Standard Principles And Techniques For International Air...
ICAO English Language Proficiency Since the birth of the International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO) in 1947, this U.N. funded specialized agency has been a substantial catalyst
for the development of standard principles and techniques for international air navigation. In
addition, they continue to facilitate the promotion of safety and overall development in the
continuum of flight. Between the advances in regulations, aircraft operation, aeronautical charts, air
traffic services, aircraft accident investigations and much more, this powerful agency has
contributed to the vast majority of aspects that compose aviation. Out of these numerous
contributions, one of the many significant roles the ICAO has played since their upbringing... Show

Undeniably, there is an absolute necessity of mutual understanding between all pilots and
controllers. Perhaps the International Civil Aviation Organizations standardization of the English
language in aviation in 1951 was one of the most vital advances for flight safety. This official
language of aviation, for the most part, kept the skies relatively safe. It would not be until the 70 s
come around, when tragedy would hit and the ICAO would have to reevaluate their intervention
with communication within aviation.
Although English may have been the standard language permeating throughout the skies, the flaws
of air traffic communication would soon come into light. Basic misunderstandings turned into
colossal circumstances. According to a journal analysis:
On March 27th, 1977, after a tiring shift, the Dutch pilot of a Boeing 747 misunderstood a
clearance, after take off for a take off clearance and began rolling down a fog covered runway. He
announced to the tower that he was at takeoff . The non native English speaking air traffic controller
took the at to literally mean at the take off position . However, through fatigue or frustration, the
Dutch pilot had performed an error, that only bilingual speakers can call, code switching . It is
when one uses two languages concurrently. In this case the Dutch infinitive ing , (as in taking off),
but replaced with the English word at ...

five items mentioned in the case.
We first predict the annual demand for the year 1972 based on trend for 4 months of 1972 based
on corresponding months of 1971.
Calculations for Annual demand (R):
The assumption made here is that the same trend for sales as that for the four months of

Which system do you prefer?
EOQ/ ROP system:
Advantage1) The system achieves the balance between two costs ordering cost and the carrying
cost. 2) The system keeps track of removals from inventory on a continuous basis, so the system
can provide information on the current level of inventory for each item
3) The system helps meet the anticipated customer demand.
4) The system keeps buffers between successive operations to maintain continuity of production
(reducing the variability in demand at various stages).
Disadvantage1) EOQ/ROP system is essentially a reactive approach; this approach gives only an
order quantity, it does not suggest ways to reduce the inventory.
4
2) For implementation of EOQ a perpetual inventory counting system needs to be in place, this
implies substantial investments which might not be feasible for some.
3) Even if EOQ system is in place there is necessity to physically count the inventory periodically
in order to ascertain the accuracy of the system.
4) EOQ/ ROP is a static system that is, it does not change automatically with the change in
demand. For every period a new EOQ/ ROP needs to be established.
5) It is valid for a single product and not a basket of products. (Assumption made while deriving
the EOQ/ ROP.)
6) It does not take into account

E. Cummings Create Meaning
E.E. Cummings uses incomplete sentences and made up words to create meaning. How is that
possible? Edward Estlin Cummings was born in 1894, in Cambridge Massachusetts. He went to
Harvard to study Impressionism and Cubism. He has created many poems and has had a
successful life. The question here is, How does E.E. Cummings use vision and hearing to create
meaning? E.E. Cummings creates meaning by using Visual and Auditory techniques. To begin
with, E.E. Cummings uses visual techniques to create meaning. One way he used visual
techniques is by creating his poems in many different shapes and forms including spaces and
parenthesis. For example, in document A, the poem looks like a number one. Also in his poem, r p

Culture Is Defined As The Beliefs, Customs, And Arts
Merriam Webster states culture is defined: as the beliefs, customs, and arts, of a particular
society, group, place, or time. People think of culture as they think of a specific person(s) or a
region but with a little studying of culture they would understand what it really is. The first thing
we have to understand is that culture is taught, or learned over time. Culture is not something
you were born with or receive from your parents. People learn the different cultures through life
experiences, family, and friends. We as humans all require food, water, sleep and education on
important cultural characteristics in order to learn different culture. Everywhere in the world is
different and people come from all different parts of the world because culture is shared. We
learn from others and how people have live throughout the world. The next characteristic would
be symbols, symbols can be anything from money, art, and language. In parts of the world
language to a specific region is important to their culture. Culture is engraved into our brains at a
young age. A country like the United States, foreigners arrive into a new culture and learn to adapt
in many ways the same as we would have to while in another country. The last characteristic would
be dynamic, this means things change over time. People always have changed over time and areas
change as society grows and advancement in technology arises. There is actually remote islands

Community Of Practice
Introduction
As our world becomes increasingly complex, it is important for today s leaders to develop a
network of committed individuals who are willing to share knowledge and wisdom, challenge
beliefs, and invest in each other s success. These networks or communities of practice take many
different forms, such as professional learning communities (PLC), professional learning networks
(PLN), mentoring, coaching, social media groups, or social media chats. Even though each
community may take many different shapes and forms, they share common characteristics, such as
a mutual interest, meaningful interaction, and the investment of time. Although communities of
practice require a significant investment of time, interaction, and commitment, I ... Show more

Without time spent interacting and developing relationships with a group of individuals, we fail to
establish the trust that is necessary for growth to occur. Time helps develop the trust which is
required to challenge our thinking, motivate us to learn from others, and cultivate growth. A good
example of this occurred during the time of Jesus three year ministry on earth. He invested a
substantial amount of time mentoring, coaching, and challenging his disciples to adequately
prepare them to share the gospel throughout Europe and Asia.
In our fast paced society, finding time is a difficult task; however, throughout my interviews with
leaders from various professions, I have been reminded me of the correlation between time and
growth. Not only is time essential for developing trust, but it is also critical to growth. Many of the
leaders I interviewed have learned to spent significant amounts of time disciplining themselves
practice their skills, learn from others, and challenge their beliefs. Although I have always enjoyed
learning, I have found that I have isolated myself in my learning experiences. At times, I have
ignored and failed to appreciate the contributions of others. My ignorance has blinded me from
trying new ideas, challenging old beliefs, and trusting others enough to cultivate

3.Political/Philosophical act
Mahmoud Darwish wrote A State of Siege in 2002 as an emotional reaction to the second Intifada.
Or in other words, as a testimony to the tragedies on the political and humanitarian level that his
people have suffered. Darwish considers that it is both a philosophical and political fact that it is
necessary to refuse the status quo and fixity; he even considers it to be the engine for his survival.
He refuses to accept the circumstances given after the second Intifada, and this political act is clear
in the complete book length poem entitled A State of Siege : Because reality is an ongoing text,

In other words, it is when people use the image to show their approach and attitudes towards life
in their community and in the world. Or as Lakoff and Johnson said in their book concerning this
subject: a culture may be thought of as providing, among other things, a pool of available
metaphors for making sense of reality . The cultural approach of metaphors is what made
Mandelblit analyze the translation of metaphors from a cognitive perspective, which focuses on
the cultural beliefs and values of the source language and of the target language, especially when it
is the case between two very different languages. Arabic and English are languages that are very
distinct and on several levels; especially on the linguistic and cultural level. However, even if both
languages are different, the differences in economic, political and environmental factors among
numerous societies may be completely important, human societies are connected by a similar
biological history. The reality in which humans live is certainly not the same, but it is on the whole

Causes Of Migration
What are migration patterns? Migration patterns are the movement by people from one place to
another with wanting to settle down. The movement is usually over a long distance and/or from
one country to another. Human patterns of movement are because of the conditions of a changing
world and the impact of the cultural landscapes of both the places people migrate from and the
places they settle. What is migration? Migration is the movement of people from one place to

The first wave was the British who migrated to the US around the 16th century. Nearly 12 million
people migrated to the United States between 1970 and 1900. During 1870 and 1880, many people
migrated to the United States from Germany, Ireland, and England. The people who migrated from
Europe usually came through the East Coast. While the people who migrated from Asia usually
came through the West Coast. Around 70% of the people came through New York City, which
caused New York City become known as the Golden DOOR for immigrants. From the 17th to the
19th century, many African people were brought over illegally to the United States as slaves.
Around the 19th century, the United States also received around 5 million German migrants. In
1960, mainly Italian people migrated. During the middle of the 18th century, there were also many
Asian immigrants. In 2010, people from China mainly migrated to the United States. From 2010 to
around 2015, most immigrants who migrated over to the United States were mainly Mexicans or
Latin Americans. In the early 20th century, the people who migrated were mostly Europeans.
During the age of mass migration (around 1850 1913), more than 30 million people migrated to the
United States.

George Washington And The Era Of The American Revolution
A Freemason is a member of a major fraternal organization called Free and Accepted Masons or
Ancient Free and Accepted Masons that has certain secret rituals . George Washington was one of
the American elites to join the Freemasonry society, their intentions weren t to better themselves
but to mimic the English gentill behavior , even though the organization actually ending up
contributed to the development of the American Revolution. Through the start of this organization
George Washingtonand many of the American elites policies were influenced to what we know
them to stand for today. As president he advocated for many policies that happened to be very
heavily influenced by the Masons of the 18th century to which adhered to liberal democratic
principles that included religious toleration, loyalty to local government, and the importance of
charity .
The exact origin of Freemasonry is not known but the beginning of organized Freemasonry began
with the founding of the Grand Lodge of England on June 24, 1717, the first Grand Lodge in the
world . There is not an exact known origin of Freemasonry but two main theories are evolved
from this secret society. One begins with stonemasons, who built cathedrals and castles, in England
that had secret lodges in which they discussed trade affairs, initiation ceremonies, trade union
membership cards, and had secret signs and words to know if one were a trained mason moving
from site to site. These lodges, in the 1600 s, soon

The Importance Of Qualitative And Quantitative Data
Research tries to discover new evidence to identify facts to study and reach new results. Research
plays a major role in the society and it engages in discoveries, intelligence, and data collection. It
works to find out and understand how things behave and operate. (Allan, H. 1964) In Health and
Social Care researchis essential because it allows new discoveries to be made and allows
complicated problems to be solved to help improve and better the setting.
A wide variety of different methods are used to acquire information or data. Some of these data can
be classified into Quantitative and Qualitative data.
Quantitative data refers to the compilation of information statistically. Normally, these data are
collected numerically and are generally tested and verified with social surveys, case studies and
experiments, unlike interpretivists, positivists have a preference to use quantitative data. August
Comte, the founder of positivists, described positivism as a sociology of science and discovered true
knowledge through mathematical testing. (Landow, G. 2013)
According to the research process, quantitative data is useful since it allows researchers to analyse
and measure data. Quantitative data s disadvantage is, it does not study things in natural
environments or the significant issues of things to different people, while qualitative data is more
comprehensive and valuable to data due to their written information or witnesses. (Cheal, D. 2002)
Qualitative research is conducted

Health care for allHave you ever been severely sick to the point that you want to cry? Worse,
have you been so incredibly sick but unable to go to see the doctor for medical attention because
you don t have medical insurance? Unfortunately, the lack of health insurance is the harsh reality
that many Americans are faced with. In the United States, dozens of Americans go without
medical attention each year primarily because they cannot afford the cost of coverage.
Numerous Americans believe that all people should have the right to universal healthcare. The
right to Universal healthcare should be given to all Americans, it could save lives, improve
quality of life and promote the idea of a just society.Universal healthcare is much debated in the
U.S. and one view is that if granted, Americans will overuse this right and abuse the privilege.
The thoughts of many regarding free healthcare in the U.S. is that people will overuse simply
because they do not have to worry about the cost. The argument that free of any financial
responsibility, will lead to careless use and abuse of the service is a common idea amongst the
people. Some examples of misuse of medical treatment would be taking medications when they are
not necessary or even going to see a medical provider when you are not actually sick.

While Big Biotech claims that humans won t experience the same kind of damage, studies out of

consensus that once widely released recalling transgenes or different DNA sequences whose safety

American Politics Vs. The Netflix Series House Of Cards
Provisional Title
A Case Study on American politics portrayed in House of Cards and its correlation to the current
political climate
1 Introduction
The American Netflix series House of Cards is a political drama that follows Frank Underwood
(Kevin Spacey) rising through the ranks from Democratic Majority Whip in the House of
Representatives to Vice President and later President of the United Statesby achieving his political
power through manipulation and ruthless pragmatism with the aid of his wife Claire Underwood
(Robin Wright).
Along with its fictional and hyperbolic representation of Washington DC and its controversial
political visions, House of Cards takes on various current real life debates of American politics in a
satirical and often cynical way.
1.1The research problem
This case study will examine American politics portrayed in the Netflix series House of Cards to
find out how the depicted political themes and the use of satire relate to the current political
environment in the United States in order to find similarities to real world politics and determine
what is fact and what is fiction in the series.
The cross sectional research that will be undertaken will employ the use of a qualitative research
design. The first phase of data collection will examine the use of political satire and analyse the
various political themes portrayed in the series House of Cards. Semi structured expert interviews
will focus in the second phase on relating the themes and

Personal Narratives Have Deep Origins In Ancient History.
Personal narratives have deep origins in ancient history. Narratives and personal essays were
used by ancient writers and philosophers like Cicero, Seneca, and Plutarch to reflect on their
individual experiences. The actual idea of the personal essay was named and perfected by late
16th century writer Michel de Montaigne, who attempted, or essayed, to describe his experiences
in the context of the world around him. He claimed that the subject of my work is me. In other
words, the purpose of the personal essay or narrative is to incorporate self experiences in informal
reflections about the world. In the modern age, the focus of art, literature, and philosophy shifted
towards the individual and the importance of self, the emotions, and... Show more content on

In the account, Dillard recalls a memory from her youth of the events of one winter day. Young
Dillard and her friends were throwing snowballs at passing cars. One car owner actually got out of
his car and chased Dillard and her friends through their neighborhood, before finally catching and
then letting them go. Dillard uses a personal experience from her youth to impart the lesson that
one must fling themselves at something in order to get it. While Annie Dillard s The Chase recalls
a childhood memory, George Orwell s Shooting an Elephant refers to Orwell s experience from his
adult life. At the time of the narrative, Orwell was a sub divisional police officer in Burma. He is
faced with the choice of shooting an elephant that had gone rogue to gain the respect of the
natives or letting the elephant be and returning it to its holder. Orwell chooses to shoot the
elephant in order to appease the natives. In his narrative, Orwell explores the idea of power
through his own experience as an adult. In personal narratives, authors typically use description to
make the story more relatable and engaging to the audience. This is done, in part, by sensory
details. Sensory details enable the author to recreate their personal experience for the reader. In
addition, the descriptions help the reader better relate to the author. Sensory details also enable
understanding, as understanding can be a

Happy New Year s Eve Everyone !
Happy New Year s Eve everyone!
Now going back to my previous blog, I promised to start off each blog with a story from my life, so
here goes nothing.
Now there was a time where, we were all kids. For some of you that might have been ten years
ago, and for others of you, that might have been last year aha! There was a time when I was
about 7 years old. Now, after my parents divorced, my mother, my sisters and I lived in an
apartment complex. My younger sister, Alexis (age 6), and I were quick to make friends with
our neighbors, a girl named Madison (age 6), and her younger brother named Parker (age 5). They
were a little younger than us, but they were just as animated and active as we were. Now, Parker

All of a sudden, Parker loses control of the bike and starts to head down the hill. Alexis
immediately jumps off of the bike, and tells Parker to jump off, with Parker screaming, I can t

trying to push his Harley up the hill. Madison runs home, and their parents come and takes Parker
s Harley out of the bushes and up the hill. His parents were very understanding when we told them
what happened, but Parker goes to say, I m not sure I can marry that gal after this!
Now thinking back on this story, I couldn t do anything except laugh! This story definitely put a
lot of things into perspective for me, when I relate it to my life experiences now. This story allows
me think about how I will approach things, going into the New Year. How I will approach conflict,
how I will approach drama, how I approach negativity. When thinking about those things, it gave
me three main points on how I can better myself, but also better the core of my heart.
1. Don t treat people how they treat you.

Should Convicts Right To Be Informed Essay

Some challenges are to choose where he or she would want to live under this if the person was

bit but with everything that happens at half way house most choice not the stay which mean they

research on the psychodynamic theory will be reviewed. The conflict analysis previously

conflict, I have come to conclusion that my sister displaced conflict. Raven asserted the
hardship that she was currently going through and after analyzing the psychodynamic theory, I
realized that she was taking her frustration out on the wrong people. Over those past couple of
days, she has continually been building up her anger and she should have explained her
frustration with her friend that she was having issues with. After the fact, Raven realized that
she displaced her conflict. She made apologies to me because she felt bad that I had to deal with
her attitude and drive her home. Raven let her internal state of mind dictate our interaction. The
battle between her id and superego she experienced was from her not being able to keep friends.
This then lead to anxiety, repression and frustration. Knowing the type of relationship, we have, I
believe that I was an easy target for her to take her frustration out on. According to Lesser (1978),
despite the very basic fact that siblings spend at least as much time together as parents do with

The selfless act the gods committed led to one of the major reasons for human sacrifices which
was that since the gods gave up their own life for the creation of the new world, that the Aztecs
had to somehow respect and honor their action. They did this by creating an eighteen month
calendar, which dedicated each month to a certain god. The Aztecs used scared and solar
calendars to tell time and when all the possible combinations had been used, usually every fifty
two years, the Aztecs would go through a twelve day period before the cycle started again (Benson
506).
There were many different methods the Aztecs used to sacrifice their victims but most sacrifices
centered on the method of heart extraction. The victims were, thrust onto the stone, where a temple
priest cut through their chest wall with a ritual flint knife, and the heart was, [offered] to the sun for
vitality and nourishment, ( Aztec Human Sacrifices ). There was also the act of burning the victim
alive in the sacrificial fire but before they reached death they were taken out and their heart would
be taken out (Callery 33). Victims were not the only ones that were sacrificed; priests also
conducted a method of sacrifice called bloodletting. The priest would begin by punctuating his
tongue or any other body part and then proceeding to letting blood flow out ( Aztec Human
Sacrifices ). A torture method of the Aztecs that might be

ALIGN ADMINISTRATIVE PRACTICES WITH THE ISLLC

We have all met successful leaders that we wondered what enabled them to be effective.
Some were like diamonds, smooth and some are rough. Some are charming and some.....lets that
leave it at that. However you see yourself, whatever your age may be, as soon as you are the one
who makes decisions or exercises authority or make that exciting first hire, you have taken the first
steps in becoming a powerful leader.
While research suggests that the possession of certain traits alone does not guarantee leadership
success, there is evidence that effective leaders are different from other people in certain key
respects. Stogdill (1948) concludes a person does not become a leader by virtue of the possession

All leaders are sometimes faced with situational cases; sometimes, you have to settle a teacher or
staff conflict, and trust people and their judgments. That s why having a good sense of judgment
and taking risks is beneficial to becoming a good leader. The final leadership attribute that I view as
essential is shared vision and communication.
Leaders continue to demonstrate the ability to communicate the vision to staff, parents, students,
and community members through the use of symbols, ceremonies, stories, and other activities.
Knowing what you want accomplished may seem clear in your head, but if you try to explain it
to someone else and are met with a blank expression, you know there is a problem. I am sure that
we all can relate to that experience at some point in our lives. If this has been your experience,
then you may want to focus on honing your communication skills. Being able to clearly and
concisely describe what you want done is extremely important. If you can t relate your vision to
your team, fellow colleagues and students, you won t all be working towards the same goal.
A leader s strength in communicating is enhanced by humor, trust, and ability to listen to other

Richard Muhlfeld s His Quintet For Clarinet, 2 Violins,...
In his Quintet for Clarinet, 2 Violins, Viola, and Cello Op. 115, Brahms creates an important and
influential work in the chamber music repertoire. By writing his Quintet for the specific clarinetist
Richard MГјhlfeld s artistic brilliance, and by taking musical liberties with conventional forms and
expectations, Brahms crafts the intimacy and seriousness one has come to expect from chamber
music. Towards the end of his life, Brahms had intended on retiring from composing. Around 1891,
the Meiningen orchestra, with whom Richard MГјhlfeld held his career with, frequently featured
Brahms s music at well known festivals in the area. Previous to meeting MГјhlfeld, Brahms had no
interest in centering his writing onto the clarinet. He felt the... Show more content on

The Joachim Quartet concerts were known for being a major series performing strictly string
chamber music. Brahms had convinced Joachim with his manuscripts that the work was worthy of
the sacrifice of adding clarinet and piano to the series. The highly regarded reputation of the
Joachim concerts certainly allowed for the seriousness of the Quintet to be featured, for all of the
cleaver composition techniques Brahms employed were certainly appreciated by the intellectual
audiences the Quartet frequently attracted. The Quintet follows the general guidelines for form that
audiences of the time have come to expect from serious string chamber music pieces. The first
movement acts as a Sonata form with some unexpected variation, the second as a three part song
form. The third and fourth movements begin to some unconventional practices. In the third, instead
of a scherzo movement in 3/4 time, we get a sonata allegro in 4/4 and 2/4 time. In the fourth, the
audience gets a theme and variations, but the tempo is considerably slower than what one would
normally expect from a concluding movement. In 1891, the only memorable clarinet quintet was
composed by Mozart. If one were to come into a performance of the Brahms Quintet with Mozart s
Quintet in mind, they would expect the clarinet to take the most important role, with the strings
accompanying more often than not. This is certainly not the case in Brahms s work, as the

The Pros And Cons Of Estes Roadway
The safety of the people shall be the highest law, (Cicero n.d. p1). Throughout history, the safety of
people has been arguably the most important objective of the government. Political leaders have
made a force including police, fire fighters, and etc. to keep the common population safe.
Unfortunately the system set up is not the most efficient at locating mistakes that could potentially
bring harm to citizens. Within the city of Longview, located in Texas, there is one of these mistakes
posing a threat to the population of the city. On the south side of the city there is a three way
intersection between the roads Estes Parkway (running north and south) and Highway 281 (running
from the west to Estes Parkway). This intersection designed... Show more content on

All of these solutions provide a viable way of increasing the safety of drivers in the intersection
and also make the intersection easier to follow direction. The first solution is based upon the idea
that the light pole will be shifted from the right side of Estes Parkway running north to the left side
between the median. This solution would eliminate the two extra traffic lights above the parallel
road, and focus on the intersection. The main issue with this idea is the cost involved with moving
the traffic light. According to the WSDOT it costs the taxpayer $250,000 to $500,000 to purchase
and install a traffic signal (WSDOT, n.d.). This also does not incorporate the amount of money
that it would take to provide the construction to move the light from one side of the street to the
other. Over all, this first solution could take upwards to 600,000 dollars to complete. The second
solution to the intersection is based on the idea that the two traffic lights over the intersection
could be taken down and in replacement there would be a sign placed in the spot instead. This
would provide an easy understanding of the intersection and also the drivers would not be
confused on which sign was meant for them. This change would save the city around 16,000
dollars a year based off of calculations from WSDOT in the amount of money it takes to maintain
traffic lights a year. Again there would have to be a little construction, however, the cost to make
this solution a reality would be much more cost efficient for the tax payers dollars. Finally, the third
option is to completely redesign the intersection as a roundabout. The average cost to put an
intersection in is just underneath 450,000 dollars (FHWA, 2015). That number however does not
even begin to cover the operating expenses of the intersection. WSDOT amounts the cost of
maintenance and electricity per year to be about 8,000

Contest. It is a well known fact that the song contest is one of the most famous television show
contests in Europe and internationally. What impact did Eurovision have on the post World War II
days?
Throughout the essay, I will aim to discuss the original idea of the Eurovision Song Contest and
its effects as well as the milestones of the show in the light of their impact. The first show I will
introduce is the year 1974 when ABBA won the contest and the Portuguese song became the
anthem of the revolution against their government (Morais, 2007). The second show I will
analyze is the year 1998 when the Israeli Dana International became the first transgender winner of

Trade Barriers In International Trade
With economic globalization, international trade is developing and growing at an unprecedented
rate. After China joined the WTO, international trade tariffs reduced significantlyпј›many non tariff
barriers were also reduced. However, some countries have adopted some new trade restrictions in
order to protect their industries and markets. The green barrier policy is a kind of trade protection
means which has been frequently used by the developed countries since the 1990s, it has created
unequal trade relations for a vast number of developing countries and caused huge economic losses
to these developing countries. It has become the new obstacle for international trade. Briefly, the
problems are: first, an increase in the cost of enterprises, affecting the international competitiveness
of enterprises and second, the implementation of green trade barriers hindering the development of
the Chinese export trade. This essay will examine these problems in more detail and seek to offer
possible solutions. One problem that trade barriers have caused is that they increase the cost of
enterprises, affecting the international competitiveness of enterprises. For a long time, due to the
low technological content of Chinese export products, mainly to win international markets at low
prices, the developed countries have adopted some ways, such as the green subsidy system, the
green packaging system, the green fortress and so on. By imposing import surcharges, increasing

Themes in Blue Velvet
Exploring the Dark Side: Contrasting Themes in Blue Velvet
The subconscious psyche is one of the most fascinating and almost completely inexplicable aspects
of human behavior. Even more intriguing than merely the subconscious is the notion of a darker,
more repressed side that many individuals refuse to acknowledge exists within them. In David
Lynch s film Blue Velvet, the director attempts to explore the psyche of a young man named
Jeffrey Beaumont, most notably the clash between his darker side and good side for the first time
in his life. Using themes that sharply contrast one another, Lynch provides insight into the character
of Jeffrey and the struggle that he is faced with. Jeffrey is in a transitional period of his life, ... Show

Lynch chooses to use such stark contrast in an effort to establish not only the differences in one
s perception, but of the psyche as well. The opening sequence is used by Lynch as a metaphor
for Jeffrey s state of mind throughout the entire film, as Jeffrey realizes he has a dark side yet is
trying (most of the time) to suppress it. The town of Lumberton, like Jeffrey, is an idealized
version of what America and Americans should be like and yet, much like Jeffrey s mind, it is
full of dark secrets and contradictions. One aspect of Jeffrey s psyche being explored is the
notion of his battle between innocent love for a young girl and the animalistic lust he possesses
for an older, more mature woman. The good or innocent side of Jeffrey is personified in the
character of Sandy. Sandy is often depicted wearing light colors, with blue eyes and perfectly
brushed blonde hair. When Sandy is first introduced into the film, she enters through utter darkness,
stepping out of the shadows and into the light in a medium shot. Lynch follows this up with a long
reverse tracking two shot in which Jeffrey and Sandy make small talk and innocently flirt with one
another. Dorothy s introduction into the film, however, is quite different. The film first truly
introduces the audience and Jeffrey to Dorothy with a subjective shot from her closet. After
breaking into Dorothy s apartment and

Cerebral Phalsy Argumentative Essay
Despite the growing amount of resources available for those with cerebral palsy, many parents
and clinicians are looking for alternative treatments. One such treatment is known as conductive
education (CE). The basic idea is that people with motor disorders (e.g. cerebral palsy) may have
special learning disabilities on top of their motor impairments (Darrah et al., 2003). While initial
results seemed promising, two reviews showed that many of the studies produced conflicting
results, and that more robust studies were needed in order to come to a conclusion about CE
(Forssberg et al., 2000; Darrah et al., 2003). Yet another alternative treatment is goal directed
training. Goal directed training is a method where specific goals and interventions... Show more

One of the most exciting treatments being discussed and researched currently is neurotoxic protein
Botulinum toxin type A (BoTN A). By injecting BoNT A into spastic muscles, one can potentially
reduce the spasticity present from 3 6 months (Simpson et al., 2008; Scholtes et al., 2006; Dai et
al., 2008; Yang et al., 2008). It does this by weakening the muscle that it is injected into, effectively
relaxing the stiff muscles in cerebral palsy (Bihari, 2005). Additionally, BoNT A injections can
increase the motor functionality of a patient and reduce or prevent deformity (Apkon Cassidy,
2010). The effects are reversible, so after this time period has passed, BoNT A must be reinjected
into the muscle. The main focus of the injections are for spastic or dystonic muscles. Some, though,
have shown that whilst BoNT A injections are helpful in the upper and lower extremities, there is
conflicting evidence regarding motor function (Delgado et al., 2010). BoNT A injections may even
be combined with any number of physiotherapies, occupational therapies, orthotics or casting as
described above to increase its effectiveness (Novak et al., 2013). With these other measures,
walking performance and hand functionality improved (Novak et

Examples Of Weakness In Sissy s
One of the themes in this book is that no person is without fault; we all have weakness. This is

How Did Buddy Holly Influence Popular Music
Even Though Bob Dylan and Buddy Holly are both singer/song writers, their journeys have taken
them down completely different paths. One has had a long career in the industry and the other has
unfortunately has had a short career. Both have had wonderful and successful lives and are still
well known for what they accomplished with their music. Buddy Hollyplayed rock n roll for a few
short year but the music he recorded in that time has made a major and forever lasting impact on
popular music. Not only did he write his own music, but he was also the first to exploit advanced
studio techniques such as double tracking, (rockhall.com). Bob Dylanon the other hand is a
recognized poet laureate of the rock n roll era and the pre eminent singer/songwriter of modern
times. No matter if he is singing topical folk songs, exploring rootsy rock and blues, or delivering
one of his abstract, allegorical compositions, he is always demonstrating a rare ability to reach
listeners with his lyrics, (rockhall.com).
Buddy Holly was born on September 7th, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas. His birth name was Charles
Hardin Holley, he is the youngest out of four children. He got the name Buddy from his mother,
who felt his birth name was too big for a young boy. Holly learned to play the piano and the fiddle
when he was pretty young, and his brothers taught him how to play the guitar. After Buddy
graduated High School, he formed a band that played country and western songs on the radio. He

The Art Of Alabama s Performance Of A Chorus Line
In the University of Alabama s performance of A Chorus Line, the performers tackled this
infamous piece for its dramatizations of what actors and performers endure in the line of work
that is theatre. As explained by the actors in the documentary Every Little Step , being a performer
in A Chorus Line is the ultimate dream because it was made by actors for actors. There were a few
factors that made the University of Alabama s performance stand out to me including the
choreography, seeing the documentary Every Little Step before the show, and the live music. I was
in absolute awe after watching the choreography of the performance. Although the choreography
was not exactly the same as the performances on broadway, I almost enjoyed it better

Charles Perrault Research Paper
Charles Perrault was born into a middle class family in France in 1628. Charles also received a
law degree in 1651. Cinderella was one of the first stories that was written for children. Before that
children would just read adult literature. Cinderella or the little glass slipper by Charles Perrault is
a folk tale embodying a myth element of unjust oppression/triumphant reward. It is thought that
Perrault mistakenly wrote that Cendrillon s slipper was made from glass (Charles perrault, 2006).
The French words glass (verre) and fur (vair) are very similar so it is thought that a mistranslation
led to the inclusion of the famous glass slippers (Cinderella; or, The Little Glass Slipper, 2003.).

Stradivarius Violin Research Paper
The construction of the Stradivarius violin is very unique compared to the build of other violins,
whether they were made centuries ago or serve as modern day instruments. While there are a
number of other rare violins and instruments of different kinds, not even one has ever came
remarkably close to achieving what Antonio Stradivari has with the making of his stringed
instruments, in particular, his violins. Over the years there have been many attempts to reproduce
the authentic sound quality of his instruments, but no one has ever been able to achieve this goal.
What exactly makes the Stradivarius violinso unique? The materials used to make the instrument
along with his method of construction and the time period in which it was constructed... Show more

Stradivari was actually well in touch with the results of other impressive instruments that had been
constructed before his. He was able to gain experience by comparing the many instruments built
by the early Brescian and Cremonese makers by deducing from them the aspects that made them
unfavorable and applying these aspects to his own creative works. Every generation has
contributed something to the construction of musical instruments, and Stradivari combined these
centuries of contributions to create something astounding that opened up a new chapter in
history. While it is a known fact that Stradivari got a lot of inspiration from previous
violinmakers (Visconti, who is a well known violinist, is said to have given advice to this master
of violin construction), people insist that he was a natural born genius, so much so that he has
been claimed to be a superhuman . Based on scientific principles, many different works have been
written based on the unsurpassed tonal qualities found in his instruments. However, there has also
been a daily study of Stradivari s works that were compared to those of the craftsmen who came
before him. When put to the test it was found that the density of the bellies and backs of Stradivari
s instruments were made based on the principles of Gasparo, in addition to the result of a gradual
progression, which Maggini and Amatis had in common with him. Those who have examined his
work have noted that Stradivari adjusted the thickness of his instruments, but there is no indication
that he used any principles as a guide other than what has been derived from the practices of his
forerunners. Stradivari left the backs and bellies of his instruments a little thinner (or stouter), with
their backs displaying a larger variation than their

The Negative Effects Of Stress
Stress, what is it, how it Affects you and How to Deal With it
Riley C. Keim

Stress, what is it, how it Affects you and How to Deal With it
Stress can have both positive and negative effects on your body. Stress is what gives a person that
last burst of energy in a competition. Stress is what keeps people up at night, what makes them
stray from their normal diet and it can even go as far as making someone physically ill.
What is stress? Stress is one s body s natural response to threats and pressure. Athletes feel stress
during any game or race, students feel stress before a big test or exam. Workers feel stress when
they are assigned to a big project or up for a promotion. Stress causes feelings of nervousness,
low energy, and even tenses us up and makes us feel on edge and easily irritable. When a person
is stressed out their adrenal gland kicks into overdrive causing high levels of adrenaline in the brain.
Distress is negative stress in a person s life. Examples of distress may include,
The death of a family member
The death of a lifelong friend
Separation from your spouse
The end of a long relationship Having money issues
If distress is not handled correctly it can lead to the feelings of hopelessness, irritability, and even
getting physically ill.
Eustress is the good stress in a person s life. Eustress can be caused by events such as
Entering into big tournaments
Being up for a promotion at work
The holiday seasons

Differences Between Craft And Design
Intro
There have been many debates on whether craft and design are different or similar. Risatti
(2008:116) states that although craft and design are closely related, there is a distinction between
them. Crafts have been developed within cultures, but have been modified by design and both
involve a different way of thinking. So are they one and the same or different? In this essay I m
going to go through 6 different examples; tradition, innovation, method, materials, uniqueness and
lifestyle, where design has taken the simple craft and changed it to something new, proving my
point that craft and design are in fact more different than the same.
Tradition
There is a noticeable difference in how craft and design play a role in tradition. Craft is a way the
people of a culture expressed there believes, whereas design has challenged it. Figure 1 is a
traditional vase used specifically for fetching water. Cultural stories/beliefs were painted on them,
this makes it easier to recognise which culture it came from. Figure 1 is made ... Show more content

Craft focuses on the hand made detail where design is more factory orientated. Risatti (2008:116)
states that craft objects are the outcome of a skilled hand directly working the material and
design object are of industrial methods where hands might not even be part of the equation at
all. In figure 3 we have a wooden peg doll which is the 1400 s Barbie doll. This doll is very simple
in shape and colour and we can see it s been hand crafted and a lot of time was spent on it,
whereas in figure 4 we have the ever after high first chapter apple white doll . This doll has been
made by machine, painted by machine and is mass produced by machine. There is a lot more
detail been put into the doll with a lot less effort. This is a great example how we can take the
same idea for craft and design and show how different methods can influence the

The Similarities Between Christianity, Islam, And Judaism
Christianity, Islam and Judaism are known as the Abrahamic religions because they can trace their
history to the covenant God made with Abraham in the Hebrew Bible (da wah). While there are
many differences between the three religions, the similarities are even stronger and make them
unique in comparison to the other religions of the world. First and foremost, Christianity, Islamand
Judaism believe their religionas the one and only true religion and they believe that all
nonbelievers are condemned. Islam believes that the Christians and Jews are to be respected as
people, but have the wrong beliefs and have only partial revelation. Christianity believes that Islam
is a false religion and that while Judaism is a true religion, it has incomplete revelation. Judaism
believes that both Christianity and Islam are both false interpretations and that are both just
extensions of Judaism.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Muslim faith, Allah is the name of their One true God. Allah has no plural or gender,
which shows uniqueness when compared to the word god, which can be used as gods, or
goddess (Allah). In Judaism, God is written as G d, which is a way of avoiding writing the name
of G d, to avoid the risk of the sin of erasing or defacing the Name. The Judaism faith believes in
no other God, seeing him as a single, whole, complete indivisible entity. The faith believes that G
d is the only being to whom we should offer praise. Christianity believes in one God, Before Me
there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me. In (Isaiah 43:10) The Bible teaches that
there is only one god and he is the God of the

In addition, they continue to facilitate the promotion of safety and overall development in the continuum of flight. Undeniably, there is an absolute necessity of mutual understanding between all pilots and controllers. Perhaps the International Civil Aviation Organizations standardization of the English language in aviation in 1951 was one of the most vital advances for flight safety. This official language of aviation, for the most part, kept the skies relatively safe. It would not be until the 70 s come around, when tragedy would hit and the ICAO would have to reevaluate their intervention with communication within aviation. Although English may have been the standard language permeating throughout the skies, the flaws of air traffic communication would soon come into light. Basic misunderstandings turned into colossal circumstances. According to a journal analysis: On March 27th, 1977, after a tiring shift, the Dutch pilot of a Boeing 747 misunderstood a clearance, after take off for a take off clearance and began rolling down a fog covered runway. He announced to the tower that he was at takeoff . The non native English speaking air traffic controller took the at to literally mean at the take off position . EOQ/ ROP system: Advantage1) The system achieves the balance between two costs ordering cost and the carrying cost. 2) The system keeps track of removals from inventory on a continuous basis, so the system can provide information on the current level of inventory for each item 3) The system helps meet the anticipated customer demand. 4) The system keeps buffers between successive operations to maintain continuity of production (reducing the variability in demand at various stages). Disadvantage1) EOQ/ROP system is essentially a reactive approach; this approach gives only an order quantity, it does not suggest ways to reduce the inventory. 4

Research plays a major role in the society and it engages in discoveries, intelligence, and data collection. It works to find out and understand how things behave and operate. (Allan, H. 1964) In Health and Social Care researchis essential because it allows new discoveries to be made and allows complicated problems to be solved to help improve and better the setting. Quantitative data refers to the compilation of information statistically. Normally, these data are collected numerically and are generally tested and verified with social surveys, case studies and experiments, unlike interpretivists, positivists have a preference to use quantitative data. August Comte, the founder of positivists, described positivism as a sociology of science and discovered true knowledge through mathematical testing. (Landow, G. 2013) According to the research process, quantitative data is useful since it allows researchers to analyse and measure data. Quantitative data s disadvantage is, it does not study things in natural environments or the significant issues of things to different people, while qualitative data is more comprehensive and valuable to data due to their written information or witnesses. They did this by creating an eighteen month calendar, which dedicated each month to a certain god. The Aztecs used scared and solar calendars to tell time and when all the possible combinations had been used, usually every fifty two years, the Aztecs would go through a twelve day period before the cycle started again (Benson 506). There were many different methods the Aztecs used to sacrifice their victims but most sacrifices centered on the method of heart extraction. The victims were, thrust onto the stone, where a temple priest cut through their chest wall with a ritual flint knife, and the heart was, [offered] to the sun for vitality and nourishment, ( Aztec Human Sacrifices ). There was also the act of burning the victim alive in the sacrificial fire but before they reached death they were taken out and their heart would be taken out (Callery 33). Victims were not the only ones that were sacrificed; priests also conducted a method of sacrifice called bloodletting. The priest would begin by punctuating his tongue or any other body part and then proceeding to letting blood flow out ( Aztec Human Sacrifices ). A torture method of the Aztecs that might be ... Leaders continue to demonstrate the ability to communicate the vision to staff, parents, students, and community members through the use of symbols, ceremonies, stories, and other activities. Knowing what you want accomplished may seem clear in your head, but if you try to explain it to someone else and are met with a blank expression, you know there is a problem. Being able to clearly and concisely describe what you want done is extremely important. • 23. Richard Muhlfeld s His Quintet For Clarinet, 2 Violins,... In his Quintet for Clarinet, 2 Violins, Viola, and Cello Op. 115, Brahms creates an important and influential work in the chamber music repertoire. By writing his Quintet for the specific clarinetist Richard MГјhlfeld s artistic brilliance, and by taking musical liberties with conventional forms and expectations, Brahms crafts the intimacy and seriousness one has come to expect from chamber music. Towards the end of his life, Brahms had intended on retiring from composing. Around 1891, the Meiningen orchestra, with whom Richard MГјhlfeld held his career with, frequently featured Brahms s music at well known festivals in the area. The Joachim Quartet concerts were known for being a major series performing strictly string chamber music. Brahms had convinced Joachim with his manuscripts that the work was worthy of the sacrifice of adding clarinet and piano to the series. The highly regarded reputation of the Joachim concerts certainly allowed for the seriousness of the Quintet to be featured, for all of the cleaver composition techniques Brahms employed were certainly appreciated by the intellectual audiences the Quartet frequently attracted. The Quintet follows the general guidelines for form that audiences of the time have come to expect from serious string chamber music pieces. The first movement acts as a Sonata form with some unexpected variation, the second as a three part song form. The third and fourth movements begin to some unconventional practices. In the third, instead of a scherzo movement in 3/4 time, we get a sonata allegro in 4/4 and 2/4 time. In the fourth, the audience gets a theme and variations, but the tempo is considerably slower than what one would normally expect from a concluding movement. In 1891, the only memorable clarinet quintet was composed by Mozart. If one were to come into a performance of the Brahms Quintet with Mozart s Quintet in mind, they would expect the clarinet to take the most important role, with the strings accompanying more often than not. Throughout history, the safety of people has been arguably the most important objective of the government. Political leaders have made a force including police, fire fighters, and etc. to keep the common population safe. Unfortunately the system set up is not the most efficient at locating mistakes that could potentially bring harm to citizens. Within the city of Longview, located in Texas, there is one of these mistakes posing a threat to the population of the city. All of these solutions provide a viable way of increasing the safety of drivers in the intersection and also make the intersection easier to follow direction. The first solution is based upon the idea that the light pole will be shifted from the right side of Estes Parkway running north to the left side between the median. This solution would eliminate the two extra traffic lights above the parallel road, and focus on the intersection. The main issue with this idea is the cost involved with moving the traffic light. According to the WSDOT it costs the taxpayer $250,000 to $500,000 to purchase and install a traffic signal (WSDOT, n.d.). This also does not incorporate the amount of money that it would take to provide the construction to move the light from one side of the street to the other. Over all, this first solution could take upwards to 600,000 dollars to complete. The second solution to the intersection is based on the idea that the two traffic lights over the intersection could be taken down and in replacement there would be a sign placed in the spot instead. This would provide an easy understanding of the intersection and also the drivers would not be confused on which sign was meant for them. This change would save the city around 16,000 dollars a year based off of calculations from WSDOT in the amount of money it takes to maintain traffic lights a year. Again there would have to be a little construction, however, the cost to make this solution a reality would be much more cost efficient for the tax payers dollars. Finally, the third option is to completely redesign the intersection as a roundabout. The average cost to put an intersection in is just underneath 450,000 dollars (FHWA, 2015). That number however does not even begin to cover the operating expenses of the intersection. WSDOT amounts the cost of maintenance and electricity per year to be about 8,000 ... Themes in Blue Velvet Exploring the Dark Side: Contrasting Themes in Blue Velvet The subconscious psyche is one of the most fascinating and almost completely inexplicable aspects of human behavior. Even more intriguing than merely the subconscious is the notion of a darker, more repressed side that many individuals refuse to acknowledge exists within them. In David Lynch s film Blue Velvet, the director attempts to explore the psyche of a young man named Jeffrey Beaumont, most notably the clash between his darker side and good side for the first time in his life. Using themes that sharply contrast one another, Lynch provides insight into the character of Jeffrey and the struggle that he is faced with. Jeffrey is in a transitional period of his life, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lynch chooses to use such stark contrast in an effort to establish not only the differences in one s perception, but of the psyche as well. The opening sequence is used by Lynch as a metaphor for Jeffrey s state of mind throughout the entire film, as Jeffrey realizes he has a dark side yet is trying (most of the time) to suppress it. The town of Lumberton, like Jeffrey, is an idealized version of what America and Americans should be like and yet, much like Jeffrey s mind, it is full of dark secrets and contradictions. One aspect of Jeffrey s psyche being explored is the notion of his battle between innocent love for a young girl and the animalistic lust he possesses for an older, more mature woman. The good or innocent side of Jeffrey is personified in the character of Sandy. Sandy is often depicted wearing light colors, with blue eyes and perfectly brushed blonde hair. When Sandy is first introduced into the film, she enters through utter darkness, stepping out of the shadows and into the light in a medium shot. Lynch follows this up with a long reverse tracking two shot in which Jeffrey and Sandy make small talk and innocently flirt with one another. Dorothy s introduction into the film, however, is quite different. The film first truly introduces the audience and Jeffrey to Dorothy with a subjective shot from her closet. • 42. Cerebral Phalsy Argumentative Essay Despite the growing amount of resources available for those with cerebral palsy, many parents and clinicians are looking for alternative treatments. One such treatment is known as conductive education (CE). The basic idea is that people with motor disorders (e.g. cerebral palsy) may have special learning disabilities on top of their motor impairments (Darrah et al., 2003). While initial results seemed promising, two reviews showed that many of the studies produced conflicting results, and that more robust studies were needed in order to come to a conclusion about CE (Forssberg et al., 2000; Darrah et al., 2003). Yet another alternative treatment is goal directed training. Goal directed training is a method where specific goals and interventions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most exciting treatments being discussed and researched currently is neurotoxic protein Botulinum toxin type A (BoTN A). By injecting BoNT A into spastic muscles, one can potentially reduce the spasticity present from 3 6 months (Simpson et al., 2008; Scholtes et al., 2006; Dai et al., 2008; Yang et al., 2008). It does this by weakening the muscle that it is injected into, effectively relaxing the stiff muscles in cerebral palsy (Bihari, 2005). Additionally, BoNT A injections can increase the motor functionality of a patient and reduce or prevent deformity (Apkon Cassidy, 2010). The effects are reversible, so after this time period has passed, BoNT A must be reinjected into the muscle. The main focus of the injections are for spastic or dystonic muscles. Some, though, have shown that whilst BoNT A injections are helpful in the upper and lower extremities, there is conflicting evidence regarding motor function (Delgado et al., 2010). BoNT A injections may even be combined with any number of physiotherapies, occupational therapies, orthotics or casting as described above to increase its effectiveness (Novak et al., 2013). With these other measures, walking performance and hand functionality improved (Novak et ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While there are a number of other rare violins and instruments of different kinds, not even one has ever came remarkably close to achieving what Antonio Stradivari has with the making of his stringed instruments, in particular, his violins. Over the years there have been many attempts to reproduce the authentic sound quality of his instruments, but no one has ever been able to achieve this goal. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stradivari was actually well in touch with the results of other impressive instruments that had been constructed before his. He was able to gain experience by comparing the many instruments built by the early Brescian and Cremonese makers by deducing from them the aspects that made them unfavorable and applying these aspects to his own creative works. Every generation has contributed something to the construction of musical instruments, and Stradivari combined these centuries of contributions to create something astounding that opened up a new chapter in history. While it is a known fact that Stradivari got a lot of inspiration from previous violinmakers (Visconti, who is a well known violinist, is said to have given advice to this master of violin construction), people insist that he was a natural born genius, so much so that he has been claimed to be a superhuman . Based on scientific principles, many different works have been written based on the unsurpassed tonal qualities found in his instruments. However, there has also been a daily study of Stradivari s works that were compared to those of the craftsmen who came before him. When put to the test it was found that the density of the bellies and backs of Stradivari s instruments were made based on the principles of Gasparo, in addition to the result of a gradual progression, which Maggini and Amatis had in common with him. Those who have examined his work have noted that Stradivari adjusted the thickness of his instruments, but there is no indication that he used any principles as a guide other than what has been derived from the practices of his forerunners. Stradivari left the backs and bellies of his instruments a little thinner (or stouter), with their backs displaying a larger variation than their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Risatti (2008:116) states that although craft and design are closely related, there is a distinction between them. Crafts have been developed within cultures, but have been modified by design and both involve a different way of thinking. So are they one and the same or different? In this essay I m going to go through 6 different examples; tradition, innovation, method, materials, uniqueness and lifestyle, where design has taken the simple craft and changed it to something new, proving my point that craft and design are in fact more different than the same. Tradition There is a noticeable difference in how craft and design play a role in tradition. Craft is a way the people of a culture expressed there believes, whereas design has challenged it.
