Whole Foods Market
(i) Environmental Analysis External Opportunities and Threats
The demographic, economic and the socio cultural segments would be the most relevant segments to Whole Foods
Market. These segments have a direct impact on the profitability, sustainability and survivability of Whole Foods
Market, and the organic food industry. The relevance of the demographic segment stems from the fact that the age
structure, income distribution and population size are important factors which will influence the demand for organic
products. The economic segment is relevant, as an affluent population will continue to drive and sustain demand for
organic products. The socio cultural segment is another relevant segment, where attitudes about quality of life, ... Show

Given that the organic foods industry is a rapidly flourishing one with a huge potential for profits, this would be an
attractive industry to compete in. The high entry barriers, lack of substitute products and the huge pool of potential
consumers will certainly mean an immense potential of opportunities in an industry that has just started to grow. Whole
Foods Markets is in an excellent position to capture these opportunities and this will be explained below.
(iv) Responses to Wal Mart s foray into the organic foods industry
Focus strategy on market penetration, using existing stores situated in prime locations
Whole Foods Markets has been able to reach out to its target markets through the prime geographical locations of its
stores. By further leveraging on these locations through the offering of more customized organic products, Whole Foods
will be able to penetrate the market deeper. Given that fact that it has established the Whole Foods Brand in affluent
communities, it will be in a better position than Wal mart to widen its target market and to reach out to potential
customers.
Increasing brand awareness, appeal and loyalty though a more aggressive advertising and public relations campaign
By increasing brand awareness and image, the reputation of Whole Foods will be enhanced. This would be critical in
reaching out to potential customers, as well as retaining current customers. As mentioned in the case, Whole Foods does

Exploring How the British Could Have Achieved Victory in...
An Investigation into How the British could have achieved victory in the American War of Independence
The American War of Independence was perhaps the first colonial war of independence during the period of European
dominance across the globe. Great Britain, a relatively new country with a stable, democratic government, established
an enormous trading empire which stretched from North America to East India and was the greatest superpower on
Earth. It came to be so, firstly by its highly effective navy which allowed it to transport goods and defeat other rival
fleets. Its government of elected officials allowed it to function more effectively compared to an Absolute Monarchy in
terms of generating revenue from its colonies, and finally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is believed she gave word to Paul Revere that the British were planning on destroying the armouries at Lexington and
Concord and thus he spread the famous line of The British are coming! Many British Generals serving throughout the
French Indian War began to sympathize with the colonists who fought alongside the British. This meant that many of the
experienced and greatest of British Generals, including Gage himself, did not believe that war was the right option and
did not believe in the British cause. So to prevent the catastrophes that Gage caused during the first months of the War,
the British should have given the position to a General who was both capable but also sensible. Historians believe that if
General Charles Cornwallis had of served in his stead then the early British disasters could have been avoided and the
colonists would have been crushed in the first few months. Cornwallis was a competent commander, but when he
inherited his Lordship, he often voted against heavy taxation of the colonies. Many blame him for the British defeat of
the War because of his surrender at Yorktown but with his intervention at an earlier date, such a competent commander
could have increased the odds of the British winning the war.
The British Army was a well trained but in no way was it battle hardened . Being an island nation, Britain predominantly
used its navy as its main weapon and the regular army for sea to land assaults e.g. assault on

Chipotle Mexican Grill Research Paper
Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG)
If you are like the majority of all other Americans, chances are that you have once found yourself waiting in the long,
corner wrapping line at Chipotle. Even if you are not one of those people, then you still probably know of this fast food
restaurant and its popular reputation, both good and bad. The description of this company, provided by NASDAQ, states,
Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., a Delaware corporation, together with its subsidiaries ( Chipotle , the Company , or we )
operates Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants, which serve a focused menu of burritos, tacos, burrito bowls (a burrito
without the tortilla) and salads, made using fresh ingredients. As of December 31, 2016, we operated 2,198 Chipotle

Chipotle Mexican Grill has been trying to recover from their e Coli outbreak in 2015 and planned on finally escaping the
decline in 2017. They planned on doing this by regaining the trust of customers (Lahart, Justin). Things were looking up
for the company as sales were up by 17% and their profits increased by more than double. However, things have not
gone as the company planned this year, and now the company has begun to once again decline. Although the recent
Hurricanes Irma and Harvey have not caused a large impact on the economy as a whole, they have caused a major
decline in Chipotle s earnings in the recent third quarter, as 425 of their locations were in the path of either of the storms
(Wiener Bronner, Danielle). Another negative factor that is affecting the company is skyrocketing prices of avocados.
The price of the fruit is up by 125% since January. Two reasons behind this would be an unsatisfactory harvest and an
increasingly high demand for avocados. One more factor behind the company s plummeting stock is a data security hack
that allowed credit card information to be pilfered from customers in April 2017 (Gillespie,

Why I Should Not Get Better Grades
I have a grown up surrounded by the bookkeeping, accounting, and tax preparation professions, as my father has held
his CPA for nearly 40 years and my parents operate two successful income tax preparation offices. While in college, I
eventually chose to complete a degree in finance, wanting to branch away from accounting while still being able to take
advantage of the knowledge gained from my upbringing. However, after having experienced multiple professions, my
current employment as a contractor in Chesapeake Energy s accounting department has inspired me to pursue furthering
my education.
As you ll see in from my transcripts, my undergraduate grades were not consistently stellar with my average GPA being
under a 3.0. While I did support myself through college with full time employment, I do believe that I should have been
able to earn better grades more consistently while completing my undergraduate degree. My impression of that time in
my life was that I lacked the ability to manage my time and I wasn t able to focus on multiple goals. After starting a
career in real estate, I began to regret the lack of focus that I had while completing my degree. I wanted to prove to
myself that I could manage my time wisely and do well in my career while furthering my education so, nearly two years
after completing my bachelor s degree; I enrolled into an online master s in finance degree with Kaplan University.
While working 45 50 hours a week as a mortgage underwriter, I

Symbolism In Citizen Kane
In Citizen Kane, a wealthy newspaper tycoon named Charles Foster Kane dies a solitary death in his sprawling estate
Xanadu. In an attempt to discover just who this legendary yet private individual was, a journalist named Jerry Thompson
is tasked with discovering the meaning behind his final words: Rosebud. Although Thompson interviews many of the
people who the public considered close to Kane including friends, ex lovers, and the memoirs of his childhood guardian,
he never truly discovers what he was tasked in finding out. In never discovering the meaning of Rosebud, Thompson
concludes that you cannot sum up the life of a man with just a single word, saying the meaning of Rosebud was just a
missing piece in a jigsaw puzzle. Throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conflicting memories of those close to Kane help the spectator understand why Kane was so lonely. Kane s desire
for companionship is represented in the film by the presence of statues. The people he tried to get close to always left
him, even his ex wife for whom he built the monstrous Xanadu. Kane buys so many statues in his desperation, because
they appear human yet cannot leave. These statutes serve as a motif signifying Kane s loneliness and how he attempted
to use his money to get people to stay in his life. In the closing moments of the film, vast rooms brimming with boxes
full of junk, many of which remain unopened, intermingle with statues and help convey just how far Kane s obsession
went, and how unfulfilled his life was. A large portion of Kane s issues stemmed from how he was separated from his
parents in his youth. First seen innocently playing in the snow during the memoirs of Thatcher, his world is turned
upside down with the revelation that he is leaving his old life behind to become educated under the guidance of his new
guardian. The sled he is playing with and the setting in which he was playing become a turning point in his life. At the
end of the film, burning in a furnace with the rest of Kane s possessions, Rosebud is shown to be the sled that Kane was
using during that snowy day when his life was changed forever. Rosebud was the sled that Kane used to try and push

Jacobsen, Kent, Lee, Mather (2011) stated, Since women live longer than men in the United States, women will continue
to make up a majority of the older population in the foreseeable future (pg. 3). Whereas, this age distribution among men
and women are expected to remain approximately the same between 2009 and 2030, there will be notable changes in the
age and gender gap by 2050 as the gap grows smaller (Jacobsen, Kent, Lee, Mather, 2011). Furthermore, according to
Vincent Velkoff (2010), by the year 2042 the United States will become more racially and ethnically diverse with the
combined minority population expected to become the majority. Thus, as people in the United States age over the next
several decades, the older population will also become a more racially and ethnically diverse group. In addition, the
overall age structure of the population is expected to change a great deal over the next four decades (Vincent Velkoff,
2010). This will pose even more challenges to policy makers and programs designed to help the elderly like Medicare
and Social Security. Therefore, being able to project the size and structure of the older population, in regards to age, sex,
race, and Hispanic origin is not only important to public interest, but also private both socially and economically

The Education System Of Ethiopia
Pastoralist Education in Ethiopia Currently:
For several years, donors have been implementing Alternative Basic Education Center s in Ethiopia as a way to
supplement the formal primary education system in the country. Currently the country faces a number of challenges in
regards to their formal primary school system including lack of infrastructure, lack of teachers and economical
constraints. Many regions in Ethiopia are hard to reach and the provision of formal education is lacking. To supplement
this lack of formal primary schools, donors, together with governments have implemented Alternative Basic Education
Center s. These centers are set up differently than formal school as it covers the curriculum of lower primary school,
which is traditionally 4 years, and fits it all into 3 years. Upon completion of these 3 years, it is expected that students
will be prepared to move into upper primary school (grades 5 8). This set up alleviates the problem of a lack of primary
schools, and by completing the curriculum in 3 years, it allows those children who started late to catch up. (CARE
Interview)
Save the Children Denmark s Alternative Basic Education Project was implemented in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia.
While this is not a pastoralist region, it provided Save the Children and the Ethiopian government many insights to non
formal education models and many organizations began implementing Alternative Basic Education Center s in the Afar
and Somali regions following this

Summary Of Stuffed And Starved By Raj Patel
Reading Summary/Discussion Questions #4 This week we started reading a new book called Stuffed Starved by Raj
Patel and were to read the first three chapters. Patel is different in his writing compared to Pollan because he is more
emotional and forceful in his statements. He has worked for the World Bank, WTO, and the UN, so his social position
makes him someone others would want to listen to. Unlike Pollan, Patel goes outside of the United States and takes a
global perspective in his writing. Patel talks in the preface about how many more people are undernourished and
overweight and he explains that the food system he describes in his book has been engineered to continue to increase
hunger and obesity. It is surprising to me to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like consumers, farmers do not have much choice either. Farmers plant crops that are demanded by the global food
market. Essentially, farms are no longer owned by farmers and the farmers become the laborers. Also, it sometimes is all
or nothing for farmers. For one, some land can only be used for one crop, for example coffee, and if something goes
wrong with the crop, farmers lose everything. Second, unskilled labor jobs are dwindling, so there might not be much
else a farmer could do if something were to happen to their land. It seems that when crops do well, farmers should be
making a lot of money, however, the food processors and distributors are the ones who make most of the profit. Because
of this, farmers are left with pennies compared to what the others make. Farmers and consumers have fought to control
the food system, but what other choice do they have than to support it? The second section to be reviewed is chapter
two. This chapter was devastating because it talked about the poverty that farmers face and the suicides that result
because of it. Farmers cannot bare to see their families struggle or lose their farm that has been in the family for
generations and, frequently, they use highly toxic pesticides used on their farms to commit suicide. Not only do these
happen in poor developing countries, but also in wealthy, developed countries such as Australia and the United States.

Mediterranean Diet Research Paper
The Mediterranean diet is a selection of food choices based off the typical cultural diets of countries surrounding the
Mediterranean Sea. This diet is often touted by dieticians and healthcare professionals as a dietary method for improving
cardiovascular health. The main nutritional focuses of the diet are high intake of unsaturated fats, high intake of fiber,
low intake of saturated fats, and low intake of sodium. Food choices should be centered around fresh vegetables, fruits,
nuts, legumes, whole grains, seafood, and plant based oils, in addition reducing consumption of red meat and solid fats.

A study by Vafeiadou et al. (2015), showed that dietary replacement of saturated fats (SFAs) by unsaturated fats did not
improve cardiovascular function, but did result in beneficial effects on cardiovascular biomarkers. In this randomized,
controlled, single bind study 195 men and women at moderate risk for cardiovascular disease, were randomly assigned
to a 16 week isoenergetic diet that were either rich in SFAs, MUFAs, or polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). The
primary cardiovascular measurement of function was flow mediated dilation, and secondary measurements were blood
pressure, arterial stiffness, and serum levels of various biomarkers (lipids, glucose, insulin resistance). The results of this
study showed that replacing a SFA diet with those of MUFAs or PUFAs did not significantly change flow mediated
dilation, or arterial stiffness, a process which probably occurs at a rate much slower than the scope of this study. There
was a significant decrease in recorded blood pressure of the MUFA and PUFA diet groups, compared to the increase in
blood pressure of the SFA diet group. Other biomarkers such as total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and the total
cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio improved significantly in the MUFAs and PUFAs diet replacement compared to that
of the SFA diet

Western Civilization
Civilization: The West and the Rest
Niall Ferguson s thesis in his book Civilization: The West and the Rest, is to explain and prove why western civilization
has exceeded the accomplishments of other nations throughout history up until present day. He attributes this world
dominance to six killer applications the west had adopted and advanced beyond the means of any other civilizations.
These applications were: competition, science, private property, medicine, consumption, and work.
When explaining competition, most of Ferguson s sources come from the comparisons between Europe and China.
China, during the Ming period was an extremely stable and unified empire, and saw very little competition. Additionally,
their technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fall of the Ottomans is followed by Ferguson talking about Prussia, who quickly gained power from good leadership
and powerful scientific minds. This also prompted the reversal of Turkey, had been steadily decline. Ferguson talks
about Kemal Ataturk began to adopt features of western civilization, which included creating a more sensible alphabet.
Ferguson s belief was that the Ottoman Empire had to embrace both the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment if it
was to be credible as a great power, and that without science any country could become subordinate to a more advanced
nation (ch. 2).
The theme switches from Europe in the third chapter to North and South America. It highlights how the British
distributed land within their North American colonies to almost everyone and encouraged fair and equal self governing.
On the other hand, the Spanish kept a system in which all property was owned by the wealthy and had very little
distribution between the rest. Even though there were vast differences between North and South America, Ferguson
believed that the main reason the North was successful was the democracy they established based on laws for the
individual. These laws allowed for the sanctity of individual freedom and the security of private property rights, ensured
by representative, constitutional government. (ch. 3) Almost everyone in North America could be substantial

Essay On Eucharist And Eschatology
The Lord s Supper, or the Eucharist, is a representative meal of the Gospel; bread and wine represent the human body of
Jesus sent by the Father to be broken for our iniquities so that we may have everlasting life through the Spirit. In this
respect, it is easy to see how the Eucharist and eschatology are related, for the sacrifice of Jesus gives believers hope for
their future. However, there are many intricate connections between the two doctrines that the Church and believers fail
to recognize. In her article Eucharist Eschatology , Martha Moore Keish explains that it is easy to recognize how the
Eucharist is reflective of the past and influences the present, but it hardly makes claims about the future. Similarly,
eschatology makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, eschatology is best understood when it considers Good Friday, for without His death, Christians have no
reason to hope for the renewal of creation. However, this renewal does not come without judgment, a prominent tension
point when discussing eschatology. Thus, Moore Keish argues that in light of the Eucharist, this tension can be resolved.
The Eucharist, she explains, serves as a reminder that the Judge is also the Redeemer , yet it is important to remember
that judgment has already come when Jesus bears the sins of the world (122). For Christians, judgment is the past and
future, and it motivates present actions that are honoring and God fearing.
The doctrines of the Eucharist and eschatology are best understood in the context of each other, yet Moore Keish
continues, arguing that the unification of the doctrines unites the body of believers. In partaking in the communal
sacrament, believers get a taste of the eschatological feast of the Lamb when they will all be seated at the table of the
King (116). Therefore, communion is more an act within community than a display of one s own salvation. The breaking
of the bread and pouring of the wine is an act in which the disciples partook. When the Church performs the Eucharist,
they are joining with the body of believers past and present in the remembrance of Good Friday while yearning for the
day all believers will be gathered around the Lord s table.
One of Moore Keish s central claims

Fear The Walking Dead Persuasive Essay
This past Sunday, AMC graced us with the premier of Fear the Walking Dead, a spin off of the amazing, The Walking
Dead TV series. While I am not a huge fan of spin offs in general, I must say that I was impressed.
The following may contain spoilers, so if you haven t had the chance to see the premier, I would highly recommend
doing so before reading further.
So why should you watch Fear the Walking Dead? Because I said you should! And the fact that the first episode will

So where does Fear the Walking Dead fit into The Walking Dead universe? Well that s easy, it takes place prior to the
events of The Walking Dead, and on the west coast. More or less the beginning of zombie infection.

junkie, witnesses the girl he was with, eating someones face off. I could be wrong. Throughout the episode, we get to
learn about Nick s somewhat dysfunctional family and hints of the zombie apocalypse starting to unfold. There are also
hints that the drug that Nick has been using, is causing people to become zombies. Of course, nobody understands what
is going on yet, not even Nick. Everything starts to be put in perspective when Nick s drug dealer, Calvin, attempts to

father, Travis, Nick finds that Calvins body is missing, at least until they try to

Follow The Drinking Gourd Analysis
Follow the Drinking Gourd by H. B. Parks is one of the hundreds of slave spirituals. Slaves worked long and demanding
hours, faced physical punishments, lived in a crude one room log cabin with few furnishings, wear shabby clothing,
were highly susceptible to deadly diseases, and eat a diet with limited fresh foods (Nash 2017, 239). Their lives were
burdensome. To help cope with and make sense of their lives slaves came together to form a community with its own
culture distinct from that of their masters. A key element of this culture was spirituals. Spirituals not only helped slaves

Environmental Justice Essay
The United States Environmental Protection Act (hereinafter referred to as EPA) defines environmental justice as the fair
treatment and meaningful involvement of all people, regardless of race, colour, national origin or income with respect to
the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies (Bullard 2005, 4).
Throughout the world, poor people and people of colour, who have the least political power and who are the most
marginalized, are selectively victimized by environmental crises (Bullard 2005, 6). Numerous environmental groups

However, the EPA was never designed to address environmental policies that result in unfair, unjust and inequitable
outcomes. Officials of the EPA are not likely to ask questions that go to the heart of environmental justice such as what
groups are most affected by a specific environmental problem or why are they affected or how could the problem have
been prevented ? (Bullard 2005, 29).
The environmental justice framework was adopted on September 27th, 1991 following the First National People of
Colour Environmental Leadership Summit (Bullard 2005, 21). This seventeen principle framework was extremely
important at the time it was drawn up because it served as a catalyst for bringing environmental protection issues to the
core. The framework attempts to turn the dominant environmental protection paradigm on its head by seeking to prevent
environmental threats before they occur. (Bullard 2005, 5). It incorporates the aims of other social movements that seek
to eliminate harmful practices in houses, health care, poverty and redlining especially for those living in an urban ghetto
or barrio (Bullard 2005, 25). Bullard states that the framework attempts to uncover the underlying assumptions that may
contribute to and produce unequal protection (Bullard 2005, 25). One of its major principles is that all individuals have a
right to be protected from environmental degradation and some of the precedents for

Pros And Cons Of Globalization In Chindia
Is Chindia a friend or a threat
We have spent a semester studying the effects of globalization on the world and business from currency exchange to
trade policy. Through our discussions and readings, we have learned that globalization is a boon to business as much as
it is a curse. In business, strategic alliance agreements help companies further develop process, foster market expansion
and surpass competitiors. Although they both exist within the context of society, government and business are two
separate entities which share a few features. Governments at even the most basic level exist to protect their citizens
interests and to ensure that their needs are being met. While, business can protect the interests of a group or country,
their primary reason for existence is to turn profits to satiate their shareholders and validate those who work daily to
provide the good/service. However, in order to provide adequately for their citizenry, governments are compelled to
think and act a bit more like businesses to ensure that their citizens remain content. India and China are two examples of
countries which at least in some areas of federal policy are thinking like businesses and as such has formed, Chindia,
what would be called a strategic alliance in business. In 2006, bilateral trade between the two countries reached almost
20 billion dollars and revenue has only increased in recent years (Economist). At first glance it seems that India and
China are nearly equally matched;

Environmental Challenges Of The American Automobile Industry
Environmental Challenges in the American Automobile Industry The American Auto Industry has grown ever since it s
upgraded in the early 1900s. Although the design for the modern car was produced in Germany and France in the late
1800s, Americans controlled the industry in the first half of the twentieth century. Henry Ford innovated mass
production systems that enhanced model, with Ford, General Motors and Chrysler beginning as the Big Three auto firms
by the 1920s ,(Foner Garrity 1991) But this manufacturing has continually been one of the best manufacturing for
environmental concerns and risks around the world, particularly in the United States. Many of the concerns in this
industry include; global race, modern technology for controlling the product, the impacts of emission on the
environment and the government s answer, as well as customer sentiments about the outcome. Much like any
manufacturing, the American auto industry is directed to global competition. As declared beginning, the car was first
developed in Germany and France. In 1995, the United States and Japan made a business contract that supplied more
seller outlets and provided natural replacement part is selling in each other s countries, (Nauss 1995). This makes auto
components and replacement auto pieces for Japanese cars manageable to reach in the United States and vice versa. Not

Analysis Of The Book The Spirit Catches You And You Fall...
The English translation of the Hmong phrase quag dab peg is that the spirit catches you and you fall down. While
western society knows this as epilepsy, the Hmong believe that the seizures are caused by the presence of a dab or soul
stealing spirit, which leads the soul to leave the body.1 The Hmong consider those who suffer from epilepsy to be
respectable and of a higher status. In The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, the doctors and the Hmong are looking
for a solution to the same problem; how to stop Lia Lee s seizures. However, miscommunication between the doctors
and the Lee family worsens Lia s condition. There were disagreements between the family and the doctors on how to
treat Lia, and the appropriate resources to overcome these disagreements were not available. In The Spirit Catches You
and You Fall Down, Anne Fadiman shows how cultural differences and miscommunication between the western doctors
and the Lees leads to the demise of Lia Lee. The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down is only one example of many
that shows how cultural differences affect health. Cultural differences such as variations in beliefs, preferences,
behaviors, recognition of symptoms, and expectations of care because of one s culture, are some factors that influence
decision making and consequently, health outcomes.2 For example, the Hmong s cultural beliefs include respecting the
patient s privacy by not asking personal questions, asking them to undress, or take blood samples,

An Experiment Transpired Because Of A Fascination With...
This experiment transpired because of a fascination with basketball. In inches, the tested variable was the basketball
court surface that gave the basketball the most immense bounce. After testing each surface, the data got averaged out,
and based on the statistics, the multi purpose floor averaged .7 inches more colossal than the hardwood, and 3.7 more
than concrete.
Introduction
Playing basketball can be hard work. Players not only have to run around the court, but just dribbling the basketball
takes some serious effort, too. ( Surface Science: Where Does a Basketball Bounce Best? ). Energy reserved inside the
ball, transfers into Different types of energy (ex. Heat, sound) when the ball hits the ground. But, which type of court
restores the most energy back into the ball? Wood, multi purpose, and concrete are the three types of court surfaces
being experimented on. All professional and collegiate leagues use hardwood court for their basketball games. (Lorelie).
There s logic in why they use them. For example, Wood courts got referred to as one of the softest courts. Concrete
surfaces got researched too. These are the most popular types of surfaces for outdoor basketball courts. In fact, nearly all
who play basketball starts playing on concrete or asphalt court. (Lorelie). This shows, they must be popular for their
spring, and for being compact and durable. Multi purpose floor got researched last, because it s little rarer than the other
floorings. They have a

A Summary Of The Dominicans Controversy
As mentioned above, the first missionaries who arrived in Taiwan were Dominicans. They brought with them a
considerable experience of evangelization, arriving as protagonists of the Chinese Rites Controversy . The Chinese Rites
Controversy erupted in the 17th century and was not resolved until the 20th century, when Pope Pius XII issued an
instruction entitled Plane compertum est, which allowed Chinese Catholics to participate in civil ceremonies honoring
Confucius and the familial dead. By definition, the term Chinese Rites does not refer to any indigenous Chinese ritual,
but to three specific customs. First, periodic ceremonies performed in honor of Confucius, in temples or halls dedicated
to the well respected Chinese philosopher. Second, the veneration of the familial dead, a practice found in every social
class and manifested by various forms of piety including prostration, incense burning, food serving, etc. Third, the
missionary use of the terms Tian (天 heaven) and Shangdi (上帝 lord of heaven) to convey the Christian concept of God.

Franklin High School Sports Narrative
It was finally game day for us freshman. Winter break just finished about two weeks ago and we finally have a home
game. This time it s against Franklin High School. I felt like this game was going to be a good one. I knew I was going
to go off. Going through the school day I had to stay focused and put myself in the right mindset for the upcoming. I
couldn t have any distractions. Looking back, I was probably a little too serious. It was necessary, though, if I wanted to
have a good game. Once school finally ends, I get my basketball stuff and go straight to the locker room to change. I put
my uniform and sneakers on. I was Kobe getting ready for the first game of the 2010 NBA Finals against the Celtics. I
was ready to ball out. After the Raiders and I finish setting up all of the chairs and the table, where the stat keepers and
score keepers sit, I get ready to shoot around before the game. I look around and all I see is an empty court. Just looking
at the court fueled the excitement that I felt for this upcoming game. It was the type of excitement that could only be
satisfied once the game started. As the game drew closer, I could smell Franklin coming ... Show more content on

The Unrealistic Expectations Of I Want A Wife By Judy Brady
In Judy Brady s essay I Want A Wife (1971), she presents the unrealistic expectations of a wife. Brady presents her idea
with repetition of I want a wife.. expectations from the husbands to the wives, over statements and with rhetorical
questions. Brady exaggerates a husband s expectations for the wives in order to persuade the audience to believe wives
are mistreated and overlooked by their husbands. Brady addresses both husbands and wives in her essay by bringing
attention the husbands and the mistreatment of the wives. Additionally, she also brings attention to their wives and the
abuse they re facing. Throughout the majority of Brady s essay she uses repetition of the phrase I want a wife.. . The
phrases all describe the high and unrealistic expectations that a wife must do to make her husband satisfied. Many of the
expectations are similar to those of a caretaker, nurse, and slave. When Brady states When I meet people at school that I
like and want to entertain, I want a wife who will have the house clean, will prepare a special meal, serve it to me and
my friends and not interrupt when I talk about things that interest me and my friends. , it shows that a wife, in this
instance, is much like a slave who obeys the dominant power in the household. Brady s constant repetition of the

Grendel Character Analysis
When first reading through the book it is hard to fully comprehend and understand what the author is using Grendel to
get the reader to understand. Even still there are many parts and pieces of the story and everyone has different thoughts
or theories about it. As the author takes us through Grendel s story it is easy to feel sympathy for such a creature who is
portrayed as a villain due to his stranger appearance. Eventually it is due to how the humans treat him and are frightened
of him that truly pushes him over the edge to becoming the villain they fear him to be. Personally I believe that is the
point of the story to show us how we treat others around us may ultimately lead to harm.
Given that Grendel is originally a villain from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

believing that him to be the villain, truly, perhaps it s simply the author s fault for falling into the every great hero needs
a monster to fight trap, mayhaps it be the circumstance of his birth. However the blame for his descent into violence and
killing humans should also be blamed on the humans themselves who make no effort to attempt to understand or
communicate with him. Maybe it was just the time period the story was set, in but the humans are depicted as violent
and ignorant, worshiping false gods and practicing pointless religions, according to Grendel, but can you truly say
something similar would not happen in this day and age? Grendel would be hunted down, lauded as a monster, a murder,
and an abomination. Taken in by scientists to be dissected and studied. In both times given his monstrous appearance,
Grendel would be unable to live his life to the fullest and his angst in the story reflects that though he desires knowledge
being unable to communicate with the humans and his mother leaves him alone and emotionally stunted. He does not
have an outlet so to speak to pour out his conflicting emotions too and this lets him bottle it up inside and he lacks the
understanding to know what he is feeling and how he should react.

Jewish American Literatue
Jewish American Literature Duty Matters Throughout the course of the semester, the concept of duty has been a major
theme in various novels, such as in Anzia Yezierska s Bread Givers, Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl, and Saul Bellow s
Herzog. Although Yezierska, Ozick, and Bellow offer different circumstances, they all suggest a sense of responsibility
from parent to child. I will show how the relationship between Sara and her father in Bread Givers differ from Rosa and
the living incarnation of her daughter in The Shawl and Herzog s fight to gain custody of his daughter June in Herzog.
They are all significant in understanding the parent child commitment in Jewish American families. According to these
three novels, parents are obligated to their children parents must give emotional support as well as security to them.
According to Norman Soloman s Judaism: A Very Short Introduction, the idea of duty is an act when one is obligated to
carry out as well as a feeling of responsibility. In Judaism, a man s duties are defined by God s commandments. One
must decree to the Torah, the first five books of the Bible as a guide to holiness. The complete theological idea of a man
s role in life is comprised within the notion of mitzvah, which means duty . The term ḥovah, denotating obligation or
duty is also used the same as mitzvah. To complete a divine commandment is to satisfy one s duty. In these three novels,
duty is the chief reason for the actions of these characters.

Jones wants to enforce a set of strict guidelines that students will follow inside including that they keep quiet and set

But not everyone is a fan of taking a nap at school. I don t feel comfortable sleeping anywhere except in my bed, says

Childhood Memories And Its Effects On Our Lives
We each have memories, both from long ago and recent times, that we hold dear to us. Memories get us through the hard

1. Trace the history of relocation and Indian reservations. In what ways did reservations destroy Native American
cultures, and in what ways did reservations foster tribal identities? Be sure to account for patterns of change and
consistency over time. When one hears the word relocation , I assume, they think of taking one thing exactly as it was
and placing it in a different location, but placing it as it was and with the same resources. Relocation is a loaded term
because before the word relocation came about settlers of early America were forcefully pushing native peoples off their

The whole point of the meeting was to come to an agreement over disputes of land claims between colonies and Indian
nations including the Iroquois. Though, through trickery, the Iroquois had ceded to the colonies land from sea to sea
.2(p. 187) This meant land from the Ohio Valley all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Needless to say the Indians involved
were disappointed and angered. The Royal Proclamation was the next advancement in the idea of relocation. The Royal
Proclamation, made by the British, was an intangible line drawn to separate Indian lands from colonial lands. This was
made to please the Indians, but also served as a way to contain and control its own peoples within the colonies. I point
this out as a step towards relocation because, one of the first steps is: knowing where something can be moved from and
then moved to. When a solid border is made of land that is known, by all parties involved, of whose is whose, then half
of the process is accomplished. I mean by this: if the party, not yet aware of possibly being moved again, they will not
try to occupy what the other party has defined as their lands because there is the belief that the same will be reciprocated
from the latter party. Therefore, not as much attention is needed by the British to defend the land that is understood to be
in possession of the British, and more

The impact religion had on the Chesapeake region is minimal, however when compared to the overwhelming effect it
had in New England. The New England region included the colonies of New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts Bay,

most prominent in the Massachusetts Bay, Plymouth, and Connecticut colonies. The colony of Rhode Island was formed
when Roger Williams was expelled for radical ideas. He found the Church of England to be corrupt and stressed the
importance of religious tolerance while creating one of the first Baptist churches. Later Anne Hutchinson, another
colonist expelled for radical and dangerous ideas, founded Portsmouth which stressed the importance of faith, not deeds.
Eventually Williams joined the colonies to form Rhode Island. New England became a fortress of congregationalism
which developed community religion and further strengthened the Puritan church. The church, though wholly religious,
still faced issues preserving orthodoxy without compromising the rights of the congregation, but they were hesitant to

Conflicts can be divided into different categories; Interpersonal, Man vs. Society, Man vs. Nature, Intrapersonal,
Between characters and Character vs. Self. What conflict/s can be found in your novel? Are they interesting? Why/why
not?
The conflict in The Da Vinci Code is a long standing war between two groups that includes many people. The Priory of
Sion and Opus Dei are in war over the Holy Grail. The war started thousands of years ago. Opus Dei could be described
as the church mafia and they are determined to find the Holy Grail and destroy the Holy Grail to cover up their tracks.
The Priory of Sion is in possession of the Holy Grail which gives them power over the church. This conflict expands and
involves more people. Both Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu are not members of any of the group but they are still
the core of the conflict.
More conflicts builds up during the book but every conflict is related to the main conflict. For example the police tries to
make Robert Langdon incriminate himself, this is because they want to find the Holy Grail. Every conflict circles back
to Opus Dei and the church trying to destroy the Priory of Sion. The conflict is interesting and includes much

Inappropriate Hyponatremia Essay
EUVOLEMIC HYPONATREMIA: MECHANISM SYNDROME OF INAPPROPRIATE ANTIDIURETIC
HORMONE SECRETION [5,13] SIADH is the most common cause of hyponatremia [13]. It is caused by inappropriate
vasopressin secretion either from the pituitary or from the ectopic source independent of the circulatory volume status
and serum osmolality resulting in hyponatremia. Also there occurs inappropriate diuresis due to the action of vasopressin
in the collecting tubules and its action continues until V2 receptors are down regulated (vasopressin escape) [5]. There
are multiple etiological factors as mentioned earlier cause inappropriate ADH secretion. A Schwartz criterion is used for

Morgan s Imagined Communities
1.
Imagined communities, according to Anderson, are a form of speech communities created by the mass production of
shared media. They are imagined because members will never meet all other members face to face. The Morgan piece
on speech communities begins by describing a music video, which itself begins with two rappers speaking on the phone
in different languages in different countries. After a conversation, the two meet up in person and begin the song. Morgan
describes this as a speech community formed around a shared style of music, with members of the community belonging
to various demographics. This would fit Anderson s model of imagined communities as the community is formed around
a shared consumption of a form of media with members who will never interact with most other members. Anderson s
model is primarily criticized for two reasons: it is too vertical and it ignores hierarchy within communities.
2.

Analysis Of A Simple Heart
Taneka .D.G. Evelyn
ENG 212 042
Dec.12th, 2011
The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and other people in literature provided in
depth accounts of events that occurred during that time period. In Gustave Flaubert s A Simple Heart, he explored the
lives of two fictional women of different classes (middle and lower) during the realist period. Through characters like
Madame Aubain, a rich woman and Felicite, her poor, gentle maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of
nineteenth century France.
The first sentence of A Simple Heart gives the reader an ironic insight of the protagonist Felicite. It states Madame
Aubain s servant Felicite was the envy of the ladies of Pont l Évëque for half a century (2208, A Simple Heart).By
giving a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the reader wonder why was she the envy of the other women around
her. She was serving another woman. What was there to envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader
to put a price on happiness. Even the words used to describe the other women ladies would bring a great deal of doubt to
the reader.
Flaubert introduced the seemingly simpler character, Felicite first, with a rather vivid and detailed description. He
portrayed her as a woman that was different from the others. Being a maid, Felicite was not expected to be complex and
Flaubert did her much justice. He described She rose at daybreak to be in time for Mass, and worked till evening without
stopping. Then, when dinner was over, the plates and dishes were in order, and the door shut fast, she thrust the
Evelyn 2
log under the ashes and went to sleep in front of the heath with a rosary in her
hand (2209, A Simple Heart). He made her seem very uniformed, as though she had nothing important to do. She
appeared religious and organized but lacked that complexity that comes with being a woman. The routine was the same
and therefore proved that a woman of lower class was bounded to the house.
Felicite became so accustomed to her routine that she decided to stay in the house to the very end. According to
www.docshare.com, She grew old and more useless as a direct parallel to what was happening to the house

An Investigation into How the British could have achieved victory in the American War of Independence The American War of Independence was perhaps the first colonial war of independence during the period of European dominance across the globe. Great Britain, a relatively new country with a stable, democratic government, established an enormous trading empire which stretched from North America to East India and was the greatest superpower on Earth. It came to be so, firstly by its highly effective navy which allowed it to transport goods and defeat other rival fleets. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is believed she gave word to Paul Revere that the British were planning on destroying the armouries at Lexington and Concord and thus he spread the famous line of The British are coming! Many British Generals serving throughout the French Indian War began to sympathize with the colonists who fought alongside the British. This meant that many of the experienced and greatest of British Generals, including Gage himself, did not believe that war was the right option and did not believe in the British cause. So to prevent the catastrophes that Gage caused during the first months of the War, the British should have given the position to a General who was both capable but also sensible. Historians believe that if General Charles Cornwallis had of served in his stead then the early British disasters could have been avoided and the colonists would have been crushed in the first few months. Cornwallis was a competent commander, but when he inherited his Lordship, he often voted against heavy taxation of the colonies. Many blame him for the British defeat of the War because of his surrender at Yorktown but with his intervention at an earlier date, such a competent commander could have increased the odds of the British winning the war. Chipotle Mexican Grill has been trying to recover from their e Coli outbreak in 2015 and planned on finally escaping the decline in 2017. They planned on doing this by regaining the trust of customers (Lahart, Justin). Things were looking up for the company as sales were up by 17% and their profits increased by more than double. However, things have not gone as the company planned this year, and now the company has begun to once again decline. Although the recent Hurricanes Irma and Harvey have not caused a large impact on the economy as a whole, they have caused a major decline in Chipotle s earnings in the recent third quarter, as 425 of their locations were in the path of either of the storms (Wiener Bronner, Danielle). Another negative factor that is affecting the company is skyrocketing prices of avocados. The price of the fruit is up by 125% since January. Two reasons behind this would be an unsatisfactory harvest and an increasingly high demand for avocados. One more factor behind the company s plummeting stock is a data security hack that allowed credit card information to be pilfered from customers in April 2017 (Gillespie, ... Why I Should Not Get Better Grades I have a grown up surrounded by the bookkeeping, accounting, and tax preparation professions, as my father has held his CPA for nearly 40 years and my parents operate two successful income tax preparation offices. While in college, I eventually chose to complete a degree in finance, wanting to branch away from accounting while still being able to take advantage of the knowledge gained from my upbringing. However, after having experienced multiple professions, my current employment as a contractor in Chesapeake Energy s accounting department has inspired me to pursue furthering my education. As you ll see in from my transcripts, my undergraduate grades were not consistently stellar with my average GPA being under a 3.0. While I did support myself through college with full time employment, I do believe that I should have been able to earn better grades more consistently while completing my undergraduate degree. My impression of that time in my life was that I lacked the ability to manage my time and I wasn t able to focus on multiple goals. After starting a career in real estate, I began to regret the lack of focus that I had while completing my degree. Kane s desire for companionship is represented in the film by the presence of statues. The people he tried to get close to always left him, even his ex wife for whom he built the monstrous Xanadu. Kane buys so many statues in his desperation, because they appear human yet cannot leave. These statutes serve as a motif signifying Kane s loneliness and how he attempted to use his money to get people to stay in his life. In the closing moments of the film, vast rooms brimming with boxes full of junk, many of which remain unopened, intermingle with statues and help convey just how far Kane s obsession went, and how unfulfilled his life was. The Education System Of Ethiopia Pastoralist Education in Ethiopia Currently: For several years, donors have been implementing Alternative Basic Education Center s in Ethiopia as a way to supplement the formal primary education system in the country. Currently the country faces a number of challenges in regards to their formal primary school system including lack of infrastructure, lack of teachers and economical constraints. Many regions in Ethiopia are hard to reach and the provision of formal education is lacking. • 10. Summary Of Stuffed And Starved By Raj Patel Reading Summary/Discussion Questions #4 This week we started reading a new book called Stuffed Starved by Raj Patel and were to read the first three chapters. Patel is different in his writing compared to Pollan because he is more emotional and forceful in his statements. He has worked for the World Bank, WTO, and the UN, so his social position makes him someone others would want to listen to. Unlike Pollan, Patel goes outside of the United States and takes a global perspective in his writing. Patel talks in the preface about how many more people are undernourished and overweight and he explains that the food system he describes in his book has been engineered to continue to increase hunger and obesity. Essentially, farms are no longer owned by farmers and the farmers become the laborers. Also, it sometimes is all or nothing for farmers. For one, some land can only be used for one crop, for example coffee, and if something goes wrong with the crop, farmers lose everything. Second, unskilled labor jobs are dwindling, so there might not be much else a farmer could do if something were to happen to their land. It seems that when crops do well, farmers should be making a lot of money, however, the food processors and distributors are the ones who make most of the profit. Because of this, farmers are left with pennies compared to what the others make. Farmers and consumers have fought to control the food system, but what other choice do they have than to support it? The second section to be reviewed is chapter two. This chapter was devastating because it talked about the poverty that farmers face and the suicides that result because of it. Farmers cannot bare to see their families struggle or lose their farm that has been in the family for generations and, frequently, they use highly toxic pesticides used on their farms to commit suicide. Not only do these happen in poor developing countries, but also in wealthy, developed countries such as Australia and the United States. After a farmer passes, the family is ... This diet is often touted by dieticians and healthcare professionals as a dietary method for improving cardiovascular health. The main nutritional focuses of the diet are high intake of unsaturated fats, high intake of fiber, low intake of saturated fats, and low intake of sodium. Food choices should be centered around fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, whole grains, seafood, and plant based oils, in addition reducing consumption of red meat and solid fats. A study by Vafeiadou et al. (2015), showed that dietary replacement of saturated fats (SFAs) by unsaturated fats did not improve cardiovascular function, but did result in beneficial effects on cardiovascular biomarkers. In this randomized, controlled, single bind study 195 men and women at moderate risk for cardiovascular disease, were randomly assigned to a 16 week isoenergetic diet that were either rich in SFAs, MUFAs, or polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). The primary cardiovascular measurement of function was flow mediated dilation, and secondary measurements were blood pressure, arterial stiffness, and serum levels of various biomarkers (lipids, glucose, insulin resistance). The results of this study showed that replacing a SFA diet with those of MUFAs or PUFAs did not significantly change flow mediated dilation, or arterial stiffness, a process which probably occurs at a rate much slower than the scope of this study. There was a significant decrease in recorded blood pressure of the MUFA and PUFA diet groups, compared to the increase in blood pressure of the SFA diet group. Other biomarkers such as total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and the total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio improved significantly in the MUFAs and PUFAs diet replacement compared to that of the SFA diet ... Western Civilization Civilization: The West and the Rest Niall Ferguson s thesis in his book Civilization: The West and the Rest, is to explain and prove why western civilization has exceeded the accomplishments of other nations throughout history up until present day. He attributes this world dominance to six killer applications the west had adopted and advanced beyond the means of any other civilizations. These applications were: competition, science, private property, medicine, consumption, and work. When explaining competition, most of Ferguson s sources come from the comparisons between Europe and China. Ferguson s belief was that the Ottoman Empire had to embrace both the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment if it was to be credible as a great power, and that without science any country could become subordinate to a more advanced nation (ch. 2). The theme switches from Europe in the third chapter to North and South America. It highlights how the British distributed land within their North American colonies to almost everyone and encouraged fair and equal self governing. On the other hand, the Spanish kept a system in which all property was owned by the wealthy and had very little distribution between the rest. Even though there were vast differences between North and South America, Ferguson believed that the main reason the North was successful was the democracy they established based on laws for the individual. These laws allowed for the sanctity of individual freedom and the security of private property rights, ensured by representative, constitutional government. • 13. Essay On Eucharist And Eschatology The Lord s Supper, or the Eucharist, is a representative meal of the Gospel; bread and wine represent the human body of Jesus sent by the Father to be broken for our iniquities so that we may have everlasting life through the Spirit. In this respect, it is easy to see how the Eucharist and eschatology are related, for the sacrifice of Jesus gives believers hope for their future. However, there are many intricate connections between the two doctrines that the Church and believers fail to recognize. In her article Eucharist Eschatology , Martha Moore Keish explains that it is easy to recognize how the Eucharist is reflective of the past and influences the present, but it hardly makes claims about the future. Similarly, eschatology makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, eschatology is best understood when it considers Good Friday, for without His death, Christians have no reason to hope for the renewal of creation. However, this renewal does not come without judgment, a prominent tension point when discussing eschatology. Thus, Moore Keish argues that in light of the Eucharist, this tension can be resolved. The Eucharist, she explains, serves as a reminder that the Judge is also the Redeemer , yet it is important to remember that judgment has already come when Jesus bears the sins of the world (122). For Christians, judgment is the past and future, and it motivates present actions that are honoring and God fearing. The doctrines of the Eucharist and eschatology are best understood in the context of each other, yet Moore Keish continues, arguing that the unification of the doctrines unites the body of believers. In partaking in the communal sacrament, believers get a taste of the eschatological feast of the Lamb when they will all be seated at the table of the King (116). Therefore, communion is more an act within community than a display of one s own salvation. The breaking of the bread and pouring of the wine is an act in which the disciples partook. When the Church performs the Eucharist, they are joining with the body of believers past and present in the remembrance of Good Friday while yearning for the day all believers will be gathered around the Lord s table. (Bullard 2005, 29). The environmental justice framework was adopted on September 27th, 1991 following the First National People of Colour Environmental Leadership Summit (Bullard 2005, 21). This seventeen principle framework was extremely important at the time it was drawn up because it served as a catalyst for bringing environmental protection issues to the core. It incorporates the aims of other social movements that seek to eliminate harmful practices in houses, health care, poverty and redlining especially for those living in an urban ghetto or barrio (Bullard 2005, 25). Pros And Cons Of Globalization In Chindia Is Chindia a friend or a threat We have spent a semester studying the effects of globalization on the world and business from currency exchange to trade policy. Through our discussions and readings, we have learned that globalization is a boon to business as much as it is a curse. In business, strategic alliance agreements help companies further develop process, foster market expansion and surpass competitiors. Although they both exist within the context of society, government and business are two separate entities which share a few features. Governments at even the most basic level exist to protect their citizens interests and to ensure that their needs are being met. While, business can protect the interests of a group or country, their primary reason for existence is to turn profits to satiate their shareholders and validate those who work daily to provide the good/service. However, in order to provide adequately for their citizenry, governments are compelled to think and act a bit more like businesses to ensure that their citizens remain content. India and China are two examples of countries which at least in some areas of federal policy are thinking like businesses and as such has formed, Chindia, what would be called a strategic alliance in business. While western society knows this as epilepsy, the Hmong believe that the seizures are caused by the presence of a dab or soul stealing spirit, which leads the soul to leave the body.1 The Hmong consider those who suffer from epilepsy to be respectable and of a higher status. In The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, the doctors and the Hmong are looking for a solution to the same problem; how to stop Lia Lee s seizures. However, miscommunication between the doctors and the Lee family worsens Lia s condition. There were disagreements between the family and the doctors on how to treat Lia, and the appropriate resources to overcome these disagreements were not available. In The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, Anne Fadiman shows how cultural differences and miscommunication between the western doctors and the Lees leads to the demise of Lia Lee. The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down is only one example of many that shows how cultural differences affect health. Cultural differences such as variations in beliefs, preferences, behaviors, recognition of symptoms, and expectations of care because of one s culture, are some factors that influence decision making and consequently, health outcomes.2 For example, the Hmong s cultural beliefs include respecting the patient s privacy by not asking personal questions, asking them to undress, or take blood samples, ... Jewish American Literatue Jewish American Literature Duty Matters Throughout the course of the semester, the concept of duty has been a major theme in various novels, such as in Anzia Yezierska s Bread Givers, Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl, and Saul Bellow s Herzog. Although Yezierska, Ozick, and Bellow offer different circumstances, they all suggest a sense of responsibility from parent to child. I will show how the relationship between Sara and her father in Bread Givers differ from Rosa and the living incarnation of her daughter in The Shawl and Herzog s fight to gain custody of his daughter June in Herzog. They are all significant in understanding the parent child commitment in Jewish American families. According to these three novels, parents are obligated to their children parents must give emotional support as well as security to them. According to Norman Soloman s Judaism: A Very Short Introduction, the idea of duty is an act when one is obligated to carry out as well as a feeling of responsibility. In Judaism, a man s duties are defined by God s commandments. One must decree to the Torah, the first five books of the Bible as a guide to holiness. The complete theological idea of a man s role in life is comprised within the notion of mitzvah, which means duty . The term ḥovah, denotating obligation or duty is also used the same as mitzvah. To complete a divine commandment is to satisfy one s duty. In these three novels, duty is the chief reason for the actions of these characters. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jones wants to enforce a set of strict guidelines that students will follow inside including that they keep quiet and set their cell phones to silent. There will also be a no tolerance policy for sexual conduct and inappropriate behaviour. But not everyone is a fan of taking a nap at school. I don t feel comfortable sleeping anywhere except in my bed, says Katelyn Wells, a third year English student. I don t want other students seeing me sleep... it s a bit weird. The whole point of the meeting was to come to an agreement over disputes of land claims between colonies and Indian nations including the Iroquois. Though, through trickery, the Iroquois had ceded to the colonies land from sea to sea .2(p. 187) This meant land from the Ohio Valley all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Needless to say the Indians involved were disappointed and angered. The Royal Proclamation was the next advancement in the idea of relocation. The Royal Proclamation, made by the British, was an intangible line drawn to separate Indian lands from colonial lands. This was made to please the Indians, but also served as a way to contain and control its own peoples within the colonies. I point this out as a step towards relocation because, one of the first steps is: knowing where something can be moved from and then moved to. When a solid border is made of land that is known, by all parties involved, of whose is whose, then half of the process is accomplished. I mean by this: if the party, not yet aware of possibly being moved again, they will not try to occupy what the other party has defined as their lands because there is the belief that the same will be reciprocated from the latter party. Therefore, not as much attention is needed by the British to defend the land that is understood to be in possession of the British, and more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Morgan s Imagined Communities 1. Imagined communities, according to Anderson, are a form of speech communities created by the mass production of shared media. They are imagined because members will never meet all other members face to face. The Morgan piece on speech communities begins by describing a music video, which itself begins with two rappers speaking on the phone in different languages in different countries. After a conversation, the two meet up in person and begin the song. Morgan describes this as a speech community formed around a shared style of music, with members of the community belonging to various demographics. This would fit Anderson s model of imagined communities as the community is formed around a shared consumption of a form of media with members who will never interact with most other members. Anderson s model is primarily criticized for two reasons: it is too vertical and it ignores hierarchy within communities. 2. • 43. Analysis Of A Simple Heart Taneka .D.G. Evelyn ENG 212 042 Dec.12th, 2011 The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and other people in literature provided in depth accounts of events that occurred during that time period. In Gustave Flaubert s A Simple Heart, he explored the lives of two fictional women of different classes (middle and lower) during the realist period. Through characters like Madame Aubain, a rich woman and Felicite, her poor, gentle maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of nineteenth century France. The first sentence of A Simple Heart gives the reader an ironic insight of the protagonist Felicite. It states Madame Aubain s servant Felicite was the envy of the ladies of Pont l Évëque for half a century (2208, A Simple Heart).By giving a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the reader wonder why was she the envy of the other women around her. She was serving another woman. What was there to envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader to put a price on happiness. Even the words used to describe the other women ladies would bring a great deal of doubt to the reader. Flaubert introduced the seemingly simpler character, Felicite first, with a rather vivid and detailed description. He portrayed her as a woman that was different from the others. Being a maid, Felicite was not expected to be complex and Flaubert did her much justice. He described She rose at daybreak to be in time for Mass, and worked till evening without stopping. Then, when dinner was over, the plates and dishes were in order, and the door shut fast, she thrust the Evelyn 2 log under the ashes and went to sleep in front of the heath with a rosary in her hand (2209, A Simple Heart). He made her seem very uniformed, as though she had nothing important to do. She appeared religious and organized but lacked that complexity that comes with being a woman. The routine was the same and therefore proved that a woman of lower class was bounded to the house. Felicite became so accustomed to her routine that she decided to stay in the house to the very end.
