The Village Symbolism
Evil is a strange subject for people but it is in everyone lives. The Village directed by M. Night
Shyamalan and The Crucible by Arthur Miller both explore how evil is perceive to be outside of
a society. Both authors agree evil is not just outside of a society but is within a community in the
form of human nature. Evil is outside and inside a society and individuals. Both authors agree
that evil perceived to be outside the community. Both authors utilise symbolism of a forest to
demonstrate the separation of evil and the community. Shyamalan creates the village to be
isolated by forest which is bordered off with yellow wooden poles. Miller also creates the Salem
folk to believe that the virgin forest was the Devil s last preserve [and]... Show more content on

Both authors use characters to portray this idea but Shyamalan only uses one character while
Miller utilises multiple characters. He achieves this through the character, Noah who stabs
Lucius out of jealousy. The director creates Noah to have a clear mental disorder which allows
him to seem innocence; this creates an uncomfortable feeling for the audience as Noah a
murderer but due to his innocence the audience sympathises him. This scene is very quiet to
emphasise that evil can be quiet and lurking. Shyamalan also utilises also utilises the lighting to
expose what is evil. At the end of this scene, there is medium long shot of an empty chair facing
towards the woods. The empty chair represents someone missing in this case, the death of a
villager. This scene s lighting changes as the woods are in the light and the village is in the
darks. This symbolises that the evil is not in the outside world but within the village. Miller
employs multiple characters unlike Shyamalan to prove evil can be within the community. Miler
s character, Parris is outraged that he only earns sixty pound[s] a year! and that he is not used to
[such] poverty. Parris wants more money; this greed causes Paris to play along and persuade the
authority that his rivals are witches to gain their land. Another character, Abigail also has evil
intentions. She wants John Proctor but his has a wife; this motivates Abigail to kill John Proctor
wife. These evil intentions are not caused by evil forces but desire within the person. The
accusations of witchcraft are a long overdue opportunity for everyone, to gain want they want.
Miller creates the judge, Danforth to be oblivious that vengeance is walking Salam, because twelve
innocent people have already hanged. does not want to ruin his reputation so he agrees with the
accusers. Miller employs irony to illustrate the evil within the villagers.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Ep Economy
Advantages and Drawbacks
Despite the fact that agriculture engenders an insignificant percentage of the EU s GDP and
employs less than 5% of the EU native, the CAP takes up more than half of the EU budget.
Additionally, knowing that the BRIC countries have become some of the most significant
competitors to the EU, it has been suggested that payments to farmers should be decreased, thus
concentrating more on the investment in technology. The distribution of the payments among
nations has been highly doubted. We might believe that the CAP aids small family farms to
prevent them from going into bankruptcy, yet this is a long way from the reality. A campaign,
Famsubsidy.org, consisting of economists, activists and reporters, has been established to reveal
the truth about the transparency of the CAP; the movement has found out that rich landlords and
even the British Royal family earn millions in EU farm subsidies . As argued by Harvey: Prince
Charles and the Duke of Westminster are two of the biggest recipients of the aid in the UK , hence
a negligible amount is going to the poor farmers.
It is also indicated that the CAP spending is most likely focused on the wealthier regions rather than
on slacking ones. This fact proves that the CAP s work is inconsistent with other major and more
important European Union goals such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, in the late 80s and early 90s, export subsidies were taking up to one third of the CAP
spending plan (about 10 billion euros a year). Hence, given the main subjects of the WTO
negotiations, export subsidies weren t as important anymore and can only be used in cases of
severe market crises. However, recently, the EU, in collaboration with Brazil and other South
American countries, issued a proposal for the Nairobi Ministerial Council meeting this December
that would end all export subsidies by the end of 2018

Hearing And Responding To Jack London s The Call Of The Wild
Hearing and Responding to the Call of the Wild At the beginning of The Call of the Wild, Jack
London presents a quotation from Atavism, a 1902 poem by John Myers O Hara that encapsulates
one of the main motifs of the novel: Old longings nomadic leap, Chafing at custom s chain; Again

The man could leap high and swing in trees. And closely akin to the visions of the hairy man was
the call still sounding in the depths of the forest. It filled him with a great unrest and strange
desires. It caused him to feel a vague, sweet gladness, and he was aware of wild yearnings and
stirrings for he knew not what. Sometimes he pursued the call into the forest, looking for it as
though it were a tangible thing, barking softly or defiantly, as the mood might dictate. (Chapter
VII, The Sounding of the Call ). Buck s experiences in the northland wilderness awakened in him
the long dormant instincts of a wild carnivore. When he acted on these instincts by killing the
moose, for example, or befriending the wolf brother he was responding to the call of the wild.
His atavism that was, his reversion to the behavior of his canine ancestors gradually transformed
him into a wolf like creature that prefers to live in a savage environment in which he must fight
and kill to live. In the last chapter of The Call of the Wild, there was always a scene that Buck felt
the call of the life in the wild drawing him away from mankind, away from campfire and towns,

The Provision Of Sale And Other Instruments Act 1955 ( Qld )
Deeds are most commonly used in connection with the transfer of land or the creation of a trust,
although they may also be used to transfer goods by way of gift.
A deed must be made in writing, signed and sealed by the donor (and usually contains the words
signed, sealed and delivered as evidence that this requirement has been satisfied) and delivered to
the donee. A bill of sale is another way of selling goods and can be used to create a security right in
goods. The execution of a bill of sale causes legal ownership of the goods to pass to the buyer.
Most jurisdictions require the registration of bills of sale and other security documents creating
security rights to goods or property (see relevant provisions of the Bills of Sale and ... Show more

The Sale of Goods Act 1896 (Qld) provides certain rules for the passing of ownership in goods:
в—Џ parties are not required to undergo formalities in order to make a valid contract for the sale of
goods; в—Џ the goods subject to the contract must be identified or described when the contract is
made; and в—Џ the title to the property in the goods passes from buyer to seller when the parties
intend it to, which may be ascertained from the terms of the contract, conduct of the parties and
circumstances of the transaction.
The legislation also provides several rules for ascertaining the parties intentions in the absence
of evidence to the contrary. So, for example, if there is an unconditional contract for the sale of
specific goods in a deliverable state, property passes when the contract is made, even if payment
or delivery is postponed. In addition, if the seller must do something to put the goods into a
deliverable state, property will pass when that has taken place and notice has been given to the
buyer. However, the statutory rules are only intended to apply to matters which have been left
unspecified by the parties and so will only apply if the parties have not made alternative
arrangements.

transfer an equitable property interest will depend on the nature of the right and the nature of the

Lost Boys Sociology
The situation of the Lost Boys could be explained using the 3 major theories in sociology. The
first theory is functionalism. Humans naturally focus on the negative over the positive but
functionalism is typically a theory that looks at things more positively. However, this is
obviously not a positive result, but it does come from a similarly positive, and somewhat idealist
point of view. The Lost Boys are an unintended result of Sudanese People s Liberation
Movement. The civil war could be a result of people feeling that others are stepping out of their
roles, and thus have to reestablish what those roles should be and whom should fill them.
Unfortunately the chaos can lead to even greater confusion and certainly risk destroying a lot. This
indirectly lead to these Lost Boys having to find new roles that suited them better. Even before
moving to America, they managed to create those roles amongst themselves. They created a
simpler form of hierarchy and social stratification. They also all played into one common role of
trying to push the group forward in finding a new culture so that they could create the roles that
could truly fit them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have not researched too thoroughly into the civil war itself, but I m sure there are many
relations for the theory there. The Lost Boys are more of a results of the theory, as opposed to an
example of it. These boys did not want to face the conflict. They did not follow the idea that the
people will get together and inevitably take control over the government when the balances have
been broken. Rather, they did left to find their own source of unity without so much conflict. They
have seen the loses of the fight and they did not want to continue enduring

I think their alphabet is so interesting and very well put together. King Sejong, the creator of the
Korean alphabet hangul, did a great job of creating a separate letter for each sound. For example,
in English the letter A can take on various sounds. The letter a sounds different in the words date ,
can , and all however in Korean the character г…Џ makes the same sound as the a in all makes
every time, no matter what word it s in. I also find it fascinating how the Korean language has
words for things the English language does not have words for, such as л€€м№ (noonchi) which
I can best describe as social keenness or common sense. In Korea if a guy s girlfriend asks him if
she has gained weight recently and he responds with Yes, you seem to have gained weight , that
boyfriend is said to have no л€€м№ (noonchi). Any boyfriend with a keen sense, can pick up on
the fact that his girlfriend is asking that question in attempt to get her boyfriend to assure her that
she has not gained weight. There are so may words like this in Korean, and I bet in other
languages as well. The Korean language and culture is simply amazing to me and I want nothing

To Kill A Mockingbird Aphorisms
TKM Aphorism Project I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that
courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It s when you know you re licked before you begin but
you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.
(Lee 149). True bravery is when you re aware that the odds are against you, however, you have the
ability to persevere through it. Even though you don t want to complete the task ahead of you, an
inner force brings you the motivation to do it. Sincere courageousness doesn t always entail
violence; in fact, courage comes from the choices made within that affect yourself or those around
you. The outcome may not always be to your advantage, but... Show more content on

Atticus wants Scout to be less hot headed and more diplomatic. Her first instinct when placed in
a situation where she has the disadvantage is to beat that person up. Atticus wants to teach Scout
to deal with harsh, rude remarks calmly so they don t boil up inside her. He wants her to learn to
work out problems nicely because she has a logical mind if she would use it correctly. She
rebels against what she s taught when she s thinking too quickly but if she took time to sort
things out, a peaceful solution could be reached. Cecil Jacobs, a boy at Scout s school,
announced that Scout s father defended n s and was a disgrace. Scout was infuriated by the way
he said it. She was ready to defend herself and Atticus with her fists but decided against it and
walked away. She listened to Atticus s advice because she didn t want to let him down. Even
though she was called a coward, she retained her dignity through Atticus s approval. In general,
anyone who has to deal with a bully shouldn t fight fire with fire. Retaliation and physical fights
are not the answer. Maintain pride in yourself and your beliefs. Don t stoop so low as to want to
hurt someone. As an alternative, find a solution that will make sure that problem isn t aroused
again. Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to
try to win. (Lee 101). Even if history had its rough patches, there is still a

America in the 1920 s
America in the 1920s, also known as the Roaring 20s or New Era, was a time of great changes
and huge growth. America was being a more modern nation, and a return to normalcy was being
seen after the Progressive Movement and First World War. Politically, the American government
was seemingly conservative, but experimented with different approaches to public policy and
foreign diplomatic policy. Economically, it was a time of tremendous growth and new forms of
organization. Socially, the American popular culture reshaped itself to reflect the increasingly
industrial, urban, and consumer oriented society. The 20s were a time of a distinguishably new
culture and profound change and excitement, but it wasn t great for everybody. After 1922, there
was a long period of prosperity and economic expansion. People had more money to spend, and
prices weren t rising very much. The key to the economic boom was new technology. The
automobile industry was one of the most important industries in the nation, and led to stimulated
growth in other industries, such as steel, rubber, glass, and especially oil companies. Road
construction booms in response to automobiles, providing more jobs for workers and helping the
economy even more. The radio comes about in the early 20s and becomes a popular form of
entertainment and leads the creation the National Broadcasting Company, or NBC. As a result, the
nation becomes more connected. Commercial aviation develops and planes are used to deliver mail

One Hundred Years Of Solitude Intertwining Family Tree
Intertwining Family Tree In the book One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez,
the Buendia family establishes the town of Macondo, located in Columbia, in the 18th century. The
Buendia s family had created the town on their own and they were also left there alone, in solitude,
at the end book. Hence the name of the novel. To create absolute solitude Marquez had to create
incest within the Buendia family. Incest means that they were making love and having kids with
their brothers and sisters as well as their aunts and cousins. This creates an interlocking family tree.
With the family reproducing within the household they have isolated themselves from the other
members of society. Today in modern society we see insect as is forbidden... Show more content on

These things will never be known. From the book we can conclude that the absolute way to have
complete solitude would be to create a family with an obsession with incest. That way no one
would leave and the house would only grow to fit more relatives rather than outsiders. The
question if incest is right or wrong is never brought up by the villagers in the novel because if it
was the author wouldn t be able to tell a tale of One Hundred Years of Solitude. Solitude would be
broken if the outsiders saw incest as something else rather than normal. Incest the first sin and the
last, it is what started the book and what had also ended it. Without it there would be no story and
there would be no Buendia family. It would ve changed into something else over the five
generations. The story was told in a circle, what had happened in the beginning would foreshadow
the ending. A pig s tail to a pig s

Green Lake in the Bishop Creek Canyon is a sacred place and the happy hunting ground for the
ancestors of the Paiute people. Evidence of the habitation of these people goes back thousands
of years and indicates that this area was of prime importance for food gathering. The men hunted
deer and mountain sheep while the women and children gathered and prepared food. Everybody
pitched in on all the other chores like making camp. Summer was a wonderful time in the
mountains of the Eastern Sierra for the Paiute people. They looked forward to getting up to the
higher elevations to beat the heat of the infernal Owens Valley. Many happy times were shared in
the high mountain camps of the Paiutes. They established relationships, enjoyed the flowers in the
meadows, and lived their life to the fullest just like we do today. The only difference was that
they were the only people around at the time living a wild existence in an even more wild land

George Washington was commander in chief of the Continental army during the American
Revolution and later became the first president of the United States serving from1789 until 1797.
He symbolized qualities of discipline, aristocratic duty, military orthodoxy and persistence in
adversity that his contemporaries valued as marked of mature political leadership
George spent his early years on the family estate on Pope s Creek along the Potomac River.

In January 1759 he married Martha Dandridge Custis, a wealthy and attractive young widow with
two small children.
Alarmed by the repressive measures of the British crown and Parliament, Washington became a
leader in Virginia s opposition to Great Britain s colonial policies. At first he hoped for
reconciliation with Britain. In July, 1774 he presided over a meeting in Alexandria that adopted the
Fairfax Resolves, calling for the establishment and enforcement of a stringent boycott on British
imports prior to similar action by the First Continental Congress. As a delegate to the First and
Second Continental Congress 1774 and 1775 Washington did not participate actively in the
deliberations, however, his presence was undoubtedly a stabilizing influence. In June 1775 he was
Congress s unanimous choice as commander in chief of the newly created Continental Army when
fighting broke out between Massachusetts and the British.
Washington took command of the troops surrounding British occupied Boston on July 3, devoting
the next few months to training the undisciplined 14,000 man army and trying to secure urgently
needed powder and other supplies. Early in March 1776, he took command of the makeshift force
and moved his army to New York. Defeated there by the combined land and sea forces of General

Joseph Conrad Influence On Things Fall Apart
Books about Africa: How an Author Influences a Reader Without experiencing something firsthand,
the only way to gain understanding of a foreign concept is through the words of other people. Thus,
without visiting Africa, personal knowledge of it is limited and a reader must make decisions on
what to believe. Two books about African culture are Chinua Achebes historical fiction novel
Things Fall Apart, and Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of Darkness. After analyzing both of these
texts, a reader can see how one s perspective on a subject can be influenced based on how an
author chooses to write about it. By using either realism or exaggeration, Achebe and Conrad
(respectively) create two different Africas: one that brings African life closer... Show more content

As such, they describe their stories in differing ways. A quote that illustrates this clash in
perspective is found in Things Fall Apart when a visiting missionary thinks about the book he is
writing about his experience with the tribe He had already chosen the title of the book, after
much thought: The Pacification of the Primitive Tribes of the Lower Niger (Achebe, 171).
Achebe wrote this line to show the reader how an outsider can be ignorant to things they don t
understand. Reading this line is jarring because of it s dark irony; throughout the whole book, the
reader has gone on a journey with Okonkwo and has learned to relate and understand the Igbo.
Then at the end of the book, He is using the character of the Commissioner to represent as a whole
the post colonial Europeans who misjudge Africans. In fact, Achebe is making a meta reference to
the genre of books about African culture which, at the time, were written by European outsiders.
Achebe is angered by these authors namely Conrad himself for their stereotyped portrayal of
African culture. He is actively writing against the perpetuation of misinformation because he knows
that how an author chooses to describe something determines how an outsider will view that

What Was The Cultural Importance Of Asian Elephants
The cultural event I chose was the cultural importance of elephants to the east. Recently Busch
Gardens have had an Asian elephant assimilated in. Elephants through history in the east held
much importance when it came to warfare, nobility, culture, and way of life. The Elephant was a
symbol of power and authority for many powerful empires such as the Mughal Empire or
Vijayanagar Empire. Elephants hold very important roles throughout history in Asia and India.
Asian elephants have been integral to the history of Asia and India, proving to be useful in many
things such as warfare and construction. Asian Elephants are huge mammals that can weigh up to

DBQ #5: Slavery and Sectional Attitudes, 1830 1860
During the mid 1800 s many Americans began to have mix feelings over the issue of slavery.
Many northern Americans believed that slavery was morally wrong and that it was an evil.
Southerners on the other hand believed it was a good for the economy as well as for commerce.
This great split of attitudes between the north and the south eventually led to threat of the civil war.
The North saw the issue of slavery as an evil. They believed that slavery was an impurity that

How Did Aristotle Obey The First Cause To Change
Aristotle imagines an infinitely vast and eternally complicated universe, all under the control of a
divine being. He states that the reason for the universe must be love because if God did not desire
the universe, He would not allow the universe to exist. Through further observation, Aristotle then
claims that a change must be caused to change. It is through these changes that all physical entities
appear only temporarily. He then claims that there are four fundamental principles that describe all
causes. The first cause is the material cause, which states that all objects have an immanent material
that brings them into being. This is similar to Thales argument of origin where he stated that all
moist things must be brought into being from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The material cause, formal cause, and final cause all rely on an omnipotent being. The final
cause is the cause of the other causes, but if one were to suggest there was no ultimate purpose
then the efficient cause would explain all naturalistic creations. I would suggest that there is an
agent that causes the change. It is the light that reflects off a stump that makes the wood appear
brown. It is the result of evolution which is caused by the procreation of the surviving that allows
for human beings to exist. The material cause and formal cause can be explained by the efficient
cause. I agree with the final cause, because it answers the purpose of the efficient cause. If things
can only be brought to motion by an agent of change, then why bring the initial physical entity into
motion if not for a purpose. If every object is caused to motion by a purpose it must in some way
be contributing to a purpose that justifies its existence. Going back to Aristotle s initial argument, it
is unreasonable that something could come out of nothing if not for a divine being with a desire
for the Universe s existence. This God must desire the universe for some reason, this reason is the
purpose of its

Orson Scott Card s The Road Not Taken
Orson Scott Card, an American novelist, once said, A character is what he does, yes but even
more, a character is what he means to do. This quote is impactful because the character in a story is
given its character traits by the personality, actions, and intentions that are shown throughout the
development of a story. With this being said, the choices, actions, and intentions that one has and
shows, impacts others and reveals the type of person that one really is. The intentions that one has
sets up someone for recognizing who that person really is. The intentions that one has, shows the
feelings or emotions that one has towards the event that is happening or happened. For example,
in Source B, Delaney dived for two boys that were sinking below the surface. Folks along the bank

One will always try to make themselves look good just to brag on themselves and make others
feel disappointed. In The Road Not Taken, the speaker says that when he retells the story to
others of that event, he will say that he took the road that was less traveled on. The last stanza
states, I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in
a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by... This demonstrates that he wants to modify his
decision to make himself seem as a risk taker, and one can conclude that he is a presume person.
Critics would argue that one s decisions do not affect the person one really is. For instance,
Source B illustrates Delaney as a failure because he did not save the kids. However, if one
switches the point of view, one can see Delaney as a brave and heroic person because without
knowing how to swim, he had the courage to go in and try rescuing the boys, and Delaney had
already saved one kid, LeMarkits. As one can see, the choices or decisions one makes can make
others judge someone in a positive or negative

Maslows Hierarchy of Needs
1. Introduction
Each of us has our own set of needs that motivate our communication and our responses to
messages. While not everyone s priorities are identical, our needs resemble one another s
(Steinberg, 2007:22). This assignment will discuss Maslow s hierarchy of needs. It will look at
real life examples of each component. It will also identify and explain each component. An
appropriate diagram will be given to support my answers. At the end of this assignment one should
have a full understanding of Maslow s hierarchy of needs.
2. Explanation of Maslow s hierarchy of needs?
In 1958 a well known psychologist, Abraham Maslow (1908 1970), composed a motivational
theory called Maslow s hierarchy of needs . This theory suggests that when ... Show more content

An example of social need would be an anorexic girl will ignore the need to eat as well as the
security of her health for a feeling of belonging and being accepted (Maslow s Hierarchy of
Needs, 2008). The need for belonging to a group and being accepted by her peers out ways her
other needs on the pyramid. Another example could be even though somebody does not smoke
they will smoke at work so they can be accepted into a group and feel like they belong.
2.4. Esteem
The fourth level on the hierarchy is the need of esteem. After a person has gained the sense of
belonging, the feeling of importance comes into play. One needs to feel successful in what one
does as well as receive public recognition for ones efforts. This need is the need to respect oneself
and to be respected by others (Steinberg, 2007: 23). Once the first three needs have been fulfilled,
one looks at the esteem needs, things such as personal worth, social respect and self achievements.
One wants to feel that they are worth something. The need to accomplish something becomes
strong at this level. If esteem is not addressed an inferiority complex and or depression will develop
(Schop, 2009).
An example of esteem would be getting a promotion in your job. The promotion will impress
your colleges, friends and family. It will make them proud and give you a sense of superiority.
You will feel successful and others will gain more

The Death Of Julius Caesar
Due to the writing and works of William Shakespeare, the death of Julius Caesar became the
most famous assassination in history. The death of Julius Caesar is placed in full context of
Rome s civil wars by eminent historian Barry Strauss. Moreover, the assassination itself was a
complexly layered plan that was a direct result of Caesar s power and leadership choices leading
up to the fateful day. These key events leading up to the Ides of March and the aftermath that
followed are important to the immense effect Caesar s death had on Rome, and the subsequent
historical impact of Rome s demise. In the height of Rome Caesar formed a political alliance with
Pompey that dominated Roman politics. Furthermore, Caesar s victories in the Gallic War and
success of extending Roman territories granted him ample military capacity. Therefore putting him
in an unrivalled position of power and influence. After assuming control of government, Caesar
began a program of social and governmental reforms. Caesar gave Rome renewed hope and was a
leader to the middle and poor classes of ancient Rome. Although, many historians still debate the
details of the highly orchestrated murder, it is universally apparent that many were involved in
planning and carrying out the act. The intricate assassination was not the work of just one man or
women, but a collection of senators who conspired together for what they believed the greater
good. For the senators feared that Caesar, with his new found power,

Essay about Upton Sinclair And The Chicago Meat-Packing...
Upton Sinclair and the Chicago Meat packing Industry
In 1900, there were over 1.6 million people living in Chicago, the country s second largest city.
Of those 1.6 million, nearly 30% were immigrants. Most immigrants came to the United States
with little or no money at all, in hope of making a better life for themselves. A city like Chicago
offered these people jobs that required no skill. However, the working and living conditions were
hazardous and the pay was barely enough to survive on. This is the bases for Upton Sinclair s book,
The Jungle. Sinclair agreed to investigate working conditions in Chicago s meatpacking plants, for
the Socialist journal, Appeal to Reason, in 1904. The Jungle, published in 1906, is ... Show more

They needed help from the government and local community. In other words, machine politics.
Politicians played an important role in the political machine. In order to maintain this role, they
received substantial kickbacks from the owners of the factories. They would recruit people to
help the immigrants become citizens of the United States, and then pay the immigrants to vote
for a specific candidate, often several times. Before the Progressive Party materialized, there
were just the Democrats and the Republicans, and the one got the office which bought the most
votes. Readers were not concerned with the treatment of workers, as portrayed by The Jungle,
because they really didn t care for the working class, or more specifically, immigrants. However,
readers were shocked when they discovered exactly how their meat was processed and prepared.
Sinclair used just as much, if not more, gruesome detail in describing the products the American
public was consuming, as he did when describing the workplace, living conditions, politics,
society and Chicago s scenery. In a futile attempt to build up the readers sympathy toward the
wage slaves, Sinclair also details the process in which foods not related to the meat packing
industry are prepared. For example, he writes, their pale blue milk...was watered, and doctored with
formaldehyde. The controversy over food

Misbehavior cannot be caused by malnutrition itself. Many different factors contribute to a child s
inappropriate behavior in school. Having an improper nutrient balance is one of those factors.
Many people are unaware of the beneficial and detrimental effects food does have on altering a
child s behavior. Your Mental Health (1998) outlines certain behaviors that can be distorted by
consuming particular nutrients. Frances and First (1998) also discuss the damage behavioral
problems cause to a child s educational performance. Behavior problems are otherwise known as
classroom disruptions. Disruptions within a classroom result in every student s inability to focus
and learn, as well as the teacher s inability to conduct lessons and teach new material. Tanner and
Finn Stevenson (2002) support these findings in the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry in an
article entitled Nutrition and Brain Development . Specific nutrients were reported to directly
affect a child s behavior. Stress is placed on the successful usage of food for behavioral disorders,
instead of taking the typical medication route. Children must possess the ability to behave in order
to move forward in life. Misbehavior is neither tolerated in the classroom or

Structure Function Analysis Of Sodium Channels
Structure Function Analysis of Sodium Channels in Human iPSC derived Neurons
Keywords: iPSC, sodium channel, electrophysiology, neuron, inactivation
Background: Neuronal excitability mediated by sodium dependent action potentials (APs) is
required for rapid and specific communication in our brains. This underlies our ability to sense and
respond to stimuli and for higher order cognitive functions including learning and memory. Voltage
gated sodium channels (NaVs) open in response to membrane depolarization and initiate the AP.
The О± subunit is the major functional unit of NaVs and is comprised of 4 homologous domains
(DI DIV), each containing 6 transmembrane segments (S1 6)4,5. S4, the voltage sensor that detects
depolarization, contains 4 8 positively charged amino acids each separated by two hydrophobic
residues4,6. The positive charges on S4 are pushed outward by the electric field during membrane
depolarization leading to channel opening, allowing influx of positively charged sodium ions down
their concentration gradient4. Fast inactivation helps return the membrane to rest by blocking the
conductance of sodium ions through the channel pore 1,2.
Studies in expression systems suggest that the DIVS4 plays a unique role in inactivation1,2,3,6.

Essay about Drug Testing For Missouri Welfare Recipients
On 30 January 2011, the Missouri House of Representatives passed a bill and sent it to the senate
that would require drug testing for those receiving state Temporary Assistance for Needy Family
(TANF) funds. Funding from food stamps, medicare, and public housing would not be affected by
this bill (Keller House). According to Columbia Tribune reporter Rudi Keller, the bill is very
similar to the Arizona law which is the only other state that testswelfare recipients. Missouri and
Arizona would use a questionare and interview which would determine which applicants to test.

According to Keller s article, the law would protect children. It would discourage parents from
using drugs which would create a better home environment. It would also ensure that state
money would be used for supporting families, not recreational drugs (Keller). Rep. John
McCaherty said The bill will show the state expects TANF recipients to be responsible with
public money. (Qtd. in Keller). The idea behind those that support this legislation is that the state
is responsible for ensureing that taxpayer s money doesn t ultimately end up buying illegal
substances and drug testing is an effective means to ensure this. As with all political issues, there
are those on the other side of the fence. People oppose this legistlation for various reasons: from
constitutionality to cost. According to a study done by the American Civil Liberties Union
(ACLU), welfare recipients are no more likely to use drugs. Furthermore, placing a requirement to
be tested may place a stigma upon those receiving welfare which would be counterproductive to
their relief (Drug Testing). An editorial by Henry Waters in the Columbia Daily Tribune, the bill is
the government attempting to punish a class of people who are presumed worthless (Waters).
Another reason people oppose this legislation is the cost. The ACLU study reports the average cost
of a drug test at $42 per person. There are less invasive and cheaper methods to

Essay On Timers
The use of counters and timers in PLCs has helped increase the efficiency of manufacturing and
been of great importance. Timers and counters have been used outside plcs for a long time have
shown themselves to be of great help. There use inside plcs has helped reduce space and the many
of the complications of hardwiring. First, let s start out with the Ton timer. Ton timers were first
used in plcs in the slc 500s. For all timers, there are three bits. The enabled bit, timer timing bit, and
the done bit. On a Ton timer, the enable bit activated when there is a path of true conditions
energizing the timer. The timer timing bit is activated when the timer is energized, and the timer is
timing up to the preset. Lastly, the done bit energizes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What has changed greatly is when the timer timing and down bits energize and de energize. The
timer timing bit for an TOF timer energizes when the timer loses a path of true conditions. This
can be useful for if this timer is put in parallel with a load and you want a device to run for a set
amount of time after the load has de energized. With there use the allow for the simplifying of a
program and more ease of understanding. Furthermore, the done bit energizes as soon as the timer
energizes. When the timers accumulative value reaches its preset the done bit de energizes
opposite of the TON and the RTO. Next, there are counters and their functions. There are two
types of counters the count up and the count down. Like timers, they have a done bit. It works
exactly the same as it did when used in timers. Unlike timers though counters also have count up
and count down bits. When the counter is energized, depending on which counter is being
activated, the counter will add or deduct one number from the accumulative value. It will only add
one number for each false to true transition. Count up timers can be used to reach a specific
amount of material or objects. Using a count down and a count up timer together in a program with
the same address is very useful. One counter will count during a certain set of conditions up and the
other down with its

Hannibal makes the romance between Will and Hannibal very tasteful and realistic. Their
feelings for the other grow slowly, there is not one point when you can definitively say that this
is when their feelings begin. It is just an easy, natural progression of their relationship. I admit
that the romantic undertones of Hannibal and Will s interactions were what initially led me to
watch the show, but I ultimately fell for the masterful writing that Bryan Fuller, the creator,
created with Mads Mikkelsen. The NBC revival of Hannibal shows Dr. Hannibal Lecter before
Silence of the Lambs, before his imprisonment. It follows Will Graham, a gifted FBI profiler
with the ability to see into the mind of anyone he chooses. This ability takes a great toll on Will s
mental stability and because of this, he is forced to take on a psychiatrist, Hannibal Lecter (Mads

finds himself captivated by Will. Due to Will s instability, it is easy for Hannibal to push the
bounds of Will s mind in order to make him realize his true, beautiful potential...as a killer (
Hannibal (TV series) ).

(Biology of Spiders, R.Foelix) These invertebrates of the order Aranea are one of the several groups
of the Class Arachnida, with about thirty four thousand species.
They range in body size from only a few millimeters in length to almost five inches.
All are carniverous and have four pair of walking legs, one pair of pedipalps, and one pair of
chelicerae. (Spiders, W.Shear) Each chelicerae consists of a base and a fang.

There are some spitting spiders that have only six, and there are some with only two or four
eyes. Some cave spiders have no eyes at all and rely only on vibration. There are great
differences in the ways which spiders capture prey. Some may stalk their prey, while others may
lie in wait and ambush it. Other spiders may weave various types of webs used to capture passing
prey, and there are some smaller commensal spiders that live in larger spiders webs and feed on
the smaller insects neglected by their host. (The Spider Book, J.Comstock)
All spiders spin silk, though not all of them weave webs. Silk is most commonly seen used in
forming webs, which may vary from a highly elaborated orb of spiraling threads to a single
sticky string. Most webs can be placed into one of four different types: the orb webs, the funnel
webs, tangle webs, and the sheet webs. The main purpose of a web is for catching prey. With orb
weavers (Araneidae), the spider will first form a supporting structure of frame threads to which it
will then add on radial threads.
(Biology of Spiders, R.Foelix) These tightly strung threads provide quick access to any where on
the web, and also carry any vibrations from the outer perimeter to the center.

The Dream Of The Rood
The Dream of the Rood is by an unknown, Anglo Saxon, author. This ancient poem is about Jesus
being crucified through the cross point of view. Although this poem is about Jesus death, it does
not exactly match up with what the Bible has depicted in the Gospels of the New Testament. There
is a culture clash between the Anglo Saxon culture and beliefs and what the Bible thinks of Jesus
during his crucifixion. In this poem the author expresses Christ as strong, heroic, and bold, but the
Bible states that he was humble, passive, and weak. Contrary to what the Bible says, The Dream of
the Rood proclaims that Christ felt no pain, the crossdid. These are only a few examples of the
differences between the Bible s take on this story versus the unknown author. This piece of
literature is so highly regarded, even today, because of the culture clash it displays. The story of the
crucifixion of JesusChrist had only been written down in the Bible. To see this story being
transformed into how a newer culture interpreted the story had never been heard of up until this

The Ontological Argument By Anselm
I will begin my paper by discussing the two major versions of the ontological argument by
Anselm presented in the proslogion. The first being Possible and actual existence , and the
second being Contingent or Necessary . One should start off with the first summarized in the
standard form as follows: #1 It is a conceptual truth that God is a being than which none greater
can be imagined. #2 God exists as an idea in the mind. #3 A being that exists as an idea in the
mind and in reality is, other things being equal, greater than a being that exists only as an idea in
the mind. #4 Thus, if God exists only as an idea in the mind, then we can imagine something that is
greater than God. #5 But we cannot imagine something that is greater than... Show more content on

Recycling Center Environmental Impact Statement Essay
Recycling Center Environmental Impact Statement
Introduction
This paper will present an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of a proposed construction
project of a new recycling center in a rural area. The proposed project is to be built in a
nonattainment area. The EIS will address land use and development, social and neighborhood
effects, economic factors, air quality, noise, and water resources as it relates to the proposed
project. Included in the process will be three alternatives as well as a no build alternative. The
Environmental Impact Statement will provide a detailed scoping of the project along with the
alternatives that will ensure all potential impacts are addressed prior to project approval.

The NSR program requires companies to obtain a permit for new construction or major
modifications that substantially increase a facility s emissions of the NAAQS.
Once the scoping process is complete a permit must be acquired according to the NSR program for
approved construction.
Land use concerns are one of the most important factors that must be addressed when proposing a
project of this magnitude. Community involvement and feedback is essential to determining the
overall effects the proposed project will have on the community. According to Marriott (1997) the
analysis and adoption of comprehensive or land use plans are one of the most interactive types of
environmental impact assessment studies and can involve many factions of the affected community.
Analyzing community concerns regarding land use will be of significant importance.
The proposed recycling center would be located in a rural area that has many farms and consists of
numerous waterways. The population is medium in size and spread throughout the area. Most of
the farms divert water from the waterways for their crops and several unincorporated towns use the
water for non potable use. The towns get their drinking water from the ground water via wells.
There is one two lane highway that runs through the area linking several small towns and the
adjacent farms.

Prokaryotes And Eukaryotes Similarities
Cells are the basic structural and functional unit of all living organisms. Cells are the smallest
form of life of which all forms of life are composed of one or more cells. All cells come from pre
existing cells. Two different of cells exist: Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes. They are structurally and
functionally different, but they share some properties. Some similarities are: methods of
reproduction, celldivision by binary fission, mitosis or meiosis. The presence of DNAand RNA for
protein synthesis, plasma is the cell membrane and changes in temperature make these cells alike.
These two types of cells are different in other important ways. Eukaryotes have a nucleus
surrounded by a cell membrane. Prokaryotes have a nuclear region not surrounded ... Show more

Prokaryotes are some of the smallest of all organisms. Due to its size, prokaryotes can get nutrients
quickly throughout the cell. Bacteria come in three shapes: rods, spirals or spheres. Some bacteria
are coccobacilli. These are short rods shaped between a cocci and bacilli. A comma shaped
bacterium is called a vibrio. A rigid wavy shaped rod is called spirilium. Spirochete is a corkscrew
shaped rod.
Many bacteria have a distinct arrangement in grouping of cells. Such groups form when cells
divide without separating. Cocci can divide in one or more plane or random. Division in one plane
is called diplo or division in pairs. Chains of cocci are called strepto. Two planes of division is
called tetrads. Random division produces grape like clusters called staphylo. Bacilli divide only in
one plane, but they can be side by side or end to end.
Gram positive bacteria have a thick peptidoglycan layer and is located external to the cell
membrane. Helps in cell maintenance and contributes to acidic polysaccharides such as teichoic
acid and lipoteichoic acid. Gram negative bacteria have a thin layer of peptidoglycan. More
complex layer that provides cover that is anchored to the lipoprotein molecules of the
peptidoglycan layer. This membrane contains porin, which allows penetration of only small
molecules. This serves as a defense mechanism of large molecules such as

The North Eastern Mountain Bike Development Project
Australia is a developed country where developing takes place every day in different field to
enhance its quality. There 19 places enlisted by UNESCO World heritage that attracts the many
people from the globe to explore its beauty. But time have changes, people began to travel for
adventurous sports and for recreational. Keeping in mind, the project, the North Eastern
Mountain Bike Development project (NEMTB) has initiated. For that, business case has been
drafted. Business case is an argument typically documented which is proposed to persuade a
decision maker to approve some sort of activity or action. As a rule, it needs to express a clear
path to an appealing rate of profitability or return on investments. It is not limited to one area but
defines (a) what is the need of business? (b) What are the strategy and what benefits are
expected? (c) What are the problems for defined successful outcome? (d) Why a particular
option is preferred from among the others? (e) How funding will be provided or whether the cost
will be affordable? (f) What external resources will be sourced? (g) How long the benefits will be
delivered? (h) What risk are involved and how they will be managed? (i) What are the
recommendations and what is concluded? So, a business case document ought to look at
advantages and risk involved with and, on the other hand not taking the action. The conclusion
ought to be a convincing contention for execution. The Project, NEMTB is a partnership project

Machiavelli And Socrates
Although both are considered some of the greatest political and philosophical thinkers of their
respective times, Socrates and NiccolГі Machiavelli had very different methods and beliefs of how
a political system should be run. The mindset of Socrates can be seen in the works Apology and
Crito by Plato. Socrates, who values wisdom and justice over power and prestige, would view
Machiavelli s concept of a Prince very contradicting to how he believes a good life should be lived.
In his work, The Prince, Machiavelli details how a prince should rule and maintain power. Socrates
would not be supportive of Machiavelli and his Prince s political system because it is rooted in
unethical behaviors. Machiavelli views these actions as virtues... Show more content on

To Machiavelli, the true virtues of a prince should be stinginess, cruelty, and manipulation. He takes
traditional Christian virtues, which most see as good, and criticizes them, saying they are vices and
hurtful to a prince.
Socrates ideal Prince is much different than that of Machiavelli. Socrates found great power in his
analysis of Athens, rather than direct involvement. Through questioning, reason, and critical
analysis he attempts to instill wisdom, truth and virtue in Athens, specifically in the youth. He was
charged with corrupting the youth because his idea of how life should be lived was much different
than that of the states. Socrates corrupted the youth of Athens because he degenerated or
undeveloped them from becoming strong political, economic, and military leaders. The people of
Athens, in particular the wealthy and powerful, wanted their children to be educated in ideals that
Machiavelli would support. It was the job for these privileged youth to learn how to be strong
leaders so the city could run smoothly in the future and Socrates was undermining this structure. If
the youth Socrates was teaching were treated as a counterpart to Machiavelli s Prince, a difference
in ideals and teachings can be found. Machiavelli teaches his Prince how to maintain power at all
costs, while Socrates teaches his students to put aside the concept of materialistic power such as
wealth and

Essay on Crime and the Media
Crime and the Media
The public depends on the news media for its understanding of crime. Reportedly three quarters
(76%) of the public say, they form their opinions about crime from what they see or read in the
news (Dorfman amp; Schiraldi, 2001). After reviewing five hours of reality crime television
shows, one is left with a very dismal look on society and a prejudice towards minorities as they
are largely depicted as the perpetrators of crime. This new genre commonly referred to as reality
television appears to be sweeping the nation by storm. Opinions vary, depending on whom you ask,
to what extent reality plays a role versus the selling of a product. Sensationalism, advertising,
ratings hype, profiling and fear all comprise the mass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The apprehension and subsequent arrest all dramatized for the cameras. The suspect, heard on
camera being questioned about his past domestic violence charges, his inability to pay child
support and finally he is asked about the observed drug purchase.
Of the nineteen cases reviewed, drug related crimes were more prevalent. In cases involving African
American suspects, the drug of choice was crack cocaine. In suspects that were Caucasian, the drug
of choice was methamphetamines. On the episode aired on May 5, 2005, COPS: Bad Girls, the
suspect, a Caucasian woman was selling drugs and prostituting (Langley, 2005). With the cameras
rolling, the audience is able to overhear, that the suspect is on welfare and has had her children
taken away because of her drug habit. The suspect denies the charges, and the officer insists on
making the point that she is using her welfare money in order to purchase drugs.
In the cases reviewed, the program did not divulge the age. Upon observation, the average
estimated age is twenty five. Age did not appear to have any particular correlation to the type of
criminal activity. What appeared to be more in play was the socioeconomic scale of the suspects.
The average age and circumstances seem to strike a familiar vein with the cases reviewed. On
average, the suspects were unemployed, residing with a family member, a history of violence and
drug use. This

Argumentative Essay On Creation Vs Evolution
Students and adults often have questions about the way humans and our world came into being.
Some of the questions are, What is the difference between creation and evolution? and Is evolution
more valid than creation? Evolutionists tend to say that the debate between creationism and
evolution is about the Bible versus science. In reality, the debate is about good science versus bad
science. Thanks to the ongoing debate between creationismand evolution, people have continued to
explore different areas of science to develop a greater understanding of how we came to exist.
Research has led us to surmise that creationism is supported by more scientific evidence than
various thoughts on evolution.
One of the most well known points of the theory of evolution is that life evolved from a tiny
organism to what it is now.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What if instead of a common ancestor, all species have a common creator? Supporters of
evolution often attempt to use natural selection to prove their point. Natural selection is the
process where the organisms which are better adapted to their environments tend to survive and
produce more offspring than other organisms. For this to be a valid argument, Eskimos would
have grown heavy fur to stay warm, and humans that live in the tropics would have smooth, shiny
skin to help them stay cool. Currently, Eskimos have normal skin and wear coats to keep warm,
while people who live in the tropics have darker skin. Another example that disproves natural
selection is seen in different types of animals. Bears, tigers, lions, and other animals have heavy
fur, even though they live in hot climates. A jungle leopard that lives in hot climates has the same
amount of fur as a snow leopard that lives in freezing cold climates. All of these examples show
that natural selection, which is a key point of evolution, is

Violence In Macbeth
In the play, Macbeth, Macbeth has just been told his wife has died. She should have died
hereafter: There would have been a time for such a word. Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow
creeps in this pretty pace from day to day (Shakespeare). Macbeth reaction is surprising, given the
fact that his wife has just died. His reaction shows the consequences of prolonged exposure to
violencedoes to an individual. Violence in the media can leave negative impact on people s moral
compass. In fact, violence in the media can lead to a negative influence on behavior, desensitization,
and aggression.
The impact of violence in the media is believed to cause many negative behaviors. Psychologist
Anderson states that, the evidence strongly suggests that exposure to violent video games is a
causal risk factor for increased aggressive behavior, aggressive cognition, and aggressive affect
and for decreased empathy and prosocial behavior. (14 Mass Murders List) This claim can be
supported from previous violent acts committed by people who played violent video games. Adam

Florida Invasive Species Essay
Invasive species in Florida
Florida, a treasure trove of many, many species of animals and diverse wildlife. How many of
those, Florida species are actually native to Florida though? If you walk outside you will
probably see lizards everywhere, you know, the brown ones. Well, what if I told you, that they are
not actually native to Florida? Those lizards are called Brown Anoles, and they are actually from
Cuba and the Bahamas. This is just one example of the many invasive species, which compete with
Florida s native species for food, resources and territories everyday. A few more examples of
invasive species that are harmful to our wildlife are the Cuban tree frog, which is a threat to not
only other frogs but toads and lizards as well, the Burmese python, which is invading the
everglades, and the air potato, which is slowly creeping its way up through Florida, tree to tree.
The Cuban tree frog, true to its name, originates in Cuba and was brought here through the
Caribbean (wec.ufl.edu), probably by cargo or cruise ships, docking at our ports. The ... Show more

Noxious weed list and is listed as one of Florida s most invasive plant Species since the 1990 s.
The air potato is originally from the tropics of Asia (CAIP) and is heart shaped in appearance. The
reason the air potato is considered a harmful species is because it is parasitic. The potato starts its
journey in the ground and continues upward in vine form to find a host to latch onto. Once the vine
finds a host tree, bush, or other plant, it begins by latching itself onto the outermost leaves, twigs,
and limbs. Once the vine has fully attached itself, it drains nutrients from the fleshy parts of the
host, thereby helping itself survive and harming the host, rendering itself with the label,

пїјHuge amounts of data are collected nowadays from different application domains and are not
feasible to analyze all these data manually. Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) is the
nontrivial process of identifying valid, novel, potentially useful, and ultimately understandable
patterns in data. In recent years, soft computing became more and more attractive for the
researchers, who work in the related research field of data mining. This paper concerns primarily
about how to use soft computing model to extract knowledge from data mining (database). The
data mining preprocessing techniques have been applied on the available data to clean it in
proper form to extract the knowledge from the data. Thereafter, statistical analysis and soft
computing techniques have been applied on the clean data to select the preferable model. The
decision of the preferable model has to be achieved based on the maximum number of minimum
value of the parameters of residual analysis and average error. The preferable model has been used
to extract the knowledge from the data mining. The goal of the

Sandy Hearst Argumentative Essay
After the trial and listening to the statements of the prosecutors involved, it is now up to the jury
to decide what happens in this case. Dana Ivy is said to have been drunk, which resulted in a car
accident on the morning of December 17. However, the defensive side says she was not
intoxicated and that was not the cause of this accident occurring at the intersection of Justice and
Eagle street. This accident resulted in severe injuries to Terry Vickers, the other citizen involved in
this accident. Terry Vickers wants to charge Sandy Hearst, the host of a party that occurred on the
night of December 16, for the damages. The plaintiff argues that Sandy was pushing drinks on Dana
Ivy making her unable to operate a vehicle with control. Although Dana Ivy states to have not been

Sandy as well as other guests could not clearly identify Dana as being drunk, also considering
that Dana has an outgoing personality. Sandy Hearst mentions in her statement, Dana just

says there was over 30 people at the party, making it easier for Dana to blend in. However, if
Dana was acting different from all the other guests showing signs of intoxication that is unusual
for herself to do, it would be a reliable statement. Even though alcoholic drinks were served,
Sandy provided drinks for non drinkers as well and even offered them to all her guests including
Dana Ivy. Sandy Hearst may be liable for serving alcoholic beverages but, that does not mean she
was forcing that to be the only option of beverages. Lee Porter says, Sandy said there were sodas
for non drinkers if there were any. If Sandy had the intent to push drinks on her guests, she would
not have provided the option of soda to her guests as well as

Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Research Paper
WASHINGTON, D.C. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall has often been called a healing
wall, and for some, it helped them find some closure an their time fighting in an unpopular war.
A group of 24 veterans from three years, 13 of them from the Vietnam War, traveled from Shreve
to Washington, D.C., as part of an Honor Bus Trip to see the military memorials on a three day
trip, returning Sunday night. For Roger Pennell, an Air Force veteran and commander of the
American Legion Post in Shreve, it was his first chance to see the wall. The visit for him was
impactful. Over the years, he has tried to forget what happened in the war and put everything out of
his mind. What happened during the war is what motivates him today to do as much as he can for

  • 2. The Village Symbolism Evil is a strange subject for people but it is in everyone lives. The Village directed by M. Night Shyamalan and The Crucible by Arthur Miller both explore how evil is perceive to be outside of a society. Both authors agree evil is not just outside of a society but is within a community in the form of human nature. Evil is outside and inside a society and individuals. Both authors agree that evil perceived to be outside the community. Both authors utilise symbolism of a forest to demonstrate the separation of evil and the community. Shyamalan creates the village to be isolated by forest which is bordered off with yellow wooden poles. Miller also creates the Salem folk to believe that the virgin forest was the Devil s last preserve [and]... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both authors use characters to portray this idea but Shyamalan only uses one character while Miller utilises multiple characters. He achieves this through the character, Noah who stabs Lucius out of jealousy. The director creates Noah to have a clear mental disorder which allows him to seem innocence; this creates an uncomfortable feeling for the audience as Noah a murderer but due to his innocence the audience sympathises him. This scene is very quiet to emphasise that evil can be quiet and lurking. Shyamalan also utilises also utilises the lighting to expose what is evil. At the end of this scene, there is medium long shot of an empty chair facing towards the woods. The empty chair represents someone missing in this case, the death of a villager. This scene s lighting changes as the woods are in the light and the village is in the darks. This symbolises that the evil is not in the outside world but within the village. Miller employs multiple characters unlike Shyamalan to prove evil can be within the community. Miler s character, Parris is outraged that he only earns sixty pound[s] a year! and that he is not used to [such] poverty. Parris wants more money; this greed causes Paris to play along and persuade the authority that his rivals are witches to gain their land. Another character, Abigail also has evil intentions. She wants John Proctor but his has a wife; this motivates Abigail to kill John Proctor wife. These evil intentions are not caused by evil forces but desire within the person. The accusations of witchcraft are a long overdue opportunity for everyone, to gain want they want. Miller creates the judge, Danforth to be oblivious that vengeance is walking Salam, because twelve innocent people have already hanged. does not want to ruin his reputation so he agrees with the accusers. Miller employs irony to illustrate the evil within the villagers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Ep Economy Advantages and Drawbacks Despite the fact that agriculture engenders an insignificant percentage of the EU s GDP and employs less than 5% of the EU native, the CAP takes up more than half of the EU budget. Additionally, knowing that the BRIC countries have become some of the most significant competitors to the EU, it has been suggested that payments to farmers should be decreased, thus concentrating more on the investment in technology. The distribution of the payments among nations has been highly doubted. We might believe that the CAP aids small family farms to prevent them from going into bankruptcy, yet this is a long way from the reality. A campaign, Famsubsidy.org, consisting of economists, activists and reporters, has been established to reveal the truth about the transparency of the CAP; the movement has found out that rich landlords and even the British Royal family earn millions in EU farm subsidies . As argued by Harvey: Prince Charles and the Duke of Westminster are two of the biggest recipients of the aid in the UK , hence a negligible amount is going to the poor farmers. It is also indicated that the CAP spending is most likely focused on the wealthier regions rather than on slacking ones. This fact proves that the CAP s work is inconsistent with other major and more important European Union goals such as ... The man could leap high and swing in trees. And closely akin to the visions of the hairy man was the call still sounding in the depths of the forest. It filled him with a great unrest and strange desires. It caused him to feel a vague, sweet gladness, and he was aware of wild yearnings and stirrings for he knew not what. Sometimes he pursued the call into the forest, looking for it as though it were a tangible thing, barking softly or defiantly, as the mood might dictate. (Chapter VII, The Sounding of the Call ). Buck s experiences in the northland wilderness awakened in him the long dormant instincts of a wild carnivore. When he acted on these instincts by killing the moose, for example, or befriending the wolf brother he was responding to the call of the wild. His atavism that was, his reversion to the behavior of his canine ancestors gradually transformed him into a wolf like creature that prefers to live in a savage environment in which he must fight and kill to live. The Provision Of Sale And Other Instruments Act 1955 ( Qld ) Deeds are most commonly used in connection with the transfer of land or the creation of a trust, although they may also be used to transfer goods by way of gift. A deed must be made in writing, signed and sealed by the donor (and usually contains the words signed, sealed and delivered as evidence that this requirement has been satisfied) and delivered to the donee. A bill of sale is another way of selling goods and can be used to create a security right in goods. The execution of a bill of sale causes legal ownership of the goods to pass to the buyer. • 8. Lost Boys Sociology The situation of the Lost Boys could be explained using the 3 major theories in sociology. The first theory is functionalism. Humans naturally focus on the negative over the positive but functionalism is typically a theory that looks at things more positively. However, this is obviously not a positive result, but it does come from a similarly positive, and somewhat idealist point of view. The Lost Boys are an unintended result of Sudanese People s Liberation Movement. The civil war could be a result of people feeling that others are stepping out of their roles, and thus have to reestablish what those roles should be and whom should fill them. Unfortunately the chaos can lead to even greater confusion and certainly risk destroying a lot. This indirectly lead to these Lost Boys having to find new roles that suited them better. Even before moving to America, they managed to create those roles amongst themselves. They created a simpler form of hierarchy and social stratification. They also all played into one common role of trying to push the group forward in finding a new culture so that they could create the roles that could truly fit them.... True bravery is when you re aware that the odds are against you, however, you have the ability to persevere through it. Even though you don t want to complete the task ahead of you, an inner force brings you the motivation to do it. America was being a more modern nation, and a return to normalcy was being seen after the Progressive Movement and First World War. Politically, the American government was seemingly conservative, but experimented with different approaches to public policy and foreign diplomatic policy. Economically, it was a time of tremendous growth and new forms of organization. Socially, the American popular culture reshaped itself to reflect the increasingly industrial, urban, and consumer oriented society. The 20s were a time of a distinguishably new culture and profound change and excitement, but it wasn t great for everybody. After 1922, there was a long period of prosperity and economic expansion. Joseph Conrad Influence On Things Fall Apart Books about Africa: How an Author Influences a Reader Without experiencing something firsthand, the only way to gain understanding of a foreign concept is through the words of other people. Thus, without visiting Africa, personal knowledge of it is limited and a reader must make decisions on what to believe. Two books about African culture are Chinua Achebes historical fiction novel Things Fall Apart, and Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of Darkness. After analyzing both of these texts, a reader can see how one s perspective on a subject can be influenced based on how an author chooses to write about it. As such, they describe their stories in differing ways. A quote that illustrates this clash in perspective is found in Things Fall Apart when a visiting missionary thinks about the book he is writing about his experience with the tribe He had already chosen the title of the book, after much thought: The Pacification of the Primitive Tribes of the Lower Niger (Achebe, 171). Achebe wrote this line to show the reader how an outsider can be ignorant to things they don t understand. Reading this line is jarring because of it s dark irony; throughout the whole book, the reader has gone on a journey with Okonkwo and has learned to relate and understand the Igbo. Then at the end of the book, He is using the character of the Commissioner to represent as a whole the post colonial Europeans who misjudge Africans. He states that the reason for the universe must be love because if God did not desire the universe, He would not allow the universe to exist. Through further observation, Aristotle then claims that a change must be caused to change. It is through these changes that all physical entities appear only temporarily. He then claims that there are four fundamental principles that describe all causes. The first cause is the material cause, which states that all objects have an immanent material that brings them into being. It is the result of evolution which is caused by the procreation of the surviving that allows for human beings to exist. The material cause and formal cause can be explained by the efficient cause. I agree with the final cause, because it answers the purpose of the efficient cause. If things can only be brought to motion by an agent of change, then why bring the initial physical entity into motion if not for a purpose. If every object is caused to motion by a purpose it must in some way be contributing to a purpose that justifies its existence. The death of Julius Caesar is placed in full context of Rome s civil wars by eminent historian Barry Strauss. Moreover, the assassination itself was a complexly layered plan that was a direct result of Caesar s power and leadership choices leading up to the fateful day. These key events leading up to the Ides of March and the aftermath that followed are important to the immense effect Caesar s death had on Rome, and the subsequent historical impact of Rome s demise. In the height of Rome Caesar formed a political alliance with Pompey that dominated Roman politics. Furthermore, Caesar s victories in the Gallic War and success of extending Roman territories granted him ample military capacity. Therefore putting him in an unrivalled position of power and influence. After assuming control of government, Caesar began a program of social and governmental reforms. Caesar gave Rome renewed hope and was a leader to the middle and poor classes of ancient Rome. Although, many historians still debate the details of the highly orchestrated murder, it is universally apparent that many were involved in planning and carrying out the act. Upton Sinclair and the Chicago Meat packing Industry In 1900, there were over 1.6 million people living in Chicago, the country s second largest city. Of those 1.6 million, nearly 30% were immigrants. Most immigrants came to the United States with little or no money at all, in hope of making a better life for themselves. A city like Chicago offered these people jobs that required no skill. However, the working and living conditions were hazardous and the pay was barely enough to survive on. Structure Function Analysis Of Sodium Channels Structure Function Analysis of Sodium Channels in Human iPSC derived Neurons Keywords: iPSC, sodium channel, electrophysiology, neuron, inactivation Background: Neuronal excitability mediated by sodium dependent action potentials (APs) is required for rapid and specific communication in our brains. This underlies our ability to sense and respond to stimuli and for higher order cognitive functions including learning and memory. Voltage gated sodium channels (NaVs) open in response to membrane depolarization and initiate the AP. The О± subunit is the major functional unit of NaVs and is comprised of 4 homologous domains (DI DIV), each containing 6 transmembrane segments (S1 6)4,5. S4, the voltage sensor that detects depolarization, contains 4 8 positively charged amino acids each separated by two hydrophobic residues4,6. The positive charges on S4 are pushed outward by the electric field during membrane depolarization leading to channel opening, allowing influx of positively charged sodium ions down their concentration gradient4. Fast inactivation helps return the membrane to rest by blocking the conductance of sodium ions through the channel pore 1,2. Studies in expression systems suggest that the DIVS4 plays a unique role in inactivation1,2,3,6. Although this poem is about Jesus death, it does not exactly match up with what the Bible has depicted in the Gospels of the New Testament. There is a culture clash between the Anglo Saxon culture and beliefs and what the Bible thinks of Jesus during his crucifixion. In this poem the author expresses Christ as strong, heroic, and bold, but the Bible states that he was humble, passive, and weak. Contrary to what the Bible says, The Dream of the Rood proclaims that Christ felt no pain, the crossdid. These are only a few examples of the differences between the Bible s take on this story versus the unknown author. This piece of literature is so highly regarded, even today, because of the culture clash it displays. The story of the crucifixion of JesusChrist had only been written down in the Bible. This shows how time and different cultures can change stories and belief systems.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is composed of stanzas, is written in verse, and has a lot of imagery. One specific aspect of African art was the masks and sculpted heads that represented rulers or royal family members. Two great examples of the aforementioned aspect are the Memorial Head of an Oba and the Hip mask Representing Iyoba. In these artworks it can be seen how the subjects and styles relate to the political aspirations of the perspective patron. The Memorial Head of an Oba is from Benin, Nigeria and it was created in the sixteenth century CE. • 38. The Ontological Argument By Anselm I will begin my paper by discussing the two major versions of the ontological argument by Anselm presented in the proslogion. The first being Possible and actual existence , and the second being Contingent or Necessary . One should start off with the first summarized in the standard form as follows: #1 It is a conceptual truth that God is a being than which none greater can be imagined. #2 God exists as an idea in the mind. #3 A being that exists as an idea in the mind and in reality is, other things being equal, greater than a being that exists only as an idea in the mind. #4 Thus, if God exists only as an idea in the mind, then we can imagine something that is greater than God. #5 But we cannot imagine something that is greater than... Definitions for P2 are as follows. first, conceptual truth: something that can be understood or perceived by the use of reason or imagination. Second, a being: one s basic nature, or the qualities thereof; essence or personality[3]. Third, greater: of ability, quality, or eminence considerably above the normal or average [4]. Forth, imagined: form a mental image or concept of [4]. Fifth, Idea: a thought or suggestion as to a possible course of action [4]. Sixth, mind: the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought [4]. Definitions for P3 are as follows. Seventh, actual: existing in fact; typically as contrasted with what was intended, expected, or believed [4]. Eighth, existence: the fact or state of living or having objective reality. Ninth, contingent: occurring or existing only if certain other circumstances are the case; dependent on [4]. Tenth, necessary: present; needed; essential [4]. Due to the nature of definitions, I will not give an argument for the lack of implied meanings. [IIa] For P2 axioms #1 and #3 appears that using a loose form of relativism the argument holds. For axiom #2 its entirety is an assumption that is to be disproved. Axioms #4 6 are logical deductions from Axioms #1 through #3. For P3 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Recycling Center Environmental Impact Statement Essay Recycling Center Environmental Impact Statement Introduction This paper will present an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of a proposed construction project of a new recycling center in a rural area. The proposed project is to be built in a nonattainment area. The EIS will address land use and development, social and neighborhood effects, economic factors, air quality, noise, and water resources as it relates to the proposed project. Included in the process will be three alternatives as well as a no build alternative. The Environmental Impact Statement will provide a detailed scoping of the project along with the alternatives that will ensure all potential impacts are addressed prior to project approval. Community involvement and feedback is essential to determining the overall effects the proposed project will have on the community. According to Marriott (1997) the analysis and adoption of comprehensive or land use plans are one of the most interactive types of environmental impact assessment studies and can involve many factions of the affected community. Analyzing community concerns regarding land use will be of significant importance. The proposed recycling center would be located in a rural area that has many farms and consists of numerous waterways. The population is medium in size and spread throughout the area. Most of the farms divert water from the waterways for their crops and several unincorporated towns use the water for non potable use. The towns get their drinking water from the ground water via wells. There is one two lane highway that runs through the area linking several small towns and the adjacent farms. Cells are the smallest form of life of which all forms of life are composed of one or more cells. All cells come from pre existing cells. Two different of cells exist: Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes. They are structurally and functionally different, but they share some properties. Some similarities are: methods of reproduction, celldivision by binary fission, mitosis or meiosis. The presence of DNAand RNA for protein synthesis, plasma is the cell membrane and changes in temperature make these cells alike. These two types of cells are different in other important ways. Prokaryotes are some of the smallest of all organisms. Due to its size, prokaryotes can get nutrients quickly throughout the cell. Bacteria come in three shapes: rods, spirals or spheres. Some bacteria are coccobacilli. These are short rods shaped between a cocci and bacilli. A comma shaped bacterium is called a vibrio. A rigid wavy shaped rod is called spirilium. Spirochete is a corkscrew shaped rod. Many bacteria have a distinct arrangement in grouping of cells. Such groups form when cells divide without separating. Cocci can divide in one or more plane or random. Division in one plane is called diplo or division in pairs. Chains of cocci are called strepto. Two planes of division is called tetrads. Random division produces grape like clusters called staphylo. Bacilli divide only in one plane, but they can be side by side or end to end. Gram positive bacteria have a thick peptidoglycan layer and is located external to the cell membrane. Helps in cell maintenance and contributes to acidic polysaccharides such as teichoic acid and lipoteichoic acid. Gram negative bacteria have a thin layer of peptidoglycan. • 42. Machiavelli And Socrates Although both are considered some of the greatest political and philosophical thinkers of their respective times, Socrates and NiccolГі Machiavelli had very different methods and beliefs of how a political system should be run. The mindset of Socrates can be seen in the works Apology and Crito by Plato. Socrates, who values wisdom and justice over power and prestige, would view Machiavelli s concept of a Prince very contradicting to how he believes a good life should be lived. In his work, The Prince, Machiavelli details how a prince should rule and maintain power. He takes traditional Christian virtues, which most see as good, and criticizes them, saying they are vices and hurtful to a prince. Socrates ideal Prince is much different than that of Machiavelli. Socrates found great power in his analysis of Athens, rather than direct involvement. Through questioning, reason, and critical analysis he attempts to instill wisdom, truth and virtue in Athens, specifically in the youth. He was charged with corrupting the youth because his idea of how life should be lived was much different than that of the states. Socrates corrupted the youth of Athens because he degenerated or undeveloped them from becoming strong political, economic, and military leaders. The people of Athens, in particular the wealthy and powerful, wanted their children to be educated in ideals that Machiavelli would support. It was the job for these privileged youth to learn how to be strong leaders so the city could run smoothly in the future and Socrates was undermining this structure. If the youth Socrates was teaching were treated as a counterpart to Machiavelli s Prince, a difference in ideals and teachings can be found. Some of the questions are, What is the difference between creation and evolution? and Is evolution more valid than creation? Evolutionists tend to say that the debate between creationism and evolution is about the Bible versus science. In reality, the debate is about good science versus bad science. Thanks to the ongoing debate between creationismand evolution, people have continued to explore different areas of science to develop a greater understanding of how we came to exist. Research has led us to surmise that creationism is supported by more scientific evidence than various thoughts on evolution. One of the most well known points of the theory of evolution is that life evolved from a tiny organism to what it is now.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What if instead of a common ancestor, all species have a common creator? Supporters of evolution often attempt to use natural selection to prove their point. Natural selection is the process where the organisms which are better adapted to their environments tend to survive and produce more offspring than other organisms. For this to be a valid argument, Eskimos would have grown heavy fur to stay warm, and humans that live in the tropics would have smooth, shiny skin to help them stay cool. Currently, Eskimos have normal skin and wear coats to keep warm, while people who live in the tropics have darker skin. Another example that disproves natural selection is seen in different types of animals. Bears, tigers, lions, and other animals have heavy fur, even though they live in hot climates. A jungle leopard that lives in hot climates has the same amount of fur as a snow leopard that lives in freezing cold climates. Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) is the nontrivial process of identifying valid, novel, potentially useful, and ultimately understandable patterns in data. In recent years, soft computing became more and more attractive for the researchers, who work in the related research field of data mining. This paper concerns primarily about how to use soft computing model to extract knowledge from data mining (database). The data mining preprocessing techniques have been applied on the available data to clean it in proper form to extract the knowledge from the data. Thereafter, statistical analysis and soft computing techniques have been applied on the clean data to select the preferable model. The decision of the preferable model has to be achieved based on the maximum number of minimum value of the parameters of residual analysis and average error.
