Motor Neuron Disease
Motor neuron disease This week I chose an article about motor neuron disease because this disease is
not a common disease. However, it can severely affect the well being of our bodies. A motor neuron
disease is the deterioration of motor neurons. This disease can be occasional or hereditary; it can affect
two types of motors, the Upper motor neurons the Lower motor neurons located in our brain.
Moreover, the signs and the symptoms of a motor neuron disease depend on the kind of motor neuron
disease a person has. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is one of the most contracted types of neurons
disease. Furthermore, there are three types of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis including Sporadic,
Familial, and Western Pacific. Among these three types

The Importance Of Care Act 2014
Care Act 2014 Came into effect in April 2015 and is the most important reform in care in over 60
years. The Care Act brings together and modernises existing legislation and should also help the
public to understand why things happen in a certain way. The Act main aims are to put people in
control of their own care, to delay or even prevent the need for care, to promote the physical, mental
and emotional wellbeing of the person and their carer and to introduce a fairer system of care and
support. The Act stresses the importance of wellbeing, it also places more responsibility on Local
Authorities to reduce, delay or prevent the need for care. Local Authorities must also work with other
public bodies such as housing authorities and must now

Miletus Research Paper
While under the Persian influence around 525 BC Miletus reorganized its constitution. Miletus will
have an annual magistrate called the Aisymuetes or president. They will serve as the chief priest at the
temple of Apollo of Didyma. They will also have the official called the Molpoi or psalmist. This is the
group where the presidents were elected from. They were assisted by three officials called the
associates. These three were elected biennially from the six tribes. Miletus also had the subordinate
official called the Ouitadue. Ag p. 151 2 In 520 BC the power was retained under the control of
Darius. Miletus came under the control of the tyrant Histiaeus, who participated in the Scythian

After being repopulated, the people of Miletus restored the old constitution. They changed a few
things like abolishing the associates with their jobs being taken over by other officials. They also
started the business of religious matters again at Didyma at the temple of Apollo. They continued to
divide the population into the six tribes. It became strong enough to play a role later in the fifth
century in the struggle for Greece between Athens and Sparta. Athens had Miletus join into the Delian
League, but they were still too weak to contribute partly due to the destruction of the city. Miletus also
faced internal political conflict and Athens became involved in the situation. Athens supported the
upper class to continue to rule rather than a democracy which is what Athens used to rule its city state.
However, this upper class of rulers started to take advantage of the workers causing more tension. The
oligarchs revolted from Athens and massacred their opponents. By 442 at the latest Athens put down
the revolt and established a democratic government on the Athenian model. Gs Pg 398 After they
created some stability, they appointed a commission of five to revise and change the constitution of
Miletus. The appointed commission of five followed the structure and order of the Athenian form of
government. They had a council with superior magistrates called wardens. They also had assistant
magistrates called colleagues. The Psalmist

Kurt Vonnegut s Personal Experiences
THESIS STATEMENT
Kurt Vonnegut s personal experiences of World War II and the firebombing of Dresden were important
factors in determining his writing style and the political and philosophical views that it conveyed.
Throughout his works, the overarching message that Vonnegut delivers is the need for love and
compassion in a world where humans are helpless against an indifferent fate.
PURPOSE STATEMENT
Through critical analysis, historical research, and textual evidence, a study on Kurt Vonnegut s
background will be conducted in order to display the effects that the era in which he lived had on his
writing.
INTRODUCTION
A baby boy, named after his father, was introduced into the world on November 11, 1922; this day,
better known as Armistice Day, was set aside to celebrate the peace treaty signed after World War II.
The United States of America was celebrating a time of hopeful peace and prosperity. But, a world
away, a young German soldier named Adolf Hitler was rising to power and gaining the support of the
Bavarian Fascist Party. Ironically, this child who was born in a time of optimistic abundance would
grow up amidst a horrible economic depression and would become a man as his country was
preparing to enter a brutal war.
Kurt Vonnegut Jr. was born to his father and Edith Lieber in Indianapolis, Indiana on Armistice Day.
At home, his parents struggled to pay every bill but still ensured that their children became educated.
After graduating from Cornell University with

The Rise and Fall of the Italian Mafia
La Cosa Nostra and the Five Families of which the surrounding area of New York City is comprised
has drastically altered the culture in the region; transforming industries with brute force and attracting
much public attention. Hollywood focuses on glamorizing the Mafioso lifestyle, distracting from the
true nature of organized crime. Over the past decade, the key opportunities have been utilized by the
Italian Mafia, resulting in a powerful behind the scenes dominance over many aspects we may not
expect. It s gonna be a Cosa Nostra.
The Honored Society, or Mafia, as it was less often called, was a vast criminal brotherhood that had

Gambling has proven to be one of the more profitable things that the Mafia provides. From their own
private casinos to games for elite clientele, to booking off track bets in Belmont and Saratoga, their
profit margins are tremendous. In the 1920 s Mafia Boss Bonanno started to fix horse races, betting
huge amounts of money on the known outcomes. Fixing boxing matches was also a favorite of the
early crime lords. Sammy The Bull Gravano, John Gotti s ex Underboss states that charitable casino
events in New York from the period of 1970 1995 were most likely a front for private profiteers. A
man named Joe Pistone, an undercover FBI agent who became a made man, relates to gambling
events hosted by Cosa Nostra as having been taken care of by bribing city officials and local police
officers. In the 20th century this has proved very profitable, but in the last few years has slowed down
due to police forces cracking down heavily. Gambling, however, serves only a limited number of
people, and more money can be made on a larger spectrum.
Extortion along with the threat of violence is a very common practice among the New York Mafioso,
and the Genovese family has used these tactics to substantially gain power in the past decade. When

early days the sport was not profitable due to the ban in almost all U.S states so the original owners

to make the company profitable and were ready to sell but, than they came up with the idea of the
Ultimate Fighter. The Ultimate Fighter was a reality show where a group of athletes were all put in
one house where they would only focus on fighting. This show allowed people to view how the
fighters trained and learn the various personalities each athlete had. The finale of this show is what
resurrected the sport. The contest between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar was a three 5 min.

Essay On Six School
Six schools. Six is the number of colleges I toured before I stepped foot on Colorado Mesa University
s campus. Six schools I considered calling home for the next four years. The campuses fell within
massive desert metropolises, rain hazed cities, negative temperature towns and areas that reeked of
farm animals. Six schools, and I never experienced the feeling that everyone mentions when they find
their destiny. Six schools, and I never once felt at home. This was until I visited CMU. Colorado Mesa
University summed up everything I has been looking for within a college; interactive atmosphere,
outstanding nursing program, outdoor activities close by, and a small home town feel. Upon the

I want to make someone feel like they belong, and they have found their home, at Colorado Mesa
University.
Though I am excited to relocate from Fort Collins, I am most excited to meet other students attending
CMU in the fall. I believe that the first few weeks in college is crucial to collegiate happiness and
success. This time is imperative for socialization, meeting new friends, and getting involved around
campus and in the community. The Outdoor Program, Alternative Spring Break, Club sports, Forensic
Science Club and Mavrides are all motivating opportunities I plan on considering once I arrive on
campus.
My freshman year of high school I found myself overwhelmed by the course load at a new school. I
competed in 5A volleyball as a team captain, but unfortunately never forced myself to get involved in
clubs or community service throughout the year. Because of this, I missed out on many chances to
meet new people as a freshman. This is a decision I regret, as a senior. Come sophomore year, I was
determined to become more involved in both my school, and my community. I first decided to join the
Family Career and Community Leaders of America organization at my school, which I was later
president, and a multi city level officer for. By joining FCCLA, I have been given the opportunity to
meet thousands of other young leaders between State conferences, and the National conference I
attended. Through planning meetings, organizing conferences, promoting schoolwide awareness

Imperial system is also known to be as British Imperial system, used in many parts of the world in
from 16th to the 19th century. Although the Metric system has gained popularity nowadays, the
Imperial system is still used by many countries, like the United Kingdom.
While working in these countries you may find difficulty in units. In Metric System we use gram as a

will probably get confused.

On Two Friars
The first chapter of G.K. Chesterton s biography of Thomas Aquinas, Saint Thomas Aquinas, entitled
On Two Friars , compares and contrasts the two great friars: Thomas Aquinas and Saint Francis.
Chesterton describes just how vastly different these two friars were, while also remarking on how
similar they were at the very same time. Thomas was a man of reason and logic, whereas Francis was
a man of the wild and nature. Francis naturalism led him to the conversion of many non Christians, as
he believed that widespread Christianity is the main focus of the religion, whereas Aquinas, the dumb
ox, believed that we must first discover Christianity ourselves before spreading it across the earth.
Aquinas is described by Chesterton as being a dunce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Francis used Nature much as St. Thomas used Aristotle; and to some they seemed to be using a Pagan
goddess and a Pagan sage, (Chesterton 29)showing just how different the two ideologies or methods
of the two friars are. Due to these differences in ideologies, different eras have taken likings to the two
different friars respectively. Chesterton himself describes that, Therefore it is the paradox of history
that each generation is converted by the saint who contradicts it the most, (Chesterton 24) showing
that each and every generation takes a liking to their own respective philosopher. In the case of Assisi
and Aquinas, Assisi took hold in the 19th century full of imperialism, and Aquinas has taken hold in
the 20th century, wherein we seek reason as we have begun to divulge from reason. This search for a
proper philosopher in order to fulfill ones needs is common place for society, wherein we constantly
want to grow or change who we are, and ultimately the popularity of philosophers is influenced by
their methods. As stated previously, both Aquinas and Assisi used very different and often seemingly
heretical ideas of Nature and Aristotle, Chesterton even described them as Pagan goddess and a Pagan
Sage, (Chesterton 29) showing just how foreign and strange these ideas were to Christians of their

Consider Rent To Own When You Have Bad Credit Essay
Consider Rent To Own When You Have Bad Credit But Need A Car
If you have bad credit, it puts you in a tough spot when you need to buy a new car. You may need a car
to get back and forth to work. It s certainly more convenient to have your own car for grocery
shopping and running errands. However, when your credit is bad, you ll have difficulty getting a loan.
An alternative that might work for you is to buy a car under a rent to own program. Here s what you
need to know.
Why Bad Credit Loans Are Dangerous
It s difficult to get a loan at all when you have bad credit, but if you can get one, then you ll probably
have to take out a subprime loan. These are loans from companies that specialize in lending money to
people with bad credit. Because of the risk they take, they charge a high interest on your loan. This
makes your monthly payments higher. To find a car in your monthly payment range, you may need to
settle for a car you don t like. If you buy a new car with a subprime loan, you may end up with
monthly payments you struggle to make on time. This can wreck your credit and lead to financial
problems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, you ll probably need proof of income along with identification and references, but your
credit history doesn t matter. The process is very similar to renting a vehicle like you do when you go
on vacation. The difference is the money you pay each week applies to the cost of buying the car. You
can keep renting it until you pay it off, but if you run into financial problems, you can return the car
without damaging your credit.

Northern Arizona University Case Study
Founded in 1899, Northern Arizona University s (NAU) first library opened with a dictionary and
encyclopedia in its collection. Located in the central part of the NAU Flagstaff campus, it provides
both physical and virtual environments that foster intellectual discovery, collaborative research, and
access to technology (Library overview, 2016). As with most academic libraries, the research
collections are critical to supporting the curricular and research mission of the university. As of April
2016, members of the NAU community and public have access to more than 670,000 print and e
books, 81,000 e journals, 161,000 online audio and video recordings (J. Swann, personal
communication, April 19, 2016). Successful learning requires inclusive and widespread support along
with relevant resources from the library. Thus, the library offers spaces including group and individual
study rooms; multi media production studios, classrooms, and a makerspace. The library s mission
statement confirms the organization is committed to:

The Effects Of Water Pollution
Pollution is a term applied to any environmental state or manifestation which is harmful or unpleasant
to life, resulting from failure to achieve or maintain control over the chemical, physical or biological
consequences or side effects of human scientific, industrial and social habits (Feugo, 2008; Anderson
et al., 2005). From another perspective, water pollution refers to any physical, biological or chemical
change in water quality that adversely affects living organisms and makes water unsuitable for desired
uses as a result of anthropogenic activities (Cunningham and Saigo, 2003; Anderson et al., 2005).

Achieving Goals Essay
When I was 17 years old, my father was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Without a doubt it was an
event which marked my life and helped me mature in many aspects. I witnessed how my father began
to lose his cognitive functions like his ability to focus, changes in his personality, behavior and
emotions. This was the first time that I felt interested in learning how the brain process the
information and motivated to learn more regarding this disease in order to help him. After my father
passed away, my mother fell into a depression so I began to search for ways to improve her emotional
state by reading books and magazines on the subject. Without the support of my father and the drastic
change in my life, I understood that the only way to improve my quality of life was to study and find
the passion to which I was going to dedicate the rest of my life. After careful thought, I decided to
move to the United States. Leaving my family, I came to this country in search of knowledge, contacts
and greater opportunities . During these years, I have been confronted with many obstacles, but I have
been able to resolve them thanks in part to my dedication. When it comes to achieving my goals, I find
it in myself to push myself until that goal it met. I consider that there is no lack of opportunities for
someone that believes in their capabilities and is aware that nothing comes without sacrifice, meaning
that hard work and dedication are required in order to achieve goals. When I

The Importance of Social Media to Activism Essay
Lindsey Brown Professor Daren Dean English 2000 22 March 2013 You Cannot Ignore the
Importance of Social Media According to Dictionary.reference.com, activism is the policy or action of
using campaigning to bring about political or social change. A huge campaign that is well known
across the world, the Civil Rights Movement, was brought about by Martin Luther King, Jr. King
risked his life everyday to ensure justice and equality for the African American race. Small Change by

Another drawback is the potential to cause riots or outbreaks in a school, town, or even a country. The
countless amount of bullying that happens on social networks is evidence that if social media
participants are not careful about what they post on their social media pages and on the Internet for
public viewing, it can possibly trigger bias or prejudice judgments. Social networking sites began to
become popular in 2002 and although still in their youth, it has many disadvantages that should not be
overlooked. People should not have to be worried about what they put on social networks because as
Americans, we have freedom of speech. Thus it is reasonable for people to be skeptical and oppose
social media when runs the risk of being counterproductive. No matter how much potential social
media has for political or societal change it is important to criticize its negative aspects. An article
written by Andrea Moncada, begins her argument with the question has social media had the same
impact on advocacy. Similar to Gladwell s points of view, Moncada states, social media can help get
the word around, but participants must be united by a core message and traditional methods... This
source of uncertainty is the basis for its support and is understandable. In addition to the fraudulent
issue and the disadvantages it presents; there is a crucial distinction between traditional activism and

Human Primates And Human Primate
For my final paper for this class I will be going over and portraying the behavior of non human
primate and human primate in the literature and movies we went over, compared to the evolutionary
understandings of primate behavior. Throughout this class we studied and compared the different
primates, including human and non humans. According to the Wikipedia, The primate lineage is
thought to go back at least 65 million years ago. with that one could say that research on non human
and human primate can somehow explain the theory behind evolution. In addition to the different
reading materials we had in class we also watched several movies displaying different behaviors of
non human primate and human primate. With that saying, I developed a thesis statement, despite its
differences and similarities between non human primates and human primates behavior, can evolution
be understood differently when comparing the two through various readings, movies and evolutionary
research. Throughout this paper I will be going over the differences and similarities in behavior,
evolution, a higher power and even my take on such an opposition. First, I want to go over and talk
about the Evolutionary Theory. The Evolutionary Theory is a theory that has been supported by years
of experiments which is known as being one of the best speculation of natural occurrence. The

Sexual Orientation And Gender Identity
As mainstream media is now embracing the once taboo topics of sexual orientation and gender
identity as popular culture utilities, psychologists and medical professionals are still researching the
biological, psychological, and social differences between the two. Since the phenomena of ¨coming
out, or openly identifying as a sexual orientation or gender identity besides heterosexual or cisgender
respectively, is a relatively recent anomaly, there is limited but contemporary research. The analyses
done so far indicate a universal and clear consensus signaling the separation and unrelated nature of
sexual orientation and gender identity. The American Psychological Association on their webpage
defines sexual orientation as ...the sex of those to whom one is sexually and romantically
attracted...research has suggested that sexual orientation does not always appear in such definable
categories and instead occurs on a continuum. In addition, some research indicates that sexual
orientation is fluid for some people. While in contrast, gender identity is defined as one s sense of
oneself as male, female, or transgender. Milton Diamond attempted to separate the aspects of one s
personality in his 2002 research paper entitled Sex and Gender are Different: Sexual Identity and
Gender Identity are Different. Diamond asserts that in order to understand the distinction between

Mystery Of The Mary Celeste
Mystery of The Mary Celeste
What Happened to Her Crew The Mystery of the Mary Celeste has been talked about for centuries.
Historical scholars have debated the events that lead to her crews mysterious disappearance. Many
books both non fiction and fiction have been written about her. Did an explosion caused by her
precious cargo cause her crew to abandon ship? Was there a violent sea quake that made her
immobile? Maybe the captain thought her hull was filling with water and sinking after days of violent
weather? Looking at each theory gives clues as to what really happened to the Mary Celeste. The
Mary Celeste began its fateful journey on November 7, 1872, with her Capt. Benjamin Spooner
Briggs, his wife, the couple s 2 year old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The explosion theory; although far fetched, seems to be one very realistic cause of The Celeste s
abandonment. The main purpose of the Celeste s voyage was to deliver 1701 barrels of alcohol to
Genoa, which was used to fortify wine. Lee explains in his article for the ULC News that:
It seemed highly possible that the leaking alcohol caught light, sending Captain Briggs into a panic
and prompting the dreaded cry: Abandon ship! It was a plausible explanation but has always been
discounted because there was no sign of fire, or explosion. A blast of sufficient magnitude to persuade
an experienced captain to take the last resort of abandoning ship would surely have left at least a few
scorch marks on the wooden barrels, or in the hold (1). New scientific techniques have been used to
solve the great mystery. An experiment, conducted by a scientist at UCL for a Channel 5, shows that
an explosion may indeed be the key to the fate of the brigantine and her crew (1). The experiment was
conducted by a chemist from The University of Los Angeles, California. Dr. Andrea Sella [UCL
Chemistry] built a replica of the hold of the Mary Celeste. Using butane gas, he simulated an
explosion that would have been caused by the leaking alcohol in the hull of the Mary Celeste.
He did not use wood barrels, instead he used cubes of paper. A huge blast was caused after he set light
to the gas; which sent a ball of flame upwards (1).

Historians put the deaths at the hands of Dracula at somewhere between 40,000 and 100,000 . And

From 1678 to 1681 the idea of The Popish Plot took over conversation and became an obsession in the
country. The Plot, which this time was entirely fictional, was created to scare the country into
believing that Catholics where conspiring to dethrone Charles II like they had done in 1605 with the
gunpowder plot. The cartoon shows parliament under one archway in session and Guy Fawkes in the
other with the gunpowder to blow up parliament. This false plot was designed to create fear amongst
the protestant community, it replicates the gunpowder plot of 1605, this print and the idea of a second
plot increased the division in society for Catholics, a significant impact on the treatment of Catholics
after the plot as even 80 years later the puritans still printed propaganda, the cartoon also implies the
shunning off know Catholics in society. This occurrence was one of many replications of the plot,
causing severe repercussions for Catholics.
Social division after the plot included Catholics going against each other; those connected with the
plot where at times out casted by other Catholics, this increasing divide in community and at times
affected the sentencing of other Catholics who were included in the plot or in few cases only knowing
the conspirators. Social figures such as Anne Vaux who supported conspirators like the Jesuit priest

Sigmund Freud s Psycholyncy Stages In My Vignette
In my vignette, the subject is about Susie. Susie lives with her mother, father, older sister and a
newborn baby brother. Susie is 7 years old and is in the second grade, at the parent teacher conference
her math teacher, Mr. Rankin informs her parents of Susie s problematic behavior at school. He
mentions that Susie had thrown a tantrum while using vulgar language upon receiving a bad score on
her exam, complaining about deserving a better grade. When her parents confronted her about this she
claimed that she is actually smart but Mr. Rankin is a horrible teacher. Additionally, Susie explained
that she is behaving this way in her other classes because she feels that none of her teachers like her.
After a few weeks had passed there was a noticeable shift in Susie s behavior, rather than lashing out
when she is angry or overwhelmed Susie bites her nails and chews on her pencil.
Psychologist Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic theory proposes that our childhood sexuality and
unconscious motivations influence our personality. As we grow we develop in coordinance with Freud
s Psychosexual Stages, where our Id s pleasure seeking energy focuses on distinct erogenous zones.
According to Freud s Stages of Psychosexual Development Susie is in the Latency Stage. The Latency
Stage ranges from the age of 6 to puberty, during this stage individuals are experiencing a phase of
dormant sexual feelings, this means that sexual feelings are present but are not yet developing at this
stage. Freud

Hot Lanes Case Study
Why HOT Lanes?
High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes have been a central part of the commuter strategy for Northern
Virginia since the late 1960s and early 1970s. Northern Virginia recognized the need to have dedicated
high occupancy vehicle to facilitate the large growth in the region s population. In 1969 the nation s
first HOV lanes opened up on I 395, initially bus only lanes in an attempt to encourage mass
transportation. In the early 1970 s the lanes sat empty most of the time, consequently the decision was
made to open the lanes for passenger vehicles with two or more people, the HOV lane as we know it
was operational.
In the Washington Metro area, there has been very little change how the area handles vehicular traffic.

Benefits
Primary beneficiaries of the Hot Lanes are the commuters. Secondary benefits include a large influx of
construction work, improved road conditions, $250 M worth of road infrastructure improvements not
financed by tax dollars among others. A majority of the Northern Virginia region benefits from the
HOT lanes in one form or another. The long term benefits of the program have yet to be realized as
this is an 85 year project.
Value of Time
The estimated value of time in the Washington DC Metro area is $17.67 per hour. With 45% of vehicle
miles during peak hours traveled during the 5.4 hours per day that are considered congested .
Estimates vary one study from California reported that the individual value of time for a commute to
work is between 50 90 percent of the average wage rate . Local economic dynamics play a role in the
equation. A study on the HOT Lanes in Texas determined that Katy Freeway traveler s value of time
was approximately 42% of their equivalent hourly wage . It demonstrates the fact that the more one

Perplexing Economic Welfare
In providing economic security, the United States is failing compared to the democracies of European
countries. The United States has the most inefficient welfare system in the Western world (Patterson,
2013). In the United States, it is hard for people to qualify for assistance in a public assistance
program, as the eligibility criteria can be perplexing. Many programs are complicated and have no
sliding eligibility scale. For instance, a person who makes $495 in monthly income could be eligible
to receive a specific benefit, where another person making $500 in income a month could be ineligible

Latent Defect Essay

Final Paper
How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work?
Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one
manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and
disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith
into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, The person who risks nothing does nothing, has
nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot
learn... and grow... and live. (Buscalglia, 2009) The contractor who is bound to the owner must

Binghamton Housing Authority. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace
apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The
parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in
constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v.
Schofield case, which states, We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty
of making a machine accident proof or foolproof. The court also noted that the complex had been used
without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not
have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not
contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of the child.
Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as
long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified.
Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent
defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor.
Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent

that it was happening more frequently and faster, it started recently before the closing of the nearby

What Are The Effects Of The Cold War In The 1940s
At the heart of the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union in the 1940s was a
fundamental difference in the ways the great powers envisioned the postwar world. After World War II
countries were in chaos, no one was able to agree on what should happen to the postwar world. While
the Soviet Union and the United States were allies during the world wars, they were the one with the
biggest issues during the aftermath of the war and their issues ended up becoming what we now know
as the Cold War. Many issues led up to this war and to this day we still suffer from the war and the
American people still fear communism.
To begin with, both the United States and the Soviet Union had their own beliefs about what would
benefit our world during the postwar period. After World War II, both Russia and the United States
competed to be the greatest world power, When two sides competed for influence and power in this
way, the Cold War began. The United States and the Soviet Union were both great world powers who

Odysseus Vs. Epic Of Gilgamesh

20 Oct. 2017 Paper Topic One: Odysseus vs. Gilgamesh
Sometimes it only takes a few seemingly small flaws to determine if one will live a lifetime of
adversity, and this appears to be the case for both Odysseus in Homer s Odyssey and Gilgamesh in the
Epic of Gilgamesh. Unlike what their grand titles may suggest, these ancient heroes were by no means
perfect people, and, if anything, it would be more realistic to attribute the concept of imperfection with
them instead. However, that is not suggesting that heroism equates to imperfection, but rather that
these heroes have earned their titles from their battles with their imperfections. In the introduction of

(Gilgamesh Tb.I P5.) Odysseus, however, was very different from Gilgamesh in terms of his ruling
style. While Gilgamesh had exercised harsh and unjustified rule, Odysseus had difficulties controlling
and disciplining his crewmen. Throughout Odysseus journey home, on the boat given to him by the
Phaeacian King Alcinous, there were many instances where the crewmen did not follow his
leadership, made their own decisions, and even talked back to him. For example, whilst Odysseus and
his crewmen approached the island of the Sun god Helios, he reminded them of Circe s dangerous
prophecy regarding the temptations of Helios island. Thus, he ordered his men to sail forward (Homer,
Od. 12.294 299); however, one seaman, Eurylochus, pleaded him to let them stop for the night and
rest; the rest of the crewmen agreed with Eurylochus cheerfully, to which Odysseus gave in and
allowed them to rest one night, if only they all promised not to harm Helios cattle. (Homer, Od.
12.328 329) Under better authority, the crewmen would not have pleaded to their leader, nor would
their leader have given in so easily; however, Odysseus was easily manipulated and lacked the
necessary authoritative skill. Unfortunately, this was neither his only nor greatest flaw. Actually,
Odysseus greatest known flaw is what is known as hubris, and it is often described as a sense of
excessive pride or defiance of the gods. Odysseus greatest show of hubris occurred on the

How Did The Norman Invasion Affect The English Language
Toward the close of the Old English period, an event occurred that had the greatest, longer lasting
effect on the English language than any other in history. This event was the Norman Conquest of
1066. The historic victory of William, the Duke of Normandy (hereafter known as William the
Conqueror), at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 proved to be the significant catalyst for the English
people. This is most notably evidenced by the cultural, religious and literary developments in the years
following the Norman Invasion. Before the conquest of England, the language of the country was
what was called Old English or pidgin English. This French/Norman invasion changed Britain s Anglo
Saxon culture and language to one that was more akin to what existed in mainland Europe at the time.
Additionally, the invasion shaped the English language irrevocably; the new French incursion pushed
Old English in the direction of Middle English, a variety more closely resembling what is spoken
today. This change in governance reformed nearly everything else in the country, especially literature.
After the Normans settled in Britain, Latin and French were the only recognized languages in the
Norman court. This resulted in the English language being largely ignored in literature for nearly one
hundred and fifty years. During the next two centuries, after the classical influence of French and
Latin, English literature had been immensely impacted and enriched. When the English language

Neocortex Research Paper
A relatively large neocortex differentiates mammals from other most other animals (Amthor). The
neocortex allows higher cognition, such as data processing, voluntary movement, and language (Lui et
al. 18). Cognitive activities such as these are critical for human life and thus proper neocortex
development is important. The development involves the formation of six horizontal neuronal layers,
which all differ in function and connection. The differences between layers comes mainly from unique
axon projections of the excitatory projection neurons located in each layer. Upper layers (L1 through
L3) are involved in data processing and have inter hemisphere projections. Lower Layers (L5 L6) are
involved in voluntary motor function and have subcortical connections. Layer 4 tends to have ... Show

In mice, this process starts around Embryonic Day 11.5 as the neural progenitor cells located in the
Ventricular and Subventricular Zones (SVZ) migrate upwards to form what will later become Layers 2
through 6. Neurons are formed as these neural progenitor cells become Radial Glial Cells (RGC), a
subpopulation of stem cells, and differentiate. The timing of the differentiation determines when
neurons will form the lower or upper layers. When the differentiation occurs early in neurogenesis, the
neurons migrate slightly to form the lower layers. In later neurogenesis, the differentiated neurons
migrate past the lower layers and begin forming the upper layers. The formation of the upper layers
tends to arise from differentiation of Intermediate Progenitor Cells (IPCs) rather than RGC
differentiation. IPCs are formed from neural progenitor cells alongside RGCs (Kwan et al. 1538).
While neurogenesis in humans may lead to differing relative sizes of the layers and SVZ, the structure
of six specified layers is the same. The divisions between the layers do not occur in humans until
around gestational week 9 to 11 (Deboer et al.

The movie 10 Things I Hate About you is based on Shakespeare s Taming of the Shrew. Specifically,
The 10 Things I Hate About You is a modern version of Shakespeare s 16th century play. In order to
make a modern version of this play, the author of the movie had to incorporate both similarities and
differences. Although the Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You has several
differences, they are very similar in many ways.
The movie and the play are made in two different time periods. Since the movie is in a more recent
time period, the clothes worn by the characters in the movie are more modern. The clothes in the play
are more elegant and reflect the 16th century era.

The Legacy Of The Native Americans
Our history is written by the winners of the bloody, and merciless battles that shaped our country. The
hate that has slaughtered thousands of people, is also the hate that has made our country the beautiful
tragedy it is today. We all know the history of how Christopher Columbus came to the native land,
named the people here indians because he thought he was in the Indi mountains and brought disease
and colonists to the land to make it part of spain. What is usually left out of our history is just how
brutal living at that time really was, and just how much we abused the Native Americans to get what
we wanted. The true history of the native americans is no longer taught in schools, they no longer
teach about the native americans and what they went through from being invaded, tricked, slaughters
and finally removed from their own land. The first genocide in america was the Native Americans,
they were pushed from their homes and forced to fight or die for their ancestral lands. Even though the
natives were mostly friendly and willing to become acquainted with the new settlers they were soon
pushed out and slaughtered. One of the last real resistance acts came in 1812 when congress declared
war on great britain, Tecumseh, A famous Native American warrior, lead an act of defiance with his

Plato s Declaration Of Beauty
Plato describes beauty in the Phaedo as being radiant among other objects , while the other virtues
remain murky in relation to it. Plato s declaration of beauty s radiance indicates that it is significant.
Beauty is observed most clearly by use of vision, which is the sharpest of our bodily senses . Plato
explains that beauty alone has this privilege, to be the most clearly visible and the most loved .
Because of the way in which beauty stands out among the other virtues, Plato confirms that beauty is
dominant over the other virtues. In the Symposium, Diatoma explains how beauty is the highest good
and is in harmony with the divine . Her definition indicates that there is a relationship between
material beauty and divine Beauty. Beauty is intended to lead to Love, which Diatoma defines as
wanting to possess beautiful things forever . Once a man possesses beautiful things, he achieves love
and is happy. A man comes to possess beautiful things through the process of reproduction. In
reproduction, lovers attempt to preserve their beauty by transmitting their beauty to offspring. The
lovers are successful if they give birth to beauty, whether in body or soul . Reproduction immortalizes
the parents beauty, since the offspring possess the parents beauty after they die. According to Diatoma
s definition of Love, the parents who reproduce beauty achieve Love.

Examples Of Ignorance In Fahrenheit 451
In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray bradbury, Bradbury shows that behind the destructive fire and the
burning of books, citizens believe that the key to happiness is ignorance. In the story, the citizens of
the dystopia don t question what is hidden from them, but the main character of the story ponders what
he is told and discovers truth and happiness through the knowledge gained from reading stolen books.
Bradbury shows the ignorance the citizens possess, through many examples. In the beginning of the
book he shows it in a huge way when the firemen don t think twice about burning a woman alive:
Montag placed his hand on the woman s elbow. You can come with me. No, she said. Thank you,
anyway. The pink face of Beatty now showed the faintest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the book Ray Bradbury shows how Montog reacts to fire when he is ignorant.
Montag did not think about what he was doing while he burned books because he had not began
reading books himself. Montag grinned the fierce grin of all men singed and driven back by flame. He
knew that when he returned to the firehouse, he might wink at himself, a minstrel man, burnt corked,
in the mirror.(4) This quote shows Montag s outlook on fire before he began reading books himself.
Montag was a complex character in Fahrenheit 451. His views constantly change as the story
progresses. In the end of the book, Bradbury showed him and his reactions to fire where, after his
ignorance had been lifted. He had realized that it could do more than cause destruction and take away
pieces of art away, but that it could help bring people together. Bradbury shows this when montag
finds people come together around fire rather than be pulled apart because of it: It was not only the
fire that was different. It was the silence that was concerned with all of the world.(146) Montag looked
at the fire at the end of the book and felt happy and at peace with the world. He did not feel anger or a
resistance to the fire, but he was one with it and was no longer ignorant to how special books

Mikayla Alex s Cabin In Africa
Alex: One day in a far off cabin in the African Savannah lived Kalulu.
(We say Ka you say lulu)
Alex: Kalulu was a beautiful soul and was loved by all the townsfolk. In her spare time she worked
long, hot days farming cotton for very little pay. One day she returned home from work to find King
Marcel Alain de Souza.
*Mikayla acts surprised*
Michaela: Come with me.
Alex: The King was very feared, as he was known for holding people against their will. With the
corrupt government no one could stop him. As they arrived near the castle the King put Kalulu into a
mine.
*Mikayla acts scared*
Michaela: If you don t mine all the diamonds I desire I will kill your father! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!
(We say uh, you say oh)

in his head.
*Sam looks like he is thinKing*
Sam: I shall help thee if t be true thou art willing to sacrifice thy first issue. (I will help you if you are
willing to sacrifice your first child in Olde English)
Alex: She didn t think much of it and agreed.
*Mikayla nods her head*
Alex: Later that day,
*Michaela walks in, jovial*
Michaela: I now know who my wife shall be! I shall marry you Kalulu tomorrow at noon! Oh, and
your father has been released from my grasps.
Everyone: TWO YEARS LATER
ALex: The King And Kalulu were happily married and were having a wonderful life.

  • 4. Miletus Research Paper While under the Persian influence around 525 BC Miletus reorganized its constitution. Miletus will have an annual magistrate called the Aisymuetes or president. They will serve as the chief priest at the temple of Apollo of Didyma. They will also have the official called the Molpoi or psalmist. This is the group where the presidents were elected from. They were assisted by three officials called the associates. These three were elected biennially from the six tribes. Miletus also had the subordinate official called the Ouitadue. They changed a few things like abolishing the associates with their jobs being taken over by other officials. They also started the business of religious matters again at Didyma at the temple of Apollo. They continued to divide the population into the six tribes. It became strong enough to play a role later in the fifth century in the struggle for Greece between Athens and Sparta. Athens had Miletus join into the Delian League, but they were still too weak to contribute partly due to the destruction of the city. Miletus also faced internal political conflict and Athens became involved in the situation. Athens supported the upper class to continue to rule rather than a democracy which is what Athens used to rule its city state. However, this upper class of rulers started to take advantage of the workers causing more tension. The oligarchs revolted from Athens and massacred their opponents. By 442 at the latest Athens put down the revolt and established a democratic government on the Athenian model. Gs Pg 398 After they created some stability, they appointed a commission of five to revise and change the constitution of Miletus. The appointed commission of five followed the structure and order of the Athenian form of government. They had a council with superior magistrates called wardens. • 5. Kurt Vonnegut s Personal Experiences THESIS STATEMENT Kurt Vonnegut s personal experiences of World War II and the firebombing of Dresden were important factors in determining his writing style and the political and philosophical views that it conveyed. Throughout his works, the overarching message that Vonnegut delivers is the need for love and compassion in a world where humans are helpless against an indifferent fate. PURPOSE STATEMENT Through critical analysis, historical research, and textual evidence, a study on Kurt Vonnegut s background will be conducted in order to display the effects that the era in which he lived had on his writing. INTRODUCTION A baby boy, named after his father, was introduced into the world on November 11, 1922; this day, better known as Armistice Day, was set aside to celebrate the peace treaty signed after World War II. The United States of America was celebrating a time of hopeful peace and prosperity. But, a world away, a young German soldier named Adolf Hitler was rising to power and gaining the support of the Bavarian Fascist Party. Ironically, this child who was born in a time of optimistic abundance would grow up amidst a horrible economic depression and would become a man as his country was preparing to enter a brutal war. Kurt Vonnegut Jr. was born to his father and Edith Lieber in Indianapolis, Indiana on Armistice Day. At home, his parents struggled to pay every bill but still ensured that their children became educated. After graduating from Cornell University with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Rise and Fall of the Italian Mafia La Cosa Nostra and the Five Families of which the surrounding area of New York City is comprised has drastically altered the culture in the region; transforming industries with brute force and attracting much public attention. Hollywood focuses on glamorizing the Mafioso lifestyle, distracting from the true nature of organized crime. Over the past decade, the key opportunities have been utilized by the Italian Mafia, resulting in a powerful behind the scenes dominance over many aspects we may not expect. It s gonna be a Cosa Nostra. The Honored Society, or Mafia, as it was less often called, was a vast criminal brotherhood that had developed in Palermo and western Sicily independently of the Camorra of Naples. They developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gambling has proven to be one of the more profitable things that the Mafia provides. From their own private casinos to games for elite clientele, to booking off track bets in Belmont and Saratoga, their profit margins are tremendous. In the 1920 s Mafia Boss Bonanno started to fix horse races, betting huge amounts of money on the known outcomes. Fixing boxing matches was also a favorite of the early crime lords. Sammy The Bull Gravano, John Gotti s ex Underboss states that charitable casino events in New York from the period of 1970 1995 were most likely a front for private profiteers. A man named Joe Pistone, an undercover FBI agent who became a made man, relates to gambling events hosted by Cosa Nostra as having been taken care of by bribing city officials and local police officers. In the 20th century this has proved very profitable, but in the last few years has slowed down due to police forces cracking down heavily. The explosion theory; although far fetched, seems to be one very realistic cause of The Celeste s abandonment. The main purpose of the Celeste s voyage was to deliver 1701 barrels of alcohol to Genoa, which was used to fortify wine. Lee explains in his article for the ULC News that: It seemed highly possible that the leaking alcohol caught light, sending Captain Briggs into a panic and prompting the dreaded cry: Abandon ship! It was a plausible explanation but has always been discounted because there was no sign of fire, or explosion. A blast of sufficient magnitude to persuade an experienced captain to take the last resort of abandoning ship would surely have left at least a few scorch marks on the wooden barrels, or in the hold (1). New scientific techniques have been used to solve the great mystery. There had been a strange illness in the town, like none had ever seen. The call was left unanswered for days, dismissed by inspectors akin to myself as tom foolery. Their desperation spoke volumes of the veritude of their plight, as I of all people was informed of this. What Are The Effects Of The Cold War In The 1940s At the heart of the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union in the 1940s was a fundamental difference in the ways the great powers envisioned the postwar world. After World War II countries were in chaos, no one was able to agree on what should happen to the postwar world. While the Soviet Union and the United States were allies during the world wars, they were the one with the biggest issues during the aftermath of the war and their issues ended up becoming what we now know as the Cold War. Many issues led up to this war and to this day we still suffer from the war and the American people still fear communism. To begin with, both the United States and the Soviet Union had their own beliefs about what would benefit our world during the postwar period. Epic Of Gilgamesh Madison Aycock HST 328 Dr. Chang 20 Oct. 2017 Paper Topic One: Odysseus vs. Gilgamesh Sometimes it only takes a few seemingly small flaws to determine if one will live a lifetime of adversity, and this appears to be the case for both Odysseus in Homer s Odyssey and Gilgamesh in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Unlike what their grand titles may suggest, these ancient heroes were by no means perfect people, and, if anything, it would be more realistic to attribute the concept of imperfection with them instead. However, that is not suggesting that heroism equates to imperfection, but rather that these heroes have earned their titles from their battles with their imperfections. In the introduction of the Epic of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Gilgamesh Tb.I P5.) Odysseus, however, was very different from Gilgamesh in terms of his ruling style. While Gilgamesh had exercised harsh and unjustified rule, Odysseus had difficulties controlling and disciplining his crewmen. Throughout Odysseus journey home, on the boat given to him by the Phaeacian King Alcinous, there were many instances where the crewmen did not follow his leadership, made their own decisions, and even talked back to him. For example, whilst Odysseus and his crewmen approached the island of the Sun god Helios, he reminded them of Circe s dangerous prophecy regarding the temptations of Helios island. Thus, he ordered his men to sail forward (Homer, Od. 12.294 299); however, one seaman, Eurylochus, pleaded him to let them stop for the night and rest; the rest of the crewmen agreed with Eurylochus cheerfully, to which Odysseus gave in and allowed them to rest one night, if only they all promised not to harm Helios cattle. (Homer, Od. 12.328 329) Under better authority, the crewmen would not have pleaded to their leader, nor would their leader have given in so easily; however, Odysseus was easily manipulated and lacked the necessary authoritative skill. Unfortunately, this was neither his only nor greatest flaw. Actually, Odysseus greatest known flaw is what is known as hubris, and it is often described as a sense of excessive pride or defiance of the gods. • 33. How Did The Norman Invasion Affect The English Language Toward the close of the Old English period, an event occurred that had the greatest, longer lasting effect on the English language than any other in history. This event was the Norman Conquest of 1066. The historic victory of William, the Duke of Normandy (hereafter known as William the Conqueror), at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 proved to be the significant catalyst for the English people. This is most notably evidenced by the cultural, religious and literary developments in the years following the Norman Invasion. Before the conquest of England, the language of the country was what was called Old English or pidgin English. This French/Norman invasion changed Britain s Anglo Saxon culture and language to one that was more akin to what existed in mainland Europe at the time. Additionally, the invasion shaped the English language irrevocably; the new French incursion pushed Old English in the direction of Middle English, a variety more closely resembling what is spoken today. This change in governance reformed nearly everything else in the country, especially literature. After the Normans settled in Britain, Latin and French were the only recognized languages in the Norman court. This resulted in the English language being largely ignored in literature for nearly one hundred and fifty years. During the next two centuries, after the classical influence of French and Latin, English literature had been immensely impacted and enriched. When the English language ... • 34. Neocortex Research Paper A relatively large neocortex differentiates mammals from other most other animals (Amthor). The neocortex allows higher cognition, such as data processing, voluntary movement, and language (Lui et al. 18). Cognitive activities such as these are critical for human life and thus proper neocortex development is important. The development involves the formation of six horizontal neuronal layers, which all differ in function and connection. The differences between layers comes mainly from unique axon projections of the excitatory projection neurons located in each layer. Upper layers (L1 through L3) are involved in data processing and have inter hemisphere projections. Lower Layers (L5 L6) are involved in voluntary motor function and have subcortical connections. Layer 4 tends to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In mice, this process starts around Embryonic Day 11.5 as the neural progenitor cells located in the Ventricular and Subventricular Zones (SVZ) migrate upwards to form what will later become Layers 2 through 6. Neurons are formed as these neural progenitor cells become Radial Glial Cells (RGC), a subpopulation of stem cells, and differentiate. The timing of the differentiation determines when neurons will form the lower or upper layers. When the differentiation occurs early in neurogenesis, the neurons migrate slightly to form the lower layers. In later neurogenesis, the differentiated neurons migrate past the lower layers and begin forming the upper layers. The formation of the upper layers tends to arise from differentiation of Intermediate Progenitor Cells (IPCs) rather than RGC differentiation. IPCs are formed from neural progenitor cells alongside RGCs (Kwan et al. 1538). While neurogenesis in humans may lead to differing relative sizes of the layers and SVZ, the structure of six specified layers is the same. The divisions between the layers do not occur in humans until around gestational week 9 to 11 (Deboer et al. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The hate that has slaughtered thousands of people, is also the hate that has made our country the beautiful tragedy it is today. We all know the history of how Christopher Columbus came to the native land, named the people here indians because he thought he was in the Indi mountains and brought disease and colonists to the land to make it part of spain. What is usually left out of our history is just how brutal living at that time really was, and just how much we abused the Native Americans to get what we wanted. The true history of the native americans is no longer taught in schools, they no longer teach about the native americans and what they went through from being invaded, tricked, slaughters and finally removed from their own land. The first genocide in america was the Native Americans, they were pushed from their homes and forced to fight or die for their ancestral lands. Even though the natives were mostly friendly and willing to become acquainted with the new settlers they were soon pushed out and slaughtered. • 40. Plato s Declaration Of Beauty Plato describes beauty in the Phaedo as being radiant among other objects , while the other virtues remain murky in relation to it. Plato s declaration of beauty s radiance indicates that it is significant. Beauty is observed most clearly by use of vision, which is the sharpest of our bodily senses . Plato explains that beauty alone has this privilege, to be the most clearly visible and the most loved . Because of the way in which beauty stands out among the other virtues, Plato confirms that beauty is dominant over the other virtues. In the Symposium, Diatoma explains how beauty is the highest good and is in harmony with the divine . Her definition indicates that there is a relationship between material beauty and divine Beauty. Beauty is intended to lead to Love, which Diatoma defines as wanting to possess beautiful things forever . Once a man possesses beautiful things, he achieves love and is happy. A man comes to possess beautiful things through the process of reproduction. In reproduction, lovers attempt to preserve their beauty by transmitting their beauty to offspring. The lovers are successful if they give birth to beauty, whether in body or soul . Reproduction immortalizes the parents beauty, since the offspring possess the parents beauty after they die. According to Diatoma s definition of Love, the parents who reproduce beauty achieve Love. In the life of a philosopher, beauty is essential. The goal of philosophy is to achieve a ...
