A Journal Of The Plague Year, By Daniel Defoe
H.F. s Curiosity and Desire A Journal of the Plague Year was written by Daniel Defoe, and published
in 1722. This book is a novel in form of a journal that recreates the plague in London in 1665. In this
novel, the author gives life to the main character and narrator H.F., which after having the option of
leaving town to avoid getting sick, decides to stay because he thought and believed God was sending
him the message, through a bible passage, that he should stay in London and he would be safe. When
the plague took place, Daniel Defoe was around five years old, for that reason we know that he was
not present at the moment of the plague in London. Still, there s the false frame. The story isn t really
being told by H. F., it s being told by Defoe. That s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But at the end, the detailed scenes H. F. describes are his observations, not his experiences (Kelly 55).
So, by being more of a witness than a victim of the plague, he brings a lot of details to the story, which
is his way of persuading his audience, by the use of Logos. For example, As near as I may judge, it
was about 40 foot in length, and about 15 or 16 foot broad; and at the time I first looked at it, about
nine foot deep (Defoe 2302). For some authors like Juengel, the excessive amount of details into the
story goes more towards eccentric and macabre
But, What does the plague mean? ... Literature has reflected the tendency to make plague a vehicle for
allegory, and the interpretive bent is usually religious: plague is the punishment of a sinful people by
an angry god (Stephanson 225). I think that H.F. agreed with this definition, or at least he believed that
God had a purpose for this plague. From the beginning of the story, H.F. shows us that he believes in
God and in God s messages, just like when he thought that God had a purpose or a mission for him to
stay in

Entrepreneur Interview
INTRODUCTION
Richard Branson, an English business tycoon and the founder of Virgin Airlines once said, Business
opportunities are like buses, there s always another one coming. This quote signifies that there are
always an opportunity in entrepreneurship in life if there is a will to take the risk and motivated to do
so.
Entrepreneurship roots from the word entrepreneur, which according to www.wikipedia.com, it can be
defined as one who undertakes innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform
innovations into economic goods. Entrepreneurs are risk takers, willing to roll the dice with their
money or reputation on the line in support of an idea or enterprise. They willingly assume
responsibility for the success or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process may take between three weeks and one month for one piece. Added to the problem, there
are also other factors that contributed to the company s lost, including the company s financial crisis
and Malaysian economic uncertainty.
In order to save the family business, Mr. Ashaari took over the company and makes a huge step in the
history of BRM Batik. He moved the company to a small location around his house in Kuantan,
Pahang and shut all the factories and showrooms in Kuala Lumpur. He then builds a small sized batik
factory on his land, which worth RM4000. He also changed the factory name from BRM Batik to RM
Batik.
RM Batik has developed so well and stays stable until today. RM Batik still active in batik
manufacturing, alongside other goods such as craft products and local souvenirs. This company is also
the proud uniform supplier for Club Med Cherating, Pahang. With the current eight workers and
RM250, 000 sales turnover per year, RM Batik keep on striving to be the best batik manufacturer in
Malaysia while preserve the Malaysian batik as it is rapidly vanishing nowadays.
FOUNDING STORY Mr Asyaari chooses this venture because he just finished his high school back in
the 1980 s. After his beloved brother passed away, he can t find any other way besides saving their
family business. Plus, he was jobless and moneyless. He sees this as the only opportunity for him to
keep the brother s memory. He chose this business on that particular time as it was fated.

NLRPCHT Case Study
NLRPNACHT 3D models showed a typical structural fold and conserved ATP binding motifs Domain
analysis revealed that all the NLRP proteins (excluding NLRP10) comprised of three functional
domains; N terminal PYD, central NACHT and variable numbers of C terminal LRRs. NLRP1 has
two additional domains, FIIND and CARD towards the C terminal region (next to LRR), whereas
NLRP10 lacks the LRR (Fig. 1a; Supplementary Table. S1). Consistent with recently resolved
structures [mNlrc4 (4KXF) and OcNOD2 (5IRL)], and sequence analysis results, we outlined three
functional sub domains of NACHT/NOD modules; (a) the nucleotide binding domain (NDB)
positioned after Pyrin domain (PYD), (b) the helical domain 1 (HD1) and (c) the winged helix domain

showed a conserved ATP binding pattern except for NLRP5, NLRP8, and NLRP9. Till date, only two
ADP bound NLR structures have been resolved experimentally [mNlrc4 (4KXF) and OcNOD2
(5IRN)] and both the structures shared a common nucleotide binding orientation28, 29. Therefore, we
adopted the manual approach of docking; where the γ phosphate group of ATP was deeply buried
inside the cavity, and adenine moiety was positioned outward (Fig. S1b). To understand the binding
mode and dynamic stability of ATP, MD simulations of both the prepared ATP bound NLRPNACHT
complexes [complex I (AutoDock) and complex II (manually docked)] were performed for 60ns time
scale. Manually docked NLRPNACHT ATP complexes exhibited a good binding stability The
experimental evidence suggested that Walker A (GxxxxGK[S/T]) of AAA+ ATPase proteins has the
major contribution in nucleotide binding and particularly, it coordinates the β/γ phosphate group of
NTPs28 37. To acquire a stable NLRPNACHT ATP complex for interaction analysis, a combined root
mean square deviation (RMSD) of Walker A and ATP was calculated, and the result indicated a stable
array of deviation in manually docked systems except in NLRP13 (Fig. 2a). Further, we analyzed the
total numbers of intermolecular H bonds between ATP and NLRPNACHT from the obtained
trajectories as the function of

Racial Politics And The Race Cycle Model Essay
It has been centuries since slavery ended across Latin America and the United States, yet racial issues
continue to plague these countries. Since manumission, the concept of race has evolved through the
meaning societies have given it. While the idea of race is merely conceptual it has significant social
and political effects. More specifically, through racial politics, these countries have been able to
incorporate race in their agendas and implement racial politics in their laws and policies in such a way
that perpetuates racial ideologies. One of the methods used to understand the role of racial politics and
its effect on racial ideologies and vice versa is the race cycle model. The purpose of the race cycle
model is to demonstrate how racial ideologies are improved, worsened, or maintained, but fails to
explain how the cycle can lead to multiple, asymmetrical outcomes as depicted by the racial politics of
Haiti and the responses of other Latin American and the United States following the Haitian
Revolution.
The race cycle model begins with what Sawyer (2006) calls the old equilibrium. This old equilibrium
represents the status quo surrounding the racial politics and ideologies in a state. In the old
equilibrium, Haiti was formerly a French colony known as Saint Domingue on the island of
Hispaniola. Throughout this period, Saint Domingue was a major plantation zone and France s
wealthiest overseas colony, exporting, Over 80,000 tons of sugar , among other cash crops

The Sorrow Of War And The Deer Hunter
The Sorrow of War and The Deer Hunter are a novel and a movie about the Vietnam War. The novel is
written by a North Vietnamese soldier named Bao Ninh while the movie takes on the American
perspective of the war. Below, there will be an analysis of the differences and similarities between the
novel and the movie. For organizational purposes, the novel and then the movie will be summarized.
Then, based on the summary, the similarities and differences between the novel and the movie will be
pinpointed.
Let us begin with a summary of The Sorrow of War. The Sorrow of War, as mentioned above, the
novel is written by a North Vietnamese soldier named Bao Ninh. For the novel s purposes, his name is

The author attempted, perhaps successfully, to convey the guilt that survivals of such tragic events like
a war face. He is the prime example himself. The author seems to jump from one topic to another
without a conclusion to the previous topic. He then goes back to the previous topic. This makes it a bit
challenging to keep track of the story.
He began the novel from the past. He talked about the war. As one may expect, he does not have a
positive thing to say about the war. He kept mentioning the losses of lives and other tragedies.
Immediately after that, the author will, at least for a moment lighten up the mood and express his love
for Phuong, who was his best friend and love interest. Of course, he is retelling the good times they
had together. The novel appears to be written after the conclusion of the Vietnam war. This can be said
because, the author talks about the end of the war. The scenes in the novel are from Vietnam. Post war
Vietnam was a struggle for the author as it looks like a struggle for anyone who has served in a
combat anywhere and came back to a civilian life. For the author, the post war Vietnam, is a beginning
of a new life, although he was born and lived his entire life there. He has lost Phuong. They broke up
because her occupation does not allow her for a committed relationship. He may have caught Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder. This may have led to his excessive drinking.

This did not mean that the valve had actually performed that action, but rather that the message was
received by the valve (History Channel...). The light shut off, which indicated to the operators that the
valve had been opened and reclosed, however the valve did not reclose (Wikipedia). The PORV
remained open and was releasing a combination of coolant and radioactive material. As coolant water
was released, no instrument indicated this to the operators; the operators had only been trained to
estimate the amount of water in the reactor by doing calculations based upon pressure readings. These
pressure readings were now skewed and thus the calculations were wrong and based upon these wrong
calculations, the operators stopped the flow of cooling water to the reactor. The lack of water caused
overheating within the reactor and according to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission s findings,
about half of the reactor s core melted. Operators had no way of knowing this and also were not
trained to handle such an event. Unlike the event at Chernobyl, the reactor stayed intact and massive
amounts of radiation were not leaked into the surrounding area. This containment, led nuclear
engineer, Jack Herbein to announce publically that the citizens of Harrisburg were in no danger.
Herbein s comments on the plant were near fraudulent because no one was certain as to the actual

Thomas G. Weinandy s Essay Who Is Israel
The questions, what does it suggest in saying that this new solidarity, effected by Christ, is what we
call the Church, and what does this imply concerning the importance of visible communion as a
visible solidarity among those renewed in Christ? become answerable by revisiting and binding
together the three original questions presented at the start of the course. These original questions, Who
is Israel, Who is Jesus, and Who is the church, demonstrate a synchronistic relationship with each
other. By reviewing them and, illustrating their connectivity we can begin to see how one can draw
inferences regarding the new visual solidarity manifested in the church.

Augustine, with Jesus as its head and us as the body, shows an intimacy between the Head and the
body leading us to mystical union with Christ. Continuing, Augustine insists not only will Christ make
us one in Him, but one person, and that the church s structure reflects not a series of individuals but a
unity speaking as one. St Gregory demonstrates this in his expositions on the Psalms, Psalm 60, The
psalm, he says, speaks as though one single person is praying. But it is not a lone individual; it is a
unity speaking as one. In Christ, He molds us into one person whose head is in heaven and whose
limbs are toiling on earth. Gregory the Great echoes Augustine s usage of the word person in the same
way. He says, Our redeemer has shown himself to be one person with the holy Church, whom he has
taken to himself. Hence, one can conclude that as members united with Christ as the body to the head,
Christ transfigured us into his selfless gift of love. Throughout scripture the imagery depicting a
bridegroom s love for his spouse helps to understand this

Taking a Look at Filibusters
Filibusters are quite the conundrum, a pariah of sorts in the realm of U.S. politics, yet an integral part
of our body of government. It is imperative that it remains to be kept alive in a warm embrace with the
Senate, lest it is reduced to nothing more than a mere accessory to the House of Representatives. By
nature, the filibuster is actually a resourceful tactic that utilizes the ideology of free speech to prolong
and create an active dialog over legislation or to prevent a measure from being brought to a vote.
However, in recent years the most unsettling adversity contemporary legislation faces is Rule XXII of
the U.S. Senate. Forty one senators can veto the lion s share of legislation by refusal of invoking
cloture (sixty being the magic number). Due to the malapportionment of the Senate, less than forty
one percent of the population could be over represented, resulting in a conflicting vote against cloture
sustaining debate indefinitely. The idea of a three fifths vote is being required for most Senate action
can be seen as a modern day thunderstorm that overcasts democratic self government. The tradition of
limitless debate in the Senate needs a bit of a review (perhaps a judicial one), as a refusal to vote for
cloture should result in a suspension rather than an absolute veto. Simply put, forty one senators
should have the ability to place an extended debate on bills or nominations for a period not to exceed a
year beginning from the time they reach the floor.

The Squeaky Horn

The Squeaky Horn is a musical instrument repair store which specialized in all major and minor
repairs for band and orchestra instruments. Over the past ten year, The Squeaky Horn has established a
great customer relationship with the music professionals from all over the country, and has been
operated in a relatively less competitive environment as there were no many similar stores in the town.
However, as the new store Best Instrument Repair opened across the town recently, the Squeaky Horn
faced a lot pressure on lowering the price for minor repairs in competing with the new price that the
Best Instrument Repair offers for the similar services.

Unless the price of music instruments become so cheap that an average music player can offer to pay a
new one when they found problems with the instruments, or the second hand market become so
popular that the selling price of the instrument are enough for getting a new one, people will stick on
instrument repair.
If comparing The Squeaky Horn s operating result with the maintenance and repair industry s average
(Appendix 7), we will find that The Squeaky Horn s actual revenue of $664,170 is almost as twice as
much of the industry average of $334,900. However, the total actual expense is $354,070 higher
(calculation is provided at the end of Appendix 7), which results the overall profit fall below the
industry average of $28,100 in 2008. Therefore, The Squeaky Horn is an absolute industry leader in
revenue sector, but did not do well in maintaining high profitability through expenditure control.

Tactical Crime Analysis
Analysis and Crime Mapping
Many people have heard of crime analyst from TV shows or movies but probably do not comprehend
what they actually do. Some people may even confuse crime analysis with CSI which deals with
forensics. In the following paragraphs, the position of crime analyst will be explained along with the
geographical information system and the three most popular crime analysis methods.
What does crime analyst do
For most law enforcement agencies, a crime analyst main objective is to provide information in order
to accomplish their mission of prevention and suppression of criminal activities(Canter, n.d.).
Furthermore, crime analyst effect how policies are implemented, justify budget request, and aids in

The three most prevalent crime analysis methods that are tactical, strategical, and
administrative(Wyckoff, 2014). Tactical crime analysis incorporates information analyzed for the
purpose of short term solutions(Wyckoff, 2014). Tactical crime analysis information is usually kept
internal and produced on a daily basis(Wyckoff, 2014). Moreover, tactical crime analysis aids in the
development of patrol and investigation practices along with deployment of resources(Wyckoff,
2014). Most of the data used for tactical crime analysis devises from police reports(Wyckoff, 2014).
Some examples of tactical crime analysis are repeated incident analysis, crime pattern analysis, and
linking known offenders to prior crimes(Wyckoff, 2014). Another type of crime analysis is strategic
which data is analyzed for the purpose of creating and evaluating of long term strategies, policies, and
prevention techniques(Wyckoff, 2014). Strategic crime analysis is usually conducted slowly and at a
deliberate pace(Wyckoff, 2014). The process of strategic crime analysis begins with police reports by
is heavily influenced by outside sources of information which can be produced by quantitative or
qualitative methods(Wyckoff, 2014). Some examples of strategic crime analysis are trend analysis, hot
spot analysis, and problem analysis(Wyckoff, 2014). Lastly, there is administrative crime analysis
which deals with management needs(Wyckoff, 2014). This crime analysis approach is very broad
where actions are taken either regularly or upon request(Wyckoff, 2014). Analyzing information to
develop patrol staffing, districting and re districting, cost benefits, and resource deployment for special
occasions are some examples of the administrative crime analysis approach(Wyckoff,

1. Suggest five factors that could affect the production of ammonia in the Haber process. Explain the
effect of each factor, using rate theory.
The Haber process itself is a delicate balancing act because of all the factors that affect the yield of
ammonia. In the Haber process, the nitrogen, hydrogen and ammonia are in equilibrium. So five
factors that affect the production of ammonia would be:
a) Temperature. The reaction is an exothermic reaction, meaning it produces heat. The higher the
temperature in the reaction chamber, the less ammonia is produced, as the equilibrium shifts to the

a dense, oily liquid that detonates if heated to 218°C or if subjected to mechanical shock. The
molecule is explosive for three reasons: 1). Nitroglycerin contains both oxidant and fuel. 2). The
decomposition is highly exothermic. Many reactions occur when nitroglycerin detonates, but the
overall process can be written 4C3H5(ONO2)3([pic]) [pic]12 CO2(g) + 10 H2O(g) + 6 N2(g) + O2(g)
The reaction releases an enormous amount of heat because many strong bonds in the product gas
molecules replace the fewer, weaker bonds in nitroglycerin. Every mole of nitroglycerin that detonates
releases about 1.5 MJ of heat! 3). A large volume of gas is produced

Code of Conduct in the Workplace
What do we think about when we hear the words code of conduct? There will be a lot of difference of
opinions from different individuals, but I think it is basically what an organization expects from its
members. Almost every organization, whether it be a Fortune 500 company, a small restaurant chain,
bar, or even a fraternal order, they all have expectations of how each of its members or employees
should act among each other and when dealing with customers outside the organization. Most of these
principles will be set forth by an organization in their Code of Conduct which will most likely have to
be reviewed and signed by you before becoming an employee of the company. Most organizations will
impose some type of penalty for those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are most definitely significant because under federal law, they must implement these into their
normal daily business practices. All employees must understand them and acknowledge them by
usually singing a written statement that goes on file in their employment record. Chipotle like most
organizations prohibits unlawful discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment in the workplace.
And in most places, if an employee is found to have participated in one of these acts, they will be
disciplined up to and including termination from the organization. Chipotle believes that abiding by
these rules and values due to the fact that they make good business sense and are most definitely the
right things to do!
Most organizations will tell you it is hard to ensure that employees are following the code of conduct
without relying on word from someone that might have witnessed the violation. In the case of
Chipotle, they could install cameras in their restaurants to help monitor the day to day activity of their
employees. They could offer the employees surveys to see how the management team is doing around
them and ask them certain questions about the code of conduct policies to see if they feel someone is
in violation of them. It is hard in a business of fast food to always watch each employee and how they
act around each other and the customers. The managers and

The Historical Jesus, Jesus as Messiah, and Jesus the...
Jesus Christ, the figure who changed history more than any other, did many miracles to show others
that he was God s son. God gave Jesus power over nature, power over disease, and even power over
death. As a young Christian, my knowledge was a little understudied, to say the least. Now, as this
module comes to a close, I realize that I have learned so much! While writing this summary paper, I
intend to discuss my understanding of the historical Jesus, Jesus as the Messiah, and Jesus as the
Personal Savior. About two thousand years ago God arranged the most humiliating circumstances
possible for his incarnation into humanity. Jesus was born to a teenage virgin named Mary and her
husband Joseph.

When Mary arrived, Elizabeth s baby leaped in her womb for joy. This confirmed Gabriel s prophecy
that John would have the Holy Spirit even before birth (New Advent, 2006)
Joseph considered calling off the marriage after learning that Mary had conceived. Gabriel appeared to
Joseph in a dream and told him to marry her because the conception was caused by the Holy Spirit.
Joseph took Mary as his wife and kept her a virgin until Jesus was born.
Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem to register for a census. While there, Mary gave birth to Jesus. She
laid him in a manger because there was no room at the inn. Shepards visited Jesus there.
Later, wise men brought gifts to Jesus. They told Herod the Great, a wicked king, that Jesus would
rule Israel. Herod sent soldiers to kill the children in Bethlehem. Warned by an angel, Joseph took his
family to Egypt. After Herod died, they returned to Israel and raised Jesus in a town called Nazareth.
Jesus grew up in Nazareth. The Bible gives us a little information about his childhood. Jesus was
taken to Jerusalem for Passover when he was twelve. He spoke with the teachers at the Temple, who
were amazed at his understanding (Life of Christ, 2006). Joseph was a carpenter, and taught Jesus the
trade. Jesus worked as a carpenter until his ministry began. He was about thirty years old at the time.
Jesus taught people how to live godly lives. As he traveled around Israel, Jesus taught with sermons
and parables. He

Different Aspects Of A Disease System
DISCUSSION
Zoonotic disease systems are complex and difficult to predict because there are a large number of
biotic and abiotic variables (Alexander et al. 2012). These variables may include biological, genetic,
ecological, environmental, and socio economic factors (Wilcox and Gubler 2005, Estrada Pena et al
2014). However, integrated models can provide crucial insights into the ecological dynamics of a
disease system (Plowright et al. 2008), and they can help inform public health interventions and guide
public health policies (Leach and Scoones 2013). By simplifying these different aspects of a zoonotic
disease system into constrained components that are easier to understand, models can answer specific
questions about disease system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our MTILG analyses revealed no significant concordance between either species in our study area,
suggesting that the movements of mice and ticks across the region are mutually independent. Indeed, a
previous study on the population genetics of black legged ticks in southern Quebec had shown that
long distance dispersal events likely drive tick movement across the landscape (Leo et al. 2015b).
Therefore, examination of tick and mouse distributions across the region should be performed
independently. Nonetheless, disease models predicting zoonotic disease emergence that engage a multi
species approach will produce more accurate risk projections (Estrada Pena et al. 2014) and so our
efforts to model B. burgdorferi emergence simultaneously incorporated both the black legged ticks
and the white footed mouse.
In addition to host vector pathogen interactions our model also incorporated climate and landscape
based parameters. This is because species respond differently to varying conditions and models that
focus on using only single predictor variable risk omitting the effects of variables operating at other
spatial scales (Raghavan et al. 2013, Riley et al. 2015). Studies on the Lyme disease system in North
America have shown that disease transmission risks in any region can be substantially correlated with
landscape heterogeneity (Brownstein et al. 2005),

Immanuel Kant (1724 1804):
Immanuel Kant was a modern day German deontologist from Prussia and became one of history s
most famous Philosophers. A deontologist is someone who believes in acts that are strictly right or

However his work in epistemology (the study of knowledge) and theology (the study of religion) are
still influential to current philosophers of our time. He was also known for his beliefs in ethics and his

An example of this would be our duty as humans to tell the truth, this would be considered a perfect
duty. Lying on the other hand would be considered an imperfect duty, because no one benefits from
lying. (Kristina)
The categorical imperative has different formulations; however there are three famous formulations
per my readings. The first is act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will
that it should become a universal law . This is describing an action based on perfect duty and
imperfect duty. A perfect duty is an action that would be blameworthy if the duty was not met and
imperfect duty would be an action that would not be considered blameworthy if not met because you
made the attempt for the better good of the universe and should be praised for taking on this action on
your own. An example of this is a police officer who is killed in the line of duty, he cannot be blamed
for not completing his duties as an officer because he died while doing his job; however the officer
will be praised and honored by his family and peers for doing his duty as an officer and doing his best
to uphold the law. (Driver, 2006).
The second is Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person in the person of
another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means . This formulation is based

Personal Narrative-Scum Frogging At Shakamak
Scum Frogging at Shakamak
Locating bass can sometimes prove to be a futile attempt leaving one to wonder, where did they all
go? During one such outing at Shakamak State Park located in Jasonville Indiana. I found myself
searching shallow and deep, shade and sun, grass and rock, dead falls and standing timber for any bass
willing to take the bait. I had decided that the bass just were not in a feeding mood but I was. I eased
into a cove and pondered my predicament over a cold drink and turkey sandwich. I had searched every
possible hiding spots in that lake and wondered what it would take to salvage the day after such a long
trip to enjoy some of the great bass fishing Shakamak State Park has to offer. My boat drifted deeper
into the shallow cove and as I approached the shoreline I began to hear a sound I had not heard since I
was a boy fishing farm ponds in Tennessee. Even though the sound brought on ... Show more content

On this trip I found that the bass preferred the scum that covered these lay downs or the scum that was
located near this cover. Bass will cruise along under the cover of the scum in search of baitfish but
prefers to be close to deeper water and cover so that they can move into it if danger approaches. The
bigger bass came from the narrow stretches of thick scum that lined the deeper banks where the water
underneath this scum was two to three feet. Most of the scum was in the shallow coves so that s where
most of the bass were caught but when I came across the occasional deep scum line there was nearly
always a good bass lurking beneath. Skakamak State Park provides great bass fishing with lots of
different cover available for the bass. On your next trip to Shakamak pack a heavy weight rod rigged
with some heavy braid and a scum frog tied on. If you are having trouble finding the bass be sure to
give the scum and the frog a try, and you might just be hooked on frogging for

Personal Values And Beliefs Regarding Leadership
Leadership If you actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you
are a leader (John Quincy Adams, as cited in Forbes, 2014, p. 1). A leader is mentor, guiding others to
their best. In this paper, I will reflect on my personal values and beliefs regarding leadership. Next, I
will discuss a leader in my life that personally resonates with me. I will then discuss the attributes of
my chosen leader and relate them to theory on leadership, emotional intelligence, self awareness,
group dynamics and peace and power concepts and identify the leadership style that my chosen leader
embodies. Finally, I will discuss how my leadership philosophy and the newly acquired theory will
impact my future career as a nurse.
Personal Leadership Values
A leader is more than just running a group; it is some one who impacts at least one other person s life
in a positive way. A leader is someone who can guide others into accomplishing some success and
goals. Furthermore, empower others is essential in the ability to maintain positive leadership. A leader
is caring, must be willing to adapt and share the values of others, while still preserving their own
personal values and beliefs. One aspect of being a good leader is having strong self awareness
described as knowing your own strengths and weaknesses. Emotional intelligence, another aspect of
being a respectable leader, is knowing your inner emotional state and remaining in control of it.

How Did The French And Indian Culture Affect The Cherokee...
The Cherokee was one of the many native american tribes that was affected by the arrival of the
europeans and colonization. The Cherokee culture was a typical culture like any other native american
tribe. They spoke the language that is known as Tsalagi. They harvested beans, corn and squash most
commonly known to Cherokee as The Three Sisters . They also had their own ways of doing things
such as their own philosophy and hunting style. The Cherokee philosophy is known as the right way
which is trying to find peace and harmony in every part of their life. Their hunting weapons included
blow guns, bow and arrows and spears, which is mostly weapons that can be made instantly. When
they hunt game and kill an animal they apologize to the animal s spirit that has just been slain. The
traditional Cherokee method of healing was also an important part of Cherokee culture that involved
more than just medicine but also traditional Cherokee rituals. The Cherokee s culture was greatly
affected by colonization because many of the important aspects of their culture changed. This can be
proven from an excerpt from americanhistory.com which states As British and French colonial
aspirations began to clash, the Cherokee became increasingly important as a buffer and continued to
alternate alliances between the two nations This is explaining the spark of a war that was known as the
French and Indian war which defied the Cherokee philosophy completely.Due to colonization the

Reforming Inequality Research Paper
Reforming Inequality Despite dipping below ten percent between the late 1960 s and early 1970 s, the
income gap in the United States has climbed steadily over the last fifty years. From its low point in
1973, the wealthiest Americans income share now exceeds even that which they held in 1928, on the
eve of the Great Depression. Experts have pointed to several potential culprits, including the
underrepresentation of lower and middle class citizens in legislatures, the shrinking power of
organized labor, the expanding power of organized business, and a tax system that seems to
disproportionately favor those at the top at the expense of those on the bottom. These factors vary
greatly in level of impact and the feasibility of potential solutions, ... Show more content on

No matter how effective a plan may be at the former, if it cannot succeed at the latter it will never be
implemented. Convincing enough voters to support the tax plan will be extremely difficult, due to
both the high levels of ideological opposition to taxes and the resources and organizational strength of
the measure s primary opponents. Per an April 2016 Gallup poll, 61% of Americans believe that the
wealthy pay too little in taxes (Gallup), so Americans at least agree in principle that taxes should be
increased for the wealthy. Additionally, by emphasizing elements of the measure that could appeal to
conservative voters, such as keeping money from leaving the economy, candidates could generate
crossover appeal to both conservative and liberal parts of the electorate. The chief difficulty,
ultimately, will be overcoming the formidable organizations those with a vested interest in keeping
taxes low can bring to bear. Just as they did in the 1970 s, business and financial leaders will marshal
their extensive capacity to launch multi faceted campaigns (Hacker 125), exerting pressure on
incumbent candidates to distance themselves from the new tax policy and organizing opposition via
advertising, political action committees, and donations. To counteract this disadvantage, candidates
must mobilize wealthy liberal activists sympathetic to the cause of tax

Identifying Covalent, Ionic And Hydrogen Bonds
After completing the lab, we will be able to identify covalent, ionic, and hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen
bonds are the weakest between all the three types of bonds we will be observing and it occurs between
hydrogen and oxygen atom or nitrogen atom; hydrogen bonds are a type of dipole dipole bond. A
dipole dipole interaction occurs because of polar molecules. We should know that the bond between
hydrogen and oxygen in a water molecule is covalent. Another example, of covalent bond is the bond
between all the atoms that compose ethane. Another objective that we will observe is solubility, the
lab mentions. An example, of an ionic bond is NaCl, this is an ionic bond because the Na+ and Cl , the

A water molecule is able to interact with up to four other water molecules to create a tetrahedral. The
second part of the lab, we will be observing cohesion and adhesion theories. Cohesion is when water
molecules stick to each other and adhesion is the occurrence of water molecules sticking to other
molecules. To observe adhesion and cohesion, we will pipette a drop of water on a piece of parafilm;
we will be looking for if they water will be stuck together or did it spread apart, we will be explaining
our observations. We will then, repeat the same experiment, however instead of parafilm we will use a
glass slide; we will try to compare cohesion between the water molecules and the adhesion between
the water and glass slide. After, we are done pipetting the water and observing, we will then
demonstrate what happened in the pipette part (both the parafilm and the glass slide) of the experiment
using the 12 water molecules and the non magnetic tray. The third part of the experiment consists of

Participatory Response
According to Gerrig, participatory response is a process where readers encode the types of mental
contents as they would encode them if they were the participants in the narrative world. Gerrig divides
participatory response in the following seven categories, such as the emotional response, outcome
preference, problem solving instructions, problem solving assertions, self projection, re plotting and
character evaluation. Immersion is a phase called by Victor Nell as lost in a book where reader s mind
merges with the storyline and simulates a fictional world as a temporary escape from reality. As a part
of the emotional response, the reader might feel sorry, sympathetic or even start associating himself
with one of the characters. Reading process provides an environment for a reader that engages him in

The Five Yamas of Hatha Yoga Essay
The Five Yamas of Hatha Yoga
Yoga is a discipline both involving physical and mental control that originated in India. The word
Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word, yug , meaning union and it means the joining of the
individual spirit with the universal spirit. The type of yoga known as Hatha Yoga, ( Ha sun, tha moon)
is what is most commonly practiced and this yoga involves the path of the mind and body and is the
most physical. There are eight limbs or steps of Hatha Yoga, the first step being the five Yamas. There

Yet, as I became more knowledgeable and wise, I gave up meat and haven t eaten it in ten years. The
reason I did so was simply because I believe in the sanctity and integrity of all life forms.
The second yama is Satya, whose translation from Sanskrit is truthfulness. It requires one to respect
the truth in thinking, action, and speech. Satya is a very large concept. It means that you should not
say something that you know is false. It also means that you should not lead others into error by
making them believe that you know something when you only presume. Saying the truth is extremely
difficult, for, before telling the truth you must know it through personal experimentation; you must
discover the truth about yourself and release false pretenses. The way I live truthfulness in my heart is
to be truthful to myself and to my heart. I need to do that before I can open up the truth to everyone
else. One of the ways in which I practice truthfulness to myself is by knowing and respecting my
abilities and limitations. For example, I am very aware of my knowledge of other subjects. In some
subjects such as math and physics I excel, however, in others, such as politics or history, I am not as
capable as other people. So, when discussions of subjects in which I am not so competent come up, I

Overcoming Adversity In The Three Ways To Overcoming...
Before getting back up after you fall you have to gather all your strength and push whatever made you
fall harder.Every time you fall the same solution might not work so you have to be stubborn and keep
an attitude that tells your challenger Try your best shot, and that if you fall you won t be gone for
long.People overcome obstacles in less than three ways the three ways are by keeping a positive
attitude, being determined, and lastly being a creative problem solver. First,in ways, people overcome
obstacles is keeping a positive attitude since when you have a positive attitude you are harder to
discourage. An example of positive attitude while facing adversity would be in the text A work in
progress where Aimee Mullin faces her adversity with humor like when she broke her wooden leg and
while all the other people in that room were freaking out all she could think about was that her parents
were going to kill her.I chose this example because out of all the stories we read in class about facing
adversity Aimee Mullin struck me as the most positive about her obstacle. It s important because it
shows my point that with a positive attitude you don t get discouraged as easily and like Aimee Mullin
you can achieve whatever you wish no matter your adversity.Another example from A work in
progress that shows positive attitude would be when Aimee Mullin got her new legs and was stating
all the good qualities about her legs instead of being like oh I don t this about them or

The Raft Of Flowers By Robert Frost
In his poem The Tuft of Flowers, Robert Frost tells the story of a lonely man who is turning grass in a
field after a mower has cut it down. Though the man at first believes he is completely alone and that
all other people are too, he later reevaluates that position, concluding the opposite that connections
exist between everyone and everything and that nobody is ever alone. Frost argues that one is never
truly alone as all people are connected to each other. Initially, the speaker in the poem feels lonely and
unconnected to the world around him, I must be, as he had been, alone, (ln 8). Frost s use of
punctuation is especially interesting in this phrase as he uses a comma immediately before an em dash,
enormously exaggerating the pause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frost s use of personification in this line is overwhelming, calling attention to the speaker s newly
awakened sense of closeness with other people. The speaker, overjoyed to see the tuft of flowers
amidst the destruction of the rest of the field, realizes that the mower must have also seen the beauty
of the flowers, noting, The mower in the dew had loved them thus,/By leaving them to flourish, not
for us (ln 27 28). The speaker understands that the mower had left the flowers for purely selfish
reasons, but at the same time, he feels connected to the mower on the basis that they had both
recognized and admired the beauty of the flowers. This revelation leads him to conclude that people
are connected to each other in both obvious and subtle ways, calling the mower a spirit kindred to my
own (ln. 35). Interestingly, lines 9 and 10 are juxtaposed with the last two lines of the poem: Men
work together, I told him from the heart,/ Whether they work together or apart (ln 41 42). Not only
does the speaker contradict his earlier statement, but Frost also mirrors the wording, the two sentences
appearing nearly identical, in order to create a visual representation of the meaning of his words:
people are more alike than they are different and therefore bonds exist between all people. Frost also
structures the poem in such a way

Note. From U.S. Electoral College 2000 Presidential Election. Delegate selection for the Electoral
College happens in a variety of ways. Each state decides how it selects its electors. Currently, every
state allows its electors to be chosen by popular vote. The political party usually nominates electors at
their state conventions or by a vote of the party s central committee. Political parties select electors to
recognize their service and dedication. These electors are state elected officials, party leaders, or
people with a personal or political affiliation with a candidate. Some states show the electors names on
the ballot others do not. Voters should research the process of selecting electors in their state and for
their political party. Voters should inform themselves on what their ballot format is before National
Election Day. When we vote for a pair of candidates on a ticket, we are selecting a group of electors to

To Kill A Mockingbird Moral Development Essay
Kohlberg s Moral development in Kill a Mockingbird Lawrence Kohlberg created critical culturally
universal stages of moral growth which can be used to explain the behavior of characters in to kill a
Mockingbird book by Harper Lee. The book Kill Mockingbird tells a story of children growing up
stage by stage from a tender age and their lives changing so we can observe the moral development
through various events. Kohlberg believes that the morals of people develop at different levels starting
from one to six levels. However, from the Kill a Mockingbird the moral development is illustrated
using three main characters Atticus, Scout and Jem Finch. Kohlberg s moral development is divided
into three stages; pre conventional, conventional, and post conventional morality, which can be used to

Informality was also standard in company correspondence. Welch faxed handwritten notes to anyone
in the company who he felt deserved personal communication, whether to motivate, correct, or

extensive performance evaluations that sometimes ran several pages. This exercise not only gave
specific and ongoing feedback to employees but was a chance for Welch to reflect on the businesses
that each employee was leading. The atmosphere of informality was perhaps most critical among GE s
top leadership, where the confidence that came from being in familiar company encouraged
executives to openly praise or criticize each other. Welch consistently forced executives to bicker in
meetings, the idea being to force management to know their businesses, processes, and issues
thoroughly before engaging in discussion with the boss. Under such conditions Welch could determine
a manager s level of dedication or passion for a plan or policy by noting the extent to which he was
willing to argue. Welch was typically rude and had little patience for half measures and was equally
combative in performance review meetings, in which company leaders would discuss the employees
within their respective divisions. Welch could be quick to make judgments with seemingly limited

A Report On Woolworths Company
My chosen business that my report will be based on is the Woolworths company, known primarily in
Australia for their supermarket s and retail chains. Woolworths run several high profile Australian
stores such as BWS, Dan Murphys, Big W and the highly publicized Masters. The reason for my
choice of Woolworths was that as they are one of the biggest companies and employers in Australia,
and have recently been in the media spotlight for the closing of one of the recent projects Masters.
Another major reason as to my choice of Woolworths is that there supply chain would be as
interesting and extensive as any other Australian based company. With almost a thousand
supermarkets Australia wide and over 100 thousand staff, Woolworths is one of the countries
prominent employers (Woolworths limited 2012).
An added incentive as to why I chose to do my report on Woolworths was that they are my current
employer. I believe that by learning more about the current supply chain structure and management of
the company that I do indeed work for, will give me a more detailed overview of the job that I am
currently doing. By understanding more about the company you re involved will hopefully keep me
motivated and improve my work leading to a happier time whilst I am working (Gelles 2013 p.37). As

  • 2. A Journal Of The Plague Year, By Daniel Defoe H.F. s Curiosity and Desire A Journal of the Plague Year was written by Daniel Defoe, and published in 1722. This book is a novel in form of a journal that recreates the plague in London in 1665. In this novel, the author gives life to the main character and narrator H.F., which after having the option of leaving town to avoid getting sick, decides to stay because he thought and believed God was sending him the message, through a bible passage, that he should stay in London and he would be safe. When the plague took place, Daniel Defoe was around five years old, for that reason we know that he was not present at the moment of the plague in London. Still, there s the false frame. The story isn t really being told by H. F., it s being told by Defoe. That s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But at the end, the detailed scenes H. F. describes are his observations, not his experiences (Kelly 55). So, by being more of a witness than a victim of the plague, he brings a lot of details to the story, which is his way of persuading his audience, by the use of Logos. For example, As near as I may judge, it was about 40 foot in length, and about 15 or 16 foot broad; and at the time I first looked at it, about nine foot deep (Defoe 2302). For some authors like Juengel, the excessive amount of details into the story goes more towards eccentric and macabre But, What does the plague mean? ... Literature has reflected the tendency to make plague a vehicle for allegory, and the interpretive bent is usually religious: plague is the punishment of a sinful people by an angry god (Stephanson 225). I think that H.F. agreed with this definition, or at least he believed that God had a purpose for this plague. From the beginning of the story, H.F. shows us that he believes in God and in God s messages, just like when he thought that God had a purpose or a mission for him to stay in ... • 3. Entrepreneur Interview INTRODUCTION Richard Branson, an English business tycoon and the founder of Virgin Airlines once said, Business opportunities are like buses, there s always another one coming. This quote signifies that there are always an opportunity in entrepreneurship in life if there is a will to take the risk and motivated to do so. Entrepreneurship roots from the word entrepreneur, which according to www.wikipedia.com, it can be defined as one who undertakes innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic goods. Entrepreneurs are risk takers, willing to roll the dice with their money or reputation on the line in support of an idea or enterprise. They willingly assume responsibility for the success or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The process may take between three weeks and one month for one piece. Added to the problem, there are also other factors that contributed to the company s lost, including the company s financial crisis and Malaysian economic uncertainty. • 4. NLRPCHT Case Study NLRPNACHT 3D models showed a typical structural fold and conserved ATP binding motifs Domain analysis revealed that all the NLRP proteins (excluding NLRP10) comprised of three functional domains; N terminal PYD, central NACHT and variable numbers of C terminal LRRs. NLRP1 has two additional domains, FIIND and CARD towards the C terminal region (next to LRR), whereas NLRP10 lacks the LRR (Fig. 1a; Supplementary Table. S1). Consistent with recently resolved structures [mNlrc4 (4KXF) and OcNOD2 (5IRL)], and sequence analysis results, we outlined three functional sub domains of NACHT/NOD modules; (a) the nucleotide binding domain (NDB) positioned after Pyrin domain (PYD), (b) the helical domain 1 (HD1) and (c) the winged helix domain (WHD) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... S3) were considered for further studies (Fig. S1a). A close visual inspection of docked conformations showed a conserved ATP binding pattern except for NLRP5, NLRP8, and NLRP9. Till date, only two ADP bound NLR structures have been resolved experimentally [mNlrc4 (4KXF) and OcNOD2 (5IRN)] and both the structures shared a common nucleotide binding orientation28, 29. Therefore, we adopted the manual approach of docking; where the γ phosphate group of ATP was deeply buried inside the cavity, and adenine moiety was positioned outward (Fig. S1b). To understand the binding mode and dynamic stability of ATP, MD simulations of both the prepared ATP bound NLRPNACHT complexes [complex I (AutoDock) and complex II (manually docked)] were performed for 60ns time scale. Manually docked NLRPNACHT ATP complexes exhibited a good binding stability The experimental evidence suggested that Walker A (GxxxxGK[S/T]) of AAA+ ATPase proteins has the major contribution in nucleotide binding and particularly, it coordinates the β/γ phosphate group of NTPs28 37. To acquire a stable NLRPNACHT ATP complex for interaction analysis, a combined root mean square deviation (RMSD) of Walker A and ATP was calculated, and the result indicated a stable array of deviation in manually docked systems except in NLRP13 (Fig. 2a). Further, we analyzed the total numbers of intermolecular H bonds between ATP and NLRPNACHT from the obtained trajectories as the function of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Racial Politics And The Race Cycle Model Essay It has been centuries since slavery ended across Latin America and the United States, yet racial issues continue to plague these countries. Since manumission, the concept of race has evolved through the meaning societies have given it. While the idea of race is merely conceptual it has significant social and political effects. More specifically, through racial politics, these countries have been able to incorporate race in their agendas and implement racial politics in their laws and policies in such a way that perpetuates racial ideologies. One of the methods used to understand the role of racial politics and its effect on racial ideologies and vice versa is the race cycle model. The purpose of the race cycle model is to demonstrate how racial ideologies are improved, worsened, or maintained, but fails to explain how the cycle can lead to multiple, asymmetrical outcomes as depicted by the racial politics of Haiti and the responses of other Latin American and the United States following the Haitian Revolution. The race cycle model begins with what Sawyer (2006) calls the old equilibrium. This old equilibrium represents the status quo surrounding the racial politics and ideologies in a state. The author seems to jump from one topic to another without a conclusion to the previous topic. He then goes back to the previous topic. This makes it a bit challenging to keep track of the story. He began the novel from the past. He talked about the war. As one may expect, he does not have a positive thing to say about the war. He kept mentioning the losses of lives and other tragedies. Immediately after that, the author will, at least for a moment lighten up the mood and express his love for Phuong, who was his best friend and love interest. Of course, he is retelling the good times they had together. The novel appears to be written after the conclusion of the Vietnam war. This can be said because, the author talks about the end of the war. The scenes in the novel are from Vietnam. Post war Vietnam was a struggle for the author as it looks like a struggle for anyone who has served in a combat anywhere and came back to a civilian life. For the author, the post war Vietnam, is a beginning of a new life, although he was born and lived his entire life there. He has lost Phuong. The light shut off, which indicated to the operators that the valve had been opened and reclosed, however the valve did not reclose (Wikipedia). The PORV remained open and was releasing a combination of coolant and radioactive material. As coolant water was released, no instrument indicated this to the operators; the operators had only been trained to estimate the amount of water in the reactor by doing calculations based upon pressure readings. These pressure readings were now skewed and thus the calculations were wrong and based upon these wrong calculations, the operators stopped the flow of cooling water to the reactor. The lack of water caused overheating within the reactor and according to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission s findings, about half of the reactor s core melted. Operators had no way of knowing this and also were not trained to handle such an event. Unlike the event at Chernobyl, the reactor stayed intact and massive amounts of radiation were not leaked into the surrounding area. This containment, led nuclear engineer, Jack Herbein to announce publically that the citizens of Harrisburg were in no danger. These original questions, Who is Israel, Who is Jesus, and Who is the church, demonstrate a synchronistic relationship with each other. Augustine, with Jesus as its head and us as the body, shows an intimacy between the Head and the body leading us to mystical union with Christ. Continuing, Augustine insists not only will Christ make us one in Him, but one person, and that the church s structure reflects not a series of individuals but a unity speaking as one. St Gregory demonstrates this in his expositions on the Psalms, Psalm 60, The psalm, he says, speaks as though one single person is praying. But it is not a lone individual; it is a unity speaking as one. In Christ, He molds us into one person whose head is in heaven and whose limbs are toiling on earth. Gregory the Great echoes Augustine s usage of the word person in the same way. He says, Our redeemer has shown himself to be one person with the holy Church, whom he has taken to himself. • 10. Taking a Look at Filibusters Filibusters are quite the conundrum, a pariah of sorts in the realm of U.S. politics, yet an integral part of our body of government. It is imperative that it remains to be kept alive in a warm embrace with the Senate, lest it is reduced to nothing more than a mere accessory to the House of Representatives. By nature, the filibuster is actually a resourceful tactic that utilizes the ideology of free speech to prolong and create an active dialog over legislation or to prevent a measure from being brought to a vote. However, in recent years the most unsettling adversity contemporary legislation faces is Rule XXII of the U.S. Senate. Forty one senators can veto the lion s share of legislation by refusal of invoking cloture (sixty being the magic number). Due to the malapportionment of the Senate, less than forty one percent of the population could be over represented, resulting in a conflicting vote against cloture sustaining debate indefinitely. The idea of a three fifths vote is being required for most Senate action can be seen as a modern day thunderstorm that overcasts democratic self government. The tradition of limitless debate in the Senate needs a bit of a review (perhaps a judicial one), as a refusal to vote for cloture should result in a suspension rather than an absolute veto. Simply put, forty one senators should have the ability to place an extended debate on bills or nominations for a period not to exceed a year beginning from the time they reach the floor. ... Tactical crime analysis information is usually kept internal and produced on a daily basis(Wyckoff, 2014). Moreover, tactical crime analysis aids in the development of patrol and investigation practices along with deployment of resources(Wyckoff, 2014). Most of the data used for tactical crime analysis devises from police reports(Wyckoff, 2014). Some examples of tactical crime analysis are repeated incident analysis, crime pattern analysis, and linking known offenders to prior crimes(Wyckoff, 2014). Another type of crime analysis is strategic which data is analyzed for the purpose of creating and evaluating of long term strategies, policies, and prevention techniques(Wyckoff, 2014). Strategic crime analysis is usually conducted slowly and at a deliberate pace(Wyckoff, 2014). The process of strategic crime analysis begins with police reports by is heavily influenced by outside sources of information which can be produced by quantitative or qualitative methods(Wyckoff, 2014). Some examples of strategic crime analysis are trend analysis, hot spot analysis, and problem analysis(Wyckoff, 2014). Lastly, there is administrative crime analysis which deals with management needs(Wyckoff, 2014). Therefore, examination of tick and mouse distributions across the region should be performed independently. Nonetheless, disease models predicting zoonotic disease emergence that engage a multi species approach will produce more accurate risk projections (Estrada Pena et al. 2014) and so our efforts to model B. burgdorferi emergence simultaneously incorporated both the black legged ticks and the white footed mouse. In addition to host vector pathogen interactions our model also incorporated climate and landscape based parameters. Don Quixote s obsession with his books leads him to the point where he loses his mind and finds an escape in the fictional chivalry. Don Quixote shows participatory responses in the following scenes where he re plots the ordinary events to fit his fictional adventures. For example, he fights with windmills while seeing them as giants. When Sancho tells him that they are windmills, Don Quixote persuades him that it is enchanter who turned them into the mills. Yet, as I became more knowledgeable and wise, I gave up meat and haven t eaten it in ten years. The reason I did so was simply because I believe in the sanctity and integrity of all life forms. The second yama is Satya, whose translation from Sanskrit is truthfulness. It requires one to respect the truth in thinking, action, and speech. Satya is a very large concept. It means that you should not say something that you know is false. It also means that you should not lead others into error by making them believe that you know something when you only presume. Saying the truth is extremely difficult, for, before telling the truth you must know it through personal experimentation; you must discover the truth about yourself and release false pretenses. The way I live truthfulness in my heart is to be truthful to myself and to my heart. I need to do that before I can open up the truth to everyone else. One of the ways in which I practice truthfulness to myself is by knowing and respecting my abilities and limitations. For example, I am very aware of my knowledge of other subjects. In some subjects such as math and physics I excel, however, in others, such as politics or history, I am not as capable as other people. So, when discussions of subjects in which I am not so competent come up, I don t pretend to act knowledgeable or well versed in that subject. Instead of being fake and inferior, I try to ... Before getting back up after you fall you have to gather all your strength and push whatever made you fall harder.Every time you fall the same solution might not work so you have to be stubborn and keep an attitude that tells your challenger Try your best shot, and that if you fall you won t be gone for long.People overcome obstacles in less than three ways the three ways are by keeping a positive attitude, being determined, and lastly being a creative problem solver. First,in ways, people overcome obstacles is keeping a positive attitude since when you have a positive attitude you are harder to discourage. An example of positive attitude while facing adversity would be in the text A work in progress where Aimee Mullin faces her adversity with humor like when she broke her wooden leg and while all the other people in that room were freaking out all she could think about was that her parents were going to kill her.I chose this example because out of all the stories we read in class about facing adversity Aimee Mullin struck me as the most positive about her obstacle. It s important because it shows my point that with a positive attitude you don t get discouraged as easily and like Aimee Mullin you can achieve whatever you wish no matter your adversity.Another example from A work in progress that shows positive attitude would be when Aimee Mullin got her new legs and was stating all the good qualities about her legs instead of being like oh I don t this about them or ... • 28. The Raft Of Flowers By Robert Frost In his poem The Tuft of Flowers, Robert Frost tells the story of a lonely man who is turning grass in a field after a mower has cut it down. Though the man at first believes he is completely alone and that all other people are too, he later reevaluates that position, concluding the opposite that connections exist between everyone and everything and that nobody is ever alone. Frost argues that one is never truly alone as all people are connected to each other. Initially, the speaker in the poem feels lonely and unconnected to the world around him, I must be, as he had been, alone, (ln 8). Frost s use of punctuation is especially interesting in this phrase as he uses a comma immediately before an em dash, enormously exaggerating the pause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frost s use of personification in this line is overwhelming, calling attention to the speaker s newly awakened sense of closeness with other people. The speaker, overjoyed to see the tuft of flowers amidst the destruction of the rest of the field, realizes that the mower must have also seen the beauty of the flowers, noting, The mower in the dew had loved them thus,/By leaving them to flourish, not for us (ln 27 28). The speaker understands that the mower had left the flowers for purely selfish reasons, but at the same time, he feels connected to the mower on the basis that they had both recognized and admired the beauty of the flowers. This revelation leads him to conclude that people are connected to each other in both obvious and subtle ways, calling the mower a spirit kindred to my own (ln. 35). Interestingly, lines 9 and 10 are juxtaposed with the last two lines of the poem: Men work together, I told him from the heart,/ Whether they work together or apart (ln 41 42). Not only does the speaker contradict his earlier statement, but Frost also mirrors the wording, the two sentences appearing nearly identical, in order to create a visual representation of the meaning of his words: people are more alike than they are different and therefore bonds exist between all people. Frost also structures the poem in such a way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Informality was also standard in company correspondence. Welch faxed handwritten notes to anyone in the company who he felt deserved personal communication, whether to motivate, correct, or congratulate. This exercise not only gave specific and ongoing feedback to employees but was a chance for Welch to reflect on the businesses that each employee was leading. The atmosphere of informality was perhaps most critical among GE s top leadership, where the confidence that came from being in familiar company encouraged executives to openly praise or criticize each other. Welch consistently forced executives to bicker in meetings, the idea being to force management to know their businesses, processes, and issues thoroughly before engaging in discussion with the boss. Under such conditions Welch could determine a manager s level of dedication or passion for a plan or policy by noting the extent to which he was willing to argue.
