The Crucible Mass Hysteria Essay
Mass hysteria is a phenomenon that transmits collective allusions of threats through a population in
society as a result of rumors and fear. The Crucible by Arthur Miller accurately portrays mass hysteria
that took place during the Salem witch trials of 1692. People were accused based on revenge or other
malicious motives and to make the situation worse, nothing about the trials was logical. After a few
people were accused, fear set into the town and everyone was viewed as a witch until proven innocent.
Mass hysteria not only happened during the Salem witch trials, but right after the Twin Towers fell on
September 11, 2001 as well. Mass hysteria ties into both the accusations made in The Crucible and the
islamophobia that set in after 9/11. The terrified and anxious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

America was not a complete mess with orphaned children and cows roaming around like in The
Crucible however, there were still transformations from before to after the mass hysteria of 9/11. A
short term effect caused by mass hysteria were hate crimes towards people of the Islamic faith.
According to the FBI, anti Islamic hate crimes spiked by 1,600 percent with 481 incidents during
2001. Another major change was the increase in airport security. A month after 9/11 the Transport
Security Administration, also known as the TSA, was founded. The TSA made the following rules to
create traveling by plane more safe: more specific ID is required, shoes must be removed at
checkpoint, all baggage must be screened, no liquids above 3.4 ounces are allowed past the
checkpoint, and enhanced pat downs. Immigration is another long term change that occurred after
9/11. In fear of other terrorist attacks the funding for immigration was increased, many criminals were
removed, and regular police officers were turned into immigration officers. Although many of the
precautions taken were reasonable, some were

Argumentative Essay On Illegal Immigrants
Franklin D. Roosevelt, an American president, has Dutch ancestry in his life. Anybody who comes to
America are from different cultural backgrounds; every family arrives in the United States to make
something of themselves. Families are getting ripped apart as they are being deported back to their
homeland, and leaving the life they built behind. A great deal of diverse families who travel to the
United States; are deprived of their American dream because of fear of deportation. Illegal immigrants
should be granted amnesty because Immigrants are taking jobs many Americans do not want, they are
taken advantage of for not having legal documents, and they are not secured by fundamental living
rights.
Hundreds and millions of illegal immigrants are a big part of the workforce in America. Plumbers,
Electricians, and Landscapers are a variety of professions illegal immigrants do in order to put food on
the table. More than others are astounded by the amount of jobs that are open because no one is
willing to work them. Jobs are not secured for many diverse immigrants, some are occupied by people
who are more advantaged than others in regards of experience and street smarts. Illegal Immigrants ...

Immigrant workers comply with the policy rules of the workplace, but the workplace does not comply
with paying the right salary. This shows that immigrants are taken advantage of by their employer. Not
to mention, the fear of deportation, many jobs are ransacked by government officials at any time for
hiring illegal immigrants. As a result of this, immigrants are forced to flee in search of a new
workplace. Immigrants suffer financially through having unstable jobs and sending money back to
their homeland. Considering this, large amounts of immigrants are being deprived of the correct salary

Periodontal Discrepancy Essay
Occlusal discrepancy is just a difference in the way teeth normally fit together. Some examples would
be overjet, overbite, open bite, cross bite, and under bite. It has been found that these occlusal
discrepancies may play a role in the progression of periodontal diseases. Some research has been done
on the relationship of these two aspects but it is very controversial and more research needs to be
performed before a definite answer can be provided. Many researchers have studied where or not
occlusion has a connection with progression of periodontal disease but it has been very controversial.
Some researchers have stated that they have found evidence that occlusal discrepancies cause

clinical trials that evaluated the role that occlusion had on the progression of periodontal disease in
humans, was unethical. To avoid unethical situations, patient records from a private practice facility
were collected and studied to see if there was a connection between occlusal discrepancies and the
progression of periodontal disease. The records that were studied were from patients that had
periodontal evaluations as well as occlusal assessments. All of the patients studied had periodontal
disease but only some of them had occlusal decencies. After a twelve month period some patients
returned and had another periodontal evaluation and occlusal assessment and the data was compared
to the data that was collected twelve months prior. The data collected was compared. Patients without
occlusal discrepancies and patients with occlusal discrepancies both had worsening periodontal
disease after twelve months of no treatment but, the progression of periodontal disease and increased

Snack Food Industry
When performing a five forces model for the snack food industry, I first looked at competition from
rival sellers as I felt that this was the strongest threat for manufacturers. Rival sellers can easily try to
produce a new line of products, mimic a competitor s product, and it s difficult to differentiate a snack
food from the competition as there is so much competition. The market isn t quickly growing, so rivals
are competing for the same customer base and there is very little if any cost to switch from one snack
food to the next. Many snack foods are very similar and there are hundreds if not thousands of
competitors all fighting for the consumer s purchase.
A high competitive pressure exists from the sellers of substitute ... Show more content on

This incident occurred in the City of Auburn, County of King, Washington;
On 10 21 2016 at about 1000 hrs I was in the south parking lot of Isaac Evans
Park at 30700 Green River RD SE, when I noticed an older silver Honda sedan,
WA/BBJ3053, reversed in to a parking shall. At the time, the vehicle had two people sitting in it, a
female in the passenger seat and a male in the driver seat. The vehicle was not running at the time. I
know from several previous contacts at the park that stolen vehicles are often dropped off in the
parking lot as it is away from any busy roads and out of sight from any buildings. At the time the
vehicle was the only one in the area.
I drove over and parked my fully marked patrol vehicle next to the Honda and walked over to the
driver s side of the vehicle. As I walked over the male started to exit the vehicle.
I walked over to the male and asked him what he was doing in the area and if he was willing to
provide his name. The male quickly stated that he had a DOC felony warrant for his arrest. I placed
the male in handcuffs, per my training, and advised him of his Miranda Rights. The male stated that he
did not have ID on him, but provided his name as Garrett Brown. I checked Brown, via radio, through
WACIC/NCIC/DOL and dispatch confirmed that he had a DOC Escape Community
Custody warrant for his arrest, #2714104794. Additionally, dispatch advised that he had an DV no
contact order and a female, Devin Bushaw, was the protected person. I

A Streetcar Named Desire, by Tennessee Williams Essay...
A Streetcar Named Desire
From the beginning, the three main characters of Streetcar are in a state of tension.
Williams establishes that the apartment is small and confining, the weather is hot and oppressive, and
the characters have good reason to come into conflict.
The South, old and new, is an important theme of the play. Blanche and her sister come from a dying
world. The life and pretensions of their world are becoming a thing of memory: to drive home the
point, the family mansion is called quot;Belle Reve, quot; or Beautiful Dream. The old life may have
been something beautiful, but it is gone forever. Yet Blanche clings to pretensions of aristocracy. She

Stanley is convinced that he is being swindled, but after a moment it becomes clear that
Blanche is capable of no such thing. She cares nothing for money; her class only understands how to
spend it, and that is part of why Belle Reve was lost. When Stanley demands if it was lost on a
mortgage, Blanche can only respond uncertainly, quot; That must have been what happened. quot; She
is completely ignorant on business matters. Stanley is no expert, but his basic approach is that of a
new world, the real world in which Blanch is so unable to survive.
Blanch has suffered terribly; we have only seen hints of it so far, but later we will learn more about the
depths of her loneliness. Loneliness and desire are integral to Blanche s being. She chose the harsh
road of staying at Belle Reve to care for the dying, and she has suffered because of it. For many years,
she was a delicate young woman who lived alone in a house full of the terminally ill.
There is both honesty and illusion in her comments about the sincerity of the suffering. On one hand,
Blanche is very insincere. She has dealt with her suffering by making believe, by taking refuge in
fanciful dreams about herself and her surroundings. She lies about her age.
She also insists that Mitch cover the naked bulb. She does not want to be seen in the harshness of
bright light. In darkness, she is free to fabricate and re imagine whatever cannot be seen.
On the other hand, there is something very

these questions well I suggest that you go to Baylor. Why you ask ? Baylor is not as expensive as most

Also, it is good for medicine degrees also. Like I said it is not too cheap and not to expensive like
Harvard . Another reason why Harvard is mostly known for the study of law and it can become very
expensive for a the average person attending college. Attending this school could ruin your financial
plans in the future because you would have to get a lot of student loans. Harvard is more harder to get
in than Baylor. Baylor is like a school for many things. They even have two schools and more
resources. Yet another idea from ,Baylor vs Harvard(2015) is that Harvard has good training for
students.Harvard has higher test scores or MCAT. I understand that Harvard is a good school but it is
very expensive. Also, (for people the live in southwest and south)it is far away. The relative location is
in the upper states Another one of my idea is from Baylor Med school and Harvard is that it gets very
cold in the winter Harvard(29.9*F) Baylor(55.2*F).That is a difference of 25.3 which is more than
19.5 degrees. Also Baylor gets hot in the summer Baylor(84.5*F) Harvard(70.9*F).In difference it is

Fourth Amendment Violations
The US Patriot Act: Violations of the 4th Amendment
The US Patriot Act was a very controversial act that was created after the events of September 11,
2011. Although many sanctions under the US Patriot Act grossly violated the fourth amendment in
several ways, congress felt it was necessary to protect the nation. Sections that violated the fourth
amendment are: the sneak and peek warrants included in section 213, roving/warrantless wiretapping
of section 206, and finally trap and trace searches of section 214. These are just a few of the many
violations I can account for. The Fourth Amendment is part of the Bill of Rights that was added to the
Constitution in 1791. It protects people from unlawful searches and seizures. This means that the
police can t search you or your house without a warrant or probable cause. Are we truly willing to

In 2007, a District Judge found such warrants to be unconstitutional. However, the government

enforcement officials too much power with very few limitations or oversight. With the state of our
countries race relations and the ongoing utilization of profiling amongst law enforcement, tensions
amongst citizens and law enforcement are on a continued rise. Roving/warrantless wiretapping,
Section 206 enabled the Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies to

Spanish Colonialism and the Indigenous People of Bolivia
Prior to Spanish discovery of the new world, the area now known as Bolivia was home to three major
ethnic and linguistic groups; the Uru, Aymara, and Quechua. The Uru lived on rafts, fishing and
foraging along the shore of Lake Titicaca. The Aymara dominated the Uru, reducing their status to
poor fishermen and landless workers. Aymara society was built upon a basic social unit of kinship that
organized the distribution of labor, and this system, termed ayllu, was later adopted by conquering
Quechua. The Aymara are known for their practice of freeze drying potatoes high in the mountains, for
their organized systems of irrigation, and their control of colonies in warm ... Show more content on

Francisco Pizarro, Diego de Almagro and Hernando de Luque lead the discovery and conquest of the
Inca Empire. Francisco Pizarro arrived at the Pacific coast of the Inca empire in 1531 via the Panama
Canal. He gained support from indigenous peoples who resented Inca dominance. At the time the Inca
ruler, Atahualpa, had recently murdered a brother to obtain the throne and was in the midst of
attempting to consolidate political power. Atahualpa first encountered Pizarro on November 16, 1532
and was promptly taken prisoner while 180 Spaniards kept an Inca army of 40,000 at bay with cannon,
firearms and swords. The Inca were forced to compile upwards of 39,400 pounds of gold and silver to

simply ordered to choose his method of death; burning at the stake or strangulation. He chose the later

reign of colonial dominance.

difficulty controlling the actions of its officials. Initial settlement of the highlands was delayed by a

right? Concealed under these factors lie environmental destruction as well as a damaged economy.
The Locavore Movement has been on the rise due to its nutritional benefits, however, this
overshadows the effects of locally grown food on our environment and economy.
Many locavores say that locally grown produce contains more nutrients since they ve been recently
picked, unlike supermarkets where the produce has been left in the freezers for weeks. In addition,
they also claim that since it takes less distance to travel from farm to plate there is a decreased chance
of contamination (Source A). It s accurate to say that most produce grown from local areas are
healthier which is why the government plans to place more investments into farmers markets(Source

Crooks Concert Review Essay
When you see a band live, you arrive with a certain level of expectation. Live music is about
atmosphere, energy and a certain sense of intimacy that comes with seeing a band or artist recreate
their art for you on stage. If your expectations are met, you leave not only happy, but with a deeper
connection with the band thereafter. I had Crooks at a disadvantage before this show as my
expectations had been simmering ever since their debut EP Nevermore captivated me back in 2012.
Despite this internal pressure, it took only the first minute of the evening s opening track to realise that
my expectations were about to boil over.
Crooks are a five piece act from Cheltenham in the UK, playing a fast, energetic brand of post
hardcore accentuated by regular tempo changes, melodic vocals and intricate guitar work. It s a
formula that has recently earned them a record deal with Headphone Music, an indent of Equal Vision
Records, who will be releasing the band s debut full length album later this year. It s also a formula
that leaves a lasting impression in a live setting. The drums hit you first; heavy hitting, fast and
frenetic but played with absolute precision, setting the momentum for the whole set with constant
rhythmic inertia. The guitar work is tight and intricate during the softer moments, yet angular and
biting when the aggression is needed, providing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Attachment is the emotional relationship between the child and the caregiver. Attachment is important
for several reasons. A child that has a good emotional bond with their parent is more likely to have
better copping skills with negative emotions in stressful moments; they are more independent and
more confident to go out in the world and explore their options. There s two particular theory of
attachment id agree with which would have to be Bowlby and Harlow theory. Attachment I believe
comes from early age and it s based on how the caregiver takes care of their child and the emotional
connection they share with their child. Harlow s theory states that babies are more attached to theirs
mothers for the simple reason it s the parent that feeds them and shows protection, once they find that
in a parent they become more in order to survive.
There are different styles of attachments for example secure, insecure, avoidant, and anxious
ambivalent. Secure attachment is when a child its upset when their caregiver leaves but once the
caregiver returns they are able calm down. This shows how they feel secure enough that they can
count on the parent to come back. Another type of attachment is insecure attachment is when the child
shows no emotions towards their caregiver and they don t really care whether their caregiver comes
back or not. Which for a baby it s not a good sign, this style of attachment

Remembering The Lost Research Paper
Remembering the Lost
(Memorialize)
All over the world, there are people who achieve such great achievement, that when they die, there is a
monument of some type that might be built for them. This doesn t have to be just when a person of
great ability to do something dies, but people might also have memorials when there is an extreme
sacrifice that was made. This might be because of hard times that were going on, and the people who
make the monument have to determine the size they want it and what materials they are going to use,
etc. There are many different procedures a person might have to go through in order to determine what
they want to do to remember somebody or a certain time period that is now gone. Three factors a
group should consider in memorializing a person or event are why it would be important to remember,
where it will be located, and what will come of doing so. First of all, it is very important to consider
why the person or time period is an important thing to remember. Before building something like this,
people need to realize that there will be many people who see the monument and wonder what the
meaning of it is. When somebody decides to build one, they need to ask themselves what the
importance is. For example, if something really bad happened to a certain community so they decided

What Are The Causes Of The Age Of Exploration
The Age of Exploration, starting from the 15th century and lasting until the beginning of the 17th
century, was a period of time in which the Europeans explored the Americas and Africa while
searching for a more efficient trade route with Asia. However, the Europeans did not just discover this
lands, but also made use of them and the native population. The causes of the Age of Exploration were
God, Gold and Glory which effects were the expansion of Christianity, importation of precious
resources into Europe and colonization of new lands.
The first cause of the Age of Exploration was God which resulted in an expansion of Christianity.

Christianity. In a letter from Father Kino, a Catholic Priest, in 1687, it is described how he succeeded

In the beginning of the 16th century, the importation of gold was close to zero but a century after
Columbus found America, the income of gold from the new world reached almost 7 millions of

sending missionaries to convert and conquistadors to kill the native population and use their lands.
The whole scheme of the Europeans was created by the desire to import more resources in their
countries. This leads to the discovery of new continents which resources and native people are
exploited by most of the coastal countries in Europe. However, the huge import of precious metals
leads to inflation. That makes countries like Spain and Portuguese one the richest and most powerful

History Of Bimbo Bakeries US
Bimbo Bakeries USA, headquartered in Horsham, Pennsylvania is the United States affiliate of Grupo
Industrial Bimbo, founded in Mexico City, Mexico. Though Grupo Bimbo is now a multinational
corporation, it began as a single family owned bakery in Mexico City called El Molino . Lorenzo
Servitje Sendra worked with his father in the family bakery throughout his childhood, but when his
father died in 1936 he had to take over. Lorenzo was educated and ambitious, and together with three
of his family members devised a plan to increase the scope of their business. They bought five
delivery vans to deliver their breads, wrapped in plastic to preserve freshness, to various small stores
daily. Customers loved their product and within a few years they had increased production and were
expanding outside of Mexico City.
By 1955 they had a fleet of 100 delivery trucks. They were growing fast and organized their
operations as Grupo Industrial Bimbo in 1965. They were exporting their breads, crackers, cookies
and other baked goods to South America, Portugal, and Spain. But the principals at Grupo Bimbo saw
the untapped potential of the huge consumer market in their neighbors to the north, the United States
(Thain, 2015).
A corporate growth trajectory into the U.S. was carefully planned, and with the passage of the North
American Free Trade Act in 1994 Bimbo was ready to act. How did this small group of determined

What Are The Four Bases Commonly Found In Dna
1) a. What are the four bases commonly found in DNA? The nucleotides encompass a sugar molecule
(2 deoxyribose), one among four element ring structures called bases (called A (A), purine (G),
pyrimidine (C) and T (T)) and a phosphate cluster.
b. Which form base pairs? A and G contain 2 rings and are referred to as purines whereas C and T
contain one ring and are referred to as pyrimidines. 2 of those strands combine along to make the
acquainted double helix structure of DNA. the 2 strands link to every alternative via interaction
between the bottom pairs in a very extremely specific method. A solely pairs with T and C solely pairs
with G. This specificity, called complementary base pairing, arises via hydrogen bonds. every C G
pairing involves 3 hydrogen bonds between the bases, whereas every A T bond involves solely 2
hydrogen bonds leading to a weaker interaction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

From: Group #2 (Jordan King, Kelsey Darnell, Xiaomeng Liao)
Date: 04/04/2013
Subject: ACCTG 642: Case 08 6, The Rump Organization
Statement of Relevant Facts
The Rump Organization is a commercial real estate company that purchases and constructs
commercial property. On the basis of the corporate restructuring plan, Rump s CEO, Ronald Rump,
and Rump s board of directors on December 27, 2005 approve a plan to involuntarily terminate 100 of
the company s employees. The plan provides for each terminated employee to receive a lump sum
cash payment equal to one month s salary only if the employee voluntarily signs a waiver of any right

A possible solution is that a liability is not recognized at all. A second alternative solution is that the
liability would be initially recognized at communication date, December 31, 2005, then adjusted
cumulatively over the future service period, December 31, 2005 through the termination date of
January 31, 2006. A third alternative solution is that the liability is recognized on the communication
date of December 31, 2005. We assume that management would prefer no recognition of a liability;
however, if a liability must be recognized management would prefer the liability to be recognized on
December 31, 2005, then adjusted as terminated employees sign or do not sign the waivers over the
service period. Management would not want to recognize part of the liability in January because this
would negatively affect their balance sheet and their current ratio during the first quarter, which could,
in turn, affect the company s ability to satisfy contracts or receive loans. In contrast, recognizing the
liability at the end of the year would have little to no material impact on the company s ratios or
financials since it would be taking into account the entire year versus a few months. The auditors main
concern will be to make certain that the liability is recognized and reported in the proper fiscal year as
this liability could be quite large and materially affect financial statements.

The Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda
The poems by the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda remain significant in contemporary times through their
use of continuing poetic love metaphors and discussion of love. This analysis focuses on Neruda s
language and word choice itself in the absence of a historical, political or even a highly contextual
personal examination. His love poems in particular, such as in his books One Hundred Love Sonnets,
Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair and The Captain s Verses all help one in viewing the world
anew via the approach of the poems towards intricate surrealist imagery and passionate emotion as
well as the forms and stages of love.
The selected poems use repeating natural images alongside similarly recurring romantic emotions. For
example, Tonight I Can Write the Saddest Lines portrays the speaker s feelings of loss and poignant
longing (Karmakar, 2015 p3) in the descriptions of the fractured night, with the night wind , infinite
sky and blue stars continuing the image of an lonely evening. The hopeful reflection of morning is
indicated with the lines that fall on the soul like dew on the grass . Alongside this, the subject whom
the speaker is referring to is mentioned as having a bright body as well as describing her huge, still
eyes . Longing is a constant theme in Neruda s poems, his is the same with the poem s view on love,
with finality in the relationship as well as uncertainly with this poem ending in closure saying, these
are the last verses I write for her .

The Era Of The Common Man
The Jacksonian period has been regarded as the era of the common man , this characterization only
holds true in regard to politics. Jackson s action in economic development was little different from
when this era began. His view towards reforms were threatening and unwanting. Jackson was
relentless in his strive for presidency. Jackson lost his first presidential run to John Quincy Adams in
1824 despite having the popular and electoral votes. The Jacksonians (supporters of Jackson) called
this event the Corrupt Bargain due to Henry Clay support of Adams after he was out of the race.
Jackson won the following election in 1828, after a war of words were exchanged between supporters
of Jackson and Adams. The Jacksonians accused Adams of being wasteful with money, while Adams
supporters accused Jackson of being a murderer in the war of 1812 and called his wife a bigamist.
These accusations got to Rachel and weeks later she passed. Nonetheless, this was still a victory for
the new Democratic Republicans against the National Republicans. Politically, the age of Jackson was
a triumph for the common man since politics were more open. Before Jackson politics were only
indulged in by aristocrats and elites; With Jackson it was open to all white male citizens. It has also be
noted that before Jackson came into office that there was expansion in voting with Ohio and other new
western states. These new constitutions made older states conform to their laws due to the fear of

Second of all, many accidents occur with not wearing a seatbelt, my mom was able to witness one.
About a month ago, my mom was on jury duty for a car accident. The driver had been drinking along
with the other passengers in the car. None of the people in the car had been buckled. They hit a tree,
the front passenger door flew off the car and the girl in the passenger seat became badly paralyzed.
She had been a basketball player and now she can t even move her body. The girl in the back seat had
been her sister. She got flung many feet away from the car and died. It took the police many days to
recover her body and they said if she had been buckled she would still be alive today. There s a quote
by John Gvare that states, Oh, I never wear my seatbelt, I don t believe in gravity. You can obviously
tell that he is being sarcastic. However, what he is saying is very true. Most people who don t wear
their seat belts risk their lives and the lives of the people who are in the car with them if they don t
wear their seatbelt. You re not just risking your life, but the other people in the car with you as well.
You should always be a good example to other people in the car by buckling up, and if you don t want
to and up like the driver in the accident, don t drink and drive either. Obviously, not wearing your

Movement, was a literary, artistic, and intellectual movement that kindled a new black cultural identity
in the 1920 s to the mid 1930s (History.com). Harlem was the Mecca for black writers, musicians,
poets, and scholars. The Harlem Renaissance included visual arts, but excluded jazz, even though it

The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Essay
The Feminist Perspective of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
In her feminist critique of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Anne Millard Daughtey described Buffy as a
show which obviously promotes female strength and power (159). Buffy herself is a symbol of female
empowerment (149); as feminists we can all take comfort in the fact that Buffy kicks butt and so can
we all (164). Sherryl Vint agrees that Buffy is a positive role model for young women, one which
feminism should celebrate (para. 3). I find this understanding of Buffy, both the character and the
series, to be very problematic, and with this paper I aim to undertake a revised feminist critique of the

Before Buffy and her friends discover this, Dawn has a number of unnerving experiences, in which

Truly, in the Buffyverse, there is no such thing as woman .
Prior to embarking upon my own analysis of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it this pertinent to consider
Joss Whedon s envisioning of his series, and in particular, his heroine, Buffy. In interviews he has
often explained his desire to create an alternative ending for the horror movie:
It was pretty much the blond girl in the alley in the horror movie who keeps getting killed ... I felt bad
for her, but she was always much more interesting to me than the other women. She was fun, she had
sex, she was vivacious. But then she would get punished for it. Literally, I just had that image, that
scene, in my mind, like the trailer for a movie what if the girl goes into that dark alley. And the
monster follows her. And she destroys him. (Quoted in Vint, para. 6)
Whilst we see here that Whedon s intention is to subvert the conventional horror movie/slasher genre,
I m not sure that he is successful. He is running the considerable risk of merely replacing the fetishised
female victim with a fetishised female hero; she is still a pretty blond girl, she is still fun, she is still
sexual, she is still Barbie with

The third philosophy that I plan to utilize is social reconstructionism. Social reconstructionism was

Why Girls Get Periods
Period Questions
Why do girls get periods?
Every 28 days (or month), your uterus lining thickens in preparation to receive a fertilized egg if you
were to become pregnant. If this egg isn t fertilized, your vagina will release this uterine lining in the
form of blood. This is why you get your period!
What exactly is the blood that we push out when we have our periods?
The blood you push out every month (or so) when you get your period is the lining your uterus
prepares to receive a fertilized egg. When you do not get pregnant, this lining is released through your
vagina.
How often should I be getting my period?

Brownish blood does not necessarily mean something is wrong. In fact, plenty of women experience
this throughout their menstrual cycle. Sometimes, brownish discharge means that a little blood stayed
in your uterus for a day or two before it came out.
I keep bleeding through my pads/tampons, is that normal?
Menstrual flows vary from woman to woman, some of us bleed a lot more, some bleed a lot less
during our periods. If you are bleeding through your pads and/or tampons it might mean you need to
opt for products designed a heavier flow. However, if your periods are very heavy in flow and are

My period came earlier than expected, what does that mean?

that your period cycle will stabilize. If you d like to have a more predictable menstrual cycle though,

The Drum Major Instinct And The Effect Of The Drum Major...
As a teenager I have seen the effects of the drum major instinct. When I started transition to the
adulthood I realized that I had I either had to swim or I would sink. I had to defend myself to be
someone in this world and succeed in a humble way not forgetting my roots. On 4 February 1968,
Martin Luther King, Jr, preached The Drum Major Instinct from the pulpit of Ebenezer Baptist
Church. Ironically, two months before his assassination on April 4th, 1968, he told his congregation
what he would like to be said at his funeral, I d like for somebody to say that day that Martin Luther
King, Jr., tried to give his life serving others ) (King, 135.) Excerpts were played at King s nationally
televised funeral service, held at Ebenezer on 9 April 1968. The drum major instinct, according to
King, is the desire for recognition, importance, and attention. In the sermon The Drum Major Instinct,
written by Martin Luther King clearly demonstrates that the drum major instinct can easily be
interpreted wrong and turn into a pernicious instinct. To begin with, the sermon is given out in a

the sermon he brings up a situation that says, Have you ever heard people that you know, and I m sure

Cross Langston Hughes
The poem Cross by Langston Hughes utilizes word choice, figurative language and literary devices to
add to and enforce its theme. Langston Hughes word choice in his poem Cross, affects the theme of
the poem. The title alone has many denotations that pertain to the story. For example, the word cross
can be defined as a crossbreed, or mix, a grouping the speaker can easily fall under, due to their mixed
heritage. It also can mean a problem or burden. This can be applied to the speaker, because they have
to deal with the problem, or burden of only half belonging to the white or black races. A cross can
mean a crossroad, or a decision that must be made that can affect the rest of the decision maker s life.
This is applicable to the poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of these things reinforce and add detail to the meaning of the poem. For instance, My old man
died in a fine big house./My ma died in a shack (9 10). These lines use symbolism in order to show the
difference between the speaker s parents. While their old man died in a fine big house (9), which
symbolizes that he was wealthy, their mother died in a shack (10). Symbolism and imagery are used
within the two lines to show that while the speaker s dad had a significant amount of money, their
mother was poor and had little to no money. The aforementioned lines also use imagery, because they
allow the reader to see both houses in their mind s eye. A fine big house (9), makes one think of a
mansion, while a shack (10) brings a small, run down home to mind. These add to the gap between the
parent s races, and help further display the dilemma that the speaker is facing, in deciding, or figuring
out, where they belong. In the final two lines of the poem, the poet uses apostrophe to drive their point
home. The speaker says: I wonder where I m going to die, /Being neither white nor black? (11 12).
The two lines are used in order to show the speaker s dilemma in full, as well as displaying the
speaker s desperation to fit in somewhere. Figurative language and literary devices including
apostrophe and symbolism allow the poet to deepen

Morpheus becomes the supernatural mentor during Neo s training the road of trials aboard the
Nebuchadnezzar, the rebel ship. After the agents capture Morpheus in the second call to action, Neo
proves that he is the One by saving Morpheus and dealing with the agents, the ultimate boon. In the
process, he stops bullets in mid air by opening his mind using a supernatural force and makes Agent
Smith explode in a guilt free act of violence. A unique feature of the film is that Neo is not presented
with a situation in which to resist temptation. It is unusual that this classic aspect of the Monomyth is
left out. Frodo has the ring, Buddha has three women, Christ has the three temptations of the Devil,
etcetera.2 Thus, the film follows much of the Monomyth but still manages to be unique.
Freedom has different definitions and histories in various parts of the world. The most important
definition of freedom in the context of The Matrix is that of the Western World. The desire for
freedom is not inherent to

How Photography Changed My Life
From my first picture on my aunt s Canon, I knew I loved photography. After the initial click, I couldn
t get enough. That s when I decided I wanted a camera of my own. It has impacted my life in many
ways, such as: learning responsibility, meeting new people, and realizing my future occupation.
Because I wanted a camera, I had to be responsible and raise money for it myself. My mom helped me
find a job she thought I would like, but I was thirteen at the time and wasn t looking forward to it. I
got an after school job helping an artist who teaches painting classes and sells calligraphy. I got paid
fifteen dollars each night, and it ended up not feeling like work because she was fun to be around.
After a few months, I had about three hundred

The Road Cormac Mccarthy
As you read further, and further into The Road by Cormac McCarthy, you continue to see everything
we hold as a moral, abolished. Cannibalism, Slavery and Death present themselves as the main theme
thought the book. Though from pages 150 250, we see how truly messed up their world has become.
Though they only run into one group in the book that has slaves. On page 172, the Boy and The Man
have met the Old Man . Only because of the boy and his consistent whining do they share some of
their rations with him. Even though The Man has told him multiple times, the boy cannot let another
human who looks to be in need alone this time. As they question the Old Man and vice versa, he says

On page 192, The Man and The Boy suspect that someone is following them. So they go up the hill to
hide and wait it out. The later find out it is two men and and one pregnant women. In the next pages,
The Boy and The Man go to see about the fire they spot somewhere out in the woods. They suspect it
is the group from before and The Man thinks maybe the group is like them. So when they go to
investigate, the people run away, and The Boy and The Man see that there s a baby that has been
gutted and roasted on the fire. Earlier in the book when they spoke of the slaves walking on The Road,
with the pregnant women, it was a weird thing, because why have a bunch of children running around,
in an aimless world. But now, seeing what this group is done, you can make the connection that the
point of the pregnancy is for a food supply. Even with just the harvesting of human babies, the reader
can make the connection of how far this version of humanity has come with the death and destruction
of the world

Research Paper On Robert Oppenheimer
Tomiko Morimoto once stated, Everything started falling down; all the buildings started flying around
all over the place. I thought the Americans were going to burn us to death. And we kept running.... (
Hiroshima Survivor Recalls ). Robert Oppenheimer, also known as father of the atomic bomb , was
liable as the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the time of the Manhattan Project. In the
midst of World War II, the United States dropped nuclear bombs on the Japanese cities, Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. After the uncontrollable death rate of three percent of the world s population in 1940, World
War II came to a halt with the surrender of the Axis Powers in 1945. The Atomic Bomb succeeded in
marking the end of World War II. Born in New York City during 1904, the late Robert Oppenheimer,
was the son of Julius S. Oppenheimer and Ella Friedman. Even though Oppenheimer was born of
Jewish descent, he joined with a flock of émigrés seeking freedom within religion. As Oppenheimer
progressed in his childhood years, he and his family of four, lived in a deluxe apartment, enjoying life.
When Oppenheimer was enrolled in the second grade, his parents sent him to a well known school in
New York primarily for Ethical Culture; he continued his study there throughout his last years of grade
school. Oppenheimer was credited by most as a smart student receiving excellent grades in all
subjects, however, his social skills were lacking. In 1925, Oppenheimer started his atomic

Captain America The Winter Soldier
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a great political thriller from Marvel Comics, which features
Chris Evans as the lead actor. From the old fashioned blockbuster entertainment Captain America: The
First Avenger (2011) to the present day sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier brings back the
patriotic soldier Steve Rogers recipient of the Super Solider Serum. This second installment features
Roger who is forced into many tumultuous and discordant action. Above all, the film captures
conglomeration of deep character development while The Winter Soldier is a comic book movie only
in its provenance. With its fierce violence and dark political content The Winter Soldier may be the
most grown up Avenger movie.
Besides written by Christopher Markus Stephen McFeely, and directed by Anthony Russo Joe Russo,
this movie kicks off a great start, literally, in a great scene where Steve Rogers (Evans) meets Sam
Wilson (Anthony Mackie), a former member of a para infantry soldier. In one quick moment, they
dispense any need for jokes and they introduce the notion that Steve is struggling with issues that
affect him as a man out of time unique only to himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sequel sets off with Steve Rogers adjusting to contemporary society two years after the Battle of
New York (The Avengers). In The Winter Soldier Roger is still adjusting to the 21st century, packing
his days by jogging around the Washington Memorial and special ops missions. He continues to catch
up to speed of the life experience he missed while frozen. While Captain America has been on top of
his world saving game, he begins to doubt his work at

Statement of Background and Professional Goals
I would like to request a program transfer from the Faculty of Science to the Faculty of Kinesiology. I
am currently in First Year as a fulltime student at University of New Brunswick.
I think that a program transfer to the Faculty of Kinesiology would help me with my career goals
because it seems like a much more streamlined approach to the medical field than the Science
program here at UNB. As it is common knowledge that getting into medical school is a hard task, it
just makes sense to give yourself the best shot at achieving that goal. Having courses that aim you in
that direction help, as well as having the opportunities to go and see a medicine facility. Everyone that

My time in the Diagnostic Imaging department showed me how important the machines and the
images they produce are to help people. Not only can it help diagnose illnesses and broken bones, but
are also used to help with proper placements of medical aids and surgeries. It is my goal to be able to
do the problem solving and knowledge application necessary to help people with their health through
the images created. For me, that would be such a rewarding experience.
I am currently employed at Canadian Tire, but am in the process of finding a job at Lake of the Woods
District Hospital in my hometown of Kenora, Ontario. I did a Co op placement in the local hospital in
Grade 11. I did a placement in the Diagnostic Imagery department as well as a nursing post on the
Pre/Post Operation floor and the ICU. That semester helped me solidify my interest in pursuing a
career in the health field
I am an athlete on UNB Varsity Reds Women s swim team. Before coming to Fredericton, I was part
of Kenora Swimming Sharks in my hometown of Kenora, Ontario. I was involved with the team for 9
years and was the team captain during my last year. The current team captains of the Kenora
Swimming Sharks are in constant contact with me for help with decisions and ideas for the team. My

5.5 Limitations
Due to the limited amount of studies done on strategic budgetary system as it relates to power
infrastructure development in public sector in Nigeria, the survey used in this study was partially
based on survey instruments adapted and some generated by the researcher. A number of questions
used in the instrument were developed specifically to suite this dissertation. However, researchers
undertaking studies in strategic budgetary system in the future would benefit from survey questions
validated more specifically in the context of power sector infrastructure development. Furthermore,
the answers from respondents also need to be understood in the context of public servants giving
answers that they felt were expected rather than absolutely honest answers for fear of exposing
important personal and government secrets. Lastly, in Nigeria public sector there is dearth of data for
research. As a corollary, collection of data for this study was difficult especially in the past years
during the military regime.
5.6 Recommendations
Based on the research conducted in this dissertation, the study hereby makes the following
recommendations in line with the nine hypotheses tested:
First, the amount set aside in the development plans for infrastructure has direct relationship with the
level and quality of projects to be executed. It is recommended that proper power planning should be
made, since power

Changes in Operations are Needed for Future Threats and...
Threats and terrorism will always exist and are constantly evolving. Even after the dreadful 9/11
attacks, terrorists remain diligent at planning attacks against the United States and its allies. Although
not on the same scale as the 9/11 attacks, terrorists have successfully executed plots in the United
States, the United Kingdom and France. For example, on April 15, 2013, an attack at the Boston
Marathon occurred, killing three people and injuring 264 individuals. In the United Kingdom, on 7
July 2005, the London bombing incidents took place. Fifty two individuals were killed and 700 were
injured. On 7 January 2015, there was a mass shooting at the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo office
in Paris. On 13 November 2015, terrorists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The types of threats aimed at the nation are changing as well. Terrorist groups such as IS (also know
as ISIS or ISIL) are still interested in Western recruits because it is easier for them to travel between
countries and they are knowledgeable of western cultures and language. Individuals do not always
come from foreign countries, and are sometimes American or European citizens. The recruits lineage
can come from the country in which the terrorist reside or the recruit may be impressed or drawn to
the ideals and beliefs of another country. Terrorists or transnational criminals are not limited to
members of foreign intelligence agencies, militant groups, or insurgents, but they now also consist of
university students and business executives (Gebhardt, 2004). Some criminals and terrorist come from
well to do families or high status jobs. For example, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab also known as the
underwear bomber attempted to harm approximately 300 individuals aboard Northwest Airlines Flight
253 because he stated that he had been directed by al Qaeda to do so. Abdulmuttallab was from a
wealthy family, had opportunities to study at various universities, and had the support of his family
members; however, he chose to involve himself in terrorist activities instead of furthering his
education or maintaining a peaceful lifestyle. American homegrown violent extremist

Similarities Between Amas And Haggai

Comparison of the biblical prophets Amos and Haggai
Jurisprudence and the Bible
REL 122
Dr. Beggs
11 March 2018
In comparing the biblical prophets Amos and Haggai, the similarities of their plight to save the people
of God is overwhelming. The prophet Amos described the consequences that would come to people
who had turned their backs on God. Amos warnings were not meant only for his day, but also for this
day. Amos, meaning burden bearer , inhabited the rugged region of Tekoa, located in the territory of
Judah about 12 miles south of Jerusalem. He was a shepherd and tended to sycamore fig trees (Amos
7:14 15). Despite the fact that he lived in the southern kingdom of Judah, God ... Show more content

Amos is one of the prophets who documented what is ahead for the people and nations of the world.
The nations of modern Israel (United States) is facing unprecedented national tragedies. Our nation is
riddled with war, school shootings, poverty, racial divide, crime, and a plethora of other troubles.
Amos provides a brief outline of these events (Amos 4:6 12 and 5:1 3). Even in the midst of our nation
s tribulations, Yet God pleads: Seek good and not evil, that you may live; so the LORD God of hosts
will be with you. Hate evil, love good; establish justice in the gate. It may be that the LORD God of
hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph (Amos 5:14 15). Unfortunately, God s pleading fell on
deaf ears then and continues to be ignored by some

  • 2. The Crucible Mass Hysteria Essay Mass hysteria is a phenomenon that transmits collective allusions of threats through a population in society as a result of rumors and fear. The Crucible by Arthur Miller accurately portrays mass hysteria that took place during the Salem witch trials of 1692. People were accused based on revenge or other malicious motives and to make the situation worse, nothing about the trials was logical. After a few people were accused, fear set into the town and everyone was viewed as a witch until proven innocent. Mass hysteria not only happened during the Salem witch trials, but right after the Twin Towers fell on September 11, 2001 as well. Mass hysteria ties into both the accusations made in The Crucible and the islamophobia that set in after 9/11. The terrified and anxious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... America was not a complete mess with orphaned children and cows roaming around like in The Crucible however, there were still transformations from before to after the mass hysteria of 9/11. A short term effect caused by mass hysteria were hate crimes towards people of the Islamic faith. According to the FBI, anti Islamic hate crimes spiked by 1,600 percent with 481 incidents during 2001. Another major change was the increase in airport security. A month after 9/11 the Transport Security Administration, also known as the TSA, was founded. The TSA made the following rules to create traveling by plane more safe: more specific ID is required, shoes must be removed at checkpoint, all baggage must be screened, no liquids above 3.4 ounces are allowed past the checkpoint, and enhanced pat downs. Immigration is another long term change that occurred after 9/11. In fear of other terrorist attacks the funding for immigration was increased, many criminals were removed, and regular police officers were turned into immigration officers. • 3. Argumentative Essay On Illegal Immigrants Franklin D. Roosevelt, an American president, has Dutch ancestry in his life. Anybody who comes to America are from different cultural backgrounds; every family arrives in the United States to make something of themselves. Families are getting ripped apart as they are being deported back to their homeland, and leaving the life they built behind. A great deal of diverse families who travel to the United States; are deprived of their American dream because of fear of deportation. Illegal immigrants should be granted amnesty because Immigrants are taking jobs many Americans do not want, they are taken advantage of for not having legal documents, and they are not secured by fundamental living rights. Hundreds and millions of illegal immigrants are a big part of the workforce in America. Plumbers, Electricians, and Landscapers are a variety of professions illegal immigrants do in order to put food on the table. More than others are astounded by the amount of jobs that are open because no one is willing to work them. It has been found that these occlusal discrepancies may play a role in the progression of periodontal diseases. Some research has been done on the relationship of these two aspects but it is very controversial and more research needs to be performed before a definite answer can be provided. The records that were studied were from patients that had periodontal evaluations as well as occlusal assessments. All of the patients studied had periodontal disease but only some of them had occlusal decencies. After a twelve month period some patients returned and had another periodontal evaluation and occlusal assessment and the data was compared to the data that was collected twelve months prior. Rival sellers can easily try to produce a new line of products, mimic a competitor s product, and it s difficult to differentiate a snack food from the competition as there is so much competition. The market isn t quickly growing, so rivals are competing for the same customer base and there is very little if any cost to switch from one snack food to the next. This incident occurred in the City of Auburn, County of King, Washington; On 10 21 2016 at about 1000 hrs I was in the south parking lot of Isaac Evans Park at 30700 Green River RD SE, when I noticed an older silver Honda sedan, WA/BBJ3053, reversed in to a parking shall. At the time, the vehicle had two people sitting in it, a female in the passenger seat and a male in the driver seat. The vehicle was not running at the time. I know from several previous contacts at the park that stolen vehicles are often dropped off in the parking lot as it is away from any busy roads and out of sight from any buildings. At the time the vehicle was the only one in the area. I drove over and parked my fully marked patrol vehicle next to the Honda and walked over to the driver s side of the vehicle. As I walked over the male started to exit the vehicle. I walked over to the male and asked him what he was doing in the area and if he was willing to provide his name. The male quickly stated that he had a DOC felony warrant for his arrest. I placed the male in handcuffs, per my training, and advised him of his Miranda Rights. The male stated that he did not have ID on him, but provided his name as Garrett Brown. I checked Brown, via radio, through WACIC/NCIC/DOL and dispatch confirmed that he had a DOC Escape Community Custody warrant for his arrest, #2714104794. Williams establishes that the apartment is small and confining, the weather is hot and oppressive, and the characters have good reason to come into conflict. The South, old and new, is an important theme of the play. Blanche and her sister come from a dying world. The life and pretensions of their world are becoming a thing of memory: to drive home the point, the family mansion is called quot;Belle Reve, quot; or Beautiful Dream. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stanley is convinced that he is being swindled, but after a moment it becomes clear that Blanche is capable of no such thing. She cares nothing for money; her class only understands how to spend it, and that is part of why Belle Reve was lost. When Stanley demands if it was lost on a mortgage, Blanche can only respond uncertainly, quot; That must have been what happened. quot; She is completely ignorant on business matters. Stanley is no expert, but his basic approach is that of a new world, the real world in which Blanch is so unable to survive. Blanch has suffered terribly; we have only seen hints of it so far, but later we will learn more about the depths of her loneliness. Loneliness and desire are integral to Blanche s being. She chose the harsh road of staying at Belle Reve to care for the dying, and she has suffered because of it. For many years, she was a delicate young woman who lived alone in a house full of the terminally ill. There is both honesty and illusion in her comments about the sincerity of the suffering. On one hand, Blanche is very insincere. She has dealt with her suffering by making believe, by taking refuge in fanciful dreams about herself and her surroundings. She lies about her age. She also insists that Mitch cover the naked bulb. She does not want to be seen in the harshness of bright light. In darkness, she is free to fabricate and re imagine whatever cannot be seen. Although many sanctions under the US Patriot Act grossly violated the fourth amendment in several ways, congress felt it was necessary to protect the nation. Sections that violated the fourth amendment are: the sneak and peek warrants included in section 213, roving/warrantless wiretapping of section 206, and finally trap and trace searches of section 214. These are just a few of the many violations I can account for. The Fourth Amendment is part of the Bill of Rights that was added to the Constitution in 1791. Aymara society was built upon a basic social unit of kinship that organized the distribution of labor, and this system, termed ayllu, was later adopted by conquering Quechua. Atahualpa first encountered Pizarro on November 16, 1532 and was promptly taken prisoner while 180 Spaniards kept an Inca army of 40,000 at bay with cannon, firearms and swords. Concealed under these factors lie environmental destruction as well as a damaged economy. The Locavore Movement has been on the rise due to its nutritional benefits, however, this overshadows the effects of locally grown food on our environment and economy. Many locavores say that locally grown produce contains more nutrients since they ve been recently picked, unlike supermarkets where the produce has been left in the freezers for weeks. In addition, they also claim that since it takes less distance to travel from farm to plate there is a decreased chance of contamination (Source A). It s accurate to say that most produce grown from local areas are healthier which is why the government plans to place more investments into farmers markets(Source E). Live music is about atmosphere, energy and a certain sense of intimacy that comes with seeing a band or artist recreate their art for you on stage. If your expectations are met, you leave not only happy, but with a deeper connection with the band thereafter. I had Crooks at a disadvantage before this show as my expectations had been simmering ever since their debut EP Nevermore captivated me back in 2012. Despite this internal pressure, it took only the first minute of the evening s opening track to realise that my expectations were about to boil over. Crooks are a five piece act from Cheltenham in the UK, playing a fast, energetic brand of post hardcore accentuated by regular tempo changes, melodic vocals and intricate guitar work. It s a formula that has recently earned them a record deal with Headphone Music, an indent of Equal Vision Records, who will be releasing the band s debut full length album later this year. It s also a formula that leaves a lasting impression in a live setting. There s two particular theory of attachment id agree with which would have to be Bowlby and Harlow theory. Attachment I believe comes from early age and it s based on how the caregiver takes care of their child and the emotional connection they share with their child. Harlow s theory states that babies are more attached to theirs mothers for the simple reason it s the parent that feeds them and shows protection, once they find that in a parent they become more in order to survive. There are different styles of attachments for example secure, insecure, avoidant, and anxious ambivalent. Secure attachment is when a child its upset when their caregiver leaves but once the caregiver returns they are able calm down. Remembering The Lost Research Paper Remembering the Lost (Memorialize) All over the world, there are people who achieve such great achievement, that when they die, there is a monument of some type that might be built for them. This doesn t have to be just when a person of great ability to do something dies, but people might also have memorials when there is an extreme sacrifice that was made. This might be because of hard times that were going on, and the people who make the monument have to determine the size they want it and what materials they are going to use, etc. There are many different procedures a person might have to go through in order to determine what they want to do to remember somebody or a certain time period that is now gone. Three factors a group should consider in memorializing a person or event are why it would be important to remember, where it will be located, and what will come of doing so. First of all, it is very important to consider why the person or time period is an important thing to remember. The whole scheme of the Europeans was created by the desire to import more resources in their countries. Lorenzo Servitje Sendra worked with his father in the family bakery throughout his childhood, but when his father died in 1936 he had to take over. This analysis focuses on Neruda s language and word choice itself in the absence of a historical, political or even a highly contextual personal examination. His love poems in particular, such as in his books One Hundred Love Sonnets, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair and The Captain s Verses all help one in viewing the world anew via the approach of the poems towards intricate surrealist imagery and passionate emotion as well as the forms and stages of love. The selected poems use repeating natural images alongside similarly recurring romantic emotions. For example, Tonight I Can Write the Saddest Lines portrays the speaker s feelings of loss and poignant longing (Karmakar, 2015 p3) in the descriptions of the fractured night, with the night wind , infinite sky and blue stars continuing the image of an lonely evening. The hopeful reflection of morning is indicated with the lines that fall on the soul like dew on the grass . Alongside this, the subject whom the speaker is referring to is mentioned as having a bright body as well as describing her huge, still eyes . Jackson s action in economic development was little different from when this era began. His view towards reforms were threatening and unwanting. Jackson was relentless in his strive for presidency. Jackson lost his first presidential run to John Quincy Adams in 1824 despite having the popular and electoral votes. The Jacksonians (supporters of Jackson) called this event the Corrupt Bargain due to Henry Clay support of Adams after he was out of the race. Jackson won the following election in 1828, after a war of words were exchanged between supporters of Jackson and Adams. The Jacksonians accused Adams of being wasteful with money, while Adams supporters accused Jackson of being a murderer in the war of 1812 and called his wife a bigamist. These accusations got to Rachel and weeks later she passed. Nonetheless, this was still a victory for the new Democratic Republicans against the National Republicans. In the sermon The Drum Major Instinct, written by Martin Luther King clearly demonstrates that the drum major instinct can easily be interpreted wrong and turn into a pernicious instinct. To begin with, the sermon is given out in a church. The audience where the people who attended the church, but he also spoke in general. During the sermon he brings up a situation that says, Have you ever heard people that you know, and I m sure you ve met them that really become sickening because they just sit up all the time talking about themselves. • 38. Cross Langston Hughes The poem Cross by Langston Hughes utilizes word choice, figurative language and literary devices to add to and enforce its theme. Langston Hughes word choice in his poem Cross, affects the theme of the poem. The title alone has many denotations that pertain to the story. For example, the word cross can be defined as a crossbreed, or mix, a grouping the speaker can easily fall under, due to their mixed heritage. It also can mean a problem or burden. This can be applied to the speaker, because they have to deal with the problem, or burden of only half belonging to the white or black races. A cross can mean a crossroad, or a decision that must be made that can affect the rest of the decision maker s life. This is applicable to the poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of these things reinforce and add detail to the meaning of the poem. For instance, My old man died in a fine big house./My ma died in a shack (9 10). These lines use symbolism in order to show the difference between the speaker s parents. While their old man died in a fine big house (9), which symbolizes that he was wealthy, their mother died in a shack (10). Symbolism and imagery are used within the two lines to show that while the speaker s dad had a significant amount of money, their mother was poor and had little to no money. The aforementioned lines also use imagery, because they allow the reader to see both houses in their mind s eye. A fine big house (9), makes one think of a mansion, while a shack (10) brings a small, run down home to mind. These add to the gap between the parent s races, and help further display the dilemma that the speaker is facing, in deciding, or figuring out, where they belong. In the final two lines of the poem, the poet uses apostrophe to drive their point home. The speaker says: I wonder where I m going to die, /Being neither white nor black? (11 12). The two lines are used in order to show the speaker s dilemma in full, as well as displaying the speaker s desperation to fit in somewhere. Figurative language and literary devices including apostrophe and symbolism allow the poet to deepen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Freedom Under Hospitable Captivity Essay The Matrix (Andy and Lana Wachowski, 1999) appeals to a Western ideology of freedom in its most general sense by depicting a fight against the enslavement of the human race in a post apocalyptic world controlled by machines. The machines use the humans, whose minds are trapped in a computer program, as an energy source. In this world of machines, the Wachowskis expand upon the totalitarianism seen in other works of fiction, such as 1984 by George Orwell. The totalitarian state of 1984, Airstrip One, becomes the whole planet in The Matrix, and the oppressed citizens become nearly the entire human race. Only a group of rebels escape from the machines by creating a city below the surface of the earth. The main character, Neo (Keanu ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After an encounter with Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), Morpheus gives Neo the call to action with a phone call that sends Neo to the Adam s Street Bridge to meet Trinity and later be freed from the Matrix, entering the belly of the whale. Morpheus becomes the supernatural mentor during Neo s training the road of trials aboard the Nebuchadnezzar, the rebel ship. After the agents capture Morpheus in the second call to action, Neo proves that he is the One by saving Morpheus and dealing with the agents, the ultimate boon. In the process, he stops bullets in mid air by opening his mind using a supernatural force and makes Agent Smith explode in a guilt free act of violence. A unique feature of the film is that Neo is not presented with a situation in which to resist temptation. It is unusual that this classic aspect of the Monomyth is left out. Frodo has the ring, Buddha has three women, Christ has the three temptations of the Devil, etcetera.2 Thus, the film follows much of the Monomyth but still manages to be unique. Freedom has different definitions and histories in various parts of the world. The most important definition of freedom in the context of The Matrix is that of the Western World.
