds of knowledge i.e.
mathematics, philosophy and so forth. This training will give them the capacity to know the nature of
the good life. Since, evil is due to lack of knowledge.
Not all people have the mental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was how Plato perceived absolutism.
Aristotle s overlook on what is the good life as he used an empirical approach to ethics. The good life
as Aristotle defines it as one which has happiness as a characteristic or a life of happiness . Happiness
is an activity of the soul in accord with perfect virtue . People ought to behave so as to achieve
happiness . I believe that Aristotle s answer will be everyone always ought to follow the middle course
between certain kinds of activities. Aristotle uses an analogy to describe happiness. The analogy of
happiness is best described as how much a person can eat. For example, if a person believes that
having two cakes would be sufficient for his lunch, but if he believes that having one cake would not
be enough for his lunch, then how much is right for him? To be right for him, he must eat between one
and two cakes in order to satisfy his appetite. This is Aristotle s formula, the doctrine of the mean or
the preferred name golden mean . The Doctrine of the Mean is the moderation in all things. The
virtues we must have are virtues of moderation. This will be different for different people as Aristotle
believed. Aristotle is therefore a relativist.
I would now like to share my opinion and perspective on how I perceive the theories of Plato and
Aristotle. In my view, the better solution to the problem of the good life is Aristotle s belief rather than
Plato s belief of the good life. Firstly, Plato s

Effective leadership requires purpose and direction. Planning and preparation are vital when
evaluating the success of the institution. The course reading states: ?As a new principal, you must
assess the capacity of delivery mechanisms, facilities, and equipment before you make
recommendations for enhancements? (WGU Student Portal, January 5, 2017). Attention to detail,
being flexible and problem solving are at the core of school leadership. This paper will discuss two
types of delivery mechanisms as it relates to learning and provide specific examples of how programs
are used. Next, examine school facilities, technology and equipment, including use and specifications.
Finally, discuss process improvement as it relates to the educational institution.

Rooney Pickney Arledge
This quote was said by television broadcasting executive Roone Pickney Arledge, a person whom Life
Magazine declared One of the 100 most important Americans of the 20th Century and is considered
by many to be the father of modern televised sports (Boss). This quote by Arledge is an example of his
talent and know how for developing new ideas that not only provide a quality viewing experience, but
also appeal to a mass audience. His ideas were revolutionary, and changed the way sports were
watched and the entire television industry forever. I initially chose to write my paper on Roone
Arledge because I have been an avid watcher of televised sports for a long time, but I had never heard
of Arledge until reading the article The Impact of Roone Arledge on Televised Sports by Randy
Roberts and James Olsen in our required reading. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article because I
had previously never contemplated how differently sports were televised in the past, why sports
broadcasting is the way it is today, and who was largely responsible for this dramatic change. Roone
Arledge was born in Queens, New York City on July 8th, 1931 and grew up in the suburbs of Long

INTRODUCTION: Oil and gas theft and spillage along pipelines are caused by two major
phenomena: damages and ruptures. However, pipeline damages are mainly due to sabotage. Due to
diminished pipeline and aging process of the pipes there will be ruptures in pipeline. In Nigeria oil and
gas theft and spillage occurs due to a number of causes which include corrosion of pipeline and
tankers, sabotage, oil production operations and insufficient or non functional production equipment.
Pipeline rupture is caused due to very old and lack regular inspection and maintenance .As a result it is
causing environmental pollution and wastage of resources. To over come this problem an Engineering
Systems Development Company called Abuja Energy Surveillance (AES) Ltd has developed a new oil

Have you ever wondered how we progressed from an absolute monarchy in most countries to a more

period in Western history in which king(s)/queen(s) had absolute rule over the state they were the
absolute power over every decision and the religion that they had chosen. Although Political
Absolutism dominated the west for many years, the emergence of political philosophers and their

The Environmental Hazards Of Oily Sludge
AUTONUMLGL INTRODUCTION
The nature of threats to the environment posed by oily wastewater containing hydrocarbons, has led to
it being recognized as hazardous waste. Literature has shown that hydrocarbons contribute to the
greenhouse effect and global warming, deplete the ozone, increase occurrences of cancer and
respiratory disorders, and reduce the photosynthetic ability of plants. In addition, such hazardous
waste is primarily generated at growing rates, by various industries which utilize petroleum products
as energy sources and raw materials. The effective remediation of oily sludge has become a worldwide

It is worthwhile to examine the various definitions of oily sludge to recognize the multi layered issue
its clean up entails. It is also noteworthy that many definitions of systems engineering describe what it

The definition that depicts what oily sludge is comprised is as follows: Oily sludge is one of the most
significant solid wastes generated in the petroleum industry. It is a complex emulsion of various
petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs), water, heavy metals, and solid particles.

Blitzkrieg Fail German Germany On Nazi Germany
When Blitzkrieg Fails Nazi Germany on the Eastern Front
Throughout of the duration of World War Two, Germany s offensive tactic of Blitzkrieg served her
well; vital in the invasions of France, Poland, Belgium, and numerous other attacks. Yet, when
Germany faced trouble in the Battle of Britain and turned to the Eastern front instead, this tank,
infantry, and Luftwaffe method proved unsuccessful. Operation Barbarossa first began with little
resistance, as Germany swept quickly into the Soviet Union. It is not until winter set in that Blitzkrieg
began to fail, and the weak remainder of fighting on the Eastern front following the rough winter
finally showed Germany s weakness as their iconic tactic proved to be beatable.
Operation Barbarossa began on the morning of June 22nd 1941, when Germany attacked on the front
stretching from the Baltic to the Black Sea, first breaking the Nazi Soviet Non Aggression Pact.
Experts at their Blitzkrieg tactic by then, Germany pushed 50 miles into the Soviet Union in the first
day. Stalin, left with a weakened Red Army after purging past generals who would have proved
critical in this attack, enforced the scorched earth policy, in which his people burnt everything left
behind when they retreated; leaving nothing for the Germans. At that time, Hitler anticipated only an 8
week war. This seemed to be a reasonable idea initially, as they took Kiev, laid siege to Leningrad and
key cities on the way to Crimea all before winter. They had taken

The media used to portray tattoos as spontaneous, reckless, and drunken moments in one s life. Now
the media writes articles about good resources and how much money is needed to get a good tattoo
(Roberts 155). Even though most middle class working Americans have begun to accept tattoos, the
question in the air is if America as whole accepts tattoos now. By labeling tattoos as garish, outlandish
and having negative connotations, the author suggests that tattoos are still deviant (Roberts 155). For
many people, tattoos can be a form identification, and too others tattoos are actions that will be
marked as deviant behavior. 65% of people who were getting a tattoo, claimed to be worried about
possible employment rejection. Because of this their tattoos were placed in concealed parts of their

Analysis Of I Would Like About Tyler Perry Whose Career...
In this final chapter, I would like to begin by talking about Tyler Perry whose career has been guided
by his faith. He was named the highest paid man in entertainment by Forbes in 2011 having earned
US$130 million between May 2010 and 2011. This is a long way from the boy who grew up being
physically abused by his father and sexually abused by a woman in his neighborhood at the age of
only 10. By contrast to his father s beatings, Perry s mother took him to church where he found a safe
haven and contentment. Although he did not finish high school he was inspired to write by seeing
someone on the Oprah Winfrey Show talking about the therapeutic effect that writing gives a person.
He started writing a series of letters to himself which would eventually become the basis for the
musical I Know I ve Been Changed which was successfully performed in 1998. Using comedy to tell
the story, the play focused on how the two adult protagonists overcame the horrors of their lives by
their profound belief in God. However, before this success Perry was in Atlanta, Georgia and had used
up all of his savings and became homeless. For a period of six years in the 1990 s, he was living in his

The Development And Usefulness Of The Electric Car
The Development and Usefulness of the Electric Car
The idea of an electrically powered automobile was first generated by a Scottish man named Robert
Anderson. Anderson did not know at the time, but electric cars would go on to become a crucial part
of American daily life. The development of the electric car is one of the most important inventions in
history because of its ability to decrease air pollution, its potential to make America money, and its
advancement in technology which paved a path for generations to come. Every year the US spends
billions of dollars on the oil industry which is an immense contribution to our massive debt. The oil
industry also contributes to many of the problems that the world has with global warming and drastic
climate change. If the United States became a country that only used electric cars, the world would be
a much more pure, safe, stable place to live in. As America continues to drown itself in an
overwhelming amount of debt, the electric car is an invention that could decrease the debt and
contribute to getting America out of its debt. In 1839, a Scottish scientist named Robert Anderson had
the brilliant idea of creating an electric car. He discovered that cars did not have to run on gasoline but
could be propelled by an electronic charge. This discovery led to many new innovations from the
1830s to the 1860s, but then a frenchman named Gaston Planté created the first lead acid battery

They usually hate their parents. Almost every serial killer is abused as a child, whether it is sexually,
emotionally, physically, or psychologically. This abuse may come from a stranger or a family member,
but many serial killers try to lie about this history of abuse. Most serial killers have records of early
psychiatric problems and often spent time in institutions as children (i.e.: mental hospitals or
psychological rehabilitation centers). They have an intense interest in voyeurism, fetishism, and
sadomasochistic porn at a very early age, and they also have a very high rate of suicide attempts.
Future serial killers share three other traits in their childhoods. More than sixty precent of serial killers
wet their beds past the age of twelve. They also have a fascination with fire, which may be an early
manifestation of their fondness for mass destruction. In addition, almost every serial killer starts his
abuse and sadistic torture on animal victims (Fisher and Fisher, 2003). In the movie Lecter listens to

The Haitian Revolution Of 1791
The Haitian Revolution
To say that all men are born and created equally is an understatement to say the least. Speaking
morally, yes. But in reality, no. Especially if you are someone of African descent lost in the diaspora.
Case in point, the Haitian Revolution. Holding someone against their will and forcing them into
slavery is wrong. To force an unfair and unjustified debt upon a people for fighting for their freedom

of you culture is scrutinized and is used as a reason for those of the dominate society to place a ...

divided into two main groups: The planters and the petit blancs. The planters were the wealthy whites
that own plantations and slaves. The second and less powerful group known as the petit blancs was
made up of shop keepers, artisans, merchants, teachers, and different middle and underclass whites.
The petit blancs often had slaves but not that many as the planters. Both groups were committed to
slavery and anti black; they seen free blacks as a serious economic and social competitor. Next you
have the free people of color. They ranged in the number of 30,000. Half of which were mulattoes,
children of the slave owners and slave women. The other half were black slaves who were 500,000
strong, who had purchased their own freedom or was given freedom by their masters. The free blacks
were wealthy and that really didn t sit well with the petit blancs. Lastly, the maroons. They were a
large group of run away slaves who lived deep in the mountains and the kept alive the African ways
and traditions like voodoo. Maroons

  • 2. How can Philip Larkin s poetry be used to address the... The marginal or neglected can be seen to refer to individuals, a class or nation, to ideas that have been marginalised, to neglected forms such as poetry, and to the marginalised self. Philip Larkin is renowned for his use of the colloquial in his poetry, and he renews the importance of everyday language and words, that have been neglected and marginalised in forms of expression. Poetry itself is a specialist form; however Larkins poetry can be seen as homely and less dramatic. He brought back poetry as a relevant and accessible medium, as it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the fourth stanza, he describes what he feels now (l.18), and the use of mass images suggests a loss of identity. For example the plural images of the crowd, kids (ll.19 21), More houses, more parking allowed, / More caravan sites, more pay (ll.22 3). England is becoming meaningless, having no individual identity, where greeds / And garbage are too thick strewn (ll.51 2). The spectacled grins (l.25) represent the blandness of businessmen as they contemplate a commercial manoeuvre without taking account of the possible human consequences. Yet they are still mere grins, and not people. Modern industrial images are contrasted with the images of nature, such as the M1 café (l.20) and concrete and tyres (l.49). Industry is marginalising the countryside, neglecting it. In the third stanza he expresses the fairly naïve belief that nature is stronger and more resilient than man and it will be able to recover. Later in the poem however, the strength of nature, how the earth will always respond (l.14), is trapped. The only parts that will be bricked in are the tourist parts (ll.39 40), yet the reason for the tourism is suggested to be because we will become the first slum of Europe (l.41). The marginalisation of the importance of the countryside is unnecessary, as the dales are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Four Inter-Family Influences Of The Indo Aryan Language Hence if we look at all the Indo Aryan languages, one aspect if quite clear is that they are all derivatives of Sanskrit (Sebeok, 1963) which in turn have their roots set in Greek and Latin and made its way into Indian soil via the Indo Europeans (Sebeok, 1963). Out of all these Indo Aryan languages, Hindi is considered to be the most progressive, as it is the most analytical followed by Punjabi, Gujarati, Sindhi, Marathi, Bengali, and Oriya (Sebeok, 1963). 2.2.4 Inter Family Influences No languages can be given the title of pure language being devoid of any form of influence or mix from languages belonging to their neighbouring boundaries or languages it might have come in contact within the course of time. With the number of language families existing in the same soil over the number of years, there is bound to be influences of one on another. For example, the Indo Aryan languages have quite a few Non Indo Aryan borrowings (Bagchi, Levi and Bloch, 1929). It must be remembered that the Aryans had come into the Indian soil after the Dravidians and Tibeto Burma family already residing in the North western regions of India. It is seen that the ancient Indo Aryan language Sanskrit has strand of Pre Aryan languages namely, the Dravidian and Munda language (Sebeok, 1963). Prussia was a kingdom that existed nearly half a millennium ago as a patchwork of territorial fragments, with no significant resources founded yet or a coherent culture. With its capital in Berlin, Prussia grew from being a small, poor, disregarded medieval state into one of the most vigorous and powerful nations in Europe. 1 Prussia s involvement in the continent s foundational religious and political conflagrations. From the devastations of the Thirty Years War through centuries of political machinations to the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire. From the enlightenment of Frederick the Great to the destructive conquests of Napoleon. Then from the Iron and Blood policies of Bismarck to the creation of the German Empire in 1871, and all that implied for the tumultuous twentieth century. Prussia s government was monarchical from the 1700s all the way to the Great War. During all that time it increasingly valued a strong, formidable army, but was not so formidable when it met Napoleon during the Coalition Wars. It put forth effort in training and spending much of its money towards weapons and uniforms. The military technology and strategy of Prussia during 1860s and 1870s was outstanding. Especially with the mind of Otto von Bismarck (1815 1898) leading the way against Denmark, and later Austria, and then with his sneaky tactics he used against France before the Franco Prussian war in 1870. • 7. A Personal Philosophy of Education A personal philosophy of education serves to unify the experience of teaching for the individual. It provides our students with a professional that understands the context of learning from which their classroom stems. It also ensures a personal sense of growth: a lifelong process valued by the profession as a whole. I have combined beliefs from pedagogical, ethical and personally developed ideas I intend to use as a foundation in creating a nurturing classroom environment. Education could be defined ad infinitum, but for the purposes of synchronicity I have organized my beliefs in terms of four elements: enculturation, potential, inspiration and development. The meeting point of these ideas is the philosophical ideology of existentialist education. As defined by Dr. V.K. Maheshwari (2011), the origin of existentialism: rejects the existence of any source of objective, authoritative truth about metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics. Instead, individuals are responsible for determining for themselves what is true or false, right or wrong, beautiful or ugly. For the existentialist, there exists no universal form of human nature; each of us has the free will to develop as we see fit. The focus is entirely student centered, whereas the teacher serves as a guide seeking to educate the whole person. The goal of such a classroom is to develop a thoughtful, creative, self actualizing adult capable of rational thought, effective communication and independent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Corporate Finance For An Entrepreneur This research has been conducted to examine the importance of corporate finance to an entrepreneur, and the role it plays in an organization regardless of the structure of a company, or stage of growth. The various forms of ownership are reviewed for startup companies and major corporations to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each form of ownership, and to illustrate the importance of corporate finance. To provide a balanced view of ownership, less common forms of business ownership are examined using the same criteria to further illustrate the importance of corporate finance. Introduction Corporate finance is the area of finance dealing with sources of funding and the capital structure of corporations (Brealey, Myers, Allen, 2011). Corporate finance also relate to the corporate strategy of an organization (Universtiy, 2015) that managers employ to increase the value of the firm (Scarborough Cornwall, 2014, p. 71) for its shareholders (Brealey, et al., 2011). Understanding corporate finance is a critical skill for all managers, regardless to the type of business ownership. Some have argued the award was really for the whole series, but in many ways, The Last Battle really is the best of the seven stories. The order of reading the Chronicles which Lewis recommended is not the order in which they were written or published. Lewis suggested that new readers start with The Magician s Nephew, which tells of the creation of Narnia. This should be followed by The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, then The Horse and His Boy, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, and finally The Last Battle, which tells the story of the Narnian world brought to an end. Four of the stories deal with children entering the parallel, or secondary, world of Narnia, setting disorder to right, and then returning to their own world, only to find that no time at all has elapsed there. Sound has to be produced just right though, or else the result will be a high pitched squeak. The sound from the saxophone is made when one blows air into the mouthpiece, which causes a wooden reed to vibrate. Different pitches are produced when the air column is lengthened or shortened by pushing the keys up and down. The book Music: An Illustrated Encyclopedia, written by Neil Ardley, illustrates the importance of having keys, or buttons, on woodwind instruments such as the saxophone. ...woodwind instruments can produce more than 40 notes even though the player has only eight fingers and two thumbs with which to get them [keys]. The saxophone is considered one of the easiest instruments to play. Even neophytes are able to make a noise on the saxophone (even if it is more of a squeak). To make sound on a brass instrument, such as the trumpet, one needs to purse his lips just right, which can be difficult for many people. The Importance Of Oral Reading Assessment Throughout this process of giving assessments, I came to the conclusion that some assessments are more time efficient than others, while other assessments that take more time provide more useful information that allow a teacher to provide individualized instruction for each student. The assessment that took the most time was the Informal Phonics Survey, which required nearly twenty minutes for an individual child to take the assessment; however, because of the time commitment for each individual child, this assessment would not be an ideal source of information for an entire class. In contrast, the DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency assessment only required ten minutes to assess an individual child, and this assessment would be ideal for testing an entire class. I also realized that the Informal Phonics Survey provides more detailed information than the DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency assessment does, and although the IPS takes more time to administer, the information gives a teacher more insight into the specific strengths and weaknesses of each child in their classroom by breaking the test into smaller sections (letters, sounds, initial/final consonants, blends and digraphs, long and short vowels, closed syllables, soft c/g generalization, open syllables, special vowels, syllabication, and common syllables). • 20. Alfred Hitchcock s Marnie ( 1964 ) Alfred Hitchcock s Marnie (1964) depicts the psychological development of a young woman as she navigates a life of crime and familial melodrama, ultimately unlocking the suppressed memories that offer answers to her childhood traumas. The director utilizes evocative mise en scene, subjective point of view shots, and expressive lighting schemes in order to project the title character s internal state onto the physical world of the film. In doing so, Hitchcock crafts a diegetic universe that reflects the unique capabilities of film one that, through subjectivity and expressive editing, reveals a deeper truth than objective representation. The film introduces Marnie through character testimonies rather than offering immediate identification with the protagonist. In its opening scene, a woman clutches a yellow handbag under her arm and she walks steadily along a train platform. A tracking shot follows the faceless figure, locked in close up on the yellow handbag, until suddenly freezing. As the shot turns static, the character begins to mediate the distance between her body and the camera. The original close up gradually transforms to a medium shot, and finally a long shot. This technique momentarily suspends the omniscient gaze of the camera, and evokes the spectator s as well as Hitchcock s desire to capture the female protagonist as she escapes off screen. The good life as Aristotle defines it as one which has happiness as a characteristic or a life of happiness . Happiness is an activity of the soul in accord with perfect virtue . People ought to behave so as to achieve happiness . I believe that Aristotle s answer will be everyone always ought to follow the middle course between certain kinds of activities. Aristotle uses an analogy to describe happiness. The analogy of happiness is best described as how much a person can eat. For example, if a person believes that having two cakes would be sufficient for his lunch, but if he believes that having one cake would not be enough for his lunch, then how much is right for him? To be right for him, he must eat between one and two cakes in order to satisfy his appetite. This is Aristotle s formula, the doctrine of the mean or the preferred name golden mean . The Doctrine of the Mean is the moderation in all things. The virtues we must have are virtues of moderation. This will be different for different people as Aristotle believed. Aristotle is therefore a relativist. I would now like to share my opinion and perspective on how I perceive the theories of Plato and Aristotle.
