protection was conducted in the Ofenegg tunnel in Switzerland in 1965. The
tunnel was an old single track railway tunnel, 4 m wide at the base and 6 m high.
Three fire sizes obtained with aircraft petrol fuel were used in the test with following
specifications: (a) 100L and 6.6 m2 pool size; (b) 500 L and 47.5 m2 pool size; and
(c) 1000 L and 95 m2 pool size. Two lines of sprinklers were installed on the ceiling
of the tunnel. The water capacity was 19 L/(min m2). There was no information on the
sprinkler system activation time.
The fires developed very quickly during the tests and the maximum temperature was
reached 1 to 2 minutes after ignition. Temperatures in the tunnel were quite high with
maximum temperatures near the ceiling ranging from 1200 degree Celsius to 1400
degree Celsius prior to sprinkler activation.
The sprinklers were able to extinguish all of the fires within a short period of time.
But, a significant quantity of hot steam was obtained during fire suppression.
Visibility was found to decrease because of hot steam and cooling of the smoke layer

work members from the first concert I saw, the LDC s 10th Repertoire Dance
Concert, put into improving themselves as a dancer and performer. All the dancers

them captive. John K. Thornton believes that the contribution of African soldiers was

Soldiers in the Haitian Revolution , he noted that, the rebellious slaves of Haiti

enslaved persons in Saint Domingue were not simply just agricultural workers, but

What connection does the couple have to the young boy? Will the young boy be the
protagonist of the film or is his appearance irrelevant? Gilliam incorporates this
purposeful mystery to give us our first taste of the thriller element to the film.
During the final shot of the boy s face we begin to hear a woman calling out names,
this voice does not seem to belong in the current scene, and it doesn t. The camera
cuts to the face of a rugged, sleeping man. We have changed time and place suddenly
which immediately serves to confuse the audience. Cole, James is the next name that
the female voice shouts and the man awakes suddenly. He appears to be lying in
some kind of metal cage on a hammock style bed. Turning to the cage next to him, his
friend tells him that they were naming volunteers and called your name . This
sentence confirms that the first man we saw is James Cole. He sighs, rolls his eyes
and heaves himself out of his bed. The friends continue to talk. Cole speaks of how
none of the volunteers ever come back. The camera shows us a high angle shot of
hundreds of other cages like Cole s. One man is being lifted out of his cage by a
large hook and we guess that he is one of the volunteers . The place is dark and we
suspect it is underground, as the only light in the place is artificial. It is clear that

mind by drinking alcohol and the pressure of guilt to create an unreliable narrator,
because it can easily modify the narrator s judgement towards his cat, Pluto. Before
the narrator starts drinking, he loves animals and contain a variety of them in his
house. Right after the addiction of alcohol, the narrator physically and verbally
abuses his pets, which causes one night, returning home, much intoxicated, from one
of [his] haunts about town, [he] [fancy] that [Pluto] [avoids] [his] presence (Poe 5).
