Signs Of Edmund Evil
There are many important signs which must be read carefully. Many pertain to what is good and
what is evil. Many of the signs seem easy to read, but Edmund does not seem to be able to read
them correctly. In this essay, I will discuss some of the more conventional signs and determine
why Edmund has such difficulty. Almost all of the signs having to do with the witch seem to be
ignored by Edmund. Her deathly pale skin and blood red lips are both signs that she is evil. The
uncomfortable feeling that Edmund felt around the witch is a sign from inside of him that is
ignored. The animals that were turned to stone are a sign of her evil misuse of power. Edmund
does not read these signs correctly. Instead he justifies them to himself: All these

Radio Frequency Identification Is Important For Airport...
abrownBUS310_101615. Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) should
implement radio frequency identification (RFID) tags in the airport s baggage handling
operations for a variety of reasons. First, implementing this system will be beneficial to airport
workers, travelers, and the airlines. Second, the cost of lost luggage fees and millions of dollars
being spent in reimbursements will be significantly reduced. Third, the overall control of
luggage will be more efficient and effective. Fourth, traveler satisfaction will improve, as the
luggage process will be hassle free. In order for the RFID tagging system to properly function, it
is important for the airport to make an effective plan. Planning which is, choosing a goal and
developing a strategy to achieve that goal, (Williams, 2015, p.4) is an approach that will benefit
all involved. In this case specifically, it will benefit the airport workers, travelers, and the airlines
themselves. The amount of customer service representatives it takes to handle all aspects of the
baggage process is very large. From customer service representatives taking complaints, to tracking
and identifying lost luggage, you name it, it is imperative to have a staff member available at all
times. Today s automated baggage handling systems play a critical role in alleviating the pressures
played on ground support personnel and in helping them increase customer satisfaction (Heacock,
2005, p.1). With this, implementing RFID s in

According To A Violence Policy Center Analysis Of News
According to a Violence Policy Center analysis of news reports, concealed carry permit holders
have killed at least 11 law enforcement officers and 319 private citizens since May 2007, 19 of
these were mass shootings, and 27 murder suicides. I personally believe that individuals in
America without a criminal record should not be able to carry a concealed weapon in public
settings. Carrying a concealed weapon in public settings is automatically imposing a threat on
those around you. It increases the chances of an altercation escalating and turning lethal and is
portrayed as self defense . Giving individuals the right to carry a concealed weapon in public
settings makes the ones without a weapon feel less safe, or intimidated at all... Show more content

There are many rules and regulations that are made out to follow for those carrying these
weapons. If a person were not emotionally or mentally stable, they would not be allowed to get a
permit to carry the weapon with them. You cannot predict the future; an individual can be
perfectly stable when purchasing a weapon, but further in time can possibly become unstable
due to unforeseen circumstances. Due to these unforeseen circumstances it can make an
individual do things that are out of character, which is keeping a gun in an concealed place
while in public can be problematic. One person s personal problem can lead to taking the life of
another, as described in the media, during mass shootings, or parking lot confrontations. The
public safety in general should never be compromised under any circumstances. Public safety is
the main concern to everybody, I want to feel safe when I am gone out to the mall, not always
have the fear of something tragic happening due to someone else s silly mistake. According to an
article on concealedguns.org, they believe public safety should be left to professionally qualified
police officers, not to private citizens, with less or no training. Not everybody is capable of
handling a life or death situation while using firearms in a mature way, possibly allowing the
situation to escalate more then what it was in the beginning. For example if I was to be at the mall,

How Was The Steam Engine Used During The Industrial...
During the industrial era, the most important mechanism invented was the steam engine. This
machine was improved in 1764 by James Watt, a British inventor, allowing it to generate more
electricity. Although when the Industrial Revolution started around 1760, farming machines were
highly important such as the cotton gin. The steam enginebridged the gap between the north and the
south, allowing great technological advancements. In this instance, the steam engine was used in
steam boats, allowing people to travel with goods to the northern or southern states. This allowed
the southern states to become more agricultural with farming machines, and the northern states to
have more organic materials. In addition, until the steamboat was invented,

The Websites Of Toms Shoes And Apple Inc.
Introduction In this era of consumerism, it is important that any and all organization s websites
target their customers and are easily maneuverable. A website is a marketing tool that gives a
face to not only the product in which one is selling, but the organization itself. The common
theme to a great website, I have noticed, is simplicity. A simple website is easy to navigate and
has clear product descriptions, which is an important facet for keeping the attention span of their
targeted consumers. For this analysis, I will critique the websites of TOMS Shoes and Apple Inc.;
both very successful organizations that have seemed to master this art of simplicity for selling their
products. Let s take a look.
Body
TOMs Shoes, one of the most notable shoe retailers in the entire world, has a purpose behind the
selling of their phenomenal products; and it is quiet different than that of its competition. Shoes
for a better tomorrow is their mission statement, which is on the front page of their website,
Toms.com. Every time they sell a pair of shoes, a pair is given to a child in poverty whom is in
need of shoes. I chose to critique this organization s website solely because of this great mission
they serve, and the means by which they go about doing so. This organization was founded in 2006,
and has seen constant improvement ever since then. With much help from their website and great
marketing campaigns, the company has recently expanded to selling eyewear; with part of its

Three Sociological Perspectives
Throughout history various social perspectives have been observed in an attempt to explain and
classify different types of sociological behavior. Various theories have been made regarding the
sociological perspective, which examines the social contexts that people live in and how these
contexts effect the individual and society (Henslin 2). Each sociological perspective examines
something different and poses a different theory. Discussed here are three sociological
perspectives: the functionalist perspective, the conflict perspective and the feminist perspective.
All three perspectives are forms of social institutions or the ways that a society meets its basic
needs (Henslin 104). However all three perspectives give us quite different views... Show more

Published in a women s Studies Journal in December of 2015, Tracy Bowell explains this issue
by bringing to light the lack of women in almost every aspect of philosophy describing, .. three
connected, but different problems: the absence of women from the discipline of philosophy
[such as] teachers, researchers, the absence of women from the discipline [such as] its
discourses, the texts, debates, problems and the problem of the marginalization of feminist
philosophical work. She goes on to state, the nature of feminist philosophy has been seen as a
potential threat to philosophical core values. (Bowell 18). This is a perfect example of both anti
feminism and the conflict perspective. According to this article, women are still being treated
unequally and one has to just take a look at the entire field of philosophy both in its literature
and teaching in the classroom to see how. Bowell states females are being held in check by the
opposite sex as a seeming attempt to keep the balance of power tilted to the male side. This is
also seen as an act of preserving the social order by the continued absence of women from
philosophical texts, and imbalance of women philosophy teachers, and as women in philosophy
being seen as a threat to philosophical core values this is a great example of how the powerful or
privileged positions (in this case, the male gender in

Mangroves Essay
Methods and Predicted Outcomes for mangroves
Temporary plots are established for the purpose of above ground pool and soil carbon
measurements. The objects are for a single measurement of forest composition, structure and carbon
pools. In this study, a sampling design was adopted from Kauffman and Donato(2012)/Murdiyarso
et al(2009) to describe composition, biomass and ecosystem carbon pools. To assess the carbon
stocks, mangrove ecosystems were divided into two parts; above ground and below ground
components. In each sampled forest ecosystem, a transect arranged perpendicular from the river or
coast shoreline was established with no a priori knowledge of forest composition or structure. Six
plots were established along the transects at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the present study, six samples per site, with multiple depths collected at each point will be
conducted. It is recommended that when mangrove soils are deeper than 1m, at least the top 100cm
will be sampled(Kauffman and Donato 2012). At the sampling locations, organic matter will be
removed from the soil surface. And then PVC pipe will be steadily inserted vertically into the soil
until the top of the sampler was levelled with the soil surface. Then, the soil will be sampled at
depths of 0 15cm, 15 30cm, 30 50cm and 50 100cm in the present study. During sampling, to
archive the core, take a GPS recording of coring site and assign the site a unique label then
photograph the entire core from top to bottom and record changes that occur with depth. Photos
can be taken in the field once the core will be recovered and one of the splits will be cleaned.
Extend a tape measure along the core starting at the top end and document the split from top to
bottom (surface to depth) using detailed photographs of core image. Be sure to include the tap
measure in these images of the core. Place a label with the core ID so that is appears in all
photographs and identifies which direction is the top and bottom of the core and use a polarizing
filter to limit the light reflected off the wet surface of the core.

The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov
Anton Chekhov, like Henrik Ibsen, is considered a prominent writer on culture and society.
Chekhov s works are noteworthy, in part, because of the lives they portray. In The Cherry
Orchard, he writes of a world shackled by a caste system, and he exposes the need for reform. As
the title states, the play is set in a cherry orchard. The play revolves around an aristocratic family
and other minor characters, but the problem is the family is broke. Chekhov uses the symbolic
characters memories as a way to portray the servant , the aristocracy, merchant, and the
intelligentsia classes, four of the main cast of russian society during the early 1900s.
Madame Ranevsky declares, You people ought to go and see plays; you ought to try to see
yourselves; to see what dull life you lead, and how much too much you talk. (22) She is referring
to how she went to see a play and how it reflected her family and the minor characters. This quote
is significant because this is embodiment of what The Cherry Orchard tries to achieve. Chekhov
accomplishes this, using memory as a motif, to delve further into the symbolic characters and their
representation of the four main characters experiences, life struggles, and interactions with other
classes in Russian society in the early 1900s. The use of Firs memories lends the reader a sense of
the lost generation. Servants before the Liberation are named the lost generation because they
never experienced life beyond servitude. Firs says, I ve been

My Reflection Of Skype
Skype Reflection I will start by saying that our conversations with everyone over Skype has been
my favorite thing I have had the pleasure to do since I have been in college. It was different,
informative, intriguing, and easily the most interesting exchange I have ever had. I not only
appreciate having been given the opportunity to be a part of this conversation, but feel fortunate to
have taken part in learningabout others and their way of life. After speaking with Chris Saunders
and Panos and Stefania, I re read Hofstede s dimensions and felt I learned more and understood it
better after speaking with them. I feel that I can read something repeatedly, but having a good
example and seeing it first hand is the best learning experience I can have. To have a good take
away from the book with an even better example was the best way to learn this subject. When
speaking to Chris Saunders from Wales and England, I first noticed that he seemed as nervous as
we did. He was able to answer our questions with great content and was really funny. I felt that he
had a great amount of individuality and held true to his own beliefs. I also feel that Chris
showed that he fits into the masculinity dimension as he is successful as a writer and driven as
a teacher. Since he has moved around so much, he shows that he personally has a low
uncertainty avoidance, as he can take risks and is less resistant to change. An example of this is
he was able to move to China, not knowing much about the culture or the language and take the
changes as they came at him. When it came to talking to Chris, I think what surprised me the
most was that there is a gap between 16 and 18 from what we would call high school to college.
In the United States kids wouldn t know what to do with themselves and I can t imagine what
kind of trouble they would get into. It also surprised me that he has lived in so many places. He
has had the opportunity to learn so about so many cultures and meet so many people and that is
incredible. My impressions of Chris were that he is very intelligent and funny. He has a great
sense of what he wants in life and is able to accomplish those goals. Because of his individuality he
is able to make his own choices and do

Hawthorne was a nineteenth century American writer that was born in Massachusetts with a
Puritan Heritage. Born in Massachusetts on the Fourth of July, 1804, he was the descendant of
Puritan worthies and the son of a ship s captain who died at sea in 1808 (Gollin). Allegories are
portrayed in his writings to depict a vivid outlook of his moral themes. Many of his works
describe the human conscience and how it deals with guilt. Hawthorne s works describe his

As Georgiana drinks the potion it puts her into a deep sleep, but later on when her husband is
shouting at the heavens for his created perfection, it awakens her from her slumber. As she rises
up, to look in the mirror to notice the flaw has been demolished, she turns to Aylmer, You have
aimed loftily! you have done nobly! Do not repent, that, with so high and pure a feeling, you
have rejected the best that earth could offer. Aylmer dearest Aylmer I am dying
(Bayum,etc.Pg.429)! Georgiana s death is an allegory of guilt and innocence because her
husband was ugly on the inside and he picked at her because her flaw was on the outside only to
be more noticed. Aylmer failed to see his wife s purity and innocence because he could not look
past her birthmark. She died because the beauty in earth and humans is our imperfections.
Georgiana could not survived on earth because perfection could not exist here. It portrays how
human nature is to point out others flaws so that they are not looked upon for theirs. Georgiana
was the closest thing to perfect and Aylmer was incapable of accepting it, as he was bitter about
not being able to create a perfect world or woman and his obsession killed her. In Rappaccini s
Daughter Hawthorne wrote a story much like The Birthmark. It is based around a beautiful young
woman named Beatrice who was as pure at heart, but in the end was destroyed by someone trying
to enhance her by a potion. Giovanni Guasconti is a young

his statement, he has two important claims: the unexamined life and the excellence of human soul.
Socrates states that the unexamined life is not worth living , which means that the life without

ignorance. He talks about that people live in the unexamined life, For example, Socratescomes to

How Does Daisy Use Power In The Great Gatsby
In Fitzgerald s most profound novel, The Great Gatsby. The overall theme is how money and
power are the root of all evil. Fitzgerald creativity uses all the characters in The Great Gatsby to
illustrate how society can influence ones actions especially within the time period the novel
takes place in. He stresses Gatsby and Daisy s relationship and how the choices they make can
effect society and the people around them. A main example is how Daisy s decision effects her
fate in the novel, such as when she received a letter of hope from Gatsby on her wedding day,
she had a choice to change her entire life, yet she ended up choosing money over true love.
However she isn t ultimately to blame for this decision as the idea of money yielding happiness
is the driving force between Gatsby and all the other characters in Fitzgerald s novel, which
serves as a mirror for society during the roaring twenties. The movement of society is what people

The Shawshank Redemption And The Marriage Of Figaro
What does one imagine when viewing a comic opera? A ornamented opera house? Patrons dressed
in black tie apparel? However, would one imagine a comic opera playing in a maximum security
prison? Would uneducated prisoners appreciate the music? In The Shawshank Redemption both of
these events occurred. In The Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne plays an duet from Mozart s
comic opera, The Marriage to Figaro, as its Enlightened ideals represent Andy s prison experience
and its Classical characteristics evoke a sense of hope in the repressed prison. Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozarts The Marriage of Figaro reflects the social and musical influence of the Classical period.
Socially, The Marriage of Figaro reflects the ideals of the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was
was a period that saw the institutions of Europe religious, political, social, educational, industrial,
financial and artistic slowly but inexorably lower their focus from the ruling aristocratic and
clerical classes to a new class of people. For want of a better term, we call this new and rising class
of people the middle class (Greenberg Opera Buffa). The Enlightenment placed an emphasis on the
natural man or the common man, not just the aristocratic class (Kerman and Tomlinson Listen
153). Consequently, Mozart focused his comic operas on lower to middle class protagonists like
the servants Figaro and Susanna whose marital bliss is delayed by nobles ( Synopsis: Le Nozze di
Figaro The Metropolitan Opera). Another

Background
Homer s epic poem, the Iliad, first started as an oral storytelling tradition dating from about 1100
BC, after the Trojan war.
It is part of the great oral tradition of storytelling in the English language, of which Shakespeare
(the word bard is part of the tradition) and other famous writers are a part. The stories are of

Malouf tells stories within the story to illustrate the value of storytelling in looking at what it is to
be human, qualities such as grief, paternal love, fear, heroism, loyalty, pride, dignity, etc. He takes
a critical moment out of the Iliad and looks at universal human values and lessons to be learnt in
times of deprivation and loss.
There are a number of stories within the main story:
Priam/Peleus
Podacres/Hersione
Patroclus
Briesis
Beauty
Somax s family
Neotolemus
Cassandra
Hermes
Priam s sons
These all serve to illustrate both the power of storytelling and its importance in human life and the
meaning of the book, such as the nature of heroism and the role of chance in human life.
Mythic tales like the Iliad tend to ignore the smaller, detailed stories within it; the narrative sweeps
along in epic proportions and can be described as a saga. By structuring the story into five parts:
1. Achilles
2. Priam 3. The journey of Priam and Somax 4. Confrontation 5. Resolution and using very little
direct dialogue, Malouf concentrates on the human aspects of storytelling the people, and how they
influence their own lives. His highly descriptive, at times intimate and lyrical style gives us a
detailed understanding of and empathy for his characters and the choices they face. The narrator
plays the role of sympathiser and is, at times, omniscient in his observations and understanding.

significant threats in the arc welding product industry. Suppliers in the arc welding product industry
include all of the employees that make up a company. The suppliers can threaten performance,
quality, and production cost. The temporary competitive advantage that Lincoln Electric uses to
mitigate this threat is a valuable, (fairly) rare, (fairly) costly to imitate, organizationally competent

guarantees 75% employment forever. This program also exploits the opportunities associated with
the cost advantages in the mature and international industry through economies of scale. For
example, the learning curve illustration in figure 6.2 and equation 6.5 in chapter 6 of Barney

unit cost decreases. Due to the rapid change in industry demand, the threat of buyers quickly
becomes an issue. Without adequate supply, buyers are forced to move to new suppliers. This can

Mandatory Physical Education Research Paper
The number of obese children more than tripled since 1971. Physical education should be a
mandatory class, because at least one in three children in the U.S. are overweight or obese.
Obesity is causing a huge amount of health problems that previously weren t seen until
adulthood. If all children had PE class every day, it would help reduce the number of children
affected by obesity and children would develop a habit of daily physical exercise. Some health
problems obese kids are getting can be very serious. These include high blood pressure, type 2
diabetes and elevated blood pressure. Obese children commonly have a lower self esteem ,
negative body image and depression. Physical education is an essential part of growing and
learning, not just the physical part is takes a big roll on academic as well. Without Physical
education in schools, children would have trouble learning about other things such as math or

Agrigreen, Inc. has done a lot of moving employees from one position to another. Either

Lineberry had some education. The education that he had received was not enough to
demonstrate efficient and effective work at Agrigreen. He did well enough with his first
supervisor to accomplish the mission. Howard seems to be a man who needed direction and
guidance. Without the proper guidance, he was close to lost. As I compared his actions with his
first supervisor to his actions with his second supervisor I realized that there seemed to be a lack
of performance satisfaction. This dissatisfaction occurred as Howard was expected to do the
work on his own. He had little to no guidance in getting the tasks done. Although he perceived
that his first boss was a tough one, Howard got along well with him. He appreciated the guidance
and direction that was given. This was a form of daily training. He made an honest attempt to do
well on his own, but maybe his way of doing things were just different. Howard didn t fit into this
organizational culture. I will not say that Howard did not have any values but I will venture to say
that he did not share the same values and beliefs that many of the other workers shared. The
leaders and other employees were paying attention to work ethic and competence. If Howard is a

Formal organization:
Diagonal:
Diagonal communication cuts across different functions and level in organization. Diagonal
communication occurs between different officers who are at different level and who have different
commands. This type of communication work in tactical situation which require the quick advice
and suggestions. It is usually verbal.
Downward:
Downward communication means the information is sent from down to top that is from mangers

Informal organization:
Example: Since informal organisation occurs everywhere in organisation we can give a number
of examples for that. For example, if two employees whose habit it is to gossip and have their
perceptions of company affairs and personnel. They can do this on the job, at work, or after work.
Likewise there are cases where one member assists someone else in another department in solving
a work problem. Not only workers but also managers form informal way.

The Life of Daniel Defoe Essay
The Life of Daniel Defoe Daniel Defoe was easily one of the most influential and accomplished
English author/writer of all time. Not only is Daniel Defoe considered as the founder of the
English novel along with Samuel Richardson, but he was also a critical figure in European
journalism and political commentary. Defoe has produced as much as 200 works of non fiction
and 2,000 short essays in various periodical publications. In addition to over half a dozen full
length novels such as Robinson Crusoe, a tale of a shipwrecked sailor stranded on a remote
island. Defoe has done more than anyone else in his lifetime; he was a merchant, business owner,
soldier, editor, journalist, and writer. Much of his life he was oppressed because... Show more

Morton was a big influence to Defoe s style of writing, he can be seen as a character in later
works of Defoe. Even though Defoe s nonconformist father had always intended for him to go
into ministry, Defoe had decided that he did not wish to pursuit priesthood. Defoe jumped into
trade and politics and started to travel Europe working as a commission agent. Business with
trade seemed to occupy Defoe in his early 20s. He traveled around trading different items and
products such as stockings, wine, tobacco, and oysters. He even wrote many articles and essays
on economics and capitalistic theories. He was one of the very few people at that time with such
advanced ideas concerning the economy, and he was one of very few people to praise trade,
capitalism, and business in his time. But unfortunately even with all of his thought about
economics he went bankrupt in 1691. He made risky business maneuver to insure ships during a
war with France, this mistake put him ВЈ17,000 in debt. He was never able to fully recover from
this, even after paying off ВЈ12,000 of what he owed within 10 years. He was still haunted by his
debt for the rest of his of his life. In 1684 Defoe Married Mary Tuffley, a daughter of a merchant,
they went on to have 7 children.. In 1685 Defoe as a Dissenter joined Monmouth rebellion against
Catholic King James II. After the rebellion was put down Defoe was hiding in

Salvador Dali and Science Essay
Within the realm of Surrealism, more specifically the surrealist group, they contain works that are
overly subjective and involve definite notions to scientific observation of nature, as well as the
interpretations of dreams. Encapsulating the former ideas of Albert Einstein, there is a close
resemblance to theories that are at the very base of quantum mechanics. Upon further inspection,
Salvador Dali s artistic imagery and methodology, as well as AndrГ© Bretons, could be seen as
expressions of lucid subconsciousness. For example, AndrГ© Breton emphasized the necessity
understanding physics as a surrealist, in order to interpret or distort reality . Within Breton s Break

Dali hides this fact by stating that an individual s consciousness to be more important than the
reality of external time or experiences.
Surrealism would be the perfect language to describe the real world discovered by Einstein. This
can be confirmed upon further inspection, as Dali goes on to say in The Sanitary Goat that:
Physics in this case is the kind that once can believe in that one can believe or interpret, even
when it forms part of the delirium; the physics which must create with new geometry of thought
will be precisely...the delirium of paranoiac interpretation . Though his association of relativity and
paranoia here is a highly subjective suggestion. In the late 1930 s Dali conceptualizes a method he
called critical paranoia . Unbeknownst at the time, this methodology would eventually lead to his
expulsion from the surrealist group. Dali described critical paranoia as a spontaneous method of
irrational knowledge based on systematic objectification and fantasizing interpretations. The goals
was to allow his viewers to understand his works as delusional, but be set in a somewhat agreeable
clarity that made them seem realistic; at the same time place them in his delirium mind state or a,
systematic confusion and contribution to the complete discrediting of the world of reality.
Back in 1986, Henri Bergson theorized the subject of dual time: objective time, which is
determinate and measurable and subjective time formed on the

Human resources Riordan is currently upgrading the current business systems of each department.
Management has asked the human resources department to provide information for the current
department business systems and subsystems such as: the name of the system, how the systems
work together for that department, what information is contained in the system and what security is
used for that part of the system. The human resources department will research different business
software systems and provide information on a new and secure business software system that will
be needed to replace the current system.
Riordan is currently using an HRIS system that was installed in 1992 as part of a package system
that the financial department is using. The system uses data retrieved from specialized forms and a
subsystem of excel spreadsheets. The forms are used by managers and the employee relation
specialists. The forms used by managers include employees personal information, pay rate, tax
information, date hired, seniority date, vacation time, and organizational information. The

Whaling Persuasive Speech
Whales do not have our names on, so what makes people think it is acceptable to eat them, sell
them and use their skin for our pleasure. Whales belong to the order cetacea, this includes
porpoises, dolphins and whales. Whales are split into two different types being baleen and toothed
whales. Baleen are the largest species of whale.
With whales being the largest animals on planet, killing them is not an easy task with this
making many people more encouraged to kill. Whales breathe air into lungs like all animals and
are also warm blooded. They feed their young milk and have very little hair. Their tail fins also
known as flukes allow themselves to glide through the water. Most species of whales have a fin on

Supposedly, in Japan, the whales are killed for their meat for science however they were instead
being sold in food markets or even given away for free to hospitals and schools. This encourages
the consumption of whale meat. The Japanese kill many different types of whales for example,
200 minke whales, 100 sei whales, 50 bryde s and 10 sperm whales under scientific research.
There is also Norway, which didn t respect the IWC ban until 1993 as they continued hunting for
minke whales. Norway has a fixed number of whalers its whalers are permitted to kill for
commercial reasons. However, this number has rose from 671 in 2002, to more than 1,00 today.
Norway are currently hunting a higher amount of female minke whales in the North Atlantic
which could put their long term survival in severe danger. Iceland is another country which has
had and still does whaling. Like Japan, they conducted a scientific whaling programme and later it
withdrew from the IWC. Iceland later re joined in 2004 and they spoke out in the objection of the
whaling moratorium. Iceland targeted minke and fin whales when they continued with commercial
whaling in 2006. However in 2010, whalers from Iceland, also known as icelandic whalers killed
148 endangered fin whales and 60 minke whales. For countries such as Greenland, they have
historically been given an Aboriginal Whaling Quota by the IWC allowing them to

Success and Failure in Organizational Change
To cite this article: Bernard Burnes Philip Jackson (2011): Success and Failure In Organizational
Change: An Exploration of the Role of Values, Journal of Change Management,
ABSTRACT One of the most remarkable aspects of organizational change efforts is their low
success rate. There is substantial evidence that some 70% of all change initiatives fail. This article
explores the argument that a potentially significant reason for this is a lack of alignment
between the value system of the change intervention and of those members of an organization
undergoing the change. In order to test this assertion, the article begins by reviewing the change
literature with regard to the impact of values on success and failure. It then examines Graves ...

However, the problem with such explanations is that implicitly or explicitly they assume that
there is a one best way to manage change and that failure arises from not adhering to it (Burnes,
1996). Confusingly, there are quite a few one best way approaches to change (Collins, 1998; By,
2005). For example, Kanter (Kanter et al., 1992) offered her 10 commandments for successful
change, Pugh (1993) has his four principles of change and Kotter (1996) put forward his eight step
model. Two, however, have stood out from the rest. From the 1950s to the 1970s, organization
development (OD) tended to be seen as the best way to manage change (French and Bell, 1999;
Cummings and Worley, 2005). In the 1980s and 1990s, the emergent/processual approach came to
dominate the п¬Ѓeld, at least among academics (Dawson, 1994; Orlikowski, 1996; Weick, 2000).
Nevertheless, in recent years there has been a growing recognition that one or even two approaches
to change cannot cover the vast variety of change situations (Storey, 1992; Stickland, 1998;
Pettigrew, 2000; Burnes, 2009a). As Dunphy and Stace (1993, p. 905) argued:
. . . managers and consultants need a model of change that is essentially a situational or contingency
model, one that indicates how to vary change strategies to achieve optimum п¬Ѓt with the changing
environment.

History and Moral Development of Mental Health Treatment...
History and Moral Development of Mental Health Treatment and Involuntary Commitment The
history of involuntary commitment has been developed and created through the history of mental
illness and the constructs of society. Government policy has been created to treat mental illness
and this philosophy of mental illness and its treatment goes as far back as Greek Mythology. The
belief about mental illness has changed throughout history and at times thought to be due to,
possession of demons, reversion to an animalistic level of consciousness, a sinful state of the soul,
a chemical imbalance, and as reported recently in the medical journal Nature and Genetics, a defect

Hamilton, 1971). Hippocrates believed that mental illness had a physical and a rational explanation
and rejected the views of his time that considered illness to be caused by superstitions and by
possession of evil spirits. Additionally, he recommended that the treatment of mental illness should
be conducted in an asylum, a secure and safe retreat from the chaos and pressures of the
environment, rather than having persons with mental illness whipped in public, or incarcerated in
dungeons (Stevens, D. 1997). Soranus of Ephesus lived in the century 98 A.D. in Rome, and was a
physician of women and childbirth. Soranus believed that the human body is composed of atoms
constantly in motion. He theorized that disease was caused by a disturbance in these atoms. In light
of the recent discovery that schizophrenia might be caused by a defective chromosome number six,
Soranus view coincide with the latest findings on the possible causes of some mental illness
(Darton, K. 2000). Although, Soranus described mental illness as an organic disturbance, he treated
it by psychological methods, minimizing the use of drugs and other physical treatments. Treatments
included encouraging reading, entertainment, sea voyagers, etc. Soranus thought that the patient
should be engaged in intellectual activities not only for therapeutic purposes but to detect

economy is what takes us to an unpredictable future of our country because it might be a reason to

The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 Following the defeat of the Confederacy during the U.S. Civil
War, the Union Army occupied the South, known as the Reconstruction period. Tensions were high
as the North attempted to restore order and bring the southern states back into the fold. During the
presidential election of 1876, federal troops actively patrolled and monitored polling sites
throughout the South and many thought that their presence intimated Southern voters and swayed
the election (Spak et al., 2004). In response, the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 was enacted,
prohibiting U.S. military personnel from direct participation in law enforcement activities
(Matthews, 2014). While the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 prevents the U.S. military from
conducting law enforcement activities, it does not mention any constraints on the National Guard.

Competitive Grading Sabotages Good Teaching
I believe that competitive grading sabotages good teaching. From being a student, I know that
students do not enjoy a class where they know that their teacher is against them. When teachers
grade anything, they should point out mistakes; however, they should point out what is correct too
in order to encourage students. Teachers should not feel good about themselves when many
students fail an examination or do not do well on a paper; instead, they should realize that they
have not taught their students well. Many teacher see grades as a numbers game; for example,
they may not want to give away many As. However, if many students do work that is A material,
they may gradesome students harsher in order to keep their grade distribution consistent,

The Affordable Care Act ( Aca ) Essay
Introduction One of the goals of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to reduce healthcare
spending in the US (DeMichele, 2015). However, the passage of the ACA has spurred activity
that is counter to this goal of decreased spending in the form of increased hospital consolidation
which many studies show has led to higher prices. While, there are many other effects of hospital
consolidation such as the impact on quality of care or innovation, these topics are beyond the
scope of this paper. Why Consolidate? In the hope of better coordinating the care of patients,
improving quality and lowering costs, the ACA provides incentives for physicians and hospitals
to work together in several ways, such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACO s) or
establishing bundled payments for episodes of care (Martin Gaynor, 2012 ) which has spurred
consolidation (Becker, Gamble, Rosin, 2015). Additionally, compliance with various federal
programs such as Meaningful Use requires a significant investment in technology which can be
fiscally challenging for smaller provider groups; driving acquisitions of these smaller entities by
larger health systems. Other reasons cited by hospital administrators in the pursuit of
consolidation is to ensure a steady stream of physician referrals (NPR, 2010), and to create
economies of scale and increased efficiencies, the fruits of which result in reduced costs and
therefore cheaper care for patients (ProMarket Writers, 2016). However, what most hospital

Causes Child Labour
What are some of the causes of child labour?
Poverty and its related problems are the two main factors, which lead to the cause of child labour
around the world. They are both extreme dominant factors in the use of child labour as families on
or below the poverty line force their children into work to supplement their household s extremely
low income. Poverty around the world are due to population pressure, land degradation,
unemployment and underage employment. Other main causes of child labour is due to cultural
values. Some countries encourage children to work to develop skills and they are considered assets
to generate income in a time of poverty. Other, smaller reasons include education problems, over
crowding, and inability to support schools, various conflict, war, orphanhood and rapid urbanisation.

I can start with the fact that Apple Inc. is a vertically integrated company. It is a package of every
things from hardware to software, over to online services. It do all this to proof its products that
distinguish market from PCs to smartphones.
In this essay, I will discuss how Apple used vertical integration strategies, both backward integration
and forward integration to planning its competitive position within its industry.
First of all, vertical integration is when the company need to develop its business and expand it to
areas that are in different points on the same production channel like when a company owns its
supplier or distributer in order to get more control in a particular sector, as well as to increase

We can say Apple vertically integrated because its four companies in one, so all key parts of the
supply chain under its controlling. It s a hardware company because its designs its own
hardware, its software company because its own and developed its software such as iOS

unlike Samsung used Google s Android operating system in its cell phones.
Apple followed this approach, therefore all profit go to Apple and increase its income but also
there are disadvantages to this strategy when a company fails to keep their finances they are only
influence itself and that lead to loss more money.
Apple has followed both backward and forward integration for many reasons. To control its
manufacturing process of its hardware, to know its customers and to control innovation supply
chain. A backward integration target is to develop the inputs and that way give more control on
Apple s supply chain. Apple followed forward integration to increase its market share by changing
the method that following in distribution. For many reasons Apple decide to have own retail stores,

Gel Filtration Lab Report
Gel Filtration and SDS PAGE of a Mixture OBJECTIVE. I This Lab Report is an analysis of the
results of a two part experiment. In the first part, we used a gel filtration column to separate the
components of a mixture composed of protein and non protein molecules. By doing so we hoped
to obtain fractions that contained single components of the mixture, while also gaining insight
into the relative molecular weight of each component compared to each other. We would then
plot these fractions onto nitrocellulose paper in order to determine which fractions had protein.
In the second part, we would use the fractions which we had determined had protein to conduct
an SDS PAGE. By doing so we hoped to determine an estimate on the molecular weight of the
proteins present in each fraction by comparing it to a tracker dye composed of a variety of
molecules of differing molecular weight. METHODS. II In the gel filtration step, we began

Cash Transfer Programmes As A Means Of Reducing Poverty
Although a lot of literature has praised the cash transfer programmes as a means of reducing
poverty, there still remains a lot to be done in order to win the fight against poverty and
deprivation. Many developing countries are still characterized by harsh conditions as low or no
incomes, malnutrition, ill health, illiteracy and insecurity, among others. The impacts of these
barrages of factors could combine to perpetually keep individuals in the vicious cycle of povertyif
the right remedies are not put in place.
What this section of the paper seeks to do is to analyze cash transfer systems in some countries.
4.1 BOLSA FAMILIA BRAZIL
The Bolsa Familia Programme (BFP) was established in October 2003 by provisional measure
number 132, which was converted into Law 10.836 in 2004 . It consists of the integration of
existing conditional cash transfer programmes in Brazil, namely: Auxilio GГЎs, Bolsa
Alimentação, Cartão Alimentação and Bolsa Escola (Monica Viegas Andrade 2012).This
was done under the umbrella of a new Ministry of Social Development (MSD) (Cunha 2008).
The programme covers three essential dimensions to assist families in overcoming hunger and
poverty:
Direct income transfer to families;
Reinforcement of basic social rights in the areas of health and education, by obliging families to
comply with conditionalities;
Coordination of complementary programmes that support families in overcoming poverty.
The value of the benefits granted by the Bolsa FamГlia

Dress Code And Uniforms Code
Have you ever wondered why we have dress code and not uniform for the schools? In the current
society, all you see in the schools is a dress code. School that I attend has numerous problems
dealing with the dress code for the reason that particular students decided not to acknowledge it.
Couple of teachers has to take some time out of their teaching time to send the students to the office
for dressing inappropriately. Although they have various problems with the policy, schools remain
to enforce the dress codepolicy. Considering students cannot correctly follow the simple dress code,
schools should require students to wear uniforms. Few public schools in the Tennessee require
students to wear uniforms. In several countries, schools require students to wear uniforms. For
instance, the school that I went to in India required uniforms too. Public schools requiring students
to wear uniformwill give them a sense of identity, increase their academic performance in the
school, and reduce discrimination between the students.
Frist of all, uniform gives students sense of identity; it creates a feeling of oneness and belonging
to their school. If you gather a group of people and dress them all in a mutual way, they are likely
to develop a group identity and a group ethic that has nothing to do with their personal identity or
their individual perceptions of right and wrong. All the members of that cluster will put the equal
effort in the work. What sport players, cheerleaders, and

Little Bee Character Analysis
Humans react to extreme stress by creating different coping mechanisms; some become secluded
and avoid people, while others stay active in society with the facade of everything being alright.
In Chris Cleave s novel Little Bee, which tells the story of a refugee s quest (Little Bee) for a better
life in England after fleeing Nigeria; this facade took the form of an alter egoin which Charlie,
Sarah and Little Bee all adopt some change to how they act and present themselves to other people.
Charlie the youngest of the three characters experiences the most profound alter ego, but Sarah and
Little Bee have subtle alter egosthat are present at points of the novel. They all experience an
identity crisis brought on by different stressful events and people, which prompts the creation of
a new alter ego or facade as a way to avoid dealing with the problems they faced in their past, but
ultimately as the story went on the characters realize that they can t escape the past and they
need to accept what has occurred and face the baddies they are running from. Charlie is the
prime example of a character who has an alter ego, as he both literally dons a costume and
mentally identifies as Batman. Andrew s neglect of his family, due to his depression holding him
hostage, made Charlie take notice and want to try and fight his internal baddies, which are a
symbol of his depression. This created a hole in Charlie s character in which he attempts to use the
Batman persona to masque

Types And Types Of Insulin
1 INTRODUCTION
Pancreas, an organ that sits behind the stomach, releases hormones into the digestive system. In a
healthy body, when the glucose level gets too high, special cells in the pancreas called the beta
cells release Insulin. Insulin is a hormone which causes cells to take in the glucose and use it as
energy or store it as fat. Diabetes, a lifelong metabolism disorder causes high blood sugar levels.
There are three major types of Diabetes
1.Type 1 diabetes
It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells in pancreas resulting
in no or very little production of insulin in body. As a result, glucose builds up in the blood instead
of being used as energy. Type 1 diabetes generally develops in childhood or adolescence but can
also develop in adulthood. Type 1 diabetes has to be always treated with Insulin.
2.Type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body cannot properly use the insulin that is released in the body
or does not make enough insulin. It more often develops in adults. Type 2 diabetes may be
managed through physical activity and meal planning or may also require medications and/ or
insulin to control the blood glucose in body.
3.Gestational diabetes
It is a condition that women can get when they are in the second trimester of pregnancy. About 4
percent of all the pregnant women develop gestational diabetes. Unlike Type1 and Type 2 diabetes,
gestational diabetes may disappear after the baby is born.

The Secret Agent
Joseph Conrad s The Secret Agent is a before its time political masterpiece in the form of fictional
literature that grips the minds of an audience who may or may not have ever thought to question the
majority existence. After the occurrences of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, scholars,
educators, and the general public, in a desperate attempt to justify what was happening in the
United States, took notice of an otherwise buried great work. The terrorist theme in The Secret
Agent is initially straight forward to readers, but as the novelunravels with Conrad s immense use
of adjectives to describe the characters and setting of the story line, it becomes apparent that
Conrad s objective is to demonstrate social chaos as well as... Show more content on

On April 20th, 1999, two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, walked into their high school
and opened fire killing twelve fellow students, one teacher, and then finally themselves (Lamb). The
nation stood still. At that time, it was considered the deadliest school shooting in US history. After
the mourning and confusion opened way to questions, the students were closely examined and
people tried to make sense of why these two had planned for over a year to exterminate so many
innocent students and teachers. The Konformist, an anarchist website and blog, released statements
by Bill White of the Utopian Anarchist Party in response to the Columbine shootings. He stated
There is no ballot for young people, there is only the bullet. So it can be of no surprise today that
students have struck back with bullets and not through ineffective non violent civil disobedience (
Konformist ). White s salute to the two young men and their insurrection against the indoctrination
machine ( Konformist ), is in line with the notion that anarchism can be found in any rebellion
against the norm. Winnie, who lives her life to maintain a stable environment for her mentally
challenged brother, also manifests anarchy in a very different way. She revolts against her character
and in some ways against the role of the Victorian woman. Winnie momentarily breaks character
when she kills the man she is serving in return for stability. She becomes the novel s focused
anarchist. The only anarchist to correctly carry out such an extreme act to avenge her brother.
Literary reviewers such as Colas, suggests that Winnie failed her anarchist title when she took her
own life. He compares her to Satan as she shamefully begs Ossipon to care for her after murdering
Verloc (Colas). However, in the author s notes,

Cultural Diversity In Children
This resource allows children to broaden their understanding of cultural diversity and the
significance of maintaining equality. After children have read or listened to Whoever you are , it
is hoped that not only their language and literacy skills have strengthened, but also their
knowledge. It is crucial that children are introduced to this topic from an early age and are able to
discuss the differences of cultures, although focus primarily on what makes everyone the same.
Children will learn about respect, which is a key concept of cultural diversityand should be able to
utilize this attribute in their learning environment and everyday lives.
It is evident that this children s book acknowledges the importance of culture and home learning.
This is due to the fact that the author involves children from around the world and explains that
even though we all appear different, we are all the same. It is vital that children can learn in their
environment and feel safe, therefore encouraging equality will allow this to happen. Although it is
not a bilingual text, Whoever you are ensures that children can read in their environment and
discuss the meaning of cultural diversity with their family. The values that are interpreted from the
book such as respect can also be discussed within the family or at the kindergarten (Bredekamp,
2016).
Teaching and learning strategies
1. Picture talks is a learning tool that is utilized in early education and involves a teacher
displaying illustrations in a book or a photograph, then asking the children to observe and share
what they see. This learning experience will become of benefit to children when reading Whoever
you are because it will give them an opportunity to visualize and discuss the meaning of the picture,
which in this case illustrates diversity (Fellowes Oakley, 2014, pg. 113). The book contains pictures
of children from cultures and a globe with children surrounding it, which symbolizes equality.
2. Another learning tool that could be applied whilst reading this book is conducting a class
meeting, which will enable the children to gather together to discuss the importance of cultural
diversity and share their experiences, whether it be about their

Calpurnia Racism Quotes
Racism is a big problem in the world today. In the book To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, it
shows that you should treated colored people less than white people which is unacceptable. In the
book blacks are frowned upon in ways like losing their jobs, not walking in certain places, and
being accused of rape. Black peopleare paid less for the jobs that they do, which include working
for a white person or even doing little jobs that the white people are too lazy to do. I think that it
is wrong to make people feel lower than they are just because of their skin color. Aunt Alexandria
wanted to fire Calpurnia because of her skin color when all she does is help Atticus raise his kids.

strategy. This change from standard rate pricing to distance based pricing puts Airborne in a

Such new moves by both gorillas like companies may sweep the corners of the market described
by some industry analysts. For years, the industry set the prices without consideration of
distance, which means, a same sized letter from New York to New Jersey has the same cost as if
the letter is shipped to California from New York. In 1996, UPS officially moved to distance based
pricing, and Federal Express followed same action in 1997. There is no denying that what actions
Airborne take is significant affecting the development of the company, while facing this big change
in industry.
Section 2: The problem/Opportunity: Airborne Express has long differentiated itself in the
market by structuring itself as a big business only carrier. They have specialized in large unit
deliveries through metropolitan areas. Everything they do is aimed to optimize the delivery
process and slash cost where ever possible. However, Airborne is now faced with a huge
decision. They must decide whether to step away from their differentiation strategy to match the
new pricing tactics of the market UPS and FedEx or to continue the old norm of delivery pricing.
The new distance based pricing strategy threatens Airborne s consistent strategy to cut prices.
Clients will seek to ship packages at the lowest cost. The short distance deliveries will be ruled by
UPS and FedEx since they are the once who are

Choosing the Right Application of Multiple Intelligence...
Throughout the last fifty years, educators have debated what methods of teaching are most
effective. These methods include many extremes, from the more traditional method of teaching, in
which teachers lecture, students listen, and are expected to learn, to experiential education, which
usually requires students to take a hands on approach to every lesson. Both of these extreme
methods have too specific of an approach. A combination of learning styles, or multiple
intelligences, is required to teach successfully. The introduction of the multiple intelligencetheory

The second interpretation Gardner believes is effective involves educators encouraging children to
strengthen all of their intelligences. A school in Turkey bases its educational program on this
interpretation of the Multiple Intelligence Theory. Students from grades K 3 attend the Esentepe
School, which focuses on both enhancing and maintaining every child s strongest Multiple
Intelligence, and developing every child s weaker ones. This has helped educators create well
rounded students, who turn out to be learners who take in information more effectively then
students taught in a limited learning style such as lecture or experiential style. (Saban, 2002, p. 72).
The New City School, in Missouri also teaches with the goal of developing all seven multiple
intelligences as much as possible, in every student. They believe that the better rounded student

  • 2. Signs Of Edmund Evil There are many important signs which must be read carefully. Many pertain to what is good and what is evil. Many of the signs seem easy to read, but Edmund does not seem to be able to read them correctly. In this essay, I will discuss some of the more conventional signs and determine why Edmund has such difficulty. Almost all of the signs having to do with the witch seem to be ignored by Edmund. Her deathly pale skin and blood red lips are both signs that she is evil. The uncomfortable feeling that Edmund felt around the witch is a sign from inside of him that is ignored. The animals that were turned to stone are a sign of her evil misuse of power. Edmund does not read these signs correctly. Instead he justifies them to himself: All these ... • 3. Radio Frequency Identification Is Important For Airport... abrownBUS310_101615. Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) should implement radio frequency identification (RFID) tags in the airport s baggage handling operations for a variety of reasons. First, implementing this system will be beneficial to airport workers, travelers, and the airlines. Second, the cost of lost luggage fees and millions of dollars being spent in reimbursements will be significantly reduced. Third, the overall control of luggage will be more efficient and effective. Fourth, traveler satisfaction will improve, as the luggage process will be hassle free. In order for the RFID tagging system to properly function, it is important for the airport to make an effective plan. Planning which is, choosing a goal and developing a strategy to achieve that goal, (Williams, 2015, p.4) is an approach that will benefit all involved. In this case specifically, it will benefit the airport workers, travelers, and the airlines themselves. The amount of customer service representatives it takes to handle all aspects of the baggage process is very large. From customer service representatives taking complaints, to tracking and identifying lost luggage, you name it, it is imperative to have a staff member available at all times. Today s automated baggage handling systems play a critical role in alleviating the pressures played on ground support personnel and in helping them increase customer satisfaction (Heacock, 2005, p.1). With this, implementing RFID s in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. According To A Violence Policy Center Analysis Of News According to a Violence Policy Center analysis of news reports, concealed carry permit holders have killed at least 11 law enforcement officers and 319 private citizens since May 2007, 19 of these were mass shootings, and 27 murder suicides. I personally believe that individuals in America without a criminal record should not be able to carry a concealed weapon in public settings. Carrying a concealed weapon in public settings is automatically imposing a threat on those around you. It increases the chances of an altercation escalating and turning lethal and is portrayed as self defense . Giving individuals the right to carry a concealed weapon in public settings makes the ones without a weapon feel less safe, or intimidated at all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many rules and regulations that are made out to follow for those carrying these weapons. If a person were not emotionally or mentally stable, they would not be allowed to get a permit to carry the weapon with them. You cannot predict the future; an individual can be perfectly stable when purchasing a weapon, but further in time can possibly become unstable due to unforeseen circumstances. Due to these unforeseen circumstances it can make an individual do things that are out of character, which is keeping a gun in an concealed place while in public can be problematic. One person s personal problem can lead to taking the life of another, as described in the media, during mass shootings, or parking lot confrontations. The public safety in general should never be compromised under any circumstances. Public safety is the main concern to everybody, I want to feel safe when I am gone out to the mall, not always have the fear of something tragic happening due to someone else s silly mistake. According to an article on concealedguns.org, they believe public safety should be left to professionally qualified police officers, not to private citizens, with less or no training. Not everybody is capable of handling a life or death situation while using firearms in a mature way, possibly allowing the situation to escalate more then what it was in the beginning. For example if I was to be at the mall, and a random individual is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Was The Steam Engine Used During The Industrial... During the industrial era, the most important mechanism invented was the steam engine. This machine was improved in 1764 by James Watt, a British inventor, allowing it to generate more electricity. Although when the Industrial Revolution started around 1760, farming machines were highly important such as the cotton gin. The steam enginebridged the gap between the north and the south, allowing great technological advancements. In this instance, the steam engine was used in steam boats, allowing people to travel with goods to the northern or southern states. This allowed the southern states to become more agricultural with farming machines, and the northern states to have more organic materials. In addition, until the steamboat was invented, ... • 6. The Websites Of Toms Shoes And Apple Inc. Introduction In this era of consumerism, it is important that any and all organization s websites target their customers and are easily maneuverable. A website is a marketing tool that gives a face to not only the product in which one is selling, but the organization itself. The common theme to a great website, I have noticed, is simplicity. A simple website is easy to navigate and has clear product descriptions, which is an important facet for keeping the attention span of their targeted consumers. For this analysis, I will critique the websites of TOMS Shoes and Apple Inc.; both very successful organizations that have seemed to master this art of simplicity for selling their products. Let s take a look. Body TOMs Shoes, one of the most notable shoe retailers in the entire world, has a purpose behind the selling of their phenomenal products; and it is quiet different than that of its competition. Shoes for a better tomorrow is their mission statement, which is on the front page of their website, Toms.com. Every time they sell a pair of shoes, a pair is given to a child in poverty whom is in need of shoes. I chose to critique this organization s website solely because of this great mission they serve, and the means by which they go about doing so. This organization was founded in 2006, and has seen constant improvement ever since then. With much help from their website and great marketing campaigns, the company has recently expanded to selling eyewear; with part of its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Three Sociological Perspectives Throughout history various social perspectives have been observed in an attempt to explain and classify different types of sociological behavior. Various theories have been made regarding the sociological perspective, which examines the social contexts that people live in and how these contexts effect the individual and society (Henslin 2). Each sociological perspective examines something different and poses a different theory. Discussed here are three sociological perspectives: the functionalist perspective, the conflict perspective and the feminist perspective. All three perspectives are forms of social institutions or the ways that a society meets its basic needs (Henslin 104). However all three perspectives give us quite different views... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Published in a women s Studies Journal in December of 2015, Tracy Bowell explains this issue by bringing to light the lack of women in almost every aspect of philosophy describing, .. three connected, but different problems: the absence of women from the discipline of philosophy [such as] teachers, researchers, the absence of women from the discipline [such as] its discourses, the texts, debates, problems and the problem of the marginalization of feminist philosophical work. She goes on to state, the nature of feminist philosophy has been seen as a potential threat to philosophical core values. (Bowell 18). This is a perfect example of both anti feminism and the conflict perspective. According to this article, women are still being treated unequally and one has to just take a look at the entire field of philosophy both in its literature and teaching in the classroom to see how. Bowell states females are being held in check by the opposite sex as a seeming attempt to keep the balance of power tilted to the male side. This is also seen as an act of preserving the social order by the continued absence of women from philosophical texts, and imbalance of women philosophy teachers, and as women in philosophy being seen as a threat to philosophical core values this is a great example of how the powerful or privileged positions (in this case, the male gender in ... The objects are for a single measurement of forest composition, structure and carbon pools. In this study, a sampling design was adopted from Kauffman and Donato(2012)/Murdiyarso et al(2009) to describe composition, biomass and ecosystem carbon pools. To assess the carbon stocks, mangrove ecosystems were divided into two parts; above ground and below ground components. In the present study, six samples per site, with multiple depths collected at each point will be conducted. It is recommended that when mangrove soils are deeper than 1m, at least the top 100cm will be sampled(Kauffman and Donato 2012). At the sampling locations, organic matter will be removed from the soil surface. And then PVC pipe will be steadily inserted vertically into the soil until the top of the sampler was levelled with the soil surface. Then, the soil will be sampled at depths of 0 15cm, 15 30cm, 30 50cm and 50 100cm in the present study. During sampling, to archive the core, take a GPS recording of coring site and assign the site a unique label then photograph the entire core from top to bottom and record changes that occur with depth. Photos can be taken in the field once the core will be recovered and one of the splits will be cleaned. Extend a tape measure along the core starting at the top end and document the split from top to bottom (surface to depth) using detailed photographs of core image. Be sure to include the tap measure in these images of the core. Place a label with the core ID so that is appears in all photographs and identifies which direction is the top and bottom of the core and use a polarizing filter to limit the light reflected off the wet surface of the core. • 9. The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov Anton Chekhov, like Henrik Ibsen, is considered a prominent writer on culture and society. Chekhov s works are noteworthy, in part, because of the lives they portray. In The Cherry Orchard, he writes of a world shackled by a caste system, and he exposes the need for reform. As the title states, the play is set in a cherry orchard. The play revolves around an aristocratic family and other minor characters, but the problem is the family is broke. Chekhov uses the symbolic characters memories as a way to portray the servant , the aristocracy, merchant, and the intelligentsia classes, four of the main cast of russian society during the early 1900s. Madame Ranevsky declares, You people ought to go and see plays; you ought to try to see yourselves; to see what dull life you lead, and how much too much you talk. (22) She is referring to how she went to see a play and how it reflected her family and the minor characters. This quote is significant because this is embodiment of what The Cherry Orchard tries to achieve. Chekhov accomplishes this, using memory as a motif, to delve further into the symbolic characters and their representation of the four main characters experiences, life struggles, and interactions with other classes in Russian society in the early 1900s. The use of Firs memories lends the reader a sense of the lost generation. Servants before the Liberation are named the lost generation because they never experienced life beyond servitude. • 10. My Reflection Of Skype Skype Reflection I will start by saying that our conversations with everyone over Skype has been my favorite thing I have had the pleasure to do since I have been in college. It was different, informative, intriguing, and easily the most interesting exchange I have ever had. I not only appreciate having been given the opportunity to be a part of this conversation, but feel fortunate to have taken part in learningabout others and their way of life. After speaking with Chris Saunders and Panos and Stefania, I re read Hofstede s dimensions and felt I learned more and understood it better after speaking with them. I feel that I can read something repeatedly, but having a good example and seeing it first hand is the best learning experience I can have. To have a good take away from the book with an even better example was the best way to learn this subject. When speaking to Chris Saunders from Wales and England, I first noticed that he seemed as nervous as we did. He was able to answer our questions with great content and was really funny. I felt that he had a great amount of individuality and held true to his own beliefs. I also feel that Chris showed that he fits into the masculinity dimension as he is successful as a writer and driven as a teacher. Since he has moved around so much, he shows that he personally has a low uncertainty avoidance, as he can take risks and is less resistant to change. An example of this is he was able to move to China, not knowing much about the culture or the language and take the changes as they came at him. When it came to talking to Chris, I think what surprised me the most was that there is a gap between 16 and 18 from what we would call high school to college. In the United States kids wouldn t know what to do with themselves and I can t imagine what kind of trouble they would get into. It also surprised me that he has lived in so many places. He has had the opportunity to learn so about so many cultures and meet so many people and that is incredible. My impressions of Chris were that he is very intelligent and funny. He has a great sense of what he wants in life and is able to accomplish those goals. Because of his individuality he is able to make his own choices and do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sabrina Bullock Professor Erin Whitford American Literature I (409) 18 August 2013 (SumII) Grade: 88 Guilt vs. Innocence, Allegories, Puritanism in Nathaniel Hawthorne Nathaniel Hawthorne was a nineteenth century American writer that was born in Massachusetts with a Puritan Heritage. Born in Massachusetts on the Fourth of July, 1804, he was the descendant of Puritan worthies and the son of a ship s captain who died at sea in 1808 (Gollin). Allegories are portrayed in his writings to depict a vivid outlook of his moral themes. Many of his works describe the human conscience and how it deals with guilt. Do not repent, that, with so high and pure a feeling, you have rejected the best that earth could offer. Aylmer dearest Aylmer I am dying (Bayum,etc.Pg.429)! Georgiana s death is an allegory of guilt and innocence because her husband was ugly on the inside and he picked at her because her flaw was on the outside only to be more noticed. Aylmer failed to see his wife s purity and innocence because he could not look past her birthmark. She died because the beauty in earth and humans is our imperfections. Georgiana could not survived on earth because perfection could not exist here. It portrays how human nature is to point out others flaws so that they are not looked upon for theirs. Georgiana was the closest thing to perfect and Aylmer was incapable of accepting it, as he was bitter about not being able to create a perfect world or woman and his obsession killed her. In Rappaccini s Daughter Hawthorne wrote a story much like The Birthmark. He mentions that he is accused of being examining others and proving their ignorance. • 13. How Does Daisy Use Power In The Great Gatsby In Fitzgerald s most profound novel, The Great Gatsby. The overall theme is how money and power are the root of all evil. Fitzgerald creativity uses all the characters in The Great Gatsby to illustrate how society can influence ones actions especially within the time period the novel takes place in. He stresses Gatsby and Daisy s relationship and how the choices they make can effect society and the people around them. A main example is how Daisy s decision effects her fate in the novel, such as when she received a letter of hope from Gatsby on her wedding day, she had a choice to change her entire life, yet she ended up choosing money over true love. However she isn t ultimately to blame for this decision as the idea of money yielding happiness is the driving force between Gatsby and all the other characters in Fitzgerald s novel, which serves as a mirror for society during the roaring twenties. The movement of society is what people abide by in order to fit in and is the force between what... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne plays an duet from Mozart s comic opera, The Marriage to Figaro, as its Enlightened ideals represent Andy s prison experience and its Classical characteristics evoke a sense of hope in the repressed prison. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts The Marriage of Figaro reflects the social and musical influence of the Classical period. Socially, The Marriage of Figaro reflects the ideals of the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was was a period that saw the institutions of Europe religious, political, social, educational, industrial, financial and artistic slowly but inexorably lower their focus from the ruling aristocratic and clerical classes to a new class of people. For want of a better term, we call this new and rising class of people the middle class (Greenberg Opera Buffa). The Enlightenment placed an emphasis on the natural man or the common man, not just the aristocratic class (Kerman and Tomlinson Listen 153). Consequently, Mozart focused his comic operas on lower to middle class protagonists like the servants Figaro and Susanna whose marital bliss is delayed by nobles ( Synopsis: Le Nozze di Figaro The Metropolitan Opera). There are a number of stories within the main story: Priam/Peleus Podacres/Hersione Patroclus Briesis Beauty Somax s family Neotolemus Cassandra Hermes Priam s sons These all serve to illustrate both the power of storytelling and its importance in human life and the meaning of the book, such as the nature of heroism and the role of chance in human life. Mythic tales like the Iliad tend to ignore the smaller, detailed stories within it; the narrative sweeps along in epic proportions and can be described as a saga. By structuring the story into five parts: 1. Achilles 2. Priam 3. The journey of Priam and Somax 4. Confrontation 5. However, the problem with such explanations is that implicitly or explicitly they assume that there is a one best way to manage change and that failure arises from not adhering to it (Burnes, 1996). Confusingly, there are quite a few one best way approaches to change (Collins, 1998; By, 2005). For example, Kanter (Kanter et al., 1992) offered her 10 commandments for successful change, Pugh (1993) has his four principles of change and Kotter (1996) put forward his eight step model. Two, however, have stood out from the rest. From the 1950s to the 1970s, organization development (OD) tended to be seen as the best way to manage change (French and Bell, 1999; Cummings and Worley, 2005). In the 1980s and 1990s, the emergent/processual approach came to dominate the п¬Ѓeld, at least among academics (Dawson, 1994; Orlikowski, 1996; Weick, 2000). When teachers grade anything, they should point out mistakes; however, they should point out what is correct too in order to encourage students. Teachers should not feel good about themselves when many students fail an examination or do not do well on a paper; instead, they should realize that they have not taught their students well. Many teacher see grades as a numbers game; for example, they may not want to give away many As. However, if many students do work that is A material, they may gradesome students harsher in order to keep their grade distribution consistent, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Affordable Care Act ( Aca ) Essay Introduction One of the goals of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to reduce healthcare spending in the US (DeMichele, 2015). However, the passage of the ACA has spurred activity that is counter to this goal of decreased spending in the form of increased hospital consolidation which many studies show has led to higher prices. While, there are many other effects of hospital consolidation such as the impact on quality of care or innovation, these topics are beyond the scope of this paper. Why Consolidate? In the hope of better coordinating the care of patients, improving quality and lowering costs, the ACA provides incentives for physicians and hospitals to work together in several ways, such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACO s) or establishing bundled payments for episodes of care (Martin Gaynor, 2012 ) which has spurred consolidation (Becker, Gamble, Rosin, 2015). Additionally, compliance with various federal programs such as Meaningful Use requires a significant investment in technology which can be fiscally challenging for smaller provider groups; driving acquisitions of these smaller entities by larger health systems. Other reasons cited by hospital administrators in the pursuit of consolidation is to ensure a steady stream of physician referrals (NPR, 2010), and to create economies of scale and increased efficiencies, the fruits of which result in reduced costs and therefore cheaper care for patients (ProMarket Writers, 2016). However, what most hospital ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Gel Filtration Lab Report Gel Filtration and SDS PAGE of a Mixture OBJECTIVE. I This Lab Report is an analysis of the results of a two part experiment. In the first part, we used a gel filtration column to separate the components of a mixture composed of protein and non protein molecules. By doing so we hoped to obtain fractions that contained single components of the mixture, while also gaining insight into the relative molecular weight of each component compared to each other. We would then plot these fractions onto nitrocellulose paper in order to determine which fractions had protein. In the second part, we would use the fractions which we had determined had protein to conduct an SDS PAGE. By doing so we hoped to determine an estimate on the molecular weight of the proteins present in each fraction by comparing it to a tracker dye composed of a variety of molecules of differing molecular weight. METHODS. II In the gel filtration step, we began with a slurry of Bio Gel P 100 beads suspended in 20 mM phosphate buffer (Equilibration buffer) and an upright column with a stopcock. We added enough of the Bio Gel P 100 beads to the column until we reached a height of 4.7 cm, making sure not to allow the column to run dry and that the top of the beads column is flat. We then added the sample, a mixture of Blue Dextran (2 mg/ml, 2 MDa), Hemoglobin (2 mg/ml), Bovine Serum Albumin (2 mg/ml), and Yellow Food Coloring (5 Ојl/ml, ~500 Da) (Sheffield, 37). School that I attend has numerous problems dealing with the dress code for the reason that particular students decided not to acknowledge it. Couple of teachers has to take some time out of their teaching time to send the students to the office for dressing inappropriately. Although they have various problems with the policy, schools remain to enforce the dress codepolicy. Considering students cannot correctly follow the simple dress code, schools should require students to wear uniforms. Few public schools in the Tennessee require students to wear uniforms. In several countries, schools require students to wear uniforms. For instance, the school that I went to in India required uniforms too. Public schools requiring students to wear uniformwill give them a sense of identity, increase their academic performance in the school, and reduce discrimination between the students. Frist of all, uniform gives students sense of identity; it creates a feeling of oneness and belonging to their school. If you gather a group of people and dress them all in a mutual way, they are likely to develop a group identity and a group ethic that has nothing to do with their personal identity or their individual perceptions of right and wrong. In Chris Cleave s novel Little Bee, which tells the story of a refugee s quest (Little Bee) for a better life in England after fleeing Nigeria; this facade took the form of an alter egoin which Charlie, Sarah and Little Bee all adopt some change to how they act and present themselves to other people. • 46. Types And Types Of Insulin 1 INTRODUCTION Pancreas, an organ that sits behind the stomach, releases hormones into the digestive system. In a healthy body, when the glucose level gets too high, special cells in the pancreas called the beta cells release Insulin. Insulin is a hormone which causes cells to take in the glucose and use it as energy or store it as fat. Diabetes, a lifelong metabolism disorder causes high blood sugar levels. There are three major types of Diabetes 1.Type 1 diabetes It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells in pancreas resulting in no or very little production of insulin in body. As a result, glucose builds up in the blood instead of being used as energy. Type 1 diabetes generally develops in childhood or adolescence but can also develop in adulthood. Type 1 diabetes has to be always treated with Insulin. 2.Type 2 diabetes Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body cannot properly use the insulin that is released in the body or does not make enough insulin. It more often develops in adults. Type 2 diabetes may be managed through physical activity and meal planning or may also require medications and/ or insulin to control the blood glucose in body. 3.Gestational diabetes It is a condition that women can get when they are in the second trimester of pregnancy. The nation stood still. At that time, it was considered the deadliest school shooting in US history. After the mourning and confusion opened way to questions, the students were closely examined and people tried to make sense of why these two had planned for over a year to exterminate so many innocent students and teachers. The Konformist, an anarchist website and blog, released statements by Bill White of the Utopian Anarchist Party in response to the Columbine shootings. He stated There is no ballot for young people, there is only the bullet. So it can be of no surprise today that students have struck back with bullets and not through ineffective non violent civil disobedience ( Konformist ). White s salute to the two young men and their insurrection against the indoctrination machine ( Konformist ), is in line with the notion that anarchism can be found in any rebellion against the norm.
