6.1 SWOT Analysis.
STRENGTH.
Strong Brand
FBN continue to execute on previously articulated regional expansion strategy being consistent in
their objective of effectively maximizing shareholder value while harnessing the benefits of
diversification. First bank plc have only pursued expansion into countries that will disproportionately
add economic value over the medium to long term and bolster the banking group s strategic
positioning in the Su Sahara Africa (SSA) financial landscape (FBN, 2012). First bank of Nigeria
brand of being dependably dynamic is one of its major selling points. Aside being the largest banking
group by assets in SSA, the fact that a significant proportion of the banking public has business
relationship with the bank attest to the strength of its brand. Part of their strategy is to be dominant
financial services group across middle Africa. Having established itself over a 120 years history as the
largest bank in Nigeria and already as the largest private sector banking group in Sub Sahara Africa

Questions On The Quantification Of Light Absorption And...
Quantification of 〖Cr〗^(3+) and 〖Co〗^(2+)in a Mixture
Natalia Nole
Last updated: September 12, 2016
Purpose
Let s assume that we have two solutions, a clear and a colored one, whose concentrations and
identities are unknown. If we shine some light of some intensity towards them; some of this light will
go through and some of it will be absorbed. This is important because based on the amount of light
absorbed by the solutions we can calculate their concentrations. This important and simple principle is
known as Beer s Lambert law; which states that the absorbance is proportional to the product of the
path length, the molar absorptivity and the concentration of a solution. The product of molar
absorptivity times path length gives the value of K, which is the slope. (Equation below)
A = Ɛ.Ɩ. C
K = Ɛ.Ɩ.
A=K×C
Spectrophotometry is the quantitative measurement of light absorption and transmittance as a function
of a wavelength. The instrument used for spectrophotometry is called the spectrophotometer, and the
way it works is as follows. Let s say we have a source of light, which normally is a deuterium lamp.
The beam of light projected by the bulb will hit the diffraction gradient, which looks like a prism.
Diffraction gradient will adjust so that only a specific wavelength will make it through an exit slit that
eventually hits the sample, whose identity and concentration is unknown. Light absorbed and/or
transmitted by the sample will be sensed by the detector which will be

Linearity In Samuel Beckett s Endgame
Finished, it s finished, nearly finished, it must be nearly finished , Clov, Endgame. Analyse the
functions of linearity in Samuel Beckett s Endgame (1958) and one other play or performance that you
have studied on this course. Your critique may extend to how linearity functions across notions of
time, space, narrative and culture.
A story should have a beginning, a middle and an end, but not necessarily in that order.
Jean Luc Godard (Beaumont, 2000)
The above quote is taken from the French Swiss film director, Jean Luc Godard. It demonstrates that
although a film, novel, play or story should have an identifiable beginning, middle and end, it does not
always have to be in that exact order. In an article written by Amy Antwell, she discusses ... Show

McDonagh s work is quite straightforward to identify these pivotal moments. Firstly we see the rising
action or beginning occur as we observe Katurian, a writer of twisted stories involving children, learn
of several murders that mimic ideas presented in his stories. He is being questioned by police who are
keen to put the blame on himself or else his brother Michal. After reciting one of his stories, Katurian
is lead to his brother s cell. Despite having protested their innocence, Katurian is shocked and appalled
to learn that Michal was actually the person who murdered the children. When he realizes this
Katurian tells Michal a bedtime story and smothers him with a pillow. This is the climax or turning
point of the play, also called the middle. At the end of the play we are presented with Katurian being
executed after taking credit for the murders. We also witness Katurian posthumously narrate his final
moments before being shot, which reveal an interesting ending to the play. It is somewhat more
difficult to divide Endgame up into specific sections. One can say that the exposition of the play
begins with Clov, Hamm, Nagg and Nell making their appearances and participating in dialogue. The
turning point of the play (middle) can be identified at the moment of Nagg s curse

The And Substance Abuse By Paula Dominguez
Introduction Paula Dominguez is a 45 year old bilingual Hispanic female. She is a single mother of
three, but all of her kids where removed from her care due to general neglect and no provision of
support. She has a history with addiction, which led to a past incarceration, but is currently in
treatment for her alcohol and substance abuse. She currently only has supervised visits with her eldest
son, Alex, but is requesting unsupervised visits and reunification services for him. Alex is 16 has a
PPLA and is currently in a group home. He was molested by his stepdad when he was 10, which
subsequently led to Alex later molesting his younger brother, Jesus. Jesus is 9 and is currently living
with his younger brother Seth, who is 7 years old, and their grandmother, Carmen Rodriguez, in Legal
Guardianship. Carmen was considering adopting both of the younger boys, but has recently changed
her mind due to her inability to handle the boy s escalating behavioral problems. There are many
factors which are contributing to the family s need for intervention services, such as mental and
behavioral health diagnosis, substance abuse, and a history of abuse and neglect. Alternatively, there
are many strengths and protective factors this family possesses, such as a desire to remain unified as a
family, active participation in individual and family counseling, and involvement in extracurricular
activities, that the family can use to mitigate existing problems.

Standard Oil Rise and Fall
JEST
Shortly before the Civil War, Rockefeller and a partner established a shipping company in Cleveland,
Ohio. The company made much money during the war. In 1863, he and his partner invested in another
business that refined crude oil from Pennsylvania into kerosene for illuminating lamps.By 1870,
Rockefeller and new partners were operating two oil refineries in Cleveland, then the major oil
refining center of the country. The partners incorporated (under a charter issued by the state of Ohio)
and called their business the Standard Oil Company. To give Standard Oil an edge over its competitors,
Rockefeller secretly arranged for discounted shipping rates from railroads. The railroads carried crude
oil to Standard s refineries in Cleveland ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When independent companies tried to compete, Standard Oil quickly cut prices sometimes below cost
to drive them out of business. Then Standard raised prices to recoup its losses.
The benefits of having a monopoly like Standard Oil in the country was only realized after it had built
a nationwide infrastructure that no longer depended on trains and their notoriously fluctuating costs, a
leap that would help reduce costs and the overall price of petroleum products after the company was
dismantled. The size of Standard Oil allowed it to undertake projects that disparate companies could
never agree on and, in that sense, it was as beneficial as state regulated utilities for developing the
U.S. into an industrial nation
Economies of Scale
As small companies compete, you naturally get market leaders. As these companies get larger they
become more efficient at producing goods and services. They invest in mass production techniques in
order to produce goods more cheaply than their competitors. They buy raw materials at cheaper prices
because they buy in bulk. They expand specialization amongst their workforce. They also copyright
and patent their work, preventing rivals from using it. This is known as economies of scale. The bigger
you get, the easier it is to make money. Smaller companies cannot compete. This is called a barrier to
entry. If you wanted to compete with Ford motor cars, for example, just one car plant would set you
back around $500 million.

What are the consequences of the breakdown of the...
What are the consequences of the breakdown of the
traditional family for American society?
Definition of family: The Western world regards the family as consisting of two or more people who
consider themselves related by blood, marriage, or adoption; also known as a nuclear family. The
extended family includes grandparents, aunts, cousins, etc.
The changing family: At one time families worked together on farms, family trade, etc. They worked
as a family to provide for the family. Parents instilled in their children morals, and values, taught them
right from wrong and the consequences for their actions. With the industrial age, the man left the
home to work in factories while the wife remained home to tend to the running of the household ...

Childcare is not provided by people with an innate love for the child and common family values, it is
provided by professional strangers in businesses. Parents tend to leave the instillation of morals and
values up to the day care providers or the school systems. The schoolteachers have an academic
curriculum they are required to fulfill. Children are expected to have a basic knowledge of social
interaction, letter and number identification, writing their names and tying their shoes before entering
the school system. Parents do not dedicate time to the learning of these skills, which leaves them
behind academically, causing lower self esteem and a lack of enthusiasm in learning.
Parents, single or married, do not spend enough time communicating with their children. As a result
children do not learn how to act or interact with others. This decreased their ability to engage in
conversations, especially when there are opposing viewpoints, resulting in not learning from one
another, sharing ideas, developing a tolerance or an understanding for different viewpoints.
There is a lack of rules in families today and when there are rules they are not consistently enforced.
This causes children to not take responsibility for their actions or to respect authority. Because there
are not enough rules, children are becoming more involved in juvenile crime. These families (parents

Voodoo And Caribbean Religion
Voodoo and Caribbean Religions
The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods is
what is defined as Religion. In many religions text is believed to have scriptural status and moral
authority. In some religions like Voodoo, there are no moral authority or text. It is a community
centered around individual experiences, empowerment, and responsibility and is practiced by people
who are imperfect and may use religion for their own purposes. It is a religion that originates from
Africa. Voodoo is thought to be a various combination of African, Catholic, and Native traditions. The
goal of Voodoo is to serve the Spirits (sevi lwa) offering prayers and numerous devotional rites to God
and other spirits for health, favor, and protection. Spirit possession plays an important role in this
religion. It is an oral tradition that is practiced by extended families that inherit familial spirits and
devotional practices by elders. The forms of Voodoo practiced today are the results of one of the most
inhumane episodes in modern history: The African Slave Trade between the 16th and 19th century.
When Africans were bought here to America they bought Voodoo with them. During slavery an
underground religion (voodoo) started to emerge among slaves. It was a combination of African
religious traditions with elements of Catholicism. Many of the early Voodoo priest came from a
Muslim background. During slave times, Voodoo equaled revolt. To

Comparing Aengus And Shakespearce
People throughout the world have different problems they face everyday. Everyone has to have any
type of motivation in order to succeed. For example, Pearce from Call of the Klondike saw tonos of
miners carrying gold, so he and many other people set an adventure to the Klondike. While Aengus
was finding true love, Annie was trying to tend her family; these three people all shared a desire and
determination. First, Pearce had a desire he wanted in order to succeed his mission. In Call of the
Klondike, it says, Firemen, doctors, lawyers, ministers even the mayor of Seattle quit their jobs and
joined the rush (Pearce, par.4). This sentence means that when the miners brought back the gold,
everyone left to achieve fame and fortune. Another reason that Pearce motivation is desire because
people are willing to take extreme risks in search for fame or fortune. To summarize, sometimes
people need a desire in order to achieve something great. Although Pearce needed a desire, Annie
Johnson from New DIrections had determination for her to tend her family. In New DIrections, Annie
says, I looked up the road I was going and back the way I come, and since I wasn t satisfied, I decided
to step off the road and cut me a new path (Johnson, par. 3). What she is trying to say is that she ...

Amazing Grace by Jonathan Kozol Essay
Jonathan Kozol s book, Amazing Grace, analyzes the lives of the people living in the dilapidated
district of South Bronx, New York. Kozol spends time touring the streets with children, talking to
parents, and discussing the appalling living conditions and safety concerns that plague the residents in
the inner cities of New York. In great detail, he describes the harsh lifestyles that the poverty stricken
families are forced into; day in and day out. Disease, hunger, crime, and drugs are of the few everyday
problems that the people in Kozol s book face; however, many of these people continue to maintain a
very religious and positive outlook on life. Jonathan Kozol s investigation on the lifestyle of these

When Kozol discovers Cliffie s heroes are Michael Jackson and Oprah he inquires, Have you read
about George Washington? Cliffie answers, I don t even know the man (Kozol 8). This quote suggests
the lack of legitimate education that these children are receiving in school. The teachers in the district
are not always certified and the classroom environment is less than desirable. Kozol visited an area
where, only 15 teachers in a faculty of 54 were certified. (Kozol 155). The relation between most of
the inner city kids and their teachers results in a vicious cycle. The kids can be unruly and disruptive,
therefore the teacher, often times may feel hesitant to put forward effort into his/her teaching. Due to
the lack of teaching and discipline, the students may continue to be ignorant and incompliant with
authority. With the continuation of this process and the lack of an authoritative figure at home or at
school, some children may grow up and become involved in crime related activities.
In addition to Kozol s educational related complaints, he stresses the healthcare problems that plague
the downtrodden people as well. On the book jacket, Kozol states that: One fourth of the child bearing
women in the neighborhoods where these children live test positive for HIV. The hospitals in the area
are also substandard,

When a business use scenario planning to explore the macro environment regarding to social,
technological, economic and political issues , it will obtain significant achievement (Ratcliffe,2000).
For instance, nowadays ANZ is considered as the best famous bank for the fact of connection between
Australian banks. Additionally, it is also in a well establishment in Asia market because it has planning
to be active in Asia. It is clear that ANZ will be further to obtain long term sustainable growth and
profitability.
Different from scenario planning, forecasting is concerned with what will happen. Vander Heijden
(2005) shows that the scenario planning is designed to get people to ask question whereas the task of
forecasting is giving the answer (p.6). According to Choi (2011), forecast will be suggested by
managers which helps to strengthen the relationship between returns of future profits. It is also
increasing the company s future profitability. This report will argue that when Australian banks adopt
forecasting and scenario planning, they definitely have enjoyed success in Asia in time.
Critical discussion

Essay On To Kill A Mockingbird Coming Of Age
In the book To Kill A Mockingbird, Scout grows up in a small town where nothing normally happens.
When her dad is given a case to defend a black man, she gets thrown into a world where racism has
been the norm. She hasn t been exposed to something like this, so she is confused, but she grows more
mature in that time. She and Jem both come of age in different ways in the story and get a taste of the
real world. Scout and Jem both show maturation throughout the book. Their father s decision to
defend a black man opens them up to the harsh world of racism and prejudice, meanwhile he shows
them how to be compassionate to people and not to follow the norm. The reason To Kill A
Mockingbird is a great coming of age story is that it lifts Scout and Jem out of the racist society norms
and asks them to be more and model their father s behavior. Even though racism is a big problem of
our world today, it was a bigger problem when Jem and Scout were children.

Tone Deafness
Few people know the range of the different types of tone deafness. However, many people think they
have it. Tone deafness is does not refer to a problem with the ears, but to a lack of training. Tone
deafness is easy to fix by training the ears and the vocal muscles. Lancet is a music professor in

Singing is optional. Reaching for things is not. We all develop hand eye coordination as a part of our
basic survival skills. Nevertheless, we could go our whole lives without singing and be fine. We want
to sing, but we have to make a conscious effort to learn. Some people make this effort as children, and
we assume they were born with it. This is not so. As with anything, it comes more naturally to some
than to others, but we all have to learn. Numerous people believe that tone deafness does not exist.
Many people believe that they are tone deaf (Lancet 2001). Nevertheless, I do not believe that they are
tone deaf, in other words, people who will never be able to learn to distinguish between notes.
Many of the tone deaf people have been able to work on their problem, and by correcting their singing
techniques, as well as releasing their constrictions, they have learned to sing in tune. Tone deaf singers
often have severe constrictions around their vocal cords (Gandour, 2000). Usually they have had these
tensions for such a long time that they no longer feel like tensions. A person often finds psychological
reasons for these tensions (Gandour, 2000). Gandour states, frequently a singer has been thoroughly

Gender Roles in Shakespeare
Gender Roles in Shakespeare It is a peculiar feature of Shakespeare s plays that they both participate
in and
reflect the ideas of gender roles in Western society. To the extent that they reflect existing
notions about the proper roles of men and women, they can be said to be a product of
their society. However, since they have been studied, performed, and taught for five
hundred years, they may be seen as formative of contemporary notions about the
relationships between males, females, and power.
Derrida was right in asserting that there is no outside to the text. His claim is that every text is

In a more radical maneuver she addresses the audience as a male epilogue. If I were a woman ...

It is easy to assume that dominant males in Shakespearean comedy conform to norms of expectation

Mobile Phones And Its Effects On The Cell Phone
Almost everyone in today s society owns a mobile phone. Of the people who own cell phones, a vast
majority of them have purchased smartphones. These devices allow a new level of connectedness that
previous cellular phones did not make possible. With smartphones, people can now communicate with
others through a plethora of different communication services and protocols. Each of these
communication methods sends a notification to a smartphone, which results in a buzz and/or flashing
light to alert the user. The idea that a text or call could arrive at any moment has placed some people
on edge. This has led to many people experiencing a phenomenon called phantom vibration syndrome
. Phantom vibration syndrome manifests as imaginary vibrations, sounds, or flashing lights from a
user s mobile phone. People who experience this syndrome may constantly and/or compulsively check
their phones. They often report imagining their phone ringing/vibrating or their notification light

this phenomenon imagine they hear their phone ringing, only to check it and find they that they
mistook a similar sound for their ringtone. These perceived sensations are technically classified as

Illegal Drug Trade and Ecstasy Widely Range
Ecstasy, also known as MDMA (Methylenedioxcymethamphetamine), is a dangerous drug that should
never be taken. This synthetic methamphetamine drug is related to both Amphetamine and Mescaline.
Ecstasy was first synthesized in 1912 by a German company possibly to be used as an appetite
suppressant or a weight loss drug. However, it was never marketed due to the unusual side effects of
the drug (Morrissey 4). Ecstasy is known to produce both stimulant and psychedelic effects that will
enable people who take the drug to remain active and lively for longer periods of time without getting
fatigued. This drug is usually in pill or capsule form that sometimes has a brand name or a logo

The Creation of Sunflowers
In a land far away lived two groups of people. One group worshipped the Sun as there god, named
Helios. While the other group worshipped Terra, the earth god. The two groups lived in the same
town, and they would constantly argue about who s right. Most of the Sun worshippers were rather
wealthy, while those who worshiped Terra were poor. In the town there lived a young girl named
Elaine Rae. She and her family all worshipped Helios. Elaine was destine to marry a young man
named Jay, he was a rich young boy that was next in line to rule the kingdom. But she liked a boy
named Kai, of the those who honored the Earth as their god. One day a riot struck in the center of
town. This was the biggest one yet. Five civilians had been killed. The cities council had to do
something to stop this. But, since he honored the Sun he didn t want to go through all the trouble of
creating another riot, so he set it off for a while. Kai was a boy who thought past many others, a truly
intelligent young boy. He believed that sun and earth were two power sources of life. He believed both
gods should be worshiped together, as one. He made secret gatherings to preach out his ideas, many
young men and women came and also started to believe in his ideas as well. He would tell them The
sun brings us light, happiness, and growth; while earth gives us life, a home, and food. And, that why
we should worship both. Elaine, one day, finds out about these secret gatherings and is curious about

The Relationship Between Personality And Sports And Exercise
Considerable amounts of research have been carried out on the relationship between personality and
sport and exercise. A psychologist known as Eysenck introduced the Personality Theory in which he
believed personality traits to have a biological basis (Eysenck, H.J 1987). In addition, he also believed
personality could be influenced by external factors such as the environment. Eysenck has indicated
that there are, at least, three major dimensions of personality variation in the general human
population, in which people fall somewhere in between. (Eysenck 1979, 1982; Lynn and Martin
1995). He identified these three main traits as Extroversion introversion (E), Neuroticism stability (N)
and finally Psychoticism superego (P). It has been argued that personality type and individual
differences influence ones view and approach to, sport and exercise. (Eysenck 1979, 1982; Lynn and
Martin 1995). There are many advantages and disadvantages of the different levels of these three main
traits in different sporting activities. In Eysenck s personality theory, extroversion is described through
characteristics such as outgoing, sociable, optimistic and active. In comparison to this, introverts tend
to be shy, reserved individuals who are typically careful and unsociable. (Gorczynski, 2014).
According to Eysenck (Eysenck and Eysenck 1985) individual differences in extraversion are based
upon variations in cortical arousal (the speed and amount of the brain s activity), which has been

The Importance Of Graphic Novels
When most people refer to literature that concentrates specifically on the Holocaust as the subjects,
the first thought usually isn t in the form of a graphic novel. Most people would believe a graphic
novel is something only a child would read or someone to the same educational equivalent. Due to
their engaging stories and appealing visuals though, graphic novels are idea for visual learners,
inexperienced or unenthused readers, and just about anyone else who may not find traditional print
books enticing. Graphic novels tend to show a relationship between the images and the text that makes
for an experience in itself (1.). Sometimes even taking on a difficult subject, an example being the
Holocaust can make for a different kind of experience. In Maus I II, the author chose graphic novels as
his medium. For that, Maus shines due to its impressive ability to speak the unspeakable by using the
popular maxim, a picture is worth a thousand words, to perfection (3).
As mentioned before, graphic novels can be great tools for some, if not all, readers. As well the
holocausts can be a difficult subject, not always easy to read about. Using graphic novels, which often
is associated with children, to represent a traumatic event can be problematic: The enormity of atrocity
is such that the very act of representing it risked trivializing or over dramatizing it, (2). In other words,
the author has to be very cautions when writing serious graphic novels not to get too creative

Stress Is The Body s Way Of Demand
Stress is the body s way of responding to any kind of demand. People s bodies react in different ways
to stress depending on how the view and handle the demand. Stress can be caused by multiple factors
such as friends, family, jobs, schools, and worldview. The way we handle the different stresses of life
can either greatly improve our quality of life or harm it. There are two forms of coping with stress and
the first is problem focused coping. This form of coping is aimed at managing or correcting the
distressing situation (Coon, Psychology: modules for active learning). Then there is emotion focused
coping where we try to control the emotions caused by the situation. Both forms of coping can be used
in unison with each other. Being able to control your emotions could help you manage the stress in
your life. However, it is possible for the two methods to cancel each other out. When making a
difficult decision, a person may feel an intense form of emotional distress. In this moment, making an
easy decision seems like the best option to end the suffering but the easy decision might not be the
best one. The easy way out may cause later harm to a person s physical and mental wellbeing. The
harmful effects of stress on the human body is limitless. When under stress muscles in the body tense
up and become rigid. This is a defense mechanism used by the body to prevent injury. Frequent stress
and muscle tensing can potentially lead to stress related disorders such as ulcers,

Grecian Identity Essay
Greece has been a central pinnacle of continuous change. Change that has been influenced by
numerous cultures, such as the Minoan culture. The sum of these cultural influences developed a
variety of Grecian identities, as well as different interpretations of government. However, these
identities were not a unified, collective identity of the people itself. The Greeks were once known as
something else: Achaean, Dorian, Ionian, Mycenaean, Theban, Athenian, and so forth. The
government was not representative of its people. Shifts in power and authority beset the political
atmosphere of Greece. With time, however, the people of Greece began to strive toward a collective

However, glory can be easily lost, hence Hector s reluctance to leave the battle.
Arête did not discriminate between ethnicities; it was a universal goal. The quest for arête indicated
the priorities of the military, specifically the individuals, during this time. It was more important to
achieve glory than it was to win the war (winning the war was also preferable to many individuals).
Also, the achievement of arête influenced social status. The greater the goal, the more well known and
powerful the individual was. Many times, arête was achieved by the aristoi, or wealthy nobleman. The
aristoi could afford armor and could easily participate in battles. Because of this advantage, the best

Written during the Iron Age (1150 750 BCE), The Iliad occurs within the Bronze Age (3000 1150

during the Bronze Age. Throughout the plot of the poem, both the Achaeans and the Trojans receive
support from allies, regardless of the reason for their altercation. Agamemnon, king of Mycenae,
supports and aids his brother Menelaus in his battle against the Trojans. Others agree to support and to
fight with Menelaus as well, such as Odysseus, king of Ithaca. Concurrently, Hector, a prince of Troy
and brother of Paris, agrees to fight for Paris. In both occurrences, the belief of allies is strongly
supported. For the Achaeans, their

Symptoms Of Manic Depressive Disorder
Manic disorder, also known as bipolar disorder, is an illness classified by extreme mood swings from
energetic to fatigue, or agitated to happy (vice versa). These occurrences of mood swings can last from

2016). Over 5 million people in the United States struggle with this disorder while symptoms of mania
and bipolar I or II cannot be easily diagnosed (Watson, 2016). Most people tend to become diagnosed
with this disorder around the age of 25 years old (National Institute of Mental Health). Manic disorder

Known and Suspected Cause of Manic Depressive Disorder
Biological Causes of Manic Depressive Disorder There are no known humanistic or Socio Cultural
explanations of manic depressive disorder and no exact causes of manic disorder. However, there are
contributing factors that could potentially be causes (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2017). Manic depressive
disorder can run in families and can be caused by genetic factors (May Clinic Staff, 2017). It has been
discovered that about 50% of people diagnosed with this disorder also has a family member with a
mood disorder (Bressert, 2016). Usually, if a parent has this disorder, the child is has a 10% 15%
chance of developing the disorder. However, if both parents have manic disorder, then the chances
increase to 30% 40% (Bressert, 2016). Manic disorder is categorized as a biological disorder that
occurs in the brain. It is caused by neurotransmitters dysfunctioning throughout the brain. Types of
neurotransmitters can include: norepinephrine, serotonin, etc... Since this is a biological disorder, it
can become active by itself or by psychological stress and social interactions (Bressert, 2016).
Behavioral Causes of Manic Depressive Disorder

Homi Bhaba writes that colonial mimicry is the desire for a reformed, recognizable Other, as a subject
of a difference that is almost the same, but not quite (86). The colonizer wants and needs the colonized
to be similar to himself, but not the same. If the native continues to behave in his traditional ways, he
brings no economic gain to the colonizer. But, if the colonized changes too much and is found to be
exactly the same as the colonizer, the colonizer is left with no argument for his supremacy. As Bhaba
puts it, in order to be effective, mimicry must continually produce its slippage, its excess, its

Labor Unions And Its Effect On Income Inequality
LABOR UNIONS With many laws enacted to tarnish their effectiveness in the appearance of a better
functioning economy, labor unions appear to have an unmistakable effect on income inequality.
Western and Rosenfeld explain the power of the labor union and how important of a role it holds for
its workers. Western and Rosenfeld analyzes the contributions that unions made and the consequences
of their decline coupled with the rise in unfair wage distribution. Kristal supports that the lack of
bargaining ability hinders the effectiveness that unions used to have and this event is the result of
computer technology damaging the laborers ability to appear useful and necessary in the eyes of the
capitalists. Union Influence While government policies are a part of Volscho and Kelly s research,
they recognize that other factors affect income inequality. Strong labor unions are capable of reducing
income inequality that is brought on by the decisions made in the market. The stronger a union is, the
more bargaining power they possess so that they are able to fight for better pay and a more equal
distribution of income. Western and Rosenfeld agree with this statement as their research pertains
more on labor unions and their relationship with income inequality. During the 1970 s, labor unions
were at their strongest, with as many as one in three people working in a union. From the 1980 s to
currently, not only has labor union membership decreased to single digits, but wage inequality has

The Disciplinary Dilemma Of Tourism Studies
Summary of the Disciplinary Dilemma of Tourism Studies
Introduction
The study of the tourism phenomenon is a relatively recent addition in academic to achieve a goal.
Five main academic disciplines in tourism research have been identified by Jafari and Ritchie (1981)
which are economics, sociology, psychology, geography, and anthropology. A survey that conducted
by Sheldon from North American tourism and hospitality researchers showed that journal from wide
variety of disciplines were published and referenced included economics, business studies, marketing,
psychology, anthropology, and geography. Despite the diversity of disciplines impacting on tourism
studies, Pearce (1993) suggests that a greater tolerance for eclectic and diverse approaches to
investigated the pre paradigmatic study areas, such as tourism.

Pricing Strategy For A Product
Pricing strategy refers to the steps taken by a company to determine the optimal price for a product.
Among the four Ps, pricing strategy is unique in that it is the only one that generates cash turnover for
the firm, the other three are expenses (Learnmarketing.net, n.d.). Pricing strategy also has a significant
impact on positioning strategy, as price has a great impact on how the consumer will perceive the
product. For example, different pricing strategies for two similar goods can affect whether one brand
is seen as a premium product over another.

In addition to giving the customer the sense that the item is already being sold at a good price, and
therefore comparison shopping is unnecessary, it also saves money for the company by reducing their
advertising costs. In the case of Walmart, they buy feature advertisements once a month in newspapers
when their competitors advertised weekly (Boundless.com, 2015). Prior to their adaptation of EDLP,
J.C. Penney spent heavily on this in order to promote sales and offer coupons to their customers to
drive sales under their high/low pricing strategy. An EDLP strategy would free up the funds used to
buy advertising and to pay employees to change the signage in the store to offer a fixed, discounted
price to the consumer.
In addition to reducing expenditure on promotions, EDLP can create a more steady sales process,
rather than the peaks and valleys of high/low. As Ron Johnson, the CEO who transitioned J.C. Penney
to EDLP noted Wal Mart taught us all in the 80s when you get a steady sales process, what happens?
You can manage the business better (Associated Press, 2012). EDLP has cemented Walmart s
reputation as a low price leader, and serves as an excellent example for the ways EDLP can help a
business streamline their supply chain, as an EDLP strategy has a more predictable demand curve.
EDLP is also very simple for the consumer to understand, and can become a part of branding strategy
for the company as well.

Analysis Of Paul Green Theatre At Detroit 67 And Took My...
When I walked into Paul Green Theatre to watch Detroit 67 and took my seat on stage right, my first
thought was this story is going to be entirely depressing. The scene was a dingy living space of a
family in the 1960 s with a cold concrete floor that served as a modest barrier between the stage and
audience along with a dimly lit single room containing a couch and a record player in the front of the
stage. I could almost feel the chilly aura being emitted from the concrete floor and poorly painted,
solid grey steps leading up to the stage exit. In the back of the setting was a combined kitchen, wash,
and bar area. All these signs of destitution were nothing special except for one piece of the scenery
that did not fit the rest. The Christmas lights that served as decor for the backstage bar area stood out
to me and I figured the time took place around Christmastime. Even still, the lights could not eradicate
the dreary feeling looming overhead in the dark theatre. Then, I heard the music and everything
changed.
Suddenly, Marvin Gaye s voice broke through my deep, somber thoughts and gave me a glimmer of
hope. There was no doubt that I was hearing Ain t No Mountain High Enough, and I knew at that
point that the play would have have a resilient message. The setlists of this play would include many
more 60 s top artist, such as The Temptations, Four Tops, and Earth,Wind, Fire. This was a great way
to tell the story before the main presentation of the story took place. I

At Google, Rubin with his teammate developed a mobile device platform which powered by the Linux
kernel. Google marketed the platform to handset makers and carriers on the premise of providing a
flexible, upgradable system. Google had lined up a series of hardware component and software
partners and signaled to carriers that it was open to various degrees of cooperation on their part. On
December 2006, according to the reports from the BBC and The Wall Street Journal noted that Google
wanted its search and applications on mobile phones and they were working hard to deliver that. Print
and online media outlets soon reported rumours that Google was try to develop a Google branded
handset and some deduced that as Google was defining technical specifications, it was showing
prototypes to cell phone manufacturers and network operators. Almost two and a half years later, on
November 5, 2007, Google took the mobile device world by storm again after the Apple s iOS by
announcing their new Linux based mobile handset operating system named Android. They not only
introduce an entirely new mobile OS, but also announced that it was open source which can surpass
the monopoly of Apple. This was a direct result of the collaborative efforts of the newly formed Open
Handset Alliance. In order to counter the tension from Apple, several companies quitted out from
Symbian or Windows and joined this alliance, such as Google, Samsung,

How Is Catherine The Great Controlled Russia
Catherine the Great also known as Catherine II, (who was the most longest ruling female in Russia)
had ruled Russia form 1762 to 1796. During her time in throne, Catherine had made Russia a more
developed country in many different aspects. Catherine the Great had effected nobility, peasantry,
military, religion and taxes / government spendings. She controlled all of these aspects of Russia and
these are the main reason why she is the absolute monarch.
Like i said Catherine controlled Russia nobility. Nobles were a class of people with high political
static and Catherine the Great had power over them. When Catherine was in throne the nobles called it
the Golden age of Russian nobility, this is because Catherine the great authorized a new law that
would free the nobles form compulsory military. She not only did that, she build many mansions for
them (and there were designed in western designs due to that that was the main style back then).
Finally Catherine wrote manuals for the education for the young noble girls and she also assigned a
charter to the nobles. As you can see Catherine s relations with the noble is strong and you see how
much control over she as on them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Catherine the great wan t much of a fan of peasants, intact in 1766 she declared that peasants should
not get paid and have a one meal plan a day, of course this was then reenforced by the nobles
persuasion. And in 1775 most of the Russia military force were mostly peasants who were forced to
take part. Catherine the great thought of peasant as you would think of pawns in a chess

Self Disclosure In Social Work Essay
In Social Work practice there are different criteria about social workers self disclose to clients. Some
of them consider that it is positive, and this kind of disclosure does not affect the social work or
clinical practice. The other side, there are others point of views that consider self disclosure to clients
a Code of Ethic transgression or violation. In my opinion, I consider that social workers should not
self disclose to client in order to keep high standard in clinical practice and avoid conflicts of interest.
This kind of practice is an evident violation of the Code of Ethic that rules our profession. The Code
of Ethic is very clear about this particular issue since multiples conflicts of interest may arise during
this process. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social workers performs their clinical practice in multiples locations including but not limited to
hospital settings, skilled nursing facilities, mental health and substance abuse agencies, schools, health
care providers, child welfare agencies, etc. In those settings social workers will face events where self
disclose to clients is a conflict of interest since the Code of Ethic defines the high standard for a social
worker practice in the previously mentioned settings as: Social workers should work toward the
maintenance and promotion of high standards of practice. Social workers who are under treatment,
they must decide to disclose this information to clients they serve in a substance abuse program.
Social workers who provide school counseling may need to decide what to disclose clients about the
misconduct issue that will keep away practitioners from school while they are under investigation.
Social workers who provide psychotherapy may need to decide what to disclose to clients about the
severe illness that will keep away the practitioners from the office for a substantial period of time.
Social workers performing their job in hospice settings may be interested to share with clients their

Analysis Of The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao
The Faceless Man Throughout Junot Diaz s novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the Man
Without a Face is a recurring character with no evident features. All of his scenes include an event in
which he is either a mysterious spectator watching the distress around himself or joins in on the
torture. His appearances throughout the story are suggestive of evil or violent incidents that are about
to occur. More times than not, the acts are performed by Trujillo s men. Almost consistently, he
emerges whenever one of the main characters is in great discord. The faceless man symbolizes the
foreshadowing of malicious occurrences caused by Fukú. Fukú is a prevalent theme throughout the
novel and is portrayed through the faceless man. The Washington Post speaks of their interview with
Diaz and stated, Fuku americanus Diaz explains, is generally a curse or a doom of some kind;
specifically the Curse and the Doom of the New World. It seems especially contagious and deadly in
the Dominican Republic, where it is believed that the arrival of Europeans on Hispaniola unleashed
the Fukú on the world. (Review: It s a Wonderful Life 4). Fukú is shown through the many horrific
events that are shown throughout. Trujillo is believed to be able to put the curse on whoever he
chooses for many generations to follow. In the news article Fukú Americanus, Deresiewicz states, The
white man s advent, the narrator tells us, released a demon into the world: Fukú americanus, the Curse
and

  • 3. Questions On The Quantification Of Light Absorption And... Quantification of 〖Cr〗^(3+) and 〖Co〗^(2+)in a Mixture Natalia Nole Last updated: September 12, 2016 Purpose Let s assume that we have two solutions, a clear and a colored one, whose concentrations and identities are unknown. If we shine some light of some intensity towards them; some of this light will go through and some of it will be absorbed. This is important because based on the amount of light absorbed by the solutions we can calculate their concentrations. This important and simple principle is known as Beer s Lambert law; which states that the absorbance is proportional to the product of the path length, the molar absorptivity and the concentration of a solution. The product of molar absorptivity times path length gives the value of K, which is the slope. (Equation below) A = Ɛ.Ɩ. C K = Ɛ.Ɩ. A=K×C Spectrophotometry is the quantitative measurement of light absorption and transmittance as a function of a wavelength. The instrument used for spectrophotometry is called the spectrophotometer, and the way it works is as follows. Let s say we have a source of light, which normally is a deuterium lamp. The beam of light projected by the bulb will hit the diffraction gradient, which looks like a prism. Diffraction gradient will adjust so that only a specific wavelength will make it through an exit slit that eventually hits the sample, whose identity and concentration is unknown. Light absorbed and/or transmitted by the sample will be sensed by the detector which will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analyse the functions of linearity in Samuel Beckett s Endgame (1958) and one other play or performance that you have studied on this course. Your critique may extend to how linearity functions across notions of time, space, narrative and culture. A story should have a beginning, a middle and an end, but not necessarily in that order. Jean Luc Godard (Beaumont, 2000) The above quote is taken from the French Swiss film director, Jean Luc Godard. It demonstrates that although a film, novel, play or story should have an identifiable beginning, middle and end, it does not always have to be in that exact order. In an article written by Amy Antwell, she discusses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McDonagh s work is quite straightforward to identify these pivotal moments. Firstly we see the rising action or beginning occur as we observe Katurian, a writer of twisted stories involving children, learn of several murders that mimic ideas presented in his stories. He is being questioned by police who are keen to put the blame on himself or else his brother Michal. After reciting one of his stories, Katurian is lead to his brother s cell. Despite having protested their innocence, Katurian is shocked and appalled to learn that Michal was actually the person who murdered the children. When he realizes this Katurian tells Michal a bedtime story and smothers him with a pillow. This is the climax or turning point of the play, also called the middle. At the end of the play we are presented with Katurian being executed after taking credit for the murders. We also witness Katurian posthumously narrate his final moments before being shot, which reveal an interesting ending to the play. It is somewhat more difficult to divide Endgame up into specific sections. One can say that the exposition of the play begins with Clov, Hamm, Nagg and Nell making their appearances and participating in dialogue. The turning point of the play (middle) can be identified at the moment of Nagg s curse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1863, he and his partner invested in another business that refined crude oil from Pennsylvania into kerosene for illuminating lamps.By 1870, Rockefeller and new partners were operating two oil refineries in Cleveland, then the major oil refining center of the country. When independent companies tried to compete, Standard Oil quickly cut prices sometimes below cost to drive them out of business. Then Standard raised prices to recoup its losses. The benefits of having a monopoly like Standard Oil in the country was only realized after it had built a nationwide infrastructure that no longer depended on trains and their notoriously fluctuating costs, a leap that would help reduce costs and the overall price of petroleum products after the company was dismantled. The size of Standard Oil allowed it to undertake projects that disparate companies could never agree on and, in that sense, it was as beneficial as state regulated utilities for developing the U.S. into an industrial nation Economies of Scale As small companies compete, you naturally get market leaders. As these companies get larger they become more efficient at producing goods and services. They invest in mass production techniques in order to produce goods more cheaply than their competitors. They buy raw materials at cheaper prices because they buy in bulk. They expand specialization amongst their workforce. They also copyright and patent their work, preventing rivals from using it. This is known as economies of scale. The bigger you get, the easier it is to make money. Smaller companies cannot compete. This is called a barrier to entry. Definition of family: The Western world regards the family as consisting of two or more people who consider themselves related by blood, marriage, or adoption; also known as a nuclear family. The extended family includes grandparents, aunts, cousins, etc. The changing family: At one time families worked together on farms, family trade, etc. They worked as a family to provide for the family. Childcare is not provided by people with an innate love for the child and common family values, it is provided by professional strangers in businesses. Parents tend to leave the instillation of morals and values up to the day care providers or the school systems. The schoolteachers have an academic curriculum they are required to fulfill. Children are expected to have a basic knowledge of social interaction, letter and number identification, writing their names and tying their shoes before entering the school system. Parents do not dedicate time to the learning of these skills, which leaves them behind academically, causing lower self esteem and a lack of enthusiasm in learning. Parents, single or married, do not spend enough time communicating with their children. As a result children do not learn how to act or interact with others. This decreased their ability to engage in conversations, especially when there are opposing viewpoints, resulting in not learning from one another, sharing ideas, developing a tolerance or an understanding for different viewpoints. There is a lack of rules in families today and when there are rules they are not consistently enforced. This causes children to not take responsibility for their actions or to respect authority. Because there are not enough rules, children are becoming more involved in juvenile crime. These families (parents and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When her dad is given a case to defend a black man, she gets thrown into a world where racism has been the norm. She hasn t been exposed to something like this, so she is confused, but she grows more mature in that time. To the extent that they reflect existing notions about the proper roles of men and women, they can be said to be a product of their society. However, since they have been studied, performed, and taught for five hundred years, they may be seen as formative of contemporary notions about the relationships between males, females, and power. A psychologist known as Eysenck introduced the Personality Theory in which he believed personality traits to have a biological basis (Eysenck, H.J 1987). In addition, he also believed personality could be influenced by external factors such as the environment. Eysenck has indicated that there are, at least, three major dimensions of personality variation in the general human population, in which people fall somewhere in between. (Eysenck 1979, 1982; Lynn and Martin 1995). He identified these three main traits as Extroversion introversion (E), Neuroticism stability (N) and finally Psychoticism superego (P). There are many advantages and disadvantages of the different levels of these three main traits in different sporting activities. In comparison to this, introverts tend to be shy, reserved individuals who are typically careful and unsociable. (Gorczynski, 2014). The way we handle the different stresses of life can either greatly improve our quality of life or harm it. There are two forms of coping with stress and the first is problem focused coping. This form of coping is aimed at managing or correcting the distressing situation (Coon, Psychology: modules for active learning). Then there is emotion focused coping where we try to control the emotions caused by the situation. Both forms of coping can be used in unison with each other. Arête did not discriminate between ethnicities; it was a universal goal. The quest for arête indicated the priorities of the military, specifically the individuals, during this time. It was more important to achieve glory than it was to win the war (winning the war was also preferable to many individuals). Also, the achievement of arête influenced social status. The greater the goal, the more well known and powerful the individual was. Many times, arête was achieved by the aristoi, or wealthy nobleman. The aristoi could afford armor and could easily participate in battles. Because of this advantage, the best dominated the sociopolitical environment. Written during the Iron Age (1150 750 BCE), The Iliad occurs within the Bronze Age (3000 1150 BCE). In its writing, Homer reveals the conduct of Grecian cities and settlements toward one another during the Bronze Age. Throughout the plot of the poem, both the Achaeans and the Trojans receive support from allies, regardless of the reason for their altercation. Agamemnon, king of Mycenae, supports and aids his brother Menelaus in his battle against the Trojans. Others agree to support and to fight with Menelaus as well, such as Odysseus, king of Ithaca. The colonizer wants and needs the colonized to be similar to himself, but not the same. If the native continues to behave in his traditional ways, he brings no economic gain to the colonizer. But, if the colonized changes too much and is found to be exactly the same as the colonizer, the colonizer is left with no argument for his supremacy. Labor Unions And Its Effect On Income Inequality LABOR UNIONS With many laws enacted to tarnish their effectiveness in the appearance of a better functioning economy, labor unions appear to have an unmistakable effect on income inequality. Western and Rosenfeld explain the power of the labor union and how important of a role it holds for its workers. Western and Rosenfeld analyzes the contributions that unions made and the consequences of their decline coupled with the rise in unfair wage distribution. Kristal supports that the lack of bargaining ability hinders the effectiveness that unions used to have and this event is the result of computer technology damaging the laborers ability to appear useful and necessary in the eyes of the capitalists. Union Influence While government policies are a part of Volscho and Kelly s research, they recognize that other factors affect income inequality. Strong labor unions are capable of reducing income inequality that is brought on by the decisions made in the market. The stronger a union is, the more bargaining power they possess so that they are able to fight for better pay and a more equal distribution of income. Western and Rosenfeld agree with this statement as their research pertains more on labor unions and their relationship with income inequality. From the 1980 s to currently, not only has labor union membership decreased to single digits, but wage inequality has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Penney spent heavily on this in order to promote sales and offer coupons to their customers to drive sales under their high/low pricing strategy. An EDLP strategy would free up the funds used to buy advertising and to pay employees to change the signage in the store to offer a fixed, discounted price to the consumer. In addition to reducing expenditure on promotions, EDLP can create a more steady sales process, rather than the peaks and valleys of high/low. As Ron Johnson, the CEO who transitioned J.C. • 40. Analysis Of Paul Green Theatre At Detroit 67 And Took My... When I walked into Paul Green Theatre to watch Detroit 67 and took my seat on stage right, my first thought was this story is going to be entirely depressing. The scene was a dingy living space of a family in the 1960 s with a cold concrete floor that served as a modest barrier between the stage and audience along with a dimly lit single room containing a couch and a record player in the front of the stage. I could almost feel the chilly aura being emitted from the concrete floor and poorly painted, solid grey steps leading up to the stage exit. In the back of the setting was a combined kitchen, wash, and bar area. All these signs of destitution were nothing special except for one piece of the scenery that did not fit the rest. The Christmas lights that served as decor for the backstage bar area stood out to me and I figured the time took place around Christmastime. Even still, the lights could not eradicate the dreary feeling looming overhead in the dark theatre. Then, I heard the music and everything changed.
