Use Of Force In Law Enforcement
The use of force is hard to distinguish in law enforcement. The use of force and the laws of it vary
from state to state. (National Institute of Justice, November 29, 2016) broadly defined the use of force
as, police officers use of force actions become necessary under certain circumstances, like self defense
or protecting another individual from harm. In law enforcement, they usually have steps officers have
to take before they can use the higher violent techniques. There are times where people do not agree
with the use of force in certain situations. And excessive force does happen at times, and most of the
time the police officer involved will get punished for his actions.
According to (National Institute of Justice, November 29,2016) Law enforcement officers should only
use the appropriate amount of force necessary to mitigate an incident. So, they can only assert the
appropriate amount of force to make an arrest, or to protect someone from harm. Which means the
level of force varies with every situation, at times it could be as simple as verbally communicating to
the criminal, or it could be as bad as pulling your weapon on the criminal. So, guidelines for use of
force is based on many factors. (National Institute of Justice, November 29, 2016) An officer s goal is
to regain control as soon as possible while protecting the community. Use of force is an officers last
option. (National Institute of Justice, November 29, 2016) When this happens injuries may occur, and
police have to ensure that the person injured get medical attention and the family of the injured person
be notified.
There are certain steps police officers have to take for use of force, they call it the use of force
continuum. Not every state has the same continuum but they are usually very similar. The officers are
supposed to respond to the level of force appropriate to the situation. The (National Institute of
Justice, August 4, 2009) gives us a good example of what the use of force continuum might look like.
The first step is officer presence, no force is used at this time because the presence of the officer is
enough to deescalate the situation. The next step is verbalization, this is when the officer gives the
suspect commands to

Improving An Employee s Stress Level Is Through Supervision
Alternatively, one of the most common methods used to manage an employee s stress level is through
supervision. As previously stated, social workers who work within the child welfare system can use
daily debriefing based on the critical incidents that occur with this population. For example, from
personal experience of being a supervisor over case managers working with children, supervision was
crucial not only for myself but for the caseworkers. The caseworkers were able to release their
emotions, concerns, and possible fears when dealing with their clients and their family. Huss (2012)
shows how employees use supervision to cope and discuss stressful situations, however, it is explained
how supervision is beginning to suddenly decrease. Huss (2012) describes how supervision is
beginning to decrease, which can be due to the possible lack of supervisory positions or funding. This
is an example of why the current practices, i.e. EPA, supervision, and OD, need to change within
organizations. Based on personal experience, in order to help manage an employees stress, an
organization needs to ensure that their staff has the tools needed to work efficiently and effectively.
Organizations must be aware of the stress that can be caused by the policies, regulations and
conflicting demands of the external and internal factors that influence an employee s work (Dextras
Gautier, Marchand, Haines, 2012). Furthermore, organizational SMIs encompass the leadership of
administration,

According to Inderjeet Dokal there are currently 13 known variations of genes that cause FA and they
are as follows: FANCA, FANCB, FANCC, FANCD1, FANCD2, FANCE, FANCF, FANCG, FANCI,
FANCJ, FANCL, FANCM, and FANCN (Dokal, 2008). Dokal and many other doctors agree that FA is
a very penetrant genetic disorder. That is, all of these subtypes of the FA gene can cause many of the
different types of cancer and bone marrow deficiencies that are associated with FA. For example, in
the list given by Dokal, the subtype FANCA is known to express as a gene that controls certain aspects
of protein coding. This one genetic subtype causes breakdowns in the various checkpoints throughout
the cell cycle. As you can imagine, this one gene can destroy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The expressivity and penetrance of FA are largely based on the number and type of subtypes present.
It was found that a large amount of the subtypes of FA actually interact with each other in one form or
another to cause reactions and abnormalities in many of the pathways that are critical to the replication
and regulation of DNA in each of the cells pathways. Interestingly enough, if just one of the subtypes
is not present, then the expression of the interference is not as extreme as it could be if all of the
subtypes needed for a category were present.
With that said, it s important to understand what happens during a normal cycle of DNA replication.
This will provide a greater understanding of the effects of FA on the DNA replication process. By
understanding the processes and events of replication you can see how those subtypes of FA like
FANCL can be so detrimental to the affected individuals cells. The process of replication in regards to
DNA is a complicated set of processes in which thousands of base pairs are accurately copied and
translated to produce new strands of DNA. It s important to note that DNA replication is a semi
conservative process, this means that every time a new DNA molecule is formed, an old strand is
incorporated along with the new strand. Each cycle recycles at least one of the old strands. The
process of DNA replication begins at specific sites called the origin of replication. This

How Gaming Saved My Future
Hello, My name is Marcus Paige. This is my essay on how gaming saved my future. I discovered
gaming through watching television. One show in particular that caught my attention, was called Nick
s Video Arcade . I would really get into that show because during that time I did not own my a console
of my own. So, this was the best I could do at the time. I would also pick up gaming magazines from
time to time. I could see what was new in the gaming scene and read about future consoles coming
out. I also became a huge fan of the readers section of these magazines, since you could send in
questions and have them answered. Another thing that got me into gaming was a family friend. I can
remember as a child I would always go along with my mother to visit one of her good friends. While I
was there, her son and I would always end up playing games the whole time I was visiting. By getting
into gaming, I feel that it has helped me out in many different ways. For example, back in high school
I wasn t the smartest student. I didn t apply myself much . You could say I was stuck inside a spiral
going down wards. I would notice that things weren t going so well, but I really didn t bother to try or
turn myself around . During my downward spiral, I would find myself constantly making bad
decisions. I would go out and party when I knew I should be at home studying,or doing my homework
assignments. I was also hanging out with people who had no care about my academic

Book Of Jonah Essay
The purpose of the book of Jonah is to show God s people that His plan is exceedingly compassionate
(God is gracious) and exceedingly certain (God is sovereign). The central theme of the book of Jonah
is the God who loves in freedom. We should desire to understand, accept, and love God s sovereign
grace, rather than oppose it or be resentful of it. The book of Jonah stresses the freedom and primacy
of God and God s initiative and grace toward humanity. Christians, applying the theology of Jonah to
the person and work of Jesus, could claim that Jesus Christ is the freedom of God acting in love
toward humanity
Major Themes 1. Mercy God s compassion extends even beyond what we would like, even to those
whom we ourselves show no mercy. God s Sovereignty His plan will be carried out and cannot be
avoided. 3. Resentment The book is a vivid portrait of what bitterness and resentment against other
people and against God s plan can do to a person s soul even the soul of God s own prophet.
The book of Jonah demonstrates the scope of God s mercy as He receives other nations and the
mediatory role Israel was to fulfill in its prophetic role to the nations. This focus is expressed in the
two central themes of the book: the universality of God s mercy (and by implication, the universality
of His judgment) and the mediatory role of Israel. Included in these two themes of God s freedom and
resourcefulness are His undeviating effort to instill mercy, His right and ... Show more content on

Is he pleased? Is he grateful? He is neither, but rather complains to God that He is too merciful and
sparing (4.2b). Indeed he infers (we attâ, 4.3a) from this merciful and sparing nature of God that God
should now kill him. Since the consistent OT association of YHWH s mercy is with life, not death,
Jonah s inference is clearly as mistaken as it could be. So what is happening? And what is to be done

Scavenger Hunt Research Paper
Blessing Opara Scavenger Hunt Reaction For the scavenger hunt, I went to Target where I found 21
dolls and/or action figures that were not white and 190 that were white. 24 romance cards designed for
heterosexual couples and 2 for LGBT couples. 5 signs in the store of overweight individuals and 0 of
over 60 individuals. 4 picture frames with Asian filler pictures, 0 of Latinos, 15 of Blacks, and 88 of
Whites. 0 items featuring any Native American representation. In the clothing section, I found that the
clothing racks were pretty spacious and the racks were about 4 ft. high which I think someone who is
in a wheelchair could definitely be able to navigate easily. Although, for individuals who are
physically challenged (such as a little person) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was interesting to me because I had never really noticed that before. I thought it showcased how
much our culture focuses on youth compared to the elderly as the signs were mainly advertised with
young and beautiful faces. Also, I was surprised that there were no items featuring Native American
representation. Especially with Haskell here in Lawrence, I expected to see at least a few things with
Native American representation but that wasn t the case. Overall, my conclusion from visiting Target
is that the store very well demonstrated what our culture showcases as the ideal beauty or standard for
individuals as it primarily showed young good looking white people (whether on the signs or in the
toys), able bodied (not much recognition of physically challenged or signs featuring them), thin (no
plus size section and very few signs featuring overweight individuals) and heterosexual (minimal
LGBT representation). This poses a huge problem because it s not representative of our world and
through this lack of representation of others it seemingly puts out the idea that the only form of beauty
is young, white, thin, able bodied, and heterosexual which is not the case as there are so many more
forms of beauty that should be represented both in the signs and in the

Adolf Hitler s Influence On His Deeds During World War...
Hitler
Adolf Hitler has the image of having a ruthless evil character from his deeds during world war two.
However evidences show that he was not a terribly evil person, but a normal person with large
ambitions. Canadian prime minister Mackenzie King wrote in his journal after meeting with Adolf
Hitler that, he is really one who truly loves his fellow men, and his country, and would make any
sacrifice for their good...a man of deep sincerity and a genuine patriot, which all shows he was
naturally a good person with a genuine ambition of wanting to create a better environment for himself
and the country. In January 1933, Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany and immediately began to
challenge the Treaty of Versailles and adapt an aggressive foreign policy, which led to war. It is not
hard to blame Adolf Hitler for starting the war, however looking at evidences show that he was
naturally a good person that was not taught or at the very least did not bother to realize the importance
of learning to control his ambitions to not reach the level of selfish greediness. Hence ambition is
needed to proceed forward but the control of it must be taught to refrain from these event occurring.
Napoleon
Napoleon was very ambitious to the point where it was greedy as shown in history books of his many
battles. The historians hold divergent views regarding the motives behind these battles. According to
them his chief motives for his wars are dynastic advancement, high ambition, influence of

Pride And Prejudice
The name of the book I have written my book report is Pride and Prejudice by the author Jane Austen.
The book was written in England between 1796 and 1813 when it was first published. Pride and
Prejudice is about how young people from different classes fall in love and break all social norms by
marrying each other. The story takes place in the late 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century
in the English countryside. Mainly in Hertfordshire near the village Meryton where the Bennet family
lives. The length of the period that the story takes place is well over a year. In England, at the time
when the story takes place, there is a great class division. This class division is a key point in the book
and all the problems are caused by it. In the beginning of the story Mrs. Bennet gets new of a wealthy
gentleman named Mr. Bingley is moving to town. She gets very excited by these news and is eager to
introduce her daughters to this man. At a dance Mr. Bingley dances multiple times with Jane Bennet,
the oldest daughter, and they grow very fond of each other. Mr. Bingley s sister and his friend Mr.
Darcy is also at the dance. He is a proud man and looks at himself as superior to all other people there.

sisters Lydia and Kitty. She is also quite the opposite of her dear friend Charlotte Lucas who married
Mr. Collins just to have a comfortable home and protection. Lizzy does not want to marry just for the
sake of that she needs the romance. Another example is when she walked through muddy field to see
her sister Jane that was sick at Mr. Bingley s

The Impact Of The Federal Trade Commission
When the news that President McKinley had died reached J. Pierpont Morgan, his response was, This

financier and banker of the Progressive Era counted on McKinley s campaign manager to maintain a
laissez faire market in which he could continue his railroad enterprises, namely the company he co
owned, Northern Securities, which was created to fight off competition and create a monopoly on
nearly half of the nation s transportation system. When Roosevelt assumed McKinley s office, he

Monopolies defied the principles of a free market by promoting income inequality and giving
individuals an opportunity to control the price. Roosevelt said concerning them, [W]here, in either
[unions] or [corporations], there develops corruption or mere brutal indifference to the rights of others,
and short sighted refusal to look beyond the moment s gain, then the offender, whether union or
corporation, must be fought (These United States 73). The Sherman and Clayton antitrust acts were
Congress s attempt to fight back. However, the Sherman Act failed to define monopoly and the
Clayton Act was merely a civil statute which carried no criminal penalties.
In response to those weaknesses, the Federal Trade Commission was created and given authority to
enforce the acts provisions and protect consumers by preventing anticompetitive, deceptive, and unfair
business practices... and accomplishing this without unduly burdening legitimate business activity (

Police Officers And The Police Officer
The colors red, white, and blue in America represents freedom. When a police officer approaches a
civilian in today s times, those colors mean the absolute worst. With recent police mischief including
shootings, red, white, and blue could mean absolute panic. Americans today feel as if there is a war
with police officers. The most common question civilians have, why are innocent people being killed
by police officers? The civic responsibility of a police officer is to serve and protect citizens while
upholding the law. With many recent incidents, civilians no longer feel safe around authorities. A new
policy proposed to congress by Barack Obama is for police officers to wear body worn cameras, or
BWC s. ... nine in ten Americans support the use of cameras on cops (Boone). Therefore, police
officers should be required to wear body worn cameras in order to have better security, behavior, and
evidence for crime scenes.
First off, wearing body worn cameras will provide better security to both police officers and civilians.

Expectancy Violation Research
The purpose of this review of literature is to look at the current research of expectancy violations
theory. The review covers twelve scholarly articles from 2005 2016. It includes research from the
following fields: computer studies, neuroscience, behavioral sciences, men s studies, and
communication. All of these scholars study EVT in the context of interpersonal communication and
they all reference Judee Burgoon, the creator of expectancy violations theory in their work (Burgoon

Expectancy refers to what an individual expects or predicts what may happen in an interaction
(Dickter Gyurovski, 2012; Miller Ott Kelly, 2015; Sidelinger Bolen, 2015). Researchers note that
predictive expectancies are what individuals expect in a certain situation based on what generally
happens in a specific context, while prescriptive expectancies are what individuals expect based on the
social norms of what is appropriate (Sidelinger Bolen, 2015; Walther Martin, 2015). Furthermore,
arousal may take place when a person s expectations are violated (Dickter Gyurovski, 2012; Johnson,
2012; West Turner, 2014). Arousal is shown through an increase in interest or attention when
deviations from expectations occur (West Turner, 2014). Threat threshold is the distance at which an
interactant experiences physical and psychological discomfort by the presence of another (West

Zodiac Killer Informative Speech
I have chosen to do my informative speech on the unsolved mystery of the Zodiac Killer. Methods I
will be using to captivate my audience from the book will be word pictures, numbers, key words, and
to speak claerly. I plan on starting my speech with word pictures by setting the scene of the 1960s
1970s, this was the time period the Zodiac Killer was on his killing spree. This will help them be able
to picture what it was like to live back then and hopefully help them remember my speech. I will use
numbers to get my point across of how many people were killed and affected by the Zodiac Killer
during his reign of terror. This will establish logos into my speech. I am also going to use key words to

By doing this I will have established pathos and hopefully this will grab my audience s attention.
Since the Zodiac case is still considered unsolved to this day, I will let my audience decide for
themselves who they think the killer was. I will only present facts and leave my opinion out so that it
does not persuade anyone. This will establish a motive for my audience to listen to me, so that they
can figure out who the killer is. From the book, I will use different learning styles to get my point
across, I will also do something unexpected, and I will go review my main point. To get my point
across to everyone in the audience I will use different learning styles. For the auditory learners, I will
be speaking clearly, so that they can hear and understand all my information. I will be using a
PowerPoint with both words and pictures for the visual learners and the visual print learners. Lastly
for the kinesthetic learners I will ask for a show of hands of who has ever heard of the Zodiac Killer. I
will do this so that they can be involved somehow. To keep my audience interested I will do
something unexpected. I m not going to say in this paper what I will be doing, because I want it to be
a surprise to everyone. I could end my speech with the rhetorical question now after hearing all the
facts, who do you think the Zodiac Killer is? or I could say my grandfather was the Zodiac Killer and

At that time, Coco Chanel first created the jersey clothes, which were new styles and materials. It is an
impact to the traditional costume, the concept of clothing and tailoring. Women felt more comfortable
and liberating. Before her design, a cheap fabrice was used for men s underwear. She introduced
casual, comfortable, suitable clothes. With the liberation of women following the war Chanel clothing
became known for allowing freedom of movement in comfortable, fluid designs and practical sporty
wear as ladies left their kitchens and began to enjoy more active lives (Farrer J. , 2008). This idea
became very popular, that changed purpose completely during the following century. Chanel s jersey

Coco Chanel not only revolutionized what women should wear, but also, in society, she freed women

Before Chanel s design, the most popular style in the Europe was Baroque style. A person s clothing

Igor Reznikoff s Ideas To Create The Analytical Engine
Johnson refers to Lovelace and Babbage as time travelers, although he doesn t mean so literally the
point he is conveying is that they were both drastically ahead of their era in a creative and innovative
sense. Working together, Ada and Charles were able to combine their out of the box ambitions and
systematic thought process to create the Analytical Engine. I believe it was Ada s background in
mathematics and her father s work that drove her to push the boundaries of what Babbage had in
mind. Ada said, the Engine might compose elaborate and scientific pieces of music of any degree of
complexity or extent in reference to her vision of using the Analytical Engine for more than complex
number crunching (265). It was the constant challenge the two presented one another that molded the
Engine into what it became. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

images they had painted, and they chanted or sang in some kind of shamanic ritual, using the
reverberations of the cave to magically widen the sound of their voices (Johnson 99). If the
connections had not been made between the sound amplification in the cave and the concentrations of
paintings, we would not have the same insight we do today about Neanderthal communities and

enters its eighth edition, I am deeply appreciative of the students and teachers who have made it the
leading work on its subject at colleges and universities across the United States. In preparing this
edition, I have retained what readers have identified as the main strengths of previous editions. The

theory for its own sake. Keeping a steady eye on the practical skills of public speaking, it offers full

Much more than a manner of winning friends and influencing people, it is a vital mode of civic
engagement through which people express their ideas and influence their society. I have rewritten the
opening pages of Chapter 1 to make this point more explicitly than in previous editions partly through
the addition of a new section titled The Tradition of Public Speaking, and partly through the reworking
of existing material. This new emphasis seeks to provide a sharper intellectual foundation for the book
and for the public speaking course in general. Plagiarism and the Internet When it comes to

working with the Internet, this section addresses the problem of websites that sell complete speeches

bioavailability of fenofibrate compared to a commercial product. In another study, a conjugation of a
sonication probe with an extruder was used to fabricate a nanostructure lipid carrier loaded with
lidocaine (Bhagurkar, Repka et al. 2016). The lipid nanosuspension was formulated to a topical gel for
cutaneous pain management. The drug release profile of the dosage form was governed by drug
release from the lipid matrix, and thus it was claimed to have extended release effect. Even though
extrusion emulsifying effect is not as powerful as that of high speed homogenizers or colloidal mills, it
poses a potential to integrate into a continuous manufacturing process.
6.6. Pharmaceutical reactive extrusion
The term of reactive extrusion has been used in polymer science for several decades. It is considered
as an efficient mean for continuous polymerization, chemical modification of polymers, as well as
combination of chemical synthesis and shaping polymer products (Tzoganakis 1989). Hot melt
extrusion offers heat and microscale homogenizing simultaneously, thus it has a potential to
melt/soften compounds and blend them together at molecular level. It enables molecular contacts, and
thus chemical reactions without solvent needed. Therefore, melt extrusion is viewed as an

Benefits Of A Non Corporate Taxpayer
Expenses attributable to profit seeking farm activities are deductible as either business expenses under
IRC § 162 or production of income expenses under Section § 212. Under IRC § 162, ordinary and
necessary expenses paid or incurred in connection with a trade or business are allowable as business
expenses. Under IRC § 212, ordinary and necessary expenses paid or incurred in connection with the
production of income, or the management, conservation or maintenance of property held for the
production of income are allowable business expenses. Farm expenses that satisfy the requirements
under IRC § 162 or 212 are allowable without regard to the amount of income derived from farming
activity, subject to the risk rules, the passive activity loss rules and any other applicable limitations. If
a non corporate taxpayer engages in an activity without a profit motive, the activity is considered a
hobby subject to the hobby loss rules.
The hobby loss rules under IRC § 183 limit the deductibility of certain items with respect to an
activity that is not engaged in for profit. The history of IRC § 183 indicates that one of the primary
motivating factors behind its passage was Congress desire to create an objective standard to determine
whether a taxpayer was carrying on a business for the purpose of realizing a profit or was instead
merely attempting to create and utilize losses to offset other income (Nickerson vs Comm, 1983).
Congress recognized that wealthy individuals have invested

Fahrenheit 451 Quote Analysis
In Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury shows us that this book is described as a totalitarian dystopian story. In
the beginning of the book he explains the hatred that is held by the people against books and he carries
out this theme throughout the whole story. By stating So now you see why books are hated and
feared? They show the pores in the face of life. The comfortable people want only wax moon faces,
poreless, hairless, expressionless (Bradbury 83). This quote is stating that the government is taking
control over people by taking the little things, such as books, that provide mankind with information
on a day to day basis, making it easy for the people s minds to grow and become more educated.
Within the quote that is used, Bradbury uses imagry when he says pores in the face of life he is
refuring to the knowledge that comes from the books that leads people to questioning the authority
compared to the ignorance of the society that is shown throughout the novel. ... Show more content on

Catfishing Research Paper
Meta: Learn if the person you ve been talking to on social media is really who they claim to be. Don t
let yourself be duped by catfishing. Hire an investigator to help.
Article:
It might be surprising to learn that inmates in prison are allowed to email and text with others on
platforms like Facebook, Twitter and through email providers that service the prison system. There are
more and more people meeting online and making a connection, which leaves people ripe for being
deceived by people who are misrepresenting themselves.

In cases like that, the investigator will give you the information they ve uncovered, but the rest will be

Catfishers Commit Fraud
Investigators can use a variety of equipment to search for someone online, find out if they re in prison,
learn where they live and if they re married or put them under surveillance. If the catfisher has
committed fraud or identity theft, the private investigator can turn that information over to the police
who will conduct their own investigation that can lead to the person being arrested.
The investigator will use a variety of tools to learn all the information they can about the fraudster
including monitoring systems and in person surveillance using spy glasses or spy cams. The lengths
that the investigators goes to will depend on the client s desires.
It s unfortunate when a person believes they re meeting someone online and feels an incredible
connection with them only to find out that they re lying. It s better to know the truth than to be
deceived. A private investigator can find out more about the person you re talking to online if you

The Environmental Protection Agency ( Epa )
We live in a world where synthetic chemicals are routinely used for the production of essential
components of modern life. As more research emerges correlations are made, chemicals are tested,
and toxicants are identified, reengineered, and replaced with others equal in cause but unequal in
effect. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the national authority tasked with this dynamic
approach. The EPA defines hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) as pollutants that are known or suspected
to cause cancer or other serious health effects, such as... damage to the immune system, as well as
neurological, reproductive... developmental, respiratory and other health problems (About Air Toxics,

and releases from building ventilation systems (Release Reports, 2015). Point Source air emissions,
also called stack air are emissions that occur through confined air streams such as stack, vent, ducts, or
pipes (Release Reports, 2015). This paper will hereafter discuss HAPs in Boulder, Colorado where I

income is $67,956 and 14.2% of people are living below poverty. Lastly, 11.23% of people are
uninsured (State and County Quick Facts, 2015). Boulder is over 5300 feet above sea level with an
arid, sunny climate. The Rocky Mountains provide a backdrop that beckons residents to explore either
by skiing, biking, hiking, kayaking, fishing, or more. Toluene is the seventh largest fugitive air

Iwo Jima Victory was never in doubt. Its cost was. What was in doubt was whether there would be any
of us left to dedicate our cemetery at the end, or whether the last Marine would die knocking out the
last Japanese gunner, Major General Graves Erskine, dedicating his 3rd Marine Division cemetery at
Iwo Jima just after the battle.(Alexander 207) The sea invasion of Iwo Jima was and still is the largest
of any in all the years of the United States Marine Corps history. This invasion was also the most
devastating. More than 26,000 Marines lost their lives while when trying to take over this small

The Japanese had it made. They had all they needed in their caves. You would of thought that the
Japanese would have paid a bunch of money to fortify the island but they really did not. The had many
of the Empire s most gifted mining engineers to dig tunnels throughout the volcanic mountains. It took
them no time to have miles of tunnels running through the mountains. These tunnels made it easy for
the Japanese to move from one position to the other. But life was not to great in the caves because the
United States Seventh Air Force bombers dropped bombs on them daily in hope to soften them up
before the massive invasion. Another helpful aspect to the Japanese was the sand on the beaches. The
sand wasn t like in paradise. It was black and loose making running across the beachhead very
difficult. The only flaw to the island that did not help the Japanese was the surf. The surf was too
rough to plant anti boat mines. The entire island is flat except for the promontory of Mount Suribachi,
and extinct volcano, which is 556 feet high in the southern portion of the island. (Siefring 117) The
invasion with this type of landscape was not as easy as one would think. One Naval officer suggested

Essay on Arguments Against Skepticism
If I tried to simply tell a skeptic, That rock will fall from the cliff because of gravity, he won t believe
me because he will simply say, Not necessarily. In fact, this can be the skeptic s answer to just about
any attempt to refute his position.
It has long been pointed out by opponents of skepticism that such an attitude cannot be taken to its
extreme conclusion in the real world in which we operate even skeptics must live their lives according
to rules they must rely upon not to fail. Skepticism (and all philosophy) cannot avoid the cumbersome
nature of human language and the simple fact that the only tool humans have to investigate the nature
of existence is the brain, which spawns coherent thoughts in a lingual form. In day ... Show more

However, insofar as the skeptic poses the external question from the comfort of her armchair, Carnap
will reply that ``Unless and until they supply a clear cognitive interpretation, we are justified in our
suspicion that their question is a pseudo question, that is, one disguised in the form of a theoretical
question while in fact it is non theoretical ****
Calling philosophical propositions meaningless is usually very antagonistic; it amounts to using
fighting words. Some of the less thoughtful critics of Carnap see him as (solely) making this kind of
pejorative value judgment. Those who use ``positivist as a kind of academic curse word regard Carnap
as merely arguing that philosophers should find something more useful (and more scientific!) to do
than chasing their tails worrying about skepticism. This image of an antagonistic stance is bolstered by
Carnap s intimate involvement with the Vienna Circle who is known to have gone through the
Tractatus line by line declaring each proposition true, false, or meaningless. While there are certainly
overtones of this pejorative attitude, a moment s reflection on the text will show how this is a
completely wrongheaded interpretation of the claim that skepticism is a meaningless doctrine.
For Carnap, a terms gets its meaning only in virtue of its role within a linguistic framework. ``If

Justifying Appeasement Essay example
Justifying Appeasement Appeasement was the foreign policy followed by the British and French
governments in the 1930s, whereby they did not attack or confront other governments, specifically
that of Germany s, when international laws were breached, but rather gave into some of the demands
to keep the peace. After the horror and dramatic loss of innocent lives (amassing over 3 million) in the
First World War, both the French and the British governments were keen to avoid any more blood
shed and their pacifist policies meant they started to take a very lenient attitude towards breached
international laws. They knew that the general public, for whom the memories of war were still rife,

The allies felt that if they gave in to Hitler s reasonable demands about the Treaty, he would be
satisfied and Germany would become a peaceful nation again. This notion seems to have little
grounding or thorough consideration on the part of the British and French, who s blind faith in Hitler
being satisfied with only these reforms was to have disastrous consequences. I do not feel that
Appeasement was justified by the government at the time, and certainly is not in retrospect,
considering the part it played in Hitler s rise to power. The spread of Communism and the new
dangers to world peace posed by Stalin (the new leader of the USSR) were prevalent threats to the
allies. Hitler s anti Communist policies were appealing to the British and French as a bulwark against
this threat so they did not want to be too harsh with him. Appeasement was justifiable as a way of
keeping Hitler on side in an attempt to use him as protection. The British and French governments
were also concerned with the economic problems they faced in their own countries, such as recession,
inflation, unemployment. They were using rearmament as a way to tackle the latter of these

What is concept change? For example, the article A General Overview of Conceptual Change
Research says, It is important to understand that those who are involved in the conceptual change

Essay On The Code Of Hammurabi
Hammurabi was the sixth king in the First Dynasty of Babylon in the 18th century BCE. He became a
first king of the empire of Babylonia when he conquest Sumerian and Akkadians. He was the creator
of the Code of Hammurabi that known as one of the earliest surviving codes of law in recorded
history.
The Code of Hammurabi is one of history s oldest and best preserved written law which appeared in
Mesopotamia around 1760 BCE. It consists of customary norms that were collected toward the end of
his reign and inscribed on a diorite stela set up in Babylon s temple of Marduk, the god of Babylonia.
The 282 chapters include economic provisions (prices, tariffs, trade, and commerce), family law
(marriage and divorce), as well as criminal law (assault, theft) and civil law (slavery, debt). Penalties
varied according to the status of the offenders and the circumstances of the offenses. These laws
considered words which sent by the Sun god Shamash to Hammurabi. Therefore, people believed that
as long as they obey the laws, then they obey the god s words.

College Athletes Should Get Paid Analysis
1.Introduction
Throughout my high school athletic career, playing both football and running cross country, i ve
witnessed multiple teammates of mine receive scholarships to continue their athletic and academic
careers at a university. However due to the disproportionate number of hours spent on the sport rather
than academics without receiving compensation is causing many high school athletes to turn down
athletic scholarships and instead begin to focus on their academic futures.
In December 2012 I had the pleasure of accompanying the Baylor Bears football team on a flight after
their 49 26 win against UCLA in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego California, nearly the entire flight
was comprised of football players and personnel, with coaches and starters sitting first class, seniors
behind them and so on. I was seated in the very last row next to then redshirt freshman quarterback
Seth Russell who has since become a star at Baylor. He and I began discussing how great life of a
college athlete was and he explained to me that the scholarship he received, along with the free room
and board was his compensation and that the countless practice hours that appear to subtract time that
could be used studying would equate hours of work necessary to cover the expenses of attending the

Report Prepared by: Report Prepared by: General Dynamics Through the Lens of a Strategy
Consultant General Dynamics Through the Lens of a Strategy Consultant EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
General Dynamics (GD) has realized a long standing history of success delivering product and service
solutions since being formed in 1952. They have purposely divested themselves of technology,
product and service offerings in an effort to remain focused on their core competencies and primary
customer; the United States Department of Defense. While GD s primary customer remains the DoD,
they have diversified their offerings to adjacent markets within the DoD (e.g, Information Technology
and Cybersecurity solutions). GD has also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specific to land systems, GD competes against platform providers such as BAE Systems. The barriers
to entry are cost prohibitive and the technology and intellectual capital owned by GD negates any
threat of competition. The lack of competition is borderline monopolistic, however an oligopoly is a
better characterization since there is a credible competitor within the combat vehicle market. The
outlook for the defense industry remains strong. Continued technology insertion programs,
development of next generation ground combat vehicle platform and reset of legacy fleet will provide
steady revenue and opportunity for GD. Sales to foreign militaries and coalition forces are expected to
grow to offset budget deficits and get rid of excess capacity attributed to ongoing wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan. EXTERNAL ANALYSIS Entering the combat systems market is a difficult task that is
capital intensive and requires a unique, game changing solution that can be proven safe, reliable and
effective in short order and superior to industry leaders such as GD. Though the steady growth within
the industry and the large contract award values entices new entrants to explore entry, most will find
that it is ultimately not feasible to compete against such industry leaders. The Defense industry, as a
whole is faced with increasing regulation and fixed profit (margin) for

how much gold he wears and he dressed in expensive clothes instead of the normal, plain clothes that
monks usually wear. Greed is an emotion that monks left go when they a join a monastery. They do
this because when they become they must let go of their greed because monks are people that give to

three different ways in lust for women, hunting, and riding. Hunting and riding are act lust because
lust is not just the yearning of sex with a woman (or a man) it is when a person loses self control and

  • 2. Use Of Force In Law Enforcement The use of force is hard to distinguish in law enforcement. The use of force and the laws of it vary from state to state. (National Institute of Justice, November 29, 2016) broadly defined the use of force as, police officers use of force actions become necessary under certain circumstances, like self defense or protecting another individual from harm. In law enforcement, they usually have steps officers have to take before they can use the higher violent techniques. There are times where people do not agree with the use of force in certain situations. And excessive force does happen at times, and most of the time the police officer involved will get punished for his actions. According to (National Institute of Justice, November 29,2016) Law enforcement officers should only use the appropriate amount of force necessary to mitigate an incident. So, they can only assert the appropriate amount of force to make an arrest, or to protect someone from harm. Which means the level of force varies with every situation, at times it could be as simple as verbally communicating to the criminal, or it could be as bad as pulling your weapon on the criminal. So, guidelines for use of force is based on many factors. (National Institute of Justice, November 29, 2016) An officer s goal is to regain control as soon as possible while protecting the community. Use of force is an officers last option. (National Institute of Justice, November 29, 2016) When this happens injuries may occur, and police have to ensure that the person injured get medical attention and the family of the injured person be notified. There are certain steps police officers have to take for use of force, they call it the use of force continuum. Not every state has the same continuum but they are usually very similar. The officers are supposed to respond to the level of force appropriate to the situation. The (National Institute of Justice, August 4, 2009) gives us a good example of what the use of force continuum might look like. The first step is officer presence, no force is used at this time because the presence of the officer is enough to deescalate the situation. The next step is verbalization, this is when the officer gives the suspect commands to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Improving An Employee s Stress Level Is Through Supervision Alternatively, one of the most common methods used to manage an employee s stress level is through supervision. As previously stated, social workers who work within the child welfare system can use daily debriefing based on the critical incidents that occur with this population. For example, from personal experience of being a supervisor over case managers working with children, supervision was crucial not only for myself but for the caseworkers. The caseworkers were able to release their emotions, concerns, and possible fears when dealing with their clients and their family. Huss (2012) shows how employees use supervision to cope and discuss stressful situations, however, it is explained how supervision is beginning to suddenly decrease. Huss (2012) describes how supervision is beginning to decrease, which can be due to the possible lack of supervisory positions or funding. This is an example of why the current practices, i.e. EPA, supervision, and OD, need to change within organizations. Based on personal experience, in order to help manage an employees stress, an organization needs to ensure that their staff has the tools needed to work efficiently and effectively. Organizations must be aware of the stress that can be caused by the policies, regulations and conflicting demands of the external and internal factors that influence an employee s work (Dextras Gautier, Marchand, Haines, 2012). Furthermore, organizational SMIs encompass the leadership of administration, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. According to Inderjeet Dokal there are currently 13 known... According to Inderjeet Dokal there are currently 13 known variations of genes that cause FA and they are as follows: FANCA, FANCB, FANCC, FANCD1, FANCD2, FANCE, FANCF, FANCG, FANCI, FANCJ, FANCL, FANCM, and FANCN (Dokal, 2008). Dokal and many other doctors agree that FA is a very penetrant genetic disorder. That is, all of these subtypes of the FA gene can cause many of the different types of cancer and bone marrow deficiencies that are associated with FA. For example, in the list given by Dokal, the subtype FANCA is known to express as a gene that controls certain aspects of protein coding. This one genetic subtype causes breakdowns in the various checkpoints throughout the cell cycle. As you can imagine, this one gene can destroy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The expressivity and penetrance of FA are largely based on the number and type of subtypes present. It was found that a large amount of the subtypes of FA actually interact with each other in one form or another to cause reactions and abnormalities in many of the pathways that are critical to the replication and regulation of DNA in each of the cells pathways. Interestingly enough, if just one of the subtypes is not present, then the expression of the interference is not as extreme as it could be if all of the subtypes needed for a category were present. With that said, it s important to understand what happens during a normal cycle of DNA replication. This will provide a greater understanding of the effects of FA on the DNA replication process. By understanding the processes and events of replication you can see how those subtypes of FA like FANCL can be so detrimental to the affected individuals cells. The process of replication in regards to DNA is a complicated set of processes in which thousands of base pairs are accurately copied and translated to produce new strands of DNA. It s important to note that DNA replication is a semi conservative process, this means that every time a new DNA molecule is formed, an old strand is incorporated along with the new strand. Each cycle recycles at least one of the old strands. The process of DNA replication begins at specific sites called the origin of replication. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Gaming Saved My Future Hello, My name is Marcus Paige. This is my essay on how gaming saved my future. I discovered gaming through watching television. One show in particular that caught my attention, was called Nick s Video Arcade . I would really get into that show because during that time I did not own my a console of my own. So, this was the best I could do at the time. I would also pick up gaming magazines from time to time. I could see what was new in the gaming scene and read about future consoles coming out. I also became a huge fan of the readers section of these magazines, since you could send in questions and have them answered. Another thing that got me into gaming was a family friend. I can remember as a child I would always go along with my mother to visit one of her good friends. While I was there, her son and I would always end up playing games the whole time I was visiting. By getting into gaming, I feel that it has helped me out in many different ways. For example, back in high school I wasn t the smartest student. I didn t apply myself much . You could say I was stuck inside a spiral going down wards. I would notice that things weren t going so well, but I really didn t bother to try or turn myself around . During my downward spiral, I would find myself constantly making bad decisions. I would go out and party when I knew I should be at home studying,or doing my homework assignments. I was also hanging out with people who had no care about my academic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Book Of Jonah Essay The purpose of the book of Jonah is to show God s people that His plan is exceedingly compassionate (God is gracious) and exceedingly certain (God is sovereign). The central theme of the book of Jonah is the God who loves in freedom. We should desire to understand, accept, and love God s sovereign grace, rather than oppose it or be resentful of it. The book of Jonah stresses the freedom and primacy of God and God s initiative and grace toward humanity. Christians, applying the theology of Jonah to the person and work of Jesus, could claim that Jesus Christ is the freedom of God acting in love toward humanity Major Themes 1. Mercy God s compassion extends even beyond what we would like, even to those whom we ourselves show no mercy. God s Sovereignty His plan will be carried out and cannot be avoided. 3. Resentment The book is a vivid portrait of what bitterness and resentment against other people and against God s plan can do to a person s soul even the soul of God s own prophet. The book of Jonah demonstrates the scope of God s mercy as He receives other nations and the mediatory role Israel was to fulfill in its prophetic role to the nations. This focus is expressed in the two central themes of the book: the universality of God s mercy (and by implication, the universality of His judgment) and the mediatory role of Israel. Included in these two themes of God s freedom and resourcefulness are His undeviating effort to instill mercy, His right and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is he pleased? Is he grateful? He is neither, but rather complains to God that He is too merciful and sparing (4.2b). Indeed he infers (we attâ, 4.3a) from this merciful and sparing nature of God that God should now kill him. Since the consistent OT association of YHWH s mercy is with life, not death, Jonah s inference is clearly as mistaken as it could be. So what is happening? And what is to be done about ... Scavenger Hunt Research Paper Blessing Opara Scavenger Hunt Reaction For the scavenger hunt, I went to Target where I found 21 dolls and/or action figures that were not white and 190 that were white. 24 romance cards designed for heterosexual couples and 2 for LGBT couples. 5 signs in the store of overweight individuals and 0 of over 60 individuals. 4 picture frames with Asian filler pictures, 0 of Latinos, 15 of Blacks, and 88 of Whites. 0 items featuring any Native American representation. In the clothing section, I found that the clothing racks were pretty spacious and the racks were about 4 ft. high which I think someone who is in a wheelchair could definitely be able to navigate easily. Although, for individuals who are physically challenged (such as a little person) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was interesting to me because I had never really noticed that before. I thought it showcased how much our culture focuses on youth compared to the elderly as the signs were mainly advertised with young and beautiful faces. Also, I was surprised that there were no items featuring Native American representation. Especially with Haskell here in Lawrence, I expected to see at least a few things with Native American representation but that wasn t the case. Overall, my conclusion from visiting Target is that the store very well demonstrated what our culture showcases as the ideal beauty or standard for individuals as it primarily showed young good looking white people (whether on the signs or in the toys), able bodied (not much recognition of physically challenged or signs featuring them), thin (no plus size section and very few signs featuring overweight individuals) and heterosexual (minimal LGBT representation). This poses a huge problem because it s not representative of our world and through this lack of representation of others it seemingly puts out the idea that the only form of beauty is young, white, thin, able bodied, and heterosexual which is not the case as there are so many more forms of beauty that should be represented both in the signs and in the ... • 8. Adolf Hitler s Influence On His Deeds During World War... Hitler Adolf Hitler has the image of having a ruthless evil character from his deeds during world war two. However evidences show that he was not a terribly evil person, but a normal person with large ambitions. Canadian prime minister Mackenzie King wrote in his journal after meeting with Adolf Hitler that, he is really one who truly loves his fellow men, and his country, and would make any sacrifice for their good...a man of deep sincerity and a genuine patriot, which all shows he was naturally a good person with a genuine ambition of wanting to create a better environment for himself and the country. In January 1933, Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany and immediately began to challenge the Treaty of Versailles and adapt an aggressive foreign policy, which led to war. It is not hard to blame Adolf Hitler for starting the war, however looking at evidences show that he was naturally a good person that was not taught or at the very least did not bother to realize the importance of learning to control his ambitions to not reach the level of selfish greediness. Hence ambition is needed to proceed forward but the control of it must be taught to refrain from these event occurring. Napoleon Napoleon was very ambitious to the point where it was greedy as shown in history books of his many battles. The historians hold divergent views regarding the motives behind these battles. According to them his chief motives for his wars are dynastic advancement, high ambition, influence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Pride And Prejudice The name of the book I have written my book report is Pride and Prejudice by the author Jane Austen. The book was written in England between 1796 and 1813 when it was first published. Pride and Prejudice is about how young people from different classes fall in love and break all social norms by marrying each other. The story takes place in the late 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century in the English countryside. Mainly in Hertfordshire near the village Meryton where the Bennet family lives. The length of the period that the story takes place is well over a year. In England, at the time when the story takes place, there is a great class division. • 30. Justifying Appeasement Essay example Justifying Appeasement Appeasement was the foreign policy followed by the British and French governments in the 1930s, whereby they did not attack or confront other governments, specifically that of Germany s, when international laws were breached, but rather gave into some of the demands to keep the peace. After the horror and dramatic loss of innocent lives (amassing over 3 million) in the First World War, both the French and the British governments were keen to avoid any more blood shed and their pacifist policies meant they started to take a very lenient attitude towards breached international laws. They knew that the general public, for whom the memories of war were still rife, thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The allies felt that if they gave in to Hitler s reasonable demands about the Treaty, he would be satisfied and Germany would become a peaceful nation again. This notion seems to have little grounding or thorough consideration on the part of the British and French, who s blind faith in Hitler being satisfied with only these reforms was to have disastrous consequences. I do not feel that Appeasement was justified by the government at the time, and certainly is not in retrospect, considering the part it played in Hitler s rise to power. The spread of Communism and the new dangers to world peace posed by Stalin (the new leader of the USSR) were prevalent threats to the allies. Hitler s anti Communist policies were appealing to the British and French as a bulwark against this threat so they did not want to be too harsh with him. Appeasement was justifiable as a way of keeping Hitler on side in an attempt to use him as protection. The British and French governments were also concerned with the economic problems they faced in their own countries, such as recession, inflation, unemployment. They were using rearmament as a way to tackle the latter of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. What Is Concept Change What is concept change? For example, the article A General Overview of Conceptual Change Research says, It is important to understand that those who are involved in the conceptual change research domain are concerned about much more than simply altering a particular belief. If this were not the case, then it could be argued that conceptual change occurs every time someone changes his or her mind, or learns something new about a certain issue act (Ruhf, 2003, P.1). This shows that a one person can have a change over time. Concept change doesn t just happen over a day, it happens over a long period of time. For example, Concept change is like building a puzzle and it takes time. In the article in the beginning of this class I didn t really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He became a first king of the empire of Babylonia when he conquest Sumerian and Akkadians. He was the creator of the Code of Hammurabi that known as one of the earliest surviving codes of law in recorded history. The Code of Hammurabi is one of history s oldest and best preserved written law which appeared in Mesopotamia around 1760 BCE. It consists of customary norms that were collected toward the end of his reign and inscribed on a diorite stela set up in Babylon s temple of Marduk, the god of Babylonia. The 282 chapters include economic provisions (prices, tariffs, trade, and commerce), family law (marriage and divorce), as well as criminal law (assault, theft) and civil law (slavery, debt). Penalties varied according to the status of the offenders and the circumstances of the offenses. These laws considered words which sent by the Sun god Shamash to Hammurabi. • 34. College Athletes Should Get Paid Analysis 1.Introduction Throughout my high school athletic career, playing both football and running cross country, i ve witnessed multiple teammates of mine receive scholarships to continue their athletic and academic careers at a university. However due to the disproportionate number of hours spent on the sport rather than academics without receiving compensation is causing many high school athletes to turn down athletic scholarships and instead begin to focus on their academic futures. In December 2012 I had the pleasure of accompanying the Baylor Bears football team on a flight after their 49 26 win against UCLA in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego California, nearly the entire flight was comprised of football players and personnel, with coaches and starters sitting first class, seniors behind them and so on. I was seated in the very last row next to then redshirt freshman quarterback Seth Russell who has since become a star at Baylor. He and I began discussing how great life of a college athlete was and he explained to me that the scholarship he received, along with the free room and board was his compensation and that the countless practice hours that appear to subtract time that could be used studying would equate hours of work necessary to cover the expenses of attending the university. However when you take into account the standard tuition at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competitive Analysis Report Prepared by: Report Prepared by: General Dynamics Through the Lens of a Strategy Consultant General Dynamics Through the Lens of a Strategy Consultant EXECUTIVE SUMMARY General Dynamics (GD) has realized a long standing history of success delivering product and service solutions since being formed in 1952. They have purposely divested themselves of technology, product and service offerings in an effort to remain focused on their core competencies and primary customer; the United States Department of Defense. While GD s primary customer remains the DoD, they have diversified their offerings to adjacent markets within the DoD (e.g, Information Technology and Cybersecurity solutions). GD has also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specific to land systems, GD competes against platform providers such as BAE Systems. The barriers to entry are cost prohibitive and the technology and intellectual capital owned by GD negates any threat of competition. The lack of competition is borderline monopolistic, however an oligopoly is a better characterization since there is a credible competitor within the combat vehicle market. The outlook for the defense industry remains strong. Continued technology insertion programs, development of next generation ground combat vehicle platform and reset of legacy fleet will provide steady revenue and opportunity for GD. Sales to foreign militaries and coalition forces are expected to grow to offset budget deficits and get rid of excess capacity attributed to ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. EXTERNAL ANALYSIS Entering the combat systems market is a difficult task that is capital intensive and requires a unique, game changing solution that can be proven safe, reliable and effective in short order and superior to industry leaders such as GD. Though the steady growth within the industry and the large contract award values entices new entrants to explore entry, most will find that it is ultimately not feasible to compete against such industry leaders. The Defense industry, as a whole is faced with increasing regulation and fixed profit (margin) for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are, usually, kind people who prefer peacefully resolutions to problems, also they do not indulge themselves with worldly desires they only use what they need to survive and nothing more. They are people that are strong of mind and body and like to help those in need even if they do not have much to give themselves. They are scholarly people who give up everything to pursue higher state of mind, soul, and body. There are colors in his attire that show the sins that he allowed to take him from the path of a true monk. There are two colors that describe him completely. The colors are yellow and blue these three colors represent the emotions greed and lust. The first emotion, greed, is shown and represented by how much gold he wears and he dressed in expensive clothes instead of the normal, plain clothes that monks usually wear. Greed is an emotion that monks left go when they a join a monastery. They do this because when they become they must let go of their greed because monks are people that give to others to make their lives easier while not caring for their own needs and wants. The Monk has not let go of his greed which brings of the question of why he cannot let go of it. Is he that consumed by his own wants and needs that he does not help feel the others or is because he is scared that he gives too much and in up in the situation as them. The next sin that the Monk displays is lust. He displays it in three different ways in lust for women, hunting, and riding. Hunting and riding are act lust because lust is not just the yearning of sex with a woman (or a man) it is when a person loses self control and acts on desires that are supposed to be acted upon. His lust for women that is be allowed because a monk must remain celibate and must think of the lord. They do not hunt or ride because they mostly eat grains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
