Summary Of The Yellow Wall-Paper
To be effective means to be successful in producing a desired or intended result. According to
Aristotle, the most effective way to construct the plot of a story is to have a clear beginning,
middle, and end with certain aspects included between each major part to form a complex plot. In
the short story The Yellow Wall Paper , the author, Charlotte Perkins Gilman
, follows Aristotle s
schema for constructing an effective plot by drawing the readers emotionally to the characters;
including reversal, recognition, and suffering; and having a complex plot. Charlotte Perkins
Gilman emotionally draws readers to the characters in The Yellow Wall Paper. The unnamed
protagonist of the story persuades readers to pity and empathize with her from the beginning of
the story when she talks about her husband/physician, John, and her depression. She talks about
how John is helping her by putting her on rest cure and keeping her locked in a room with no
stimulation from the outside world when she says, I get unreasonably angry with John
sometimes. I m not sure I never used to be so sensitive. I think it is due to this nervous condition
(Gilman 315). When she describes her husband and blames her sensitivity on her condition, it is
hard to read because everyone else can see that she should be angry with John and he is the main
reason that she is in the mental state that she is in. What she characterized as help from her
husband is clearly seen by the audience as harmful and

Movie Pass Papers
The Movie Pass program was first brought to my attention by my daughter. She told me it was
something that her father and I might want to check out. We do enjoy going to the movies, so I
took her advice. I did some online research and found that the Movie Pass Company was founded
in 2011. Apparently, it has been around for a while, so I was surprised I had not heard of this
service before. I read some reviews about the program and I found a mixed bag of reviews. Some
individuals have found Movie pass to be an inexpensive way to see movies while others had
complaints about the service. The complaints were from people who claimed they had never
received their passes or they had problems using the pass once they arrived at the theater. Being an
optimist, I decided to take a gamble and go with the positive reviews. I went to their website and
ordered two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start using the passes I had to download the movie pass app onto our phones. A couple of days
later we decided to go see a movie at our local movie theater. When we arrived there I discovered
the movie pass app on my phone would not display the location of the theater, so I could not
check in. Feeling frustrated and no longer in the mood to see a show we headed home. I started
thinking maybe the naysayers were right and this deal was too good to be true. On the drive
home, my daughter called to see how we enjoyed the movie. I told her about the problem I had
encountered while trying to use the pass. After some thought my tech savvy daughter asked me if
the location device on my phone was turned on. Upon checking my phone I found my location
app was turned off, so I promptly turned it on. Still feeling a little apprehensive we went to the
theater the next day to try again. To my relief, we did not encounter any problems. We attended an
afternoon show which cost around nine dollars a ticket. This meant our movie passes had just

Jean Baptiste Lamarck And Charles Darwin s Theory Of...
Trends in Evolution
Background information: Jean Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin both thought and had ideas
on how life on Earth got to be the way it is now. Unlike lots other people at that time (1800 s), they
both thought that life had changed gradually over many years and an extended time and was still
changing, that living things change to be better suited and adapted to their environments. Lamarck
is best known for his Theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics. He said that change is made
by what the organisms want or need. For example, Lamarck believed that giraffes stretched their
necks to reach food. Their descendants and later generations inherited the resulting long necks.
Lamarck also believed that evolution happens according to a prearranged plan and that the results
have already been decided. (NECSI, 2012). Darwin, on the other hand said that organisms are all
different and that those which happen to have variations that help them to survive in their
environments survive and have more offspring. The offspring are born with their parents helpful
traits, and as they reproduce, individuals with that trait make up more of the population. Other
individuals, that are not so well altered, die off. Darwin also believed that evolution does not
happen according to any sort of plan.
We now know that there are four basic parts by which biological evolution takes place. These
include mutation, migration, genetic drift, and natural selection. Each of these

Coming of Age in Mississippi Essay example
The first main event that I believe led to Anne Moody becoming an activist for Civil Rights was
when she was younger, her cousin George Lee was babysitting and he burned down the house in
a fit of rage and when Daddy gets home he blames it on Essie Mae (Anne Moody). This
foreshadows all of life s injustices that will be thrown her way. The next time was when she made
friends with white neighbors and they decided to go to the movies, Anne couldn t sit with her
friends, she had to sit in the balcony with all of the other blacks. She did not understand why it was
this way. Another event was when she was in high school, she changes her name to Anne Moody,
and a white boy, whose name was Emmitt Till who was visiting from Chicago, whistled at a... Show

She showed them that they could be equal. The only difference was the color of the skin. She
taught them that that wasn t even a big difference. She fought segregation her entire life.
The most drastic incident that happened to Anne was when she was working in Canton,
Mississippi for a cause of voter registration. People involved in the movement are dying left and
right, and this becomes very discouraging to her. She finds out that she is on the KKK black list
and fears for her life. She finds out that her family is also afraid and they stop talking to her. She
quits her job and moves back to Canton and goes back to her family. She sees how complacent
her family is and this frustrates her. Her family treated her like a stranger, and when she graduated
from Tougaloo, no one showed up for her graduation. In the end of the book, McKinley is
murdered in front of nonviolent civil rights activists. Anne Moody wonders if things will ever work
out.
Growing up in the north, and being white, we were taught in school what the conditions were in
the south and all over America for blacks. I never really thought much of it, like many kids my age,
because it never affected me. I ve been told by teachers, speakers, and whoever else my school
would bring in to tell us about what it was like for blacks back in the 1940 s and the 1950 s. After I

Child Labour In Ethiopia Essay
Introduction
Child labour is a very real problem in the world today, and although it is declining, progress is
happening at a slow and unequal pace. Child labour by the International Labour Organization is
defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that
is harmful to physical and mental development (Diallo, Etienne, Mehran, 2013, p. 2). In the most
extreme forms of child labour it could account for child enslavement, separation from their
families, exposure to serious hazards and illnesses and being left to fend for themselves on the
streets (Dinopoulos Zhao, 2007). In order for certain types of work to be included as child labour
depends on the child s age, the type of work, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To further my argument I will use Ethiopia as a case study to show how globalization has
provided the push for countries to acknowledge the problem of child labour and create actions to
fix it. This paper will be divided as follows: firstly I will provide a brief background on child
labour in the world; secondly I will provide the situation in Ethiopia; thirdly I will present the
actions that the government has placed to combat child labour in accordance with my argument;
lastly, I will give my recommendations regarding the implications of the actions of the Ethiopian
government.
Child Labour in the World Today
In 2008, there were approximately 215 million child labourers, aged 5 17, in the world. According
to the International Labour Organization, the number of child labourers globally fell by 3% from
the years of 2004 2008 which is slower in comparison to the 2000 2004 period that had an 11%
decrease (Diallo, Etienne, Mehran, 2013).There has also been a 15% decrease in the number of
girls in child labour in contrast to boys who are having their work increase (United Nations, 2013).
Among them, 115 million children were in hazardous work which includes: prostitution,
agriculture, mining, militia, construction, manufacturing, service industries, hotels, bars, and
domestic service (Cigno, Rosati, Guarcello, 2002). The terms hazard and risk are often used with

The Characteristics Of Fashion In Ancient Egypt
Egypt is in the north east corner of Africa, connecting it to the middle east. Its location, gave
ancient Egypt the means to incredible resources to create a fashion revolution. They used these
resources to make shoes, clothes, jewelry, and headdresses. The more elaborate fashion was
worn by the royal families. For each one I will be discussing how they were made, where and
when they were worn, along with why they were worn. Fashion was used as creative outlet to
appease the gods and show class status. Most of the clothing was worn repeatedly due to expense.
I will also discuss how the ancient Egyptians would have laundered their clothes and mended them.
Cosmetics and fragrances where also a huge part of the upper class Egyptians life style.
Egyptian clothing was produced by mainly women, either in the home or in workshops run by the
nobles. The process of making clothing in ancient Egypt was not a simple one, it truly took talent
to make the articles of clothing so elegant. In order to start making clothing you needed to make
linen. The men would first harvest the flax plant, then they would proceed to beat and comb the
plant until they could withdraw all the fibers. The fibers where then spun on spindles into thread
and then the thread was places on a loom. The loom were two types of looms, one made from
simply hammering long wooden pegs into the ground and another with a frame and pegs that
would lean up against a wall. The women who made the fabrics where called

Communism And The End Of History
Humankind is constantly striving to reach a point in history where war ceases and every person
on earth unites under a single cause. Articles like The Dell Theory, The End of History, and The
Return of Geopolitics all offer a unique viewpoint on what will prevent war in the future, what
the ideal political system is, and how to reach it. First, The End of History argues that when all
countries unite together in practicing liberal democracy, humankind will have reached the end
point of ideological evolution. In addition, The Dell Theory is about a man who orders a Dell
laptop and proceeds to track the process of its creation to a myriad of countries. He uses this
experiment to try to prove that all countries are tied in some way by trade and... Show more content

After the Cold War liberalism was supposed to be the main form of government ending
geopolitics. However, the end of the war did not mean the end of other forms of government
causing geopolitics to still be an issue today. Although geopolitics is an issue Thomas Friedman
is trying to solve by the use of the Dell Theory and the Golden Arch Theory of Conflict
Prevention. Another theory that is trying to ending violence and wars is the theory of the end of
history. The theory of the End of History is when every country has a liberal democracy
government causing the world to never go to war. In order for the End of History to come Mr.
Friedman s theories have to continue to work and if they do not work then war will continue to
happen over land. The Dell Theory is going to continue to work while the End of History has not

The Effects Of Pregnancy On Your House
By week 36 you may want to clean your house and make sure that it is spic and span, awaiting
your little one. This phase of pregnancy is called the nesting stage, which is nature s way of
making sure you have time to be with your baby after delivery with no household chores holding
you back. While it is a natural tendency to want everything done, don t go overboard. Remember
that you are in your third trimester and need to take it easy. Changes happening to your body in
week 36 Thanks to the nesting instincts in you, all the exhaustion of the third trimester gets
replaced completely by a renewed sense of vigor. Here are the major physical changes
happening to you in week 36: Getting into a comfortable sleeping position becomes harder by
the day. With only two sides to switch between, you may find that your hips are aching from the
pressure. Try cushy, comfortable pillows or a padded blanket around and underneath you. They
will cushion your hips, relieve the ache and help you fall asleep faster. Most babies get into a
head down position by now. When they do, you might discover that the bathroom becomes your
home. Do not reduce your water intake in the hopes of making fewer bathroom trips. Try
reducing the caffeine intake as coffee and tea are known to be diuretics. Walking might get
difficult if your baby moves into a cephalic presentation or head down position. It feels like your
baby will fall out if you move. It is just the pressure of your baby s head against the

How Far can Individuals Influence an Orgnization s Culture
Drawing on scholarly articles and theories discussed throughout the module, critically examine how
far individuals can influence an organisation s culture
In the modern, world the bonds of organizations share our lives: from being born in a hospital,
entered into the registry of birth, marriages and deaths which tracks the entire populace and
changes in it. Almost every aspect of our everyday life and, indeed, our deaths will be shared by
organization of one kind or another. (Clegg. et al, 2011 p.6). Humanity is the linchpin of any
establishment, which itself was made for human beings. Range of organizational culture, which they
bring to the organization is very wide, it is determined by the uniqueness of each person. Genetic
base is unique to each individual, and explains some of the differences of people. Individuals who
fall into the cycle of different environments and situations can change their individual
characteristics. One of the definition of organizational culture is that Organization culture a set of
shared, often implicit assumptions, beliefs, value, and sense making procedures that influences and
guides the behavior and thinking of organizational members, and is in turn continuously enacted
and reinforced or changed by the behaviour of organizational member (Martin and Fellenz, 2010
p.481). The following essay will evaluate that how far individuals can determine an organization s
culture by using theories, which will serve to demonstrate

Comparing The Genesis Flood And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Throughout the Genesis Flood, Atrahasis Flood and the Epic of Gilgamesh flood, there are
many different ways to interpret the different views of The Flood. These different narratives in
these stories have their own explanation on how this myth took place and the different beliefs
that occurred during this flood. The way you portray each narrative is based on what exactly
your beliefs are. When comparing the Genesis Flood narrative to that of the Gilgamesh Flood
narrative, there are many similar symbols throughout both narratives. In the Genesis version of
the flood, God had chosen to send the flood because the humankind he had created was evil and
he saw their wickedness. For my par, I am going to bring a good of waters on the earth, to
destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth
shall die (Genesis 6:18). This excerpt from the narrative shows that one God had chosen to send
the flood to destroy all humankind that he had originally created. Just like this narrative, the
Gilgamesh Flood narrative, a God by the name of Enlil orders a flood to destroy humankind.
Decided that the great gods should make a flood (Gilgamesh XI 109). This quote states how that
a flood was to be sent for the city of Shuruppak. In the Genesis narrative there was a righteous
man by the name of Noah that was chosen to build the ark. Make yourself an ark of cypress
wood; make rooms in the ark and cover it inside and out with a pitch (Genesis

Explain How The Enlightenment Influenced The American...
How ideas from the enlightenment influenced the American Revolution Our nation was born from
the idea that each person should have their own independence. They thought that the only way to
get that independence was to separate ourselves from not only King George III, but the entire
country of Great Britain. To make sure that there would not be any more tyrants to lead our country;
our founding fathers used ideas from the Enlightenment to establish our government and to ensure
our future as a nation. Many philosophers of the Enlightenment period had a crucial influence on
the documents that created The United States of America. John Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, and
Rousseau all had a hand in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. John Locke had
a focus on natural rights. He thought people were peaceful and moral. He believed in a direct
democracy, a government in which the people vote. Montesquieu sharply criticized an absolute

the rest of the philosophers believed in. When drafting the Declaration of Independence, Thomas
Jefferson used ideas from John Locke. Jefferson expressed Locke s belief that if any government is
found unfitting for the citizens, then the citizens have the right to over throw their government.
Jefferson also used Rousseau s belief that all men had rights and were created equal. James
Madison used ideas from Voltaire s belief that humans had certain freedoms. Madison turned

Social Anxiety Disorders
The diagnosis of social phobia requires the symptoms to be consistent and persistent , as well as
causing significant distress which damage social, occupational, or other important areas of life

Why Is Leonardo Da Vinci Important
Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most famous artists from the Italian Renaissance. He was not only a
painter, but had many talents in sculpting, science, music and architecture. He made amazing
scientific discoveries throughout his life, which led to advancements in the field. He is mostly
known for his paintings, the Mona Lisa, and The Last Supper. I believe Leonardo Da Vinci
compares well to Albert Einstein. Both Da Vinci, and Einstein were very involved in science, and
discovered many amazing things. I think Albert Einstein is important because he developed the
theory of relativity, and the mass energy equivalence (E=MC^2). Leonardo, like Einstein also
studied physics. He used physics to help create many of his inventions. While Leonardo kept private
journals, Einstein wrote many scientific essays that showed his studies. He sent these off to many
scientists to have an experts opinion on what he theorized. Both of these men studied many
interesting, and helpful things that evolved science into what it is now.

The Aeneid By Virgil, The Oresteia, And Sappho By Sappho
Rationality affects the way we behave, but emotions change our behavior and drive us to behave
the way we do. People are driven by emotions, yet we can not allow them to be the only thing that
controls our actions and behaviors. Rationality helps control our emotions and prevents them from
getting too out of hand. There are three texts from seminar that demonstrate this idea of emotional
power: The Aeneidby Virgil, The Oresteia by Aeschylus, and Sappho by Sappho. In The Aeneid,
the text discusses Aeneas journey to Italy and the many encounters he had. It was in this text that
the females displayed emotional power. The Oresteia is a play about murder, revenge, and justice

Dido attempts to rid herself of her emotions by burning every trace of Aeneas, yet her emotions

How Does Dodger Affect Oliver s Life
Similar in the novel Oliver Twist, Oliver had characters that impacted his life greatly, which also
helped to develop his character further. Each of these characters being Dodger, Fagin and Mr.

was actually Oliver s first friend ever, but later Oliver quickly realizes that Dodger was not the best
person to be friends with. Dodger influence Oliver s life badly by showing Oliver how to

kind of person Dodger is. The person that Dodger stole from was Mr. Brownlow, Mr. Brownlow

that he mistaken him for a thief, when Oliver was brought to court, it took a lot persuading for

These two characters influence Oliver s life by doing the complete opposite of each other,
Dodger did not care where Oliver ended up as long as he was safe, whereas Mr.Brownlow gave
Oliver a place to stay, and tried to raise him like his own. Mr. Brownlow was similar to Matthew

The Importance Of Social Class In Great Expectations By...
In Great Expectations, Charles Dickens shows that social classes existed but didn t limit the
characters. The main character Pip starts off as a lower class blacksmith but throughout the book
makes his way up the social classes. The social ranking a character had based how people treated
them and how the character thought of themselves. Helping others can benefit success in climbing
the social classes. Charles Dickensin Great Expectations, portrays that the characters were not
limited to their social class, but that social rankings existed. Pip shows how hard work can make
changes to social classes. Social classes can change with hard work. In Great Expectations by
Charles Dickens, Pip is portrayed wealthy in his lifestyle compared to when he used to work as a
poor blacksmith with common clothes. In the courtyard I took the opportunity of being alone in
the courtyard to look at my course hands and my common boots (Dickens, 781). This shows
how Pip is becoming aware that his clothes were the same as any other poor person and how he
wanted to change his lifestyle to become a gentleman. While Estella is next to Pip he, we folded
all my bills up uniformly, docketed each on the back, and tied the whole into a symmetrical
bundle (Dickens, 861). This is suggesting that Pip has accomplished his goal of changing his
social status and becoming a real gentleman with his hard work showing that social classes do not
limit characters that they could move up or down the ranks. Dickens portrays how characters are
not limited and held back due to the social level they had and how hard work helps achieve goals.
People were based on their social classes. Charles Dickens shows that the way people in the
society were treated and how Pip was self conscious because he was in the lower class. Pip
thought only that he was a common labouring boy; that my hands were coarse; that my boots
were thick; that I had fallen into a despicable habit of calling knaves jacks; that I was much more
ignorant than I had considered myself last night, and generally that I was in a low lived bad way.
(Dickens, 782). This shows how Pip thought of himself having a bad life because he was poor and
how thoughts of people being rich unlike him made

The Ancient Civilization Of Egypt
Egypt was an ancient civilisation found in the northern Africa. Like many early civilizations, it
developed along a river, that being the Nile River. It was important that it developed along a river
such as the Nile because it provided water for agriculture and drinking, which were necessary for
survival in a permanent settlement or civilization. South of Egyptwas the civilization of Nubia, or
Kush. This was important to Egypt s culture because the back and forth conquering of each other
that went on led to the integration of one another s culture. Egypt adopted Nubian traditions and
vice versa. Egypt was a prominent, African civilization for roughly 1500 years, being divided
into three separate kingdoms, those being Old, Middle, and New. The Old Kingdom through the
New Kingdom lasted from about 2575 b.c.e to 1075 b.c.e. The Old Kingdom was established in
roughly 2575 b.c.e. and lasted to about 2130 b.c.e. During the Old Kingdom, leaders called
pharaohs created a strong, central, organised government for Egypt. Theocratic rule was present
throughout Egyptian government, meaning that Egypt s government was headed and led by
religious leaders. The chief religious adviser to the pharaoh was their vizier. Pharaohs of the Old
Kingdom established a bureaucratic form of government, meaning it had varying levels of authority
and departments tasked with handling specific objectives. The Middle Kingdom of Egypt endured
from approximately 1938 b.c.e. to 1630 b.c.e. The Middle

Why Is Othello Black In The Play
In the play Othello I believe the character Othello should be played by a black man for many
reasons, One being in the play they describe Othello as a black in many different ways, most
being derogatory, Othello in the play we watch was a white man that painted himself black
because they didn t want a black actor on stage another reason is letting the character have an
actor more true for the part it would make no sense to have a black actor painted white for a play
and vise versa.
Othello in the play was described as a black man mostly in derogatory terms such as thick lips,
African horse, a noble brave man. The man is black in the book he should be in the acting play,
it is so incredibly offensive that they have a white person painted black, because they don t want
to hire a black man. They way I see it is if the whole play they talk about a black man wouldn t it
make the most sense to have the actor be a black man. I think regardless of the hate and
discrimination of a black actor the acting team should have swallowed their racist pride and let an

Genghis Khan As A Hero
Almost everyone in the world has heard the name Genghis Khan, but how they view his legacy
varies greatly depending on what part of the world they live in. In Europe and the Americas the
name Genghis Khan is synonymous with barbarism, cruelty, murder and destruction, but in much
of Asia he is viewed as a hero, a unifier and a military genius. Even his date of birth is a subject of
some debate. Whatever perspective you choose to take, the one thing that is undeniable, is the fact
that a boy named Temujin, the son of a Mongol chieftain, would change the face of an entire
continent.
Genghis Khan was born sometime between 1155 and 1167 as Temujin Borjigin of the clan Kiyat
(Quezzaire). His father was an important leader in the clan named Yesugei who at the time of
his birth was at war with a neighboring group of nomadic tribes called the Tartars. Temujin was
named after a Tartar chief whom his father had recently slain in a raid (Hartog 13). At the age of
9, Temujin was sent to live with his mother s tribe where where he would choose his future bride.
Upon his return from delivering his son, Yesugei died and Temujin was sent back to his family,
but the tribal leaders denied him his father s position as a tribal leader due to his young age. The
tribe shunned and abandoned Temujin and his family and they were forced to survive on their own.
During their time on their own Temujin and his family survived by hunting and fishing. It was
during this time that the future leader of the

Culture Jamming And Parody Advertisement
Out of all the topics discussed this week, culture jamming is one that certainly piqued my
interest. Primarily, culture jamming is defined as a tactic used by social activists to change the
public s point of view and bring attention to the negative aspects of certain products. This
communication tool achieves its goal by making parodies of advertisements of popular brands,
ranging from stores, fast food chains, and even beverages. For example, a parody ad for Pepsi
reads Corn Syrup, where the logo of Pepsi is used as the letter o. Another example is of
McDonald s, where the logo of McDonald s, M, is inverted to a W, and reads I m gainin it. Both of
these parodies reflect the product s unhealthy components. Christine Harold separates

Extrinsic Skin Aging
There are many reasons the skin gradually ages, including the natural aging process where skin
becomes thin and more susceptible to gravity and genetics. This is called intrinsic aging and is
unavoidable. However, there are extrinsic reasons why the skin ages and the ultraviolet (UV) rays
from the sun account for 80 percent of extrinsic skin ageing according to studies reported in the
Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigatory Dermatology medical journal.
It is well documented that UV exposure is a threat to healthy skin. According to the World Health
Organization, it is a known carcinogenic to humans. This means it has been scientifically proven
that skin cancer may develop after the skin has been exposed to the sun.
Ultraviolet radiation is found in sunlight. It is classified into UVA and UVB. Both of these
contribute to premature aging in the skin and can be avoided by the use of protective clothing, hats
and sunscreen. The first sign that the skin has been affected is a sunburned or even tanned skin.
However, there is also damage that cannot be seen. The DNA in the skin cells is also damaged, so
the cells no longer have their protective function. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the sun also breaks down collagen, which is an important connective tissue in the skin, and impairs
the skin from producing new collagen. Without the connective tissue, the skin becomes weak and
inflexible, so gravity has a greater impact and the skin ages prematurely very

The American Dream, as defined by Cullen, is starting your goal off with a little and ending with
more; it s like a business, you invest in it in order to gain more money. Usually, people will define
the American Dream as being able to achieve your goal because everyone is offered opportunities.
Cullen does acknowledge that people are born with different opportunities, so he talks about the

Morality In Kate Chopin s The Awakening
Value is a subjective domain. What is insignificant to one is priceless to another. In that
subjectivity, one tends to measure value in cost what would you give for this? Some things come
cheap, a minute of your day, a dollar of your savings. Others demand more, a piece of your soul,
your mortal life altogether.
In Kate Chopin s revolutionary final masterpiece, The Awakening, Edna Pontellier is a young
married mother of two in luxurious nineteenth century New Orleans. Finding herself walled in by
the oppression of patriarchal standards for a woman of means, Edna struggles with her identity
and values. She watches as the women around her revel in their roles as wives and mothers, as
they play their roles with the ease of ministering angels. Unable, or rather unwilling, to submit to
these arbitrary posts, Edna ends her life in a manner as theatrical as it is tragic. She drowns herself
in the ocean of the resort her family summers at. As she feels herself slipping into the anesthetic lull
of death, Edna believes she is escaping the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

life at all. In death she takes ownership of her fate, sealing it for herself. This final act defines
Edna, by revealing not only her values but how calamitously far she will go to protect them.
Edna values herself, her freedom, her own identity. In light of Edna s sacrifice, the values of the
surrounding characters come to light as well. Leonce, her husband, values obedience and social
convention, as does Edna s friend, Madame Ratignolle. She serves as a foil to Edna in her aptitude
for domestic pursuits as Edna struggles to even keep the appearance of contentment. Edna s mentor
and the town eccentric, Mme Reisz s values become clear in her refusal to conform to standard
accordances. Both she and Edna prioritize their independence above all

Colin s Foreclosure Case
Next, Colin serves as an example of identity foreclosure and the impact early maturation can
have on individuals. According to Marcia s theory of development, identity foreclosure occurs
when an individual lives a life that was chosen for them, specifically by a parent or guardian,
instead of making their own decisions. In Colin s case, this can be seen by the fact that his father
forced him to start playing basketball because he himself played basketball when he was younger.
Instead of going against his father s wishes, Colin simply accepted the fate that was laid out for

Homegrown Terrorism
Terrorism is terrorist activity either made on one s homeland or made on another person s country,
which is/has become a huge concern for the United States. After the attacks of September 11, 2001,
the US has taken huge measures to make sure there were not foreign attacks made on US soil
again, but what about domestic attacks? The attacks of 9/11 left more than 3,000 civilians dead and
more injured, but the number of deaths caused by homegrown terrorism far exceeds that number.
Because of the amount of homegrown terrorism in the US one starts to think is homegrown
terrorism a bigger threat to the US than international terrorism?
Post 9/11 Attacks Made on the US
In 2001, under Resolution 1373, all 192 members of the UN agreed that terrorism a serious
domestic crime, abiding by or abetting to terrorism, or material helping terrorists would be serious
offenses. Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security expressed her huge concern on the rise
of homegrown terrorism. Since 9/11 there have been 37 domestic terrorist attacks on US soil. The
Center on Global Counterterrorism Cooperation states that the dangers of the al Qaeda organization
have receded due to the growing threat of homegrown terrorists. The most talked about homegrown

Martin Luther s Disillusionment
Martin Luther is an extraordinary and revolutionary man who played a significant role in both the
Protestant Reformation and Christian history. He was a priest, theologian, professor, and composer.
In 1510, Luther went to Rome for his monastic order. While at Rome, he noticed the immoral and
irreverent practices of the Roman Catholic clergy which contradicted the teachings of the Bible and
became disillusioned. The reasons for Luther s disillusionment were the careless attitude of the
priests when speaking Mass, the selling of indulgences, the response of the priests towards his

The Slowdown Of Global Warming
The Slowdown of Global Warming The recent decrease in the heating percentage of the Northern
Hemisphere could be a consequence of internal variability of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation a
natural phenomenon associated with ocean surface temperatures, according to Penn State
investigators. Some researchers have in the past attributed a portion of Northern Hemispheric
warming to a warm phase of the AMO, said Michael E. Mann, Distinguished Professor of
Meteorology. The true AMO signal, instead, appears likely to have been in a cooling phase in
recent decades, offsetting some of the anthropogenic warming temporarily. (Michael E. Mann, April

Because the scientists know the actual AMO signal for their artificial statistics from the start, they
could show that the differenced AMO accession allowed the right signal. They also approved the
detrended AMO accession and saw that it didn t come up with the known internal differentiality.
Michael and his partners also took a separate path in concluding the AMO, which they report online
in a special Frontier paper in Geophysical Research Letters. They contrast analyzation temperature
diversity with a number of historic model reproductions to make a copy for internal variability of
the AMO that depletes the impact of outer forcing, involving greenhouse gases and aerosols. They
call this the differenced AMO due to the internal variability comes from the difference between
analysis and the models estimates of the forced component of North Atlantic temperature variation.
They saw that their conclusions for the latest decade fall within expected multidecadal variability.
The detrended approach manufactured an AMO signal with a higher amplitude, both high and low
crests were greater than in the differenced AMO signal and in the artificial data. They also found
that the crests and troughs of the oscillation were misrepresented using the detrending accession,
making the maximums and minimums to form at separate times than in the differenced AMO
reactions. While the detrended AMO accessing makes a spurious temperature increase

The Major Impacts Of Natural Disasters In Turkey
Turkey faces numerous natural disasters a year. The top three are earthquakes, floods, and
landslides. Earthquakes have cost the economy over a billion dollars in the past decade. 66% of
the country is located in active fault zones. On average, 950 die from earthquakes each year, and
this is the 3rd highest rate in the world. Around 15% of the total disaster losses are caused by
floods, and around 16% of total disaster losses are caused by landslides. Since there are so many
natural disasters, an emergency project is created to help deal with these disasters. The Istanbul
Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Project (ISMEP), was created over 10
years ago. Some of their goals include strengthening the capacity of emergency management and
enhancing the development laws and building codes, so buildings are not as likely to be
destroyed and people will be safer. Additionally, there are disaster management centers. On the
European side of Turkey, HASDAL is there to provide security and safety for residents affected.
The counterpart on the Asian side of Turkey is known as FSM KOZYATAGI. These centers are
vital assets for the country in times of natural disaster (Erdurmus, n.d.). These natural disasters can

Eosinophilic Esophagitis Research Paper
Eosinophilic esophagitis
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic, immune mediated condition (T helper cell 2 allergen
mediated process) and an increasingly recognized clinical pathologic entity. Current criteria
include: symptoms of esophageal dysfunction, minimum 15 eosinophils in at least one high power
microscopy field on biopsy and exclusion of other potential causes as the most important
differential diagnosis is GERD [13]. Symptoms can be non specific. In infancy, the major
complaints include food intolerance and failure to thrive. Abdominal pain, food impaction, nausea
and emesis can be found in adolescents [13]. The suggestive signs of EoE on endoscopy

Associated morbidities of SIBO are anemia, malabsorption, and malnutrition [14].
Diagnosis can be made with the hydrogen glucose breath test. However, a methane measurement
improves the sensitivity of the hydrogen breath test and decreases false positive results. Hydrogen
production originates from non digestable lactose. In patients with CF, the colonic flora frequently
does not produce hydrogen, whereas the methane production is higher [19].
Treatment (Table 3) includes antibiotics, especially orally, with improvement of fat digestion and
absorption [15]. Other treatment options are pre and probiotics. Prebiotics are selectively fermented
ingredients that promote specific changes in the composition and activity in the gastrointestinal
microflora that will benefit the flora. They are not metabolized by pathogenic bacterial strains and
induce a proliferation of the beneficial microbionts [20]. Probiotics are live bacteria that provide a
positive effect on the inflammatory response of the gastrointestinal tract by improving the
endothelial intestinal barrier, diminishing the bacterial adhesion, lowering the pH intraluminal and
enhancing the production of nitrogen oxide [19, 20]. De Lisle et al. also showed a positive effect
of laxativa and N acetylcysteine. Mucus accumulation was reduced by 43% and 50% respectively

The Pros And Cons Of Purity s Chocolate Milk
As kids just about everybody enjoyed that sweet tasting drink, chocolate milk. Today even adults
enjoy the drink. Why do so many people of all ages appreciate the taste? Probably because its
chocolate and milk combined, so whats not to like! Chocolate milk has been around since the
early 1700s when it first saw the light of day in Jamaica, but Purity s brand has been around since
1946 with its headquarters being in Nashville Tennessee. The time between the 1700s to 2016 the
taste has not changed very much, but the products ingredients have changed. Although Purity s
chocolate milk is a tasty drink, the ingredients in the packaging as well as the milk itself may raise
suspicion, or concern, if one is following Michael Pollan s food rules First,... Show more content on

Some milks are packaged in cartons, others are packaged in plastic bottles. Plastic bottles have
been but on blast for years due to the research conducted that shows that they are possibly
harmful to our health. A few myths that surround plastic bottles are that they are only harmful
when they re warmed up, the plastic is only harmful to small children, and you need to avoid
only certain types of plastic bottles (Smart Publications). None of these are true just about all
plastic bottles can be harmful, but usually are not. The label for what kind of bottle is being
used is engraved on the bottom of the bottle. The specific type of bottle that Purity uses for their
chocolate milk is #2 HDPE. This particular type of bottle has a few ingredients most people have
never heard of such as Resins made from ethylene and propylene resins and have flame retardants
added (Smart Publications). After some research is done on ethylene one can find out Ethylene is
a small hydrocarbon gas. It is naturally occurring. Some fruit will produce ethylene as ripening
begins (WSU) Because this gas is naturally occurring and fruits produce it to help with the
ripening process, one shouldn t be concerned about ethylene anymore. Propylene, on the other hand
does raise some concern even after researching. According to www.linde gas.com Propylene is
similar to propane, and it has a double bond which gives it a combustion advantage. This fuel gas

On the Train by Gillian Clarke, Patrolling Barnegat by...
I m going to compare the use of the poetic devices to portray fear and confusion in 3 different
types of poems, they are; On the Train by Gillian Clarke, Patrolling Barnegat by Walt Whitman,
and the poem Storm on the Island by the one and only Seamus Heaney. These poems all portray the
feeling of confusion, often it is linked within a theme of some war. Walt Whitmanuses some
repetition to enhance the power of the stormhe is trying to describe. Wild, Wild the storm, and the
sea high running
The repetition of the word wild in this line helps to enforce the power of the deadly storm and
nature. Whitman also uses personification in the line where he compares the movement of the sea
to someone running, as if he is saying the sea will move ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wolves howl into silent telephones Here Gillian Clarke is talking about the people that have
lost someone in the crash. She uses a metaphor of a wolf to describe the people trying to contact
their loved ones, only to get silence, or an answer to voice mail. The use of the word howl is
vividly describing the people crying into the phones, desperate to find out how their friends and
family are doing. Gillian Clarke s use of language helps a lot of people who may not have been in
the situation themselves to understand the emotional distress involved. Also, the one thing people
think of when they think of wolves is their distinctive way of howling, which makes this line even
more effective.
Walt Whitman uses Personification numerous amount of times in his poem; his clever use of the
technique helps the reader understand his descriptions more easily.
Shouts of demoniac laughter fitfully piercing and pealing In this Whitman compares a storm to one
of the most fear provoking things possible, the words demoniac laughter instantly make you think
of some sort of an evil being, laughing at some destruction that he has caused. This then ties in with
the theme of the storm being uncontrollable. Walt Whitman also uses personification; he says that
the storm is laughing . Obviously a storm cannot laugh, so Whitman is portraying an assumption
that the way the storm seems to enjoy being totally omnipotent. Also Whitman also uses two

Four Hallmarks Of Phi Reflection Paper
As our year of service is drawing to an end and as we begin to reflect on the 4 Hallmarks of Phi
Theta Kappa which we have been exposed to over the last year and have forever change our
implicit and explicit decision making, not only in the business environment but in our own
personal lives we are thankful to have been given the opportunity to acquire these disciplines
The 4 Hallmarks which are now embedded in who we have become are Scholarship, Leadership,
Service, and Fellowship which are the foundations of Phi Theta Kappa. These 4 Hallmarks are
centered on encouraging students to creating a well balance life. It is through videos, reading,

In learning the disciplines of the four hallmarks the members are growing in wisdom, knowledge,
and self discipline. While often in the beginning, we do not understand why we conduct these
events, workshops, or even the weekly meetings we find each leads us back to the original 4
Hallmarks. As we the members learn these qualities we cannot help but share with all that cross
our path in a given day. Our foundational tools allow us to set examples not only for ourselves
and the life we choose to live, but for all who will observe how Phi Theta Kappa s conduct their
lives on campus and off campus. The foundations or the 4 Hallmarks are to be embedded into
who we are becoming that as a member, the ability to practice what we are learning is a key. This
is one key we are allowed to put into practice each time we are involved with an event on campus
or off campus. It is a privilege and honor to be a part of the Phi Theta Kappa team. It is for this
reason that we nominate the outstanding Alpha Alpha Rho Chapter for this

Performance Management Plan Week four brings about the request for the development of a
performance management framework plan for Landslide Limousine via Atwood and Allen
Consulting firm. To develop a plan that will be beneficial to Landslide Limousine we will review
specific aspects of the business philosophy and methodologies in terms of relations to performance
management. In creating this performance management framework, we will use applicable
information provided by Landslide Limousine as well as make some general assumptions. We will
take recommendations that ultimately assist the client in developing their own Performance
Management Framework to include suggestions of key performance indicators, reporting metrics,
and the processes to maintain such resources. We will embrace a methodology that assists them in
acknowledging defined businessbenefits. The methodology is established first on key leadership
buy in, then by developing a structured appraisal method based on growth methodologies. This
approach puts the business in control with leading best practice focused around reasonable

disk and main memory are initiated through the following two operations: * input ( B ) transfers
the physical block B to main memory. * output ( B ) transfers the buffer block B to the disk, and
replaces the appropriate physical block there. * Each transaction T i has its private work area in
which local copies of all data items accessed and updated by it are kept. * T i s local copy of a data

Architecture People And Landscape Essay
Architecture, People and Landscape The idea of being able to walk on top of the building is
something that does not happen a lot. Connecting the public to the building should be more than
just creating a fascinating and interesting facade. My idea is to describe how a building is able
to connect to the people, by allowing them to not just walk inside or around but on top of the
building creating a public space within. The reason why I chose this topic is that I wanted to
make a connection to my studio project, and how I developed the idea for it. In addition, I wanted
to compare it to the OsloOperaHouseand how this assisted me in arriving at my final design. My
studio project and the Oslo Opera House have a different scale however, however I think they share
some similar concepts. The idea of togetherness, open space, and easy movement access to the
public, and most significantly its connection to the landscape.
Firstly, the location of the buildings is disparate, the Oslo Opera House(picture 1) does not really
have a connection to the landscape, since it is mostly part of the city surrounded by other
buildings and where traffic is heavy. There might be some connection between the Oslo Opera
House and the landscape of the river, which has influenced the design known as The Wave Wall .
My project studio (picture 2) has a huge connection to the landscape, which allowed me to work
around the landscape instead of being surrounded by buildings. The location of my

Education Reform In Michigan
Michigan is a bottom 10 state in education performance, according to one key recent measure. The
state s fourth graders fell to 41st from 38th in the National Assessment of Education Performance
reading test; other grade levels and subjects posted similarly dismal results. While other states are
making some progress in improving education quality, Michigan is stagnant. And don t think the
numbers are skewed by poor performing urban school districts suburban students also lag behind,
with just one third of white fourth graders hitting the proficient mark in reading. The latest
confirmation from the NAEP of the sorry state of Michigan s schools has a lot of folks talking
about what it will take to push the state back into the top tier. The... Show more content on

He s right for some teachers. The very best instructors should have no cap on their earnings
potential, and there should be a competitive market for their talent. The problem with Karmanos
idea is that there s no provision for merit pay in Michigan, lousy teachers and great teachers
make the same as long as they have equal seniority and education. That s a recipe for mediocrity
in any industry. Teacher quality won t significantly improve until pay is linked directly to
performance. There s also a strong Luddite strain in Michigan s education establishment.
Technology is often seen not as a tool to better convey information, but as a threat to teacher
jobs. But if technology allows a district to make sure all of its students learn from its very best
teachers, it s a dereliction not to use it. More than anything, education reform in Michigan is held
back by a lack of urgency, a state of denial about just how terribly the schools are performing.
Parents aren t screaming about those horrible NAEP scores. Michigan won t be a Top 10 education
state until they

Great Pacific Garbage Patch
For my service event, I attended a beach cleanup event in Indianola, which is in Kitsap County.
When I arrived, I met with twenty other participants and received instructions from a local
community member. We were given gloves, large orange plastic bags, smaller plastic bags, and
flags. The larger bags were for the garbage we collected, the smaller bags were for recyclable
items (such as aluminum cans and glass bottles), and the flags were for needles and similar items
that we could not collected safely. We divided into two group and headed in opposite directions
up the beach to collect all the debris we could find. Over my stretch of beach, I mostly found
Styrofoam and a wide variety of plastics including water bottles, lighters, pens,... Show more

However, beyond that, this is a subject that is of great importance to me. My long term goal is
to become a marine biologist and as such the health of the ocean is of the utmost importance to
me. Over the last few years I have chosen to research and write about environmental issue. One of
the main issues I researched was the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and how plastics in the ocean
affect marine life. Because of that, I understand the true impact that any debris, and particularly
plastics, have in the ocean. They entangle animals, hinder their digestion, and transport of
invasive species, to name just some examples. For these reasons, I believe that preventing debris
from entering the ocean is paramount. I realize that participating in one beach cleanup is not
going to save the ocean and the real problem lies in how humanity is using plastics. However, I
want to help contributions the wellbeing of the ocean. Ultimately, that is why I participated in a
beach cleanup event. Furthermore, Indianola is close to my home, so I was not only benefitting
the ocean, but my local community as well. While I cannot solve the ocean garbage problem, I
would like to be part of the solution, not the problem. Participating in beach cleanup events is my
way of doing

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Mercedes Ad Of The Red Sl...
What is it about an advertisement that makes people want to purchase that item? Could it be the
idea of showing it off, personal attraction, or utilizing it in everyday life? The advertisement I
chose to analyze does absolutely stunning in doing all three and more. The Mercedes ad of the
red SL class car gives off a romantic look due to the color of the car and the caption on the left;
and a rough and powerful look at the same time from the rigid mountainous background. The
images looks extremely realistic, like every detail of it was picked up by a high tech camera.
The main focus of the image is the front of the car closest to the foreground, with it going out
towards the other parts making it one elegant picture. Ethos, Pathos, and logos play a major role
in this ad to appeal to the audiences senses and attract the viewers the ad is aimed towards. This
ad does marvelous in using rhetorical techniques to appeal to the viewer and persuade them to
purchase this car. My ad has a mountainous background with a tint of blue in it, giving the
impression of it taking place in the morning and the feeling of the cool breeze right before the sun
rises. The sun can be seen beginning to rise on the right side slightly above the car; with the full
capacity of the suns light being obscured by the mountain in front of it. A body of water can be
seen cutting through the mountains almost behind the front of the car, adding to the images beauty.
There is a Mercedes symbol on the top right

  • 2. Summary Of The Yellow Wall-Paper To be effective means to be successful in producing a desired or intended result. According to Aristotle, the most effective way to construct the plot of a story is to have a clear beginning, middle, and end with certain aspects included between each major part to form a complex plot. In the short story The Yellow Wall Paper , the author, Charlotte Perkins Gilman , follows Aristotle s schema for constructing an effective plot by drawing the readers emotionally to the characters; including reversal, recognition, and suffering; and having a complex plot. Charlotte Perkins Gilman emotionally draws readers to the characters in The Yellow Wall Paper. The unnamed protagonist of the story persuades readers to pity and empathize with her from the beginning of the story when she talks about her husband/physician, John, and her depression. She talks about how John is helping her by putting her on rest cure and keeping her locked in a room with no stimulation from the outside world when she says, I get unreasonably angry with John sometimes. I m not sure I never used to be so sensitive. I think it is due to this nervous condition (Gilman 315). When she describes her husband and blames her sensitivity on her condition, it is hard to read because everyone else can see that she should be angry with John and he is the main reason that she is in the mental state that she is in. What she characterized as help from her husband is clearly seen by the audience as harmful and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Movie Pass Papers The Movie Pass program was first brought to my attention by my daughter. She told me it was something that her father and I might want to check out. We do enjoy going to the movies, so I took her advice. I did some online research and found that the Movie Pass Company was founded in 2011. Apparently, it has been around for a while, so I was surprised I had not heard of this service before. I read some reviews about the program and I found a mixed bag of reviews. Some individuals have found Movie pass to be an inexpensive way to see movies while others had complaints about the service. The complaints were from people who claimed they had never received their passes or they had problems using the pass once they arrived at the theater. Being an optimist, I decided to take a gamble and go with the positive reviews. I went to their website and ordered two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start using the passes I had to download the movie pass app onto our phones. A couple of days later we decided to go see a movie at our local movie theater. When we arrived there I discovered the movie pass app on my phone would not display the location of the theater, so I could not check in. Feeling frustrated and no longer in the mood to see a show we headed home. I started thinking maybe the naysayers were right and this deal was too good to be true. On the drive home, my daughter called to see how we enjoyed the movie. I told her about the problem I had encountered while trying to use the pass. After some thought my tech savvy daughter asked me if the location device on my phone was turned on. Upon checking my phone I found my location app was turned off, so I promptly turned it on. Still feeling a little apprehensive we went to the theater the next day to try again. To my relief, we did not encounter any problems. We attended an afternoon show which cost around nine dollars a ticket. This meant our movie passes had just about paid for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Jean Baptiste Lamarck And Charles Darwin s Theory Of... Trends in Evolution Background information: Jean Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin both thought and had ideas on how life on Earth got to be the way it is now. Unlike lots other people at that time (1800 s), they both thought that life had changed gradually over many years and an extended time and was still changing, that living things change to be better suited and adapted to their environments. Lamarck is best known for his Theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics. He said that change is made by what the organisms want or need. For example, Lamarck believed that giraffes stretched their necks to reach food. Their descendants and later generations inherited the resulting long necks. Lamarck also believed that evolution happens according to a prearranged plan and that the results have already been decided. (NECSI, 2012). Darwin, on the other hand said that organisms are all different and that those which happen to have variations that help them to survive in their environments survive and have more offspring. The offspring are born with their parents helpful traits, and as they reproduce, individuals with that trait make up more of the population. Other individuals, that are not so well altered, die off. Darwin also believed that evolution does not happen according to any sort of plan. We now know that there are four basic parts by which biological evolution takes place. These include mutation, migration, genetic drift, and natural selection. Each of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Coming of Age in Mississippi Essay example The first main event that I believe led to Anne Moody becoming an activist for Civil Rights was when she was younger, her cousin George Lee was babysitting and he burned down the house in a fit of rage and when Daddy gets home he blames it on Essie Mae (Anne Moody). This foreshadows all of life s injustices that will be thrown her way. The next time was when she made friends with white neighbors and they decided to go to the movies, Anne couldn t sit with her friends, she had to sit in the balcony with all of the other blacks. She did not understand why it was this way. Another event was when she was in high school, she changes her name to Anne Moody, and a white boy, whose name was Emmitt Till who was visiting from Chicago, whistled at a... She fought segregation her entire life. The most drastic incident that happened to Anne was when she was working in Canton, Mississippi for a cause of voter registration. People involved in the movement are dying left and right, and this becomes very discouraging to her. She finds out that she is on the KKK black list and fears for her life. She finds out that her family is also afraid and they stop talking to her. She quits her job and moves back to Canton and goes back to her family. She sees how complacent her family is and this frustrates her. Her family treated her like a stranger, and when she graduated from Tougaloo, no one showed up for her graduation. In the end of the book, McKinley is murdered in front of nonviolent civil rights activists. Anne Moody wonders if things will ever work out. Growing up in the north, and being white, we were taught in school what the conditions were in the south and all over America for blacks. I never really thought much of it, like many kids my age, because it never affected me. I ve been told by teachers, speakers, and whoever else my school would bring in to tell us about what it was like for blacks back in the 1940 s and the 1950 s. • 6. Child Labour In Ethiopia Essay Introduction Child labour is a very real problem in the world today, and although it is declining, progress is happening at a slow and unequal pace. Child labour by the International Labour Organization is defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development (Diallo, Etienne, Mehran, 2013, p. 2). In the most extreme forms of child labour it could account for child enslavement, separation from their families, exposure to serious hazards and illnesses and being left to fend for themselves on the streets (Dinopoulos Zhao, 2007). In order for certain types of work to be included as child labour depends on the child s age, the type of work, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To further my argument I will use Ethiopia as a case study to show how globalization has provided the push for countries to acknowledge the problem of child labour and create actions to fix it. This paper will be divided as follows: firstly I will provide a brief background on child labour in the world; secondly I will provide the situation in Ethiopia; thirdly I will present the actions that the government has placed to combat child labour in accordance with my argument; lastly, I will give my recommendations regarding the implications of the actions of the Ethiopian government. Child Labour in the World Today In 2008, there were approximately 215 million child labourers, aged 5 17, in the world. According to the International Labour Organization, the number of child labourers globally fell by 3% from the years of 2004 2008 which is slower in comparison to the 2000 2004 period that had an 11% decrease (Diallo, Etienne, Mehran, 2013).There has also been a 15% decrease in the number of girls in child labour in contrast to boys who are having their work increase (United Nations, 2013). Among them, 115 million children were in hazardous work which includes: prostitution, agriculture, mining, militia, construction, manufacturing, service industries, hotels, bars, and domestic service (Cigno, Rosati, Guarcello, 2002). • 7. The Characteristics Of Fashion In Ancient Egypt Egypt is in the north east corner of Africa, connecting it to the middle east. Its location, gave ancient Egypt the means to incredible resources to create a fashion revolution. They used these resources to make shoes, clothes, jewelry, and headdresses. The more elaborate fashion was worn by the royal families. For each one I will be discussing how they were made, where and when they were worn, along with why they were worn. Fashion was used as creative outlet to appease the gods and show class status. Most of the clothing was worn repeatedly due to expense. I will also discuss how the ancient Egyptians would have laundered their clothes and mended them. Cosmetics and fragrances where also a huge part of the upper class Egyptians life style. Egyptian clothing was produced by mainly women, either in the home or in workshops run by the nobles. The process of making clothing in ancient Egypt was not a simple one, it truly took talent to make the articles of clothing so elegant. In order to start making clothing you needed to make linen. The men would first harvest the flax plant, then they would proceed to beat and comb the plant until they could withdraw all the fibers. The fibers where then spun on spindles into thread and then the thread was places on a loom. The loom were two types of looms, one made from simply hammering long wooden pegs into the ground and another with a frame and pegs that would lean up against a wall. Articles like The Dell Theory, The End of History, and The Return of Geopolitics all offer a unique viewpoint on what will prevent war in the future, what the ideal political system is, and how to reach it. First, The End of History argues that when all countries unite together in practicing liberal democracy, humankind will have reached the end point of ideological evolution. While it is a natural tendency to want everything done, don t go overboard. Remember that you are in your third trimester and need to take it easy. Changes happening to your body in week 36 Thanks to the nesting instincts in you, all the exhaustion of the third trimester gets replaced completely by a renewed sense of vigor. Here are the major physical changes happening to you in week 36: Getting into a comfortable sleeping position becomes harder by the day. With only two sides to switch between, you may find that your hips are aching from the pressure. Try cushy, comfortable pillows or a padded blanket around and underneath you. They will cushion your hips, relieve the ache and help you fall asleep faster. Most babies get into a head down position by now. When they do, you might discover that the bathroom becomes your home. Do not reduce your water intake in the hopes of making fewer bathroom trips. Try reducing the caffeine intake as coffee and tea are known to be diuretics. How Far can Individuals Influence an Orgnization s Culture Drawing on scholarly articles and theories discussed throughout the module, critically examine how far individuals can influence an organisation s culture In the modern, world the bonds of organizations share our lives: from being born in a hospital, entered into the registry of birth, marriages and deaths which tracks the entire populace and changes in it. Almost every aspect of our everyday life and, indeed, our deaths will be shared by organization of one kind or another. (Clegg. et al, 2011 p.6). • 11. Comparing The Genesis Flood And The Epic Of Gilgamesh Throughout the Genesis Flood, Atrahasis Flood and the Epic of Gilgamesh flood, there are many different ways to interpret the different views of The Flood. These different narratives in these stories have their own explanation on how this myth took place and the different beliefs that occurred during this flood. The way you portray each narrative is based on what exactly your beliefs are. When comparing the Genesis Flood narrative to that of the Gilgamesh Flood narrative, there are many similar symbols throughout both narratives. In the Genesis version of the flood, God had chosen to send the flood because the humankind he had created was evil and he saw their wickedness. For my par, I am going to bring a good of waters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die (Genesis 6:18). This excerpt from the narrative shows that one God had chosen to send the flood to destroy all humankind that he had originally created. Just like this narrative, the Gilgamesh Flood narrative, a God by the name of Enlil orders a flood to destroy humankind. Decided that the great gods should make a flood (Gilgamesh XI 109). This quote states how that a flood was to be sent for the city of Shuruppak. In the Genesis narrative there was a righteous man by the name of Noah that was chosen to build the ark. How ideas from the enlightenment influenced the American Revolution Our nation was born from the idea that each person should have their own independence. They thought that the only way to get that independence was to separate ourselves from not only King George III, but the entire country of Great Britain. To make sure that there would not be any more tyrants to lead our country; our founding fathers used ideas from the Enlightenment to establish our government and to ensure our future as a nation. Many philosophers of the Enlightenment period had a crucial influence on the documents that created The United States of America. John Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Rousseau all had a hand in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. John Locke had a focus on natural rights. He was not only a painter, but had many talents in sculpting, science, music and architecture. He made amazing scientific discoveries throughout his life, which led to advancements in the field. He is mostly known for his paintings, the Mona Lisa, and The Last Supper. I believe Leonardo Da Vinci compares well to Albert Einstein. Both Da Vinci, and Einstein were very involved in science, and discovered many amazing things. I think Albert Einstein is important because he developed the theory of relativity, and the mass energy equivalence (E=MC^2). Leonardo, like Einstein also studied physics. He used physics to help create many of his inventions. While Leonardo kept private journals, Einstein wrote many scientific essays that showed his studies. • 23. The Importance Of Social Class In Great Expectations By... In Great Expectations, Charles Dickens shows that social classes existed but didn t limit the characters. The main character Pip starts off as a lower class blacksmith but throughout the book makes his way up the social classes. The social ranking a character had based how people treated them and how the character thought of themselves. Helping others can benefit success in climbing the social classes. Charles Dickensin Great Expectations, portrays that the characters were not limited to their social class, but that social rankings existed. Pip shows how hard work can make changes to social classes. Social classes can change with hard work. In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Pip is portrayed wealthy in his lifestyle compared to when he used to work as a poor blacksmith with common clothes. In the courtyard I took the opportunity of being alone in the courtyard to look at my course hands and my common boots (Dickens, 781). This shows how Pip is becoming aware that his clothes were the same as any other poor person and how he wanted to change his lifestyle to become a gentleman. While Estella is next to Pip he, we folded all my bills up uniformly, docketed each on the back, and tied the whole into a symmetrical bundle (Dickens, 861). This is suggesting that Pip has accomplished his goal of changing his social status and becoming a real gentleman with his hard work showing that social classes do not limit characters that they could move up or down the ranks. Dickens portrays how characters are not limited and held back due to the social level they had and how hard work helps achieve goals. People were based on their social classes. Charles Dickens shows that the way people in the society were treated and how Pip was self conscious because he was in the lower class. Pip thought only that he was a common labouring boy; that my hands were coarse; that my boots were thick; that I had fallen into a despicable habit of calling knaves jacks; that I was much more ignorant than I had considered myself last night, and generally that I was in a low lived bad way. It was important that it developed along a river such as the Nile because it provided water for agriculture and drinking, which were necessary for survival in a permanent settlement or civilization. South of Egyptwas the civilization of Nubia, or Kush. This was important to Egypt s culture because the back and forth conquering of each other that went on led to the integration of one another s culture. Egypt adopted Nubian traditions and vice versa. Egypt was a prominent, African civilization for roughly 1500 years, being divided into three separate kingdoms, those being Old, Middle, and New. During the Old Kingdom, leaders called pharaohs created a strong, central, organised government for Egypt. Theocratic rule was present throughout Egyptian government, meaning that Egypt s government was headed and led by religious leaders. The chief religious adviser to the pharaoh was their vizier. Pharaohs of the Old Kingdom established a bureaucratic form of government, meaning it had varying levels of authority and departments tasked with handling specific objectives. In Europe and the Americas the name Genghis Khan is synonymous with barbarism, cruelty, murder and destruction, but in much of Asia he is viewed as a hero, a unifier and a military genius. Even his date of birth is a subject of some debate. Whatever perspective you choose to take, the one thing that is undeniable, is the fact that a boy named Temujin, the son of a Mongol chieftain, would change the face of an entire continent. Genghis Khan was born sometime between 1155 and 1167 as Temujin Borjigin of the clan Kiyat (Quezzaire). His father was an important leader in the clan named Yesugei who at the time of his birth was at war with a neighboring group of nomadic tribes called the Tartars. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, the US has taken huge measures to make sure there were not foreign attacks made on US soil again, but what about domestic attacks? The attacks of 9/11 left more than 3,000 civilians dead and more injured, but the number of deaths caused by homegrown terrorism far exceeds that number. Because of the amount of homegrown terrorism in the US one starts to think is homegrown terrorism a bigger threat to the US than international terrorism? Post 9/11 Attacks Made on the US In 2001, under Resolution 1373, all 192 members of the UN agreed that terrorism a serious domestic crime, abiding by or abetting to terrorism, or material helping terrorists would be serious offenses. • 38. Martin Luther s Disillusionment Martin Luther is an extraordinary and revolutionary man who played a significant role in both the Protestant Reformation and Christian history. He was a priest, theologian, professor, and composer. In 1510, Luther went to Rome for his monastic order. While at Rome, he noticed the immoral and irreverent practices of the Roman Catholic clergy which contradicted the teachings of the Bible and became disillusioned. The reasons for Luther s disillusionment were the careless attitude of the priests when speaking Mass, the selling of indulgences, the response of the priests towards his Ninety five Theses, and the outcome of the Diet of Worms which Luther was condemned as an outlaw. Prior to his excommunication, he wrote an Appeal to Caesar to Emperor Charles V, the Holy Roman Emperor, who was managing the council meeting at Worms. Luther wanted the fate of his heresy charges to be determined by a secular jurisdiction, arguing that the Church should be accountable to the jury. Therefore, Luther appeared before the Diet of Worms on 18 April, 1521. He was asked to answer about his writings. Once again, he was demanded to recant his Theses, but he refused because he believed he was not convicted by the Scriptures to do so. As a result, Emperor Charles V issued the Edict of Worms, on 26 May, 1521, declaring Luther a heretic and outlaw. Luther was wanted and no one was allowed to harbour or sustain ... • 39. The Slowdown Of Global Warming The Slowdown of Global Warming The recent decrease in the heating percentage of the Northern Hemisphere could be a consequence of internal variability of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation a natural phenomenon associated with ocean surface temperatures, according to Penn State investigators. Some researchers have in the past attributed a portion of Northern Hemispheric warming to a warm phase of the AMO, said Michael E. Mann, Distinguished Professor of Meteorology. The true AMO signal, instead, appears likely to have been in a cooling phase in recent decades, offsetting some of the anthropogenic warming temporarily. (Michael E. Mann, April 7, 2014) The conflict of the previous measurements stems from having characterized... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because the scientists know the actual AMO signal for their artificial statistics from the start, they could show that the differenced AMO accession allowed the right signal. They also approved the detrended AMO accession and saw that it didn t come up with the known internal differentiality. Michael and his partners also took a separate path in concluding the AMO, which they report online in a special Frontier paper in Geophysical Research Letters. They contrast analyzation temperature diversity with a number of historic model reproductions to make a copy for internal variability of the AMO that depletes the impact of outer forcing, involving greenhouse gases and aerosols. They call this the differenced AMO due to the internal variability comes from the difference between analysis and the models estimates of the forced component of North Atlantic temperature variation. They saw that their conclusions for the latest decade fall within expected multidecadal variability. The detrended approach manufactured an AMO signal with a higher amplitude, both high and low crests were greater than in the differenced AMO signal and in the artificial data. They also found that the crests and troughs of the oscillation were misrepresented using the detrending accession, making the maximums and minimums to form at separate times than in the differenced AMO reactions. While the detrended AMO accessing makes a spurious temperature increase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Major Impacts Of Natural Disasters In Turkey Turkey faces numerous natural disasters a year. The top three are earthquakes, floods, and landslides. Earthquakes have cost the economy over a billion dollars in the past decade. 66% of the country is located in active fault zones. On average, 950 die from earthquakes each year, and this is the 3rd highest rate in the world. Around 15% of the total disaster losses are caused by floods, and around 16% of total disaster losses are caused by landslides. Since there are so many natural disasters, an emergency project is created to help deal with these disasters. The Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Project (ISMEP), was created over 10 years ago. Some of their goals include strengthening the capacity of emergency management and enhancing the development laws and building codes, so buildings are not as likely to be destroyed and people will be safer. Additionally, there are disaster management centers. On the European side of Turkey, HASDAL is there to provide security and safety for residents affected. The counterpart on the Asian side of Turkey is known as FSM KOZYATAGI. These centers are vital assets for the country in times of natural disaster (Erdurmus, n.d.). These natural disasters can have major impacts on the supply chain and can cause Turkey to lose millions in trade. For example, if a flood ruins the ports and surrounding areas, the goods cannot be received or sent from other countries. Since Turkey depends on their ports, this could be ... Eosinophilic Esophagitis Research Paper Eosinophilic esophagitis Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic, immune mediated condition (T helper cell 2 allergen mediated process) and an increasingly recognized clinical pathologic entity. Current criteria include: symptoms of esophageal dysfunction, minimum 15 eosinophils in at least one high power microscopy field on biopsy and exclusion of other potential causes as the most important differential diagnosis is GERD [13]. Symptoms can be non specific. In infancy, the major complaints include food intolerance and failure to thrive. Abdominal pain, food impaction, nausea and emesis can be found in adolescents [13]. Associated morbidities of SIBO are anemia, malabsorption, and malnutrition [14]. Diagnosis can be made with the hydrogen glucose breath test. However, a methane measurement improves the sensitivity of the hydrogen breath test and decreases false positive results. Hydrogen production originates from non digestable lactose. In patients with CF, the colonic flora frequently does not produce hydrogen, whereas the methane production is higher [19]. Treatment (Table 3) includes antibiotics, especially orally, with improvement of fat digestion and absorption [15]. Other treatment options are pre and probiotics. Prebiotics are selectively fermented ingredients that promote specific changes in the composition and activity in the gastrointestinal microflora that will benefit the flora. They are not metabolized by pathogenic bacterial strains and induce a proliferation of the beneficial microbionts [20]. Probiotics are live bacteria that provide a positive effect on the inflammatory response of the gastrointestinal tract by improving the endothelial intestinal barrier, diminishing the bacterial adhesion, lowering the pH intraluminal and enhancing the production of nitrogen oxide [19, 20]. None of these are true just about all plastic bottles can be harmful, but usually are not. The label for what kind of bottle is being used is engraved on the bottom of the bottle. The specific type of bottle that Purity uses for their chocolate milk is #2 HDPE. After some research is done on ethylene one can find out Ethylene is a small hydrocarbon gas. It is naturally occurring. Some fruit will produce ethylene as ripening begins (WSU) Because this gas is naturally occurring and fruits produce it to help with the ripening process, one shouldn t be concerned about ethylene anymore. The wolves howl into silent telephones Here Gillian Clarke is talking about the people that have lost someone in the crash. She uses a metaphor of a wolf to describe the people trying to contact their loved ones, only to get silence, or an answer to voice mail. The use of the word howl is vividly describing the people crying into the phones, desperate to find out how their friends and family are doing. Gillian Clarke s use of language helps a lot of people who may not have been in the situation themselves to understand the emotional distress involved. Also, the one thing people think of when they think of wolves is their distinctive way of howling, which makes this line even more effective. Walt Whitman uses Personification numerous amount of times in his poem; his clever use of the technique helps the reader understand his descriptions more easily. Shouts of demoniac laughter fitfully piercing and pealing In this Whitman compares a storm to one of the most fear provoking things possible, the words demoniac laughter instantly make you think of some sort of an evil being, laughing at some destruction that he has caused. This then ties in with the theme of the storm being uncontrollable. Walt Whitman also uses personification; he says that the storm is laughing . • 47. Architecture People And Landscape Essay Architecture, People and Landscape The idea of being able to walk on top of the building is something that does not happen a lot. Connecting the public to the building should be more than just creating a fascinating and interesting facade. My idea is to describe how a building is able to connect to the people, by allowing them to not just walk inside or around but on top of the building creating a public space within. The reason why I chose this topic is that I wanted to make a connection to my studio project, and how I developed the idea for it. In addition, I wanted to compare it to the OsloOperaHouseand how this assisted me in arriving at my final design. My studio project and the Oslo Opera House have a different scale however, however I think they share some similar concepts. The idea of togetherness, open space, and easy movement access to the public, and most significantly its connection to the landscape. Firstly, the location of the buildings is disparate, the Oslo Opera House(picture 1) does not really have a connection to the landscape, since it is mostly part of the city surrounded by other buildings and where traffic is heavy. There might be some connection between the Oslo Opera House and the landscape of the river, which has influenced the design known as The Wave Wall . My project studio (picture 2) has a huge connection to the landscape, which allowed me to work around the landscape instead of being surrounded by buildings. The location of my ...
