Phloem Study Guide
(5 pts) 1. Describe the pressure flow model of translocation in the phloem. Does water move down its
water potential gradient in this model? (4 5 sentences max.) The flow is driven by an osmotically
generated pressure gradient between the source and the sink. The translocation pathway has cross
walls that allow water to move between the xylem and phloem. At the source phloem loading causes
high solute concentrations. Pressure decreases, so water flows into the cells increasing pressure. At the
sink pressure is lower outside the cell due to unloading of sucrose. Osmotic loss of water releases
hydrostatic pressure. Water movement is driven by pressure gradient and not osmosis.

Both have redox reactions that establish H+ gradients across a membrane and couple the downhill
flow of H+ back across the membrane through specific protein channels. A difference is that
mitochondria uses NADH and FADH2 as electron donors, which are good reducing agents.
Chloroplast uses water, which requires light energy since water is a poor reducing agent. Mitochondria
require oxidative phosphorylation while chloroplast requires photophosphorylation.
(5 pts) 3. Why is ammonium toxic to plant cells? Explain how they avoid ammonium toxicity. (4 5
sentences max.)
Too much ammonium is toxic to plants at high levels. Plants assimilate it rapidly or store it in vacuole.
If too much nitrate and nitrite accumulate it could also be potentially toxic. In order to avoid toxicity
plants assimilate nitrate or ammonia to produce amino acids. Overall, the atmospheric nitrogen is
reduced to ions that can be incorporated into organic compounds. Plants then use these organic
compounds to synthesize amino acids.

comfortable, the design will not sell. Also, when designing, there must be knowledge about what
target market the company is trying to attract. For example, cultures need to be considered. This is
where the business teams conduct research on the market to see what new trends are happening.
According to the case, the 2007 Summer designs were quite sheer. The international retail director,
Catherine Belletty, found that customers in Japan and other Asian markets do not like the sheer
material (Chua Eccles, 2009). This results in apparel going on sale; therefore, results in a decrease in

The personal vision that interest Le Masne is to maintain a positive work environment that increases
innovation and creativity to an even higher level than before. Vision matters for the individual and the
organization as is can promote a positive work environment and drive work efficiencies. As for the
strategy in accomplishing their vision, it seems to be having a negative effect on the workplace. There
are negative attitudes in the place of work. For example, when the business people provide feedback
to the designers after observing the designs and styles, the meetings tend to get heated with everyone
expressing their opinions. To ensure that there is progression being made toward the vision of the
organization, goal setting and feedback should be used. According to Gary Lathem, using goal setting
theory can be one of the most practical ways of increasing employee motivation (2009, p. 159). In
providing both positive SMART goals and positive feedback to designers, this will help increase the
organization s performance, followers performance, and followers attitudes (Kirkpatrick, 2009. p.
368).
Lastly, another question that should be evaluated is What should the executive chairman, Raphael Le

Informative Essay On Margaret Garner
Would you ever take your child s life so they wouldn t grow up into slavery? Margaret Garner is a
famous slave who was born into slavery in 1834 in Boone County, Kentucky. She lived on the
plantation of John Pollard Gaines and was married to Robert Garner in 1849.
Margaret Garner s background consisted of adult life, education, and family life. First, Margaret
Garner married Robert Garner in 1849. He was also a slave, but had worked on a different plantation
than Margaret (Cincy). They had been married for a long time so, he must have had a very big impact
on her life. Second, Margaret Garner had been born into slavery on June 4, 1834. Since she had been
born into slavery, there is a large chance she did not have much of an education (Morrison). ... Show

First, Garner made it to free territory with her whole family, despite the challenges she may have faced
along the way. The trip must have been a difficult one, with her husband and four children, they could
have easily been caught (36). This must have been exceptionally difficult because she and her family
had attempted to escape in 1856, which was after the Fugitive Slave Act had been passed, so it was
easier for her to be caught and returned back South. Secondly, she killed her daughter so she wouldn t
grow up to be a slave. When she traveled to free territory, federal marshals broke into the cabin she
was in and Garner had murdered her two year old daughter and attempted to kill her other children as
well (Black). She had done this because she hated the thought of going back to her plantation and
having her children become slaves. Lastly, because she murdered her child and attempted escape,
Garner had one of the longest fugitive slave trials in history. This case lasted for two weeks and was
all over newspapers in town (Cincy). It caused lots of controversy, because Garner s lawyer, John
Jolliffe, argued that she should be charged with a murder trial since she had committed the crime on
free territory; this way, she would have a chance at being freed from slavery because she would be
considered as a free person and her children would be considered free as well. But, the court

The Beauty in Ordinary Life
Vittorio De Sica s The Bicycle Thieves (1948) and Francois Truffaut s The 400 Blows (1959) are both
recognized as highly influential films of their specific era that introduced an innovative way of cinema
world wide. With the Italian Neorealism intention of using a more realistic approach to film, The
Bicycle Thieves highlighted post war Rome s cultural society and economy by following the journey
of an ordinary man and his family s efforts to survive. The 400 Blows, being a French New Wave film,
went against the traditional French cinema and practiced the auteur approach through its style of
autobiography of the director Truffaut, himself, as a troublesome child. Similar ... Show more content

A Study of the Dramatic Roles of Women in Richard III Essay
There are five female characters in the play Richard III. Of these five there are four central female
characters; the Duchess of York, Richard s mother; Anne who later becomes Richard s wife; Queen
Margaret who was the former queen and Richard s arch enemy and Queen Elizabeth, the current
queen. The final female character who plays a minor role in the play is Queen Elizabeth s daughter,
Elizabeth, but she is merely a pawn in Richard s plan and we never meet her. Each woman has a
significant role in Richard III and is vital to the script. Anne is the first female character that we meet

others in the play, but is the only one who manages to defeat Richard. This is Queen Elizabeth. Queen
Elizabeth is a passive character throughout most of the play until she is no longer queen. As I have

SONY VAIO LAPTOP LAUNCH IN CHINA
AUGUST 30, 2013
This memorandum is to suggest that Sony should stay on its premium offering and be targeting the
Chinese status focused segment while at the same time working on the Quality of Lifers and
Technosocializers segments and increase their value in our product which as a consequence will
significantly be reinforcing Sony s market share and sales in China within its coming launch of the

The laptop market penetration is currently assessed at 50% of the current addressable market so
growth in this market is slowing. Finding segments within the market that differentiates VAIO from
our competitors is a key to VAIO s future growth in the Chinese laptop marketplace. In the future it
can be expected that as the market matures a larger proportion of future sales will come from
replacements or upgrades instead of sales to new entrants in the laptop market. Additionally,
approximately 50% of the working age population is 35 years old or less and this age range is driving
a move to status seeking in consumer purchases. Customer interviews have shown that SONY is
considered a premium brand.
Although the laptop market will begin to mature with slower growth, we can capitalize on our strength
of being a premium brand when customers choose to replace or upgrade their laptops in the future.
Our marketing program must continue to establish us in the mind of the status seeking consumer as a
premium brand.
With this in consideration and as shown in exhibit 1, analysis from the CLUES report and Project
Compass highlighted six market segments of customers with greater than 60% likelihood to purchase
a laptop within the next 12 months. The SONY brand is considered a premium, fashionable, status
enhancing laptop and this is one of our competitive strengths. After, reviewing the customer segment

Education In Underdeveloped Countries Essay

Education in Underprivileged Countries Nelson Mandela once said, Education is the most powerful
weapon that can be used to change the world. He was right; an education can provide great
opportunities for people. American children have the chance to receive a quality education, but that is
not the case in some countries. In underprivileged countries, children may not receive an education. In
the natural photograph taken in 2009 by American Press photographer Altaf Qadr, Rajeesh Kumar
Sharma has started a free school under a bridge in India to educate underprivileged children living in
surrounding neighborhoods. Most children in America will never have to experience a situation like
this because the government has passed laws to guarantee every child receives a quality education, but
what if the government did not regulate education laws? Imagine the children of the United States
having to miss school because of household duties or cultural influences? These are common
scenarios for children in underdeveloped countries. Inadequate government funding, household duties,
and cultural influences affect whether or not a child receives a valuable education in an
underprivileged country. When governments lack the finances to fund a proper school, children will
not receive a quality education. The government officials in most developing countries simply do not
include funding for primary education in their budget because it is

Pluralism And The American Dream
A pluralistic society with pluralism is what the United States has always strived towards (Friedman).
The mixing of many cultures, ethnicities, and minorities is something that America has been known
for as long as it has been a country. For many citizens the idea of pluralism is closely linked to the
ideals of the American Dream; the idea that every citizen of this country shares an equal opportunity
through determination, a strong work ethic, and initiative. Through these methods every United States
citizen should, in theory, be able to achieve both prosperity and success. However this theory, whilst
wonderful as a hypothesis, is rarely proven to be true. In fact, it can be said that the American Dream
is dead. The middle class of America, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without the financial means change in a capitalistic society is virtually impossible. Therefore, in
theory, more income means a better stance in society. However, wages are entirely stagnant, the
middle class has not seen an income change in fifteen years (Eskow). In fact, when comparing
incomes, Americans are making less now than they were when Bill Clinton was in the white house
(Meacham). Even if there is still the seeds of the American dream sown around the country, it cannot
grow without the water that is finances. Despite the stagnant incomes of the middle class the gap
between the upper and lower classes of American society is constantly widening. This growing
separation is further proof of the American Dream becoming more elusive for more people
(Meacham). One could say that the separation not only makes the American Dream more elusive, but
is a contributing factor to the death of the Dream. Often American citizens, when income has failed,
have relied on education to further their stance in society but this is no longer

The Christian Worldview
The Christian Worldview is very widely known in today s society. This religion has many strong
beliefs about the creation of the world and what waits for believers in the afterlife. Psalms 111:10
gives a good idea of the foundation of the Christian worldview by saying. The fear of the Lord is the
beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal
praise. (New International Version). The Christian worldview has very specific beliefs and
expectations in God, humanity, Jesus and Restoration. According to the Christian Worldview, God is
to be feared, known, and loved as the sovereign creator whom all should glory, honor, and praise. God
is believed to have many characteristics, included but not limited to being unchanging, all powerful,
all knowing, good, loving, jealous, faithful, and holy. These characteristics are believed to be true
because they are seen through his eternal nature,, his omnipotence and his goodness (DiVincenzo,
2014). In Romans 1:20, the Holy Bible says, For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and
divine nature, have been clearly perceived, aver since the creation of the world, in the things that have
been made. God is also the first person in the Trinity, the belief that there is one God who exists in
three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Kilby, 2011). Another belief of the Christian worldview is
that God is the creator of all things; however, distinct from his creation. The first

The Unfair Practices of The World Trade Organization...
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is a set of rules about how governments can protect and
subsidize domestic activity.(Wise) Yet it is this very organization that ignored the pleas from
developing countries to remove these subsidies. In the book The Global Food Economy: The Battle
For the Future Of Farming ,Tony Weis quotes Bello who says consensus WTO style, means the big
trading countries impose their consensus on the less powerful countries. (Wise) The subsidies from the
EU and US distorted the competitive market and unfairly hindered the growth of developing nations.
(Wise) Wise goes on to further quote the WTO President of 2002, Michael Moore, who states that a
reduction in agro. subsidies in developed countries would return more than five times all the
development assistance. Even WTO officials had begun to speak out about subsidies and their unfair
affect on developing countries. The movie Black Gold depicts how the push to liberalize trade at the
global scale through institutions like the WTO, has had an impact on coffee farmers by telling the
story of Tadesse Meskela. Tadesse Meskela is the manager of the Oromia Coffee Farmers Co

Among the reasons for concern, critics include vague and incomplete security guidelines, insufficient
documentation requirements, and inadequate descriptions of the configuration of commercial
software. An electronic voting machine has been designed by a microcontroller for which the code is
written in assembly language. Various code protection schemes specified by the manufacturer of the
microcontroller are used to prevent inadvertent or deliberate reading and reproduction of the code
contained in the microcontroller. The election data contained in the EEPROM of the microcontroller
can download into a central computer for tabulations. The security of data in this computer is enforced
by generating digital signatures for each data file created. This process makes it impossible for anyone
to substitute wrong or deliberately altered data files at any intermediate stage between the capturing of
voter s intent by the machine and the final results tabulations. Prior to the election, all configuration

Health Information Analysis
The internet has become the main source of health information seeking, believe Dai, Liu, Su and Yi
(2014). In their survey they found more than half of Chinese respondents use Baidu and Google to
seek health information as well as professional websites, such as 999 Health,, before perhaps logging
on to hospital or pharmaceutical enterprise websites.
Zhou and Cai (2014) also state that the main channel for health information is an internet search
engine. Among these, Baidu is the most common in China. Search engines have the benefit of
usability for instance, users do not need any special search skills and need only to enter a question into
search box before gaining access to a broad spectrum of information (Wei and Weijin, 2014).

Utilitarianism In Healthcare
The healthcare industry is unlike other industries, it is complex and complicate which requires high
fixed costs and intense investment in capital and labor expenses. Innovations that improve the
proposition of health care such as lower costs and better outcome without a substantial wait time can
be timely. While the costs of health care are expensive in the United States, people find an alternative
way to access medical care and procedure in a foreign country. The phenomenon when people travel
to another country seeking medical treatment or procedure is considered medical tourism. Medical
tourism is not a new concept, the rise of neoliberalism and economic globalization in the past few
decades has resulted in health care being increasingly

Discrimination Among The Homeless Essay
From the wise words of Nelson Mandela No one is born hating another person, for love comes more
naturally to the human heart than its opposite. Discrimination is an on going controversial issue, which
can range from status of class, based on gender, color of one s skin, and almost every group there is
possible.
Across America, we re all classified by at least a category, and social class happens to be one of them.
The homeless, being the lowest class is often looked down on. According to preliminary figures by the
National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH), in 2013, homeless Americans experienced a 23%
increase in violence compared with the year before. Hate crimes are common among the homeless,
especially in Florida according to, Huffington post. Cousins Jose Llano Xolo, 14, and Juan Xolo
Merlin, 17 was using self defense when they put a homeless man in a chokehold and stabbed him with
a pen. In Seattle of March 15, two off duty firefighters and a female companion attacked a homeless
man sleeping on a memorial. Love, smiles and hope are the positivity I want to be spreading like
giving change to the homeless for example, instead of discrimination, which is harsh. Nearly half of
families in the US live below 250% of the federal poverty level based on the Hamilton Project. One
mistake, even a penny short can lead people into poverty, even a dollar can literally mean a lottery
win, because every bit counts, it s either life or death.

Religious Pecking Orders
Religious Pecking Orders
Christianity. One of the largest and oldest religions in the world including all denominations,
Christianity has over 2 billion followers.Originally derived from Judaism, Christianity is mainly based
around the life, teachings, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. While all Christians believe the Bible
to be the word of God and inspired by the Holy Spirit some choose to take it more literally than others
leaving a lot of scriptures up for interpretation.Due to the many different interpretations of
scripturecountlessmen and women feel called and obliged by God to be the leaders and teachers of
these interpretations. However in the religious world there is a very evident chain of command that has
been followed for many generations that placed men in positions of authority in marriage, society and
government.Like so many situations the woman has been placed lower on the totem pole than men
are.
According to the United States Census Bureau there are 158.3 million females in the United States
compared to the 53.3 million malesand in many cases have a stronger and more religious standings
than men;so it is interesting to know that the role of women especially in the church is particularly low

Personal Speech On Football
In just about every football game from any age group there is always some sort of peptalk. This is
usually given by the coach to fire up the players and get them ready for the game ahead of them. The
pep talk I got that night will be in my mind for the rest of my life. My Coach always gave us life
lessons that were key not only on the field but off of it as well. He would say things such as there is no
I in team and anything is accomplishable if you work hard enough. He was always inspiring me with
his speeches, but one stuck out the most. This speech was at one of our Thursday night meetings; we
would meet every Thursday to eat supper together as a team, hang out with freinds, and most
importantly get ready for the game on Friday. We would always sit in chairs and listen to him; Usually
ranting on about teamwork and stuff like that but he changed it up. The life lesson he was teaching us
was play like it was your last game.
In his story he talked about a bulldog, and how the owner showed no pity on him. The man would not
let the bulldog ride in the carriage with him, the dog always had to keep up with the man. One night
the man was riding in his carriage and decided to camp the night out. So he stopped and set up his
camp and noticed the dog wasn t around. The man said to his kids if the bulldog wants to live he will
catch up . The kids were devastated at this and wanted the dog back, but did not testify their dad s
words. The man woke up in the middle of the night to the sounds of growling and vicious snarling.
That s when he heard his bulldog aggressively barking back at the creature. The man didn t dare go
outside to help his dog because he thought the dog had the willpower and strength to fend for itself. So
he heard a long going battle of barking, growling, biting, and whimpering. At about midnight the
fighting noises stopped in a great whimpering noise. He didn t know if the dog was still alive or not
but he went back to sleep. The next day the man and his family woke up and left the tent to find his
bulldog laying in the grass next to a giant grey wolf. The bulldog fought for its life and won, this is
because the wolf thought he had nothing to lose but the bulldog fought for everything he had. My

the media. Being declared the search engine of the year, Google started achieving milestones and is

Google s mission is to organize the world s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
As a first step to fulfilling that mission, Google s founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin developed a
new approach to online search that took root in a Stanford University dorm room and quickly spread
to information seekers around the globe. Google is now widely recognized as the world s largest
search engine an easy to use free service that usually returns relevant results in a fraction of a second.
Google s utility and ease of use have made it one of the world s best known brands almost entirely
through word of mouth from satisfied users. As a business, Google generates revenue by providing
advertisers with the opportunity to deliver measurable, cost effective online advertising that is relevant
to the information displayed on any given page. This makes the advertising useful to you as well as to
the advertiser placing it.

Chapter Fifteen Week 1 Accounting Summary
I chose to do a section within chapter fifteen which is all about accounting. In my opinion, accounting
is the hardest concentration you can take on. I believe this because there are many different
components that go into even just a simple transaction. Accounting is a comprehensive system for
collecting, analyzing, and communicating financial information to a firm s owners and employees, to
the public, and various regulatory agencies. The basics to accounting in bookkeeping. However,
accounting is much more than just keeping records. Accountants assess the information in order to
make firms make informed decisions. Many people rely on this information including business
managers, employees and unions, investors and creditors, tax authorities, and government regulatory
agencies. Each one of them use the same information but in a different way. For example, business
majors use the information to assess how they are doing and what they would like to do in the future.
However, investors and creditors use the information to assess the risk of both lending money and
potentially investing in them. Information kept by accountants are a vital part of anyone in the
business sector. There are two main fields you can go into. The first is financial accounting. Financial
accounting focuses on the external users. This includes stockholders, agencies, suppliers, and
creditors. When they prepare their reports such as the income statement and the balance sheet, they
focus on the business as a whole. Managerial accounting serves internal users. ... Show more content

Summary OfVideotape By Don Delillo
Imagine capturing a homicide on film by accident when you are just a child. Well in this short story
titled Videotape by Don DeLillo which was published in 1994, a young girl by the age of 12 was
recording with a video camera when she caught a murder. The story is being told by a man who is
watching this footage over and over again. He is clearly in awe and shock of what he is witnessing in
the video. Witnessing a murder is not easy for some people, and sometimes people do not know how
to react to these type of things.
Donald Richard Don DeLillo was born on November 20, 1936 in New York City. He is a well known
and beloved author who is adored by many, he has also won the Pulitzer Prize twice. The story is
being told by a man who is watching the tape over and over again. He is narrating the story in first
person and explaining the events that have transpired already. This gentleman cannot believe what he
is watching because he is in shock of how it happened.
There is no particular setting for this place but if there has to be one, it would be on the road or
highway to be more exact. The events of the murder already took place because the man is looking
back at it on the video. The present day would be wherever the man is currently at. In this story, there
are basically only three main characters. The girl who is videotaping is the main one of the story and
the one that we the audience follow. The second main character would be the older man who got killed
in the video.

the bottom of the 11th inning. Fans erupted in cheers at the Rogers Centre, as the foghorn blared to

said Schneider. At the bottom of the 11th inning, as Encarnacion stepped onto the plate, Devon Travis
and Josh Donaldson were already on base. Travis was on third, while Donaldson was on first. With
one out already for the Jays, if Encarnacion hit this the Jays would have a walk off. And win.
Moments after he swung, the stadium grew louder. The ball was clearly going to be a home run.
Encarnacion threw his hands up in the air, and the Rogers Centre was filled with cheering. Fans were
going crazy, jumping up and down, waving their complimentary Blue Jays towels, and high fiving one
another. The fog horn blared not once, but three times total. The Blue Jays had successfully done it

Q1. How and why has the express mail industry structure evolved in recent years? How have the

In the fife years prior 1997 Airborne Express has grown faster than its two bigger rivals, giving it
about 16% of domestic express mail market share in 1997. Airborne has achieved this by a couple of

One of the key decisions of Airborne Express was to target regularly shipping business customers and
purposely passing over residential deliveries and infrequent shippers. Ray Berry, vice president of

  • 2. Phloem Study Guide (5 pts) 1. Describe the pressure flow model of translocation in the phloem. Does water move down its water potential gradient in this model? (4 5 sentences max.) The flow is driven by an osmotically generated pressure gradient between the source and the sink. The translocation pathway has cross walls that allow water to move between the xylem and phloem. At the source phloem loading causes high solute concentrations. Pressure decreases, so water flows into the cells increasing pressure. At the sink pressure is lower outside the cell due to unloading of sucrose. Osmotic loss of water releases hydrostatic pressure. Water movement is driven by pressure gradient and not osmosis. (5 pts) 2. Compare and contrast the electron transport chains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both have redox reactions that establish H+ gradients across a membrane and couple the downhill flow of H+ back across the membrane through specific protein channels. A difference is that mitochondria uses NADH and FADH2 as electron donors, which are good reducing agents. Chloroplast uses water, which requires light energy since water is a poor reducing agent. Mitochondria require oxidative phosphorylation while chloroplast requires photophosphorylation. (5 pts) 3. Why is ammonium toxic to plant cells? Explain how they avoid ammonium toxicity. (4 5 sentences max.) Too much ammonium is toxic to plants at high levels. Plants assimilate it rapidly or store it in vacuole. If too much nitrate and nitrite accumulate it could also be potentially toxic. In order to avoid toxicity plants assimilate nitrate or ammonia to produce amino acids. Overall, the atmospheric nitrogen is reduced to ions that can be incorporated into organic compounds. Plants then use these organic compounds to synthesize amino acids. (5 pts) 4. For example, cultures need to be considered. This is where the business teams conduct research on the market to see what new trends are happening. According to the case, the 2007 Summer designs were quite sheer. The international retail director, Catherine Belletty, found that customers in Japan and other Asian markets do not like the sheer material (Chua Eccles, 2009). This results in apparel going on sale; therefore, results in a decrease in cash flow. Both groups play a tremendous role in the organization at Shanghai Tang. The personal vision that interest Le Masne is to maintain a positive work environment that increases innovation and creativity to an even higher level than before. Vision matters for the individual and the organization as is can promote a positive work environment and drive work efficiencies. As for the strategy in accomplishing their vision, it seems to be having a negative effect on the workplace. There are negative attitudes in the place of work. For example, when the business people provide feedback to the designers after observing the designs and styles, the meetings tend to get heated with everyone expressing their opinions. To ensure that there is progression being made toward the vision of the organization, goal setting and feedback should be used. According to Gary Lathem, using goal setting theory can be one of the most practical ways of increasing employee motivation (2009, p. 159). In providing both positive SMART goals and positive feedback to designers, this will help increase the organization s performance, followers performance, and followers attitudes (Kirkpatrick, 2009. p. 368). Lastly, another question that should be evaluated is What should the executive chairman, Raphael Le Masne, do next? Le Masne should first develop his leadership skills. • 4. Informative Essay On Margaret Garner Would you ever take your child s life so they wouldn t grow up into slavery? Margaret Garner is a famous slave who was born into slavery in 1834 in Boone County, Kentucky. She lived on the plantation of John Pollard Gaines and was married to Robert Garner in 1849. Margaret Garner s background consisted of adult life, education, and family life. First, Margaret Garner married Robert Garner in 1849. He was also a slave, but had worked on a different plantation than Margaret (Cincy). They had been married for a long time so, he must have had a very big impact on her life. Second, Margaret Garner had been born into slavery on June 4, 1834. Since she had been born into slavery, there is a large chance she did not have much of an education (Morrison). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, Garner made it to free territory with her whole family, despite the challenges she may have faced along the way. The trip must have been a difficult one, with her husband and four children, they could have easily been caught (36). This must have been exceptionally difficult because she and her family had attempted to escape in 1856, which was after the Fugitive Slave Act had been passed, so it was easier for her to be caught and returned back South. Secondly, she killed her daughter so she wouldn t grow up to be a slave. When she traveled to free territory, federal marshals broke into the cabin she was in and Garner had murdered her two year old daughter and attempted to kill her other children as well (Black). She had done this because she hated the thought of going back to her plantation and having her children become slaves. Lastly, because she murdered her child and attempted escape, Garner had one of the longest fugitive slave trials in history. This case lasted for two weeks and was all over newspapers in town (Cincy). It caused lots of controversy, because Garner s lawyer, John Jolliffe, argued that she should be charged with a murder trial since she had committed the crime on free territory; this way, she would have a chance at being freed from slavery because she would be considered as a free person and her children would be considered free as well. With the Italian Neorealism intention of using a more realistic approach to film, The Bicycle Thieves highlighted post war Rome s cultural society and economy by following the journey of an ordinary man and his family s efforts to survive. Of these five there are four central female characters; the Duchess of York, Richard s mother; Anne who later becomes Richard s wife; Queen Margaret who was the former queen and Richard s arch enemy and Queen Elizabeth, the current queen. The final female character who plays a minor role in the play is Queen Elizabeth s daughter, Elizabeth, but she is merely a pawn in Richard s plan and we never meet her. Queen Elizabeth is a passive character throughout most of the play until she is no longer queen. As I have already mentioned Queen Elizabeth is a victim in the play but more so than any of the other characters because her husband dies of ill health due to Richard s scheming and lies, and then her two sons are murdered due to Richard s demands, but she still stays strong enough to send her remaining son abroad to save him. The laptop market penetration is currently assessed at 50% of the current addressable market so growth in this market is slowing. Finding segments within the market that differentiates VAIO from our competitors is a key to VAIO s future growth in the Chinese laptop marketplace. In the future it can be expected that as the market matures a larger proportion of future sales will come from replacements or upgrades instead of sales to new entrants in the laptop market. Additionally, approximately 50% of the working age population is 35 years old or less and this age range is driving a move to status seeking in consumer purchases. Customer interviews have shown that SONY is considered a premium brand. Although the laptop market will begin to mature with slower growth, we can capitalize on our strength of being a premium brand when customers choose to replace or upgrade their laptops in the future. Our marketing program must continue to establish us in the mind of the status seeking consumer as a premium brand. With this in consideration and as shown in exhibit 1, analysis from the CLUES report and Project Compass highlighted six market segments of customers with greater than 60% likelihood to purchase a laptop within the next 12 months. Education In Underdeveloped Countries Essay Tiara Agee Montgomery English 1101 September 21, 2014 Education in Underprivileged Countries Nelson Mandela once said, Education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world. He was right; an education can provide great opportunities for people. American children have the chance to receive a quality education, but that is not the case in some countries. In underprivileged countries, children may not receive an education. In the natural photograph taken in 2009 by American Press photographer Altaf Qadr, Rajeesh Kumar Sharma has started a free school under a bridge in India to educate underprivileged children living in surrounding neighborhoods. Most children in America will never have to experience a situation like this because the government has passed laws to guarantee every child receives a quality education, but what if the government did not regulate education laws? Imagine the children of the United States having to miss school because of household duties or cultural influences? These are common scenarios for children in underdeveloped countries. Inadequate government funding, household duties, and cultural influences affect whether or not a child receives a valuable education in an underprivileged country. The mixing of many cultures, ethnicities, and minorities is something that America has been known for as long as it has been a country. For many citizens the idea of pluralism is closely linked to the ideals of the American Dream; the idea that every citizen of this country shares an equal opportunity through determination, a strong work ethic, and initiative. Through these methods every United States citizen should, in theory, be able to achieve both prosperity and success. However this theory, whilst wonderful as a hypothesis, is rarely proven to be true. In fact, it can be said that the American Dream is dead. The middle class of America, ... Even if there is still the seeds of the American dream sown around the country, it cannot grow without the water that is finances. Despite the stagnant incomes of the middle class the gap between the upper and lower classes of American society is constantly widening. This growing separation is further proof of the American Dream becoming more elusive for more people (Meacham). Psalms 111:10 gives a good idea of the foundation of the Christian worldview by saying. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. (New International Version). The Christian worldview has very specific beliefs and expectations in God, humanity, Jesus and Restoration. According to the Christian Worldview, God is to be feared, known, and loved as the sovereign creator whom all should glory, honor, and praise. God is believed to have many characteristics, included but not limited to being unchanging, all powerful, all knowing, good, loving, jealous, faithful, and holy. These characteristics are believed to be true because they are seen through his eternal nature,, his omnipotence and his goodness (DiVincenzo, 2014). In Romans 1:20, the Holy Bible says, For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, aver since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. God is also the first person in the Trinity, the belief that there is one God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Kilby, 2011). Among the reasons for concern, critics include vague and incomplete security guidelines, insufficient documentation requirements, and inadequate descriptions of the configuration of commercial software. An electronic voting machine has been designed by a microcontroller for which the code is written in assembly language. Various code protection schemes specified by the manufacturer of the microcontroller are used to prevent inadvertent or deliberate reading and reproduction of the code contained in the microcontroller. The election data contained in the EEPROM of the microcontroller can download into a central computer for tabulations. The security of data in this computer is enforced by generating digital signatures for each data file created. This process makes it impossible for anyone to substitute wrong or deliberately altered data files at any intermediate stage between the capturing of voter s intent by the machine and the final results tabulations. Prior to the election, all configuration data is set up on the counting server. The configuration is then transferred to the ballot box server. Configuration data include: candidate names, polling station identity, and a list of barcodes.
