Survival In The Novel Hatchet By Gary Paulsen
Survival. That was Brian s only mindset in Gary Paulsen s novel, Hatchet. Brian is a thirteen year old
city boy who goes to visit his father in the Canadian wilderness for the summer. Midway through the
flight, the pilot began jerking uncontrollably and by the time he stopped, he was lying dead. Brian,
after the mysterious death of the pilot, is forced to pilot a plane alone. He manages to crash land in the
Canadian forest, but now he has another problem. Survival. Brian now has to learn how to live again.
Gary Paulsen wrote this adventurous, action packed book based off of many of his own real life
experiences. Most of the situations Brian goes through, Paulsen went through himself. This allows
Paulsen to write with astonishing

The One Minute Manager By Kenneth Blanchard And Spencer...
In the book The One Minute Manager, Kenneth Blanchard and Spencer Johnson introduce the readers
an innovative idea of one minute management through an allegory of an anonymous man in search for
an effective manager for his management secrets (Blanchard Johnson 26). Throughout the anonymous
man s journey, he learns many lessons, which Blanchard and Johnson have summarized into the
following three essential secrets . First, Blanchard and Johnson advocate One Minute Goal Setting is
the first [secret] and the foundation for One Minute Management (27). One Minute Goal Setting is
simply:
1. Agree on your goals.
2. See what good behavior looks like.
3. Write out each of your goals on a single sheet of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What s more, the authors use a problem that an employee of the company Trenell has, as an example,
to illustrate how such goal setting method works in practice. After Trenell clearly identifies the
discrepancy between the actual and desired state and the causes, he is able to find a suitable solution to
the problem, making him arriving at his desired state. After introducing the One Minute Goal Setting
as the fundamental of effective management, the authors also demonstrate the way of doing One
Minute Praising the second secret. One Minute Praising is simply:
1. Tell people up front that you are going to let them know how they are doing.
2. Praise people immediately.
3. Tell people what they did right be specific.
4. Tell people how good you feel about what they did right, and how it helps the organization and the
other people who work there.
5. Stop for a moment of silence to let them feel how good you feel.
6. Encourage them to do more of the same.
7. Shake hands or touch people in a way that makes it clear that you support their success in the
organization (44) While presenting the elements in the On Minute Praising, the authors also use a
practical detailed example to emphasize its benefit and importance on encouraging hard work and
good performance. Blanchard and Johnson believe that

A Look At Parkinson s Disease
A look at Parkinson s disease Parkinson s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative
disease. Two other names for PD are shaking palsy and Paralysis agitans. Parkinson s disease is
initiated when the cells in the brain that produce dopamine die over time. Dopamine is a brain
chemical used by nerve cells that helps to control the body s muscle movement. Without those brain
cells and the dopamine they produce, it becomes increasingly more difficult for the cells that control
movement to send messages to the muscles; affecting the body s movement. As time goes on the
damage worsens. There is not a known cause as to why these brain cells die, although there are a few
theories ( MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research is still being done over this debate. It is thought that environmental factors by themselves are
not a cause of PD, but the environmental factors may trigger the disease in people who are genetically
susceptible. In a lot of cases it has been noted that many people who contact PD have lived in rural
areas, specifically those who drink private well water, and (or) are agricultural workers (Larkin). In
addition, Parkinson s disease is sometimes seen as a mutation in the PARK2 gene. The PARK2 gene
belongs to a gene family called PARK (as in Parkinson s disease). By grouping the genes susceptible
to mutations that cause PD it becomes easier for researchers to see similarities among genes. Gene
families can also provide researchers with clues for identifying genes and gene patterns that are
involved in particular diseases. It is estimated that researchers have identified nearly 200 PARK gene
mutations that have the potential to become Parkinson s disease. PARK2 gene mutations are usually
associated with Juvenile PD and Young onset Parkinson s disease (YOPD). There are fewer cases of
PARK2 gene mutations in patients who develop the disease after the age of 50 ( PARK2 Parkinson
Disease (autosomal Recessive, Juvenile) 2, Parkin Genetics Home Reference ). The National
Parkinson foundation reports that the average age of PD diagnosis is 62.

Department Of Correction Essay
The department of corrections has implemented various programs in order to further help offenders to
become self sufficient. Such programs include mental health, substance abuse, sex offender programs,
and probation and parole just to name a few. While each program serves an important purpose I take
interest in one particular program which is education that has been implemented around the country.
Every year, thousands of adults that were incarcerated leave the nation s jails and prisons only to
return to their families, regular lives and community in which they came from.
Though many may live successful lives after reintegrating back into the community many others find
themselves back into prisons and increase the rates of recidivism. ... Show more content on

Schools like Goucher College here in Maryland or Adams University have partnerships with prisons
and allow inmates to register for programs to obtain a degree, or certification. Before I speak on the
benefits of educational programs let me first define it. Education is one to obtain knowledge through
learning. Since I can relate to this topic on a personal level, I found that education in the prison system
comes in various forms, such as academic, vocational, drug alcohol treatment, self help/support
groups, mental/sexual/physical health classes, college courses, and employment training.
The Department of Corrections did a study from 1991 2002 that states and average of more than 50%
of all inmates who are in the prison system did not have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Also about
75% of inmates had no vocational or collegiate education. Another important statistic is that the
recidivism rate of inmates without their G.E.D. or diploma was at an alarming 65% 75%. These now
these statistics are not stating that if someone is uneducated or under skilled there are more prone to
return to prison, but it does imply some sort of correlation between education and

Bravery In The Vietnam War
Whether on scales large and small, bravery is presented everyday. The disregard of fear has repeated
and will repeat many times in history. An example of this is the Tank Man. This man risked his
welfare to stop a convoy of tanks by merely standing in their way. In the days prior, innocent men and
women were slain in cold blood by the state. The morale of the protesters had fallen vastly due to the
threat of death. As all faith was declining, this man singlehandedly stopped a tank convoy. With this
he resented the heart and spirit of the protesters. Even after 100s slain and 1000s wounded, they
continued to detest the states constant push for taking control. With no hope, one man stood up to just
say he is tired or this abuse. This bravery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When the world saw the photo of tank boy China s government changed to improve its cities and
marital law was never put back in place. While south and north Vietnam became one and the
oppressive policies. Shortly after what they protested was taken down. Also, they put their lives at
steak. Tank man could have easily been shot or ran over. They have also speculated he was silenced by
the security bureau. Thich Quang Duc could have been silenced by the government(because he was
wearing monk garments in public) and did sacrifice his life for his cause. Lastly when anyone
researches the wars these photos were from these are usually the first seen. These photos are believed
to show the struggle and pain of the civilians who experienced the war. The only difference is that
Thich Quang Duc s was verified. These acts of bravery match up nearly

My life was flushed down the toilet I didn t want to move to California I was fine with staying in
Austin, Texas but we had to move because of my parents job. I lived in a grey house in the middle of
nowhere our backyard was in the forest, we haven t explored it yet. I lived with my mom,my Dad,my
sister Julia, and my brother James. Julia and I were 12 and James was 6. Lucky for us me and Julia
weren t separated from James yet I mean it was in the middle of the summer. One warm sunny
morning my mom woke me up. She said to me Bethany take care of James and Julia and don t go

Bethany primed her finger on a needle and let it drip in the bowl and pulled a strained of brown hair

The Real Unemployment Rate
The Real Unemployment Rate
Jessi Stevenson
July 14th, 2015
Macroeconomics
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University
The unemployment rate in the United States of America is a topic that is often scrutinized and
discussed among economists, politicians and fellow citizens. Frequently newscasters are advertising
monthly unemployment rate, and I ask myself this question: Is the rate being published by the Bureau
of Labor Statistics (BLS) actually the true figure, or is the real number being misrepresented? In effort
to answer this question, one has to understand the breakdown of the U.S. population as it relates to the
actual labor force. One also has to comprehend who the government considers to be unemployed. I
will be analyzing the current statistical numbers provided by the BLS, as well providing a detailed
analysis of the government s perspective as to what is deemed to be employed and unemployed. As
mentioned in our text, Economics (Arnold, 2011), the total U.S. population is broken up into two
separate groups. They are as follows: 16 years and under, the armed forces, and the institutionalized
(these 3 sections make up the first group). The second group consists of all others in the total
population labeled the civilian non institutional population. The civilian non institutional population is
made up of two groups those in the labor force, and those not in the labor force. Those who are
considered to be in the labor force are either employed or

Here are some of the benefits provided by SCM: * Purchasing SCM offers an advantage of making it
easier for companies to manage all aspects of purchasing and production. Companies using this
system develop a set of metrics to monitor the supply of goods. This metric system promotes
purchasing raw products both in an efficient manner and in a way that customers receive high quality
in goods produced. * Collaboration SCM develops a chain of businesses to work with. This group of
interconnected businesses works together for one main goal: to provide customers with the goods and
services they demand. SCM systems choose suppliers for raw products as well as distributors. The
company uses different suppliers and distributors based on customer demand. * Lower Costs These
systems use many suppliers and distributors, allowing a company to choose the most cost effective
ones. An SCM system helps companies plan how much raw material is needed to meet customer
demand. This allows companies to have a lower amount of inventory on hand at all times. Purchasing
agents can then identify ways to save money when purchasing raw products. * Cycle Time A cycle
refers to the amount of time it takes a business to complete an entire process. When the methods of
SCM are used, the most efficient means of operations are discovered. This helps improve the time it
takes to complete a cycle. In short, successfully

Stick With A Strategic Plan
In today s society, it is very easy to get distracted and become lost. From an early age we are taught
how to manage our time, how to set up goals, and how to make plans to achieve those goals to avoid
becoming lost or distracted. But the trick can be sticking to our goals, as with most people their goals
and priorities change, or they accomplish their goals through hard work and dedication. A business,
however should stick with its strategic plans, as coming up with one plan but going in a direction
separate from the plan can cause trouble and quite possibility force the business to shut down. If an
individual or business accomplishes their goals what then? Well we come up with a new goal, and
start the process again. I will be focusing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Operational plans are created by the frontline or lower level managers who are on the floor with the
employees. They are aimed at the lowest levels of the business, and ...are focused on the specific
procedures and processes that occur (Hartzell, n.d.). Frontline managers determine how the tactical
plans will be reached with operational plans. Operational plans become more specific by focusing on
how many employees are scheduled to work, how many shifts will be needed, and how much of the
annual budget is spread across the different departments of the company. With the operational plans in
place the business can move forward with achieving its goals as set by the tactical and strategic plans
(Solomon et al., 2012). Without formal planning, a company might misunderstand its purpose, the
focus of the business will be unclear to managers, and resources will wasted. ...the sum total of the
organization s effort might yield suboptimal results or outcomes or yield optimal results that do not
directly or indirectly contribute to the organization s purpose for existence (Simerson, pg. 2). With this
mind, it becomes clear why it is so important for businesses to come up with the right strategic plans,
which lead to creating the right tactical plans, which lead to creating the right operational plans, so
that the goals that have been set by the strategic plans can be

Airway Pressure Release Ventilation ( Aprv )
WHAT IS APRV? Airway pressure release ventilation (APRV) is a fairly new mode of ventilation, just
becoming available in the U.S. in the mid 1990 s. APRV is inverse ratio, pressure controlled,
intermittent mandatory ventilation with unrestricted spontaneous breathing and it is based on the
principle of open lung approach . (Daoud, Farag, Chatburn, 2012) The open lung approach is concept
of maximizing and maintaining alveolar recruitment throughout the ventilatory cycle by potentially
ventilating the lung on the steep portion of the pressure volume curve, thus avoiding over distention
on inspiration and alveolar collapse on exhalation . (2012) APRV was first used and described in 1987
as CPAP with an intermittent pressure release phase. Continuous airway pressure is applied to
maintain adequate lung volume and improve alveolar recruitment. It is a pressure limited, time cycled,
volume variable mode of ventilation. (2012) This time cycled release phase allow for CO2 removal
and keep the alveoli inflated at the inspiratory pressure for most of the respiratory cycle , allowing for
a higher mean airway pressure at lower peak airway pressures. APRV produces similar or improved
oxygenation with lower peak airway pressures with no significant hemodynamic effects compared
with alternative modes of ventilation in neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations. (Kenny, et al.,
2011) The Respiratory Care Journal (2012) stated that the primary goals of this mode were to

Current Rate Of Technological Advancement And The Growth...
Businesses continually adapt to a changing environment to maintain their market position
(Appelbaum, Habashy, Malo, Shafiq, 2012; Biedenbacha Soumlderholma, 2008). Change is inevitable
considering the current rate of technological advancement and the growth in global competition
(Appelbaum et al., 2012; Armenakis Harris, 2009; By, 2007). Increasing competition and the need for
strategic flexibility and globalization is affecting almost every organization today, regardless of size,
market, focus, and so on (Jaros, 2010).

The procurement process may lead to determining the amount of change management leadership. The
Fox project may require testing various candidate solutions and determining a best in breed solution.
Communication
The organization affected by the change is the target of effective change communication. Many
organizations establish a communication plan to alert the internal staff and external stakeholders of a
pending change to operations. Fox begins a technology change at the senior executive level with the
development of the business strategy and the funding future actions. As the project commences, a
development team containing members of engineering, operations, and production meeting to develop
the project specification and assure the technology meets the requirements. The production and
operations organization communicate with their staff to ensure the conceptual change will meet each
organization s goals. Eventually, operations and production agents of change are enlisted to begin
selling the pending change to the members of the staff by developing operating procedures.
Eventually, the implementation of the technology is complete, and the training and testing by
operations are determined. The communication of the pending implementation begins, and the change
begins.

Spanish As A Spanish Language
Spanish is one of the most common languages in the world. Many people can read and write in
Spanish, but some people aren t able to speak in Spanish such as me. Even though I struggled with
Spanish, I overcame it by practicing every day and getting help to speak it correctly. Back in high
school, I did well in all my classes including Spanish. I understand the meaning and grammar of some
Spanish words, but I struggled to speak it. My teacher wanted us to present in Spanish. I heard that I
was worried because I m not the best at presenting and especially speaking in Spanish (of course). In a
matter of seconds, I decided that I need to practice if I want to get a good grade and boost up my
G.P.A.
On the next day, I downloaded an app called Duolingo that helps you learn and speak a new language.
To me, it s helpful because I can practice ten to 20 minutes per day and go over some materials. On
google reviews, most people loved Duolingo s lessons being so shorter, quicker, and easier than
Rosetta Stone. It can let me go back to lessons for a recap what I did. Better yet it uses audio to let me
hear how it sounds and speaking slowly to pronounce. Over a week, I had improved my speaking
skills from speechless to mumbling quietly. This app is great in learning a new language, but not at
speaking to people (which is my problem).
When I came back to school, I decided to ask one of my friends Kenzie to help me gain confidence for
my presentation. By the way, she is better than me

You can tell by his actions that all he wants is the fame and the money. He never really thinks about
anybody besides himself. A prime example of this is when he is going to Los Angeles International

The Beautiful University City of Cambridge
The beautiful city of Cambridge has an enviable reputation as one of the world s greatest universities
as well as being an agreeable place to live and work. The inhabitants enjoy low unemployment, a
cluster of good schools and plenty of green spacious parkland. The river Cam provides a focal point in
the summer with its flotilla of punts gliding around gentle bends overhung with lush willows.
Two vibrant communities
Cambridge is a city of two vibrant communities, that despite a chequered past of friction and
confrontation now seem to co exist with ease. Both the students and locals go about their business,
almost independent of each other. Many scholars are completely unaware of the delights the city has
to offer away from the seclusion of their learned places and locals would be hard pressed to tell you
where any university building was apart from King s College Chapel and maybe the University
Library, with its huge soaring tower. Most central colleges face inward to courtyards hidden behind
castle like buildings, giving no clue to the enclosed delights (that can include a lake with huge fish).
Secret and enchanting places only accessed by gatehouses guarded by porters keepers of the portcullis.
Within the city boundaries are a dense collection of architectural styles ranging from medieval,
Jacobean, classical and Victorian. This city is an architectural historians paradise where examples of
one style evolving into another are abundant.

Interview with Network Administrator
I am planning to become a network and computer systems administrator. One of the reasons that I
selected this career path is that I stand working in this field and feel that I have strong skills and
background information. I started in the Information Technology field in 2008 as a System Support
Specialist for a University in Pakistan. I have always liked Computers and networking and how it
works and, when I caught the opportunity to apply for a job in this field I applied for it. My Diploma
in Information Technology from Pakistan facilitated myself to understand the basics of computers and
Networking. I expanded my technical and troubleshooting skills and obtained a job as a Help desk
specialist in the United States and I want to become a Network Administrator in the future.
The purpose of my interview is to study the impact of a Network administrator in the IT industry, and
to do this I set up an interview with one of my colleague Michael Pham, Network and Systems
administrator. He is 32 years of age and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He has diminutive eyes and muscular
body; he likes sports and does not want to gain weight. He appears extremely talkative if you glimpse
at his face, but he is not. You would like to talk to him as he is incredibly kind with his soft voice. He
is undoubtedly a suitable go to person if you have a problem in Networking and you are unable to
solve it yourself.

In the beginning was the big bang, [i] writes John Polkinghorne, a physicist turned theologian. As the
reader follows through the remainder of his cosmic creation story, the reader is intrigued at how
mystical and religious the story sounds. The space boiled, in the rapid expansion of the inflation era,
blowing the universe apart with incredible rapidity in the much less than 10 30 seconds that it lasted. .
. . The world suddenly became transparent and a universal sea of radiation was left to continue cooling
on its own . . . [ii] Then, the story unfolds to tell of the creation of hydrogen and helium and the
creation of stars. The death of stars follow, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has scaled the mountains of ignorance, he is about to conquer the highest peak: as he pulls himself
over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.
[v] Though Jastrow treats the issue as settled and declares that scientists have finally been defeated, it
is too early to reach any judgements on the implications the new cosmology has for both science and
religion. Our image of the origin of the universe is not yet complete and further investigations must be
conducted before the towel is thrown in. Science has still much to offer to help us understand how the
universe came to be. Therefore, let us now attempt to solve the cosmic mystery of creation by
referring to the great scientific minds as our guide. Let us now rewind the story of the big bang and
look into the origins of the universe.
The idea that the universe had an origin was a result of the discovery of the expansionary universe.[vi]
The theoretical groundwork for the expansionary universe theory was conceived, ironically, by Albert
Einstein (a firm believer in the infinite and unchanging universe) in his work concerning relativity.
[vii] The expansionary universe theory was later confirmed by Edwin Hubble in the 1920 s when he

Essay About Lombok
INTRODUCTION
Lombok and the Balinese are similar in many ways such as their religion, their neighboring islands,
agriculture, and many more; additionally, their histories are already connected before the 14th century.
Both their agriculture is also kind of the same, and the same goes with their unique cultural traditions.
In this term paper, the main topic is about Why Lombok is much better than Bali. So many people in
Indonesia and tourists from other country keep asking, so here is some information about that
question. Because of the tragedy in Bali, two hundred two people died including people from
Indonesia and more than 20 other nationalities. After that tragedy, the number of tourists that visit Bali

The Dutch could not gain to control over south Bali for some years, but later salvaging disputes gave

Essay about D. H. Lawrence (Snake, Tortoise Shout,...
D. H. LAWRENCE (1885 1930)
Hardy and Yeats belong to the upper classes; however, D. H. Lawrence is a working class poet and
novelist. Both Hardy and D.H. Lawrence write outstanding novels and they are famous in both of the
literary forms. Hardy depicts nature in terms of pessimism like William Butler Yeats and D.H.
Lawrence portrays pessimism through the sexuality that stands for the blood for himself. In Freudian
psychology, the snake symbolizes the male sexual power. However, in D.H. Lawrence s poem entitled
Snake , the animal stands for the innate glory of wild beings and the vulgarity as a whole and the
pettiness of the human beings is narrated. Secondly the snake in the poem stands for traditional values
and it also symbolizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sixth Section:
In this section, the image of the snake as the God is portrayed. D. H. Lawrence says that it is unseeing
because God cannot be seen as creator in anyway. So, at one stage, the position of animal is God like.
The poet points out that the animal lifted his head and flickered his tongue like a stormy night as the
simile in the poem indicates and finally disappeared for a while under the earth near the wall garden of
D. H. Lawrence.
Seventh Section:
In this section, the snake symbolizes the horror belonging to him, because he thinks that his life is not
guaranteed outside but inside the hole he is on the safe side. Apart from this, he protests against
human beings who harm him. In this section, he feels more confident in the hole rather than near the
trough.
Eighth Section:
In this section, the animal is seen in two living parts in order to reproduce from the old body. From the
point of view of the poet, this is a miracle because even male snakes can copy themselves. The first
section of the animal was straight but the second section was convulsed. It could not come into
existence and it faded away, but because the animal was divided into two and the first section was
alive, at this stage, the animal symbolizing fascination for the poet. But life is

The Importance Of Religions In Advertising
In today s culture, everyone can see advertisements anywhere promoting products, people, or ideas.
Advertisements are found on billboards, radio, television, newspapers, logos on the sides of drinks,
and even in restrooms. Ads are used to make people think that this is a must, to make them think that
they need this or that they have to start doing this and that they should to be like this person or follow
them. In America, we have freedom of religion, meaning that anyone can be of any religion or not
follow any religion at all if they chose without being harassed or persecuted for their beliefs. God and
various religions should not be used in promoting products, people and/or ideas.
Companies use advertisements to promote their products with the basic principle that their product is
the best in the market. God and various religions should not be used in advertising products because it
is ethically wrong. If a company used God or a certain religion to promote their products they are
basically saying that they know the direct word of God. They are also saying that the beliefs of one
religious group s teachings and including the thoughts of the members of the religion are all in
agreement of that specific product, that it is the best. This approach is not only wrong in the ethical
sense but also it could deeply offend many different cultures and religious groups. It is also not a good
financial decision for the company to make. If one company promoted one of their products with

A result on the next page shows that at sales price of $21.50, the sales quantity rises to 1,140,085 units
and net profit turns to positive for the first time. Besides, if a company continues to reduce the price
further, at the point of $15.50, it is where the company s profit on product 101 is in the highest
position as it gives the net profit of $3,901,908.
However, there are several factors for the company to choose its pricing strategy. In this case, it may
be better if the company choose to sell its product at $21.50 instead of $15.50. This is due to the fact
that price cutting appears to be not a good strategy in this industry. If every player in the same industry
starts to lower the price of their products, every company will end up having the low price, which in
turns lead to a low profit margin. Moreover, referring to the calculation in a below table, it also
implies that if the price is lower than $12, sales will not be able to cover the variable cost incurred,
thus it will bring about a loss in net profit.

Credit Rating Agencies Essay
1.1 History of Credit Rating Agencies
Credit rating agencies (CRAs) have been playing a significant role in financial markets around the
world since the beginning of the twentieth century. The industry of credit rating originated when John
Moody, a Wall Street analyst and the institutor of one of the biggest CRAs in present day, introduced a
system of credit rating for railroad bonds by publishing Moody s Manual of Industrial and
Miscellaneous Securities in 1909. Until today, there are now approximately 150 CRAs operating
around the world.
Despite the fact that CRAs are now a crucial element in financial markets, it has not always been the
case. There was an explanation that financial markets were well operated prior to the existence of the
CRAs in the United States. Since the early of the seventeenth century, the Dutch Republic already had
in place all fundamental components of a modern financial system including securities markets, a
banking system, a central bank, a stable money and a strong public credit. Influenced by the Dutch
Republic, England also managed to have all such elements in the late seventeenth century and
subsequently, the United States had all components in the last decade of the eighteenth century. It can
be seen at that time that financial markets were already functioned properly without the existence of
CRAs because investors had confidence in the governments that issued public bonds. Most
investments in Europe during the nineteenth century

Sulfide Mining Pros And Cons
Imagine drifting slowly on a canoe while fishing one of Minnesota s crystal clear waters on a
beautiful, sunny day. Now imagine being interrupted by the loud, ongoing sounds of drilling and being
told the fish were too dangerous to eat. This is only one of many potential harms of sulfide mining.
PolyMet, a new mining company would like to bring sulfide mining, also known as copper nickel
mining to Minnesota. This would involve the extraction of copper and various other metals from
sulfide, hence the name. The sulfide that comes out of this type of mining can have serious
consequences on the environment. Events that occurred in the past and facts mentioned in the books

For instance, transporting the materials from the mines from place to place can lead to the roads being
congested, putting a strain on the roads. Evidence of this is shown in Fractured Land when Lisa is
observing a high way. She writes of various trucks involved in the fracking industry creating traffic
and putting wear and tear on the roads of U.S. Highway two (55). Many of these mines are in more
rural areas where roads were not made with the intention of there being as much pressure on the roads
as the activity with the mines creates. This means the increased activity on the roads results in them
breaking down. The same goes for these trucks as it does for the movement of vehicles shipping in
materials from different nations for the fracturing to take place. More congested roads also means
greater odds for accidents. This is evident when Westburg, the Fractured Land author writes of an
accident that occurred along U.S. Highway 2. Multiple trucks collided until one of them crashed into a
tanker trailer with crude oil. This vehicle exploded and burned for many hours, resulting in the closing
down of the entire highway (Westburg 141). Because the majority of these mines are built in areas
where the roads are not made to suit traffic, the roads are too narrow. This ultimately leads to a rise in
tragic accidents. Also, along with more goods being mined comes more products to be shipped over
seas. This would inevitably lead to more pollution. For instance, In 2013, transportation contributed
more than half of the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons
emitted into our air (Union). This is tainting both the environment and human health, as the only
atmosphere the world relies on is being tainted by globalization. The trucks and planes involved in
shipping the metals from place to place would mean more fossil fuel

The American Dream In I Hear America Singing By Walt Whitman
During this era the American dream was the notion that a man could create a successful life for
himself and his family. As discussed earlier, America effectively isolated women and African
Americans, therefore they had no way to make a living to support themselves. A prime example of this
would be in the poem I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman. Whitman describes the sound of
America as one of hard work produced by workers. He writes, the carpenter singing his as he
measures his plank or beam (Whitman 3). It illustrates the hard work that Americans put into their
careers, and their willingness to support the nation s economy. No African Americans appear in the
poem, and Whitman describes women working in the house. Once again, the exclusivity of the nation
only allows white males to have a chance of achieving a pleasant, stable life. At this time, a majority
of African Americans remained enslaved across the Nation, which prohibited them from being able to
build any sort of life for themselves. Therefore the American Dream is not even an option for almost a
quarter of the population. How could someone prohibited from leaving a plantation be able to support
themselves and live an acceptable life? For almost all African Americans the idea was unthinkable
until the later half of the 1860 s when the government abolished slavery. When it comes to women,
however, one could say that living the American dream was possible. Women in America worked in

Analysis Of A House Of My Own
Sandra Cisneros composes an engaging memoir in A House of My Own that is imperative to the
coming of age of young adults today. Her memoir not only contains compilations of her childhood,
family, and writing, but also includes her unabashed journeys and internal battles faced in order to
proclaim an identity for herself as a strong, independent Chicana woman. The title of the novel alone
is an example of a peregrination Cisneros undergoes in order to discover what the meaning of a home
means exclusively to her soul searching adventure while also aiding her outlook on life itself.
When first reading her novel, the reader may believe Cisneros is pursuing a long term residency
merely for the sake of how she was raised as a child. Throughout her personal essays, Cisneros refers
back to her formative years when her family seemed to be continuously traveling all over the United
States. Cisneros conveys this by saying, When I was a girl [my family] traveled to Mexico City so
much I thought my grandparents house on La Fortuna, number 12, was home. It was the only constant
in our nomadic ramblings from one Chicago flat to another (Cisneros 78). These frequent relocations
causes her to lack crucial friendships for a child, leading to an unhealthy mentality of an introvert. As
a result, this takes a toll on Cisneros seeing as she never has the ability to properly build
communication skills and lacks a permanent residence that can last more than a certain period of time
until she has

Pros And Cons Of School Uniforms
Should students wear school uniforms? This is a topic that has been thoroughly argued, yet to no
prevail on either side. I believe school uniforms overall impact children and the education community
negatively. There are many strong reasons to turn down this policy. These include how the uniforms
effect the children and their learning, the sneakiness behind school administrations who utilize this
system, and how the children feel about the uniforms.
First, is how the uniforms affect the children in a negative way. I know a family just a few houses up
the street whose kids go to a Catholic school. Religion set aside, they have to wear uniforms to school.
Often I see them getting out of the car, ripping off their bows and ties with a sort of disgust. My friend
from that family, Aaron, states on the topic, They are uncomfortable, which actually distracts me more
from learning and paying attention. This shows how school uniforms affect the learning environment
negatively and impact children in a negative way. Everyone has heard the phrase, if you get hurt it s
your own fault. But what if you never get the chance to be hurt? You ll never learn. It s the same way
with something as simple as clothing. If children wear vulgar clothing to school then you can talk to
them and tell them it s wrong. It is bad preparation for the real world if we are telling children what to
do, rather than letting them learn to better prepare themselves for the real world.
Next, is the sneakiness behind the administration and their altered statistics. Long beach California is a
town that incorporates school uniforms into their schooling. The district claims the academic success
and low violence rates are due to the school uniforms. They did leave out the other improvements in
their districts including, promotion of conflict resolution, peer mediation, and parental involvement.
The superintendent of this district made a comment to the Harvard Education Letter stating, It is really
hard to know exactly what is causing the positive effect. This shows how districts are hiding other
information to promote how well uniforms fix problems when in reality, it could be many things. The

Space Race Evolution
Even though the Earth has been around for a few billion years, it has been only 200,000 years when
the first homo sapiens, modern human species, came to existence. To put it into perspective, if the arm
length represents the timeline, the shoulder is the Big Bang, the beginning of the finger nail is when
the dinosaurs existed, and the human start to become a possibility right around the tip of the finger.
Even more astounding, industrialization started only in the 1800s, which estimated 200 years to
develop to the current society. The remarkable number is evidence to human extraordinary intelligence
and limitless capabilities to transform ambition into reality; however, any development will reach to a
point where the growth is less significant than it is used to be. This is referred as the law of

Furthermore, the speed they were able to go through each step of the process of cleaning the bones
was unbelievable. Our text book, Forensic Anthropology, says it takes days even weeks to properly

Egypt Vs Persia Research Paper
,Long ago there were two great empires: Egypt, and Persia. Both had great power, but lead completely
different lifestyles. Egypt was a grand society run by a god like ruler called a pharaoh, and the other
was a large empire who s society flourished due to its large military. Many people may argue that
Persia s great military made them a better empire to live in, yet there are many facts in favor of Egypt,
such as their lifestyle, treatment of citizens, and values. While Persia may have been strong, the reason
that Egypt was a better society to live in is because Egypt had more respect for women, valued their

The Egyptians actually had so much resources that according to source 4, The channeling of so much
of the country s resources into building and equipping funerary monuments may seen unproductive by
modern standards, but pyramid seems to have been essential for the growth of pharaonic civilization.
The Egyptians had so many available resources that they were able to put a lot of it into building large
monuments yet still had the ability to supply the general population with the items they needed. The
Egyptians had plenty of resources, including silt from the annual flooding of the Nile, fish from the
river, wood for cooking, and some of the most important, bronze, silver, and gold. These resources
allowed for better trade as more advanced tools could be made and more people would be willing to
trade throughout Egypt. Persia, however, had very little to offer, their best resources being goats,

Research Report On Elon Musk Cofounded Tesla Motors Essay
Elon Musk cofounded Tesla Motors, an American automaker, in 2003 and was among the first
investors of the firm initially investing 7 million dollars and later adding another 30 million United
States dollars (Rothaermrl, Zimmer, 2014 p.2). Tesla Motors designs and markets electric cars in the
United States. The main competitors of Tesla motors in the United States market are local firms
General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford. Other foreign motor vehicle manufacturers that have entered and
established themselves in the United States and compete with the local firms include are Toyota,
Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, and KIA from various Asiatic countries; and major European manufacturers
including Daimler, BMW, and Volkswagen and its subsidiaries Audi, and Porsche (Rothaermrl,
Zimmer, 2014 p.4). These foreign automobile manufacturing companies have over the years eaten into
the market share of local firms, which as at the end of 2012 stood below 30 percent because of the
quality, and fuel efficiency of these cars and other features.
The automobile market in the United States is currently not very attractive. Firstly, the number of
competing firms in the industry has gone up to more than eleven firms competing in an industry that
has high revenues volatility. Changes in customer tastes and preferences, changes in regulations,
increasing input costs, and other factors contribute to the increases in costs while at the same time
portending a situation that leads to a decline in the

Controlling Organized Crime Paper
Organized crime is an issue that has existed for many years and continues to be on the rise especially
with the technology that we have today. Well known criminal organizations include; Italian Mafia,
Russian Mobsters, Nuestra Familia, Mexican Mafia, The Hell s Angels, The Bandidos, John Gotti, Al
Capone, and so much more. One of the most famous criminal organizations are the Gambino Family
in which John Gotti was said to be the Godfather of the family and was the most powerful criminal in
America. That being said, this is just one group can you imagine how many others who operate in our
neighborhoods and worldwide? These groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More and more, they are literally becoming partners in crime, realizing they have more to gain from
cooperating than competing.
Many problems are caused by organized crime every day. Criminal organizations are really
sophisticated and manipulative. They are constantly examined by law enforcement officials which
forces them to be furtive, secretive, and cautious. One major problem that we have is the victims that
are or have been a target for the organized crime activities. Crimes include; drug trafficking,
gambling, prostitution, and more. Crimes such as these involve individuals who are buyers and seller
who are labeled as a willing participant. Communities that are faced with this problem are labeled as
the victim because of how organized criminals make their money. The community takes a hit
especially when crimes involve, violence, swindling, or thievery. According to Lyman amp; Potter
(2007), Clearly, criminal associates are often victimized by organized crime members, but law abiding
citizens are also victimized in a number of ways. First, citizens are sometimes the direct victims of
organized crime enterprises (violence, extortion, intimidation, etc.). Second, billions of dollars of tax
revenue from organized crime go uncollected (estimated at $37 billion in lost taxes every year),
resulting in higher tax rates for law abiding citizens. Third, expenses related to law enforcement,
criminal prosecution, and imprisonment of

Analysis Of All The Missing Girls
Is it monsters from the dark, mysterious woods, jealous ex boyfriends, or ditching town? These are all
theories as to why two teenage girls from the, supposedly, postcard worthy town have disappeared in
the past ten years. In All the Missing Girls, Nic is back in her hometown, for a sojourn for the first
time since her friend, Corrine, disappeared ten years ago, and now Annaleise Carter is missing. The
memories of Corrine s case begin to resurface as alibis, motives, and connections between the cases
are questioned. In a small town like Cooley Ridge, rumors are the plague, spreading everywhere not
caring whose lives they ruin. (☺ Metaphor) I finished reading The Woman in Cabin 10, and the
resolution is that Richard commits suicide after killing his real wife, and his fake wife and Lo both
survive. The three most important searches in All the Missing Girls are the search for connections
between the two cases of the missing girls, the search for Corinne, and Tyler s search for love.
The search for connections between the cases leads to Tyler being questioned as a suspect, and Nic
going on a mission to solve the cases. Tyler is suspected because he is dating Annaleise. He claims
they broke up the night before she disappears, which heightens suspicions. He also ditches town after
Annaleise goes missing. Nic thinks, Tyler was starting to feel like a ghost, like if I blinked for too
long, he might slip away for good (Miranda 171). He is fleeing the investigation. By

Sistah Tongue Language Analysis
Way of Life Language is unique to the human race and it is vital to communication. Language varies
from land to land but the point is to get the message across and every language was made to do so,
even creole. Creole language is a language that is specific to a community or even state. Although,
nations argue that one language should be central to the whole world. That s a line that shouldn t be
crossed. In Lisa Kanae s novel, Sistah Tongue , it was very inspiring when she stated that Speakers of
Creole languages should never be perceived as mere casualties of insularity, ignorance, and social
isolation (Kanae ?). This is inspiring because I myself speak Hawaii Creole English (HCE) and it is
based on a foundation of many historical and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thing about discrimination is that it would take everyone s cooperation to make it disappear even
just for a second but even if that happened, who says that it wouldn t spawn up again from someone s
grudge from another. Discrimination from the use of a language is very common. In Sistah Tongue,
Kanae s little brother, Harold boy, was discriminated by his mother. The mother said that you not
going get one good job is you no talk good English (Kanae). Kanae thinks that the mother think
Harold Boy has one speech impediment which Kanae thinks that idea is mento , which is crazy. She
thinks that idea is crazy because Kanae believes that Harold boy is smart and he can communicate
with his family just fine. I can relate to this because I was told that speaking Pidgen in the classroom
or in the work place is improper and it is not professional . When I was a senior in high school, I was
in IB and advanced placement classes and I used to speak Pidgen in class. That was until the teacher
of my IB English class called me out and told me to not speak like that in class. When I did speak it,
everyone would give me a dirty look trying to say what are you doing? Also in my senior year I
worked at a frozen yogurt shop called Orange Grove. I always felt that I shouldn t talk to costumers in
Pidgen because I would feel that would be doing something wrong. But now I question that because
would I really be doing

In the book The One Minute Manager, Kenneth Blanchard and Spencer Johnson introduce the readers an innovative idea of one minute management through an allegory of an anonymous man in search for an effective manager for his management secrets (Blanchard Johnson 26). Throughout the anonymous man s journey, he learns many lessons, which Blanchard and Johnson have summarized into the following three essential secrets . First, Blanchard and Johnson advocate One Minute Goal Setting is the first [secret] and the foundation for One Minute Management (27). One Minute Goal Setting is simply: 1. Agree on your goals. 2. See what good behavior looks like. 3. Write out each of your goals on a single sheet of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Trenell clearly identifies the discrepancy between the actual and desired state and the causes, he is able to find a suitable solution to the problem, making him arriving at his desired state. After introducing the One Minute Goal Setting as the fundamental of effective management, the authors also demonstrate the way of doing One Minute Praising the second secret. One Minute Praising is simply: 1. Tell people up front that you are going to let them know how they are doing. 2. Praise people immediately. 3. Tell people what they did right be specific. 4. Tell people how good you feel about what they did right, and how it helps the organization and the other people who work there. 5. Stop for a moment of silence to let them feel how good you feel. 6. Encourage them to do more of the same. 7. Shake hands or touch people in a way that makes it clear that you support their success in the organization (44) While presenting the elements in the On Minute Praising, the authors also use a practical detailed example to emphasize its benefit and importance on encouraging hard work and good performance. • 4. A Look At Parkinson s Disease A look at Parkinson s disease Parkinson s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Two other names for PD are shaking palsy and Paralysis agitans. Parkinson s disease is initiated when the cells in the brain that produce dopamine die over time. Dopamine is a brain chemical used by nerve cells that helps to control the body s muscle movement. Without those brain cells and the dopamine they produce, it becomes increasingly more difficult for the cells that control movement to send messages to the muscles; affecting the body s movement. As time goes on the damage worsens. There is not a known cause as to why these brain cells die, although there are a few theories ( MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research is still being done over this debate. It is thought that environmental factors by themselves are not a cause of PD, but the environmental factors may trigger the disease in people who are genetically susceptible. In a lot of cases it has been noted that many people who contact PD have lived in rural areas, specifically those who drink private well water, and (or) are agricultural workers (Larkin). In addition, Parkinson s disease is sometimes seen as a mutation in the PARK2 gene. The PARK2 gene belongs to a gene family called PARK (as in Parkinson s disease). By grouping the genes susceptible to mutations that cause PD it becomes easier for researchers to see similarities among genes. Gene families can also provide researchers with clues for identifying genes and gene patterns that are involved in particular diseases. It is estimated that researchers have identified nearly 200 PARK gene mutations that have the potential to become Parkinson s disease. PARK2 gene mutations are usually associated with Juvenile PD and Young onset Parkinson s disease (YOPD). There are fewer cases of PARK2 gene mutations in patients who develop the disease after the age of 50 ( PARK2 Parkinson Disease (autosomal Recessive, Juvenile) 2, Parkin Genetics Home Reference ). The National Parkinson foundation reports that the average age of PD diagnosis is 62. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such programs include mental health, substance abuse, sex offender programs, and probation and parole just to name a few. While each program serves an important purpose I take interest in one particular program which is education that has been implemented around the country. Every year, thousands of adults that were incarcerated leave the nation s jails and prisons only to return to their families, regular lives and community in which they came from. Though many may live successful lives after reintegrating back into the community many others find themselves back into prisons and increase the rates of recidivism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schools like Goucher College here in Maryland or Adams University have partnerships with prisons and allow inmates to register for programs to obtain a degree, or certification. Before I speak on the benefits of educational programs let me first define it. Education is one to obtain knowledge through learning. Since I can relate to this topic on a personal level, I found that education in the prison system comes in various forms, such as academic, vocational, drug alcohol treatment, self help/support groups, mental/sexual/physical health classes, college courses, and employment training. The Department of Corrections did a study from 1991 2002 that states and average of more than 50% of all inmates who are in the prison system did not have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Also about 75% of inmates had no vocational or collegiate education. Another important statistic is that the recidivism rate of inmates without their G.E.D. or diploma was at an alarming 65% 75%. These now these statistics are not stating that if someone is uneducated or under skilled there are more prone to return to prison, but it does imply some sort of correlation between education and ... An example of this is the Tank Man. This man risked his welfare to stop a convoy of tanks by merely standing in their way. In the days prior, innocent men and women were slain in cold blood by the state. The morale of the protesters had fallen vastly due to the threat of death. As all faith was declining, this man singlehandedly stopped a tank convoy. With this he resented the heart and spirit of the protesters. The Real Unemployment Rate The Real Unemployment Rate Jessi Stevenson July 14th, 2015 Macroeconomics Embry Riddle Aeronautical University The unemployment rate in the United States of America is a topic that is often scrutinized and discussed among economists, politicians and fellow citizens. Frequently newscasters are advertising monthly unemployment rate, and I ask myself this question: Is the rate being published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) actually the true figure, or is the real number being misrepresented? In effort to answer this question, one has to understand the breakdown of the U.S. population as it relates to the actual labor force. One also has to comprehend who the government considers to be unemployed. I will be analyzing the current statistical numbers provided by the BLS, as well providing a detailed analysis of the government s perspective as to what is deemed to be employed and unemployed. As mentioned in our text, Economics (Arnold, 2011), the total U.S. population is broken up into two separate groups. They are as follows: 16 years and under, the armed forces, and the institutionalized (these 3 sections make up the first group). The second group consists of all others in the total population labeled the civilian non institutional population. The civilian non institutional population is made up of two groups those in the labor force, and those not in the labor force. Those who are considered to be in the labor force are either employed or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here are some of the benefits provided by SCM: * Purchasing SCM offers an advantage of making it easier for companies to manage all aspects of purchasing and production. Companies using this system develop a set of metrics to monitor the supply of goods. This metric system promotes purchasing raw products both in an efficient manner and in a way that customers receive high quality in goods produced. * Collaboration SCM develops a chain of businesses to work with. This group of interconnected businesses works together for one main goal: to provide customers with the goods and services they demand. SCM systems choose suppliers for raw products as well as distributors. The company uses different suppliers and distributors based on customer demand. * Lower Costs These systems use many suppliers and distributors, allowing a company to choose the most cost effective ones. An SCM system helps companies plan how much raw material is needed to meet customer demand. This allows companies to have a lower amount of inventory on hand at all times. Purchasing agents can then identify ways to save money when purchasing raw products. * Cycle Time A cycle refers to the amount of time it takes a business to complete an entire process. • 14. Airway Pressure Release Ventilation ( Aprv ) WHAT IS APRV? Airway pressure release ventilation (APRV) is a fairly new mode of ventilation, just becoming available in the U.S. in the mid 1990 s. APRV is inverse ratio, pressure controlled, intermittent mandatory ventilation with unrestricted spontaneous breathing and it is based on the principle of open lung approach . (Daoud, Farag, Chatburn, 2012) The open lung approach is concept of maximizing and maintaining alveolar recruitment throughout the ventilatory cycle by potentially ventilating the lung on the steep portion of the pressure volume curve, thus avoiding over distention on inspiration and alveolar collapse on exhalation . (2012) APRV was first used and described in 1987 as CPAP with an intermittent pressure release phase. Continuous airway pressure is applied to maintain adequate lung volume and improve alveolar recruitment. It is a pressure limited, time cycled, volume variable mode of ventilation. (2012) This time cycled release phase allow for CO2 removal and keep the alveoli inflated at the inspiratory pressure for most of the respiratory cycle , allowing for a higher mean airway pressure at lower peak airway pressures. APRV produces similar or improved oxygenation with lower peak airway pressures with no significant hemodynamic effects compared with alternative modes of ventilation in neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations. On google reviews, most people loved Duolingo s lessons being so shorter, quicker, and easier than Rosetta Stone. It can let me go back to lessons for a recap what I did. Credit Rating Agencies Essay 1.1 History of Credit Rating Agencies Credit rating agencies (CRAs) have been playing a significant role in financial markets around the world since the beginning of the twentieth century. The industry of credit rating originated when John Moody, a Wall Street analyst and the institutor of one of the biggest CRAs in present day, introduced a system of credit rating for railroad bonds by publishing Moody s Manual of Industrial and Miscellaneous Securities in 1909. Until today, there are now approximately 150 CRAs operating around the world. Despite the fact that CRAs are now a crucial element in financial markets, it has not always been the case. There was an explanation that financial markets were well operated prior to the existence of the CRAs in the United States. Since the early of the seventeenth century, the Dutch Republic already had in place all fundamental components of a modern financial system including securities markets, a banking system, a central bank, a stable money and a strong public credit. Influenced by the Dutch Republic, England also managed to have all such elements in the late seventeenth century and subsequently, the United States had all components in the last decade of the eighteenth century. It can be seen at that time that financial markets were already functioned properly without the existence of CRAs because investors had confidence in the governments that issued public bonds. Most investments in Europe during the nineteenth century ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Sulfide Mining Pros And Cons Imagine drifting slowly on a canoe while fishing one of Minnesota s crystal clear waters on a beautiful, sunny day. Now imagine being interrupted by the loud, ongoing sounds of drilling and being told the fish were too dangerous to eat. This is only one of many potential harms of sulfide mining. PolyMet, a new mining company would like to bring sulfide mining, also known as copper nickel mining to Minnesota. This would involve the extraction of copper and various other metals from sulfide, hence the name. The sulfide that comes out of this type of mining can have serious consequences on the environment. Events that occurred in the past and facts mentioned in the books titled Taconite Dreams by Jeffrey Manuel and Fractured Land by Lisa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, transporting the materials from the mines from place to place can lead to the roads being congested, putting a strain on the roads. Evidence of this is shown in Fractured Land when Lisa is observing a high way. She writes of various trucks involved in the fracking industry creating traffic and putting wear and tear on the roads of U.S. Highway two (55). Many of these mines are in more rural areas where roads were not made with the intention of there being as much pressure on the roads as the activity with the mines creates. This means the increased activity on the roads results in them breaking down. The same goes for these trucks as it does for the movement of vehicles shipping in materials from different nations for the fracturing to take place. More congested roads also means greater odds for accidents. This is evident when Westburg, the Fractured Land author writes of an accident that occurred along U.S. Highway 2. Multiple trucks collided until one of them crashed into a tanker trailer with crude oil. This vehicle exploded and burned for many hours, resulting in the closing down of the entire highway (Westburg 141). Because the majority of these mines are built in areas where the roads are not made to suit traffic, the roads are too narrow. This ultimately leads to a rise in tragic accidents. Also, along with more goods being mined comes more products to be shipped over seas. This would inevitably lead to more pollution. For instance, In 2013, transportation contributed more than half of the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons emitted into our air (Union). This is tainting both the environment and human health, as the only atmosphere the world relies on is being tainted by globalization. The trucks and planes involved in shipping the metals from place to place would mean more fossil fuel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The American Dream In I Hear America Singing By Walt Whitman During this era the American dream was the notion that a man could create a successful life for himself and his family. As discussed earlier, America effectively isolated women and African Americans, therefore they had no way to make a living to support themselves. A prime example of this would be in the poem I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman. Whitman describes the sound of America as one of hard work produced by workers. He writes, the carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam (Whitman 3). It illustrates the hard work that Americans put into their careers, and their willingness to support the nation s economy. No African Americans appear in the poem, and Whitman describes women working in the house. Once again, the exclusivity of the nation only allows white males to have a chance of achieving a pleasant, stable life. At this time, a majority of African Americans remained enslaved across the Nation, which prohibited them from being able to build any sort of life for themselves. Therefore the American Dream is not even an option for almost a quarter of the population. How could someone prohibited from leaving a plantation be able to support themselves and live an acceptable life? For almost all African Americans the idea was unthinkable until the later half of the 1860 s when the government abolished slavery. When it comes to women, however, one could say that living the American dream was possible. Women in America worked in the home cleaning, cooking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Analysis Of A House Of My Own Sandra Cisneros composes an engaging memoir in A House of My Own that is imperative to the coming of age of young adults today. Her memoir not only contains compilations of her childhood, family, and writing, but also includes her unabashed journeys and internal battles faced in order to proclaim an identity for herself as a strong, independent Chicana woman. The title of the novel alone is an example of a peregrination Cisneros undergoes in order to discover what the meaning of a home means exclusively to her soul searching adventure while also aiding her outlook on life itself. When first reading her novel, the reader may believe Cisneros is pursuing a long term residency merely for the sake of how she was raised as a child. Throughout her personal essays, Cisneros refers back to her formative years when her family seemed to be continuously traveling all over the United States. Cisneros conveys this by saying, When I was a girl [my family] traveled to Mexico City so much I thought my grandparents house on La Fortuna, number 12, was home. It was the only constant in our nomadic ramblings from one Chicago flat to another (Cisneros 78). These frequent relocations causes her to lack crucial friendships for a child, leading to an unhealthy mentality of an introvert. As a result, this takes a toll on Cisneros seeing as she never has the ability to properly build communication skills and lacks a permanent residence that can last more than a certain period of time until she has ... • 37. Pros And Cons Of School Uniforms Should students wear school uniforms? This is a topic that has been thoroughly argued, yet to no prevail on either side. I believe school uniforms overall impact children and the education community negatively. There are many strong reasons to turn down this policy. These include how the uniforms effect the children and their learning, the sneakiness behind school administrations who utilize this system, and how the children feel about the uniforms. First, is how the uniforms affect the children in a negative way. I know a family just a few houses up the street whose kids go to a Catholic school. Religion set aside, they have to wear uniforms to school. Often I see them getting out of the car, ripping off their bows and ties with a sort of disgust. My friend from that family, Aaron, states on the topic, They are uncomfortable, which actually distracts me more from learning and paying attention. This shows how school uniforms affect the learning environment negatively and impact children in a negative way. Everyone has heard the phrase, if you get hurt it s your own fault. But what if you never get the chance to be hurt? You ll never learn. It s the same way with something as simple as clothing. If children wear vulgar clothing to school then you can talk to them and tell them it s wrong. It is bad preparation for the real world if we are telling children what to do, rather than letting them learn to better prepare themselves for the real world. Next, is the sneakiness behind the administration and their altered statistics. Long beach California is a town that incorporates school uniforms into their schooling. The district claims the academic success and low violence rates are due to the school uniforms. They did leave out the other improvements in their districts including, promotion of conflict resolution, peer mediation, and parental involvement. The superintendent of this district made a comment to the Harvard Education Letter stating, It is really hard to know exactly what is causing the positive effect. This shows how districts are hiding other information to promote how well uniforms fix problems when in reality, it could be many things. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in Southern ...
