Police Officer, Martin Mcfadden
On October 31st, 1963, in Cleveland, Ohio, Officer Martin McFadden observed two men standing
outside a storefront acting suspiciously. He watched one of the men walk down the street pausing to
look in a store window. At the end of the street the man turned around and proceeded to walk back,
pausing at the same store window as on his way down. Upon reaching the other man, the two mingled
and talked to each other. Officer McFadden witnessed these men do this several times. Officer
McFadden concerned the men were casing a job , then followed the two men, and watched as they met
up in front of Zucker s Store. At this point, Officer McFadden walked up to the men, identified
himself as a police officer, and asked for their names. He asked the first man, Terry to turn around. He
frisked him, and, feeling a pistol frame inside Terry s overcoat, ordered the men into the store. Terry
and Chilton were charged with possession of a concealed weapon, and were each sentenced to three
years in prison. The arrest of Terry set in motion a series of lower court cases that ultimately led to the
landmark Supreme Court case that addressed the Fourth Amendment right against unreasonable
searches and seizures. The United States Supreme Court decided the case of Terry v. Ohio on June 10,
1968. The question that arises in the Terry v. Ohio case has to do with the Fourth Amendment,
specifically the line the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects,

Billie Holiday Essay
Billie Holiday, whose real name is Eleanora Gough, was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 1915.
She grew up mostly in Baltimore and always loved jazz. Billie was born to very young parents. Her
mother was thirteen when she was born and her father just fifteen. (www.numberonestars.com, 2010)
Her father made his living as a jazz musician and later he left Billie s mother. Billie was raised by her
mother and grandparents. Billie was not a happy child and eventually left school at an early age. It
was rumored that she became a prostitute like her mother. (www.numberonestars.com, 2010) Her
relationship with her father was not a loving one. Clarence Holiday was hardly ever around.

Billie went through years of hard drug and alcohol use mixed in with bad relationships.
(www.numberonestars.com, 2010) It is said that this hard lifestyle began to affect her work. Her songs
were no longer filled with youthful emotions, but a sort of bitter regret. Even with the change in her
music still had a great impact on other artists of her time and later. (www.numberonestars.com, 2010)
At the end of her life Billie s personal life and career suffered. She didn t have a cabaret card which is
what was needed to work in New York City clubs at the time. She had no many in her bank account
because she was cheated out of it. While she was dying she was arrested due to her heroin addiction.
(www.numberonestars.com, 2010) The relationships that Billie engaged in were almost as bad as her
heroin addiction. She was married to Jimmy Monroe, but separated from him and briefly had an affair
with a trumpeter. She finally divorced her husband and left the trumpeter only to take up with a man
thought to be an enforcer for the mob. Louis McKay was no better than the rest, but tried to get Billie
clean. When Billie died they weren t even together. (www.numberonestars.com, 2010) When I begin

Analysis Of Tea Cake In Their Eyes Were Watching God
In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Tea Cake proves to be affectionate but reckless. Together these
traits create a flawed character. Janie has already developed an increasing proud sense of self, but Tea
Cake furthers her spiritual growth and fulfillment. Instead of stifling her voice he supports it, allowing
her to be herself in a relationship, opening her eyes to new experiences and life skills. Tea Cake s
character and personality cause Janie to learn things about herself she never knew in her marriages to
Logan nor Joe. As said in the novel, So the very next morning Janie got ready to pick beans along with
Tea Cake. There was a suppressed murmur when she picked up a basket and went to work... But all
day long the romping and playing they carried on behind the boss s back made her popular right away.
It got the whole field to playing off and on. Then Tea Cake would help get supper afterwards (Hurston
157). This proves that Tea Cake is affectionate by giving Janie the choice/option of working beside
him, he doesn t instruct her to do so, showing that he really cares about her overall happiness. This is
something different for Janie because throughout her previous marriages she is made to do things.
This gives Janie a sense of equality and independence. However, Tea Cake is reckless as well, in the
novel, it states, He took it up and looked at it of curiosity and put it in his pocket to count it while he
was out finding some fish to fry. When he found out how much

Systemic Review
Appraisal of Systemic Review
Healthcare workers, especially nurses, have for ultimate goal to provide the best care possible for
patients. Caring for patients does not only include making sure that they are safe and well taking care
of but it also requires for nurses to act as patients advocate and ensure that the best methods are used
to provide care. Nurses contribute to ensuring that the patients are as comfortable as possible and help
prevent or reduce pain as much as they can (Dearholt. Dang, 2012, p. 12P). People have a different
reaction to pain. For some patients being pain free might be one their ultimate goal while they are in
the hospital and if a nurse can help achieve that goal that will significantly contribute in making the ...

This rating scale is used to determine whether or not research is worth putting into practice. During
the appraisal of research, there is a different level of evidence that is taking into consideration. There
is three quality rating with five different categories. The quality rating is graded from high, good, and
low or major flaw level of evidence. A high quality research requires the study to be well structured
and organized with all the necessary elements and definite conclusion. Research is considered good
when the result is within normal limits and the conclusion although not conclusive can lead to more
research. Lastly, a low quality rating did not provide much information and stayed inconclusive
(Dearholt. Dang, 2012, p. 12P). There is five level of evidence in which research can fall under. The
level is from I to V. the level I includes all systematic review researches that are experimental with a
randomized controlled trial. These researches might be randomized with or without meta analysis.
Level II includes all the systematic review that are quasi experimental studies. These researches might

Stricter Laws On Sex Offenders Essay
Enforcing stricter laws on sex offenders will ensure better protection for the people of America. The
laws of sex offenders have evolved due to the high number of sexual offenses that could have been
prevented if the sanctions of sex violators were stricter or at least had underwent some rehabilitation.
Warning people about the level of crimes in the area. In argument, laws have been effective in
reducing rate of sexual offenses and increased public safety of the residents. In 1986, a tragic
unexpectedly occurred when a 19 years old freshman college student, Jeanne Clery, was raped and
murdered at her school. The incident had led her parents and other supporters of the law (now known
as Clery Act) to complain that the school was not doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A public tragedy often leads to measures being taken to avoid similar tragic events in the future. In
2006, proposition #83 was officially passed by 70% of California voters for the protection of children
from repeat sex offenders who had been convicted before. The story behind why the proposition # 83
was originally passed is also a another tragic. Jessica Lunsford, only nine years old, was kidnapped,
raped, and murdered by a convicted sex offender named John Couey who was not under the police
surveillance and he had relapsed into the same criminal behavior, after receiving sanctions that was
not strict enough. Stricter sanctions could had hold him still in jail. If he received rehabilitation, the
chances of him relapsing into the crime would had been lower according to the data showing a
reduction in recidivism therapy. According to Weinrott Blackshaw (1989), the recidivism rates for
offenders who were treated were reduced compared to recidivism rates for offenders who were not
treated. With better police surveillance, the crime could have been prevented if the sex offender was
on guard and on lifetime global positioning (prop 83). After proposition was passed, officers are now
ordered to keep track of sex offenders and they are forbidden from entering in areas near schools and
parks where kids are usually present. It also increased the penalties for repeated sex offenders.
Because of this new law, children are now better protected from sex

British Flag Informative Speech
The flag has many rumors, myths, and legends surrounding it, and I would like to clear some of them
up. I believe that the United States is the best country in the world, and it shows by the beacon of hope
that flag represents. The very first flag of the United States was called the Grand Union, and it was
flown for about a year. Instead of stars in the left corner, there was the crosses on the British flag, and
it still had the 13 stripes in honor of the colonies. The flag was probably made this way as the design
is easy to make, being only stripes and a British flag. It is believed that this flag was flown in 1776 on
New Year s Eve on Prospect Hill in Charlestown by George Washington s army. The design we are

La Sagrada Familia ( The Expiratory Church Of The Holy Family
In 1884, Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí began work on La Sagrada Família (the Expiratory Church of
the Holy Family,) a Catholic cathedral in Barcelona, Spain. What began as a modest Gothic Revival
design by fellow architect Francisco de Paula del Villar transformed, under Gaudi s direction, into a
massive monument to Catholicism, Catalonia, and the city of Barcelona. Neither of the Gothic
tradition nor Catalan Modernisme, La Sagrada Familia is known for its striking individuality at the
turn of the twentieth century. as well as its enormous scale and plethora of motifs. While many people
abhore the intense decoration and towering height, (people have obviously also thought it worthwhile
because the building is still under meticulous construction to this very day and completion is
anticipated in 2020, marking 140 years of construction.) Gaudi did not mind that the construction
would last beyond his death because, when given the extent of his efforts, La Sagrada Familia became
a vessel through which Gaudi could finally build to fruition the architectural conceptions he had been
developing with previous projects. Throughout his career , Gaudi strove to imbue his architecture with
a sense of life, and he was able to do this through geometry. [1] Meticulous calculations allowed
Gaudi to translate this inspiration into architectural experiences. La Sagrada Familia was [Gaudi s

The Isolation Of Women During The Victorian Era
1.This quote goes back to the concept of isolation and independence. Here just like in the beginning of
the book, Jane feels isolated and alone and feels like no one can help and ironically it is her cousins
who alienated her to begin with but now are bringing her in.
2. Another clear reference to gender equality and the lack of it as well as a comment on class roles.
Here Bronte shows the absurdity of gender restriction and attempts to shed light on the fact that
women during the Victorian era had no rights and were too restricted.

it pass round my shoulder: being so much lower of stature than he, I served both for his prop and

2. Reader, I married him. (Bronte 521).
1. This quote shows how while before Mr. Rochester used to lead Jane when Jane was metaphorically
blind and used to support her, the opposite has just happened and now Jane leads the actually blind

2. Bronte addresses the reader personally which signifies that something important is about to happen,
and it does. Jane and Mr. Rochester have switched roles. Jane now can see while now Rochester can t.
This perfect role reversal emphasizes how it is possible to reach gender equality and how someone

Trust in Military Essay
TRUST IN THE MILITARY
What is one of the most important elements used in relation building in the military? Trust, personal
growth from friendships becomes challenging without the presents of this crucial element. Without
trust, individual s confidence in all echelons of leadership and their subordinates ability to complete
missions would diminish a unit s morale and loyalty. Friendships are constructed over time through
the innuendo of mutual trust. Time is the only factor that gains trust and cannot be expected or granted
to. There are plenty of circumstances where the absence of trust was the misnomer for failure in
relationships. We can place trust at the highest point in the pyramid of morals, but how do ... Show

The civilian populous security awareness increases when the military is present. When every soldier
takes his oath to the Constitution, we as soldiers accepted the responsibility to protect and serve the
people. The United States entrusts soldiers with the power to use deadly force while respecting the
sanctity of life at the same time. Most people do not comprehend how vital trust is; it is at the same
level as faith. The absence of trust puts personal lives and jobs at risk. The Military places trust in the
civilian population when they contract them to aid the Soldiers on their daily task and building most of
their weaponry, vehicles, ships and aircraft. All leadership should trust their subordinates when
executing a task. Ensuring Soldiers do their job while implementing military standards without
supervision is fundamental. Subordinates should trust us to make the sound judgments that will bring
them home to their loved ones. Knowing that we can count on each other brings the confidence we
need to stay focused on the mission, increasing abilities to make right decisions in stressful situations
where a second can determine life or death on the battlefield. Learning how to let go could seemingly
be one of the hardest skills to master. If leaders don t trust their subordinates it can be interpreted as
micro management, these leaders will do all the work. Leaving no room for their subordinates to

Symbolism In Through The Tunnel By Doris Lessing
A part of maturing is finally doing things independently without the supervision from parents. In her
short story, Through the Tunnel , Doris Lessing conveys the concept of maturing through becoming
self sufficient. Lessing uses characterization and symbolism to show that being self reliant is a part of
growing up. The symbolism of the color brown and the struggle of Jerry going through the tunnel
represents the signs of maturity. Jerry describes the boys as having burned smooth dark brown skin. In
Jerry s point of view, they are described as big boys, men, to Jerry . The two quotes associate the
brown skin with being older and mature. In the time span between Jerry seeing the boys and Jerry and
his mother leaving the beach, he trains himself to swim through the tunnel in order to be like the big
boys. Jerry suffers through many hardships in order to pass through the tunnel and he does it all by
himself without his mom or anyone to help him. Swimming through the tunnel is like the transition
from an immature child to a sophisticated, young adult. After Jerry swims through the tunnel all by
himself, it is said that his mother puts her hand on his warm brown shoulder . Describing Jerry s
shoulder as brown shows that Jerry is now like the older boys. The symbolism of the brown skin
emphasizes the maturity of Jerry, and the symbolism of the tunnel emphasizes that becoming a young
adult is a journey one has to go through on his or her own and with a lot of struggling on the way. The
effect of the symbolism illustrates that growing up will include some hard times, but it is worth it in
the end because people know that they can do things on their own now.
The characterization of Jerry illustrates the stages of maturing and becoming independent. In the
beginning of the story, Jerry is depicted as young and immature. The immaturity of Jerry is shown
when he is trying to capture the older boys attention. In order to capture their attention, he began
splashing and kicking in the water like a foolish dog. This action conveys that Jerry is still immature,
and wants to join the older kids. After seeing the boys pass through the tunnel, Jerry also wants to pass
through in order to be a part of their group. In order

Export And Demand Of Goods
Tariffs are sorts of taxes on imported and exported goods. It could affect the supply and demand of the
merchandise. It started thousands of years ago when different countries merchants exchanged goods
with each other. Governments who use tariffs to protect the local economy and national benefits play
an important role in trading until now. It is a useful tool for governments to negotiate with other
countries on diplomacy. However, tariffs become barriers to globalisation and it can have negative
effect on domestic economy and industries. Today, with the globalisation, each country may still
consider to protect their local economy first instead of removing tariffs from imported products.

If local company product not as good as imported products, civilian may buy imported products. It
would decrease the demand for local goods, which mean local brands might be broke up. According to
Baghdasaryan D. and Žigić K (2010), government tariffs target is preventing imported products to
have higher competitive position than internal products. Furthermore, tariffs could protect domestic
industry. Therefore, government applies a tax to increase the price of imported goods for helping
regional brands to survive in the market. Additionally, some countries tend to open market in
worldwide after they regard that their economic would not have obvious affect from other countries
especially developed countries, they require their products to have same treatment in other countries,
this requirement not only benefit to the exported countries industry but also may offer well known
product to the world. Gene, Joel and Chantal (2009) claims that, in the World Trade Organisation
(WTO), countries should obligate the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trades (GATT), but the
people of developing country doubt that GATT and WTO could benefit to their own country because
the organisation was held by industrialised countries. The successful case like India and China who
have joined the WTO after they dismiss tariffs barrier. So, tariffs, in most case, effect imported goods

A Thousand Peaks Vs. The Maids Of Honor
At first glance, the 17th century paintings of the Baroque period, India, and China may not have much
in common, but upon closer inspection there are relationships and divergences to consider beyond the
surface. These details can be seen between Bichitr s Jahangir Preferring a Sufi Shaykh to Kings, Wang
Hui s A Thousand Peaks and Myriad Ravines, and Diego Velázquez s Las Meninas (The Maids of
Honor). While each carries the style of its own location of origin, they all showcase influence and
subject matter similarities and differences worth making note of, most specifically the presence of
duality in focus within the paintings.

(Sullivan).
The third of the paintings stemming from the Baroque period done by Velázquez is one of his many
works for the court, setting the tone in the particular area, while not extending much further (49,
Bazin). The court employing Velázquez was that of King Philip IV, with the focus of this painting
being the king s daughter. This particular piece has not only the artist himself depicted, the children of
the court scattered about, but also a mirror in the back showing the King and Queen standing as the
painter is depicted to be painting their portrait. Each point of attention draws way from the former,
then pushing to the next in a cycle of focus. Once Velázquez started using almost strictly the style of
portraits, he mastered the art using the available means to the fullest. The painting at hand in particular
uses his mastery of portraiture to the fullest in varying who is being painted and their positions on the
canvas (59 60, Bazin).
Each painting draws influence from their individual location of origin, mostly in subject, to appeal to
the patrons of the time. While each piece was created within the 17th century, there are obvious
differences from place to place in how they were meant to be created. This is evident in the materials
used for the paintings, Velázquez s piece being oil on canvas, Hui s being a hanging scroll consisting
of ink on paper, and

Estelle! I squealed, stepping out of my car onto the dewy grass.
Before me loomed the old observatory which would be our home for the next year. Its walls were an

observatory looked like a forgotten castle, waiting for the next rulers to occupy it.
The building had been boarded up since the thirties, when its owner, Henrick En Thanatos whom the

The Reading And Writing Connection
Reading and writing have many connections when it comes to everyday life and school. Students
would do better with by both reading and writing being taught together instead of separately rather
than being taught as two separate lessons. The article lists and discuss multiple ways for teachers to
integrate both reading and writing into their lessons. The article The Reading and Writing connection:
Merging Two Reciprocal Content Areas discuss the connection of reading and writing. It also
discusses the integration of the two can help struggling readers as well.
In today s classrooms they are integrating reading and writing in the same lessons, before they would
have separate lessons one with reading and the other with writing. In the article The Reading and
Writing connection: Merging Two Reciprocal Content Areas they talked about have designated times
for each lesson and when that time passed they moved onto the next subject. When not having the
connections between lessons it causes a divide where students cannot make the connections

This would include reading and writing. Students will have to read what their pen pal sent but they
will also have to create a response to that person as well. Another way that the article said we could
implement the reading section is trying to collaborate pen pals with similar literary interest and have
them read the same book. This gives them something to also write about and discuss what they read.
Reading and writing connection is the most important part of education, I believe. Every subject will
have to deal with reading and writing. For students to really understand the reading and writing
connection they must allow students to make choices in what they are reading and enjoy the projects
that they will incorporate. If there are not authentic reading writing connections many students will

Compare And Contrast Dunkin Donuts And Substitutes
xi). Substitutes are two goods for which an increase in the price of one leads to an increase in demand
for the other. An example of substitutes is Coca Cola and Pepsi because as the price of Coca Cola, the
demand for Pepsi will go up. Complements are two goods for which an increase in the price of one
leads to a decrease in the demand for the other. An example of complements is coffee vs donuts
because as the price of coffee goes, the demand for donuts will go down.
Both substitutes and complements affect the cross elasticity of demand, which is a measure of how
much the quantity demanded of one good responds to a change in price of another good, computed as
the percentage change in quantity demanded of the first good divided by the percentage change in
price of the second good. Substitutes cause a positive relationship, while complements cause a
negative relationship.
Dunkin Donuts is a real world example of how a change in price to a complementary goods affects
demand. While Dunkin Donuts itself could be considered a substitute for Starbucks, its products are
complements for each other. Dunkin Donuts has to be wary that their price increase in one products
will not hurts sales for another.

Creation, Rebellion, And Fall
The Bible contains sixty six books, written by approximately forty authors, over the course of two
thousand years. God created and loves humans despite their rebellious attitude towards Him, and God
wants to reunite humans to Himself (Poythress, 2008). The Bible is a record of the sinful rebellion of
humans and it still declares God s love for humanity through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ.
This foundation prepares the way for Jesus Christ to fulfill God s entire promised covenants. Creation,
Rebellion, and Fall (4004 2234 BC) In six days God created the universe, the earth, and every living
thing on it. This includes human beings, who were made in Gods own image. God created Adam and
Eve to have an unobstructed relationship with him, He placed them in a paradise called the Garden of
Eden and gave them freedom to live in friendship and trust with him. God saw that everything he
created was good and He rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2). God left Adam and Eve in the

Domestic Violence Effects On Children Essay
Domestic violence affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men (NCADV, 2015). Although the devastating
effects that domestic violence has on women are well known, there is a population of domestic
violence victims that we tend to overlook. These are the children of the women and men who are in
domestic violence situations. Children are the invisible victims when it comes to domestic violence.
There are many statistics being thrown around when it comes to the number of children who are
exposed to domestic violence; they range from as little as 200,000 to even 3 18 million (Sousa et. al.,
2011). A 2001 study discovered that in 75% of the cases in their study, children were present in the
home during the assaults (Hutchison Hirschel, 2001). Until recently, there have been limited studies
focused on the effects of exposure to domestic violence on children. This paper will review various
literatures that identify the effects of domestic violence exposure on children. There were many trends
in the literatures that were studied but there were two common trends worth mentioning. The first
trend was the participants that were used in the studies. Many of the literatures mention that previous
studies mainly gathered information from women and children who resided in battered women
shelters. The second trend was the methods used for the studies. Many of the studies used surveys and
interviews where women and children self reported on their experiences. There were many common

Disadvantages Of Enzymatic Browning
B rowning may be desirable, as in caramelization, or undesirable, as in an apple turning brown after
being cut. There are two types of browning, which are mentioned as follows:
1. Enzymatic Browning
2. Non enzymatic Browning
ENZYMATIC BROWNING
The phenomenon of Enzymatic browning is quite different from the rotting of food that comes with
decay. Browning foods can be safely eaten where as the rotten food become harmful. When fruits such
as avocadoes, apples, bananas and vegetables like potatoes become brown when cut. This browning
cannot only make the food look unappealing but also softens it and cause it to lose flavor. It also
severely limits the shelf life of the product decreasing its value. However the same chemical reaction
also develops the colors and tastes of tea, coffee, raisins, prunes and chocolate that many people love.
Thus, there are a few foods that benefit from enzymatic browning.

the cell wall come in contact with colorless phenols which are found inside the cell causing the brown

of this chemical reaction cause the brown color. The PPO and polyphenols are present in the plant
cells and are released when the cells are cut or mashed. They react with the oxygen that comes from
the air. (Enzymes are chemical substances that start or speed up a chemical reaction whereas a

Crafted Beer vs Mass Produced Beer
What s better, mass produced or crafted beer?
According to (http://www.brewersassociation.org/pages/business tools/craft brewing statistics/craft

(http://www.nomorefreebeer.com/index.php/the facts/anheuser beer list/)
There are two main aspects why people prefer crafted beer over mass produced beer, and quality is
one of those aspects. The main reason why they differ so much is that the purpose of the factories
producing the beer is different. For craft breweries it is important to have a really good in their beers
because their customers are willing to pay more for a higher quality. They use normally better and
more expensive ingredients and pay a lot of attention to the production process. The mass produced
beers are not even known for a good quality, sure there are some more expensive ones like Corona but
most of them are not. The reason why firms don t keep the quality high is that they want it to be cheap
and everyone should be able to purchase it because the main purpose of mass produced beer is to get
the consumer drunk. That s the actual part of enjoyment you get from drinking a beer.

Essay on Newborn Mortality Rates In Ghana And The United...
Newborn Mortality Rates in Ghana and the United States Today
Introduction
It is frequently been suggested that the infant mortality rate (IMR) is a reliable indicator of a country s
civilization and focus on the welfare of its citizens (Berger 2001). Although global infant mortality
rates has shown steady improvement over the past century, many developing countries continue to
experience inordinately high rates compared to the world levels; surprisingly, though, even the United
States which claims to have one of the best healthcare systems in the world continues to experience
relatively high infant mortality rates, higher even than many developing nations (Berger 2001). This

This has translated into an overall decline of almost 90 percent (Berger 2001). The majority of this
decline in the IMR has been attributed to improvements related to urban living (for example,
sanitation, pasteurization, improved water and sewage, reduced fertility rates, and improved economic
and educational levels), followed by improved technological and public health strategies (Berger
2001). Infant mortality rates have declined sharply in most developing countries in the past several
decades, just as they did earlier in the developed countries. The reductions in the IMR also resulted
from improvements in the prevention and treatment of diarrhea, which is a major killer of infants in
poor socioeconomic conditions (Zopf 1992). Infant Mortality in Ghana. While Ghana is relatively
small in area and population, the nation is one of the leading countries of Africa, due in part because
of its considerable natural wealth, and because it was the first black African country south of the

and industrialization programs. Ghana became independent on March 6, 1957, and is comprised of the
former British colony of the Gold Coast and that part of Togoland which was formerly a UN Trust

Technology is the use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes or applications, especially in an
industry or in our everyday lives. Technology usually involves in using an equipment and that
equipment can be very simple or very complicated to deal with. There are countless sources of
technology available to us along with multiple variations being created. Since the nineteenth century

technical devices for almost everything, currently, our society is living off of technology, due to that
fact that it makes any frequent task more convenient and effortless. Since the invention of the first

The Diversity Of Black Americans
Diversity is now, more than ever before, at the forefront of the American conversation. Black people
have been slowly but surely making gains in today s society and in ways that were not possible before.
African Americans are more educated and more affluent, and more important as consumers than ever
before. By 2017, they are expected to have a spending power of 1.3 trillion dollars (Resilient, 2013).
Young, influential, and brand loyal, this group should be the target of many companies. Interestingly
enough, there has not been much of an effort on the part of marketers to appeal to this growing group.
Additionally, the lack of diversity as well as the alienation of black people in the media is not doing
much to allow a wider range of companies to reach them. Black Americans are a powerful group, and
smart marketers will put a focus on investing in them to increase their market share.
It is important that people learning about the black customer understand the diversity of the black
population in America. Since 1990, the black immigrant population has nearly doubled, with 3.8
million living in the country now. This is almost 9% of the black population. This is only going to
continue by 2060, the U.S. Census predicts that one out of six U.S. blacks...will be immigrants

The Depositional Environments Of The Six Facies Displayed

Fore reef (dark blue) The mudstones indicate a low energy environment and small amounts of skeletal

have formed due to gravity driven flows.
Reef crest (orange) Indicated by the presence of red algae and Schleractinian corals e.g. .Acropora

2. The facies distribution in both layers indicate that this platform has a rimmed shelf geometry, most
likely an accretionary rimmed shelf, however there is not enough distal data to determine how steep
the fore reef slope is, see Figure 9 (Read, 1985). This platform follows a distal to proximal trend
moving from East to West. Within layer A, the facies in well A are fore reef and reef crest. Moving
westwards, the abundance of the fore reef decreases as water depth decreases, allowing the reef and
lagoonal facies to become more abundant. The lagoonal facies in well B will have a higher
concentration of skeletal grainstones than green algae as it will be closer to the lagoon barrier than
well C. Well C is dominated by lagoonal facies with a small amount of a lower intertidal zone facies,
indicating a more proximal environment. Wells D, E and F are dominated by lower intertidal zones
with small deviations into lagoonal and upper intertidal zone facies. The abundance of anhydrite and
gypsum facies increases moving westwards as the platform becomes more proximal and may be
moving into a supratidal facies.
Within layer B, the platform begins with a fore reef slope and reef crest for the first 4km, followed by
facies exhibiting a steady decrease in energy moving westwards (oolitic grain stones to mudstones and
wackestones). These layers differ as layer A has a larger reef crest and a lagoon which extends more
distally. The larger reef could lead to the larger

King Lear Flaws
William Shakespeare is famous for the tragic plays that he wrote throughout his lifetime. Students
study some of his best known tragic works like Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and King Lear. These
tragic plays revolve around a character whose life is influential and heroic, known as the tragic hero.
The tragic hero is always a noble member of a royal family, who possesses a tragic flaw which leads
to his untimely death and the death of other characters around him, both innocent and guilty. Often
times, the tragic hero is a character whose flaw is exaggerated, for as a man of great heroism, his vices
must be equally great. Throughout the play, readers sympathize with the character recognizing their
own weakness as the character himself realizes his flaw and tries to right all of the wrong that has
been done. This is true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even those of royal blood themselves show King Lear the same respect anyone else would give him.
The Duke of Burgundy, one of Cordelia s suitor s addresses King Lear properly: Pardon me, royal sir;
/ Election makes not up in such conditions (Shakespeare 1.1. 204 205). Burgundy addresses King Lear
as royal sir, showing that he is of high noble status. King Lear bearing the title of King shows that he
is a male of noble birth and therefore fulfills the first trait of being a tragic hero.
Throughout the play, King Lear continuously proves that he is indeed, a tragic hero. As a King, his
nobility is unquestionable, but his tragic flaw of pride brings death to himself and others.
Unfortunately, once he realizes his mistakes and tries to fix them, it is too late, and both the guilty and
innocent pay the price of his pride. However, King Lear s value is not lost; readers of today can learn
from the mistakes of Lear and perhaps prevent the recurrence of such conflicts in their own lives.
Tragic heroes like Lear teach readers valuable life lessons that they can learn

Air Entering The Vascular System
Purpose:
Air embolism is a rare but potentially fatal consequence of air entering the vascular system. It can
result from a wide range of procedures, including those related to vascular access in interventional
radiology, in addition to open surgical procedures. We set out to review all cases of air embolism at
our institution over a 25 year period, including analysis of cause, clinical signs and symptoms,
treatment and prognosis.
Materials and Methods:
Institutional board review for this retrospective study was obtained. A centralized clinical data registry

embolism, 958.0. Additionally, a separate database of radiology reports was searched for the terms air
embolism , air embolus and other related terms over the same time period. The data were combined
and the relevant medical records were reviewed. Patients with imaging evidence or high clinical
suspicion of air embolism were identified. Inclusion criteria included the presence of sudden
desaturation, reduced end tidal CO2, acute cardiopulmonary compromise as defined by the need for
cardiopulmonary resuscitation or vasopressors, acute neurological change including motor or sensory

The Defense Of Socrates In Plato s The Apology
Socrates, the father of western philosophy, was an incredible apologist. While he never wrote any
books of his own, his teaching is filtered through the ages from his apprentices. Plato, one of his
students, wrote The Apology describing Socrates defense against the accusations that led him to be on
trial. The story begins with Socrates opening with an appeal to the jury. His defense is simply his skills
of rhetoric. Instead of bringing evidence, as seen in a normal court of law today, he decides to defend
himself with logic and reason. He shows cool composure in facing prosecution from a jury that was
biased against him. In the Apology, Socrates demonstrates his knowledge, courage, and fortitude when
facing his accusers and responding to their challenges but also shows his natural tendency to be blunt
and abrasive. Socrates was put on trial with a jury of his peers who were already biased against him.
He could have fled, but he chose to face them. This showed fortitude. He was charged with not
recognizing the gods, inventing deities, and corrupting the people of Athens. His first and most
important counter was the fact that the Oracle of Delphi called him the wisest man. He asked whether
there was anyone wiser than I. The Pythia replied that no one was wiser (Plato, 4). If the Greeks were

Confederate Viewpoints
Beyond sharpening my social awareness, Intergroup Dialogue forced me to consider that my
perception of the world is not the only one. For, as previously mentioned, I did not find that
conflicting viewpoints were the most defining aspect of the IGD experience. Upon reflection,
however, it is probable that I felt this way because the majority of the opinions expressed were similar
to my own. The class was largely comprised of people of color who came off as mostly liberal in their

been completely different as compared to what they are used to. As an example, there was a time in

that her opinions are clearly a lot different than everyone else s. This statement occurred after what I
would personally deem the most palpable demonstration of difference within the course: the debate
over whether public displays of Confederate symbols should be permanently removed and banned.
This dissimilarity in perspective arose during Four Corners, an activity wherein students individually
move to different corners of the room in order to demonstrate the extent to which they agree or
disagree with statements read aloud by facilitators. When an opinion stating that the Confederate flag
should be banned was read, nearly every student moved to the agree half of the room. However, Sarah

John Cages Influence On Society
As one of the most radical composers in the 20th century, John Cage introduced new ideas of what
music is. Breaking away from the traditional idea that music stems solely from the musician s
preconceived and structured arrangement of sounds from specific instruments, Cage s philosophy of
music is based on the idea that all sounds can work cooperatively to create music, including those
from the environment.
Strongly influenced by the principles in Zen Buddhism and Indian music, Cage began to explore new
medians for music; He incorporated different elements by relying heavily on chance and randomness.
Cage worked hard to create pieces that detached himself, as the composer, far away from the piece
itself as possible to allow the listener

Ageism is prejudice and discrimination against older adults. (Schaefer, 2012) It is a set of beliefs,
attitudes, norms, and values used to justify age based prejudice, discrimination, and subordination.
This may be casual or systematic. The term was coined in 1969 by ... Show more content on

The information in this section of the AoA website brings together a wide variety of statistical
information about this growing population. (Aging, 2013)
What types of legislation may or may not be affected by the aging population?
The two types of legislation that may or may not affect the aging population in the United States are;
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and the Health Care and Education
Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010 respectively. Population aging may affect financial markets if
individuals tend to amass assets during their working years and spend them during retirement. When
there is a large cohort such as the baby boom, there may be more demand than usual for corporate
stock and other assets while the cohort saves for retirement. This demand for corporate stock and other
assets may abate after the cohort retires. (tonihansberry, 2012)
How does poverty affect the aging population?
Aging Americans, like other age groups, are feeling the effects of the declining real estate and stock
markets, as well as soaring fuel and food prices. Seniors economic security will only increase in
importance as the U.S. population ages. The nation s health and social services resources will face
unprecedented demand as 75 million people in the baby boomer generation reach retirement age some
with eroded savings and retirement accounts. Aging people of color are more likely than white

Freudian Defense Mechanisms
The types of things the theorists examine in a Freudian theory are structural model, libido and
Thanatos, defense mechanisms and a very controversial theory psycho sexual stages of development.
The Freudian theory is about discovering the unconscious part of our mind. And different ways we can
do so and what tests prove that we do have a part of our brain which is the unconscious that does
work. The structural model is when Freud discovered Id, the ego and the super ego. Libido and
Thanatos is when Freud identified two instincts that were either sexual or aggressive. Defense
mechanisms are the way people deal with situations that they feel helpless in. There is seven types of
defense mechanisms that people use to deal with their emotions. The ... Show more content on

Freud got a lot of backlash because he related every stage to sexual content. Even relating sex with the
first stage we go through in life which is infants. Out of all the concepts the theorists examine, I m
going to focus and give examples of defense mechanisms and their behaviors. The two Specific
defense mechanism I am going to speak about is denial and projection that my person demonstrates all
the time. With denial a person refuses to accept reality even when all the proof is in front of them.
Projection is when a person again cannot deal with reality and their problems and will act like it is
another person s problem not theirs. The person I m going to use is a stepparent of mine. Growing up
with him he unfortunately was sick with an addiction to alcohol. He was in extreme denial about his
disease that unfortunately was hereditary. He would be extremely defensive about his drinking. Telling
my family he didn t even drink that much when we all knew his daily intake. When the disease started
to really affect his life negatively we had a family intervention explaining the health concerns that can

Use Of Irony In Flannery O Connor s Good Country People
In Flannery O Connor s short story Good Country People, O Connor examines Hugla s relationship to
her wooden leg and the autonomy it gives her. Hugla sees as her leg as the only thing she s in control
of and nothing else in the world matters, and she thinks that she is better than everyone else because
she has a doctoral degree in philosophy. O Connor conveys this through irony begging with the story
title. As it begins we meet Ms. Freeman, she and her husband have been working for Mrs. Hopewell
for four years. She kept them for so long because she didn t think of them as trash but yet they were
good country people. The First thing that we learn about Ms. Hopewell is that her previous worker
says she was the nosiest woman on earth. But Ms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But there are still serious downsides to her existence. She is isolated and lonely, and the feeling of
superiority she nurtures in the company of her mom and Mrs. Freeman stands on shaky legs they re
only two people, after all which leaves her vulnerable to people with bad intentions. O Connor
presents such irony of a theme that it can progress in just one person by itself. Manley Pointer, also
known as the bible salesman , portrays that intelligence and corruptness presides together to make
such a turn in the plot that you would not have assumed. Being bible salesmen we would think that
Pointer would be a true to the heart Christian who knows the bible and would also be Good Country
People. Manley Pointer serves as the representative for her self discovery. Pointer at first appears to be
a unsophisticated, otherworldly Fundamentalist and Hulga s mission is to strip away his Christian
principles. She is, however, completely tricked by his impersonation; it is she who is taken in and in
the end, it is she who wants to be reassured that Pointer is just good country people. Instead, Pointer
exposes himself as a country existentialist, living for the moment, unaffected by the pretensions that

Consumer nowadays are quite concern on the quality of the products purchased. They are more
willing to pay for a premium in order to obtain a superior quality of a product rather than spend less
money to get a low quality of product. Thus, quality has become an important factor in determining
what car or vehicle to purchase among consumers. Previous research has suggested that consumers are
keeping their cars for longer, so it is even more vital that their car be well built and relatively
inexpensive to maintain. Definitely, imported car is better as compared to local car especially in term
of quality. This is because imported cars were more reliable and cheaper to maintain than domestic
car. This helps consumers to save their considerable money at import car services such as for
maintenance and repair over the life of the car. Even the price of domestic car is cheaper than
imported car, but it require consumers to spend a lot for maintenance and repair in the future. As a
smart consumer, it is essential to consider not only the initial cost, but also the overall cost of
ownership for the life of the vehicle.
Moreover, there are three types of importers. First, many importers nowadays look for any product
around the world will then import and sell to their customers. As mentioned above, imported Nissan

Hennessey Venom Swot Analysis
A car to a normal person will get you from point A to point B and not think anything different. To
other individuals, a car is actually a part of its owner. They treat it as part of the family. These
individuals will take their pride and joy and manipulate their automobile to get the most out of it. This
could be just for looks or for performance. One of the most important things to a car junkie looks for
is speed. Since the day the automobile was created, individuals kept pushing the limits of how fast
they could go. The Model T when it was invented had a top speed between 40 45 MPH back in 1919.
These days, individuals have been able to slightly improve upon those numbers. In 2014, a Hennessey
Venom GT, a combination of a Lotus Elise chassis and 1,244 hp 7.0 liter twin turbocharged V8, was
recorded as exceeding 270.49 mph. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hennessey Venom GT also only made one pass, while to actually secure the top speed record you
most make a pass back and forth as to take wind into account and average the time. Since the
Hennessey Venom GT only made one run, the Guinness Book of World Records would not validate its
speed as the world s fastest car. While everyone loves to drive fast, only a few are able to say they
have driven the fastest ever. It will only be a matter of time before we have automobiles that could
well top 300 MPH. The more science and computers play into the area of creating the fastest
automobile, the records, we feel, will be breaking over and over again for a long time to

The Sociopath Mr. Ripley Essay
Conceptualize a world in which you have no conscience, no feelings of guilt or remorse no matter
what actions you take no sense of empathy or concern of the well being of friends, loved ones, or even
family members. This is the world of a sociopath. This is the world of Tom Ripley in Patricia
Highsmith s The Talented Mr. Ripley. Tom develops into an intelligent young man who eventually
conjures a crime spree in Europe. His driving force behind this spree, though the spree may be
sporadic, is freedom. His ability to be independent from a guilty conscience and the pleasure from
concealing a false identity (characteristics of a sociopath) are his motives behind his acquisition for
freedom. We do not know much about Tom s childhood; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Tom we see in New York is poor, intelligent, clever, and anti social. He makes his keep by
receiving monthly checks from his Aunt Dottie and gets his kick by acting as an income tax collector.
The title he receives as Collector of Internal Revenue (18) is the first notion of Tom getting off on a
false identity. While in New York he gets a break from the filthy lifestyle he s leading. The filth is
compiled of the crummy community apartment building and the roommates and residents. There they
all were, mostly Bob s lousy friends, sprawled on his bed, on the floor, everywhere... The slobs he had
thought he had left behind (34). Out of serendipitous circumstances and Tom s clever, quick
intelligence, he gains an opportunity to mold himself into a position to receive a free ride to Europe.
He plays the part of the friend of Robert (Dickie) Greenleaf while Mr. Greenleaf (Dickie s father)
becomes his audience. Tom went on, getting into the spirit of it. Dickie showed me some ship models

Impersonations become a constant theme. Starting with the act as an income tax collector to the act as
Roberts s friend, these impersonations escalate throughout. The attention seeking pleasure he receives
from acting out a false identity ends up not being enough. The beginning of his crime spree and
essentially his freedom can be seen in Mongibello, Italy. Not only does

Martin Luther s 95 Theses Analysis
Martin Luther wrote his 95 theses at a time when Europe was changing, over the years it had garnered
a greater sense of nationalism in part brought on by the failings of the church. It is these failings that
Luther wrote about and ultimately helped lead to the success of the Reformation (Kagen 322). Some
of the key issues that Luther raised were the indulgences and general corruption of the church (Adolph
Spaeth). The indulgences were created as a way for the Catholic church to generate revenue and they
functioned as a get out of jail (purgatory) free card. Catholics believe that the soul goes to purgatory to
be cleansed of their sins before moving on to heaven (Hollingsworth 11). Indulgences could be
purchased from the church to either absolve the living or the dead from their sins without an act of
repentance. The usual acts of repentance included prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and retreats and were
meant to absolve the person of their sins (Hampson 89). Luther believed that an important part of
being a Christian was to do charitable service over a lifetime, the ability for a person to buy their way
into heaven greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The indulgences were created in 1343 as a way for the church to raise money. They cited that the
church had a pool of good deed points that could essentially be doled out for a fee. In 1517 Pop Leo X
created the jubilee Indulgence to finance the rebuilding of St. Peters Basilica in Rome. This
Indulgence absolved the sinner of all outstanding sins that had been perpetrated allowing them to skip
purgatory (Kagen 324). Luther felt that the church was undermining the very foundation of
Christianity as a way to make money (Hampson 89). Luther says, Why does not the pope, whose
wealth is to day greater than the riches of the richest, build just this one church of St. Peter with his
own money, rather than with the money of poor believers? (Adolph

Personal Narrative-Title Match Between Me And Bruno...
Ironically, the one match I remember best from that three year reign is one that never took place: a
1965 title versus title match between me and Bruno Sammartino. It would have united two of the three
existing titles and made an awful lot of money for everyone involved if it had occurred, and I m sorry
it didn t. The only satisfaction I derive from thinking about it is that I once again and for the final time,
as it turned out repaid Toots Mondt for the way he had treated me and all the boys almost 30 years
earlier in southern California. It was the New York swifties who suggested the match. They called
Sam Muchnick and said they wanted a meeting to discuss some mutual business, so Sam and I flew to
Chicago to meet them Toots, Vince ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

give you a $25,000 bonus, out of my own pocket. And you can sleep on that. I looked at him while he
was talking, remembering those days in Los Angeles when he was paying us $10 a show and putting
at least $5,000 in his pocket every week. I was remembering, too, all the stories about his petty thefts,
cons, and hustles. I couldn t stand being in the same room with the man. Toots, I said, when he finally
stopped talking, you don t have enough money in your pocket to pay for the coffee you ve been
drinking this morning. You want to know what you can do with your $25,000 bonus? You can write it
on a stiff check, and then I ll tell you where you can stick it. This is a business deal, and if you and
that other thief can come up with $125,000 in advance, then we ll do it. If you can t, then we won t.

Over fished and Under protected: Ocean Life on the Brink of Catastrophic Collapse Tom Levitt, for
CNN
Updated: 11:07 AM, Wednesday March 27, 2013.
The downfall of fish in the Atlantic Ocean is a result of numerous factors such as certain fishing
techniques, climate change, and pollution. One type of fishing technique that is causing serious
damage to marine life is bottom trawling. Bottom trawling is a form of fishing that involves a large
net, about 60 meters wide, and dragging it along the bottom of the sea with heavy weights from a
trawler. Bottom trawling causes irreversible damage to coral life and slow growing fish species, for
example the Orange Roughy s (Slime Head) species has decreased more than 90%. Halibut
disappeared from the North Atlantic in the 19th century. In the North Ocean, Blue Fin Tuna
disappeared in the 1930 s 1940 s, and today have disappeared across the seas of Northern Europe.
This is a paragraph from an article, Over fished and Under protected: Oceans on the Brink of
Catastrophic Collapse by Tom Levitt, for CNN.
Marine conservationists compare it to a bulldozer, with the nets pulled for as far as 20km, picking up
turtles, coral and anything else in their path. The by catch, unwanted fish and other ocean life thrown
back into the sea, can amount to as much as 90% of a trawl s total catch.
Opinion 2: Deep sea fishing is oceanocide .
During 1990 2008, an

This policy analysis will review the programs that the cities of Newark and Philadelphia implemented
and why these issues are important. The analysis will also examine the programs each city created to
address the violence in the specific urban areas of their city and the impacts the programs have had to
date. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of police foot patrol as a means of
deterrence through apprehension and as a means of risk reduction, community and problem oriented
policing, high crime neighborhood hot spots, and violence prevention. This will be done through the
examination of the Newark, NJ and Philadelphia, PA foot patrol experiments. The Philadelphia and

neighborhoods to a safe environment for kids and the elderly to live. The plan outlines challenges for
interactions with local residents and attracting more business to make the area a desirable place for
residents and visitors to patronize. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of
police foot patrol as a means of deterrence through apprehension and as a means of risk reduction,
community and problem oriented policing, high crime neighborhood hot spots, and violence
prevention. The Philadelphia Foot Patrol experiment was designed in response to a need to calculate
which method of problem oriented policing are successful in deterring crime in hot spot during the
summer months. We were able to conclude that after 3 months of intensive foot patrol in the treatment
area prevented 90 various violent crimes in hot spots, because we have to take in effect the notion of

Gresham Vs Peterson Case Study
In Gresham v. Peterson, the City of Indianapolis amended an ordinance regarding solicitation in public
places. Gresham v. Peterson, 225 F.3d 899, 901 (7th Cir. 2000). The ordinance prohibited any
solicitation made in person upon any street, public place or park in the city, in which a person requests
an immediate donation of money or other gratuity . . . . Id. It included seeking donations by vocal
appeal or for . . . street performance . . . and where the person being solicited receives an item of little
or no monetary value in exchange for a donation . . . where a reasonable person would understand that
the transaction is in substance a donation. Id. However, panhandling did not include the act of

Public streets provide not only the transportation, but the vitality, attraction, and interaction in a city. A
willingness to walk on and use the streets is essential to businesses, and to the life and economic
success of a city. Robert Teir, Maintaining Safety and Civility in Public Spaces: A Constitutional
Approach to Aggressive Begging, 54 La. L. Rev. 285, 288 (1993). However, these social catalysts
only exist if public spaces are viewed as desirable and attractive. Id. at 289. Unfortunately, when parks
or sidewalks are a place of frequent intimidation and intrusion, they become a place not to be sought
out, but rather to be avoided. Citizens and visitors begin to think twice about taking their children to
the park or square, or taking a walk to the lake, the coffee shop, or the corner store, due to the
unwillingness to want to face solicitors because of the frequent intimidation, intrusion, and oftentimes
violent and coercive nature of panhandling. Because panhandling threatens the community, as well as
personal security, it must be regulated in order to maintain attractive and secure public spaces. Id. at

  • 2. Police Officer, Martin Mcfadden On October 31st, 1963, in Cleveland, Ohio, Officer Martin McFadden observed two men standing outside a storefront acting suspiciously. He watched one of the men walk down the street pausing to look in a store window. At the end of the street the man turned around and proceeded to walk back, pausing at the same store window as on his way down. Upon reaching the other man, the two mingled and talked to each other. Officer McFadden witnessed these men do this several times. Officer McFadden concerned the men were casing a job , then followed the two men, and watched as they met up in front of Zucker s Store. At this point, Officer McFadden walked up to the men, identified himself as a police officer, and asked for their names. He asked the first man, Terry to turn around. He frisked him, and, feeling a pistol frame inside Terry s overcoat, ordered the men into the store. Terry and Chilton were charged with possession of a concealed weapon, and were each sentenced to three years in prison. The arrest of Terry set in motion a series of lower court cases that ultimately led to the landmark Supreme Court case that addressed the Fourth Amendment right against unreasonable searches and seizures. The United States Supreme Court decided the case of Terry v. Ohio on June 10, 1968. The question that arises in the Terry v. Ohio case has to do with the Fourth Amendment, specifically the line the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Billie was born to very young parents. Her mother was thirteen when she was born and her father just fifteen. (www.numberonestars.com, 2010) Her father made his living as a jazz musician and later he left Billie s mother. Billie was raised by her mother and grandparents. Billie was not a happy child and eventually left school at an early age. It was rumored that she became a prostitute like her mother. Even with the change in her music still had a great impact on other artists of her time and later. (www.numberonestars.com, 2010) At the end of her life Billie s personal life and career suffered. She didn t have a cabaret card which is what was needed to work in New York City clubs at the time. She had no many in her bank account because she was cheated out of it. While she was dying she was arrested due to her heroin addiction. (www.numberonestars.com, 2010) The relationships that Billie engaged in were almost as bad as her heroin addiction. She was married to Jimmy Monroe, but separated from him and briefly had an affair with a trumpeter. She finally divorced her husband and left the trumpeter only to take up with a man thought to be an enforcer for the mob. Louis McKay was no better than the rest, but tried to get Billie clean. • 4. Analysis Of Tea Cake In Their Eyes Were Watching God In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Tea Cake proves to be affectionate but reckless. Together these traits create a flawed character. Janie has already developed an increasing proud sense of self, but Tea Cake furthers her spiritual growth and fulfillment. Instead of stifling her voice he supports it, allowing her to be herself in a relationship, opening her eyes to new experiences and life skills. Tea Cake s character and personality cause Janie to learn things about herself she never knew in her marriages to Logan nor Joe. As said in the novel, So the very next morning Janie got ready to pick beans along with Tea Cake. There was a suppressed murmur when she picked up a basket and went to work... But all day long the romping and playing they carried on behind the boss s back made her popular right away. It got the whole field to playing off and on. Then Tea Cake would help get supper afterwards (Hurston 157). This proves that Tea Cake is affectionate by giving Janie the choice/option of working beside him, he doesn t instruct her to do so, showing that he really cares about her overall happiness. This is something different for Janie because throughout her previous marriages she is made to do things. This gives Janie a sense of equality and independence. However, Tea Cake is reckless as well, in the novel, it states, He took it up and looked at it of curiosity and put it in his pocket to count it while he was out finding some fish to fry. Caring for patients does not only include making sure that they are safe and well taking care of but it also requires for nurses to act as patients advocate and ensure that the best methods are used to provide care. Nurses contribute to ensuring that the patients are as comfortable as possible and help prevent or reduce pain as much as they can (Dearholt. Dang, 2012, p. 12P). The laws of sex offenders have evolved due to the high number of sexual offenses that could have been prevented if the sanctions of sex violators were stricter or at least had underwent some rehabilitation. Warning people about the level of crimes in the area. In argument, laws have been effective in reducing rate of sexual offenses and increased public safety of the residents. In 1986, a tragic unexpectedly occurred when a 19 years old freshman college student, Jeanne Clery, was raped and murdered at her school. A public tragedy often leads to measures being taken to avoid similar tragic events in the future. In 2006, proposition #83 was officially passed by 70% of California voters for the protection of children from repeat sex offenders who had been convicted before. The story behind why the proposition # 83 was originally passed is also a another tragic. Jessica Lunsford, only nine years old, was kidnapped, raped, and murdered by a convicted sex offender named John Couey who was not under the police surveillance and he had relapsed into the same criminal behavior, after receiving sanctions that was not strict enough. Stricter sanctions could had hold him still in jail. If he received rehabilitation, the chances of him relapsing into the crime would had been lower according to the data showing a reduction in recidivism therapy. According to Weinrott Blackshaw (1989), the recidivism rates for offenders who were treated were reduced compared to recidivism rates for offenders who were not treated. With better police surveillance, the crime could have been prevented if the sex offender was on guard and on lifetime global positioning (prop 83). After proposition was passed, officers are now ordered to keep track of sex offenders and they are forbidden from entering in areas near schools and parks where kids are usually present. It also increased the penalties for repeated sex offenders. Because of this new law, children are now better protected from sex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe that the United States is the best country in the world, and it shows by the beacon of hope that flag represents. The very first flag of the United States was called the Grand Union, and it was flown for about a year. Instead of stars in the left corner, there was the crosses on the British flag, and it still had the 13 stripes in honor of the colonies. The flag was probably made this way as the design is easy to make, being only stripes and a British flag. La Sagrada Familia ( The Expiratory Church Of The Holy Family In 1884, Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí began work on La Sagrada Família (the Expiratory Church of the Holy Family,) a Catholic cathedral in Barcelona, Spain. What began as a modest Gothic Revival design by fellow architect Francisco de Paula del Villar transformed, under Gaudi s direction, into a massive monument to Catholicism, Catalonia, and the city of Barcelona. Neither of the Gothic tradition nor Catalan Modernisme, La Sagrada Familia is known for its striking individuality at the turn of the twentieth century. as well as its enormous scale and plethora of motifs. While many people abhore the intense decoration and towering height, (people have obviously also thought it worthwhile because the building is still under meticulous construction to this very day and completion is anticipated in 2020, marking 140 years of construction.) Gaudi did not mind that the construction would last beyond his death because, when given the extent of his efforts, La Sagrada Familia became a vessel through which Gaudi could finally build to fruition the architectural conceptions he had been developing with previous projects. Throughout his career , Gaudi strove to imbue his architecture with a sense of life, and he was able to do this through geometry. Here just like in the beginning of the book, Jane feels isolated and alone and feels like no one can help and ironically it is her cousins who alienated her to begin with but now are bringing her in. 2. Another clear reference to gender equality and the lack of it as well as a comment on class roles. This quote shows how while before Mr. Rochester used to lead Jane when Jane was metaphorically blind and used to support her, the opposite has just happened and now Jane leads the actually blind Mr. Rochester and supports him because now she is rich. 2. Bronte addresses the reader personally which signifies that something important is about to happen, and it does. Jane and Mr. Rochester have switched roles. Trust, personal growth from friendships becomes challenging without the presents of this crucial element. Without trust, individual s confidence in all echelons of leadership and their subordinates ability to complete missions would diminish a unit s morale and loyalty. Friendships are constructed over time through the innuendo of mutual trust. Time is the only factor that gains trust and cannot be expected or granted to. Most people do not comprehend how vital trust is; it is at the same level as faith. The absence of trust puts personal lives and jobs at risk. The Military places trust in the civilian population when they contract them to aid the Soldiers on their daily task and building most of their weaponry, vehicles, ships and aircraft. All leadership should trust their subordinates when executing a task. Ensuring Soldiers do their job while implementing military standards without supervision is fundamental. • 11. Symbolism In Through The Tunnel By Doris Lessing A part of maturing is finally doing things independently without the supervision from parents. In her short story, Through the Tunnel , Doris Lessing conveys the concept of maturing through becoming self sufficient. Lessing uses characterization and symbolism to show that being self reliant is a part of growing up. The symbolism of the color brown and the struggle of Jerry going through the tunnel represents the signs of maturity. Jerry describes the boys as having burned smooth dark brown skin. In Jerry s point of view, they are described as big boys, men, to Jerry . The two quotes associate the brown skin with being older and mature. In the time span between Jerry seeing the boys and Jerry and his mother leaving the beach, he trains himself to swim through the tunnel in order to be like the big boys. Jerry suffers through many hardships in order to pass through the tunnel and he does it all by himself without his mom or anyone to help him. Swimming through the tunnel is like the transition from an immature child to a sophisticated, young adult. After Jerry swims through the tunnel all by himself, it is said that his mother puts her hand on his warm brown shoulder . Describing Jerry s shoulder as brown shows that Jerry is now like the older boys. The symbolism of the brown skin emphasizes the maturity of Jerry, and the symbolism of the tunnel emphasizes that becoming a young adult is a journey one has to go through on his or her own and with a lot of struggling on the way. The effect of the symbolism illustrates that growing up will include some hard times, but it is worth it in the end because people know that they can do things on their own now. The characterization of Jerry illustrates the stages of maturing and becoming independent. In the beginning of the story, Jerry is depicted as young and immature. The immaturity of Jerry is shown when he is trying to capture the older boys attention. In order to capture their attention, he began splashing and kicking in the water like a foolish dog. This action conveys that Jerry is still immature, and wants to join the older kids. After seeing the boys pass through the tunnel, Jerry also wants to pass through in order to be a part of their group. In order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These details can be seen between Bichitr s Jahangir Preferring a Sufi Shaykh to Kings, Wang Hui s A Thousand Peaks and Myriad Ravines, and Diego Velázquez s Las Meninas (The Maids of Honor). While each carries the style of its own location of origin, they all showcase influence and subject matter similarities and differences worth making note of, most specifically the presence of duality in focus within the paintings. The third of the paintings stemming from the Baroque period done by Velázquez is one of his many works for the court, setting the tone in the particular area, while not extending much further (49, Bazin). The court employing Velázquez was that of King Philip IV, with the focus of this painting being the king s daughter. This particular piece has not only the artist himself depicted, the children of the court scattered about, but also a mirror in the back showing the King and Queen standing as the painter is depicted to be painting their portrait. Each point of attention draws way from the former, then pushing to the next in a cycle of focus. Once Velázquez started using almost strictly the style of portraits, he mastered the art using the available means to the fullest. The painting at hand in particular uses his mastery of portraiture to the fullest in varying who is being painted and their positions on the canvas (59 60, Bazin). Each painting draws influence from their individual location of origin, mostly in subject, to appeal to the patrons of the time. While each piece was created within the 17th century, there are obvious differences from place to place in how they were meant to be created. Its walls were an expanse of red brick stacked on red brick, contrasting the two white front doors and the white domed tower. It sat atop Henrick Cliff with large fields sloping down from the front of the house. The tower could be seen rising from the back of the house, with the cliffs edge and sea beyond that. The observatory looked like a forgotten castle, waiting for the next rulers to occupy it. The building had been boarded up since the thirties, when its owner, Henrick En Thanatos whom the cliff was named after went missing. During his occupancy, he had used the observatory as his home, studying astronomy away from the nearby cities lights. An example of substitutes is Coca Cola and Pepsi because as the price of Coca Cola, the demand for Pepsi will go up. Complements are two goods for which an increase in the price of one leads to a decrease in the demand for the other. An example of complements is coffee vs donuts because as the price of coffee goes, the demand for donuts will go down. Both substitutes and complements affect the cross elasticity of demand, which is a measure of how much the quantity demanded of one good responds to a change in price of another good, computed as the percentage change in quantity demanded of the first good divided by the percentage change in price of the second good. Substitutes cause a positive relationship, while complements cause a negative relationship. Dunkin Donuts is a real world example of how a change in price to a complementary goods affects demand. While Dunkin Donuts itself could be considered a substitute for Starbucks, its products are complements for each other. Dunkin Donuts has to be wary that their price increase in one products will not hurts sales for another. xiii). Total surplus, or economic surplus, is the sum consumer and producer surplus. • 20. Creation, Rebellion, And Fall The Bible contains sixty six books, written by approximately forty authors, over the course of two thousand years. God created and loves humans despite their rebellious attitude towards Him, and God wants to reunite humans to Himself (Poythress, 2008). The Bible is a record of the sinful rebellion of humans and it still declares God s love for humanity through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. This foundation prepares the way for Jesus Christ to fulfill God s entire promised covenants. Creation, Rebellion, and Fall (4004 2234 BC) In six days God created the universe, the earth, and every living thing on it. This includes human beings, who were made in Gods own image. God created Adam and Eve to have an unobstructed relationship with him, He placed them in a paradise called the Garden of Eden and gave them freedom to live in friendship and trust with him. God saw that everything he created was good and He rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2). God left Adam and Eve in the garden with specific instructions: they are NOT to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. However, they rebel and sin enters the world after a serpent tricks Eve into questioning God s love and motives. In her gullible innocence, she ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3). Eve shared the fruit with Adam and they spiritually and physically die. Although the devastating effects that domestic violence has on women are well known, there is a population of domestic violence victims that we tend to overlook. These are the children of the women and men who are in domestic violence situations. Children are the invisible victims when it comes to domestic violence. There are many statistics being thrown around when it comes to the number of children who are exposed to domestic violence; they range from as little as 200,000 to even 3 18 million (Sousa et. al., 2011). A 2001 study discovered that in 75% of the cases in their study, children were present in the home during the assaults (Hutchison Hirschel, 2001). Until recently, there have been limited studies focused on the effects of exposure to domestic violence on children. This paper will review various literatures that identify the effects of domestic violence exposure on children. There were many trends in the literatures that were studied but there were two common trends worth mentioning. The first trend was the participants that were used in the studies. Many of the literatures mention that previous studies mainly gathered information from women and children who resided in battered women shelters. The second trend was the methods used for the studies. Many of the studies used surveys and interviews where women and children self reported on their experiences. Infant mortality rates have declined sharply in most developing countries in the past several decades, just as they did earlier in the developed countries. The reductions in the IMR also resulted from improvements in the prevention and treatment of diarrhea, which is a major killer of infants in poor socioeconomic conditions (Zopf 1992). The tragic hero is always a noble member of a royal family, who possesses a tragic flaw which leads to his untimely death and the death of other characters around him, both innocent and guilty. Often times, the tragic hero is a character whose flaw is exaggerated, for as a man of great heroism, his vices must be equally great. • 36. Confederate Viewpoints Beyond sharpening my social awareness, Intergroup Dialogue forced me to consider that my perception of the world is not the only one. For, as previously mentioned, I did not find that conflicting viewpoints were the most defining aspect of the IGD experience. Upon reflection, however, it is probable that I felt this way because the majority of the opinions expressed were similar to my own. The class was largely comprised of people of color who came off as mostly liberal in their political and social views. For myself, this is the norm. For someone else, however, this may have been completely different as compared to what they are used to. As an example, there was a time in class when Sarah, a European woman who was not born in the United States, observed to the group that her opinions are clearly a lot different than everyone else s. This statement occurred after what I would personally deem the most palpable demonstration of difference within the course: the debate over whether public displays of Confederate symbols should be permanently removed and banned. This dissimilarity in perspective arose during Four Corners, an activity wherein students individually move to different corners of the room in order to demonstrate the extent to which they agree or disagree with statements read aloud by facilitators. When an opinion stating that the Confederate flag should be banned was read, nearly every student moved to the agree half of the room. However, Sarah ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Breaking away from the traditional idea that music stems solely from the musician s preconceived and structured arrangement of sounds from specific instruments, Cage s philosophy of music is based on the idea that all sounds can work cooperatively to create music, including those from the environment. Strongly influenced by the principles in Zen Buddhism and Indian music, Cage began to explore new medians for music; He incorporated different elements by relying heavily on chance and randomness. This meant that Chinese mothers could only have one child. Any additional children were taken from their parents by the government. At the time it was illegal for a Chinese mother to abandon her child. This meant that if mothers wanted to provide their child a safe and secure future, they often chose to leave the baby during the night either at or close to a children s orphanage. In my case it was reported that my mother left me in blue clothes, wrapped in a nice blanket, and tucked me into a box. The box was placed at an open air market across street from the TuanFeng Orphanage. In most all reported cases mother s will hid and watch their child all night to make sure they are safe and found the next morning. Martin Luther s 95 Theses Analysis Martin Luther wrote his 95 theses at a time when Europe was changing, over the years it had garnered a greater sense of nationalism in part brought on by the failings of the church. It is these failings that Luther wrote about and ultimately helped lead to the success of the Reformation (Kagen 322). Some of the key issues that Luther raised were the indulgences and general corruption of the church (Adolph Spaeth). The indulgences were created as a way for the Catholic church to generate revenue and they functioned as a get out of jail (purgatory) free card. Catholics believe that the soul goes to purgatory to be cleansed of their sins before moving on to heaven (Hollingsworth 11). Indulgences could be purchased from the church to either absolve the living or the dead from their sins without an act of repentance. The usual acts of repentance included prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and retreats and were meant to absolve the person of their sins (Hampson 89). The Downfall Of Marine Life On The Brink Of Catastrophic... http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/22/world/oceans overfishing climate change/ Over fished and Under protected: Ocean Life on the Brink of Catastrophic Collapse Tom Levitt, for CNN Updated: 11:07 AM, Wednesday March 27, 2013. The downfall of fish in the Atlantic Ocean is a result of numerous factors such as certain fishing techniques, climate change, and pollution. One type of fishing technique that is causing serious damage to marine life is bottom trawling. Bottom trawling is a form of fishing that involves a large net, about 60 meters wide, and dragging it along the bottom of the sea with heavy weights from a trawler. Bottom trawling causes irreversible damage to coral life and slow growing fish species, for example the Orange Roughy s (Slime Head) species has decreased more than 90%. Halibut disappeared from the North Atlantic in the 19th century. In the North Ocean, Blue Fin Tuna disappeared in the 1930 s 1940 s, and today have disappeared across the seas of Northern Europe. This is a paragraph from an article, Over fished and Under protected: Oceans on the Brink of Catastrophic Collapse by Tom Levitt, for CNN. Marine conservationists compare it to a bulldozer, with the nets pulled for as far as 20km, picking up turtles, coral and anything else in their path.
